Task 2: Research animation process
2.5D Animation
2.5D animation uses a combination of 2D and 3D animation. This includes having 3D objects in a 2D space (or 2D objects in a 3D space) or using 3D models and programmes to simulate 2D animation. An example of this is "Puss In Boots: The Last Wish " (2023 by DreamWorks). I really like how this style of animation is used in this movie as it looks a lot more energetic compared to 2011 "Puss in Boots" movie. While the style of animation has been simplified, I think the action lines on top of the 3D animation and the reduced frame rate for action scenes makes it pop.
Traditional Animation
Traditional animation consists of drawing each frame by hand and transferred onto plastic sheets (cells). An example of this style of animation is the 2001 Studio Ghibli movie "Spirited Away". I've always liked the Ghibli movie style for it's rich backgrounds and expressive characters.
Painting on Glass
Using slow drying paints, each frame of the animation is painted, photographed and put together to make an animation. An example of this is "The Bird and the Whale" (2020 by Paper Panther). This animation style is very fluid and soft.
