someone who clearly wasn’t relevant enough to be remembered once told you that people’s memories weren’t perfect: they had a tendency to remember the beginning and the end more clearly, which is why they had ushered you to speak about the important things that had to be said first.

you liked to think that this did not simply apply to mundane things such as speeches, but to everything in life. for example, you weren’t exactly sure how you and toge became friends. you remembered how you met, how you grew appart and some memorable moments in between. you remembered how and when you fell in love with him and how all of a sudden the falling didn’t seem like a good thing, but the feeling of being in love is absent. it gnaws at your chest, the ignorance, knowing that it was there and now it isn’t.

he made it easy to fall in love, with those dimple cheeky smiles and the way he held your hand. fragile, as if he was scared of you running away, but strong enough to let you know he didn’t want you to leave. you liked to remember how he would break whatever snack he would buy in two and give you the bigger part and not how he looked at you with pity that one night.

toge wasn’t easy to understand in the slightest though. you had to learn how to decipher the hums and the fish ingredients or even the bobbing of his head. somehow, coherent sentences and actual words were never needed to feel like you belonged with him.

becoming friends wasn’t hard either, it just took a simple sentence followed by some heartwarming laughter and you found yourself with what you used to think was a friend for life. the first time you arrived to tokyo jujutsu tech, your teacher introduced you to your classmates. they were all odd, but so were you. you guessed that was a mandatory criteria to be a sorcerer. however, when panda’s turn came for introductions, you asked him a question you had meant to keep for yourself. "do you pee in like, a litter box ? like those people on tiktok who’re convinced they’re furries ?"

gojo had pressed his lips in a thin line, most likely trying to not let giggles slip his lips, while toge had full on bursted laughing. you stood there, dumbfounded at the words you had accidentally spoken with a hand covering your mouth in utter shock. your cheeks burned red with embrassement, and from that day on, toge had decided you and him were friends.

it feels melancholic to think about it now, sometimes you even regret spending too much time on tiktok. maybe if you didn’t, you would’ve never spoken. you knew that even if you hadn’t, you and him would’ve ended up friends anyways. but maybe, just maybe, it could have delayed the inevitable, the whole butterfly in your stomach process.

maybe your mind made some of the memories up, like the ones were you thought he was giving you signs. the ones where his eyes would lit up when you talked, the ones where his cheeks would slightly tint red when he grabbed your hand. dwelling on the past in useless, but the reminiscence comforts you when he’s not there anymore to do it himself.

the falling happened when you logged into his netflix account for the weekly movie night tradition the two of you shared, and you found all of your favourite shows you had recommended him in his recently watched. or maybe it was when you came back to the dorms after an especially long mission and found a container of your favourite food in the fridge with your name on it, because you had skipped dinner. scratch that, it was probably when you pulled numerous pranks on yuta (soy sauce in his drink, glitter in his shampoo, a fake spider on his pillow for when he wakes up, you name it) and he took all the blame even though everyone knew it was both of your doings. love is an abstract thing, it’s quite hard to place a hand on when and how it happened, but you know it did. sometime between the shit jokes and the deep one sided conversations, it did.

you were watching the grinch when you said something you shouldn’t have. that seems to happen to you a lot, much to your misery. it wasn’t the most romantic thing, no, not even the most romantic confession, far from it. being spontaneous was always your forte, and cliche and cute stuff is apparently one of the many things you can add to the list of stuff you’re incapable of doing. toge was always the opposite though, with kindness and care always pooling from those violet eyes of his. definitely one of the reasons you loved him. that’s why, in the middle of a boring scene where the grinch was probably being grumpy, you blurted out an "i think i like you". it was stupid, because you didn’t think that. you knew it, you were sure of it, it wasn’t even a wandering thought anymore, it was constantly etched into your brain. maybe you thought it was minimalise the fall, to word it that way.

toge smiled, with such an easy toge like smile, and he ruffled his platinum hair. "okaka." he had said, and it took a few moments of eye blinking with your mouth agape to understand that he meant 'that’s not true.'

"i’m serious though. i'm ninety nine percent sure of it."

and then he had stopped grinning, and the movie was paused, and the world was spinning and why didn’t you tell him ‘yeah, i’m just messing with you, i don’t mean it.’

you felt the rejection coming before he even opened his mouth to say anything. it’s a pity to think the first time you heard his voice to speak an other word than rice ball ingredients was when he squeezed your hand for a millisecond before letting go and mumbling a "i’m sorry."

it was muffled, you wouldn’t have heard it if the room wasn’t coated with an awkward silence. but it was, and you could feel your heart drop the same way you had fell for him. quickly, and unpredictably. he didn’t even look at you, depriving you of the view that was of his pretty purple eyes. you left after that, because who cares about the grinch ? you’d already watched it over a thousand times.

it was a pathetic move, to leave like that. but again, what is a broken hearted teenager supposed to do when the only thing they’ve ever known is to run away ? maybe that’s why you transferred to Kyoto for your second year.

you think of him sometimes, as you lay in bed with your hands crossed beneath your head. you think about the seals on his cheeks and the furry side of tiktok. you think about the grinch and the bigger half of chocolate chip cookies. always half, never full, like your half filled heart. you think about how his voice sounded because your memory isn’t perfect- the slips and cracks in his words are starting to be forgotten as you stare at your phone, waiting for a call. a text. anything. everything. glitter in your shampoo or a movie recommendation ask. even an amazon link to a litter box for panda, because he loved to joke about that.

sadly, nothing ever comes, and that’s when you start to realise that maybe falling isn’t such a good thing when you’ve been expectantly waiting for him to catch you, knowing he never will. you used to hope that maybe, you wouldn’t have to remember how you stopped being friends because that day wouldn’t come. you curse the gods above for the way your brain functions. it’s always someone else’s fault, never yours. what a selfish, selfish thought. you wish you would at least be able to remember every single nook and crannies of his face. or what it felt like to be in love.

but you can’t. you can only reminisce the beginning and the way you ended it all.

Oh the way those PANS/PANDAS parents talk about their children’s illness get my hackles fucking raised. It’s like every “autism mom” I’ve ever heard talk. I’m not even writing off the idea that there may be cases in which an infection leads to an autoimmune response that causes neurological mental health changes in children. I can totally conceive of that being a thing we don’t totally understand yet. But the way these people approach it…. God. I know it’s got to be terrifying for parents if their kid suddenly develops OCD, ED, and/or tourette’s symptoms, but the scientific data is so severely lacking, and the language these parents use to talk about those experiences is. Very specific.

The proposed biological indicators for PANS are often present in people without the disorder, without any of the related symptoms. The current proposed diagnostic criteria is extremely generalized and doesn’t very rigorously provide ways to rule out differential diagnoses.

The proposed treatments of long term antibiotics and steroid usage can have dangerous side effects and extreme consequences.

But there are thousands of parents online who will insist it’s 100% real, it’s an epidemic, and they’ll use their numbers to attack anyone online who disagrees with them. Some of these kids may have symptoms that did genuinely arise because of an autoimmune response linked to infection. I wouldn’t write it off. Further scientific study is clearly needed. But it’s also just as likely to me that there are parents out there that just refuse to accept that their kid could be mentally ill for no single curable reason.

I say this as someone who, themselves, developed severe mental illness as a very young child. It’s possible your kid just does have trauma, just does have ocd, just does have depression, just does have tourettes. But these parents see their kids “suddenly” present symptoms and insist on correlating it with extremely common childhood infections. And then manage to find some medical professional somewhere who will actually agree to put their kid on long term antibiotics, and insist their kid’s mental illness just totally went away afterward!

And like. Sorry. But there’s no way for me to hear that and not be reminded of the parents who think red dye makes ADHD worse. Or the parents who think their children’s autism is caused by intestinal parasites, and insist that since they started making their kid drink a bleach solution they bought online their autism has “improved.” The science is inconclusive, everywhere you look there’s confirmation bias, and also.

Every time I hear parents talk about this, not one of them mentions how their child felt about their experience. It’s always “they developed all these tics and compulsions, they wouldn’t eat, they were paranoid, they became suicidal, it was SO scary and hard for me!” and it’s like. As someone who was once a very mentally ill child. Why do every single one of you fail to address this. They seem more concerned about how “scary” it is and how “different” their child has become than their child’s own internal experience of suffering.

#also the idea that autoimmune response -> causes neurological symptoms #and then said symptoms just…. go away after ‘treatment’ #sorry. what. #some symptom secession makes sense. #bc of the immune issue has been resolved then so has any inflammation #but here’s the thing about how those conditions work: #if the damage is that extensive that it is causing sudden onset of extreme symptoms #then PERMANENT damage has been done. it is not just going to go away. #the symptoms may get better with treatment yes. but the breadth of new neurological issues are not just going to spontaneously resolve #I mean we see this w sydenham’s chorea. which is literally an example of this proposed mechanism happening #also sorry but when I developed severe depression at age 8 yeah it WAS scary. for ME #Christ. I cannot imagine if my parents had started insisting my new obsessive compulsive symptoms and lethargy and sadness was bc I’d had #fucking strep throat a few weeks before #child abuse mention tw

I'm not sure if I even want to go down this rabbit hole as I've already reeled from the absurdity of it and would like to keep my remaining brain cells...

But...I want to share this because it entered my mind again after seeing thumbnails of the new Kung Fu Panda movie being bad or a disappointment.

I haven't seen the movie myself, but I do want to see it to come to my own conclusion.

Art is subjective. But it a painting, a drawing, a sculpture, a dance/performance, a movie, a book, or a show. Some people would like a certain piece of art that others despise. And that's fine.

That being said, to say that (lets say) a movie was the worst of its kind...that's a bold statement to make to me. Because, to me, what makes a bad movie/show can sum in certain criteria and usually its the story and characters. (acting quality is also a factor, plus animation if its animated)

I can handle bad animation if its animated to a degree, but its the story and characters. Have there been mediocre storylines in a movie I've seen. Oh, totally. But they weren't the worst.

In terms of ranking animated movies and animated shows as bad shows...I have a new bar for if they are bad. And I have yet to watch such a movie/show to reach this bar or surpassed it.

Do they know what a child is? 4/4 Omniverse

The criteria I’m using has three major factors 1) would this race understand what a child is 2) do they raise children or are they born self reliant not needing parents and 3) would they understand developmental cycles of childhood like understanding that Ben is child at 10 and 15 and understand a kid and teen are different that still means a child not an adult. Sometimes I have canon support, sometimes it’s just vibes, sometimes canon contradicts itself so I pick and choose. I have been made unhinged you cannot stop me <3

Going in order:

Kickin Hawk apparently doesn’t have an official alien race. That’s…..fun. Oh well! I believe that they understand what a child is and also experiences their own long term developmental cycle. I believe they are largely dependent on their parents for protection and raise their young and mid-large family groups with a complex social structure.

Incursean (Bullfrag) we know they have a complex social structure and raise their young. They are frog inspired but unlike Galvans I believe they are live birthed and are never actually tadpoles, but they might CALL their children tadpoles. But I believe they have a short-mid length childhood and born slightly self reliant. I believe they raise their young like a boot camp and they’re raised isolated from other alien races until old enough to join the Incursean armada.

Conductoids (Feedback) I believe are born to one or both parents who raise and protect their young an part ways after a short childhood. But do not change outside of aging and growing. They are a common spacefaring race and I believe they love wandering around and experiencing life. I believe they are one of the few races that Anodites get along with. I believe they are very good at adapting to new cultures and are often sought out for a wide variety of jobs. I believe their home world is either a near constant lightning storm or born from the fall out of another race experimenting with electrical grids and are “lighting brought to life”.

Atrocians (The Worst) they are the Panda/Sunfish/Tardigrade of the alien social sphere. Indestructible, not worth eating, and extremely bad at procreating. They’re smart enough to understand the idea of a child but are completely disinterested in them. If one manages to make a child it would leave it behind and technically born self reliant. If you can call them that.

Mole-Stache apparently have no species name or official home world :\ I feel they live in rocky terrain and dig tunnels to protect their young. Born defenseless they are reliant on their parents and their small communities with complex social structure.They do go through a short development cycle and not usually able to understand other races and their cycles if it doesn’t resemble theirs. Usually a private race that rarely becomes spacefaring.

Galileans (Gravattack /Gutrot) I believe are both Galileans or at least from the same home world as Gutrot has no species or home world. I believe they are self reliant and intelligent enough to understand what a child is in theory. I am not convinced they are born but if Taydenite is the “rarest living gem” then there is absolutely more so apply that concept here. They’re grown from a living gem or rock that is complex enough to create sustain sentient life

Astrodactyl I believe is born self reliant. I put them here because they vibe as THINKING they understand what a child is and would be smug about it while not at all understanding what a child is. I think they ironically have long and complex development cycles but cannot fully understand other aliens outside their own experiences. I believe they are commonly spacefaring and good at adapting to other worlds but not other alien cultures.

Toepick has no official alien race but I think they are Tulpa’s that are attempting to integrate in the intergalactic social sphere after being lonely for so long. I do not believe in this case that they have any single one home world and believe they are magically conceived from the raw psychic power of fear wherever sentient life exists. I believe they created their suits from scrap to attempt to protect anyone from looking at them and experience their worst fear. They are born self reliant and not sociable enough to understand what a child is. 

Nemuina (Pesky Dust) I believe are born magically where ever the edges of  places like Anodine or Ledgerdomain touch space that doesn’t naturally produce mana. I believe these “edge worlds” create “sleeping domains” that are viewed as odd or trippy to outsiders and dangerous if you’re not born there due to outsiders falling asleep and never waking up. I believe Nemuina sprout from pods or flowers that they wear forever as their dress. I believe they are genderless and don’t have instinct to procreate but could in theory but never have. Rarely spacefaring and usually only do so if curious. 

Orthopterran (Crashhopper) born completely self reliant. Some mothers might watch over the hidden eggs but immediately leaves once they start hatching viewing them a safe enough. Commonly spacefaring.

Segmentasapiens (Bloxx) I love this stupid stupid guy but this???? IDC what anyone says it’s an artificially created life. It wasn’t meant to be living and breathing and it isn’t but as a limited species it absolutely is alive. It was intended to protect and serve in crisis like natural disasters or invasions and gained sentience as they became more complicated.

Ball Weevil is born self reliant and could never understand what a child is. Head empty ball is life. Not a spacefaring race outside of being taken as a pet or trophy as most aliens don’t view them as sentient. 

Icthyperambuloid (Walkatrout) lays eggs in water watches them for a bit or hides them then leaves. Born self reliant. Not a spacefaring race.

Vladat (Whampire) look I’m not a fan of any of the Halloween aliens outside of Lobans, but you can’t look me in the eyes and convince me they would care about their kids or any other kind of child. They absolutely understand what children are and do not care an ounce for them.

Atomix I feel is an extraordinarily rare Galilean and I believe they are also extraordinarily emotionally detached. I feel they understand what a child is and does not care for them either way.

Hi! I’m gayandloveableperidot. You can call me any nicknames related to my username, Jamie, or Jam.

I am a minor. I don’t care if adults interact with me just don’t be a creep

They/them pronouns and androgynous terms preferred heavily.

I am disabled (likely hEDS, need to be tested, current diagnosis is g-HSD) and chronically ill (asthma) with chronic pain from my disability. I also have tics and some other symptoms from PANDAS that never cleared up for whatever reason.

I’m very highly suspected autism (the only reason I’m not diagnosed is my parents think diagnosis is useless). I have been researching to become as confident as possible for years, using medical criteria. Parents, friends, and my therapist all agree I am on the spectrum.

I say this because I talk about autism and often use terms relating to autism - this is my little “I’m not properly diagnosed and I use these terms because they are the best way I have to describe my experiences” disclaimer.

I mainly talk about my special interests/hyperfixations, complain about being disabled/mentally ill/neurodivergent, and occasionally mention the Seattle area (usually for weather or rain reasons)

I wish to collect mutuals like I do comics, monster tabs, stickers, and pins

Making a DNI list is difficult because there’s a lot of people I’d rather not talk to, but generally DNI:

-racist, homophobic, transphobic, sexist, xenophobic, Islamophobic, ableist, or some other flavor of bigoted asshole

-radqueers/transids
