Clarisse with a mermaid/lake protector girlfriend? as if they were talked about a lot by the reader only appearing to talk to her or when Chiron called her, however she manages to transform into a human, and she doesn't talk to anyone other than Clarisse because she is shy and also doesn't like demigods ( except Clarisse, of course)

Clarisse has never liked the lake, it reminded her of too much and she could never sit down and focus because of the many sounds.
But one day she spotted something stepping out and walking towards the shore and she became curious. At first, she thought it was another camper, but then she noticed how you had a different type of shine to your body.
She drew a dagger from her pants and crept forward thinking it was a monster that had split in. Taking shallow breaths she approached you. When she stepped on a branch and broke it she mentally cursed at herself as you turned to look at her with fright.
You quickly ran back into the water, your skin merging and forming what looked like a tail. Clarisse had heard of you, a myth around camp that she never believed.
You were the protector of the camp lake, saving drowning children and whatnot. Aphrodite cursed you for loving one of her children. It was said that the girl had asked her mother to get you to leave her alone and this was the first thought.
What was meant to make you ugly, simply only made you more beautiful – or that's what Clarisse thought
She heard Chiron make an announcement once about leaving trash around the lake, saying the living species were getting upset. She didn't realize it was you they were upsetting.
Once she left she still had the curiosity to see you again, she asked her siblings if they had seen anything like you but they all just brushed her away.
So she left it up to herself to find you again.
She went at the same time she did the day before, this time she went slower, being careful not to scare you.
She spotted you once again, you had small fabric pieces covering you, and vines, necklaces, and bracelets decorated you adding to the shine of your skin.
And most importantly you had legs again.
The night before Clarisse had asked Chiron about you. He told her that you do exist, but you dislike demigods – or any type of god really because of your past. So if she were able to get to you then he would be amazed.
She wanted to get to you … boy did she want to.
She walked over the pebbles and cleared her throat, you placed your hands on the ground to quickly stand up but she put her hands up trying to show that she wasn't a threat.
“I'm Clarisse” she spoke softly, taking a step forward. “What do you want?” You asked in a soft and shy voice which surprised her.
Clarisse shrugged her shoulders, not even sure what her reasoning was, she just felt drawn to you. “I haven't seen you before.”
“Good” You answered, simple and plain, not wanting to add more as you took another step away from her. “You're afraid of me?” Clarisse asked, but it came out more as a statement.
You scoffed turning to face her “No … I hate you.”
“You don't know me.” Clarisse challenged, if there was one thing Clarisse hated, it was losing a challenge.
“I've heard the children speak from the boats, they are afraid of you,” you spoke softly, but there was a certain sternness in it that made Clarisse’s heart pump.
“I’m sorry … but that is simply the way I am. Mean. But I will be nice to you … I’ll try.” Clarisse found herself apologizing for no reason, her shoulders kinda shrugged and she had a straight face.
It wasn't long until she convinced you to sit down with her, and eventually, she got you laughing. Clarisse was still her anger-driven self, but she mellowed down when she was near you, bringing out a more flirtatious side of her.
After a few weeks, another camper noticed the two of you talking, and when Clarisse was questioned she gave them an aggressive look and told them to ‘back off’ and that you were not theirs to know about.
She wanted you to socialize with others, to get over your hatred towards others, but at the same time, she liked having you all to herself. She couldn't help it but it was in her blood to be selfish.
So the day when she saw you talking to another camper she lost it. She stormed up to the two of you and watched as you stroked the kid's back. “What the hell is going on?” Clarisse pretty much growled at you.
But the look you gave her was unphased, and that made her even more annoyed. Her arms were crossed as she looked down at the two of you. “He was drowning … it's my job to save the children.” You spoke softly looking back at the kid.
When Clarisse walked around the kid to see his face, she noticed the snot rolling down his nose and how he was drenched. She felt stupid, but to keep up her strong act she rolled her eyes “You're fine, now get lost.” She told the kid, tilting her head towards the cabins so he would get the hint.
The little kid who was terrified of Clarisse got up and stumbled away.
Clarisse watched the kid leave and then turned to face you as you stood up, “You let your imagination control you.” you spoke softly meeting her gaze, “Nothing controls me.”
“Except for your anger and jealousy.”
Clarisse scoffed and shook her head “Whatever I'm leaving.”
“Don't,” you called out to her as she was already walking away, she stopped and swung her foot so it almost twirled her body for her.  She stopped, still a distance away from you as she waited for something else.
“You're my only friend … I want your company.” You admitted for the first time since she started talking to you. Clarisse couldn't help but smile, so she looked down trying to whip off the smirk and play it cool.
“Fine only because you are so sweet.” She teased, but she was gonna stay anyway, whether you wanted her to or not.
She sat down and you followed her, you shyly scooted your hand towards hers, still afraid that Clarisse might get angry and curse you, like that camper had done in the past.
But Clarisse smiled and took it, letting her hand interlock with yours, feeling your skin and how your hand was so smooth compared to hers.
You sat together in silence, Clarisse drew patterns into your skin with her thumb, enjoying how you felt, and for the first time, she enjoyed sitting by the water.

That morning was a normal morning, everyone in the village have been doing their duties. Ronal and Tonowari had been attending to theirs. Some children had been playing at the beach, running around the water, splashing one another and so on. Until they saw something washed up at shore, curious the group went over to see what it was. They didn’t see an ilu or a skimswin, instead it was something else. They thought that they needed to tell an adult, so some stayed behind and others went to get adults.
The kids had been running around screaming and shouting about something that had washed up, this got the attention of some who had been passing by. This commotion caused some other Metkayina’s to see what was happening. While Tonowari and Ronal had been busy, someone had walked towards their Marui. “Tonowari, Ronal, something is going on” the female na’vi said, getting their attention. “What is happening?” Ronal asked, getting up. “Some children had spotted something wash up in the shore, I believe is best you come see for yourselves.” She said, now both Ronal and Tonowari stood up. “Take us there” Tonowari said.
The na’vi had lead them to were the commotion was happening, a small group of other na’vi had formed. They had been muttering and talking. “What is she?” “Where did she come from?” “Look at her! She has a big tail!” “Don’t touch her!” they heard once they got closer. When the group saw the chief and his mate they had stepped a side. “What is going on here?” Tonowari asked, once close he saw what the group had been looking at. “She washed up on shore” one of the kids that had been a witness.
Both Ronal and Tonowari had a closer look, you had been laying their, unconscious. Instead of a legs, you had a tail with fins, you had gills on your neck and on the side of your upper body. Your four fingers were webbed to one another and you had sharp talons. Your arms weren’t wide like them, instead they were thin with much longer fins. Your hair was long and it covered your chest perfectly, also your queue was visible. You were just like them, but also different. They also sad how small you were, you were a child.
Both Tonowari and Ronal believe you needed help, they had never come across anyone like you. So they took you back to their Marui. Ronal had began to try and get you to wake up with her ritual.
After a couple minutes, you woke up, being met by Ronal and Tonowari. You sat up a bit tp fast, and spoke “what happened? Where am I?” you asked, holding your head.
“You washed up on shore here” Ronal said, as Tonowari spoke. “What happened to you?” He asked you. “I was out hunting, I went a bit further than I should, then a huge akula came and I got away from it. I got exhausted and decided to rest on a rock.” You said rubbing your temple. “I didn’t mean to cause a ruckus here.” You said looking down at your slimy tail.
“I’ll leave as soon as possible” you mentioned, then Ronal and Tonowari looked at one another. They had a silent conversation between one another then turned back to you. “It’s okay, you can stay as much as you like until you’re able to go.”
They had offered to let you stay a bit. “Are you sure? I don’t want to be a burden.” You said as Tonowari shock his head. “It’s alright, you’re no burden. You need rest before you go back home.” You thanked the couple and promise not to cause any trouble.
Since you couldn’t stay in a Marui, you stayed in the water around Ronal’s and Tonowari’s marui. You had found a small cave that you perfectly fit in and called it your temporary home.
You had met their children Ao’nung and Tsireya. Along with their friend Rotxo. Both Rotxo and Tsireya were kind while Ao’nung was a bit alerted by you. He along with everyone had never seen you before, so he wanted to keep his guard up.
During your time with the clan, you had learn a lot. They were able to communicate with Tulkun, how they bonded with a ilus and skimswims. It was different back home. You were closer with the Tulkun since you both communicated through sound waves/ vocal sounds.
You also had mentioned to Tsireya that you’ve met Tulkuns with tattoos, which she had told you that they must be their brothers and sisters.
You were also very good with the younger kids. You would often be spotted sitting on the beach surrounded by children, listening to your stories from back home. You’d also play with them underwater chasing them around and making them laugh.
You also helped out Ronal and Tonowari, the tsahik with looking for materials for remedies and had showed her about your ways of healing and other stuff. You helped Tonowari with hunting, you showed him how you hunt and what you normally hunted for. He impressed by your hunting skills due to still being very young.
Tsireya and you had officially became sisters in a way. It all started since the day you stayed in the village. She was kind to you even without getting to know you.
She had thought loads of things, such as weaving and making necklaces. She had made you a top out of pearls and sea shells she had found. You normally didn’t wear any tops since your hair did the job for you.
Ao’nung took a bit longer to get along with you, since he was still spectacle about you, but eventually he saw you as a friend like Rotxo.
He also liked how you’d prank him and Rotxo, He liked how you’d play rough along other things.
That morning had been a normal morning. You had been with the younger children, until the horn was blow. Getting everyone's attention, visitor’s had arrived near the village. The visitors were coming from the water, you noticed how they had remained in the water while Ronal and Tonowari, along with a few others followed them went towards the visitors in their Skimswims. This could only mean one thing.
It was your family, they had come searching for you. Your mother and father had asked the leader’s about your whereabouts. Then you had been called over towards them group, as soon as you saw your parents, they had pulled you into a tight hug, happy that they had found you safe, they thought something bad had happened to you, but you were alright.
Now you had to return home, before you departed, you went to go say goodbye. It was hard since you had got close to the children along with Ronal, Tonowari, and their kids. You had promise that when the Tulkun return, so will you. Once departed, the people had already missed you.
Its been months since you had left back home, Tsireya missed you dearly since you were considered sisters. Ao’nung and Rotxo also missed you, so did the Chief and his mate.
Then again, the horn had been blown, this time it was Tulkun who had returned, but they weren’t alone, you and your people had come too.
You had told them about the Metkayina that they came along to also meet them. The Metkayina got to know your people while they got to meet the Metkayina.
You had introduced the children to other children like you, they had began to get along.
This had started a bond between both na’vi. Since then your people and the Metkayina had been considered brothers and sisters.
Every time the Tulkun returned to their village, so did your people, its been that way for five years now.
The Sullys had scene the Tulkun arrive for the first time, they also noticed that the Tulkun had companions with them. Your people.
They noticed how both species of na’vi interacted with one another, some kids playing around with one another, others seemed to have different kinds of relationships, some of friendship and others more intimate, assuming some had were mates.
During your time there, you were introduced to the Sully kids. They had never scene anyone like you until now.
You were honestly happy to meet others. Tuk most of all was even more excited to meet you.
You along with Rotxo and Kiri went on a swim with his spirit bother, both Tuk and Kiri holding onto the top fin, while you and Rotxo held onto the bottom of the fin.
Afterwards you had taken Tuk into your back and swam around the Tulkun.
She had been holding onto you tightly while you swam around, this caught the attention of her parents.
They saw their youngest kid bond with you, it warmed their hearts seen that Tuk was happier than the first time they came to the village.
Afterwards, you had been sitting on the beach with the small group of friends, getting to know the Sullys.
You never would of thought that they were different na’vi, you lived underwater, so it was good that you got to know them.

Mario x Mermaid AU
Takes a little bit of inspiration from The Little Mermaid. Contains some Mareach and (platonic) brotherly love.
PREMISE
🐚 Mario and Luigi are merman who live in the seas of the Mushroom Kingdom. Their father, Pio, the strongest and most magic equipped of their family, has always forbid the brothers from going to the surface.
🐚 "The beings above have their own concerns. And neither do they care for ours. Our worlds are not meant to co-exist."
🐚 But Mario especially has always had an interest in the surface, and along with his brother Luigi, loves to explore old shipwrecks, collect objects from the surface that they have no idea what they are but they are cool, and playing in the various small coves on the beaches of the Mushroom Kingdom.
🐚 One day while having one of these bonding moments, the brothers notice a ship coming in, and swim up closer to investigate. Luigi is hesitant to go any further, but Mario is curious about the celebration on board. It turns out it's a birthday party for the Mushroom Kingdom's princess, Peach.
🐚 The moment Mario sees her, he's instantly entranced by her. She's the most beautiful being he has ever seen. And her voice is almost like a siren call.
🐚 Mario dares to get closer, and happens to eavesdrop on a conversation between Peach and her supervisor, Toadsworth. Peach is quite worried as a threat from the sea, the sea monster Bowser, is starting to show itself, and Peach is certain this monster wants to claim her kingdom.
🐚 Suddenly the party is interrupted by the arrival of a thunder storm. It proves to be stronger than the surface dwellers realise, and very soon the ship is overpowered and is forced to retreat.
🐚 In the chaos, Peach tries to rescue a toad subject who is about to fall in, but is thrown overboard herself. Without even thinking, Mario dives after her, with Luigi yelling after him. He pulls her unconscious body up to the surface, and swims with all the strength he has to get her to safety.
🐚 Mario manages to get the princess to a nearby beach, and stays with her until the storm subsides. During this time, he notes about how kind she was to put her subjects before herself, reflected so much in her beauty that he can't seem to draw his eyes away from...
🐚 Soon after Luigi shows up (after an almost panic induced meltdown for his brother!).
🐚 "She's so beautiful, Luigi...", Mario whispers, his eyes not leaving Peach. Luigi looks at his brother. He knows that look his older brother has. And he's both happy, and worried for him.
🐚 Just as Peach begins to wake up, the brothers hear the cries of her subjects looking for her, and quickly dive back into the sea before they are spotted.
🐚 "Princess!", Toadsworth pants, nearly beside himself. "Are you right?!"
🐚 "Oh Toadsworth...", says Peach. "A man...rescued me. He was so kind to me..."
🐚 Toadsworth and her subjects take her away to be tended to, and meanwhile Mario is on cloud nine. He drifts through the sea in a goofy daze, and Luigi smirks as he takes in the look on his brother's face.
🐚 "You're in love with her 😏", he says. Mario blushes and tells him that he's wrong!
🐚 Returning to their home, the brothers arrive to find everyone in a state of panic. The sea monster Bowser has been seen nearby, and appears to be making its way to the surface.
🐚 Mario's heart freezes, for he realises that Bowser is heading to the Mushroom Kingdom - just like Peach said!
🐚 He tells his father that they needs to go up to the surface and save them. Pio refuses, not wanting his family, and especially his sons, to get involved. But then he realises...
🐚 "There is another...", Pio says, voice shaking.
🐚 "You cannot be with them", Pio says firmly before Mario can speak. "There is nothing we can do. And don't you dare bring your brother with you. You've dragged him into this obsession long enough! Don't you dare hurt him any more!"
🐚 Mario is hurt, and flees from the room before anyone can see his tears. Luigi follows, and finds Mario frustrated and broken over what to do. He wants to help so bad, but like his father said, he can't risk putting anyone on danger, especially his brother.
🐚 After everyone is asleep, Mario sneaks out to think things over, and runs into a sea witch called Kammy.
🐚 "You want to save those on the surface, right?", asks Kammy. "I can help you with that."
🐚 Mario is not foolish, but he is desperate to help Peach and the Mushroom Kingdom in any way he can. He follows Kammy to her cave, and she proposes a plan: If Mario can give up a part of himself, then she will turn him into a human so he can walk on the surface and meet Peach.
🐚 Thus, Mario makes a brash decision to try and save the Mushroom Kingdom, and the seas...

hello again!
I'd like to have Uzi and Nori tickle fluff, so maybe Uzi is cranky and ticked off cuz she had a bad day and her mom uses her solver form to cheer her up (such as her tail "losing control")?
Have a good break! (I also have two weeks off, it's so nice)
Storms won’t last forever, but cheer ups can

Note: Thank you so much for the request! I was really excited when this was requested because this gave me the opportunity to write the silly mermaid goobers! I had this type of scenario for a while now lol (only a few days but that doesn’t matter)
Hope you enjoy! ( ˘͈ ᵕ ˘͈♡)˚๐*˟♡

It was another day in the deep reef. The sun beamed down into the waters, giving off rays of light, while fish swam by one another to reach their destinations. They quickly swam away, scared off as a shadow loomed over the colorful environment. The shadow soon propelled itself forward, away from the reef and into the dark, open ocean.
"Uzi? Where are you?" Nori shouted as she looked around the empty space in concern.
Nori's daughter had decided to run away again. The younglings had another hunting session with their teacher. Apparently something went wrong for Uzi and she had disappeared according to Khan. Before he was able to talk to her, Uzi had already swum away. Now Nori was worried about her daughter's safety and began searching for her.
Normally she would travel somewhere to isolate herself from the pod, and she can make it a challenge to find.
As the giant orca worker swam deeper into the nothingness of the area, she started to see patches of seaweed growing around the sandy seabed as well as a trail of bubbles towards a patch of seaweed, surrounding an untouched area.
Curious, Nori swam towards the seaweed and parted them to get through. She stopped midway as she saw her daughter curled up in a fetal position, her body shaking and spasming as she cried softly in her crossed arms.
"Uzi?"
The teenager jumped, not expecting anyone to find her. Thinking it was those pesky seals, she turned around to meet the stranger with a glare, quickly wiping away her tears. Her eyes somewhat bloodshot as she had been crying for a very long time.
"Do you want to be beaten to a pulp?! I told you to leave me-!" Uzi stopped mid-sentence seeing that it was only her mother. "Oh, it's you."
"Yes, it is me, your mother. May I?"
"Sure."
Nori glided to where her daughter was in response, the smaller scooted her tail away to give her mother more space to sit by her. The larger worker allowed herself to float down beside Uzi with a concerned look.
"So, I heard from your father that the hunt didn't go as well, huh?"
Uzi said nothing as she hugged her tail and looked down, the only response was a nod.
"What happened?" Nori inquired
There was silence again, until Uzi turned away from her mother
"You wouldn't understand anyway." Uzi mumbled
Nori smiled as she leaned on her arm. "Try me, Uzi. I've been on this rock for a century now, there's nothing that I haven't faced before that you're dealing with right now." She said gently
Uzi hesitated for a moment before sighing. "Everyone had caught a seal but me," She began
"They were too fast for me, I couldn't keep up with them before it was too late. Doll had caught a small one just for me to not be left out, it was embarrassing," Uzi admitted "And all because I'm the smallest out of everyone in there."
Uzi groaned before balling her fists and roaring out to the sky
"Why does she always have to help me?! I'm not a droneling anymore!" Uzi shouted
Nori looked at her with concern, she was always trying to be independent on her own ever since that human had brought back her and Doll to the pod. She was trying to do more for the pod, whatever that human did really changed her and Doll.
"Uzi, it's okay to ask for help. We all need help sometimes, no matter our size or age. Doll cares about you and wants to make sure you're included. It's not a sign of weakness to accept help, it's a sign of strength to recognize when we need it."
"Even when everyone calls you a baby all the time?" Uzi asked with an unamused tone
"I don't want to  be seen as a baby anymore," Uzi added, her voice filled with frustration.
Nori sighed softly, understanding Uzi's desire to be seen as capable and independent. She reached out and gently placed a hand on Uzi's shoulder.
"You're not a baby Uzi. For the past few years you have proven yourself to be a very strong lady. Just because you missed a seal doesn't mean you can't fend for yourself, it just shows that you need help understanding certain things." Nori explained
“Even when you get called a baby multiple times?” Uzi asked in an unamused tone
"Oh honey," Nori began, "The others might call you a baby for all the mean reasons, but know that you'll always be my baby. And mine alone."
The older woman reached out to caress her daughter's cheek, earning a small smile.
"Thanks Mom, but I'm still not—"
Without warning, Nori lifted Uzi up, earning a yelp from her, and started to playfully twirl her around. She stopped once she started to get dizzy and looked down at her daughter, chuckling at Uzi's reaction.
"You can deny all you want, but you're still my baby in my eyes!" Nori singsonged, playfully nuzzling and kissing Uzi's face.
The younger chuckled before trying to escape Nori's grip, her tail wagging at her mom's silly antics. After some time, Nori stopped and released her.
"So, feeling better now?" Nori asked.
"A little bit, I'll manage it though," Uzi replied as she propelled herself towards the wall of seaweed.
Nori followed her, but before she went outside of the seaweed, she thought of something else that could make her daughter happy. She couldn't help but smile at the idea; it had been a long time since she had done it to Uzi, but hopefully it would still have the same effect as when she was younger. She put her plan into action as she swam in a different direction.
Uzi kept swimming back to the deep reef, not realizing that her mother wasn't following her anymore. "So, are we still eating those leftovers dad saved or... Mom?"
Uzi turned around but didn't see her mother anywhere. She looked around, hoping to find a sign of her, but Nori was nowhere to be seen.
"Mom? This isn't funny. If you're trying to scare me by suddenly appearing out of nowhere, it's not going to work--whoa!"
Uzi was surprised as something suddenly bumped into her back, causing her to be flipped onto her back, rendering her unable to move.
"Ack! Hey!" Uzi exclaimed as she struggled to get back upright. She looked up to see her mother, Nori, hovering above her with a mischievous grin on her face.
"Gotcha!" Nori said playfully. "Lesson one of being a hunter: never let your guard down, because you never know what could be lurking about!"
"Ugh, thanks for the free lesson Mom, now can you please help me up? I can't move." Uzi sighed, reaching out her hand to her mother, only for her to swim closer to Uzi.
"Ah, ah, ah, you know how we end this game Uzi," Nori teased, as she stopped where her belly was, only then did the teen realize what was about to happen.
Uzi's eyes widened as she tried to squirm away, only to go nowhere in her struggles.
"No no no! Wait!" Uzi pleaded, only for those pleas to fall on deaf ears as Nori placed her hands on her sides.
"Once the monster catches their prey, they test which part of the body is the most tender to devour their flesh," Nori continued, her mischievous grin growing wider as she poked at Uzi's sides, earning small giggles from the child.
"Ehehehek! Mohohom!"
"Hm, could it be here?" Nori asked herself. "Nah, oh! What about here?" Nori moved her fingers to Uzi's ribs.
"Ahahahaha! Mohohom plehehease! I'm too old for thihihis! Hahahaha! Quit it!"
But Nori paid no mind to Uzi and continued to tickle her, enjoying the sound of her laughter. It had been a long time since she heard her freely laughing without having to worry about the others making fun of her, it felt nice for both of them.
"Oh! I know!" Nori exclaimed as she moved her hands back to Uzi's belly, she gently squeezed it a couple of times before perking up
"Aha! Finally! I found the most delisous part of my prey!" Nori playfully growled as she hugged Uzi to keep her from escaping
Uzi silently gulped as she tried again to escape her mother's grasp, a nervous smile creeping on her features.
"M-mom, mom wait, we can talk about this!" Uzi stuttered "I get it! I'm your only baby just let me go!"
"Oh but I'm not mom anymore, I'm the tickle monster!" Nori roared playfully
Before Uzi had a chance to protest again, Nori began to plant raspberries on her belly, causing her to shriek and throw her head back.
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! MOHOHOM! STAHAHAP!” Uzi howled trying to push Nori’s head away from her stomach
“Nom nom nom! Ah, what a delisous little hunter I have! I should take my time to eat this one!" Nori teased "She's just so sweet!"
“HEHEHEEHAHAHAHAHAHA! NOHOHOHO! NO MOHOHORE!!” Uzi shouted
Tears of mirth started to dwell in Uzi’s eyes as her strength started to leave her body, she stopped struggling long ago and went limp in Nori’s arms, accepting her fate. Seeing that Uzi was at her limit, Nori stopped her tickly assault.
“Alright, the tickle monster’s had her fill of her prey.” Nori chuckled as she gently let go of Uzi, who was still laying limp, catching her breath
“Thank…you..” Uzi said in between huffs
Eventually, the teenager was able to regain her strength to flip herself back upright. She looked back at her mother, now with a smile on her face.
"Alright, we should get back to the pod. We don't want them to think that one of their leaders and future leader disappeared, right?" Uzi asked.
"Right, but you just flipped yourself over," Nori acknowledged.
"Yeah?"
"You could've done that to escape."
Uzi blushed out of embarrassment before scratching the back of her head nervously.
"Oh, really? I-I didn't think of that." Uzi coughed, trying to brush it off.
Nori only smirked as she glided closer to her daughter. "Uzi, do you still like being tickled?"
"What?! N-no!" Uzi protested, the blush growing even bigger as she turned away with crossed arms. "Let's just get back to the others already."
"Of course, my little seastar." Nori chuckled.
As they swam back, Nori couldn't help but reminisce about the times she had done that trick. Uzi even asked her to do it again when she was younger. Now her little seastar had grown up to be somewhat rebellious, but some things never change.

@allthestoriescantbelies asked for horror novel recommendations, so I thought I’d throw one together to post on the blog! Largely focused on non-gothic stuff since I’ve already made a gothic lit list over here.
As a general warning, all horror books listed here will have potentially triggering material. If you want more specific trigger warnings, you can ask me or see if people have listed them on goodreads or storygraph.
My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix: I know you’ve read this, but I’m putting it on the list because it is one of the scariest books I’ve ever read, about a teenage girl in trouble and the only other girl willing to help her. I’m told the movie makes it much more straightforwardly comic rather than horror-with-jokes, which disappoints me. I’m a big fan of Hendrix in general, though I know you (and plenty of others!) find him hit-or-miss.
Red Dragon by Thomas Harris: Another one I believe you’ve read, but for reference, it’s the best serial killer thriller I’ve ever read. Francis Dolarhyde is a much more interesting character than Hannibal Lecter, I will die on this hill.
We Will All Go Down Together by Gemma Files: Centuries ago, the Five Family Coven made a deal with the Fairy Queen, and their descendants have been doomed ever since. I could have just as easily recommended Files’ book Experimental Film- if you like one, read the other as well.
The Drowning Girl by Caitlin R. Kiernan: A schizophrenic woman has two different memories of her ex-girlfriend and the horror that followed her- was she a werewolf, a mermaid, or were both memories wrong? This is Kiernan at her most heartfelt and most accessible; if you like this and want to try her grosser stuff, read The Very Best of Caitlin R. Kiernan.
House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski: A haunted house in a haunted film in a haunted memoir, written in a work of visual art. I won’t blame anyone who bounces off this, but give it a try!
Carrie by Stephen King: If you’re only going to read one Stephen King, make it either Carrie or Misery. I don’t feel like any film adaptations have captured all the aspects of this tragedy about a girl who deserved a better life and the town who didn’t save her while there was still a chance, including the epistolary format.
Rolling in the Deep by Mira Grant: This novella was followed up by Into the Drowning Deep, but I found Rolling in the Deep much scarier. It’s brisk and high-tension to watch a semi-fake documentary team put together, piece by piece, just what the monsters are that pursue them.
Dark Harvest by Norman Partridge: The Great Pumpkin, but scary! Seriously, though, if you are willing to accept the concept of a boy with a pumpkin head and a knife and a yearly child sacrifice, this is short and a lot of fun.
The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones: Just an elk killed when some kids were blowing off steam. Just an elk damning the rest of their lives. (Jones’s My Heart is a Chainsaw was too sad for me to recommend as a favorite, but I am curious about the sequel.)
The Wolfen by Whitley Striber: I wanted to include a good werewolf novel on this list, and The Wolfen wins by far for interesting creature design. (The runner up was The Last Werewolf by Glen Duncan.)
The Auctioneer by Joan Samson: A very atypical entry on this list, closer to Twin Peaks than your average thriller. A rural town is turned into a capitalist police state when a slick salesman comes to see what they’ll allow him to do. It turns out, it’s a lot.
The Drive-In by Joe R. Lansdale: The only “splatterpunk” I’ve ever loved, this is an absurdist nightmare about a southern drive-in crowd who get stuck in a world with only the movie screens and each other, turning into literal and figurative monsters. Usually published with the sequel, since both are short, though I didn’t like the latter as much. If you like it, read one of Lansdale’s short story collections.
As always, reblog with suggestions of your own!

rebels mermaid au where fishman!kanan has been stuck in an aquarium for a few years but can't do anything about it so oh well. He's bored out of his mind. Misses his family :( on the bright side he never gets tired of scaring guests that come to ogle at him. Only downside is he's not allowed to kill them. He tries whenever the chance presents itself, but that's not often. So he's really bored.
Zeb's his primary caregiver. They've developed a grudging respect for each other since Zeb is usually the one saving people from Kanan during every attempt, beat Kanan up the first time Kanan went for him. Secretly Zeb is a selkie that lost his skin and got the job at the aquarium to try and get it back from that idiot oblivious bloke working the rescue & rehab branch (kallus). The condescending son of a bantha doesn't even realize his favorite trench coat to wear outside of work is not,,, technically his. Zeb's been trying for years kriff someone help him.
Hera recently transferred from another branch location of the aquarium with her apprentice Sabine, who's an intern that gained access to the merman's care and research schedule via undisclosed means. She just wants to follow in Hera's footsteps. Hera recently managed to score research access to the merman through merit, hard work, and a good measure of association with the right people. Her focus is behavioral analysis, which---surprisingly---is not a test anyone at the aquarium has yet thought to conduct (not natural behavior, at least. A few specialized tests such as range of tolerance, response to stimuli, and others cracked right off the bat).
At first Hera's given a whole shakedown by security officials "don't do this or that, log all your hours with the asset so we can assign a protection detail, yada yada" but all those rules go against the structure for her research experiments plus she's friends with Mr. Garson the chief of security and manages to sneak in at times when the cameras run on a loop and no one else is there. It's this sneaking around and deviation from routine that first catches Kanan's attention. He's curious of course, and he hasn't tried to drown this particular human before so at least it's something to soothe the boredom. But then, get this, Hera introduces herself and ohoho that ethereal voice stops Kanan right in his fishy little tracks. Then she asks for his name and it snaps him out of his goofy frozen little daze and he blurts out "Kanan" because it's the first thing that came to mind and tbh it's been a long time since he's spoken out loud much less heard his real name.
Hera is just as surprised to hear him talk, actually. She'd been told that the merman didn't exhibit signs of high intelligence (lol) and had been acting pretty bestial so don't expect much engagement. It takes him two seconds to start chatting her up and then like two more seconds to fall hopelessly in love because come on she's hera and he's kanan. Zeb and Sabine eventually catch on to the late night sessions and join in a few times. Where's Chopper in all of this? He's probably a cat that just lives at the aquarium rent free and steals fish and knocks stuff over because he's a kriffing criminal. You'd think an animal that fat would be easier to catch and get rid of but no one's ever managed to do it so they just glare at him bitterly whenever he appears because they know there's not a single thing they can do to stop him. He did primarily terrorize the campus that Hera previously worked at and she brought him with when she transferred.
Enter Ezra after a few months or so idk. Rip the poor guy. He's another mer that got snatched from the sea somewhere and dumped in the aquarium after being subjected to all the same tests and experiements that Kanan had to survive when he was first taken. He's totally out of his element, confused and disoriented and thoroughly traumatized expecting at any moment to be pulled from the enclosure again and subjected to more "scientific" torment. Kanan is very startled to see Ezra. It's been years since he's seen another mer, and this one is just a kid. He's only fifteen! How could they just throw a kid in here for guests to gawk at? It must be the money. As far as Kanan knows, he's one of few mer in the whole world living in captivity, so the rare sight is really attractive for humans and they'll pay big bucks to come and stare all day. He's gotten used to it after years waking up to their dumbstruck faces every morning, but this is all very new to poor Ezra who is fresh off torture, going through puberty, and far more alone in the world than Kanan ever was. The kid takes to tailing Kanan all over the tank, glued to his side and can barely sleep because he's afraid Kanan will get up and leave him alone. At first the clinginess annoys Kanan but he eventually caves to compassion and does his best to offer comfort to the frightened boy.
Sabine asks Ezra if he knows any siren songs, as a joke. He brightens and tells her yeah actually, a pod of his whale friends taught him one and he's not quite perfected it yet but would she want to hear him practice? Not knowing any better, she agrees. Kriff can Ezra sing. Sabine goes catatonic for an hour or so. When she wakes up in the morning she calls in sick and spends hours and hours nonstop painting in her room at Hera's apartment, tears streaming down her face. The art she creates is absolutely breathtaking and if you tilt your head just right it looks like music too. Sabine keeps it covered.
Kanan jokes that Hera must have been a siren in a past life. Instead of getting flustered she bombards him with questions about his culture's take on the afterlife and would it really be possible that she was a mer? He has to backtrack while Zeb laughs at him. No, reincarnation is not a thing as far as his people are concerned. They don't even leave their bodies behind when they die. Apparently that seafoam thing is legit. Why else do you think they never discovered mermaids existed before capturing a live one? Hera's taking notes so fast her paper is smoking.
They order pizza a lot and just hang out together eating pizza at the poolside of the mer enclosure. It's really peaceful at the dead hours of night so there's lots of deep conversation, watching of movies, general cultural exchange, etc. etc. It doesn't take Hera too long to figure out that hey um,, these mers are people too. Why are we treating them like animals and putting them on display? They should be free and stuff. She and the rest of Ghost crew free Kanan and Ezra, maybe with the help of some others. Ahsoka swings by to give them a hand because she's got crazy powerful sea magic apparently and can give herself legs whenever the kriff she wants. Her good friend Rex might make an appearance too idk he happens to be related to a number of the security detail (corries) who hate their jobs and boss and would be more than willing to stick it to the corporation by liberating the aquarium's most prized assets. Kallus got roped into their found family by this point. He still hasn't given Zeb the skin back though what the kriff man. Is Leia there? I'd like to think she's a lobbyist for marine conservation or something, mostly because she visits her dad every weekend and the water tastes like crap sometimes especially when the big corporations play loosey goosey with polluting regulations and sea magic can only do so much to prevent extensive damage to the environment. Luke is not an activist he's just friends with Ezra so he can be a part of it too "oh him? That's my friend Luke. Yeah he can shapeshift cause his mom is human" Luke waves and everyone is too tired to question him or his chaos freak terrifying twin sister.
Oh turns out Chopper is a sea sprite? Feral mercat thing dear lord. Utter terror. The twins don't miss a beat with him because their dad has a bigger one with twice the level of cunning and an even higher body count, if that's believable (Ghost crew cannot fathom a body count higher than Chopper's but they're too afraid to ask at this point).
Anyways everything works out in the end and happily ever after and stuff. I just have fun with merm aus and *technically* this is the last day of mermay innit so i'm popping off

༄𝐁𝐓𝐒 𝐗 𝐟.𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫 | Fantasy, Mermaid AU | ༄𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 : 5.3k ༄𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 : Slight conflict/confrontation
Tumblr media
There was a golden blur and the sound of a tail cutting through water at an astounding rate. The next thing Jungkook knew, he was seized from behind, the nape of his neck bearing the weight and grip of his lieutenant's hand. Nerves coming to life, they in turn cause tiny shockwaves to encompass him.
"Move."
The word came out eerily calm, however the stunned Kook knew that it was anything but. The simple syllable being riddled with obvious venom and incomprehensible anger.
Nudging him forward while keeping his hold on the young merman's neck, both of them manoeuvred through the blueish depths, not another word spoken. Every now and again Hoseok would indicate to him to either veer left or right by firmly yanking on his nape in said direction.
This is it. Jungkook thought.
Hobs has finally lost it...
I'm gonna be turned into fish bait!
Grimacing, he continued to think the worst as they neared the outskirts of the colony. They passed one or two stone towers along the way, moss and algae climbing up their rocky sides where they in turn were trimmed to create intricate, decorative patterns. Beyond them, silhouettes of mer could be seen gliding between the natural structures, most likely heading towards their respective home dwellings for the evening.
Jungkook shakily exhaled, as he looked in the direction of his own home, which was non-visible from his current position.
His mother would be expecting him very soon, no doubt just starting on dinner. Oh how she would react if he was even the slightest bit late... He cringed just thinking about it, she'd lose it for sure! One of these days he feared that her heart would give out from all the excess amount of stress and unneeded worry she constantly put upon herself. He prayed for Poseidon's sake that she would stop thinking that the world was out to get them and instead be more carefree and relaxed.
Though, he knew that wishful thinking.
She wasn't fooling anyone when she hid those emotions behind a mask of a smile. Her movements always just that bit too stiff and her breathing noticeably shallow and forced. Sometimes he would wake up to her crying, her unsettling whimpers and shrieks echoing around their home while he could do nothing but hopelessly listen. Trying to comfort her would just earn him a response of 'go away', 'go back to sleep' or 'don't worry about me'.
Yeah...Her experiencing genuine happiness...Wishful thinking indeed...
A few more rocks and a curious onlooker of a fish later, his surroundings spontaneously darkened as he felt the pressure on his neck get released. His face met the ocean floor from the result of Hoseok shoving him into a tight crevice in the side of a mountain slope.
After taking a deep breath as his eyes adjusted to the lack of light, he cautiously pushed off of the hard ground, righting himself to face the daunting topaz scales of his companion. The Lieutenant in question hovered in the entrance, effectively blocking the merman's chance to escape.
Oh gods.. he was done for...
Not daring to look his superior in the face in utter fear of what he may find, Kook proceeded to wait in painful silence, focusing his gaze instead on a lone seashell embedded in the mostly barren sea floor. Oh how he wished he could just disappear and dissolve into seafoam right about now, anything to get away from an enraged Hoseok.
Said merman's voice ruptured through the waters once more, causing Jungkook's fins to stand on edge.
"Look at me."
Completely under the male's control at this point, Kook's head had no choice but to snap up, him gulping as he came into contact with Hoseok's eyes.
He flinched.
Oh holy mother of Circe.
Gone was the light behind them, the golden flecks of amber replaced by a dark, raging storm devoid of any warmth or comfort.
No, this was the sight of someone dangerous.
They remained like this, in a silent stare-off, just waiting for the other to react in some way. Either Jungkook out of obvious fear or for Hoseok to finally break and send poor Kook over to writhe forever in ‘The Shallows.’
"Give me one good reason... one very very good reason why I shouldn't renounce you of your position this very instant?"
Silence swallowing up the tight space, tension climbing and thickening as the words evaporated.
The younger's heart dropped to his stomach as he blinked a couple of times.
No...Oh please no!
If he was no longer deemed a soldier then it was goodbye to the little freedom that he had fought tooth and nail for all this time. He gazed into the hardened eyes of Hoseok imploringly.
"No! Y-you can't- Anything but that! Please... don't do this to me! Come on Hobs.."
"Answer the damn question Jung–kook."
The way he addressed him stung. Hoseok practically never called him by his full name and the fact that he said it with such spite and lack of remorse did nothing to alleviate the jab of pain in his chest.
"I'm still waiting for an answer."
"I..I uh...I-I can do..." He stalled, blinking back a few angry tears. "Urgh – Please! I need this role! You know more than anyone how much this means to me! If not for the good of the tribe then for my own bloody sanity!"
The last of his pleads bounced off the cavernous walls, seeming to mock him of his current state.
"Sanity huh?.." Hoseok conferred, crossing his arms, continuing to eye the boy with contempt.
"If that's the case, then what about the state of my own sanity whenever I hear about another one of your foolish escapades, hm? What's to stop you from going against the rules once more? Or the time after that?" He moved forward a fraction, tail flicking behind him as he gazed down on Kook with intimidation. "Convince me why it would be worth my while to keep you in the guard, for you to finally be disciplined enough to abide by your duties without me thinking otherwise."
"I..."
Jungkook paused, pondering.
The wise decision in this instance would be to go along with his superior's wishes, to just tell him the answer he wanted to hear and get a measly slap on the wrist. Then he could hopefully go on as normal and continue to venture out in secret.
But he realised that resorting to that would be pointless.
Yeah..
Something as simple as a lie, Jungkook concluded, stood no chance at getting past the all too observant Hoseok. He would know whether he is being genuine or not. Lies wouldn't work this time round, his elder's demeanour proved as such.
With all of this running through his mind, he mustered up the strength to state his real answer, no strings attached.
"No."
....
...
The lieutenant furrowed his brow, certainly not expecting the boy to go against his own self.
"No?"
The younger was quick to elaborate.
"Yeah... I don't think...no, I can't promise you that.."
"Not when you yourself refuse to be completely honest with me. You talk about trust and loyalty...heh well... how can you expect me to be compliant and rule abiding when you yourself fail to fess up about why I'm basically treated like a caged animal!"
"So no, I can't promise you that you can fully rely on me to be obedient in terms of where I can and can't go... not when I myself can hardly trust you in return.. oh great Lieutenant."
There was a brief pause as he fought to maintain eye contact, his superior's lack of warmth ever present contradicting the subtle flicks of his lively, golden fins.
"I see..." he uttered. "Looks like we're at an impasse."
The elder idled forward once more causing Jungkook to back up in response. He realised he was slowly being cornered.
Crap, now I'm really done for.
"You wanna know why you're treated as such, why you aren't allowed to roam free? Well this right here is precisely one of the reasons. I don't know if the red in your scales contributes to your hot headedness, or if you're just plain reckless at times – never mind, that's besides the point – no, the fact is that you let those pent up emotions of yours blind your awareness and as a result your decisions become sloppy."
Jungkook's back hit the cave wall, having ran out of space to get away. The lieutenant now looming over the boy displaying his dominance.
"Petulance isn't going to get you anywhere," he continued. "You've got to grow up and face the fact that the world's oceans don't revolve around you, so stop thinking that you have it so tough. Acting selfish like you did earlier and going off to Delphin knows where will only heighten the risk of potential complications – ones that we can't afford to have and could jeopardise the whole round scope of things."
"There you go again." Kook hesitantly spoke up as his jaw ticked.
"You keep diverting the subject by right out skimming over the details. What aren't you telling me!? How am I supposed to obey without question when I don't know what the hell is going on!? Why am I the only one who has to be so cautious?"
"Look, I'm telling you it's not that simple."
"Well it obviously isn't when you won't even attempt to make me understand in the first place."
"Believe it or not Kook, this has got to do with more than just you. However your very position in all of this can either make or break everything if it is wrongly breached. The situation you're in stems from something far greater than you can possibly grasp."
The red-finned mer groaned in frustration at the vagueness of his reply, it was like he held an exotic treasure that could solve all of his life problems just out of his reach. All the lieutenant had to do was lower his hand to offer it to him but he time and time again refused.
Hoseok shot forward, filling the last remaining gap between them by locking his hands onto Jungkook's shoulders, giving them a tight squeeze. This conversation he realised was becoming pointless as they were just going around in circles not getting anything across.
He took in the fired up state of his red-scaled companion, noting how his body instinctively shrunk under his gaze while at the same time wanting to fight against the submission. His chest rising and falling from getting worked up and the tendons on his neck becoming more pronounced.
"Look Bu- Kook..." he resolutely sighed.
"If there's one thing you can take away from all of this... that you can put your utmost faith into... is that when it comes down to it, you're my brother, the one I never had, no... who am I kidding, blood or not you are my brother." He stated that last declaration with the utmost confidence, now giving Kook's shoulders a more comforting squeeze.
Those twenty or so years ago, when he encountered the young Madam trailing along a very rambunctious, buck-toothed Kook, he knew that things would never be the same again. Their refuge meant the dawn of a coming war, one which he and like-minded others so desperately wanted to avoid...or hopefully delay.
His gaze ever so slightly lost its hard edge. The lieutenant hated getting even remotely angry, especially towards his fiery Bun. He just felt it went against his entire nature of love and light, as juvenile as that sounded.
"When have I ever not taken your well-being into consideration, put your life in jeopardy or led you astray? I promise everything will come together when the time is right. But for now, please.... please continue to trust that I have your best interests at heart. You're family to me and I protect my family."
Kook's head rose at that, as he none too kindly removed Hoseok's hands from his shoulders with a harsh shove.
"You're not you know.." he gazed at his elder.
"My real brother died a long time ago. He, unlike you, would have never kept anything from me."
With that the younger merman shouldered past him, his scarlet scales nicking the side of his waist as the lieutenant solemnly allowed him exit.
"I'm warning you Kook, don't do anything stupid!" He called out to his departing figure. "Go straight home, you hear me. Best not to keep your mother waiting any longer."
He huffed, pausing briefly before continuing.
"Do yourself a favour for once and have a good hard think about things."
The now red dot that was his Kook, never spared him a glance.
"Oh Bun.." he breathed out heavily, as guilt reared its ugly head. "Soon... Your time will come soon."
"Just hang on a little longer.."
Hang on for me, for your Ma...
" For Val.."
The last name barely whispered from his lips as he remained hovering in his place just outside the crevice opening. He looked out upon the blue world before him, processing all that had occurred beforehand.
Well, that was until..
*cRacKle*
....
*CrAckLe* *cracKLe*
"Huh?"
Mysterious noises made themselves known, filling the once silent void and causing the lieutenant become alert. Sensitive ears easily pinpointing the exact location of the sounds.
*cRacKLe*
Behind me.. he concluded. These noises.. They're coming from the crevice.
Schooling his features, he squared his shoulders, gearing himself up for a potential confrontation. Being the second to the Captain, he was far from being afraid; he'd already been through enough life threatening situations to ever feel even remotely frightened.
He could take on whoever dared to challenge him, it'd be their death wish. He'd make sure of that.
A sudden chill crashed into him, the drop in the water temperature making goosebumps arise on his toned arms and back, scales minutely shifting.
*cRaCkle* *CrAckLe*
It's now or never.
Having enough of this, he swished his scaled appendage, rotating to face the disturbance. His nails sharpening to provide further leverage and teeth bared to appear more threatening.
However.
What he assumed to have been a not so silent intruder, turned out to be further from the truth.
For it wasn't a who but rather a what.
An unnatural anomaly.
"By the gods.." he voiced in slight awe and uncertainty.
There, covering the rocky walls of the cave... was a rapidly growing layer of ice.
Tumblr media
"Madam Vanora, are you in?"
A chorus of high pitched voices sang outside the entrance of a particular home on the border of the Nephtis colony. They belonged to four mermaids with varying shades of greenish scales and long, flowy hair styled to perfection. They all waited with bated breath, hoping that the occupant was inside so they could get on with the real reason as to why they were here.
What separated them from just blindly entering the place was a thick and heavy piece of drapery, which in human terms, acted as a door. It hung over the entirety of the cave opening and was dyed a beautiful shade of red with accentuating golden embroidery at its edges.
"Do you think she's away somewhere?" One of the females spoke up after a good two or so minutes had passed and no one had answered the 'door'. Not a slither of movement was heard from within either, it was almost as if no one lived there at all.
"Oh don't be so stupid, the whole of Nephtis knows that the old lady never moves even an inch outside of this hovel. She's practically a hermit crab in a mermaid body."
"Shhh, she'll hear you!" The girl beside her whisper shouted, nudging her shoulder.
"And rude! She's not even that old anyway.. she's barely 900," One interjected, waving her hand about dramatically. "Oh, and I swear I saw her once at the Pledge to Selene Festival," Another with a more emerald coloured tail butted in.
"Whatever, if she is inside as you say then what's taking her so damn long?" The female who had first spoken up whined. "I'm suffering here! Why did she have to give birth to such a good looking son, that should be forbidden!?" She fake-gasped, clutching at her chest as if it had been pierced by one of those stereotypical love arrows, the female beside her patting her arm with understanding.
They all as a result spiraled into a deep conversation of gossip, not noticing that about midway through their very important debate on whether Madam Vanora's son's scales were more of a scarlet or deep crimson colour, that said mother of a supposed fallen god had graced them with her presence.
They were still in the midst of their life changing talk when she was forced to clear her throat, instantly shutting them up. Turning hesitantly with their eyes wide and some possessing beads of sweat, they all gave their elder synchronized bows.
"Why uh.. greetings M-madam Vanora, how are you this evening?"
There clutching the drapery in a tight fist and sporting a stiff smile, hovered a beautiful mer woman. Her tail bearing delicate rows of snow-white scales swayed keeping her in place as her turquoise orbs looked at each of them, giving the visiting mermaids a forced friendly nod.
"Hello girls. How may I help you?"
Even though she asked this, she already knew fair well why they were here. It definitely wasn't the first time that this same pod of mermaids had come by unannounced, hoping to interact with a certain someone. Her inquiry was more a way of being polite, a common courtesy if you will.
Looking back and forth between each other, two of the females pushed the one in the centre of their group forward, forcing her to be their spokesperson – or I guess you could say – spokesmer?
"Is um perhaps... your hunk of a- *cough* erm I mean.... is uh, Jungkook back yet?"
And there it was, the older female predicted, inwardly sighing.
How her son had gained the attention of a significant portion of the tribe's female population was beyond her. She knew for a fact that he wasn't one to willingly go chasing after them himself, if anything she would even be bold enough to say that he was a little intimidated by the opposite sex. Maybe that aspect was what drew them to him, oh and of course how could she forget about her dear Kookie's striking looks. There was no doubt that he inherited them from his equally as handsome father – Poseidon rest his soul.
"I see... well I'm afraid he is not, I am expecting him back soon. Though, may I ask as to what your intentions are with my boy, and at an hour or so before Helios departs at that? Shouldn't young girls like yourselves be at home instead and not off trying to seduce a certain mother's son?"
The pod of four, clearly caught out, froze, their faces turning stark white.
"No, no it's not like that! We're nothing more than his friends...we just wanted to check in on him, make sure that he is doing well you know. That's all we swear!"
"Hmm..." Not convinced in the slightest, she regardless, played along with their reasons. "Well I can assure you he is in fairly good health, he might even earn a promotion soon. But for that to happen he'll need some space and privacy to focus. Now that you know, best be on your way before your folks become worried."
"But wait Madam.. can't we at least wait for him inside? We promise we won't be in your way. You won't even know we're there. Please."
She clicked her tongue, gosh they were persistent.
"As I have previously stated, it is already far too late and I hardly have enough dinner prepared for more than two if I were to host guests, so I'm sorry but you'll have to come back another time."
The leader of the pod audibly huffed, no longer afraid to broadcast her annoyance at Madam Vanora's words, her patience having clearly run out. Flipping her hair over with more force than necessary, she turned away. "Urgh, it's useless. Come on girls, some individuals are clearly too stubborn."
She was stopped though by a second clearing of a throat.
"While you're at it, would you be so kind as to return this little guy back to his home. Poor thing seemed to have wandered in here by accident. Must've mistaken me for his family, we are after all said to be one and the same aren't we?"
The mermaid turned and gulped when she was handed a certain crustacean, that of a hermit crab, its beady eyes darting back and forth before hastily sinking back into the safety of its shell. It dawned on her then that the older female had overheard their insults towards her. She as a result paled further.
"Yes m'... L-let's get going everyone," she voiced and the next instance was zooming off in a trail of bubbles and foam. The others proceeded to follow their unofficial leader, giving the Madam a meek farewell out of respect.
Watching their outlines blend into the far distance, the mer woman couldn't help but shake her head in distaste at their clear desperation to earn her son's affections. Ah young love, she deduced, with an empty chuckle.
She was about to head inside again, however, much to her surprise, visiting hours didn't seem to be quite over yet; for amidst the ripples of retreating fins, one such scaled figure remained. No, an entirely new visitor altogether. A fifth mer which, unbeknownst to her had been concealed behind the back of the little group all this time.
Delight surged through the mer woman as she instantly recognised the lone mermaid.
"Mirren." She smiled, hovering forward towards her.
Now there was a sensible mer if she ever saw one. Not anything like those love struck fools eyeing her son down like he's prey ready for the taking. Mirren, a girl with such a kind and caring soul that the Madam had warmed up to her almost instantly upon their first meeting not all that long ago.
It couldn't have been more than four or five months ago that she along with her small familial pod had tumbled upon this little area of the sea, seeking out a place to start afresh. Next thing the mer woman knew, the mermaid was knocking on her 'door' and offering her a basket full of her delectable fish cakes. Even Jungkook seemed to get along with her which was a definite plus.
"Ms Nora!" she greeted jovially, pearly whites on full display as she enveloped her in a tight hug. "I hope I'm not intruding... not after that whole fiasco I just witnessed! You ok?"
The elder couldn't help but playfully scoff, patting her on the back before pulling back to look at her properly.
"Oh silly girl, it's always a pleasure to see you around here. Your presence has already done its magic and lifted my spirits."
"Aww shucks, I'm glad! Now be prepared, for I come bearing gifts!"
"Oh my!"
The mermaid known as Mirren reached down, picking up a displaced sack as big as the top half of her body, grunting at the slight weight even though the water naturally alleviated some of it. It proved to be quite unsteady in her hold as she fought to stay upright. Thankfully the elder was there to help distribute the weight.
"What on earth have you got in here, a baby whale? Why, it's huge!"
"Oh you know, some of this, some of that."
"Mhmm.." her eyes narrowed suspiciously.
They slowly backed into the Madam's home, careful not to drop the sack or bump into anything. Thankfully, they managed to complete the task efficiently enough, depositing the large mass into the centre of the main living space.
Looking at the young girl quizzically, Madam Vanora slowly undid the far too extravagant ribbon at the top of the present, careful not to tear it. Smiling, she ran her fingers over the thin strip of fabric, simply admiring it. She may or may not have a box full of these from all the past gifts she's received from her friend, but that's just between her and a rather weirded out Kook whenever he saw her discreetly adding to it. No, Mirren didn't need to know anything about her little ribbon collection or the next thing she'd have was a way too enthusiastic mermaid busting through the entrance with mountains full of the colourful strips.
Moving along, she placed the, this time, baby-blue ribbon, off to her side gently while getting back to the main attraction at hand which was the gigantic sack; it finally opened to reveal the contents to her more than curious eyes.
Oh holy father of flying fish sticks! She mentally swore, eyeing it all in disbelief.
Well, looks like she and her Kookie won't be going hungry for the foreseeable future, or lifetime at that, for within the enormous monster of a gift were piles upon piles of Mirren's freshly made dumplings. A golden outer layer fashioned into a spherical shape and stuffed with crab meat while others held different types of scrumptious seaweed.
The Madam's mouth couldn't help but water at the sight, though, she was quick to snap out of her reverie, turning to face the young female with a rather perplexed expression.
"Mirren, dear, I love you my sweet, but...this...." She motioned to the extensive food supply, "Are you trying to give us both an eternal stomach ache, how much is in here!?"
Her companion chuckled, amused at her reaction. "No, nothing of the sort!"
Her hand went into the pile of delicious goods, taking one in her hold. Breaking it in two, she offered one half to her older friend with hopeful eyes.
"Come on, try some, I know you want to."
Not able to refuse such a look, the Madam soon found herself nibbling on the golden treat, an instant dance of flavours gliding along her palette all complementing one another. She let out a content hum. Gosh, when it came to Mirren and food it was nothing but the best.
"Yay!" Mirren voiced with splendour. "I'll take that reaction as my go ahead."
"Go ahead?"
"Oh right! These were just leftover practice batches. I'm trying to perfect my skills for the upcoming Servitude to the Sol celebration, you do know it's in less than a week right?! These offerings need to be perfect!"
Right, the mer woman nodded thoughtfully. It's already that time of year again, gosh how time flies. The days tended to blend into one another when all she ever did was remain cooped up in her home, restricting interaction with most of the tribe. She had no one else to blame but herself for being out of the loop.
The humans recognised this event as the Summer Solstice, where the day outweighs the night, bathing the earth in its prolonged reverent light. For mer though, it was slightly more equivalent to a birthday, that being of Helios, the divine brother of the more favoured and influential Selene.
While his sister's domain was that of the sea and its inhabitants, he was more affiliated with the land above and tasked with watching over its dwellers, humans. With that being the case he didn't associate himself with merkind all that much and therefore was deemed less important.
That wasn't to say then that merfolk were obligated to forget about worshiping him. After all, he was family to their luna goddess and it wouldn't be all that respectful to her holiness to then disregard her next of kin.
"You'll come right? Jungkook too? I know you don't go out all that often but it would mean so much to me if you did. We could go together! I'm sure Helios will thank you for it."
Dithering, the Madam was at a loss as to whether to concede with Mirren's request. No doubt her son would be itching to go, he had all the previous years; anything to get out of staying cooped up inside for extended periods of time.
The mother wouldn't deny that she felt bad for restricting his freedom, that he should be allowed to go out and experience the world and what it has to offer like most others his age; but at the end of the day it was for his own good.
She would not lose another one of her boys... never again.
Rifling through the pros and cons she settled on a reason that could play out in both their favours. If she were to go then she'd be able to keep an eye on her Kookie, diminishing her fears of his safety as he'll be in her direct line of sight most of the time. He'll in turn be able to go and mingle amongst the tribe at his leisure and enjoy the celebration. Hoseok would most likely be there too as further support. He never let her family down in the past so that put her heart at further ease.
She looked at the currently pouting Mirren.
"Guess I'll have to repay you somehow after this generous donation of food.." she sighed, earning an excited cheer from her fellow mermaid.
"Yes!! Thank you! Oh Poseidon, we're gonna have so much fun! I promise you won't regret it!" The girl smiled from ear to ear, practically tackling the mer woman into another one of her tight hugs.
The mother playfully teased her at her overexcitement, patting her head.
"I'll hold you to that."
Tumblr media
Long after Mirren had left, thoughts of her son plagued her mind, drawing upon the fact that he still hadn't shown up.
Maintaining a suffocating grip on the doorway's drapery, the Madam craned her neck to view every possible angle, searching for that familiar scarlet tail.
But alas, no one met that description.
"Oh Delphin, where is that boy?" She muttered to herself with terse effort. His dinner is going to lose its freshness at this rate!
In the back of her mind though she knew the quality of his nightly meal was the least of her concerns, not when her dear boy was still out there, possibly alone....
..and vulnerable...and exposed...
Where everyone could see him....
Where they could potentially see him..
Out there where he could get caught, where he could get hurt....
Where he could get potentially k– Her chest tightened.
NO!
She shook her head in denial, refusing to finish that last horrid thought. Patrols are just going a little overtime...that's all...these things happen.
He's fine. He'll be here soon!
He's safe.
He's fine.
But what if he isn't... darkness interjected her affirmations once more, what if..
All the fears due to his lack of return continued to fill her mind.
She kept scanning the outside from their home entrance, grabbing tufts of her auburn hair in obvious worry. Still nothing!
Why isn't he back yet!?
By now she observed that night had befallen the colony, Helios long having made his daily exodus.
Her body shook as she let go of the red fabric to hide away once more in her tight spaced home.
One whole mackerel – her son's favourite dish – lay flat on the tiny dining table in the room's far corner, just waiting to be eaten.
She sank down to the floor, curling up her tail. Her eyes shut as she played a mantra of a prayer in her head, never relenting.
Please Kookie, my son, come home.
Please Kookie..
My son..
Come home!

Help I'm having thoughts about mermaid powers and Charlotte's redemption
I love the idea of a five mermaid season three where we get to see everyone working together, but does the power imbalance bug anyone else? Like, I GET why Charlotte got all three mermaid powers in canon- she was always just going to lose them anyway, and it fits nicely into her SuperMermaid(tm) villain arc, but if you make them all friends, it feels a little... unfair for one member of the group to be as powerful as three other members of the group combined, right?
I'm considering how I'd fix this (for a s3 fic maybe??), but I'm also just kinda curious what everyone's thoughts are. This is what I've come up with:
Charlotte keeps all three basic powers, but loses the more advanced weather-based powers that Emma, Cleo and Rikki have.
Pros: Not as difficult to explain, I don't have to think of some exciting new mermaid power
Cons: Charlotte doesn't get a unique ability like everyone else
Charlotte loses Emma, Cleo, and Rikki's abilities and gets the ability to do... something else, not quite sure what, but completely different from any of the other girls' powers.
Pros: Feels the most balanced, everyone has a unique ability, Charlotte gets something that fits her personality
Cons: I have to explain how the hell that happens lol
Charlotte keeps all of her abilities, and all of the mermaids learn that while they each had a natural pull towards one power or another, every mermaid has the ability to do every power a la Mako Mermaids. Charlotte is just the only one with enough audacity to assume she can do everything, lol.
Pros: The idea of Charlotte saying "Have you tried, though?" to Rikki asking why she's got all the powers and then being RIGHT? And it's been a year and none of the og three have even tried using the others' powers = hysterical, easiest to explain, narrative potential in them all helping each other work on improving their powers
Cons: Outside of the comedic potential? Boring.
Anyway. I'd love to hear everyone else's thoughts on how the show handles the show's power balance vs. how it SHOULD have handled it. I kind of wish she'd had her own power- if she hadn't Emma, Cleo, and Rikki's powers, they probably would have had an easier time accepting her into the group. Rikki even says that there are three powers = there can only be three mermaids, so I wonder how the addition of a fourth completely different power would have changed the dynamic.

i know you said you think 90s aquaman would be executed differently today - do you mind explaining how? I'm curious about it (and reading thru that series atm :P)
Absolutely! While I do think 90s Aquaman is the best overall run, there are plenty of cringe-y things that could be improved upon. I think a lot of people forget the context of the time something is published (unfortunately, the 90s are actually several decades behind us) and while that doesn't excuse anything, it does open up potential to see things that don't age very well.
I think the overall treatment of Mera and Dolphin would have been better. Dolphin is so clearly written as a Love Interest First, Character Second that it puts her in an unfair light. Mera as well is hardly in the series, which I don't think DC would want these days. If it was written today, I think DC would have kept Mera around and had Dolphin be the Other Woman/Love Triangle aspect. I hate love triangles, so I don't think this would be an improvement per say, but it is what I think would happen. They would probably develop both women as being opposites of each other though, which could be fun.
Speaking of, I think they would have spent more time on the Garth/Dolphin romance. It's clearly a "we don't know how to use Dolphin now" moment because she was not very developed outside of Orin's storyline. I'm still down for a Dolphin/Garth romance, of course, because I think DC is still too cowardly to let him fuck a mermaid. Maybe in another 30 years? But with Dolphin as a developed character, the romance could happen over time instead of over a few issues.
I think Koryak and all the interactions with his people would be handled with a lot more research and grace. Admittedly, I have never heard an Inuk individual's stance on this comic (if you know of anyone, please link me!!), but reading those issues now...much improvement to be made, for sure. I would love to have Koryak really promoted as an Indigenous hero and that could happen if they had the right writers/researchers on the team. His powers are cool and honestly, I really like Koryak. This also applies to Orm, who is also an Inuk in the series. Although his purple Ocean Master outfit is my favorite, I total redesign could be cool. My hot take is that Orm is better when he's a jealous human. Not that New52 Orm is bad (it's the only character change I LIKE in the recent series) but there's something SO funny about Aquaman having super petty villians.
Vol 5 has a huge cast of really interesting characters, but not all of them got to shine. I think it's more likely that several of them would have gotten mini series or limited solos if it was made today. There's so much opportunity to lean into different mythology as well from around the world.
I think the lore of Atlantis overall would not need much changing (it's nothing like the current run, but in my perfect world where this is happening, the current run is wiped out and restarted lol) BUT if they wanted to loop in some characters who came from anything post-Flashpoint, I think a lot of them would fit very well into the storyline. The downside is that the writers would need to use their noodle and actually adapt the characters, and Aquaman writers are not allowed to do that. I think DC takes them out back and shoots them if they try. That's why none of our faves are in the comics :/
so tl:dr...more respect for the female characters, more respect and research into cultures used in the story, and better focus on some of the minor characters. If only...

ronance au masterlist
for my own sake, because my brain is nothing if not all over the place, and i'd almost forgotten about some of these already lmao.
werewolf au. robin's a (feral) werewolf, nancy's a witch who wants to help. voted angstiest mess of the year.
vampire au. nancy's a vampire, robin's a self-proclaimed vampire researcher. it goes about how you’d expect.
soulmate injury au. after being admitted to the hospital at the same exact time on the same day when they were younger, nancy and robin are intrinsically linked through physical pain; what one feels, the other also feels.
haunted au. nancy can see ghosts, and after she meets robin, paranormal shenanigans ensue.
beauty and the beast au. self-explanatory. nancy is a cursed evil queen (the beast), and robin is a mushroom enthusiast who winds up trapped in the castle.
the little mermaid au. self-explanatory. robin is ariel, nancy is eric, but honestly the reverse would work just as well.
tangled au. self-explanatory. robin is flynn, nancy is rapunzel, and steve is the horse :) (but, again, the reverse would probably work well too.)
witches au. robin and nancy are both witches. robin is new to town and a little less experienced with controlling her magic due to her parents' insistence that she quash it. nancy, suspecting they're one in the same, befriends her before ultimately introducing her to the secret coven she's a member of.
body swap au. robin and nancy live in different towns in different states when, one day, out of nowhere, they both wake up in the other's body and have to navigate one another's highschool lives while also working out just whose body they're in.
investigative duo au. nancy's an investigative journalist, robin is a detective. nancy tries to sweet talk details out of her for stories but robin is a dumb lesbian who can't take the hint while nancy thinks she’s deliberately being obtuse to wind her up. after robin asks for her help on a case, they end up partnering together multiple times in the future to solve crimes.
angel and demon au. nancy’s an angel who’s bored of being angelic, robin’s a demon who doesn’t want to hurt anyone or anything. one day they meet when robin falls out of a tree.
the singer and the scholar au. robin and nancy attend the same university and share a required course. robin is a semi-famous singer who’s already popular on campus and immediately has the hots for nancy. nancy doesn’t want anything to do with her, but they end up being assigned to work on a project together after robin takes the vacant seat beside hers.
academic rivals au. smug bitch robin and repressed lesbian bitch nancy fight to be top of their year and future valedictorian.
basketball au. robin is one of the highschool basketball team’s best players. nancy is (once again) a repressed lesbian scholar trying to erase her own sexuality so she doesn’t ruin the image she believes she has to uphold. (very loosely inspired by little miss perfect.)
soulmate dream-walking au. nancy keeps seeing a strange girl in her dreams, but every time she tries to get closer to her, she wakes up before she can until, one dream, the girl approaches her...
elemental spirits au. nancy is a fire spirit too curious for her own good. one day while investigating water, the antithesis of her own element, she’s almost splashed by a water spirit playing in the river. intrigued, she questions the other spirit and begins visiting the riverbank regularly to talk to her.
ancient goddesses au. robin is the goddess associated with loyalty and identity, nancy with knowledge and bravery. their love story is told in the present through descriptions of natural phenomena they created in the past to express their love for one another.

A Nightmare Most Beautiful
⚠️ CW: Very dark and horrorish? ⚠️ --- Legends were if you go out to sea far enough you would be bewitched by a beautiful melody that will lead you into the ocean.
Death comes swiftly and quickly. No one knows whether they drowned as no bodies ever end up being found or something worse.
Others mentioned about a woman with pink hair or so they say. She looked like a human but had a fish tail. A mermaid perhaps? No one knew.
Many men have set sail on hoping to encounter said creature. But none have come back successfully.
Except for one man.
He had witnessed and seen everything but no one believed him. They all laughed at his absurd tales so why bother correcting them.
To them he was a crazy old man.
He had snapped out of his trance by the cold water of the sea where a bigger, scarier creature was awaiting them down below.
He looked to be a mix of a shark and human, similar to the other but very much different.
He would use his eyes to put them asleep and let them dream of happiness as his claw would slash right through them.
The only reason he lived to tell this tale was because of two things. His friend snapping him out of it whilst taking the hit himself and the creature taking pity on him by sparing his life.
Swimming up the other one (a siren he read later on) before surprisingly speaking his language.
"You can tell of the humans what happened but no one will believe you."
And he wasn't wrong.
Just then a smaller version of him came swimming out of hiding, looking at all the dead bodies before heading to the closest one to feed off of.
So that's what happened to them.
He didn't say anything, too afraid that one wrong word and he would be dead. They did speak their language.
The smaller one curious of the living human having never seen one before swam over before looking back at her parents.
"Can I eat him too Papa?"
"No, then that would waste our hard work."
"Aww." She pouted but nevertheless went over to another to eat.
He still couldn't figure out how he managed to escape. Maybe they had also taken him back to shore?
Till this day, they still haunt his dreams but he knew better now.
Whilst children were told of the mysterious woman watching over them, knowing if they behaved good or bad he knew the truth from down below.
Then again, who's to say they were in the wrong when the humans came into their territory.

Siren Sakura X Mershark Sasuke anyone 👀

If you're wiling to talk about it, I'd love to hear more about your siren au. You said Vex is getting weaker the longer she lets Percy live, is that just cause she hasn't been able to find anyone else to eat or is there some magic at play where if she enchants someone but doesn't eat them it costs her? How does Percy react when he realises? How does their relationship shift from pity on her side and whatever weird mix of emotions he'd be feeling about being saved, to starting to catch feelings for each other?
I'm asking questions but honestly just feel free to ramble about their meeting and how it all starts developing, this au has so much fun potential for angst and heartwarming moments.
Oh my god of course!
I think that the reason she's getting weaker is more of the latter. She used a good amount of her power to pull Percy in and she needs to kill him to get that back. But in my mind, she can still charm other people, she just doesn't want Percy to see that side of her. So she keeps choosing not to eat so she doesn't make Percy afraid of her.
I think it takes Percy a while to realize, mostly because he's never met a siren before so he's not exactly what they're supposed to be like. But I think Vax tells him, more like yells at him about it lmaoo. Vax is fucking pissed that his sister is getting weak and not eating because of her feelings for Percy. And Percy is just shocked and he tells Vex that she needs to eat.
And so she does. She lures in a sailor and kills them. And...Percy isn't repulsed. If anything, he kinda catches deeper feelings for her because he knows that she can kill him easily and it's reassuring to him. And more than that, after she eats, she looks hot a fucking hell.
But I think that when Vex stops pitying him is when she starts to see his real personality outside of him being scared and confused. He is curious about her and Vax and their relationships with the mermaids below and how their magic works. And he builds things out of the rocks and bits of metal and shells that wash into the cove.
I'm imagining the moment they get together comes a long while after his rescue. At this point, they both know about the other. Percy knows why Vex and Vax don't have a (coven? swarm? idk the word) of other sirens and she knows why he was in the water in the first place.
Vex is sitting on the rocks just outside the cove, just watching the moon rise and just thinking when Percy sits down beside her. They start talking and laughing and teasing each other like they have been. And then Percy looks back to make sure Vax isn't watching and he kisses her.
And in her shock, he says "We'll talk later" and jumps into the water to swim back into the cove. Vax laughs and jumps in after him, and being a much better sister, she catches up to him easily and pulls him back into another kiss with the salt water between their lips.

MerMay Idea - A young mermaid encountering a human (a diver) for the first time
(I’m going to assume bc you said Mermaid you want a woman mer-person p much, i guess now’s a good as time as any, if you want specific stuff like that, please dont hesitate to specify it can be a Mermaid, Merman, or for Gender Neutral just Mer Creature also thank you v much for your request <3
oh another thing for anyone, G/T is 100% on the table, i usually like to make the Mercreatures VERY much bigger than people but I’ll leave that up to anyone’s specifications)
            ~Mermaid x GN!Reader - First Encounters~
The Mermaid was swimming gracefully through the waters, twisting and turning and going wherever the current may have taken her, she didn’t much care either way, she had grown very bored of the same old things recently, same old sights, she saw the same creatures that walked and swam the ocean floor much like she did, she had seen it all essentially, she had swam through this area so many times in her life she knew it so well that she could practically navigate it with her eyes closed, she sighed... The Mermaid just wanted some excitement in her life, something new to see, a new fresh face... She watched as the fish swam along slowly, various creatures walking about on the ocean floor as she continued to swim, giving a small wave to the creatures before suddenly...
The fish had suddenly picked up the pace, so did the other creatures, many of them began to swim and run as fast as they could, this confused her ‘Hm, strange, what has them so frightened?’ She thought to herself, she didn’t have to wait too long for an answer as suddenly, something new appeared... This wasn’t anything like she’s ever seen before and her eyes lit up with such a curiosity, such an interest... What was this strange creature before her...? It was fairly large, it almost looked like she did just without a tail and rather with legs instead, it had some sort of fancy looking gear on, along with a suit, and then she realized just what creature she was looking at... This, was a human...
The Mermaid quickly swam behind a rock to avoid detection and watched the human swim around, she watched you with such curiosity in her eyes as you swam around and sometimes walked along the ocean floor, you seemed to be collecting something, it looked like trash, she blinked her eyes, just why would you be collecting trash...? There’s surely no practicality to any of this but that didn’t matter, what mattered is that there was a living, breathing human in front of her! She had heard many-a stories about these beings, some bad but also some good, she was never one to pick a side in all honesty... While she would still be cautious and mindful, she won’t just judge a book by its cover essentially.
She watched you clean up around the ocean floor for a bit, you picked up all kinds of trash littering around, meanwhile you were getting a strange feeling, it sent a shiver down your spine, it felt as if someone was watching you... You glanced around but saw nobody, which you hadn’t expected to down here, sure there were people waiting for you on the boat obviously but nobody came down with you, the most you saw were varying kinds of fish and other sea creatures, you looked at them in awe and smiled... A turtle was coming toward you, it seemed to be quite curious as well, you then frowned and your eyes went wide as you saw something hanging around its neck, as it tried to come closer it had gotten stuck on a rock... You carefully swam over, not wanting to frighten the little fella and ever so gently you began trying to get what looked like six pack rings that you would find on cans...
Meanwhile The Mermaid was still watching over you, she had almost gasped when she saw that poor innocent turtle, she always hated the trash that was cast down into her home... It always winded up hurting the other animals, she watched as you carefully and oh so gently removed the plastic ring from the turtle’s neck and stuffed it into your trash bag, she then watched as you gently pet the turtle on the shell, checking over for injuries, there didn’t seem to be any so you gave the turtle a gentle push and it was on its way, this made her softly chuckle and that’s when she heard you gasp and look over, her eyes widened a bit as she ducked back behind the rock, meanwhile you were in awe, wh-What did you just see?! Was... Was that a person...? There’s... There’s no way, she didn’t have any sort of equipment on! ...And that’s when you carefully swam over, to get a better look which made you both gasp this time, you saw that it was in fact, not a human... She... She looked like a Mermaid.
You had heard of Mermaids in all kinds of stories, some portrayed them good and then some portrayed them evil, you carefully swam back a bit before she gently smiled at you and held up hands in defense “Ah... Please, do not be afraid of me human... I mean you no harm... I apologize for lurking and watching you like that... I simply wanted to see what you were doing...” You blinked, you... You couldn’t believe this was happening but it, it was, it definitely was... “Yo...You... Are you... a Mermaid?” She perked up at this “Ah...! So you have heard of my kind as well, yes, yes I am... My name is Mareena... Do you have a name? I feel as though it would be improper to keep addressing you as human...” You nodded “My name’s (Y/N)...” Mareena had a gentle smile on her face as she swam over and around you, she was seemingly trying to get a better look of you “...That’s a lovely name... You’ll have to forgive my boldness... I have never seen a human before, this is my first time seeing one of your kind up close...”
You nodded at that statement “I think... We can both agree on that one, I uh, I’ve never... Never seen a Mermaid either... Not up close like this” Mareena hummed and then finally swam back in front of you “...A first time for everything... I want to thank you for helping one of my friends out like you did as well... I do not have a gift in which to thank you with but... Next time you come back, I will be sure to have one prepared to show my gratitude...” You looked at Mareena and shook your head “O-Oh no... That won’t be necessary... I just want to help out in any way I can” And then she hummed at this “...I understand...” You then heard a voice call out from one of the pieces of your equipment, it was one of your friends asking if you were alright “Oh, I uh, I gotta go... B-But uh, I’m sure I’ll be back, I wouldn’t mind... Seeing you again” Mareena nodded “And I wouldn’t mind seeing you again either, (Y/N)... For now, don’t worry your friends, I can assure you, this will not be our last meeting...” Now the both of you had something to look forward to, the both of you would have a newfound excitement to your lives and the both of you could not wait to learn more about one another...
(I uh, I hope this is adequate gfjkdlfgjds or something like you wanted at least a lil bit)

No one asked, but I really wanted to answer it!
Ask game.
3 - 3 films you could watch for the rest of your life and not get bored of?
And I actually have 4 so... Here we go!
Treasure Planet. So underrated, which is totally unfair. Beautiful story and one of the few (if not only) Disney movies that don't have a love interest for the MC. It's all about growing up and finding yourself and found family. In fact, just realized, Jim is like Stag in that regard. Both were abandoned at a young age by their fathers and became rebellious to the point of being impossible to deal with until their father figure came into their life. And also, never having a father of my own to look up to, this really resonates with me. Haha, Deshi's dad left him at a young age too. I'm sensing a theme. 😆 Unlike Stag though, Deshi doesn't need a father figure in the sense that he's not looking for one nor does he find one. (Although Lord Carroll does get close...)
Sinbad, another underrated film. By Dreamworks this time. The most alluring part of this film:

That fucking hair!!! Man, I could just watch how her hair flows forever. Like, nobody has ever made hair that moves like this before, or since! It's close to underwater hair, but not quite, so Little Mermaid doesn't count. But seriously, that fucking hair. And Sinbad is pretty funny. 😆 Most quoted scene between Deo and I, a dude gets thrown up by a sea monster, shakes it off, and goes to attack again. "Give that guy a raise." -Sinbad Yes, please. He deserves it. 😀👍
Anastasia. I loved this movie growing up. Rasputin what such a terrifying bad guy, and Anastasia was anything but weak. Despite it not being a Disney flick at the time, it broke the mold on Disney princesses. Tangled and Frozen hadn't come out yet and Anastasia was the only princess to do what she wants, when she wants, how she wants. Instead of the man saving her from some evil villain, he saves her in the very beginning from a threat to the royal family. And then she saves herself from Rasputin at the end. Well, and Dimitri, because, you know, he was hanging off a bridge. So many movies before this were misogynistic and so many after are so feminist that they really diss on males, but in Anastasia, they are equals simply facing the world together, and to me, that's just beautiful. And this:
Tumblr media
And last but not least, A Little Princess. This is an older movie about a girl whose father travels the world. These two have a close bond and one day, he has to leave her because he needs to fight in a war, and over night, she becomes orphaned at a boarding school, so she becomes enslaved to the headmistress. Even after such tragedy struck her, she still believed in magic and told stories to the other girls. There was always this sort of mystery to her. Where others saw color, she found friends. Where others saw weakness, she saw opportunity. She's kind throughout the entire thing, and so much bad is thrown at her! Annie, eat your heart out and make way for A Little Princess. She always believes that magic is real, and when she falls, she gets back up again, even though sometimes it takes a little time. She's patient and accepting and just everything little girls everywhere should aspire to be. And in the end, she gets the honor of seeing that if you keep believing, the magic is real.
And those are my favorite films I could watch over and over again. ^^ I'm curious, how many have you seen of these? I feel like they're all a little underrated, outshined by other movies at the time. Poor Sinbad had to fight with Pirates of the Caribbean. A Little Princess got overrun by Pocahontas and Toy Story. Lilo and Stitch came out the same time as Treasure Planet. Anastasia isn't as underrated as the others. 😅 If you haven't seen one of these, highly recommend. I mean, I'd be okay watching them on repeat, so, yeah. Thanks for reading! And I'm still open for some personal asks if anyone's interested. ^^ And I'm totally willing to redo 9, since the last one was so entertaining. Fair warning though, that was probably my best story, lol. Have a good day!
