Tell me about your fanfic!!!!

WWX is an actual servant of the Jiangs in this story, rather than just the son of a servant. He is still good friends with Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli, but his status with the family is less ambiguous. When the war happens, it is his first and only real opportunity to raise his status. He had previously met and befriended Lan Wangji, but due to WWX's status, LWJ was not able to keep up the connection. WWX, already in love with LWJ, decides to enlist in the slightest chance that perhaps he could meet LWJ on equal footing, and even if he couldn't earn his love, perhaps just being able to exist in the same space as him would be enough. Also like he wants to protect his home and the Jiangs and all that too, but the LWJ thing is like a big part of it.

Under the extreme training and conditions of the war, his previously rather meager magic flourishes. Wherever he's in battle it's like a bomb of red light going off.

One day he is hurt very badly in battle saving LWJ's life. In his half-delirious state he confesses to LWJ and is subsequently rejected.

He disappears under mysterious circumstances shortly after this and when he comes back, the previous red glow of his magic is replaced with a black force that seems to suck light from around him.

Things escalate after the war and eventually he is sentenced to death. LWJ offers to marry him to save his life because of his life debt from the war and because he thinks he may be partially the cause for WWX's dark path, and so has decided to take responsibility for him. He has no real affection for WWX at the beginning of the story. They had been friends as children but had grown distant again as adults since society kept them apart, so he is acting purely on duty and debt.

MXTX FoodZine 2023

So, besides all the doge-related sadness, work stress, personal life stress, and travel stress that's been affecting my usual fic-posting schedule (for nearly a year now, sad yays ;u; ), the other reason why I've been too busy to work on my WIPs is because I've been working on my entries for this year's MXTX FoodZine!!! \o/

This is the second iteration of the project, but it's my first time participating in it! We've all been working really hard, from me and my fellow content creators to the project's Discord mods and project admins/managers and the design/layout team, and it's really so amazing to see all that effort and hard work come together like this! *u*

I contributed 2 MDZS Wangxian fics and a recipe. One fic was based on the recipe I contributed (Peach Gum Soup) with art by @stardustinjune, and the other fic was based on @chefyli909's recipe for Spicy Poached Chicken!

Hopelessly Devoted (To You) is a purely fluffy Wangxian fic featuring my recipe for Peach Gum Soup! It's a one-pot Chinese dessert soup that's super tasty and super simple to make! Prep all the yummy things, toss them into a crockpot, leave to cook, and then eat! 😌😌😌🤤🤤🤤 The fic features gorgeous artwork by my collab partner Stardustinjune (Twitter | Tumblr)!!!

Through The Fire And The Flames (We Carry On) is also a fluffy Wangxian fic (but with just a sprinkle of angst for piquant flavour~ 😘😌😏)! It's inspired by @chefyli909's recipe for Spicy Poached Chicken with Green Onion Pancakes. So mouthwatering and worth the effort to make!

The collection is slated to go live on 7 Nov, so until then, the links will go to a page saying that the fics aren't revealed yet. Until then, stay tuned!!!

So I’m reading the Seven Seas translation of MDZS as it comes out and therefore have only read as far as volume 4 (web serialization chapter 97, according the table of contents). Which means I’ve just gotten past the Bathtub Scene. And I’ve been so fascinated by Wei Wuxian’s POV during the sex scene that I had to share.

Initially, I thought the whole scene was going to be a bit vague and euphemistic. Live footage of me every time I read the word “member” --

But the explicitness did ramp up as things heated up, only for me to notice that the level of explicitness is mainly directed to describing Lan Wangji. I find it interesting that Wei Wuxian as the (3rd person) POV character is sort of...comparatively unfocused on his own arousal.

In describing WWX we get more emotion-centric words and less physical description. He’s excited, he feels electric, incredible, unused to these sensations but loving them. It’s vaguer, almost more PG-13/light R. But then when it comes to how Lan Wangji is described WHOOP we’ve earned that 17+ rating now. Now we’ve got things swelling and pulsing. We’ve got “hard as iron.” We’ve got “slapped into his palm.” (I loled at that one ngl. 🤣) And even at the climax, the description of WWX’s orgasm is comparatively tame; he’s aware of the pleasure peaking but seems barely conscious of what that is, only to then fixate in pretty graphic detail over LWJ coming on his thighs.

I suppose the obvious and perhaps most likely explanation for this is heteronormativity: that the audience is assumed to be female and projecting onto Wei Wuxian as the bottom, and therefore more interested in fantasizing about Lan Wangji as the top. But I really prefer to see it as a window into WWX's absolute smitten-ness: he really is just that delighted and turned on by turning LWJ on, far more interested in that than his own pleasure; and if we were seeing things from LWJ's POV, the same would be true and we'd be hearing in far more explicit detail about WWX.

Anyway they're a disaster at this point, but still cute under their stupid miscommunications. 😅

Notes: THIS ONE HURTS SO GOOD. it's such an interesting concept that I don't think I've seen much of, if any? before, and the author makes it so fun to read. there are sad moments especially re: WWX's death that only add to the story. definitely worth a read if you like reincarnation!!

Do you think Wen Ning had an idea of Wei WuXians feelings for Lan WangJi in his first life or second (before WWX revealed all later in the novel)?

Wen Qing definitely had a feeling there was something between them in his first life. It's obvious he spoke about him to her, because WQ even mentioned that he had met him before he liberated the refugee as well.

WN seems very good at sinking into the background when WWX and LWJ are getting a little close and doesn't seem surprised at them being close.

I’m sure that Wen Ning caught on during Wei Wuxian’s second life, most likely actually during the road trip to Yiling. They only got a few stolen seconds to talk before then, due to Wei Wuxian being not sure if he could bring out Wen Ning around Lan Wangji and knowing he couldn’t around the juniors. It is possible that he also caught on during the flight from Jinlintai, where Wei Wuxian is unconscious but we know that Wen Ning appeared to help Lan Wangji escape.

Wen Ning is the eternal third wheel, politely shrinking away when they’re having their moments once he catches on. But he just didn’t have the time and mental acumen to see them together until the road to Yiling. So it can’t have happened before then.

But I have to correct an assumption you made in your post regarding Wen Qing. Wen Qing does not know that there’s something between them. None of her dialogue even hints at it. On the contrary she completely bought into the rumors that they were enemies and was confused and suspicious of Lan Wangji when he was there.

Here, I’ll quote the whole conversation, it isn’t that long:

“At the mention of the Cloud Recesses, Wen Qing glanced at Wei WuXian, asking him as though she didn’t care, “I forgot to ask you. You’ve never brought anyone up Burial Mound. What’s the deal today?”

Wei WuXian, “You mean Lan Zhan? I met him on the way.”

“Wei Qing, “You met him? How did you meet him? You ran into him again?”

Wei WuXian, “That’s right.”

Wen Qing, “What a coincidence. I remember that you two ran into each other once in Yunmeng as well.”

Wei WuXian, “There’s nothing special about it. A lot of cultivators from other sects travel in and out of Yunmeng and Yiling.”

Wen Qing, “I heard you call him directly by his birth name back then. Quite bold, aren’t you?”

Wei WuXian, “He calls me directly by my birth name as well, doesn’t he? It’s nothing. Got used to it when we were young. Neither of us care.”

Wen Qing, “Really? Don’t you two have a bas relationship? Heard that it’s like you’re ice and fire, fighting every time you see each other.

Wei WuXian, “Don’t listen to the rumors. Our relationship really was quite bad in the past. During the Sunshot Campaign, we did get into a few fights because of our bad tempers. But afterwards, it wasn’t as bad as the rumors say. We’re so-so.”

Wen Qing didn’t say anything else.”

I don’t know about you, but none of that sounds like a woman who’s picked up on a yearning love story to me. That sounds like a woman who completely believed that they were enemies and was surprised to find out that their relationship was good enough that Lan Wangji would help them. Even her pointing out that Wei Wuxian uses his birth name seems to be more her trying to contradict what he’s telling her, as if she doesn’t believe him.

Wen Qing is not as all seeing as people make her, nor as close right away as people make her and Wei Wuxian. At this time they are more allies and companions in a threatening time. She is the leader and he is the shield. Later on when she is saying goodbye to him, it does seem that they have grown closer in that time, but even here there’s nothing I could call sibling like about their relationship.

When I said the Juniors were the first ones to see Wangxian as they were, I meant it. I did not mean the first but for Lan Wangji, or the first but for Jiang Cheng, or the first but for Wen Qing. Everyone either misunderstood their relationship or in Lan Wangji’s case, had always held his feelings close to his chest, never chasing after them but for one moment in Phoenix Mountain where he knows he is taking that which is not his to have.

Wangxian are kept apart in their first life somewhat due to their own misunderstandings, but also because everyone around them dictates that they are rivals, that they are enemies, that they hate each other. No amount of either one of them saying that isn’t true ever stops it. Even when Wei Wuxian comes back to life, it is widely believed that they hated each other and if Lan Wangji knew that he lived again, he would snuff him out as he would not allow Wei Wuxian’s evil to live.

This very misunderstanding is what protects him up until he’s exposed at Jinlintai. No one is going to connect the strange man at Lan Wangji’s side to Wei Wuxian because everyone without exception thought they hated each other. The juniors can only see clearly because they see the two men together without any preconceived notions of their relationship.

Wen Ning likely knew by the time of the road trip to Yiling. Wen Qing did not know. And I will stand my ground on this point.

And I Will Call You Home by Spodumene, a CQL based case fic that wonderfully catches the characterization of CQL Wangxian and a beautifully written pining Wei Wuxian.

Lan Yuan's War by Burningtea, a sprawling epic at this point with a time traveling Lan Wangji and A-Yuan that also delves into fleshing out the side characters of the plot for a "fix it" AU in the non-typical way that this fandom is usually fond of.

He was getting ready for the day when a sharp and urgent knock on the door distracted him from his morning routine. His first disciple, Jiang Qingmei, entered the room in a rush with a troubled expression on his face. Or, Jiang Cheng is forced to face consequences of his actions of the past sixteen years. Things go down very quickly. Kay's comments: This is THE story for everyone wishing that Jiang Cheng would have gotten some permanent and not just emotional damage post-canon. It's mostly CQL-canon, but it also follows the plot points of the novel about how Jiang Cheng was hunting demonic cultivators in the years Wei Wuxian was dead. Now, his actions are finally catching up to him and it's beautiful to watch his house of cards collapse. Very satisfying all around. Also, I adore Lyna_Mei as an author - chef's kiss. Excerpt: "Lotus plants, zongzhu," Jiang Qingmei answered immediately. "Some of our disciples noticed something strange with lotus plants yesterday while taking a late swim. I sent people to check in the morning and they discovered that lotuses in our lakes were struck with some disease". This was bad. Obviously, some plants die every season but for Jiang Qingmei to run to him so early in the morning it must be massive. He should skip breakfast and go and see for himself, then if things are truly that bad - write a note to Jin Ling telling his nephew he wouldn't be able to come. Jiang Cheng didn't want to start imagining how big the problem was. Besides, it was always better to know for sure than to build suggestions and then come face to face with reality. So he quickly finished his hair and reached for Zidian and Sandu. "How much are we talking about?" he asked. Jiang Qingmei looked at him with something akin to fear before finally answering. "We might lose seventy to ninety percent of our harvest, zongzhu".

'replacing jc in someone's affection' I am crying! wwx doesn't do it once but twice! It's fascinating! Also, this makes me understand why some people, reading the novel, come to the conclusion that wwx doesn't care anymore about jc. Yeah, it's a valid interpretation!

Listen, I just rotated, and rotated, and rotated this scenario (—because, like, both child and adult Wei Wuxian are sincerely in need of support and affection, but I think receiving it as a child while it was withheld from someone he loved, what might have seemed like taking it away from someone who also needed it, also contributed to his boundary problems and self-sacrificial tendencies and eventual resentment—like he needs it but it hurts someone he loves deeply when he gets it but he still needs it, how can he reconcile these conflicting truths?? OK I will stop now—) and, uh, have a tiny little sketch of that zhanchengxian fic concept below, with which I will exorcise my sad past chengxian/past zhancheng/current wangxian thoughts.

It was going to be a perfect triple triple drabble but I needed 80 more words in the centre section to describe Jiang Cheng's tears. You know how it is.

Pursued by Lesser Ghosts

At first he was busy and grateful for it.

Then, Jin Ling settled, elders cowed, sect in order, Jiang Cheng was forced to returned to Lotus Pier. Empty, now.

His sect ran as it always did. He slept poorly. He dreamed often. He walked up and down the pier at night, pursued by lesser ghosts, echoes of people who were alive, just gone. His own life closed around him as tight as any noose, one long merciless sequence of work, sleep, work.

He had a minor qi deviation.

“Go back to dual cultivation,” said the doctor.

“That’s no longer possible,” he said.

The doctor looked up. When Jiang Cheng didn’t say anything else, she said, “Well. Come here for acupuncture once a week. Consider visiting Jin Ling.”

Relax, she didn’t bother to say.

Jiang Ping, his one surviving cousin, took tea with him, and said: “I know things have been stressful. Perhaps you would consider marriage now?”

“I didn’t think marriage was relaxing,” said Jiang Cheng, drily.

“It can be. After everything, well… it’s nice to have someone there.” Jiang Ping looked up, thinking. “Having someone there and working a lot. I don’t think it’s possible for Sect Leader to work harder, so you’ll have to try the other thing.”

Jiang Cheng let out a snort despite himself. Jiang Ping grinned at him.

He could get married, he supposed. What was there to prevent him?

He didn’t call for a matchmaker. He worked harder, kept himself so busy he could hardly think, but at night, laying in his bed, he ached with loneliness before sleep. And in sleep, he saw them, Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian both, invariably walking away from him, hand in hand.

Sometimes he was silent; sometimes he called to them. It didn’t matter. They never turned around.

In Wei Wuxian’s dream, it was high summer, air as thick as syrup, and he was lying under the trees along the riverbank with his head in Jiang Cheng’s lap.

Above him, Jiang Cheng was eating tanghulu. Playfully, Wei Wuxian opened his mouth like a baby bird, and Jiang Cheng, rolling his eyes, took a piece of fruit and fed it to him, red and almost glowing. His index finger brushed against Wei Wuxian’s mouth.

Sometimes, he dreamed and he didn’t know whether it was just a dream or a fragment of a memory. He thought this might have happened—he faintly remembered begging Jiang Cheng to let him rest his head in his lap, across his narrow, muscled thighs.

Suddenly it was night, and Jiang Cheng was gone.

“Jiang Cheng?” called Wei Wuxian, and found his voice was a child’s voice, high-pitched and nervous. “Jiang Cheng?”

He rushed through Lotus Pier, now dark and empty, towards Jiang Cheng’s room. Then, in the way of dreams, Jiang Cheng was in front of him, a child again, too, face swollen with tears as he wept alone on the pier.

Wei Wuxian froze, panicked.

Someone picked him up; Uncle Jiang had appeared. But instead of saying anything, he turned and walked away. “Uncle Jiang,” Wei Wuxian whispered, but Jiang Fengmian didn’t respond.

All Wei Wuxian could do was look over Uncle Jiang’s shoulder at Jiang Cheng, at his crumpled, sobbing face. You don’t understand, he thought, suddenly, I love you but I need this, I need it, I need it.

That face changed again, blurred into Jiang Cheng's adult face, still weeping as he knelt on the pier. And then the strong arms around him weren’t Uncle Jiang’s but Lan Zhan’s, holding him tight in a bridal carry, taking him away as he squirmed to look back, to not look away from Jiang Cheng’s face, they had been so happy only a moment ago—

Wei Wuxian woke late, his face wet. Went to look for a handkerchief. Opened a drawer he hadn’t looked in before to find: two purple hair ribbons. An open jar of salve, carved with the insignia of a well-known Yunmeng herbalist. And a lavender handkerchief, embroidered with a little frog. Wei Wuxian traced it gently with his thumb.

The day was a little crisp, but bright and beautiful. Lan Wangji had risen at the appointed time, eaten breakfast serenely with the sect, and taught some advanced guqin lessons. Lan Sizhui was coming along beautifully, playing more delicate and precise every day, a delight to teach.

Everything was just as it should be in the Cloud Recesses, but Lan Wangji was still somehow uneasy.

He had gained everything he had dreamed of as a teenager, in one bewildering fell swoop. His life had been overturned, but for the better, the man he had wanted for so long delivered to him on a silver platter. He was unbelievably lucky.

Of course, he grieved what had happened to his brother. Lan Xichen deserved only good things. It was bitter to find out someone you had loved so deeply had deceived you—had failed you—had abandoned you.

But with the exception of that dark spot, the suffering and absence of his brother, his life was everything he had ever asked for, wasn’t it? A pristine life, on the surface.

If there was a dark shadow underneath, the ripple of something passing through a lake on a sunny day—something slipping out of an incautious hand, lost to the water—that too was life, wasn’t it?

He had never been so happy in his life. He had never before been so happy in his life, as he had once imagined it.

He averted his eyes from that shadow.

Until, one day, he returned home, and found Wei Ying, sitting at the room’s low table, holding a handkerchief in one hand. Remnants of a different life that had collected in his home. No—that he had kept. Gripped tightly.

“Lan Zhan,” Wei Ying said, brightly, face stretched in a brittle smile. “What’s this?”

i love the banquet extra so much because post canon wangxian have these new minor problems that they treat the same way as they do the huge problems, i.e. wei wuxian bravely and unselfishly facing a daunting task (drinking soup he doesn't like) while lan wangji once again steps between his wei ying and anything that may harm him (the aforementioned soup)

they're silly!! and it's what they deserve!!!

Something that is so dear to me is WangXian failing at roleplay

WWX decides he's gonna roleplay as a maid that didn't do his work and goes "oh no 🥺 what will you do to me master? Will I get punished™️? 🥺"

And LWJ goes "just finish the cleaning its ok."
