I was wondering how accurate this was so I did some fun googling and yall.

So starting with the fact that police in the USA were formed when Dems had Congress and Senate and the same was true when the first organized police department was founded (in Boston, btw)....

1963. Dems had Senate and Congress.

While this allowed for huge strides in civil rights police brutality still continued to be largely unaddressed.

1966. Dems had Senate and Congress.

To point out further racial oppression James Meredith starts a 270 mile walk from Memphis, TN to Jackson, MI. He's shot by a sniper the second day which causes an influx in support from allies & prominent civil rights members (such as MLK) who fly out and walk in his stead.

Governor Johnson (d) of Mississippi, who ran on a segregationist platform but changed platforms when he saw that Black people were gaining more supporters, promises to protect marchers as they pass through his state. Police then tear gas them as they were setting up tents for the night in Canton, MI (pictured). 15k show up to Jackson. It's the biggest march in MI history and more successful than Meredith had planned.

No bills were introduced that year.

1956-1979 Dems had senate & Congress.

In 1961-69 they even had a governmental trifecta with Congress, Senate, and the presidency and again in 1977-79. The director of the FBI at the time was Republican J. Edgar Hoover. Head of Intelligence was Democrat William Sullivan. Attorney General & democrat Robert F. Kennedy authorized several programs for them such as wire-tapping MLK.

1968. Dems had Senate, Congress, and presidency.

President Lyndon Johnson (Democrat president while Dems had Congress & Senate) signs the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968, birthing the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration & granting federal funds to local governments in order to obtain military resources to quell potential riots. A direct response to the protests and riots throughout the 50's & 60's. Protecting police from protesters.

Democrats do this instead of protecting the public from police and their prejudice.

1992. Dems have both Senate and Congress.

After the verdict of the 4 police who beat Rodney King on camera is announced & they are Not indicted the public starts rioting. The national guard, fire department, and several police departments are called in by then democratic mayor Tom Brady. After the riots a separate federal trial is held and finds 2 of the 4 officers guilty. All were fired from LAPD.

The Police Brutality Accountability Act of 1991 is introduced. Only introduced.

1994. House & Senate under dem control.

They pass the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act instead. It's drafted by democrat Joe Biden and sponsored by Texas Rep Brooks (D). It's an infamously harmful bill that results in the prejudiced mass incarceration of minorities, especially Black people. This bill funded police departments instead of holding them accountable aiding their further militarization as well.

2020. Dems have both Congress & Senate.

Which brings us to recent times. Where Democrats have again pretended to support and listen to the public demands to decrease/eliminate police brutality only to turn around and insist protests are the reason they keep funding the police instead of giving us rights.

"See? You're too dangerous to Not have a militarized police force."

As if we aren't protesting because the police are already too dangerous. Like that's not what started all this.

At this point a pattern like this can only be seen as intentional. A planned out excuse for funding police again and again and again instead of Stopping police brutality. Instead of enforcing or creating ACTUAL effective reform or regulations. They just keep throwing money at police departments and saying "hey here are billions of dollars that we want you to use to be less violent racists. It's also to help you be more safe when facing the people who are protesting your racist violence. Also we aren't gonna make sure you actually become less violent or less racist but we definitely hope you don't use this all this money to get worse."

Which has backfired across decades at this point. They keep doing investigations and making committees and for what?

We've done that. We know police are racist. We know they're violent. We know they're only spending enough to say they provide 6 months (if that) of sensitivity training and spending the bulk of that money on militarization gear. So what. We know that.

Now what.

What, after 100+ years could their excuse possibly be for STILL doing the same thing. For STILL not addressing it. For STILL not passing reform despite the MANY opportunities they've had? What could police departments Possibly be doing for them?? What excuse could be good enough?

I'm glad you asked.

There isn't one. There are answers of course. Greed, power, privilege, etc. The list goes on.

But are they good enough for you? They're not for me.

I have to beg on Tumblr just for my rent to get paid or for my kid to have dinner sometimes. The success of Democrats or my "country" doesn't mean shit to me, it does nothing for me. It only does things to me. Success enables police, it increases funding, it makes them More afraid of having their ideas of success taken from them, makes them more protective of their status quo. Their success hurts me. Fuck their success.

What matters is that time and time again Democrats have insisted they'd be there for minorities and then empowered the people oppressing, killing, and suppressing us and our rights.

What matters is that time and time again they've said they're powerless and their supporters insist they just don't have a majority to do anything with or that republicans keep blocking them or-

But passing bills to harm us? That's easy. And they don't Have to keep doing that. They just keep saying they do... To protect police. And they only keep "needing" more protection for police because they refuse to give us any. We continue to express our right to protest and they continue to try intimidating us out of it.

All the rights we have? They didn't give to us. Look at those posts. We fought for them while Democrats were in charge. They didn't give us those, they didn't stand with us. They still don't. They stand with the police as they always have.

August 2022.

For hundreds of years we've dealt with this. How much longer is it gonna be. How many more generations are going to have to put up with this government trying to insist that mediocrity is the best they can do indefinitely?

And if you still refuse to hold Democrats responsible, if you still find yourself compulsively trying to point out all the ways that Republicans are worse please know this: I know.

I know you're going to say "well Democrats are our best shot"

And to that I say if this is our best fucking shot....and they're *gestures vaguely at the post* like that.... Can we agree that it points to a much wider issue. If Democrats are our best shot and they're Only this effective and they're only making the most Minimal effort possible year after year. If we Know that their hands are tied by Republicans at best and at worst theyre fascists benefitting from the exploitation of BIPOC and other marginalized communities....

Can we admit that our systems are broken. That it goes further than Republicans or Democrats being bad. That it's Everything? That even if Democrats were actually perfect that everything would still be wrong and fucked up because the system itself holds them from making any effectual change?

That the checks and balances that the founding fathers put in place to make sure that our politicians are fair and just and give a shit about the people they serve aren't working.

Because if they were why would it take HUNDREDS of years for a community to get one thing. Just stop police brutality. That's all we asked. That's it. Stop hurting everyone who isn't a white cis man. Stop killing us in broad daylight for demanding you give us rights and respect the ones we Already have.

So why are we still starting 2023 with brutality making headlines?

If a government is effective and cares and listens and it's representives Truly represent it's constituents and fight for them and it's not just about profit or greed or winning elections or keeping minorities in line then why are we still here?

Why are we still asking for the same rights as our great-great-great-great grandparents?

If that progress? Is that success?

What the fuck are we doing. Like actually. How do we throw a wrench in this system. What will it take for Democrats and liberals and You to realize that all we are doing is driving the future into the hands of fascism.

What do we do? When do we finally do something?

i’ve seen some people say that ashley is kind of an extreme portrayal of mental illness(es), but, from my own experience…. she’s actually a very real portrayal. all of her possessiveness, her mood swings, her dependency on andrew, her choice to not think too long about super traumatizing shit, her impulsiveness; all of those are very normal, very accurate ways mental illnesses and other disorders manifest

(andrew also shows Many signs of mental illness(es) and disorders, and so does their mom, but that’s not what this post is about!!)

i’m not going to try to diagnose her or anything, and i’ll try to keep my headcanons to myself, but i believe we can all tell that the way she thinks and acts is not exactly healthy for her or the people around her. she’s harmful to herself, andrew, and a lot of others. there’s genuinely So Much that has influenced the way she is, i kind of don’t even know where to start

she wasn’t “born evil,” like her mom says. she isn’t even “evil,” she just… doesn’t really understand. that’s not a bad thing!! she doesn’t understand what’s wrong with her behavior, because no adult ever taught her. no adult ever cared enough to make sure she learned how to treat people nicely. no adult ever paid attention to her harmful behavior and tried to correct it. we see that ashley has been kind of an asshole from a very early age, and she’s always been pretty blunt with her thoughts and feelings. she hasn’t ever felt the need to sugar-coat things, to spare other’s feelings. aside from andrew, nobody has ever been genuinely nice to her, or spared her feelings, so why should she bother?

similarly, she doesn’t lie too often, unlike andrew. she doesn’t like pretending, especially not with him. she says in game, during dinner with their parents, that she can’t “keep up” with andrew’s lies. we only really see her lie of her own accord once, and she doesn’t donit very convincingly.

she doesn’t really care about anything that doesn’t concern her or andrew, which is like. The Most logical path for her feelings to take. andrew is the only person that she’s ever known who cares about her. he’s been by her side for her entire life. her parents, her neighbors, and her friends have done wrong by her, and have been driven away by her… Her. except for andrew. (we’re ignoring the chapter two decay route for this). he’s been there through everything. he’s cared when no one else has. he’s seen her at her worst and her best moments. again, no adult taught her about caring, or pretending to care. she doesn’t feel the need to mask like andrew does, and she doesn’t have a want to “fit in” to a society that has failed her and her brother. she’s been treated as an outsider for her whole life, so she probably believes she’ll never “fit in,” she’ll never be accepted, and she doesn’t need to fit in or be accepted by them.

she greatly values loyalty in her friends. we see her act this way with andrew, with nina, and with julia. she sees people chosing others over her as a betrayal. other than andrew, no one has ever chosen ashley first. that upsets her!! that would upset anyone, but it especially upsets her because no one has ever chosen her first. her parents gave andrew all of their attention, but not her. her two friends have betrayed their friendship and put andrew above her. in game, she says it herself: she should be the top priority. with every encounter, every back-and-forth, every relationship, every decision, she’s waiting to be pushed aside. she’s waiting to be discarded. with andrew, she’ll do anything in her power to make sure he doesn’t leave her, either.

i think that it’s really interesting that she really is her worst self with andrew. she’s mean, she’s violent, she’s petty and crass and acts very childish, but she generally feels safe with him. she feels comfortable with him, and doesn’t feel the need to hold herself back at all. there’s security to be found in a relationship (of any kind) that you can say terrible things and act in horrible ways and that person stays by your side. that’s a huge part what she has with andrew. she trusts him to stay by her side, despite how awfully she may act. she places a Lot of importance on his presence in her life.

even the murder and cannibalism can be attributed to mental illness (along with The Plot). the intense mood swings that she has go along with her already violent tendencies. she feels anger, frustration, annoyance, and a whole bunch of other really negative emotions that she’s never learned to cope with. a lot of people in real life use violence as an outlet for anger. plus, she doesn’t allow herself feel upset or disgusted by death, even at her own hands (if she even feels it at all). despite that, i believe that murdering her parents had to be So cathartic for her and andrew. ashley explains in the decay route why eating people makes her feel powerful and in control, and being in control is something she very obviously feels that she lacks. she’s seen as manipulative, but she doesn’t really succeed at her manipulation. she’s understandably insecure with her entire existence, so she tries to control whoever and whatever she can, and that extends to andrew, murder, as well as cooking and eating people

there’s a lot to life that is treated as “normal” and “universal,” but everyone starts with absolutely no knowledge. experiences build a person’s worldview and shapes their personality, and ashley has had very rough experiences. she is a product of abuse and neglect and mistreatment, and is a very realistic depiction of a person who has had the experiences she’s had. the game has a pretty light tone despite the content, but it being “pretty light” doesn’t take away from the amount of detail that is put into the main characters and the trauma that they’ve suffered

ashley doesn’t have to be “good” or “positive” representation to be accurate representation, and i feel like nemlei has done a fucking excellent job at making a very, very unwell person (or two or three) in a very, very unwell society, and i am so extremely excited to see more of the graves’ childhood in chapter three

like.. it's the fact that ed was the happiest he'd been maybe his whole life and he told stede as such and stede STILL didn't believe him. because of his own crippling self doubt and self hatred. he couldn't possibly believe that ed's happiness was really affected by him, there's no way someone as incompetent and wrong as he is could matter to someone like ed. even though ed specifically told stede he did matter.

it's such a deeply low self esteem that manifests as not trusting the other person and believing the worst of them. by seeing himself as a failure and a monster to such an intense degree, stede ended up hurting ed in a way he never intended to, because he genuinely felt that ed was better without him. despite all evidence to the contrary. like that post "I thought you didn't want to hear from me and that you hate me" "it makes me feel bad when you assume I'd be that mean"

like.. the fact that the way that you feel about yourself has this horrible side effect of hurting the people around you because you've decided preemptively how they ought to feel about you. you can't make those choices for other people, no matter how much your head wants you to believe you can. do you know what I mean?

in stede's brain ed not really caring about him was a forgone conclusion. it was set in stone that the world's greatest pirate was ruined because of him. when it couldn't be further from the truth. and it wasn't malice, it wasn't anger or disgust that drove the chisel into the rock of that thought, it was only a vile and venomous self loathing.

and it hurts so bad to think about that because for all stede lauds talking things through, he so thoroughly believes he deserves all the self inflicted heartbreak that it's not worth mentioning. it's not worth working through, because he's only being given what he's earned. so there's no use talking about it. there's no use digging himself out of that hole because he's not meant for the light of day. do you know what I mean?!?!

honestly i think being sick and losing weight has caused me to be sick like .. mentally

#i Can eat again but now i’m obsessing over what i eat and how much #bc everyone keeps complimenting me for how i look & losing weight #even tho at least part of it is bc i was too sick to eat for an entire month 😐 #like i was acting … very disordered this evening #i didn’t eat until like 4:30-5pm today and bc i ate so late i decided i wouldn’t eat again #but i was hungry at like 9:30 and ultimately i did have a little snack #but i acted very … just very unwell about the whole situation #disordered eating tw #proana d0 n0t int3r@ct #like it’s pulling me into bad behaviors & thought patterns #that i haven’t dealt with in a while #and i fear i’m like .. one step away from not being able to eat unless i get high first again which i fr just kicked that habit #but the problem now is i don’t even get high that often anymore like sans the teensiest bit of weed i smoked on sunday i haven’t been high #in like 2 weeks .. so im worried i will just like .. not be able to eat bc im not even getting high 😳 #and i feel like if i do gain any weight back i’ll be like .. crazy evil to myself so it’s like .. idk what to do #uhm anyway ..

i would love to know your thoughts on jason being suicidal and how he would (sorry i cant remember the right word for it) show/express(?) it.

i think it’s implied in canon, a read between the lines kinda situation that while not explicitly stated is really not a far-fetched thought. it shows in a lot of details, but the big one being the last showdown with bruce and the joker and how jason never even thought about making it out of there alive, either bruce kills the joker -and he knows that won’t happen, he just wants the explicit confirmation- or he blows up the building as a failsafe, meaning that he’s left dead at the end of this ordeal. it’s not so much actively seeking to end his life as much as being convinced there’s an expiration date on his life he won’t make past, and that whatever he does it doesn’t matter since he won’t live further than this fixed point in his mind. that comes in part by his death and being brought back, a/dying when that shouldn't have happened in the first place and b/being alive when he should be dead and buried, already messing with his perception of living and what that means to him and the implications of life only to fulfill a goal

that in turns sips into his fixed set of ideas and convictions and informs all of his choices: he doesn’t make plans long terms or past the showdown, he doesn’t seek out personal relationships or build a proper personal life, it’s only about the end goal (aka gotham and bruce) with no thought for himself as an individual (which is a great paradox imo, that everything he does is about himself and avenging his unpunished death but at the same time he entirely forgets himself in the process, both self-centered and void of the self). it’s jason throwing himself head first into perilous situations with a seeming lack of care for his safety, we see that in the lost days where he gets into dangerous situations all the time when he could keep his head down and just train, and in uth where he does risky things over and over that rest on a gamble made on his life or safety, like blowing up buildings while he’s near, fighting a mob boss openly and doing reckless acts that he pulls at the last minute (jumping in the room with onyx being the first thing that comes to mind, he could have found other ways to trick and kill those people that didn’t involve him getting into the thick of it)

i don’t think he explicitly acknowledges or admits this to himself, he thinks that’s just a byproduct of who he is now, what makes him stronger and better than before, not an issue that hinders him or harms him. he doesn’t think ‘yeah i do that because i have no regard if i live or die’ he just does it and ignores any thoughts that might lead to this reflection using the excuse of his greater goals that demands these actions. i think the main way his suicidal tendencies show is through disregard of safety for his person and lack of care for the future beyond clear goals (like taking gotham, going to mess with dick, moving on to controlling crime as a clear solution and an end for all, etc.). jason doesn’t plan for his personal life, he doesn’t connect with other people, and he doesn’t seem to have a real place he considers home, a space for himself to settle in like others in the batfam do (to keep it to gotham/characters in his circle). he doesn’t have friends and he cut all ties with the family on purpose, it’s a clear act of severing any ties he has with a normal, adjusted life to focus as his role as red hood that in turn fuels his already harmful behavior further. so when i write jason that’s what i try to keep in mind, lack of personal life/safety and planning beyond his imposed goals as well as repressing these feelings or thoughts, willingly blinding himself to keep up the behavior on purpose.

ok officially need advice on this. my mom is a super nice woman i’ve never in my life had an argument with, but she will not stop buying me dresses online that i don’t want. we are going on a big family vacation on a fancy cruise ship in december, and for some reason either she or my stepdad has gotten it in their heads that i either can’t afford to dress myself properly or i can’t be trusted to dress myself properly. she’s sent me now like four or five boxes of clothes and each one has like five or six dresses in it, it’s getting ridiculous. she doesn’t know that i’m nb, but i did mention the last time i saw her that i’m not interested in dresses currently and i mentioned wanting to get a tux or a suit for the vacation, which was taken well at the time but completely forgotten or ignored later. additionally, now that my job has changed, i have less time to go out during the work day, and every time she sends me a box, i have to return all the stuff that i don’t want and it’s a huge hassle, like this current box i have to take it to the post office on saturday because i won’t be able to do it any other day before the date it’s due back, which means i have to try them all on now, so i can print the return slip tomorrow, so i can get them all in the box and ready saturday morning. it’s just annoying and unwanted. i don’t know how to ask her to stop, i thought the previous box she sent was the final one but i just received another this week and i’m getting really frustrated with her. but i’m worried she’ll take it personally or that it will make her sad if i say anything about it. i don’t want to upset her but i don’t want her to be wasting her money and me to be wasting my time etc

#last time i brought this up with her i said something like there’s a lot of sizing issues with ordering online and i’d love to go shopping #with her in person when she visits me (she’s planning to visit in oct some time) #and i thought that was the end of it but lo and behold another box this week #i just don’t know what to do about it this might sound crazy but i’m lowkey worried about her #she’s been texting differently than she normally does; nothing like alarming or anything but i worry that she’s lonely or stressed #and doing this is her like trying to dote on me from afar #and that i’ll hurt her feelings by telling her to stop #idk idk my mom and i used to have very similar styles #we both like fun bright colors and patterns albeit her in a mom way and me in a gay way #but we usually have fun shopping together #but aside from not being into dresses in general currently a lot of the stuff she’s picked has been total misses i don’t get it #i don’t know what’s going on with her this is weird behavior for her

“horror movies spend less time establishing character” have you only ever seen 2 movies

#a lot of horror movies are character driven #some aren’t but a lot of other genres don’t focus on character either #but like there are some complaints i see about certain movies where people complain that ‘nothing happens’ or whatever #or like the plot is less structured or whatever #and it’s like yeah maybe and sometimes that’s boring but sometimes it’s a fucking character study type thing #so like. what. ladybird is great but american mary isn’t structured enough #or like. may. excision. fucking uhh reanimator i’d say has pretty established characters #saw. what about saw. the whole movie is just two guys stuck in a room talking #the ritual is very character driven. the og film version of hill house #you know i hate orphan but orphan is pretty good at that actually #i would argue that the first 2 friday the 13th movies pretty well establish the personalities and dynamics of the characters #the exorcist. are you telling me that the exorcist doesn’t take its sweet time introducing the characters #establishing a status quo to be disrupted? an established pattern of behavior to deviate from? to say nothing of karras himself #the underlying conflict is all about internal beliefs and decisions this man is thinking about #oh the invisible man 2020 i thought they did a good job of establishing characters and relationships #anyway #i could go on. it’s just like this thing i hear ‘film critics’ (people on the internet who think their opinions are interesting) say #if you’re only watching horror movies where the characters are underdeveloped so you don’t care about them you should watch better movies #same thing with action movies. like sure you want to get to the action but plenty of good action movies have good character writing too #anyway!!

#i was telling my friend that I had some lc thoughts lately which they asked and I responded like a day after (distracted by yuri sorry) #also because I feel like I cannot articulate my thoughts without sounding like an inherently hateful or annoying person about it #there are more to this being that I talked about Benjamin pre LC behavior in the text but benjamin in LC loop behavior evolved #into a state of helplessness complacency state where he held the belief that his and A relationship only last inside the loop #which metaphorically meant that he believed A will have to remain as a hurtful person for their relationship to last #so Hokma's story just have his behavior toward A have this bit of him condemning A's behavior and go on his poor angela speech #and later on dwell into how it is actually OK for A and everyone to keep living like this because A could NEVER change anyway #and if A argues that he could that just mean that he COULDNT BE serious about it because lol something something repeated hurtful pattern #this is something he has in common with Angela as well because Angela's dialogues toward seed of light progressions express this exact #and it is when his meltdown come in where he poses as protector to protect whatever A hasnt destroyed yet #which later just dwell into him admitted that he was just being overly vebrose about his intention but in reality #it was mostly because he couldnt bear to part with A again #I do absolutely think what Benjamin/Hokma feel toward A is romatic attraction like he is literally gay so yeah #and the fact that in QnA PM has answered that Benjamin wasnt in the loop before Angela killed him and put him in so that why he got older #which makes sense because this place into the thematic that when he wanted to escape the loop or fix thing he actually #growing up #while as Hokma stuck in the loop and dealing with the above issues he started being ''stuck'' in a loop #like I cant with the popular fan theory of Benjamin is killed each loop and how tragic it is like #no it didnt happen and it would be frankly kinda lame im sorry #ok im being a hater again #there are more I wanted to say but I forgor them after writing till this point so uh
