Traumatic SCI commonly results from a sudden, traumatic impact on the spine that fractures or dislocates vertebrae. It is a devastating irreversible life changing neurological condition with substantial socioeconomic implications for patients and their loved ones. The outcome of SCI depends of course on the severity and location of the lesion and may include partial or complete loss of sensory and/or motor function below the level of injury. The term ‘spinal cord injury (SCI) refers to damage to the spinal cord resulting from trauma or from disease or degeneration. Spinal cord injury (SCI) has devastating physical, mental, social, sexual, and vocational consequences for the injured. The injury also increases the economic burden on the person and on his or her entire support network. The common saying is, ‘Prevention is better than cure '. @eleanordonnelly06 my daughter always brightens my day using her passions on me and does my hair when im unable to. She enable me to get of bed after my symptoms got better. after having no choice but to b confined to bed rest due to the paralysis. Let me tell you bed rest is not fun at all,im in nonstop pain,fatigued,heal a sore and sleep for 20 hours straight,unable to eat solids and drink through straw,unable to lift my working upper body and suffer repeat shock seziures, not able to get washed in shower nor get dressed nor speak b e cause my body literally shut down . I've been frustrated lately stalling out in a few lifts at home but old videos quickly put things in perspective. Throwback to me being soo frustrated with myself and body... We had a sheet tied around my lower back and knees to help support my posture, knees and ankles weighted to help suppress spasms, a box for my feet because I'm short lol, iv in my hand for some reason, gauze on my other arm from blood draws, struggling to press this block across the table, and not able to pull it back, sit up, or hold the thing. I was a hot mess and my face pretty much explained my excitement lol. I can still feel what these days were like physically, mentally, and emotionally. Luckily I had some awesome OT help (Maggie and Lauren) to get me through the sessions.
