Not an art post, but I had a thought regarding Demise’s curse. (This is a Linked Universe headcanon of mine, and it’s… not about the Links? And it’s sad, so bear with me).
I subscribe to the belief that when Skyward Sword Zelda (Sun?) dies, she will become Hylia once again. Zelda has always just been a vessel for Hylia’s divine spirit to reside. And so once that vessel fails her, she will ascend and take up her role as the Goddess again.
Sun knows this. She’s known it since she regained her memories of Hylia.
And she dreads it. Every moment, it’s in the back of her head. One day, Link will take his final breath. His spirit will pass on. And hers will not. While they’re inseparable in life, she will not be able to follow him wherever his spirit goes in death.
So when the curse is revealed to have been true, when Link (Sky) is called away to another adventure with the bearers of his own spirit, Sun is secretly relieved. Yes, she mourns the fact that these men- these children- had to face such dire circumstances because of a fight that she herself, as Hylia, could not win. Yes, she sees how much it tears Sky up to have that guilt on his shoulders. And she’s definitely unhappy that he’s unhappy.
But each new Link shares the same spirit as her beloved. And when Sky passes on and Sun ascends to godhood once more, she can keep an eye on him. His spirit. His incarnations. Forever.
Yes, they’re all very different people from different walks of life. They all have different experiences that shape them into their own unique personalities. They are not Sky. And their relationship with her will never be the same as what she and with him.
And that’s okay. Because even if they don’t know her, she knows them. She knows Link.
Even if they have forgotten her, even if they despise her, she watches over them. She does her best for them.
They’re all her Link.
And she loves them.
