I know some of you found out the news later than others, and it's still very raw for you. I'm sending so much love your way, I know you had less support than some of us when you found out and that's got to feel terribly lonely. I've talked to some folks who were fine yesterday, and not okay today, and vice versa. Just know we are here luvs, we are here, and we're happy to talk. We're all going to be grieving for a while. So please be kind to yourselves. Give yourself some grace, it's okay if you can't do much right now. It's okay if you don't finish that gif set, or that artwork, or that fic. It's okay if all you do is get by today. You are doing enough. It's okay if you need to have distractions so you're doing twice as much as you did before. Distraction can help a lot with nervous energy. Give yourself room to be creative, and to let your mind wander, it could use a break. Take some time to laugh if you can. Pet donation scams

What is a pet donation scam? - This kind of scam is most commonly done with cats though on occasion a dog is used. When someone is doing this scam, they have went on a private group or public site and saved the post there such as it’s images,story, and the owners name. The scam is that when they repost it to here, they have edited out any real fundraiser method and replaced it with their own fraudulent one. They don’t actually own the cat/dog but have copied the real fundraiser just enough to pass it off as their own pet. Nothing in the post tells you it’s someone else’s pet as they really want you to trust them enough to send money without looking too much into it. While the images and story are legitimate, the other information has been purposely removed. Nothing given goes to the animal in need.

Was there an ask sent? - Commonly found by asks that are sent requesting private answers. Recently, these asks tell you they don’t want people thinking you was pressured into sharing the post and people might be weird about it. Really, they just don’t want people seeing your answer when the ask is searched because you’d see how many others have got it and may have called it out. These asks are designed to guilt trip you and shame people who call them out but usually gives it away their not being honest since no one would ask you something like that. You might get this ask by sharing a trending/popular post.

How much content is on the account itself? - When checking the blog out that sent you the ask or has the post shared by someone you follow, keep in mind how many posts the account has overall. Usually there’s only a few trending/popular/fandom posts shared and then the pinned post itself. Their archive is usually turned off so you can’t see this; But scrolling for a few minutes should mean you’ll find the last post quickly. Turning on timestamps should also show you the posts were all shared at the same time too and they don’t have any tags either.

Have you asked them questions? - If unsure of the account’s legitimacy, I suggest asking them a few questions about the pet: How long have they had them? Do they have older vet records of past visits? Can they show you a recent pic of them holding their name on a paper near the cat? Would calling the vet itself be possible for donating? Any of these would be answered easily by someone who actually owns the pet. But those who don’t own them won’t be able to answer or properly.

What is a quick way to spot this scam? - Check the date of the pinned post. It’s usually only a few hours old, a day old, or even a week old. Another way is searching the bio to see if it’s been stolen off someone else. Look at the vet location and then press/hold or hover over the link they give you. If the country doesn’t match the state, it’s likely not the real owner of the pets link. As these suspicious accounts tend to impersonate the actual owners closely in order to look legitimate.

What to do once you figure out it’s a scam? - Warn anyone who doesn’t know it’s a scam and has shared the post unless they’ve called them out. Report the account for phishing (Report -> Something else -> Illegal uses or content -> Phishing), block them, then alert your followers as well. Keep in mind scammers will always delete/hide any replies/reblogs that have called them out.

I have a transgender friend who needs help. Her name is Andrea and her username is @faulty-radio. She says she can’t find anyone who can help her get away from her abusive household or anyone who can help in any other way. She’s desperate for help and approaching suicide. I was hoping you can help spread awareness of her dire situation. Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance <3

I'm not sure how much I can help. My hearts been ripped out of my chest (metaphorically speaking)(entirely my fault). But if this is the last fuck I have to give today, or this week ... I've checked @faulty-radio 's blog.

An ultimatum has been set. January 24th. She/it turns 16 in December. HRT or Death.

To make this clear in advance, to the asshole bigots who love saying "anyone less that 18 is too young to make life-altering decisions", and "transition is permanent". If a child can make the conscious decision to kill themselves, well thats a pretty life-fucking-altering decision and entirely permanent. This is why we advocate for puberty blockers and social transition until 18 or allowed earlier after a few years of consistent psych eval. When that isn't available: this happens. You don't get to see this, but this is what I get in my asks, my DM's, and in my reblogs daily. I'm -not- a psychologist. I'm -not- a therapist. I'm just the last person that people think will listen. When I became the recipient of the last dying hopes of children, I don't know. But I hope for a day when I get fewer. I dream of the day I realize I got my last "is it really worth it?" message weeks ago and it becomes months or years.

@emilyreblogsbridget , does @faulty-radio have a donation link, and have they roughly detailed their plan? "Spreading awareness" means nothing if there isn't an avenue to help. All "spreading awareness" does is the equivalent of major media reporting on tradgedy and not sharing the fundraiser for the hurt victims. I'd suggest a direct ko-fi/patreon link.

I would ideally like for her to see a psychologist or doctor so it can be properly assessed prior to getting access to HRT or blockers, much like I was. It's important to be able to make a clear decision. Not just on medical transition, but on not medically transitioning as well. This is a two-way street of both determining if estogen puberty or testosterone puberty is correct. Having suicidal ideation or intent is something to assess where such feelings are coming from. Just because HRT may help, that doesn't mean there isn't more that needs working on. Transition doesn't solve all your mental health problems and concerns. I'm not sure of the intended path or process given I'm unfamiliar of her countries laws.

So if you want me to help then get @faulty-radio to reblog what they're trying to do in some specifics beyond "get HRT".

I think I caught a scammer pretending to be from Palestine

okay so for a little while now, I've been getting messages from my inbox (mostly accounts created for sharing around Palestine gofundme's) and my mom has always told me to be suspicious of Internet links and whatnot, I wish I would have paid some warnings to those words a bit and not have downloaded "free Minecraft" 10 year old me thought otherwise

But don't get me wrong, I want to help and donate! Unfortunately I'm not swimming in money but I share and reblog stories and participate in protest if I can!

However with scams rampant on Tumblr especially a Lot of the scam accounts being created only weeks or days before- and send messages to users inbox asking for donations. I always been weary of sending money online but I don't want to turn a blind eye to actual Palestinians, but I also don't really go with the "just trust me bro" vibe. So I offer to share their story's and reblog their post but they never respond back or anything.

And while I can assume they can't respond for many reasons, I have gotten wayyy too many similar messages almost repeating each other

And your probably thinking

"well alot of Palestine people are going through the same thing so duh of course it will sound similar!"

Well yes but I don't think they create accounts only a week old and send copy pasted messages with links to personal PayPals

Or maybe im tricking myself into being a dick?

Apparently my suspicion was met with a interesting answer

this is Haya Orouq and their family

They need help getting refugee from Palestine

But apparently decided to create a account on Tumblr sending messages to users inboxes with this PayPal link

Now like you are right now, I was confused

Why would you link someone's unrelated paypal and not mention it on your gofundme page?

And so I did the following

I shared the screenshots From the actual gofundme. Compared to what I was told by "saudias" They were intentionally misleading and lying in the original message (which I wish I would have screenshoted) about how much was said to be donated compared to the real gofundme. And gave no explanation for the personal PayPal. And didn't mention any of the people who help set it up. So I wanted to see what's up and messaged them.

final message: "because ya know"-

Message not sent: "Your a scammer"

And now their account is deleted...

So Fred let me get this straight

To make money off of it?

How extraordinary shitty of you turd shaped lump of cole

but your not the first and not unfortunately the last, and next time you'll probably try this again

Hi, I'm interested in organizing my fandom. Can you throw me some templates?

Absolutely yes! Some things have changed in recent weeks, so the top advice we can give you is to be flexible and adapt as you can. The needs of the picketers might change, so keep an eye on the news and the official WGA and SAG-AFTRA channels. Twitter is a good place to follow the union members on strike.

Also, don't feel the need to rush: there is plenty of time to build up a good foundation by talking to people in your fandom and testing the waters to see what people are prepared to do. Some fandoms just have more financial capability than others for whatever demographic reasons, or have more pro-union sentiment in the community. While you can't push anyone to do anything they're unwilling to do, you can find out what's possible and encourage interested people to get involved.

The next best advice we can give you is that this will require logistical skills; therefore, if possible, collect a small moderator team of trusted, responsible fandom friends with organization skills so it's not just you going at it alone. 3 people is probably adequate to start with, more if your organization expands.

I do recommend fandom organizers be at least somewhat active on both Twitter and Tumblr. That way, you can size up the big fandom accounts and figure out the best way to get the word out to your fandom on both sites. (If you have a mod team, you could even just have one person be your official Twitter liaison.)

Here are 3 methods to organize your fandom, and this applies to any fandom, so feel free to share this to whatever fandom group you want to get organized. Pick whichever method seems most feasible for your fandom, and go for it!

Method 1: Mod team assigns volunteers to shifts

Pros: very grassroots and non-hierarchical, can lead to the most consistent fandom support across time

Con: hardest to wrangle, and potentially more difficult for the shift-by-shift volunteers especially if individuals are difficult to reach online

Examples: The Star Trek Snack Squad, the OFMD Snackery

Claire Willett @/clairewillett on Twitter started the Star Trek Snack Squad back in the early days of the strike to get Star Trek fans organized. That's still a solid template to use, but will definitely require modifications. Link here (please make a copy to your own Google account/a throwaway if you'll be making it public and want to protect your identity)

How it works:

-You, the moderator, pick a specific picket location (all locations listed here) to target for delivery. (Since Stranger Things is a Netflix show, targeting Netflix makes sense; however, Netflix is already a very popular target location so maybe the other locations could use some love? I'll leave that to your discretion!)

-Moderators put out a call for volunteers. Make graphics, create a hashtag or catchy name, and get it boosted across the fandom as much as possible. Volunteers will then sign up (via an ask or a Google form, up to you—just make sure you keep track of who's volunteered and their Tumblr or Twitter username that must be open to DMs so people can talk to other people in their group.)

-Moderators organize 3-5 volunteers to a shift (morning or afternoon) on a specific date. It is then up to these volunteers to get talking and for one member to place a DoorDash/UberEats snacks/drinks order for delivery to the picket lines by pooling whatever money they can via Venmo or Paypal (the only international option). From $5 to $50, anything helps: it could be a case of Lacroix, it could be a whole meal for picketers. More instructions and ideas in the template.

-The template can be updated with new shifts until you run out of volunteers.

-If this method is a little overwhelming, fear not, there are other options!

Method 2: Single fundraiser on GoFundMe or PayPal Pools

Pros: Single place for money to go, very easy to set up and organize

Cons: Runs out of steam the fastest as a large monetary goal can seem daunting; money all goes to one place so there has to be a lot of transparency from the fundraiser.

Examples: Julie and the Phantoms hot dogs fundraiser, Lord of the Rings second breakfast (from SAG-AFTRA member Chelsea Schwartz's Ko-Fi); Our Flag Means Strike Paypal pool.

This is your basic fundraiser, which means the mods will have to decide how exactly the money will be used and how to have as much transparency as possible. Sometimes you're fundraising for a specific goal (taco truck at Amazon Studios, for instance). Sometimes you're pooling money to give to the Entertainment Community Fund. If you're looking for food truck options and don't know where to start, you can always reach out to people who have done the OFMD pooling here! From what I've seen, a food truck will generally cost around $3000 for a day, so plan accordingly.

[One possible fundraiser I haven't seen but would love to see is fandoms giving support to the Green Envelope Grocery Fund, which gives out $100 to people affected by the strikes specifically for groceries! So that's definitely an option as well.]

Method 3: Fandom auction for donations

If you're in a fandom that has any big-name writers/artists willing to chip in, you could organize an auction for commissions, with the proceeds going to the Entertainment Community Fund, the Green Envelope Grocery Fund or another WGA/SAG-AFTRA-related fund. As with the above, you'd need to be transparent as to where the money is going.

A final note: Organizing any kind of action from scratch is hard, but thankfully people have walked this road before. You can always contact us, or the people at any of the above linked groups, with questions or advice.

It may also be helpful to remember that lots of people have done this before successfully. During the 2007-08 writers strike, the Battlestar Galactica and Whedonverse fandoms were instrumental in showing fan support for the WGA strike. (More on that here!)

We're extending our fundraiser for Palestine Children's Relief Fund. We've exceeded our original goal of $500, and raised $2795 so far! The PCRF is currently supplying food and medical supplies to South Gaza, where refugees from the North are fleeing, but we must continue to call for a ceasefire! The Israeli Government has made it abundantly clear that it intends to carry out this collective punishment of Palestinians until it is forced to stop. To date - in this siege alone - over 5000 Palestinians have been killed, half of them children.

Charity Commissions for Vermont Floods

As I posted last month, my home state of Vermont (I am not there right now) experienced historic flooding, with many areas hit worse than when Hurricane Irene hit a decade ago. I'm offering short folktale-inspired story commissions in exchange for a donation of $5 or more to the fundraisers below. 💚

The charity commissions I'm offering

Give me a character or two (dragon, evil grandmother, talking plant, &c) and a situation or object (getting lost, a duel, a magic sword, &c) and I'll write a story of ~1,000+ words using both (and also some kind of twist because I read the Deltora Quest books at a formative age).

Stories got more interest in my poll, but I'll also do graphic design with free use images (e.g. unsplash and pixabay), if you want a fanfic cover or fanmix cover: example, second example.

How to donate & commission a story

To commission a story, donate at least $5 to Waterbury Good Neighbor Fund, NEKO flood relief, or message me for a list of GoFundMes (I'm trying to keep an eye out for GoFundMes that are legit and aren't yet close to their fundraising goal; I don't want to chase this post around editing and adding new ones, especially since I don't personally knowing anyone fundraising and how they want theirs shared, but ask me for links!) Then, send me a screenshot of your donation (please crop out any payment information).

I'm not in Vermont right now, which kind of puts a damper on the word of mouth experience. If you're in Vermont, let me know of any GoFundMes you know personally or nonprofits you've had good experiences with and I'll add them.

Like I said in my initial post, I don't want to discourage anyone from donating through the main gateways! They're just not what I'm focusing on for charity commissions donations.

Bad experiences being treated disrespectfully or dangerously by some other Vermont nonprofits (and neighbors and…) make me disproportionately grouchy about this, but I'll go with being a little grouchy being my niche in the Vermont ecosystem at times like this when it's hard not to think about how people treating others poorly in Vermont spreads out like ripples and makes disasters like this more damaging.

Don't hesitate to ask for the commission once you donate! I know sometimes people feel weird asking the person offering charity commissions to do the "work" of the commission for what's meant to be an act of generosity, but on a practical level each commission functions as advertising and makes it more likely other people will see the post and donate too.

(Of course if you really feel more comfortable simply donating, holyshtgoforit. 😃)

I've chosen something (writing short stories) that's fulfilling and doable, but if I do need to pause, I'll leave a note on this post. Commissions are open indefinitely; would love to get a few going this week as we reach a month since the mid-July flood and people are grappling with the damages.

Rebecca Sugar for the Trevor Project - Fundraiser concert

This is a writeup detailing the Trevor Project charity concert on June 12, put on by Rebecca Sugar, Jeff Liu, and Ben Levin. I'm posting this to share the songs performed, anecdotes, a few images, and anything of interest! This concert, in honor of Pride month, is to raise money for the LGBTQ+ suicide prevention organization the Trevor Project, the largest suicide prevention organization which supports the lives of queer youth--an issue super important to the hearts of these creators and their fans. They posted a promise that they would play a new original song never before heard in public if the fundraising goal of $20K is met!

Rebecca opens by introducing the group (Jeff Liu, Ben Levin, and Ian Jones-Quartey working as "the man in the chair" monitoring the donations and chat). The three of them were "the band" doing the demos throughout Steven Universe and they're really enjoying being together doing this again. Rebecca notes that they became a board member of the Trevor Project last year and they feel super honored to do this fundraiser for them. Throughout the concert, they mention the following resources that the Trevor Project makes available:

A 24/7 crisis line is available: 866 488 7386 to call and speak with a volunteer

The Trevor Text program can allow you to text with a counselor: text the word START to 678 678

The Trevor Chat is available for online chat with a counselor at trevorchat.org

The Trevor Space site is available for LGBTQ+ networking for people ages 13 to 24 at trevorspace.org

Donations are always accepted at thetrevorproject.org

You can train to become a volunteer at thetrevorproject.org/volunteer

You can learn about initiatives in all 50 states where you can get involved to take action against oppressive laws at trvr.org/advocacy

And there are tons of LGBTQ+ resources at trevorproject.org/resources

Rebecca personally referenced the Trevor Project's resources when trying to argue for the need for LGBTQ+ elements in cartoons. These links, numbers, and informative bits are shared throughout the concert periodically along with the opportunities to donate and support this wonderful organization.

After this, they get started with the first song--an abbreviated version of "Happily Ever After" from the Steven Universe movie. (They note that it's usually referred to as "Here We Are in the Future" internally because they were torn on the song name until the last minute.)

"On the Run" is next--written by Jeff Liu (who boarded on that episode as well). Jeff sings Steven's part in the song and Rebecca provides Amethyst's lyrics and the whistling!

Rebecca then introduces a song that was personally relevant when they were first getting started trying to put personal thoughts referencing their bisexual experience into cartoon music: "I'm Just Your Problem," in the Adventure Time episode "What Was Missing." Rebecca tells a cute anecdote about writing the song, making Ian leave the apartment they were living in so they could knock the song out, but then right after they figured the song out, they thought they forgot it and had to record it as soon as possible.

Rebecca then discusses their VERY FIRST song written for TV on their VERY FIRST boarded episode of Adventure Time--"It Came From the Nightosphere"--which is of course the "Fry Song," which they wrote with some help from Pendleton Ward. They told the anecdote about Ian trying to encourage them to sing it louder while playing ukulele on the roof. They sing a version of it that's longer than the version that got into the TV show!

Rebecca then says Jeff Liu was super into ska and so they were really excited to start including some ska tunes in Steven Universe--which they finally got to do with Sadie's band. The next song is "The Working Dead."

After some discussion of the donation status and the set list, they introduce a "Mr. Greg" suite, beginning with "Don't Cost Nothin'," and then Rebecca switches from guitar to ukulele to play a solo early arrangement of "It's Over (Isn't It)."

The next song is a slightly expanded version of "Peace and Love (On Planet Earth)," which Rebecca describes as "kind of a duet" but they do all the lyrics alone. There are some fun extra instrumentals in the middle and a more robust intro!

Rebecca says they're getting nervous about playing the new original song because at this point the stream isn't half over but they're halfway through their goal. They really want to share the song but they haven't practiced it much. Ian assures everyone it's good but Rebecca says he's biased. :)

They continue to discuss everything Trevor Project is doing to fight awful laws and help LGBTQ+ individuals. Rebecca reminds everyone that Ben is now a co-creator of Craig of the Creek and they want to do a Craig song. They do an expanded version of "Fireworks," which is the end theme written by Jeff Rosenstock.

Next, Rebecca says Jeff Liu's band, The Birds I Heard, has a great song called "Kindest Sound" off the album Finally (available on Bandcamp). Jeff sings and Rebecca does harmony with him.

Going back to cartoon songs, "Giant Woman" is next on the agenda. They note it's one of Jeff's earliest boarded episodes and have a good old time jamming on it before intermission.

After the intermission, Rebecca says they are now going to share a song that they wrote when they felt trapped and needed something therapeutic. Up comes an acoustic guitar and electric guitar duet version of "Escapism."

Next, an Adventure Time song is up--dedicated to Adam Muto, it's Rebecca's song that they wrote for the finale of the show, long after they'd left the show to work on Steven. They play a lovely ukulele solo version "Time Adventure." They said they almost called that song "See You in Reruns."

In discussing what helps and harms LGBTQ youth, the Trevor Project applies this research to help explain what laws and unsupportive environments have a negative effect on young people. But they also focus on what really helps us, and self-expression is really high on the list of what helps. Rebecca talks about the mental health resources they ended up accessing when they were facing huge amounts of pushback and censorship on Steven Universe, and they share a ukulele version of "Here Comes a Thought," a song they wrote during the thick of all of that.

Next comes a short lullaby from Adventure Time: "Sleepy Puppies." Jeff Liu is back joining Rebecca, both on guitar. Next up is another Adventure Time song, "On a Tropical Island/As a Tropical Island," which Rebecca mentions was so fun to write for Jake the Dog. Following is another Adventure Time song: of course they had to bring us "Everything Stays."

And finally, one more Adventure Time song: "Bacon Pancakes," described as the shortest song they wrote for the show and how they suspected it wouldn't be accepted because it's short. Rebecca says that song was dedicated to their dad because he would make gourmet breakfasts, and they gave a shoutout to their parents who might be on the chat.

Ben Levin comes back at this point and Rebecca tells a story about how Ben left Steven Universe before the movie but still "moonlighted" to help with the writing despite being on Craig of the Creek by that point. (New episodes of Craig in July, they say! Get excited.) From here they slide into songs from the Steven Universe Movie, and we get a cool guitar version of "Other Friends" with all three of them.

Next, with a shoutout to aivi and surasshu (aivi's got a new record label for gentle digital fusion, called Infloresce Records, album Floral Folklore is out; and surasshu's got a new EP called 24, digital ringtones for every hour of the day, on bandcamp), they go into playing "Drift Away," which was co-written with Aimee Mann, one of Rebecca's heroes.

Continuing with "the Spinel portion of the concert, dedicated to Spinel," Rebecca and Jeff begin to play "Found," with Rebecca sharing the anecdote about needing to write this song but not having it yet, then hearing the song in a dream and waking up to write it down. Ian pipes up that it's true, he was there.

And the final song in the "Spinel Suite" is a version of "Change" with Rebecca singing and playing acoustic guitar, and Jeff Liu on electric guitar. Rebecca describes this as very challenging. They really rock out.

Rebecca takes a moment to thank Ian for being "the man in the chair," for running the light show behind them, for being OK KO's creator, and for being their husband. :) From here, the concert goes into a solo with Rebecca and the guitar to play "Change Your Mind," which is a personal song that got worked into the show. Rebecca plays the full version.

The next song is "Love Like You," which aivi and surasshu wrote and Rebecca provided the lyrics. According to Rebecca, the duo insisted that they do the singing even though they're very shy. It is, of course, the end credits song for Steven Universe.

At this point, Rebecca was told that the $20K goal was just reached.

With the promise of a new personal song to be played dangling over the chat for most of the concert, it was exciting to finally get here. So "Good Morning Afternoon" is the title of the promised original song. Lyrics (transcribed, not necessarily official):

Because they're so excited about meeting the goal, they decide to give us a SECOND original song. They don't state the title. Lyrics (transcribed, not necessarily official):

To take us out of the concert, Rebecca closes with the song they got to write for OK KO: "It's Only Magic."

Everyone thanks the audience for watching THIS show as well and after one more glowing review of the Trevor Project's incredible resources and support for LGBTQ youth, the concert closes with about $21,000 raised.

Liam's Hockey Fundraisers

YOU GUYS ARE SO AMAZING!!!

Let me just start with thanking everyone who has shared this, donated, and/or bought a shirt! Literally every cent helps get him closer to his season fees being paid. I've gotten enough from these fundraisers so far to cover the first month's payment which is HUGE.

I'm sharing the links again, just in case you're new, or you missed them before and are able to share or donate.

The t-shirt is $30, which is a lot of money, but it's priced that way because we get about $10 after costs deductions and fees for each one sold. If that's totally out of your budget (don't blame you, it's out of mine), the other fundraiser allows donations as small as $2, which is still $2!!! When I say every cent helps, I mean it. There are so many people out there who need help with bills and emergency funds, and I totally get that we are very privileged to even be asking for money for a sport. Some help for my mom - UPDATED

Hello friends, you probably don’t know who I am since I haven’t been active here from years, and I rarely post anything, some of you even messaged me wondering if I was still alive, I'm so sorry if I ever worried anyone, I'm alive! I just don’t have time and motivation to be active these days, thanks a lot for you lovely persons who dmed me tho ♡ this and other reasons are why I regret letting my depression drown me for too long, because I’m feeling so tired right now, so lonely, but I’m also feeling desperate and helpless because I need your help. So my mom has been very sick from some time ago, but just recently, she got diagnosed with a brain tumor, and she needs a surgery urgently, like doctors gave her 2 months if we do nothing, and 1 has already passed, but the cost its high and I don't have enough money to help her.

I know I said before I was going to do commissions, but my time has been shortened since I also work long hours and taking care of my mom at the same time its really tiresome, physically and mentally, not that I complain in helping her tho. So maybe this year, hopefully I’ll make some progress with that. I'm sorry I'm rambling, I'm not very good with words, back at the matter…

I’m feeling REALLY ashamed to be asking for help, but like I said Im feeling desperate to help my mom, I only live with her and I need her just like she needs me right now, she’s suffering a lot, and the feeling of helpless its horrible because I can’t help her like she needs to.

So please, please, consider donate to make her surgery, she doesn’t have much time left, even if its a small donation, every cent no matter the amount its important to us, and it will help to do it as soon as possible.

EDIT: My mom survived the surgery with the help of everyone!! Thanks a LOT for all donations & shares! by changing the doctor we managed to give her a second chance in life 🥺 Also the tumor turned out to be benign!

Her doctor talked about her case on facebook !

SO GLAD we found him, the first doctor was charging us 22k while this doc charged us 10k (I put 3k from my saves) and it turned out all good! its amazing the improvement that my mom has shown ever since the 1st day of the surgery. And she's smiling 🥺❤️

Right now the only problem is the radiosurgery, and its another expense 😭 I dont know when this gonna end, but docs say hopefully is the last time, the probability is never 0 but she will need to be checked from time to time. In the meantime I will share the fundraiser for the radiosurgery, yeah I know, its shameless, but I really hope not to be in this position ever again after this. This time, Im no afraid of the outcome, I'm hopeful but need to be patient.

So a friend and co-worker of mine got some awful news today about her dog.

Her sweet dog needs surgery to get a cancerous tumor removed but she can't afford it. She made a gofundme campaign so if anyone can donate that would be amazing.

(I wish I could donate today but I have to wait until Friday when I get paid)

If you can't donate please feel free to spread the word because this dog is just the sweetest pup and she's so very loved by her family.

Guide to spotting donation scam accounts

I am aware there is multiple guides posted by other accounts but this one is my own based around my posts I’ve made over the months of running this blog. If you already know how to spot scams, then good! Someone else might not.

If you appreciate all the work I did to make this post accurate and easy to understand, feel free to share it and link it to anyone who might need info. If you want to show thanks in another way, I take pocket change by tips. My pinned post also has links to quick access posts that are about scams.

Not all blogs who ask for aid are scammers! Legitimate people do exist it’s just that scammers will take their information and use it as their own in order to get the money for themself. This post is most meant to be a through guide into finding these scam posts more easily at a glance.

So here is a guide to spotting donation scam accounts under a readmore as it is a long post.

Check how old the blog is by seeing if their archive is enabled. You can also guess this by scrolling the blog and seeing if the posts made are entirely random or seem to come from a certain trending tag. Also check the date of the reblogged post by turning on timestamps. Backdated posts are when a user reblogs a post then goes into post editor and tries to make their reblog look older then it actually is. A common mistake is the new date is even older then the post itself was made meaning the user has went and backdated the post to make their account look older than it is. If the archive is disabled, you may only find ~20 posts shared within seconds of the others.

If they sent you an ask to share their post, did it request you to answer privately? People who are requesting aid are generally wanting a public audience to share their post and would not generally tell someone to answer their ask privately unless their up to something suspicious. If your ask says to answer privately, try using tumblr search to see if it was sent to multiple users. An example of an ask is below.

It’s on this blog, please do check if you have a spare time and reblog/boost it. Im so sorry if I did bother you, just need some help. Please do send me a msg to reply or answer the ask privately, please 😭 🙏 🙏 🐈 “

These asks are known as scam asks, though most commonly sent by blogs that are using content stolen from a legitimate fundraiser for a pet that is needing veterinary care. They are sent to multiple users who have shared a popular or trending post and is sent regardless of it the user would share the post or not. As it stands so far, most accounts who send these asks are scams.

Another type of donation scam is when a user will save the medical photographs of someone’s fundraiser and repost them to say it’s theirs. These can be graphic hospital images stolen off Instagram/Facebook and used in a fabricated story claiming it’s the users grandparent or child of who needs help. Most often, though, there is multiple images used that may not match up with the story itself. Scammers may even fake a funeral fundraiser using a similar method of stolen content.

Above all, donation accounts also will steal Instagram photographs to impersonate people and give them made up names. There are cases where scammers have made fraudulent GoFundMe’s with stolen images and made up stories about sensitive topics in order to get money. It’s important to pay attention and see if the suspected scam account is answering questions about their situation or if their asks and messages are turned off. This is usually a sign they may not be legitimate and are avoiding any questions about their legitimacy.

You may also want to pay attention to the support links given that lead to methods of sending cast. If the local currency isn’t matching up with the given information, it may be sign of a scammer. The most common example is someone asking for $USD but the local currency would be something else and they don’t supply a currency conversion anywhere in their post or explain why it doesn’t match. However, this is just a common scam tactic.

In closing, there are other minor ways to spot donation scam accounts. Such as searching their username up in tumblr search or just asking them to send you more information that relates to their situation. Above all, one of the best things you can do is examine the askers blog closely and see if there’s anything suspicious and do your own research before asking around.

And remember, always report confirmed scam accounts for phishing like so:

Report -> Something else -> Illegal uses or Content -> Phishing
