Lepidus: You'd think I was just some Italian commoner, not a noble patrician and his fellow triumvir!

Agrippa, an Italian commoner: Right...Looks like Messana has surrendered.

Lepidus: Finally, pillaging time!

Agrippa: Hang on--

Lepidus: Nope, can't hear you over the sound of sacking this city and taking all its soldiers for my own army.

Agrippa: The same ones whose homes you just burned?

Lepidus: I fought all the ground battles in this war! Octavian couldn't even land here without Pompeius running him off the island. Sicily is mine and I'm kicking him out!

Agrippa: That is a bad idea.

Octavian, arriving: Why is Messana on fire?

Lepidus: I'm tired of being a side character in this story! How many people reading this even know who I am? Huh? Even though I'm the most experienced general and have the biggest army? And after Octavian stole most of my provinces and shipped me off to Africa and--

Octavian: Is he crying?

Agrippa: I'm moving your ships so he can't set fire to those, too.

Octavian: Calm down, Lucullus. I also took Gaul from Antony and he got over it.

Lepidus: It's LEPIDUS. Now get off this island or fight me! [chucks spear at Octavian]

Octavian: Rude. And yes, I'm sure your men would be happy to fight another civil war immediately after fighting Pompeius. Right?

[The Messanians immediately defect, followed by the rest of Lepidus' army.]

Lepidus: Um

Agrippa: Do we kill him?

Octavian: What, and lose the comic relief?

It's pretty stupid, honestly, to drive two and a half hours to Fort fuckin Meyers. Even more stupid because Matthew hates driving anything more complicated than a golf cart these days; he's 32 and it makes his hip hurt to drive for too long; there isn't even all that much to see along the way. But Leon got fifteen points to Matthew's twelve this month, and this is what he picked. A wager is a wager. Matthew's not backing down, even when he probably should.

sooooooooooo leon to the tbl in ??? years. they had a messy situationship that flamed out spectacularly thanks to the trade. now they're in the same time zone again, and they've gotten over enough of the bad blood between them to come to a detente by the second season. the new rivalry is making things kind of fun, honestly. perhaps they reach a point where they can go for a casual drink. clear the air. clearing the air turns into making a silly bet about points turns into whoever wins gets to pick the stakes, or call in a favor, or -- whatever. stays pretty stupid the first few times. matthew makes leon say a nice thing about him in a scrum. leon dares matthew to fight him. it's stupid. funny. fun, even.

that is, until matthew finds himself driving halfway across a state to spend a rare and precious day off doing -- he doesn't know what. all he knows is leon won, and this is how leon decided to call in his favor. all matthew can do is hope he knows what he's doing.

(he doesn't know what he's doing. they're absolutely gonna end up in bed together.)
