Lachlan Barrett. Your brain swirls, trying to place the name with some snippet from the journal or some other odd place you’ve heard the name before. It feels strangely familiar but, at the same time, unfamiliar. 

As you’re thinking, Lachlan takes a step toward your group. Immediately, Ewan tenses, growling so low in his chest that you can feel the vibrations in your stomach. Simultaneously, Tabaeus hisses from behind you, quiet and soft and sharp. Sandwiched between your companions, you hardly feel threatened, but the predatory air - plus Ewan and Tabaeus’s reaction - piques concern in your gut.

“Please, try not to kick up too much of a fuss,” Lachlan chuckles, though he does not take another step closer. He inclines his head to Tabaeus and Ewan, flashing them a look over the edges of his sunglasses with a pointy-toothed smile. “We are in a library.”

The meaning was clear. You look around at the other patrons of the library: children and teenagers and people just minding their own business. People that are likely unaware of the two vampires lurking in their midst. Glancing back at Tabaeus, noting their stricken look, says enough.

A sudden thought crests your mind, overcoming the shock of the moment. Given this man had just lightly threatened a whole library, was it too hard to imagine he’d kill a town? Or a doctor? 

It was a shot in the complete dark, but you had to ask. Tabaeus admitted to blacking out the name, so perhaps Lachlan would fall for your question. “By chance are you the same Lord Barrett who worked with Dr. Kieran Bennett in the 1880s?”

Joseph Brown (May 3, 1933 – December 25, 2006) was a singer, songwriter, dancer, musician, record producer, and bandleader. Brown is considered one of the originators of funk in a career that lasted 50 years Brown got his start as a gospel singer he joined the r&b group The Gospel Starlighters. That eventually became the Famous Flames was founded by Bobby Byrd who became the lead vocalist. In 1950, he gained notoriety to the public as a member of the Famous Flames with their ballads the group later became his backing band known as the James Brown Band they were known for the hit ballads, “Please, Please, Please” and “ Try Me” the group capitalized on Brown’s reputation as a tireless live performer. His success continued in the 1960s after his now-infamous live album Live at the Apollo had a number of hit songs. During the ’70s Brown’s sound moved into what was the early stages of funk music. He was noted with the song “ Say It Loud” which had a social commentary In 2013, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I should slip on my James Brown but, now it’s too big and I’m not going anywhere. He helped make shape and refine several genres of music. I was working my first Christmas shift back in 2006 and around 2 am a news report came in that he had passed away.  James Brown is one of the most influential artists in music and was a fantastic entertainer.

“Canadian Labor Defence League ‘Communistic’,” Kingston Whig-Standard. February 21, 1933. Page 11. ---- Declaration Made by Premier Bennett to Deputation at Ottawa ---- CASE OF TIM BUCL ---- OTTAWA, Feb. 21 — The Canadian Labor Defence League has been carrying on the work of the Communistic League under this new name since the conviction of the eight Toronto Communists a year ago, Prime Minister R. B. Bennett declared today. Tim Buck and his Communist associates in Kingston penitentiary, now further charged with inciting the Kingston prison riots last fall, will not be released but will face their trial in court on the new charges, he said.

The Premier made these statement to a deputation of fourteen members of the Canadian Labor Defence League, headed by A. E. Smith, Toronto, former clergyman, and Mrs. Tim Buck.

Speaking to Mr. Smith directly, the Prime Minister added: "And you have been the leading head of this new League. In my opinion, there is no doubt but that a jury of the citizens of this country would so find you guilty.’

Senator Arthur Meighen and Hon. Hugh Guthrie, Minister of Justice, both joined in the charge that that the Canadian Labor League is Communistic, that a delegate who had spoken in French had admitted that he was a Communist. Mr. Smith said he to any “political party.”

eren aka ej the don: I feel like I’ve already stated this but I hc him after Bones. From the music, the looks..everything. He favors him so much. I feel like his music videos have this dark, mysterious aesthetic just like his. In the same turn, he also sings and makes these R&B esque, love songs (just take a listen to Bones’ 2 Million Blunts album, it’s what inspired this whole AU). His musical style also ranges a lot. He may play a guitar on stage and sing for one and then start a mosh pit with the next song. Bones calls himself the ‘Underground God and The Reaper’ and if Eren wouldn’t do some shit like that, idk who would. Just like him, EJ produces and makes his own instrumentals. Like the Grammys or these awards shows don’t have to give him his flowers but he’s adored by the underground and independent scene. Super talented all the way around. Gives me heavy $uicideboys vibes too.

connie aka prince cee: I know a lot of ppl say Central Cee (who I personally don’t care for but I can see it way more for him than eren) but I actually modeled him after Yeat. I feel like Connie can rap his ass off but he never takes himself too seriously either. He’s a meme rapper but every last one of his songs is a hit. His soundbytes go viral alllll the time on Tiktok. His music is super fun and hype. But put him in a freestyle, he’s devouring every time.

onyakopon aka ony the god: now he reminds me so much of a mixture between Bryson Tiller and MO3 (🙏🏾). He definitely has bars but he has an INCREDIBLE singing voice so he combines the two and does it sound godly (no pun intended). I also think he’s a very talented piano player. He’s probably the 2nd most multi-faceted behind EJ. His style is so unique and so many try to mimic him. But they can never out do the doer. Him and EJ be having a ball in the studio; just bouncing verses off each other and singing they asses off! 😭 I also think all 3 have a few joints EP’s together.

jean aka j. kirschtein: my boy is the only non rapper in the mix. But he is the epitome of a rockstar. I mirror him making music heavily akin to Coldplay or James Arthur..alternative but still with a touch of soul in it..simply put, he’s amazing. Skilled on bass, electric and drums. Also writes for a LOT of people as well. He was Mikasa’s bassist when she performed but she took one listen and knew it wasted potential to not have him at the forefront. The first time she heard him sang, she actually cried! He has such a strong register and can do a variety of genres. He might be the most popular behind EJ signed to AMG.

mikasa aka mika ASH: even though her music career was short lived because she preferred being behind the scenes, she was cold as hell as a performer. I personally have a few I mused her after and that was Saphir, AshNikko and Thuy. Some of her music was soft and melodic but she was the epitome of a goth girl or rather, the label played on that whole aesthetic and branded her as such! She was so good though. Mixing heavy metal type music with light vocals. She had a large fanbase and of course, the alt girls LOVED her but she just couldn’t handle the pressure of fame and stepped back to be a talent scout/manager. She’s much happier with that.

armin aka arminhammer: now armin is more of a producer than artist himself. He sticks to making the beats and directing the music videos. I think of him as like a Cole Bennett or Kenny Beats. When he’s not chasing half the hoes in Miami, he’s behind the mixing board and contrary to belief, he’s the best to do it and the man you want working on your projects. He’s HIM for sure. When he DOES make music, he sounds like Chase Atlantic or The Neighborhood. (He just looks like a Chase Atlantic song, I can’t explain it!)

christa reiss aka HISTORIA: we haven’t talked about her much outside of being Eren’s ex but she’s one of the biggest pop stars in the entire verse. She’s very similar to Zara Larsson, Dua Lipa and Maggie Lindemann. Very much Top 40, bubble gum pop. She had this whole good girl gone bad vibe going on for a while and EJ still heavily influences her music and even helps her music but she gives basic white girl (but in a cute bubbly way! ☠️)

Modern!genshin Dainsleif & Traveler au headcanons

K so I've been having a bit of a modern!genshin au brainrot where u have ReaderxSingleFather!Dain whos adopted the Lumi + Aether that are in high school so here are some headcanons for that :)

P.S. many ofsome of these aren't ReaderxDain they're just modern!au headcanons that would be a part of this universe :)

TW: Mentions of a car crash, parental neglect(not to reader, Dain, Aether, or Lumine tho)

So lets pretend that you work in a cafe(yes ik another cafe au- very original but hang in there) across the street from where lumine and Aether go to school and you meet Dain when him and Aether come to pick up Lumine from her part time job at your place

You've already kinda started to look after Lumi in a little sister/niece kinda way then one day some v e r y attractive man come in with Aether and is introduced as their adoptive dad.....

.....H o l y S h i t

When I say the adrenaline/endorphin rush you had from the eye contact almost made you pop a circuit like a toaster in a bathtub I mean it-

He's V polite the entire encounter if a little dry-humored but you guys left off on a good note

He eventually starts "Visiting Lumine" at her job and picking her up at the end of her shifts to drive home even though their house is a short walking distance away

You also notice that even though he seems to have his adoptive daughters work schedule memorized he also always seems to come just a bit too early to chat(but he only talks w/you when there's little to no customers bc he knows you have a job to do)

The siblings lowkey ship after the first interaction....

And eventually....

Aether is gets a job at your place as well but strangely enough some "outside forces" in the siblings own personal schedules have conspired to give him staggered work times with Lumine rather than have them work at the same time...

This makes it so that Dain has to visit the cafe 2x as often to pick up his tiny cupid gremlins

You learn that Aether has a tiny yet loud all white corgi with a peach collar named Paimon that has a fear of water after she fell in a lake as a puppy

Some of the other hs students that also work at you cafe are Xiangling, a favorite of the customers, Diona, who you once caught trying to spit in drink order(It didn't work bc the spit kept falling back onto her lip or shirt), and Gaming who you're pretty sure has at least 2 other jobs than yours and does community service

All your tiny employees get along :)

You learn a lot more about Lumine and Aether's school life as well as the others as time goes on

Some of the most popular teachers and adults on campus seem to be:

Math teacher "Madam" Faruzan, who's a bit too strict on rules

AP World History Teacher Zhongli(who has infamously deadly long and boring lectures yet all his students pass with a B or higher)

Biology Teacher Alhaitham, who keeps 2 Giant Sulawesi snails in his classroom named Aranara and Ararycan, named by his preschool age adopted daughter Nahida, who he took in after his friend, Nahida's adult older sister died in a car crash.

He's also that one teacher that intentionally edits wiki pages so he knows when his students bs their papers....

Graphic Design Teacher Kaveh, that's engaged to Bio teacher Alhaitham and is considerably more laid back than his Fiance

They clearly love each other very much despite how much they bicker

The 2 gym teachers Kayea and Diluc who seem to have formed a rivalry and regularly pit their classes against each other in dodgeball matches(A boy named Bennett always seems to be tagged out first, and always headshot no less)

Principal Ningguang and Vice Principal Jean(who always seems to be overworked)

The only person more overworked than VP Jean is the school counselor Katheryne

Carpentry Teacher Xianyun who has two daughters of her own, Ganyu- who always sleeps in class no matter how much caffeine she drinks before hand, and Shenhe who has the highest max in weight lifting

AP Gov. teacher Neuvillette, who is apparently very popular despite the fact he gives the most detentions out of all the other teachers

Substitute drama teacher Furina who's a long term sub for the official Drama and Dance teacher Ms. Focalors

Nilou, the long term substitute for the Dance Team

Security guards Wriothesly and Dehya, who both once got an earful from Principal Ningguag for holding an arm-wresting tournament among students...

AP Music Theory teacher Venti, who's that one teacher that grades solely off how well he vibes with the students and not actual assignments

Librarian Lisa, who has amassed a collection of romance genre books more than any other in her workspace

Cyno, the English teacher with allllllll the dad jokes in the book(and has probably written his own pun book that he tells to the class)

Chemistry teacher Tighnari who has to constantly knock on the doors of other teachers classrooms to keep the noise level down since everyone knows the walls of school building are paper thin and he may just be slowly going deaf bc of it

Some of their peers include:

Amber, who was the first to befriend Lumine and Aether when they first started high school, despite being a grade higher than the siblings and having exactly 0 classes with them

Razor, a foreign exchange student that doesnt talk much but is best friends with Bennett(the dodgeball loser than manges to trip over anything, even the things that aren't there), and Fishcl, who's real name is Amy but hasn't let go of her imaginary childhood world yet(and good for her tbh)

Hu Tao, that one goth kid that used to tell all the others that "Ring-Around-the-Rosy" was about the black death during recess back in elementary school

Kunikuzushi, who has lesbian moms, Ei and Yae, as well as a younger sister, Raiden, who's still in middle school. He was neglected as a kid bc his biological mother, Ei favored his sister over him. He's very edgy but surprisingly doesn't get along with the other goths, Hu Tao, and a kid named Xiao

Xiao, who's a teachers pet to no one but Mr. Zhongli who fostered him as a child

Lyney and Lynette, who's favorite class is Drama, despite their frequent terrorizing of the substitute teacher, Furina, at their insistence that it's all because they want Ms. Focalors to return sooner

Albedo, who's highly introverted except in his debate club with a sole soft spot for his sister Klee(in kindergarten) and their mother Alice, a flight attendant who's not around much but calls every(and yes I do mean every night) night to check in via facetime to ask see if Albedo's making friends and to read ebook children's stories to Klee :)

Yoimiya, who was once given detention for an entire school quarter bc she set off a whole mess of fireworks on the football field

The ever rich Kamisato siblings who made the choice to go to a public school, rather than Snezhnaya, the rich Northern school across the way that has a principal even stricter than Ningguang, Faruzan, and Neuvillette combined, so harsh that her students have given her the name "Tsaritsa"........

please give me constructive criticisms on my hcs :) id love to know if you want a follow up for only school life or only romantic headcanons but it might take me a bit to get back on it :) (but please no nsfw)
