Um... I think I made a BatFam AU while half-asleep...
Ok so, I wake up, and it seems last night I wrote out a messy explanation of a story that I just might have to write now... but I've read literally one Batman comic (Death in the Family), and all my knowledge comes from either YouTube, Wikis, and stories on AO3...
Hyperfixation is fun, isn't it?
Anyway, here's a copy-paste of what I wrote in my half-asleep state at around 2:00 last night (note, the doc itself is simply titled "C'mon. You Know."):
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tireeeeed let’s do this
Okay so
AU: No superheroes. Bruce Wayne is just a rich dude who starts taking in orphans because reasons.
First up was Dick Grayson, who he adopted when he was 9.
7 years later, he added 13-year-old Jason Todd.
3 years later, 12-year-old Tim Drake.
2 years later, 14-year-old Cassie Cain.
And finally, 2 years after that, he learned of and gained custody of his only biological son: 10-year-old Damian Wayne.
Only a year after Damian joined the family though, Brucie boy died, presumably in a “tragic accident”, but it’s quickly revealed that someone’s altered his will, leaving his kids with none of the family’s fortune; not even their home.
Dick, who’d moved out a few years ago, now has custody of his 3 youngest siblings, and only a small, 2-bedroom house in Blüdhaven to care for them in.
Jason, who for a variety of reasons had run away at 15, and had stayed away for the most part, reluctantly agrees to move in Full House style to help Dick, while all the siblings work with their ex-butler/grandfather figure Alfred, and family-friends Jim and Babs Gordon to figure out the mystery of their father’s death and will.
Tensions run high, Dick’s having a breakdown, Jay’s struggling to Dad (verb), Tim’s gay and spiralling, Cass struggles with speech, and Dami’s emotionally stunted. Yay!
So we got:
Dick, 24-year-old officer of the BPD. Adopted at 9 years old after losing his parents in a circus act gone wrong, Dick stayed with Bruce until he was 18, when after a heated argument he left for college. He made up with his father over the next couple years and stayed in contact, often visiting him and his siblings.
Jason, 21-year-old, works part-time at a gym in Crime Alley, Gotham City. Adopted when he was 13, after several years of living on the streets after his step-mother’s death by overdose and his father’s “peace out” moment. Discovered the identity of his birth-mother, ran away to go find her because teen angst and increasing fights with Bruce, then she was found dead a week later (her ex was charged and found guilty) and while Jay couldn’t be found, much of the blood at the crime scene was his. Then, randomly, he contacted his family again 4 years later, at 19. Didn’t move back in, and things were quite tense between him and Bruce, but still hung out with his siblings outside the home (though he was angry at Tim at first, for being adopted less than a year after his “death” and "replacing" him).
Tim, 17-year-old honours student. Adopted when he was 12, but actually started hanging around the house a little before that, as Dick was tutoring him after school. This helped both Dick, and Bruce to discover how neglectful and emotionally abusive his parents were, and Bruce literally had to sue for custody for this kid. He won.
Cassie, another 17-year-old. Adopted at 14, she’d been on the streets much like Jason had, but of her own volition… to a point. She was scarred after seeing her father do… something, when she was only 8 years old (she’s repressed so hard that even she doesn’t remember exactly what), and so ran away. This thing traumatized her so much that she lost her ability to speak for years, and has only just started learning to talk again. Instead, she usually uses ASL.
And Damian, an 11-year-old ball of politeness, good manners, and pure, unadulterated rage. He was born nine-months after his mother date-raped his father, and was raised in quite an… odd way, by said mother and her father. Long and short of it: crime family, but not a close one. He rarely if ever actually saw his mother, and when he did she wasn’t overly affectionate. He spent most of his early days being groomed to be his grandfather’s heir, only for their entire organization to be captured by police when he was 10. It was now when the emotionally stunted, spoiled brat was put into his father’s custody.
Main issues:
-Dickie boy stressed ooooooouut, gotta be a breadwinner and keep his siblings together and safe
-Jaybird technically never made up with Bruce; they’d actually made plans to get together and talk things out, but then, y’know, death
-Timmy, poor thing, is balancing school, work at Wayne Enterprises, and investigating the case of his father’s death, and has seemingly forgotten what sleep is. Adding on the fact that Bruce being dead means his (granted, chosen) role as heir to the company seems much more real (even despite the fake will, he's confident he'll figure it out and find the real one), he’s not doing all that great
-Cassie, sweetheart, has been emotionally traumatized for years, and now just has more trauma to add to that with Bruce being dead. She’s getting better, but struggling
-Dami, baby bird, is filled with more rage than usual, and is endlessly worried about all the animals in his “zoo”; Alfred remains at the manor (though he has not met his new employer), for the sole purpose of making sure they stay fed, watered, bathed, and more or less cared for.
So, to sum up, Dick’s working to support them and trying his best, Jay’s Dad-ing while Dick’s at work since his hours are more flexible, Tim hasn’t slept in years, Cass needs therapy and hugs, and Damian has a growing army of stuffed animals to fill the gaping hole in his life where his zoo used to be (since he could only bring Titus and Alfred the Cat with him to Bludhaven).
Will they be able to figure out who had their father killed and get their family legacy back?
Hell if I know, I haven’t written it yet. Probably. Get off my back.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, long story short, I seem to have issues, but this is happening now apparently.
Not right now though, Ima go play Minecraft.

“Sweet Pea we gotta get a move on it if we are going too make the train”
Hearing your dad on the other side of your door, you huffed out, hating this - you hated that you finally got everything you wanted. Too have too leave for school! The irony didn’t lose you, you lose too consider Hogwarts you’re home then your dad found you. Now it was just a evil reminder that your leaving your home.
Laying on your bed you covered your head with the blanket rolling over you had No interest in going back too Hogwarts!
Hearing the door knock again you grumbled too yourself hearing the door open knowing your Dad popped his head into the door looking around seegin your messy room- you weren’t packed, you had Nothing packed up . Your Cat Caspain was curled up on her little cat tower chewing on her favorite toy mouse that your uncle Remus gave her last year.
Sirius blacked stepped into the room seeing the destruction of your room- the last time he was in here- it was cleaned.. you were packed and Even Caspian had her favorite little bling collar on. He’s eyes burrowed seeing the lump in the bed. He stepped over as he reached over grabbing your leg shaking it weakly, “Come on sleepy head.”
“I’m not going.”
You stated as you curled up more into the bed. Sirius would be a fool If he said he didn’t see this coming. Before he broke out of Azkaban he knew your situation- Remus fought for custody but with his condition No one thought he was a suitable parent. The women (who both you and Sirius refuse too your biological mother) was a Awful women. She was a true follower too Voldemort- and only had you because you would be a pure-blood and she was planning too give you too the Dark lord as a gift. She wanted too be the Dark lords wife and used Sirius and his heart too achieves that. Thankfully for everyone involved. Voldemort had No interested in having a daughter. So she tossed you away- where you were found by the Longbottoms then giving too the proper authority and then Sirius was arrested for the murders of Lily and James potter and you were shuffled too one foster home too another. The last one you went too before you started Hogwarts you were basically a slave. Having 9 foster siblings you cooked, cleaned, did everything for your foster parents and All you Ever wanted was a family. Then school started.
Once at school you found Hogwarts too be your home- then Remus arrived and he told you stories about your Dad.- from the first story you wished and Wished for your Dad back so you could have a real Family.
The wish was granted- the summer was amazing even hiding with Remus and Sirius you had a Dad. Even Remus became apart of your family and it was perfection but School! School was going too Ruin it.
“don’t you want too go back too see your friends?”
Grumbling you said No as Sirius chuckled, “well I. know two boys who’s heart will break if you don’t return.”
That got you too uncover your face looking at your dad as you spoke, “how you know about that?”
Sirius grinned brightly seeing his daughter face she looked so much like him it still stunned him sometimes seeing her. The same brown hair the curious eyes. Only thing different between the two was that you werne’t much into getting in trouble. But being best friend with Harry Potter you were always in trouble. Espically after last year when you left with Sirius- when Harry confessed his feelings for you.. and So did Neville longbottom.
How your dad knew about that was stunning. He spoke, “moonie talks.”
“What a gossip!” You frowned covering your face again as he chuckled grabbing the blankets pulling them down as he spoke, “what about Hermione? She can’t handle the boys alone-“
“Hermione has Ginny.- she’ll be fine.” You said grabbing your blanket again. Until he pulled your blanket off again. Looking at you. “Why don’t you want too return? You love Hogwarts.”
Sitting up you looked at him as you spoke, “I Just got you back! I don’t- I don’t want too leave- can’t I take a year off or- home school? Remus can teach me.”
He sighed heavily as he spoke, “It’s not safe- we barely got by this summer- your safer at Hogwarts”
“Dad- I don’t want too leave.”
He reached over grabbing your hand softly as he spoke, “I don’t want you too leave either but you have too- I have too take your oo the train station- I want a normal life for you y/n. And a normal experiences. And Me waving you goodbye at the train station is normal. I can rest easier if your at Hogwarts Safe.- you will come. Back for Christmas.- then this summer- hopefully I can get a safer situation for us.”
“Dad-“ you pleaded as he stood up as he pulled his wand out as he packed your bags.
“I’m going too cry at the train station don’t’ make me cry now too! Making you go back too Hogwarts is hard on me too kiddo. Besides I will write letters and we can talk whenever you want.” You sighed knowing you lost the battle as you nodded your head shifting up too your feet as you left.
Tumblr media
“How is it possible you went a entire year without deciding between Harry Or Neville?” Hermione asked as you both sat up in your room- after the tri wizard tourment everyone was on high alert and your home has turned into the base for the order. Too get too and talk about plans. It was a busier summer then you expected. The door was opened you were happy Harry wasn’t here yet- a break from the heartthrob that is Harry Potter and the Sweetness of Neville Longbottom was something you needed. Too give your head a break.
“I don’t know! But it’s – did I tell you what Neville- Oh hI dad.”
Catching your dad grinning at th doorway you looked at him. Sirius craved this. A Normalcies. He has always wanted a large family too have a family like the potters. Whenever he visited it wa full of light and happiness and having you home- and even those the world was trouble it was Nice too stumble upon you talking about boys. Even those he didn’t want you too Date EVER! It was a normal thing for a teenage girl too talk about. Espically too her best friend. Y/N even with having Harry as her best friend was a Ray of Light. The only goodness in his life and hearing her laughing with Hermione and having the house full of the weasleys kids running around making what was once a awful place too be full of fun. Y/N got in as much trouble as the twins when it came too cleaning up the place on Molly’s request but this. Quite day where the meetings ended early and everyone was getting ready for Harrys’ arrival too hear the girls gossiping he couldn’t help but be happy that you weren’t tormented about what happened.
“dad!” You asked as he shook his head, “you know Harry’s arriving today?”
“what really?”
You said as he nodded his head, “so maybe keep the love talk about him too a minimum especially if the door is open.” You groaned reaching over grabbing the teddy bear that you have had since forever you were found with it. Sirius remembers buying it for you when you were born. You threw it at the door as he chuckled closing the door before he got the blunt of your attack. You had a wicked arm.
Twelve years later****
How! How can he be so late?
Being late was one thing- but too be late on a blistering hot day making you wait outside in the blistering hot sun and the humidity was cruel. Where is he? Looking around not seeing your fiancé anywhere. Ugh! You thought. You were suppose too be at Ginny’s and Harry’s house already too celebrate a birthday of their son.
Your eyes were closed too Shield ourself from the sun as you waited . All of the sudden you felt soft lips press on your neck. Knowing exactly whom it was. You smiled letting Neville kiss your neck.
Tumblr media
“sorry I’m late love.”
Opening your eyes looking over your shoulder seeing Neville. You smiled, “why you late babe?”
He smiled kissing you on the lips. “Because I’m a stupid- stupid man making someone like you wait”
You couldn’t hold the laughter in hearing him say that. He chuckled softly realizing how corny that sounded as you got up wrapping your arms around his neck.
It’s been over twelve years since your dad died. Going thru that portal. Leaving you a official orphan again.it was hard too move on. Harry after Sirius died. Shoved you away. He didn’t want you involved in anything that involved the Horcux’s or anything with Voldemort. The only saving grace was Neville. He’s Soft soul, his determination too protect the Hogwarts students when Severus took over as the headmaster. Being the last too the party too realize you loved Neville all along was typical. You never understand your own feelings. It’s why it took so long too agree too marry. Neville asked yo right after the battle of Hogwarts and you laughe.d and it got too the point that he said you had too ask. Wanting the whole nine yards. The romantic gestures the roses, if Neville had he’s way he would have you writing in the clouds how much you loved him. What really happened was you both were fighting over something silly and you blurted out how can you have such a stupid husband. Then he corrected you and your big eyes grew larger as you told him too fix that then.
Then Neville lunged towards his nightstand pulling out he’s gran wedding Ring. That he had tucked away for 11 years. Waiting too have it on your finger.
With Remus Gone, Sirius Gone, even Dumbledore you asked Hagrid too walk you down the aisle. Who was deeply honoured. You and Neville convinced / begged headmisstress mcCgonal too allow you too have a small wedding at Hogwarts. Which she gladly accepted. The wedding was next week.
‘whoa- that is some bull if I ever heard it.” He chuckled kissing you quickly wrapping his arms around you. “I was getting you a push present.”
Your head titled looking up at Neville, “babe- Push presents are for when I givebirth too your baby.”
He realized his mistake as he groaned covering his face with his hands freeing you. But you freed his hands from his face as he spoke, “I meant a wedding gift- I found you a push present for when you give birth.” You chuckled hearing that. Smiling, “oh yea? Thinking about that already huh?”
He chuckled getting more at ease letting himself forget the embarrassment he just caused himself. Leaning his forehead too yours. “I’ve been ready since we graduated” you chuckled hearing that stealing a kiss. “I know. But you know my motto- first comes love. Then comes marriage then comes-“
“me with a baby carriage I know- you know that motto is a bit shorter by this time next week. Just me with a baby carriage. Next.” You chuckled reaching up kissing him. “Come on Daddy we gotta go. Were already late.”
Neville blushed hearing that as he grabbed your hand as you appriacate too Harry’s home.
You didn’t see him.
A black dog was sitting in the alley watching you listening into your conversation with Neville. The dog strolled into the alley and disappeared.
Tumblr media
“How long until Neville is begging for a baby?” Ginny asked as you laughed standing in the girls bedroom, your old bed was in the corner. Thankful it was summer so the schoo was empty. the boys were getting ready in the boys room. You laughed as Hermione stood up pinching at your dress. “It’s a bit stug” you bite your bottom lip worried about that you figured it would be but also hoped it wouldn’t. Ginny stood up walking over helping too close the clasp of your dress. “Impossible!”Hermione begin a genius waved her wand and fixed your dress as you turned too them. As Hermione looked at you. “Oh goodness- he can’t beg can he- are you pregnate?” Your eyes grew large as you spoke, “How-“
“that glow-“
“you mean that buckets of sweat!” Ginny commented looking at you. Seeing it herself. She was stunned as you spoke up, “Neville doesn’t know! So Zip it!”
They huddled over hugging you tightly as you hugged them. Getting too your reception tent you stood in there waiting for the wedding too start you felt a twinge of sadness thinking about your dad. You wished he was here. But Hagrid wore he’s best attire and was telling you stories about your first year at Hogwarts.you smiled until you heard a voice you haven’t heard in years.
“Sweet pea- your breathtaking.”
You turned fast seeing your dad as you gasped dashing over bulldozing your dad as you hugged him. “Where you been?- how- you died/“
Hearing the music starting Hagrid said it was time. As he walked out. Knowing it should be Sirius who walks you down. You looked at your dad stunned as he offered his arm. “Can I please.”
You nodded your head, “I have so many questions.”
“I’ll answers all of them- later this is a big day.”
Stunned that as all you were so was everyone at the wedding. And at the reception everyone begged for details espically Harry who tested Sirius like Lupin has done in the past, Sirius answered every question and he promised too tell you all tomorrow but tonight Sirius wanted too enjoy the wedding. Seeing you happy was his happiest, when the mother and son dance started Sirius asked too dance with you, of course you accepted
Tumblr media
*****Bonus telling Neville and Sirius your pregnate****
Men are clueless- Every women at your wedding Knew what was up when you refused any adult beverage. Neville assumed you didn’t want too forget a thing. Which he thought was Sweet. Nothing else. Even Sirius did’t clue in. Molly Weasley, the headmisstress Every female congratulated you on both a marriage and a baby. You had too tel them all too shut up cause Neville didn’t know yet.
That was a week ago. You wanted too tell Neville sooner but with your father coming back too life, and your Honeymoon where Neville barely let you out of bed. Since the boy wanted a family with you for years, and the only thing stopping you was the fact you wanted too be married first, and after years of begging he finally got his wish, and you wanted a family too. But being pregnant already you felt slightly selfish with not telling him. But it was a GOOD HONEYMOON! So it wasn’t the time. But now you were home. Sitting with Neville and your dad as you spoke, “I should of told you- sooner.. espically since Everyone seems too know now..”
“what’s wrong?” Neville asked as he reached over grabbing your hand. You grabbed his hand with your free hand as bluntly told him. “Ive- I’m two months pregnate.”
You expected Neville too bulldoze you and hug you. What happened was he fainted you gasped as Sirius stepped over hugging you tightly. As you gasped asking if Neville was alright.
After a few moments Neville woke up as he spoke, ‘How- months? How? We were careful.”
Looking at him stunned as you spoke, “aren’t you happy?”
“babe. I am- I just0 how?”
Rubbing your head as you spoke, “remember that musical we went too see- the-“ you clinched your face not wanting too bluntly say you had “sexy” time in a alleyway because neither of you could wait too get home, you did NOT want too say that Infront of your FATHER!! Neville face went blank as you spoke, “good effort at the honeymoon those.” Sirius chuckled at your awful joke as he spoke, “I am so happy for yu sweet pea”
Looking at your dad you spoke, “Don’t you dare leave again- I will never forgive you”
“I wont.”
A baby!’ Neville said again before fainting for a second time. ‘
“Oh Nev.”

MEET LUZ,
FULL NAME › Luz Fuentes DeDios AGE › thirty GENDER › Cis female (She/Her/Hers) FROM › Yakima, Washington RESIDENCE › Laguna Street (Midtown) OCCUPATION › Acting Owner of Los Gatos Taqueria NOW PLAYING › Moment Of Truth by Gang Starr
BIOGRAPHY,
trigger warnings: cancer, death of a parent, divorce
AEGEAN BRONZE AGE ( 3,000-2,000 BCE )
when luz is small, she hears the story of her birth a thousand times. she can recite it by heart. it is a perfect day in may and her mother dolores has been walking for days, tired of carrying around a belly so swollen with life that she is certain she could fit her own body inside of it. it has been five months since dolores has seen her husband and she does not think he’ll ever come home from some godforsaken war across the sea. the truth is that he never does–not even for his only daughter. donald cameron dies alone on the same day his daughter luz takes her first breath after an arduous labor in the back of an ambulance on the way from pioneer park to saint mary medical center.
dolores tells the story as if she was in both places at once. at her husband’s side as a fatal bullet cut him down like a blade of grass and holding her own hand as she pushed and screamed on the rigid gurney. luz thinks that her mother must see everything. it is that childhood belief that protects her from the troubles that follow her cousins like black cats and shadows. it’s different as an only child, she knows that her mother has only one person in the whole wide world and she must live up to her mother’s need to be whole.
next door, the abandoned house sits behind a chain link fence. dozens of stone animals litter the yard and porch and it becomes young luz’s playground. she digs in the dirt, unburying hidden treasures and her cousins laugh and call her indiana jones. the book of greek myths her father left behind is never far from her mind and even as a small girl, sole knows she will walk in the colosseum and excavate along the mediterranean. the excavations are fun and so is time spent with her cousins, but she can’t help being envious of her cousins’ closeness with one another. without a father, she wonders how she can ever have a sibling when her father is nothing but a cold, marble headstone.
grief waxes and wanes for dolores, who knows as much about suffering as her name might suggest. linda is a salve for old pains as they ease. the two meet when linda begins waitressing at the restaurant dolores cooks at. the love is slow at first–neither woman sure what the other wants–but it is built on a solid foundation. linda has a son, francisco, and soon the fuentes pair become of family of four. francisco and luz are close enough in age that the pair become fast friends–basketball in the driveway, late night action movie binges–they’re inseparable.
school is easy for luz, who is an avid reader and an energetic learner with a solid family to support her. she quickly earns playful jeering from her cousins for being a pocha as she works hard to fit in. despite focusing on student government and basketball, she is well regarded among her peers. she is the kind of girl that makes it hard not to like–an easy going, laid back girl with a jock’s ponytail and a sharp wit. the girl is made for something great and her mother works tirelessly to afford uniforms and ap textbooks. luz fuentes is going somewhere.
MINOAN PALATIAL PERIOD ( 2,600-1,400 BCE )
it’s not the dream she had far away in the esteemed halls of colleges like cambridge, oxford, or harvard. no, whitman college–so named for the whitman incident in which a missionary is forced to pay for his crimes and yet is remembered as the white hero–is just down the street from her modest childhood home. it’s strange, then, how different of a world it seems to her. the liberal arts college is not the place she belongs as she did in high school. it’s an entirely different world. she works in the cafeteria to offset the costs her scholarships don’t cover, plays basketball for the team, and has dinner with her mother every sunday if not more. it’s not a bad life.
the classroom and court are the places where luz feels like she can really be herself. pieces of her are lost in conversations among classmates that she does not relate to and she plunges herself head first into work and family, which is the most she’s ever known. when she finds her true calling, she’s paralyzed–they don’t offer a major in bioarchaeology. with the help of a couple of advisors, she makes her own–blending anthropology, biology, geology, and chemistry together in a blissful salve that mends even the deepest wounds gained in the thirst to prove that she can be everything her mother needs. her sacrifices will not be for nothing.
when she graduates, she feels a whirlwind sense of accomplishment. she is accepted to field school in crete where she can study the minoan and mycenaean cultures to her heart’s content. it is there she develops her fascination with bones and death and focuses her interest on funerary archaeology–a subject she will study at length at the university of tennessee’s bioarchaeology doctoral program. she can sometimes hear her father calling her and she knows that she must reunite the dead with their loved ones.
THE HEROIC AGE ( 1,600-1,100 BCE )
on a quiet, hot summer night she falls in love with another doctoral student a few years her senior. they drink raki and let the waves and sand massage their weary feet. they return to tennessee and luz feels her stomach swelling with the prospect of life. rodrigo is a warm heart and though he is not prepared for fatherhood he takes to it, like he does with most things, with gusto. if there is apprehension in luz’s heart it is quelled by the worry in her mother’s voice through the telephone lines–please tell me you are going to marry him, mija. luz fuentes dedios has never broken her mother’s heart.
nayeli guadalupe esparza is born, much like her mother, on a summer’s day and is named for rodrigo and luz’s grandmothers. she holds her so tight that rodrigo is afraid she might break her. the young parents find that they love nayeli enough that it doesn’t matter if they love each other half as much. it won’t be long before they find out that they don’t love one another at all anymore.
weddings and motherhood do not stop a determined woman. luz knows that women have always persevered more obstacles than their male peers and she is determined to not let her dreams fall by the wayside. their lives are not easy–both spend long hours teaching and learning while preparing their own research. dolores and linda move from walla walla, selling their home by the house with the stone animal statues, the train tracks and the cornfield–which is now a burger king and a dollar tree. she does sewing and odd jobs while she cares for her granddaughter nayeli with her chubby cheeks and bright brown eyes.
in their final years, the couple move to crete to finish their research in the field. both grow tired of working, living, and raising a daughter together and the break-up is messy. nayeli is five years old when they realize they can no longer make their relationship work and when the grant money runs out, luz is forced to return to the united states to finish her doctoral thesis with no funding and no job prospects. rodrigo stays on at the research center and there is no arguing that nayeli is better off living with a parent who can provide for her. luz is crestfallen.
it’s hard to come back home, especially when there is no home to come back to. while things fall apart in crete, mothers dolores and linda have moved to a place called boot hill, arizona to fulfill their dream of opening their first restaurant together. across the ocean and the earth, somehow they’ve all lost touch and even cisco doesn’t hear from them except an ominous, staticky voicemail telling him that linda has gotten sick. there’s nowhere else to go to start over except to search for a new home and pray that her mothers are okay.
THE MYCENAEAN PERIOD ( 1,300-1,000 BCE )
boot hill, arizona isn’t on luz’s gps, but she knows there are small ghost towns scattered throughout the desert and wonders if maybe her mothers found some hole in the wall place in the process of a revitalization movement. the closer she gets to arizona, the clearer it seems in her mind–the more she senses that she must get to her mothers. she drives on instinct. she drives on faith. she drives all night until the rising sun illuminates the sign to boot hill. it seems like the strangest thing in the world to have found a place without a map–to have found the place without a map–but the further she gets into the charming arizona town it seems like fate.
it’s been too long, luz thinks, because her mothers barely recognize her at first and, with linda’s deteriorating condition, the feeling is mutual. there are a lot of tears in the living room of the house on laguna street, but there is even more hope. linda’s fight with breast cancer is not over, but treatment is going well. the difficulty lies in how sick it makes her and how much time has been spent away from their taqueria. happy to reunite with her mothers and help, luz agrees to take over the running of the restaurant and thinks that, maybe, it will help her in the international custody battle with rodrigo. she takes over the day-to-day operations and management of los gatos locos, but continues to work on her thesis in her spare time. slowly, but she remembers how to breathe again it’s hard to wake up everyday without braiding her daughter’s soft curls and listening to a giggling tale of the girl’s dreams from the night before. she misses greece and, on her worst days, she thinks she might even miss rodrigo.
❝ i am still in the labyrinth, and i must be willing to get lost before i am saved. it is only when i abandon myself that i am saved. ❞

Something Just Like This Chapter 13/?
Rating: Mature (For Later Chapters)
Notes:  The idea of how Cat and Carter communicate when he's stressed is lifted shamelessly from @unicyclehippo's wonderful fic Carter Grant, Super Sleuth which you should absolutely go read as it is one of the classics of SuperCat fandom, and a wonderful story.
(Also, I have edited one line for clarity since this was originally posted.)
Read at Ao3
Start at the Beginning
Cat and Carter have a talk about her new relationship.
Chapter 13 - Concern
Cat felt a moment of déjà vu as she walked towards the front door.  Four nights earlier, she’d been nervous because it was her first date with Kara.  Today, she was nervous for a far different reason.  What she had with Kara was turning out to be everything she’d hoped for, but it could all come crashing to an end in just a few minutes, because she was about to tell Carter about it.  She’d told Kara that this couldn’t continue if it wasn’t okay with him, and Kara had whole heartedly agreed with that.  Which made Cat love her that much more and made her that much more afraid of how much it would hurt if Carter reacted poorly.
She took a deep breath as she opened the door.  Anthony stood there next to Carter, but she ignored him and bent down, smiling at her son.
“Hey,” she said, reigning in her desire to reach out and hug him.  Carter was pretty good with it normally, but he was always a little skittish about physical contact after spending time at his father’s.  It was one of the reasons she stayed angry with Anthony almost constantly.  She wasn’t perfect herself.  She sometimes forgot to check in with him before she hugged him if she was scared, like she’d been after the train incident, but Anthony completely disregarded Carter’s normal shyness about physical contact.  It was also one of the reasons she was so stunned at how Carter had taken to Kara during the babysitting incident.
“Hey, Mom,” Carter said in a subdued tone.  She had to fight to keep from frowning.  Something was off.
“Why don’t you go inside,” she said.  “I’ll be in in just a minute.”
Carter nodded and slipped past her, his head down and his shoulders slumped, and Cat felt the anger burning in her.  She stamped it down, determined not to have a blow up on today of all days.  She stood up and looked at Anthony.
“Let’s go inside,” he said. “We need to talk.”
Cat reached up and placed her hand in the center of his chest, and pushed, forcing him back so that she could step out into the hall and close the door behind her.
“I have a feeling this isn’t a conversation I want Carter to overhear.”
“Then you should have thought about that before you splashed it across every gossip column in the country.”
“Anthony, as always, your mouth is moving, and you’re making noise, but nothing meaningful is being added to the conversation,” Cat said, but she felt a cloud of cold dread envelop her, because he could only possibly be talking about one thing.  She hadn’t checked the headlines that morning. Between worrying about how Carter was going to take the news that she and Kara were dating, and day dreaming about the three dates they’d been on so far, she hadn’t had time, but it was starting to sound like that was a mistake.
“You’re not really going to stand there and pretend like you don’t know what I’m talking about,” he replied.
“I have some notion of what you might be talking about, but  hope I'm wrong.  My opinion of myself might never recover if it turns out I was such a poor judge of character that I married such a small, narrow minded little man. So please, enlighten me.”
“It’s all over the news, Cat. You’re fucking your secretary. What’s her name?  Karen, or Christie or Katy?”
Cat raised her index finger in warning.  “First, Kara hasn’t been my assistant in months.  Second, I don’t see how who I date is any of your concern.”
“Oh, please,” Anthony said. “If you wanna get a piece on the side, that’s your business, but letting the help sleep their way to the top is beneath you.  And taking her out in public.  Really? What were you thinking?”
Cat stared at him for a moment, wondering what she’d ever seen in him.  Of course, she knew the answer.  He’d been kind and attentive when she was at a low point.  Adam’s father had just gotten married, and he’d asked her to sign the paperwork so his wife could legally adopt Adam.  And as husbands go, Anthony wasn’t the worst she’d had, but that was a fairly low bar.  He’d always been a little selfish.  A trait which had only gotten worse once she’d gotten pregnant, and which gave her a clue about why he was so upset.
“You should really thank me, Anthony,” she said, sarcasm dripping from her voice.  “After all, this just proves you weren’t responsible for the failure of our marriage.  No one could expect it to last, since I’m just a frigged little lesbian ice queen.”
He rolled his eyes.  “Don’t be a bitch.”
“Oh, why not?  That’s what you’re really worried about, isn’t it? Everyone saying I switched because you couldn’t perform.”
“I’m worried about my son.”
“That’s funny.  You weren’t worried about your son a few weeks ago when Kara was the one to ride every roller coaster at Six Flags with him, because you were off fucking your… What did you call it?  Oh, yes.  Your ‘piece on the side.’”
“That’s not fair.”
“Not fair?  You want to talk about ‘not fair’?  Not fair is seeing the disappointment on *my* son’s face every time his so-called father fails to show up.  Not fair is having *my* son ask me why his father doesn’t love him.  If there’s something wrong with him, or if he did something to make you hate him.  That’s not fair.”
“I have found someone who cares about me, and who cares about *my* son enough to actually show up when she promises too.  If you care about your son, then you can take the hit to your pathetic ego.  If you can’t, I can have my lawyers draw up termination of parental rights paperwork.  But if you ever say one negative word about Kara in front of Carter, I promise you, we will revisit the divorce decree, and this time I won’t hold back.”
“Cat-”
“We’re done,” Cat said, cutting him off.  “If you take issue with the fact that my twenty-six-year-old girlfriend is a better parent to your child than you are, I suggest you take a good, hard look in the mirror.”
Without giving him a chance to reply, Cat opened the door to her apartment and stepped inside, closing it as quietly as possible, and locking it.  She took a deep breath, wishing she could take a few minutes and review the news coverage, but she’d already wasted too much time on someone who’s opinion didn’t matter.  She needed to be with her son.
She pushed off the door and headed into the apartment.  A quick glance told her Carter wasn’t in the kitchen or the living room, which was a bad sign.  It meant he was in his bedroom.  She headed down the hall, pausing a moment to pick up her tablet before knocking softly on his door.
There was no answer, then then, she hadn’t really expected one.  She lifted her tablet and opened her chat app.
‘Carter, sweetie, can I come in?’ she sent.
‘Yeah,’ he replied.
Cat opened the door and stepped into Carter’s room.  He was sitting on the bed, his back against the headboard, looking at his tablet. Cat pulled the chair from his desk over next to his bed and sat down.
‘Hey,’ she sent.  She sat patiently, watching as he worked on the tablet for a while, forcing herself not to reach out and touch him like she ached to. She waited, knowing he needed time and space to feel safe, so she gave it to him.  She spent the time pulling up the gossip sites, not at all surprised to find imagines of her and Kara at the theater on Thursday night, and a few from the Art Gallery Cat had taken Kara to Friday.   She sat quietly for almost half an hour, reading all the nasty comments about her love life on TMZ, until Carter sent her another message.
‘Are you dating Kara?’ he asked, not looking up from what he was doing.
‘Yes,’ she sent back.  She was silent for a few minutes, waiting for his response as she browsed the somewhat kinder comments on CatCo’s entertainment and celebrity website.
‘Why didn’t you tell me?’ he asked after about five minutes.
‘It’s new,’ Cat sent back.  ‘We were just friends for a while.  I wanted there to be more, but I didn’t think she would feel the same, but we had a conversation on Tuesday.  I didn’t mean to say anything, but we were both upset about something that happened at the office, and I said something that let her figure out how I feel.  We talked more on Wednesday, and she told me she felt the same way.  We only went out for the first time Thursday night, but we’ve been on three dates so far.’
Carter didn’t look up from his tablet and she was careful not to look directly at him, instead watching out of the corner of her eye.  She was used to this.  It was how he coped when the conversation was too intense.  When they communicated through the chat app, he could focus on something else, and let it process in the background.  It drove his father nuts, which was one of the things she and Anthony fought about when it came to Carter.  Anthony thought she coddled him, and Cat thought Anthony had no respect for Carter’s special needs.  Under the terms of the amended and very detailed custody agreement, Anthony was required to adhere to the recommendations of Carter’s therapist, but Cat worried every time Carter left with him.
‘So you didn’t tell me because I was at Dad’s?’ Carter sent
‘Yes.  I was planning on talking to you about it today,’ Cat sent back.
Carter hunched forward a bit more, curling in on himself.  Cat recognized the signs.  He was trying to screw up his courage.  For a moment, Cat worried that everything was going to come crashing down, and she was going to have to choose her son over Kara.  The outcome was a foregone conclusion, of course, but it would hurt so very much.
‘I don’t want to see dad anymore,’ Carter sent.
Cat let out the breath she’d been holding, waiting for the axe to fall.  It only took a second for the dread to be replaced with ice cold fury.
‘Did something happen?’ she asked.
Carter curled up a bit tighter, and Cat knew she’d asked the wrong question, and started typing quickly.
‘Sweetie, if you don’t want to go back, you don’t have too,’ she sent.  While she waited, she gripped her tablet in her hands to keep from reaching out to him.
Carter uncurled a bit, and Cat breathed a sigh of relief as she watched him relax.  ‘Good,’ he replied.
‘I just want to understand. That’s all.’
Carter nodded, but still didn’t look up.  ‘I like Kara. I think she’s nice,’ he sent.
‘So do I,’ Cat sent back.
It was a few minutes before Carter replied.  ‘Dad doesn’t like her.’
Cat could see it perfectly in her head.  How the whole thing unfolded.  Anthony had come across the coverage that morning.  Then, like he always did, he forgot Carter existed, and said something horrible about Kara, or her, or both of them, while Carter was within ear shot. Probably mouthing off to whichever younger model he was seeing currently.  Cat had trouble keeping track, which is why she had a private investigator who vetted everyone her ex-husband dated.
‘I’ll tell you what,’ Cat sent. ‘I’ll go call Elizabeth, and we’ll see about getting it set so you don’t have to go back to your Dad’s unless you decide you want to.  Then, I’ll make us some lunch.  How does that sound?’
“Do you think Kara could come visit?” Carter asked out loud, making Cat smile.
“We’ll see,” Cat said.  “If she’s not busy, I’ll bet she’d like that.”
***
“How are you doing?” Kara asked Carter.
“Better,” Carter replied. “Thanks for coming over.”
Cat stopped just outside the doorway to the game room, not wanting to interrupt the moment between her son and Kara.
“I wish I could say anytime, but you know my job keeps me really busy,” Kara said.  “But I promise, if you ever really need me, I will do everything I can to be here for you and your mom.”
“Really?” Carter asked.
“Really,” Kara said.  “I mean, you obviously know how special I think your mom is.”
“Yeah,” Carter said.  “You always get mushy face when you look at her.”
“Mushy face?” Kara said.  “I do not!”
“You totally do!  Even the first time you took care of me, you’d get the same dopy face she gets when she looks at you.”
“You couldn’t have told me this a year ago?” Kara said.
“Mom says it’s not nice to tell people when they’re being stupid,” Carter said.
Kara laughed.  “Your mom said that?”
“I know, right,” Carter replied.
Cat couldn’t help but grin, just a little.
“The thing is, even if you and your mom didn’t come as a set, which you guys totally do, I’d still want to hang around with you.  You’re pretty awesome yourself.”
“You don’t have to say that,” Carter said.
“It’s true though,” Kara said. “Didn’t you help Supergirl on the train?”
“You were just giving me busy work, Kara,” Carter said.
Cat’s breath caught in her throat a little bit at hearing her son say that, but to her surprise, Kara just chuckled.
“What gave it away?” she asked.
“The Scar,” Carter said.
“Just don’t tell me the glasses are a stupid disguise, okay?”  Kara said.
“Sore subject?”
“One of my sister’s friend figured it out in, like, five minutes,” Kara replied.
“Well, just because I’m not saying it doesn’t make it untrue.”
Cat had to bite her bottom lip to keep from laughing.
“You’re as bad as your mother, who can totally stop eavesdropping and come in now,” Kara said.
Cat rolled her eyes and stepped around the corner, smiling at the sight of Carter and Kara sitting next to each other.
“What gave me away?” Cat asked.
“What didn’t?” Kara said. “I smelled the pizza and your perfume, and I heard your heartbeat and your breathing.”
“No seeing her through the wall?” Carter asked.
“Nope,” Kara said.  “Leaded glass lenses.  Trust me, X-Ray vision is not something you want use accidently.  I have seen things.”  She gave a dramatic shudder.
Cat sat the pizza down on the table, next to where Carter and Kara had set up Small World.  They were both a little frustrated after Cat had beat them two games in a row at Settlers of Catan and opted for a switch in games.
“Do I even want to know what the story is there?” Cat said as she sat down.
“Let’s just say no one involved still works at CatCo and leave it at that,” Kara said.  “Are you okay with this?”
“With Carter having figured out your secret identity?” Cat asked.
“Yeah,” Kara said.
“I’m actually a little miffed he didn’t think to share the information with his mom if he figured it out that quickly,” Cat said, giving Carter a mock glare.
“How long did it take you do figure it out?” Carter asked.
“The email leak,” Cat said. “Though I had my suspicions after the Earth Quake.  You seem to be taking Carter figuring things out a lot more gracefully than you did when I figured it out.”
Kara just smiled at her and reached down, picking her purse up off the floor.  “Carter can’t fire me because he things I should be Supergirl full time,” she said.  Cat felt a little guilty at the words, but Kara’s tone was light and teasing.  “Besides, I was going to check with you first to make sure it was okay that he knew, but I already planned on telling him.  I sat down and had a long talk with J’onn after our first date.  He agreed with me that it would be hard to explain where these came from without telling Carter the truth.”  She took two long, narrow boxes out of her purse, and handed them to Cat.
Cat took them and immediately spotted her name on one box, and Carter’s name on the other.  She opened the one with her name on it and was immediately taken aback.  The watch she was staring out was exquisite.  She didn’t recognize the designer, but it was the design was simple and elegant.  It wasn’t until she noticed at in place of the usual numbers or Roman numerals, there was symbols she didn’t recognize that she understood what she was looking at, and when she tilted the watch to get a better look, she caught sight of Supergirl’s emblem etched very finely into the crystal.
“The numbers are Kryptonian,” Kara said, blushing a little.  “If you don’t like it, I can take it back and have them changed.”
“No!” Cat said, clutching the box firmly in hand.
Kara smiled at her even wider, obviously pleased.  “They are more practical than they look,” she said.  “Press the crown in.”
Cat looked down at the watch as she pressed in the knob on the side, and the face swung up, revealing a button shaped like Supergirl’s symbol set in below what looked like a speaker grill.
Carter reached over and took the box with his name on it, opening it reverently.  Cat smiled approvingly as she saw that his watch was less a piece of fine jewelry, and something more appropriate to a teenage boy who happened to be a huge Supergirl fan.  The watch itself was in the classic diamond shape of Supergirl’s symbol, with a sturdy band that looked like leather.  The red, yellow and blue symbol was set into the face, and when he pressed in the knob, the face swung up revealing a similar beacon to the one in her watch.
“It’s a distress beacon,” Kara said.  She looked over at Carter, and Cat saw her put on her Supergirl face.  “These are for emergencies only.”
Carter nodded.  “I understand,” he said solemnly.
“I hope it’s okay,” Kara said, her voice a little timid, making Cat turn to look at her.  “I was afraid it might be a little too much too soon, but I just…  I want to be there if either of you ever need me.”
Cat reached out and took her hand.
“Thank you,” Cat said, and she meant it.  The watches might not be engagement rings, and Cat was under no illusions that they were that far along in their relationship, but the meaning was clear, all the same.
On the same day when Carter’s father had reminded her that neither of them were ever anything more to him that status symbols to prop up his reputation and ego, Kara was claiming them as family.

Space Princesses and Coffee Dates: Ch 2
So there’s probably going to be at least one more full chapter to this. Because @yourtropegirl asked for no smut, I might make an extra chapter at some point that can be read separately for those of you who would like that particular payoff.
First Chapter Here
Pairing: McKirk
Rating/Warnings: E for everyone. Fluff’s ahoy. Maybe some secondhand embarrassment.
Length: 1525 words
Summary: Here’s the date, guys! Enjoy awkward turtle Jim being precious.
The confirming text came a few hours later. ‘Sister said yes. Up for coffee in the morning?’
‘Coffee’s just about the only thing I *am* up for in the morning.’ And so what if he was picturing the way Bones’ eyes crinkled when he chuckled as Jim sent his reply.
He nearly choked on his mouthful of coffee when Len’s answer came back as ‘That’s a shame.’
“You okay, keptin?” Pavel’s voice carried across the room.
“He’s texting that doctor,” Sulu smirked. No one should look that smug when failing to fix an espresso machine. “Sounds like he’s better at flirting than we thought.”
A groan from the Russian preceded a $5 bill being slid across the counter. Sulu’s smug factor ramped up another couple notches as he pocketed it.
Jim tried to find it in himself to be offended. “You placed a bet on that?”
“What else are we going to do?” Sulu shrugged. Quiet curses were immediately followed by a resigned grumble. “Pav call Scotty. This stupid thing won’t work. With any luck, he’ll get in tonight.”
“Have fun with that,” Jim grinned while he tapped away at his phone. “I’m gonna lock up. You have your keys? Ny’s cat buried Spock’s somewhere and he can’t find them. You’ll have to let both of you in in the morning.”
“Yeah, alright,” Sulu waved him off absently, still not entirely content to leave the ill-behaved machine alone. “Have fun on your date. We expect details.”
“A lady doesn’t kiss and tell.”
“Good thing you’ve never been described as ladylike in your life.”
Jim had a good chuckle at that as he hit most of the lights and locked the door behind him.
~*~*~
The next morning was largely spent getting ready. Under normal circumstances, Jim relied almost exclusively on his charm and how good his ass looked in jeans, but something about the way Bones flirted so casually twisted his tongue and his gut in knots while sending his heart thrumming against his ribcage. It had him standing in front of his closet, wide awake and just a little manic, at 6am. Two hours should be long enough to find something to wear, right? His thoughts were interrupted by several rapid-fire alerts from his phone.
‘You’ll be fine.’ Of course Ny would’ve heard. ‘Don’t overthink it and just be yourself.’
‘Nyota has informed me I should wish you well on your date.’
‘She said I should wish you luck, but as I don’t believe in it I saw little point.’
That was the tension break Jim needed. He laughed to himself and sent off a couple quick ‘Thanks, guys’ and turned back to his choices. It was just a coffee date, not dinner out somewhere nice so slacks seemed a bit much. Ass-hugging jeans it was, then. He chewed on his lip a bit as he debated between t-shirt and a button-up.
He snagged his phone from where he’d tossed it on the bed and took a couple pics to send to Uhura. ‘Ny I’m hopeless help?’
‘Oh my god, do you love this guy or something? You’re just going for coffee, right?’
‘Yeah at that café down the street from my place.’
‘Go with the t-shirt, but wear that leather jacket.’
‘Thanks. You’re the best.’
‘I know.’
Once the clothes were laid out on the bed, Jim hopped in the shower. His hair was styled meticulously, toothbrush sticking out of his mouth as his attention waffled between hygiene routines.
Ny knew exactly what she was talking about. Once Jim shrugged the leather jacket onto his shoulders and turned every which way in front of the mirror on the back of his door, he had to admit she was right. The jeans and t-shirt hugged his body nicely and the jacket was just loose enough. Together they looked thrown together enough to be casual for the setting, but definitely good enough to be worn on a date. He ran a hand over his chin just once more to make sure he didn’t miss a spot shaving before he booked it out the door. Just a few minutes to 8; if he left now, he’d make it to the café in time.
Len was leaning against the wall just beside the door waiting for him when Jim finally came up, and the blond felt his mouth run dry; those jeans should be illegal and the way he had the sleeves rolled up and the top couple buttons undone was just downright sinful. He’d let his stubble grow in again, and Jim had to admit the effect was stunning. He enjoyed the view for another couple moments before Len glanced his way and smiled.
“Hey, Bones!” Did he sound as jittery as he thought he sounded? He hoped not. Not when Bones looked cool as a cucumber.
“Morning, Jim.” Len pushed away from the wall as Jim drew closer. “Ready to head in?”
The grin he gave in response was cheeky. “I’m here, aren’t I?”
They put in their orders at the counter and settled themselves at a table on the terrace. The sun was coming up over the trees, and there was a soft bite to the air that said fall was coming. Jim found himself looking around, hands fidgeting and leg bouncing as he struggled to remember any of the roughly fifty million conversation starters he’d thought up since the night before.
Bones didn’t seem like he was about to let that go. He ran his eyes over Jim’s shifting form for just a second before he reached over to snag his hand. “You nervous, Jimmy?”
“Are you not?”
“Honestly? This is the first date I’ve been on since before Jo was born. I think my heart’s about to hop out’ve my throat.”
“Glad I’m not the only one!”
Both of them laughing finally cuts the tension and conversation flows easily. Len asked about how Jim came to own Enterprise Books at such a young age (inherited from his adopted father), Jim asked some questions about his daughter.
“Her mother got primary custody and I let Joss have the house so Jo wouldn’t have to move somewhere different. Us splitting was nasty enough even if she was only a newborn when it was all happening.”
Jim let out a low whistle. “Wow, that sounds rough. If she had primary custody, how’d the munchkin come to live here with you?”
“There was a car accident. Joss was on her way to get Jo from daycare about a year ago and a car drifted into her lane going something like double the speed limit. You got the bookstore from your adoptive dad? What happened to your birth parents?”
“Father died the day I was born, mum didn’t handle it well, and Uncle Frank’s drunk ass was the reason dad won custody without much of a fight. He was one of my father’s army buddies, I guess.”
“And where is he now?”
A slow smile crept to Jim’s lips as he leaned in. “Why? Looking to meet the parents already? Dad retired, his husband is still a doctor.”
“Oh, so you’re just taking after your dad and chasing a doctor, huh?” Apparently two can play the teasing game. Len rested his chin in his hand and ran his eyes over Jim’s form. “Granted, you’d make a perfect trophy husband, kid.”
“Depends. You still in your residency? Can’t afford much of a trophy husband if you are.”
“If I were still in my residency, do you think I’d have so much spare time to hang around the store flirting?”
That startles him a bit. Honestly, Jim hadn’t noticed. “You were flirting?”
Len nodded and took a sip of his coffee, offering up a smile to the girl who came out to refill their cups. “Thanks. And yeah, Jim, I was flirting with you. I think. I’m not great at it, apparently.”
“I’m just oblivious, I guess.”
The rest of breakfast was spent chatting about light topics of interest. Jim found himself falling hard and fast as he listened to stories about Len’s childhood in Georgia, his quick yet difficult skip through his undergrad and med school (seriously, who finishes their residency before 28?), and everything that led him here to San Francisco. In turn, Jim told him about Iowa, his rather impressive track record of runaways and misdemeanors before he even hit his teens, and how he came to live with Chris when he was just shy of 10 years old. Len leaned forward intently as Jim regaled him with the story of how Chris and Phil met.
“They didn’t waste any time, did they?” Len chuckled.
“No, they didn’t,” Jim agreed before he drew his lip between his teeth in thought. “Y’know… Neither should we. If you’re interested, I mean, my place is just down the block…”
He shifted a bit under Len’s suddenly intense gaze. Had he misread the whole situation? Maybe this really was just supposed to be them meeting up as friends and he’d assumed too much.
“Yeah, let’s go.”
Jim blinked at him in surprise. “Really?”
“Lead the way, o captain, my captain.”

Flinty finishes her little meeting with Mungo in a fine frenzy, and, still preoccupied with the ambiguously relevant issue of being spied on, decides to muddle through some of the accumulated sending stones in the place, with the vague intention of rigging up a way to contact... I don’t know, either Albertine or or other members of the party or something. It occurs to her that Mungo Fungo and Ardis had a matched pair and she briefly considers raiding the latter’s room while she sleeps, but decides instead to tinker with the stone given to her by Tavi.
She first attempts to contact her missing friend through it, but is met by the gruff voice of a PF500 member and pretends to be a young Cockney lad who found the stone in the street. The PF500 urges her to come turn it in at the station and ominously warns that the owner of the other half of the set is dead. Flinty becomes consumed by paranoia and destroys her stone, showering herself in a burst of magic energy and disembodied voices.
She confers a bit more and heads out, first being accosted by an equally paranoid Albertine on her way to her favorite armorer. This is all for the best, as I guess she was sort of looking for Albertine anyway. She asks to be put in touch with a wizard but Al is cagey and strange, and tries to get out of the conversation, before acquiescing to at least conferring with one of the allegedly numerous wizards she knows. Still invisible (Albertine’s fault) Flinty decides to take advantage of the opportunity and do some snooping. She lurks outside of the Crystal Cats HQ and sees them leave in three groups-- Jeanne, Helena, and Leucosia heading towards the gates in a cart, Chanchala, Sawbones, and Guilotte sauntering off towards the waterfront, and Panther leaving on her own. She tails Chanchala’s awful crew down to the water and sees them slip across the river in a stowed boat, disembarking at the cliffs below Old Eigreska and beginning to climb up.
She then gets around to popping in on Grant Woolf and orders a new set of fancy duds for the prom, talks to him for a bit, then we stop at a rest stop for like 15 minutes I think. Afterwards, Flinty moves around the city to covertly dispose of the broken pieces of her former sending stone (having consulted, I forgot to mention, with Goloff before leaving about how someone might scry out an object like that). While doing so she’s caught off-guard by Panther, who invites her out to discuss a collaboration over falafel.
The situation is that halfling gangs have been committing nonsense with startlingly powerful new artifacts, speedy machines and impressively hefty suits of armor, and nobody can figure out who the perpetrators are or where they got this stuff. Known halfling crews-- like the Handsome Lads, for example-- claim to know nothing about these crimes and appear incensed about them, and Panther, being an upstanding young lady from honest means, is unable to get a foothold in the underworld. Which is where Flinty (and Panther swears it isn’t a halfling thing) comes in. Their first lead is a shady halfling with a history of moving around different iffy circles, currently in custody at the Gentle Guild HQ (currently taken over by the PF500) for a mysterious charge of public nudity on the outskirts of the city. Flinty’s ears perk up and she begins to scheme how to kill him in his helpless position unbeknownst to Panther.
On their way to the prison they chat a bit about food and their childhoods. Panther has a taste for seafood and some proteins, having grown up in a harsh region not favored by the Valley. She remembers that she has a somewhat too-large pair of mittens that she made for Flinty, monogrammed “F” and “M” and embroidered with little weasels. Flinty puts them on backwards and yells “Mother! Fucker!” while punching, a foolish thing to do. She asks Flinty what a thoughtful gift for Ardis would be and Flinty says math or depression or muesli, I suppose she’s a pretty bad friend.
They arrive at the HQ and Flinty catches up with a haggard and depleted looking Zephyr Kurunthadi, who explains that many of the human Guild members were taken by the plague in its early stages. He sends them down to the cells with a few PF500s and Flinty is shocked to see the cages crammed with halflings of all ages pleading their innocence. Finally they reach Francis Flisk, facing the wall alone in his cell and unresponsive to Panther’s questions. Flinty pushes past everyone to boldly just behead him but he grabs her wrist, turns to reveal a pale, cracked face surmounted by the onyx nubs and ruptures she last saw on Ewer under the influence of his crown, and she passes out overwhelmed by images of carnage and despair.
Waking up in a large, suspiciously comfy bed, she discovers herself covered in bruises and extremely fatigued. Panther is summoned and explains that as soon as Francis touched her, she began to violently assault everyone else but him, and that, sadly, she lost the battle. Flinty is appalled to discover that she even attacked and hurt poor Fiz, who is summoned and cautiously nuzzles up to her. Panther is willing to hear Flinty out, and once she’s appraised of the situation, to Flinty’s surprise, she agrees that Francis is too dangerous to live and must be dealt with. The two hurry back to the HQ, Flinty carried like a baby in Panther’s arms, only to discover that they’re too late. A small fleet of Sarmasik carriages surrounded the base, and inside the entire clan minus Ardis and Ilan is present, having paid Francis’ meager bail. Ardin and Francis make smug comments to Flinty as they leave, flanked by guards and Ardis’ other two uncles, Ilan Olin (Ios) and Shilan. Flinty is still far too drained from her earlier fight to press the attack, but Panther makes an impetuous lunge for Francis, only to be stopped absolutely in her tracks by the icy gaze of Ardin’s grandmother. Panther collapses to the ground in shock and the Sarmasiks file out with their prize.
Zephyr rushes out as the PF500 taunt Flinty, who they still hate for throwing rocks at them, like, a year ago, and expresses confusion at her story. He claims to have been present for a thorough examination of Francis after the first incident and saw no signs of possession or corruption of any sort. He gently suggests that Flinty has been under extreme pressure and could use a break. Flinty works herself up into a true rant and passes out again, having yelled herself to death.
Meanwhile...
Leucosia enjoys a passive aggressive journey with a barely responsive Helena and a tight-lipped Jeanne apparently snitty about not being second in command after returning to the city. They are all on an assignment to survey the condition of Daddsford, which has been seemingly abandoned for months. After some squabbling, Leucosia decides to survey the area from above, while Jeanne sends out a mysterious spectral scout to scope out the grounds. Helena, crazed, is placated by a poultice Jeanne has brought. She ruefully explains that Helena depends on medicine to remain lucid and to dull her pain, but that since Chanchala assumed leadership the budget for it has been nixed, so she has to mix it up and forage the ingredients herself. They all commiserate and Helena, too noisy for a stealth mission, is assigned to keep an eye on the roads. It’s around this time that Abby and I stopped at Taco Bell and ate wet fries, and in any case, I’m too tired to finish this. Sorry Jesse and Molly I suppose you’ll just never know what startling sights met the 24 karat eyes of... the Crystal Cats!
Edit: Both report the village totally abandoned but covered in a thick vibrant of vibrant flowers. The flowers emit a strong, sweet scent that makes the adventurers by turn sleepy and delirious, and Jeanne’s attempt to curb the scent with a little personal whirlwind are only partially successful. The two consider cutting the mission short and reporting what they’ve found but they spot a human darting into a building and after some discussion decide to continue investigating (while deliberating, they share their opinions on other Crystal Cats and sort of become friends. Jeanne tells her about Gnermal and Leucosia reveals that she helped save Maddie and Tantan). A closer look reveals that the human is Dr. Vejovis’ protege, Sunny, now with a column of flowery mushrooms blooming up the side of his body and a florid red one waving like an anemone from his eye socket. Jeanne takes a shot from Leucosia’s talons that goes wide but alerts him and he darts back into yet another house. Jeanne dives in after him through a hole in the roof and Leucosia follows after.
Inside they find more flowers, and Jeanne is horrified to discover them growing from what appear to be fresh human bodies, although the clothes on the body are mildewed and aged. They back out into the street in alarm only to discover that the beds of flowers covering the streets are also planted on human bodies. Jeanne thinks back to Helena’s ominous warning that the town was “alive with death” and wants to try taking the pulse of one of these bodies, but Leucosia grabs her and takes to the skies. They decide to call Helena in to come in loud and just burn everything down. However, it occurs to Jeanne, a veteran party girl, that if these flowers are a drug or poison, burning them all on a windy day upwind from the city might not be great. Leucosia unsuccessfully attempts to call Helena off while Jeanne retreats to try to use some nature  magic to control the blaze if necessary.
Helena blazes in and starts fighting, projectiles and divine weapons ablur, putting Sunny on the back foot. He flees but the bodies begin to rise, emitting sickly vapors and swarming Helena, who even in her armor is unable to fend them all off. Leucosia finds her courage and swoops in to assist but is shocked when Sunny’s arm extends in a braid of thorny vines and snatches her from the air-- due to the specifications of her pact, she is supposed to be invulnerable to harm that isn’t reciprocal, and she begins to go into shock. Helena perches over her, shielding her with the armored plates of her chassis, elated to be finally fulfilling her destiny, as she sees it, as an aegis and bulwark. However there are simply too many and Leucosia decides it’s time to run away and get backup. She attempts to fly off with a recalcitrant Helena, and finally succeeds in pulling the maimed young woman from her armored shell, but is knocked out of the sky again by more of Sunny’s thorns. Helena smiles and begins to calmly recite what she believes is her oath, drawing the requisite blood just as Gnermal darts in and ferries Leucosia away. Leucosia is in tears-- she knows that Aramingo, not trusting Helena’s judgement, left her without the failsafe that the other Cats possess, just a dummy oath, and that she’s been left to die.
However, she tries to ring her on the sending stone anyway and hears her voice, calm, collected, and lucid, thanking her for showing that she’d to this point placed her faith in false gods. She mentions heading back towards the city for a reckoning and Leucosia starts to break down a little.
She and Jeanne regroup, and Gnermal is sent back out to make sure Sunny and Helena didn’t escape by way of the sewers, but the entire city is charred. Jeanne is totally drained from sending the blaze from Helena’s last stand out to disperse at sea (a really bad plan???) and Leucosia communes with her astral boyfriend Space Mountains to calm down. They muster up the energy to get back to Lin’s cart only to find it destroyed and overgrown with plague mushrooms. Lin himself is ok but describes being attacked by a walking Helena as well as Sunny. Jeanne stays behind, drained, while Leucosia follows their trail of blossoming footprints back to the city to a warehouse choked, again, with flowering bodies, and an open trapdoor into the kobold tunnels where the trail dies.
Meanwhile again...
Chanchala levitates up the cliffs to the quarantined Old City while Sawbones scales the face with Guilotte clinging to her back. They’re here to investigate the whereabouts of the terrorist and traitor Albertine Rosenbee, but don’t know what to expect on the ground. The only intel they have is that Albertine is difficult to track, but that her twin brother, Erasmus, was stranded there when the bridges went down. They’re soon met with resistance from armed guards claiming to serve the “Bonnie Prince.” Guilotte impetuously uses her sonic boom thing, wounding and annoying Chanchala in the process. The guards have a strange currency in their pockets, marked with cheerful symbols instead of numbers. They proceed further inland and stop at a tavern, where they split up to gather information. Guilotte discovers that the island is split into three zones belonging to the Duchess, the Duke, and the Prince, with the Prince serving as a peace broker and mediator between the more bellicose Duchess and Duke. He’s a friendly ruler who regularly walks the streets to see who needs help, but also received petitioners from his “palace.” Chanchala discovers that the so-called Duke is the former Gentle Guild sergeant Caowulf Cutty, who with a stranded regiment of Guild officers has set up a brutal but secure zone where he distributes meat of unknown and sinister provenance.
With this knowledge in hand, they come up with cover identities-- Woozy Winkums, a seller of pornography, and Barbara, a liason for the Egg Babies. Sawbones is their troubled child, Toffee. Eventually the trio reaches the palace, which is separated from the mainland, the old Adavispa factory compound. A long line is coiling around waiting to take the ferry over, but Chanchala flies away, Sawbones just walks through the water, and Guilotte sweet-talks her way to the front. Within the compound, they see undead humans seemingly peacefully and happily going about their business, helping petitioners from the Old City carry gifts of food and drink and supplies back to the ferries. Despite the overall squalor and doom of Old Eigreska, the factory town is relatively cheery,decorated with motivational posters and paper garlands. They head into the palace where a modest banquet is set, poor-looking people eating bowls of soup and grains while Billy Adavispa at the head of the table sups on scraps, cheerfully pretending to slurp down soup while stretching out his meagre both. He looks happy but thin and weak, and greets them all happily. He and Guilotte walk along the elevated tracks of what was once the company tram-line discussing the situation and what each is working towards. He offers to deputize them as Billy Buddies to give them access to the Duchess’ territory, where Erasmus is located, in exchange for delivering a wagon of produce and sweets to the quarantined people there. The deal is struck and everybody parts ways.
The Duchess’ zone is gaudily decorated with paper lanterns and streamers of red paper flowers, and is located in the neighborhoods which once housed a dynamic mix of immigrant and non-human communities-- even now, orcs, goblins, kobolds, and bugbears mingle wearily but peacefully in the streets with humans, gnomes, halflings, and half-elves. They split up once again as Sawbones peels off and heads away with a strange sense of purpose. Guilotte pursues and finds her locked in a staring contest with a peculiar mirror of Rumble Force’s Daedalus Anuria-- a lithe kroten body topped with a grotesquely oversized crystalline head. The kroten offers Guilotte a bouquet of colorful flowers and places a flower crown of similar make on Sawbones’ head before hopping off. Chanchala meets back up with them and reports an infuriating and annoying meeting with the Duchess, who sounds, to Guilotte, to be a similar personality type to Chanchala herself. The Duchess turns out to be Gniece Quoyn, a gnomish criminal who was once one of Ewer’s Lambs but escaped capture in the hubbub of the previous year. Her trademark golems are her muscle. However, Chanchala did leave the meeting with permission to conduct her business, as violent as it may get. She leads Guilotte to what was once a popular orc bar, the Goblin Marquette, which she says she once frequented in happier times. Inside she’s greeted familiarly by Aloysius and Bertolt, and the Cats are told to make themselves at home. However, Aloysius firmly tells them that they have no authority here, and are not to mess with or intimidate any of his guests or employees. Guilotte terrorizes him with her claw though until he gives in. He directs them to Erasmus’ quarters up the stairs.
He’s sitting there looking worse for the wear practicing for the night’s performance. As he turns, Guilotte notices that he’s already maimed-- two missing fingers, a missing eye, and a missing ear, which he explains were the result of his last interrogation by government thugs, overseen by Inquisitor Harrow after the attack on the Palace. He’s impatient with them and insists that he has no contact with his sister and that in general there’s no love lost between them. However Chanchala produces an ingenious and cruel torture method using the rings of empathy last seen shared by Mungo and Beatrice, and explains that one of such a pair is usually implanted in prisoners as dangerous and unpredictable as Albertine. She forces the other ring on Erasmus’ finger and Sawbones is directed to break his arm, and then Guilotte, showing her true colors, gleefully goes to town.
Skipping forward half an hour, an exhausted and terrified Erasmus finally cracks and reveals that he’d been contacted by Albertine months ago, looking to move some dangerous goods to an ally of hers. She’d heard through the grapevine about Erasmus’ proximity to smugglers and criminals, and how he himself had fenced several trinkets which he stole out of spite from the palace on his way out, including gifts from Prince Ethbart. He insists that he refused her help. Guilotte brandishes her dagger again and he doubles down, sobbing that he doesn’t know where his sister is, but if they promise to stop he’ll give them an even sweet prize-- a halfling traitor, renegage Starry Messenger, and wizard named Tavi Feathers, who had approached him about helping shuttle halflings in danger on the mainland to relative safety here. He’d turned her down gently but left the door open for broaching the subject with Aloysius or the Duchess. He hurriedly contacts her by sending stone and sets up a time and place to meet. Satisfied, Chanchala gives Guilotte an ominous nod and the tiefling advances with her knife a final time...
Erstwhile...
Flinty wakes up in the lavish Crystal Cats infirmary with Panther waking soon after. She’s worked up about Francis and panicking, and Panther attempts to calm her down. They share a smoke and Panther explains her philosophy of providing people respite, and that as adventurers they deserve to be able to enjoy their lives occasionally. She thinks Flinty should still go to prom, but promises that the next day they’ll begin, in earnest, a joint operation between their respective parties to find out what’s up with Francis and the Crown (top priority after curing the plague). Flinty gets her gear back, Fiz is all patched up, and they head down for breakfast with the other Crystal Cats. Well as you can imagine there’s a lot of information flying around but eventually they agree on Panther’s proposal. However, Panther is shaken by some of what she hears-- including Helena’s fate, the deception she was victim to, and the excesses of Chanchala’s leadership (although Chanchala and Guilotte heavily censor their antics).
As the conversation shifts to prom, Flinty takes a moment with Sawbones, who is largely unresponsive but eventually meets Flinty’s sorrowful and kind words with a gentle touch of the cheek. Everybody finds out Flinty is going to prom with the mysterious Carlos Empanadas and loses their shit. In a hideous slurry of emotions Flinty heads out, picks up her fancy new armor from Grant Woolf, and finally returns home.

Let's start from the top. TW: abuse
Well, writing is allegedly therapeutic. I have been very depressed lately and feeling sorry for myself. I want to reach out and talk about it, but I find it really hard to. I'm sorry if this blog is a mess and my writing sucks, but ultimately I am doing this for myself and my healing. I want to go over and review my life as I remember it while I still can. I'll explain later, if anyone reads this.
I was born in 1992, the youngest out of two kids. My brother is 4 years older than me. There's not a lot to unpack here, but my earliest memories include being in a stroller pushed by my mom on family walks. We lived in a trailor near the railroad tracks. I remember my family from out of state visiting once, and riding with my cousins and eating twizzlers in the back of my grandpa's hatchback. I remember my first pair of real undies after I was potty trained. I remember going to parent teacher conferences for my brother and slipping out of my dads grasp and playing on the playground, til I of course was caught, and promptly punished. I feel like my early life until I was about 3 was generally normal and wholesome.
3 was a pivotal year for me. In May of 1996, my mom was sick. I was taking a bath and I heard a thump from my parents room. In hindsight, it's kind of weird to me to let a 3 year old bathe herself, but, I know I was a headstrong, precocious child. I wrapped myself in a towel and went to investigate. I left little wet footprints through the house until I got to my parent's bathroom, where I saw my mom, still and purple and nude, laying on the floor. This was weird. I told my dad, and he cried out and made a phone call. I still remember the flashes of red and blue lights flooding into the trailor from what seemed like all directions. A nice lady police officer helped me get dressed, since I was still wrapped in a towel, and I remember thinking how nice she was. She stayed with me until my grandma came and picked me and my brother up.
My mom was dead.
I feel like my whole life and all it's tragedies stemmed from this trauma, because things spiralled from there.
After my mom passed, my brother and I spent the majority of our time at my great grandmother's house, where she, her daughter (my grandma) and my uncle lived. I loved my great grandmother, who I will refer to as GG from here on. GG was in an accident as a teenager and had lost her right arm, but she managed to do everything wonderfully. Her handwriting was beautiful, she managed to crochet, and we played cards all the time. GG was my best friend, and I loved her more than you could imagine. She was a little lady, but so strong. She grew up on a farm during the depression and had 10 siblings. She was modest and principled.
Now, you should know that I was the first girl born in my family since my mother, who was 28 when she passed. I had a ton of boy cousins, and I had my brother. I didnt really have girls to play with in the family, so I spent most of my time either playing cards with GG, or trying to keep up with the boys.
Enter my future step mother. My father met her at work, and they began dating. My father took us to her church, where people spoke in tongues and I felt very uncomfortable. I made a couple of friends there though, but became really attached to an older girl who treated me like a little sister.
Content Warning: Abuse
After my father married my step mother, there were some changes. I was expected to call her "mom". I was expected to dress like a girl. I was taken out of dance class, because dancing was sinful and sexual, according to my stepmother. I was to be quieter. Smaller. I used to crawl in bed at night with my dad because I had very bad dreams almost nightly, and was made to stop. Since I couldn't do that, I crawled in bed with my big brother whenever i had bad dreams and he would tell me stories, and we would look at the glow in the dark star stickers on his ceiling until I fell asleep. When my step mom found out, she was furious. Keep in mind at this time I was 5 and my brother was 9. She would often punish my brother by sending him to his room with no dinner, not even letting him leave the room to use the toilet. She threw away toys that my mom had given me, including a stuffed black and white cat that was the same as the one that my mother was buried with. She would start fights with my grandma and my GG, and threaten not to let them see us, and we were not allowed to tell them what was going on at our house. Grandma and GG had their suspicions, and began building a case to take custody of us, as they could tell we were being abused by my stepmother and that my father was doing nothing about it.
The abuse lasted 2 years. But not because my father divorced her. Not because my grandma and GG got custody. I was 7 years old when the cops knocked on our door to take my dad to jail for molesting two girls at my stepmother's church. She was gone at the time, and they allowed my father to call my grandma to pick us up again, and the cops waited til we were gone to put my dad in cuffs. We never saw my stepmother again, however to this day, she and my father are legally married. I was told that she gave up all claim to us and went about her life. Guardianship over myself and my brother was granted to my grandma while my dad served his time in prison.
I wish I could tell you that from there on, I was a happy kid. But I wasn't. For as long as I can remember I have always had a bubbly, cheery disposition but in private, I have always been melancholy and forlorn. I missed my mom. I missed my dad. Weirdly, I missed my stepmother, too.
I still had nightmares, too, but I could crawl in my GG's bed and she would turn on cartoons and let me cuddle with her til I could go back to sleep. Sometimes I would do it when I didn't have nightmares either. I loved her.
I'll end it here for now to pick up later. If you stumble across this, reader, and you have suffered similar trauma, I encourage you to write it out too. This has been hard, but very necessary. I'm crying, but this is cathartic. Have a lovely day.

Dr. Theresa Greene, an emergency room doctor in Miami, Florida, does not know the next time she’ll be able to see her 4-year-old daughter in person — and it’s because she is currently among the front line workers against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
During a FaceTime session with her daughter on Friday afternoon, Theresa told her, “I hope you can come home soon.”
“What do you mean?” the 4-year-old asked. “Aren’t I coming home?”
Theresa’s daughter is currently living with her ex-husband, Eric Greene, who was granted temporary sole custody of their daughter on April 9 after arguing in court that Theresa is exposing the child to COVID-19 after treating patients.
It’s been four days since then, and Theresa tells PEOPLE that she’s afraid her daughter is going to think she deserted her.
“I just fear that she’s going to think I abandoned her,” the doctor tells PEOPLE. “And that’s really, really hard for me.”

Before hanging up with her daughter on Friday, Theresa says, “she was playing with her animal friends and she told me her cat was mad at me. And I’ve seen her do that before, she uses transference like that, while she talks to her animals.”
“I was like ‘oh, child, you’re breaking my heart.’”
But the idea that Theresa could easily expose her daughter to COVID-19 simply by virtue of working in the emergency room is a flawed one, her attorney Steven Nullman tells PEOPLE.
“This concern that Dr. Greene would come home and she would have all of that exposure, theoretically as they allege, on her and on her clothes and what have you, it’s not reality,” he says. “Because what would happen is she would be working one day, come home, her daughter would be with father… and then on the days that she had her child, she wasn’t working.”
Theresa tells PEOPLE that she uses “all the precautions at work,” and immediately cleans everything when she returns home from a shift.
“When I come home, I take off my clothes outside, leave everything outside, it goes right in the washer, wash it on high, and I get in the shower,” she explains. “I actually am very paranoid and very careful — like if I touch the doorknob I go back and I Lysol that.”
While Theresa and Eric have been divorced for nearly two years and shared joint custody of their daughter in that time, Eric was granted sole custody of the 4-year-old on April 9 until further notice.
The suspension of Theresa’s timesharing is “solely related to the outbreak of COVID-19,” and she is entitled to communicate daily with her daughter via Skype, FaceTime, or telephone, according to a copy of Judge Bernard Shapiro’s ruling obtained by PEOPLE.
RELATED VIDEO: Grandfather Reads To Granddaughter Through Window
“The court does not enter this ruling lightly, but given the pandemic in the state of Florida and the recent increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases, the court finds in order to insulate and protect the best interests and health of the minor child, this order must be entered on a temporary basis,” the ruling says.
However, because there is no way to know how long the COVID-19 pandemic will last, there is no way for Theresa to know when she will be allowed to see her daughter in person again.
Theresa is appealing the custody order, saying that there is a “prejudice” against her because she is not married.
“Most of my coworkers have children that they go home to,” she says. “No one is calling CPS on them and saying, ‘you’re exposing your child to a deadly illness.'”
“No one is actually acting to protect the children of people who are married, and no one is asking them to sacrifice their jobs,” she adds.
Nullman adds to PEOPLE that the “court made the ruling without taking any evidence or hearing from anybody who is qualified to give an opinion to the court as to whether or not children — or parents who work in the medical field and those children are more exposed than people who work in a grocery store or other type places.”
“Those people are not being asked to give up their children,” he says.
Eric’s attorney Paul Leinoff tells PEOPLE in a statement that they both have the “upmost respect” for Theresa’s “commitment to her critical work during this pandemic.”
RELATED: Washington Mom Battling Coronavirus Gave Birth to Daughter while in Medically Induced Coma
“We recognize and genuinely appreciate the sacrifices that she and all healthcare workers are all currently making to save lives and prevent further illness in Florida and around the world,” Leinoff’s statement says. “The Greenes’ temporary timesharing dispute was presented before the Court based upon the specific facts of this individual family and a decision was reached based upon the best interests and safety of a minor child, limited to the temporary circumstances presented by COVID-19.”
Leinoff added that the ruling in the Greenes’ case “was not intended to serve as a blanket rule, nor should it,” and that Theresa will be able to make up her lost time with her daughter once the pandemic is over.
“Pursuant to Mr. Greene’s request and as ordered by the Court, Dr. Greene is to be provided future make-up timesharing for each day missed during this challenging time and daily video communication with the child,” Leinoff says. “We will continue to pursue ways to resolve this delicate situation and believe that a result can be achieved safely and fairly.”
Theresa and Nullman tell PEOPLE that she is currently owed four days of make-up timesharing, but hope that custody rules of the daughter can return to normal soon.
“I just want to say that I love my daughter more than anything, and that’s why I’m fighting this battle,” Theresa tells PEOPLE.
“It’s become bigger than me too, in setting a precedent, and I need to do this for other people who are frontline workers in this situation and to fight what I believe is injustice,” she adds.
“I hope I have my kid back soon.”
As of Monday, there are at least 20,593 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Florida, with 469 deaths related to the virus. Nationwide, there are at least 571,694 confirmed cases and 23,036 related deaths.

DC TV Shows on the CW Recap for 5/15-5/17
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This week, Supergirl has to decide whether she is going to follow the President's orders after Rhea's attack, meanwhile Cat Grant returns to National City. Barry decides to do whatever he can to save Iris, as time winds down to her eventual murder by Savitar. On Arrow, Black Siren shows up to help Adrian Chase, meanwhile Felicity tries to throw a birthday party for Oliver, and Quentin is angry with Rene for missing his custody hearing.
Important Things to Know This Week:
The big thing that happened in Supergirl was Rhea using her partnership with Lena to allow the Daxamites to come to earth in order to take it over. Another thing that could come as a result of that though, is Lena learning about Supergirl's identity. She knew what Mon-El looked like, and that he is with Kara, now she's seen them fight together against Rhea. Last week, Barry learned even more about Savitar, and the team hit another dead-end in trying to stop Savitar's plans. With little time left, the team is running out of options entirely. They have to find a solution, and they need to do it quickly. Adrian Chase was captured last week, but we can't really expect that to be the end of his story. Something is going to happen to bring Oliver out into the open. Meanwhile, in the Flashbacks, Konstantin attacked Oliver, making his wait on Lian Yu a little more interesting.
The Biggest Moments This Week (Spoilers!):
Supergirl: (S2 E21: Resist)
The opening of the episode is intense. Mon-El and Lena are prisoners on Rhea's ship, and being forced into marriage. The Daxamites are attacking everyone, and James and Maggie have to fight through it. The DEO is attacked, and Winn and Alex barely make it out. Meanwhile J'onn is incapacitated after being attacked by Rhea. As if everything wasn't already messed up, Lillian Luthor shows up wanting to help. I love the scene where the President and Cat Grant communicate with Rhea to explain to her that she isn't going to be able to just take over Earth, and that people will fight back. I totally forgot how much Cat added to this show, but after just a few scenes, I wish she had been here the whole season. Unfortunately, this also leads to the President ordering that they destroy Rhea's ship, completely disregarding the fact that there are innocent people up there. We do get a great Cat Grant motivational speech because of it, though. Then we get another one, which prompts the whole city to fight back. On Rhea's ship, Mon-El and Lena are trying to make a stand against Rhea by refusing to follow her demands for them to get married. Meanwhile, Supergirl has decided to work with Cadmus in order to save Mon-El and Lena. Their plan is pretty complex, and, if it goes wrong, they could all die. Of course, Lillian has a secondary plan to kill Supergirl and Mon-El in the process.
The Flash: (S3 E22: Infantino Street)
With just 24 hours to Iris' death, the team is working on finding a solution, but they also realize that time is running out. They reach out to Lyla, who has a piece of Dominators technology that would be able to power the "Speedforce Bazooka" to trap Savitar. Lyla refuses to give it to Barry on the basis of not trusting him, which is honestly ridiculous after the last few weeks of Arrow. As a result, Barry decides to steal it, and goes back in time to get help from Leonard Snart. Savitar and Killer Frost are also gearing up for the night as well. This includes an eerie conversation where they debate the readiness level for being able to kill Iris. Savitar seems to be cocky about the outcome of the night, but that could end up being his downfall. Meanwhile, Joe and Wally take Iris to Earth-2 to hide out with Harry, while Barry and Snart infiltrate ARGUS. Stealing from ARGUS turns out to be more difficult than they probably expected. First, Barry needs to take out some guards when his Lyla disguise fails to work. Then, Snart's skills become essential to unlocking the room holding the Dominators tech. Finally, they have to deal with King Shark guarding the technology. When they actually get to it, Barry gets out, but Snart ends up trapped in the room. Cisco is able to save him, but then Lyla shows up. His choice to save Snart convinces Lyla to give him to technology he asked for. After all of that, though, Savitar tricks the team into telling him where Iris is, and he goes to Earth-2, takes down Wally, and kidnaps Iris.
Arrow: (S5 E22: Missing)
After Oliver's party, Curtis goes to bring some new tech to Dinah. When he gets there, though, he finds her apartment trashed, and then he gets attacked and kidnapped. Now Curtis, Dinah, and Rene are all missing, and the only evidence is weaponry that suggests Talia Al-Ghul is involved. Oliver sends Thea and Quentin to a safe house, but Black Siren and Evelyn Sharp show up to take them as well. Felicity and Diggle then get taken by Talia, and her followers. This leaves Oliver on his own, with everyone he loves or cares for in danger. Oliver, meanwhile, is doing everything he can to try to find a way to save the people around him. Chase gives him an ultimatum that would save the people around him, but only if he lets Chase go. Malcolm Merlyn shows up to help Oliver, and he tries to convince him to give in to Chase' demands. Merlyn's story is a direct parallel to the Supergirl episode this week. He's willing to help the hero, only to save his daughter, like Lillian Luthor. He also talks to Oliver about human connections being the most important thing, just as Cat Grant did with Supergirl. Throughout the episode, we see a flashback to Oliver's last bit of time on Lian Yu. Konstantin tortures him, and gives him a psychoactive drug that causes him to hallucinate about some of the people he lost during the five years that he was away from home. He has to fight through it in order to be able to save himself, beat Konstantin, and make it back home. Coincidentally, his present day journey has brought him to Lian Yu to face off with Chase.
Overall:
The "Speedforce Bazooka" fails because Savitar has the Philosopher's Stone. After all of their efforts, the team fails, and Savitar kills Iris. There is definitely a possibility that they will find a way to save Iris, but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't. There hasn't been a death this significant in the Arrowverse yet, but it would be a big moment for these shows, and for the Flash specifically. Whatever happens, this moment will be very significant moving forward.
Ryan’s Speculation of the week:
At the end of Arrow, Oliver let's Chase go, in order to save his son. Chase then takes Oliver's team to Lian Yu. Oliver follows behind, bringing Malcolm Merlyn and Nyssa Al-Ghul along. He also enlists the help of Slade Wilson as the episode ends. The clash in the season finale will be really awesome, but I could see it leading to a lot of future trouble for Oliver and the team, if any of these dangerous people end up making it off of Lian Yu, and back to Star City.   Supergirl airs on Mondays, The Flash airs on Tuesdays, and Arrow airs on Wednesdays on the CW. Leave a comment and let me know what you thought about this week's slate of episodes. Couples Dance – Part 4 of 4 BeLoved Miracles Interviews Darren Little
How To Do Miracles?
I don’t know how to do miracles, I just know when we need one.  It’s that simple.
Tumblr media
This 4th part to the lengthy interview with Darren Little brings me full-circle back to my own personal and once held private experiences.  The seeds of which have sprouted today to become BeLoved Miracles.
Darren has tapped for me on a most precious day of the year to me (This interview was recorded on my birthday of all days! :-) ) the driver behind “The BeLoved Miracles Couples Project.”  BeLoved Miracles exists because it is a media company.
My calling is to broadcast these stories of inspiration to couples.  WHY?  Because at a critical point in time for me and my family, I desperately needed to hear this.  I couldn’t find it anywhere, and I looked everywhere.
What Darren does for me in this portion of the interview has ADDED TO MY ABILITY TO DO MY LIFE’S WORK…
Tumblr media
It is exactly as he has detailed it.  THERE IS A CRISIS POINT, always a crisis point.  Such that we sooner or later must find a way to together overcome the crisis points, which my wife and me call BeLoved Miracles.
What we have TAPPED INTO TODAY has opened something which is not going to close now.  Thank God for that! <3
Part 1 can be found here:  https://youtu.be/smSh7j3MnAU
Part 2 can be found here:  https://youtu.be/ddUo7Tl231M
Part 3 can be found here:  https://youtu.be/cfktxvOaKXg
Here you can enjoy the profound insights given and received in Part 4 of 4 with Darren Little…
Tumblr media
Interview Highlights:
00:08  Darren went from ZERO TO $135,000 IN THIRTY DAYS and then he _____________ he was going to take off for Manila for a couple months.
00:31  THEN WHACK!!!  Flagging a cab while pulling his suitcase the sidewalk suddenly dropped 8 inches, he jammed his leg, popped one of his vertebrae and severely herniated a disc in his back to the point of needing to go to the hospital for almost a month for…
1:27  LUCKY FOR DARREN he understands how the game _________ so it didn’t have the same type of impact upon him as it would for most people. So he kinda WENT WITH THE FLOW and it wasn’t a bigger deal than it needed to be.
2:01  During the____________ that he was in the hospital he was DOING WEBINARS FROM HIS HOSPITAL BED.  And he still had a $25,000 month.
2:15  Darren got a A BIG OLD  ________ of PATIENCE.
2:21  You just have to ________ to yourself, “What if…”  THIS IS IN MY HIGHER GOOD?  When people are going through the tragedy in their life, “WHAT IF…this is in my higher good?”
2:49  When Darren went past 1 million and then 4 million and then 10 million…he was on the _________ to becoming a Billionaire.  THEN WHACK!!! He got into a custody battle.  Spending half a million dollars fighting for his boy.  It was a really major test.
3:15  He went from thinking that he would never, ever have to worry about making money again, always have a MILLION DOLLARS CASH LIQUID to losing everything and having to ____________ back home and live with his parents because his system started to completely shut down from the stress.  HUMBLING EXPERIENCE!
4:03  If he had never gone through that, he would have never been given Unleash The Alpha Within from the universe.  That WAS DOWNLOADED TO HIM on the path of loosing it all and as close to what he would think of as what dealing with the _________ would be like.  Which was his son’s mother.
4:37  It ______________ him to realms that he didn’t even know existed, yet because of that came this magical thing that he can actually live his life’s purpose with.  Because that’s now his life purpose.  Taking people from such a state themselves TO THE NEXT LEVEL.
5:13  It would never have been __________ to him, so now he has to look at it IN GRATITUDE.
5:33  Himself and his son’s mother do not have any _____________________ at all today, she is remarried and in a relationship with this doctor.  But Darren has a GREAT RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS SON.  It’s a magical relationship that he is so grateful for today.
Tumblr media
6:09  This is WHY WE CALL IT BELOVED MIRACLES.  This is why my life’s ________ , my life’s mission has brought you and I together.  This is the real story of a couples dance.
7:39  I might think that I am trying to ___________ this with my head, yet it is in this realm where the HEART SPEAKS WITH WORDS THE MIND KNOWS NOTHING OF.
7:47  It’s ONLY WITH THE HEART that one sees rightly.  That’s really the truth, that’s the naked soul. The journey is to the naked soul.  You want to make multiple 7 figures, you have to take the ______________ inward to the naked soul.  It takes courage, it takes bravery.  You have to be willing to take that surrender and trust that there is a HIGHER PURPOSE.
8:37  If you don’t MAKE THE SURRENDER, and love yourself it’s not _______________ to go to the next level.
8:54  I PRAYED FOR MY BELOVED, I didn’t even know what I asked for, yet God gave me an _________________ to receive it.
9:05  Beloved, you have to put a little ___________ in between the Be and the Loved.  Rather than something to find outside of myself, it was really ABOUT SURRENDERING because I had to progress onto a new level of just allowing myself to BE LOVED.  That’s BeLoved Miracles.
9:39  Not one of the over 40 or more interviews we have done here now have has TAPPED something that we have ___________ here Darren.  I am beyond words with GRATITUDE.
10:11  None of us would be here, PHYSICALLY MANIFESTED AS A HUMAN BEING without this ____________ of the couple.
10:27  For each of us, becoming NEW FATHERS within months led to a split of the couple which gave __________ to new life.  For Darren, it didn’t matter what he brought to the court.  It just didn’t seem to matter.
10:57  Court settlement had been made and the ______________ was carried out for a period of time, and then HE AND HIS MOM DISAPPEARED jumping the boarder, they just vanished.  He didn’t see his son for two years.
11:11  This was by far the most challenging ________________ that Darren had ever gone through in his entire life.  He started having OUT OF BODY EXPERIENCES.
11:47  It all allowed him to TUNE IN FURTHER to the matrix because he realised he could actually _____________ with his son without seeing him because…
12:17  Darren has this SPECIAL TREE he used to go to in Stanley Park.  A little area in the forest where there is like a little _____________ with this one special tree.  It has this really special design on it, it’s magical, it just so different.
12:39  He got a call from one of his students who was very into QUANTUM STUFF.  This student of Darren’s was supposed to _________ Darren a phone call to deliver a message.  We are supposed to go to some tree.
13:59  Together with some sacred items they __________ to THE TREE, a cat crosses their path and a voice calling out spooks them saying, “Whose there!?”  They responded, “We are here to see the tree!”
14:37  At the tree they ________ a full tent set up and an Indian SHAMAN ON SITE waiting for them.  He got the message to set up the camp site.
>>> Free Ebook For Couples <<<
15:13  They ended up doing an 11 DAY CEREMONY.  Calling to an eagle, which on about 7 of the 11 nights came to the ________ where they were and you could hear it calling out with it’s really high pitch screetch.
16:57  2 WEEKS AFTER THAT Darren finally got a hold of his son.  “Hey Drason it’s dad calling, I’ve got this __________ to tell you.”  His son at 3-4 years old said, “I know, the eagle came and I was scared.”  It was unbelievable!
17:33  What people don’t realise about the SPIRITUAL REALM is that we can communicate.  If you are in a _______________ where you are a long way away from someone you love and you are missing them, know that you can make a connection with them on a way deeper level than you can face-to-face.
18:17  Now how would Darren have ever GOTTEN THAT GIFT if he hadn’t have gone through the Sh_t!?  That skill would never have been developed and they would not have the type of connection that they have today in their relationship if Darren had not gone through that pain.
18:35  There are a lot of GIFTS which people take for granted that come from people going through their trials and tribulations.  You don’t realise it until you are on the other _______ looking back.
18:47  GRATITUDE (This interview was recorded on my 51st birthday)
Because Together, We Overcome is now transitioning into Because Together, We Co-Create.  We accomplish more ________________ .
19:41  How can we also impact those 12-15 year olds THROUGH THE COUPLES?  Through the power of co-creation which is the actual power of manifesting these physical forms which we think we are.
20:07  A GOAL is something that dangles off in the ___________ .  An INTENTION is a goal with E-MOTION!  So you have forward movement when it becomes an intention.
20:43  It already happens on its own, YOU JUST HAVE TO SURRENDER.  You have to get so emotionally connected to your intention and walk ______________ in complete blind faith expecting that it’s going to show up on its own, and then it does.
21:03  THE CHALLENGE is mastering your thoughts, words and emotions.  Keep in ________ you are going to battle the human condition the whole time.
21:11  THE HUMAN CONDITION wants to take you down, that’s self sabotage because…
21:17  If Darren takes someone from zero to $45,000 in thirty days, most of the time THEY IMPLODE.  They can’t handle it, so they start spending money like water, they step into their E-Go, then they sabotage their whole success.  Darren has seen it happen countless times over thirty years.
21:43  Before beginning Darren EDUCATES PEOPLE in the process.  “Here is what is going to happen, you are going to go from here to _______ , then you are going to get this universal test.”
Tumblr media
21:51  Now you either are going to BECOME A HUMBLE SERVANT LEADER or you are going to become your E-Go.  If you become your E-Go -  (Imploding sound) the whole thing blows up and you get sent back to level one.
22:01  There is a _____________ in this as well to PRE-FRAME THROUGH THE PROCESS, but it really comes down to setting your intention.
22:13  Back to the 12-15 year olds, it just morphs.  It’s like the morphing from the ROCK TO THE SPONGE, it does it on its own.  If you can surrender, if you can’t surrender, bummer for you.  Because you are going to _____________ some more.  That’s what it really comes down to.
22:35  Some people, THEY CAN’T BE HELPED.  Because they are so ingrained in victimhood that they will not budge.  It’s not until they reach their breaking point, their F__k it moment that things will ____________ for them.
23:17  “Similar to losing your son?” I ask.  “Yes” says Darren.  SENILITY was my experience of going through a _________ like this.
23:33  The WORD SENILITY is a word from Leonard Orr’s work around overcoming what he refers to as “The Death Urge.”
24:07  Darren has tapped for me THE DRIVER BEHIND “The BeLoved Miracles Couples Project.”  BeLoved Miracles exists because it is a media company.
24:17  MY CALLING is to broadcast these stories of inspiration to couples.  WHY?  Because I desperately needed to hear this.  I couldn’t find it anywhere, and I looked everywhere.
24:31  Darren what you have done today is you’ve ADDED TO MY ABILITY TO DO MY LIFE’S WORK…
24:38  It is exactly the way you have detailed it.  THERE IS A CRISIS POINT, always a crisis point. Such that we sooner or later must find a way to together overcome the crisis points, which we call BeLoved Miracles.
24:53  I don’t know HOW TO DO MIRACLES, I just know when we need one.  It’s that simple.
25:03  In our case, my wife has had a CHRONIC ILLNESS so it even was a BeLoved Miracle that we could have a child.  This was an uncertainty that we had to step into and we overcame etc. etc. etc.
25:23  What we have TAPPED INTO TODAY has opened something which is not going to close now.

Excerpt from "Platitudes of Gratitude" releasing March 20 Day 8 - What place are you grateful for? They’re all asleep. The girls are all home including Dannie who’s on Thanksgiving break. Hayhay is off next week. I homeschhool the Bunny so the only day off she gets is Thanksgiving. Even then cooking is learning so you better believe I'll have her in the kitchen working. She'll make rolls, mashed potatoes, cranberry relish with orange garnish, and a turducken. Learning never stops. I have a feeling the girls will stay with the others when Thanksgiving actually rolls around. I have mixed feelings on that. I’ve always tried to keep some form of relationship between Bunny and the Ex going. I just don’t see how her staying in the house by herself will help that. I suppose Hayhay’s mom may be working nights and home during the day, but the lady has to sleep sometime. There’s another reason I think; it may be I actually enjoy my children and like having them home with me. Don’t get me wrong, we definitely have moments of, “Oh my Gods, I’m going to duct tape you to the ceiling fan, turn it on high speed, and use you as a pinata.” One day my girls were arguing, screaming, and bordering on World War 3. Short Blonde Daughter had taken (borrowed is what she called it) Tall Brunette Daughter's favorite shirt. She had committed the most egregious error against a sibling ever recorded: taking without asking. "What do you want me to do about it?" I asked. "Can you get a firing squad?" "No. That's a bit extreme, don't you think?" "No, it's totally reasonable. Besides, you'll want worse when you see what she did to your skirt?" "Whoa, wait, what did she do to my skirt?" "Go look." Five minutes later I was holding the shreds of my favorite gauze skirt in one hand and dialing my Uncle Joey from Philly with the other. Plane tickets were too expensive for Skinny Joey, Fat Tony, and Johnny Toothpick. Joey Bagodonuts couldn't get time off at the cleaners. I love my kids. I hate when they’re not here, and I wish I could spend more time with them that wasn’t always brush your teeth, do your homework. No, you can’t get your nose pierced, stop painting the cats, put down the blowtorch, that's not how we make s'mores. I think it might be the reason we Love Walt Disney World so much. Our trip to Disney World in May 2014 was the first time we all felt like a family. I put tremendous care into the planning of this trip. I researched how to travel with a seven month old baby. The answer always came back the same. You don't. I looked into car games and portable snacks that wont make a mess. I made a Pinterest board with all these Martha Stewart-esque ideas. I went to the dollar store and bought games and tubs to keep snacks in. Everything looked so perfect once it was all set up and packed, then we got in the truck. We didn’t argue, much, or fight or yell. Every ten miles would I have to turn and tell someone to stop touching her, stop eating her snacks, stop using her markers, stop breathing her air, or stop looking out her window. The baby was the best behaved out of them all. Take that, Facebook mom groups. We lived, laughed, and loved on the way down. This was no easy feat fitting all six of us (one in a rear facing carseat) in a pickup truck. Yes, they say it seats six. What they don't tell you is don't expect to be able to cross your legs, take a deep breath, or turn your head without intruding on someone's personal space. Don't even get me started about the smell. Oh my gosh, I swear these children were eating dead skunks and beans at the rest stops. That is the only excuse for the smell and sounds emitted from their rear ends. "Babe, did we hit a family of skunks?" "No, I think Tall Brunette Daughter's butt exploded." "No way, it wasn't me." We must have picked up a new child. His name was "Not Me." Not me was responsible for every noxious odor released in that vehicle. He was also responsible for snoring, spilled drinks, and kicking my seat from Tennessee to Georgia. And speaking of rest stops, I think we must have visited one every twenty miles. Small Blonde Daughter has an input output ratio glitch in her kidney wiring. One ounce in. Ten ounces out. Again, input should not exceed output. Not in fluids or solids. But at the park itself and even the ride back, we got along not as a blended family but as just a regular family. I think the King saw it and recognized it for what it was: a bonding moment for our family. You would think the birth of the baby, or the King and I getting married, or any other number of things that happened to and for us before Disney would have helped stitch us together. Yeah, that’s a negative, ghost rider. Let me tell you why. My break up was a disaster, an unmitigated catastrophe of biblical proportions the likes I hope to never relive. I’m talking restraining orders, death threats, name calling, custody threats, Child Protection Services calls, animal control calls. You name it, it happened. No lawyer got involved because we were not actually married. Dodged a bullet there, am I right? The King’s actual divorce went a lot smoother than my pseudo divorce. Quick, easy, and cheap. Not painless. Divorces and breakups are never painless. There are victims. Unfortunately, it's usually the kids. Some handle it better than others. The Bunny was good at seeing the inherent flaws of my relationship with her father and realizing everyone is better off. That doesn't mean she did well with the abrupt change of our living situation. The Bunny didn’t handle that well at all, but that’s a topic for another day. Hayhay didn’t handle it well. I was the cause of her parents divorce. I became the bane of civilization, the causation of everything from paper cuts to cancer. I was the one who put razor blades in Halloween candy and made it hot on Easter so all the chocolate in the eggs melted. I was the one fairy tales were written about. I had become the Stepmother. I didn't realize how strong her disdain for me was until I saw the hand drawn wanted posters offering six gabillion dollars for my arrest. My crime? I put pineapple in the sweet and sour meatballs. Oh yes, children, run and hide! It’s the Wicked Witch of South Philadelphia. Things just haven't been the same for me since someone dropped that shoe truck on my sister. That was 2012. It’s been a long road. A long, winding, sometimes back tracking, beast of a road that made us walk uphill, both ways, barefoot, in four feet of snow, crawl through broken glass, and swim in a sea of lemon juice before coming to the plateau we are currently standing on. Would I do it all again? Hell yeah. I love the King and He loves me. I knew he was a package deal like I was. I love our son together and I wouldn’t trade this life for anything. It’s taught me how far I’ve come and that I’m like spider web, way stronger than you’d expect and tougher than I look. That’s where our Disney trip comes in. My parents paid to meet my new family when in reality I was still learning who we were as individuals and as a family unit. I worried because I didn’t know how they would all react to and receive each other. They were not particularly fond of the last one. I think the exact words were, "If I never hear or see him again I would be okay with that." Wish granted, Dad. I was still worried until we got home. Yes, Mom and Dad said they liked everyone. Yes, Mom and Dad said they like the King. Yes, Mom and Dad said I looked happier. It wasn’t until I saw a post on Facebook that my mom wrote that I felt like we had finally made it being a family. She talked about meeting a good friend, an old friend she had not seen in a while, down at Disney. When we are at Disney I tend to spend as much time as possible with my parents. I even wake up at four in the morning just to have coffee with them. I was confused who my mother was talking about. I didn't remember seeing anyone down there. This friend, she said, had grown up a little, but was still the person she had been years ago. Even though the woman had disappeared for some time she was now back and as amazing as ever. The woman had a lovely family and a wonderful husband and was happier than she had been in a long time. My mother was so happy to have found this woman again. So much so she said, “She’s the type of woman I want to be. I’m so happy to know she’s my daughter. ” It's OK to cry. I did. I'm crying typing it. That’s when it hit me. It was that moment that I knew the hard work paid off. No one could tell we were a mixed family. No yours, mine, and ours. No one cared. We were a family like everyone else at Disney World: curbing I want syndrome and pointing outprincesses, talking about rides and what does everyone want on their pizza, and taming tantrums. I made decisions for our children, not just Baby T. Rex or The Bunny. I didn’t say, “Ask your dad,” or “I’ll have to ask your dad.” There were no major arguments or fits or tears, well until we left but that’s me and my dad. That’s another story for another day. What can you take from this would be don’t give up. Step mom, birth mom, adopted mom, grandma raising the grandkids, whoever, it’s worth it. It really, truly is. Yes, it’s hard and you’ll want to run away and join the Renaissance Faire (which I did in my younger days. Forget the circus. That was too mundane for me). When they come home holding a report card of A’s and B’s because you helped and they know it, you know it's going to be OK. When you’re looking up St. Patrick’s Day hairstyles so she’ll stand out in class and she appreciates it, you know it's going to be OK. I'll never forget riding next to them on Tower of Terror and the look they got right before your we fell faster than the speed of gravity, thirteen floors straight down. That sticks in your head and replays in your dreams. That’s when you know it’s all going to be OK. My mom had that moment when she saw her daughter being the mom. Hey, Ma, I learned it by watching you. Thanks for doing the hard things and not giving up. Love you. For that I am grateful. So, as cheesy as it may sound, the place I'm most grateful for is Walt Disney World. Not just because it provides an escape from all things adult and gives me ample opportunities to embarrass my kids on Facebook. Yes, I am that mother that still hugs Tigger and bounces with him. And you better believe I buy each ride photo available. It's not often I'm in front of the camera. Most family photos do not include me so I take every chance I get to have all six of us in a picture together. Everyone smiling at the same time is optional. In fact, when dealing with teenagers smiling in a photograph becomes as rare as unicorns farting rainbows that have pots of gold at the end of them. I am grateful for every picture I can get that doesn't have someone flipping off the camera or showing a mouthful of food. If you get the chance to take your family to the House of Mouse, I recommend it. I also think we should fly next time. Less chances of picking up Not Me and his noxious gas.
