hi mike! I love your work so dearly. OI'm currently writing my undergraduate thesis on the way time is treated in lake mungo and your version of hill house, and I'm having a grand ol' time! for some reason, I had a memory of you saying that Lake Mungo and Don't Look Now both served as inspiration for the Bent-Neck Lady, but I can't find that aaaaaanywhere. any thoughts on why I thought that?

It's certainly true, and I've said it in interviews and Q&A's over the years - not sure where you can find it in print, but both Lake Mungo and Don't Look Now are absolutely inspirations for the Bent-Neck Lady. Both deal beautifully with the idea of a protagonist being haunted by a premonition, and there are other great examples as well, including an episode of the original Twilight Zone series called "Spur of the Moment", which puts an interesting twist on the concept.

Premonitions…

This is probably going to sound really odd, but do any of you ever get premonitions? Because I sometimes do, and I just have this overwhelming feeling that I’m going to get pregnant this year…now here’s the problem, I’m single and demisexual….so I don’t know how that’s gonna happen 🤔. Unless one of the suitors at work gets up of their butt and starts the romancing, and even then, ewww, I don’t want them near me for a looonnnnggggg time, not until I know for sure they’re not like my ex. So, we’ll see what happens.

My soul wanders through a world, lit only by the eary blueish gleam of moonlight. Cool drops of condensation blanket everything, shimmering as if covered in a fine glitter. A heavy fog is rolling in on the ever shifting desert sands. With it comes frantic echoing whispers saturated with omens of impending chaos.

Sometimes, I have premonitions in my dreams. It's usually a warning that something bad is about to happen. I've had a few while I was awake, but it was more like I knew what was going to happen but couldn't really explain how I knew? I just did. It's honestly scary, but I'm pretty sure the last one saved my life. Maybe I'll tell you that story one day.

I'm still learning about all that dreams have to offer. Astral travel and how to recognize you are doing it is my new fixation (again, but I have new information and now I am revisiting every dream I had with new information... info dump).
