For the Star Wars ask prompt: 18. what is your favorite star wars book or comic?
This may change when I'm more caught up on comics (I have the 2 big Darth Vader runs to get through plus everything set pre-TPM) and I'm not going to allow myself to say RotS novel bc my love of it kinda goes without saying. Hard mode I'm also gonna forego saying Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor bc I never shut up about how much I love that book and people are gonna get tired of me lmfao. And I'm not gonna allow myself to say the Jabiim arc of the clone wars comics bc smarter people than me have already posted at length about why that's so good. Okay wow I just made this exceedingly difficult for myself. RIP.
So with those all barred I'm thinking it's Master and Apprentice by Claudia Gray, which is about the fraught relationship between teenage Obi-Wan and youngish Qui-Gon. I keep coming back to it and borrowing shite from its worldbuilding in fanfic etc bc I enjoyed a lot of the concepts it added to the gffa- the aspect of the culture on Pijal where ornamentation is present but hidden and the outward appearances of objects is always plain (I.e. fancy tables only decorated on the underside, the clothes of the wealthy containing embellishments only inside the sleeves, etc) was super interesting to me, as was the introduction of kohlen crystals (I may or may not be using them in some future fanfics... shhh...).
I found the symbolism there really cool in light of the fact that the main plot is a murder mystery, and with every new twist introduced the author emphasizes that once again nothing is what it appears to be at first glance.
The obligatory "criminal with a heart of gold" role in every Star Wars story was here filled by my two absolute favourite Glup Shittos of all time, Pax Maripher and Rahara Wick.
Pax is a human who feels like a robot trying to be human- he grew up stranded where he was the only organic being on a ship full of protocol droids who raised him. 11/10 character creation, no notes.
Rahara is a former slave who is consumed with the thought of vengeance but has a good heart, her narrative acts as kind of a primer, foil and foreshadow to when Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan's stories intersect with Anakin's 10 years later.
They're jewel thieves of a sort, and though I'm not sure if this is intentional on the author's part or a coincidence, I was really captivated by this one moment where one of our Jedi boys having recently met the two is reflecting on how "there are some people who are simply drawn to the light." That synthesis of the metaphorical draw to do what's right and the literal glint of a jewel, on a planet where jewels are intentionally concealed on the inside of a design so that the true beauty and worth of any item is only visible to someone who looks beyond the surface...
Okay I'm starting to realize I should probably write an analysis of Master and Apprentice at some point. Lmao. For now I'm gonna stop here except to add one more thing I found delightful: the concept of "performance artist terrorists".

Hi there! Sending kind thoughts your way. 💝
“Utapau” for the Star Wars ask game.
Thank you my dear! ❤️
Utapau: Personal ranking of the episodes:
The Empire Strikes Back: I mean, c’mon. How can this not be the best one? The fight with Vader, the reveal? Bespin City? Leia and Han “I love you, I know”?!
Revenge of the Sith: despite being the prequels™️ the drama of it all, the inevitability that we already know what’s going to happen and the angst of it all? Easily trumps any of the other prequels
Return of the Jedi: No notes. Stellar. I could write essays on how compassion is the true strength of Jedi and how Luke’s choice to not kill his father is the way he defeats the Emperor, through compassion.
The Force Awakens: Really reignited my love for Star Wars. I mean yeah a lot of the plot is recycled but it really showed the potential the sequels had.
The Phantom Menace: The beginning of it all. Baby Luke and Padawan Obi!! Babies!! Also no lightsaber duel will ever go as hard as Duel of the Fates, sorry not sorry
A New Hope: I may get shit for this being low on the list but, to be fair, I watched it probably ten thousand times as a kid so it kinda wore out
Attack of the Clones: Terrible writing, angsty teenage Anakin kills me every time. “I’ve been dying every day since you came back into my life”? Damn girl ok I’ll fuck off then- how is that supposed to be romantic?
The Last Jedi: The only redeeming quality was Kylo and Reys fight scene in the throne room. The rest was awful
The Rise of Trash Skywalker: ….Do I really have to say anything? 🤢🤢🤢

3: which character are you actually most like?
My usual answer to this is Anakin bc I share my worst traits with him and as soon as I saw it I was like "hm OK I am going to hijack this hyperfixation to love and accept myself" but. I think we do have very different cognitive flavours. The mental babble that goes through my head... Imagine all the anxiety of C3PO but none of the executive function 🤯
12: do you care who Rey's parents are?
Heck no. To be honest the sequels never managed to get me to care about Rey, which is probably why I only watched them once, but I would have really loved if the damn plot had stuck to the initial "who your parents are doesn't mean shit, YOU get to decide who you are" type thing it was briefly flirting with.
17: what is your favourite line?
In no particular order:
Obi-Wan stumbling from "We have" to "I have a policy on traps" when he thinks Anakin is dead (fuck you Stover)
"And then remember this. The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle." (I need this tattooed on the inside of my fucking eyelids) I love this one because it's a reminder I personally need often. I tend to go through life with some sort of unspoken/often unconscious (because it's a reflex, something I don't always notice I'm doing) preconception that the universe is somehow weighted in favour of those who grasp at power for the purposes of abusing it, and feeling like the laws of physics are somehow stacked against it doesn't change my willingness to do what I think is right but it does fuck up my outlook on life and increase my sense of alienation from other people and is generally just not a beneficial thing for someone who wants to someday die part of a better world than I was born into to be carrying.
That bit of narration where book!Vader is cracked out on dark side juice and resolves to keep Padme out of the conference room because "She wouldn't like the way he had redecorated" (it's full of corpses)- it's just something we really don't get to see in the movie at all but the way he's wisecracking as he murders them and the like delirious thoughts give such a window into his mental state
When Trilla fuckin asks Cal Kestis who died so he could live after the whole rest of the game has been building up his survivor's guilt and with Cere's story foiling his and just. Woof.
"Failure the greatest teacher is" and also when ghost Yoda torches the library and is just casually like "Page turners, they were not" ajshskhja
I know everyone's tired of sand references but when Dooku is hiding in an abandoned building during Labyrinth of Evil and overhears Obi-Wan and Anakin bantering, after Anakin says he hates sand Obi-Wan says "Well then sweep up" and no matter how many times I've reread that fucking book I always laugh.

Questions 5 and 19!
19. you're mad/ashamed/horrified you actually kind of like...
I am a creature of no shame but you know what, yeah, I temporarily WAS mad about one thing that I didn't think would float my boat at all.
Imagine me, January of last year, growing a bit desperate while grazing the AO3 Dooku & Obi-Wan tag. Ok, maybe checking out the Dooku/Obi-Wan tag won't hurt? So I looked and concluded that what I was seeing there wasn't for me. EXCEPT. EX-FUCKING-CEPT for two fucking one-shots that rewired my brain and did irreversible damage.
And you know what that means! Fic rec be upon ye
The Last Laugh (M, non-graphic) by @bluedaddysgirl / 500 words—short, hilarious and incredibly well-crafted with an amazing word economy. Dooku biting off more than he can chew with Hardeen!Obi. Big win for people who enjoy Obi-Wan being an asshole!
Three Days of Thawing (T) by @prahacat / 15k. Evil witchcraft which hath rotted my brain. Jaw-droppingly beautiful prose and introspection. Might be my favorite Dooku voice, period. Also big win for people who enjoy Obi-Wan being a (past) manipulative asshole! (READ IT) (I'M SO SERIOUS)

20 Questions For Writers
This was sitting on my notifs for a few days and i finally took the time to do it. Thank my darling @takadasaiko for the tag!! 💕💕
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
I have 88 works in total, 31 of which are for Star Wars.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
574,873 words.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Currently, I'm only writing for Star Wars. But I used to write for Arrow and Supergirl, and ASoIAF, Dark-Hunters and Chronicles of Nick are in standby. I'm waiting for right motivation to come back to any of the last 3.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
I'm only talking about Star Wars fics here...
Kadala (The Mandalorian) [and 4th place in most kudos of all my works]
Rough Awakening (The Bad Batch) [and 5th place in most kudos of all my works]
Welcome to Yavin IV (Rebels)
An Explosive Situation (Rebels)
Rescue on Ryloth (The Bad Batch)
And the the rest of my all-time fics with most kudos are
Take Your Breath Away (Arrow)
Undisclosed Desires (Arrow)
Made For You (ASoIaF/Game of Thrones)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try my best, but sometimes I forget, and then it's been weeks and months since I got the comments that I'm embarrassed to reply them after so long. Even though, I think it's important that a writer let the reader/commenter that they appreciate it, even if it's with a simple "thank you" or an emoji. I know I'm being a hypocrite here since I fail to do what I preach, but it doesn't make it less true.
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I think that would be Drifting, because it's kind of open ending, left to be interpreted, so it could end however the reader wants. Although, I left an author's note at the end saying what's my preferred ending, which always will be inclined to the happy side.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
High Above the Ground because is the happy ending i want for Commander Fox and Riyo Chuchi. They deserve only the best!
8. Do you get hate on your fic?
No, not really. I've gotten only 1 stupid message of someone criticizing a fic, but that was years ago when I still posted on FF dot net. The joke was on the reader because I moderated all the comments there so I just deleted it and nobody saw it but me. Honestly, I just laughed about it cuz their argument was just stupid.
9. Do you write smut?
I do, all kinds -from the most tame thing to the most perverted. But I used to wrote way more in my old fandoms, especially for Arrow. I think for Star Wars I've written just 1 or 2 smutty fics, and tamed at that.
10. Do you write crossovers?
I've tried a couple of occasions but never finished them. I'm not opposed to them obviously, but I do think the combination of fandoms has to be just right to work. Or at least, when it's me doing the writing.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yes! Many, many years ago in the first fandom I ever wrote for. It was awful and hated it! You see, this was in the stone age of the internet when fandom specific sites abounded and not everyone had an account on FFnet yet (and Ao3 was not even a dream). The site I published on was split in 2 sections because the ships war in the fandom was bloody and ruthless, so to avoid the slaughter, I kept myself in my preferred side. But one day, a friend who read fic on both sides told me that someone stole my fics. Avoiding to get caught, the person who did it published them under a pen name that was almost exact to mine, she only added a period at the end, which could easily go unnoticed. Oh, and she interchanged characters names so it'd fit the other ship.
At first, my friend thought I had posted them but she knew I'd never write for that ship, like ever. In the end, it turned out that I wasn't the only one who had being plagiarized. Several people ON BOTH SIDES were. Thankfully, the person was caught and banned, but we almost burned the site down because of the whole shitshow.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
By me, yes, several. All into Spanish (my mother tongue). By others, not that I know of.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
Yes! A couple of times for different fandoms, and I loved it. I hope I'll do it again. The thing is that you need to find the right partner for it, or it can be a nightmare.
14. What‘s your all-time favourite ship?
I don't appreciate this question, let me tell you. It's hard to choose. But I think I have to go with Olicity. I love them still (even if the show ending ruined it for me). Close second would be Braime (and I'm glad that there's still hope for them on the books, because as usual the show fucked them so but sooooo bad)
And as Star Wars specific, I don't think anyone will be surprised if I say it's Kalluzeb, right 🤣 They're my babies and I adore them!
15. What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Anything for Arrow or Supergirl. I sworn off those fandoms after their respectively awful endings.
No promises, but there's still hope for all if my unfinished works for Star Wars 😅
16. What’s your writing strengths?
Coming up with ideas. So, so many ideas. All the time and I want to write them all.
17. What’s your writing weaknesses?
Finishing writing the above-mentioned ideas. I tend to splay myself too much when I'm writing, and it takes me forever to get to the portion I really want to write (usually the idea that sparked the whole writing process) and I lose steam. That's why I have so many unfinished WIPs. I wish they'd write themselves.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
It's ok if used sparingly. A word here, a phrase over there is fine, but if a wall of dialogue that the reader needs to scroll down to the notes or click on a tooltip to find out the meaning it's the worst!!! A better solution for a writer that really needs/wants to have a whole conversation in another language for plot reasons or whatever, then all they need to do is to say once that the characters are talking in the other language and put the dialogue in the same language they've been writing the rest of the narrative and in italic.
The characters who don't speak the language won't understand what's being said, but the reader will and their reading will be more pleasant and fluid.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
An Argentinian show called Floricienta. A modern retelling of Cinderella.
20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?
I don't like this question either! All my fics are my babies! How do you want me to choose?!! There are so many I'm proud of. I guess I'll point the most recent one: Feed Me Poison, Fill me till I Drown I really like how this story is coming along. It's not done yet (what else is new? 😅) but what's coming is so so good!
Tagging (no pressure): @renee561 @thecoffeelorian @genericficerblog @airlockfailure @mistr3ssquickly @insertmeaningfulusername @fanfictasia
