@winterandwords tagged me to search for door, dead, deep and dark. Late reply (life got in the way and so did Baldur's Gate 3 :D )

These are from the year of the otp 2023 - to be published on ao3 in september. The worktitle is currently Boarding school.

Door

He followed the headmaster outside, where the cold icy wind took away his breath, and they walked across an open field, and as the pavement stopped, Aleksi was forced to carry his trolley, the wheels not rolling on the dirt, he stumbled and almost fell over his own feet. At the edge of the field, the vegetation changes from nice freshly cut grass to wilder and higher vegetation gradually changing to the beginning of a forest. How long had he been walking? At least five to ten minutes, he glanced over his shoulder and saw the main building in the far distance. The headmaster opened a rusting iron door to something that looked like an old industrial ruin, overgrown by plants, making it hard to see the building itself,tucked away, hidden out of sight.

Dead

If Joel’s eyes could have killed him he would be dead.

Deep

Aleksi sat there, crying, rocking himself back and forth to calm down. The feeling of failure, anger and sadness slowly ebbed away, replaced by a feeling of acceptance, hugging him like a blanket. His breathing calmed down, he wiped his tears. He was a failure, and they were right and he would be best off as a lone wolf. He was awkward enough for it.

Aleksi leaned his head against the tree, took a deep calming breath and scented the omega’s. “There’s no need in hiding, I can smell you guys.” Joel was the first to come out and immediately apologised: “Sorry, I didn’t mean to..” “You guys spoke your mind, your truth and yes, it hurts like hell. But you guys are not wrong.”

Dark

He followed the trail and stumbled upon an omega, tied up, spreaded out like a starfish, barely conscious. “Poor thing” Aleksi said softly as he tucked a string of long dark hair, covered with mud and dirt, behind the man’s ear. The man was skinny, you could count his ribs, there was not a single skin coloured inch left on his body, bruises, burning wounds, cuts. Aleksi didn’t need to sniff to smell dirt, mud , blood, pee and semen, amongst other things.

a song that reminds me of them: Indian Summer by Jai Wolf

what they smell like: All the mechanics on the team lowkey want to take a power washer to Zen and wax him--there are your typical omnic smells of metal and wires and 'hot laptop,' but Zen is kind of like a well-loved car at the end of a big crazy roadtrip--he's picked up a little of everywhere he's been. Shambali incense, layers of steam of different food market stalls and car exhaust in different cities, earthy smells of long treks across unpopulated areas, lots of little things have seeped into the nooks and crannies of his chassis--it's not a bad smell, it's one of those smells that feels like home despite going everywhere.

favorite platonic/familial relationships: Him and Satya!!! I love their friendship so much!!!

a headcanon that is popular in the fandom but that i disagree with: Every time someone humanizes Zenyatta they draw him as this utterly flawless baby-faced pristine supermodel twink, but if you look at him for 10 seconds it's clear he's COVERED in scratches and weathering. He's a TRAVELING MONK! If you're going to take one of the most interesting aspects of his character away (Being a robot) by making him a human, then at least respect his lifestyle and give him some sun and wind weathering. Also the fact that they make him look like a supermodel when--look, I know his robot looks have a lot of appeal, but also he's remarked that he was 'one of thousands'--Human!Zenyatta would be Just Some Guy with very chill vibes and you all know it.

the position they sleep in: He doesn't sleep, but he can go into a low-power mode when meditating.

a crossover au i’d love to see them in: Honestly I'd love to write Corrupted/Talon!Zenyatta sometime. Like, I know Ramattra is very well established as the Evil Shambali (TM) but I love the ~drama~ of Genji being forced to fight his master.

Dai shi scrambled through Jarrod's memories while possessing him and found the dairanger ones and while meaningless to the being he made an oc of sorts when he found a liking to Shadam(the oc being Long) and he was going to use the form in the final battle but was killed before then.

I am InuKag OTP. I think that the dog boy and the girl from the future complement each other so well, and really do want the best for each other. I love them. Always have always will.

I am a Kikyō stan. She got a shit time in her life due to the expectations that were foisted on her, and couldn’t even die in peace before selfish asses resurrected her and she had to be face to face with the “chance at a normal life” man who she thought betrayed her. That would make anyone angry. And by the end, she was awesome! (I ship her with happiness, but mostly Suikotsu... though the SessKik crew really got me thinking about that too.)

Kōga got the short end of the stick. Like why RT? Why? You think that wolf is so meek that he would give up his quest for revenge because the magic jewels were no longer in his legs? Nope, he would be right there too.

Kagura’s death man. Kagura’s death. I have rejected canon reality and substituted my own. Sess has a magic sword. He will find a way to resurrect the wind sorceress who stole my heart (and... his.) I am giving them the twins and making Kagura a hanyō, because it makes sense with the story.

Rin and Kohaku are a really awesome pair. He’s been broken so hard by a life where he was forced to kill his family and work for their killer. He had enough resilience to face it. And she is a sunshine girl who heals hearts. She would heal his.

Yes, SessKagu and KohRin are my preferred ships now. Because HNY came out and suddenly there was no responsible way to ship the other way. HNY to me is bad fanfic that tries to go for fan service by hamfisting in FaMiLy. I tried watching it. I failed. I don’t want to talk about it anymore. (But I will be adopting some of the characters into my Neutron InuVerse, because they’re cute:Moroha, or hot:Kirinmaru, or cool:Towa&Setsuna.)

Naraku was really hot until he got all tentacley... but ultimately also a really boring villain.

Mukotsu is the only character in the entire series that deserves to die by being smothered in molten (but somehow still really sharp) Legos.

Multishipping is really fun, and Inuyasha has enough incredible and deep characters that its like a creative writer’s playground. I will forever be thankful to RT for that.

1. do I like them?

yes absolutely i do! he's a nice little firecracker-addition to a group of otherwise fairly stoic characters and i love what he brings to the table. :]

2. five good qualities!

he's got a heart of gold! shows just as much care for Wolfie, without knowing who he really was, as he would the rest of the group - with no hesitation. he's observant (still OBSESSED with the panel of him saving Time at the very start of shifting shadows pt.1)! he's also a great team player; unsurprising! he's one of the heroes who is somewhat familiar with teams of people. and he's confident (as he should be!!), and he's really good-natured with his humour. <3

3. three bad qualities!

(you can have two because the brain is tired) he's perhaps a little too keen to prove himself capable; i'm glad he stepped forward with his opinion (as he should have), but that shouldn't stop him accepting help when he needs it! he's also a little unwilling to hear criticism about anything he cares about (even if the critique isn't of him. i.e, his argument with Wild about the kings of hyrule).

4. favourite episode?

TIMELINE TALK! god it was great that Wind finally got the chance to ask Time about the timeline placement and get answers from him about his disappearance! he was so open and willing to listen rather than just say his piece. <3

i don't have one cause he's still very young!

8. Who tends to worry the most?

I was going to answer this with 'both equally', but the more I think, the more I realize that Solas is the one who worries the most. XD

I mean, come on. We all know Solas is a natural worry wart. It's in the man's blood, and Fane has a tendency to make his dear wolf's blood pressure rise to fatal heights with the shit he does. PFFT!

Fane is a literal battering ram when it comes to battles (this is based on how I've specced him in-game), and he just charges in without caring if he'll get sliced, diced, or scorched. Fane's illness with magic makes it incredibly difficult for Solas to erect barriers on him, so he has to devise other ways to keep Fane in one piece (nitpicking about his armor, constantly asking, 'Are you certain you are ready?', and begging, 'Please control yourself this time, ma'isenatha.') All of that worry comes from the fact that Solas has seen Fane die, has had to guide him to it, even. Fane doesn't mean to brush off that concern and worry, but when he's embroiled in battle he...loses his senses a bit. Dragons aren't meant to fight, and fighting is what Fane does best in his new life, so he has a hard time balancing bloodlust with merciful restraint.

If Fane gets injured (which he does, but only grazes and the occasional gash), Solas won't let anyone else attend to him, fear gripping his mind, memories of blood soaked crystal and decaying scales cracking his mask and rendering him tortured. When Fane sees that, instead of just seeing the nagging, he'll go docile, go remorseful and will say, 'I'm sorry, my sky. I never meant to-- I only--hn.' Once they talk and wind down though, things get right back on track, but Solas is constantly worrying over his dragon--constantly.

Solas worries about everything with Fane--his scars, his nightmares, his battle with his identity--but battle is where he's the least reserved in it. He doesn't want Fane to have to fight, but he knows they both don't have a choice in the matter.

13. Who steals the blankets?

Solas. SOLAS.

Well, it's more that Fane gives the blankets to Solas. XD Due to the fact that Fane's affinity as a dragon was ice, he has a very low tolerance to heat. So, furs and even thin silken sheets can be a bit too much for our resident dragon to handle. Hell, Fane walks around the outer perimeter of Skyhold (trails along the mountains and whatnot) in nothing but a fur-lined cloak, his typical trousers, and his black tunic. My boy gives no fucks about the cold.

Fane and Solas' quarters in Skyhold stay a nice in-between temperature, catering to both their needs comfortably. Magic is a lovely thing, and there are certain minor spells that Fane can bear without throwing up all over the place.

...Fane does whine when the fire is a bit too stoked though. That's when the balcony windows get torn open by a deadpan Solas, who then regrets his decision like so many other things. *cackles* Fane just shrugs and gives his wolf that shit-eating smirk of his that says, 'That all you've got, Dread Wolf? Tsk. Shame.'

80. What do they love about each other the most?

Solas is enthralled by Fane's sheer tenacity. Even before the two of them realized who the other was, Solas found Fane's attitude admirable. He had a feeling that Fane was troubled, could see it during specific intervals, but he also saw the will to endure in emerald and gold. Despite the snaps, the snarls, and the moments of disassociation, Solas could see just how strong of spirit Fane was--making decisions without a single regret (on the outside, of course), standing firm to what he believed in, never bowing to those who wished to break him in half with their hopes and expectations, witnessing those moments of vulnerability when Fane's illness with magic became too much, but the other powering through it despite the pain, despite the hardship, and between it all, how much he cared about every. single. person he came across. The downtrodden and forgotten. The traumatized and bereft.

Solas adores Fane's tenacity, and most importantly, his devotion. The latter comes later when they form a romantic relationship, but Solas has always seen both traits in his dragon. And he'll do anything to make sure those shining spirits never becomes warped again.

Now, it may seem predictable, but Fane thrives off of Solas' brain. X'D Fane is a creature of observation, he picks and delves to determine why things work the way they do, or technically speaking, why people act the way that they do. As such, he's always stunned or enraptured when Solas becomes especially passionate about a topic (spirits, the Fade, the Elvhen, his beliefs, his opinions, etc.) Solas' questioning and curious nature is what made Fane open up as a dragon, had him seeing that there was someone not so black and white. So, even if it's sometimes at his expense, Fane lets Solas talk and talk and talk and talk until the candles are burnt down and the moon's high in the sky, never once letting his mind wander and spiral because he'd be a fool to ignore such a beautiful sight as his sky.

82. What is an inside joke they have?

Okay, okay! I may have mentioned this before, but Fane and Solas, on occasion, like to point out the sheer irony of Fane being the 'Herald of Andraste'.

What I mean by that is; he's a dragon. History tiiiime! >:D

Fane is a dragon. Fane is also the Herald of Andraste. The Tevinter Imperium used to worship the Old Gods which the Chantry says are false gods and the only true one is the Maker.

So, where does that leave us? Fane is a dragon being worshiped by most of Thedas as a literal figure of divinity. He's the very thing the Chantry claims is 'wicked' and 'heretical'. Furthermore, Fane does have the capacity to harbor a portion of an Old God's soul. *holds out hands* EH? EHHHH?!

"They worship me as a god, more or less, right?"

"If one where to delve deeply into the matter, then perhaps. I believe most of the beleagured and drifting see you as a symbol of hope, ma'isenatha."

"...They literally call me the prophet of their prophetess. They think I'm divinely touched."

"Technically, you are correct. But--oh."

"Yeah. Fucking hilarious. Looks like the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. Let's hope the scum in Tevinter don't catch wind. It would be humiliating for the Chantry to know the people flock to a dragon."

"...You are ridiculous."

"But you're laughing, so I know you see the irony, my sky." *chuckles* "Ohh, my day just got ten times better with that realization. Imagine Cassandra's face! Hah!"

"You are far too riveted by this, my dragon. ...Though I admit, it is rather amusing."

"See?" *snickers* "Herald of Andraste. Pfft. I'm a fucking dragon."

Dialogue drabble that I may flesh out and form into a snippet of pure ridiculousness! But that's the joke between Solas and Fane, and when Cassandra's catches Fane nearly exploding with the force of holding his snorts back...well, let's just say she's very confused. *cackles*

Why is your Heather/Claudia ship name "The Wolf and the Wren"?

Well it's pretty uncomplicated haha, in my bullshit animal symbolism shtick, both of them are represented by those animals. (Heather's bird in the Crematorium Puzzle is the wren, and Claudia's last name is Wolf). Claudia's relationship to wolfiness is a thing that I ideally would be detailing in my typical longwinded fic fashion, but since all of it is just stuck in my head for the moment, I'll try to explain a little.

Unlike the other dumb character aesthetic tags I use which are all the Linnaean Taxonomic names for real animals, hers is an imaginary mashup of 'deer' and 'wolf' (currently it's "canis dama", although I kind of like "cervus lupus" better so I might change it at some point idk) to represent the kind of dichotomy she's got going on as a character who genuinely desires peace and healing but winds up resorting to extreme ruthlessness and cruelty to pursue her goals.

I imagine her dad (the OG Wolf, so to speak) frequently criticized her for being so gentle, given that while she's really no less fanatical than he is, her belief that salvation and love should exist for everyone starkly opposes Leonard's entire thing, which is basically "Everyone goes to Mega Turbo Hell except for hardcore believers (me)".

So Claudia's progression from being a youth horrified by the state of the world and wracked with frustration and despair at not knowing how to save it, to someone who is willing to do the unthinkable in order to do so (and knowingly damning herself in the process) can be represented metaphorically as the transformation from acting as a deer to acting as a wolf, with all the philosophical complexities that implies.

Or, you know, I'm a pretentious weirdo.

ANYWAY THAT'S WHY THE OTP TAG IS NAMED THAT.

(Also, DISCLAIMER SINCE THIS IS TUMBLR: I don't "”ship”” Heather and Claudia in the way that Tumblr seems to use the word. I frankly don't really HAVE any Silent Hill ships outside of the stuff that’s established in canon, and I think we can all agree that canon Heather/Claudia as A Couple In The Traditional Sense  would be Very Weird And Bad For A NUMBER Of Reasons that I doubt I need to go into. I just think their relationship as a whole is compelling and heartbreaking, going from two abused children whose only solace was each other, to... what they are in the game. There's still love there, underneath the pain and grief and anger, and just, god dammit, they deserved a world where they could reconnect in a way that didn't involve being on opposing sides of an apocalypse and deliberately inflicting pain on each other. Whether it’s interpreted as platonic or romantic (insomuch as children can innocently experience those kinds of feelings and think back on as adults), their love for one another was all they had and then it was ripped away from them. IT’S ABOUT THE YEARNING, YALL.)

Fictional Character Ask: The Grandma from Little Red Riding Hood?

Favorite thing about them: She’s a kind, loving grandmother who reminds me of my own Grandma Marilynn.

Least favorite thing about them: She’s obviously a bit of a flat character, who does nothing except be eaten and then rescued.

This isn’t true in all variations of the story, though. In the oft-forgotten postscript of the Grimms' version, when another wolf tries to hide on the roof of her house, she's clever enough to have Little Red put water she had used to boil sausages in her watering trough, and the smell lures the wolf to the edge of the roof, where he falls into the trough and drowns. Another variant I especially like is Andrew Lang’s Little Golden-Hood from The Red Fairy Book, where she’s a good witch who made her granddaughter’s cape out of a sunbeam. When the Wolf tries to eat the girl, the golden cape burns his mouth and he runs off howling in pain, and then the Grandmother (who was never eaten in this version, she just wasn’t home when the Wolf arrived) catches him in a big sack, throws him into the well and drowns him.

Three things I have in common with them:

Favorite line: From the Faerie Tale Theatre version, her feisty response to the Wolf’s intrusion:

And from Andrew Lang’s Little Golden-Hood, after she does away with the Wolf:

“Ah, scoundrel! you thought you would crunch my little grandchild! Well, to-morrow we will make her a muff of your skin, and you yourself shall be crunched, for we will give your carcass to the dogs.”

OTP: Her presumably deceased husband, and possibly the hunter who saves her, if he’s close to her age as he is in Trina Schart Hyman’s illustrations.

Random headcanon: After fully recovering from the ordeal with the wolf and from her sickness, she lives to be over 100 years old and dotes as much on Little Red’s own children as on Little Red herself.

Unpopular opinion: This isn’t universally unpopular, but... I don’t think the story needs to be bowdlerized for little kids so that the Wolf only locks her in a closet instead of swallowing her. When I was little, I was never scared by the idea of being swallowed whole, just as long as the characters it happened to were rescued or rescued themselves in the end.
