Ok, I have this idea, the reader(preferably female) is apart of the white beard crew, but White-beard, thatch, Marco, and Ace are the only ones that know about her. She’s a shadow to the rest of the world. The marines and Government don’t even know about her. When Ace is sentenced to death, she makes an appearance because she doesn’t want her brother to end up dead. Not to mention, she’s Yonko level strong.
─Ace, Thatch & Marco x fem!reader (platonic)
─Summary: you refuse to let the only person who could see you die when no one else did
─Warnings: none
Tumblr media
─ When you joined the crew everyone celebrated having a new companion to live adventures with, however in just a few days the majority seemed to ignore your existence.
─ Perhaps it hurt you a little that some of the pirates who were supposedly your family forgot your name, but over time you understood that here everyone had their groups and the group in general was so large that it was normal that not everyone knew each other.
─ Although it took you a little longer to adapt, it was thanks to Ace's bright and fiery personality that you didn't feel like a forgotten dog.
─ Ace being the only person you felt comfortable with, you found yourself behind him like a baby duck, which he found adorable, you reminded him of Luffy when he was a kid and followed him through the forest.
─ Of course, being with Ace meant being friends with Marco and Thatch, they didn't know you at first, but they ended up warming to you after a few weeks.
─ You didn't need anything more than those three idiots, the only three people who knew you, who wanted to know about you, who remembered your name, but above all the only ones who could contemplate your strength, they dared to compare you with their father, Whitebeard.
─ Regardless of whether you were a devil fruit user or not, you were someone extremely strong, but since your existence was barely noticeable, you preferred to keep a low profile regarding your abilities.
─ When Ace began to travel and not return so often your heart tightened full of anxiety, without Thatch after the accident with Blackbeard you began to get overwhelmed with Ace's well-being.
─ Which led you to spend many hours inside Marco's office, looking for some comfort, he would calm you down with some sweet words at the time, although it was inevitable not to show concern when the news that your friend had been captured and was going to be executed.
─ You weren't going to go through that, so even without being noticed you were piled up with all those who joined together to save a comrade, a brother.
─ In the middle of the fight you had no problem making way with violence and power, and it's not like anyone was paying too much attention to you since all the attention was on the one you deduced was Luffy, Ace's brother.
─ You smiled when you saw that both brothers fell outside the place of execution, although your face became gloomy when you saw how they continued to attack them, taking into account that they were generals of the marines, you should hurry up and advance to the front.
─ The feeling in the pit of your stomach made a lump in your throat as you saw how, being one step away from both boys, you saw in slow motion how admiral Akainu's lava-coated fist headed towards Ace's exposed chest.
─ You never thought you were holding back in some battles, but even you were surprised when you sent the admiral flying out of your brother's reach, both of them looking at you with their mouth slightly open, although Ace greeted you with a smile instantly.
─ The silence fell for a few seconds and for the first time you received looks from thousands of people, feeling completely self-conscious, you hurried to get rid of the chains that linked Ace's hands to your bare hands, the priority now was to get out of there in one piece.
─ Perhaps, after your feat, people would begin to look at you with different eyes, or simply, to notice more, after all, you were the savior of the son of the pirate king.
─ Oh if Thatch were here he would brag about his sister's strength like Ace and Marco did once they returned to the ship, where this time they celebrated as if everyone were going to become extinct the next morning.

the love from a father aka one piece men and how they handle their kids
warnings: gn reader; mentions/allusions of death in roger and whitebeards
Tumblr media
shanks tries but he travels a lot. he’s got a lot of people out there who need him. he doesn’t think kids belong on the sea. that’s why he turned down luffy and even uta’s cries to let them go with him and the crew. he has a hard time coming to terms with the fact that he doesn’t know when he’ll see them next. but you can bet your bottom dollar that the second you turn 17 he’s letting you hop on board red force and set sail. he loves traveling with you but god help anyone he dares to even look at his baby in the wrong way. ships are going down.
roger on the other hand could never say no to his kid asking to hop on board. he’s already got shanks and buggy, and eventually oden’s clan as well, so why can’t his kid join? he can’t wait to show you the world. he wants you to know the world like he does. he’ll hoist you over his shoulders and run around the oro jackson to make sure you’re more than in tune with everything on the ship. always makes sure you’re safe after a run in with any other crew. when the time comes, he leaves you with shanks and buggy while they finished up the last voyage. after the crew disbanded, he left you in the care of rayleigh. having one final request that you find the one piece with ace.
rayleigh is blunt to say the least. don’t get him wrong! he loved his kid more than anything in the world, but he’s still rayleigh. he made sure you knew how to fend for yourself from a young age, sparring you up again shanks and buggy whenever he could. doesn’t know how to handle it when you get hurt. just kinda starts laughing before picking you up and handing you over to crocus to have him patch you up. type of dad to nudge his flask at you and raise an eyebrow. after he retires he makes sure to keep up with his kid. you’ve probably gone off to form your own crew or join one but the humble boat coater ray will still call every now and again.
whitebeard adores his kid. there’s no doubt about it in anyone’s mind. like rayleigh he makes sure you’re able to fight from a young age. instead of putting you against other crew members he just shows you himself. all the commanders are ready to kill for you. marco definitely takes over on “fatherly” duties when roger needs a break but as you get older he becomes more of an older brother. he was an orphan so he wants to make sure his kid knows that there is no blank space when it comes to loving them. he’s said before that a family is the greatest treasure one can have and he knows thag couldn’t be more true.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Just a Normal girl looking for an everyday life. At least, if you call sailing across the seas with idiots with useless dreams a simple task, then you might wanna see a doctor. Seriously."
Warnings: Blood, gore, mentions of Luekimia, and heaps amount of blood and strength. It might be a little cursing, but not bad, and maybe some flirting in there, but it's mostly clean.
Other things:
-You didn't get bald due to your powers; you got bald to an extreme illness.
-You part of the straw hat crew, but others are interested in you and your power.
-Everyone that is a male is taller than you.
-Monsters from the OPM world will appear in One Piece, and I'll make some new monsters you will fight.
Enjoy the twelfth chapter everyone!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Man, it's been a while.
Last time we left off, I accepted to join Luffy's crew, and for the past two years, as a captain, he ordered everyone to grow strong, for two years straight.
Including me.
Yep, that's right, he trained his Haki with Rayleigh, and I trained my haki and strength with the Marine hero, Garp.
It's been interesting, as he didn't go as hard as he did with Luffy when he was a kid, but I still worked just as hard.
Every single morning, I start with a prestige workout.
10-kilometer run.
Upper body strength.
Core strength.
Lower body strength.
weight training.
Inner peace activities, Yoga, Stretching, and Balancing.
Then Garp worked on my strategy mindset, along with different defense techniques, attacks, and mind movements with chess, and other Japanese-like games that I wasn't familiar with.
He also taught me different Haki tequniques from himself, and stuff he learned from fighting Roger, who was the last king of the pirates.
At first, I was confused on why he would train a person who would become a pirate, then I realised he knew how important I was to Luffy, and wanted to make me storng so when he comes across me again, he won't hold back his strength, which I wouldn't blame him.
But, things aside, Garp also worked on combat training with me against Koby, who I formed some sort of bond with over the past two years.
The blonde didn't like me because I was a pirate, but I grew on him once the two years were coming to an end.
But, all of the harsh training and sparing, making new friends with some Marines, and people, the two years will soon come to an end, when Tomorrow I meet up with Luffy, and meet my new crew members.
It was a start of a new journey, and Journey of fun, excitement and Adventure, which was something I've been longing for forever.
Oh, and your probably wondering, what about Crocodile, buggy, and the ones who helped me and Luffy at Marineford? Well, let's say I was writing them all letters, and knew that Ivankov was training one of my crewmembers I've yet to meet yet.
All of them are doing quite well, Mister Three Joined buggies crew, while Mister One was working beside Crocodile, as they are trying to rise the ranks, to become something differemt which makes me proud.
Jimbei hasn't written back at all, which is understandable as he is a busy fishman all the time, but it makes me curious on how he is doing.
Luffy has seemed to be doing well, as he wrote back to me all rayleigh has taught him, all the jokes and fun things the two did these past two years, which made me excited to see him more and more.
Ace, however, did some training of his own, which is understandable from the Marineford incident, but he never really told me who trained him.
Either way, I'm glad he's living a fair life right now, as Pop's death is put behind everyone who fought in that war two years ago.
He told me he was doing quite well, finding hobbies to keep him busy, as well as rebuilding the Whitebeard Pirates into something more, which makes me glad his life is taking a turn for the better.
With many thoughts running through my mind, the sunset of this day was showing onto the sea, myself sitting on a grassy hill as the trees and the flowers danced with the sea brease.
You look a little different as well, grown up, as you were still Y/B/T, (Your body type.) but you looked stronger, happier, and more intelegent.
Wigs, the ones you used to wear, you got everything that could cover your bald head out of your life, as you learned that being bald, doesn't mean anything different about a person. You learned hwo to embrace yourself, and your bald head, as it is a symbol of beauty, and it shows a symbol of piece to people, just like Saitama did with his bald head-well, kind of.
As i continued to watch the beauty of the sunset in front of me, I felt a familiar presence behind, as Koby sat in the spot next to me. "It's quite beautiful isn't it?" I nod. "Yeah, I'm sure going ot miss doing this everynight....these past two years have been...." He chuckled. "Hard?" I shook my head with a smile. "No-well, yes, but I've never had to much fun in my entire life....learning new skills, eating different kinds of food that's not from my world, even making new friends." I nudge Koby, as he chuckled. "Never expected this when I was first recruited. Training with a girl who will become apart of a pirate crew who's run by Garps Grandson. Especially a girl from a different world. I say, when a mad man tells me that, I'd think their crazy, but a girl like you, with powers like yours, explaining everything that had happened, how can I not belive it?" I smile more.
"Your lucky I didn't turn on you, 'Admrial.'" He snorted. "Future, Admiral, well, that's still the plan anyway. It just makes me think how far both of us came, and it makes me wonder more how far Luffy proceeded, and how strong he became, guess you'll find out tomorrow, huh?" Sighing, I looked back at the sunset. "Yeah..." Many thoughts ran through my head, as I was quite nervous with meeting his crew, as koby could sense my uneasyness, as his head tilted. "Are you alright, Y/n? You seem to be thinking a lot lately..." I let out another sigh. "Let me ask you a question, before you joined the marines, where you ever nervous?" Koby was silent from my question for a moment, before he ssmiled. "Of course I was, all my life I was scared, but, once Garp trained me, and i've became stronger and knew what being a marine was like overall, all my nerves went away. I knew what my purpose was, to achiev the Marine Admiral title, and I know I can let my nerves get away from my goals." His words struck you in the heart, as you smiled again, your eyes then looking to the ground.
"I see...well, I guess I shouldn't be nervous then huh?" Koby chuckled. "Don't get me wrong, it's ok to be nervous when your entering a new chapter in life, but, trust me when I tell you this, the straw-hat pirates will be the nicest people you ever meet, because I know them too." My eyes widened slightly. "Ah, that's right, you told me you've encountered them a few times." He nodded. "Yes I have, and they are strong too, but now that two years have gone by, I'm curious too see how thye have grown, and how they will think of your strength, I have faith Y/n you'll fit right in, because Luffy asked you to be apart of his crew for a reason." Sighing, Koby was right, as my smily grew a lot more. Luffy didn't just ask me because I was desperate, or on the verge of death, he saw potential in me, he saw my strength physically and mentally, and he sought of it as a perfect fit. Plus he saw my loyalty to him, which a captian needs a loyal crew member in order to survive these treturous seas. "The boys right." Both of us looked to Garp, who held his usual smile, as a cookie was in his hands. Koby's eyes widened with the sight, as he got up. "Sir, are you sure your supposed to be have that?! The doctor said-“
“Bah! Screw what the doctor says; I’m grown up and can have anything I want! Besides, I earned this for training you idiots!” Garp interrupted, laughing while taking a bite of his well-deserved cookie. “Sir, with all due respect, sweets are nice to have oonce in a while, but with how old you are, having too much sugar is not the greatest idea-“ Koby got bonked “I CAN EAT THIS COOKIE IF I WANT TO IS THAT CLEAR?!” “Y-Yer sir!” Giggling from the usual antics, Garp sighed and took the final bite of his cookie while looking at me. “Nerves can be a great obstacle when sailing the seas, but trust me on this: my grandson can take your nerves away in an instant; besides all the training we did, all the battle strategies and studies I’ve shown you both, I have full faith you both will make it in this pirate world. Just remember the important tactics in the future when I’ll be chasing you down, and pray that your God will help you throuth. HAHAHAHA!”
His words made my eyes rolled. "I can achieve anything through Christ who strengthens me, so don't be surprised when I don't hold back." My smirk made him laugh more as he patted my back. "That's the spirit kid! Even if you are a pirate or a marine, a strong will and heart will always be a good power when facing tough opponents; just remember not to gloat about the positive attributes since you always have your crew on your side to back you up. Who am I kidding? I'm a marine, not a pirate. HAHAHAH!" Koby sighed. "I think you had enough cookies.." he took to bag, and Garp paused before slumping, and I giggled more. "Thank you guys…I know I'm going to be ok. I've worked hard for this; now it's time to start a new chapter in my life… I will never be more blessed to be alive right now." Turning to the two, I gave them a huge smile. "Thank you both for the best two years of my life; when we meet again, we won't consider friends or family; we'll be rivals with benefits." Koby nodded, smiling at me. "Right!" Garp put a finger to his chin. "Rivals with Benefits huh? I've never heard that before, but consider me a family Rival. Y/n, keep Luffy in check because he will need much help to get through the seas. Especially now that Ace is saved, just don't do anything reckless, alright? Don't wanna drop you off tomorrow, and something went wrong."
I nodded this time. “Of course, Sir. I’ll do my best.” Garp crossed his arms. “Now, you must know a few things when we arrive tomorrow. One, I will give you a 5-minute head start before sending my marines after you. I will give you coordinates to where Luffy’s ship would be, as Rayleigh told me. Find the ship, don’t get caught, and meet your new crew mates, understand?” I nodded again as he continued. “There will be a high chance the Kuma army will be there two, but nothing you can’t handle. Think smartly, not rashly. Therefore, I have nothing else to teach you; now get some rest; we set sail for Sabaody at dawn.” Me and I nodded again. “Yes, sir!” With that, he left, and Koby looked at me. “Are you going to be ok?” Signing, I smiled, looking at him. “Yeah, actually..”
“I have a feeling I’m going to be more than ok…”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Alright, listen up!” It was the next day, as the marine ship you were on was approaching the destination, as Garp was telling you the plan. I had everything ready, all packed, as my excitement grew more. “Here are the coordinates to Luffy ship; before I give you a five-minute head start, you will run into familiar people, new foes, and some idiot lowlife pirates that boast about themselves. Just focus on getting to the Sunny, with no distractions or errors, understand?” I nodded to Garp. “Yes, sir!” He grinned. “Good, now here is a month's supply of food; since I know how Luffy eats, all of this is needed-“ “DID YOU STEEL THE COOKIES FROM HERE?!” Koby snapped as Garp froze, whipping at the boy. “ONLY ONE LUFFY CAN SURVIVE!!” “YOU DID NOT TAKE ONE SIR YOU TOOK A WHOLE BOX!” “LIKE I SAID, LUFFY WILL SURVIVE NOW. SHUT UP!!” Koby got hit with Garp's fists before handing me the food bag, which I could carry easily. “Now, the coordinates should be easy for you to understand since I wrote the instruction for kindergarteners, so don’t screw up and get lost. Once we dock, immediately hop off the ship, no of that emotional goodbye stuff even though I will miss having a girl to train…” he started to get emotional and turned as Koby approached him. “DON’T CRY THEN!” He snapped as I smiled. “It’s okay; crying isn’t a sign of weakness. I’ll see you both again. The two years was just the beginning.”
Koby smiled at my words as he walked closer to me. "Of course, I'll put up a good fight next time." I smiled at his confidence as he held out a fist, but I ignored it and hugged him, and he froze. His face was red; he was shocked that I was doing this. I was getting emotional when I felt his arms wrap around me. "Be safe. Koby… don't get yourself killed.." I whispered as he hugged me tighter; I could feel his breath on my skin. "Same to you, Y/n.." Pulling away, I wiped my tears before looking to Garp, who was still crying while facing out, as I sighed. "Garp." I knelt to him and smiled. "Thank you for training me and helping me to grow stronger. The techniques you taught me will also come in handy for defense. But sometimes, when good people part ways, it's always good to cry occasionally. But don't worry, I won't think any less of your strength because you are crying. I'll be ok, and keep Luffy safe, I promise." His brows knitted together. "You better; I don't want another brat to worry for when I'm chasing me. Besides, you'll be one hell of a pirate, a strong one at that." I smile. "And it's all thanks to you. Well, I guess I should go, huh? Thank you two again. Be safe!" As my five minutes were starting, I grew excited. I bowed, grabbed my stuff, and hopped off the Marine ship, running straight ahead. As Garp and Koby watched, Bogard walked up to the two and just glanced at Garp. "You're giving her more time, aren't you.." Garp laughed. "Of course I am; she'd be considered lucky since this place is confusing; she should be just fine. EVERYONE GET READY TO PULL TO THE FRONT BAY! WE'LL CUT THEM OFF!!" A bunch of 'Yes sirs' rang through the deck as the ship went out of the dock while you, of course, were looking at the directions as you followed the numbers on the trees.
This place was unique, full of bubbles which is meant for a five year old.
Everything looked plastic, even though it wasn’t, as you took a chance to take in the scenery, grasped the food bag and stuff, and adjusted it on your back.
Many people were here, and it was pretty lively with different people. The more I got closer to town, the more excited I felt.
Continuing to run, I tried my best to avoid many people and not make a big scene, as marines were already around the area, but they were probably not under Garp's command.
Making sure not to be seen, I kept a low profile as my posture was normal, my head was down, and my excitement was high.
It was not just excitement running high through me; it was also nervous because I hadn't seen Luffy in two years, let alone met his whole crew, and I heard rumors that they were just as strong as him.
Garp informed me of their names, as they all sounded unique, and I couldn't wait to meet them.
Roronoa Zoro: The fearsome swordsman.
Nami: Cat Burglar or Navigator
Nico Robin: the famous archeologist.
Chopper: The doctor.
Vinsmoke Sanji: The Cook.
Franky: The Shipwright
Brook: The musician
Usopp: The fearless sniper.
All of their titles seemed unique and different, and it made me even more nervous to meet them, as I didn't know where my strength and title stood against them, but I hope I get along with everyone.
As I kept running and running, I arrived at a green-hilled pasture, as more bubbles from this island were formed, until...I saw him.
That's right. I saw Luffy's big backpack on his back as he was in front of Rayleigh, who had trained him for the past two years.
Behind him were two handsome men: a tall, muscular, green-haired guy with a slash on his left eye and the other male beside him, who was blonde, elegant, and had a black go-tee.
"Huh, those two men must be a part of his crew.." I stated as I continued running that way, but as I was heading to them, the Marines yelled to stop Luffy and the two men as they were about to attack.
My eyes widened, and my teeth gritted as I jumped before the three. When I got close enough, my cloak blew in the wind as my fist went back. "NORMAL SPREAD PUNCH!" I yelled, Slamming my fist on the floor as all the marines that were in front of the three suddenly scattered in a large explosion.
The ground rumbled, and the leftover marines' eyes widened as they couldn't believe how much power suddenly occurred.
Dust arose, the chaos in front of Luffy, and the two men widened their eyes as my Silhouette was shown, making Luffy's lips form a bright smile.
"You're an Idiot, Luffy....for not having your guard up all the time.." I stated, a smile curling on my lips as I was revealed.
The marine's eyes widened more when they saw me, as some of them backed away with fear.
"I-It's Y/n L/N's..! The powerful girl that saved Fire Fist Ace years ago!"
"W-Why is she here?! Rumors said she joined a pirate crew; wait, don't tell me.."
"Stop her from helping the Strawhats escape!!!"
Luffy couldn't stop smiling. "Y/n!!! Is that really you?! Wow!! You look so different! HAHA!" Luffy hugged me, and his laughter brought warmth into my ears as I laughed, too, hugging him back. The blonde Male had hearts in his eyes and was waving his arms. "Wah! A pretty lady!!!" I blushed, flattered by the blonde's comment, as the green-haired male stepped forward, grabbing onto his sword handle. "Luffy, you know this girl?"
Luffy smiled, letting go of me as he began to pat my back repeatedly. "It's Y/n! I forgot you all haven't met her yet! She is a part of our crew!" Both of the men froze, as I smiled nervously, and I waved. "H-Hi...I heard a lot about you both...Garp has told me a lot of information...your Zoro and Sanji right?"
The two's eyes widened as Sanji's eyes turned into hearts, his nose bleeding a little. "She knows my name!!" Zoro stepped forward, a little shocked. "Yeah, those are our names... you said Garp told you information about us..which means you were with the Marines?"
Laughing nervously, I scratched the back of my head. "Well, I wasn't a part of the Marines; I just gotta taste what it was like for the past two years. Garp trained me, actually." Sanji paused his simpering as his and Zoro's eyes widened. "Wait, really, Garp trained you?" Sanji asked. "I'm surprised," Zoro added, then continued. "Being the hero of the Marines, I would expect the least of him to train someone who's part of a pirate crew. Well..it's nice to meet you, Y/n gotta admit, you're strong, but are you worth enough to fight alongside Luffy..?" Zoro's calm question caught me by surprise, but I wasn't hesitant when I firmly nodded my head to him before speaking."Luffy has a strong heart and a great dream. People like him deserve Fairness and to achieve his goals and actions in life. Two years ago, I fought alongside him to Save Ace. I won't stop fighting with him until he becomes pirate King. For the world to know even the lowest of people who are pirates or Marines or even just regular people, all deserve Fairness and to live in a world where they won't be bored but have a sense of fun and adventure." My words struck Zoro somehow, as he could see the determination, loyalty, and Kindness in my eyes. He didn't know who I was or what Luffy had brought to the table, but he knew I was loyal to Luffy, making his lips curl into a small smile as I saw his hand go out to me. "Well then, that settles things...dI like you Y/n.....Welcome to the crew..." My heart fluttered as I looked up at him before smiling, as my hand firmly grasped in his. "Thank you both!"
"You kids better go; I'm sure more Marines will be coming this way." A familiar voice spoke, and we all turned to see Rayleigh as I smiled at him. "Rayleigh!" He smiled down at me calmly, his tall form towering over me. Even though his age had seen better days, his looks never failed him, as he was as handsome as ever. "Hello there, Y/n-san; I must say, Garp trained you well. Did you lose weight?" I smiled more at his question as I nodded. "I did! I've never felt better about myself, and I have your Grandpa to thank for that, Luffy." Luffy laughed, holding his stomach with a smile as Rayleigh chuckled.
"Well, I'm proud of you, Y/n; you look good... perfect. Be who you want to be...don't let anyone else tell you who you are, because if you let them..well.." His hand reached out, gently popping a bubble about to land on my nose as my cheeks rose in color, and his smile continued to show the more he looked at me. "Your life won't be as bright as it is now...you don't want that, do you, Y/n?" My heart continued to beat rapidly; I felt like I was going to explode as my head quickly shook, which made him smile more, his hand going onto my head. "Good girl...because bright people like you deserve fairness, just remember that. I want to keep seeing your Kindness when you rise with Luffy on the Grandline; just don't forget to Visit this Old Geezer occasionally, ok? Can you Promise me that?" Nodding from his question, my eyes met his again. "Of course, I'll visit you, Rayleigh; that is a definite promise, right Luffy?" Luffy nodded also. "Yes! That's right! You are not alone anymore, Rayleigh! Your family to us now!" When Luffy smiled, Rayleigh got emotional as he wiped his eyes. "Family huh? I quite like the sound of that...you all better be careful...the Grandline is even more dangerous than ever, so remember to always keep guard and protect each other...you four better head to the Sunny; I'll take care of the Marines here.." Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and I all nodded with Rayleigh's words, as we turned, and started running, heading to Luffy's ship.
Before the Marines could attack us more, Rayleigh fended them off, serving no match against him.
As the four of us ran, heading in the right direction, Luffy smiled brightly beside me. "We have so much to catch up on!" I nodded to his question. "Indeed we do. Luffy." As Luffy smiled brightly again from my agreement, a large shadow cast over the four of us as we paused to see a Giant bird, which widened my eyes.
But, before we could be hesitant, a familiar voice spoke, and we saw the familiar Doctor, known as Chopper, waving and Yelling to Zoro, Sanji, and Luffy.
"Chopper!" Luffy yelled, smiling more as the bird landed. My eyes sparkled when looking at the Reindeer, as he was so cute when he tackled Luffy into a hug, and Zoro and Sanji, the four of their laughter, warmed my heart.
As Chopper looked at Luffy, he looked at the bird. "Everyone is waiting for you, Luffy, at the Sunny!" Luffy's eyes widened. "Robin, Brook, Nami, Usopp, and Franky are there already?! Well, we can't keep them waiting! Zoro, Sanji, Y/n, let's get on the bird and hurry!"
The three of us nodded, soon getting on the bird, which took off, as Chopper directed it to the right path while it flew high in the sky.
I couldn't help but be in awe with the View of this island, as it was pretty beautiful. It was peaceful, flying so high in the sky as I closed my eyes, enjoying the calm wind hitting my skin. The bird continued to head to the Sunny until Luffy saw his ship in his eyes and smiled again. "There it is! OI! GUYS!! EVERYONE!!" He yelled as I looked down at him, and the other members of his crew smiled more, too, getting up from their spots and running to the edge of the boat, greeting him back with the same amount of kindness.
I noticed some of them crying, and it made my heart warm when the bird got closer.
But, then suddenly, a pool of blood came out of Sanji's nose as he flew off the ship, and my eyes widened with shock as the chopper yelled for him as he fell into the water.
Zoro wasn't bothered to get him, as it was customary for his nose to bleed like this; I was just concerned for Sanji as the bird was close enough to Sunny, allowing me, Luffy, chopper, and Zoro to hop on, as Chopper thanked the bird.
As the bird flew away, Usopp cried for Chopper to stop Sanji's nose from bleeding, as Zoro simply walked past, and I looked amongst the Chaos, not knowing what to do as Luffy was too busy admiring Franky's new form. "Excuse me." A voice spoke as I turned to Robin, who looked at me curiously as her tallness towered over me.
"Are you the new crewmember Rayleigh spoke of?" My posture was fixed as soon as she asked that, and I nodded. "Y-Yes, my name is Y/n; it's nice to meet you." My answer piqued Nami's interest. "Oh, so your Y/n! You helped Luffy save Ace!! I'm Nami! It's nice to meet you!" She offered me her hand, and I smiled and shook it. "It's nice to meet you, Nami. Luffy told me so much about you." My statement made her sigh. "I'm sorry if Luffy has caused you trouble. He's a good captain but can be a handful sometimes." I giggled at her statement. "Ah, not Luffy is fine, he's not a handful I promise-" I paused when a Skeleton, or Brook, approached me as he bowed like a gentleman.
"Hello there, beautiful Lady! My name is Brook! I do have one question, if you don't mind me asking." I smiled up at him. "Ok, sure, go ahead." He coughed in his handkerchief before he leaned down to me more. "May I see your panties?" My face fumed red before Nami suddenly bonked his head instantly. "STOP ASKING TO SEE WOMANS PANTIES! YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE HER UNCOMFORTABLE!" she snapped; I was shocked by the sudden outburst but then snorted when holding my mouth as this situation was quite funny. "Don't mind, Brook." I turned to look up at Franky, who had a smile on his face.
"He asks that question to every woman, so don't feel a bit embarrassed; the name's Franky and I gotta say, when I heard Luffy asked a girl like you to join our crew, I didn't believe you'd be this cute." His compliment made my face flush more as Nami's head whipped to him. "Don't add gas to the fire, Franky!" Franky shrugged. "What? It's the truth. Besides, I don't think she's too bothered by it, right?" His wink made me giggle as I nodded. "You're right about that. Say, Franky, I think you're pretty cool; I knew of a Cyborg once." His eyes widened. "Really? What was he like? Strong, tall, handsome?" Watching him smirk, I smile. "He was all three of that thing; sadly, he died when fighting a monster, but he still lives in my heart!" Franky's facial expression changed slightly. "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that; you have my respect, Y/n. He must have been a true good friend." I don't remember Genos, but he seemed to be a good friend of Saitama as I nodded with Frankie's command. "Yeah, he sure was.." I looked around before my eyes landed on Usopp and Chopper chatting with Luffy. "And you two must be Chopper and Usopp, correct?" The two pauses when turning to me, as Usopp nodded confidentially, his lips forming a grip. "That's right! I'm Usopp the Great, The most feared sniper of Luffy's crew!" My eyes sparkled with curiosity as I smiled. "That's so cool! So you shoot guns and stuff?!" He smiled nervously at my comment. "Well, not just guns; I can shoot lots of stuff and also make throwables to aid me in a fight, I know; hold your applause; it's awesome..." I smiled more, impressed with his Skill, as Nami glared at him. "We all know you are just being greedy now.." She growled as Usopp froze suddenly before laughing nervously. "I'm a pirate; what do you expect, Nami-"
"Oi, everyone heads up," Zoro spoke, as suddenly a Cannonball flew by Sunny, almost hitting it as it alerted everyone else.
Usopp and I ran over to the ship railing, looking more serious as we looked towards the Marine ships. "Oh no! When did they get here?!" Usopp asked as I glanced that way, as there were about three Navy ships. "It seems there are three Navy ships that way," I stated, as more Cannon balls barely missed the Sunny as I turned to Luffy. "Luffy, should we get rid of them?" But, before he could answer, more Cannonballs flew, heading straight for the ship this time, as the crew prepared to deflect them until pink-like arrows took them down, which alerted us to look at a familiar ship, Boa Hancock's ship.
Smiling, Robin walked up beside us; her face was blank. "That's Kuja's logo." Nami turned to her, confused. "Kuja?" "They're strong Amazonian pirates led by a pirate empress, Warlord." Robin's words shocked Usopp. "A Warlord?!!" Robin turned to him. "Her name is Boa Hancock. They say anyone who sees her will be attracted by her beauty." Brook stood on the other side of me, looking through the scope, as his face turned to shock, pink hinting at his bony facial structure. "Oh, too bright! She is dazzling!" He almost stumbled backward, as I giggled while Usopp caught the scope, looking as well as his mouth nearly dropped to the floor. "Wow! She must be a goddess!" His words widened Sanji's eyes as he hopped up from the floor, bolting to Usopp as he looked. "Goddess? Goddess! Let me see, let me see, where is she-" He paused when he saw her, turned into stone, and I Usopps eyes widened. "He turned into stone!" We both shouted with shock as Luffy came up behind us. "Oh, that's Hancock and the others!" He spoke as Usopp looked at him, as well as Brook and Sanji.
Boa turned her head to look at the sunny, as she saw me smiling which warmed her heart before she winked at me, which made my cheeks rise in color as Brook almost had a heart attack when he flung back.
"She helped us," Luffy spoke. "Let's set sail now!" he ordered, as Nami questioned if he knew her, as he nodded. "Yeah, I was sent to Maiden Island and I became friends with them. They helped Y/n too in keeping her in their country to recover her injuries." He stated as Usopp looked back at Boa's ship. " So that's the legendary female-only island, right? They definitely live up to their name." I nodded with his question before Sanji came up behind Luffy, a dark aura behind him. "Luffy..you were friends with the pirate empress?! HEY! WERE YOU REALLY TRAINING HARD?!" Sanji asked, tears of remorse coming from his eyes as Luffy smiled nervously at him. "Yes, Sanji, I really did train." Sanji slumped, going on all fours as he was crying more, I was then beside him, patting his back. "It's ok Sanji-kun, at least theirs other empresses out there in the sea..." He sobbed more, and my eyes widened as I felt like I made it worse as Zoro walked past, with a blank face. "Ignore his cries, he's grown more than an Idiot since two years ago." Sanji whipped to his feet. "SHUT UP MOSS HEAD!"
Nami sighed, as she spoke up before the two started fighting again. "Okay, let's get ready to set sail now!"
Everyone agreed, as no more marines were attacking us or stopping us from leaving, as a Marine ship was in my view, I saw Garp, Bogard, and Koby, and I smiled at them; waving. "GARP!! KOBY!!! BOGARD!!! THANK YOU FOR THE BEST TWO YEARS OF MY LIFE!!!" I yelled, catching the straw hat's attention, as Usopp and Chopper's eyes widened with fear when seeing Garp's ship.
But, Luffy told the crew not to attack, as everyone saw the tears brimming on Garp and Koby, while Bogard just smirked, as they stated their goodbyes, as it was an emotional moment.
Tears brimmed my eyes also, as the thousand Sunny continued to pull out of port, The three marines stayed until the Sunny's ship was out of sight. But, as the Sunny was sailing across the sea, a bubble roof was formed from the stuff coating the ship, as me, and everyone else's eyes widened as Nami spoke up again.
"Listen up everyone." She opened a paper. "A coated ship can reduce any kind of pressure. So once the floating bag at the ship's bottom which keeps it on the surface has been removed, it'll be less buoyant and start to sink."
"I see." Luffy, Zoro, and I spoke as Nami smiled. "Pretty easy to understand, right? Anyway, spread the sail now!"
Everyone nodded with the agreement as the straw hats, and I prepared to set sail.
Garp was right; Luffy and his crew weren't so bad, as from that day forward, I had a pretty good feeling about the future...as I will not stop fighting along side Luffy until.....
He becomes king of the pirates...

Hey so also have Sir Crocodile brainrot and have recently reread Impel Down. This is probably nothing at all but it made me question the artistic choice made. Like we dont see Crocodiles full face until Luffy recognizes him. Before that tho he joins in on Jinbei & Ace's convo about Whitebeard and is shown to (non-)react to Boa Hancocks visit. But we only get his face in shadows or see the hook. Which. Why. Oda we know what he looks like and who the guy with the stitches on his face and the hook is. WHY OBSCURE HIM.
My friend, this is what we call a "cocktease"
Okay jokes aside, yes it was an artistic choise. More specifically, a storytelling technique Oda masterfully used to build up hype and excitement to Crocodile's eventual reveal and re-introduction into the story.
So thanks to Ms Goldenweek's cover story (which ran back during Water 7/Enies Lobby) we already knew Crocodile along with Daz, Bon-chan and Galdino had all been sent to Impel Down, when we also learned about Impel Down, Marineford and the Gates of Justice (+ the giant whirlpool between the three locations) to some extent. ((Now of course, if you were an anime-only then you would've had no idea about the former BW members being in Impel Down. And even if you had read the manga you still would've had to actually pay attention to the cover story and its lore, and not forgotten all about it))
So even before Luffy decides he's going to head to Impel Down to save Ace, we know Crocodile's going to be somewhere down there. The second Luffy arrives there, we are immidiately reminded of the fact when Domino mentions Crocodile taking the traditional "bath" new inmates take at the entrance. And as we descend deeper and deeper into Impel Down, with those cuts to what's happening down at Level 6 every now and then, as well as with the Baroque Works Countdown, Oda time and time again keeps on reminding of us of Crocodile's looming presence in the background. This is all absolutely deliberate. Crocodile was arguably the most iconic (maybe not most popular but iconic) One Piece villian at the time, if given an opportunity of course the readers wanted to see him again. But just letting us see him right away would be anti-climactic, and distracting from what's actually important (Ace, and Luffy getting to him as fast as possible). So keeping him hidden could serve multiple purposes:
For one, Crocodile doesn't get to steal the spotlight from the other characters (at least not too early). We can focus on Luffy, Ace, all the new Impel Down characters and the other returning characters in peace, while Crocodile waits for his turn. Another thing is that Crocodile's presence being downplayed gives off the impression that perhaps him being there isn't that important to the story. Thus, him teaming up with Luffy to break out isn't such an obvious twist (and so when that happens, it's ever more hype as a result)
But indeed, the most important part is that by teasing us constantly through out Impel Down, Oda creates hype. He makes us the readers excited if/when we might get to see the bastard, even if it was just a quick little cameo. So when Luffy finally reaches Level 6 and we finally do get that reveal, everyone loses their fucking marbles over the HISASHIBURI DANA MUGIWARA when we finally get to see The Motherfucker Himself. (And indeed, then getting to see him fight alongside Luffy is cool as fucking hell, completely unexpected and absolutely delightful)
But there's also another thing building up to Crocodile's reveal does. Compare his original introduction to the re-introduction
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Compare Crocodile at the height of his power and influence, to the absolute rock bottom he has hit. No longer happily laughing while looking down on people (literally), he's filthy, he has given up on life, with sunken eyes and a hollow look on his face, only moved by a thirst for petty revenge (/an opportunity to go out with a bang). He doesn't even get the whole page for his grand reveal anymore, he's been shuffled to the side so the plot can progress on the same page.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
And to some degree, this is kind of meant to be a shocking realization to the readers. That this is not the same Crocodile we remember from Alabasta, that Crocodile died when Luffy defeated him. This is just the husk that remains, a shadow of what was once there. It's a sad sight, and probably not what the readers who loved Crocodile The Villian wanted to see. It's not the epic Return of the (Evil) King they wanted. And that juxtaposition helps, because Crocodile doesn't return into the story as a villian, but as a frenemy/ally-on-thin-ice. And that idea is easier to signal to the readers in a lowkey manner when you do his re-introduction like this.
So yes, Oda refusing to show Crocodile's face until Luffy found him was 100% a deliberate artistic choise. This is fantastic storytelling

I don't think Yamato is getting the love that he deserves from people, like why isn't anyone talking about him as much? Yamato had been alone all of his life (accept with Kaido or the people serving Kaido). He also had explosive chained handcuffs on his arms to keep him from escaping because they knew if they had a choice. He would leave them without a thought. Now think about it. Yamato basically had no friends for the longest time and because he was a child do you really think that he would want to stay in a place like that?
Yamato found a handwritten book about a legendary samurai of Wano, without even knowing how to read as much. Yamato accepted the book as his own and because he had a feeling that the book was one of a kind.
Once he was able to understand the words, Yamato didn't hesitate to take his personality and incorporate that into his own for the sake of Wano. Even though he knew that once people knew about him being Kaido's son, they would treat him no better than his father. Imagine being treated like that in your world, you having to hide away because of your families reputation... For anyone going through that, stay strong my guys! You're awesome and don't let anyone stop you from being awesome! 💪
Tumblr media
(art study by this piece right down below! ↓)
Tumblr media
Back to the subject, Kaido, we all know who he is and I honestly don't want to describe him as much because this is about yamo, not him. Yamato was thrown into the rock dungeon because he believed in Oden thinking that the hungry samurai's would eat him or something 💀 but little did he know that the samurai's there treated Yamato a lot better than anyone had for the longest of times.
Just step into Yamato's shoes for a second, this kid grew up with no mother, a basically non existent father, no friends, and was thrown in rock jail as a kid for saying he likes Oden. We should respect the fact that Yamato stayed so strong for so many years. even though being Kaido's son had hurt him deeply. We as an audience got to see more sides in Yamato than just being "Kaido's son". He endured every little bad thing that came his way for the sake of Wano. Once he saw the tiniest shred of hope. Yamato did not hesitate to take the matters into his own hands
(Which is why I also think the relationship he developed between Ace was really special)
Ace might not have not fulfilled his promises to Yamato, but he did spark that flame inside if him, and changed his viewpoint in himself to keep him going strong for many future years. Ace was the one friend that believed in him. He knew Yamato was strong, and he wanted him to continue growing stronger even after he left. We also got to see our Yamato smile again 🥺 who wouldn't like to rewatch episode 1015 again for that sake?
Even though Ace left him all alone. This time Yamato knew what needed to be done, and he also knew that a notorious pirate will come roaming through the oceans, and eventually land to the land of Wano. His brother luffy.
He knew that once the time came, the Wano that everyone had been dying to restore will be achievable because of Luffy. So Let's all be silly and stay happy knowing that our boy Yamo is happy, he deserves it.
Tumblr media
Also... This is very random but Feminine Yamato is so fun to draw. I love Drawing him as the most female looking guy in the show. Let's show some appreciation for Yamato!

Hi, I'm still not used to submitting requests so let's hope I'm doing it right lol. So I don't know how far you are with One Piece but is it possible to request Luffy and his friends & allies meeting Ace's s/o on Wano (she's Izo and Kiku's younger sister) who reveals that she had Ace's son (who looks like Ace) and then maybe everyone meeting him? You can delete the request if it's too much^_^
hi, hi <3 ace having a secret son breaks my heart; i tried to keep it a little lighthearted bc thinking abt ace not getting to meet his son is so sad.
1.1k words, sfw, a little angst, brief alcohol mention, i couldn't include all the characters i wanted to (since there were too many in wano lmao), & it's not my usual style of narration, but i hope you enjoy anyway :) i chose not to name the woman or the child (left it up to y'all to use your imagination on that for simplicity)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
when all is said and done, luffy can hardly take another major surprise. he’s not emotionally equipped, nor is he even remotely interested in having his life uprooted — it’s happened far too often for his liking, and is still happening despite his reluctance to accept this as truth. it’s not that he doesn’t believe it, it’s not that he would ever accuse anyone of lying, it’s that the last time he saw ace, it was in the middle of battle where he died in luffy’s arms. so when a woman who claims to have known his older brother — and, let’s be real, plenty of people around the grand line knew ace personally — comes forward, wanting to meet luffy face to face, he’s initially reluctant.
what can she possibly tell him? what story does she have to add to his arsenal of memories of the one brother he thought would never leave him?
after all of the carnage, as wano proceeds to rebuild, it’s only due to kiku and kin’emon’s interference, that luffy even agrees to meet her. not one to keep things from his crew, luffy has the other straw hats, along with some of the other allies, to come with him. it’s over a quaint dinner, that she reveals that ace has a lover who has resided in wano her entire life. if luffy and the others hadn’t come to the aid of the country, he might have never crossed paths with her.
in the middle of stuffing his mouth full of savory, roasted meat, he tilts his head at her, the tragic, romantic tale of her fated meeting with ace slowly puts him to sleep. it’s zoro who, over his glass of whiskey, asks her what the point of her story is — as he’s not one for flowery language or long-winded stories without a point. sanji and nami both chastise him, while the others are quite invested in what she’s saying. before she can get to the crux of things, a shrill yell startles them, and in comes a fussy toddler, stomping around the dining room, dragging a blanket behind him, mouth fixed into a frown.
luffy nearly chokes on his food, hopping out of his chair, his eyes practically bulging out of his head at the sight.
if anyone outside of wano were to take a look at this child, they’d see that he is, without a doubt, 100% ace’s son. the signature splatter of freckles along his face, the determined, mischievous look he sports, the messy head of dark hair — it has luffy taking several steps back, unable to believe what he’s seeing. jinbe, coincidentally, is also just as much in awe, the tears spilling down his cheeks before he can stop them. everyone remains quiet, waiting for luffy to make the first move. the child surveys the room before stomping over to his mother and demanding she pick him up.
when the initial shock finally wears off, luffy is around the table and by the woman’s side in a matter of seconds. he asks so many questions, she can hardly answer them all, and the tension that initially filled her home with unease, completely dissipates.
on her end, this is all very hard to deal with. while she hadn’t known ace long, she came to love him deeply. to find out that her older sister hasn’t aged since she last time they saw one another, to find out that their older brother died before she could see him again, to meet ace’s younger brother — the one he could never shut up about — it is all too much. she didn’t exactly think things through, but she didn’t want to run the risk of not meeting luffy and not introducing him to his very rambunctious nephew.
ace’s mini-me has most of his father’s mannerisms, his wild demeanor, and also his kindness; he’s very curious, allowing luffy to invade his space without issue and immediately taking a liking to his uncle, much to his mother and aunt’s relief. luffy picks him up, tossing him in the air a few times before passing him around to his friends. they’re all extremely receptive to this new addition to their rather large, extended family. from her seat, his mother watches how animated luffy is playing with her son, how luffy shows off his devil fruit powers which only serves to excite the child more and more.
they spend the entire evening playing, laughing, eating and drinking; jinbe’s heart is full at seeing that ace’s legacy has, indeed, passed on — first to luffy, and now to his son. while his father is indefinitely out of the picture, and while the amount of actual blood relatives are far and few between, ace’s son will definitely want for nothing — especially now that kiku is back in her sister’s life. and, for the first time in a long time, luffy feels that small hole in his heart, that he couldn’t quite patch up — even after reuniting with his friends after two years apart — has suddenly healed once he accepted his nephew’s existence in his life.
and, because the threat that once held wano hostage for over two decades has finally been eliminated, the woman can finally see the silver lining to all of this. luffy and his crew promise that once wano’s borders are completely open, that they’ll come back and properly spend more time with them. he’s reluctant to reveal to his grandfather that ace has a child — knowing the sort of turmoil it might give garp with how he failed roger and ace — luffy also can’t not keep that a secret from him. he assures the woman that he’ll leave it up to her, and that while garp does have loyalty to the navy, he’s not exactly loyal to the world government specifically.
the distinction is very important in this situation. he’s all smiles by the time he leaves her home, a few tears collecting around his eyes as he thinks about how ace would’ve felt about being a father. he knows that sabo will most likely be the one that will keep a close watch over their nephew — his reach with the revolutionary army will be key in keeping the child safe — and that life, despite how badly it wants to beat him down, is finally looking upon him favorably. luffy isn’t the sort to dwell on much, but this is something he’ll think about for quite some time.
everyone promises to keep things hush-hush, and surprisingly luffy agrees to not disclose to just anyone the true identity of his nephew’s father.

I just finished the Dressrosa arc and I am still processing it but two things are certain:
I loved it, and
it murdered me in several ways.
The One Piece theme of freedom vs. oppression is really strong in this arc and is infused into every piece of it from start to finish (Law's backstory, Rebecca's story, the Tontattas, everything).
We've seen slavery before in One Piece, and we've seen people be forced or manipulated into servitude (Nami with Arlong was an early example), but Doffy takes it to another level of cruelty in Dressrosa. Like, not only did people get turned into toys and enslaved, but they were also forgotten by everyone who knew them. People were forced to walk around as toys, doing Sugar/Doflamingo's bidding, seeing their loved ones living their lives without even remembering they ever existed. As dystopic horror scenarios go, that's a doozy.
Tumblr media
The Tontattas were also enslaved, but through deception and because Doffy took advantage of their naïve and trusting nature. (Though he also completely underestimated them and how strong they would be if they ever fought back.)
Another recurring One Piece theme is "places that look great on the surface while hiding a cesspool of oppression and poverty beneath", and it's all there in Dressrosa . I mean, ffs, there's a whole secret underground level where toys, people, and Tontattas are forced to slave away, day and night. Sabo and Luffy even comment on the similarities from their childhood town. They know this kind of bullshit-society only too well.
Tumblr media
And everywhere in Dressrosa, Doflamingo is pulling the strings, literally and figuratively. His string-string power to control people's actions directly is a physical manifestation of this, but he also schemes and lies, threatens and deceives in order to manipulate everyone around him. He pulls the strings in Dressrosa, and he pulls the strings in the New World.
Tumblr media
The Arena, the Coliseum, is like small-scale version of Doffy's world. He sets the rules, he imprisons people there, he forces people to fight each other in order to survive, he pits people against each other, and puts on a grand show to make people look away from the real-life horrors in their city. Later, with the birdcage, Doffy turns all of Dressrosa into an Arena and even sets bounties on his opponents in order to make everyone inside the cage turn on each other, so that he can hold on to his power.
It almost works. But then, people start working together and instead of fighting each other, they fight Doflamingo and his crew.
Tumblr media
All those strong fighters Doffy gathered to manipulate into fighting each other for Ace's devilfruit? They start working together. The townspeople work together, the Tontattas work together, the Straw Hats work together, everyone works together, and this is what really defeats Doflamingo in the end.
Yes, Luffy is the key, but the story is careful to show us that Luffy would not have been able to do it without help. The Straw Hats defeat the Doflamingo execs, Law buys Luffy a whole lot of time with his Gamma Knife attack, Sabo is crucial, the fighters buy Luffy time by banding together, Rebecca and Viola risk their lives by confronting Doflamingo, Franky and the Tontattas push the factory to slow down the contracting birdcage, Barto uses his barrier and has everyone help him hold the cage back, and so on...
Tumblr media
Even Gatz helps by keeping Luffy safe while his haki recharges. Without their help, Luffy would not have been able to win.
And all of that, the fact that he needs help, is not a sign that Luffy is weak. Rather (and this is another recurring theme in One Piece) it's further proof of Luffy's real power (maybe his most dangerous one as Mihawk remarked at Marineford): making friends wherever he goes, and getting people to rally to his side. (For example, if Fujitora hadn't bent Luffy's way, even while pretending he didn't, things would have been a lot worse.)
So in this arc we get Doflamingo, who wants to control and manipulate everyone and everything all the time; fighting against Luffy who just wants people to think for themselves (like he tells Rebecca when he breaks her out of the palace), and please please please not ask him to tell them what to do.
The scene with the Grand Fleet when Luffy tells them that he doesn't want to be someone important; he just wants to be the Pirate King is so awesome in this context, even as it confounds everyone around him (except the Straw Hats, who know Luffy better than anyone.)
Tumblr media
Anyway. I loved this arc, and another theme it highlights is that there's nothing like the power of friendship. Right, Law?

One Piece chapter 1100 review
We know that aside from 100 and 1000, Oda's never really written around milestones, but you still generally find something that feels like a big step on each hundred chapters. While we have a pretty damn good chapter of One Piece this week, I don't think there's anything that really qualifies it as a giant leap forward for the story. Maybe all the classic Warlord cameos are meant to feel like the reward for the big eleven-hundred. Maybe, given that the celebratory colour spread is slated for next issue, the big moment missed by one. Or maybe that's just because of how Jump's scheduling panned out and I'm overthinking the whole thing.
There's an irony in Borsalino, in the opening pages, contrasting the climates of Egghead and Punk Hazard. He thinks Egghead's so much colder, but give it a few years and Punk Hazard will be half frozen over and Egghead will be fully climate controlled.
There's a lot of characterisation on show in this first scene. Vegapunk is painfully naive in failing to check for bugs in his lab, and this still won't teach him not to trust the Government. Borsalino has a laid-back and personable demeanour at a glance, but he'll do his job if he has to. And Kuma. Poor, well-meaning Kuma, loses all sense of perspective where his daughter is concerned. I don't think he heard a single word that wasn't about Bonney, even as Saturn offers him basically the worst terms ever. There's a comparison to be made in Kuma's reaction throughout the scene to Hancock asking Luffy to choose between freeing his friends and getting a boat. That same misdirect on what the initial reaction means and the laser focus on the people who need saving at the expense of all else. Except Luffy's version played out in his favour whereas Kuma… well, we're in a One Piece flashback, so you do the math.
Saturn's character is also front and center here. It's that he's a bastard, all pragmatic and cruel.
I really enjoyed the montage of treatments, slice of life scenes and construction work to show the passage of time here. There's some nice fanservice in seeing the (probable) moment the Vegaclones were conceived, and Vegapunk leveraging more underworld connections that would have to go back to his MADS days, this time with Storage King Umit. It's cool that all the underworld figures from Big Mom's party keep sticking their heads up to connect corners of the world.
There's some wonderfully nostalgic fanservice seeing all the classic Warlords and a few others reacting Kuma being commissioned into their number. Curious that Doflamingo, proclaimed "champion of evil" sees another miscreant in Kuma, buying into the hype completely. Having been involved in World Government info tampering personally, and setting records straight with his crew on the fall of Flevance, you'd think he'd at least acknowledge the possibility of spin on Kuma's story. I wonder if the apparent interest in another outright bad guy in the crew ever lead Doflamingo to reach out to Kuma. It might explain them turning up to the meeting together back when they were both first introduced.
An Ace appearance is always welcome. We knew he was offered a Warlord spot, but I think it's new info that he toppled one before that. This is a little bit of a lesson in taking spin-off material as fully canon, because like, you'd think that event would warrant at least a mention in Ace's novel or its manga adaptation. You know if they'd waited a few years and done those today the authors would be asking Oda for an original design for the beaten Warlord and making the encounter into at least a small scene if not the whole story, and its absence makes those volumes feel all the more secondary in retrospect.
Jinbe noting the growing political power of the Warlords is also a touch I like. We've known about powerful figures abusing the Warlord system for their own schemes almost as long as we've had One Piece, but I get the sense that the first generation legitimately acted as privateers and over time more and more people with things to hide have forced their way in. The group becomes both more dangerous and harder to control.
It is adorable that Kuma uses Bonney's drawing as his jolly roger. No notes, just a great touch. You can really see how thin his commitment to being a marauder is. Also, is that a bear ear on the side of his ship? Maybe we all figured as far back as Sabaody there would be more layers to Kuma, but I doubt anyone expected him to do something that cute, especially with his imposing first impression.
There is a strange current of speculation online that Kuma has been sent to Windmill Village to deal with Luffy or something similar in the last page. Are we not paying enough attention to see that Kuma is already there when the orders come in. Whatever the Government wants (if the orders matter to the story and aren't an excuse for him to namedrop his location) it doesn't seem to have anything to do with our protagonist. But maybe I shouldn't get too high and mighty - getting orders relating to something on the island he just happens to be stopping at for a resupply or whatever is definitely not too much of a coincidence for Oda, so we'll see next week what the deal with all of this is.
Next week, no matter what, we're somewhere in vol 109, and I think we have to start building up to the climax of this flashback. Right now, it feels like there's something missing for the ending, a factor we don't know about yet. Kuma losing his will wasn't a shocking betrayal, it was a deal he walked into willingly. In fact, it feels like we prettymuch know it all - he spends some time as a Warlord, is made fully into a weapon at the time the Pacifistas are first deployed. Maybe he's able to leverage that final request to defend the Sunny because Bonney had already escaped and the Government was wary of him running off with all that tech and became more pliable to his requests (or Vegapunk liked him enough to go behind his bosses' backs). Mission complete, he's made a slave until the Revolutionaries grab him and run, and we're basically up to the present. It would be anticlimactic to just play all that out in fast forward, so I think Oda's going to work some kind of a stinger in there. Probably something to tie into how and why he's awakened to himself and begun rampaging while the Egghead Arc happens.
Looking forward to colour pages after quite a few chapters without, and for a final surprise gut punch to put the cherry on top of one of the series' darkest and most effective flashbacks.

Astra! Congratulations, dear! I'm so proud of you 😭🥰
So, is it alright if I request for a Royalty!au with Bandit!Ace and Princess!Reader with multi-purpose prompt #7 (fluff) and fluff prompt #2? And can you based it on Aladdin?? Thank you~
Keep up the good work Astra!
Warnings: none
Word Count: 1500
So the overall story is only loosely based on Aladdin, I hope that’s okay.
Being a princess was boring. No, that wasn’t entirely true, being a princess was boring and annoying! Listening to the latest prince prattle on about you didn’t care what had you ready to stab the man, rolling your eyes as you did your best to ignore him.
“Well, Princess? I don’t have all day. Are you going to marry me or not?” the stuck up boy demanded. Prince Stelly, some ugly loser from you didn’t care where.
“Oh, I would, Prince Stelly, but you see, there’s a problem.” you feigned, giving him a clearly fake sympathetic look, the boy tilting his head to the side.
“You see, I just can’t marry you, you’re already married to your own ego.” you said, keeping the same ‘innocent’ yet mocking tone, watching as the man glared, face reddening with anger, “Moreover, how could I possibly marry someone whose head is that far up his own ass.” you added, only to turn back around and stare out at the pond in the castle gardens, ignoring the dumb prince as he stormed away. Fuck, you hated princes. You hated princes, you hated this castle, you hated being royalty. You ripped the tiara off your head, glaring at it before throwing it at the pond, spinning around and walking away as it sank into the water.
It was dark out before you managed to make it over the palace walls, or under them as the case happened to be, slipping out though a small crack. As far as you knew, the only person aware of this oversight was you, meaning it was the perfect escape. The question was, was it going to be temporary or permanent?
Ace grinned as he bit into an apple, leaning against an alley wall as people wandered the streets. It was late, so there weren’t many, but there were a few. A sparkle caught the young man’s attention, eyes darting to a female form hidden under a black cloak. More important, was the jewelry she was wearing. Shiny pieces like that could feed him, Sabo, and Luffy for weeks. In an instant, Ace seemed to disappear into the small trickle of people on the street, carefully making his way over to the young woman.
You felt a snap from your neck, your eyes widening as a figure bolted away.
“HEY! Don’t think I'm letting you get away with that!” you shouted, giving chase. That was your grandmother’s necklace and you’d be damned if you let anyone take it. You might be a princess, but you weren’t a princess who was going to take shit from anybody and you weren’t a princess who didn’t know how to run! That being said, whoever this thief was, he was good, weaving through the streets and alleyways until you knew that you’d have no way of finding your way back with ease. But that didn’t matter, all that mattered was your necklace. It was a short while later that you managed to finally tackle the tall figure, the cloaked man stumbling just long enough for you to catch him.
“Give it back!” you shouted, pulling his cloak back and reaching into any pockets you could find. To hell with being polite or what you should or shouldn't do, that was your treasured necklace!
“Whoa, whoa, calm down. I know I’m hot, but we’re in a dirty alleyway.” the young man joked as you continued searching him.
“I don’t care about some dirty thief, all I care about is my grandmother’s necklace!” you shouted at him, dumping the contents of his pouch out.
“Hey! I’m not dirty and I’m not ‘some thief’.” the boy said as your necklace finally fell out of the pouch, your hands scrambling to grab it and hold it close.
“You are a thief, you just stole my necklace, and yes, you are dirty, you’re covered in dirt.” you spat, getting off the man, still eyeing him warily.
“I’m only covered in dirt because you tackled me and if I’d known it was sentimental, I would’ve stolen something else.” he argued, crossing his arms.
“Then you’re still a thief!” you exclaimed, glaring at him.
“But I’m not some thief. The name’s Portgas D. Ace, greatest and oldest of the best thieves in the city.” the boy, Ace, proclaimed proudly.
“So not just a thief, but the leader of thieves, little more than a bandit.” you hissed, glaring at him. Ace took a step back, you weren’t afraid, you weren’t surprised, you were… angry.
“Yes… and I could easily take you down if need be.” he said, watching you warily. You took a few steps forward, eyes carefully watching each other.
“Can you take me away from here?” you asked suddenly, hands clasped together, catching Ace off guard.
“W-what? What do you mean ‘take you away’? Take you away from what?” Ace asked, watching as you sighed exasperatedly.
“This… place! All my life I’ve been trapped here, unable to go anywhere, unable to do anything! This is the first time I’ve gone out and I want more!” you said, turning back to him, “Show me more.” you pleaded. Ace smirked, taking one of your hands, dragging you along behind him, the both of you smiling.
Standing on the top of a large, old tower, you gasped. You could see the entire city from here and while the palace had always been your prison, the way it shone in the moonlight was stunning.
“It’s… it looks so beautiful from here.” you breathed, staring out at the view.
“There’s only one thing I’ve ever seen that surpasses its beauty.” Ace said, staring out at the sights before looking back at you as you tilted your head to the side.
“What’s that? Could we go see it sometime?” you asked, the curious look on your face making Ace flush slightly.
“W-well, I don’t know about you, but I can see it right now. Beautiful, sparkling gemstones that seem deeper than the ocean, the most beautiful, softest silks that seem to cascade like waves.” Ace breathed, taking a step closer. His hand caressed your cheek as you realized what he was talking about, “Every bit as soft as I thought it would be.” your breath caught in your throat as he leaned in, your eyes closing, waiting to feel his lips on yours, something you were granted a moment later, his chapped lips pressed against yours
Legs pulled close to your body, you looked out at the castle gardens. He’d been taken from you, Akainu Sakazuki, why had he been there? Why hadn’t they listened to you? Why was your father saying that it would be okay? You’d since locked yourself in your room, furniture pulled up to block your door and spikes made of broken wood surrounding your balcony. You wouldn’t let anyone come near. Not until something changes, until something was fixed. Wiping some tears away, you headed back inside, slamming the balcony doors shut behind you. No one would see you. If they refused to let you see Ace, then you would refuse to see them. It was days later, holding an apple in your hands that you heard a knock on your balcony door. Looking up, your eyes widened, scrambling towards your balcony, flinging the doors wide.
“ACE!” you cried, throwing your arms around the boy, “What happened? Why are you on my balcony… what are you wearing?” you asked, looking at the rather nice clothes he wore.
“It’s a really long story, but I’m uh…” Ace took a deep breath, trying to find the right words. Talking to you when you were just Y/n, the girl who chased him down over a necklace was easy, but now you were Princess Y/n, only daughter of the king, “I know we haven’t known each other for terribly long but I just… I wanted to sa-mmph!” you cut the boy off, your lips pressed against his. That first night when he’d kissed you, you knew that you loved him, spending days without him only for him to reappear like this only strengthened your feelings for him. Pulling back you smiled at him.
“I love you, Ace.” you whispered, holding him close. Ace was silent for a moment, simply staring at you
“I love you too, Y/n… Fuck, I love you so much, do you still want me to take you away?” Ace asked, smiling when you nodded.
“Alright, hold on tight and don’t scream.” Ace said, wrapping one arm around your waist. The fire that burst from Ace’s body had you gasping in surprise as he used the flames to slow your descent from your balcony.
“Do you still trust me, Princess?” Ace asked, his smile widening when you nodded.
“Then let’s go, we’ll run away and be free together.” he said, pulling you out of the palace, out of the palace grounds, and out of the kingdom. You might become a bandit, but so long as Ace was by your side, that’s all that mattered.

His Legacy (Chapter 2)
One Piece Male Reader Insert
Chapter Summary: You spend time with your adoptive family until someone ruins it.
Masterlist
Warnings: None
A/N: I really like this chapter tbh. I’m planning to do some things with Rain Island later lol.
Word Count: 4.7k
Tumblr media
        You had traveled to some of the nearby islands, looking for business. When it had been three days and you still hadn’t gotten any calls from people wanting your business (you did get a few calls from Luffy, however, who told you a peculiar story about massive ship falling out of the sky), you took that as an opportunity to go visit a nearby island and relax. Although you were normally rather unsocial, you still enjoyed interacting with the people at this particular island. They were always kind and welcoming towards you, inviting you to enjoy their culture and festivities. This was also the island where your family lived.
        Rummaging through your pile of clean clothes, you were able to find something that you wanted to wear- black dress pants, a (unstained) white button down shirt, and a black silk tie that you haven’t worn yet. You slipped on your gold rings and carefully inserted your piercings again. Your Gran had once told you that you should always dress to impress and you took her words to heart. You never left your island without your jewelry and a nice tie. You didn’t know if you were impressing anyone, but you liked to think that you at least gave off the impression of someone who was strong, capable, and powerful. With some of the people you worked with, you couldn’t appear as anything less.
        There was one person that especially could never see you as less than perfect, and that was Donquixote Doflamingo (or Joker, as you were supposed to refer to him by). He claimed that you were the best of the best, the crème of the crop, and would frequently ask for your help when his “family” was too spread out. The only benefit was that he always, without fail, paid you handsomely for your time and work. You have never failed at a job he had given you. You couldn’t if you didn’t want him to ruin your life.
       He was the reason why you couldn’t join Ace on Whitebeard’s ship. He was too unpredictable and he knew too much about you.
       You grabbed two of your flintlock pistols and set out for your small sailboat, which you had dragged inland. There were no docks at your nameless island, so this was the best you could do.
       You were heading to a neighboring island named Rain. Rain was easily one of your favorite places; the natural beauty of the semi-tropical island always left you feeling refreshed and at peace. You loved relaxing in the rainforest in the center of the island, listening to the sounds of the wild. You’ve protected this sacred place for the past 10 years (and you did it better than the stationed Marines, despite only going there once every few months), so you were treated as a local hero. It was a place where you felt accepted and it made you happy. You never conducted your usual business on this island- you refused to taint it with your filth.
        As your sailboat smoothly sailed across the gentle waves, you caught sight of the island. It wasn’t far from your island- it took you about 20-30 minutes to get there, and you were an extremely talented sailor on top of that. The weather was always wonderful in this part of the New World- the sun tenderly kissed your skin and shined brightly in your jewelry while the wind played in your hair. The clouds that formed around these islands were always gorgeous, too. Big, grey, and fluffy, they would provide your island and Rain with nightly storms.
        As you got closer to the emerald island, you took note of the giant tree that sprouted from the very center of the landmass- an Adam tree, as you had come to learn. It was the people’s pride and joy. They had been growing this tree and keeping it healthy for centuries. They never allowed outsiders to get near it in fear that it would be destroyed, but they had made an exception for you. Up close, it was majestic.
        You could also hear music, which got louder and louder as you approached until you finally docked your boat at the town named Downpour. It took a few moments for the townsfolk started to take notice of you standing on the outskirts of their town, occupied with dancing and feasting, but once the mayor spotted you and called your name out joyously, everyone’s attention was on you.
        People cheered your name as you approached, some offering you goods while others complimented you. A group of small children ran up to you to meet you, grabbing your limbs and pulling you every which way. You laughed, flashing the townsfolk a bright smile. “Hi, everyone!”
        The mayor, Mr. Child, stumbled in your direction, cheeks flushed from alcohol he had clearly been drinking. “Welcome back, (Name)! You came at the perfect time! The Rain Festival just started!”
        You laughed, one of your arms coming up to sheepishly rub the back of your neck. “Good afternoon, sir. I hope I’m not interrupting anything important?”
        He hiccuped and he shook his head as a wide, toothy smile spread across his plump face. “No, not at all! Please, join the festivities!”
        “(Name)! (Name)! You have to come with me, I know where all the best food stands are!” A young girl cut in with a whine as she clung onto your inked arm.
        Before you could reply, the small boy hanging onto your leg yelled, “NO, Jasmine!! (Name) is coming with ME to play all the games! And he’s going to WIN ALL OF THEM!”
        “No, Ori, Mama wanted me to bring (Name) home the next time he came to town so she could give him a gift.” The biggest kid chimed, placing his hands on his hips. He wasn’t clinging to you like the other two, but he wanted you to come with him. His younger siblings’ behavior annoyed him a bit, but he could understand where they were coming from. “You haven’t been home in months! We were worried!”
        “Sorry, Falth,” you apologized sheepishly. “I’ve been a bit busy. Why don’t we go see Ma first, then we can eat all the food and play all the fun games?” You compromised, trying to prevent the almost inevitable fight.
        The trio paused for a moment as they thought about it before all simultaneously nodding in agreement. Ori, Jasmine, and Falth were siblings, and you were their older brother. They lived with their mom and grandma on the edge of the town, somewhat in the rainforest. You had unofficially been adopted by their mom, Leoa, who despite not knowing much about you, always welcomed you with open arms and treated you as her own. Without her, Pa, and Gran, you definitely would’ve been a lot more socially stunted than you already were. Gran and Ma had taught you how to read and write, provided you with a basic education, taught you basic manners, while Pa was the one who taught you how to fight and use Haki.
        You appreciated everything they did for you.
        You allowed yourself to be dragged around Downpour by Falth, observing all the ongoing festivities as Ori and Jasmine ran beside you. Despite coming to this island for years, you had managed to never come during this particular festival. The packed streets were lined with booths from one end to the other, selling everything from booze to souvenirs. You noticed a few of the game booths Ori had mentioned- games where you threw things into narrow bottles, games where you tried to collect toy Sea Kings from the water with a net, and some shooting games, to name a few. There was a stage in the middle of the town square with a band of five playing lively music. All the buildings had strings of blue, green, and yellow paper lanterns and sea glass, which lead you to think that the Rain Festival went into the night. You also saw some people you didn’t recognize among the large crowd of people surrounding the booths and stage.
        Faces, old and new, approached you casually, asking you how you you were doing, what you had been up to for the past three months that you were gone, and presenting you with things they were selling. You had politely cut all conversations short, explaining how you needed to meet with some people at the edge of town.
        Whispers and rumors swirled around you and into your ears. “Isn’t that the same (Name) that’s a mercenary?” “I heard he took on two whole crew of pirates at the same time and came out unscathed! And all by himself!” “Is he here to target someone?” “Why is he around those kids?”
        You turned to Jasmine, who was on your left. “What’s the point of this festival?” You asked bluntly, trying to distract yourself from the voices.
        She instantly perked up, and with a bring gleam in her eye, she began to explain; “We have this festival every year to celebrate the nightly rain that helps the Adam tree! Our island would be a desert if it stopped raining. At the end of the festival, the next Protector will be chosen.”
        “It goes on for three days straight!” Ori cut in, a smug look across his face. “We party all day and all night, especially in the rain! And we get to eat special food and we wear special clothes at night!”
        “ORI!!” Jasmine yelled as she hit Ori upside the head. “(Name) wanted me to tell him, not you.”
        You broke yourself out of Falth’s grip and placed your large hands on their heads, ruffling their dark blue hair roughly with a playful smirk. “Don’t fight each other. Family is important- you should always love each other and get along.”
        Falth, having finally taken notice of his siblings arguing, stepped in. “(Name)’s right, y’know!” Hands on his hips and tanned cheeks slightly puffed, he reiterated something their mother had always said, “We’re family, so we have to treat each other with respect.”
       With one look, anyone who had known him could tell that Falth was the spitting image of his father- dark hair, tanned skin, and deep green eyes, while Jasmine and Ori resembled their mother with her dark blue hair and light blue eyes. When their father had died six months ago, Falth was the one who stepped up, trying to act more mature and nurture his siblings the way their father had despite only being 15.
        It should’ve been you who stepped up. You were 20, you should’ve finally settled down in Downpour to take care of this family who cared so much for you, to live a peaceful life, but you couldn’t. You’re selfish. You couldn't be happy if you stayed in one place for too long.
        You worked too hard to flush your happiness down the drain like that. It killed you inside to know that you were part of the reason why Falth had to grow up so fast, but you didn’t regret your decision.
        Realizing you had slightly spaced out while the siblings were arguing, you focused back on the three of them, who were now wrestling on the ground. You facepalmed, slightly annoyed with them and yourself, for letting it get this bad. You could feel the peering eyes of the tourists, people who were not familiar with these siblings, judge you as you picked them all up and shoved them under your arms. Although they could not continue their physical fight, it did not stop them from verbally berating each other. You booked it for the house at the edge of the forest, trying not to run over anyone.
        “You suck, Jasmine! Big stupidhead!”
        “Shut up! You suck way more! I’d rather eat dirt than get along with you!”
        “Both of you, be quiet! You’re so stupid! I can’t stand either of you!”
        You rolled your eyes before promptly stopping and dropping the three of them onto the worn dirty path in front of the small off-white house, following it up with a swift hit on the head for each three of them.
        “OW!”
        “Can you three get along for at least five minutes?” You frowned at them, making your irritation apparent. You walked inside before they could say anything else, but you could hear them groaning in pain through the heavy wood door.
        Before you could even open your mouth to announce your presence, you were jumped by two smaller figures- your Ma and Gran- grabbing onto your torso and pulling you down to their level.
        “I knew he would come sometime this week! I can always feel it in these old bones of mine!”
        “Yeah, yeah, whatever, Mom. You’re always right. Who cares? My oldest baby is home!”
        Leoa was a tall woman, reaching roughly 6’3 in height, yet you could still see over her head of dark blue hair; Gran, on the other hand, was very short, not even 5’0. Her short grey hair was all you could see unless she turned her head up to look at you. Her calloused and wrinkly pair of hands grasped your face and pet your shaggy (color) hair affectionately.
        “Your baby? No, this is my sweet grandson.” Gran pulled away to study you with her sharp blue eyes, looking you up and down. “Oh, my dear, have you grown out your hair? Do you need a haircut? Are you hungry? Here, let me get you some food.”
        “Calm down, Gran, I just got here. I’m fine.” You gently pulled out of her grasp and ended up in the arms of Ma, who gave you a suffocating hug.
        “Oh, we missed you so much, (Name)! You need to come visit us more often.” A large grin graced her sun kissed face as she smothered you. There was never a doubt in your mind that this family loved you, but sometimes it was too much for you to handle. You tried pulling away again, a small, awkward smile on your face, but your siblings, who recovered from their punishment and gotten inside, joined in the love fest.
        “We brought him home, just like you asked!” Falth cheered as he threw his arms around your leg.
        “Yeah! Yeah!” Chorused Ori and Jasmine, who had both taken ahold of your arms that you foolishly forgot to safely tuck away.
        “Now he can come to the festival with us! And eat all the food! And win all the games!”
         At this point, you were definitely getting overwhelmed, the awkward smile shifting into something more uncomfortable, and luckily for you, Gran noticed. Yanking you out of the grasp of the four clingier family members by your back of your shirt, she successfully freed you, leaving the other four to fall on the ground.
        “Alright, that’s enough. We don’t want to scare (Name) away for another three months, do we?” Although her tone was lighthearted, you could see panic quickly flood the eyes of your siblings. You inwardly flinched and shifted your eyes for a brief moment, which Ma just had to notice. She sent you a gentle look before changing the subject
        “Oh, (Name), I have a gift for you.” She mentioned suddenly, rising up from the floor and walking to one of the two rooms on the bottom floor of the house. “I think you’ll like it,” she added.
        The house was old, at least 130 years old, from what Gran told you, and you could definitely see the age. Withered, dull wallpaper covered the walls in the living room and five bedrooms, begging to be removed and replaced. The wood floors were worn down from years of walking, with the odd squeaky floorboards ever present. The stairs leading up the second floor had to have a few carpet-covered steps replaced, which gave it a somewhat strange look. The kitchen and bathrooms had all been updated as to not cause any health issues- beautiful stone countertops and porcelain toilets were implemented around 20 years ago. But despite all that, it was obvious that the house was loved.
        The outside, however, was a different story. Because Gran was too old and Ma was usually too busy with her restaurant, twisting vines took over the majority of the house, changing the color from a lively off-white to a wild dark green. Ma didn’t want any of your siblings to try and clear off the vines out of fear that they would fall, but you knew Falth tried to clean off what he could reach.
        Gran and Falth had moved to the living room to fold laundry while Ori and Jasmine play wrestled on the decorative rug that covered the floor. You were still in the entryway, so you decided to join Falth and Gran with the laundry until Ma returned.
        “So,” Gran started quietly, picking up a small green tank top that read “APPLE OF MY EYE” and handing it to Falth. “How has work been lately? And your ‘friend’?”
        You kept a neutral expression as you replied, equally as quiet, “Are you sure we should talk about my line of work with Ori and Jasmine so close by? I don’t want them to know what I do.”
        “So what if they do? I know, Ma knows, Gran knows, and that hasn’t changed anything. It’s not like they’ll care. They really look up to you. I don’t think you could do anything to change that, (Name),” Falth pointed out with a smile as he folded the shirt and passed it to you. “Plus, I want to hear about that pirate!”
        You let out a snort of amusement before placing the shirt into a large wicker basket. “So that’s why you’re so adamant? Couldn’t get enough of Ace when I brought him over last year?”
        “How could we?” Gran chuckled, this time picking up a bright yellow blouse. “He was quite the funny young man.”
        “I mean, who falls asleep in the middle of eating dinner? That was hilarious! He was a total weirdo!”
        You lightly punched Falth in the shoulder, a rare smile taking over your face. “Hey now, that weirdo’s a good friend of mine. I can’t have you going around and tarnishing his good name.”
        “He’s a pirate- good names exist for no such person.” Gran stated playfully. “And fold that shirt already, Falth.”
        “But Gran,” Falth sighed before complying. “He was a good person. I mean, if you’re friends with him, (Name), he couldn’t be that bad, right?”
        “Have you forgotten our history with pirates? Your history with pirates, Falth?” Gran hissed quietly, an tense silence overtaking the three of you.
        You suddenly felt really awkward and out of place as the three of you folded pairs of underwear and children’s t-shirts in silence. At least Ori and Jasmine had not taken notice and continued to grunt and roughhouse.
        Although you were the unofficial “guardian” of Rain Island, you weren’t always able to be there. Marines were stationed in a town close to Downpour, named Thunder, but it still left Downpour vulnerable. And some pirates had taken advantage of that six months ago. A deep frown settled on your lips. Once again, thoughts of inadequacy and failure flooded your head. If only you had settled down…
        “Here we are!” Ma broke the silence as she came back from the storage room with two boxes under her arm. “Ori, Jasmine, why don’t you go upstairs and play? You’re making a mess.”
        “But Ma!” They whined simultaneously as they paused their match.
        “I wasn’t asking. Go upstairs.” Ma shook her head before giving them a very exaggerated exasperated look. “It’s boring adult time. Let us suffer in peace. I’ll call you down when it’s time to give (Name) his gift, then we can go to the festival to eat dinner.”
        That seemed to do the trick as the two younger children ran upstairs before Ma could even finish speaking. “You too, Falth.” Ma added on, pointing to the stairs behind her back. That’s how you knew this was something about your line of work. Although Falth knew some things about what you did, he did not know the full extent of it like Ma and Gran did.
        Falth was about to argue, but you held up a hand, stopping them both. “He can stay. It’s fine. He’s grown enough to know about it.”
        Ma raised an eyebrow before taking a seat next to Falth, boxes still in hand. “Well, if you say so, (Name).”
        “This one is your actual gift,” Ma explained with a small smile, handing you a large box made out of a deep mahogany wood. “It’s something that I’ve wanted you to have for a while now, but haven’t gotten the chance to give to you.”
        She then held up the smaller, decorated box. “This one is for you to open when I call Ori and Jasmine back down. They picked something out for you.”
        You hummed in agreement as you took both boxes from her, setting them carefully on your lap. Before you could open the wooden box, Gran spoke.
        “We know we can’t quell your wanderlust and thirst for adventure, but we want you to have these; at least you’ll always have a part of us with you. Your life and the people you work with are dangerous, and we know it’s even more dangerous to associate with you as a mercenary, but we love you, (Name). Proll wanted you to have these when he died.”
        With that, you opened the box to see your late adoptive father’s twin flintlock pistols. Your eyes slightly widened as you took your gifts into your hands. They felt solid, cold, and heavy, like blocks of ice in your hands. Unlike the two silver single-barreled pistols you already had, these were made of ivory and bronze and were triple-barreled. There were intricate carvings along the ivory butt and hammer of the gun- beautiful swirls that were made by only a master. They simultaneously looked decorative and deadly.
        You looked back up in slight shock, giving Gran and Ma a dumbfounded look. Falth was equally as surprised as you, it seemed, as his mouth was fully agape.
        “There’s no way I can accept this.” You finally muttered, putting the pistols back in the box and pushing them away. “I am the last person who should have these.”
        “But (Name)!” Falth cried, eyebrows furrowed. “Pa loved you! He wanted you to have those! He always talked about how you would put them to good use!”
        “He’s right, dear,” Gran spoke up. “You were Proll’s pride and joy. If anyone where to take them, it should be you.”
        You flinched and looked away, grimacing. “But-“
        “He was never mad at you. Never upset. He was proud of you for living your life.” Ma commented as she pushed the box back into your hands. “Of course, he wanted you to be a Marine, but he didn’t care when you told him you were a mercenary.You and him were so similar. Please, (Name), take them. If not for him, then for us. We want you to be safe.”
        “Please, (Name)!” Falth begged. You looked him in the eye, studying him. Despite Proll being his biological father, Falth was not upset in the slightest that his father wanted you to have his pistols instead of him. Falth wanted you to have his pistols instead of him. There was not a hint of jealousy in his earnest, kind eyes that looked so much like his father’s. You looked back down at the beautiful pistols and sighed.
        “Are you positive you want me to have these?” You asked one last time, already knowing what the answer would be.
        “It’s not like you to be so hesitant.” Gran chuckled. “Of course we’re positive.”
        “Here,” Ma called, offering you two leather holsters that matched the two you were currently wearing. She was smiling. Falth was smiling, and so was Gran.
        Your shoulders sank as you gave in, taking the holsters, attaching them to your belt, and carefully inserting the pistols. You checked them over, making sure they had the safety on before covering your weapons with your shirt again. You smiled. “I’ll make sure to use and take care of these two. I’ll make Pa proud again.”
         “Now with that out of the way, let’s call down those two brats and carry on with our night! Haha!” Ma hooted joyously before pulling you all into a hug. “Jasmine! Ori! Come on down!”
—————————————————————
        You had a wonderful rest of your day. The present that Ori and Jasmine had gotten for you was a fruit basket, full of your favorites and some fruits you had never tried before. You happily ate them all in one sitting before going to the festival. You won multiple game prizes for Ori, bought and shared food Jasmine, and carried Falth around on your shoulders while you ran around. If someone like Jerus ever saw you acting like this, you don’t think you could’ve ever lived it down. You’d probably have to kill yourself. Your reputation would be totally ruined.
        But luckily for you, they weren’t here. Jerus was somewhere in Marine headquarters, probably doing something boring while you laughed and played in the twilight. Having this kind of freedom was wonderful.
        Soon, the rain would fall, and the festivities would peak. You could smell it coming as the sky darkened quickly. A tarp was set up over the band, which had swapped with the previous band about an hour ago. All the lanterns strung around the town were lit, the light reflecting off of the sea glass tied next to the lanterns and created beautiful colored light on the ground. Some people had already went inside for the night, but there were still plenty of partygoers present. Alcohol booths were the most popular at the moment, since most of the children were asleep now.
        Gran, Ori, and Jasmine were in the group of people who had left early. They had gotten worn out and decided to sleep while you, Ma, and Falth decided to stick around a while longer. Currently, you were enjoying some kind of chocolate-based custard at a booth that was off to the side, somewhat far from the festivities.
        “- and then Jasmine pulled out the biggest bug I’ve ever seen! You should’ve seen the look on Ori’s face!” Falth laughed, recalling a story that you hadn’t heard yet.
        You laughed along with him. “I can imagine it!”
        Ma gently laughed along with you before looking up at the sky. “I think it’s about to start. We should get going- we don’t want to miss the big dance after the Protector is picked.”
        “Good idea,” Falth nodded, getting up and throwing away his trash. “Are you coming, (Name)?”
        “No, this is where I say goodbye for tonight.” You replied, remaining seated. “I’m going to go back for seconds before heading home.”
        “Alright, (Name), if you say so. We’ll see you tomorrow, then?” Ma asked, already walking away.
        “We’ll see.” You called back, a more serious look replacing your previously joyful one once their backs were turned.
        Rain started to fall soon after they left. You closed your eyes, enjoying the feeling of the cold droplets falling on your skin. You walked around the outskirts of the town, far from where everyone else was located, barely being able to hear the music or see the lights. The tranquility of the moment was ruined by the sound of your transponder snail.
        “Purupurupuru… Purupurupuru… Ca-cha.”
        “Who is it?” You asked, annoyance seeping into your voice. You immediately regretted it upon hearing the voice on the other side.
        “That wasn’t very nice of you. Is that any way to speak to your friend, Dark Stalker (Name)?”
         Doflamingo had called you.

[ Read on AO3 | WCI agenda | Ko-Fi ]
----------
As he stared up at the person standing in front of him, Luffy frowned, wondering what was even going on. Getting basically kidnapped in the middle of a fight with that dinosaur lady aside, Luffy couldn’t wrap his head around anything this person was saying.
First, he announces he's Kaido’s son, now he’s suddenly Kozuki Oden. It didn’t make any sense and Luffy didn’t exactly have the time for any of this anyway. He needed to get out there and kick Kaido’s ass like he damn well deserved, not sit here and listen to some guy go on and on about something as stupid as this. Seriously, what did ‘I became Kozuki Oden’ even mean?
Yamato did sound genuine in his admiration of the man while bragging about his journal, however, and Luffy could respect that—though he really wouldn’t have expected to find someone who would want to assume their father’s dead enemy’s identity.
There really were all kinds of people out there, weren’t there?
But then all thoughts went out the window with Yamato’s next words. “You remind me of Ace!”
Luffy’s heart skipped a beat at the mention of his brother’s name. He didn’t hear that wrong, did he?
“You know Ace?!” he asked, eyes wide.
“Yeah!” Yamato’s smile grew the slightest bit as he nodded in affirmation. He was quiet for a few seconds, looking lost in thought; maybe remembering the time he had spent with Ace. “He talked a lot about you.”
Hearing him say that, Luffy blinked up at Yamato a few times, trying to tell if he was lying, but seeing only sincerity in those eyes, Luffy’s gaze dropped down again. “I see…” he said quietly, biting on his bottom lip to keep it from shaking.
He wasn’t sure what he was supposed to think. What he was supposed to feel in that moment.
First and foremost, he was surprised. Surprised, because someone else knew Ace, someone he would least expect. Maybe he should have seen it coming; he knew Ace had come to the country before—Tama’s tears and fists upon hearing the news of his death had made that perfectly clear—and if he knew his brother at all, he wouldn’t have just left the country without coming to Onigashima. It wouldn’t have been that strange for him to run into Kaido’s son while at it. Yet, it wasn’t something Luffy would have thought to learn here.
After the surprise was… sadness.
During the two years after the war, he had come to terms with the fact he had lost his brother, made peace with knowing he had been too weak to save him. But that peace didn’t mean it didn’t hurt. It probably always would but there was nothing he could do; nothing beside getting stronger, strong enough to not lose anyone else he cared about.
But, beyond all that…
Luffy was happy. So incredibly happy.
There wasn’t just Sabo and him. There wasn’t just Ace’s old crew. There were still more people who had memories of Ace, who knew and remembered him for who he really was. Not the Pirate King’s son but the man Ace wanted to be remembered as. People who loved him.
People Luffy had never met, but who knew about Luffy.
“He talked about me,” Luffy mumbled to himself, feeling a smile pull on his lips.
Yamato huffed at that. “More like he wouldn’t shut up about you! His bragging was really annoying, to be honest.”
There were no negative feelings in Yamato’s words; instead, his voice was shaking with amusement and such fondness that it made Luffy finally look up at him again.
As soon as their eyes met, Yamato smiled. “That’s why I wanted to meet you. I’m really glad you’re here, Straw Hat Luffy.”
Only the distant shouts of Yamato’s name could be heard while Luffy and Yamato simply looked at each other in silence for a moment, mutual understanding between them.
“Alright so what’s this about you being Oden? You’re down to two minutes!” Luffy announced finally, shoving two of his fingers in Yamato’s face.
“WHAT?! That’s not fair! You spent most of that time staring off into space!” Yamato shouted back, pointing at Luffy accusingly.
Luffy crossed his arms over his chest, scowling at Yamato. “I don’t care! We’re wasting time here while everyone is fighting!”
Yamato blinked at him once, twice, before hissing, “You’re impossible!”
“One and a half minute,” Luffy replied, giving Yamato an unimpressed stare.
He wasn’t even counting the time, couldn’t have been bothered to—not to mention he could never count down even ten seconds right—but he would be lying if he said the frustrated groan Yamato let out wasn’t worth it.
----------
Luffy nearly jumped out of his skin when Kaido’s voice boomed from below them. He exchanged a quick look with Yamato and they both nodded before they crept carefully and quietly towards the cracked, weak floorboard a little ways to the side.
“Do you see anything?” Luffy asked in a hushed tone, trying to shove Yamato out of the way without much success. Damn these overgrown Grand Line people.
“Nope. But—” Yamato lifted himself up a little to put his hand where his face had been pressed against the board— “I think this will work.”
Slowly, he pushed down. The floorboard creaked under the pressure, bending downwards more and more until there was enough of a gap for them to see the floor below.
Luffy grinned. “Awesome!” Quickly kneeling on the ground, he slapped Yamato’s hand away and put his forehead on top of the board instead. Yeah, he really could see a lot now; the Beast Pirates were all huddled around the Light-Scroll Snail projection, where Kaido went on and on about stupid stuff. Was he even going to say anything important?
A second later, he felt Yamato grabbing his shoulder before he hissed “What are you doing?”
“What do you think?” Luffy said back. “Spying.”
For a moment, there was only silence as Yamato froze, but then something hit the floor right next to Luffy. And, only a split second later, that something poked his cheek.
“Hey!” Luffy cried when he realized what was going on—that Yamato had kneeled down beside him and was shoving his face down just like Luffy was.
“You’re the one who started with this!” Yamato replied defensively. “Now shut up, we’re spying here!”
Luffy was pretty sure Yamato was being louder than him right then but that wasn’t the point! “I didn’t try to poke your eye out with my horns!”
“It’s not like I can take them off!” Yamato snapped, baring his teeth at Luffy.
Luffy only felt it was fair to bare his own back at him but before he could so much at glare at his companion, Kaido and Big Mom’s announcement immediately brought Luffy’s attention to them. The One Piece was Luffy’s, who did these jerks think they were? There was no way Luffy would let them get ahead of him; he was the one who was going to be the Pirate King, goddamnit!
But then something even more pressing appeared on the screen. “That’s Momo!” Luffy’s eyes widened at all the bruises and swelling on the boy’s face. Not to mention his position, tied up and put on display like that! “Momo!!” he cried in alarm, jerking forward on reflex.
“Hey, don’t shout—”
CRASH!!
Luffy blinked at the sudden change of scenery. How did he suddenly end up on the floor below? Oh. The boards broke. “Whoops?” he tried when Yamato’s angry face blocked his view. There were splinters in his pony tail and a piece of wood was stuck on one of his horns. Luffy didn’t even bother to stop his laughter at the sight.
“This isn’t funny! Idiot!” Yamato shouted, hitting Luffy over the head which only made him laugh harder.
“And the shogun will be my son, Yamato!”
“WHAT?!” Yamato whipped around at Kaido’s latest announcement, immediately forgetting about Luffy, the slightly amused frustration replaced by pure rage.
A grin still on his lips, Luffy jumped up to his feet as well, ready to join in with Yamato’s mad dash towards the performance floor. His expression turned serious, however, when his eyes fell on Kaido’s face on the screen with Momo’s tiny, sad, beaten up figure behind him.
His brow furrowed, shooting one last glare at the man who couldn’t even see him. As he took off after the angrily yelling Yamato, Luffy growled, “Just you wait, Kaido! I’ll be right there to kick your ass!”
When they had arrived to this country, Kin’emon had told them the story of Oden and Toki, repeated the last words Momo’s mom had said. Luffy didn’t care one bit about any prophecies or destiny or the like, none of it mattered to him. But if bringing dawn to Wano meant kicking Kaido’s ass and opening this country? Then they were smashing this night to pieces.

She'd only seen the Gates perhaps once in her life before this. They reached far into the sky and were blanketed in clouds. She rested aboard her captain's ship, a feeling of languor threatening to overtake her. Eying the tall woman who claimed command of the Spiteful Harlot she sat up. A den den mushi in her hands was spouting some nonsense she could barely make out. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHITEBEARD IS DEAD?!" and at those words Qwynn froze. Edward Newgate, the strongest human in the entire damn world was dead. How? The zoan user instantly shifted into her leopard form and leaped from her place sleeping on the prow of the boat. --- SPOILER WARNING! CONTENT WARNING: Mass character death, brutality and abuse. *The droning voice of Sengoku in the background.* We finally reach the penultimate Arc of the Summit War Saga. This arc was hands down one of the most painful to watch. Not because it was dragging at times, and oh did it drag. But because we all learned that this big rescue mission was nothing but tragedy. I knew what was going to happen, I spoiled One Piece all the time for myself. Hate me if you want, but I like staying updated on the Manga as my mental illness. That being said I watch the show in spurts between work and commitments to my patreon work. So, wow, lets do this, I'm not breaking this one down to bits of the arc. This is going to be a pure bad good and ugly. I want to do it this way because this was the hardest hitting Arc I've seen since Enies Lobby. The Ugly One thing about Shounen ANime is they really like to drag out fights with a lot of twists and what not. I say this as someone who grew up on shows like Yu-Gi-Oh and OG Dragonball Z. This story was great, it added a lot of nice twists and bits but there were a few low points for me. It doesn't dragon on a Naruto Level. I can't put my finger on it, but a lot of ways I really didn't think it should have taken Luffy more than five episodes to get out of the exit ring. This part of the battle is perhaps the most where I got frustrated watching. It really started as the push for the harbor was about midway through. The story where we finally get Squard's stab into Newgate. Watching him do so, learning more about the backstory of Ace and much more was heartening. But there are a few episodes that break down to pretty much "Keep going get going" and then only a little bit of progress is made. This entire Arc is about a losing war, and yet, damn it ground hard into me. And this is the only critique in this regard I can think of! So I was going to do a bad, but fuck it, I already did that. The Good I simp for this show. It calls me like the Jezabelle she is! Now lets talk about what this Arc did so damn well, it made me fucking cry. We already know Oda is kind of against killing people off. He let Crocodile live for FFS. There are even points where it was obvious that people like Moria should have been dead, but nope they are still alive. Hell, its also been revealed that perhaps a certain giant is still alive! Spoilers aside, this entire thing is pretty fucking filled with despair. An entire story about the despair created by the fucking World Government. Yeah, lets not ignore that the world of One Piece is rand by a genocidal government okay with wiping out entire nations and islands for convenience. So watching them murder not only a bunch of pirates, but lying to get them to betray each other makes sense. Sure, we can easily view the Marines as good guys if we already didn't know better. What we see really is a group of people trying to save on eo fhteir own. Attempting to use overwhelming odds but all they ace is three fucking tyrannical gods, and their pragmatic Commander. The Whitebeard Pirate Alliance fall in droves as they are cut down by the Warlords and the Admirals. The Vice Admirals join the fray and as Little Oars dies to save his friends they use his fucking body to climb over. This is some seriously dark shit. All the while we watch as Ace is reminded of how his entire life all he's good at is getting other killed. DAMN ODA! Squard's betrayal in of itself was another great ploy by Sakazu aka Akainu, a truly tyrannical figure. This shows that the Marines as the sword arm of the World Nobles is not above fomenting mutiny. Yeah, it's a good strategy, and honestly it just reminds us that these are not good people. They have NO scruples. Whitebeards death was just so damn disquieting. He just stood there as he finally lost his strength. Then to have his devil fruit powers stolen by that bastard Teach made it even worse. Teach truly is a fucking near Xanatos level villain. This guy has played Newgate SINCE he joined and sacrificed former friends to get what he wanted. All of this culminates into the final death of Ace, and damn, I knew it was coming. I knew it was going to make me cry, yet by the Nine it tore into me. ACE and Luffy are members of ASL, and three kids who grew up in a world that despised them. It it weren't for Crocodile (yes I follow the Croco-mom theory) hadn't saved his boy Luffy would be dead. Gay Canon I will say that this entire episode is laden with fucking masc characters so I can't spin a a lesbian scene here. Honestly, I would headcanon Luffy as a trans masc and Ace as his adopted brother still. Spin up Hancock as his love interest and there we go. TBH with how tall Hancock is I'm reminded of T4T couple memes I see now and then. Now, let's talk about adopted dads. Newgate actually TREATS his suborinates as his kids and grandkids. He treats them well and defends them with all his might. This can easily be seen with cultish as we're talking about a macho-man figure who gets everyone to call him pops. But easily there is nothing in that manner. Honestly in this story I see Marco's desperation here to save Ace as a man trying to save his husband. Marco and Ace FIT as a couple and I really do like that as an angle. For sapphic ships we are still kind of at a loss. The only Warlord Present who can remotely being seen as mingender or "as a womxn" is Hancock. Everyone other major character minus perhaps two vice admirals are androgender spectrum. Now, a rare fic story featuring Hancock and Hina maybe? I mean, there's not a lot of optinos from this storyline! Though, I think a story with Vivi and Hina would also be another good option for an aftermath rare pair set up. Conclusion Wow, yeah, this was a post long time coming and to be honest I've been in a fairly deep funk overwhelmed by real life. Heh, anyways, lets sit back and discuss some final thoughts. The Marineford Arc is a solid conclusion to the Summit War Arc. I really dislike the dub translation of "War of the Best" but whatever. I watch the dub because I get distracted and write and I can't always be reading subtitles. (I use to be a purist, but fucking ADHD and other issues messed it up). Back to the story, this epic battle specifically brought us what we wanted. The despair felt by pirates and the rebels against the might of the Marines. Without the Gura Gura no Mi, the battle would have been harder for everyone. YES, the Division Commanders are powerful. But we are talking about the fucking Warlords of the Sea. One of which is a total meglomaniac who is powerful enough to spider sling across clouds for fun. Aokiji bikes across water because he's so precise with his power. This was a last hurrah for the legends of Whitebeardss Era. Sure Kaido and Big Mom were his mates, but the old man truly was one of the Greats. What we see here is a foolish attempt by the WG to quash the Supernovas. To kick them while they are down and prevent the rise of another Pirate King. Someone capable of challenging the false gods of the Celestial Dragons and put Im on the backfoot. This wasn't going to happen, but what I witnessed was the not just a last ditch effort to save on of their own. I watched a generation's hope of freedom get crushed as villains like Teach, Kaido and Big Mom existed off in the distance. I mean Teach stole a fucking fruit and now has shit that is just plot plate armor level crazy. But yeah, as we go into the New World I'm itching for watching a few Admirals getting a beat down. Hottakes:
Holy fucking shit Marineford is a ridiculous space. I keep forgetting how big Marine ships are as well. Those things Dwarf most of the ships from any of the early arcs.
Are paddle wheel boats a standard? I'v seen three so far, the Kuja Pirate's ship, the one Momonga had and Whitebeard's ace in the hole.
Whitebeard is an interesting figure, I think he should have jumped in. Oars death felt so needless, it just shows that people loved Ace. And this was a means to "punish" him for just existing.
I really just hate Akainu, he's such an asshole.
Aokiji is beyond OP, he's a devil fruit user but he can free sea water. That's a ridiculous cold point to achieve plus averting a common devil fruit weakness.
Well fuck Blackeard for being able to steal fuck powers.

Soooo I’ve got a WIP where Sasuke Uchiha dies not long after fighting Itachi, before Obito declares war but after Sasuke vows vengeance, and he’s reborn as Portgas D Ace.
He’s bitter, resentful of the world around him, and purposeless. Being raised by bandits does make him more uncouth and rough: despite having his memories, brain chemistry and hormones don’t work like an adult’s, and he does imprint a little bit on them. He befriends Sabo at first because the blonde hair reminds him of Naruto, but ends up so so much closer and realizes actually, they aren’t really anything alike. Chakra isn’t a thing in this world, or if it is, Ace’s body doesn’t seem to have it, so it’s almost like starting over from the beginning for him. Despite that, Sabo keeps up with him step for step, right behind him, and part of him actually gets really really attached.
Then, Luffy shows up and does what Luffy is known for(picking up broken people and putting the pieces back together). Ace develops his own dreams of freedom and his own family with his brothers at his side. For the first time since the Uchiha clan died, he laughs and smiles and dances and plays.
It’s slow-going, of course. No personality trait that deeply ingrained will disappear overnight. But by the time Ace is leaving for his journey at 17, he smiles wide and free without hesitation. By the time Luffy and Ace meet up in Alabasta, he’s able to laugh, to wrestle with his crewmates, to joke and party with them all.
(The self-hatred never completely disappears. Without Konoha left to blame, there is only himself. And, over the years he has grown and matured and learned, he thinks he understands a bit better where Itachi was coming from, when he chose Sasuke and Konoha over the Uchiha.
A lot better, actually, he thinks one night before leaving Dawn Island, Luffy cuddling into his neck in his sleep like the baby koala he is.
More than he expected, he thinks, traveling from island to island and seeing dictators and tyrants and militias of all forms, but also seeing the hope and despair, the optimism clutched with white-knuckles fingertips, that the innocent civilians fight for.)
(Luffy talks a lot. Often, he says things that hit hard, that stick with you forever, without meaning to. He sees the world seem so simply, and sometimes Ace can get a glimpse of it, too.)
(Ace told Luffy about his past. Not usually in detail, and often in the form of bedtime stories in third person.)
(It’s amazing, the way Luffy sees the world. It really, really is)
(But why would he want to destroy them? He asks, when Ace tells the story of a boy who learned everything he knew was a lie, and vowed to burn his village to the ground.
Because they ordered the deaths of his family, Ace explained again, annoyed at the line of questioning. Wasn’t it obvious?
But Luffy rolled his eyes. No! Only that one asshole did. Only a few knew!
But-, Ace tried to interject, to point out, to defend himself.
And wasn’t his brother’s whole sacrifice to protect the village, too? Why would he ruin that?
Ace didn’t respond. He didn’t know how to.)
The story itself is actually set much later, when Marineford occurs and Ace actually wakes up his Sharingan in an effort to get him and Luffy the FUCK out of there, accidentally ripping a hole through space and time and stumbling back into his world. It’s mostly focused on Konoha’s reaction to the way Sasuke has changed in his new life, and Luffy and Ace’s attempts to go back home.
For Ace, it’s been 20+ years since he left. He’s had time to come to terms with everything, to accept that the people who hurt him were dead even in the other world, to find his happiness and laugh.
For Konoha, it’s been barely a few months.

By the time Luffy, Ace, Sabo, and Shanks all made it to Party's Bar, no proper introductions of the youngest had been made and no further explanation as to who Shanks is had been given. The boys were almost disappointed that Shanks was so... Like he was. They wanted someone interesting, not someone who is less mature than them, but they hoped since he was the Shanks Luffy would tell them about, he might end up being kind of cool.
Luffy easily ordered their favorite meals and some of Dawn's ale for Shanks as they sat down at the bar; Makino must've purposely kept enough seats for all four of them, considering she already had the two youngest's food prepared when it was requested.
Despite how easily he had trusted Shanks, it was clear that Luffy was keeping track of his crew as they came closer to Ace and Sabo, them not having the same privilege as him. Even as he laughed and talked with him, the two boys noticed him grow stiff when a pirate would drift a little too close to them, and relax once they kept moving. Shanks seemed to notice this, too, but didn't say anything about it. He likely understood his wariness just as well, even if he would trust his men with his life.
"So, you never answered," Shanks said after taking a drink of the ale, "how'd you get yourself two kids?"
Luffy just shrugged and Ace and Sabo had to try not to make it obvious that they were listening in on what he had to say. "Ace's my nephew, Rouge's son, an' he dragged Sabo to the house like he was a stray pup he found so I jus' said yeah, he's ours now, so they're brothers who make a past time of breakin' stuff at the house." He pointed to each of them as he spoke of them, fondness in his voice even as he gave a look at them, not forgetting the still-broken window.
Ace let out a huff and rolled his eyes, trying to ignore how Shanks stared at him for a little longer than people usually did, something in his expression that Ace couldn't decipher. "It's your fault you don't know how to fix anythin' right." He said, shovelling a piece of fish into his mouth.
Giving a nod, Sabo agreed with him. "Yeah, if you figured out how to fix what we break we wouldn't have as much trouble."
"You try fixin' things when you was never taught how!" Luffy shot back with fake anger, waving his fork at them threateningly. "See how good you do!"
A snort drew all three of their attentions back to the red head, who was grinning and trying to hide it behind his glass. "Gods, you lot remind me'a how Rouge would go after Buggy an' me!" Shanks said, shaking his head and taking another drink. "We'd go after her for jus' about everything and she'd give it right back! I guess it ain't no wonder, since she did raise Luf more'an Garp ever did."
An indecipherable look passed over Luffy's face for a split second before he went back to smiling, but it was Ace who spoke up. "You really did know my mom?" The freckled boy asked, leaning over to look at Shanks, Sabo tipping his head as he listened. "Does'at mean you and Lu really did become brothers too? Like me an' Sabo?"
Nodding, Shanks leaned on the bar so that he could see the boys easier and they could see him the same. "Rouge was like a big sister to both of us and Buggy, even though Luf was the only one who was on 'er crew," he explained, "She started comin' around after Captain and her ended up in a stalemate an' she got interested enough to form an alliance with him, and that's how me and Buggy met Luf, though he was a hell of a lot scrawnier than he is now!"
This seemed to get the two boys' attention, though each for different reasons. "Mom could hold her own against R - against your captain?" Ace asked, awe shimmering in his eyes.
Meanwhile, Sabo seemed to be focusing on the fact that he knew Luffy when he was much different than he is now. "Could Lu ever fight? We bet he couldn't, but he says he could, but we don't believe him and since you said he was scrawnier..."
"Oh, she could do more'an hold her own, kiddo! She nearly beat him more than once, but he'd always pull something outta his sleeve to trip her up, like the first time he kissed her - he got punched in the face for it, but he was incredibly smug about it!" Shanks laughed, though his smile was a bit sad. "An' Luf sure could fight! Maybe not in the beginning, but he was a force of nature by the time the crews disbanded, even if he was a cabin boy like me an' Buggy still! Rouge taught him everything she knew an' then he had creativity and guts for days, so he usually won the spars between me and Bugs!"
"Oh, shut up, you prick. I wasn't a force of nature, I was a little kid who jus' so happened to be able to kick two other little kids' asses!" Luffy groaned, giving Shanks a shove as he felt warmth rise in his chest at the memories. "Though I gotta say, the day your captain pulled the kiss stunt, Rouge was up in a tizzy for hours. She was so riled up an' so flustered because she wanted to be the one to kiss him!"
"No way, really? Was she in a bigger tizzy than you was when Cap didn't take you seriously when you told 'im you were gonna beat him to the end of the Line?"
Ace and Sabo's mouths fell open at that information, because Luffy had never even mentioned anything about that - specifically avoided it, it seemed, when they thought back on it. "You did what!" They hollered at the same time, making Luffy jump a little and give a lopsided smile, while Shanks looked as if he realized he said something he probably shouldn't have.
"Ah, yeah," Luffy rubbed the back of his neck, "I... I wanted to be the Pirate King before he could be the Pirate King. It was stupid, and it isn't important now." He brushed them off, even though it was obvious he was lying.
The day and the night continued like that with the four of them going back and forth, hours passing until the two youngest were yawning and barely keeping their eyes open.
-×-×-×-
The Red Haired pirates had to leave after a couple days, but it wasn't too long before they returned and the same thing repeated over and over, months passing with them being common visitors to restock their supplies on Dawn. Ace and Sabo began looking forward to when they'd dock, Luffy right behind them with a lightness to his step whenever they'd be rushing to the docks.
The pirates' presence was a normal thing after a while, and so the townsfolk just gave them polite waves and greetings whenever they passed by. It was a relatively calm evening near the end of fall when they arrived once more, making a beeline to Party's Bar and catching the little family's attention yet again.
The brothers excitedly hounded Shanks for more stories, as per usual. Luffy fondly watched them, enjoying the fact that they have another uncle to interact with - the first time Ace accidentally called the red head 'uncle Shanks' and immediately tried to correct himself was one that Luffy wished he could have gotten recorded on a denden. He did almost dread when Garp would drop by next and inevitably hear about Shanks' visits, though.
He tuned back into Shanks', Ace's, and Sabo's conversation just in time for his brother to say something that made panic rush through him. "So, what do y'all think of Nika?" Shanks asked them, only to receive looks of confusion. He tipped his head at the reaction, confusion of his own flickering across his face. "You know, Nika? Hasn't Luf ever told you -"
"I have not," Luffy cut in, expression tight, "and it's nothing important, just a silly little tale. Right, Shanks?" His tone held a warning and anxiety was flickering in his eyes, the way they shimmered a light gold whenever he was feeling a little too much.
Hesitating, Shanks finally nodded, but he stood up as he did so. "Yeah, yeah, sorry. But, uh, I just remembered that I needed to talk to Luf about somethin' sorry boys! I'll be back in jus' a bit to keep talkin' with you!"
With a hand grabbing Luffy's arm, Shanks pulled him out of his seat and through the crowded bar, until they were out in the night air and headed to the port.

One Piece Chapters 121-129
It’s December now! The month I claimed would be the month to finally have consistent daily posting (I mean I said the same thing about October and November but I was lying those times so it doesn’t count)! The month of holiday festivities! The month where I have to try and remember what was happening in One Piece last time I read some of it! The month of the exorcism.
Chapter 121 - I Knew
Oh right, the princess was watching everyone die or something. Now I remember. Those punks... they killed the Chocobo!!!
Tumblr media
Oh, when he puts it like that, Wil Wheaton makes it sound less like “bounty hunting” and more like “abusing a glitch or exploit in order to not have to worry about earning money while you’re doing your speedrun”.
What happens next is that Wil Wheaton promotes his favorite Netflix show:
Tumblr media
Nami and Zoro get turned into birthday cake decorations. I could have sworn I’d seen a screenshot from the anime before where Lufpy was a birthday cake decoration, but maybe I’m just wildly misremembering.
The large alcoholic reveals that his decision to defeat his manly friend in battle was a matter of pride, not ignorance--but now that he’s even less ignorant, he wants to kill Wil Wheaton! This makes Wil Wheaton’s friends behave aggressively.
Also, Lufpy, Usopp, and the Chocobo are ready to get back up and keep pressing on. Hooray for Chocobos! Not that I’ve ever played Final Fantasy.
Chapter 122 - A Dead Body is Useless
Bleurgh, Wil Wheaton’s power is so nasty... I don’t want to think about a Wil Wheaton sword piercing my flesh. I’d totally get a blood infection. I’m glad I’m not a large alcoholic right now! By which I mean what’s happening to the large alcoholic is totally like that one Danganronpa death. Y’know, that one.
...I swear I’m not obsessed with Danganronpa, I just happen to mention it a lot in my One Piece write-ups...
So what’s happening right now is that Nami, Zoro, the princess, and the large alcoholic are all damsels in distress, in the same way that beloved Ace Attorney character “Herlock Sholmes” was a damsel in distress in the third chapter of the second game with him in it. A princess being a damsel in distress? How cliche! ...Wait, actually, I think that’s already what she was, prior to this birthday cake scene. Well, that aside, Zoro uses vague platitudes to try and inspire the large alcoholic to action.
Zoro also declares that he will now cut off his legs, and...
Tumblr media
Okay, that’s pretty good. Zoro has made yet another joke, and his power level has thusly surged forwards.
Just when Zoro was about to actually go through with it, he gets saved by a Goofballs ex Machina--a rare inversion of the typical Zoro ex Machina. What a shame, I actually would have liked it if Zoro stopped having legs... that would’ve been, like, disability representation or something.
Tumblr media
lmao i see zoro is too much of a Cool Guy to yell people’s names, even when it would lend coherence to a sequence of panels
Chapter 123 - Luffy vs. Mr. 3
Hey, 3 is what comes at the end of 123!!! What a nice confluence of chapter number and chapter title. Not that I know what a “Luffy” is.
Tumblr media
Oh, y’know what? This but from the front was the anime screenshot I saw someone post when I was like 14. I misremembered Zoro as Lufpy because Lufpy is normally the one who would be pointing at the sky. ...I guess Lufpy wouldn’t use a sword to do it, though.
Penny Nichols has a nice picnic for some reason. I think I was calling her Penny Nichols? Well, if I wasn’t, now I am.
Wil Wheaton locks up Lufpy’s feet in Shackles But Grosser, but this, as anyone could have predicted, only increases the potency of Lufpy’s Foot Fetish Moves. Which allows Lufpy to rescue Nami, Zoro and the princess more effectively.
However, even after punching Wil Wheaton into the stratosphere or what-have-you, he still seems to have reached an insufficient maximum effectiveness with which he is rescuing them. This is due to a lack of will, not a lack of ability. How mysterious...!
Chapter 124 - The Tea is Good
It turns out
...no... NO... I LET IT BACK IN...
...Excuse me for a moment. I have obtained a new method of expunging this demonic presence:
Tumblr media
Excuse the black markings on the above panels. You’ll have to put up with this for a few days until the process is complete and I have regained my ability to utter... that phrase... without losing my grip on the threads that tie me to the mortal coil. Or, ideally, perhaps I won’t slip up again until the danger has passed.
Tumblr media
Wow, I don’t remember that one being in Sonic Colors! ...Or maybe it was, and that’s why he shoved Tails into that elevator that one time.
The princess is the only person who realizes how to solicit Lufpy’s assistance, thusly once again proving that Competent Womanhood is a status that can only be held by one individual at a time, and overexposure to Lufpy has tragically removed it from Nami.
...Okay Penny Nichols might be my favorite villain so far. I like her design AND her gimmick. None of her colors seem to line up with the ones from Sonic, but I’ll forgive that minor continuity error.
Tumblr media
You wouldn’t be saying that if you knew the sheer amounts of power Zoro derived from his jokes, Princess.
Usopp calls the Chocobo a good duck because it’s good at dodging, but there’s bad news headed his way: A gun!
Usopp also lights Lufpy on fire, which is good, but something bad also happens: Usopp catches on fire, thanks to... uh, whatever I was calling the male member of whatever team he’s from.
WHY IS LUFPY JACKED???
Chapter 125 - Candle Champion
oh NOOOOOO is Wil Wheaton coming back?! D:
Sanji is coming back.
Wil Wheaton comes back too. :(
WIL WHEATON HAS A MECH???
Wil Wheaton asks Penny Nichols for help. She agrees, on the condition that she gets to take a nap. Wil Wheaton tells her to skip to the part where she’s taking a nap, because he’s already unbeatable without her help. I hope this is the means through which Lufpy and the gang overcome Penny Nichols once and for all.
Tumblr media
Woah, the princess has adopted the role of Competent Woman so hard, she’s Competent even in death... oh yeah everyone’s dead I think I forgot to mention that
It turns out
hngh... GAH...!!
Tumblr media
Humanity restored.
Anyway, what I was trying to say is: Having hair that’s on fire is a really strange choice for someone whose ability is disabled by fire to have. Maybe his hair is the only thing keeping him alive? That’s scary. I’m glad I’m not Wil Wheaton. If I were Wil Wheaton, everyone would hate my Star Trek character and then I would end up having to play myself on Big Bang Theory!
Tumblr media
oh this is at LEAST as fetishy as any special move lufpy has ever used if not moreso
OH LMAO LUFPY HAD THE SAME THOUGHT THAT I DID ABOUT HOW WIL WHEATON’S OWN HAIR DISABLES HIS ABILITY
I guess noticing people’s fashion sense is one of Lufpy’s character gimmicks that I haven’t commented on much up until now.
Using Usopp’s cleverness, Lufpy engulfs all his friends in flame! Uh, except Sanji I guess. Sanji is still busy engaging in the process of coming back.
Chapter 126 - Instinct
...Was Nami always barely-clothed in this scene or is the idea that her clothes burned up in a big fire?
Usopp uses one of the terrifying master’s tricks: Pretending one kind of bomb is a different kind of bomb. Wait, but the terrifying master was an awful boss! I thought better of you, Usopp.
The explosion guy whose identity I forgot tries to get revenge about this, but Zoro prevents that by lighting his own rice pun ablaze. Powerful!
OHHHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOO THERE’S AS MANY OF WIL WHEATON AS THERE ARE CHAPTERS OF ONE PIECE??? That sucks, because Wil Wheaton is gross!!
It turns out
FUCK
Tumblr media
Humanity restored.
As I was saying: Lufpy was able to overcome the army of Wil Wheatons by simply overcoming it.
While Sanji’s enjoying some tea, a basket starts ringing like a telephone. It turns out this is because there was a telephone in the basket, but even with that said: That may have been the most JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure-esque thing ever to happen in One Piece.
Oh, the person calling Sanji was Mr. Zero by the way.
Chapter 127 - Snail-o-phone
Oh yeah, also the telephone was a snail.
The large alcoholic is suddenly even sadder about his manly friend being dead. His manly friend is suddenly not dead. Well, that settles that, I guess.
Wait... is Penny Nichols ACTUALLY gonna get unceremoniously ignored? Is that why we’re getting arc wrap-up stuff now? What’s she up to at the moment?
Steve Buscemi ends up impersonating Wil Wheaton too well, and gets attacked by animals. Oh yeah, I meant Sanji by the way. You can determine for yourself where in that sentence I meant to say “Sanji” but ended up saying something else instead.
The joke’s on animals though, because animal cruelty is quickly
turning out
to be Sanji’s specialty. Huh? Did something happen just now? No... I think it’s fine.
Anyways, Mr. Zero can’t abide animal cruelty, so he plans on killing Wil Wheaton, by which I mean Steve Buscemi, by which I mean Sanji, by which I mean “too well”, the thing I accidentally said instead of saying Sanji.
That aside... Sanji now has access to the banana that will send him to Mr. Zero.
Chapter 128 - Pirate Pride
Ah yes, the palindrome cop and her cop boss who eats various things in various ways. ...Well, they exist!
hey why’d zoro get to keep his shirt? fire got rid of lufpy and nami’s shirts, why didn’t it get rid of zoro’s shirt? i bet there’s a lot of people out there who would have liked it if something happened to zoro’s shirt... wait is he still covered in blood under his shirt? never mind actually
As for why the princess also didn’t lose her shirt... that’s obvious. Boobs Hypnosis is just that powerful.
Tumblr media
Is Sanji... alright... in this panel...?
Tumblr media
He says that as if it’s new information to him, and not something he’s been incapable of shutting up about this entire time. Ah, Sanji... your Sanji Points are... so resplendent, yet so fleeting...
Tumblr media
No context shall be provided.
Anyway, the giants want Lufpy and his crew to not die. That’s nice.
Chapter 129 - Straight Ahead!!!
Nami regains her Competent Woman powers, doubling the number of Competent Women. Incredible! However, this was extremely bad timing, as we are now in a situation where Competence is anything but a virtue. It’s time for the power of friendship to overcome Competence.
It does that.
Now some random fish has a big hole in it.
It turns out
Guaaaaaah...! Nooooo...!
Tumblr media
Humanity restored.
Oh, so NOW Zoro’s shirt mysteriously goes missing. Couldn’t have gone missing when everyone else’s did, huh? It had to wait until NOW to go missing. I get it. Zoro’s shirt is like the type of FREAKING HIPSTER (!!!) who plays Undertale in 2018 instead of 2015. Zoro’s shirt is now the worst member of Lufpy’s crew. It has even fewer Sanji Points than Sanji or Usopp.
Someone is wearing birds. Meanwhile, it turns out the Competent Woman Counter is going to have to drop back down to 1, because Nami is like, dying
