Some moments of the book "Sword of Destiny" that I want to highlight - Jaskier begs Geralt not to leave him.

Brief warning of No spoilers.

This second book, titled "Sword of Destiny", ends at the same narrative point as the first season of the Netflix adaptation, so this post doesn't contain spoilers for the main plot of The Witcher. Instead, I will highlight scenes from the book that were not adapted for television.

Having said that…

In the second book of The witcher saga, titled "Sword of Destiny", chapter "Something more", part 7 (equivalent to a scene not adapted from chapter 1x08 in the Netflix series), is where the famous scene occurs in which Jaskier (Dandelion) begs Geralt not to leave him.

I love how the scene unfolds. The Nilfgaard war has started and Jaskier is in a state of complete panic (as is everyone else), so he tries to run away from the Nilfgaardian army, coincidentally meeting Geralt along the way.

Jaskier immediately starts ranting about the battle, speaking to Gueralt about the imminent advance of Nilfgaard's troops (even without mentioning Cintra), Geralt does not understand the seriousness of the matter and tries to make Jaskier calm down,

It is then that the famous scene occurs, Dandelion begs Geralt not to leave him and Geralt responds with one of my favorite dialogues

As you can see, Geralt accepts (and by the way he lets Jaskier ride Roach, together). However, it should be noted that throughout the exchange:

Jaskier's intention was that he and Geralt to run away together (I wonder if this scene is where the writers drew inspiration for the dragon hunt scene where Jaskier asks Geralt to go to the coast together).

Instead, Geralt's intention was to accompany the bard to a safe place and leave him there to return to Cintra for Ciri (Geralt did not yet know that Cintra had already fallen).

At the moment that Jaskier finds out that Geralt will not go with him until the end, he worries about geralt and asks him directly if his life (the witcher's life) doesn't matter to him, it is at this moment that Geralt explains that he still has business to attend to in Cintra (Ciri ) and Jaskier stops him by telling him that Cintra has fallen

Shocked, Geralt asks Dandelion to tell him what happened.

Up to this point, it is believed that there were no survivors in Cintra, so, resigned, Geralt decides to go with Jaskier.

Jaskier still notices how distressed Geralt is, a brief conversation occurs where Geralt explains the situation a bit and ends with this, where Jaskier still tries to get Geralt to talk:

I like this conversation better in Spanish version where they change the dialogue "Are we crossing the river today?" for "¿Cruzaremos juntos?" (Will we cross together?). Which highlights Jaskier's intention that they run away together.

I highly recommend reading this scene in the book (and thus the entire book). Despite the brief summary I gave you, there is still more that happens in the book that makes this moment that much more sentimental. I love how Geralt and Jaskier genuinely care about each other in this part and I find it strangely intimate.

Finally, a brief apology for any grammatical errors that I have made, English is not my first language and I' m still practicing.

i split the list out by month from june, which is when i started using PS + HD video and making gifs in earnest. but i wanted to pick a favorite from the first half of the year, too, because i couldn't have made any of the later sets without the experience from the earlier ones!

I just read a fan theory that Yennefer also used besides the fire magic in 1x08 a form of the spell of last resort. What's your opinion about it? Do you think that's possible?

I'm not the person to ask about anything vaguely related to Witcher lore or canon. I don't know enough about either and the show has not given us enough rules about the use of magic for me to even hazard a guess.

Alzur's thunder is quite a specific thing, isn't it? Involving lightning (and, presumably, thunder?)? Idk, my short-lived foray into Gwent means I can picture the card but that's about it. I don't think Yen's display of fiery devastation drew from the same source as Tissaia did when she cast Alzur's Thunder. Yen drew from the fire already raging to stoke her chaos, as well as the complex mess of emotions inside herself. Tissaia seemed to call a storm and draw from that?

I feel like if she had used a form of the same spell that it would have been mentioned? They just kept going on about the fire magic (although not consistently and it was quickly forgotten).

So, basically, I don't know.

Forty minutes into 1x08 (Much More), for the first time in the whole season, Yennefer’s musical theme shifts slightly and goes up the octave -- exactly as Yennefer makes a huge character-defining choice. She’s presented with an opportunity for power and potential and legacy - what she’s been searching for all her life.

She rejects it.
