#please don’t yell at me for this i do love eddie and the 118

learning about buck’s childhood just makes the grocery store moment so much worse. he talks to the 118 about his problems because he thought he could trust them with it. because the only other person he could ever talk to about anything was maddie, and even she was always just a little bit out of reach. he tells them so much bad stuff because they’re supposed to be the safe place he can go where nothing hurts. somewhere he isn’t alone. his family, to remind him that he is loved and everything is gonna be okay.
what eddie said told buck that it never was a safe space. that every time he spoke to them, when he thought he finally found someone who cared enough to hear him, there was a part of them that saw him as a nuisance. an exhausting nuisance who complains about everything. who’s problems are so minuscule, they don’t matter at all. he was an inconvenience. something they had to carry but didn’t want to.
just like his parents.
#please don’t yell at me for this i do love eddie and the 118#as someone who relates a LOT to buck this is how i perceive the situation#when you grow up invisible and you finally trust someone with all of you it leads to a lot of opening up#about all sorts of things even just stubbing your toe cuz for once in your life you have someone! who might care!#even though it’s just your toe#because in the past it was never just your toe#it was every single thing that hurt#every bad moment you kept inside because you were alone in the world#there was no one there to hug you when you were sad#buck’s parents may have started out caring when he got physically hurt#but they were always emotionally neglectful#and when they did care they cared for the wrong reasons in the wrong way#and even that faded with time#their love wasn’t just conditional it was. it was so rare#how many times did he sit alone and ache and ache and ache#and all he wanted was someone to hold him. tell him he’s gonna be okay#how many times did he cry himself to sleep#how many times did he sit and wonder what he did wrong. why they saw through him. why he wasn’t enough#what could he do to be enough? what would make them look at him and see him#and be happy with what they saw#happy enough to smile at him#god what he would’ve done to have someone smile at him#and then he thought he found it. he thought he could be enough for someone. they loved him#they listened to him#and then eddie says that it’s whining. that it’s annoying and exhausting and awful#that buck should suck it up and deal with it on his own#and. and the pain he must have felt#911#evan buckley

Tumblr media
A/N: I hope everyone enjoys this and if you like my work please comment like and reblog it means a lot to see interactions on my work
Requested by the lovely: @dkdueo I really hope you enjoy this
Y/N POV
The 118 was a family and everyone was close knit but you Eddie and Buck had your own special friendship.
The three of you was always hanging out with each other outside of work and you were always at another one’s apartment.
You guys were always going somewhere doing something and it was always fun and casual. But lately something had been going on with Eddie. He seemed like a different person. You weren’t even sure what was going on with him. He never would say any time you asked and you never wanted to push him.
It was like he just went blank and dark like there was nothing there to him anymore. That someone just came and sucked him away and he was just an empty shell.
You never wanted to push him though because you were afraid he would just snap and you didn’t want that. You and Buck were always thinking of ways to make him feel better but to no avail.
You and Buck weren’t the only ones who noticed either. Chris was taking a toll as well.
He was worried about his dad and he didn’t want to show it. He didn’t want to upset Eddie so he kept it in.
You tried to push Chris to talk about it to not let it settle in because that only made things worse. So you and Buck were doing the best you could to help him out. You would take Chris to the park and the zoo and even the pier.
The favorite one was the beach though. Buck did nothing complain about it though.
Said the sand would get everywhere and he was hot. But you and Chris loved it. You guys loved to go swimming and build sand castles.
You would pack lunches and spend all day there. Chris would always be so happy and it was a way to get his mind off things for a while.
Today was another one of those famous beach days. Buck didn’t come because he wanted to spend time with Taylor. So you went over Eddie’s early in the morning to pick Chris up.
When you got to his apartment you walked up and just went in. I mean it was Eddie. Was there even a reason to knock ??
You went in and Chris was sitting on the couch with his swim suit on and bag all packed and ready to go with a bright smile on his face.
“Hey buddy, you ready to go” You asked, walking over to him and pulling him in a hug.
He hugged you back.
“Yeah I am but dad’s still sad today” Chris said
‘Why what’s going on” You asked
“He won’t say he’s in his room” Chris said
“Let me go and check in on him” You said
You walked over to Eddie’s room and it was unlocked. You gave it a knock and then walked in. Eddie was sitting in his room on the bed just starting off into space.
He didn’t even notice you walked in. You went in and sat down next to him. You placed a hand on his back and he didn’t even budge.
“Eddie is everything okay” You asked
He didn’t say anything at first but then he looked like he snapped out if and looked over at you.
“Hey I’m good yeah just tired” Eddie said
You didn’t believe him but you also didn’t wanna push it either.
“Were headed out to the beach are you sure you don’t want to join” You asked
“No I’m good you guys have fun” Eddie said
You decided it was probably best to leave it at that. You got up and walked out the room.
“Hey Chris we ready to go” You said
“Yeah let’s go bye dad see ya later love you” Chris yelled out to Eddie.
You guys walked out and headed to the car. The beach was about 15 minutes away.  You guys had the window’s down and the music was blasting.
You got to the beach and grabbed your stuff and headed down. You set up your umbrella and your blankets and coolers.
The first stop was the water. You both loved swimming and ran down to the water. It was cold at first and had you both yelling.
You guys would go out as far as Chris could handle it and play all kinds of games with each other.
Then after swimming you both built sand castles and ate lunch together. You guys also had ice creams together.
The whole day was so much fun you didn’t even realize it was getting late.
You both were laying on the blanket right now both getting tired from the long day you both had.
“Come on I think it’s time we head home before your dad thinks I kidnapped you” You said joking
“Ughh I don’t want” Chris yelled
“ I know me too but we have to” You said, getting up.
You got up and began packing up your stuff. You helped Chris up and then headed on back home.
The car ride was the same as the morning blasting music and singing along.
When you got to Eddie’s you helped Chris out and helped carried his stuff in. When you walked in Eddie was just sitting on the couch with the TV on and it didn’t even look like he was watching anything.
“Dad I’m home” Chris yelled.
Eddie looked over and smiled and walked over to Chris
“I see Buddy how was your day did you have fun” Eddie asked
“Yeah it was fun you should have came” Chris said
“I know i missed you too next time bud” Eddie said
Chris left for his room after that and you and Eddie just kind of looked at each other for a moment.
“I’ll get going then” You said
“Wait don’t go stay it’s late” Eddie said
“No it’s okay really I’ll  be good” You said
“Please you already have clothes here just stay” Eddie asked
“Yeah of course” You said
Eddie smiled at you and in a way he even looked kind of relived you agreed to stay.
You threw your stuff down and went and plopped  on the couch. Chris hasn’t come out yet so you both figured he was going to bed.
Eddie sat down next to you and something about his demeanor felt like there was something going on.
“Hey what's going on” You asked
“If i’m being honest a lot things aren’t okay and I’m struggling a lot of stuff happened and i’m trying to deal with it but it’s all becoming to much” Eddie said
You looked over at him and grabbed his hand.
“Hey it ‘s okay were going to work on this together me and you okay” You said
Eddie nodded and you went in and hugged him and he hugged you back. He then kind of pulled you into his chest and you didn’t fight him.
You both just laid there for a while before falling asleep. The next morning you were woken up by hearing foot steps all around the kitchen. Your head was on a pillow and Eddie was gone. You were kind of disappointed.
Chris was in the kitchen and it was a whole mess that you were not ready to deal with so as far you were concerned it wasn’t even there.
‘Hey chris what’s going on” you asked sitting up
“I’m making breakfast” Chris said
“ I can see where’s your dad” You asked
“He’s in his room” Chris said
“Mm come here” You said to chris.
He grabbed his dinosaur stuffed animal that he was carrying around and walked over to you.
You pulled him to wear he was sitting next to you and was snuggling into you.
You put your head on top of his and the both you went back to sleep.
Eddie had walked back out of his room and saw you and Chris were sleeping on the couch.
He walked into the kitchen and started cleaning up the mess and began making real breakfast. There was a small break in him that started feeling better.
Eddie realized and he wasn’t sure when it was but he knew he was falling in love with.
He loved how kind you were and funny and were always good with christopher. He loved how you always had his back no matter what.
Things were going to change over night but he knew that with you by his side he could accomplish anything. He was going to get help and he was going to change.
Things were going to be okay things were going to be good and it was all thanks to you…..

This is about s05e16 from 9-1-1. Be warned it's almost 700 words.
Is this the episode with the fire? Because then I am scared. I know nobody will die, at least none of the main characters, but I'm still scared. Let them be alright, please.
She annoys me so much. Like, give credit. That was May's call. Dad Bobby. "You mess with MY kid." Shut the fuck up. That's adorable. He didn't promise. That was not the right thing to say, Chim. Eddie's face, haha. He is drinking the tea/ coffee instead of spilling it. That was hilarious. And good for you, May, yell at her. Joss, you hopeless idiot. I do not trust that man. I have never seen you before. Oh no, May is going to be locked in that room, and Eddie will go and try to find her. Shit. Did he just tease Josh about a crush? Eddie, you dog. I hate Claudette with everything I have, and May should slap her. Claudette got a point, but I still don't like her.
Firefighter Eddie Diaz, whoop. Buddie teamwork again this makes me so happy. I am smiling so hard. "He has been waiting months to say that." I love their friendship, aww. Eddie's face when Buck starts rambling. He is like, not the time, not the time. "Don't tell your mother." Haha.
This is all going too well. I am nervous. Not the exact same way he lost Kevin, oh no. I suspected, oh god. Thank god they are all still alive. I love the immediate look and run from Buck and Eddie. That scene is so beautiful. When they all came walking out of the building. I have tears in my eyes. I love the friendship Eddie has with the dispatchers. "I am just glad you weren't with him." That sentence feels so weird. Because Buck has red eyes and looks like he is going to fall apart any moment, and that has nothing to do with Lucy. That has to do with almost losing Bobby, who is like a father to him. To say that feels like they are minimising that feeling. I hate that line. It makes no sense. Taylor is catching on. Which almost makes it worse. That they made that the focus instead of Buck getting a hug or being with Bobby feels very wrong. Like, I don't like Taylor and Buck together, but she knows him well enough to know how much Bobby means to him and for her not to go up to him makes no sense. Even for like a minute. And where was Eddie during all of this? That scene was amazing, but that part kind of ruined it.
Aw, May and Bobby. Yes, Josh get it. That was being supportive good job Chim. Albert's smile. Buck and Eddie are in the background. What are you doing gentleman? You looking awfully close there. I kinda love that Buck is with Eddie while Taylor is also there. I like how she handled that, that was classy. But it is also clear that she is worried about Buck while also wanting to see how Lucy would react.
Yeah, that makes no sense. She was up and talking, and I just don't trust him. Poor May. Also, how is it that Bobby and the rest of the crew were in the hospital faster than Claudette? Bobby and May one thing, but the rest, no. It's weird. She is suspicious good. Do we get detective Wilson back? Yess Karen. I think that we need more Karen in this series.
This is a good episode and very action filled, and that is what we need once in a while. I love how May had the focus this episode, and you see how awesome she is. I also need more of her. I am curious if Eddie will go back to 118. He has Christophers blessing. I am a bit scared about what will happen with Jonah next episode.

Buddie vs Lone Star meta (3/3)
Notes: LS = 911 Lone Star || OG = original 911 || These three meta posts were written before LS s3 even started... || part 1 || part 2
LS 211
This may seem like a small thing, but I still found it interesting. In this ep, we see the 126 perform a rope rescue, not for the first time. Now, if you’ve been following my meta posts, you know that I LOVE the fact that Buck and Eddie have their own little team going within the 118 unit. In the context of rope rescues, that means that unless there are some unusual circumstances, Buddie almost always get to do them together, and they even have preferred roles, where Buck rappels down and Eddie is the one holding the rope and being his anchor (I even wrote a whole fic around this theme). What I find so interesting when watching the 126’s rope rescues is the reminder that they do NOT have a clearly defined team-within-the-greater-firefighting-team as the 118 do with Buddie. You see a rope rescue, for example, and it could be any combo of firefighters in any role. It’s a reminder that the ‘battlefield boyfriends’ theme that Buddie have going on is not a necessity of this line of work, it’s something that they developed and is so uniquely them.
Tumblr media
~ ~ ~
Also, the title for this ep is ‘slow burn’. To the best of my knowledge (and I also checked with a friend who’s a first responder, but please do correct me if this is wrong), ‘slow burn’ is not an actual firefighting term (unlike, for example, ‘flashover’). So where did the show borrow this ep’s title from? I don’t have any other explanation other than that it's borrowed from the world of fandom and shipping, a wink telling us the 911’s Powers That Be are aware of the term, of fandom, of ships and romantic tropes. It’s especially true when this ep and the following one involve Tarlos in the main plot, including a pretty steamy scene between them. So it’s a reminder that when we yell about Buddie being a ‘slow burn’? TPTB know what we’re talking about...
Tumblr media
LS 213 This is an ep that builds on the Tommy and Owen friendship which has been growing all throughout LS s2. Not for a second did I think the show was trying to get people to ship them. And it’s not because Tommy is married or Owen is involved with Gwyn at the start of the season, ‘coz I have seen shows starting a ship out like that with the intent for the audience to realize that the partners are the wrong people for the main characters to be with, that they should be together instead. This made me reflect again on why I don’t ship ANY of the friendships on either 911 show, other than Buddie (with the exception of the 3.09238 seconds where Madney pretended to only be friends... but their real feelings  for each other went canon in what, the second ep they shared, as we witnessed that they had a whole routine set up of spending time together? So yeah, Madney being the only other exception actually supports the point I’m trying to make). I think the answer is, because none of those friends are as intensely intertwined into each other’s personal and emotional life as Buck and Eddie are (or as Madney were shown to be in 208, and even that wasn’t as intense as Buddie are). Friends on this show know and care about each other, they’re interested, they’re there for each other, they offer support and help, but they’re not each other’s *main person* like Buck and Eddie are. I’ve written before about different comparisons between OG friendships on the one hand and Buddie (and Madney) on the other, I’m just adding to this growing list the LS friendships which show the same pattern: we have plenty of deep, caring ones, that don’t come across as subtextual romance, proving that it’s not an incapacity for appreciating friendship that drives Buddie shippers, it’s the canonical fodder we’re given that makes them different.
Tumblr media
LS 214 Okay, but TK saw Carlos with Tommy’s twins in this ep and you know his ovaries exploded. He didn’t put it quite like that, obviously. He simply agreed when Nancy called it, “adorable” (a little like how Buck didn’t say out loud that he thought Eddie was cute, but that’s what he thought he was agreeing to when talking to Maddie in OG 206). Now tell me that the smitten look TK gets when he sees Carlos with those kids is not exactly like Buck in OG 203, seeing what an amazing dad Eddie is and developing the worst case of heart eyes ever in the history of any crush, ever... Insert “they’re the same picture” meme here!
Tumblr media
~ ~ ~
I find it so interesting to see Tommy feeling a little lost as a newly single parent. She has to recalibrate her life and figure out how to navigate parenthood on her own. It threw me back to Eddie in OG 217, where he’s newly widowed. He definitely has to deal with grief and loss, but it’s so noticeable that in comparison, even though Shannon had re-entered his and Christopher’s life and was a part of it for only a few months at that point, her exit doesn’t throw their daily life into complete disarray, with a need to recalculate how to complete even the most mundane tasks. And yes, a part of it is because she had left them once before already, which means that the figuring out how to carry on as a single dad in L.A happened at an earlier point for Eddie. And what helped him get through that? Eps like OG 204, 210 and 312 clearly show it was Buck, coming to Eddie’s aid, introducing him to Carla, and becoming a co-parent to Chris that Eddie could turn to, share experiences with, consult and rely on. After Shannon’s death, Eddie can insist on staying in L.A with Chris, and a part of why is thanks to Buck being there, as well as Carla’s help which Eddie has thanks to him. That means that even before the legal guardianship reveal, it would have thrown the Diaz boys’ daily life into a greater spin if something were to happen to Buck than when something did happen to Shannon. Not because she didn’t matter, but because at that point, she was an outsider visiting in, while Buck had already become Eddie’s real life partner...
Tumblr media
~ ~ ~
The second seasons of both OG and LS end with a probie getting to the moment where they’re no longer considered a probationary firefighter. But whereas Mateo’s moment is all about his entire team (a 126 group hug), Eddie’s ceremony is to a great degree centered around two people that give this moment its emotional depth: first Chris and then, Buck (especially because the show establishes in the preceding scene that he’s risking his leg and thus his career to attend, plus they keep beaming with pride and joy at each other, including throughout the first of our onscreen Buddie hugs). Seriously, comparing the way these two shows within the same verse tell similar stories only accentuates the differences and highlights how Buck and Eddie’s stories are inseparable in a way that no two other platonic friends are...
Tumblr media

I just. I just thought about Eddie holding baby Jee-Yun? And singing to her while she clutches at his finger with her tiny meaty baby hand??
Maybe Buck freaked out a little because she was being fussy and wouldn't settle, and its probably nothing but hey, who better to call than Eddie, who conveniently has the day off and cuts off Buck's panicked rambling with a soothing;
"Its okay, Buck. Give me ten minutes, okay? You're doing great. She's probably just restless."
Eddie gets there and sends Buck off to cook dinner or shower or take a nap, scooping Jee-Yun out of her travel crib and making sure she's changed, warm, fed and content. And its been so long since Christopher was this tiny, but holding Jee-Yun makes him think back to that tiny, wriggly little bundle in his arms for the first time, back before it all went to shit.
Eddie pacing slowly around the lower loft, singing quietly, tickling her little chin, grinning when she giggles and gurgles at him. And he can see so much of Maddie and Chimney in her already. She's got Maddie's eyes and Chimney's lopsided grin.
(And for a little crack, maybe Buck catches this scene and is so overwhelmed he just blurts out; "put a baby in me!" And Eddie is like; "... What?" 👁👄👁 Which cues a hilariously awkward but heartfelt confession of feelings on both sides.)
Hey hey! So I like I told you I started this a while ago and then got SEVERE AND DEBILITATING writers block, and it sat waiting for new life. And then 5x03 happened, so Hello, new life! I hope you love it!
With You, My Life, I Will Get Married
Warning: mild spoilers for 9-1-1 season 5 episode 3.
Chimney was out searching for Maddie.
After shifts, on weekends, whenever he had a second, he was either spending time with Jee or out searching for her mom.
In times when he was on the search everyone at the 118 was making time to watch Jee Yun. Mrs. Lee was doing what she could, but couldn't always be available, and when that happened, Jee would spend some time at Bobby and Athena's or by Hen and Karen. And when they had too much going on, or when either of the uncles felt like they weren't getting enough time with their beautiful niece, she would spend time at her Uncle Buck's or Uncle Albert's.
Uncle Buck got lucky this time.
Eight hours in and everything had gone wrong. Buck shoulders were damp with spit-up, baby drool, and snot and all Jee seemed capable of doing was crying, crying, crying.
"I'm so sorry! I don't know what I did wrong, and, and now--just, Jee, please, it's okay, I'm here--!"
She continued to yell and Buck got more and more panicked. "Your Uncle Albert's gonna be here in like 5 minutes, Jee, okay? And then, maybe, maybe he's better with you? And will make you happy, and then--Oh God, what have I done wrong--"
A knocking at the door sent him back on his feet, swaying toward the loft entrance. It opened before he could get there, however, and he stopped where he was, a furious Jee Yun screaming in his ears as Eddie Diaz, not Albert Han, walked in.
"You look like you're having fun." Eddie's eyebrow was raised and his mouth quirked in a teasing smile.
"Eddie...?" Buck's momentary shock was interrupted as Jee let out another wail. "Um, sorry, this isn't the best time at the moment, but Albert--"
"--has a date tonight and sent me as his relief." Eddie reached out and plucked Jee Yun from Buck's arms. "And you have a date with your shower and a few hours' sleep."
"I--no, it's okay, I know you just got off shift--"
"Buck." Eddie shifted Jee to one arm, and the other rested on Buck's chest, over his pattering heartbeat. He met Buck's eyes, his own calm despite the bundle of adorable chaos still screaming bloody murder into his shoulder. "Go shower."
"...Yeah, okay."
***
She truly was one of the cutest babies, even when she was liable to wake up the neighborhood with her noise, Eddie thought with a smile as he re-seated her over one shoulder and began to firmly but gently tap her back.
"Your Tio Eddie is going to assume this is a gas issue, okay, chiquita? Christopher used to have this all the time, and he would scream and cry." Eddie huffed ruefully. "I was useless at it then, but Shannon showed me what to do." He kept tapping at her back. "Good set of lungs means a healthy baby, good job, Jee. Now, let's see if we can't get this gas out of you so you can calm down and you and your Tio Buck can get some sleep, okay?"
Eddie started circling the room, the sun beginning to set as he heard he shower turn on.
"There you go, see? Your Buck is going to get all showered since you drooled all over him, and then you both can get some sleep, how's that sound?"
He was answered with a burp far louder than Jee's small body should be capable of making. Then a sweet gurgling sound as she nestled her chin into his shoulder.
"There, feel better, mi princesa?" Eddie whispered against her soft, downy hair. "When I was small and got upset, and my parents got annoyed with my sulking, they'd send me to Abuela. And she would sit me down on her lap, just like this," he sat down on Buck's couch, and settled Jee Yun against his broad chest, rubbing her small back with a large warm hand. "And she would hug me until I forgot what I was so upset about. All I could think about was the smell of her perfume and how much I wanted to be like her one day.
"Then Pepa would come out and yell at both of us that it's about damn time we came into the house, dinner doesn't make itself." Eddie laughed at the memory. Jee made a small discontented noise and Eddie stood up again, walking toward the kitchen, where he saw the half-formed works of bottle making on the counter. "Shhh, princesa, Tio Eddie's gonna make you a bottle." With Jee over his shoulder, sounding more and more on the edge of hunger-panic, Eddie quickly assembled a bottle then leaned back against the kitchen island and cradled Jee Yun in his arms, pressing the nipple to her mouth, which she accepted gratefully.
"Better, yeah? Where was I...? Oh." Eddie smiled. "Once we were inside, Pepa, Abuela and I would make arroz con leche. Abuella would wash the rice, Pepa would be tutting the whole time about too much sugar, but she would always wink at me and add just a bit more before the cinnamon." Eddie couldn't help the smile that stole over his face as he remembered Abuela's warm kitchen in her El Paso ranch house before she and Pepa relocated to LA. In winter, the windows would fog over from the heat of whatever was on the stove. When she left, a lot of Eddie's heart left with her.
"They used to sing me the song too, you know?" Jee gurgled around her dinner and Eddie smiled again. "Well, I wasn't planning to sing it, but you drive a hard bargain." Eddie's poked Jee's soft cheek with a finger and began to sing.
Arroz con leche se quiere casar con una viudita de la capital, que sepa tejer, que sepa bordar, que ponga la aguja en su campanal.
(English translation: Rice with milk (rice pudding) Wishes to get married With a little widow from the capital. Who knows how to weave (or knit), Who knows how to embroider, Who puts the church steeple in the bell tower.)
***
Eddie was no American Idol contestant, but his voice was soothing and good. Strong. Listening to him sing from his seat on the stairs, Buck almost felt like he was where Jee currently snuggled, right against Eddie's chest, as his bass voice sung the gentle Spanish lyrics, harmonized by the occasional happy noise from Jee Yun.
Yo soy la viudita la hija del rey. Me quiero casar y no sé con quien. Contigo sí, contigo no, Contigo mi vida me casaré yo.
(English translation: I am the widow The daughter of the king, I want to get married and I don’t know with whom. With you, yes. With you, no. With you, my life, I will get married.)
Buck's head knocked lightly against the banister, body relaxing. He wasn't wearing a shirt, just the softest sweatpants he owned with a towel draped over his shoulders to catch water from the mess of wet curls on his head.
Eddie's so hard on himself all the time. I don't get it. He's such a good dad.
Dazedly, Buck's eyes fixed on Eddie's mouth as he repeated the verses again. Then Eddie sighed.
"Afterward Pepa would ask me who I want to marry and Abuela would laugh at me, and I'd always complain--" Jee gurgled again. "Like that, yes. But honestly, it was nice... Even though between you and me, Pepa can't sing very well at all." Eddie's lips quirked again in a smile. "Kind of like your Uncle Buck."
Buck startled at his name and looked up at Eddie's eyes. They twinkled back at him in the dying last light of the day, Eddie's golden skin lit by the last rays of the sun. Buck felt his face heat with a blush, knew there was nothing to do about it.
"Sorry, I should've--"
"Feel better after your shower?"
Buck sighed and smiled. "Yeah. World's better." He stood, stretching out his long legs as he descended the stairs. It was full dark now, but Buck didn't feel like turning on a light. "I can take her now."
"Nope." Eddie met him midway, hand on Buck's shoulder turning him around. "You're both getting some sleep now." One hand on Buck's shoulder, the other holding a drowsy Jee Yun, Eddie guided him back up the stairs, and pressed Buck down until he was sitting on his bed.
"Eddie, are you sure--"
"Shhh." Eddie deposited Jee into Buck's arms, then sat down behind him. "You can hold her for now." Eddie's hands skimmed up Buck's warm back then pulled the towel off Buck's shoulders, laying it on top of Buck's head, where a corner flopped over his eyes.
"Eddie?"
"Hold still, Buck."
Eddie's strong hands curled into the towel and Buck's hair, rubbing vigorously to get it dry. "Seriously, anyone who has ever seen your hair at work would marvel at how different it looks before you comb and gel all the life out of it." He rubbed vigorously, and Buck felt himself relaxing back against Eddie's chest. Tomorrow, he might look back at this and feel embarrassed. He might have to apologize. Tomorrow, he would go back to hiding how much he felt for the man who was drying his hair, still absent-mindedly humming the Arroz con leche tune under his breath. But for now, Eddie was too near and too warm and too... Eddie. And Buck found that he couldn't deny himself Eddie right now.
Buck cleared his throat and made himself focus on their conversation. "I used to wear my hair naturally, but people said it looked floppy. Made me look like a puppy."
"People are stupid sometimes, Buck. You know this." Eddie's thumb traced the shell of Buck's ear. "And if you think slicking back your hair makes you look less like a puppy, you really shouldn't be bothering." He snickered as Buck tried to shoulder his chest and Jee made a noise of complaint.
"So I just look like a puppy all the time, huh?"
The towel dropped. Eddie's arms came around, holding onto Buck and Jee Yun both. "I think you're a beautiful man, Buck."
The air in Buck's chest hiccupped out of his mouth. His heart picked up speed as the places where Eddie's hands rested on his stomach seemed to heat from within. "Y... Eddie?"
"Shhh. Sleep now. Jee's asleep, but who knows for how long." Eddie's voice was gruff, embarrassed. "I'll just--"
"Stay?" It came out too high, too soft. Buck cleared his throat and tried again. "I mean, if it isn't any trouble, and--"
"I can stay." Eddie's arms tightened around Buck again and he pulled him backwards until Buck could lay out flat on his back, before pressing Buck's head down on his pillow. Then Eddie pulled Jee from Buck's arms and sat back against the headrest, legs folded together, Buck's niece cuddled again against his chest. "Sleep now."
"Okay." There was so much Buck wanted to know. To say. It all got stopped in his throat as fear tamped it all down to squirm in his chest.
"Eddie?" The word found its way out.
"Hm?"
"...Nothing."
A sigh. Then, "Come here."
Buck didn't hesitate, moving his head off the pillow and onto Eddie's lap. Eddie's spare hand found its way back into his curls and tugged lightly before stroking through them, gently, so gently.
"Sleep now."
"Okay. But," Buck's jaw cracked around a large yawn. "Before... you have to know..."
"Hm?"
"You are... so beautiful... Eddie Diaz."
Buck felt Eddie's hand tighten in his hair again, before releasing, fingers wandering down to trace his eyebrows, his nose, his lips.
"Sleep, querido."
As Buck's eyes slipped closed, and awareness almost dropped away, he swore he could feel lips press lightly right above his eye, on his birth mark.
"Contigo mi vida me casaré yo."

crazy golf| evan ‘buck’ buckley
Tumblr media
summary| when you blackout on a mini golf course the 118 gets called to the scene
“Your dad?! You have a dad?” You couldn’t help but chuckle at the shock that spills from the speakers of your phone. While you had the day off from the firehouse, your boyfriend Buck, wasn’t so lucky. In fact today was when he worked one of the dreaded 24 hour shifts. “Everyone has a dad, Buck.” You laugh at him sarcastically and you can hear your boyfriend scoff over the other end of the call. “I know that, it’s just that... I don’t know, you never really talked about your dad before.” Now you scoff. “Yeah there isn’t much to tell, he left when I was still really young and our communication was little to none throughout the years.” “So explain to me why you’re meeting with him exactly.” You could hear the voice of Chimney make it’s way into the conversation and you could bet that he and Hen had now gathered around Buck to hear the conversation.. if you’re lucky Bobby and Eddie probably joined as well.
“I don’t know, he and his new family is in town for vacation so I figured why not meet up with them.” As you make your way through your and buck’s shared house to the living room, where you sit yourself on the couch. “If you guys don’t talk, how does he even know you live in LA?” Hen now spoke, proving you correct. “My mom’s Facebook most likely-” Eddie scoffs at the comment. “Oh cause you and your mom talk so much more Ms. I didn’t tell my mom I moved across country.” “You didn’t tell your own mother you moved across the country?” Now Bobby’s voice comes over the speaker... the gangs all here. “Okay shut up both of you!” “Is it really a good idea, Y/N? I mean, you haven’t seen him in years. Are you sure you want to go alone?” Buck’s voice is finally heard again. You could picture the exact face he was making in that moment. The concerned Buck face. “It’s not like he’s a psychopath, Buckley.” “Y/N’s a big girl, she can handle it.” Bobby joked in the background of the call. “Is it just you and him or are there more people that will be there?” “Most likely him and I, his wife, and her 2 kids.” At that the loud ring of the fire bell ignites. “Y/N, we have to go. I’ll talk to you later, be careful, I love you.” “I love you too and shut up about me being careful, take your own advice.”
_
“Pants, are you crazy girl? It’s 90 degrees out!” The hounded of your father begins the second you approach the group of them at the entree of the mini golf course. “90 degrees is nothing if she goes into burning buildings with practically a winter jacket on.” The countering voice of the eldest step brother replied to his comment before I could. The eldest, named James, was my favorite of the three kids. Not that I saw much of them, but from what I did, he was always the nicest. Kayla, younger than James but older than myself, was always more bitchy, however we knew each other back when she was a teenager. “You’d be surprised for being a firefighter, putting out fires is only like 2 percent of what I do on a day to day.”
“Hey-” “Stop worrying she’ll be okay.” Buck practically jumped from his skin when Eddie snatched his phone from his hands. Buck frantically looks around to the other as they unpack the truck from the recent call. Chimney and Hen laugh at him for the way he’s acting. “I’m just checking to be safe!” Buck defends snatching his phone back, checking the screen for any miss calls before sighing and sliding his phone back into his pocket. “You’re worrying about an ex-detective turned firefighter meeting up with her dad... how does Y/N deal with you.” Chimney questioned earning another eye roll from Buck. “You just never know. I know what it’s like to not have a good relationship with your parents. I’d be dying right now if I were in her position.” Buck explains and Hen shows a bit of empathy for the boy. “Y/N isn’t you Buck, she’s not any of us, she’s her. If you hadn’t noticed she doesn’t really hold grudges, she gonna go see him, pretend like nothing happened and then when he disappears again she’ll forget that he even came back into her life.”
“Vending Machine, you want anything?” James questioned as you reach the midway point of the course. “My god, yes please.” You huff, wiping the sweat from your forehead. You join James and Kayla near the machine, taking a seat besides Kayla on her bench. “Water please.” “There is only soda.” James calls back and both girls groan, rolling there eyes. “It’s too hot of soda.” Kayla groaned, you nod in agreement. “Sprite, I guess.” “Coke for me.” You lean your head back to hang in exhaustion. “So.. how has LA been? Any boyfriend?” Kayla starts up conversation, different from how she use to be. “Better than back home and yeah, yeah a boyfriend.” “Boyfriend? What’s his name?” James over hears, turning and handing us our respected can of soda. You open it and down half of it, placing the cold can on your neck before replying, “Buck, well Evan Buckley but we call him Buck. We work together.” They nod, as dad and his wife join us ready to continue the game. You go to stand and suddenly stumble back at the blackness that suddenly clouds your vision. “Whoa, Y/N you okay?” Your dad reaches out to stop you from falling. “Yeah, yeah, just stood up to fast. I’m fine.” You remember, you haven’t eaten since you’ve left work the night prior and water.. well water isn’t exactly your drink of choice. “Are you sure?” James double checks. “Yes I’m fine.”You shrug your dad’s arm from your shoulder and start the small uphill hike to the next hole, however before you can get your bearings you’re suddenly on the ground slumped again the rocks of the golf course, the world around you coming in and out.
The blaring of the alarm puts everyone in the 118 into motion as the team climbs into the firetruck and ambulance and as the truck pulls into drive, Buck’s phone goes off in his pocket. His sister Maddie. “Maddie what is it? We’re on a call-” “Yeah yeah I know, it’s about the call... it’s Y/N.”
“LAFD please clear the way.” Bobby, followed by the team arrives onto the scene where James is waiting at the beginning of the course to lead them to the still incoherent Y/N. “What exactly happened?” Bobby questioned, Buck and Eddie standing to each side of him as Chimney and Hen make there way onto the course to evaluate her. “We stopped to get a drink from the vending machine and then when we went to continue she went to walk up the hill and just boom, dropped.” “Her vitals are all good, she’s coming in and out, she’s extremely dehydrated!” Hen calls from their position, Hen and Chimney kneels on the ground besides you. “Y/N!” Buck yells going to take off to join them, however, stopped by both Eddie and Bobby. “Buck stop! Go get water from the stand, Eddie from the ambulance get a gerny, I’ll go get Y/N, Eddie set up under the sprinklers here.” “Bobby, let me go get her-” “Buck follow the order.” With a red face, Buck stomps away from his captain in the direction of the convent stand to get water. Bobby treks his way through the course joining half of his team as well as her father and step mother. Hen has already inserted an IV with water into Y/N arm and slowly was she regaining her consensuses. “Y/N, it’s Bobby we’re going to move you, okay?” “Bobby?” You mumbled as he counted to three, lifting you effortlessly, Hen holding the IV bag as Chimney follows with the medical bag in hand. Bobby knows you’re with them as he can feel you holding onto his neck as he carries you but as your head drops forward, he begins talking. “Y/N talk to me.” “I’m okay.” Your voice trails off, head dropping completely backwards as your arms go slightly limb as they arrive to the beginning of the course again, where Eddie had a gerny, Buck had water and sprinklers were raining water lightly down. “Y/N come on, wake up!” Bobby’s voice gets louder as he sits you down completely out cold. “Y/N!” Buck’s voice calls louder as he shoved the bottle of water into Eddie’s hands. “Y/N!” Buck shakes you, both hands on either side of your face and with the shakening and the sprinkling of water as well as the IV coursing water into your body, you’re eyes flutter open. “Buck, I’m fine.” Buck smiles, sighing in relief, his head dropping forward grateful for you’re eyes opening. “Y/N when was the last time you ate?” Hen’s judgmental voice speaks up as her arms cross. “Um-” You shut your eyes tightly, the exhaustion not leaving your body. “Cap, what did you make for dinner late night?” Scoffs from your team fill the air. “You are an idiot.” Buck mumbles besides you and you lightly push him off. “Eddie, go get get a milkshake or something please.” Bobby orders and Eddie nods rushing off to get it. “Chocolate! She doesn’t like Vanilla!” Buck calls after his teammate, his eyes falling to her family, standing just off to the side watching in silence as she mingles with the team that just saved her. “So... I’m assuming that’s Buck?”

vi. neck kisses: eddie/buck.
this is disgustingly sweet. whoops.
connec(k)t eddie/buck, fluff, kissing
“Buck,” Eddie says, laughing.
Buck’s mouth ghosts over Eddie’s pulse point, lips brushing softly against his skin. Eddie can feel the lips curve as Buck smiles. “Yes?”
Eddie rolls his eyes, lifting a hand to Buck’s neck. He’s not sure if he wants to pull him away or hold him in place. His eyes dart to the rest of the garden, but nobody’s paying them any attention. The barbecue is busy, the 118 and their families crammed into Eddie and Buck’s yard to celebrate. “We have to talk to people.”
“Soon,” Buck whispers. He’s got Eddie against the wall of their house and Eddie wants to shove him away because there are kids in the garden, but Buck’s grip is tight on his hips.
If Eddie’s being honest, he doesn’t want the wet, warm kisses against his neck to stop. Buck kisses his throat and Eddie tips his head back. It’s a fight to control himself; he wants to shove Buck into the house and drag him into the bedroom but a) rude, b) they have to work with these people tomorrow, and c) when he does that, it’ll be long and slow and he doesn’t have time.
“I love this Henley,” Buck says, voice quiet against the noise in the backyard. “S’loose,” he continues, sucking at Eddie’s shoulder, a kiss to Eddie’s collarbone.
Eddie closes his eyes. “Buck,” he says, because he wants to do this later, when they’re alone. “Stop.”
Buck does, eyes dark when he pulls back. “What?”
“We’re in public,” Eddie says, his voice pitched in a whine, staring at Buck with heat.
“Later,” Buck promises, kissing Eddie’s neck, his jaw. “Gonna take you apart,” he finishes, voice husky on the last word, and he nips at Eddie’s throat, sucks the delicate skin.
Eddie’s hands go to Buck’s hips, eyes slipping closed again.
“Don’t make me throw water over you two.” Athena’s voice cuts through the moment and Eddie’s eyes snap open in shame.
Buck soothes the throbbing skin of Eddie’s throat with a soft kiss and then pulls back. He admires his handiwork, and Eddie’s gonna have to get a fucking camera before Chris sees, and grins. He looks over his shoulder, probably flashing Athena a winning smile. “We’re being chaste!”
Eddie snorts at the same time Athena laughs. She shakes her head, then nods in Eddie’s direction. “His neck begs to differ.”
Flushing, Eddie drops his head to Buck’s shoulder. Buck’s fingers tease the strands of hair at the nape of Eddie’s neck. “This is embarrassing.”
“Please,” Buck says. “Everyone here’s an adult.”
Athena makes a noise that speaks to her doubt, but she moves away just as Bobby yells that burgers are ready. Kids yell in joy, and most of the adults move across the yard.
Eddie catches Buck’s hand before he can join them. The left hand. His thumb rubs against the new band on Buck’s finger and Eddie’s breath hitches. He almost can’t believe it, though he knows it’s what precipitated the kissing. “You said yes.”
“Duh,” Buck says, this time the kiss landing on Eddie’s lips. “Never a question.”

I Know You (You’re Part of Me)
Please note this work contains spoilers for the 911: Lonestar crossover episode. This work does not contain spoilers for 911: S04E03.
TW: No trigger warnings.
“It was you, wasn’t it?”
They were docked at the 126, invited to stop over on their way from the fireline to use the showers and change into clean clothing. Buck had let the others go first and Eddie had hung back under the pretence of calling his Abuela to let her know they were coming back.
Buck was leaning over the partition wall in the common area, head tilted, looking at Eddie like he could see right through his ribs and into his heart.
“What was me, Buck?” he asked, arching a brow with a half-smirk. A lot had happened over the past four days and there was a lot he could answer for. Buck pouted at him in that stop trying to play with me way.
The kind of way that made Eddie want to reel him in and leave him gasping for air.
“How did you know we’d go darkside for a rescue op?” Buck asked in lieu of answer; brows furrowing. The last of the 118 had trickled out of the showers so Eddie scooped up their bags and headed in.
“I knew you’d go darkside. TK was a good bet, but I was fifty-fifty on whether you’d convince him to stay and take the truck yourself,” Eddie confessed. He’d seen enough of Buck in TK’s eyes to go straight to the 126 crew, though.
He began to undress and Buck hopped up on the polished counters, legs swinging as he looked at Eddie carefully. His silence begged further explanation, and Eddie complied.
“I know you, Buck. I knew the moment you heard someone was trapped you were gonna throw your name into the bowl. And then you found out it was someone’s father - TK’s father - and I took one look between you both and knew that was the deal done. Especially when you were told no.”
And fuck, but it had terrified him. The thought of Buck, alone or with just one other firefighter, storming into the midst of a wildfire...Even to save lives, to save one of their own...
Eddie was selfish that way.
“How did you know I’d go for a truck?” Buck asked, and Eddie shot him an oh, please look. Knowing Buck would go for a truck over a buggy was as easy as knowing Buck would throw his fool ass into the flames in the first place.
Buck pulled a face and Eddie stripped off his shirt, moving to lean on the countertop next to him.
“I kept an eye on you. I know when your head is working. And sure enough, I saw you sneak into the tent and lift the keys from the board.”
“Okay. So you knew I’d go, and you knew I’d steal one of the trucks,” Buck trailed off, clearly thinking. Eddie let him for a moment, then put him out of his misery.
“Like I said. I know you. I know you enough that one look at you and I knew you were going. And I knew I wasn’t going to let you go alone. But I also wasn’t stupid enough to sneak off without telling anyone where we were headed,” he pointed out.
Buck’s face pinched and Eddie knew with satisfaction he’d given Buck something to think about. He could never stop Buck from running into the danger zone, but at least he could make sure Buck wasn’t alone when he did it.
“So I went to Judd,” he shrugged, pushing away, hands drifting to his belt. Buck’s gaze followed, pupils dilating slightly.
“Judd said if you offered TK a line, there wasn’t a way in Hell he wouldn’t take it - get undressed, Buck. We move out in under an hour - so Marjan distracted the Captain and I figured out which keys you stole, and you know the rest”.
He didn’t miss the way that Buck frowned at the mention of Marjan, face going a little sour before he obliged and slid off the counter. He stopped and turned, though, biting at his lower lip.
“You didn’t have to come. You shouldn’t have come,” Buck stressed after a moment. You have Christopher went unsaid. You’re worth more than me lingered between them.
Eddie stepped closer, shorter but the point of authority in the moment.
“Where you go, Buck, I follow,” he told him. Firm but soft, the way Buck received the best. Bobby had it down to a talent, especially after the mess of the lawsuit. Eddie hadn’t taken long to figure it out himself.
The words seemed to devastate Buck, but in the good way, if there was one. It was the same look Buck got whenever someone included him in the definition of their family, or said they were proud of him. The kind of broken warmth in his eyes whenever Eddie saw right through his façade.
"You really thought I wouldn’t know? That I didn’t know you well enough to understand you’d do anything to make sure someone didn’t lose the one they loved? That someone didn’t lose their Bobby?”
Buck crumpled at the words, gaze darting away. Tongue on his lip, head dropping lower. Buck never knew what to do when Eddie carved him out and handed him everything he’d tried to hide and away and protect.
“And you really thought,” Eddie continued, a hand reaching up to brush at Buck’s birthmark, thumb gentle against the pink skin. “That I’d let you go alone? Without me?”
We go together.
“I go where you go,” Buck murmured into the scant space between them. Nothing they hadn’t said before, but both of them could feel that the past four days had somehow changed the meaning of them. Given them more weight.
“Good,” Eddie breathed, praise and confirmation at once. “And don’t you ever forget that I know you like part of myself, Evan Buckley. You ever try to leave me behind again and there won’t be anything left of you for Bobby to yell at,” he warned, helplessness and anger and insecurity creeping in for a brief moment.
For a moment, they just stood there. Inches away from each other, silently reminding themselves that they’d made it out. They’d gotten through it, together. One more time rolling the dice on their lives and they’d won.
And maybe they’d cashed in on another win, too. Finally reached the end of a game they’d been playing for three years now, one maybe neither of them had even realised they’d started.
But here, in a strange station twenty hours from home still stinking of smoke and destruction, was not where Eddie was going to move his piece over the finish line. Buck deserved better than a rushed kiss in the bathroom of someone else’s second home, and twenty hours after where they couldn’t talk about it because they were cramped in with other people.
He was in this for the long haul, and Buck deserved nothing less.

I posted something HERE About Bobby going up to Eddie and slapping him and basically calling him an idiot.  I had every intention to write a fic with him doing that. But instead, this happened.
Bobby knows something is brewing between Buck and Eddie the day they remove the grenade from Charlie’s leg. At first, he was worried because Buck was not exactly subtle in his distaste with Eddie. Then the grenade happened and all sudden they were inseparable, literally. Half the time on calls, they naturally just paired up. So, he sees the writing on the walls, the subtle looks and in some cases lingering looks. Then there is the lack of personal space and the fact that Buck has been helping Eddie Co-Parent Christopher. So, when Eddie mentions an Ana, he is genuinely confused and perhaps he read everything wrong. Except Buck and Eddie keep doing that thing where they look at each other.
So, when they have a moment, he has a whole speech prepared. Have hope it is okay to move on. Of course, you are always going to miss Shannon and perhaps always will. But that does not mean you should not give up on what’s in front of you. To miss out on something real, that could mean something. He doesn’t outright say Buck, but Eddie should know he’s talking about Buck. They spend an excessive amount of time together; he couldn’t be more straightforward than that. Besides why the hell would Eddie assume he’s talking about Ana, for god sakes he looks at Buck as if he hung the moon.
Except, Eddie goes out to breakfast with Ana and then he finds out about Buck’s failed date. And some of the members of the 118 have lost hope in their place in the bet. But Bobby isn’t deterred, and Hen remains determined. Chimney begs if he can back out and have his money back but then changes his mind, when the boys argue over who gets the net gun when they get a call about a turkey on the loose.
So, when Eddie mentions that he has another date lined up with her and that Buck is babysitting he has half a mind to strangle the man because, he’s got fifty bucks riding on this thing and really Eddie can’t be that obtuse and how can Buck also be missing the signs. Because Buck is now getting all cozy with Taylor and perhaps, they were all wrong, except they don’t stop with the eye contact and the touching. Then he hears about what happened with Christopher and he thinks to himself, “This is it, this is when they are going to realize that they love each other.” But then he hears about Eddie introducing Christopher to Ana and Buck is at his doorstep, shoulders hunched, and Bobby feels like he wants to punch someone. He loves Buck like a son and knows that Athena feels the same way. And seeing his son looking so heartbroken, hurts. “Buck,” he says softly.
“I uhh…I’m sorry,” Buck says, voice hoarse, “I didn’t know if-I’m..oh jeez Bobby I’m in love with Eddie and I am freaking out!”
Well crap. Now he feels a little ashamed about his spot in the 118 Buddie Bet.
He’s glad that May and Harry are with their dad before he embraces Buck in a hug and Athena is pulling Buck into the house and ushering him onto the couch. They both work in tandem, Athena covering Buck in a blanket and Bobby pushing a mug of hot cocoa into Buck’s hand. Buck doesn’t say a word, just stares a hole into the floor. “Buck, baby,” Athena says, “do you want to tell us what happened?”
Buck shakes his head, inhaling deeply before letting out a shaky breath. Then Buck is rambling, voice rising on the verge of sounding hysterical, “Do I have to right now, I don’t want to right now, I just figured this out right now and I think it’s always been there and now I don’t know what to do with information and I really just-”
“Buck, Buck!” Bobby yells alarmed, “It’s okay, it’s okay!” as he takes the mug from the man’s hands it to Athena and gathers Buck into his arms in a tight hug. He doesn’t much else, just lets the younger man let it all out. It doesn’t take long before he feels Buck’s breathing even out indicating that he’s fallen asleep. With some help from Athena, Bobby manages to slip out from under Buck and they lay him down onto the couch. Athena places a gentle kiss on Buck’s temple before covering him with a blanket and they both retire for the night.
Buck is gone before they wake up the next morning, the blanket folded on the couch with a note, laying on top: Sorry for coming in late and thank you for letting me stay the night. Please, please don’t tell anyone. Love, Buck. When Bobby tries to flag Buck down the next morning, he tells him, “I don’t want to talk about it, not right now.”  So, Bobby leaves him alone and he watches as Buck pulls away from Eddie. And he watches Eddie’s face turn from confusion to sadness as the day drags on. Great, just great.
Hen and Chimney have noticed the tension and so have the other firefighters. Buck starts sitting next to Hen rather than Eddie when they sit down to eat. During calls Buck requests if he can drive, or even sit in the front seat. The last straw was Buck grabbing Chimney by the arm and dragging him down the stairs saying it was important, after he saw Eddie walking towards him. They all find out later that the very important topic was whether the baby would enjoy a stuffed giraffe or a stuffed elephant as from Uncle Buck. And this question is very important because this stuffed animal could be the baby’s best stuffed animal friend.
So, here they are now in the locker room, just Buck and Eddie. Anytime Buck tries to escape, Eddie anticipates his every move. They seem to be keeping their voices low, but Bobby can tell that Buck is wanting out, by the way his hands keep shaking at his side and opening and closing into a fist. “Come on Buck,” he can hear Eddie says as he jogs closer to the locker room, “just, can you tell me what I did wrong so I can fix it? Please?”
“It’s fine Eddie, it’s not you-”
“Oh, don’t give me that it’s not you it’s me bull shit!” Eddie shouts
“But Eddie, I swear it’s just, I got a lot going on and I just, I need time.”
“I get that, but Buck, you won’t even look at me or even sit next to me? Did I do something wrong?”
Buck shakes his head, “No, um you didn’t”
“Then why are you avoiding me? Is it because of what happened with Chris? I’m not mad about that”
“No, it's not about Chris-”
Bobby chooses that moment to enter, because he can see the panicked look in Buck’s eyes, “Hey, is everything okay?” Buck chooses that moment to escape, bolting out of the room.
“I think I lost my best friend, Cap,” Eddie whispers as he watches Buck go, “I don’t even know what I did wrong, he won’t talk to me.” Bobby stays silent and he watches as Eddie sulks out of the locker room.
Bobby learns that Eddie had broken up with Ana two days later when Eddie shows up at his doorstep, hands in his pocket looking lost. Damn these boys he thinks to himself as he lets Eddie into his home. “Tell me what happened?”
“I did what you said Bobby, I took a chance, and it blew up in my face. Chris was mad, then he liked her and now he doesn’t and Buck, he won’t even look at me or talk to me.”
The Captain sighs as he leads Eddie toward the dining table and orders him to sit down. Athena eyes the younger man suspiciously before turning to her husband. They share a silent conversation with their eyes and Athena knows why he’s here. She begins making some tea before handing Eddie a mug and Bobby one and seats herself down. “I took your advice Bobby, I put myself out there and it got me here. My son mad, Buck won’t even talk to me and Ana well she took the breakup well and I don’t even know how to process that too, in fact she seemed to know something I didn’t.”
“Eddie,” Bobby says, “you keep saying you took my advice, remind me again what did I say?”
“You said that I could miss out on a chance to have something else, something real.”
“Eddie,” Athena cuts in, “think really hard for a moment, perhaps Bobby didn’t mean Ana, perhaps he meant someone else.”
“Someone you already have in your life, someone else you already know,” Bobby adds in
“Buck,” Eddie whispers and suddenly he’s up like a shot out of the chair, “I have to go,” he says hastily as he runs towards the front door before skidding to a stop and backtracking to the table. He gives a hug to Bobby and Athena, “Thanks!” he shouts then he’s out of the house the front door slamming shut.
“These boys,” Athena sighs.
Eddie and Buck arrive together the next morning, shoulders bumping sharing soft smiles. Bobby tries to ignore the red mark that can be seen on peeking out from the collar of Buck’s shirt, but Hen and Chimney don’t. They tease Buck and Eddie looks so smug, but it with the two men finally getting their act together the atmosphere in the station shifts. Everything is back to normal.  Eddie corners Bobby later that morning after breakfast a smile on his face as he hugs him tightly, “Thanks Bobby,” he murmurs.
“You're welcome,” Bobby replies, “oh and you owe me fifty bucks.”
“Wait..what?”
Bobby isn’t even mad that he lost the bet, it’s no surprise to anyone that Hen won, he’s starting to think that she is cheating. But he can’t be mad because Buck is back to his normal self, bouncing around the firehouse, smiling and laughing.
“No Hen!” Buck whines, “hey! Give me the controller!”
“Buck!” Hen exclaims, “You can’t keep doing this when we play this game!”
“Eddie! Do something!”
Who cares if he lost, his son is happy and if is also right in his assumption, his future son-in-law is no longer sulking like a toddler. If an intervention needs to happen again, he won’t wait long this time. “Eddie!” Buck laughs out, “hurry! She’s cheating!”
Buck watches Eddie excuse himself from the conversation, he’s having with one of the other fighters to rescue Buck. The man is laughing as he plops himself down next to him. “I don’t understand why you do this all time when you play with her.”
Buck squawks, “Excuse me, I don’t do this all the time!?”
“You do!” Hen and Eddie laugh out
Maybe he won’t need to do an intervention. Eddie is looking at Buck fondly and Buck is grinning back at him. And Bobby knows that grin, Buck is totally going to be the one to propose, he’s calling it.
He called it wrong. Damn, Eddie Diaz.

Madney bringing baby Jee to the firehouse for the first time and her fav is Bobby which annoys her uncles (he’s just so chill, and has a soothing voice, babies defs love him)
So this is definitely a little different than what you were probably wanting, but The Words Just Happened Like That
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Chimney could barely contain his excitement. He had thought at first that eventually Jee-Yun would stop being the most exciting thing ever – after all when your new baby is almost a year old, she’s not really “new” anymore. But every single day brought more excitement and more joy than he ever could have imagined.
And today was especially exciting.
Maddie had finally returned from her in-patient treatment for her PPD last week, happy and glowing and wanting to share Jee with the entire world. And that world definitely included finally introducing her to the 118.
“Chim, you know you’re practically vibrating over there, right?” Hen said, looking up from her book with an arch expression.
Chimney laughed. “Why shouldn’t I be? You all finally get to see what I mean when I keep telling you those pictures don’t do her justice!”
“Hey, I’ve backed you up on that” Buck said, grinning at him upside down from over the arm of one of the couches. “She’s the best!”
Chimney grinned again, barely able to stop himself from doing an excited little hop. “Yeah,” he agreed. “She is!”

Bobby watched his team chat happily as he chopped vegetables, something deep in his heart seeming to twist inside of him. He remembered all-too-well his own joy and excitement all those years ago when he had shown his own firstborn off for the first time. He swallowed, pushing down the bittersweet memory and focusing on his cooking.
He hadn’t realized how hard this would be for him, but right now he wanted to be anywhere but here – at the very least so that he wouldn’t ruin Chimney’s excitement.
“We’re here!” Maddie called from downstairs, and in spite of his aching heart, he couldn’t help but laugh as Chimney practically flew past him, Buck and Albert hot at his heels.
“You going with them?” he asked, turning to Hen and Eddie.
“They’re just coming right back up,” Hen said, grinning. “I’m just avoiding the argument over who gets to carry her up here!”
“Exactly!” Eddie agreed.
Bobby smiled softly, turning away again, trying to ignore the ache in his heart. This was good, in spite of the memories he didn’t want to think about right now.
“Drumroll please!” Buck yelled from the stairs.
Bobby grinned, a real one this time, and began banging against the counter with a wooden spoon.
“Introducing,” Buck exclaimed, as he and Albert led the way up the steps. “The one, the only, the incomprehensibly adorable…” he and Albert stepped to the side with a flourish, revealing Chimney holding Jee-Yun in his arms, Maddie just beside him.
“Jee-Yun Buckley Han!” Albert finished, his grin rivaling Buck’s.
“Hooray!” Eddie shouted, as he and Hen clapped vigorously.
Bobby swallowed down the lump in his throat as he got caught up in the excitement of the moment. Maddie was looking at Jee as if she was the most beautiful thing in the world, and Chimney was positively glowing. Jee, for her part, was completely unimpressed with the excitement, content to chew on Chimney’s finger and ignore Hen and Eddie as they ran up, begging to hold her.
“No, no, no,” Chimney said, gently extricating his finger from Jee-Yun’s mouth. “Captain’s privilege, he gets to hold her before you yahoos!”
“Oh, no Chim,” Bobby said, his arms suddenly aching to hold the little girl. “Let them have a turn first.”
“Sorry, Bobby,” Maddie said, taking Jee away from Chim and heading over to him, her smile radiant. “Chim and I discussed the order at home, and you don’t get to rearrange it.”
The rest of the team let out a series of mock groans and Hen turned to Chim with an annoyed “Chimney…” before they all gathered together around the counter; all eyes on Jee-Yun.
Bobby nodded, suddenly not able to talk past the lump in his throat as Maddie handed Jee to him. She gave him an understanding look and stepped back, pulling a camera out of her bag. “Smile for Momma!” she told Jee, snapping a picture.
Everybody laughed as, instead of giving the instructed smile, Jee gave Maddie a dirty look and turned away from the camera.
“She’s worse about getting her picture taken than I was as a baby,” Maddie laughed, tickling Jee under her chin.
Jee giggled before looking up at Bobby, her dark eyes pensive.
“Hello, there,” Bobby greeted, looking down at the beautiful little girl in his arms. “My name is Bobby,” he told her. “I’m a friend of your parents.”
Jee grinned and reached up, grabbing his cheek with one little hand while patting his chest with the other.
“She likes you,” Maddie laughed.
“Ugoboo,” Jee agreed, leaning her head against Bobby’s shoulder.
Tears sprang to Bobby’s eyes as he rubbed her back gently. His heart hurt, but it was a good kind of hurt this time.
“Hey, no fair!” Buck said with a mock pout, leaning over the counter. It took her at least an hour before she decided she liked me!
“You don’t get to complain about that! She didn’t decide she liked me for three hours! And I lived with them for a while!” Albert groused back, still grinning at the scene in front of him.
“Bobby’s special, guys,” Hen said, her arm wrapped affectionately around Chimney. “We all knew it, and Jee-Yun has just confirmed it.”
Bobby laughed softly through his tears as he glanced around at his entire pseudo-family. “Thank you,” he said softly, looking back down at Jee. “I appreciate the vote of confidence.”

Day Twenty One: Blood Matted Hair
911: Chimney Han
Blood
Tumblr media
The first thing Chimney registers when he wakes up is how bad his head hurts. It takes him a couple moments after that to orient himself. He’s in some kind of building. The building is on fire. He’s in his turnout gear, but his helmet is sitting a few feet away, covered in scratches. His oxygen mask is still on.
“Firefighter Han, please come in.”
He scrambles for his radio. “Han 118 responding. I don’t- How long since last contact?”
“At least eight minutes,” Bobby’s voice informs him. “Can you evacuate?”
Chimney looks around. He can’t see anything through the flames except fallen support beams. “That’s a negative. I don’t know where I am, either, and I think I lost consciousness.”
His radio remains silent for a moment while Bobby likely gives his plan of action to the others to get Chimney out of here. He takes the time to do a self assessment, finding that the ground where his head had been resting is now wet with dark blood. He brings a gloved hand to his head to find his hair slicked down with more of the same. Head injuries are bleeders, he reminds himself, but he did get knocked out, which is absolutely cause for concern.
“Okay, Chim, Diaz and Wilson are headed in to look for you based on where you last reported in. Tell us about your surroundings and injuries.”
“Head injury with loss of consciousness,” he says first. “I don’t think I’m hurt elsewhere, but I’m pretty high on adrenaline right now. I’ve still got my oxygen. There’s lots of support beams around here, but they’re in bad shape. You may need a hose to get to me.”
“Copy that, Buckley and Panikkar are going with them with a hose to knock that fire back. Stay with us, Chimney, we’re getting you out of there.”
He means to respond verbally, but he just nods and lays back against the ground, where his blood has cooled to lukewarm. He watches the flames dance across the ceiling above him and thinks about Maddie and Jee-Yun. He can’t wait to see them again. He loves them so much, and when he gets home from this awful day, he just wants to cuddle up with them on the couch while a B-List movie plays.
“Come in, Firefighter Han. Stay with us.”
“I’m here, Cap,” he slurs. “I’m tired.”
“I know you are,” Hen says, her voice soothing even through the radio. “You have to stay awake, though, okay? We’ll be there soon.”
Faintly, not through the radio, he hears Eddie. “Chimney? Chimney, call out!”
“I’m here!” He yells back, even though it takes most of his remaining energy. “In here!”
Moments later, he sees Buck and Ravi come through the wall of flames, glorious water extinguishing everything within reach. Eddie and Hen are right behind them. Before he knows it, they’re next to him, securing a collar around his neck and a backboard beneath him.
“We’ve got you.”

“I really need you” please!
Thank you nonnie. this is gonna be another coda/extension of 2.03 with members of the 118 making an appearance in the story. I tweaked some of the dialog, and who said and did some things to make it fit where I was going with this. Plus it gave me an excuse to watch parts of the episode again, especially stealing the fire truck scene. 😍🤣
And @moviegeek03 thank you for being so wonderful and becoming a trusted friend. Have some of that TK whump we discussed. 😉 i’m pretty sure this is the most whump I've ever written in one setting.  This also ended up being more Judd & TK focused than Tarlos.... not sure how that happened. 🤔
Prompt was from this list. I'm officially closing that list but please feel free to send me a request if you have one and I'll see if I can do anything with it.
4 word prompts masterlist- find all completed fics & requests waiting to be written here. I've got 2 left to write after this one.
TK was exhausted. They'd been working the wildfire for a week, getting little sleep. Out of state crews were to be arriving any minute, and he was hoping that would mean they could catch a break. He just wanted a little rest, and to talk to Carlos. The few texts they'd exchanged wasn't enough anymore.
Before he was able to find a quiet spot for a call, his dad called a meeting with all the out of state crews that had arrived. He let's out a deep breath and throws on his jacket, before joining his crew. Out of town crews made him uncomfortable just because he wasn't sure he could trust them. With his team, they knew each other's moves and thoughts as they worked together. He knew they needed the help, but he was leary. His leariness remained especially when he saw some guy constantly staring at Marjan. It set his already frayed nerves on edge.
TK is gathering shovels and picks with Mateo when he learns Judd, Paul and Marjan are abandoning them with one of the 118 crew members. To say he is not happy about it would be an understatement. He tries to put on his best face though, and he can’t turn off his friendly personality even though he tries when he realizes it's the guy who stared Marj down. Plus Mateo is doing his damnedest to engage him so TK throws in his own comments to try and help because he knows how personally Mateo takes things and he just wants to protect him.
The work is hard and tiring on his already tired body. Plus Buck just doesn’t seem to want to engage with him. TK understands though; Buck is probably feeling just as abandoned as he is by his team which he tries to convey to Mateo. At least TK still has Mateo; Buck was left by both of his other team members. As they’re comparing their wildest calls, TK sees a burning car rolling down the hill at top speed at them. He doesn’t even think; he just reacts diving towards Buck with a yell at Mateo to look out.
He collides full force with Buck, knocking him out of the way. He can feel the air knocked out of himself as well as they collide with the ground. They’re up and moving before his body can even process possible injuries, the adrenaline spurring them on. Once the fire is out, and the dog is reunited with his owner, TK doubles over to catch his breath. He can feel the struggle, knowing he must have sustained some bruising to his ribs when knocking Buck out of the way. He feels a twinge in his ankle too, but ignores it. He can’t afford to be hurt though with it being all hands on deck, so he takes as deep a breath as he can and stands back up before anyone can notice.
“So that was weird,” Buck says to him as they watch the guy retrieving his dog from Mateo.
“Right?” TK says with a confused look on his face.
“Nice moves by the way. Good reflexes,” Buck says with a smile on his face before he walks off to get back to work.
“Yea you too,” TK says watching the scene and still mentally trying to asses himself. He has enough medic training to know what he should be feeling for, and when all he can come up with is the soreness in his ribs, he decides to push on.
After that, Buck opens up more to them also explaining his fixation with Marjan earlier, and it makes the day pass faster. TK does his best to ignore the aching in his ribs and ankle. Buck notices how off TK would get at times, especially when he wouldn’t take a break from digging, but he brushed off every attempt Buck made at making sure he was ok. Mateo has noticed the same thing, but he also knows when to push and when not to push TK.
By night fall, they’re heading back down the mountain, still discussing their wildest calls, and TK is limping and having to pause his talking every now and then to catch a breath. His ribs and ankle are throbbing now, and he just wants some Tylenol and bed. Mateo effectively ends their pissing contest on who has the wildest calls, but before he can even contemplate the fact that Probie was the voice of reason, they encounter the rest of their teams minus his dad and Hen.
They tease them about already having their feet up, but one look at Judd and Marjan and TK knows somethings wrong. “What? What’s wrong?” he asks feeling the panic building under his skin. It’s not ideal for his ribs, but he can’t stop it, not with the way they’re looking at him.
“You didn’t hear did you?” Marjan finally asks finding her voice first. TK is looking between all of them as he hears Buck ask, “hear what?”
Paul speaks up then, explaining how his dad and Hen went up to provide air support to find the missing kid. TK’s eyes never leave them as he listens, his breathing becoming more erratic the longer Paul talks. When he hears the fateful words that the chopper went down, he’s almost positive he stops breathing. He feels his world tilting; he feels his knees giving out, but before he hits the ground again, Judd is off the back of the ATV so fast TK is not sure how it happens.
“Woah there brother,” he says his arms coming underneath TK to catch him. TK can’t stop the whine when Judd’s hands connect with his sore ribs. “What the hell?” Judd asks him as he holds him up.
“Uh... I might can help with that,” Buck says when TK refuses to answer Judd. He explains how TK saved him from the runaway car, and how he’d been limping and breathing weird ever since. He explains that he tried to get TK to take it easy, but TK insisted he was fine and kept working.
“Of course he did,” Judd says before muttering under his breath about idiot little brothers.
“Uh... Judd,” Paul and Marjan say at the same time as TK’s erratic breathing becomes extremely apparent and his eyes glass over.
“Fuck,” Judd grunts as he takes more of TK’s weight. “Let me get him calmed down and then you can check him over,” he tells Eddie before more or less dragging TK off to the first quiet spot he can find. They’ve been down this road with TK’s panic attacks before, and Judd seemed the best to handle them.
He gets TK seated before coming around in front of him and placing his hands on TK’s shoulders. “Hey kid. Eyes on me,” he says as one of his hands come up to cradles TK’s neck to keep his head from lolling too much. He can tell TK has really worked himself up this time, by the glassy look in his eyes and how TK doesn't appear to hear him. “TK! Look at me,” he says sternly as he finally gets TK’s eyes on him. He takes TK’s hand and places it along his own chest so TK can feel his breaths.
“I’m gonna call Carlos and you’re going to focus on breathing,” Judd tells him digging in his pocket for his phone while making sure TK stays with him. “Slow and steady,” Judd reminds him as he focuses on keeping his own breaths even for TK to match.
“Gracie!” Judd says when she picks up. “I need you to get me Carlos. TK is having a panic attack, and he needs to talk to him,” Judd relays. He knows she’s working tonight, and he’s not sure about Carlos so he did the only thing he knew would guarantee Carlos would answer. It doesn’t take Grace five minutes before she has Carlos on the line. Judd quickly explains what has happened and that he needs Carlos to talk to TK.
He puts the phone on speaker so he can go back to holding TK’s head up. “Alright Reyes you’re on speaker. He can hear you,” Judd relays and he steadies his breathing once more for TK.
“Ty, you’re ok. I’m here. Judd’s there. You’re whole team is there. I know you’re tired. I know you’re exhausted, but I need you to focus on breathing for me ok?” Carlos murmurs softly. Judd can tell TK is focusing more listening to Carlos and he tells him to keep talking.
Slowly but surely TK comes back around and his breathing is more even. “Carlos,” he finally says in a choked whisper when he realizes his boyfriend is talking to him.
“Yea love, I’m here,” Carlos says as TK finally reaches for the phone from Judd.
“You good? You’re not gonna kill over on me are you?” Judd asks him as he sees TK sitting up more on his own.
“I’m good,” TK promises as Judd finally passes him the phone.
“Five minutes little brother, and then I’m letting the Army medic check you over,” he warns before giving TK time to talk to Carlos.
TK takes the phone off speaker, but he knows Carlos has already heard. “Ty? Why is the medic looking you over?” he asks TK with worry clearly seeping through his tone.
“Judd’s being overprotective as usual,” TK says but he knows Carlos doesn’t buy it. He lets out a sigh and then winces when his ribs twinge. “I’m tired, exhausted really. I saved one of the other guys from a different team today from a runaway car. The collision with the ground may or may not have bruised my ribs, and I may or may not have tweaked my ankle, but I’m fine,” he tries to stress not wanting his boyfriend to worry anymore.
“Tyler,” Carlos stresses knowing TK is not fine. If he was fine, Judd would not have had to call him tonight.
“Ok, I’m not fine,” TK admits trying to hold his tears off. “I’m hurt. I’m tired, so tired. Dad is possibly hurt or dying or we don’t know. He.. He crashed in a helicopter and no one’s heard from him, and I just... I just got him back from the cancer, and I just almost lost him last week. I just.. I can’t... I can’t... I can’t do this again. I can’t lose him. I can’t... ” he gets out in a rush with his breathing hitching and his ribs protesting.
“Easy Tiger. Breathe,” Carlos calms. “Breathe TK. It’s going to be ok.” TK tries his level best to control his breathing and stop the tears once more.
“I just really need you,” he gets out as a few stray tears fall. “I don’t think I can do this.”
TK can hear background noise and Carlos talking to someone in Spanish, before Carlos is telling him he will come. “Wait? Who was that? Where are you?” TK asks knowing Carlos rarely uses his Spanish unless he’s on the phone with his family or on a call where he needs to use it. TK doesn’t think Carlos is working, which means he must be with or around his family.
“I was at my parents,” Carlos tells him. “But I’m coming to you, ok?”
“What? No! You can’t!” TK says feeling the panic rise once more. Carlos won’t even broach the topic of his parents with him, and TK doesn’t know why. He hasn’t had the time to question Carlos on it either between Tim’s death and being called out to assist with the wildfire, but TK knows it’s something. But the last thing TK wants is to pull Carlos away from his family knowing how little time Carlos gets with them. Besides he doesn’t want Carlos near this fire either.
“TK it’s fine. I can be there within three hours. Just breathe baby,” he says when he hears TK’s hitching breath once more.
“Carlos no. Don’t. Stay with them, please,” TK begs the tears falling faster now despite how much he tries to stop them. It’s amazing how broken down and non-cooperative the body can get when it reaches the stage of exhaustion TK is in. He doesn’t want Carlos’s parents to have a bad impression of him if they know about him, or for them to be mad he’s pulling Carlos away when they rarely get to see him. It's causing his panic to rise once again.
Judd has returned to force TK into being checked over and notices the tears and erratic breathing once more. “Damn it kid,” he says as he kneels in front of him again. He once again places TK’s hand along side his chest, before putting the phone back on speaker. Carlos is doing his best to get TK to listen and calm down, but Judd finally has to speak up.
“It’s not working. Look I’m gonna see if I can get him calm,” he tells Carlos who then explains what happened. Judd sighs knowing TK’s mind is just too worn down at this point. “Drive safe,” he tells Carlos before hanging up knowing it’s useless to try and tell Carlos to stay in Austin.
“Alright kid, breathe with me,” Judd instructs as he forces TK to focus on him and breathe. Once TK is breathing normally again, Judd motions for Eddie to come over and check him out. The others have gone to the command tent to see if they can reason with the Commander. Judd would love to be in there helping them, but he knows his anger would get the best of him because he knows what the Commander is going to say. Besides TK needs him and that is his top priority right now.
Eddie checks TK over, noticing the dark bruising along his ribs. He feels of them making TK wince as he apologizes but they both know it has to be done, and while they don’t feel broken, with the bruising he thinks one might be cracked. “I’m good,” TK tries to say, but Judd ain’t buying it.
“Just let him wrap your damn ribs kid,” Judd says tossing Eddie an ace bandage. “I know you’re not gonna stay in the tent and rest, even though that’s where you should be, so at least let us make sure you’re not going to do more damage.”
TK finally relents and Eddie does his best to stabilize TK’s ribs. He then moves on to check TK’s ankle, and once his boot is removed, the swelling is obvious. Eddie feels along it and determines it is just twisted. TK had come to the same conclusion, so he lets Eddie put a brace on it to keep from making it worse. Eddie leaves them with it once he’s finished his medical assessment, knowing Judd probably needs a minute with his kid brother.
“Look I know I’m not going to be able to keep you sidelined on this,” Judd started getting a definitive agreement from TK making Judd rolls his eyes hard. “But I want you to be smart about it, and try not to make your injuries worse.”
TK does agree to that, even though they both know once he's caught up in the moment, he'll forget his promise. He doesn’t want to be laid up anymore than Judd wants him injured. “Now wanna tell me why talking to your boy sent you into another spiral?” Judd asks as he helps TK up and towards a picnic table.
“Not really,” TK murmurs as he drops down to rest.
“Fine. I won’t make you talk if you don’t want to. I know what that’s like. But you know I’m here for you bub.” At TK’s nod, Judd announces he’s going to find them food and water and for TK not to move. TK decides he needs to inform his mom what is happening, so while Judd is gone he calls her. He’s just wrapping up the call when he feels someone walking up behind him. He assumes it’s Judd returning with the promised food and water, he had no plans of touching, but is surprised to see it’s Buck with pizza.
Even though Judd had told him not to move, TK is up and moving as Buck starts to talk. He doesn’t think he can handle any small talk, and he doesn’t want to talk about how he is. He just wants to find his dad, even though he knows deep down he is in no position to go out looking for him. Even though he knows it, he doesn’t think it’s going to stop him, especially when Buck holds up keys to the fire truck.
They grab their go bags and sneak through the command center. TK is a little slower than he’d like because of his ribs and ankle, but Buck is patient with him. TK tries to talk Buck out of going so he doesn’t get fired as well, but Buck doesn’t back down. TK is thankful because he knows he’s not fully up to going this alone. He gets frustrated easily when Buck doesn’t explain his total plan and tries to divert him from the 118′s truck. He just wants to get in it and go before Judd finds him.
It doesn’t take long for Judd to gather everyone up when he gets back to the table he’d left TK at and finds it empty. Eddie is the first to piece it together when he realizes Buck is also missing. They grab backpacks and race off to the fire trucks, splitting up to surround them when they see two bodies trying to sneak around. They flip on their flashlights and Judd speaks up before the guys make it to the 126′s truck.
“Hey! Dumbass! Dumbasser!” Judd calls out making them both freeze. TK knows he’s screwed by Judd’s tone of voice. He slowly turns to face Judd and realizes Paul and Mateo are with him. He sees Buck looking the other direction, so he can only assume Marjan and Eddie are there. “Did you stop and consider the consequences of what you’re about to do at all?” Judd asks shining his light on TK making him wince hard at the bright light as Paul shines his on Buck.
TK’s theory of Marjan and Eddie coming in from the other side is confirmed when they both speak up. “You obviously don’t know Buck.”
“You two didn’t seriously think that you could sneak off and drive into wildfires did you?” Marjan asks in an accusatory tone, making TK scrunch his face with a wince feeling like a scolded kid.
“Yes?” he says, more like asks, timidly. He’s hurting, he’s exhausted. He just wants to find his dad and sleep for a month. He wants this stupid wildfire over with so he can go back home.
“Well that ain’t gonna happen,” Paul finally pipes up. TK feels the defeat creeping in until Buck stands up to them. “You think you’re gonna stop us?” he asks.
“Stop you? We’re going with you,” Mateo supplies like an excited puppy going on his first adventure. “Come on let’s go,” Eddie say as everyone starts loading up.
TK and Buck share a look as everyone jumps into the truck. TK gives Judd a skeptical look making Judd roll his eyes. “Just get in the damn truck before I change my mind,” he huffs helping TK climb up. Once everyone is in, they take off up the mountain to find their captain and Hen.
Judd does his best to keep TK from over-exerting, but it’s useless. As soon as the truck stopped, TK was out and racing for the helicopter despite his limp. Judd watched from the sidelines as TK crawled all over it, screaming for his dad. He knew they weren’t there though; he knew Owen would’ve tried to get them somewhere safer. He can see the defeat creeping in to TK’s face. He decides to take the lead and tells everyone to fan out. He grabs TK and makes him come with him so he can keep an eye on him. He takes the backpack off TK’s back so it’s less he’s carrying and exerting himself.
Once Hen and Owen are found, Judd can’t stop TK from climbing into the mine to get to his dad. He knows TK is probably doing more damage to his ankle and ribs, but he can’t stop him. They’re able to get both Hen and Owen out safely and loaded in the trucks. TK sits next to his dad the whole way back, telling him over and over he’s going to be ok even though Owen is unconscious.
Since they were able to complete the rescue safely, their reprimands are minimal. Once they’re dismissed from the Commander, Judd steers TK to the medical tent. “No argument,” he says gruffly when he sees TK start to protest. “You are hurt. You are exhausted, and brother, I’ve lived through the kinda panic attack you hard earlier. You are resting. You are getting fluids and a proper medical assessment even if I have to tie your ass to the bed.”
“That won’t be necessary Judd,” they hear turning towards the voice. Carlos is standing there in uniform watching them. He’d used his badge and uniform shamelessly to get through to San Angelo as quickly as he could after hanging up with TK. He hadn’t explained it to his parents, just told them he had to go, and here he was.
TK’s eyes filled with tears before he could stop them. Carlos had really come. He was here. TK all but collapses in his arms, and Carlos catches him as always. “I’ll leave ya to it,” Judd says clasping Carlos’s shoulder before he goes to check on the captain.
Carlos gets TK over to a bed, and TK clings to him when Carlos tries to lay him down. “I’m not going anywhere Tiger,” he whispers as he finally gets TK stretched out. A medic comes and checks TK over, Judd having sent her over after detailing what he knew of TK’s condition. She starts an iv to run fluids before listening to his lungs. She doesn’t think anything is broken, but she does advise he take it easy in case one is cracked. She elevates his ankle wrapping it in ice and suggesting he rest for the time being. Carlos sits by his bed the whole time carding his finger through TK’s hair.
“I’m sorry you left your parents,” TK says quietly.
“Don’t,” Carlos tells him as he softly kisses him. “You needed me, and here I am. I always said I would come if you needed, and that doesn’t change just because I’m visiting my parents.”
TK gives him a sleepy nod, Carlos’s fingers working like magic as always to relax him. “Rest TK, and then we’ll go home and you can rest some more.” TK turns into Carlos’s touch giving a sleepy nod, before he lets his body succumb to the exhaustion and he falls fast asleep.
The out of town crews are dismissed while TK is sleeping. Eddie and Buck both check in on TK and see Carlos sitting beside him watching him sleep. They leave their numbers and well wishes with Carlos before following Hen to check on the captain. They let her have a moment with him, while they say goodbye to the rest of the team. The 126 decide to all catch some sleep now that the wildfire is contained. They know they’ll be dismissed to return to Austin soon, but they all need some much needed sleep. They check in on their Strand boys before they all crash for some much needed rest.
It’s the next day before they load the truck to head home. TK decides to ride back with Carlos letting his dad have room to stretch out in the back of the truck to rest as Judd drives them home. He’s still feeling the exhaustion, and he’s glad they have mandated time off. His head lolls against the window as Carlos drives them home. He knows over the next few days they’ll have to talk about his panic attack and how he freaked out again over Carlos’s parents, but for now he’s just glad to be back with Carlos and almost home.

Tumblr media
It was the shock, you thought to yourself, it had to be, why else would your mind keep drifting to the ceiling, why had you let your husband, Eddie Diaz, paint it like that? You’d have to remind him to change it, you decided, eyes going blurry as the pain in your head intensified.
Why were you even looking at the ceiling anyway? Oh right... you were on the floor. But why were you on the floor? That was a pretty silly place to be, had you fallen?
No, you remembered, groaning in pain as you slowly brought your arm up to your head, it was wet and warm, blood... You’d been pushed, you remembered now, Eddie and Christopher had gone shopping but you’d insisted on staying at home, you’d had some paperwork to take care of and you’d wanted a nice soak in the bath... That’s when it happened, you’d heard noises downstairs while the water was running so you’d turned it off to listen, thinking your boys were home early.
You’d gone to greet the footsteps making their way up the stairs, stopping in your tracks on the landing when you saw a man that was very much not your husband, black mask over his face, bag in one hand and bat in another. He’d paused too, clearly surprised to see you, and you’d stood facing each other for what felt like a strangely long time, each of you wondering what you were supposed to do now.
Then you’d tried to step away, that’s right, you realised, and he’d lunged as you turned, grabbing you to stop you from running as you screamed, throwing your elbow back and making contact with his face as he stumbled back, allowing you a second to scramble forward before he regained his balance. He’d swung out with his bat, connecting with your side as you stumbled into a unit, you hadn’t fallen over but you’d been stalled long enough for the man to reach for you and grab you by the hair, tossing you onto the ground hard.
You’d rolled over to try and crawl away but he’d grabbed your leg, pulling you back and connecting his fist with your face, taking a bat to your stomach as you tried to claw at him, doubling in pain as you screamed for help in the hopes that anyone could actually hear you.
He hadn’t liked that, hitting you again to try as he yelled at you to “shut up bitch”, but you were a Buckley, you’d been raised to be scrappy, to fight back, so when you’d managed to get one leg free enough you aimed your knee directly into his groin with all your strength, using his temporarily stunned state to scramble to your feet and run to the stairs.
Sadly, it wasn’t temporary enough, and you’d been struck again, one foot hovering over the first step as the bat connected to the lower part of your back. No matter how hard you tried to hold on to the bannister you’d lost your footing, folding into yourself as you tumbled helplessly down the stairs.
Then it had gone dark.
Not for long, that much you were sure of, you could still hear rummaging in your kitchen, or maybe your living room, the sound of things smashing and furniture falling was probably what aroused your from your short unconscious state. Still, this wasn’t good, your head felt heavy and you were so dizzy you thought you’d pass out again if you tried to sit up. Or worse, you thought, and your assailant would discover you were awake again, if he even thought you were still alive.
Where was Eddie? You felt a tear slip down your face as you stared at the blood on your hand. A shadow fell over part of your person and you let out and involuntary sob, straining your eyes to see the man, bag full of your things, tightening his grip on his bat.
You readied yourself for a blow that never came, for as he began to take a step towards you, sirens sounded from down the street, causing him to freeze in alarm, glancing around before running back into your kitchen, presumably out your back door.
Seconds later your front door was being thrown open, the neighbours must have heard the commotion after all, as Athena ran in, gun in hand, holstering it and falling to her knees beside you when she spotted you at the bottom of the stairs.
“Y/N!” She exclaimed, hands going straight to your head
“Back... door...” You managed to mumble and she ordered her men to pursue him while she radioed for an ambulance stat, heading momentarily into another room to grab a cloth to apply pressure to your head.
It was agonising, but at least you were alive, you were safe. “I got you,” Athena reassured you, doing a quick scan of your body for any other immediate damage. “You’re going to be okay Y/N, it’s going to be okay.”
“Eddie- He’s out with Christopher...” You managed to start saying, but you didn’t need to finish for her to know what you meant.
“I’ll call him, he can meet us at the hospital, Buck and Maddie too, don’t worry,” She radioed dispatch again to tell them to hurry up as your eyes sight began to narrow, darkness at the edges of your vision threatening to consume you.
You could hear more sirens now, but they sounded like they were getting further away and not closer, or maybe you were just losing consciousness, you realised as you eye lids started to drop.
“No, no, Y/N, stay awake for me okay,” Athena put her hand on the side of your face looking you in the eyes as you tried to force them back open. “The ambulance is here now okay, it’s going to be okay.” You were vaguely away of paramedics rushing in, not ones that you recognised though as Athena reluctantly stepped aside to let them take a look at you.
They were talking, but you couldn’t really make out what they were saying as they hauled you onto a backboard and took you outside, loading you into the ambulance. Athena looked like she wanted to climb in with you, but she couldn’t leave her car, so she said something about following behind, and that they had to take good care of you, but by that point all you wanted to do was sleep.
So, despite the paramedics trying to tell you otherwise as the ground beneath you began to move, you let your eyes finally close and you drifted away.
-
There was bright white light when you woke up, and you struggled to open your eyes, willing them to focus as you heard noise in the room. A hand was in yours, and as soon as you began to try and move your head to get a sense of your surroundings you heard someone stand up, holding your hand tighter as they looked over you.
You relaxed and smiled when you realised who it was, realised where you were. “Eddie,” you muttered and he kissed your hand, calling in a doctor to check on you.
“I’m so glad you’re awake,” his voice cracked, relief rushing over him, but concern still in his eyes.
“How long was I out?” You asked, realising just how dry your mouth and throat were. Trying to swallow you glanced around for some water, struggling to reach the cup you could see on the side as Eddie brought it to your lips.
“A few hours, you had a bit of a minor bleed from where you hit your head, the doctors went in to stop it so you were under for a bit,” he explained as you drank, never knowing lukewarm water to taste so good. “You scared me, I thought- I love you and-” he admitted, or tried to, stroking the side of your face gently as he spoke.
You kissed his hand lightly as he put the water away. “I love you too, and I’m okay, I have a new found respect for pinatas, but I’m okay,” you smiled as he laughed moving away to give a doctor who had just entered space to check you out.
On his heels came Buck and Christopher, Maddie just behind them, all clearly relieved that you were okay. Christopher came to give you a hug as the doctor checked over your charts.
“You woke up!” Eddie picked him up slightly to hug you, aware of your limited mobility as you tried to sit up to hug him, very much feeling the bruise on your stomach as you wrapped your arms around him tightly.
You could tell he’d been crying, not wanting to let you go as Maddie came and squeezed your hand, Buck planting a kiss on the top of your head as Christopher hung onto you.
“Okay buddie let’s give her some space,” Eddie suggested, lightly pulling Christopher away from you as you tried not to wince, not wanting him to see you in any pain.
“How’s you head?” He asked carefully.
“That’s what I was about to ask,” the doctor on your other side said and you turned to face him. “Dr Finch,” he introduced himself, offering out a hand for you to shake.
“It’s definitely sore, but I’ll manage,” you informed him, noticing how he kept glancing at your chart, then back to you, and then to your visitors, his eyes suggesting that maybe there was more that you didn’t know. “I am okay, aren’t I doc?”
You felt Eddie’s hand slip back into yours as Doctor Finch reviewed your chart. “Are you the husband?” He asked and Eddie nodded, face serious as Doctor Finch tapped his pen against the clipboard. “Maybe it would be best if we had a little bit of privacy,” he said finally, glancing to your siblings and Christopher.
“I want to stay!” Christopher argued but Buck put a hand on his shoulder, face fully of worry.
“It’s okay, we’ll be right outside,” Buck told him as he tried to lead him out, only going after a pleading look from his father.
“Right outside,” Maddie repeated gently, the unsaid promise that they’d be here for you no matter what being very clear as she relunctantly followed the other two back into the hall.
Only when the door was closed did you turn back to the doctor, squeezing Eddie’s hand tighter. “So...?” What was going on? Had they found something during the surgery? You mind was swirling with guesses as you awaited an answer.
“Well Mrs Diaz, while we were conducting your blood tests we discovered a change in your hCG levels, that means-” you interrupted him then, knowing full well what that meant.
“I’m pregnant?” You finished for him, swallowing hard as you looked to your husband, who was in turn looking back at you in shock.
“Yes,” Doctor Finch replied, but there was a grave look on his face as your hand drifted to your belly, memories of that bat flashing through your mind.
“Am I... still pregnant?” You asked tentatively, fear building up inside you as you realised why he’d wanted just the two of you in here.
“That’s what you’re here to find out, right?” Eddie asked the doctor as he stroked his thumb over your hand, trying to sooth your nerves, or his own, as the doctor nodded, getting an ultrasound machine ready.
You took a shaky breath as Eddie kissed you, eyes full of love and worry. “It’s okay, we’ll be okay,” he muttered to you as Doctor Finch asked you to life up your hospital shirt, applying cold cream to your belly.
“Am I okay to proceed?” He checked, scanner in hand as you looked to be blank monitor, dreading what was about to appear on the screen. You and Eddie had talked about having children some day, but you’d only been married six months and with the demanding jobs you both had, it wasn’t something you’d been trying for right now. But still...
“Do it,” you told him, eyes not leaving that screen as you felt the pressure of the scanner, Doctor Finch moving it around slowly as you and Eddie watched on. It didn’t seem like either of you were breathing as the agonisingly slow seconds ticked by. You’d shut your eyes, trying to stop yourself from crying, when you’d heard that thump, that unmistakable sound of a heart beat, and you heard Eddie let out a sigh of relief.
Opening your eyes you stared at the small and blurry image on the screen, a smile spreading across your face as Eddie leaned his head against yours. Doctor Finch paused the monitor on a good angle and turned to you.
“Congratulations,” he told you both sincerely.
“Is it okay?” You asked, eyes fixated on the screen as he handed you some paper towels to wipe off the gels. Your hand staying on your belly after you did.
“I’d certainly like to keep you here, at least over night, to monitor everything, you suffered a fair amount of bodily trauma and you’d definitely have to take it very easy, but from what I’m seeing right now, that’s a healthy baby,” he explained, excusing himself so you and Eddie could process this in private.
“I’ll be back in to check on you very soon, would you like me to send in the others?” He asked and you and Eddie looked to each other, joy on both your face as you agreed.
They came in quickly, still looking concerned, but that soon fell when they saw your faces.
“Well your faces don’t say that you’re dying...” Buck noted.
“What’s going on?” Maddie wondered as Christopher came over to you and Eddie, his father kneeling down to his level and tustling his hair.
“Is everything okay?” He asked.
“Everything great kiddo,” Eddie replied, Maddie wandering over to you as you looked at Eddie and Christopher, your family was here, and it was about to be getting a little bigger.
“We do have some news though,” you told them, realisation dawning on Maddie’s face as Buck looked on confused.
“What kind of news?” He asked as Maddie’s hands went to her mouth.
“Oh my god,” you practically squealed as Buck continued to look at his two sisters.
“Oh my god what, Y/N what’s going on?” Maddie bent down to tug you tightly so Buck turned to Eddie, “can someone tell me what’s going on?”
“We’re having a baby,” Eddie said softly, still looking at his son to gage his reaction.
“Wait, seriously?” Buck’s mouth dropped as Maddie pulled away, both of you wiping tears from your eyes as you nodded to your brother, his confused expression turning overjoyed as he laughed, coming over to hug you next.
“A baby? I’m going to be a big brother?” Christopher repeated, looking from you to his dad and then back again.
“You okay with that Chris?” Eddie asked genuinely.
“Of course!” He replied, grinning wildly, hugging his dad as Eddie lifted his off of his feet.
Soon the whole room was full of congratulations and hugs, your hand barely leaving your belly as you watched your family, so grateful for everything you had, all the love in the room.
This was going to be one lucky baby.

sacrifical. buck/eddie. 1396 words. getting together. read on ao3. written for @eddiediazweek.
When the alarm rang, it was at the tail end of a twenty-four-hour shift, with every single member of the 118 exhausted. They had been going on call after call throughout the shift, barely had time to eat any real meals, and had just arrived at the station house when it had gone off, everyone sighing in frustration as they turned around, shoulders slumped.
The drive to the next call was quick - according to Bobby, it was a five-alarm fire at an abandoned college turned mental hospital, something that was never fun under any circumstances. The entire set of buildings were on fire, which is why it was a five-alarm in the first place, with numerous teams having been sent out and arrived already. But by the time the team had arrived themselves -- it almost looked like nothing had been done, like the wind had changed direction and the fire had roared harder than it was when it had started.
Once the truck had stopped completely, Eddie had jumped out from it with Buck by his side. The two of them had made their way towards the building, Bobby shouting after them, something that they couldn’t really understand with the roar of the wind. Their radios had crackled with life a few moments later though, telling them to find the incident commander and report what they were doing afterward.
It took them both a few minutes to locate him, but eventually, they did, and it was then that they learned that the set of buildings had been squatted in by numerous families and both men --
Both men had run inside knowing what they needed to do, knowing that there were families inside that needed to be saved. Working together, they called out, hoping to hear some sort of response.
Eventually, though, their radios went off once more, telling everyone to evacuate the building, that the building was beyond saving, and Eddie --
Eddie hated it. They hadn’t found anyone in the wing they had chosen, and as Buck and himself dragged their feet to get out of there, still calling out for people, Eddie knew that the longer they went with no one returning their calls --
Before he could think about what that meant exactly, he could feel the floor falling out from under his feet, the steps in front of him leading outside so close - close enough that he quickly grabbed onto the edge of one of them, screaming Buck’s name and looking behind him, a small breath of relief escaping from him when he sees Buck hanging onto his legs. It’s uncomfortable, and he can feel his grip loosening on the stairs, can see one of the stairs above him begin to splinter and crack, and even over the roar of the fire, he can hear Buck calling his name.
Craning his neck to look behind him, Eddie’s eyes widen when he sees Buck looking at him, looking at the ground below him.
“Don’t you fucking dare, Buck!” Eddie shouts, shaking his head as the stairs continue to crack.
“You know I have to, Eddie,” Buck responds and Eddie can’t help but continue shaking his head, eyes beginning to water.
“I have to let go, Eddie. If I don't, Chris loses us both. This way ---” Buck pauses here, and Eddie shakes his head once more. “I’m letting go. You can get up the rest of the stairs, get help, and come back for me,” Buck adds.
“Please don’t do this,” Eddie says, though he’s not sure if Buck can hear him - not when the other man lets go as he does, and Eddie screams, watching Buck fall.
**** Eddie finds himself sitting at Buck’s bedside, eyes rimmed red and hands joined as he waits for his best friend to wake up. Watching him, Eddie can’t help but think about the date he was going to ask Buck on later - the date that Eddie had no idea if Buck could ever agree to now, if he didn’t wake up.
When Buck had let go - when he had fallen into the flames, getting knocked out to the point of his PASS alarm going off, Eddie had forced himself to climb up the rest of the stairs, radioing in immediately after, stating he had a man down.
The rest of the 118 had known immediately it was Buck and had come to help, had come to save the two of them because there was no way Eddie was leaving without Buck. Even with the incident commander yelling at them to get out of the building - the team didn’t.
The team saved them, even with the building collapsing around them.
And then they had all rushed to the hospital, Eddie riding along in the ambulance, unable to let go of Buck’s hand because he had stopped breathing, and Eddie --
Eddie couldn’t lose Buck. So now he was sitting at Buck’s bedside, knowing that Buck was alive and generally alright, that he just needed to wake up and he still hadn’t. All Eddie wanted was for the other man to do so, just so he could give Buck hell for causing him this kind of grief.
“He’s going to be alright, you know,” Chimney says and Eddie finds himself blinking, not quite sure when Chim had entered the room. He knows if it was any other moment in time, he would be jumping in surprise but he’s too tired, too worried.
“I know,” Eddie ends up whispering, squeezing Buck’s hand hopeful he wakes up sooner rather than later.
“Eddie,” Chim says, and he steps closer towards them, but Eddie shakes his head. Not because he doesn’t want to hear whatever their friend has to say, but because he knows he’s going to cry the moment Chim starts talking, and Eddie is done crying.
“Eddie,” Chim tries one more time and Eddie looks at him briefly out of the corner of his eye, a small sigh escaping from him before he looks away from Chim and closes his eyes once more, bringing his head down to kiss at Buck’s knuckles in his hand.
“I can’t, Chim. Not right now,” Eddie says after a few minutes, opening his eyes to look at the man he’s in love with and never got an opportunity to tell.
“He’s going to wake up,” Eddie hears and he can’t help but smile.
“I know, Chim. I have no doubts about that,” he responds, voice soft, eyes unwavering from Buck’s form.
“Do you know why?” Chim asks and Eddie finds himself frowning, turning to look towards him in confusion, shaking his head.
“Because,” Chim says after a few minutes, stepping forward and placing his hand on Eddie’s shoulder, squeezing it with a soft smile before he continues, “Because he has you and Chris to fight for. Because he loves you two, loves you in ways he’s been looking for for so long,” Chim finishes and Eddie lets out a sob, placing his head down on the bed by Buck’s thigh, squeezing his hand once more.
“I just need him awake so I can call him an idiot and then kiss him senseless,” Eddie admits, his voice a soft whisper. He feels Chim squeeze his shoulder once more, a small chuckle escaping from him that has Eddie frowning.
“Then maybe you should look up, Eddie,” he hears and without thought, his eyes widen and his head snaps up, looking towards Buck, who is starring in return.
“Hi,” Buck whispers and Eddie lets out another sob, moving up to kiss Buck lightly before pulling back briefly.
“You idiot,” he whispers.
“So I heard,” Buck responds, a soft smile forming on his face, his hand raised as he caresses Eddie’s cheek and Eddie closes his eyes, touching Buck’s forehead with his own after a minute.
“Never do that again, alright?” Eddie asks, voice soft as Buck nods and hums in response.
“I’ll try not to,” Buck adds, and Eddie lets out a chuckle, shaking his head before pulling away, staring at Buck, unable to look away.
“I love you,” he whispers, ignoring the way his heart pounds fast and hard inside of his chest as Buck grins.
“I love you too, Eds,” Buck says, squeezing his hand, just before the rest of the team makes their way through the doors, Maddie carrying Chris, the team all checking in on Buck themselves.

You stood at the counter, aggressively chopping up a head of lettuce, when someone bumped into you from behind.
"Woah!" you laughed and set the knife down before turning around. Eddie's back faced you, and he was barely holding onto a tray of the special dessert he said he was making tonight. "You see, this is why you announce your presence in the kitchen, we avoid interactions like these." you turned back around to the lettuce.
"Well I'm sorry Gordon Ramsay, we can't all be perfect chefs." he smiled at you and set the tray down on the counter space next to you. You rolled your eyes.
"Almost done out here!" you heard Bobby yell from the lower floor. He was out working on the grill for the main course.
"Now that is Gordon Ramsay." you chuckled.
"COMING THROUGH." you and Eddie both looked to the voice coming up the stairs. Chim and Buck were carrying two platters of meat.
"Geez, are we having a party? I thought this was just a house dinner." you made a face at Eddie.
"Well Cap is taking a few days of vacation, so he said he'd make extra to last us while he was gone since he knows the rest of us can't cook." Chim explained.
"Won't." Buck corrected. "I'm telling y'all right now, I can cook. I just choose not to."
"Buck please," Chim stopped what he was doing to turn to him. "Maddie told me about last week's chicken."
"One time! I leave the grill unattended ONE TIME." Buck threw his hands up in the air. You all started having a laughing fit.
"Well if it's any constellation, I know I'm fairly new, but I can definitely cook." you smiled to yourself, scraping the pile of lettuce you had cut into a bowl.
"I don't know if I would call making a salad a form of cooking." Buck raised an eyebrow. You shook your head at him.
"I'm on salad duty because Cap is in charge of dinner. I can actually cook though, I CAN COOK." you repeated and yelled out, hoping that Bobby could hear you.
"We'll see about that (L/N)!" Bobby yelled back up.
"I think you just got yourself into a kitchen battle." Eddie nudged you with his elbow. You smirked at him.
"I'm not worried."
"I'll volunteer myself to be a judge." Buck bowed his head to you before heading back down to the lower floor with Chim. You sighed and finished mixing together the salad.
"What?" Eddie looked over to you, looking almost concerned.
"Nothing I just," you paused, smiling at your thoughts. "I don't think I've ever had a bad moment here at the 118."
"Oh yeah?" he leaned his hip on the counter, crossing his arms.
"Everyone was so welcoming, and you're all so... unique. In a good way!" you laughed and touched his arm. "And you were the first one to offer me an invitation to hang out outside of work, so thank you for that. I've been here, what? Almost two months? But I really think I can call you my first real friend here." you started tearing up.
"A- are you crying?" he ducked his head to try and meet your eyes, and chuckled when you smiled. You nodded and he brought you in for a soft, but meaningful hug.
"I just, I didn't have anything like this back home." you mumbled into his chest and he stroked your hair. "And I love hanging out with you and Christopher, it's like a breath of fresh air, you know? You all have really become my family."
He chuckled again and released you so he could bring his hands to the sides of your face and wipe your tears with his thumbs. "Yeah, yeah I do know." he sighed. "We're all so lucky to have you here." you blinked, trying to dry out your eyes so you'd stop crying. "And for the record, Christopher loves hanging out with you too. In fact he uh, he's been asking me to invite you over for dinner again soon." he dropped his hands from your face.
"Oh so it's his invitation, is it?" you raised a brow.
"Well I mean, it was more of a suggestion that we-"
"What's the hold up?" Cap called out from the top of the stairs. You and Eddie turned towards him. "Foods ready, and the table is empty. Let's get the table set so we can eat!"
"Yeah I'm starving." Buck said, pulling out a chair, but Cap caught his shoulder.
"Setting up the table means you, Buck." Buck sighed in defeat and went to set out the placemats. You turned to Eddie, patting under your eyes.
"We can uh, talk later?" you gave him a soft smile.
"Uh, yeah. Yeah that works." he smiled towards the floor. "Come on, let's get this food out there.
