#thanks pokémon masters for bringing me back to pokemon
Note
For the Pokemon ask do Exp. Share, Master Ball, and then whichever gen is your favorite and whichever type is your favorite!
Exp. Share: Your first Pokémon game & when you played it
Tumblr media
Ruby version for the gba (actually played on my DS lite tho). I did some math and iirc I was like 12/13 at the time. There's actually a funny anecdote about how I got into pokemon in the first place – I was at summer camp and there was this kid one or two years older than me who had brought his gameboy and spent every lunch break playing pokemon Ruby. He was kind of the “cool kid” so everyone naturally gravitated around him. One day me and a couple others went up to him and asked him if he could show us what he was playing. Fast forward two days later and I was pestering my parents for a pokemon game. One of the best decisions I've ever made, honestly asdfghjk
Hoenn still has a very special place in my heart for that very reason and some of my all-time favourite 'mons are from gen III!
Master ball: favourite legendary
Tumblr media
Ho-oh, Latias and Latios
I don't have much to say about Ho-oh, other than I've always really liked how it it looked and, since I was too young to play Gold when it came out, when I finally got my hands on HG I literally rushed it until I could finally get my hands on it.
Latias and Latios, on the other hand, I like both the design, their unique typing, and the lore around them (they're twins, how cute is that??). I think that, despite blue being my favourite colour, I like Latias a little bit more? But they're so similar that picking just one didn't feel right, so yeah.
Favourite pokemon of my favorite gen (gen III)
Tumblr media
Flygon
My boy. My son. Absolute peak design. Jokes aside, this is very much a case of "I don't know why I like this specific 'mon so much, but I do". I guess I just find its design very unique for a dragon type and very pleasant to look at, not to mention the fact that I've grown even more attached to it ever since having it on my main team last time I re-played B2W2, a couple years ago. It looks friendly and I want to be its friend :)
Favourite pokemon of my favourite type (flying)
You know, up until a few months ago I would have said fire was my favourite type without a doubt. But lately I just sort of realised that in terms of sheer numbers there are actually more flying type 'mons I like using than fire types, so flying it is! I narrowed it down to these three:
Tumblr media
Talonflame, Altaria, Wattrel
Using talonflame a lot is legit one of the few memories I have retained of my pokemon X playthrough (the other is a random shiny Sylveon I got from wonder trade that basically became my ace). The design is simple, but imo it works well for what it's trying to represent. Then again, I might be biased because I've always liked 'mons that are basically "what if this real-life animal had a cool elemental power?" 😂
Altaria is one of those nostalgic faves that bring me back to my early days as a pokemon fan. I vividly remember seeing the Altaria in Winona's team and being like "WHAT IS THAT I WANT THAT". Except it was my very first pokemon game, kid me had no concept of how evolution worked just yet and also had very limited access to the internet. I don't know how it dawned on me that I had to catch a Swablu and train it in order to get one, but I do know that I was ecstatic when I finally did!
Another new entry from SV, I was so excited to see this little guy leaked. I've seen a lot of people online complain that Wattrel is just some bird, which I guess it's true, but I happen to like just some bird. Plus, flying-electric is a very cool type combination that makes it and its evolution a lot of fun to battle with too. I went with Wattrel instead of Kilowattrel simply because, visually, I like the small guy a little bit more.
Thank you for the ask, this was lots of fun!

My ray of sunshine needs some rest
"My cute boyfriend, I am sorry... I catch a cold and I won't be able to go to visit you. Don't worry once I am fully recovered I will go to visit you! How does that sound?
- Ren 💖"
With that text, Kaede's soul left his body... a heavy boulder was crushing him and he was feeling anxious, some tears started to pour down his face...
"MY ARCEUS, W-WHAT IF SHE DIES?!? WHAT IF SHE ONLY SAYING THAT AND SHE ACTUALLY HAS A TERMINAL DISEASE?! WHAT IF SHE ACTUALLY NEEDS HELP!?! Smeargly!!!" The man started to uncontrollably sobbing, covering his face in despair "Smearglyyyyy come here!!" Hic...
The Pokémom arrived as soon as he heard his master, hugging him and comforting him patting his head to make him feel better
"Smeargly!!" Hic "I dont know what to do..." the man continue crying while more of his pokemon came closer to support him speaking to him to calm him down, Kaede cleaned his tears and looked at his partners "Ok... she is fine... but she needs me, i need to be brave! For Ren!!..." looking at his Sunflora he called for her "Sunsun bring me travel Bag! We are going to visit her!!"
As the time passed Renee was resting on her Bed, the fever got a little worse but she knew as long as she rested she will be fine. UNTIL! a knock on her door can be heard while a timid voice tried to make it is way.
*knock knock*
"my sunshine... are you there?... Smeargly are you sure this is the number? I know this is where she usually stay when she visits Johto"
A rustle can be heard when the door opened slowly "Kaede?... what are you doing here?" Before she could finish the man made his way inside the apartment, placing his things and searching for something on his bag. His Smeargle holding Ren hand to guide her back to the bed "Kaede!! If you stay you will catch my cold...I appreciate the visit but i don't want you to get sick!!" the man pulled what it seems a container with some home made soup and looked at her "Nonsense!! The great Kaede never fall sick! Now my dearest you shall rest and under my charge you will heal!" The pokémon looked at him with the most poker face a pokémon could make, if he could speak will definitly said "really?!?! Never?!?!" Ren apprecaited the gesture she giggle of how cute he could be sometimes with her.
She let herself rest, Kaede tucked her into the bed, placed a wet towel under her head and feed her the soup he made for her, it wasnt the best but it had the best intention. Ren feel content slowly falling asleep "thank you..." giving him a tender smile while finally letting herself be dragged by the world of dreams. Kaede smiled whispering a small "everything for you my dearest shine of light" patting her head he planted a small kiss on her lips and started drawing until she wakes up again.
After some time Ren heal and was like a new person! But now.... the one sick was Kaede resting on the bed of his studio on his pjs the man speaked with a drowzi gaze and his Furret at his side while he was petting it "My dearest sunshine come closer...." the man called for Ren she scold him "I told you, that you will get sick... i appreciate it but i just knew it!!" placing a wet towel over his forehead, the man coughing "it was worth it... i will give my life for you... but listen..." Ren sit next to him he hold her hand and as he speaks "my shunshine... my light of life.. Renee my dearest, as my last words..." cough cough Ren and smeargle just looked at each other moving their heads in negation "darling you are not going to die..." she knew how dramatic he can be sometimes specially when sick, the man interrupted opening his eyes "But what if now i do!!!" Ren just tucked him back to bed and told him "not under my watch now rest you doofus!"
Kaede did as Ren told him, he knew she was right... it was hard for him but he was happy that now she was back to normal, it was the only thing that mattered to him, seen his light of sunshine back at her brigthest self.
tadaaaaaa!! Fin💖
FBSOSBWOWBWOWNW

New Inktober for 2019!
Once again, I was asked to create a new list of art prompts for October this year! These creations from you guys are ALWAYS so amazing, so I’m excited to bring you a new list! I got so many suggestions from my friends! You can use #TSinktober if you’d like to share your creations!
Remember: Even if we’re on Day 31, and you wanna post art based off the Day 1 prompt, you DEFINITELY can! There is no lateness for posting art, because it’s all entirely for fun! Hope you enjoy!!
Day 1: In a twist from the past years’ Day 1 prompts, I want to see you take a traditional Halloween monster or character, and draw what they look like Sep. 30th, and then their traditional look when it’s October 1st!  Maybe they don’t get spoopy until October 1st haha.
Day 2: Turn fall weather into a character! Could be the human embodiment of Fall, or the spirit responsible for Fall occurring, or something else!
Day 3: Turn a famous painting into a spoopy Halloween version!
Day 4: Draw a classic still life of items belonging to your favorite character. Let us guess who the items belong to!
Day 5: Draw your best friend or yourself (or both) GOIN GHOST. Ya know, that good ole Danny Phantom transformation!
Day 6: A Pokémon hanging out with (or running from) the zombified version of itself
Day 7: Choose two months, personify them, then draw what their first date would look like
Day 8: Sanders Sides characters on their dream vacations!
Day 9: A business that a Halloween monster or character would thrive on if they ran it!
Day 10: Take any popular author, imagine if they were a superhero, and draw what their comic book cover would look like!
Day 11: Portray any Disney princess as the “monster/scary thing” from a horror movie such as The Conjuring, The Nun, etc., either depicting them in a scene from the movie or the poster for the movie!
Day 12: Take any two coffee flavors, like Pumpkin Spice and Peppermint, and draw a battle between them, Mortal Kombat style (brew-tality lol)
Day 13: Take any Avenger from the MCU, and reimagine them as a Pokemon Gym Master! What would their Pokemon team look like?
Day 14: Reimagine a Sanders Sides, Cartoon Therapy, or other original character from our content as a kind of humanoid piece of candy or sweet treat!
Day 15: I really enjoyed this prompt from last year, so this year, take any Disney Villain, and use them as the inspiration for a Met Gala outfit! NO DALMATIAN PUPPY FUR ALLOWED, ALL OF YOU CRUELLA FANS.
Day 16: Take any traditional Halloween monster/character or any horror movie villain and make… them… CUTE. Now whether that’s adorably cuddly cute or va-va-voom cute is completely up to you! - Erin
Day 17: Take your fave character or OC and reimagine Steampunk versions of them!
Day 18: Take your fave food and create a cartoon character based off of it! It can have its own style, be stylized after an existing cartoon, whatever you wish!
Day 19: Take a quote from a book, song, or movie that particularly inspired you, and make it the main centerpiece of this day’s piece of art! Wherever you’d want to take the art from there is up to you!
Day 20: Here’s a cool challenge for ya! You can draw any Halloween-themed picture you want, BUT It’s all in ONE pen stroke. You can’t take your drawing utensil off the paper!
Day 21: What if anyone else from Halloweentown, other than Jack Skellington, had discovered and fell in love with Christmastown? Would anyone else have tried to dress up as Santa? Would they hatch another plan entirely??
Day 22: Back due to demand, take your fave character(s) from two different animated tv shows/anime/movie and depict them in each other’s animation style! An animation swap, if you will!
Day 23: Ever watch a movie or show and wish it had ended a different way? This is your chance to correct the plots to conclude the way YOU wanted it concluded! Oh boy, this may end up getting controversial lol
Day 24: We all know traditional Halloween monsters... but create what you think the Halloween monsters of today or the FUTURE would be!!
Day 25: This one is purely selfish because I’m still so in love with the past creations. Take ANY character of your choice from ANY piece of media and draw them in the style of a Tim Burton illustration!
Day 26: Speaking of classics, gotta include this one cause it’s tradition! Draw your OTP in Halloween costumes that are designed to go together!!
Day 27: Take any dramatic scene from any scary or Halloween-y movie... and meme it.
Day 28: How to Train Your [Insert Monster/Demon/Halloween-y creature here]
Day 29: This one is SUPER open-ended, but I’m into that. Take any book, turn to the 13th page (so the book has to be at least 13 pages lol) and go to the 13th word on that page (if it’s an article like “a” or “the”, just go to the next adjacent noun/verb/adjective/adverb) and use it as the inspiration for a one-worded scary movie/book. Draw that poster or book cover!
Day 30: Slightly inspired by the eerie vibe one can sometimes get from Spinel (SU), Betty Boop cartoons, etc. take any character, Halloween-y creature or otherwise from any of your fave piece of media, and depict them in the classic rubberhose/ Max Fleischer-inspired art style!!
Day 31: HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Do you remember a specific Halloween that was especially memorable for you?? It might have been because of the friends you spent it with, or a memorable moment that happened, or because of a costume you were particularly fond of. Or maybe there were a series of Halloweens that were dear to you because of a tradition you did with your family (and maybe still do!). Depict that moment along with an explanation! If you just wanna write about it, that’s fine too!
As always, you guys have been absolutely blowing me away with your incredible creations!! I love this time of year and seeing what your talents produce!! Thank you for all the amazing works and have a WONDERFUL October!!!
Thank you to all my friends whose suggestions helped to make this list!

Pokemon Journeys Appreciation Post...
2020 is coming to an end, and has certainly been an eventful year. However it was not in a good way! But it was a good first year of Pokémon Journeys, so I want to give it some appreciation for helping me through these difficult times.
Tumblr media
Now how can I not start by giving some appreciation to our boys Ash and Goh and their Pokémon first. I love the dynamic these two have with each other. Ash's has got himself a pretty good Pokémon Journeys Team, and what better way to start it off by giving him some Pokémon fans have waited years for him to catch. And they all have such personality, I can't get enough of our Same as Ever Pikachu Huggable Dragonite, Mischievous Gengar, Cute Riolu-Stoic Lucario, and while we still haven't gotten much personality from Farfetch'd yet. I can't wait to see it grow and show more personality next year.
Though while I like Ash's Lucario, it seems to have taken away some much needed screentime from Ash's other Journeys Team, especially Farfetch'd. So I do hope that next year they give the rest of Ash's Journeys Team some equal attention and screentime instead of keeping them on the sidelines.
Tumblr media
And while Goh has already caught almost as many Pokémon as Ash did during his 23 year run in just 1 year. He doesn't have any fixed members aside from Cinderace and Sobble, so not a lot of them have shown much of their personalities. But I do hope we get some more episodes centering some of Goh's Pokémon like JN023 gave them some equal screentime and showed us their individual personalities.
But Cinderace has had different personality traits during it's evolutions, which of course reflects the phases of growing up. I loved Cute and Energetic Scorbunny, and I was shocked that it went to Emo Raboot in such a short time. But I grew to like Raboot's personally as well, cause it's rebellious phase was certainly related to a lot of us as well. Although I'll miss Emo Raboot, I'm glad that we got our Cheerful Fire Bunny back after it evolved into Cinderace. Not only that, it's a lot stronger than Scorbunny since it was able to last longer than Ash's Pikachu against Mewtwo.
And I'm happy that Goh's Sobble also accompanies Goh during his adventures instead of always staying at Cerise Park like Goh's other Pokémon. Besides, Sobble's such an adorable crybaby, and it formed such a cute sibling like bond with Cinderace. And if Goh's the one who catches Grookey, I hope that Cinderace and Sobble form a similar relationship with it as well.
Tumblr media
But the one Pokémon I would like give some thanks to is Ash's Dragonite. I will admit that I was like "meh" on Pokémon Journeys during the first 2 months, cause saying goodbye to the Sun and Moon Series was hard. Though I did truly love the first and second episodes, it was kinda hard to move on from the Sun and Moon Series. But just when it seemed that each episode would be just as predictable as the last, the episode where Ash caught the most adorable Dragonite certainly exceeded expectations. So much so that it was Trending on Twitter for a while. After that, it slowly but surely became easier for me to move on and enjoy new Pokémon Journeys episode each week. And now I'm looking forward to what each new episode brings to us and I'm enjoying each and every minute of it.
Tumblr media
While Team Rocket's goal will never change! I kinda have some mixed feelings about their New Rocket Vending Suprise Master. I do wish that they would've formed some bonds with the Pokemon the Vending Machine gives them, instead of just using them for battle. On the other hand, I do love the anticipation it always gives us every time it appears as we often don't know what Pokemon Jessie and James are going to get next, so I do like that about it.
But at least we know that this Villainous Idiots will never stop being such loveable goofballs. And Pokeani wouldn't be the same without these guys. I also hope that we get a little bit longer Research Fellows and Team Rocket Trio Truces next year as well than we got in JN040.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really don't have a lot of complaints about Ash and Goh's goals. Since they completely changed the formula for this series instead of going back to to the usual formula from Generations 1-6. I love that Ash's goal is handled in a different way! After all, Ash has finally won a Game Based Pokémon League in Sun and Moon. So what better way to compete in a completely different league that allows you battle trainers from all over the world while raising your ranks to make it to Master Class. This will be a real test of skill for Ash than any of the other leagues had to offer! The only question I have is if a battle against Ash and The World's Strongest Trainer Leon Top Alolan Father and Son Showdown?!
While Goh's goal of catching one of all kinds of Pokémon took some getting used to, since he doesn't often battle them or forming bonds with them before catching them. I just simply learned to get used to it overtime! Besides, his catching style is based off the Pokémon Go and Let's Go game mechanics. Also when you think about it, Goh is almost like the original version of Ash Ketchum. Who was originally planning to catch a lot of Pokémon (although that was just to try to be better than his rival Gary) until he decided it's better to form bonds with Pokémon than worry about how many he has. While I would be shocked if Goh manages to catch a Legendary Pokémon to keep and it seems a bit strange for a Main Character to catch a Legendary to keep after 23 years. But I love Pokeani so much, so whatever the animators decide, I'll just roll with it. While I do like Goh and wish him the best of luck, just hopefully they won't let him catch Nebby the Solgaleo, or the Lunala Gladion teamed up with.
Tumblr media
While Chloe is the First Pokegirl to start off as a recurring character in Pokémon Journeys. She went through some great character development during the first half of Pokémon Journeys. She went from a girl who was "meh" on Pokémon at first to a girl who becomes fascinated with them during her time with Yamper and some adventures with Ash and Goh. And now that she caught herself an Eevee with a similar dilemma as hers, I hope those tweets I saw on Twitter weren't kidding and she'll join Ash and Goh as a Research Fellow sometime next year. (Of course they may not be such reliable sources, so don't get your hopes up) So if she does, I hope she meets some of Ash's previous traveling companions amd recurring characters as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of which, my favorite part of Pokémon Journeys is all of the past characters that have made appearances in just the first year of Pokémon Journeys. It was great to see Lance and Chuck appear in the anime again after all these years, the battle between Ash and Korrina in JN025 was certainly awesome, as well Gurkinn introducing Goh to Mega Evolution, and the Mewtwo from the first movie making an appearance in the main series was not disappointing. Even though Diantha has only made a cameo appearance in JN026, I would like it if she makes a full appearance sometime as well. Perhaps as a Master Class trainer challenging Leon someday?!
But the best one of them all was the Alola Pokémon School Reunion in JN037! It was certainly heartwarming to see Ash reuniting with almost all of his former classmates and catch up with them, as well as reuniting with his Alola Mom and Dad and meeting his new Alolan Little Brother Lei. And although Lillie and her family are still searching for Mohn, I'm so happy that the Aether Siblings made an appearance in this episode as well. I really hope that we'll see even more Aether Siblings soon, and that we'll see them reunite with Mohn. I also really want Chloe to meet Ash's Classmates as well, and Team Rocket reunite with their Alolan Family the next Alola visit as well. I really hope that next year even more of Ash's Past Traveling Companions reappear in Pokémon Journeys as well as other recurring characters and Gym Leaders as well.
I have never seen a more difficult year like 2020, and I can't say whether things will get a little better or even worse in 2021. But Pokémon Journeys is certainly giving me something to look forward to each and every week, as well as the no. 1 reason to see this year through. And even during the unexpected hiatus, it was and is my becon of hope in these dark days cause they bring a lot of Heart, Humor, and Awesome Pokemon Battles as well. So I give this thank you to the Pokeani Community for being there for us during a year like this. And I'm looking forward to what kinds of adventures our Pokemon World Travelers and Team Rocket Trio bring in 2021!

Cyberpunk 2077 Pokemon AU : [V]irus
I wasn’t tagged but I had this AU in my drafts for so long that now that I’ve seen it turn I ain’t loosing my chance 👀, I’m allowing myself to use @vos-videmus free tag and to at @pinkydude for starting the trend, thank you very much ♡ !
Rome Kilgrave and the sloppiest team that ever walked. agsahdgsj I love each one of them like my own children.
Story and headcanons under read more. This AU destroyed me.
Trubbish:
They found each other at the time Rome was in his early teens, still living with his abusive uncle. He never really found out what happened to the Pokémon, but it seemed just as beaten and distrustful as he felt, abandoned in some dirty  backstreet of northern Watson next to Rome’s home. At first there wasn’t much he could do, as he certainly couldn’t bring it to the household, but he would feed it scraps, talk to it as he would hide from his uncle, and as time slowly went a trusted companionship developed. It was Trubbish that helped him find the courage to leave home, knowing he wouldn't do it alone, and they never leaved each other’s side since.
Curiously enough, Trubbish always refused to evolve. If it is because of the things that happened to him before it met Rome or because he got too used to being comfortably carried around by his human.
Salandit ♂️:
It was gifted to Rome by the Moxes, during the time he worked for them. It was both an investment, to help the new guy settle in, and a symbol to his welcome in the family. Being a male specimen, Salandit doesn’t evolve, similarly, eventually Rome leaves the Lizzie’s for new horizons; that being said, the Moxes will always be family for him, and that he and Salandit share is proof of that.
Klefki:
Rome stumbles upon Klefki more or less the same time he does Salandit. It’s the time in his late teen when Rome starts to earn his due in Night City, thanks to the Moxes’ support. He’s a thief, before all, a spy, a couple or eyes and ears that the gang can use without risking trouble with Maelstroms and Tygers. Rome is quick on his feet, young enough not to be easily scared or discouraged, but old enough to know better. Klefki seemed to be fascinated by the young boy and they’ve been partners in crime ever since.
Toxtricity:
Toxels were often around Rome’s new clique. He was brought into it by his input of the time, an edgerunner with a taste for music and Rome’s first contact with the real mercenary world. He had never much cared for music before, but those years are his real formation about what truly makes Night City’s heart beat. His connections take place –El Padre, Dino Dinovic, Regina–, but, more importantly, it’s at this time he really falls in love with NC. An Impish Toxel falls into his arms as he watches the Gloryhole Bandits bandits perform, and –fuck, the music is so bad, and he’s smiling, he’s powerful, he’s hungry, he wants it all.
Years later, he’s back from Atlanta – back to Night City, the city of Dreams. Toxtricity is the first Pokémon he ever had that evolved. He’s ready to start again. He won’t run this time.
Elgyem:
He always loved the Net. The rapid pulse of it in his temples –behind his eyes, like a living thing. He sold his soul for better cyberdecks, curious to extend his reach, to understand. It was a weird drug, once so mathematical, so precise, and yet so freeing. Nix guides him towards Bartmoss and his story, and, eventually, with his corpse, Rome finds more than he expected. Elgyem eyes him curiously, intelligent beyond words. Whatever it is he is looking for, it seems to find, because it never leaves Rome’s side since.
Obstagoon:
It’s Johnny’s. Johnny’s companion –the only real one, some could say. Faithful to a fault. Only Johnny’s determination to find it after all those years is as strong. It’s rabid, after all those years of determinate loneliness, almost driven crazy by the hope his master was going to come back. It’s Rome’s task to convince it to come with them; that –not only Johnny lives within him now– but that their quest is worth Obstagoon's company. Maybe, as he does so, he will start to believe in it himself.

More writing blogs... (╯✧ ∇ ✧)╯This request is for Pokémon swsh; could I get some hcs of Raihan getting a (quiet/composed) challenger with dragon type Pokémon? thanks!
absolutely, dear anon- feral dragon boy coming right up! i love this. this is also my first time writing for raihan, so i hope it’s to your liking!
- mod ren 🦇
edit: IF YOU ARE HERE, YOU SHOULD BE FOLLOWING @cosmicali-teaa AS THAT IS THE ACCOUNT THAT THIS AUTHOR IS NOW ACTIVE ON
Tumblr media
Raihan vs. Dragon Trainer Headcanons
Raihan getting challengers in general is a semi-uncommon event, as trainers must obviously be skilled enough to get past the other seven Gym Leaders beforehand.
So, of course he’s absolutely stoked to battle upon hearing there was a challenger coming his way.
But you’re somewhat of a unique challenger.
The Vault gym mission provided him a quick preview of your team, and he immediately came to respect the calm grace with which you battle- you’d practically wiped the floor with the gym trainers, despite their developed strategies!
Let alone the fact that you were using Dragon-types, a feat in itself.
After all, dragons are tough to raise- he knows this from experience. If he wasn’t eager to battle you before, he sure was now, seeing how easily you claimed the three victories.
“As expected from a fellow dragon master!” - A lighthearted comment aimed your way.
Defeating him would be a high hurdle, and he was gonna give you his all to ensure a proper thrashing. The true wrath of dragons was upon you!
Or was it?
Just how skilled were you?
Even under the roar of the stadium’s audience as the battle began, you still retained that calm composure he’d noticed in you before, your two leading Pokemon moving in coordinated unison without many words from you.
And wow, did you give him a run for his money. His wild battle-persona appeared heightened to its competitive fullest as his team clashed with your own at full power, the induced sandstorm whipping the air around the stadium.
There were a ‘few’ selfies to be taken amidst the action, too. Who wouldn’t, in his opinion, in one of the more outstanding battles he’s had?
To be quite frank, he’s pretty impressed with you- Dragons raised this well and commanded with such a calm demeanor had him entranced.
Your skill, if surpassing his own, reminded him of Leon; You seemed to have an effective counter for almost everything he threw at you…
As always, he aimed for victory (even more so in this particular matchup), and prided himself and his team on how close the battle was. Before he knew it, though…
He’d lost?
His Duraludon receding from its Gigantamaxed form sent him into something comparable to brief surprise as he swiftly called it back, the mentioned surprise evident for a split second.
Yet he was quick to brush it off.
After all, reflecting back on the pre-match battles, he wasn’t all that surprised you were able to bring forth max potential despite the difficulty of Dragon-types. He’d already seen that difficulty had been no problem for you.
Another quick selfie was taken in the face of defeat, and as the sandstorm subsided he was quick to offer you and your team of dragons his compliments.
Seeing your calm demeanor break into a proud and joyed smile somehow caused the loss to be less ‘stinging’ than it normally would’ve been.
After all, you and your team were amazing, and very deserving of the Dragon Badge, in his eyes. You were indeed worthy to eventually challenge the Champion.
You’re presented with a joking remark, “If you can’t take down the Champion, what hope is there for me?”
“It’s easy to see how you got this far.”
He took your hand in a handshake, a handshake that was firm in expression of his enjoyment. He wore a wide grin, before he found himself spontaneously asking for a picture with you. The battle was too good to not, he loved taking pictures with challengers, and his selfie habit and social media presence called for it.
With that, his Rotom Phone flew in front of the two of you, snapping another and final picture; a selfie with you that was Raihan’s final memorabilia for the battle.
In his own mind, he’d just been figuratively knocked from the podium of ‘dragon master’…
And maybe he’d just found another rival in you, too.
He’d be more than willing to battle you to reclaim the title.
In fact, he was determined to do just that.
If you’d be willing to battle him again sometime, of course.

TR James x reader
Your POV
My boyfriend James is gone again to "work". I am curious to what he does for a living. I guess I can't be suspicious of him, I never told him my last name or anything about my family.
My name is Y/N Ketchum, older sister of Ash Ketchum who wants to be a Pokémon master.
While he got his Pikachu as a partner who didn't like him at first, my partner liked me immediately, becoming overprotective. My starter Pokémon that I first received was a male Riolu. Along the way, Riolu evolved into Lucario. We ended up bumping into Korrina, a gym leader and we became friends. She was about to give me another Lucario with Lucarionite but she saw my Lucario and just gave me the mega stone. Of course, I had to get one for myself and then something to put them in. I ended up getting Lucario a bracelet like Korrina's Lucario, and I got a ring. Anyways, today I am going to investigate, okay spy on my boyfriend to see what he does. My Lucario is coming along also, like he always does. Like my little bro's Pikachu, Lucario also doesn't like his pokeball.
Time skip
I see James getting together with Jessie and Meowth. I never liked Jessie simply because she is always around my boyfriend. Meowth was alright but he has an attitude. Seeing them grabbing a net, I pull Lucario and myself closer into the bushes. They start to creep up behind a group of trainers and then they threw the net on top of their Pokémon, trapping them and stealing them. Gasping, I look closer at the trainers. Spotting a familiar hat, I narrow my eyes.
Squeezing Lucario's wrist, I point to the boy who I found out to be my brother, Ash. Coming to a realization that I should help, I step out of the bushes, Lucario at my side, ready to protect me if necessary. “James! What on earth do you think you're doing?!" I screech, running to my brother's side and pulling him into a hug, glaring at my boyfriend. Looking at James, I see him shocked. Ash seems surprised that I am here and that I know who James is, and this ugly blonde girl is glaring at me for hugging Ash. “Ash are you okay?! Do you need help getting Pikachu back?" I ask, gripping my brother closer. Blondie just glares at me harder and I glare back. It seems James has recovered in the amount of time it took me to reassure Ash. “Y/N! What are you doing here?! And why are you defending that twerp!" He screams. I rest my chin on Ash's shoulder and sigh, waiting for Ash to say for me. “She's my sister." He says plainly. James falls to the floor along with Jessie and Meowth in shock.
Blondie is no longer glaring at me so that's good, I still hate her though. “James! Leave him alone! All of you stop doing this. I understand now that this is your job that you've been leaving to, but stop." I calmly stare. James and his friends just look back, grab the net, and release the Pokémon, feeling ashamed. “James, I still love you, but leave. I need to talk and catch up with Ash." I command. They nod and James runs up to me, kisses me, and runs off.
“You have some explaining to do." Ash says, half glaring at me. “Sooooo hekindasortamightbemyboyfriendthatihabebeentalkingabout." I rush. Ash's eyes harden and he reaches for his pokeball. “Alright bro, battle me to release tension. Oh and make it a double battle with Blondie on your side. You two against me." I confidently state. Ash just nods and Blondie glares at me. “You know, we're going to beat you. Ash is really strong and will defeat you." She whines. I just glare. “Who do you think taught him?" I counter. Ash's other friend, I believe Clemont is his name, took his stance and began reffing. “You are each allowed 3 Pokémon!" Clemont announces. I nod and wait to see what Pokémon my opponents send. Ash sends out a Talonflame and Blondie, or Serena sends out a Braixen. I sigh and look at my pokeballs. Grabbing one, I kiss it before I throw it onto the field. The red and white capsule bursts open and a Pokémon appears. Feraligatr lands on the ground with a thud, dust flying up. When the dust clears, Ash and Serena look at my giant crocodilian Pokémon. Both of their jaws drop and their Pokémon shake in fear. I forgot to tell Ash that I have more Pokémon than just Lucario. Feraligatr smirks and looks at me, nodding. “Feraligatr! Quickly use surf to get both of them!" I scream. He nods and a giant wave floods the field. It hits the opposing Pokémon and with a super effective type advantage, they are barely standing. “This is just sad!" I snicker. Feraligatr snorts and grunts in agreement. That seems to have triggered Ash since be called out an attack. “Talonflame don't be intimidated! We can still win this. It's two against one. Use double team and then steel wing!" He commands. Talonflame then becomes many and they all dive at Feraligatr, wings shining. “Focus! Find the real one and grab it in your jaws. Don't let go!" I say. Ash and Serena just laugh. “There's too many, your pokemon won't be able to tell." They say sneakily. “Just watch." I growl. Feraligatr looks around before settling his eyes on one Talonflame. As it gets closer, he jumps up and grabs it in his mouth, locking his jaw. Serena panics and commands Braixen to use ember. “Feraligatr, just ignore the stupid fox and use hydro pump." I yawn.
I smile as I see Serena get mad. Feraligatr nods and releases a giant stream of water onto Talonflame who is still in his jaws. Feraligatr then releases the bird and it falls to the floor, swirls in its eyes. Feraligatr looks at me for another command.
I just point my finger at Braixen. Feraligatr nods and knocks it out with another hydro pump.
Ash and Serena call back their Pokémon.
Ash sends out Pikachu and Serena sends out a Pancham.
Despite the disadvantage, I keep Feraligatr in.
“Pikachu! Use thunderbolt!" Ash screams.
“Dodge it!" I try to call out but I am too late. Feraligatr got hit. He struggles to get up but manages to, only to be hit with electro ball and faint.
Returning Feraligatr, I grab a pokeball with a cat sticker. Kissing it, I throw it out. Out pops a pink flying cat, shocking everybody. “T-that's a Mew!" Serena stutters. “Yeah, obviously. What, are you blind or what? Have you never seen a legendary before? Oh wait, I forgot you have trash Pokémon." I retort. Serena turns red with anger and pouts. “Mew we have to make this quick, I want to bring out the big guns soon. Use rock slide on Pikachu!" I scream.
Mew unleashed a landslide of rocks onto Pikachu, type disadvantage hurting him and making him trapped under the rocks. “Alright! Good work! Now use dazzling gleam on the panda!" I command. Mew unleashed a beam of pink at Pancham, causing it to stagger back. “Again." I say, flicking my wrist. Mew complied and hits Pancham again. Pancham falls to the ground, fainted. Turning my attention back to Pikachu, I think. “Use confusion." I say. Pikachu gets hit and becomes confused. “Pikachu! Snap out of it and use thunderbolt!" Ash strains. Pikachu only hits himself with the thunderbolt, hurting it further. “Mew, lets finish this with brick break." I nod. Mew hits Pikachu and he faints as well. Ash sends out a Hawlucha and Serena sends out a Sylveon. I call back Mew and both of them look confused. Nodding to Lucario, he steps up to the field. “Lucario, lets start with using flash cannon on that Sylveon." I state. Lucario puts his paws out and a flash of light launches at the eeveelution. Sylveon cries out in pain and falls. “We need to wait longer, use psychic on Hawlucha." I say. Hawlucha is hit but isn't hurt that much. “Hawlucha! Use high jump kick!" Ash calls out. Hawlucha launches into the air and kicks Lucario in the face. Lucario growls and gets into his stance once more. Sylveon uses fairy wind but it doesn't do much. Karate chop!" Ash says. Lucario is hit once more in the head. He turns to me with that certain glint in his eyes. Holding my hand out, Lucario grabs his bracelet. “Lucario! Connect our souls and hearts. Make our bond greater together and mega evolve!" I scream out. Ash and Serena look shocked but excited to see Mega Lucario. “Lucario! Car!" He cries as he comes out in mega form. “Okay buddy, use psychic on Hawlucha and then throw him into Sylveon. Then use flash cannon!" I command, sweat dripping down my forehead. Lucario lifts Hawlucha into the air before yeeting him into Sylveon. He then holds out his palms as they both get hit with a enhanced flash cannon. Ash and Serena cry out for their Pokémon. When the light clears, they both have swirly eyes. Lucario returns back to normal and walks over to my side. “Thanks for that. But I have to go see my boo." I say over my shoulder as I walk away. I am suddenly pushed to the ground. I hear Lucario grunt. Looking up, I see Serena in Lucario's arms trapped. It seems that she was the one who pushed me. Her intense glare in her eyes makes it even more evident. “You know, I always wanted to know what happens if a human is hit by a Pokémon move. I wanted to test it but didn't have the right circumstances. However, you just volunteered. Lucario, hit this bimbo with a full power power-up punch." I screech. Lucario's paw glows orange before he punches Serena, causing her to fly a few yards away before hitting the ground and not getting up. I hear Ash sprint towards her as I just walk away. “Thanks bro for not caring about me!" I call. Time skip cuz idk what else to do. As the sun goes down, I am content cuddling in bed with my James, even if he is a thief, Ash and his friends deserve it. James is playing with my hair, calming me before sleep overtook my vision, my last image being my lovely boyfriend.

Do you think had Shudo stayed with TPC and lived long enough we would have seen a 3rd entry in the "Mewtwo Saga"? For me I see Mewtwo Returns as an interquel as opposed to a concluding entry to his existential narrative.
Hi Anon! Thank you for your question. It brings up some super interesting stuff!
To state the obvious, often in entertainment, sequels, spinoffs, etc., end up being made due to the popularity of an original IP, not necessarily because it was originally planned. I think Takeshi Shudo created Mewtwo Returns (2000) because there were many questions left in the original Mewtwo Strikes Back (1998) film to answer, but also because Mewtwo was (and is, as of this writing) an incredibly popular character in the Pokemon franchise.
After the events of MSB, Mewtwo still has an existential dilemma: he now knows that all living beings deserve to be alive, but as an artificial being, he doesn’t know how to live. He and his clones also fly off to who-knows-where, so there's plenty of fodder for another Mewtwo tale to tell. And so, two years after MSB, Pokemon came up with the special episode Mewtwo Returns that explains and completes these themes. In this way, I think MR wraps up what Takeshi Shudo intended for Mewtwo, and it’s telling that Pokemon didn’t touch the character even up until his death in 2010. Whether this was because Shudo had left TPC in 2002 or because the company had moved on to other stories, we can’t be sure.
That being said, I have no doubt that The Pokemon Company would’ve eventually tapped back into Mewtwo’s story, whether Shudo lived or not. Because they tried to. A 2019 interview at Anime Expo LA with Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution producer Hidenaga Katakami confirmed that Genesect and the Legend Awakened (2013) was originally intended to feature Movie 1 Mewtwo, but The Pokemon Company couldn’t get the rights to the character from Shudo’s estate.* Thus its Mewtwo was changed to a new Mewtwo character. Had Shudo been alive at the time, I think his version of a third installment to Mewtwo’s story would have been different. I won’t pretend to know what his ideas would’ve been, though there are plenty of scenarios I’d love to have seen Mewtwo featured in.
I’m curious what other people think another segment in the original “Mewtwo Saga” would look like. Personally, ever since I saw GatLA, I’ve wanted to see the two Mewtwo’s meet. So far in his story, Mewtwo of Kanto has had to learn what it’s like to be a unique individual, navigating the world alone and so much more powerful than those around him. I feel like an obvious next step in his personal growth is to learn how to have an equal--how to not be quite so unique, how to share power--and be at peace with it.
What would you like to see in a proper third installment of Mewtwo’s story?

Hello! I come requesting a partner or a team. I'm an INFJ and an Aquarius. I love listening to soft music, drawing, and writing. I have a very active imagination and I like playing DND. I have a hard time building connections with people sometimes, but other times, I can't help but want to be friends. I'm also very polite and loyal. I empathize with others pretty easily. I'm a huge fan of dragon types! Thanks again!
*** Please donate if you can, spread awareness, use your voice and/or platform, and look out for one another-it only takes a minute to reblog, retweet, post on your story or donate (again if you can donate).  ‘comprehensive thread of petitions and donation links’ ***
Don’t ever change who you are! Making friends is hard and really intimidating for everyone but I’m sure the people you are friends with are very, very lucky.
And I have the perfect partner for you! Let me introduce you to...
Tumblr media
Golett! I think Golett would be perfect for you because...
(1) Golett is a curious little creature and just wants to do everything with you. Anytime that Golett is doing something, it just wishes that you were beside it. Whenever you ask Golett to do a chore, it will finish and then go back to your side in the speed of light. You don’t even need to be doing anything and Golett will still be happy just sharing the silence with you. I hope you have a lot of space on your wall or fridge because whenever you are immersing yourself in art, Golett is too. You will have stacks of drawings from your friend just waiting to be proudly placed all over your home. Though it won’t know how to play, Golett enjoys watching you play DND as the boardgames reminds your pal of itself and a place it use to call home a thousands of years ago. To go the extra mile, I recommend incorporating aspects of your partner when playing DND!
(2) Golett’s Pokedex states that: “This Pokémon was created from clay. It received orders from its master many thousands of years ago, and it still follows those orders to this day.” whether or not it’s still following those orders, it is clear that Goletts loyalty is truly unrivalled. Once you two make a bond, Golett promises an eternal friendship and unconditional support. When someone is as empathetic as you are, days spent with people can be draining and tiring. With Golett in your life, you can freely speak your mind, rant and allow yourself to feel all the things that you are feeling without guilt as Golett is not much of a talker and just wants to hear you speak. This Pokemon will listen and channel everything you confided in it to be a better version of itself for you. Seeing how hard your pal tries for you and loves you will make you want to do better and be better in return. You two will constantly be transforming and growing together.
(3) The best thing about having Golett in your life is the unlimited amount of laughing fits you will have. Your pal is clumsy and so out of touch with modern day despite being alive for thousands of years. A day in the life of being Golett’s trainer is never the same as you’re constantly teaching Golett something new every single minute. But fear not, it will never be a boring time training and teaching your pal because Golett is full of eagerness and enthusiasm! The best thing about Golett’s curiosity is that when you bring Golett somewhere you’ve seen a billion times before (the grocery store for example) it always finds something to exclaim and get excited over. Your active imagination and Golett’s thirst for life makes you two an unstoppable pair! I feel like you guys would be great in Pokemon Contests or come up with the most creative ways of battling to win badges.
Other Pokemon considered: Cacnea, Mareep

Tumblr media
His flinching at your question was the only answer you needed from him.
“Team Plasma stole them, didn’t they?” He nods slowly and you sit down next to him, pulling him into a hug. Your hand moves to the back of his neck and he buries his face into your shoulder. His shoulders begin to shake, and for a little while you thought he was laughing. It was only when feel a warm liquid drip onto your shoulder that you realised he was crying. It was heartbreaking to witness and you wanted nothing more than to help him.
It was so strange to see him in this state. Lee Donghyuck, the infamous Champion of Castelia City’s underground Battle Arena, the playboy who could melt any girls’ heart, the boy who obliterated his opponents’ Pokémon without so much as batting an eyelid, crying his eyes out. He was vulnerable, upset, distraught. You felt a pain in your chest at the sound of his sobs, and you wanted nothing more to take his pain away. All of the competitiveness you felt against him dissipated as he cried, and those feelings were replaced with nothing but pure care and affection.
You knew he was inconsolable, especially in this state. It pained you more than anything to see him like this, and you just let him cry onto you. You didn’t say anything as he cried onto you. It was quiet, small sobs that shook his shoulders. Only after he calmed down a little while later did you try and ask him what happened.
“Who did they take, Donghyuck?” You ask him softly and he sniffles. His head moves from your shoulder and you get a good look at his face. His eyes are red and puffy from crying, his lips a pink colour. His nose was also tinted red and he kept on sniffling.
“Dragalge, Aegislash, Aerodactyl and Sceptile.” Your brows furrow.
“Where’s Blaziken?” He produces a Pokéball and presses the button in the centre. You gasp at the sight of Blaziken before you, and even Mimikyu expresses her shock by rushing into your room and bringing you a Full Restore. Blaziken was badly poisoned and appeared confused, too. Evident burns left the once proud red feathers that covered his body patchy and sparse. He kept faltering, losing its footing, looking like he was on the verge of collapsing. You grab the Full Restore that Mimikyu retrieved for you and use it on Blaziken. Thankfully, it does its job and the wounds on his body heal themselves. Donghyuck watches on and tackles his companion into a hug when he knows Blaziken’s alright.
What Donghyuck wasn’t expecting was for his partner to throw him off, an action that shocks your rival. He crashes into the sofa, a groan escaping him when his back hits the sofa. Blaziken turns on you, and you stand your ground, despite being absolutely terrified in the presence of the taller Pokémon. Your fear causes the Master Ball on the table to rattle furiously.
“Y/N! Look out!” Donghyuck calls out and you turn to see Blaziken lunge towards you. Everything happens in slow-motion after that. You see a flash of light as Mewtwo bursts out of its Pokéball to come to your aid. It stands in front of you protectively, concealing you from the intense gaze of Blaziken. Mewtwo had a height advantage over Blaziken and stared him down ferociously, to the point where Blaziken was no longer driven by fury. He let his head hang in submission, and you place a hand on Mewtwo’s shoulder. You could feel Mewtwo’s overwhelming power, something that makes you take a couple of steps back. Mewtwo carries on its stare-down with Blaziken until Donghyuck’s companion snaps out of his daze. When his eyes fall on his Trainer, he recoils another step.
“Ken?” Blaziken lets out a cry. You look from Blaziken to Mewtwo. Your Pokémon had no expression on its face, simply wearing that same mask of neutrality it always does. Blaziken’s cry hung in the air, carried by the deafening silence that followed it. Mewtwo carried on staring at him, making the smaller Pokémon quiver in fear.
“Mewtwo.” Your voice was commanding and firm. Your Pokémon turned to look at you and instantly its eyes softened. It came closer to you and moved behind you. You look back at Donghyuck and he once again launches himself at Blaziken, but this time he wasn’t thrown off.
“Thank you, Y/N.” You cup your elbow awkwardly, simply acknowledging his gratitude with a nod of your head.
“Least I could do. Besides, you’ve got to thank Mewtwo.” He chuckles nervously and scratches the back of his head.
“Could you do that? I-uh… Mewtwo kind of scares the shit out of me.” You find yourself chuckling at that. But a part of you was still confused as to why Blaziken acted out the way he did. You turn to face Mewtwo and it stretches its paw out. You take it and feel yourself being transported to a vision.
Instantly, you recognise the area that you’re in. A small alleyway not so far from your house. It was dimly lit by a flickering lamppost at the mouth of the alley. The early morning sun was blocked out by the concrete high-rise buildings. Your eyes travelled down to the end of the lane, heart seizing when you see Donghyuck and Blaziken cornered by a Volcarona, Seviper, Scolipede and their Trainers. The first one, Seviper’s owner, steps forward.
“You’re no match for us. Give us your Pokémon and we’ll let you go.” Donghyuck’s eyes darken. Anger was an unfamiliar accessory on his face, and the expression he wore made you tremble. The first of them chuckles, a sound that sends shivers down your spine. You tried to break out of Mewtwo’s grasp as you watched on, but you were kept still by the bond you two shared. You wriggled in its grip to no avail. You wanted to help Donghyuck, but all you could do was watch on helplessly like a deer in headlights.
“You’re just a kid. Give up already, you’re weak.” Donghyuck flinched, his cold exterior broken instantly by those two words. For as long as you'd known him, that was the one thing that hit a nerve whenever someone insulted him. Especially because he’d trained so damn hard to become one of the best trainers there ever was. The other two grunts frisked him and took four of his Pokéballs. Then, they took turns beating him up. They landed blow after blow, kicks and punches until he coughed up blood.
“Volcarona, use Flamethrower!”
You cried out, a sob that had been building in your throat escaping you. Hot tears etched their way into your skin. Blaziken stepped in the way of the fire, protecting his partner from the intense heat emanating from that alleyway. When the fire dies down, you see Blaziken in that same dazed state that he was in at your house. The three grunts leave, and the odour of singed feathers filled the air. Blaziken lost its footing and fell against the wall, breathing heavy and laboured. Donghyuck returns him to a Pokéball, eyes brimming with tears. You watch on as he tried to stand, falling again and again, clutching his stomach. He wiped the tears that fell from his eyes on the cuff of his jacket and leaned against the wall, mouth open in a silent scream.
Your eyes open, where you’re met with Mewtwo’s intense gaze. You break eye-contact and look over at Donghyuck, who is nursing his Blaziken. He looks over at you, a confused expression on his face at the tears brimming in your eyes.
“You were making these weird noises. It sounded like you were crying. What did Mewtwo show you?” He asks, curiosity evident in his voice. You were dumbfounded. Donghyuck had four of his most prized Pokémon ripped from him by Team Plasma and he was sat opposite you, wandering what Mewtwo had showed you. Before you could register what you were doing, you walked over to Donghyuck and pulled him into a tight hug. He stills, confused.
“Donghyuck, I’m so sorry.” Your eyes filled with tears, and you felt his arms wrap around your waist. He hisses lightly when your fingers brush against a cut on his cheekbone and you draw away immediately. He looks up at you, eyes filled with vulnerability. You tear your gaze away from him and pick up the first aid kit. You round the table and unzip the pouch, feeling Donghyuck’s eyes on you as you do so. You turn back to him with an alcohol wipe and carefully dab at his cheekbone. He hisses sharply and you mutter a quiet apology. You dab a little more this time and Donghyuck grabs your wrist. You immediately draw away from him, apologising over and over again. You didn’t want to hurt him, yet here you were. When you drew away, he softened and let go of your wrist.
“I’m so sorry, Y/N. I didn’t mean to. It just happened on impulse; I’m not used to people doing this for me.” You nod and go back to fussing over him, unwrapping plasters and carefully placing them over the cuts on his face. You dab at his lip to get rid of the blood there and only notice how close your faces are when you look up into his eyes. His gaze was calm, yet there was still something hidden underneath it.
“Hyuck…” You’re left breathless by him. His distinctive scent of vanilla and fabric softener wafted up your nostrils. It was intoxicating, left you craving more. You move your face so that your eyes are level with his and his eyes scan your face, taking in every detail. You feel your cheeks warm as his hand moves to cup your cheek. He moves in closer and closer, until his lips brush against yours. He’s about to completely close the distance between you, but you’re rudely interrupted by the siren-like ringing of your PokéGear. You spring away from him and run into your room to retrieve the device.
“Hello?” You walk back out of your room and Donghyuck looks over at you, expression now guarded. You couldn’t help but let a pang of guilt flood through you, wondering what could have happened if your PokéGear hadn’t gone off.
“Y/N? It’s Jeno,” The voice on the other line says. “Are you with Donghyuck right now?” Your brows furrow.
“Yeah, why? Is there something wrong?” You ask him.
“You know his Pokémon were taken today, right?” You bite your lip.
“Yeah, he came to mine and Renjun’s place looking pretty worse for wear. How did you know?” You ask him.
“His Pokémon are in such high demand, Y/N. The grunts that stole them must be incredibly proud of themselves. I know my father will be proud of them.” He spits out the last sentence, a bitter tone enveloping his voice. You glance over at Donghyuck, who simply keeps staring at you.
“Do you know what they’re doing with them?” You ask Jeno.
“They want to liberate all Pokémon from their trainers. By showing the world that they’ve re-captured higher demand Pokémon it means that more people give theirs up willingly.” Your fist clenches.
“What do you think are the chances of success if I snuck in and took them back?” Donghyuck’s expression morphs into one of surprise.
“By yourself? Next to none. With me? Pretty high. I can slip you and Donghyuck in, without much of a problem. You’ll just need to dress up as members of Team Plasma in order for me to be able to get you in. I’ll bring you and him some uniforms tonight and we can go through how we can get his Pokémon back. Sound like a plan?” You meet eyes with Donghyuck and feel a stone drop in the pit of your stomach at his expression. There was something missing from his eyes, something that you couldn’t quite place. His hair fell in his face, partially blocking his eyes from you.
“Y/N, are you still there?” Jeno’s voice cuts through your thoughts.
“Hm? Oh, yeah. Sorry. Are you gonna come over tonight?” You ask him and he simply gives a grunt.
“I’ll see you tonight, gorgeous.” The line cuts and you take the PokéGear away from your ear.
“That was Jeno. He said he’ll be able to sneak us into Team Plasma’s HQ to get your Pokémon back.” You move to sit next to him on the sofa and take his hand in yours. He avoids your gaze and you sigh. You pick up the cotton swab and dip it back in the alcohol. You carefully press it to the cut on his cheekbone and he hisses again. You mutter another ‘sorry’ as you carry on cleaning the wound. Donghyuck’s grip on the sofa’s armrest tightens. You take the rubbing alcohol away from his wound and carefully place butterfly stitches on the cut.
“I’m so sorry that it hurt so much, Donghyuck.” He simply nods.
“Thank you.”
“For what?”
“For taking me in. You could have just rejected me then and there, but you didn’t. And I have to thank you for that.” He carefully approaches you again and wraps his arms around your frame. You breathe in his scent and you’re instantly reminded of Littleroot. The vanilla scent of his skin sent memories of his house flickering in your mind and, for the first time since you both left Hoenn, you felt safe. You felt like you belonged together. Haechan pats your hair and his hand moves down your back, travelling further and further south until he reaches the small of it, just above the band of your shorts.
“Hyuck…” You draw your face away from his shoulder and he brings his lips to yours. It’s rougher than the first kiss, you can feel everything he feels for you in that kiss. His lips move against yours in sync, and all at once you feel both starved and full of air. You were hit with waves of passion, all directed at the boy you were kissing. Your hands weaved through his hair, and you feel his tongue pressing against your lips, asking for entrance. Lips still connected, you swing a leg over his hip and straddle him, arms draped over his shoulders.
Kissing Donghyuck was everything you wanted it to be and more. It was intoxicating. He was intoxicating. Every movement of your lips against his had you craving more and more.
“Y/N, I-oh fuck!” The sound of Renjun’s voice echoing through the apartment- as well as his Altaria’s ear-piercing screech- makes you and Donghyuck pull away from one another, and you feel your face burn. You carefully shift off of his lap and begin to clear away the bandages’ wrapping, avoiding Renjun’s questioning stare. You glance momentarily at Donghyuck before taking the rest of the rubbish and putting it in the bin in the kitchen. Without making eye contact with neither Renjun nor Donghyuck, you clear your throat a little and focus your gaze on the plant-pot that sits on the coffee table, ignoring the soreness of your lips as a result of Donghyuck’s kisses.
“Jeno’s coming over in a little while to help us plan how to get Hyuck’s Pokémon back.” You look up at Renjun, who still wears the same shell-shocked expression on his face.
“Renjun?” He opens and closes his mouth a couple of times, as if trying to formulate a sentence, but he just couldn’t. He looks from you to Donghyuck, back to you, hoping that you’d catch onto what he was trying to insinuate. You feel your cheeks heat up and you look at your bare feet, as if you’d been scolded by a teacher.
“So…” Donghyuck tails off, his words turning stale in the air. Seconds pass. Then minutes. Renjun clears his throat.
“I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting to see the two of you playing tonsil tennis on our sofa.” Donghyuck takes his bottom lip between his teeth and stands up. He holds out his hand to Renjun for the elder of the two to shake. Renjun takes his hand hesitantly, shaking it with the same hesitation.
“I’m Donghyuck.”
“I know,” Your flatmate replies curtly, evidently still shell-shocked at walking in on you and him.
“You are…?” Donghyuck trails off.
“Y/N’s roommate. Renjun.” The two of them part and the same awkward air descends on the three of you. Donghyuck scratches the back of his head and bites the inside of his cheek.
“Who’s Jeno, then?” Donghyuck asks, attempting to diffuse the tension that hung between the three of you. You look over at him.
“He’s the son of the head of team Plasma.” Donghyuck’s head whips up to face you and the look on his face tells you that he’s anything but enthralled about meeting Jeno, someone who belongs to the organisation that stole his beloved Pokémon. You walk over to him and place a hand on his. He looks down at your hands and then searches your face with a gaze that screams vulnerability. You interlink his fingers with yours and feel a warmth spread through your chest.
“Jeno hates the organisation that his father created as much as you, Hyuck. He’ll do anything to put a stop to what they’re doing and by helping you, he’s one step closer to doing just that.” The look on Donghyuck’s face told you he wasn’t exactly convinced. You squeeze his hand reassuringly and he looks down at your interlinked fingers.
“You can trust him. I promise you that, Hyuck.”
When the sun had set beneath the horizon and the lights from the buildings illuminated the city, your heart began to pound in excitement. You never thought that you’d break into Team Plasma’s building with the help of the creator’s son, and you were beyond excited to carry it out. There was, of course, a huge part of you that was terrified for your life and the safety of your prized Pokémon, especially Mewtwo. It had taken months for you to prove yourself worthy to the Pokémon and you weren’t going to give it up without fighting tooth and nail. You were practically bouncing off the walls by the time Jeno knocked on your door and Renjun opened it.
It had been a while since you had seen the son of Team Plasma’s head, and you were sure of one thing. That time had been immensely kind to him. Jeno’s once black hair was now bleach-blond and slicked back from his face. His facial structure had become more prominent, cheekbones sharp enough to cut yourself on. His lips were plush and pink, and you could feel your knees go weak when he looked you up and down, a smirk on his face.
“Well, if it isn’t the new Champion of the Castelia City Battle Arena.”
“There’s gotta be a shorter name for that, doesn’t there?” Renjun interjects, eliciting a small chuckle from the drop-dead gorgeous blond boy stood at your door. You move out of the way and Jeno strides in, taking you by the hand and pressing a soft, feather-like kiss to your knuckle. You had to admit, Jeno knew how to make a girl swoon. You turn to face Donghyuck and Renjun, taken aback by the irate expression on Donghyuck’s face. Jealousy marred his features, and he was staring at Jeno like he wanted to punch him in the face.
Jeno appeared to be oblivious to Donghyuck’s death stare as he smiled sweetly at the silver-haired boy, eyes forming half-crescents as he smiles. He sticks out his hand for Donghyuck to shake, the smile on his face still genuine.
“Don’t take it personally, ex-Champ. If anyone was going to be able to dethrone you, my money would have been on Y/N.” You can’t help but let your heart flutter at his compliment. Jeno wasn’t wrong. You had been training for a long, long time. Taking on each and every trainer you came across. You built up a reputation of being unbeatable, and that was what spurred you on to carry on being the strongest trainer there was.
“Anyway, I digress. You both want to break into Team Plasma’s headquarters. Am I right or am I right?” Donghyuck nods at Jeno and you could have sworn you heard Renjun’s jaw hit the floor.
“That’s a suicide mission. Y/N, your Pokémon will get taken too-”
“Renjun, I’ll be careful. If it means getting Hyuck his Pokémon back, it’s worth the risk.” You turn back to Jeno and he pulls out his phone. Up pops a hologram of the Team Plasma headquarters- a feat of technology that originated from the depths of Team Plasma’s lab.
“Before I came to yours I made sure to find out where Donghyuck’s Pokémon are being kept. Because they’re notably valuable they’ll be guarded by stronger Grunts in the basement of the castle. Y/N, I’ll come with you to retrieve Donghyuck’s Pokémon. Donghyuck, you and Renjun will be keeping watch for us in case-”
“What makes you think I’m coming?” Renjun cuts in. His Altaria emulates his tone of incredulity with its cry. You and Jeno simply exchange a glance.
“Renjun, you’re always complaining about how I never invite you on thrill-seeking adventures. You didn’t stop whining about the time I went into the Distortion World to catch Giratina. I hadn’t even met you then! Geez, for someone who complains so much about things like this, you sure as hell don't want to come along-”
“Alright!” He cuts you off. You smirk confidently and turn back to Jeno, for him to carry on talking.
“You went to the Distortion World?” He asks you and you roll your eyes.
“Giratina’s with my mum back in Littleroot. Is this really relevant?” The image of your mother taking care of one of the most feared Pokémon in the known world made Donghyuck chuckle a little. Jeno clears his throat and points to a room on the hologram.
“Y/N and I will go in here. The guards that supervise this room tend to be pretty strict with who they let in and out. You’ll find a Plasma Lieutenant’s uniform in the bag I brought. Our cover will be that you’ve been recruited with me as your superior and I’m giving you the tour of the facility. When we’re in, we’ll grab Donghyuck’s Pokémon and get the hell out of there.”
In theory, the plan seemed fairly simple. You gathered up the bag and walked into your room to change into the uniform Jeno had brought. When you’ve put it on and look at yourself in the mirror, it takes you all of your self control to not step out of the room and set Blacephalon onto Jeno for making you wear the ridiculous outfit. A grey spandex bodysuit and a gilet that reminded you of a life vest was what you had on your body.
When you walk back out, the visual of Jeno’s and Donghyuck’s jaws going slack wasn’t the one you had in mind. You were expecting them to laugh in your face, instead they were both staring at you with a primitive look in their eyes.
“We should go.” Neither Jeno nor Donghyuck moved an inch, and Renjun’s Altaria had to use Pluck to get the both of them to stop staring at you. The ride to Team Plasma’ headquarters was deafeningly silent, everyone was running through their own individual role in the plan. You had to admit, you were surprised when Donghyuck was so complacent with not being directly involved in getting his Pokémon back. It made everything easier, but you weren’t expecting him to stop you just as the four of you were about to enter the headquarters.
“Y/N. A word?” You turn back to Jeno and Renjun.
“We’ll wait inside,” Your best friend takes Jeno’s arm and leads him inside, leaving you alone with Donghyuck in the still night air. The silence that hung between you was tense as both you and he remembered the passionate kiss you two had shared.
“Y/N, I wanted to thank you for doing this.” You snap out of your thoughts. Donghyuck was scratching the back of his neck and looking at the floor. It was the first time in a while that you’d seen him nervous.
“You need to be careful around Jeno. I know Renjun told you that before, but I agree with him. He’s Team Plasma’s boss’ son. I don’t know how far we can trust him.” You interlink your fingers with Donghyuck’s and kiss his knuckles.
“We can trust him. I promise you.” You kiss his cheek.
“How about… after all this… we leave Castelia? Go and explore the world beyond Unova. I heard that Galar’s pretty nice. We don’t even have to worry about money, either. You and I both know we’re well supported until we’re ancient.” A small smile forms on his lips and he pulls you into a hug.
“We’ll get through this. And when we do, you’ll be telling me all about how in the world you managed to get into the Distortion World.” You laugh against his chest and look into his chocolate eyes. You press a quick kiss to his lips and pull him inside with Jeno and Renjun, giving his hand one last squeeze before you and Jeno disappear down a corridor.

don't need a rainbow here (my world is black and white)
Piers shouldn't be with these Rainbow Rocket weirdos.
*
There has been a terrible mistake.
One minute, Piers was celebrating his sister’s victory at the champion cup, and the next, he’s... He doesn’t know. There was a light, and he was falling, and —
and then he ended up here.
He sits up, rubbing his eyes. He doesn’t seem to be restrained, which is good. He’s not in a hospital, either, which is… probably good? Or it would be, if he had any idea what this place actually was.
It’s dark. There are red lights from the floor, the walls. It’s eerily quiet. Piers is reminded of one of the most boring clubs he’s ever been to — but at least this place smells alright. Small mercies.
“You’re awake.”
Oh, no.
Piers whips toward the voice, one hand going automatically to his belt for Obstagoon’s pokeball — but it’s not there. Of course. They must’ve taken his team while he was unconscious.
Well, if these bastards think he’ll be helpless without his Pokémon, they’re wrong. Piers may be scrawny and sick-looking, but he’s a dark-type specialist. He knows how to fight without brute force.
During this time, the other person in the room does not move to restrain him. In fact, all he does is give a quiet laugh.
Piers examines him. The other man is short, but he has an aura that fills the room. He’s wearing a suit with an R on the chest. He doesn’t seem like a corporate type — and Piers has seen more than his fair share of those — but rather like… a gang boss or something.
“Sorry if you were expecting a ransom,” Piers coughs out. “The league doesn’t care about the Spikemuth gym leader. They’ll tell you to keep me.”
But he’s not just the Spikemuth gym leader anymore, is he? He’s the champion’s brother. He knows Marnie would give anything to get him back safely.
“I must apologize. It seems we’ve started with a misunderstanding. You may call me Giovanni. And your name is…?”
Giovanni speaks with an accent similar to Kabu’s. Is he from one of the eastern regions? Stranger and stranger.
“...Piers.”
“Mr. Piers. I represent a coalition of certain people with… dark hearts, shall we say. We are working together for the time being. I believe you will fit in well with us.”
Piers blinks. What, is this an invitation to some interregional society of dark-type specialists? Which… would make a disturbing amount of sense with the kidnapping and all, but damn, what a stereotype.
“Yeah, mate, thanks but no thanks,” he says, standing up. “I don’t know how much ya heard from the news, but I can’t drop everything to join yer club. Nothing personal.”
Giovanni chuckles. “Come with me.”
Piers goes, partly because he’s curious, partly because it’s not like he can do anything else. He follows the man down a dark hallway, then through what seems to be a lobby, and then outside.
Outside is too hot. The sun is too bright. And the land… is not land.
It’s ocean, as far as the eye can see. In the distance, a flock of Wingull circle an island. Piers rubs his eyes, not quite believing what he’s seeing.
“As you may have noticed,” Giovanni says, “we are not in Galar at the moment.”
*
From there, Piers is more willing to listen. Giovanni gives him a tour, speaking vaguely about life in Kanto and the group’s current situation in Alola.
At the end, Piers is introduced to one young woman as something like his personal assistant.
“She speaks Galarian,” Giovanni explains. “Most of the other grunts don’t, so if you need something, come to her.”
She refuses to give him her name, making excuses about how the grunts weren’t supposed to use them, but she does allow him to call her J.
J’s alright. She reminds him of his gym trainers, in her earnestness and weirdness. She only comes when he calls for her. Otherwise, Piers is left to do as he pleases.
Right now he’s fine just staying in his room, occasionally going out to raid their kitchen or get fresh air.
At least his Pokemon are alright. Giovanni gives them back a few hours after showing Piers the ocean. Most of his team seems to notice no difference between this place and Spikemuth, but Obstagoon does. It’s simply not meant for such a warm climate.
Piers brings this up to J, and she agrees to set his room’s temperature to something more normal for Galar.
He trains. He sleeps. He keeps up his vocal exercises. It’s fine.
*
What Piers learns, over the course of a week, is this:
The multiverse exists, and he has traveled through it. Somehow, and nobody will explain how, Giovanni summoned Piers from the own world and has trapped him in this one.
In this world, Leon is still the champion. The date is a few years before Piers sent Marnie on her gym challenge, so it seems he has time traveled as well.
He’s not the only guest here, either. Around the building, there are others — but not dark-type specialists.
No, these people are gang leaders.
Piers sees them in passing, recognizing them and quickly making his escapes. There’s Ghetsis, the Unovan cult leader who attacked the league and came this close to destroying their government. There’s Archie and Maxie, the eco-terrorists who didn’t seem to understand that the earth needed both land and water. There’s Cyrus, who… Piers can’t even start with him.
Of course, just because these men were all would-be villains in his world, it didn’t mean they were the same in their home universes.
He asks J what their stories are.
“Oh. Uh, Maxie’s a real passionate sorta guy, even though he doesn’t look like it. He tried to summon this Pokémon in Hoenn, I don’t remember the name of it, wanted to use it to shrink the oceans, make more land.”
The rest of her stories pretty much follow what Piers read in the news, but for one key detail: back in their home universes, all the men had succeeded.
“You mean that guy Archie drowned the world? Nobody stopped him?”
“I’m sure Team Aqua survived?” J offers.
Piers stares in open-mouthed amazement. When he finds his words again, he asks, “And your boss doesn’t mind having these people here?”
“No? He likes them, I think? They all fit the same pattern, you know. Guy with vision leads a band of outlaws to fulfill his goal… and the second they do, Rainbow Rocket picks ‘em up and brings ‘em here. Isn’t that what happened with you?”
“What happened to me? I’m not like them—” But as soon as he says it, he has to reconsider. The description she’s given is so vague, it could very well apply to him. If wanting his sister to be champion counted as a vision, then he did, technically, have a vision. Team Yell was, technically, a band of outlaws.
He purses his lips, not liking the conclusion he’s drawn.
J says, hesitantly, “I don’t know what you did back home. Whatever it was, I won’t judge ya. After all, you gotta be here for a reason, right?”
*
Piers thinks about that as he steps into the kitchen at 11:30 that night. He can’t begin to guess why he would be in this world, but he at least knows what his goal is at the moment.
It’s stereotypically Galarian of him, he knows, crawling out of bed for a spot of tea. That’s fine; it’s not like there’s anyone around to see him.
Then the door opens.
“...Piers?”
Even with one word, there is no mistaking the voice.
Chairman Rose stands in the doorway, frozen as though in shock. He’s wearing one of those grey suits he likes so much, though the shirt is wrinkled and the tie missing. He’d probably fallen asleep at his desk.
He doesn’t look like he fits here, in a group of dangerous men. Piers has to admit that he himself matches the aesthetic of the place; Rose does not.
Rose says, “What did you do?”
Piers says, “Why don’t I make us tea an’ we can talk about it.”
The chairman seems to agree to that, even getting out the teacups while Piers boils the water. This never would have happened in his home world, and yet it’s the most familiar interaction he’s had since he arrived.
When they’re sitting at the kitchen table with their tea, Piers begins: “In my world, I’m the leader of a group called Team Yell. My sister Marnie is the champion.”
“Oh?”
“We didn’t cheat.” He’s defensive, he knows, but it’s not like he and Rose had a trusting relationship before all of this. “She won fair and square, on her own talents.”
“I wasn’t saying otherwise.”
“An’ what about you, then? What did you do that got you thrown here — besides being a billionaire, I mean.”
In Piers’ world, using that tone of voice on that word would make the chairman bristle. Here, Rose looks more mournful than offended.
“Who did your Marnie fight for the championship title?”
“Leon…? Why, is somebody else champion in your world?”
“His brother Hop is champion now, but he battled Leon for the title. Or... he would have. I was impatient. I moved too quickly.”
Rose shifts in his seat, pulling out a pokeball. No, not just any ball — a master ball. The Pokémon inside looks like none Piers has ever seen: almost wormlike, spiny, glowing with a dim red light.
“You asked what I did to deserve being here,” Rose murmurs. “I’ll tell you. I forced Leon to fight a Pokémon more powerful than anything Galar had ever seen. He died bringing it to me.”
...Arceus.
It takes Piers only a moment to process this information and then decide he doesn’t want to hear any more of it.
Rose looks like he’s about to start on one of his rambling speeches, so Piers quickly holds up a hand. “I don’t want to hear it. Let’s talk about somethin’ else.”
“Something else, as in…”
“Your first battle. Your latest charity project. Whatever.”
To his credit, Rose is skilled at conversation. He easily transitions to discussions of his university days, the music theory class he’d taken as an elective. It surprises Piers how much he knows… and yet he can’t say that the discussion isn’t interesting.
It’s the first time Piers has spoken to the league chairman without worrying about Spikemuth. It will not be the last.
*
Archie speaks just enough Galarian to make Piers feel like an idiot.
It’s not like he’s never thought about human influence on the environment — he lives in a smoke-filled city, after all — but to hear Archie talk of pollution and the Pokémon affected by it, Piers has to admit that awakening an ancient Pokémon isn’t the worst solution out there.
Archie doesn’t seem to know that Maxie is alive and well and in the castle. Piers doesn’t tell him.
*
One day J brings him a composition book and a small electric keyboard.
“Since you write music,” she says sheepishly. “Sorry I couldn’t get you a guitar or something. I went with the next best thing.”
She leaves him alone, and he writes down some lyrics for a new song.
It’s about a fictional lost romance, but the imagery is all about being trapped in paradise, about missing the gloom of his hometown.
Galar is going to love it. If he ever gets back, anyway.
He’d asked about his present universe counterpart once and received a tablet that was somehow connected to the internet. His other self is doing well, both as a gym leader and a musician. Piers thinks about reaching out, but in the end decides not to. He wouldn’t believe this story if someone tried telling it to him; his counterpart is likely no different.
Days pass.
*
Maxie speaks just enough Galarian to make Piers feel like an idiot.
It’s not like he’s never thought about land as a resource — Galar is technically an island, after all — but to hear Maxie speak of erosion and human life, Piers has to admit that the idea of awakening an ancient Pokémon could be reasonable.
Maxie doesn’t seem to know that Archie is here, too. Piers doesn’t tell him.
*
He runs into Cyrus one morning at breakfast.
Cyrus asks, “Are you the one I hear singing in Galarian?”
He looks dead inside as always, which, Piers thinks, is a mood.
“Tha’s me, yeah. M’ name’s Piers.”
“Your music is very… spirited,” Cyrus says.
“Thanks?”
“I would prefer not to hear it.”
“Ah.”
*
Piers spends a lot of time talking to Rose. It’s not what he would have expected or wanted, but Rose is the only other Galarian around.
Still, he’s isn’t bad company when the league isn’t involved. He’s fond of art and architecture and all those stereotypical rich people things, but he’s also well-versed in popular culture.
(“I didn’t take you for an Avengers fan.”
“Admittedly it was not something I sought out for myself. My son Bede—”
“Wait, you adopted Bede?”
“Of course. Didn’t my counterpart do the same?”)
That’s why, when his throat aches from practice and there’s nothing else to do, Piers goes looking for him.
Rose is in one of the conference rooms. He’s usually there; he’s said before that it’s comfortably familiar to him. It’s the man he’s talking to who grabs Piers’ attention, though.
Rose says, “Piers, allow me to introduce you to Lysandre. He is a friend in my world, and his counterpart is just as elegant and driven.”
Lysandre looks down at him, magnanimous and regal. It should make sense that he and Rose know each other. They’re rich philanthropists, captains of industry; even with their different regions, it makes sense they would know each other.
And yet.
Rose, for all his billionaire capitalist near-dystopian command of the region, did not come from money. At one point he was poor. At one point he worked in the mines, dirty work.
Lysandre is an aristocrat. Lysandre is one of those smarmy bastards who believes that a person’s value depends entirely on whether they’re productive. People like him say that Spikemuth is poor because they don’t try hard enough.
When Team Flare began their attempt at apocalypse, the power spots went wild. Piers spent the day helping in Hammerlocke and trying not to worry about little Marnie all alone in their flat.
It was only later that Piers learned something like the full story, from Galarian translations of Professor Sycamore’s explanations.
He didn’t like what he read.
“I’ve heard of you,” Piers says. “Yer the one who wanted to kill all the Pokemon, right?”
Rose frowns. “I assure you, no one loves Pokemon like Lysandre—”
“It had to be done,” Lysandre says.
His voice is deeper than Piers’ or Rose’s, and his words hang heavily in the air.
“Lysandre… what…”
“My apologies, Elijah. Where there is a scarce resource, there will be conflict. With conflict comes suffering. Pokemon are destined to be used by humans; the only way to prevent it was to remove them.” He sighs a world-weary sigh, then looks to Piers. “I cannot confirm if I was successful in my world, but that was my intention.”
Rose pales. “If you’ll excuse me, I have to — I must —”
He doesn’t finish the sentence. In a moment he’s rushing out the door, unsteady on his feet. Piers follows him. He finds him leaning against the wall, clutching his chest and sweating.
“Are you okay?” Shit, he’s not having a heart attack, is he?
“I'm fine. Physically,” Rose says. “It’s just — my Lysandre wouldn’t do that. He wouldn’t talk like that.”
“Mhm.”
“I hate this place,” Rose says. “I hate everyone in it — except you.”
“Mhm.”
*
Piers walks down the hall to find his path blocked by that man in the snuggie.
“Mr. Piers, was it?” Ghetsis asks. “A pleasure to meet you. My name is—”
“I know who you are. Not interested.”
“Come now, what harm could I possibly do to you here? You lose nothing by listening for a few minutes.”
“If you’re going to give me that ‘humans and Pokemon should be separated’ bull, save your breath. Galar watched your stunt at the league. We know you don’t even believe it yourself.”
He tries to force his way past, but Ghetsis remains firm. He’s like Lysandre, much taller than any normal person has any right to be. He stands unmoving, but the smile on his face grows bigger and more unnerving by the second.
(Piers misses Raihan.)
“Of course not,” Ghetsis says. “I wouldn’t insult your intelligence like that. After all, a dark-type specialist like yourself is no doubt familiar with strategy. Especially in your league.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
Ghetsis chuckles. “You say you’ve seen my ‘stunt,’ as it were. I’ve seen yours, too. The league lets your town rot on purpose, and the only salvation they offer is for you to leave it? I know I would be angry, were I in your position.”
Deep breaths. He’s a manipulator; don’t let him get to you.
“And your champion — I’ve never seen someone so undeserving of what they were given—”
It’s only after Piers throws the punch that he realizes Ghetsis probably meant Leon and not Marnie.
Well, it’s no problem either way; Piers’ fist hits him square in the nose, making a satisfying sound as it connects. It seems Ghetsis is frailer than he looks. He stumbles back with a groan, giving Piers the chance to walk past him.
“Don’t talk to me again,” he calls over his shoulder.
Ghetsis only glares.
*
One day Piers opens a door to find a gigantic black Jellicent-woman hybrid on the other side.
“Ah,” J says when he stops screaming long enough to tell her what happened. “I see you’ve met the Motherbeast.”
He doesn’t dare ask what the story behind that is.
*
It says something that the emergency lights here are blue.
J rushes to him, grabbing him by the arm and pulling him down the hall.
“What’s happening?”
“We’re moving from our shielded position to a VLFS. The structure is currently occupied, so it’s not as smooth as we’d like. But don’t worry about it, Giovanni has a plan.”
A plan. Isn’t that reassuring.
There are grunts running everywhere. Piers catches glimpses of people in white and gold — the current occupants? They’re fighting against the Rockets.
Piers should help them. He’s a gym leader, and gym leaders are supposed to help people, right? Innocent bystanders vs invading criminals. It should be an easy choice. Piers should turn around — right — now — and…
...and he doesn’t.
He goes back to his room like a child, pretending he doesn’t see what’s going on around him. Let this region’s champion handle it, if there is one.
By the end of the hour, the lights are back to red.
*
Rainbow Rocket’s occupation of Aether Paradise lasts for an hour before someone comes tearing through the grunts.
Piers considers going out to meet them, but he holds back. He doesn’t feel like getting into a fight.
Still, his curiosity grows. A few minutes in and he’s walking out.
In the main room, a man holds two grunts at arms’ length. He’s tall, somewhere between Ghetsis and Lysandre in height. He’s wearing a baggy hoodie with a skull design on the back. He’s not a suited corporate type at all.
Piers decides he likes him.
“‘Ey, you two.” He pokes both of the grunts on their backs, nudging them away. “I’ll take care of this guy, a’right? Now scram.”
The grunts obey.
The man doesn’t seem grateful, but that’s reasonable: he didn’t look like he needed rescuing, really. He circles Piers, cracking his knuckles.
“So you’re with these guys, are you? Where’d ya put the prez?”
“I don’t know what you’re talkin’ about.” He holds up a hand, trying to ward off a potential fistfight. “‘M here ‘cause I train dark types an’ someone thought that makes a bad guy. M’ name’s Piers.”
The man puts his hands in his pockets, circling Piers. There’s something dark in his eyes; Piers sees it in the mirror every day.
At last the man says, “I’m Guzma, the boss of Team Skull. I like your shoes.”
His shoes, with the skulls on the heels. Punk recognizes punk.
Piers wonders if they’ve met before. He could have sworn, sometime during his stay here, that he’s heard the name.
Maybe Guzma’s counterpart is running around the castle somewhere.
“Who’s the prez you mentioned?”
“The prez. You know, the lady who owns this place? Lusamine. Tall white lady, hair like a cocoon down to her ankles?”
The Motherbeast. Or her counterpart, more likely.
“Haven’t seen her, sorry.”
“Hmph.” Guzma stomps to the wall and slumps against it. “Well, at least our champion’s here. She’ll beat you all down before long.”
Their champion. Piers pictures a muscular woman in her mid-twenties, a white cape flowing behind her.
“There she is! Hey, Moon! You find that Giovanni yet?”
In rushes a girl — no, two girls — both younger than Marnie. The dark-haired one looks up at Guzma and shakes her head.
“There’s one more room, Mr. Guzma,” her blonde partner says.
“Then go for it. Me an’ Piers here’ll make sure nobody goes after ya.”
The girls rush off. Guzma follows them with his eyes, and when they’re out of sight, he slumps back again.
“They’re good kids, Moon and Lillie. Didn’t have the best home lives, but they’re still holdin’ on… you gotta admire that, right?”
*
Giovanni calls the whole thing off. Apparently the others in this Rainbow Rocket gang got sent back to their universes by this scientist working for Aether. That simultaneously encourages Piers and pisses him off, because if this was possible all this time, someone should’ve offered him a ride home.
Better late than never, he supposes.
Colress has him and Rose in the same room, “because your universes have a similar frequency, so I can send you both home at once.”
Rose nods. “So, Piers, it seems this is where we say goodbye.”
“Yeah.” A chuckle. “Can’t say I’m looking forward to fighting with you about power spots and stadiums again.”
A wry smile. “Well… I’d give a farewell speech, but I believe you wouldn’t care for it. So let me say this instead: I am thankful to have had you here.”
“You, too.”
“And if I may ask you a favor…” Rose takes Piers by the shoulder, pulling him close. He whispers in his ear: “If your Rose is anything like me, he does genuinely care for Leon. Tell him to act like it, while he has the chance.”
Piers’ face feels warm. His chest tightens, and he feels dizzy… and then he falls.
He falls, and he lands on his face, and Arceus is that Marnie’s voice.
“Where were you?” Her voice has that pitch she gets when she’s about to cry, and Piers hurries to hug her. They’re sitting in… Wyndon Stadium? There’s Marnie’s Liepard, and on the other side of the pitch, a kid in a challenger uniform and their Kommo-o.
“How long was I gone?”
“Six. Freaking. Months. I went looking for you! But nobody had any idea where you could’ve gone… Where were you?”
He pats her back. “I… got lost. It’s a long story. ‘M sorry for leaving you, Mar. I promise I’ll never do that to ya again.”

>Meet Silviana
>Meet Xander
The man was getting dangerously close. Silviana put up her hands to slap his away, but boK choY grabbed the stranger’s wrist with a vine.
“Ugh stupid overgrown weed,” he pulled against the vine, “Koffing take care of this.”
The Koffing floated over to the little Bulbasaur. From her spot on Silviana’s shoulder Junipur jumped up and tackled the Koffing, bringing it to the ground. boK choY let go of the man to help Junipur pin the Koffing to the ground.
The Team Rocket member, his hands now free, grabbed Silviana by her arms pulling her up off the ground, “You better get that mongrel of yours off my pokémon!” He hissed.
Silviana curled her lip up, “I thought you didn’t want weak pokémon on your team,” she replied just as strongly.
The man growled, “You little brat,” he said as he shook her, “Good thing you’re not a part of Team Rocket, I–” He stopped. A sly smile grew across his face.
Silviana stared at his disturbing smile. Something about it told Silviana that she didn’t want to be anywhere near this man. With a grunt she pulled up her legs and kicked him in the chest with all her might. Which wasn't enough.
“Stupid girl, that isn’t going to help your situation, you’re coming with me!”
“No!” Silviana struggled in his grasp as he put her under his arm. Silviana shook her entire body, she looked over to see Junipur and boK choY still struggling with the Koffing. She tried to reach around to her bag’s side pocket where her other pokémon were, but it was no use. She opened her mouth to scream.
“If you scream I’m going to gag you.”
Silviana didn’t care, as long as someone saw what was happening. She took a big breath and…
“Ow! God dang!”
The grunt dropped her as he collapsed to his knees. Silviana quickly crawled away, she whipped her bag around and pulled out everyone. Bright flashes of red let out a Beedrill, a Victrybell, and a Spearow. When she turned back to the grunt he was shaking off the Charmander he was hurting earlier.
“Stupid runt! I said… Leave!” He kicked the charmander off with his other foot, the little orange pokémon went rolling into the dirt.
“Distract him you guys!” Silviana pointed at the grunt and ran over to the Charmander, seeing that it was ok, she focused her anger back to the grunt.
The stranger was trying to slap away Riot and Steng.
“Trahp use your vines and drive him toward the bridge! Steng make sure he doesn’t run anywhere to the sides! Riot go find an Officer Jenny!” Once she saw that her pokémon were taking care of the Rocket grunt, she looked to Junipur and boK choY. Both of them had finally subdued the Koffing, “Good work you two! He’s running now so we better get him his weak pokémon back.”
Junipur nodded and boK choY released the Koffing, it took a second for it to regain its senses before floating off after its master. Silviana heard a small screech and looked to see a worried looking Zubat chasing after the Koffing.
Silviana smiled. She heard a small cry behind her, the Charmander was lying on the dirt, its tail held a small flame.
Oh no.
Grabbing her bag, she reached in and pulled out a potion spray bottle. She crouched down, Junipur joined her.
“Hey there,” she sprayed the little orange pokémon gently, “you’re going to be okay, I promise that we’re gonna get you healed up and cared for nicely.”
As she sprayed the pokémon’s body gently, its breathing became normal, the flame became larger, and it looked to Silviana with worried eyes.
“I’m not going to hurt you,” she cooed gently, reaching into her bag again she pulled out some snacks that her and Junipur shared earlier on their journey. She got a small handful and placed it on the ground close to the Charmander and she backed away, she picked up Junipur as she did with no struggle. The brown pokémon watched her gently but Silviana didn’t seem to notice as she kept her eyes on the Charmander.
The little orange pokémon looked at the food longingly. It got up and crawled to pick up a couple pieces, after sniffing the food it ate it.
boK choY came to sit by Silviana. Her other pokémon that chased off the Rocket grunt came back slowly. And as they joined the small girl around the Charmander the little orange pokémon looked to them with wide eyes.
“We’re not going to hurt you, we want to help you,” Silviana spoke softly, “I’m glad you like the food,” she pulled out a pokéball, “I could take you to see Nurse Joy if you want,” she placed the pokeball on the ground and rolled it over to the pokémon.
The Charmander sniffed it but looked at her again.
Silviana giggled, “You could also join us, it doesn’t matter if you’re small now, with a little training you are going to grow up super strong and I would love to be here to see it.”
The Charmander looked to all of the pokémon that surrounded the small girl. It lowered itself to touch the pokéball with one of its tiny arms. It was sucked in immediately with a red flash. The pokéball didn’t even shake, it just clicked in success of the new catch.
Silviana smiled brightly and released Junipur from her lap to pick up the pokéball. She immediately let out her new pokémon.
The little orange pokémon gave her a soft cry and smiled.
“Welcome to the team… Caliouse.”
Caliouse smiled.
◇◇◇
Silviana walked along the grassy path that led toward the end of Route 25, she managed to catch a Psyduck that had run into Junipur. They had an interesting little battle and the Psyduck took a lot of hits before Silviana managed to catch it. Amare, the Psyduck, now walked beside them.
Amare was a strong opponent to some of the other trainers that were on this route. She was very brave for standing up against the stronger opponents and Silviana cheered her on valiantly for it.
They continued along until a small house came up to them at the end of the road. As Silviana walked up to it, holding Amare in her hands, the building had a bright glow coming from inside. Curiosity got the better of her and as Silviana walked up the steps to knock on the door, she heard a crash within.
“No! Ugh! These dumb pokémon hands!”
Pokémon hands?
Silviana pushed open the door. There was a mess of papers on the floor and a big purple pokémon leaned up against a computer that was resting on a desk nearby. Silviana watched as the  Nidorino tried to press its large forepaws onto the computer keyboard.
“Hey there little fella, are you lost?” Silviana walked close to it.
The Nidorino turned around, “Oh thank goodness another person.”
Silviana stared at the Nidorino for a good minute. Then she screamed.
“OH MY GOD A TALKING POKEMON WHAT THE HECK!” She screamed.
“I’m not a pokémon I swear!” The Nidorino said.
“Liar! You are sitting right in front of me! And I’m understanding you! No wait… You’re understanding me!!!” Silviana was panicking, she put one hand on her head and checked her temperature.
No fever. So I’m not sick or hallucinating.
“Please miss! I’m a scientist! I tried to better understand pokémon by standing in their shoes and… well… It kinda got a little too literal.” He turned to a big machine at the back of his house. One of the chamber doors was open and Silviana could hear banging coming from the other chamber. A weird sound like a person making a pokémon noise was coming from it, it gave Silviana chills.
“Quick I think he’s trying to get out, we can’t have him loose! I have to get back into my body!” The Nidorino ran over to the open chamber, “Press the red button on my screen when I close this door!”
Silviana watched the Nidorino run into the open chamber and close it. She heard the sound of muffled talking but stayed where she was holding Amare.
Junipur, who had walked in beside her hopped onto the messy desk and walked across the keyboard.
“Junipur no!”
She was interrupted by a big flashing light from the weird machine in the back. It whirred and smoked after the flash and out of the other chamber door came a handsome man.
He had on a lab coat with nicer looking clothes underneath. His long brown hair swooped just below his eyebrows and his chin had a five o’clock shadow on hit. He put both hands out and stretched.
“Wow, you wouldn’t believe how uncomfortable that felt,” he chuckled.
Silviana just stared at the man.
He rubbed his neck with one hand, “I’m sorry you had to catch me like that, and thanks for clicking the button. I’m Bill.” He held out one hand.
Silviana put Amare back in her ball and shook Bill’s hand slowly.
“Now,” he looked around and approached his desk. He picked up a letter and went to hand it to Silviana, “I have some tickets for a cruise on the S.S. Anne, but my research is far too important. Besides, it’s the least I could do to say thank you.” He smiled at her.
Silviana just stared at the tickets, then at the man, then back at the tickets.
Bill sighed, “I can see that you’re still apprehensive about this,” he squatted down, he pinched his cheek and his arm different times, “I’m okay, and I’m very much real and back to normal. Go ahead,” he gestured with both hands to approach.
Silviana put a hand to his arm and gently pinched, Bill just smiled and chuckled. She put both her hands on his cheeks and pulled them apart.
“Ha ha! Ow! That huts,” he said with his lips and cheeks expanded.
Silviana let go with a faint chuckle, “Sorry. I just wanted to make sure. That was one of the craziest things… To see a talking pokémon right in front of me.”
“Yea, I can understand that,” he rubs the back of his neck again, “but those tickets are really for you. I wasn’t going to go anyway.” He hands the envelope to Silviana.
Silviana takes it with a big smile on her face, “Thank you Mr. Bill.”
“Ha ha, just Bill is fine,” he smiles and looks at Junipur, “and you better take good care of your pokémon there,” he stood up, “way back when, my grandfather created a neat system to hold pokémon in PCs, here,” he hands her a weird, almost lunchpail looking box, “here is a more advanced version, you can store all of the pokémon you get in here and certain ones will teleport back to that crazy Professor of yours for his research.”
Silviana took it but looked up at him confusedly, “How did you...?”
“Oh I know a thing or two about you adventurers,” he smiled and went to open the door, “and since you are one I believe you have another gym to conquer in the town you just came from.”
Silviana felt new determination in her heart, she picked up Junipur and walked out the door, “Thank you Bill!” She waved back to him.
Walking back to Cerulean she talked to Junipur who had moved to her shoulders, “You know, besides the fact that Bill was a pokémon when we first met him he was really cool.”

café hopping is a productive past time
In between battling Gym Leaders for their badges and training her team with that single minded focus she could apply to anything (languages, reading the tells of opponents, Pokémon battling, saving the goddamn world because no one else was doing anything-!), Nixie finds herself exploring the café scene of Galar.
The Battle Café is the largest chain, at least according to several articles on the best places to eat in the region, and she can see why it's so popular, even if the overabundance of sugary sweet and milk chocolate confections clashes with her preference of harsh sour and dark chocolate.
She still pops in, every once in a while, to battle the Café Master and see if there's anything on the menu other than a cup of black coffee that piques her interest (there never is).
She takes to exploring every town and city she winds up in, combing them from left to right and marking out cafés she likes the look of for further investigation. Sometimes her Pokémon join her, Drizzile especially develops a taste for café hopping, but most of the time she's alone. She debates dragging Hop along, always when they meet up and battle, but never asks, content to let him chase his dream of being Champion, of defeating his undefeatable older brother. She doesn't tell him she now shares that dream, at least slightly, even if it's for completely different reasons.
(In the end, this love of café hopping was the catalyst towards a friendship forming between her and him, the undefeatable Champion; an unstoppable force and an immovable object, but she'd never say that)
It's a pitstop, really. She'd had a craving for something just verging on the edge of sweet, but still with plenty of bite to it. Dark chocolate was her answer.
This café was the closest one she'd found that could properly satisfy it, along with her seemingly never ending craving for good coffee. The fact it isn't that far from the Budew Drop Inn is a bonus; she does have a Gym Challenge to beat in the morning after all.
Drizzile is out of his ball and sat across from her, content with his plate of Pecha Berry cheesecake. For a moment, Nixie marvels at his ability to eat anything, regardless of whether it was spicy or sweet, sour or bitter, in large quantities.
She takes a sip from her cup of coffee and considers her empty plate for a brief second, pondering the idea of getting something else, before she returns to people watching.
Most of the people that pass aren't taking part in the Gym Challenge, but the ones she does recognize, she knows by their hair colour.
She takes another sip.
There's someone with purple hair across the street, their back is turned towards her. Someone people seem to be moving around and glancing back at with respect and awe in their eyes, someone with purple hair and a black cap and an ostentatious red ca-
She blinks.
Oh.
Oh.
Her eyes aren't playing tricks on her. That is definitely Leon, looking slightly lost even without his (rather expressive, all things considered) face turned towards her.
She glances at her partner. He looks back at her, plate empty of his sweet treat. Her eyes flick to his Pokéball, placed in the middle of the table, for a fraction of a second. He nods, a barely there thing, and she presses the button to return him.
Nixie turns back to the man across the street. She wonders if, maybe, she should call out to him. He does look lost and she knows he has a terrible sense of direction, although everyone probably knows that, but there is the slight issue of them not really having much of a connection aside from Hop.
She doesn't have to decide, which is honestly a small blessing, because he turns around and spots her. His eyes widen for a moment before he smiles, a bright thing that blurs the line between real and performance.
He crosses the street with ease, thanks partially to the fact that crowds seem to part when he walks through, and also because the number of people on this particular street had been steadily dwindling as the sky darkened.
She doesn't try to stop her mouth from quirking up at the corners into a small smile. He had that air, she supposes, that could get people smiling and laughing with him.
"Nixie! How's it going?" He comes to a stop beside her table.
"Oh, you know. It's going. Training does tend to make time fly," her expression is amused and she knows it, tapping the top of Drizzile's Poké Ball with her pointer finger.
He laughs and nods in agreement, smile turning amused. "Dont push yourself, or your team, too hard."
Laughter, quiet and unexpected, leaves her in a small burst. Tilting her head to the side, she gives him a lopsided smile, a confident gleam in her eyes.
"This aint my first journey, ya know. I know my limits, know just how far to push them, and I'm learning my team's limits as well."
"Still... take care," Leon shakes his head at her, but his smile is a little more real, a little less fake.
"Will do, Champion," she gives him a two fingered salute and takes another sip of her coffee. "You can sit down if you want, you know."
"You don't have someone with you?" he raises an eyebrow, looking at the other plate.
"Drizzile has developed a taste for cheesecake," Nixie replies simply, "I let him join me sometimes. He gets food, I get company. You can sit."
"Yes, ma'am," his smile is definitely a teasing one now, and she shoots him a glare for calling her "ma'am", but he sits down.
They're quiet for a minute. Nixie takes another sip from her coffee that has long been cold by  this point and Leon looks at her like he's trying to figure something out. She wonders if he knows about Sinnoh and Kalos and what happened there, if he's trying to figure out whether it's something he can bring up.
'He probably could,' she thinks. She'll need to talk about it eventually. Sooner rather than later.
"So what's it like, travelling through Galar after Kalos?"
She recalls telling Hop that she'd lived in Kalos before moving to Galar, so she guesses he figured out which order she'd travelled through regions in from that.
Nixie ponders the question, pursing her lips and frowning slightly.
"Colder," she decides finally. "Reminds me of Sinnoh, even if it's slightly warmer here. Did ya know that roller skating is the big way to get around Kalos? Couldn't do that here."
Their conversation after revolves around him asking her questions about her previous journeys, giving no hint as to whether he'd figured out what she'd done whilst there, and her responding in kind, asking him about his own journey.
"What is this? Twenty questions?" her voice is amused, head tilted to the side, and she smiles.
"It could be," Leon shrugs, amusement clear in his voice, in his smile, in his eyes. "I'd like to get to know you outside of what Hop tells me."
Nixie blinks. Once, twice, three times. Okay then.
"Yeah, sure," she shrugs, taps the side of her empty cup. "Why not?"
"I'll go first. Favourite pokemon?"
"Oooh, tough call," there's a spark of amusement, of fondness, in her eyes as she talks, "I guess I'd have to say Florges. The one I travelled with during my Kalos journey was a character, but she could get the job done when it was needed. Couldn't resist stopping to garden whenever I passed flowers with her out of her Poké Ball."
"Is that your favourite type then? Fairy?" Leon hears the fondness in her voice and understands why Hop came to be close with her so quickly, if she cared about all her Pokémon like that.
"That's two questions you've asked me, you know. You're supposed to ask one" Nixie points out, smiling. "If you get to ask two questions, so do I."
"That's fair," he nods his head.
"But, to answer your question, no. Fairy types aren't my favourite, Water types are."
"I should've guessed," his voice is dry, but he's smiling. "After all, there did seem to be more Water types then any other in your lineup that day."
She pouts at him for a moment before shrugging.
"I guess I've never felt drawn to as many Pokémon of types like Fire as I have Water. Houndoom's really the only Fire type I've considered training, and he was a darling during Sinnoh, but aside from him? I have more want to train Fairy types."
She doesn't tell him why she uses Fairy types as an example instead of, say, Electric types. It's still a little too raw, especially with the dreams of Xerneas and the mushroom forest (Glimwood Tangle. She knows what it's called now, after one particular late night search of the internet. She doesn't know why she dreams of it, but she assumes it's Xerneas' doing)
"'Only Fire type'? You mean you've never thought about training a Charizard?" he's teasing her and she knows it, the mischievous look in his eyes clear to see.
"Well," she drawls out the word, resting her elbow on the table and leaning her chin on the palm of her hand, "seeing your Charizard and how well you work together did prompt some consideration of whether training one would be worthwhile."
"Did it now?"
"Mmm hmm," she hums, a mischievous look of her own in her eyes, "I might put more thought into it after I've finished the Gym Challenge but, for now, I have two questions of my own for you."
"I'll hold you to that," he winks at her and laughs. "Shoot."
"What is your favourite Pokémon type?"
"Using the same questions as me now?" he raises an eyebrow, "is that allowed?"
"You asked two questions instead of one, I'll ask a question you asked. Seems like a fair deal," Nixie points out, smirking at the man.
"...Alright," he concedes, "I don't really have one favourite type overall but, if pushed, I'd have to say Dragon."
"That checks out, what with your partner looking like a Dragon type."
He rolls his eyes at her, smiling all the while, and stands.
"It's been nice, talking to you, Nixie, but Champion duty calls. We'll continue our game later."
"I'd hate for you to be to late because you got lost and didn't have enough time to find your way," she replies dryly, but she smiles. "Thanks for the company, Leon."
She watches him go and muses, quietly, to herself that talking him had indeed made the time go by much quicker.
Better head back to the hotel, at any rate.
Things to do in the morning. Lots of things to do.

Have some Pokemon fun for the content creators server’s NNT AU day. Thanks @nerroart for collaborating on this with me and producing this amazing art here! It was so much fun working with you. Let’s do it again!
For @princessfroslass and @okamideimos - your enthusiasm for the NNT Pokemon AU is infectious.
The sun shone warm, golden rays heating their backs and the skin on their arms. It had rained overnight and the world smelled fresh, everything practically bursting with colour. The sky was bright blue and the cobbled streets shone a little as they wove through the legs of the buyers and merchants, laughing as they dodged the citizens of Liones. It was a nice day at the very peak of midsummer, and Howzer and Gilthunder felt happy to be alive.
A shadow fell over them and Howzer looked up, the grin sliding from his face as he saw the Magical Research Building. It was so huge, a towering structure that dominated the skyline. His father had said something about how you could tell who was in power from the height the buildings. First the guild headquarters had soared over the huts and cottages of Liones, then the churches had risen with enormous spires that dwarfed these buildings. Now it was the mage who scared almost everyone, her massive laboratory drawing the eyes of all who walked through the streets of the kingdom.
“I hear she does weird experiments in there.” Howzer puffed up his chest, pleased for once to have intelligence to share with Gilthunder. As the lowly son of a struggling blacksmith, Howzer did not often get to know the court gossip which his friend seemed to come across almost constantly. But the previous day he had been… borrowing a bun from the kitchens and had overheard the cook discussing the mage with the butler. “She even has demon artefacts,” he said with a whisper, glancing eagerly at Gilthunder to watch his reaction.
He found the other’s unimpressed look extremely disappointing. “Of course she does,” Gilthunder said with a shrug. “She’s the mage. Lady Merlin has to carry out research into everything. She even has a collection of Pokémon…”
“She does?” Howzer interrupted, incredulously. “Wow! I bet she has some real rare ones. Do you think she has a Mew, or a Yvetal, or…”
“How do you know so much about Pokémon all of a sudden?” Gilthunder stopped in his tracks and it took Howzer a few seconds to also draw to a halt. He turned a little nervously to see his friend looking at him with an unnerving interest, piercing blue eyes peering into his own.
He decided to tell the truth. “I… have a team of Pokémon,” Howzer admitted as his eyes dropped to the floor and he shuffled his feet on the stone path. “I’ve been collecting them for a few months now.”
“No way! So have I!”
Howzer looked back up at Gilthunder in surprise. A soft wind was blowing, bringing with it the scent of rosemary and thyme and ruffling his friend’s mop of magenta hair. The small boy continued, a gleeful grin on his face, “How about a match? I’ve got a new Pokémon I want to try out. Think you can take me on?”
Howzer swallowed hard. Truth be told he did not relish the prospect of a fight whatsoever. The fun of Pokémon was collecting and caring for them, finding the rare ones in the long, swishing grass and carefully catching them in red and white pokéballs. He did not enjoy seeing them fight. In fact, he only really used one of his partners, and that was so he could weaken the wild Pokémon he came across so that they could be caught more easily. But Gilthunder was looking at him so eagerly that Howzer felt he could not refuse.
“Um… sure. Why not?”
Gilthunder whooped for joy and grabbed Hozwer’s arm, pulling him towards the gate in the city walls, jabbering nineteen to the dozen as they sped through the streets. “I love how they change when they get stronger,” Gilthunder enthused. “I’ve been training my Helioptile for ages and I think it’s about to evolve! And you wouldn’t believe how cool my Dedenne is now. It just learned Volt Switch, which is such a great move! The one I’m going to show you today is just the best…” Howzer bit his lip, hard. Evidently his friend had been really training his Pokémon hard.
Eventually the boys slipped through the gate, giving a cheery wave to the Holy Knights as they passed. They made their way towards the neighbouring fields, the chirp of birdsong and the rustling and buzzing of insects growing louder as they moved away from the city. The animals were joyous, celebrating the good weather and the abundance of food, but Howzer could feel his heart growing heavier which each step they took. Gilthunder was practically skipping as their feet left stone for dirt, kicking up dust with their shoes as they neared the clearing where Pokémon fights took place.
Panic gripped Howzer’s chest. “Say, Gil?” he called to the boy who had hopped to the other end of the field and was detaching a pokéball from his belt. “I looks close to noon already. Maybe we should each fight with just one Pokémon, yeah? That way we can get back for lunch.”
“Awww!” Howzer hardly dared breathe. Gilthunder sounded pretty disappointed. “I wanted to show you all of my party,” the boy added with a bit of a pout. “But yeah, I guess you’re right. And I wanted to train with Sir Meliodas this afternoon. He told me yesterday he’s got a Rayquaza! I can’t wait to see it! Well, alright. Here we go. Mareep, I choose you!” As Gilthunder spoke, the pokéball in his hand opened a crack, red mist rising from the depths to pool and swirl round his legs. Howzer watched as the vapour started to take shape, forming an animal with four, stumpy legs, a fluffy body and two pointed ears. The sheep stood squarely on the ground, looking at Howzer with daggers for eyes, blue flashes of lightning cracking over its pelt.
With difficulty, Howzer took a pokéball from his own belt, his fingers fumbling with the clasp. Sweat beaded his hands, impeding his movements and he cursed under his breath as he nearly dropped his prize. He snuck another quick look at the Mareep standing opposite and could see from its aggressive stance that it meant business. His own Pokémon did not stand a chance.
“Farfetch’d, I choose you.” Once more red mist crept over the battlefield, crimson whorls swirling in the air. As his Pokémon materialised, shaking itself, chest puffed out with pride, Howzer heard a snort from the other side of the field. He looked up to see Gilthunder clutching his sides, face bright red as he attempted to stifle his laughter.
“What is that thing?” his friend cried as he broke out into fits of giggles. “What even… I mean… it’s carrying a leek! Is it telling us what to eat with it for dinner?”
Howzer felt his face flush red as the laughter continued, the blush pushing down into his neck. “Your Pokémon looks pretty stupid, too,” he muttered angrily as the laughter continued.
At once, Gilthunder’s face turned dark. “How could you?” he yelled as the Mareep’s fur sparked angrily. “This beauty,” he emphasised, his voice laced with hurt, “evolves into an Ampharos. An Ampharos, Howzer,” Gilthunder added as if he were talking to an imbecile. “It is one of the rarest and most powerful Pokémon in this part of the world. And this Mareep is going to show your bird what for! Why have you been bothering with that thing anyway?”
Howzer grit his teeth and did not respond. Farfetch’d was the most useful Pokémon he had. He had been overjoyed to find a TM, conveniently hiding in a log in the woods. The Technical Machine would teach a compatible partner to use False Swipe, the best move available for catching wild Pokémon. At the time, the only companion he had who could learn the technique was the Farfetch’d he had managed to trap down by the river. Once the duck had mastered this move, Howzer had used it and it only in every single fight, deploying False Swipe time after time. The move was perfect for catching as it ensured that he drained the health of the opposing Pokémon without causing them to fall into a faint. He had been so very pleased, his eye on the prize of completing his pokédex, but it was perhaps not the best strategy to prepare for trainer battles.
“Let’s go. Mareep, use Electo Ball!” Gilthunder smiled as huge spheres of light flew from the sheep. The fast, golden orbs raced over the field, the static charge causing the hairs to stand on the back of Hozwer’s neck. But he grinned broadly as Gilthunder yelled in surprise, biting back laughter as his friend’s head jerked left and right, searching in vain for the odd-looking duck.
But of course it was nowhere to be seen. A moment later, a feathered bomb fell from the sky, dropping like a heavy stone. The Farfetch’d hurtled through the air, aiming straight for Mareep’s head. Under his breath, Howzer had ordered it to use Fly, and it had immediately soared upwards, avoiding the sheep’s electric attack. As the duck’s palmate feet made contact, Mareep bleated in surprise, and it fell to the ground with a bump as its legs slipped from under it. Gilthunder practically roared, but then regained his composure as the sheep got hesitatingly back up onto its hooves.
“Are you okay?” Gilthunder asked softly, and his jaw set with determination as the sheep gave a defiant baa in return. “Great. Then use Thunderbolt.” At once, sheets of electricity rolled across the field, zapping the Farfetch’d before it could dodge. The duck gave an indignant quack as the lightning hit, and Howzer squeaked, wincing as he smelled burning feathers.
“Farfetch’d!” the duck croaked. It waddled back towards Howzer, its eyes seeming to glow red. It was livid, furious, beyond peeved. The wild Pokémon round Liones were not a high level and the battles the duck had experienced did not usually leave much of a mark. It was clearly not happy with the current arrangement, and Howzer could practically taste its anger on the air.
“It’s okay, I’ve got an idea,” Howzer whispered and, grudgingly, the duck moved closer towards him. As Howzer explained, it nodded its head, then turned to face the Mareep once more. “Use Double Team,” Howzer commanded and Farfetch’d quacked with joy as it duplicated itself. Soon there were dozens of birds on the field and Howzer felt his spirits rise. “Deal with that!” he yelled in triumph over the noise of the ducks, who were all quacking loudly as they swished their leeks back and forth. “You won’t find the real one.”
But Gilthunder did not look as if he had even broken a sweat. “We got this! Mareep, use Discharge!” Tens of little bolts shot from the Mareep’s fluffy coat, each one aiming for a different duck. As the rays hit their targets, one by one the bodies of the false birds flickered then faded to nothing. The Mareep was relentless, sending flash after flash towards each of the clones until there were only a few Farfetch’d scattered across the field. With a baa of triumph, the Mareep sent another handful of bolts over the terrain, one smashing into Howzer’s partner with an almighty crack. The duck screamed in pain, flapping its wings furiously and throwing its beak into the air and its leek unceremoniously onto the ground.
Howzer ran to his Farfetch’d at once. “I’m sorry,” he murmured as he tried to stroke the duck’s feathers. But his Pokémon was having none of it. With a huff, it tried to snap at Howzer’s fingers, before stomping towards its end of the battlefield, its tufted tail shaking from side to side as it moved. “Farfetch’d,” Howzer called desperately as his duck kept walking away, “come back! We have to finish this fight!” Howzer felt his heart sink as Farfetch’d ignored him, pointedly. He turned reluctantly back to Gilthunder, who stood with his back ramrod straight and his hand lightly resting on the Mareep at his side.
“The match is over,” Gilthunder gloated as he looked over at the duck, which had its back turned to the rest of them and was clearly in a black sulk. “You know what your problem is?” the boy continued to explain. “Your Pokémon is too powerful for you. It’s too high a level for a trainer who hasn’t beaten any gym masters. If you want it to listen to you, you need to earn its respect.”
“What do you know?” Howzer pressed his lips together, taking deep gulps of air to try and calm the sudden lump that rose in his throat. He loved Farfetch’d, really and truly. They had spent so many months together catching Pokémon, delving into tall grass and fishing in the river, and he had assumed the bird felt exactly the same. Now, he was faced with a painful alternate reality, one that he was totally unwilling to accept. “We’re still in. Both of us,” Howzer declared as he stared at Gilthunder with determined eyes.
Gilthunder hesitated, then took several paces across the field. “Howzer,” he said gently, “are you sure about this. It’s okay to give up, I promise I won’t make fun of you,” he added seriously.
“No! We’re still in. Farfetch’d use False Swipe,” Howzer yelled in the direction of the duck. The bird spun around, then stalked towards him and Howzer felt relief flood his senses and blood pound in his ears. His partner was going to listen to him after all.
Seeing the duck’s movement, Gilthunder exclaimed, “Use Confuse Ray,” as he ran back towards his Mareep. The sheep stood up on its hind legs and opened its mouth, just as the Farfetch’d sat in a heap on the ground, its leek lying on the floor beside it. “No stop!” Gilthunder screamed on seeing the bird’s disobedience, but his command came too late. A stream of purple shot from the sheep’s mouth, lighting up the surrounding grass with a mulberry haze as it headed straight towards Farfetch’d at a frightening pace.
Howzer acted without thought. Quick as a flash he dived between the pulse of power and the duck. The beam of light hit him square in the chest and Howzer staggered back, shaking his head as he tried to stay upright. The world was suddenly blurry and everything was wrong, the sky shining vermillion below him as he stumbled on magenta cloud.
“You’re not allowed to do that!” Howzer heard the voice through a bank of fog, and he strained to understand the meaning of the words. “You’re not allowed to take hits for your Pokémon!” the whiny voice continued, but Howzer found he did not care what it was saying. He stood up on shaky legs, tilting his head up to the sky as familiar objects floated down towards him.
“Cakes!” Howzer jumped up and down trying to catch the confections which dropped like rain through the sweet-smelling air. “There’s strawberry! My favourite,” Howzer said enthusiastically, his mouth watering as he spied piles of cream and fruit. Farfetch’d liked cream, too... This last thought brought Howzer back to himself a little. “You’re wrong about Farfetch’d,” he slurred through his daze. “It’s an amazing Pokémon and I love it and it’s the best partner ever so there!”
As Howzer stumbled over the ground, his tongue lolling slightly and his eyes glazed, the Farfetch’d heard his defiant words. Slowly, carefully, the bird got to its feet, dusting itself off and retrieving its leek, tucking the prized vegetable under its arm. It waddled towards its master, purpose in every step, until it was close enough to peck at the boy. Then it launched itself into the air, landing a hard hit on Howzer’s head with the green end of its leek.
Howzer groaned, cradling his head in his hands as the world righted itself. He felt dizzy, sick and shocked, as if he had been doused in cold water. A quack of “Farfetch’d!” brought him back to his senses. He looked down as his vision stabilised to see his partner standing before him, its beak apparently curved in a smile.
“You want to fight?” Howzer asked and the duck quacked in response, waving its leek in the air to show its agreement. Howzer looked over to Gilthunder, whose head was cocked to one side, and grinned to see his friend’s answering nod. “Okay then!” he exclaimed. “Then would you use False Swipe, please?” he asked the duck, which flapped its wings and rushed straight towards the Mareep.
The sheep gave a bleat as the duck’s blow landed, and it wobbled unsteadily on its feat for several seconds. When it had steadied itself, the sheep pawed at the dirt and sent out the energy of Thunderbolt in response to Gilthunder’s command.
“Dodge it!” Howzer yelled, and he felt his heart sing with joy as his Farfetch’d listened to him without demure. The bird rose into the air, weaving easily through the streaks of power as the lightning tried to catch it, effectively evading the Mareep’s attack. “You’re awesome!” Howzer called and the bird nodded in response, saluting the boy with its leek as it flew past its master, not even one feather out of place.
“Now hit it with Fury Attack,” Howzer commanded. Instantly the bird rounded on the sheep, smacking its leek over and over into the Mareep’s body. Of the five blows it landed, two hit with incredible force. “Critical hit!” Howzer yelled as the duck let forth a quack. The Mareep staggered, then fell, it’s legs sprawling under it as its eyes were replaced with swirls of black. The sheep was out cold, and unable to fight. Gilthunder murmured softly as his Pokémon returned to its ball. Against all the oods, Farfetch’d had won the match.
“You did really well, both of you.”
Howzer straightened up from where he had been kneeling so as to spray Farfetch’d with a hyper potion. Gilthunder held out his hand, a happy smile on his face, but Howzer hesitated. As if reading his mind, Gilthunder continued, “It doesn’t matter that you took the Confuse Ray, I think you won fair and square. And you’re right, Farfetch’d is amazing. I’m sorry I was rude. The match is yours.” Gilthunder stretched out his hand a bit more, and this time Howzer took it, the pair moving their arms up and down in celebration of their friendship.
“You were right too, I need to respect my Pokémon,” Howzer said as the boys walked back to the city, Farfetch’d marching along at their heels. “I’m going to train and battle and win them over.” The bird squarked at this and tapped Howzer’s leg with its leek, and the pair exchanged glances, understanding passing between them.
“Then come and battle Sir Meliodas with me,” Gilthunder urged excitedly. “We’ll get stronger together.” With a whoop, the two boys ran back to the city, Farfetch’d flying behind them as they chattered and laughed.

((a thought i had today
I'm absolutely coming back at some point. Probably around when swsh drops. Maybe sooner because i'd'e probably been back sooner already but i've been off my meds for like two or three weeks and i've felt aeful as a result icve gotten nothing done and haven't felt like talking to anybody like at all i've had maybe 10 conversations this past few weeks and they haven't all been full conversations
But anyway what to do with loch because i'm absolutely bringing him back
(and ghetsis and zossie's been kinda noisy lately too in my head ad i've got one or two new muses. . . .)
But like. I think it's been.two? Three years since i played loch consistently. Like i think he's fuckin 30 now i have to double check his age but.
Loch is a muse who was meant to grow over time and develop with the assistance and interaction of other muses. To a certain degree who loch becomes is meant tp be a reflection of who he spends time with and his influences--most of which have encouraged him to develop thoughts, feelings, interests, and curiosities of his own and do things he's interested in and wants to.
But with my having had been away so long he hasn't had the opportunity to do that.
Nd loch is kind of region locked to a degree--i can certainly create reasons why he'd be elsewhere(because when a new region is introduced there tends to be a shift to characters being in there or around there where the party's at) and so on. And i have ideas already. But what the fuck was he up to in this whole gap.
I don't know how much of his developments and things i remember. He's certainly eager to be out and about again and i remember lots of things, but at the same time I worry i'm not remembering much at all. And yeah he could have easily changed a lot in two~three years.
Part of me is thinking of the ways i could proceed. I always have a separate verse for the actual canon ending of team skull but usually stick to one where skull doesn't end or comes back together after a while. Whichever one people default to varies but i default to the latter.
We were given a canonical reason everyone in the world is in Pasio--one that can be used to ignore time boundaries even which is cool.
But what am i gonna do with my boy lol
I'm thinking that. . .he got back into pokemon daycare stuff. Because that's what he loves to do--cross-breeding and training and teaching and stuff. And with a new mechanic that i've heard is coming to swsh i kinda like the idea of him taking up behavioral training--being somebody who can change your Pokémon's nature basically. His passion is in variations and crossbreeds(and team skull) as usual but y'know gotta do something on the side for the bills and all.
And maybe use that as a 'going to Galar' excuse--maybe he got a breeding commission or something or he's just studying new breeds and variants since the pokemon league committee or whoever's finally allowing people to visit galar more freely(that's usually my reasoning for 'this is a "new" region and these are "newly discovered"--it's a league matter that deals with pokemon habitat conservation and stuff, trying to reduce invasive species and disease and smuggling and the like.) And he scrounged up enough cash to make a whole trip to Galar(Raehela--whose name I may rescript as Lahela but ultimately her name remains a sort of Hawaiian variant of 'Rachel'--ofc is pissy because 'why spend web could just fly/teleport myself???') and now he's there
But. Idk. Ofc that says nothing of the usual 'team skull still exists' verse but that just becomes a matter of 'we're here for team skull reasons' or 'master guzma/big sister went so i'm going too' or whatever and is a bit easier to work over. . . .
Oh i'm really kinda eager to be back but. It'll happen when it happens. For now thank you for your patience and continued interest! (Because i still get new followers and i'm just like thank lmao)
But! Yeah!! Just know that!!! You are all in my thoughts and what i'm gonna do when i get back is in my thoughts and things are still shitty on my end but!!!!!! I still wanna be here!!!!!! So you'll see me back someday!!!!
In the meantime i'm still in otome game hell lol. . . .
