could you write A belly being used as a pillow by a friend/partner. Even if they’re hanging out in a group with jamie and she/her reader please?
Who's idea it was to have a team movie night in the rec room of the hotel Jamie'll never know. Oh wait, yes he did. It was Sam Obisanya. He'd have to remember to kill him later.
But that's how they ended up, throwing the chairs and tables aside in order to make a giant pillow and blanket nest on the floor for the whole team to enjoy. The coaches sat in the back of the room, laughing fondly as the boys got comfortable. Jamie found his spot near the back of the group, Laying on the ground with a pillow propping up his head.
That's when you came in. Jamie's best friend. Jamie's long time friend who he'd pined over since he met her. Rebecca's top assistant who knew what everyone wanted before they wanted it. Except the fact that Jamie wanted you more than anything else in the world.
You made eye contact with Jamie and sent him a wave as you made your way in his direction. Jamie felt butterflies fluttering around his stomach as you smiled at him.
"Alright, what's the movie tonight?" You asked as you sat down on the floor next to him.
"Oh, uh..." Jamie tried to make it seem like he was looking anywhere but you. "I think Ted said something about Finding Nemo?"
"Finding Nemo? Does he want us all to cry?" You chuckled knowing that was exactly what they wanted.
The lights dimmed not long after, signifying the start of the movie. You shifted uncomfortably, trying find your seating but failing. He knew you had a bad back and hated sitting on the ground because it always hurt your lower back.
"Do you mind if I lay down?" You whispered to him. He shrugged, nodding and going to make room for you to lay next to him. What he didn't expect was for you to lay down on top of him. You used his stomach as a pillow, turning to face the screen, not even looking at him.
Jamie held his breath, holding as still as possible trying not to disrupt you. He carefully placed a hand on your waist, hoping it didn't disturb you. You didn't make any visual signs of discomfort from the feeling so Jamie kept his hand there.
He stayed still, as still as he could, not even watching the movie anymore. Just staring at you as you laid on him.
"Jamie, I can feel you looking at me." you whispered to him. You rolled over so you were facing him. He gazed down at you, still too afraid to even make a noise. You sat up in his lap, now staring at him eye to eye. You were so close to each other, noses just inches apart.
Jamie felt himself look down at your lips then back up again. You stared at him, a smile coming over your lips. You leaned in so your noses were touching, before murmuring, "Is this okay?"
Jamie nodded, bringing a hand up to cup the back of your neck and pulling you the rest of the way into him. You took a deep inhale as you kissed him back. Whatever was happening on the screen was lost to the two of you for the rest of the night. Jamie decided he'd have to find Sam and thank him later.

Now, look, this is a sad moment right here. For all of us. And there ain't nothing I can say, standing in front of you right now, that can take that away. But please do me this favor, will you? Lift your heads up and look around this locker room. Yeah? Look at everybody else in here. And I want you to be grateful that you're going through this sad moment with all these other folks. Because I promise you, there is something worse out there than being sad, and that is being alone and being sad. Ain't nobody in this room alone.

Birthday Wishes
Summary: Bucky wants to plan the best party ever for his young daughter
 Word Count: 2430
 Square Filled: Free Space
 Pairings: Singledad!Bucky x Female Reader/ Steve x Peggy
 Warnings: None really
 Written for @star-spangled-bingo
Ever since the mother to Bucky’s daughter passed away when she was a baby, he had been totally devoted to her and every year on her birthday, he went all out trying to make it the best one ever.
About a month ago, Tony’s daughter Morgan had a mermaid themed party; complete with a woman dressed as a mermaid. Bucky’s daughter Rebecca had totally raved about it and with her own birthday coming up, he made a note to take one of the business cards with him.
...
The moment Bucky walked into the building, he was in awe. The front of the store was full of costumes, dolls, plushies, pirate treasure chests, fairy wings and wands... every kind of fantasy item a child could possibly want and a lot of it looked handmade. Out the back, he could hear squealing and laughter. A party in progress, perhaps?
“Good afternoon, welcome to Childhood Dreams. How may I help you?” the receptionist asked.
“Hi. I’m looking to book a party? It’s for my daughter...”
“I see. Well, before booking a party, you’ll need to make an appointment with Y/N. She likes to customise her parties to the client. She’s currently doing a performance but if you’re happy to wait, she’ll be done soon...”
 “I can wait...”
 “Great. Follow me please...”
Bucky followed the receptionist into the back. There was a pirate party taking place with all the children dressed up as pirates. There were props and decorations keeping in tone with the theme and an incredible cake. On the stage up the front was the same woman who had played the part of the mermaid at Morgan’s party, this time she was a pirate, enacting a mighty swordfight with another actor. She really put her all into the performance.
Bucky watched her for a moment before the receptionist pulled him along and guided him to an office along the side. The inside of the office was just as cheerful and childlike as the rest of the place. The desk was lined with small trinkets. Along the walls were various photographs of the woman in different costumes. A princess, a fairy, a friendly witch... there was a costume for every occasion. Bucky was in the middle of admiring them when the door opened and the subject from the photos stepped in.
“You must be the gentleman wanting a party,” she smiled, taking off her hat and eye patch before sitting at her desk and encouraging him to take a seat. “I’m Y/N.”
“Yes, that’s right. My name is Bucky and I’m looking to do a birthday party for my daughter Rebecca,” he said, getting his phone out to show her a picture.
Y/N smiled at the photo of the little girl who was dressed as a princess.
“Tell me about Rebecca. I take it she’s a princess fan?”
Bucky’s face lit up as he spoke about his little girl. Everything that she loved about princesses and fairytales, down to her favourite colours, animals and mythical creatures.
 “I’m probably rambling now...”
“No, no, I think it’s sweet to see a father so dedicated to his daughter. Let me show you a few of our packages,” she smiled.
Y/N logged into her tablet to show him a few of the princess themed parties they offered. Bucky looked through the options before deciding on a fantasy type one with princesses, wizards and all things in that vein.
“Will you be having the party here or elsewhere?”
“I think home would be best... unless... here would be better? I don’t know...”
“Some children feel more comfortable on home base and some like going out. It’s really up to you. My job is to give your child the best possible experience...”
 Bucky nodded slowly and thought.
“She might like a party in her own backyard...”
“That’s totally fine. I’ll need to visit ahead of time just so I can work on a setup. Now, will you be providing your own cake? If not, I can recommend an excellent bakery.”
“A family friend agreed to make the cake,” Bucky replied.
Y/N nodded and jotted down a few notes.
 “What about food?”
“Yes, we’ll be making our own food too.”
Y/N nodded again and wrote down a few more notes. After agreeing on a price, a date and time to meet, his address and the date of the party, Bucky started heading out the door.
 “One more thing...”
Bucky turned to look at her.
“I like to ask our clients how they found out about our business...”
“A while ago, you threw a mermaid party for a friend of mine’s daughter. Rebecca couldn’t stop talking about it for days after that...”
 Y/N smiled fondly.
“I see... well, I guess I’ll see you when I come to do my inspection. Goodbye, Bucky.”
 “Bye.”
As Bucky left the office, he could feel his heart fluttering like it hadn’t done in a long time. Ever since his wife’s passing, Bucky hadn’t even looked at another woman. Well, he had looked but he had always been so busy taking care of Rebecca, he didn’t really have time to be pursuing women. Sure on occasion, he would go on a blind date now and then and Steve would babysit but that would be the extent of it. Bucky thought for sure his dating life was over but talking to Y/N just now... it gave him a lot of hope.
...
Time went by and eventually the day arrived when you went to meet Bucky at his place. Bucky greeted you at the door with a smile and ushered you inside. Smiling, you looked around the place. Pictures of Bucky’s life lined the walls and shelves. Photos of him with friends but most of them were of his little girl. One thing you noticed was the lack of pictures of the girl’s mother. There were a few of her before having the child but not many after.
“So, um... what do you need to see?”
“You mentioned a backyard?” you said, referring back to the interview you had a few days ago.
Bucky nodded and showed you the way. First, you scoped out the best place to conduct your performance then took out your measuring tape to size up the props you might need. As you worked, Bucky could see the gears turning in your head.
“Do you go out to different locations a lot?” Bucky asked, trying to strike up a conversation.
“Not a lot but it’s always fun when we do.”
“How long have you been in business?”
“It’s taken me about ten years to get it off the ground. It’s only been gaining popularity in the last year or so...”
“Wait, so you own Childhood Dreams?”
“Sure do. You see, I always believed childhood should be about fun and games before going onto the drudgery of adulthood. And I help out local business in the process. Most of the items available for purchase were made by local artists. I’m always willing to lend a hand when they need it. That’s why I ask about food. There’s a small bakery a few blocks from the building we’re located who does the most beautiful cakes...”
You suddenly were interrupted by something brushing up against your leg. Looking down, you saw the most adorable white cat.
“Why, hello there. Aren’t you a cutie?” you cooed, bending down to pat the snowy feline.
“This is Alpine. Rebecca is just crazy about her. She’s been a really big help ever since...” Bucky paused, feeling a lump in his throat and tears well up in his eyes.
Alpine trotted over to him and purred as he picked her up.
“Sorry. It’s just... ever since my wife passed when Rebecca was a baby; I’ve wanted to give her the best life possible. I try to give equal amounts of time between her so she can look up to me and work so she has the best things in life...”
You went over and gave him a hug.
“You’re a good man, Bucky. I’ve been in this business long enough to tell the devoted parents from the off-standers. Just by spending a few minutes with you, I already know that you love your daughter and think the world of her. Just make sure you spend a few moments taking care of yourself, okay? It doesn’t have to be much, just enough so you feel good too.”
Bucky gave you a soft smile, knowing that you were right. Everyone had told him as such but sometimes, it’s harder to take advice from the people closest to you.
“Can I get you anything to drink?” he offered.
“Actually, I should get going. I’ve got a children’s charity event I need to get ready for. It’s been really nice seeing you again, Bucky. I guess the next time I see you will be for your daughter’s party.”
 “See you then,” Bucky smiled.
He couldn’t wait for the party.
...
Finally, the day of Rebecca’s birthday arrived. Bucky had spent the night before busily transforming his humble home into a castle fit for a princess. He wanted everything to be perfect for his little girl’s special day, buying the most glittery, ruffled princess dress for her to wear, complete with a sparkly tiara. Bucky himself hired a prince costume and even managed to obtain a kitty sized dragon costume for Alpine.
Bucky spent the morning cooking, starting with a plate of pancakes for breakfast before moving onto the finishing touches on the food for the party. He had most of it prepared already but some of it needed heating.
The first to arrive was Wanda with her twin boys who were both in costume. The boys instantly ran over to play with Rebecca while Wanda was left holding the cake she had made along with her purse and the present she had bought. Bucky rushed over to help her with the items and after exchanging greetings and pleasantries, she showed his the cake.
It was everything Bucky could have ever hoped for and more. The cake was purple with ice cream cones decorated like castle turrets, topped with little princess and unicorn figurines and the words ‘Happy Birthday, Rebecca’ written in icing along with the age she was turning. Little pink flowers were piped along the sides.
“Thank you so much, Wanda. Becca’s just going to love it.”
“You’re welcome,” she smiled, giving him a hug.
Soon after Wanda’s arrival was Steve and Peggy with their child followed by Tony, Pepper and Morgan, Sam with his kid and it wasn’t long before all the party guests had arrived. The adults all mingled while the children played together happily. Right on time, Y/N arrived with her scene partner in full costume. She was wearing a knight costume while her partner (whom she introduced as Phil) was dressed as an ‘evil’ wizard. Bucky settled the kids in front of the makeshift stage and let the performance begin.
Y/N started by introducing herself as a knight dedicated to Princess Rebecca.
“That’s me!” Rebecca squealed in delight, jumping to her feet and clapping.
Y/N knelt down to be level with her, crossing her right arm over her chest in a salute.
“I vow to protect you from the evils of the kingdom.”
Suddenly, Phil jumped out of his hiding place.
“Mwa-ha-ha! I am an evil wizard and I am here to change all the cakes into broccoli!”
Bucky thought he was laying it on a little thick but there was a wave of horrified gasps from the kids.
“Not so fast, evil wizard! We will defeat you! Kids, if I’m going to beat him, I’m going to need your help...”
Y/N and Phil made an amazing pair. While Y/N encouraged the children and even a few of the parents to join in, Phil played off their reactions until he was ‘defeated’.
“You win! I will change my evil ways and use my powers for good!” he dramatically cried.
The children all cheered and clapped. The two actors took a bow and started to pack up as Bucky announced it was time for cake. The kids all raced over to where the cake was being brought out.
“Would you two like to stay for cake?” Bucky offered.
Phil looked at Y/N for permission, a hopeful glint in his eye.
“Sure. We have some time before our next appointment,” she smiled. Phil gave a big, childlike grin.
Once everyone had sung Happy Birthday to Rebecca and she had blown out the candles, the cake was served out. Steve approached Bucky.
“Hey, man. How are you doing?”
“A bit tired but seeing the smile on that little girl’s face makes it all worth it,” he softly sighed.
Steve followed Bucky’s gaze to where Rebecca was talking animatedly to Y/N. He could tell the smile on her face was genuine and not just for show. This was a person who loved their job and loved children.
“Is that the same Y/N you’ve been going on about all week?”
“I haven’t been talking about her that much...”
Steve gave him an incredulous look.
“You know, it’s okay to like her. Why don’t you ask her out?”
 “What about Rebecca?”
“Peggy and I can look after her while you go out on date. You deserve to be happy too...”
Bucky thought about it for a while and headed over to Y/N and Rebecca.
“Daddy, daddy! Y/N was the mermaid at Morgan’s party! She’s magical...” Rebecca was absolutely smitten with the woman.
“I see... Can I talk Y/N alone for a minute? Then you can open presents,” he smiled.
Rebecca giggled and hugged his leg before running off to play with her friends.
 “She’s a darling,” Y/N warmly smiled.
“She is... Listen, Y/N... I was wondering... if you’re not busy tomorrow night... if maybe you’d like to have dinner with me...”
 “Like a date?”
 Bucky’s face flushed.
“I mean, if you want it to be...”
 Y/N kissed his cheek.
“I’d like that. How about 7:00 at the restaurant around the from the Childhood Dreams building. They do an amazing meal...”
 “Sounds perfect,” he smiled.
This was one the best days of Bucky’s life. Not only did he pull off the perfect party for his daughter but he took a step back into the dating world with an incredible woman who somehow stole his heart.

Peter nods his head along to the beats of his music. He moves his hands around pretending to play the air drums. The ding of the elevator signals him to get off. He pulls out his headphones and stuffs them in his pocket. The moment his headphones are off he hears two muffled voices.
"Tony you know why I can't, we've gone over this." A feminine-sounding voice said.
"It's doesn't make sense! You're the best combat fighter I know!" A voice that sounded like Tony's exclaimed.
That sparked Peter's interest, he tiptoed closer to the med bay trying to stay quiet. He peaked only his head into the room. He watched as Tony and some girl argue.
"If you won't join will you at least move in? I just want to know that you're safe and I can't do that when you're in Hell's Kitchen." Tony pinches the bridge of his nose.
"I'll think about it." The woman says as she organized papers on the desk in front of her.
Peter clears his throat and walks into the room. Tony and the woman both looked at him and she smiled.
"Hey, Mr. Stark you asked me to come?." Peter stammers nervously.
"Oh yeah come here kid, Peter this is Y/n our new doctor, Y/n this is Peter Parker." Tony introduced them.
Y/n stands up and straightens out her pants. She walked over to Peter "Nice to meet you, Mr. Parker." She gives a friendly smile.
"It's nice to meet you too Dr. Y/n."
Peter wiped his hand on his shirt and stuck it out, Y/n grabbed his hand and shook it.
"If you ever need anything or have any questions, come talk to me anytime." She grinned.
Peter felt his phone vibrate, he grabbed it out and checked it.
"Thank you I will, I have to go tho there's a store getting robbed and people that need saving." Peter turned while waving.
Y/n waved back and chuckled. She turned back over to Tony "He's a sweet kid."
"Yeah, he is." Tony breathed.
_
Y/n twirls her pen between her fingers, she was bored out of her mind filling out paperwork. After Tony left earlier she decided to tackle the piles of forms left in the closet in her office. Bouncing her leg up and down, checking yes and no, she was sure she was going to go crazy.
Being a doctor for the Avengers was not was what she expected. Y/n expected to be running all over the place with no moment of rest, but in reality, she did PT, gave a couple of people refills for painkillers, and filled out paperwork like an underpaid secretary. Sure this was her first real physician position unless you could count stitching up your own gun wounds, or other shady people as a job.
A knock at the door startled Y/n out of her thoughts. She looked up to see Bucky leaning against the door, arms crossed with a light friendly expression on his face. Her face lit up and she dropped her pen.
"Hey doc you look busy there, we can always cancel for the day," Bucky remarked.
"We wouldn't want to do that Buck, who else would work you out?" Y/n grinned while she wiggled her eyebrows suggesting.
"I have an idea or two," Bucky smirked back.
"I don't know if Sam or Steve would particularly enjoy that."
Bucky scrunched up his face in distaste and immediately shook his head to get rid of the thought. Y/n chuckled and got up from where she once sat.
Y/n grabbed a plastic container off the shelf full of equipment labeled 'shoulder'. She also grabbed the athletic tape and her iPad. She nodded toward Bucky and they walked to the training room.
They walked into a room that was filled with treadmills, weights, mirrors, and other training equipment. Sunlight from the window bounced off the white walls that weren't filled with posters. She gestured Bucky over to a bench and pressed down on his left shoulder.
"Sit." She demanded and he was obligated.
Y/n rolled up his sleeve and began to tape his shoulder. "Why are you doing that?" He questioned.
"Since today is your last day, we are going to work with weights, and taping your shoulder should help with the pressure." Bucky gave an understanding look and she fixed his sleeve.
"Alright, we're going to start off light." She grabbed a 20lb weight and handed it to Bucky.
His eyebrow arched and he looked at Y/n  "That's starting off light?"
"Oh come on, with all the chemicals running through those veins you won't even break a sweat." She teased.
"I don't know why I come to these sessions if you're just going to bully me." Bucky huffed.
Y/n threw her hands up in mock surrender "Sorry."
She grabbed her iPad and began to type, Y/n looked up to see Bucky eyeing her. "What are you looking at big boy, start lifting."
She lifted her hand to her chest and back down as an example. He rolled his eyes but then did what he was told.
_
"I had a sister Rebecca, you would have liked her sweet girl, fiery spirit. I'm pretty sure she had a crush on Stevie at one point. She used to say we were the most intolerable boys on the planet." Bucky had a faraway look in his eyes.
"Oh yeah?" Y/n asked with a smile. She liked seeing Bucky like this, happy, playful, she had only known him for a handful of days but they have been spending a lot of time together with PT, and usually, after they spend time laughing and joking around. Tho she liked him dark and brooding nothing compares to his smile.
Nothing compares to his smil- what the hell am I thinking? She asks herself in a reprimanding tone. This is her patient, one that she's supposed to be helping. Not to mention that he's old enough to be her grandfather. Well, mentally he's probably around 29-30. Another voice says in her head.
"Yeah." He grinned fondly.
"Alright now roll your shoulder forward-"
The sound of the window opening caused her to stop mid-sentence. She gripped the metal water bottle in her hand a little tighter, ready to swing it at the intruder.
She whipped her head around to see a bloody Peter Parker swaying back and forth in a Spider-Man suit with his mask in his hand. She rushed over to him, she grabbed him by his shoulders to steady him.
"Peter are you okay? What happened?" She questioned scanning his face for other injuries.
"I'm fine, just a little light-headed." As soon as the words left his mouth he collapsed into her arms. Y/n looked over to Bucky for assistance.
Together they dragged Peter to the main part of the med-bag and laid him on a bed. She began to hook him up to an IV and heart monitor. She glanced over to Bucky to see him looking over at her helplessly.
"Can you tell Tony he's in here with me?" Y/ n asked Bucky while filling the IV with liquid. He looked back at Peter and nodded.
_
Peter groaned and sat up rubbing his head. He looked over to see Y/n scribbling something on a piece of paper.
"What happened." He asked in a groggy voice.
Y/n's eyes shot over to him, she smiled and fully turned. She clicked her pen, attached it to the clipboard, set it down, and walked over to him.
"Good you're awake, you came in through the window like a couple of hours ago and just passed out. Tony came in not too long ago to see you."
"Oh yeah sorry about that I saw you and Mr. Barnes through the window and thought that I might as well go through there." He breathed.
"Don't worry about it." That was all she said in response.
Y/n looked at his arm to see blood bleeding through the bandages. She took them off and trashed them. She cleaned them off and rewrapped them. Peter watched as she repeated those steps several times for his other cuts.
"You can ask you know." She wrapped the last stitch and rubbed her forehead with her arm.
Peter instantly flushed "ask what?"
She chuckled "I heard you out there, in the hallway." That was the truth. Y/n did hear him in the hallway, she also heard the elevator open and the music he was listening to on the way up.
"I'm sorry?" His statement sounded more as though it was a question.
She once again laughed and shook her head at the boy's antics. He was too young and too pure for this terrible world. He hands hopeful eyes, and there is nothing like a child's hope. Hope is the companion of power, mother of success, hope is seeing the light despite being surrounded by darkness. Hope is the last thing ever lost, and without hope, you can't live.
"What did Tony mean when he said the best fighter he knows." Peter hesitantly asked.
"Oh, he probably meant because I was an assassin." Y/n shrugged nonchalantly.
"WHAT?! ASSASSIN?! Why didn't you tell everyone?" He stammers over his sentence. Who knew? Did Tony know? Is she better than Natasha? Is she better than the Winter Soldier? He had so many questions running through his head.
"Don't ask don't tell." She smiled at Peter getting frustrated at her vague answers.
"That's so cool! How good of a fighter are you? Can you do a flip? Do you have any more cool deadly fighter friends? Can you speak different languages?" Words were shooting out of his mouth like rapid fire.
"Thank, I'm decent, yes, lots of them, a few." She answered his questions as they came, amused to no end. Peter looked at her as though she was a gift from the gods themselves.

Happy BIRTHday! (Shieldshock)
Tumblr media
“I should have known your kid would insist on being born on our birthday,” Darcy groaned, clutching her husband for dear life during a contraction.
She’d gone into labor late in the evening of July third, and strongly suspected baby America wouldn’t arrive until the date showed July fourth.
“We’ve still got a few hours yet,” Steve noted, eying her with concern and excitement. She knew he was totally stoked for fatherhood, given how happy he’d been ever since they’d found out she was pregnant.
“I highly doubt he’s just gonna pop out in two hours,” Darcy observed skeptically, slumping against Steve to catch her breath as the contraction eased. “Much as I wish that would be the case. Jane’s kid was definitely the exception, not the rule.”
Jane and Bucky’s daughter had arrived with astonishing speed, and Darcy was deeply envious.
“Alright,” she sighed. “I think I’m good. Let’s get to the hospital.”
Picking up her bag, Steve helped her out to the car, mentally reviewing all the advice he’d received on supporting one’s partner through childbirth.
Meanwhile, Jane was relaxing in bed, half heartedly perusing a science journal while her husband attempted to distract her with kisses. Hearing a buzz from her phone, she reluctantly pulled back to check it.
“Darcy’s in labor.” She informed Bucky. “They’re headed to the hospital now.”
Bucky beamed.
“Another Fourth of July baby? How very Rogers of him,” he murmured. “Do they need anything?”
“Darcy says no and has ordered me to stay put and not pace around all night,” Jane reported, rolling her eyes at Darcy’s typical bossiness. . “She says Steve will keep us updated. I sure hope it goes okay. It’s impossible not to worry when childbirth is happening.”
“As I recall all too well,” Bucky agreed, remembering how scared he’d been watching her go through it a few months ago. “You were such a trooper, doll.”
“I’ll never forget the look on the doctor’s face when he told me I could start pushing and we had barely even got settled at the hospital,” she reminisced quietly, a smile lighting up her face.
Little Rebecca had been in a tearing hurry to enter the world, and Jane had been grateful for that. She’d heard horror stories of how long labor could be and was bracing for the worst, only for her daughter to arrive after only three and a half hours.
“She was impatient to be out and start sciencing,” Bucky said with a shrug.
Jane giggled and poked his shoulder playfully.
“You goof,” she said lovingly, leaning in to kiss him again.
Sharon and Sam received a similar text as they arrived home after a long mission.
“Looks like you’re gonna owe me, Wilson,” Sharon commented. “He’s gonna be a Fourth of July baby.”
“I’ll happily pay up,” Sam admitted. “I should have known Steve’s kid would do that. Is Darcy doing alright?”
“Yeah. But there’s a long way to go yet. First babies take a while, unless you’re Jane Foster,” Sharon sighed. “I’m dead tired, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to sleep while we’re waiting for news.”
She kicked off her shoes and shed her jacket, wincing as her bruises were aggravated. It had been a tough fight, and she was expecting to be sore for a while afterwards, but they’d caught the weapons smugglers, and she was relieved to count it a success.
“Hmmm. Maybe a nice hot bath would help?”
Sam suggested, holding up her favorite bubble bath solution.
Sharon cracked a tired smile.
“Maybe. Will you join me?” She asked hopefully.
“Happily.” Sam assured her with a grin.
It was nearly seven the next morning when James Samuel Rogers finally made his appearance, screaming his lungs out.
Darcy winced a little at the volume.
“I guess he got an enhanced set of lungs,” she gasped out as he was placed on her chest.
Steve chuckled, even as his eyes filled up with tears.
“He’s beautiful,” he whispered. “Our son.”
“Oh, he’s definitely our kid,” she agreed. “He’s got my hair and your stubborn chin. Hey there, James, it’s all right. Mommy and Daddy are right here,” she said soothingly, running her hand along the baby’s tiny back.
Late that afternoon, baby James’s two sets of godparents arrived, eager to meet him. Steve and Darcy hadn’t told anyone the name yet, and greatly enjoyed the stunned expressions on Sam’s and Bucky’s faces when Darcy introduced baby James for the first time.
“Wow, Steve…..I don’t know what to say,” Bucky managed, giving his friend a big hug. “He’s pretty adorable.”
“We’re honored, man,” Sam added, in his turn. “Congrats!”
“Oh, he’s so cute!” Jane agreed, rushing over to Darcy’s side to admire the newborn. “He obviously inherited the Lewis hair.”
Darcy chuckled. Baby James had a thick head of dark hair just like her.
“Yup. But look at his little chin and ears,” she cooed. “Totally Steve.”
“I’ve seen that look before,” Sharon commented, shooting a sly glance at Steve. “He’s got that stubborn Rogers jaw.”
“I call it the jawline of Freedom.” Darcy said, winking at Steve. “He’s also got his dad’s beefiness. Nine pounds, six ounces.”
Sam whistled, Bucky smiled, and Jane winced in sympathy.
“Holy crap, Darcy. You deserve a medal. You better treat her extra special, Steve,” she declared, pointing her finger at the new father, who nodded seriously.
“I will. She’s my hero,” he stated, looking at his wife and son with a very besotted expression that Darcy referred to as “heart eyes.”
“Do they know if the serum affected little James?” Sharon asked curiously. That had been one source of concern for both Steve and Bucky during the pregnancies. So far, Rebecca had not shown to have inherited any super abilities.
“We don’t think so,” Steve said. “But I just wanted him to be healthy. I can tell you from personal experience, It’s no fun spending half your childhood in the hospital.”
He shared a rueful glance with Bucky, who nodded knowingly.
Darcy passed Baby James to an eager Jane to hold and tugged Steve close to her.
“Steve was great. He let me crush his hand and swear at him without breaking a sweat,” she said fondly. “And he told me funny stories about you two to take my mind off the pain.”
She grinned at Sam and Bucky, who only sighed.
“We’re glad we could be of use,” Sam said with a snarky grin. “What stories did he tell?”
“Oh, the one where Spidey webbed you two up,” Darcy revealed with a sly smile. “You got your butts beat by a teenager.”
“A teenager who can lift an elephant!” Bucky defended mildly, making cute faces at baby James, whose dark blue eyes were now open and looking around.
“Hey there, little guy,” Bucky said to him. “I’m your cool uncle Bucky, this is your awesome aunt Jane and your awesome aunt Sharon. Over there is your much less cool Uncle Sam.”
“Quit feeding the kid lies, Barnes,” Sam retorted. “We all know I’m the cool uncle. You’re the embarrassing caveman uncle who scratches his back with random knives and grunts a lot.”
Darcy, Jane and Steve burst out laughing. The ridiculous banter between Sam and Bucky was ongoing and provided a great source of amusement for their friends.
Next, it was Sharon’s turn to hold little James and she too, quickly fell under his spell.
“He’s just perfect,” she admired, gently touching one tiny fist. “Talk about a birthday present, huh?”
“You can say that again,” Darcy said emphatically. “The best,” Steve agreed, a tender smile on his face.
That night, after an exhausted Darcy had fallen asleep, Steve held his tiny son until the baby also succumbed to slumber. “Happiest Birthday Ever”. He thought, kissing James’s tiny head as he laid him in his bassinet.
“Happy birthday, sweetheart,” he whispered to the sleeping Darcy.

@kaithezaftig hope this is ok!
Bucky kept many parts of his life hidden from different people. Except for you, his wife. You knew of his past and the reputation he upheld around his coworkers and even friends. Everyone knew Bucky as a pretty intimidating and serious man. And he liked to keep it that way. He liked that he could keep a certain part of his life to himself. It made him secure somehow. The only other person who knew of almost every aspect of his life was Steve of course. And Steve always kept things confidential with everyone else.
The team wasn’t exactly afraid of Bucky, they just found him pretty intimidating. Of course, he wouldn’t treat them unfairly, he’d use his manners and treated people accordingly. But he’d always give off this serious and distant vibe. No one would question it though, because they knew what he’d been through.
They also knew he was married. They have met you many times, but they never questioned anything of your relationship since they knew Bucky was sensitive about sharing stuff about his family. Either way, the team, especially Sam, Clint, and Tony, would love to tease him about his so called “tough guy act”. Sam secretly assumed that Bucky wasn’t always intimidating and brooding, which is why he liked to tease him. And the fact that Bucky never denied it, instead just rolling and eyes and grunting, only confirmed his theory further.
Tony also thought that Bucky acted differently when he came to the compound and when he went home. He could tell by the type of bubbly person you, and your kids were. But he decides to leave it alone for his sake. Bucky also knew that the team had the same idea but either way, he didn’t want to give them the satisfaction of telling them directly.
“Come on, Barnes, lighten up a bit! Stop looking so dark and brooding.” Sam teased as Bucky passed by the hallway to assist Steve in the conference room to discuss the mission coming up in a few weeks. Bucky only grumbled and kept walking, leaving Sam to smirk. He couldn’t wait to get home to his girls.
“You know, you are allowed to smile, right Buck?” Steve chuckled when he noticed his almost annoyed expression. Bucky only rolled his eyes and continued to discuss further details of the mission.
“I just wanna go home already. I’m tired.” He mumbled. Steve nodded, and continued on with the details.
----
“Come on, girls! you’re daddy’s gonna be home in a few, pick up your toys from the living room so daddy can come home to a clean house and relax.” You said, calling out for your twin girls, Rebecca and Lorelei. You smiled as you heard their little feet pound on the floor all the way to the living room to clean up. Lorelei ran up to you and put her hands on her hips and leaned a bit to the side; exactly what you do to Bucky when you get sassy.
“Daddy can’t relax mom. He’s joining us for a tea party.” She ground out. You sighed, shaking your head fondly at her before turning back around to keep cleaning the counter.
“Okay then, but daddy’s gonna come home and he’s gonna be real tired since he’s been working all day. So when he comes home, do you think you can give him 10 minutes to rest a bit?” You asked.
Lorelei groaned dramatically before giving in.”Fiiine. Just 10 minutes ok?” You hummed in agreement before the sound of the keys in the door caught your attention. The twins gasped before running towards the door. “DADDYYY!”
The door opened and Bucky walked in, immediately tackled by his two daughters. He smiled widely as he hugged them both and oicked them up, holding one in each arm. “Hey! How have my girls been? Did they behave?” He asked, the girls immediately going on about how their day was.
You smiled as you walked towards him, watching him put the girls down and leaning down a bit to give you a quick kiss. “And how are you, doll?” He chuckled with a lopsided grin on his face.
“I’m good. How was work?” You asked, running a quick hand through his hair. He let out a deep sigh as he straightened his back.
“Stressful.” He sighed.”But I’m glad to be home.” You smiled and rubbed his back comfortingly.
“The team still messing with you? Teasing you about your tough guy act?” You smirked, giggling when you saw him roll his eyes.
“They never stopped. And I don’t get the big deal about it.” He grumbled, making you chuckle.
“I think it’s cute.” You hummed. Bucky sighed and rolled his eyes. “I mean, I think it’s cute that you act all tough and intimidating around people and then come home and suddenly you’re my Bucky Boo Bear.” You teased. Bucky gave you a pointed glare making you giggle.
Right then, Rebecca and Lorelei began to jump around and pull at Bucky’s arms. “Come on, daddy you’re gonna be late to the tea party!” They said in unison.
“Girls, I told you to give your dad 10 minutes to rest.” You said, raising your eyebrows at them. Bucky chuckled and nodded assuringly at you.
“It’s ok, I don’t mind, I’m not as tired as usual.” He smiled, following the girls to their room to start the party. You smiled and began making dinner for the four of you, plugging in your earbuds and turning on spotify.
“Okay daddy, you know the drill.” Lorelei said, waving her hand around like a little boss. Bucky hummed and nodded before taking the tutu Rebecca was handing him, and throwing in on on top of his pants. He then sat down on the small chair at their play table, leaning most of his weight on his legs and knees as to not break the chair. Rebecca then approached him a pink sparkly tiara. Bucky bowed his head to allow her to crown him and he smiled widely, grabbing his tea cup from the table.
“Shall we commence?” He asked, using a horrible fancy accent. The girls nodded before sitting down and raising their tea cup.
“We shall.” They said. “Pinkies up!” Rebecca said, the three of them simultaneously sticking out their pinkies.
You were halfway done with dinner so you decided to check up on Bucky and the girls. Sometimes they forget that Bucky is a human being and he can get tired and so he sometimes needs your  help to get a break. You peeked through the slightly open door of the twin’s bedroom and smiled fondly at the sight. Rebecca was wrapping Bucky up in a blue feather scarf and Lorelei was pouring them all some invisible tea.
“Would you like the sugar cubes, or the sugar free one?” Lorelei asked her dad, you pretended to think.
“I’m kinda on a diet, so i better stick with the sugar free sugar cubes. Thank you.” He smiled as she nodded and pretended to pour the sugar in. You internally cooed and pulled out your phone to record the event. Your phone was already full of videos of him and the girls, but what’s another video gonna hurt? You began to record them and smiled.
“You’re lookin’ good, daddy!” Rebecca quipped, also mimicking what you’d always tell Bucky. Bucky gasped and looked hurt.
“What do you mean I just look good? Am I not beautiful? huh?” He asked, poking around her belly, smiling when she squealed loudly and squirmed around. He decided to grab her and sit her on his lap and continue to dig his fingers gently into her belly. “Are you gonna tell me I’m beautiful yet?” He teased, smiling and letting her go when she spat out giggly apologies.
“Enough horsing around! Drink your tea!” Lorelei scolded, pointing a finger at the two. You chuckled and stopped recording, you didn’t wanna get caught.
“Uh oh. Someone has an attitude!” Bucky chuckled before reaching over and snatching her off the chair and tickling her ribs. “Looks like someone needs some tickles to get that funky attitude out.” He chuckled, pausing his attack when he finally noticed you peeking in the doorway. He noticed your phone in your hand as his jaw dropped and as he glared at you playfully. “Were you recording?” He asked. You tucked your phone in your pocket and giggled nervously. “You did!” He gasped, standing up and ripping the tiara off him before running after you.
You squealed and took off to your bedroom, trying to get there fast enough so you could lock yourself in there. “Show me the video y/n!” He laughed as he was gaining on you. You only giggled and yelped when his hand blocked you from closing the door on him. He immediately scooped you up and carried you to your shared bed, “I guess everyone needs a visit from the tickle  monster today!” He sighed, throwing you on the bed making your laughter sound more nervous.
“Nohoho! I don’t need a visit!” You giggled, trying to scoot away from him but he grabbed your legs to keep you in place.
“Are you gonna show me the video?” He asked, raising his eyebrows at you.
“No.” You scoffed sassily, probably not the best move right now.
“That’s what I thought.” He chuckled, before attacking your ribs and belly. You squealed, arching your back and giggling hysterically. He tried to reach under you to grab the phone out of your back pocket but you’d always squeal and turn on your side, preventing him from grabbing it. He groaned before squeezing your thighs and right above your knees, making you throw your head back in ticklish agony and kick out your legs. “You can make this stop by showing me the video..” He sang, scoffing when you shook your head stubbornly. “Fine, have it your way.” He sighed, digging his thumbs into your hipbones.
You let out a scream before flailing around as much as you could. Bucky chuckled and kept this up for a bit longer until you finally gave in. “OKAHAHAY! OKAY JUST STOHOHOP!” You yelled, slapping at his hands.
Bucky smiled. “Does that mean you’ll show me the video?” He teased. You nodded frantically, panting when he finally let go and stood up with his hands on his hips, looking at you expectantly. You sat up with a sigh and took out your phone and showed him the video.
He shook his head at the video with a smile on his face before handing the phone back to you. “Do not show this to anyone, ok?” He said. You playfully rolled your eyes and sighed dramatically.
“Yes, Bucky, your alter ego “The Bucky Boo Bear” is safe and secure within this household.” You teased, pinching his cheek and giggling when he rolled his eyes. “I mean, it’s not like I was planning on sending it to team or anything..” You smirked, shrugging it off. Bucky stiffened and poked your belly on last time, making you flinch.
“You better not.” He chuckled. You laughed and bent down to give him a quick kiss.
“Relax. I’m not gonna do it.” You waved dismissively, smiling at the thought of the teams reaction if you had sent it to them. They probably wouldn’t have even been that surprised!
I don’t know how to end this so....... the end

Summary: Bucky Barnes has no idea what to do for his daughter’s 12th birthday party. That is, until he meets you.
Inspired by this ask that I sent to @bucky-plums-barnes for Daddy Wednesday!
masterlist
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bucky Barnes looks once more to the computer sitting in front of him before groaning and dropping his forehead onto the desk in agitation. His daughter’s birthday is in five days and he had put off planning for too long because of work. Closing the case involving a string of high-end robberies had been put on priority and Bucky was too preoccupied to focus on putting together an awesome party for his little girl.
Last year his ex hosted Becca’s birthday party, so this year was his turn, and Jude and Wesley’s joint party would be planned by Dot. Bucky knew he had to do great for this party, not only because his daughter wanted to impress her friends as all twelve-year-olds do, but also because he wanted to one-up his ex-wife. It’s not like Bucky and Dot had a competitive relationship, but sometimes it’s nice to feel good about his parenting skills.
Dot and Bucky started dating in high school, both taking an interest in the other automatically when they met through the astronomy club. After they graduated and went on to college, they found themselves suddenly with a baby on the way. They were in love, so marriage seemed like the best option. A baby girl, a wedding, and a twin boy and girl later, and Bucky and Dot realized that they were just going through the motions. Knowing that they had fallen out of love, their relationship ended with an amicable divorce, shared custody of their children the only thing connecting them now.
Bucky shakes himself out of thoughts of his past with Dot, turning his attention back to Google. Having waited so long to even browse for decorations, he hadn’t had the thought of ordering a cake before now. Presently, looking through different websites and making calls to various bakeries, Bucky is thinking he may have to figure something else out for last minute. Maybe Bec would like a pizza cake?
Bucky’s brooding is interrupted when his partner at the precinct comes over and knocks on his desk to get his attention, sitting down on the tabletop when he looks up.
“Hey Barnes, what’s with the pity party,” Natasha asks with a smirk painted on her red lips.
James lifts his eyes to Nat, a dreadful look crossing his face. “I’m the worst father in the world,” he mutters after a moment. When his friend laughs he points a glare in her direction that has startled many perps into talking, though Natasha is completely unaffected by it. “I’m sorry, is my misery amusing to you?”
“And you call Rogers dramatic.” She says and rolls her eyes fondly, her laughter dying down after a minute. Her face going back to passive, Nat sends a look his way. “James, you’re not the world’s worst father and we both know it. I mean, you never met my parents.” With a shrug, Nat stands up and walks around the desk, sitting down in her own chair on the other side.
Bucky sighs and drops his head, knowing that what she said about him is true. “It’s just that Becca’s birthday is so soon. She’s turning twelve and I know that’s a hard age. I wanna make it special for her, but I waited too long to start planning.”
Bucky hears Nat mumble something about men and procrastinating, which he opts to ignore. Instead, he looks down at the list of tasks that he scribbled on a piece of notebook paper. He runs a hand through his hair, pushing strands out of his eyes.
“I need to figure out what the theme should be, but the cake is what I’m worried about most. Every bakery I’ve called or looked up needs at least three weeks in advance for specialty cakes.”
Natasha nods her head, thinking for just a moment before her eyes brighten with an idea. “Give me a minute, I know a guy.”
Bucky knew better than to ask. Nat would give him the information when she wanted and not a minute sooner, so he went back to his computer, switching tabs to a website devoted to party planning to look for decoration ideas.
A few minutes later a notebook is tossed down in front of the detective, startling him out of his trance. He glances down at the scribbled address and name, then up to his partner standing with a hand on her hip. When he raised an eyebrow in question, Nat nods her chin at the paper. “That’s the bakery that will make Becca’s cake. They’re not very busy right now, so you should be able to order a cake and it will be ready by the party.”
Looking back down, James runs his fingers over the corner of the paper, thinking. “Brooklyn Bake Shop, isn’t that where Sam works?” When he receives a nod in return, Bucky’s face lights up in a smile. “Oh, that’s where you got those awesome cupcakes that you brought in for New Year’s! I can’t believe I didn’t think of that.”
“I believe it,” Natasha mutters, but Bucky sees a mix between a smile and a smirk on her face when he looks up wearing a faux offended expression. She rolls her eyes at their typical teasing banter, flicking Bucky on the forehead. “Get over to the bakery, Barnes.”
“Right! I’m on it,” Bucky says, tearing the paper from the notebook and folding it up in his pocket before grabbing his jacket and taking off.
Tumblr media
Pulling round pans of cake out of the oven, you transfer them to a rack so they’ll cool before you can ice and decorate them. Taking a second to breathe, you lean against one of the counters and pull your phone out of your apron. You see a text from Natasha, a close friend who is also dating the co-owner of your bakery, Sam.
Nat: Hey is it alright if I send a customer your way? They need a cake by Saturday.
You smile down at your phone, appreciating that Natasha is always thinking of you, sending business your way.
You: No problem. I’m not too busy with orders right now, and I have some free time this afternoon if they need a consultation. Send them by!
You receive a confirmation text from Nat and pocket your phone and clean up the kitchen, then grab your cake sketchbook. You take it with you to the front of the store, deciding to help out at the display case while you wait for your new customer. You finish helping one of your regulars with picking out an assortment of cookies and send her to the cash register to check out, turning to the next person in line.
You take in the man standing in front of you, chin-length chestnut brown hair pushed behind his ears and scruff over the lower half of his face making his light blue eyes pop. Your eyes move lower and you can’t help but notice how fit he seems, the muscles in his chest and arms demanding attention from beneath the dark blue button-up shirt that seems just a tad tight. You shake yourself out of it after a moment, clearing your throat and hoping the man didn’t notice you practically ogling him, though the hint of a smirk on his face tells you otherwise.
“Hi and welcome to Brooklyn Bake Shop, what can I help you with today?”
“My friend recommended your bakery,” he says casually. A sample cake in the display case catches his attention and as he leans over to take a closer look at it your eyes are drawn to the badge hanging from a chain around his neck, making a light bulb go off in your head.
“You must be Natasha’s friend,” you point out and he straightens up, looking over at you with narrowed eyes. You gesture to the badge that is still visible sitting atop his broad chest and his face relaxes with understanding.
“Yeah, Nat told me that I can order a cake. I couldn’t find anybody else that can get it done by Saturday, so she really saved my life by giving me your information.” You nod your head and hum but when you don’t say anything else the man gets a brief panicked look on his face. “You can make one by Saturday, can’t you?”
You’re unable to stifle the small giggle that rises within you at his show of distress. “Of course I can get a cake done by then. My name is Y/N, I’m part-owner of the bakery.”
Relief shows itself all over the man at your words, and a genuine smile lifts the corners of his mouth. “I’m Bucky.”
“Well, why don’t you sit with me and we’ll talk about your cake, shall we?” Bucky nods and you walk around the counter, leading him to the small sitting area in the corner of your shop. Two comfortable chairs sit together with a side table nestled between them as a place to go over cake designs with clients and you sit in the chair on the right, nodding for him to sit in the other seat when he hesitates briefly. As Bucky takes a moment to get comfortable you grab a pencil, opening your sketchbook to a new page.
“Let’s start with the basics, what type of event are you ordering the cake for?”
“My daughter’s birthday party.”
You nod, writing that down. “What can you tell me about your daughter,” you ask brightly. You watch as Bucky’s face lights up before he is giving you a characterization of his daughter.
“Rebecca is my oldest girl, and I’ve also got twin 9-year-olds, Jude and Wesley. Becca turns 12 on Saturday and I’m hosting her party, I just got really busy with work and didn’t start planning until, well, today.” Bucky looks down, a slight pink tinge on his cheeks and you smirk softly. “Becca likes taking photos, she carries one of my old cameras around with her everywhere. She’s great in school, especially history and science. Becca’s favorite thing is space, she loves when I take a drive out of the city so we can watch the stars, and she says she’d like to be an astronomer one day.” An adoring smile lifts Bucky’s lips at the thoughts he is sharing and you have to contain the ‘awww’ welling up in you.
Watching Bucky as he talks lovingly about his daughter, you try to keep your mind on the business at hand and not on this sweet and caring man that you’ve just met. It doesn’t hurt that he may be the most attractive person you’ve ever seen.
No, you mentally shake yourself out of it, he’s a customer. Just go back to discussing the cake.
“So what kind of theme should we fit the cake to, does your daughter have a preference?”
Bucky brings a hand up to rub the back of his neck, embarrassment taking over his face. “I haven’t picked out any decorations yet, and Becca said she wanted it to be a surprise,” he says and you try not to let yourself focus on the way he bites his lip shyly.
You nod, thinking to yourself for a minute. “You said she loves space, how about an astronomy-themed cake? I have a few ideas…”
The rest of your afternoon is spent with Bucky, designing the cake, choosing flavors and fillings, and you even brought your laptop out of your office to look up decorations to fit the party theme that he had agreed with, sharing the links with him. After closing your computer and sketchbook, you stand from your seats and you stretch your arms up, having been sitting for too long. Bucky chuckles and follows your lead, his back cracking noticeably, making you giggle along quietly.
“Thank you for seeing me, I was starting to panic about disappointing my little girl,” he says to you after a moment.
“I doubt you could do that, Bucky. And it’s my pleasure.” The smile on his face reflects your own and you duck your head, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear.
After a few moments of comfortable silence, your new customer speaks up again. “Do you mind if I stop back by the counter and pick up a few treats to go?”
“Of course not,” you say, but the time on your watch grabs your attention as you walk toward the counter. “Shoot, I have a rack of cakes to ice, and then I should get started on bakes for the morning. Sam can help you if that’s okay.”
You grab the attention of your business partner with a wave and he walks over as Bucky nods. “That’s fine, Y/N, thanks again for helping me. I’ll see you on Saturday?”
Your heart thumps at the thought, but you only nod and hum in affirmation before disappearing into the kitchen to pick back up on your tasks.
Sam looks on in amusement as his friend watches you walk away, a near-dopey smile on the detective’s face. Bucky hears a throat clear and immediately looks to Sam in irritation, only to see the baker shaking his head in faux disappointment with a smirk on his face.
“What, Wilson?”
Sam chuckles at the scowl Bucky now wears, a gap-tooth smile lighting up his face. “Nothing, Barnes.”
Bucky mumbles a disbelieving “sure” under his breath before leaning back down to check out the offerings set in the display case. “Can I get an assortment of 6 cupcakes and a dozen chocolate chip cookies?”
Eyebrows raise amusedly. “Feeling a little peckish, there, Buck?”
“Yeah, whatever. I’m taking these back to the station for everybody. Make sure to put some of those French toast cupcakes in there for Natasha, I don’t want her to kill me,” Bucky says, his tone suggesting that he’s kidding...kind of.
Sam chuckles and gathers the requested items, packaging and ringing up the purchase. Bucky leaves the shop with armsful of snacks, and hope that he may not have failed his little girl after all. Now it’s just up to him to assemble the rest of the party.

Supernatural Rewatch 01x06
Skin
(Next Episode | Masterlist | Previous Episode)
So we start out with Sam and Dean talking about Sam’s attempts at maintaining contact with his college friends.
Dean: So you lie to them? Sam: No, I just don’t tell them everything Dean: Yeah, that’s called lying.
Interesting … considering how Dean reacts to being lied to in later seasons, it is interesting to note that he kind of has this black and white view of it while Sam is more comfortable telling people what they are comfortable hearing (look back at 01x01 and their different reactions to their dad letting them know about monsters at a very early age) Dean doesn’t like half-truths, even for other’s protections. (Not that he never lies throughout the series, this is another good idea for analysis)
Sam: So, what am I supposed to do, just cut everybody out of my life? You’re serious? Dean: Look it sucks but, a job like this, you can’t get close to people, period.
This episode we get to see more of Sam’s focus on people he cares about.
Did Sam really just ask his friend Becky to make them sandwiches?? Wow. (I know that this was to get her out of the room, but this was before “make me a sandwich” became such a big meme. It’s extra funny that they do it again in season 15 (When Deans asks the woman to leave so he can confront the Djinn) but they’re much more self-aware about it)
Dean: “One thing I learned from Dad, not matter what kind of shapeshifter it is, there is one sure way to kill it”
Sam: “silver bullet to the heart”
So they have dealt with Shapeshifters before, or at least Dean has. But maybe it was a different kind? One that didn’t shed the way this one does?
Dean: I hate to say it, but this is exactly what I’m talking about. You lie to your friends because if they knew the real you, they’d be freaked.
(file under – the queer coding of Sam Winchester)
Ok, I don’t know how much we can rely on the Shifter’s words about how Dean feels but, assuming we can;
Shifter!Dean: You got to go to college … I had to stay home with Dad, you don’t think I had dreams of my own? But Dad needed me, where the hell where you? … deep down, I’m just jealous. You got friends; you could have a life. Me? I know I’m a freak, and sooner or later everybody’s gonna leave me.  … You left. Hell, I did everything Dad asked me too and he left me too. No explanation, nothing just – left me with your sorry ass.
So, this tells us that Dean did have dreams of his own, that he’s thought about a life away from hunting (contrary to what he tells Lilith in Season 15). It’s also interesting because we usually see the word “freak” applied to Sam, when he realizes he’s psychic, when he gets addicted to demon blood, later when he is defending Jack. But here we see that Dean feels like a freak in his own way. He knows that he can never have a normal life, never be seen as normal by other people, so he doesn’t even try. Sam tries to have friends, tries to give them the portions of himself that they can handle, but Dean knows nobody in the normal world will be able to understand him – how he grew up, what he’s been through – so he doesn’t let anyone get too close.
In 15x07 we learn that Dean did have friends in his 20’s. Hunter friends, but still friends. He hunted with Lee while Sam was in college. So why do we never hear about him? Why doesn’t Dean call him up sometimes, or fondly remember him? (well, realistically because the writers didn’t invent Lee until they wrote season 15) But, there’s a canon reason too. Dean mentions that he thought Lee had died by the time he sees him in 2020. He obviously cared about Lee, enjoyed spending time with him, but he didn’t make the effort to stay in contact, to find out if his friend had lived or died, most likely because he was afraid of losing him. It’s easier to walk away from people than have them walk away from you. In this episode (1x06) we see Dean chooses to stay disconnected from people around him.
Sam needs people, so he adjusts himself to their expectations and their comfort, but Dean would rather have no connection than a partial one, or one that will inevitably end in hurt.
“you mean like a Vulcan mind meld?” (Ok, so Dean canonically watched Star Trek, at least enough to immediately think of this reference. good to know. For reasons) “maybe he needs to keep us alive, for the psychic connection” (Ok, maybe never mind about the shapeshifter in season 13, I don’t know if she would be able to get the thoughts of the deceased loved ones. )
“maybe this thing was born human but was different. Hideous and hated. Until he learned to become someone else.”
Ok, so this line is said by the shifter, as Dean, about the shifter, but I want to talk about how it applies to Sam. Sam Winchester is born human, but he has demon blood. We learn in season 8 that, although he didn’t know about the demon blood or about his psychic abilities until his 20’s, as a child he felt that he was “not clean.” Not only is raised to fight and kill monsters, very unlike a normal kid, he also has this intrinsic sense of … wrongness. Additionally, he has never been encouraged by his father to be himself or to pursue his own interests. He likely doesn’t believe that anything about who he is  is good or worth anything. So, he learns to be something else. He goes to college and tries to leave his entire life behind him. He doesn’t open up about his real life to anyone, not even his girlfriend. He tries to adapt. Fit in, even though he doesn’t fit. Then he goes hunting with Dean, but he won’t tell Dean about his visions, he doesn’t open up to him. He dutifully plays the role of little brother, and hides anything that could cause Dean worry or pain. We see this repeat throughout the seasons, Sam adapting, tucking away parts of himself, letting go of his opinions, his views on things, letting Dean be right. The one time when he doesn’t do this is with Jack. He sees himself in Jack, a scared little boy who is so afraid of being evil, and he can’t watch what happened to him happen to somebody else. He has to step in, speak up on Jack’s behalf. He CAN’T tuck his feelings away this time, because it’s not himself on the line. He doesn’t often stand up for himself, but he will stand up for other people.
Shifter: All alone, close to no one. All he wants is somebody to love him. He’s like me
Rebecca’s eyes: *THE F*** IS THIS GUY SERIOUS*
SAME Rebecca SAME
EUGH I forgot how gross shifting was.
Ok, well Dean is officially a wanted man. Wow, to go from a few torture/murders to attempting to assassinate the president. He really has beefed up his resume.
The Samulet!! Weird that the shifter took that from Dean and wasn’t able to replicate it … O.O That’s such a good little detail to let us know that it’s important.
Oh, so now Rebecca knows the truth about Sam.
Rebecca: “Will you call us sometime?” Sam: “It might not be for a little while.”
(and she was never heard from again … I imagine because Sam started to realize that Dean was right. It’s easier to stay away from connections. This is also probably a part of his growing guilt, and fear that anyone close to him will be hurt. It is interesting to think … now that she knows the truth and the fake version of him no longer exists in her mind, he doesn’t try to maintain the relationship?)
 DEAN: Sorry, man.
SAM: About what?
DEAN: I really wish things could be different, you know? I wish you could just be….Joe College.
SAM: No, that’s okay. You know, the truth is, even at Stanford, deep down, I never really fit in.
DEAN: Well, that’s ‘cause you’re a freak.
SAM: Yeah, thanks.
DEAN: Well, I’m a freak, too. I’m right there with ya, all the way. (SAM laughs.)
SAM: Yeah, I know you are.
I know Dean means this as a playful joke, but it’s the first time we see Sam being referred to as “a freak” which will occur much more after this.

Look into my eyes and know I'll always stay
Ao3. Note: no endgame spoilers. This is based on the song Run Away by Ben Platt.
Summary: some wedding fluff
Tony and Pepper got married on a warm Saturday. It was private wedding held outside by a lake. They invited only their closest friends and family. They had each picked two groomsmen and bridesmaids. Tony’s groomsmen were Rhodey and Peter. Pepper’s bridesmaids were Natasha and her younger sister, Rebecca.
The few hours before the wedding were filled with chaos. Pepper, Natasha, and Rebecca hung out in Pepper and Tony’s bedroom as they got dressed. The room was filled with bowls of non-drip snacks, makeup and hair brushes, and various garments. In the middle of the chaos, Pepper, Natasha, and Rebecca talked loudly over the music playing. It took them three hours for all of them to get their hair an makeup done and another half hour for them all to get dressed. Natasha had to fight back tears when she saw Pepper in her wedding dress for the first time. The three women hugged tightly once they were all dressed.
“Are you alright, Pepper?” Natasha asked when Pepper saw herself in the mirror for the first time. Pepper turned to Natasha and smiled.
“I couldn’t be happier,” Pepper said. She hugged Natasha tightly.
Tony was a ball of anxiety leading up to the wedding. He was more anxious than Peter, which was hard to beat. Tony smiled fondly at Peter as he struggled tying his tie. He simply took it out of Peter’s hands and tied it himself. Rhodey helped both of them with their cuff links. Tony say Rhodey starting to tear up as he pinned a flower to Tony’s lapel. They tears turned into laughed when Tony said, “No tears yet, Platypus.” Before getting set for the wedding to begin, Tony hugged both Rhodey and Peter tightly.
“Thank you both for alway having my back. Thank you for being part of the best day of my life,” Tony put a hand on both of their cheeks. “I love you with all my heart.” Tears welled up in all of their eyes and they hugged one last time before walking out of the room.
Tony stood in front of all the chairs, already filled with all of their loved ones, as Rhodey and Peter disappeared back to escort Rebecca and Natasha. Peter nearly burst into tears again when he saw Pepper. He ran up to her and hugged her tightly. Pepper smiled and pressed a kiss to Peter’s hair. He pulled back and Pepper kissed his forehead.
“I love you, mom,” Peter said.
“Peter,” Pepper said with a laugh, fanning her eyes as they welled with tears, “you can’t make me cry yet!” Peter grinned. “I love you too, baby.” They hugged once again before Peter took his place beside Natasha. She reached over and straightened his tie and brushed lint off his jacket. They shared a fond smile as the music began.
Tony watched the proceedings with a soft smile. Cassie, who they asked to be their flower girl, walked down the aisle with a bright grin. She smiled at everyone along the way before taking her place in the first row of chairs in front of Tony. Tony smiled at the girl and gave her a discreet thumbs up. Cassie grinned. Next was Peter and Natasha. They both smiled happily at the crowd in the seats and then at Tony. Tony almost started crying again, but he held it in. Natasha and Peter reached the front where the split off. Peter came and stood on Tony’s left. He gives the kid a quick squeeze. Rebecca and Rhodey came next both of them looked so happy and so proud. Tony hugged Rhodey as well when he got to the front.
Then the music changed.
The crowd stood up and turned around to see Pepper, escorted by Happy. And if Tony wasn’t crying before, he was now. Pepper smiled widely when her eyes met Tony’s. Tony smiled as the woman who he would be spending the rest of his life with walked towards him. When Happy and Pepper reached him, Pepper turned to Happy and kissed his cheek, Happy smiled at her and took her hand. He placed it lightly in Tony’s palm before taking the place beside Cassie in the first row. Pepper and Tony turned to face Sam who had been ordained the week prior. Before the ceremony began, Pepper reached up and wiped away Tony’s tears, he leaned into her touch.
They held hands as the ceremony began.
“We are gathered here today to celebrate the union of two people we love dearly,” Sam began. “Through thick and thin Tony and Pepper have been there for each other. And when we look at them, we see the relationship ideal, what we want our children to have. I believe they have prepared their own vows?” Sam asked. Pepper and Tony nodded. “Then, Tony, would you like to begin?” Tony took a deep breath and nodded.
“Pep, it’s no secret that I am completely and utterly in love with you. I have been since day one. You’ve stood by my side through every stupid mistake I made and trust me there will me many many more.” Pepper laughed and so did the crowd. “You keep me sane. You’re the smartest person I know.” Tony looked down at his shoes before he looked back up at Pepper. She smiled, tears falling down her cheeks. “Pepper, I love you more than you could ever imagine. I love that everyone thought we were married years ago, I love that you never give up on me even though you probably should, and I love that you know me better than I know myself.” Pepper squeezed Tony’s hands and he continued, “I can’t imagine my life without you and I promise I  will always be by your side.”
Tony didn’t have to look at the crowd, or at Peter, or at Rhodey, Natasha, or Rebecca to know that they were crying. Pepper let go of Tony’s hand to wipe away her tears when she put her hand back in his, it was even tighter.
“Pepper, your vows?” Sam said after a moment. Pepper nodded.
“Tony,” she began, “you are the most insane man I ever met.” The crowd laughed. “But I love you anyway. I love you with all of you eccentricities and your crazy ideas and your worrying.” Tony smiled. “But somehow we manage to work together. And I have no idea how, because there is not a single reason we should get along.” Another laugh. “But I do know that I love you and I love everything that has come in my life because of you. You bring so much light and wonder to the world. And I can’t believe that I get am so lucky to get to love you.” Pepper squeezed Tony’s hands. “I promise that I will never give up on you, not matter what.”
Tony and Pepper took a moment to wipe away their tears before they looked back at Sam. Sam also had tears in his eyes, but he took a breath and continued with the ceremony.
“Anthony Stark, do you take Virginia Potts to be your lawfully wedded wife to have and to hold from this day forward?” Sam asked.
Tony looked at Pepper and smiled, “I do.”
“Virginia Potts, do you take Anthony Stark to by you lawfully wedded husband to have and to hold from this day forward?”
Pepper’s eyes were alight with happiness, “I do.”
“Then by the power vested in me, I hereby pronounce you husband and wife.” Sam smiled at them. “You may kiss your bride,” he told Tony. Tony smiled before he stepped towards Pepper. The crowd burst into applause as they kissed. When they pulled apart, Tony and Pepper rested their foreheads together with wide smiles.

WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. It’s open for anyone to join in and is a great way to share what you’ve been reading! All you have to do is answer three questions and share a link to your blog in the comments section of Sam’s blog.
The three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
A similar meme is run by Lipsyy Lost and Found where bloggers share This Week in Books #TWiB.
  What I’m reading now:
The Fallout by Rebecca Thornton
I just started reading this late last night so have only read a couple of chapters but I’m gripped already and am looking forward to reading more soon.
The Christmasaurus and the Winter Witch by Tom Fletcher
This book is gorgeous! I’m really enjoying it and whilst I wanted to read it all in one sitting yesterday afternoon I’m determined to make it last a little bit longer. It really is such a lovely read though, I recommend it!
The Great Christmas Knit-Off by Alexandra Brown
I love this book so really wanted to re-read it this Christmas and I’m so glad I made time for it. This book gives me all the feels and I always enjoy it so much.
The Christmas Chronicles by Nigel Slater
This is another re-read! I bought it a couple of years ago and it’s become a must re-read every festive season. It’s such a beautiful book, it feels like such a treat to read.
This obviously isn’t a book but it is the one time of year when I absolutely have to get a copy of the Christmas Radio Times. It was a tradition in my house as I was growing up and it’s a tradition in my own house now. It always makes me happy to read through this magazine in the week before Christmas and to mark the things that I’d like to watch over the festive season. 🙂
  What I recently finished reading:
Three Hours by Rosamund Lupton
I finally picked this back up this week and got completely engrossed in it. I found this gripping and impossible to look away from even when it was incredibly nerve-racking!
Last Christmas by Emma Thompson & Greg Wise
I very much enjoyed dipping in and out of this book over a few days, it’s covers such a wide range of experiences of Christmas and I’d recommend it to everyone. I reviewed this one yesterday so you can find that here if you’d like to know more.
Let It Snow by John Green, Lauren Myracle & Maureen Johnson
This is a collection of three interlinked short stories and it’s been on my TBR for years! I finally picked it up as it’s now a film on Netflix but I’m sad to say the book was just an okay read for me. I enjoyed the first story but the following two weren’t quite as good.
Finding Christmas by Karen Schaler
This book is Christmas personified and I very much enjoyed it. If you want a Christmas book that is full of festive spirit then this is the book for you! I reviewed this on Monday so you can find that here if you’d like to know more.
Poetry for Christmas by Orna Ross
This is a gorgeous poetry collection that really reflects on this time of year. I really did enjoyed this one. My review is here if you want to know more.
Christmas at the Little Knitting Box by Helen J. Rolfe
This is another really lovely Christmas novel, and I really enjoyed it. It felt so romantic and Christmassy! I’m delighted to find that this is the first in a series and there are already quite a few books out so I’m going to enjoy catching up on those.
An Almost Perfect Christmas by Nina Stibbe
I got the audio book of this from my library and it was a really good listen. The author narrates her stories herself, which really added to the book. I always enjoy hearing about other people’s Christmases so this was a fun book.
Daisy’s Christmas Gift Shop by Hannah Pearl
I bought the ebook of this and then the audio as well and I enjoyed it. Unfortunately the title feels very misleading to me as this isn’t really a book about Christmas. It’s set near Christmas but that’s the only link and it was barely mentioned so that left me a little disappointed.
What I plan on reading next:
The Night Before Christmas by Scarlett Bailey
I read this book when it first came out a few years ago and whenever I think of it I feel Christmassy so have wanted to re-read it. I’m so looking forward to it.
Miracle on Regent Street by Ali Harris
This is another favourite! I’ve re-read this one a few times in recent years as I just love it so much. It always feels like a real treat!
Meet Me Under the Mistletoe by Abby Clements
This is another festive book that I read and loved when it was first published and I remember it so fondly that I’d really like to re-read it if I get time this week.
Christmas With Dull People by Saki
I treated myself to this book a few weeks ago and have been saving it until nearer Christmas so it’s finally time that I can read it! I can’t wait!
What have you been reading this week? I’d love to hear. And if you take part in WWW Wednesdays or This Week in Books please feel free to leave your link below and I’ll make sure to visit and comment on your post. 🙂
