i'm back on my "mcu steve was in the darkest timeline because he never experienced the canon event of tony stark giving him a home and a family" bullshit. post-ice steve was isolated, grieving, lonely, going through ptsd and survivor's guilt and he was constantly fixated on how he had no home or family or identity beyond cap. post-ice in the mcu, SHIELD stuck him in the costume and sent him back into the field, reinforcing the idea that he was nothing more than the empty shell of captain america.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"All my life I've tried to find a place for Steve Rogers—but still he lives under the more colorful shadow of Captain America… Perhaps it's Steve Rogers who's the legend—and Captain America who is the reality! Perhaps I was born to be a red-white-and-blue Avenger—and nothing more! But there must be more to life than endless combat! Others have found a home—a family—why can't I? Or, is Steve Rogers destined to walk alone forever—until the final battle—until he walks no more?"
— Tales of Suspense Vol. 1 #75 (1959)
Tumblr media
"[...] But, even in the center of a crowd, I'm an outsider—a misfit! Only when I'm costumed as Captain America do I seem to come alive—to have a mission—a purpose! But, as Steve Rogers, I'm merely a name—a hollow shell—with no roots—no real life to call my own! Other men have friends—wives—loved ones!"
— Tales of Suspense Vol. 1 #92 (1959)
in the comics, the canon event of tony stark, the first person steve meets in the 21st century, giving him all of those things — a purpose, a home, somewhere to belong as himself and not just cap — changed his entire life.
Tumblr media
"The first week after I came out of the ice… It was a dark time. I'd lost everything. My best friend. All my friends. All I had. I didn't know what I could hang on to. And then Tony Stark came in with this little… handheld cinema. Future technology. He showed me a newsreel. Right there, I saw a man walk on the moon. For all mankind. And in that moment, I felt hope again."
— S.W.O.R.D. Vol. 2 #6 (2021)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Mr. Stark, when I woke up in this era, I had no one. Nothing. You gave me a purpose. Somewhere to belong… You gave me a home."
— Iron Man/Captain America: Casualties of War (2006)
meeting tony and the avengers, creating those friendships and connections, living at the avengers mansion with them, gives steve hope that he can still find happiness and belonging in the present day.
i always found it ironic that in the mcu steve projects this ideal of happiness and domestic life onto tony. this scene in ca:cw is a perfect example of that disconnect between the reality and what steve assumed on the surface was tony achieving what he never could — having a partner, his own family and kids. (the fact that cacw tony is 4 seconds away from a heart attack at all times and too busy running around firefighting PR crises just further drives home the irony.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then in a cruel twist of fate, mcu actually gives tony all of these things: home, family, wife and kid. we see steve witnessing tony having these things and knowing it's all possible, but just not for him and not in this era. (and ultimately, tony only gets to have these things for a brief period of time before having to give it all up.)
Tumblr media
mcu steve never got to have the experiences that have shaped every other universe's steve rogers. the presence of tony stark, his friendship, his home, his love (whether platonic or romatnic), that formed the foundation of steve's purpose within the avengers, is intrinsic to steve finding hope and happiness in the modern day. the mcu changing such a crucial canon event rewrote not only the core of mcu steve's story but the trajectory of the cinematic universe. and in the end, the writers sent steve back to the past because they believed after 6 movies and 7 years, he had nothing left to live for in the present and i honestly can't think of anything more tragic.

Fuck Valentine's Day by @jinlinli
[Friends to lovers, 4 218 words, Teen And Up Audiences]
Summary:
Steve and Bucky's friends finally get sick and tired of their obliviousness, so they set them up on a blind date on Valentine's Day. But of course, they think it's just a prank because they're idiots.
“You know what we should do?” Bucky says. “We should stage a coup.” A smile slowly starts to spread on Steve’s face. He leans forward. “Go on.” “They’re freaking terrible at this Valentine’s Day thing. We’d be a million times better at this romantic bullshit, and we’re not even dating.” Steve’s full on grinning now. “So we’ll show ‘em how it’s done. We’ll have the best goddamn Valentine’s Day ever.” “We’ll put all the real couples to shame with how fucking great we are at Valentine’s Day.”

The Perfect Man by Ellessey
[Modern AU, 9 251 words, Explicit]
Summary:
"I'm Steve, by the way."
Steve. That's cute. Steve's really fucking cute, and he's falling into step beside Bucky on the way to his apartment.
"Bucky," Bucky remembers to say after a noticeable pause.
"Huh. And you didn't go with FuckyBucky for your handle?"
"I really don't even want to talk about my handle," Bucky admits, and when Steve laughs it's loud and it makes his nose crinkle up. Bucky can barely believe this is happening.

Setting up a dating profile is decidedly not in Bucky's skill-set, but against all odds he manages to connect with someone who makes the one-night stand he thought he wanted feel like not nearly enough.

Valentine's Day Is A Hallmark Holiday by sebstanau
[Valentine's Day, 2 038 words, Not Rated]
Summary:
Bucky Barnes is done with this month. He’s done with still being hungover from Stark’s New Year’s Eve party, he’s done with everyone claiming ‘new year, new me.’, and currently he’s done with pink.
All of the fucking pink.
It was everywhere, it was like New York City as a whole wants to remind Bucky that he’s spending Valentine’s Day alone. Again.
or, the fic where bucky literally hates valentine's day and he pines over his best friend
Tumblr media
Couldn't tell you though I tried to by @stuckyflangst
[Post CA:TWS, 9106 words, Explicit]
Summary:
Bucky was always a romantic. Steve would whinge and moan and then Bucky would always turn up in the evening of the 14th with a flower (I promise I stole it Stevie I didn’t pay) or a folded card (I made it myself) with a poem in his loopy handwriting.
What was that poem? That poet Bucky liked so much?
Out of the corner of his eye Steve looks at Bucky, at his soft hair, at the way he still rests his metal arm so carefully in his lap, even though when they are in the apartment together he wraps it around his mug of tea, as if he felt some of the warmth in the metal and it brought him comfort.
For Bucky, Steve thinks he can be a romantic now, after all these years have brought them back together after he thought Bucky was lost to him forever.
-----
Bucky's getting better, living with Steve in Avenger's Tower. Though they're not what they used to be to one another. But it's Valentine's Day soon - maybe Steve can show Bucky just how much he still cares.

Conversation Hearts by @alpineandbucky
[Meet Ugly, 4 416 words, Explicit]
Summary:
If you were to ask Steve, the only good thing about Valentine's Day is when the clock strikes twelve, signaling the beginning of February 15th.
Also known as 'International Discount Chocolate Day'.

Review of some anti-Tony comments from Ao3. Part 6
Let’s talk more about things from Part 1 today:
 “Tony was actively attacking someone from behind, who was just trying to leave.”
Eh? So how did that happen that he only attacked from behind ONCE? Semi-behind, to be exact - see my post with Part 1. Why Bucky tried to leave if he was innocent? Just like he did before with T’Challa. “Why did you run?”.
I’ll add the extension of that statement here so we could figure the whole thing out: “Steve was actively defending said person in any way, even if that meant attacking Tony from behind.
And before you get on me about how I'm being hypocritical - it's been done - it isn't the action that's being criticized, it's the WHY behind the action. Tony repeatedly attacked someone from behind who was only trying to flee the scene vs Steve repeatedly attacked someone from behind to protect his best friend from being killed. That's the difference between the two. You can't hold them to the same standard when their reasons for doing the same action are complete opposites. It isn't the action; it's the reasons BEHIND the action.”
Let’s think about the most appropriate thing Bucky could do in the scene instead. Well, first he could say “I’m sorry”. That would be a good start. Doesn’t matter if he was brainwashed or not – his hands were used. “Sorry” is always good in such situations. He didn’t do that.
Instead he raised his gun at Tony and was ready to fire at his face (CA:CW 2:03:15). Yes, Tony hit Cap there. But it was for a reason. And you simply don’t point a gun at a guy who just watched his parents die by your hands, if you are innocent and truly regret this. It was so wrong to attack him that it just showed Bucky’s position “there’s nothing to explain and nothing to apologies for”, if the best thing Bucky could do is to raise his gun and run. Low and cowardly.
But we should actually take a closer look at that scene (starting from 2:02:17), because it’s even more complicated if we watch the scene frame by frame.
2:01:33 – Tony is watching the video of his parents’ death. Steve looks at him with a very interesting expression. At him, not at the video. He already knows what’s going on there. He is looking at Tony for his reaction.
2:01:38 – focus on Bucky who looks a bit regretful, looking at the floor first, but then raising his eyes to Tony.
2:01:53 – Tony hears his father saying “Sergeant Barnes” and his mother calling “Howard!”. Tony glances at Bucky.
2:02:05 – Winter Soldier hits Howard in the head and kills him. Tony’s expression tells us he is enraged.
2:02:25 – Winter Soldier kills Maria, strangling her with his biological hand.
2:02:33 – video ends with Winter Soldier shooting at the camera. Tony is in shock. Steve is looking at him, saying nothing. He had enough time to say something.
2:02:40 – Tony turns to Bucky and makes a step towards him. Not putting his helmet on. He is not attacking yet. Most probably he just wanted to grab him by his jacket and ask some questions or something like that. What Bucky does? He raised his gun at him. We can see tears in his eyes. Why did he do that then?
2:02:42 – Steve says “No, Tony. Tony”. He says that to calm him down, and that would be a good start. But then he does some “stupid-ass decisions”, how Fury would put that.
2:02:45 – Tony turns to him. He is devastated. He just realized something. “Did you know?”. Steve’s eyes are shifting rapidly, and after a long pause (when he was thinking of what to say, I guess), he says “I didn’t know it was him”. By his behavior here we can infer that he is lying. Tony sees it “Don’t bullshit, me Rogers. Did you know?”. Steve looks Tony in the eyes and swallows hard. “Yes”.
Let’s make a digression to show Steve really knew that Bucky killed Tony’s parents.
CA:WS 1:04:50 – Zola is explaining how Hydra eliminated unwanted individuals. Chronicle footage shows Bucky with a sniper rifle and then next frame with news article about Starks’ death. Zola says “Accidents will happen”. Next few frames show Howard in the car in the same position Bucky left him in the CA:CW 2:02:10 scene.  Then Fury’s file is shown, “deceased” – another victim of the Winter Soldier. No need to be a genius to put two and two together. Especially when you don’t know that there were other Winter Soldiers yet. There were no other options – Steve and Nat knew that Howard was killed by Bucky from that exact moment. But let’s add more evidence, shall we?
CA:WS 2:05:28 – Natasha gives Bucky’s case files to Steve. Logic tells us that they should contain his targets. Including Howard and Maria.
CA:CW 2:15:52 – Steve’s letter says “I know I hurt you, Tony. I guess I thought by not telling you about your parents I was sparing you, but I can see now that I was really sparing myself. And I’m sorry…”
Conclusion is pretty clear, isn’t it?
Let’s get back to the pre-fight situation:
So Steve admitted that he knew who killed Tony’s parents (and his own old friend btw).
2:03:05 – Steve’s “Yes” hits Tony. Rogers is just looking at him there. No sorrow or regret in his eyes. Tony loses it.
He is the victim in this scene. He came to help and was betrayed again.
2:03:12 – he hits Rogers with back of his hand. Cap is thrown a couple of steps back.
2:03:15 - Tony puts his helmet on. Now he is going to attack.
Put yourself on his place and answer the question “wouldn’t you act the same way?”. If your answer is “nope, I wouldn’t” - try to pass a CAPTCHA, because you are most probably a robot.
Same moment – Bucky points his gun at Tony. He almost opens fire, but Tony shoots the gun with a repulsor, knocking the weapon out of Bucky's hands. Back to the beginning of this essay – why would you shoot at a victim? Tony, most probably, would just hit him couple of times using his hands, if he had not faced counter aggression.
 Bucky is not running here. He wasn’t trying to run until Steve told him to at 2:04:02. He is attacking Tony. Look at his face (2:03:17). This is not the face of regret or sorrow.

On the Edge of Disaster
This is a fill for today’s @flashfictionfridayofficial prompt [#FFF209 On the Edge]  as well as my  @stonyauniverse  square  Canon Divergence.
Fandom:  MCU/Marvel Rating: Teen Pairing:  Tony & Steve,  Steve & Bucky Tags:  Canon divergence,  CA:CW fix-it, hopeful ending Word Count: 418 words
“Don’t bullshit me, Rogers. Did you know?”  Tony spat out, eyes flashing with anger and betrayal.
Steve couldn’t lie any more.  All the pain he’d thought he’d been saving Tony from had just been thrown in both their faces, a silent video recording depicting the brutal truth behind the death of Howard and Maria Stark.
And now it was so much worse because the cause of that pain was standing right there with them.  Not that Steve believed Bucky was to blame – he had been under Hydra’s control – but how could he make Tony see that too?
“Yes,” Steve replied, doing his best to keep his voice steady. “I know I should have told you,  and I’m so sorry I didn’t.”
Steve wasn’t surprised to be backhanded across the room, nor to see Tony turn on Bucky - picking him up and flying across the room to pin him against the wall before throwing him to the floor – he was clearly acting out of anger.   That said, Steve  couldn’t let things get worse.
Steve ran towards them, throwing his shield to keep Tony from punching Bucky while he was down.  He then stood over Bucky’s prone form, making no further offensive moves.    “Tony, you heard what Zemo said,” he cried out, even as his teammate aimed a gauntlet right at him.  “He did all this, starting with Vienna, to tear the Avengers apart.  If we keep fighting, he wins.”
Tony gave him a wild, anguished  look, but dropped his arm down to his side.  “Your friend has my parents’ blood on his hands!” he shouted.
“He’s right, Steve,” Bucky said quietly at their feet.  “And they aren’t the only ones.  Not by a long shot.  Let Stark take me in.”
Steve fell to his knees. “I can’t lose you again, Buck.”  He then looked up at Tony.  “And I can’t lose you, either.  Tony, you’ve been the best thing about waking up in a new century.  You gave me a home and I tried to repay you by hiding a secret I had no right to keep.”
“Damn right you didn’t,”  Tony’s words came out in a half-sob, as he dropped to his knees as well.  “What a fucking mess.”
“That’s one way to put it,” Steve huffed out a bitter laugh, and they sat together in silence for a moment.    “Any chance we can face that mess together?”
A wry smile ghosted around the corners of Tony’s lips.  “I guess that’s the only way to face it, Cap.”

more fic/series ideas because I have an overactive imagination pt1
ok I know I haven't been writing much recently, ive been going through a lot of emotional stuff but hey im getting better, but I just wanted to throw ideas out bc you can't stop me bahaha - that was weird sorry. these are from all different fandoms that I partake in so, uh, enjoy ig. idk why I wrote this so weird. (some ideas are better than others lol)
#1: a la folie (stargate sg-1)
(would be my first attempt at a psychological thriller type thing) you've been in the ward for almost a year and you start to believe the people in white coats when they said you've created a fantasy of a portal that takes you to other worlds and a team that has a Jaffa. That is until a woman named Vala bursts into your cell and begs you to wake up
#2: blood runs scarlet (mcu)
(not mcu!wanda friendly or really team cap friendly except Scott, bucky, and sam) set after events of CA:CW, the injuries that Tony had in the Siberian bunker were way worse than anyone thought. You're tired of your friend being treated this way, so you go on a hunt.
#3: this ends now, I see who you are (TVD/TO)
(once again back on my villain!reader bullshit) even Klaus has his demons. You're just one that never died and you're back to avenge your family. (think like Katherine level coolness but a little less bc I could never achieve that)

are there any aus you have for your muse? what are they like, and how is your muse different in them? is there anything in life your muse has changed their mind about over time (due to becoming more educated on the topic , certain experiences, etc .) , or that they would change their mind about under certain circumstances? Is your muse more likely to remove a problem/threat, or remove themselves from a problem/threat?
{out of equations} I actually have more AUs for White Vision, I think, than Red Vision, only because... since mine is MCU-based, there isn’t a lot of deviation from his initial situation and personality because he died so young. Vision never really had time to grow as a person or to maybe have his idealism and his heroic values challenged in the way a person who has lived much longer likely would. After WandaVision, however, Vision has a huge personality change (I mean where I take him afterward, not just that he was an emotionless weapon on the actual show) born of his disillusionment, anger, and feelings of betrayal over what happened to him. Before that, though, there were not a lot of turning points for Vision. There just wasn’t time. He wasn’t with us for that long.
But I do have a couple decisions or I guess moments where Vision chose a less ideal path or maybe a more difficult one emotionally based on new information or processing of information he didn’t like. So... the first one I can think of is at the end of CA:CW, when Wanda is sent to the Raft. Then in IW, we see them dating, heh. Well how did they get to that point? It was really freaking rocky. To explain why Vision didn’t immediately help Wanda, I have a little ball of headcanons that explains his absence from the rescue mission led by Steve, and it illustrates just how naïve Vision is/was and maybe him losing a little part of that innocence.
Basically, Vision trusted Tony. He trusted him to do the right thing, and he trusted his word. Tony told Vision that legally, everything would be cleared up quickly. he said Wanda would be fine and that she’d be home soon. He also didn’t tell Vision where she was being held or in what conditions. Vision... believed him. So he sat and waited. But the longer things dragged on, and the more he pressed Tony and received lackluster responses, Vision began to realize that Tony was bullshitting him. He was telling him things to placate him so he didn’t get involved and complicate things more. Once Vision realized that, from that moment on he was a lot less likely to take people at their words, especially about very important issues, without some kind of objective verification to go along with it. He decided to go find Wanda on his own, turning off his trackers so that Tony couldn’t follow. Upon finding Wanda and the others, Vision had to work hard over a long time to earn their trust again.
The other major deviation or AU I have is comic-based. Anon rpers have gotten me to delve a bit into the comic version of Vision where he and Wanda split up and he makes his own family of synthezoids. Because my Vision is MCU-based and I have the MCU background for him to contend with, I’ve kindof blended things together a bit. Vision’s reason for creating “The Visions” is because he and Wanda parted ways when she wasn’t interested in committing to him. My version of Wanda is very afraid to put labels on her relationships and is afraid of marriage and commitment past the point of IW because she’s lost a lot of people she loves. She feels like she’s a bit of a walking disaster who leads people she loves down paths of death and suffering. Her hesitation to move towards marriage and settling down with Vision wasn’t because she didn’t love him, but rather because she was afraid that something bad would happen to him, something would ruin the happiness, etc. Vision wanted to settle down with a family, so they went their separate ways. That doesn’t mean they can’t get back together later, especially if something unfortunate happened to Vision’s synthezoid wife, but that’s the gist of the AU. So that’s definitely a point at which Vision chooses something for himself and makes a difficult decision to leave someone he loves because it’s just not working.
As for the questions about threats, it really depends on what the threat is and who/what it’s threatening. If it’s a threat to innocent lives, Vision will stand and confront it. He knows he’s as close to indestructible as most people get, so he’d rather be the one to confront a great threat than having innocent people be directly in its path. If, however, the “threat” is just someone talking a lot of trash, heh, or it’s otherwise just something annoying or not overly urgent, Vision is more likely to try and talk it out or to take the high road and walk away.

I made a post, not even an hour ago, about the parallels between John Walker and Steve Rogers, particularly focused around how they used the shield in a similar way but resulting in two entirely different outcomes (John killing the Flag Smasher vs. Steve disabling Tony's suit).
And, as per usual, even though it's been almost five years since Civil War, and two since Tony finally kicked the bucket, I have a Tony stan in my notes talking about how he (Tony) was justified when it came to trying to commit murder by killing Bucky Barnes.
Tumblr media
I had honestly thought that we'd put all this bullshit to bed, but here we are, recycling old arguments (Al Gore would be proud).
Bucky Barnes, when activated as the Winter Soldier, had absolutely no control over is actions. To paint this in a similar light that Tony stans can understand, this would be like someone hijacking one of the Iron Man suits while Tony was inside and using it to murder people. Or take Ultron as an example. Tony created Ultron, so are the deaths that Ultron enacted on Tony's hands?
They have absolutely no problem understanding that in those examples, that of course Tony wouldn't be to blame for what others did with his tech. But when it comes to admitting that what Tony did in Civil War (attempting to murder Bucky, shooting Sam, breaking the Accords repeatedly) was wrong, suddenly they will perform any and all kind of mental gymnastics to absolve him of any guilt. Honestly, if defending Tony Stark was an Olympic Sport, Tony stans would bring home gold every time because they just can't seem to grasp that they can like a character and admit that they did something wrong.

Remember when Tony shot sam wilson point blank in the chest after he selflessly  attempted to save rhodey and then APOLOGIZED for not being able to even though the entire thing happened because team iron man were trying to take sam down in the first place? :)))
oh damn sorry is this the sam wilson show now? because i remember team iron man specifically showing up at that airport to talk and bring team cap back before ross sent people to bring them back using lethal force while team cap started the fight. remember how sam wilson was part of that? don’t tell me you forgot how tony stark was strung the fuck out because steve rogers couldn’t get his head out of his ass for three minutes and practically begged steve and team cap to come back before the situation got worse. or how tony did everything he could to deter ross from gunning steve and team cap down. oh i do hope you remember how rhodey is tony’s best friend and tony rushed to save him. or how rhodey wouldn’t have fallen if the entire airport scene didn’t happen and how it did because steve and sam said they couldn’t put their faith in their own teammate. gosh, i hope you also remember how tony is a human being with Actual Emotions (wow! what a concept! a human having real feelings! especially in distressing situations!) who was being pushed and pushed the entire movie and when he saw rhodey, his best friend, fall and then not respond, i’m sure the last thing he could deal with was someone who was just fighting against him trying to talk to him. remember how human beings are prone to lashing out in moments of stress?
or maybe you think that’s unreasonable, just unfathomable, ridiculous. since you’re apparently above all that, tell me how you would’ve reacted when the safety of your friends and the future of your team is weighing on your shoulders, no one is listening to you, you’ve got a time limit to bring your friend in as carefully as possible so he wont get shot, you’re doing everything in your power to keep people you care about from splitting apart, you watch your best friend (who you’ve known since you were a teenager, who’s been there every step of the way, your family), fall from the sky and not open his eyes, and a guy who was literally just fighting/helping to fight against you is trying to talk to you. do tell. i’m just dying to know.

why steve rogers returning to the past was wrong
disclaimer: im clearly a stucky enthusiast, but please, do not be thrown off by that. i admit, there may be undertones of bias because of that in the following, but i did my best with trying to lay out the facts and draw logical conclusions, so do please give me a chance. also, i may have accidentaly omitted some moments and some quotes may not be 100% word for word, as my memory lowkey sucks. ALSO this is NOT a peggy hate post!! i think shes a dope and underrated character and quite frankly she was done dirty. but i also definitely h8 the trope of badass woman falls for the hero.
first and foremost, every sane person knows endgame was complete and utter bullshit when dealing with steves character, so this post will be more for you to maybe show (and hopefully convince) some stubborn friend or family member. nice, concise (not) and including proof from the movies (+a few tweets and stucky undertones, if u dont fw that i respect it but bucky is an integral part to steves character regardless of how u interpret their relationship) here is why steves character development was thrown away at the end of endgame.
let us begin at looking at the cap trilogy.
in ca:tfa it should be noted that steve had no one to return to in the 40s, except bucky. i believe steves relationship with peggy was no where near as developed as it should have been to elicit him returning exclusively for her. as we are aware, steves driving force has absolutely always been bucky. bucky was there for steve after his parents died, when he was sick, and always protected him from whatever trouble he got himself into. "until the end of the line" right? steves relationship with peggy was forced and short lived, literally, we're talking a matter of months here. i need to keep emphasising the important disparity between bucky and peggy, as it is absolutely key in this whole argument. steve dropped everything and went against every order just to even attempt to save bucky. even the slightest chance of him surviving being captured was enough for steve to break into a hydra camp and free the 107th division. steve even had the chance to capture zola, one of the main villains and masterminds of the war, but again, steve prioritised bucky. when theyre trying to escape the exploding hydra camp, the exchange between steve and bucky is critical. steve says "go! get out of here!" as all he wanted was bucky escaping safely. he put bucky's life over his own (this wasnt the first time he did this, nor the last) but bucky rooted himself to the spot, and yelled back "no, not without you!". they both escaped safely as we know, and then steve gathers the howling commandos to take down the red skull. bucky then falls off the train, nd steve blames himself for his death, even visibly crying over it twice. steves morals went from "i dont wanna kill anyone. i dont like bullies, i dont care where theyre from" before buckys death, to "i wont stop until all of hydra are dead or captured" after. stuff happens and steve defeats the red skull and is now in control of the flying ship with the bombs. he connects the comms with peggy and she tries to convince him theres another way to disarm the ship. steve was so dedicated at that point he didnt even want to hear it. he didnt even attempt to do anything to ensure his survival. this alone proves, peggy was not important enough to him to return to.
next is ca:tws. The stevebucky movie. in the museum, peggy confirms that steve saved the man from the 107th division who eventually became her husband (steve was never in the 107th, just to clarify) i believe her husbands name was daniel sousa (as revealed in the marvels agents of shield show) steve then finds out peggy is alive and talks to her. she, in short, tells him she's lived her life, and it was his turn to live his in the time hes in. the "my best girl" line was unnecessary and out of place; again, steve barely knew her. again, shit goes down, and steve finds out the winter soldier is bucky and immediately drops everything, and becomes dead set on saving him. not killing, not imprisoning, but saving him. no matter the cost. "he saw me, and he didnt even know me" "hes not the kind you save, hes the kind you stop. he won't recognise you" "he will." god, steve KNEW bucky would recognise him. regardless of the brainwashing, steve managed to break through the barrier hydra fought so hard to drill into buckys mind. nothing ever broke him out of that state exept for steve. "im not gonna fight you, youre my friend." "youre my mission" "then finish it. cos im with you till the end of the line." [[good fucking lord let me break out of my essay-esque semi professional format here and just say how fucking heartbreaking those lines are. oh my god. read them, over and over until it hits you.]] steve shows us again, that he is willing to not only die for bucky, but literally die by his hand. he would let bucky kill him. he'd dropped his shield. he didnt fight back. steve always, always, ALWAYS got up and fought back. always. exept that time. the time bucky could have killed him. that scene is the essence of "im with you till the end of the line" because then, it was true. it was true because steve was okay with dying at buckys mercy. theres a difference between sacrificing yourself for the greater good (steve going into the ice), willing to die for someone (steve risking his life multiple times in attempts to save bucky) and finally, being willing to let someone kill you, because you love and trust them so much (hellicarier scene). the difference between peggy and bucky's relationship to steve is that steve may be willing to die for either, but only willing to be killed by one. not to mention, bucky pulled steve from the river. he recognised him. steve broke through 70 years of brainwashing with such impact it literally drove bucky away from hydra out of his own free will.
in between ca:tws and ca:cw its confirmed (im p sure sam says it) that him and steve looked for bucky for two. years. even off screen, bucky was steves priority.
im going to squeeze in 2 points from from age of ultron here, for chronology's sake:
steves worst nightmare, as portayed in the movie, is LITERALLY going back to the 40s and being stuck there (with peggy too??lmfao) and also the quote "family, stability, the man who wanted all that went in the ice 75 years ago. i think another one came out." objectively confirms that steve isn't the man he used to be, and doesnt want to return to the past. aou may have sucked, but that doesn't mean the character development should be thrown away.
ca:cw. hoo boy. steve went against 117 countries and half of his closest friends and colleagues because he believed bucky was innocent of the bombing of the un conference. god, steve quite literally, did everything to defend and protect bucky. though i shall acknowledge that steve did attend peggy's funeral, however, there was no real connotations there other than the fact he was mourning her death (understabdibly so). steve then proceeds to protect bucky for 2 hours 27 mins and 41 seconds to the point where they escape together to siberia after the airport fight. "i dont know if im worth all this steve" "what you did all those years... it wasnt you. you didnt have a choice." "i know. but i did it" again, absolutely heartbreaking quotes if you read it a couple of times and truly understand the meaning of them. steve somewhat indirectly tells bucky yes, yes he is worth all of this. otherwise, he wouldn't be doing it. a quote to support that would be "for the longest time, i always did what i thought was right." (disclaimer this is not a direct quote i deadass couldnt find it to save my life, i belive steve said it at some point during civil war or tws, but the point is, bucky is the only thing that could have shaken steves morals so intensely.) and finally, the most important part of cw, the fight at the end with tony. bucky and steve constantly protected each other. steve kept fighting because he was fighting for bucky. to keep him safe from tony and the world. he got up, time and time again. "i can do this all day." the fact that he said that to tony, some people consider them the closest of friends, proves again, a million times over, bucky is more important to steve than literally anything else, INCLUDING his shield. his mantle. he dropped it and left it like it was nothing, because his priority was bucky. as always.
theres not much to discuss for infinity war other than their hug whicg was honestly just adorable.
mmmmm endgame. i will not go into how much i hate that movie because it would be a rant quintuple the length of this one. in the support group, steve dead ass fucking says "you gotta move on. you gotta move on" and that sentiment was literally forgotten at the end. my main point for endgame is this. people tend to tell me, the reason steve abandoned bucky and went back to be with peggy is because he knew that he was finally safe. :/. if you had half a braincell youd know that's not true. the steve we know, never would have left bucky for good, ESPECIALLY after the "dont do anything stupid until i get back" exchange [[god i want to beat the shit out of the r*ssos]] mostly because, bucky had fucking no one in the time he was living in!!! no family, no friends and most heartbreakingly, no one he could trust. (yes sam was there but were just seeing their friendship develop now in tfatws, all that wasnt there in endgame) and secondly, what made steve think bucky was entirely safe??? half of the worlds population just suddenly reappeared, which as we see now, there were massive consequences for that. i simply believe steve is not that stupid. steve going back was disrespectful not only to his character, but to bucky AND peggy. most importantly, the steve we've been watching since 2011 would NEVER abandon bucky, no matter how safe he thought he was (he visited him frequently in wakanda, the safest place on the planet arguably ffs) especially for such a dumbass and quite frankly, nonsensical reason as going back to be with peggy, who clearly stated to him she moved on, and so should he (which he did. idk endgame writers prolly didnt watch the previous movies :/) its not even debatable. bucky is more important to steve than peggy. even in terms of screentime.
now allow some tweets to speak for me, this one being the absolute most important one:
Tumblr media
ladies and gentlefolk, all of the stuff ive said can be summarised in that last line. "it would be contrary to who he is."
heres some more:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and now finally, id like to briefly mention steve and tfatws, so beware of spoilers (writing this as of ep 4 coming out; praying it doesn't age badly)
bucky mentions steve, unprompted, fucking constantly. he clearly isnt over steve leaving, and im hoping that gets acknowledged and talked out in the show.
in conclusion, tl:dr, steve shouldn't have returned to the past and stayed there, it is contrary to who he is, as shown to us through his trilogy and other appearances in the mcu. not to mention the timeline bullshit in endgame makes zero sense in the first place.

Reading wikis to find out what’s been going on in comicsland since last time I read them and am my usual ??? because comic book logic and other nonsense.
But mainly.
Tim opening a bar in New York named the Wounded Duck?
AMAZE.
Also, though, also.
Post CA:CW Tony Stark wandering into said bar after getting back to New York after another Accords meeting, right? Doesn’t want to go back to the Tower or Compound or wherever the hell he’s living at the time because he spent the better part of the day (or longer, who knows how long he was dealing with that whole mess this go around) just yet, and hey.
A drink sounds nice.
(It’s not really a drink he wants, just. Something and a bar’s as good a place an anywhere else to be because - just his luck - there’s a storm brewing and he’s feeling sorry enough for himself to fall back on self-destructive habits even if he’s been doing better on that front lately, and fuck it, why is he bothering to rationalize any of this, you know? A bar’s a bar a bar.)
Only.
He gets inside and the bartender takes one look at him and instead of the drink he asks for he gets, a club soda with a twist of lime or some mocktail with a little paper umbrella or hell, just a coffee.
The scowl he gives the bartender because that is not what he ordered gets a raised eyebrow and this tilt of his head and the feeling the guy can see right through whatever bullshit Tony’s about to give him and Tony’s like.
Fuck it, you know?
Not worth the fight, and it’s not like he really wanted that kind of drink anyway.
(Maybe he’s got this chip he keeps on him, one he never expected to ear, let alone deserve, and anyway.)
So Tony sits there and nurses whatever drink the bartender gives him, and when he leaves feeling a little less like the the universe used him as its own personal chewtoy again and more like himself he leaves a decent tip for the bartender.
(Gets a look from the guy on his way out, little nod like the guy knows how that feels and Tony gets the feeling he’s one of the few who might.)
And then!
It just.
Becomes something that happens, you know?
Tony stopping by the Wounded Duck after getting back in town from dealing with the Accords or regular business. Hell, once or twice from dealing with Avenger-ing BS.
The bartender never serves him alcohol, though, no. Just sets him up with another club soda or mocktail - like he’s working through a list or fucking with Tony if that’s the case - or a coffee and leaves him to his own devices.
Has to know who Tony is, not like Tony tries to pretend he’s anyone other than who he is even if he doesn’t advertise it, but.
He’s not hiding.
But the guy never says anything, and better yet the media never gets wind of Tony’s new favorite bar - Pepper might actually kill him if they did, or worse, be disappointed because he worked to get that damn chip and she’s so proud of him for it.
Anyway, anyway.
One of those times he stops by the bar things are quiet enough and Tony’s in a good enough mood he actually talks to the guy other than giving him his order.
And it’s like.
He’s kind of an asshole, you know, but he’s Tony’s kind of asshole?
More importantly he’s not put off by having the Tony Stark frequent his bar, or starstruck or who the hell knows.
Just snarks right back at Tony and it’s delightful, okay. Goddamn fantastic. Smart bastard too, smarter than he lets on and Tony bets he doesn’t miss a damn thing.
They do the whole small-talk thing at first because for all Tony’s been coming to the Wounded Duck for a while he’s never talked to the guy before, not really. And before he knows it they’re talking current events because television in the bar and news channel and some talking head or another talking about nothing they don’t actually know a damn thing about, and it’s annoying.
And the guy - says his name’s Cal Corcoran, which face it, sounds fake but not like Tony gives a damn, really - has opinions, okay.
So they do that for a bit, and then one day the televisions on to some show or other talking about the Accords and Cal gets this look on his face like...well, like Tony doesn’t know because God knows everyone and their fucking dog has opinions about the damn Accords and aren’t shy on sharing theirs with Tony.
Because Tony fucking Stark and the fucking Avengers and the goddamned Accords, and anyway.
Yeah.
But Cal surprises him because he’s got opinions, it’s true, but he’s also got suggestions, and Tony’s like oh?
And then, idk, just.
Tony and ~Cal being friends, and maybe the Accords are this gray area between them because reasons, but it’s not like that’s anything new for Tony there. (At least Cal’s still talking to him, you know?)
But then the Accords are put in place with amendments Tony fought tooth and nail for - and most importantly Ross is about to be someone else’s problem thanks to Tony and some intel someone sent his way he couldn’t quite get his hands on.
(Don’t get him wrong, Tony had plenty on the bastard on all the things he pulled over the years, but this little batch of ugliness was like the cherry on top to make sure Ross went away and stayed that way.)
Which means the Rogues or whatever people were calling them would be pardoned, coming back and Tony’s like.
Relieved because that something he’s known is coming for the past however many years is still out there and they’re going to need all hands on deck, and anyway.
He’s tired, too, you know?
Just.
Tired.
Anger half-burned out of him in the aftermath of a fight in a bunker in Siberia, the rest beaten out of him over the months that followed wrestling the Accords into something workable. Into recruiting new members for the fight ahead, doing everything he can to make sure the world might have a chance when whatever is out there finally comes calling.
So the Rogues or Avengers or whoever the hell are coming back and Tony goes to the Wounded Duck the day they’re set to arrive back in New York because.
The Accords committee has someone to meet them at the Compound to talk them through the terms of their pardons and changes and anything else, and he just.
He’s not hiding, exactly, just.
A drink sounds nice.
He and Cal are friends of a sort by then, and Tony would be lying if he said he just went there for a drink every now and then. That he liked the place, the atmosphere. Talking to Cal about who knows what.
That maybe he likes seeing Cal after a rough day, or even a good day, and maybe, maybe Cal feels the same.
(And if it’s because they’re friends of a sort or maybe something more, that’s not a bad thing, you know? Might be a bad idea, but Tony wouldn’t mind just having a friend in Cal if nothing else.)
Anyway, anyway.
Everything’s kind of a mess at the moment because reasons, and then everything’s a mess because there’s some supervillain nonsense or other and it spills over into the Wounded Duck one day.
Tony’s oh, shit because that’s his favorite bar and there are, idk, Doombots on the rampage and one of the bastards is about to wreck the place up -
Only.
By the time Tony gets there - a wall or two knocked down, rubble and dust and broken Doombot down in a corner and Cal standing there with this annoyed look on his face and muttering about damages and so on and “Oh, hey, Tony,” when Iron Man bursts onto the scene worried as hell about what he’ll find in the wreckage only to find all that.
“Uh...”
“You want your usual?” Cal asks, because the rest of the Doombots are all down and everything’s over but the crying cleanup and by some miracle the Doombot didn’t make it past that first wall.
Too early for Cal to have opened the Wounded Duck so it was just him inside, but the place is (surprisingly) intact and while Cal’s annoyed he’s taking the whole thing better than expected, and you know what?
After dealing with the damn Doombots (again) and lingering resentment/awkwardness between Tony and former Rogues/whoevers (it’s getting better, but wounds like that take time to heal), a drink sounds nice.
So Tony gets his usual, and after a bit the others trickle in because someone mentioned seeing Tony head this way and Cal looks up at them when they come in.
Gives Steve and the others a Look.
(No matter Cal’s opinions on the Accords, on what went down in the so-called Civil War nonsense, he is friends with Tony and that means something.)
And Cal offers them drinks, because it’s his bar and that’s what people do in bars.
(He might not always give them what they ask for, but that thing where he’s kind of an asshole, and anyway. Yes?)

I feel really bad for Emily VanCamp for all that she’s had to deal with playing Sharon Carter. She had to deal with a lack of support from her Marvel co-stars. She had her screen time reduced even more than it already was at in CA:TWS and CA:CW. And then she had to deal with death threats for a kiss in CA:CW that she had no control over.
She had to deal with all of that and still came back for Falcon and the Winter Soldier only to face some more bullshit. Because, let’s face it, as much as I like Emily VanCamp and Sharon Carter, her Sharon Carter is ruined as a character. I definitely get her being bitter about what happened to her and not feeling any positive feelings towards the US government. It would be one thing if Sharon was a jaded former spy who got screwed over by the US government.  It would be another thing if she was a art thief/dealer or if she had joined a group like the Flag Smashers to stand up to US imperialism and capitalism.
No. What the show turned her into is a person who took advantage of oppressed people and refugees, many of whom would have been people of color, all to get more power. This blonde haired white woman was exploiting poor and oppressed people all for her own benefit. She’s also taking advantage of Sam, an incredibly caring Black man, who saw what she was going through and wanted to make things better. She even sent someone to kill him. Like, do people not get how fucked up all of this character development for her is? And I know that villains get redeemed all the time and if people can like John Walker, then they can like her too. But, like, nothing is ever going to take back the fact that she was willing to exploit and hurt poor and oppressed people just to get more power.
I really don’t see how a future storyline could make all of this better, I really don’t. The only two things I could think of are that she’s a Skrull who did all of this or if she had to take on that role for some reason regarding Secret Invasion.
Regardless, Emily Vancamp would have been better off focusing completely on The Resident and turning Marvel down.

hi! i was wondering if you’d recommend other authors that you enjoy or even specific fanfics you like? i’ve only just started getting into the steve/tony fandom and want to follow more people! thank you!
Hi there!!! Welcome to the fandom!!!<3<3<3
I’m so glad you asked this question since I’ve always wanted to do a fic rec post!!!!
HERE WE GO:
10K+ WORDS (ONE CHAPTER) FICS:
Quit while you’re ahead by magicasen
“It began, as things tend to between them, as a bet.”
the reason you ruminate the shadowy past by Mizzy
“So, Captain America effectively manages to cockblock Tony for a year.
It's not Steve's fault. Well, actually, it is. But he was just proving a point - that if a superhero is gay, how can it be wrong? Steve just picked the wrong superhero to make the point with. Now America will think they're dating - and Tony's not going to be the guy to break Captain America's heart.
There's only one way out. To save face, Steve and Tony have to become fake boyfriends. Steve thinks the "boyfriends" bit will be the hardest to act... but maybe it's the "fake" part that will be the hardest act of all...”
made to make you blue by gottalovev
“Steve, drunk for the first time since the serum, hits on Tony. It's everything Tony's ever dreamt about, but he refuses to have sex with a drunk Steve who can't truly consent. They do kiss, though, and Tony stays the night. The morning after brings a misunderstanding of disastrous proportion, where both men wrongly assume the other is uninterested. Life gets extremely complicated when Enchantress, mad at Thor, casts a spell that links people who love each other together, letting them feel the other's pain.”
On the Turning Away by thegraytigress
“Tony's new relationship with Steve is going great. They're a few weeks into it, and it's utterly amazing. He's feeling better and more sure of himself than he ever has before. Honestly, he's flying high.
But then he asks Steve a simple, logical, and seemingly innocent question: "do you want to spend the night?" And everything comes crashing down.”
love the sin, love the sinner by silkspectred
“It keeps happening. Not often, just once or twice a month, but it keeps happening. Always in the same way: it’s unplanned, sudden, unexpected, Steve is surprised and eager, his dick goes from zero to one hundred in two seconds, Tony’s touch is electric, everything he does drives Steve crazy, but he never lets Steve kiss him, he very rarely looks Steve in the eye, he never talks, never makes a sound when he comes, never mentions it later.”
Of Beards and Best Defenders by nannersmelo
“Tony finds out about when Steve had a beard once upon a time, and outraged that he never got to see it, decides to find a way to witness it by himself.”
Tony Pretends To Date Steve (Until He Doesn't Have To) by HappyStony
“"You alright?"
Of course he was not alright! Tony had a blue eyed, blond haired, six foot too high, two hundred who knows what pound, too sexy for his own good ninety something, mentally twenty, year old man on top of him. Who even asks that question in a situation like that?
Or: Basically the title. Tony pretends he's dating Steve until...well, you know.”
i have found the one (whom my soul loves) by soniclipstick (veriscence)
“It's been months since the Avengers were pardoned. One by one, they'd all gone home, until Steve finds himself alone in the grand old building T'Challa had given them.
But everything changes when Steve answers the doorbell, and Tony Stark strides in with more grey on his temple and make-up on his face than Steve remembers.”
Hating Steve Rogers by nanasekei
“The thing about hating Steve Rogers is that it shouldn’t be easy - but it really, really is.”
we have become something different, beloved (tragic and lovely) by Areiton, venusiaries
“"What's the Accords?" he asks, and Tony's head tilts. "I don't think that concerns you," he says. "But you don't deny that it's something." "There's a lot of something's I'm involved in that you don't know about," Tony says.
~~~~
There's a story, years long and publicly known, about the way the Avengers ended and why. And then there is the truth, carefully hidden and protected.”
remedy by quidhitch
““I like the walls,” Steve shrugs, knocking his knuckles against the side as if to demonstrate. “Makes me feel covered.”
A soldier in a fortress, Tony thinks, which is a pretty ridiculous thought to have about Captain America and his enormous limbs stuffed into a too-small bathtub, but there it is.
Or: Tony Stark learns a thing or two about what it means to be In Recovery™.”
Binary System by Annie D (scaramouche) ( @no-gorms )
“Tony tends to be tactile with people he trusts. These days that list of people includes Steve, which is a good sign of the progression of their friendship. For his part, Steve seems to enjoy it as much as Tony does... until Tony goes a little too far.”
The Best Policy by starknjarvis
“Tony Stark breezes through life on bluster and bullshit. When he gets hit by a truth spell, he locks himself away in his workshop so he can find a way to reverse it without anyone finding out. So why can't he say no when Steve keeps asking to spend time with him?”
Slipping off the Page into Your Hands by Sineala ( @sineala )
“Soulmates have their first words to each other written on their wrists. This should make it easy. For Steve and Tony, it is anything but. Steve's problem is that the future he has awoken into is nothing he was ever expecting: he has a soulmate now. Who might be a robot. And if his soulmate is Iron Man, how can he be so attracted to Tony Stark? It should be impossible. Tony's problem is that he is Iron Man, his soulmate is a man whom he in no way deserves, and he is going to fight everything in his heart and do his best to make sure Steve never, ever finds out the whole truth.”
How to Win Affection Without Really Trying by Annie D (scaramouche)
“Tony almost dies saving Steve’s life, but that’s just part of being an Avenger. It’s no reason for Steve to get all weird and intense around him afterward.”
A Certain Affinity by miobambiino ( @miobambiino )
“"They were like that a lot nowadays, ever since they got back from their little kidnapping escapade. Sure, they’d been close before then - they all had - but now… it was different. They were close, close. Squishing up next to each other, whispering to one another, playing with each others hair, apparently.
Steve inwardly grimaced at himself. He was being bitter and petty, he knew that. But he couldn’t figure out why, though. His teammates were getting along, which is only a good thing. Especially considering how they started things off way back on the helicarrier. But since when were Tony and Nat this cosy?"
Aka Steve is jealous of Tony and Nat's friendship, gets the wrong idea, and requires a little help from Nat herself to get some well-needed perspective.”
Admiring the Scenery by Annie D (scaramouche)
“Steve’s used to people checking him out, but when Tony does it, it feels… different.”
Symmetry Breaking by Annie D (scaramouche)
“After the Battle of New York, Steve rode off on his motorbike. That's how it went the first time.
This time he rides back, all the way to Stark Tower, where he asks Tony for help.”
MULTICHAPTERS FICS:
almeno tu nell'universo by silkspectred
“Tony drives off.
Well, he wants to.
But he can’t.
Because.
Steve Rogers is in front of his car.
Steve fucking Rogers. Is in front of Tony’s fucking car.”
take my heart clean apart by mistymountainking
“He’s tired, so tired of waiting, tired of touches with no meaning, tired of holding his breath when Steve’s in the room, tired of keeping this love to himself.
“I can’t—I can’t, if you don’t mean it.”
***
Tony comes home exhausted after an SI event. Steve acts as welcoming committee. It's an old, careworn routine they've perfected over the years, but tonight ends up going in a very different direction.”
Thrust Issues by Sineala
“A battle gone wrong leads Tony to the unexpected and pleasant discovery that Steve is much more well-endowed than he could ever have imagined. But when Tony learns that Steve has never actually been able to sleep with anyone because of his size, Tony does what any good friend would do: he offers to relieve Steve of his virginity. Personally. Tony's determined, Tony's methodical, and Tony has a plan. He's going to get Steve laid. Tony just needs to make sure Steve never finds out that Tony's in love with him.”
Overhaul by Annie D (scaramouche)
“Steve knows that Tony has feelings for him and, since he doesn’t return those feelings, has been mildly dreading the day that Tony decides to do something about it. When that day finally arrives, Steve discovers that Tony’s wooing strategy isn’t anything at all like he’d expected.”
Whatever Makes You Happy by WilmaKins ( @wilmakins )
“Steve and his team never stopped Avenging. So when T'Challa tells them about strange events at the site of an ancient landmark, everything seems quite simple. Of course they'll help Shuri to investigate it - helping people is what they do, after all.
Until they discover that a race of alien empaths are harvesting human emotions as a source of power. Specifically, they're using the misery of one Tony Stark.
So, until they work out what's really going on, the fate of the world might depend on them keeping Tony happy.
Not simple. Not simple at all.
Set six months after CA:CW.”
a catalog of non-definitive acts by firebrands ( @firebrands )
“Tony's seen the way Steve watches him, trails after him just for a moment, then catches himself. Let it never be said that Tony Stark doesn’t pay attention. At least, when it matters.
*
Or, Steve, Tony, and the emotional fallout of keeping secrets. (Set in some nebulous time pre-AoU.)”
The Single Biggest Problem With Communication by BlossomsintheMist
“In the wake of Steve's return from the dead and the end of Norman Osborn's reign of terror, the superhero community is recovering--Steve has taken on a new role and Tony is trying to put his life back together. Things are still awkward between them, but they're determined to put things to rights. But when a discussion about their feelings leads to further misunderstandings, they discover that might be more difficult than either of them realized. Set in the early Heroic Age after the end of Dark Reign, this is a get-together story about crossed wires--and second chances.”
Broken by livink ( @anthonyed )
“After Siberia, Tony Stark faces depression, a giant purple alien and a forced reunion. Ironically, he feels as if he's the only one who is broken in this journey. Until he comes across Barnes. Then, Bruce, Natasha and Wanda. Later, he realises that the man who broke him is broken too and this is a story where they heal and find their footings back.”
wonderland by Areiton
“Six weeks after being abandoned in Siberia, Tony wakes in a Tower, next to the man who broke his heart and his trust. But the world--whatever Wonderland world they’ve landed in--isn’t like their own. The Avengers are happy here. Tony and Steve are married here. With a direct line to Steve’s emotions and the team that he’s always wanted--Tony is more than a little tempted to stay. Seeing how happy Tony is, how healthy Bucky is--Steve doesn’t disagree. But there are cracks in Wonderland and the shiny paint peeling might leave a nightmare behind--one that Tony and Steve will need each other more than ever, to escape.”
when i run out of road, you bring me home by quidhitch
““Oh, I won’t bother you.” The tone of Steve’s voice implies that he definitely will be bothering Tony, aggressively and frequently. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll keep to my farm, you keep to yours. Solitude together.”
Tony opens his mouth to argue that that’s not how this works, but he snaps it shut at the realization that Steven Grant Rogers is fucking with him. That twinkle in his eye has accelerated into a full-on glimmer, and the ends of his lips are twitching. Jesus, he hates this man. Or maybe he wishes he did. Tony can’t really tell the difference anymore.”
Down in Lonesome Town by resurrectedhippo
“Tony eyes him. “Why do I always find my way back to you?”
Maybe he didn’t necessarily return to Steve, but fate is a funny little thing, and after living a life of loss, Steve wants something that’s his to keep. Tony deserves a love that’s unrestrained; Steve thinks he’ll erupt with it.
Love is messy, not easy, and takes work.
Maybe love feels like rage.
But maybe love could just be jumping off a rocky mountain and smiling anyway.
After the universe is restored, Steve is lost without any direction. Retiring from the Avengers, he moves across the country and ends up building a house by a misty blue lake. Across the bridge is Tony Stark’s new workshop.”
In the Stillness of Remembering by elise_509
“Steve Rogers is a reminder of a past that Tony Stark would rather forget. But when Steve’s own ghosts suddenly become the present, Tony finds he and Steve need each other to face the future.”
Good For You by orbingarrow
“Steve doesn't understand why Tony dates people who abuse him. Tony doesn't understand why Steve cares.
The rest is bad choices, good choices, rehab, milkshakes, paintball, YouTube videos, couples therapy and learning to put the past in the past. Or: How Tony finds his happy ending.”
I dont understand why MCU insists on calling 20yo as 'kids'.
Wanda was a 27yo in CA:CW who willingly joined Hydra at the age of 24/25 & did not regret for one bit and despite all of her actions, made to be a hero.
While Karli was around 20 in 2024 & despite her good intentions went violent and apathic along the way. (But her role as a villain was not diverted to a hero. At the most she was an anti-hero wanting to help people around the world.)
Like we do not see that for Tony when he took over SI at 21 or Natasha who was an assasin in her teens. For these instances, Tony is a villain for not knowing weapons sold under the table (his only crime was not paying better attention where his weapons went) & Natasha is a selfish honeypot killer & would betray anyone to save herself.
What do you think about this?
I got sidetracked alot but I hope it answers your question
I think its ass that they fucked her character one of the only openly Jewish characters to get likes and they succeeded. They victimized her and made her the ultimate I'm a white women who can get away with being infantized.
Karli literally is a direct output from the super serum its fucked her without her knowledge she is literally under the influence(she still faced repercussions and if mxu Steve was alive and well you know his reaction to her would be different). Natasha is jumpy on her own but she always it open about the fact that she will do whatever it takes to keep herself floating but even she was ready for the pushback by exposing her own secrets. And Tony was drugged out and falling into his father legacy unlike his father tho he realized that something is wrong here and begun to fix it, he fucked up, and so did natasha but their reactions to doing so from fans were overwhelming angry unlike wanda who is now a grown adult and still purposely hurting people.
Wandavision makes me mad. She is a actual child dating captian America in canon she doesn't really know what's happening, she's still whiny and a bitch tbh but her plot was handled better and with more plot line then slapping wanda smack dab in the middle of what was already becoming a mCU fuck up of plot lines. She was more able to be sympathized with in the comics.
And alot of her fans are White teen girls who don't care about her orgins or why this version of her sucks. They think they relate with her when they really don't because #girlboss and feed into this she needs to be protected smol bean bullshit.
And its not just her tho mostly all the introduced villans and opposition as of late have been widely accepted and watered down. Disney is blatantly showing their racism in alot of their movies shows and projects and all those characters have been accepted and defended for by their predominantly white fan base. INSERT KYLO REN (I like his character but I'm black I won't defend him but we see people dying for him on tumblr). Even Mal from descendants got infantized for drugging Ben while Uma a black female lead was made to be a villain and horrible person for doing the same thing, people where even mad that she got a redemption at all.
Fatws right now is the only show of Disney's that I'm actually feeling, disneys becoming more ballsy with showing us they don't care about their, poc fans and actor/ress, religious alignments, lgbtq canon and even back ground characters etc every time and it's getting mad uncomfortable. I stopped supporting disney plus because of it (mulan) and I've only been back on my sister profile for f&tws and next loki.
SAMBUCKY IN LIKE 2 HOURS HOW THE HELL DID I FORGET
I was going to write some random theories I had ab the 1st episode but I’m like... this could go wherever, honestly
First scene or close to the beginning is just Steve’s funeral, like opening shot is just the coffin being lowered into the ground or a la Peggy’s death in CA:CW
Sambucky working together (training montage!) and being proper assholes to each other but in the best friend way
Random attack to establish sambucky partnership and them in action
Bad guys are also established with an attack against pariotism or something idk
Ross (the jerk one) is there for some reason spouting political bullshit “have to get things back under control after blip, blah blah”
*sambucky rolling their eyes and sharing exasperated glances*
Zemo shows up at the last second offering help (but he has his own agenda, as you do)
Please let us have Sharon I’m b e g g i n g
This is very short but if you couldn’t tell I’m very excited! Sam and Bucky are just such interesting characters and I think Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan really deserve to have their characters fleshed out even more with the dynamic they have going on. Even if it’s a basic-ass show I’ll probably still like it just for these characters.
𝙼𝙴𝚃𝙰:  𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚊𝚙𝚢  /  𝚍𝚛.  𝚛𝚊𝚢𝚗𝚘𝚛.
I  want  to  preface  this  with  the  fact  that  the  writers  of  t.tfatws  are  purposefully  writing  Dr.  Raynor  as  a  poor  therapist.  This  is  a  narrative  decision  to  go  hand  in  hand  with  other  narrative  choices  revolving  around  the  portrayal  of  the  government,  military  and  police  in  t.fatws.  Dr.  Raynor  represents  and  portrays  a  therapist  that  a  lot  of  veteran's  have  experiences  with  when  it  came  to  their  journey  in  seeking  mental  health  and  are  very  on  the  nose  with  how  bad  it  is  within  the  narrative.  Before  I  write  a  full  meta  on  the  two  therapy  scenes  that  we  see,  I  know  that  there  are  many  viewers  saying  that  Dr.  Raynor  is  using  "tough  love"  in  order  to  reach  Bucky  and  get  him  to  open  up  to  her,  however  this  approach  is  a)  inappropriate  and  b)  ineffective.
𝙴𝙿𝙸𝚂𝙾𝙳𝙴  𝙾𝙽𝙴  𝙱𝚁𝙴𝙰𝙺𝙳𝙾𝚆𝙽
The  very  first  therapy  session  that  we  see  between  Bucky  and  Dr.  Raynor  establishes  pretty  quickly  that  Bucky  is  not  comfortable  confiding  in  Dr.  Raynor  about  his  nightmares.  Instead  of  easing  Bucky  into  opening  up  with  her,  she  accuses  him  of  lying  and  proceeds  to  remind  him  that  the  reason  he's  there,  isn't  for  her  to  help  him  with  his  mental  health  but  to  report  to  the  Government,  that  he  is  of  sound  mind  and  not  a  threat.  When  Bucky  still  doesn't  open  up,  she  proceeds  to  threaten  to  write  in  her  notebook.  Something  that  Bucky  obviously  doesn't  like,  views  as  passive  aggressive  and  makes  him  uncomfortable.  Dr.  Raynor  goes  on  to  say  "You  don't  talk,  I  write.",  establishing  that  this  is  something  that  she's  done  before,  likely  on  a  regular  basis,  in  order  to  force  Bucky  into  confiding  in  her.
(The  following  is  my  own  personal  interpretation  of  Bucky's  feelings  about  the  notebook  writing  as  there  is  no  solid  canon  proof  of  it  ).  We  are  all  aware  of  how  the  Russian  branch  of  Hydra  controlled  Bucky  when  he  was  the  Winter  Soldier.  Not  only  did  they  utilize  the  mind-wiping  torture  device  chair,  they  also  used  Vasily  Karpov's  red  notebook.  The  notebook  that  had  Hydra's  brainwashing  words  written  inside  of  them,  which  was  also  used  by  Helmet  Zemo  when  he  triggered  Bucky  back  in  Germany  during  CA:CW.  It  is  not  that  far  of  a  stretch  that  Bucky  may  have  mention  this  notebook  to  Dr.  Raynor  during  previous  sessions  but  even  if  he  hasn't,  he  has  made  Dr.  Raynor  aware  that  he  does  not  like  it  when  she  writes  in  her  notebook  during  their  sessions.  Something  Dr.  Raynor  not  only  chooses  to  ignore,  but  uses  to  force  Bucky  into  speaking  to  her  when  he  does  not  want  to.
Next,  Bucky  establishes  that  one  of  the  exercises  that  Dr.  Raynor  has  given  him,  is  an  Amends  List.  A  list  of  names  of  people  that  Bucky  has  harmed  or  uplifted  into  positions  of  power  through  violent  acts  ordered  by  Hydra  while  he  was  their  opperative,  and  that  he  has  three  rules  when  engaging  with  it  and  that  by  engaging  with  it,  it  should  help  with  his  nightmares  (it  doesn't).  She  then  proceeds  to  go  through  his  phone,  and  rather  than  ask  Bucky  about  why  he  feels  that  he  must  self-isolate  and  pull  away  from  those  within  his  contact  list  (seen  as  Bucky  ignoring  messages  from  Sam),  she  instead  attacks  him  for  failing  to  nurture  his  friendships  and  that  the  fact  that  she  is  the  only  number  he  has  called  all  week  is  her,  is  "sad".  Likely  invalidating  the  effort  Bucky  went  through  just  to  do  that.
Dr.  Raynor  then  proceeds  to,  as  Bucky  rightly  accuses  her,  lash  out  at  him  due  likely  in  part  to  Bucky's  refusal  to  open  up  to  her.  "You're  alone.  You're  100  years  old,  you  have  no  history,  no  family—"  which,  predictably,  causes  Bucky  to  get  defensive,  and  so  she  once  again,  grabs  her  notebook.  Furthermore,  when  Bucky  does  eventually  open  up  about  the  calm  he  experienced  while  in  Wakanda,  and  how  he  was  forced  from  one  fight  to  the  other  for  90  years  and  that  all  he  wants  is  peace,  she  tells  him  that  it's  bullshit.
Dr.  Raynor  demonstrates  in  this  one  scene  alone  that  she  is  rude,  doesn't  care  about  him  personally,  and  would  rather  be  anywhere  else  but  there.  She  bullies  him  into  opening  up  by  threatening  to  report  his  being  uncooperative  to  those  in  charge  of  his  pardon,  invalidates  what  steps  Bucky  has  made  to  trying  to  reintegrate  into  civilian  society  and  passive  aggressively  uses  her  note  taking  as  a  means  of  forcing  him  into  confiding  in  her.
𝙴𝙿𝙸𝚂𝙾𝙳𝙴  𝚃𝚆𝙾  𝙱𝚁𝙴𝙰𝙺𝙳𝙾𝚆𝙽
Under  construction  for  now  because  there's  actually  a  lot  to  unpack  here.
Dr.  Raynor  arrives  at  the  police  station  after  Bucky  failed  to  make  their  session,  but  Walker  is  the  one  that  bailed  Bucky  out  of  jail  and  informed  both  Dr.  Raynor  and  Sam  that  he  would  no  longer  be  following  a  strict  schedule.  Likely  meaning  that  he  would  not  be  having  any  further  sessions  with  Dr.  Raynor.  A  Condition  of  his  release  is  to  have  a  session  with  her,  which  she  proceeds  to  demand  Sam  sit  in  on  without  asking  Bucky  (or  Sam  for  that  matter)  if  he  is  comfortable  with  it  and  once  more  is  being  passive  aggressive  with  the  notebook.
While  the  Miracle  Question  is  an  intervention  exercise  for  couples  and  family,  the  Soul  Gazing  test  isn't  and  is  likely  just  a  writers  decision  to  continue  the  staring  contest  gag.
Note
The more I see T0ny St@rk stans try to make parallels between Steve fighting T0ny in CACW and Walker killing an unarmed man begging for his life in FATWS, the more annoyed I get with the fact that Steve was not allowed by the narrative to use appropriate lethal force against a heavily armed white man actively trying to kill someone.
The fact that people drew parallels between Steve Rogers and John Walker isn't surprising, because those parallels are supposed to be there. John Walker is supposed to represent Steve Rogers of he had been a good soldier who follows orders when he'd gotten the serum. John Walker is what would have happened if Dr. Erskine had picked the candidate put forth by Colonel Phillips.
The parallels are supposed to be there. Steve isn't a good soldier (complimentary), but he is a good man, whereas John isn't really a good man, but he is a good soldier (derogatory). Which was why seeing this...
Tumblr media
... was upsetting and infuriating.
One used lethal force in a moment of rage with super strength he wasnt accustomed to yet in broad daylight in the middle of a crowded square while the other used just enough force to disable his opponent and prevent him from committing an unjustified murder.
They are not the same.
Yes, the parallels are there, and definitely intentional, but they're there to highlight the fundamental difference between who these two characters are at their core. Everything about John Walker is designed to showcase what would have happened if Steve Rogers hadn't been who he was. And this is something that was highlighted in this last episode by Zemo (of all people) when he was talking about super soldiers, directly noting that Steve was the exception, not the rule. He was the abnormality by bring such an incorruptible person. This was also something highlighted by the Flag Smasher (ironically the one who idolized Captain America growing up) being killed by the very symbol he looked up to (both figuratively and literally).
I know people have a lot of issues with The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, but I think it's doing an excellent job from a character standpoint.
Also, it should be noted that Steve Rogers has used lethal force before, its just never his first choice. He goes for the disable first, and then, after exhausting all other options, goes for the kill. Once again, a direct contrast to John Walker, who immediately uses excessive force. Steve Rogers never would have killed Tony unless he had absolutely no other choice, which wasn't the point they got to in Civil War.
