Trump has so many charges against him that he's almost certainly going to be convicted of something. Not everything, probably not even a majority, but something. He knows he won't get unanimous acquittals across the board, so his only hope will be to slip loyalists onto some of the juries to hang them. A mistrial means months or years of delays as prosecution works each case through the system all over again.
In New York, he'd be retried over and over until a unanimous verdict is reached, guilty or not guilty, however long that takes, and every state level Republican candidate from now on will campaign on promises to drop the charges or pardon him or help him in some way, shape, or form.
In Georgia (he hasn't been indicted yet, but it's coming), he's going to be pardoned almost immediately. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets pardoned before it even goes to trial. Yeah, the governor refused to find 11,000 votes for him, but he's still a Republican and trump is still the leader of his party. If he didn't pardon trump, he would be crucified by his voters and shamed out of office, and his successor would pardon him instead. If he stood his ground and couldn't be bullied into resigning, then just as in New York every Republican candidate would run on the pardon promise platform. Trump will NEVER face justice in Georgia.
In the federal case in Florida, a mistrial means the judge, a trump appointee, could drop the charges and prevent the DOJ from retrying it. Best case scenario, it would get delayed into 2025 or 2026 and a different judge in the southern district of Florida will be randomly assigned to it, but that's assuming Biden wins re-election in 2024. If trump wins, he'd immediately pardon himself, or invoke the 25th to have his loyalist VP pardon him to avoid a Supreme Court decision on a self-pardon's validity. If Biden wins, the 2028 Republican candidates will all run on promises to pardon him, so he'll be out of prison the second the White House goes red. I don't trust Democrats to hold the line long enough for him to die in prison.
The federal case in Washington, DC looks open and shut, the best chance for a conviction. Trump only has four appointees in that district, so the odds of him getting off on a retrial in case of a hung jury are 4 in 13, 30.77% (4/15, 26.67% if Biden can fill the two remaining vacancies). Again, all this does is kick the can down the road until 2025 or 2026. He will walk free whenever the Republicans take back power.
The only way donald trump faces long term consequences for his crimes is if New York stays solid blue for the rest of his life, something like the next 15 or 20 years. The federal charges will disappear the second one of his allies gets elected president; I don't think the party would nominate him for a fourth time in 2028 if he loses 2024 for them, so it's looking like it's gonna be ron desantis vs Kamala Harris (God help us all). Then again, who knows? A lot can happen in the next 5 years, so maybe some nobody will be frontrunner by then and desantis will have slinked away into post-gubernatorial obscurity like Jeb and Charlie Crist. Whoever trump endorses will be the nominee, so whoever strokes his ego the hardest will have hometeam advantage. My money says it'll be some blonde woman or a lightskinned black guy for diversity points (whoever it is, they'll be even farther right than trump himself)

The Nazi régime in Germany fell in 1945. Its criminals are still being prosecuted.
From June 1943 to April 1945, she worked as a stenographer and typist  at the Stutthof death camp, near what was then Nazi-occupied Danzig and is now Gdansk. An estimated 65,000 people died at Stutthof, including Jewish prisoners, Polish partisans and Soviet Russian prisoners of war.
The prosecution had said the defendant's clerical work "assured the smooth running of the camp" and gave her "knowledge of all occurrences and events at Stutthof."
Defense attorneys had called for their client to be found not guilty, arguing she was unaware of the scope of the murder and crimes committed at the camp.
The judges in the case had visited the former Stutthof camp to clarify which areas she could see from her office at the time. They concluded that it was "simply beyond imagination" that she had not noticed the mass killings.
"During her time at Stutthof, the defendant did not remain unaware of what was happening there," Dominik Groß, the presiding judge, said.
Irmgard F. remained silent during much of the trial, but said toward the end: "I'm sorry for everything that happened. I regret that I was in Stutthof at the time. I can't say anything else."
This should serve as a warning to Russians committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Ukraine. They will never be let off the hook. If any are still alive in 2099, they will be prosecuted. There should be no amnesty for such crimes.

George Soros spent more than $40 million in the past decade to elect scores of liberal prosecutors in half of America's largest jurisdictions, many of which are now roiled by crime.
The Democratic megadonor has backed 75 so-called justice reform prosecutors through direct contributions, PACs, and other third-party entities, the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund revealed in a June report. Though many had little prosecutorial experience when elected, they represent 72 million Americans in some of the nation's most populous municipalities. Ten Soros prosecutors, including Philadelphia district attorney Larry Krasner (D.) and Los Angeles district attorney George Gascon (D.), received $13 million in just the last four years, going on to win races where they had vastly outraised their competition—sometimes by as much as 90 percent. In each race, Soros was the single greatest donor to the campaign.

Crimea has been under Russian occupation since 2014. The war with Ukraine began that year, it was expanded this year.
So Olga Valeeva, recently crowned Mrs Queen Beauty - Crimea 2022, got into trouble with Russian overlords for singing a Ukrainian song.
A Crimean beauty queen has been fined 40,000 Russian rubles (around $680) by occupying Russian authorities for singing the patriotic Ukrainian song “Chervona Kalyna,” according to Russian state media and pro-Russian regional authorities.
[ ... ]
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Crimea said in a video that it identified a video online in which “two girls sang a song that is the battle anthem of an extremist organization.”
It said that the pair were detained on suspicion of “committing illegal actions aimed at discrediting the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, as well as publicly displaying prohibited symbols.”
“Chervona Kalyna” dates back to the 1870s. In Ukrainian the song is called «Ой у лузі червона калина».
Shortly after the Russians invaded, Andriy Khlyvnyuk (Андрій  Хливнюк) of the band BoomBox (Бумбокс) made this short video of himself singing part of it a cappella.
youtube
It’s gotten over 953,000 views on YouTube so far.
But the Andriy Khlyvnyuk vid has been remixed numerous times. The remixes with the original have easily gotten over 10 million views.
My favorite remix is by Foma Daemon – perhaps a fan of Prince Daemon Targaryen. After the remix we hear a child singing it for the last 20 seconds of the vid.
youtube
This might be considered a remix. Singers from the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre gave a live performance of it in Lithuania to a large audience. The black and white pictures on the screen in back which are shown before the seven singers join in seem to be from Lithuania’s short struggle with the USSR in 1990 when the Baltic states regained independence.
youtube
Even if you don’t understand the lyrics, you’ll easily recognize the song after hearing it just a couple of times.
It’s a great tune – and cheers to Olga Valeeva for daring to sing it!

// on death //
So the seconds pass. And the time capsule empties. The sand sifts through under the weight of borrowed time and the downward spiral of life. But something else is elevating. Your soul from your body. It is leaving. And you watch the breaths fade away. One by one. And there's a reassuring sense that it will end. The suffering will go away. When indeed it is your life perishing. I don't know whether your life flashes infront of your eyes, because last I saw you; you had forgotten most of yourself in the haze of dementia. But you're not scared. You're ready. How are you ready? When I am here dumbfounded at the realisation that it is my hand you hold as you say goodbye and breathe your last.
Why did you choose me?
Or was it a coincidence.
A divine plan.
Or life's serendipity.
I don't know.
But I know this. I'll never be the same again.
You breathed your last and left.
But a piece of me left with you.
And the other day.
When I stood next to your grave. As the wind blew. And it no longer felt like summer. The autumn wisp set a chill down my spine as I saw you. Six feet underneath.
Did you know I was there?
Probably not.
But the clouds came over and those long delicate ferns started to sway around me. And the sweet aroma of rose petals filled my tears with a familiar taste.
A scent of nostalgic loss.
I agree.
This isn't the first time I have had to endure this.
But it feels like reliving every death all over again.
And I keep wondering how I walked you over that bridge. I felt the angel of death over me. And I let you go. I let you slip away.
Why were you so determined to leave?
But you left. This life is temporary. And if I were to meet you on the other side, will it be forever?
Will it be without pain and suffering ?
Will immortality make my never ending intrusive thoughts, mortal? And will they finally be asleep.
But for now, they are wide awake.
Poucing at my carcass.
Sniffing for what remains of you.
A remnant of what you left behind. And a testament to what continues to live.
A piece of me still bleeds, missing what you took from me.
And I don't know whether it belonged to you or me.
I guess death only means something when it is shared. And when a funeral leaves the doorway. It carries more than one body.

The lack of intent isn’t an adequate defense for criminal acts in the Information Age.

“This was a reference to an ill-defined convention under which neither criminal nor civil proceedings can be brought against the monarch as head of state. The monarch has been given personal immunity from swathes of British law, ranging from animal welfare to workers’ rights.
However, an investigation by the Guardian has previously highlighted the extent to which this practice gives the monarch immunity for his conduct as a private citizen, affording protection to the king’s privately owned assets and estates.
More than 30 laws stipulate, for example, that police are barred from entering the privately owned Balmoral and Sandringham estates without the king’s permission to investigate possible crimes, including wildlife offences and environmental pollution. No other private landowner in the country is given such legal immunity.”
Transparency?
I thought no one is above the law.
Baring in mind this is 2024.
