Can we talk for a moment about how much influence Chifuyu has on Ryusei?

And how does Chifuyu always know what to do and say when it comes to Ryusei?

Let's start with the fact that Chifuyu knows immediately when there is something wrong with Ryusei.

Chifuyu may not know what Ryusei is thinking, but he knows he can knock it into his head (literally) that Chifuyu fully accepts him even if Ryusei annoys him like no one else.

Matsuno makes it clear to Ryusei that he is not alone and that he has Chifuyu’s and the entire division's support.

No one can make Ryusei feel better than Chifuyu. No other person can make Ryusei have such a soft expression on his face. Even if it required violence and screaming, Ryusei can find comfort in it. Because fist language is their language that Chifuyu and Ryusei can communicate with each other.

Chifuyu clearly shows Ryusei what true friendship is. A friendship he obviously couldn't understand before because he hadn't experienced it. He believed that Koijro was his friend, but it was only through Chifuyu that he could see what it should look like. His dedication triggers something in Ryusei. Something is really awakening in his previously empty eyes. Life returns to them, even if only for a moment.

Chifuyu didn't know friendship before either. He had "followers", not friends. Only with time he began to understand what friendship is, which in the case of his relationship with Ryusei was something natural.

When Ryusei is convinced that there is no turning back, it is Chifuyu who proves him wrong again. Though Ryusei has tricked him many times, Chifuyu still believes in him and assures him that he will continue to believe in him no matter what. Chifuyu gives him a kindness he has never experienced before.

Chifuyu may say he doesn't understand Ryusei, but he's actually the one who knows him best. He can be some mistery to him, but Chifuyu instinctively always can reach him like no other.

the subtle way that the magnus protocol is building its horror like a apartment complex over the graveyard that is the magnus archives is soooo fascinating to me. I don't just mean the inclusion of gerry and gertrude or the fact that gwen is a bouchard, I mean just the faint brushes of tma everywhere: sam and alice are exes, just like jon and georgie. something about needles and his coy-but-flustered monologuing is reminiscent of michael and the other twinkifiable avatars in tma. sam trying to break through locked doors and what we know about door symbolism. colin and his jon-like descent into paranoia, and his melanie-ish casualness around (probably) doing illegal or dangerous things. alice making corny jokes and sounding ever-so-slightly like Tim. Lena and food versus Elias and cake. the narrative is haunting the narrative...oh dramatic irony, we're really in it now

Sometimes you don’t NEED skin on skin

Just to really bring the point home for those who have not read the Six of Crows duology and think that Inej deserves to “have some fun before she finds her way back to her true love”, or who perhaps think that a love triangle/jealousy drama would somehow spur Kaz into action (do you even know Kaz Brekker?):

For someone connected to the production to caption a photo of the actors with the (crack) ship name of their characters (“Tonej”) and talk about “skin on skin” might seem innocent (”it’s just an Insta post”), but let’s look at the context for those who are upset by this – some of whom have suffered similar traumas and find comfort/inspiration in Inej’s character.

Here is a sample of Inej’s previous experience of skin on skin:

There were young men, old men, handsome men, ugly men. There was the man who cried and struck her when he could not perform. The man who wanted her to pretend it was their wedding night and tell him that she loved him. The man with sharp teeth like a kitten who had bitten at her breasts until she’d bled. And these are the men she remembers; mostly she forced herself to go numb, while making all the right noises and moves so Tante Heleen would not abuse her further.

Because she loves Kaz, she tells him she is willing to work on that trauma IF HE WORKS ON HIS. This does not mean that she is itching for skin on skin action there and then, it means she wants to be ready for it if they are to have a future together.

What if he had come to her, laid his gloves aside, drawn her to him, kissed her mouth? Would she have pulled him closer? Kissed him back? Could she have been herself in such a moment or would she have broken apart and vanished, a doll in his arms, a girl who could never quite be whole? Crooked Kingdom, p. 275 Kindle version

This is her mindset as she boards that ship in S2E8. She does not need a man who is basically a stranger to be her ticket out of trauma – not even a lovely one like Tolya (who in turn does not need or want romance in his life to be fulfilled). She needs healing, a purpose and – as a character – not to be reduced to half a ship in a fling which would be nothing but a waste of precious screentime.

I realize that probably most of us who love Ryusei have a bit of a crisis at the thought that he actually betrayed Toman and he is a spy. He admitted it himself, but it's not the first time he's tricked someone (look: Chifuyu all the time), so we can't fully believe him.

But you know who we can trust? Peke J!

As Chifuyu pointed out, Peke J couldn't be intimate with a bad person and he accepted Ryusei. This cat would probably sense duplicity in Ryusei, right? We have to believe his judgment because Peke J is obviously the most believable character from Tokyo Revengers.
