Doesn't matter what kind of style and form of art you practice, you have a fan

What is of importance though is Malleus strolling down the path down to Ramshackle and seeing you sit on the stairs with paper and other drawing utensils

Completely normal. Peaceful even. Maybe a bit too peaceful

You see, if you hadn't been too absorbed into rubbing colored pigments into dead wood then you would have seen the tall black wall approaching you

A shadow falls over your shoulder and you scream

Is that... him? Why is the Overseer draw-oh

Malleus is metaphorically (more or less. Meh, he is probably this close to doing it also literally) frothing from his mouth after seeing himself in more than just one paper after the small stack stabilizing the paper you drew on slipped from your hands

Forgetting his manners he rips the paper from the ground, staring with eyes wide as plates onto the thinly pressed wood (granny is somewhere shaking her head)

Why would the Overseer, watcher over worlds, almighty ruler of everything, a god, draw him?

Coughing nervously you explained that you just are interested in are and liked to draw him

Later when he is back in Diasomnia Lilia is greeted with the sight of a tail-wagging Malleus (yes Malleus has a tail and I have no idea how he hides it)

“Lilia, the Overseer likes to draw me.”-moments before calamity struck and Malleus accidentally lit the dorm aflame from sheer joy

But... perhaps you shouldn't draw anyone else

Who knows? Maybe that person disappears for a while and just to be found in a deep coma (don't do it)

After all, he is quite old and we don't know what his poor heart can still take

In Lilias mind however he is planning how to burn that one portrait of himself in the Draconia castle and replace it with your art

Or so he thought until he looked what else you drew

For goodness sake, someone call an ambulance! I think he is about to pass out!

If the situation wasn't already awkward enough for you (and euphoric for him) Lilia suddenly kneels down, saying something about being honored and him swearing to be forever loyal to you

Oh sweet summer child, how easily you told him “Oh thanks...” If only you knew what would follow...

You see, Lilia might have had seen a few too many heads being severed from their bodies but, oh well, all those students were a teeny tiny bit too close to you for his comfort

Suddenly there is an increase in missing students who get found in... uh... “not compatible with life” conditions

See? It's dangerous outside! Let him watch over you!

codywan reverse bang team #13: i should tell him i love him

The words fell away as Obi-Wan raised his head. He had been expecting another visit from Cetius only to find his Commander standing in the doorway. He blinked a few times, fearing he was merely hallucinating. “Cody?” “General.” The Commander stared for a moment, trying to think of what to say. I’m glad I found you in time. I’m glad you’re alive. I missed you. I was worried about you. I think I love you. “Did you need a rescue?” “Do you know, Commander?” Obi-Wan tried for a smile and a laugh that turned into a groan as his broken ribs made themselves known. “I just think I might.”

So, I'm unfortunately late (life and death happened) but here is 2/3 of my piece for CWRB '23! Obi-Wan has gotten himself into a situation, and Cody is annoyed and using that to cover up how worried he is.

A consistent light source? Who? I've never heard of her in my entire life.

I swear I didn't mean for there to be Christ-like undertones (I'm not even Christian) but once I had Obi's pose laid out and the light focused on him, I was like "fuck I gotta commit to the space Jesus now".

I originally intended for this to have a much more cartoony style, but the shading on Cody's face got away from me and then I needed to match that level of realism for his whole body, which drastically increased the time taken and I had to scrap all my plans for Obi.

The pose/prompt and Obi's outfit are inspired by Crossfire by Brandon Flowers, a whumper's dream of a music video and also a bop. I had sketched something out about two years ago and ended up adapting it for this idea.

Obi is wearing suspenders and a dress shirt because 1. I hate drawing clothing and knew robes would suck 2. Brandon is wearing that outfit in the video which made an easier reference 3. Suspenders are hot 4. I needed to show the hairy chest

For now my tumblr blog is the only place. I do 100% plan to write an AO3 fanfic regards her one day (because she honestly has so much lore that isn't even jttw/lmk related). But not any time soon, I'm very busy with school and I still have to work her whole character out before I start writing. When I do publish the story I'll announce it here :D

Juleka has Dyslexia

The long-sleeved shirt Alix wears with the snakes on the sleeves has some sort of inappropriate band name or slogan on the front, so she wears that weird tank top thing over it to avoid getting dress-coded.

Alya keeps trying to find an “our show” to watch with Marinette, but Marinette keeps caving into temptation and watching ahead on her own. So Alya starts choosing only new shows that are currently airing, but if they don’t hang out the day the episodes come out, Marinette will still watch them. They mostly do movies now.

Kagami is great at drawing realism, and can gorgeously render her real life references, but she’s unsatisfied with her work because what she’s really interested in is stylized art. She wants to develop a beautiful manga-like style, but whenever she tries to draw fictional characters, it ends up looking more like anime George Washington than the picture in her head. She’s further discouraged by people praising her realistic art, feeling pressure to keep doing what she’s good at over what she actually likes

Adrien was an Animal Jam kid

Chloe is inflicted with We Can’t Let People Know We Have Interests. She hears Alix and Mylene chatting about some popular sitcom she also likes in class, but as many times as she could’ve butted into the conversation, she can’t make it happen. On her way to lunch, Sabrina got stuck talking to Max and Rose about their Animal Crossing islands. Well Chloe’s is super cute if she can say so herself,,, no, she couldn’t say anything at all. Hurry up, Sabrina. Chloe knows that classic anime is the fastest way to Adrien’s heart, but she can’t bring herself to strike up a conversation about it. Isn’t being a weeb cringe? Not that Adrikins could ever be cringe- I mean- uh-

Sometimes Luka gets stuck in customer service mode after work and uses The Voice around his friends. At band practice, he introduces the next song into the mic, and Nino’s like, “are we about to hear rock music or phone line hold music?”

Astruc implied that Nath wasn’t in the Christmas special because he’s Jewish, but Mylene and Ivan weren’t there either, and ofc nobody asked about them, so headcanons! Ivan is Eastern Orthodox, so his Christmas isn’t on Dec 25th, and Mylene believes in certain spiritual stuff, but doesn’t participate in any organized religion or specific denomination.

Rose used to do ballet, but she stopped because her time in the hospital made her fall too far behind. She still likes dancing, and has a good feel for it because of ballet, but she prefers modern styles now.

Alix was named after her dad. If she was born a boy, she’d be Alim Jr., but since she’s a girl he changed one letter.

Marc forces Nath to get out of the house, get vitamin D, interact with other people, and exercise, but Nath returns the favor by bugging Question Marc about his posture, especially while they’re working.

Zoe’s “one and only good friend” from New York who wrote I ♥️ U on her shoe wasn’t a platonic gal pal at all.

Kim is colorblind, but he doesn’t know it

Mylene has that “not now, sweety. Mommy’s cyberbullying the mayor” t shirt

Alya learns that Hawkmoth reads the Ladyblog, and since he knows her identity but the public doesn’t, she hides passive aggressive “fuck you” jabs in her posts.

Alya putting the greater good over journalistic integrity by intentionally spreading misinformation on the blog if the team needs it. She’s staged a “candid” photo of LB with Marinette in the background after a close call. She “mistakenly” misreported the powers of a couple new villains as being brainwashing when they actually did things like grant wishes or were literally made of money so that people wouldn’t go after them and make them harder to defeat. She and Marinette set up “exclusive” semi-scripted interviews with the zodiac heroes where they told made-up origin stories so that Hawkmoth wouldn’t trace the compromised heroes back to their whole class or friend group. Alya is prohibited from typing the word “kwami”.

Luka has synesthesia and actually hears music when he sees people

Markov pretends to not have certain functions out of laziness. “Can you look this up?” I’m not a search engine (he’s not, but he has instant access to one). “Can you scan this document for me?” No. “Can you send my paper to the printer?” No.

He also pretends to be more advanced than he actually is. “Hey Markov, can you-” I am downloading your private browsing history as we speak. “Wh- you can’t do that!” I already did. Now I’m hacking into your Twitter account.

Markov likes to plays dumb and take everything literally. He understands jokes and sarcasm just fine, but enjoys a bit of trolling. He responds to idioms like Amelia Bedelia. If someone makes a joke with a euphemism, he pretends to be totally innocent. He says that Max put parental controls on him, but that’s a lie.

Everyone thinks Alix is an extrovert, but she’s actually an introvert. She’s very sociable, but hanging out too much wears her out, and she needs a lot of quiet or alone time to recharge.

Everyone thinks Marc is an introvert, but he’s actually an extrovert. He spends a lot of time in private, but that’s mostly because he’s shy, anxious, and afraid to leave his comfort zone. When he does, though, he gets that extrovert buzz.

The Sandboy kid, the Risk froggy kid, and the Kuro Neko cat girl based on Rhythm are all besties. Writing this reminded me of that kids’ book series called The Familiars about a blue jay, black cat, and frog.

Until he finally shows up again in the show, hc that the Sandboy kid is named Jay

Adrien is jealous of his friends’ ability to express themselves. He thinks about how he’d dress if not for his father and the brand. Would he dress alternatively or go for some aesthetic? Would he want to look rebellious or preppy (but not in a default Sims kind of way)? He doesn’t actually know, but wishes he could try stuff out.

Jalil is a cataphile (someone who explores the forbidden parts of the Paris catacombs, which is basically all of them except for the tiny tourist stretch, as a hobby). He goes with his friends, and brings Alix with him frequently. She’s practiced her spray painting skills down there.

Kagami and Juleka bonding over their affects and how their tone of voice doesn’t reflect how they actually feel, but from an outside perspective it just sounds like the most monotone conversation ever

Each of the doodles on Zoe’s shoes in canon corresponds to one of her friends and has a deeper meaning, even if it’s just a little inside joke. Okay real talk I need this lore in canon. We haven’t seen them super zoomed in and from all angles, but there are clearly individual, unique drawings on them.

Alya and Nino low-key had feelings for each other before Animan, but they were in denial and didn’t really take them seriously until then.

It started when Nino left school one day with sort of fluffy hair and a bit of bang, but came back the next morning with a buzz cut, and Alya was like huh he still looks cute somehow

Rose makes good tea and Nath makes good coffee

Mylene has a vegetable/herb garden on her balcony and rooftop. Her bedroom is also packed with potted plants. The air is so crisp.

The whole group has one big shared Minecraft server where they live in the same ever-expanding village together

Chloe likes those resource management mobile games where you run a cafe or build a kingdom or something

Nathalie plays video games in private, especially after she got sick. Gabriel doesn’t know. She usually buys whatever’s most popular lately, and prefers adventure games.

Ladybug explains the plan to her team and asks if they have any questions. Every time, they makes a point to ask the most off-topic questions possible. “What’s your favorite color?” Take a wild guess, buddy. (Saying pink might compromise her identity) “if you put a miraculous holder under a hydraulic press, would they die?” What the fuck? I don’t know, we’ve never encountered that problem and hopefully never will. Like, probably? “Who was your top artist on Spotify Wrapped?” That’s a secret (obviously Jagged). “If doing it would lead to instant world peace, would you rather kiss Hawkmoth or Gabriel Agreste?” Everyone shut up. Shut up. The villain is getting away.

Rose collects everything for her scrapbooks. Receipts, ticket stubs, stickers, brochures, you name it, tucked between photos of her hanging out with friends. “Hey, what was that cafe called that we went to last fall-” she has it all documented.

Adrien reads Marc and Nath’s ladynoir-centric comics laying on his stomach on his bed with his hands under his chin kicking his feet in the air and giggling

Once they made a comic with Carapace as the main character, and Nino was like omg THANK YOU :’-) and they’re like huh didn’t know he was such a big fan

Marc and Nath scrap the majority of their original concepts because they don’t want to give Hawkmoth any ideas. The angst stories and dangerous villains don’t make it to publishing so that Hawkmoth won’t copy them if he sees them. A lot of their villains are either real ones or original ones whose powers are fun but useless to Hawkmoth’s goals.

At the same time, sometimes Hawkmoth coincidentally makes villains similar to something the boys have already done, except Worse, like the trashiest bootleg equivalent.

LB: Rena Rouge texted me that someone just got akumatized over losing a chess tournament. CN: I wonder what their power is. Hey, this reminds me of that one comic issue with the chess villain. LB: oh yeah, The Grandmaster. She had that tall crown based off the white queen piece with the flowing robes, and she turned the whole city into a giant chessboard! We and the other heroes could only take turns moving across city blocks based on the piece role she assigned us. We had to let some of our friends get captured, but we managed to pull off a checkmate and break her akumatized crown. What if that story is about to become reality? The actual villain Gabe made: my name is The Bongcloud Opener. Everyone I touch turns into a giant lifeless pawn piece, and I look like a sentient checkered Van.

Kim has been blocked and unblocked from the group chat maybe five separate times for spamming memes

The “y’all watch bob l’éponge?” Tweet except it’s Zoe in New York

Chloe once had and maybe even still has a crush on Alix, but she doesn’t even really realize it because she has a severe case of comp het. Alix sees it, though. Of course, Alix is aro, so Chloe didn’t stand a chance regardless of her bullying. Alix uses this immoral opportunity to mess with Chloe as much as possible.

Everyone makes jokes about how Chloe is both gay and homophobic, but Adrien’s like oh sweetie you have to deal with those internalized problems

Rose got into embroidery, and she got Ivan into it too so that they could make punky battle jacket-like patches for themselves and their friends. They aren’t very good yet, but the shaky needlework is kind of charming.

Nino tells Adrien that his dad has such objectively horrible taste, anything he actually likes must be terrible. His designs? Ugly. His decor? Depression-inflicting. His “friends”? Assholes. The food he orders his private chef to cook? Unseasoned. Another time, Gabriel approaches Nino who came to his house to pick up Adrien, and tells him that he was genuinely impressed by Nino’s DJ work at his last fashion event. Nino shrivels up inside.

Marinette is Not Okay during exams week. She stresses tf out and gets like no sleep yet somehow still does exceptionally well

Everyone is suddenly ride or die during exams week. Tom and Sabine supply the kids with snacks while Max is compiling all the algebra formulas they might need to memorize into a Quizlet, Sabrina is trying to come up with mnemonic devices to help with physchem, and Adrien is doing a review lecture of the French readings like he’s on a podcast.

Marc folds cranes when he’s anxious

In the last post I wrote that Alix and Nath dyed their hair and did the messed up cuts together. Alix re-dyes hers more often to make sure it stays neon hot pink, which involves bleaching it the second her roots start showing, or else she hates it. Nath only re-dyes his when it starts looking really bad in that awkward phase with the faded color and long roots. Because of this, Nath maintains sooomewhat healthy hair, but Alix’s is fried. She doesn’t have to use as much hair gel or extra-fry it with a straightener now because it pretty much stands up on its own. It feels like straw. Juleka wants to scream every time she sees Alix has made it worse.

Rose makes cute contact names with a billion emojis for everyone in her phone

She has Juleka as “Juleka🦇🎸💜💘” [bat, electric guitar, purple heart, pink heart with an arrow], so she was offended when she found out that Juleka has her as “Rose”.

Turns out that Juleka doesn’t even make contacts for most people at all. The home screen of her text app is full of conversations with people who are just their phone number or “maybe: [name]”. The Kitty Section group chat is her, “Rose”, “Smurf”, and *Ivan’s phone number*

Marinette made all sorts of cute things for the kwamis under the guise of the dollhouse project. It started with the “dollhouse” being a temporary hiding place for the miracle box, but then she started making tiny clothes and furniture for the kwamis to play with, and wherever anyone asked she’d say she’s just gotten into making miniatures as a hobby. Fancy, decorative dollhouses used to be a big flex in Western Europe, after all, but this one is more like the one from the Borrowers.

Kagami has a traditionally Japanese bedroom arrangement with a futon that she puts away in the morning. The first time Adrien was in her room, it was during the day, and he’s like where the fuck is your bed

The girls play the wholesome fuck, marry, kills about the guys at their sleepovers like the "get them randomly assigned as your lab partner for a whole semester, get trapped with them on a broken elevator for ten hours, they’re your employee trainer for your new job at McDonalds” one from that one tumblr post

Kim tries to get the guys to play Truth or Dare at sleepovers, but they don’t really want to, reminding Kim that he legally can’t be involved in dares since Timebreaker. He makes them “play” anyways, but they can only do Truth, and the guys respond to each question with some smartass answer. They find loopholes in Kim’s wording like genies until they bully him into quitting/until it’s his turn.

Max and Alix got that 5D Chess game on Steam as a joke, but after messing around with it, they started really getting into it and taking it seriously

Adrien’s friends seeing his dad as cartoonishly villainous is already canon. They start a tabletop RPG campaign, and the major antagonists are suspiciously one-to-one with Gabriel, Nathalie, and the Gorilla.

Everyone jokes about dressing up as Gabriel, the scariest monster, for Halloween. Nobody actually does, but on a separate occasion, Kim tries to get Ivan to dress up as Gorilla and Nath to dress up as Nathalie and video call Kim from his tablet. Kim, dressed as Gabriel, takes the call from a remote room. Then, they break into Adrien’s house because that’s just what his friends do for fun, and they’re pretty much experts at this point. Nath tells Adrien his father needs to have a word with him, turning on the tablet to reveal Kim, who tells him, “Son. I need to have a word with you”.

Zoe and Marc are best friends, and Ivan and Luka are best friends. I think (?) this may be canon, but they’ve never actually said it.

Ivan is The Realest to Luka, like in Crocoduel when everyone was planning to manipulate him, Ivan stuck up for him. Also Luka explicitly hates liars and Ivan is physically unable to tell a lie. They make each other playlists and write lyrics together. The two of them have one of those Spotify Blends separate from the four-person Kitty Section one.

I feel like Zoe and Marc are a year below Marinette’s class, like they just give off younger sibling energy. As classmates, they spend more time with each other than with the rest of the group. In Gabriel Agreste, when Zoe manipulates Jean-Biblespoilers, she calls Marc afterwards instead of Marinette or Mylene or anyone else. They are wlw mlm solidarity. Ms. Mendeleev brings up a partner project and they look at each other like that Nicki Minaj Only meme with the Veggietales characters. They talk shit in really fast and informal English so that their classmates don’t understand them.

Rose’s sandals have a pink circle on the sole that isn’t positioned in a way for it to be the anchor between the sole and the rest of the sandal. It reminds me of this old Sketcher’s line called Bella Ballerina where the shoes had a round, spinning piece that you could balance and twirl on. Since Pigella’s design is inspired by ballet, I hc that Rose’s shoes also have that spinning piece.

Alix spreads historical misinformation to Jalil, who eats it right up, because it’s hilarious. Just trust me bro, I’m Bunnyx.

On the other hand, Jalil being like Ronaldo from Steven Universe by making absolutely insane conspiracy theories that happen to be 100% correct, and Alix is like shitshitshit how does he know??? Do I need to cover this up???

Kim is a great ally, and maybe even questioning, but he’s so confused all the time

Juleka tells him she’s a lesbian. Now she’s obviously French, but he’s pretty sure her mom is Scottish, and Jagged is a native English speaker. Is there some secret little island nation in the UK called Lesbia that he’s never heard of before?

Max: whoa, Nath, you’re ambidextrous? I didn’t know that! Kim: uh, dude? What rock have you been living under? He’s been with Marc for like five months

Zoe: don’t you think that girl over there looks a little, y’know, *limp wrist* Kim: you’re stereotyping someone based on their appearance and judging them? Wtf, I didn’t expect this from you. Zoe: uh, what? I’m wondering if I should ask for her number.

While Alix is gone, the kids fill in her place by putting her hat on and pretending to be her. What would Alix say if she were here? They try to copy her mannerisms while wearing it.

Y’know that one post I made about the true power of the rooster miraculous being that the holder can do anything they and the people around them believe they can do? Hence the concept of “pretension” as in pretending to be something you’re not, and the power of “sublimation” as in impressing people as well as turning something solid into vapor, like how the power is solid as long as people believe it but turns to vapor if they don’t. The Lavillants have that last name by coincidence, but when they had Rose, they intentionally chose the name Lavillant, Rose (la vie en rose, life in pink) to wish her a happy, ideal life

Mr. Anciel is an immigrant, and changed his name to be more westernized and easy to pronounce by French speakers similarly to Sabine. I’m thinking his given name had “Sun” in it and he was like, y’know what’d be so funny… which is how Marc Anciel (arc en ciel=rainbow) and any potential sibling(s) ended up being named after things “in the sky”.

Mylene has a mom who is black. She and Fred are happily married, but she’s usually pretty busy with work, so they mostly see her at home.

Rose has a bio mom and dad who love her very much, but they can be a little overbearing due to her illness and have trouble seeing her as not a little kid anymore. They don’t really get all that punk rock stuff she likes, but huh as long as she’s happy.

Alix had a mom, but she died a couple years before Origins. Jalil took after her while Alix took after their dad. Alix didn’t take it very well for a long time, but she’s better by the time this school year started.

Max’s dad died when he was very young, so he was pretty much raised by Claudie

Nino and Chris’s parents are divorced. It happened after Nino’s older brother died. (How much of this is canon? The Lahiffe lore is such a middle-of-the-iceberg thing, but apparently they’ve been putting off writing it into the show since season 2? Like can they please just explain it?)

Nino used to bully tf out of Chris, but now he has to take on a more responsible role as an older brother, so he acts more mature.

Maybe Kim is Mr. Le Chien’s biological kid from a previous relationship, perhaps with someone named Nguyen, and Mr. Ature is a stepdad? Sure, hc that they’re fiancés, and Kim accepts his soon-to-be stepfather as a dad.

Is Marc the only major POC character who doesn’t have a canon ethnicity? I think he is… someone with a Twitter ask Astruc about this for me. I saw people hc him as Latino which is very valid, but I always assumed he was Asian. Hc that his mom is Chinese and his dad is Korean. Until canon proves or disproves me, I hc that the Sandboy kid is his brother.

I love the semi-popular hc that Marc and Marinette are cousins. I will hold on to it until canon proves it right or wrong, although if it’s true then I feel like they would’ve said so already. In this case, Shu Yin would be Marc’s mom. Since she lives in London and he lives in Paris, she and the dad would be divorced. Considering how the DPCs talk about her,,, it’d be no wonder. It happened recently, and Marc only moved to Paris from London in late season 2, which is why Marinette was already friends with him and checking in on him despite him appearing out of nowhere.

Subcategory for the kids interacting with their kwamis after they become permanent holders. The pronouns I used for the kwamis aren’t my headcanons so much as me dealing with the “canon” ones being different across every dub.

Sometimes Kim forgets that Xuppu exists which allows him to get up to trouble on his own. Kim uses only the worst lies and most incomprehensible bs to explain the mischief Xuppu caused, but his dads are like eh, just Kim being Kim *shrug*. Kim is proud of himself for being so smooth about it but nobody has any clue what he just said.

Kim gets Xuppu going about something and then uses his rambling as background noise to help him concentrate better

Roarr annoys Sass for sport

Roarr is a big fan of the music Anarka tends to blast at an unhealthy volume on the Liberty. Juleka makes him playlists of songs she thinks he’d like, partially because sitting down and listening to them through an earbud prevents him from bouncing off the walls 24/7.

Sass low-key hates it here, but he has saintly patience and loves Luka, so he acts like he’s having a great time around him. Anarka’s immature behavior ticks him off sometimes, but he’d never tell him that.

Sass getting Luka to focus on things that benefit him instead of putting other people first all the time

Max builds Markov an update that allows him to actually see and talk to Kaalki. Maybe with the help of some magic alien technology sent over by Olympia and Aeon as a favor between superheroes.

Kaalki has a hard time believing that researchers and inventors can be glorious and famous until Max catches her up on the exponential growth of technology during the last ~200 years she spent inactive. Sure, Kaalki’s seen phones and computers, appliances, cars and planes, all that since becoming active again, but she never stopped to think about the humans who made all this stuff possible.

Kaalki having a “yassify Max” agenda vs Max trying to explain what light/dark academia is and that the vintage look is very much on purpose. Also Kaalki being the devil on Max’s shoulder trying to convince him to make more bad decisions, and he’s like that’s okay, Kaalki.

He gets on her case for backseat gaming too much, so she tries to only cheer him on when he plays, but with her prim and proper way of speaking it sounds absolutely hilarious. “Desecrate him, love! Yes! Absolutely fantastic execution!” It gets worse when she starts picking up on gamer lingo.

Daizzi tells Rose that they miss the little hats Ladybug would make them and Rose is like don’t worry I got you and pulls out her craft supplies

They have little tea parties together

Mullo bugs Mylene because they think it’s hilarious, and at first they get to her, but then she grows a tolerance to the pranks and jokes, and eventually starts to get revenge. Mullo will change Mylene’s phone alarm to horror monster heavy breathing audio and Mylene will just pull an air horn out from under her pillow and set it off in Mullo’s face.

She sprays water at them with a spray bottle like a naughty cat when they’re up to no good.

Orikko has very sophisticated tastes. When Marc asks what to feed him, he asks for caviar toast followed by truffle bouillon with a main course of wagyu steak and a gold leaf-covered pastry for dessert. Marc’s like yeah no give me something I can buy with the comic book money. Popcorn? Sunflower seeds? He’ll get a boxed sandwich from Carrefour, plate a tiny piece of it like it’s from a Michelin rated restaurant, and lie.

If Orikko could’ve chosen any holder he’d have gone with Adrien

On day one, Nath gives Ziggy some kiddy paints and construction paper while he’s working on the comic, and she dips her little hooves in it and starts finger-painting a picture that looks like something a little kid would make. When she’s done she’s like, “hey, look! I made a picture of you!” :) And Nath’s like aww that’s so cute :) Later, she tells him she’s been trying to catch up with all the contemporary and modern art movements she missed. She’s more comfortable with renaissance art. Anyways, here’s an indistinguishable study of a Rembrandt painting she made.

Nath regrets teaching Ziggy how to use his computer. She learns quickly and somehow gets into every piece of media with a reputation of being cringe. Nath is jumpscared awake by Ziggy playing FNAF in the middle of the night, and when he tells her to turn that off, she shows him her Michael Afton fan art where she made him way more attractive than he likely is in canon. He opens Spotify Daily Mix 1 expecting the usual ten-minute-long songs that are at least 30 years old, but his algorithm has been invaded by hyperpop. He opens his art program to find that Ziggy made a whole Baroque style painting on a single layer. He notices his Minecraft playtime has risen an inhuman amount, and after spending forever loading the server, finds a ridiculously detailed replica of Versailles. He opens his notebook and finds doodles of Among Us crewmates. She sleeps on an amoung pequeño plushie.

Sabrina and Barrk watch corny reality TV together and Discuss. They sit on the couch with a bag of peanut butter chips and comment on everything that happens. “I can’t believe that arrogant jerk got the last rose instead of that really sweet guy. Did you hear what he was saying behind The Bachelorette’s back?” “Why did they send home the only drag queen who actually did something super original while some of the other ones barely even followed the prompt? The judges are so biased.” They talk back and forth really fast, too.

Ivan gets Stompp to critique his poetry. They don’t know much about this stuff, but when they have an opinion, they tell it how it is.

Sometimes Stompp suggest taking a bit of a Machiavellian approach to Ivan’s problems and Ivan’s like, dude it is NOT that serious.

Nino and Wayzz have opposite tastes in everything. Wayzz likes green tea while Nino thinks it’s too earthy and prefers energy drinks that practically turn your piss into acid, to Wayzz’s horror. Wayzz likes minimalist decoration, neutral colors, and natural sunlight, but Nino’s room is full of neon colors, a million posters, and LED strip lights. Nino likes EDM, but Wayzz can’t see the appeal and prefers relaxing instrumental music, which bores Nino. They don’t look down on each other for liking different stuff, but it’s hard to live so close together and be so different.

They discover that they both like lo-fi and chillhop music. Nino empties out one of his larger desk drawers and converts it into a personal space for Wayzz, who is independent and values privacy. He decorates it the way Wayzz likes and threads some lantern string lights in there.

Artists, don't read. I'm in my discouraged phase, which won't help you. art-ramble;

I don't think it was meant to be insulting or anything? Although it was. The very obvious ones I can mostly just ignore. It's just that they brought up something I always used to say in the beginning of my art journey which meant that basically my entire reason to draw or the years of work I put in is now pointless and unnecessary... When I started drawing I practiced a lot of realism (though not photo-realism) in order to learn lighting and colors because I had no clue how else to do it. And so, a lot of my art from a while ago looks.... very rendered. For some of them people always said 'it looked so real!' and I thought I was on the right track. Honestly I had no idea what I was doing, so, comments are basically my only feedback anyway. My dream in the beginning was to be able to "draw my favorite characters, but make it come more alive" by adding hints of realism onto the 2D. I was nowhere near where I wanted to go though, but... ah~ I had a vision. An idea of the art that I wanted to make and I voiced it every chance I could because people irl think whatever I do is ridiculous anyway because "drawing will get you nowhere" etc-. Things have changed in my style of course, I have a different goal, but uh... a lot of generated images which pop up, stolen from artists, hundreds/thousands a day without any work or effort by the prompt-typing-generator-people whatsoever, are generally- (the ones you recognize as definite AI.jpg's)- in a type of style that's very close to what I had in mind and wanted to achieve... ;~; It's hard to admit because I know they're very smug about it all, but it's the truth. And so this person was rubbing this fact into my face, which, fair enough because I did openly state my dream, but they kept mocking the amount of effort I put in and then swore they'd make better art within 3 days instead of my 3 years and that I'm better off finding some "other hobby". Meh. Everything 'art' is just very discouraging these days. Whenever I have a new idea/inspiration there's already something generated like it which suddenly leaves me without any. People have pulled my Gaara and Sasuke/Itachi art through the generator and the result apparently has done really well on their account(s) which is infuriating especially because it does look more polished 😣 and on top of that, everyone keeps reuploading my art on their socials and not a single damn platform is taking the forms, I have to take time for to fill in because I keep getting ignored by the art-reposters, send in seriously. Like what's the point then. ... is what I thought. But I'll get over it :')! The comments from this person were unnecessary, rude and uncalled for, but not wrong. And that's a bitter pill to swallow honestly. Or more like, impossible.

Hello! This is my entry for the match-up event:

1. I use she/her pronouns and I am a cis woman. I am also straight both sexually and romantically (I just think men are neat)

2. I would like to be paired up with one of the Papas, please

3. For my physical appearance, I am 5'6, my body type is average I'd say, I'm more flat chested/thinner around my torso and thicker around the thighs and bottom. I have blue eyes, chin length brown hair that's oftentimes up in a ponytail whenever I go out and an undercut. Style wise, I really like wearing vintage/more formal wear, such as blouses with big sleeves (even better when they go higher up the neck), high waisted pants or ankle length big skirts, vests, and some nice dress shoes or boots. I almost always have a necklace and a dangly earring on one ear to go along with my outfits.

4. I'm more on the quiet and introverted side. Especially around people I don't know and haven't met before. I can tend to be socially awkward at times. It takes a bit of time to warm up to and really express myself around others. Once I am comfortable around someone though, I love spending time with them. I like being kind and generous to others and I am very loyal to those that I am close to. I like to see my friends happy and to make them laugh and I'll easily do anything for them if they ask.

5. For hobbies, I am big on music. I am passionate about the bands/artists I listen to and I love to share music with others. Genre wise I like rock from all different decades and funky indie music, though I listen to all sorts of different genres. I also like to create traditional art, and the mediums I use are pencil, fine line pens, and I'm now starting to get into watercolor. I like to do more realism type drawings. I like to read a good book every now and then I enjoy playing video games if I have a good enough amount of free time to do so. I also have a few little collections of different things and I'm always on the lookout to add onto them. I also like to watch movies, especially with others so we can make comments on what we're watching.

6. I have a big sweet tooth, especially when it comes to fruit juices/smoothies and ice cream. My love languages are quality time and physical touch (I am a bit touch starved, unfortunately). I'm not the best gift giver, but I really like to create or handmake something for people as a gift. I tend to get stressed and anxious too easily and overthink and it's something I'm trying to work on. I also really like uncommon pets, it's so cool to get to interact with animals I don't see all that often in person.

Your match is...Papa Emeritus IV

The first things Copia noticed about you was your blue eyes, shining bright like the Morning Star and how your smile would make his heart flutter. You’d only met a few times briefly, but during those times you’d both talked about movies and video games.

That evening you strolled through the cloisters on the way to get food, your breath hanging heavy in the crisp winter air. You paused to look through the arches onto the lawn and then up. The dark night sky glimmered with small pin pricks of light, the sheer depth of it entranced you.

“Beautiful isn’t it cara… it would be easy to just look at it all night sì?” You looked accross to see Papa Emeritus IV, he looked stunning in his glittery red jacket. He had his Papal paints on and you just stuttered some kind of response. He gave you the warmest smile you’d ever seen. “I err” he added, then he too fell silent.

A small little nervous rat noise escaped him before he said “It’s okay, I am err how should I say, not the best in social situations either. But I’ve been meaning to ask… would you like to come with me to get some food? A date perhaps?” His shifts a little waiting for your response. You happily agree and he smiles broadly.

You can relax around him, despite him being Papa you can see the man underneath it all and he is very easy to get on with. He makes you a mixtape of his favourite music and when you do the same for him he gets very excited. He’ll play it when you aren’t around and he misses you, mainly when he is stuck at work.

He adores your art, he finds it interesting to watch how you go from a blank page to the finished work. He asks if you can draw him and his rats, that becomes slightly tricky as even his favourite rat won’t sit still.

He understands what it’s like to get stressed and anxious. He’ll do anything he can to support you with that and he’s really easy to talk to about it. If he sees you getting anxious, if it helps you, he’ll wrap his arms around you and hold you close. “I’m here for you cara” he’ll kiss the top of your head. “Just tell me what I can do to help and I will”

You spend evenings together snuggled on the sofa playing video games or watching movies. When it’s a movie night Copia will sneak into the Ministry kitchens and take the largest and nicest tub of ice cream he can find back to his rooms for you two to share.

🪤 MOUSE TRAP - what will always lure them into certain danger? a loved one in danger? a promise of something they are always searching for?

sylvus: he is pretty easily distracted by Ooh Shiny and will often put himself in harm's way to steal a shiny thing from someone he hates, even if it's a stupid idea to steal something at that exact moment.

cenryx: tbh his sense of self-preservation is so strong that he is not really easily lured into danger. generally speaking the only thing that will pull him into danger is someone he cares about being in trouble, or someone who's going to be paying him for a job being in trouble. because he WILL save someone who's paying him. he'll just absolutely hate it the entire fucking time.

✂️ SCISSORS - what is the “last straw” for them to cut someone out of their life? how easily do they let go of people?

sylvus: tbh his number one last straw is someone taking out their incredibly black and white morality on him over stupid shit. after dealing with saleth doing that shit to him constantly over whether or not stealing is bad, he fucking gets the hell out of someone's life if they start doing it to him too.

cenryx: fastest way to get cenryx to cut you out of his life is to start asking him intrusive questions about his past and trauma, but also. cenryx will just cut people out of his life at the drop of a hat. he has absolutely no mercy when it comes to cutting contact with people who even mildly annoy him.

🎨 PALETTE - can they draw? what do they like to draw?

sylvus: he's not formally trained at all but he does like to draw. he has a very rough, scribbly art style that's less about perfect realism and more about expressing his emotions physically on paper. he'll draw a lot of different stuff depending on his mood. often times he'll draw something that left a strong impact on him that he wants to preserve in an almost journal-like fashion--anything from a landscape view that was impressive, to a particularly interesting-looking person, to a building with cool architecture, to random objects that caught his attention.

cenryx: he does draw occasionally, but for the most part what he draws tends to be clothing designs and embroidery patterns he's planning on putting on a piece of clothing. he has a fairly decent grasp of anatomy, but generally uses his drawing ability to come up with outfits or outline how he wants to alter a given piece of clothing he recently obtained.

🎀 RIBBON - how would they fit into other worlds / aus? what aus would you like to try out? what fictional world would they fit / not fit into?

sylvus: honestly i feel like sylvus is fairly flexible as a character in terms of being able to fit in lots of alternate situations. i feel like he'd especially fit well into like, cyberpunk-type worlds as some kind of badass anti-government hacker.

cenryx: he's kind of Interesting because i have put him into several AUs by now, but he's uh. kind of a difficult character to AU. a lot of the traits that define him as a character are conformed around his native setting in calaletzi that can sometimes be difficult to translate into other universes. sometimes, altering the setup he's in is enough to make him into a completely different person (i.e. sorin, serkhan). i can't entirely say what fictional world he'd fit into best but i can say that he doesn't really fit well into settings that don't feature some kind of fucked up evil cult or otherwise corrupt religious institution, because his religious trauma is kind of a foundational element of his character.

❇️ SPARKLE - what is their most prized possession? what do they value?

sylvus: honestly i think his childhood rock collection is his prized possession. his sketchbook is a close second though. he tends to value things that have sentimental value to him, stuff that's associated with specific memories. he also really likes shiny/sparkly jewelry.

cenryx: i don't think there's one single thing that cenryx has that he values more than anything else. i think if there's one thing that he values as a prized possession, it's his house. and the fact that he doesn't have to share it with roommates.

💧 DROPLET - random angst headcanon

sylvus: he got bullied a lot as a kid wandering around torlin because he was mouthy and didn't take kindly to other kids treating him badly so it was a fairly frequent occurrence for him to get attacked by other city kids and get his ass beat. and if he tried to tell the parents of the kids who attacked him, the parents always tried to twist it around to accuse sylvus of something instead (bc he's a tiefling in an area where tieflings are not treated well). this definitely contributed a lot to sylvus's fundamental distrust of authority.

cenryx: his first experiences with learning sleight of hand and how to lie effectively as a teenager was stealing extra food from the seers' food stores and lying about it if caught, because they didn't feed him nearly as often as they should have during his teen years and he was basically constantly hungry--both because he was a teenager and because he was going through testosterone puberty at the time. this is part of why he is not at all a picky eater as an adult despite definitely being autistic; he literally could not afford to be a picky eater because his options were either eat the unpleasant food or go hungry.

🌪️ TORNADO - what is the biggest change you’ve ever made to them? how have they changed from their original version?

sylvus: honestly, sylvus hasn't really changed all THAT much from how i originally created him. he's kind of developed into a full character in the sense that i have a better idea of his personality and motivations, but he hasn't really significantly changed from how i originally imagined him. he DOES have bigger tits thanks to the wellspring now, though. which HE thinks is important.

cenryx: when i first created cenryx, i imagined him as not really having much interest in sex, due to having troubles with allowing people access to that kind of intimacy. in fact, i made jokes about how people should NOT attempt to fuck him, because it would be an incredibly bad idea to involve yourself with him that much. and. well. now he has an INCREDIBLY active sex life 😂

☁️ CLOUD - a soft headcanon

sylvus: this man is the kind of guy who has an absolute soft spot for any and all animals that are treated as bad luck omens or otherwise disliked or misunderstood because they're dangerous. he relates to the plight of these animals because he also feels like he's disliked and misunderstood for stupid reasons. he's planning on getting tattoos eventually,. and he wants most, if not all, of his tattoos to be of Commonly Maligned Creatures.

cenryx: he has a great fondness for singing, actually, as surprising as that may be. part of the reason why he enjoys living by himself is because being alone in his house means that he can sing to himself while he's doing housework, which makes the tasks--that he already very much enjoys--even more fun for him. he doesn't sing around anyone because of dysphoria around his voice, but he genuinely has a lovely singing voice and can do some amazing things with his voice when he's singing.

💓 BEATING HEART - what gets their heart racing?

sylvus: sneaking and stealing definitely gets his heart going quite intensely, and he is a bit of a thrillseeker for that feeling.

cenryx: combat and sparring. he feels very alive in a fight, either a playful one or an actually dangerous one. his anxiety also gets his heart racing but that's a much less fun heart racing.

🙊 SPEAK-NO-EVIL - what is something your oc will refuse to stay quiet about?

sylvus: he will never not express his complete and utter disdain for rich people any time he gets the opportunity to voice it.

cenryx: honestly cenryx is the kind of person to stay quiet about too many things. even if they upset him. i cannot actually imagine there being something he refuses to stay quiet about in all situations.

💥 COLLISON - what emotions do they have trouble dealing with?

sylvus: definitely grief and sadness. he turns into an absolute wreck that locks himself in a room for days on end just being miserable and refusing to do anything except MAYBE eat occasionally.

cenryx: anxiety. definitely. i mean he's better at handling it now than he used to be when he was younger, by a significant amount, but that doesn't mean he finds it easy or comfortable to deal with. his anxiety will drive him fucking insane at times.

2022 Megaman Summer Fanart Contest Results! (Part 1)

I will try to keep the dialogue short and sweet, but you know it’s hard. And I’m a little rushed in posting this, so apologies for anything that I did not proofread well. Hopefully I did not screw up any of the links. Thank you to all who participated, and hope you all can enjoy and heap loads of praise on everyone’s creations!

Hey, I did my own promo art for the first time in forever! I’ll post more on that later. This is more about you guys, first. 

This will be broken up into 2 posts, due to the amount of entries in the first category. This post will just focus on Category 1. See Part 2 for Category 2 and 3. 

I actually do have updates to one participant’s entries, but because it happened as I was writing this up, I have not have had the time to edit them in and reupload things. (Which had no effect on judging or these results) So expect a possible update to these posts late tonight after I get off work, which you can check out tomorrow.

CATEGORY 1:  Under my Nombrellan

For this category, participants were to draw a rainy day scene with the characters of their choice utilizing an umbrella or containing a character that was umbrella-based, like Nombrellan, in it.

And you guys made it really hard, because there were a lot of great ideas, and I probably made the theme too vague to judge it as well as I could with the others. Because I really had a time trying to place these. ^^; But that is also a testament to what you sent in.

If you have been following my contests for the past few years, you know Subzeroiceskater has taken up the giant comic entry mantle from artists like Wintesm and Fenril Huayra. And those ambitions were well placed here, with a fabulous kids book-like story that will have you laughing and crying, with pages that are bright and cheery, and pages that are dark and sad. You incorporated multiple umbrella designs and characters, and told a very sweet story, which I feel like was your best yet. 

2.) Zackxson: [Entry] ($75 prize)

For pure technical style, your painterly piece stood out and looks fantastic! The glow from the yellows on both Rock and Roll draw my eye in amongst the dreary rain, and while it can be seen as a smaller detail, the digitalization lines of the umbrella was a nice touch. Overall, real fun to zoom in on and look at in close detail. The realism and lighting are just really well done!

3.)  VCampan: [Entry] ($50 Prize)

Defeat a Robot Master, and still have to sit there and listen to him spill his guts out to you after...well,...his guts have been blasted out. The emotions of the scene is what helped put this one here to me, as Rock is both being kind to his enemy, but seemingly not comfortable with it. And whatever Top is telling him sure got to that Nombrellan, who is welling up with tears, that it probably won’t be much different from the rain on the bots soon. The soft glow from the stage lights on them also turned out really nice.

Toad jiggly time! Jumping in puddles and splashing around in the mud is part of the fun of rainy days, and it looks like everyone is having a good time in this scene. Until Rock’s feet splash that mess on everyone, that is. The Nombrellan sure looks like it doesn’t want to get all dirty, and knows what’s coming! LOL Love that the siblings have matching froggy ponchos. Just a cute, fun scene!

One of multiple entries featuring umbrellas as acts of kindness shielding furry friends, Volnutt has stumbled across a trio of kitties. The face on the one he’s holding is adorable. Not sure if it’s feeling uncomfortable being drenched or just being cuddled that close. LOL At least the claws aren’t out yet. Love the detail of the soaked cardboard box and how you drew the water dripping off of things like the cat’s tail and umbrella itself.

Of all your entries, this was probably my favorite in terms of overall detail and composition, but since you placed in a different category, that kept this one from placing here. Chivalrous Sword Man might not have an umbrella himself, but that shield works just as well. The background is so pretty, definitely fitting of the opening of his stage. Even the smallest of detail was a focus, like the solo ladybug on the leafy blade. The Sheep Man umbrella design turned out really cute!

Living together in a world where only Reploids exist, as it almost feels dream-like with the white fog around them. Very clever take combining Zero’s Z-saber and Iris’ gem in your umbrella design, it definitely stood out as unique! The cobblestone path looks wonderful as well as they take their stroll.

Marquelle Power: [Entry]

In the digital world, it must be nice to be able to have an umbrella sit above you without having to use your hands to hold it, as Toadman illustrates. Very cute pic, and reminiscent of his battle with him on the lilypad. The tall stands of water grass drawn in the background really frame him in nicely.

Mattasaurs: [Entry]

Another fun splashing in puddles pic, this time without the dirtiness of mud, as Misora gets Subaru all soaked outside of school. Just don’t hit that Tel Tel with anything that will change the rain to snow. The way the water splatters turned out really good, as is your background work of the school gate/wall. Subaru’s umbrella has a cute design with Toadman.EXE and the lightning bolts, while still incorporating a little shooting star into it. 

Miralie: [Entry]

I really thought this was minimalistic-ly beautiful, telling a story without showing too much. Iris is obviously excited to see Zero outside of the frame, and it’s cutely funny to see the taller Zero’s heels lifting up like he was the one leaning in for a kiss with the shorter Iris. Fantastic job with the details of Valentine’s Day Iris’ dress, and I love how the lineart for her just curves and flows so well. Very pretty overall.

This scene with Mamoru and Serenade encountering a little birdy in the rain is very adorable, as is Mamoru’s froggy umbrella. I thought that was a very clever, yet subtle, design for the umbrella. Made me instantly think of the froggy trash can in EXE when I saw it. Also clever way to make use of Serenade’s scarf  raiments to act like an umbrella to shield them from the rain. The way the water drips off of them turned out great as well. The pink hydrangeas in the background are pretty and add some cheer to a dreary day.

Sunshowers are a wonderful thing to experience, and you brought some brightness and cheeriness to a dreary theme with the rainbow overhead breaking through the storms. The ‘lil Escaroo with an even tinier real snail friend is super cute. The shading work with your colored pencils, especially on Tornado Man, turned out really good!

Ryan Vogler: [Entry]

Only an evil genius would have an umbrella with a lightbulb on top of it. I would love to see this in animation action, as he thinks up a Robot Master that will surely defeat Mega Man this time, and the light above the umbrella just lights up super bright. Clever, and gave me a good laugh. The chaotic sketchiness of your linework is more noticeable zoomed in, but it really does reinforce the downpour of the rain in that way as well. That detail and style helped make the whole piece really unique, and I really liked it!

And finally, one more lone kitty in a cardboard box beside Enzan. The background detail with the huge amount of hydrangeas in bloom turned out very pretty, as did the little details like the blades of grass along the pooling water on the sidewalk. Having a clear umbrella lets that background stand out, and the ‘lil ghosty Blues hanging from it helps echo the transparency of it.

Has to do with popularity. It is not easy getting your account off the ground in the beginning and many people are picky with style. Such as if you're not throwing a character like Mammon for example the same way an artist draws them then you can forget being notice. Another thing I find upsetting is majority of them look down on new artist. It took me ages to get my account rolling, but I still have moments of not being noticed vs a hungry popular artist who cares more about followers than supporters. They only reply to close friends and ignore those who aren't their friends. Maybe posting your art on Tumblr is for the best. :(

I mean I always figured that which is why I would at least try to retweet art or reblog from other artists that were in a similar situation because they deserve the recognition as well. It’s not fair if that’s the case. We all start somewhere and we won’t grow if you just ignore us like that. And hell a lot of the “popular” artist may draw well, but sometimes their personality is total shit so I don’t get that. You got someone who draws well and is perhaps a good person, barely getting any attention versus a “popular” artist whose actually a shitty person but they get the attention because their art is “good”. I just don’t get that... I like all art. Minimalistic, Realism, Surrealism and so much more. If I wasn’t disabled, this would have been something I would have pursued in a career because I love art so much.

I am a 35 year old multidisciplinary artist. I’m Genderfluid AMAB, and I live my life as a lifestyle clown.  But I’m here on tumblr to focus on who I am as an artist, so let’s dig into that. There is always some confusion when I say I’m a multidisciplinary artist, as it’s not an incredibly common term, but to clear that up out of the gate, it means I don’t specialize in just a single type of art, but work my absolute ass off to create awesome work in a wide variety of styles and media. There’s a lot of push for artists to have a single recognizable style and to only work in a single medium; But this isn’t for the artist’s benefit. I’ve always looked at that as being the same mindset that people have that makes guys tell their girlfriends they’re “Too much” or to tone themselves down. People want artists to have a single style so that artist’s work can fit inside of an easily digestible and recognizable box, where just a glance can tell them which artist did that work. And I hate that. I hate being limited. I do art because I love art, and if I want to do a realistic charcoal work one day then a digital anime style piece the next I’m going to do that. What styles do I use, you ask? That’s a hard question to answer in-depth because I have practiced a wide range of media (Charcoal, graphite, pastels, acrylic, oil and watercolor paints, photoshop, illustrator, pen and inks, colored pencils, Prismacolor markers, lithographic printing, screen printing, woodcarving, leathercrafting, sculpture, photography and photo-editing), and multiple consistent styles with each medium I use. But to simplify and clarify it, I can at least list the styles I am happily ready to market myself in as a professional at any given time because I have spent over ten years doing each of them, and these styles are my own at this point; -Anime and Manga Style - My own Anime style is a bit more on the realistic side; I grew up referencing a lot of Seinen manga, pulp magazine, Death n=Note and stuff like Air Gear, as well as a bunch of Manhwa like Sun Ken Rock and King of Hell. That said, I’ve also practiced (a lot) replicating the big anime and manga’s styles from when I was growing up; Naruto, Bleach, Dragon Ball, One Piece, Nana/Paradise Kiss, etc. I obviously prefer working in the style I developed myself but I have options with the anime and manga styles. -Western/American Comic Style - When I’m drawing in my own comic style, I would say it most closely resembles Michael Turner, my favorite artist from Image Comics, who created Aspen Comics and later worked with both Marvel and DC. I grew up inspired by his work and that led to my work being similarly inspired by him. I spent a lot of time in the comic convention circuit in LA meeting artists and being exposed to their work, and while I was a bit of a fan of Marvel and DC growing up, those titles didn’t come close to how obsessive I was with Image/Top Cow, Aspen Comics, Dark Horse and Heavy Metal magazine. As an adult I’m very aware of how problematic Heavy Metal is, but that doesn’t stop it from being one of my first major artistic inspirations when I came across it as a kid and didn’t know any better; And themes aside, the art was REALLY good; Between Hajime Sorayama, Frank Frazetta, Luis Royo, and a slew of others who did work for them, the visually artistic quality of the magazine was amazing. -Semirealism/Realism - I don’t want to say that this is where I started as an artist, because I I remember correctly I started drawing with anime characters back when I was like 9. However by the time I was 13 I was already trying to draw realistic portraits in pencil, and by the time I was in high school I was already able to do it. I don’t really have a lot of specific inspirations for this style, as honestly it’s the style that came most naturally to me. I have always done my fastest, best work in straight up graphite or charcoal; And I’ve been able to expand that work to a slew of other media, leaving charcoal as my favorite of them all. Given the time, I can do (and have done) massive 18x24″ charcoal portraits and pinups that look almost like a photo (although I do prefer to make the work obviously drawn when I can).

-Cartoon Style - Being a realism artist makes cartoon styles the hardest of the styles out there for me; It’s about simplifying. Simplify simplify simplify. My own cartoon style is a mix of anime/manga chibi styles and things like Jhonen Vasquez and Tim Burton’s art, as well as a few different web comics that I grew up with. I can’t say my cartoon work looks like any specific cartoon artist, but those are at least my go-to inspirations when I’m working in the style. If at all possible I do prefer to avoid this style. -Character/Pinup Style - Unlike the rest of the styles, this one is completely a creation of my own. It mixes semi-realistic shading with a linework style inspired by both anime and American comics, but wouldn’t necessarily fit into either of those brackets. It’s simpler than semi-realism, but a lot more realistic than cartoon, and I’m looking forward to creating a lot of work in this style very soon. -Tattoo Styles - I will preface this with the fact that I have no experience doing tattoos on peoples’ bodies. However, I have had a TON of commissions where people wanted me to design their tattoos, and so I had to study them in-depth so I knew what the tattoo artists would need when the client took my art to them. I am confident in the American traditional style, Contemporary, Cartoon, and Black and Grey styles. -Graphic Design - Originally, I started learning graphic design for my own purposes; How to brand and market myself. Create my own logos, etc. I figured, if I already have the artistic abilities why not do it all on my own? Before I realized it, I was doing paid work for anything from logo and t-shirt graphics, to album art, magazine covers, web banners and profile pictures. I can do both corporate and illustrative graphic design, but I prefer illustrative. -Nagel Style Reproductions -  To be clear, this is reproducing his style, not reproducing his work. Nagel was one of my very first formative artistic inspirations. About ten years ago, I decided to do one piece referencing his work as just a style study, and then people wanted me to do portraits of them in the style, which eventually led to me now having a portfolio of about 30 pieces that are various portraits, pinups, etc, in his style. I never expected or wanted to be known for that, as it started as just a practice thing for me, but Nagel is so iconic that it became one of my most demanded styles from prospective clients. So there you go. Eight solid styles that I work in. I don’t mean to ramble, but stopping me from infodumping when I get started is really hard to do, especially if I’m the one who needs to stop himself. In the past, I haven’t been the best at labelling my artwork with the exact style I’m using, and so there’s some confusion as to which I’m using on specific pieces among my current fanbase, but I do hope to rectify that with a new labelling process that I’ve started the last couple weeks for clarification. I unfortunately will not be going back and labelling work that has already been published online, but hopefully you all will start to see the distinctions as I publish more.

6) Show us a bit of a WIP!

most of my art wips i think ive shared or are incomprehensible messes but ig this counts - currently doing wip brainstorming for potential merch lineup (charms in this case) for a VERY potential con n hopefully online sales bc id love to get back into that... i have others but these r the only ones ill share mainly bc i can use this as an opportunity to gauge the actual interest lmao

15) Have you noticed your style change over time?

definitely! in two different ways i suppose:

when i first draw things i tend to get trapped in more... realism n an inability to stylize n its a process i repeat every new fandom i go into until i get comfortable enough to draw the stylized versions?? idk if this is noticeable to others, but its very noticeable to me haha

on a similiar note i think over time ive just grown more comfortable leaning into stylized or cartoonish art - this was originally an active process when i was like. fresh adult bc i didnt like my art at the time but i think abt ten yrs later ive hit a point where im able to draw more than the same face over n over. or i hope so lol. i have shapes i repeat a lot but ive been able to draw a lot of things n make them work in my style in ways i just couldnt b4.

i believe all art styles have a lineart + color combo that fits it n i think ive found mine! but ive also learned to be comfortable in being inconsistent n wildly different :3

yep! i both have a what ud call special interest in fandom culture & then pretty much uh do not do anything else so it makes my only hobby fandom -> ppl know. i dont really talk or hang out w ppl irl but like i was raised by and around nerds so i dont try to hide it haha. i have infodumped fandom bs at former coworkers too... its a curse. fandom is too much of my life for ppl irl to be able to NOT know

‘How Do You Live’

The 96th Academy Awards saw Hayao Miyazaki's new film "What Kind of Life Do You Want to Live?" win the award for Best Animated Feature Film. This is the second time Miyazaki has won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film, after winning in 2003 for A Thousand and One. I'm honestly looking forward to it, so I thought I'd share the news. Although everyone probably already knows about it. hh

Launched in 2017, the film is based on the 1937 novel of the same name by Genzaburo Yoshino. The book tells the story of a 15-year-old boy, "Copernicus Jr.", inspired and guided by his uncle, a university graduate, explores topics such as friendship, wealth, poverty, discrimination, bullying, people and society, and courage, to clarify "the value of what makes us human".

Still hand-painted, this production of What Kind of Life Do You Want to Live is Ghibli's largest production to date, with 60 painters working simultaneously.

I would like to share an artist who has held the position of background artist in many of Ghibli's works, Kazuo Oka, who is known to be the royal scene painter of Hayao Miyazaki's old grandpa. Since the film hasn't been released yet, I can't find any proof that he was involved in the production of the film What Kind of Life Do You Want to Live? It's said that you can only come up with one minute of film a month so this film is really precious.

Especially in the stage of rapid development of AI drawing now, the existence of old grandpa Hayao Miyazaki and his works seems to be a constant wake-up call for me not to forget the most basic and primitive way of expression. About male deer, Kazuo is a painter I have always liked very much and participated in "Totoro", "magical girl otaku rush", "the fairy tale of the Years", "a thousand and a Thousand Searches" and so on background paintings. Hayao Miyazaki once commented, "His work looks careful and serious, but when you look close, it's rough. He uses only one light stroke, and I think that's what makes his work so marvellous."

There is a Chinese saying that means that when you see a person's writing, you can learn about that person's character or can imagine their temperament. I think this saying is also very suitable to apply to paintings. hh

I guess the male deer and male must be a very quiet person, carefully observing the subtle changes around here. Perhaps he had very few words, perhaps he loved to laugh. It is as if there is a soul in each of his paintings they are either clear or silent. The paintings are all landscapes, just landscapes without a single distraction. So a pure idea is so clean. I can't find beautiful and touching words to describe his works. It's like taking a sip of sweet tea.

He has a unique way of filtering light, even the white snowy landscape seems like a warm afternoon, and the use of warm colours is also something that fascinates me. What is his understanding of colour?

There has been a constant topic of discussion about whether AI painting can replace the original artist. Every time I think about it, after seeing his work, my answer is no way. Maybe they have similar styles and colour relationships, but the feeling of handwork and painting is not there. A sensible design, a sense of realism in the conception, the colours about your mood. These are things that a machine doesn't have, and a machine is like a baby that needs to be fed and nourished by you. So don't worry too much. Use AI as a tool to increase our productivity, in more intensive hand drawing practice. Produce great work.
