2016- Train to Busan
Always nice to get a spin on zombie movie settings. This one's a cool and claustrophobic ride with a lot of great characters and a memorable ending.

Any cool gas station ghost stories?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thank you for the call(s)! Wilbur Soot reported to us that his favorite flower is Foxglove! He also clarified that the slushie machine has been replaced since the rat incident.
[transcript below]
Anonymous Caller:
Any cool gas station ghost stories?
Caller Fictokinpothos:
Have you experienced anything paranormal? If so, what’s the story? PS: what is your favorite flower?
Wilbur Soot:
There aren’t really any ghost “stories,” in the sense that nothing is ever reoccurring. Also it’s Utah, so almost every story I hear is a horror story.
I don’t think it’s really a ghost, but there is this guy who walks in sometimes and just... stands in the aisles and stares at me. I can never really get a good enough look to figure out what they look like, and they always walk in [to the store] when I’m in the break room. They always duck away when I try to look at them, even if I’m really subtle about it.
Other than that, the scariest thing that’s happened here was when a rat got into the slushie machine.

i see a lot of interpretations of zor being this otherworldly, anomalous presence- larger than life, practically non-human. and i, too, like perceiving zor through this veil of anonymity. i think making them too tangible or perceivable really detracts from what's been established about their character.
but, i personally really, really like the thought of zor being human. mortal. but terrifying to the point where you'd be forgiven for forgetting it.
i think one of the things that i adored about ieytd before the third game dropped (and honestly made me a little disappointed when it was changed later on) was the fact that the agency never had a face. it just... was what it was. it had facets- granted, the EOD was always the only one of any relevance. but, really, think about what we know about the agency between all three games. compare that to how much we know about zoraxis.
there's something really appealing to me about zor being who they are... they're probably the most wealthiest person on earth. they had a monopoly that quite literally gripped the world in their first- as their emblem would suggest. they hire some of the most lethal minds in the world- chemists, inventors, engineers.
and yet... despite it all, they're just one person. to me, their anonymity is a shield against the fact they are a person. they hide behind the lethality and prowess of their elite operatives- not to mention we've seen how clever they can be when it came to manipulating prism. they're by no means useless.
but what would they be without their anonymity? what would they be without the weapons they didn't design, the lairs they didn't build, the employees they use as human shields? the second zor is gone, zoraxis crumbles. they are the support pillar of their entire corporation.
... but what's the agency's equivalent? even post morales being a character, can we be certain that he's the glue holding the entire organization together?
think about zoraxis' most lethal schemes. seizing control of the world's atomic weaponry. striking targets anywhere on earth's surface with a giant laser. exploding the brain of every telekinetic agent on the planet. are they really seeking to cause as much damage as possible- to the agency specifically, collateral, or otherwise?
or do they not know where to strike. zor's tactic- for as high the stakes have been escalating- has always carried a similar motif. cleave and strike indiscriminately until the threat is neutralized.
but it never works. zor is lashing at a hydra- sprouting new heads where the old ones have been lopped off. they don't seem aware of how to destroy the agency other than exterminating each and every one of them off the face of the earth, in whatever way is most convenient at the moment.
i just think there's something to be said about zoraxis- and by extension, zor- always being seen as this oppressive, near-otherworldly force, constantly applying pressure on phoenix... when for all we know, zoraxis could be perceiving the agency in the exact same light.
zor, ultimately, has one beating heart. the agency has thousands. and all of them are dispensable.

Even as a kid I knew there was something just wrong about A Bad Case of Stripes
It gave me a weird feeling as a kid too, and I think it's a combination of the illustration style and the subject matter.
David Shannon has such a particular, oil painting esque style. Most of his illustrations are very cartoony, like his iconic No David books:
Tumblr media
Like look at that! The features and proportions are exaggerated! Full of bright colors! Reminiscent of something a kid might draw.
But then there's A Bad Case of Stripes. In this book Shannon seems to lean much more into the realm of surrealism, and the result is...
Tumblr media
...uncanny. I mean look at those faces!!! Nothing like the caricature bulbous head of little David. These guys look like they crawled out of a Renaissance painting! Look at the shading!!! It looks like you could reach out and touch those little fuzzy blue pompoms! Which brings me to my next point...
A Bad Case of Stripes is just... kid-friendly body horror. There's no gore in it, but what this girl goes through is something straight out of a fever induced nightmare.
Just like those creepy realistic renders of what Patrick Star or Homer Simpson would look like in real life (remember those?) It's the realism, the 3d look, the impeccable shading that makes Stripes so damn creepy. In a more cartoonish style, Stripes probably would've been a wacky little kids book. But because of how realistic the illustrations are...
Tumblr media
...We wound up with the suppressed birthplace of body horror phobias for generations to come.

2020- Host
A group of friends decide to conduct a seance over zoom because it's peak pandemic lockdown and what the fuck else is there to do. The characters feel a lot more real than we usually get in the found footage subgenre. The scares are incredibly well suited to the medium, ramping up from subtle to overtly terrifying. You can see the ending coming, but somehow that makes it all the more effective.
I've also never seen a movie that felt like such a perfect encapsulation of a moment in time. The first year of pandemic feels like such a fever dream already that adding a monster to your free zoom call is kind of like 'well yeah, after the murder hornets this seems plausible.'
All of 56 minutes long and well worth every second.

“You’re–” Klaus stammered, clearly in shock. “You’re full of shit aren’t you--?”
Gayle inhaled and paused. “Krueger, I know it’s hard to process, but–”
“You think that you can break me. You think that by jumping in here and telling me my dad is dead will somehow get me to comply with your shit. But it won’t work.”
Gayle walked towards Klaus, trying to comfort him in some way, but Klaus jumped back, swiping away at the doctor.
“Besides, I never cared for that fucker! The only thing he ever did for me was get me trapped here.” He was sobbing now. “He spent his every waking moment chasing down the Demon, forgetting that I even existed. To him, I was just another reason to get even with it. So even if he was dead, even if you killed him, you won’t get me to budge.” He was practically screaming now. Gayle slowly stepped back, keeping his eye on the kid in front of him, before bumping into the door. He only took his eyes off of him for a second to lock it. Immediately after the lock clicked, he heard a screaming sob from behind the door. He didn’t even flinch, accustomed to the sound by now.
Gayle’s footsteps faded away from the room, squeaking on the tile.

Every time i cringe when old of mine gets notes again, I then get this kinda swell of pride
Like man I never would've thought that a silly doodle I did in the middle of a hyperfix in 2019 would over 4 years later bring a smile to someones face
Like how many times I've gone down internet rabbit holes and found fanart over a decade old but still managed to bring a smile to my face, how many abandoned fics and comics and art people dont really think abt anymore still bring me joy when I stumble upon them
And I might not be proud of my old work because I've improved and I get embarrassed because I know I could do so much better if I re-did it nowadays, but like thats not the point. When I made it way back when it made me happy, and while it's not up to my personal standards anymore, it still makes other ppl happy. Other ppl arent holding my old art to the standards i am.
My one lil moment of joy that sparked a doodle inspiration kinda went across time and brought a smile to someone else's face way down the line when im not even really in the fandom that doodle was for anymore
AUs I've since gone back and went "eugh" with because I know I couldve approached them with better designs and writing nowadays, even tho I don't think it's good enough, someone else does, and like. thats just. thats just nice.
Idk. I dont have a point to this. I just hope that stuff i make today makes ppl happy years down the road. That's a nice thought.

Sprinkles....with " im pregnant"
Babies!
You were excited to tell Sprinkles that you were pregnant, you knew that he would be really happy about it! You left the test under his pillow, in a plastic baggy of course, and waited.
You, of course, didn't forget about it but you guys got distracted by stuff, so it did slip your mind a little until you came out of the bathroom, drying your hair with a towel and you saw him holding the little baggy, staring down at the test blinking slowly then he turns his head to look over at you.
“Oh-” you start, then slowly walk over and sit down. He shakes the bag, silently asking if it was real? Or at least that's what you hoped, you nodded “It's real... We're having a baby”
Sprinkles puts down the bag and reaches out, putting his hands over your tummy. It looked like he was going to cry... he leans forward, leaning up to nuzzle his skull against your neck, letting out happy little sounds. “L...Love you”
The voice caught you off guard, and you look at him, but he wasn't looking at you, still just nuzzling into you purring happily. You knew that he was able to talk, just normally he didn't because of how weak his jaw was... you smile and kiss the top of his head, mumbling “I love you too” that night he held onto you, and in the morning, he woke you up with food in bed!

There are a couple tropes I really love in the space of Miraculous Ladybug fan works, but quite possibly my favorite is when the miraculous holders just get creature from using their powers.
Like yeah, I would say that hosting the power of an abstract concept given sentience, that got shoved into the shape of an animal and bound to a piece of jewelry, would kinda mess with your body a bit.
The little bit of this we get in canon is basically that Adrien loves being a cat and the whole Tikki munches incident.
But I love it when people give them ears and wings and tails, give them eyes that aren't quite human anymore. Fuck with their gender and their sense of body. Sometimes it's body horror, sometimes it's just aesthetic. Love it either way.
I just think it's so fun, a lot of the time it's combined with the like "when a holder and the kawami really respect and bond with each other there's nothing that can be done except having magic bleed into the holder" I think that's fun, but also just making the animal of the kwami a bigger deal is fun. Like if you're going to make it a ladybug you might as well give her wings and antenna and mirrored eyes.
#yes I do like ml#there's just so many characters I like to mess with in my head#also sue me I'm trans and have a certain respect for body horror. for the forced change of your physical self especially when you chose it#anyway I alwasys ramble in the tags#I set up this side blog to hide random writing thoughts I had and oh boy do I have a lot and none of them are on here#and recenetly (and by recently I mean like the past year) I've been hit with so many ml thoughts)#they're all gay#and some of them are cohesive#actually a lot of them revolve around chloe and au's where she gets a meaningful improvement arc#give that gay girl intresting stuff#miraculous ladybug#ml#although one of my ideas is also my very fun very gender take of ml where to conceal their identities ladybug and chat start pretending#to be different people under the masks like they don't need to like explicitly say. they just#switch costumes a lot and they like slyly hint at maybe theres dozens of people who pass around the miraculous to make sure that their#Identities are always safe#and to support the act they also start changing the genders they present as as holders. everyone is like “it's clearly multiple people”#and during this process marinette and Adrien are both like slowly having personal gender revelations#and gabe is like tearing his hair out over having to fight this secret group of superheros that he can never find or catch#but he's still just getting his ass kicked by two kids who're doing the world's most successful costumes change bits#it's like those “fake dating” tropes where they're like “oh but we really do love each other” but with gender#“oh I've got a great idea lets pretend to be different genders sometimes”#cut to “hmh ok so I think I'm not pretending anymore”#oh I do always ramble in the tags
