Well here’s what I’ve been working on over Christmas! Newly built 4ft by 3ft grow out for my young Taiwanese Beauty Snake, Requiem. Drastic difference in behaviour from a snake who hid 80% of the time in a RUB to a confident, actively basking snake in here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Combined active basking spot lamp and ambient che for heating, T8 uv lighting. Will eventually be adding jungle dawn LEDS to support plants - I set up a drainage layer and bioactive substrate into the builds including double sealing the base with silicone and siliconed in pond liner to swap to a fully bioactive enclosure with real plants once I get the lighting installed.

do you have any thoughts on beauty rat snakes? they're one of my favorite species!
I just adore beauty ratsnakes! They're so spunky and gorgeous!
Beauty ratsnakes, Orthriophis taeniura, are, as their name would imply, some of the most downright beautiful snakes on the planet! I just love them. There are quite a few subspecies (they're found throughout south-southeastern Asia), but my absolute favorites are:
The Taiwanese beauty ratsnake!
Tumblr media
Cave-dwelling ratsnakes!
Tumblr media
And, of course, Vietnamese blue beauties!
Tumblr media
They're a stunning group of snakes. They're very much typical Old World ratsnakes, with a very feisty attitude to match! They make good pets for keepers at the intermediate level, because they never tame down quite as well as New World rats do and their care is a little tricky.
Awesome snakes!

Comparing fairy tales with their inspirations from legendary sagas produces a weird effect, because you can see where the stories have been simplified and the behavior of the protagonists sanitized.
The Goose Girl whose position was stolen by her handmaiden and was reduced to speaking to her beheaded horse Falada was a club-footed princess who originally agreed to switch places with her maid because she was self-conscious about her feet and feared her prince was short and ugly. She was also mother of Charlemagne.
The Goose Girl at the Well who was exiled for saying she loved her father like meat loves salt was a British queen who led an army to rescue her father who had been driven insane by her abusive sisters.
Sleeping Beauty, who was cursed to sleep for a hundred years, was a Valkyrie who masterminded the death of her prince when he was brainwashed into marrying another woman, and then threw herself onto his pyre so she could die with him.
The youngest brother of the Wild Swans, whose arm remained a swan wing because his sister ran out of thread to make the tunic that would break his curse, became a knight in a swan boat that avenged a noble maiden's honor and had children with her that would give rise to the royal line of Bouillon.
Cinderella was a successful courtesan and a self-made woman, who had no fairy god mother, but did have a fling with fable-teller Aesop as well as an epic rivalry with her sister-in-law, who happened to be one of the greatest poets of their age. Alternatively, she was a queen of Egypt to died before seeing her family enslaved by the mad Persian king Cambyses.
The mystical husbands of East of the Sun and West of the Moon, The Iron Stove, and the Feather of Finist the Falcon were originally the god Eros, and the Beauty that had to find her husband after losing him was his wife Psyche.
Often the animal husband takes the form of a snake. In certain myths among the indigenous Taiwanese, the animal husband is a snake and the ancestor of their people. In Baltic and Slavic stories, the snake husband is never accepted by his wife's family, who kill him through deceit. Meanwhile, a 9th century Chinese story makes the husband into a Yaksha, and the lovers are eventually parted because the wife cannot stay in the realm of the Yaksha.
Related to the animal husband theme, the Beast was a tragic man from Tenerife with hypertrichosis, and Beauty was a noblewoman who was married to him almost as a joke. Though they lived a long and happy life together, four of their seven children were stolen away and sent to live in foreign courts because they shared their father's condition.
The Girl Without Hands was a Mercian queen who ruled her nation with iron fists, and was involved in more than one assassination.
Maid Maleen's original name was Brangaine, the maid of Tristan and Iseult. In most variants of the tale, it is the guilty bride who substitutes her maid in the bridal procession to hide her loss of virginity that is the actual protagonist. When the prince questions her about the children she has born, she is forced to reveal the tokens that her lover left with her, and the prince realizes that he himself is the lover in question, and apologizes and proceeds with the wedding.
The speechless Little Mermaid's beloved prince was a Swedish duke, brother to the king, named Magnus Vasa. He was afflicted with psychotic episodes throughout his life, and had assistants assigned to look after him. He never married but had a longtime affair with a commoner woman who cared for him. During one of his episodes, he jumped into a moat, claiming to have seen a woman there. This became the basis for a class of ballads called Herr Magnus and the Mermaid, which describes how Magnus lost his heart and then his mind to the mermaid after initially rejecting her. This then became stories of the tragic mermaid's rejection and revenge.

I’ll Wait: Tzuyu x Reader
Request: Tzuyu helping a relatively new Taiwanese JYP trainee struggling with Korean, and her being proud when you debut (+fall in love.)
Tumblr media
When you moved from Taiwan to Korea it was a very hard switch for you. First of all the language barrier was undeniably the worst part. You didn’t understand anything anyone said to you. The only word you knew was no because you heard it so often from staff.
To avoid having to talk to people you stayed in the practice rooms as much as you could. You danced for hours on hours, never taking breaks for snacks no matter how loud your stomach growled.
You restarted your song and danced to it once again, your whole body feeling like it’d give out any second. At the end you noticed your phone was ringing from across the room. You checked and saw a message from a staff member.
You’re wanted upstairs. Please arrive now.
It amazed you how they had no problem sending you messages in Mandarin but had a problem when you spoke it. With quickness you hurriedly put all of your stuff in your bag, and fixed your messy hair before heading upstairs.
“Miss L/N please come in.” Your CEO asked you politely. You understood he called your name but nothing else. Thankfully he waved you inside, indicating you should sit down. He told you “we know you are having trouble getting accustomed to this new environment. We are assigning a mentor to you in order for you to improve your Korean as well as gain confidence here.” You picked up about three words but you nodded nonetheless.
You heard a small “hello” from the door behind you. When you turned around it was none other than Chou Tzuyu. She was so beautiful, you’d been to a Twice concert before but seeing her this close was like a dream.
She greeted you and said politely in Mandarin “have you eaten today?” You shook your head and she held her hand out so she could lead you out. You bowed and thanked your CEO before following her. She led you to a separate room and asked you what you wanted to eat. You let her decide since you aren’t really picky.
The second you two started talking you broke down into tears. Tzuyu isn’t the best with feelings but she didn’t hesitate to hug you. “What’s wrong?” She asked rubbing your back softly. You responded “I’ve been here for four months and I haven’t understood more than five words. Nobody can understand me when I try to speak Korean either. I just get yelled at and I don’t even know what to fix because I can’t understand.” You sobbed in her arms, shaking violently.
She held you tightly letting you let out everything you’ve been holding in for so long. She knew exactly how you felt. She’d been in Korea since she was around 13 and she was still improving her Korean at 20.
From that day on Tzuyu made it a point to visit you when she could. Twice was always extremely busy but she always made time for you. Her members swore she loved you more than she loved them. When her group had long breaks between promotions she was with you in practice rooms. Whether you two were dancing together or she was helping you practice Korean, she was always by your side.
It was now nine months since Tzuyu first met you, the small scared teenager who couldn’t speak one word of Korean. Now she watched you as you confidently danced to an advanced choreography you received the day before. She sat with a proud smile when you finished. Hugging you tightly she said “you did so well! I’m so proud of you. Let’s take a break.”
She led you upstairs to the roof of the JYP building. You checked if the coast was clear because Tzuyu wasn’t allowed to go places without staff due to recent security concerns. You walked around to make sure nobody was up there before waving her towards you.
You both looked out on the city, people below looked like ants. She pulled your hand and you looked at her “hmmmm?” She responded “I have to tell you something.” You nodded and she continued “I like you. as in, more than a friend way.”
You responded “yeah right. Don’t play like that Tzu.” When her facial expression didn’t change you realized she was being serious, she was actually confessing to you.
“Wait really?” You couldn’t believe that the girl you’ve had a celebrity crush on since you saw her on Sixteen actually liked you. Then the realization hit you, “we can’t be together, I’m still a trainee.”
Tzuyu snaked her arm around your waist and you leaned into her side. She softly responded “then i’ll wait.” You internally told yourself not to get your hopes up though. Tzuyu and you both knew it would be months if not years until you were able to debut.
*time skip of 8 months*
Today not only marks your 21st month as a member of JYP Entertainment, it also marks the day of your debut. The past eight months you pushed yourself to damn near the breaking point. You spent many nights in tears wanting to give up or walking awkwardly from sore muscles. But nevertheless you persevered which earned you a spot in JYP’s newest girl group.
You and Tzuyu weren’t able to talk very much due to Twice having a comeback, promotions, then world tour. Despite this she managed to text or call you at least twice a week. You still had feelings for her it was undeniable, but did she still have feelings for you? You weren’t sure.
“Y/N i’m nervous.” Your maknae paces back and forth around the room. You responded “it’s going to be fine just breathe. We’ll be there right by your side ok? You worked to hard for this to be scared.” You gave her the advice Tzuyu gave you the night before. The younger girl nodded and hugged you before running off to your oldest member.
“Wonder where I’ve heard that one before.” A familiar voice behind you spoke up. You whipped around seeing Tzuyu with a big smile. “Tzuyu!” You hugged her and asked “what’re you doing here? I though you all had a show tonight.” She responded “it got pushed to next month, they’re renovating the arena. But there’s no time to talk about that. You have to be on stage in a minute.” She pushed you lightly towards your members.
The debut stage went really well. You and your members were all in synch and nobody messed up. You were even complemented on your Korean skills for being so good.
When you got back to the dressing room you saw Tzuyu waiting for you. She immediately pulled you into her arms and praised you. “You did so well Y/N. I’m so proud of you!” She looked at you with heart eyes.
She wrapped her arms around your neck and slowly leaned in, placing a kiss on your lips. When she pulled away immediately your whole face turned red. You asked “you still like me?” She responded “I did.” Your face fell “Did?” She nodded and continued “until I fell in love with you. I love you Y/N...will you be my girlfriend?” You nodded a little too enthusiastically making her laugh. She hugged you closely and and said “I’ve been waiting so long for this. I love you Y/N.” You smiled against her “I love you too Tzuyu.”

#inktober2019 #inkdraw #ink #watercolor #inktober #corbiefu3 #Paiwan #taiwaneseindigenous #taiwanculture #snake #tattoo Day 10: Pattern. Chinese Moccasin/ Deinagkistrodon Acutus is a holly symbol in the culture of Paiwan (one of the Taiwanese indigenous peoples). Paiwan people use unique tattoos to represent their social status, it is a vanishing tradition in the modern age. The pattern I drew is referenced from Paiwan Tattooist Cudjuy Patjidres who dedicates to promoting this beautiful culture. (I am not an indigenous Taiwanese, please let me know if there is any offense I’ve made) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3cfQRkh9mN/?igshid=15p43x2a38avc

YG Treasure Box  - Episode 1 rant
If you bothered to backread my blog and just by looking at my URL, you would know that I have a Love-Hate relationship with YG Entertainment and by extension, the ghoul on the 7th floor that is Yang Hyun Suk.
That means that I have no problems pointing out the shitshow that’s YG post-2ne1 and while we’re in the middle of Big Bang’s enlistment period. However, I do have a problem with Kpop fans who DO NOT have a clue about the history of YG Music, Artists, or Company, who just like to shit on YG Entertainment for the sake of bigging up their favs. If you’re looking for a blog like that, this ain’t it sis.
That being said, here’s a detailed account of YG TREASURE BOX Episode 1 in my eyes.
EPISODE 1: Introduction to the MNET Evil Editor that YG Hired
First of all, a petition for YG to stop using GD songs for his survival. I know they slap but using them for shows is like a punch in the gut.
Exhibit A aka The only exhibit you need:
youtube
The episode started with a nice tour of what will soon be YG’s old HQ or The House that Big Bang built with the trainees’ hopes and dreams as the voiceover in the background but mostly Choi Hyunsuk because he’s talkative AF and he’s a true YG stan.
There’s a clip of YG employees entering YG building and my initial thought is Who among these bitches come to work to tell Hayi, CL, Dara or Suhyun that “Nope.. we don’t have plans for you at this moment.”
Then we move on to the casting meeting.. and let me tell you this. That snake Yang HyunSuk (gonna call him hereafter as YHS) already has his own picks, but he had to throw in a platoon of trainees to keep the show interesting because why? He feeds off our tears and fear, that’s why.
All meetings that were featured on this show could have been an email tbh (and we wonder why our favs take a whole year to debut.. YG’s too busy doing meetings) same as the one that Jennie was in.
Bang Yedam drew first blood as the first guy they introduced. He should have been a fixed member from the start, and should not have been part of the voting. His skill level is in the extremes compared to the new guys that were scouted to be eliminated AKA Team B. More on that later... but anyway, the coaches at YG did a really good job with Yedam in making sure that what he lost in range due to puberty, he gained ten folds in technique and style.
Here’s a math problem for ya: The show humble-bragged about how much they spent per trainee on Team A. It’s USD 100,000 per year. How much did they spend on Byounggon & Seunghun?
Next trainee to get his intro is Kim Junkyu. Like most YG elitist, I didn’t bother to watch Mixnine in full so I had no idea that he was made a sacrificial lamb on Mixnine. The sequence of him being so helpless, just going through the motion of training even if he clearly is at wit's end, is heartbreaking and very stressful. Then his therapy session was shown and it broke my heart. It honestly made me wonder if they had a therapist in Kim Jinwoo’s trainee days... because I see in Junkyu what I saw in Jinwoo during WIN, and look at Jinu now. Speaking of Jinwoo, YG said he’s looking at visuals on this show but sir... sir... when you have visual powerhouses such as T.O.P, Kim Jinwoo, Eun Jiwon (tbh.. you can all fight me..), the twins Yunhyeong and Chanu, the Kwon twins and more... you need to get your eyes checked.
Team B was introduced next and damn, they were so raw Gordon Ramsey had a heart attack.
youtube
Team B is the sacrificial lamb of this show/ They have visuals, rap and some vocals here and there but they were RAAAAW.. except for Jihoon, he’s like the war veteran that was recruited to train the privates.. that didn’t sound right.
I didn’t realize that it was Jihoon who was on the YG vs. JYP episode of Stray Kids. He was a cutie then.. he’s still a cutie now.
Ooooh, YG has a Taiwanese trainee and I was happy for this guy because he was just so happy to be there.
They showed how street casting is done.. if anyone approaches me with like that, I will scream. They also showed two trainees being let go to give way to Ha Yoonbin and Park Jihoon. I do not believe that it was a coincidence that they just added that two.. they had to make room. Showbiz, am I right? The old Team B’s looked scared when Yoonbin and Jihoon came but in all honesty, they are the two of the five who have greatly benefited from this show:
Park Jihoon - The comeback kid
Ha Yoonbin - The new kid on the block
Haruto - The VIP heir.. from Watanameh to Watanabae
Choi Hyun Suk - The one who got shitted on the most after Sunghun.
Kim Junkyu - Extreme makeover YG edition (in hair and in confidence)
Runner-up: Jeongwoo - He would have gotten in anyway because he sang really well and YG clearly likes him as he’s the reincarnation of the Still Alive Daesung (see what I did there) Again.. more on my lists later
Let’s move on to Treasure C aka YG’s next Team A aka YG version of NCT Dream tbh. They are damn talented and should not have been added as a whole team. YG should have just added the standouts. Kim Jong Seob of Kpop Star should have sat this one out as his voice is still in its cracking phase and let him stew and in his cocoon til he becomes a beautiful butterfly.
Team C is just so pure but when they perform, lawd.. I am just in awe. They are so talented.
The episode ended with YG shitting on all of his Korean trainees to introduce Team J on the next episode. Betch.
All in all, this episode should have been 10 minutes shorter if they cut out all the meetings, castings and honestly, trimmed down the list of trainees
If you have questions for me, send them through, if you have comments, violent reactions and opinions.. send them as well if you must.

Ganymede shed last night, and was very proud of her shed. Then I took it out and threw it away and she threw a 10 minute hissy fit throwing dirt around and uprooting one of her hides and essentially tossing it across the cage before finally taking a massive shit in her water bowl.

Origins of Mizuchi - Creator’s Inspiration

Tumblr media
Hello, Roxie here. The team is extremely pleased the alpha demo was released and overall well received by players. However, there is some confusion about the game’s setting that needs to be addressed from first impressions. It was somewhat explained on my very first post discussing character designs. Which you can find here: Mizuchi 白蛇心傳 Character Designs
If you would like to know “why” I made the decisions as I did, read on. I will bring up some backstory as to why Mizuchi was created as well. There’s also some spoilers if you haven’t played the demo.
Demo Here: https://aikasacolle.itch.io/mizuchi
You have been warned. Now please bear with me in the below ramble.
Tumblr media
Aikasa Collective is a team with a majority of us being of Asian descent. I’ll mention those that make up the general character design and setting. I am Vietnamese-American, Moonsta (Artist) is Taiwanese, and NatalieAO (Colorist) is from Hong Kong. We were all familiar with the Legend of the White Snake 白蛇傳 in our own way as it is that famous.
Character Design Set-Up
I hand over the character profile and country to Moon, advising her to do her own interpretation of the traditional design since it’s a “fantasy”. She did her own research and after a few drafts we settled on the lineart only. Natalie was found after the first artist could no longer commit. I gave her the same profile, and gave her free reign with colors and patterns. She gave multiple color combinations, some internal voting and voila, the characters were completed. I believe some of the designs are wonderful derivatives, but they are only tributes to their traditional outfit.
I will need to sidetrack a little bit now.
Why was Mizuchi  白蛇心傳 made?
As an avid yuri fan and a bi/pan woman, I really wanted to tell a yuri focused story. I wanted a “pretty” visual novel that had a gritty vibe in order to challenge myself writing things that made me uncomfortable. The story of the White Snake left a memorable impression on me when I was less than 10 years old. I remember going to a friend’s house, watching bits of it in Vietnamese dub (oh yes childhood). It was such a tragic story it affected me still as the image is seared in my memory. Reading up on it, I realized there has been many variations of the legend, but none with a yuri version ;D (that I’m aware of...). I’ve avoided watching any recent iterations of the legend to avoid being influenced as I’m encroaching on much different themes.
So... is there any resemblance to the original tale in Mizuchi?
There is a main character that helps the “snake woman,” they fall in love, and the monk character plays a role. The monk’s role has changed through iterations as well, evil jealous villain to man who must save the MC’s soul. In my case I wanted to make a very kind and responsible nun. Jinhai was influenced by the Buddhist nuns who lived in my bedroom once I left to college. (Long story). I’m sure my “former nun now traveler” being a love interest was a very atypical choice. Is the game religious? Not at all. I love folklores, and I wanted to combine them also within this story :D I’ll give you a rough idea.
1) Legend of White Snake (Viet dubs, yep...)
2) Secret - Small Asian Tale (Dad taught me this one first, Puns)
3) Secret - Not really a tale (But I’ll use them...)
4) Beauty and the Beast (Subconscious I swear)

Where is Mizuchi taking place?
“Ancient Asia fantasy land”. Linh is from the “south”, Jinhai from the “north”, and Ai from ... (you play you learn).
But the house looks Japanese!
Yes, I really think Japanese homes would be a culture shock to someone like Linh, it’s intentional. Tatami mats for example is not common in areas that have a high humidity levels. It’s much harder to maintain.
So where are they exactly?
You will find out in the main game. There is a (silly) explanation as to the house itself.
Why did you pick Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese stuff in your game?
Vietnamese - It’s what I wanted to see, but I’m still American so I’m sure I didn’t capture anything right. Even the dress isn’t quite right... on purpose of course. After all, I wore it for every Tết growing up. I played off the timelines a little bit just to make things stand out more, or a bit of symbolism as one may see later.
Chinese - I married into a chinese culture and learned the language. I even studied abroad too.
Japanese - This particular culture also has a large role with my in-laws, and I learned this language first during college. Languages play a role in this game.
No country is ever named in the story. I didn’t want to misrepresent any culture, so I thought providing deliberate differences from the source, it would be a more respectable gesture. I’ve also merged material from other cultures around the world within this story. Why? Well... I think it’s worth noting that some things (such as being stoned to death) still happens in real life somewhere, and that is a real type of fear that some people face. Visual novels have the ability to give you an opportunity to see things from someone else’s perspective. If you gain some level of empathy, worry, or understanding of what Linh and others may have gone through, that would be my greatest accomplishment with this game.
Tumblr media
Tell me about the game title. (Spoiler-ish below)
We considered before having the game made in multiple languages, including Japanese and Chinese. Skilled translators are VERY expensive. Roughly it’s 10 cents per word: 5 cents for translating, and 5 cents for making it sound good in that language. If I hit the wordcount I was hoping for, it would cost more than the entire game budget for just one language! (This is why bigger companies can afford this for their games). It’s also a lot of work to put it all together... so we decided against it at this time. We also originally wanted to translate the Chinese title 白蛇心傳, which is roughly “The White Snake Love Story.” But “snakes” carry a mixed meaning/stigma across different cultures. It’s also pretty long for a title. So a short Japanese name felt like a better fit considering what we wanted at the time, and it stuck. It worked for Inuyasha and Naruto haha.
You have Japanese text in the demo, why?
It plays a small role. We wanted English-reading players to be as confused as Linh was. If you do manage to understand the Japanese, it will only add to the mystery (not much is lost). Don’t worry, everyone will understand it one way or the other in the full story :D If the game was ever in Japanese, the text would have been in Chinese instead. It was suppose to be interchangeable either way.
I believe that is all I have left to share. Sorry again for the rambling! I hope you found some of it interesting at least... some details will be found in the full game and artbook commentary.
We are still running a Kickstarter campaign for Mizuchi to be made :D As you can tell, I put a “lot” of thought into everything about the game. I am confident with what I want to accomplish with the story, and have been fortunate to have very reliable and consistent teammates! I really want to share a lot of neat things with you, so I’d love your help and support for the game!
