Hoje tirei uns minutos para retirar alguns livros da estante para doar. Alguns que li mas que nunca mais lerei novamente porque foram leituras que não funcionaram pra mim. Geralmente narrativas muito superficiais e sem aprofundamento psicológico das personagens me dão esse sentimento de ~nunca mais~ Sou leitora do time Amo Charles Dickens: detalhes detalhes detalhes.😌 E sempre que estou organizando minha pequena biblioteca, acabo parando pra folhear / visitar algum livro. Hoje li isso e compartilho aqui com você porque é muito bom, forte e reflexivo, como uma boa e necessária dose de café forte e quente logo pela manhã: "Não, não, o mundo não me agrada. A maioria das pessoas estão mortas e não sabem, ou estão vivas com charlatanismo. E o amor, em vez de dar, exige. E quem gosta de nós quer que sejamos alguma coisa de que eles precisam. My weather stick in action....after a beautiful week, its turned rainy. If you haven’t heard of a weather stick, apparently balsam fir twigs are sensitive to barometric pressure. I remember my parents always had one nailed up at their house and now I’m following the tradition.

I was thinking about how simple this stick is, yet it predicts the weather every bit as well as my more expensive outdoor thermometer/barometer. Which started me wondering if sometimes the new, improved way of doing things is more complicated yet no more effective than the old fashioned method.

Mind you, GPS was truly lifechanging for me because I have no sense of direction and trying to read a map while driving is dangerous - especially now that I need reading glasses. GPS has allowed me the freedom to wander knowing that I can always press the destination Home button and find my way back.

And I have a 22 inch TV on the back porch that I rarely use because the screen is just too small. Which is amusing because I grew up with a 13 inch B&W in my bedroom.

That said, TV is a good example of change not always being for the better. I’ve always lived within 20 miles or so of two large cities - so I was late to get cable because I had a plethora of OTA channels to choose from. Even when the switch to digital came....I could still get all of the channels with a bit of fiddling around...but I didn’t bother because I had FIOS.

Move forward to 2020 when my local stations again changed their broadcasting frequencies. Now, even with a really good indoor antenna, I “might” be able to get an NBC or ABC affiliate on my second floor if the weather is good. Because I now stream, I am no longer able to watch network news or any shows on a live basis without a lot of frustration and periodic pixelation. (say that three times fast). The networks don’t offer their programs live on their streaming apps and federal law prohibits any company from rebroadcasting OTA signals for free....so I either pay for cable or go without.

Which is a windfall for cable, satellite dish, and streaming services that offer network tv for a fee. But for the rest of us......perhaps the old way was better.

There’s other “improvements” I question the wisdom of. For example - car alarms make sense in principle - but honestly, at this point, does anyone pay any attention to the sound? I have accidentally hit the alarm button on my own fob and I’ve no doubt other people have done the same. And a loud motorcycle can set off a whole row of vehicle alarms. If the goal is to keep your car from being stolen, isn’t an old fashioned steering wheel lock more effective?

I rarely find anyone with a front load washer that sings its praises......in fact I’m told you need to be careful to leave the door ajar after each use to avoid mold building up in the seals. And I know from my friend’s recent experience - not only do they cost more to purchase - they cost more to repair. I know they use less water, but it seems as if technological improvements have helped all washing machines to be more efficient.

Goodness, this has unintentionally started to sound like an old person rant which is not at all what I intended. My point was simply that new and different is not automatically better.
