Could we get some ship confirmations? Ones that are guaranteed to make it to the tournament? Or are there no guarantees yet?
It's hard to say, since I didn't do an official count yet, and I also am still not sure if I'll start with 32 ships or 64 and/or have a seperate poly ship bracket (I'll put this up to a vote later, when I've done some counting).
But, some ships have gotten so many submissions that they are very very likely in. These ships are:
Frobin NamiVivi LuSan (SanLu? I've seen both)
The most submitted poly ship for now is Cross Guild.
However, there are many more ships with at least 5 submissions (from the top of my head, I only kept count for some 😅), so if your ship isn't in here, there's quite a big chance they still have a lot of submissions already, and will likely get in.
There's even a crack ship (and with crack ship I mean a ship between characters who never interacted in canon) that has at least 5 submissions already.

in return for the fic recs i got last month, here are a few fics i read recently that i want to absolutely yell about from the rooftops:
Iron, Fire, Mirror-Glass by PurpleSoot: an early batman days AU where, while slowly healing from a spine-shattering injury, bruce finds an old book about the fae. in a fit of desperation he attempts a Summoning to try to heal his spine. enter: robin.
this story is fantastic—the kind of longfic with a plot so good and satisfying that finishing it leaves you on a reading high for at least a week. one of the best early days bruce fics i’ve ever read, with honorable mentions to excellent alfred and clark and jim and selina characterizations—but robin (dick) really takes the cake here. the balance of chilling, otherworldly, not-quite-human vs. playful, earnest, Still Just a Child…chef’s kiss. the way robin’s character arc drags bruce kicking and screaming through his own emotional growth is so well-paced and well-wrought that i already want to reread just so i can experience it again. this is one of those god-tier longfics that i can’t believe i got to read for free on the internet.
mid-reading testimonial:
Tumblr media
The Lone Ranger Never Had to Deal with Bruce Wayne by @theskeptileptic: a tim-joins-the-family-early fic in which tim decides to do everyone (his parents) a solid by faking his own death and running away to canada, except his weirdo neighbor bruce wayne keeps butting in and messing up his plans.
this is one of the rare stories where tim doesn’t know batman’s identity yet, and even rarer stories where that somehow makes the whole thing even more compelling. this fic has two of my favorite things: small, lonely, moderately unhinged tim drake pov, and really good pangs—pangs that are expertly teased out through flashbacks that add context to the present action at exactly the right moments. also, a very fun cameo near the end. i had a blast reading this one, physically clutched my chest more than once, and am already looking forward to rereading.
mid-reading testimonial (feat. @cairoscene):
Tumblr media
equivalent exchange by scribblemetimbers (wip): an au set during tim’s robin days in which tim discovers 1) crossroads demons are a thing and 2) people can make deals with them. deals that include bringing people back from the dead, so long as you’re willing to pay the price with your own life.
this fic is so…🤌‼️ it feels like everything i want in a fic so far, down to two incredibly specific concepts i love (bruce, in his grief, saying something harsh to robin!tim with disastrous consequences later + tim making a big secret sacrifice gambit) which are both done so so well, within a larger plot that is also done so so well. the way this fic cuts in and out of scenes at the exact right moments for max tension feels like a masterclass in causing me to tear my hair out (in the best way), and instead of assorted pangs reading it is just one big Pang. it currently leaves off on an agonizing cliffhanger but, again, in the best way. highly recommend. (thank you again @owlbats for the rec!)
exchange between me and my friend after i sent the link, which about sums it up:
Tumblr media
and to cut this angst with some humor:
IRIS Log #1548 by @deadchannelradio: a night on patrol as recorded by the bats’ audio logs, centering around red hood getting flung into a ditch and everyone, eventually, getting home safe.
one of the top ten funniest things i’ve ever read—spiritually up there with send to all (and if you’ve seen my fic rec tag you’ll know what a compliment that is). this makes use of the audio log format SO well. the dialogue shines, the jokes land with excellent timing, and it moves at such a clip that it’s pretty much impossible to stop reading once you’ve started. every character shines in this, and i’ve randomly choked on laughter remembering the phrase ‘good god he got thrown like a corn hole beanbag’ like twenty times in the past few weeks.

JANUARY 2006
Shion burst through the living room door, storming over to Ran and waving his phone in his face. “You wanna explain why (Name) just called me up crying because of you?”
“What the fuck are you talking about,” Ran asked through a thick exhale, his thumb idly moving on the joystick of his controller as he picked a location.
Shion rolled his eyes. “I don’t know what I’m talking about. Which is literally why I came here to ask why the fuck you made her cry?”
“I didn’t make anybody cry.”
“Yes you did.”
Rindou glanced over at Shion and fiddled with his controller, amused by the difference in attitudes between both boys. Shion looked like he was two seconds away from throwing his cracked phone at Ran’s face, but was hesitant on doing so because everybody knows how that fight would play out, and Ran looked like it was a regular Sunday afternoon, filled with nothing but playing video games with his brother and snacks.
“I didn’t make anyone cry,” Ran repeated and Shion groaned, rubbing his temples as he remembered how stupid Ran could be and how he lacked in the department of taking accountability. “She called me up and asked if I heard from you and I said yeah, why, then she told me “oh because he hasn’t answered my texts in days so I wanted to check in”, now I come in here expecting to find you dead or something instead you’re just playing fucking video games!”
Ran honestly stopped listening around three words in and successfully chose a location, and a character. Grinning, he nodded over at Rindou as he started to pick his own character.
“Hello?????!” Shion clapped to get Ran’s attention. “Ignoring me doesn’t change anything. In fact, it proves to me that you’re guilty.”
“Dude. What do you want from me?” Ran looked up at Shion, leaning against the back of the leather couch. “You wanted me to stay away from her so that’s what I’m doing. Now you’re mad that I’m staying away from her?”
“Staying away from her doesn’t mean ghosting her. At the very least let her down easy—”
“Shion,” Rindou started, eyes focused on the tv screen. “You sound so whiny right now. Either sit down and shut the fuck up, or get out. You’re ruining my focus and so help me God if I lose to Ran tonight I’ll break every rib in your body.”
“Calm down Rinnie, save that anger and take it up with your therapist.”
Rindou groaned loudly, letting his head roll back against the couch. “I already told you Ran, I’m not seeing a therapist.”
Shion hummed in disagreement. “I think you should. You’ve just about threatened to break every bone in my body this week alone.” Ran snorted and Shion whipped his head to look at him. “Don’t think I’m finished with you yet. I was against this whole relationship with her in the first place, so just apologise to her and let her down easy.”
“Why?” Rindou asked, putting his controller down on his lap to look up at Shion.
His eyebrows pinched in confusion. “Why…what?”
“Why were you against the relationship?”
“B—because,” Shion cursed himself for stammering, also cursed the way Ran raised his eyebrows, probably the first shred of interest he’s shown in the conversation.
“Because you love her?” Rindou asked, not looking away from the tv but was far too aware of the way Shion froze in place. Seconds passed as the two brothers waited for a response.
“Because she’s my friend…” Shion started slowly, hoping the message goes through their heads.
“So?”
“And I don’t want her to get hurt by him.”
“Who said I’d hurt her?” Ran asked, intrigued.
“Your track record of dating speaks otherwise, Ran.” Ran smirked and Shion scowled deeper, crossing his arms over his chest. “That’s not something to be proud of.”
“You only say that because you’re a virgin.”
“I’m not.”
“Yeah, sure whatever.” Ran turned back to the tv and nudged Rindou. “Ready?”
The game started and if their attention spans were already shit before, it was worse now.
“Ran. Just promise me you’ll end things with her nicely…Last thing I want is her calling me up crying again.”
“Yeah yeah, you got it,” Ran responded with a crooked smile.
It was probably the most non-committal answer Shion ever heard, if he was honest, but was probably the only answer he was gonna get so with that, he left the house. After winning the next three rounds of Mario Kart, Rindou ended up rage quitting and stalking off to the gym with Kakucho to take his anger out on some punching bags. Meanwhile Ran stalked up to his room, taking his daily nap. He woke around 11pm, almost hitting midnight and pulled out his phone.
He scrolled past all his messages until he saw yours, all unopened, and felt his heart twitch with guilt for a second as the number of messages over the course of the week started to decrease once you realised he was ignoring you.
He glanced over at the clock once more. You had a tendency of sleeping through the day, awake at night, so taking his chances, he sent you a text.
Your phone pinged as you were washing the dishes, scrubbing the leftover stains from your mother’s wine glasses, a result of her addiction. Rinsing the soap from your hands, you dried them with a paper towel and grabbed your phone, almost freezing when you saw the contact name.
New Message: Ran (¬_¬ )
You up?
You almost got excited, a smile twitching on your face until you remembered the week of radio silence and the barrage of confusing emotions you felt. You should hate him. In fact right now your fingers should be moving to delete his contact, but instead they hover over his text message on your lock-screen. Grumbling, you deleted yet another poorly formed response and called him instead. “What do you want?”
“Easy with the hostility. I wanted to check on you.”
“Oh really? Where was this energy, I dunno. A fucking week ago?!” you barked, leaving the dishes half washed as you stomped up to your room.
“Missed you.”
You blinked at your screen and nearly forgot how to breathe, too blinded with rage. “Are—are you fuckingkidding me?” you rushed out, dumfounded.
“Yeah, I know I fucked up badly,” he sighed on the end of the line and you moved to sit on your bed, face softening a bit with how tired he sounded.
“Is everything okay?”
“Can I see you?” He ignored your question and got straight to business. You had half a mind to turn him down until he said, “Please?”
You were so weak minded, crumbling the second you heard him beg for you. Perhaps it was an ego trip, having someone like Haitani Ran want you that badly. The next thing you knew, your back was arching as Ran’s hands trailed down your body. Pulling his face from your neck, you blindly searched for his mouth, biting his lower lip as he groaned, settling on top of you.
Your arms looped themselves around his neck, moaning in soft pants as his fingers drained downwards, dancing lightly down the line of your stomach and tugged your shorts off your body. The moment they were off, he spread open your legs and pulled away from the kiss.
You sighed happily when his lips trailed down your body, searing burning kisses on your skin. Closing your eyes helped to heighten the senses, guessing where you’d feel his lips next. Your breathing picked up pace as his hands brushed your bare thighs and it took everything in you to resist grinding against his hand as he explored every inch of your body.
The tips of his fingers slipped under your panties, drawing closer to your throbbing clit. He teased your wet slit, circling your finger around your hole, spreading your juices all over your pussy with a low groan. “You’re so fucking wet.”
Your moan hitched in your throat and you bit down to silence it. Not liking that, he looked up at you. “Lemme hear you,” he dipped his finger in slowly, watching your mouth fall open in please, “c’mon, louder.”
“Please,” you moaned, begging him to continue playing with you. “I need it, please. You owe me.”
“I owe you, huh?” He gave you a mischievous grin, inching closer to your face as he pushed more slick from your thighs into your fluttering hole. He was so achingly close you could see every single lash lining his eyes, his lips just barely hovering over yours.
His fingers sped up, twisting his fingers and using his thumb to rub at your swollen clit with precision that felt torturous. It was getting harder to control your moans, uncaring of how loud you were getting as you rocked against his hand, pussy on fire.
“Fucking love your body,” he sounded drunk, burying his face between your breasts. His tongue flicked against your nipple before sucking down, your back arching off the sheets.
“I—I’m still mad at you,” you cursed under your breath, the indignation in your voice wavering, turning to breathless moans as he continued fucking you open with his fingers.
He left your chest, kissing up to your lips to suck the anger and frustration away and replaced it with lust. “I’m sorry baby,” he hummed, biting your lower lip. “You forgive me?”
“No,” you tried sounding serious but your face screwed up as he sped up his fingers. He licked his lips before kissing you again, trying to change your mind but you pulled away with a frown. “Y—you can’t just expect me to forgive you that easily.”
He mulled it over for a moment, glancing at your face as you breathed heavily, trying your hardest to fix your face into a convincing scowl. His fingers pulled out and you were about to protest before he shushed you. “I’m going to fuck you till you forgive me.”
Your face twisted in confusion as he started unbuckling his pants. “W—wait. You can’t just—” you paused, eyes dropping down to his cock hard in his hand.
“Can’t what?” He pulled out a condom from his pocket and you deadpanned at him.
“Seriously? You just have those laying around?”
He smiled, laughing a little. “What? Gotta come prepared.” His hands moved to your legs, spreading you open and eyed your aching pussy, slick covering your inner thighs and bit back a groan. You watched him rip the condom open and thought how that small thing could fit over the length of his cock. It easily slipped down his shaft, stretching obscenely around the width of his shaft.
When he’s wrapped and ready, he grabbed onto your legs, yelping as he tugged you closer and caged you with his arms. You both watched his cock press against your inner thigh, missing your pussy a couple times before sliding in, a soft sigh and groan escaping both of your lips.
Your eyes fluttered shut, biting your lip as your head fell backwards against the pillow.
“Fuck, you feel so good,” he groaned wantonly, looking away from the sinful sight of his cock slowly disappearing inside you to look at your face. Your mouth was open in pleasure and he snagged the opportunity, kissing you senselessly.
“Faster.”
He obliged, dipping his face into your neck, breaths puffing out against your skin as you cried out, nails digging into the blades of his shoulder, then onto his biceps, clutching desperately as your body began to jolt. “Jesus, Ran…!” He hit a spot that nearly had you screaming, his mouth quickly sealing against yours to silence you before your mother woke up.
He was practically slamming into you at this point, pounding your body into the mattress and you could do nothing but whimper into his mouth and scratch deep red lines down the length of his arms. A hazy part of your mind thankful he was doing his best to silence you because the volume of your voice was far beyond your control at this point.
“You forgive me yet,” he asked, pulling away when you tried to surge upwards for another kiss.
You shook your head, keening when he gave another wicked slam of his hips that had you biting back your words.
“Wrong answer.” Abruptly, he pulled out and flipped you over, rearranging your wobbly limbs until you were on all fours. He bent forward until his lips brushed your ears and the heat of his body made you inch backwards, desperate for even a crumb of his touch. He clicked his tongue and grabbed onto your hips, holding you in place as you cursed under your breath. “You forgive me yet?”
“Ran. Stop asking questions and fuck me,” you swore, testing how strong his grip was by attempting to wriggle your hips backwards.
“Answer my question then I’ll fuck you right.”
You groaned into the pillow in protest, fighting back tears as you felt your pussy get wetter, fluttering around nothing. “But I don’t forgive you.”
“Then we’ll wait until you do.”
Your clit throbbed again and you moaned when he nudged your legs apart, licking a stripe along your cunt. “Oh god, Ran.” His hum sent a vibration shooting through his tongue flicking at your entrance, kissing around your folds and the way his lips sealed around your clit had your stubbornness flying out the window.
“Oh.” You steadily rocked back against his face, and he eagerly buried his face into your pussy, the taste of you making his dick twitch between his legs. Your head dropped down, back arching and he held you up by the hips, keeping your ass in the air as he continued to indulge. “P—please Ran. I…I forgive you just fuck me please.”
Ran swiftly sat up, pressing one last kiss to your wet folds before lining his cock up to your entrance. “About fucking time.” His body was tense as he buried his cock back inside you with a groan. You bit down on the pillow, ignoring the wet spot you left behind as his big hand pulled you back down onto his cock, squeezing and grabbing at your ass. You barely had time to catch your breath as his hips snapped ruthlessly back and forth, shoving his cock deeper inside you with every thrust. Your legs gave out, back arching impossibly deeper as you were unable to hold yourself up. This new angle was downright sinful, had you feeling every vein of his cock rubbing against your walls, hands scrabbling uselessly at the sheets.
“Oh fuck I’m close,” he announced with a low groan, your stomach doing flips when you heard how shaky his breathing was. He pulled out, ripped the condom off and flipped you onto your back in record time, cumming on your stomach.
While you were catching your breath, he bent down between your legs and licked along your pussy, teasing and sucking until you were coming undone, soaking the fingers he’d slid inside you.
Once your chest had stopped heaving, he pulled away, licking your taste from his lips. Your body was still shaking from the aftermath of the overstimulation, your arms eagerly wrapping around his body as he laid beside you, lifting you onto his chest and kissed your forehead.
“I don’t actually forgive you by the way,” you added after a moment of silence. “I just said that so you’d fuck me.”
Ran snorted and looked down at you. “That so?” It tickled when your fingers ran down his chest, tracing the swirls of his tattoo.
“Mhm.” You chewed the soft tissue of your cheek, waiting for his response.
He pulled you up to reposition you on his lap as you laid your hands flat in his chest. “I know you don’t mean that.” He ran his hands down your hips and caressed them softly.
“I do,” you frowned.
He sat up slowly and you clung onto his shoulders to avoid slipping. He reached over and grabbed your phone, handing it to you. “Delete my number right now if you do.”
You looked down at your phone then back at his face. “Are you serious?”
He shrugged and nodded at the device. “Go on.”
As you contemplated whether or not this was a trap, he reattached his lips onto your neck, sucking and biting the skin, adding to the litany of marks he left previously. He was obviously doing this to cloud your judgement, and it was working. Your finger hovered over the delete contact button before you sighed, tossing the phone back onto the bed.
“I fucking knew it.” You could practically feel his devilish smile against your neck. You yanked his head from your neck, revealing the smile you pictured wide on his face.
“Shut up,” you said while frowning. He leaned forward, sucking deeply along your lips, eliciting a soft sigh from you as you melted into it.
“What’re you doing for your birthday,” he asked, pulling away for a moment. “It’s next week, right?”
“Um, not much. My friends wanted to throw me a party then Shion said he wanted to take me out afterwards.”
Ran scowled. “Do you like him?” he asked softly, rubbing soothing circles into your hip.
“Who? Shion?” You readjusted yourself on his lap to get a better look at his face. He nodded. “No. No, I don’t. He’s my friend. I don’t see him as anything else.”
There was nothing going on between you and Shion. Being with Shion felt weird and you never thought of him that way. Besides, when you grew up with him, you saw the worst of him, from the time he shaved a circle in the middle of his head as a dare to those snot nosed crying nights when he’d throw a tantrum you couldn’t stay the night. You thought your words were enough to reassure him but Ran still looked unconvinced. Your brain fought to think of something to say but when you fell short, you resulted in pushing your chest up against him, cupping his face in your hands and leaned forward to brush your nose against his.
“I promise, Ran. In fact…you’re the only one I have eyes for right now.” There it was. The inevitable confession. As your worried eyes searched his face for a response, he stayed silent. Your body warmed as his hands hugged tighter around your body and you took that, leaning in slowly and kissed him gently, slowly, until you could feel any doubts he had leaving his body. He kissed you back, tightening his grip on your sides possessively.
“Lemme take you out,” he broke away to speak. “The day after your birthday since your special day is all booked.”
“Yeah?” You smiled and nuzzled your nose against his. “And do what?”
“Whatever you want.” His hands rubbed up and down your naked back, making you feel warm and fuzzy. “Anything.”
You rested your head against his neck and hummed in thought, sending a vibration down his body. “Hmmm, I’ll think about it.” Your arms wrapped around his neck and for a moment he fought the urge to cuddle with you in bed. Being around you was so difficult, especially when he tried to not get attached to you, despising the idea of being soft.
He unhooked your arms from his neck and you pulled away with a confused look on your face. “Is everything okay?” He looked distressed about something and you couldn’t stop the ugly feeling in your stomach from churning.
“I gotta go, it’s late,” he told you, sliding out of bed to scoop his clothes up.
“I mean…you can just sleep over?” You looked at him get changed, trying to hide your frown once he finished. The pout in your voice made a wave of guilt run through his body. He tucked your body under the covers as your bottom lip jutted out in protest of him leaving.
He kissed your forehead. “I’ll text you next week. I promise.”
Present day, 2015
Rindou slammed the car door shut, startling Dona from the backseat. “Jesus, man. What the hell is up with you?”
Rindou grumbled something under his breath and started the car, impatiently drumming his fingers against the wheel as Ran took his time inside the house fixing his suit.
“Hello? Why’re you ignoring me?” Dona waved her hand in his face. “He’s in there right? Or do we have to drive around the whole city tryna find him?”
“Oh he’s in there alright,” Rindou rasped, rubbing his temples.
“You gonna update me on what happened or just sulk in the front seat like a baby.”
He leaned back in his chair and then turned to look at Dona. “If I tell you, you’d get mad.”
Dona’s eyes narrowed. “Why would I be mad?” Rindou stayed quiet, and her patience only grew thinner. “Rindou I will hit you if you don’t spit it out.”
“(Name)’s back.”
~*~
“Wait Ran.” You slipped off the bed, walking to the door before he could leave his room. “What was with Rindou’s reaction before?”
“Oh yeah. I forgot to tell you. He hates you.”
“I can see that,” you sighed, looking down at the floor for a couple moments before looking back at him. “What did you tell him?”
“Nothing really.” Ran shrugged. “Just told him we broke up.”
“That’s all? I don’t see why he’d hate me for that.” You frowned, fighting back a pout as you crossed your arms over your chest. “It’s not like I broke up with him.”
“You know how he gets.” Ran looked at the way you chewed your lip nervously, a habit you always did when you were overthinking. “Come here,” he said, beckoning you closer. You followed suit, slipping between his arms and he pulled you in for a hug. He rested his chin against the top of your head as your arms snaked around his waist. “Stop overthinking stuff. Rin doesn’t hate you. He hates what you did.”
“What did I do though?” you asked quietly, tilting your head to look up at him.
“You left without an explanation.”
“There was an explanation,” you defended yourself. “You know there was.”
“Exactly. I know. He didn’t.”
“Why didn’t you tell him then?” you groaned, looking curiously up at him. “I broke up with you, not him. I have no issues with Rindou.”
“It wasn’t his business,” he responded, the circles he was tracing on your back with his thumbs made you feel dizzy. “And I avoided talking about you. And he thought he’d get answers from you since I wasn’t telling him, then found out you left. So he was mad.”
A slight feeling of guilt pooled low in your stomach as you lowered your head to look at the ground. Reluctantly, you let go of the hug and stepped away from him. “I think you should go to that meeting now. I’ve been hogging too much of your time.”
“Alright baby.” He shrugged his jacket back on and opened the door. “I’ll be back in a few hours.”
“Okay,” you muttered, moving back onto the bed as you watched him leave the room. The second the door shut, you moved to grab your bag and pulled out your phone. You weren’t expecting to see six missed calls from Shion, each call an hour apart, and another feeling of guilt passed through you. “I’m a piece of shit,” you muttered, hitting your forehead with the edge of your phone before turning it back off.
Shion was tomorrow’s problem. You could figure out what to say to him.
~*~
Meanwhile, back in the car, Dona shrieked. “What?! Why?!”
“How the fuck am I supposed to answer that?” Rindou grumbled in response as Ran entered the car door with a hefty sigh.
“Drive already.” He lazily gestured around the wheel with his hands.
“Uh excuse me? You don’t get to boss us around when you’re thirty minutes late to the meeting.” Dona said with a frown, her nose twitching when Ran just laughed under his breath. “Not even a little bit remorseful? Mikey is pissed.”
“Name a day of the week he's not pissed,” Ran responded, looking back at Dona who laughed, mumbling that’s true.
~*~
"Look who finally decided to show up," Sanzu sneered as Ran entered the room.
"What, you missed my presence that bad?" Ran responded as he settled himself into the couch beside Kokonoi. Sanzu rolled his eyes, making Ran's grin grow wider.
"Finally," Mikey sighed, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Is this important or what? Because if it's about my club's sales, then you could've just emailed that shit to me," Ran said in annoyance.
Mikey nodded, clearing his throat before sitting down in his chair. "It's about Naoto."
"Who the fuck is Naoto?" Takeomi said, raising an eyebrow.
"Take a fucking guess," Mikey said sharply, causing everyone in the room to fall silent, except for Ran who yawned loudly.
"What did he do?"
"He's onto us again." Mikey pointed at Mochi. "You told me you had it handled. What's the fucking hold up?"
Mochi shrugged. "I did have it handled. He was off our back for weeks, no?"
"Weeks isn't shit," Sanzu retorted. "Can't we just kill him? He's like a scab. The more you pick at it, the more it bleeds."
"Sanzu, what the hell are you talking about?" Rindou grumbled from his seat, picking at the tips of the strands of hair falling over his face.
"I'm sayinggggg," Sanzu continued, "instead of burying information to get him off our tracks, we just bury him instead."
Mikey shook his head. "No. Bad idea."
"Why?!"
"Because," Mikey responded, saying no more. The group of men stared at him expectantly. When silence descended upon the room once more, Kakucho spoke up.
"Is this about Takemichi and all of them?"
Mikey slid his eyes over to Kakucho. "What?"
"You're hesitating on hurting Naoto because he's friends with Draken and Takemichi and all of them, no? If it were any other cop, you would've just killed them already. But we've been running around in circles with Naoto for almost a year now and nothings changed. I agree with Sanzu. We should just kill him."
"I said no," Mikey responded, harsher than before, effectively shutting Kakucho up. "If you have anything to say then say it."
"Nothing else, sir."
"Good." Mikey turned back over to look at Ran. "Naoto is onto you the most." When Ran raised an eyebrow, Mikey continued. "He found out one of the clubs you own and is getting his men to go undercover at your clubs, snooping around for shady business. Just wanted to tell you to watch out."
"He's not gonna find anything." Ran responded calmly, kicking his feet onto the table with a thud, ignoring Mikey's complaint to get his feet off the table. "He's an idiot if he thinks I'd do my business in broad daylight."
"Well regardless how confident you are, just watch out. If he finds anything, it won't take long before he finds other things."
"You got it." Ran pushed his chair back and stood up, stretching. "That all?"
Mikey nodded. By the time Ran made it back home, you were fast asleep on his bed, phone unlocked in your hand. He grabbed your phone and slid his finger across the screen, pausing briefly at your message history. Your phone was practically empty. It was sad to look at. You stirred in your sleep, taking notice of his presence. "Hey," you murmured sleepily, peeking a single eye open.
"Hey sleepyhead." He paused, putting your phone back down. "Go back to sleep."
"But I want to talk to you."
"About what?" He sat on the bed, watching you closely. "Haven't you been talking enough today? You need sleep."
"I don't," you grumbled, curling up against his arm. "I need to talk to Shion," you murmured, half asleep.
"Why do you wanna talk to Shion?" He questioned, sounding more confused than anything.
"Because I blew him off," you spoke without thinking, yawning with each passing word. "He's probably angry at me. Maybe I'll make him feel better by apologising."
"You blew him off? How so?"
"I'm such an asshole," you moaned softly, slouching further into his side. He ran his hand down your back in a soothing motion. "I haven't called or texted him yet. I just...walked out without saying anything. That must've hurt him. I can't believe I did that."
"Yeah, well..." He trailed off, patting the top of your head, not knowing what else to say. "To be honest, I have no clue what you're talking about right now. It's cute you still talk in your sleep though."
You sighed deeply, closing your eyes again, mumbling something incoherent under your breath and drifted back to sleep.

if you got complete control over DC and got to write a Jason solo comic, how would you go about it? or like what would be the story??
you're indulging me!
well, my first preference would probably be writing a jason-never-died elseworld and this is what i'm doing with my series robin vol 2. or something like 80s retroactive but longer, so essentially a robin jay series that we were robbed of.
but i'm presuming you are asking about what i would do with the main timeline... i guess if you've been following me for a while, nothing on this list will come as a surprise, because it's simply a combination of my own meta dressed in plot points... i'm just not sure how i would organise it, since i mostly think about these in terms of fanfiction, so it's a bit fragmented in my head. but i think it would be doable to combine those:
addressing the current mess in canon: unavoidable. i always imagined (and by always i mean i've had that image in my head for at least 5 years now) if i were to write a comicbook script for jay i would start with the classic simple layout showcasing the more sunny (early days robin jay's) version of gotham but with panels shaped like shattered glass imposing on it, displaying different contradicting pieces of canon and culminating with the question of who *the real* jason todd is, as a nod to countdown asking the same. dc actually attempted to do something when the infinite frontier was first introduced, it just wasn't very well executed... (and as far as i know the hypertime is still supposed to be relevant so it would work...)
since i already started talking about countdown it could also contain some multiversal insight into all the other worlds in which jason todd is alive.
or maybe an idea i once dropped here, with the mystical serpentine of magical fog (the one from the lost days and the end of the utrh when jason presumably is brought back to life once again) traveling through the scenes of flashbacks of other characters (perhaps even just a reflections of retcons!) tarnishing jason's memory when he's dead, cut to kid jay literally stirring in the coffin, and finally an adult jason waking up with a jolt in the final scene. so many options.
you get the image. i wish that dc utilised the weirdness of the meta in a serious way, and that the talk of the past was a talk of the history of comics in a sense... as i previously expressed here.
as you all know by now my reading of jason (and batman in general even) is mostly based on the 80s... and so it would be a love letter to this era. i would definitely want to include some robin jay stories there as well, maybe make jason investigate cases that date back to his childhood and are somehow interconnected, creating a bridge between the narratives and reconciling them.
ending what i call the long funeral - jason's era of remaining dead both socially and to the narrative. what i have in mind is an arc in which he is working on a case that seems to have to do with magic/ghosts, but that ultimately turns out to be a case of corruption and plain police brutality. two things here: i would want him to fuck up spectacularly so that he starts questioning his modus operandi and dedication to vigilantism in general. and it would set up the ground for the introduction of abolitionism and link the story to his early ethical framework.
a retirement arc. jason's proper come back to the crime alley and reintroduction to the land of living (the alley might be a graveyard to bruce but it's a home to jason...) and very importantly, a cast of civilians! leslie is definitely back. i would also love to use dana & denise, and maybe even some pre-crisis characters.
i would fridge bruce. put him out of commission basically, death or not. and i'm not saying batman jay era but actually i am saying batman jay era. (i once again can't find a link to the post explaining my bat jay agenda but if it's of your interest i can elaborate.)
a two-face story. about forgiveness or rather about the fact that it never quite passed. and about willis.
the themes... the motifs... you know me. ouroboros and self-mythologization and the sacrifice and catholicism (probably not in a way you think) and family duty. and politics. here you can also guess what i'm thinking about, and it's a revolutionary abolitionist turn.
and to conclude: big words but i would use jason to bring love back to the gotham lore and batman titles in general. he is a character that has always stood in the centre of both values and challenges that the story faced. if he's not treated with consideration and not taken seriously, nothing in it is.

'Deadly' Iconic (literally)
I came across an intriguing post while scrolling through my Twitter—or X, whatever you call it—timeline. The post shows a picture (shown below), with this caption:
Which character is this?
Tumblr media
Since I was in the mood to type a rather long thread at that time, I wrote—or typed—my ass off in my private Twitter account (which only has 4 followers). It was only a week later that I thought, "I probably should have posted it on Tumblr instead," so here you go.
Note: Since I originally posted this on Twitter, the writing was not good (I tend to just typed down whatever I have in mind when on that app), so I edited it to make it more readable.
Well, since I'm still in the after effect of Strangers from Hell, I'd say it's Seo Moonjo. His role is so damn iconic that I, and probably many other watchers, didn't even realize that his screentime was only around an hour... in the whole goddamn series that's about 10 hours long in total. In other words, his screentime was just one-tenth of the whole show, very contrasting to the fact that he was literally the second lead character in said show. What is even more mind blowing is the fact that I only realized how short his screentime was because the actor himself mentioned this, not because I realized it on my own.
To quote, the actor, Lee Dong-wook, said: "I'm not greedy for screentime. I used to be, but when i was playing in Strangers from Hell, I only appear in the show for about an hour in total, but it turns out people like my character so much, and the feedback was so good... Since then, I am never greedy of main character roles anymore and always try to make my own character special, in their own way, instead."
To conclude, he said that it doesn't matter (anymore) to him which role he got to play. In a good show, each character always has their own appeal, and as long as the actor/actress plays the character well, that character will shine no matter how trivial their role in the story is.
I (as a spectator who merely watches movies or dramas and read books then try to analyze them in the most objective way) think that this is very true. A lot of characters in iconic books and shows are dead already in the plot's current time, and are only shown in flashbacks, but they are imprinted on the readers' or watchers' mind more than the living characters do.
A very good example is the character Donquixote "Corazon" Rosinante in the manga (and anime) One Piece. He was already dead long ago and was only shown in Trafalgar Law's childhood flashbacks, but damn i think more than half of the One Piece fandom love him so much, and the other half really like him. (there's even a saying that goes, you are not a human if you hate on two One Piece characters; Corazon (Rosinante's nickname), and Bon Chan.)
Another One Piece character (yes this is the manga I love the most) is "Red Haired" Shanks. He was the father/mentor/role model figure to the main character, Monkey D. Luffy, and he first appeared on the story in Luffy's memory of his childhood.
Since then, he only appeared in like two to three panels (around 10-20 seconds in the anime) for every 100 chapter/episode (I am not even exaggerating), but still, he is actually one of the most iconic and awaited character in the whole manga/anime, which has more than 600 characters in total. He even quite easily places in "Top 10 Most Iconic One Piece Characters" lists no matter who made the list.
This, in it's own way, is quite like what happened with Seo Moonjo's character in Strangers from Hell, who only appeared in one-tenth of the show but at the same time is also the number 1 most iconic and memorable character there.
Anyway, in the same way that Shanks is similar to Seo Moonjo, I think Corazon's character is similar to Jeong Jinman's in A Shop for Killers (also played by Lee Dong-wook). They're both dead characters that only appear now and then through one of the main characters' memory, but they're so iconic that, in Jeong Jinman's case, it sometimes make the watchers forget he's not actually the main character.

JJK chapter 246 thoughts below
Because the official chapter’s translations last week were disappointing in a couple of ways, I read the fan translation. Keeping all my thoughts here until the official one drops!
I loved this chapter a lot! :’)
MEGUMI.
I have been SO confident that yuuji is trying to save megumi since he was taken over that I am unbelievably satisfied, especially after seeing way too many posts that megumi is 100% dead or has no chance. I’ve been slightly bitter at seeing so many theories about Gojo coming back that don’t make sense when it would be a crime if he came back but not Megumi (or Nobara). The only question is whether or not Yuuji will actually be able to save Megumi or if either will die in the process—for my own sake, I’m believing in the power of friendship. Also, I wish there were date/time stamps for the flashbacks, since it’s hard to remember when in the time skip it is.
And LOVE that Yuuji was the one that came up with that plan. Nothing will ever be easy and there’s no way this plan can go right without more death, but that little sliver of hope is fantastic. I can always rely on Yuuji being the “humanity” of the team. Thinking back to when Hana and him off-handedly wondered if Gojo forgot about Megumi during the fight. It’s nice having two people who are invested in saving Megumi when the situation is dire.
Did Choso getting punched x2 straight through the chest and stomach worry me? Yes, but he’s not dead and Yuuji didn’t look devastated, so I’m taking this as a positive that he’s out of the fight for now. If he wasn’t a half curse and it wasn’t so casual, I’d be concerned. Sukuna does NOT like either of the siblings since he’s met both. Very sweet that Yuuji caught him the second Sukuna threw him aside.
The color page (which looks incredible) is fueling my belief that Maki is with Yuuta as help with Kenjaku. That, or the current team is the first round of fighters and they’ll need her soul sword for something last-minute sukuna related, but I just wouldn’t be surprised if the jujutsu high second years stuck together.
Higuuuuuuuurumaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa <3
I love him. “Sukuna found himself completely enthralled—“ same
No really, I’ve adored his character since chapter 159 released and I’m so happy that one of my favorite characters is getting all this. I already have other posts lined up for when the official chapter drops, but I love him.
His conversation with Yuuji was dark, but I love these quiet moments of insight. Such a good chapter for all these tiny character moments with interesting implications.
Despite my disappointment at the trial ending so soon, I like this fight and I think Sukuna does too (for Higuruma). The end pages about Higuruma’s quick learning and adaption to sorcery is exactly what I wanted to see!
(Continuing) Higuruma is essentially a tired lawyer new to sorcery and is not nearly as overpoweringly strong as Gojo, yet the manga states he rivals Gojo in raw talent and adaptability. Realistically, he doesn’t and can’t have that overpowered strength to the degree of Gojo, but I love how that doesn’t diminish the skills he does have and shows how valuable these characters can be (and it’s not JUST talent, but how their mindset around life and sorcery too). They don’t have to be overpowered to have a profound impact and be smart in their fighting.
(Continuing) I remember seeing comments after Gojo died that there was no use because there can’t be a way for the protagonists to defeat Sukuna without a deus ex machina, plot armor, etc. But I hoped the story would lean into the characters’ strengths and have them work together to find a smart way with combined effort to take down Sukuna, rather than Gojo be the magical solution to killing Sukuna and Kenjaku. So this chapter worked in a lot of ways for me.
(Continuing) It’s the same reason why Yuuji turning his role put on him (by others and himself) as a cage/tool into something significant in this fight is very compelling. At a surface level, these characters are much weaker than Sukuna, but I think they genuinely have a chance. Plus, it’s more entertaining to have a team fight in jjk and, despite still heavily incorporating the power system, I find this fight to already be more emotional and investing than the Gojo Sukuna one. Not to be overly negative on that last fight (there’s good moments in it and the fighting itself is fun), but this is what I wanted from JJK!
More people will die at some point. Better not be Choso (Yuki died for him so that had better not go to waste immediately), but could honestly be anyone. I do think there’s going to be a moment where things do end up going right for the protagonist team, but that could be a long time from now. Kusakabe being surprised at himself for his willingness to die to protect Higuruma was??? Adorable??? A duo I never considered, but I need them to survive (unlikely) and interact more now that I’m thinking of how well they’d get along.
Another long review of a jjk chapter, but had a great time with this one! At this point, I mention it weekly, but Sukuna in his original form is beautiful every time I see him and im very happy to have him in that form for this fight.

Why you should vote for Sparrow Ben in the Spiteful Bitches bracket
[Plain text: Why you should vote for Sparrow Ben in the Spiteful Bitches bracket. End plain text.]
A masterpost of reasons why he is the most spiteful bitch of all. I tried to mostly stick to that theme, but I also included a few funny moments, and a bit of explanation of the character so you can understand him better if you don't watch the show.
Warning: Major spoilers for The Umbrella Academy season 3!
Tumblr media
[ID: Sparrow Ben Hargreeves, from "The Umbrella Academy." He is facing away from the viewer, shirtless. The word "asshole" is written on his back, in all caps. His right arm is up in the air, as he holds up his middle finger. End ID.]

@spitefulbitches
He's an alternate timeline version of the Umbrellas' dead brother, who was also named Ben. Umbrella Ben was beloved by his siblings and the fandom, often described as the kindest of the Umbrellas. After a heartbreaking scene in which his ghost disappears for good, the Umbrellas end up in a new timeline, and come face to face with Sparrow Ben. Their beloved dead brother is now alive... but he's not the same Ben, he doesn't know them, and he's also a huge dick now.
A bitch since his literal first moment onscreen; his very first line in the series is "Dad? Who the hell are these assholes?"
He had this emo hairstyle in his first appearance (the s2 cliffhanger finale). It was then retconned to a spikier hairstyle in s3 (and both of them are so stupid, god bless).
Tumblr media
[ID: Sparrow Ben in the season 2 finale. He has an "emo" hairstyle, with bangs hanging over one side of his face. He has a slightly confused expression. End ID.]
Extremely uptight, irritable, and hostile. Always angry, annoyed, or scheming. He will insult or even physically hurt someone (even his own siblings) with little to no provocation. He's vicious, but so over-the-top it's almost comical.
He used to be Number One (AKA the leader) of his superhero team, the Sparrows. For a currently unknown reason, he was demoted to Number Two, and he has been bitter about it ever since.
Fist-fought a 13-year-old with no hesitation. Five, the kid, is actually a 58-year-old man stuck in a 13-year-old body, but Ben didn't know that. He also didn't know at the time that Five had powers. As far as Ben knew, Five was just a normal 13-year-old. He had 5 adults and 1 kid to choose from when the fight broke out, and he immediately went for the kid. He punches said kid multiple times, wraps his arms around his neck, and attempts to use his power on him (eldritch tentacles that emerge from his chest).
Kidnapped The Umbrellas' Number One (Luther) when the Sparrows' Number One (Marcus) disappeared, without even knowing for certain that the Umbrellas were the ones who took him (they weren't).
When Luther asked where Marcus was, Ben reacted by stabbing a fucking knife into the table they were eating at, and saying "That's what we'd like to know."
Decided that Marcus' disappearance was his chance to take his place as leader again. He spoke like it was a burden he had to bear, but it was clearly what he wanted.
When his sister/teammate Fei brought up his demotion from leader, he grabbed one of her crows, crushing it with his hand. Due to Fei's connection with her crows, she felt the pain as well.
Upon finding out that the Umbrellas were possibly linked to Marcus' disappearance, Ben decided to attack them without finding out the full story. He commanded his brother Christopher to use his debilitating electricity on them, then commanded the rest of his siblings to kill them.
Slapped Fei in the face for saying he was a shitty leader, then told her that she was the real problem.
Fei is right by the way. He tends to act impulsively and irrationally, without thinking his plans through. He doesn't care about the team, he just wants to be the one calling the shots.
In a flashback, he took a training session way too damn seriously. Once he had his sister Jayme restrained with his tentacles, he threatened her by saying "Either tap out or pass out, it's your choice." *leans in* "Hey, it's your life." He then proceeded to tighten his grip on her, smiling sadistically as he hurt her, despite the others' protests.
Rage quit and stormed out of the room when Jayme managed to escape and win the match.
Witnessing a relationship-ruining argument between two siblings, he sat down with a giant jar of cheese balls and started making bets. He visibly enjoyed said argument, which ended with one of them being punched.
Tumblr media
[ID: Ben, sitting next to Five, and holding a large plastic jar of cheese balls. Ben looks offscreen, watching intensely, and says, "Twenty bucks on the little one," before eating a cheese ball. End ID.]
HAS A FUCKING POSTER OF HIMSELF HANGING ABOVE HIS BED LMAO. I WILL LITERALLY NEVER GET OVER THIS [Plain text: Has a fucking poster of himself hanging over his bed lmao. I will literally never get over this. End plain text.]
Said, "Stop crying on my bedsheets, emo" to a man who was grieving a loved one's death.
His reaction to his sister Sloane being engaged to Luther was "Kill me. Jesus." *drinks from flask* (This one is pretty fair in context, I just think it's really funny.)
To recap: Ben kidnapped Luther, antagonized Luther's family for the whole season, physically attacked multiple of them, and even attempted to kill them at one point. After all of this, Luther didn't invite Ben to his bachelor party, and Ben was fucking pissed about it. 5 out of his 6 siblings were dead, all of existence was being torn apart, and the thing that upset him the most was not being invited to the bachelor party of a guy he didn't even like. He would not fucking let it go.
Did the Sharpay pose on a balcony while brooding about not being invited.
Moments after doing said pose, he said "Ugh. What-ever!" while looking in a mirror. Why is he literally a mean girl
Said the line "Let's get this over with before I die of cringe" at his sister's wedding. [Plain text: his sister's wedding. End plain text.]
The only time in the whole season he ever relaxed, was genuinely nice to people, and enjoyed himself was when he was super drunk at the wedding.
This episode is when we start to see another side of him. That's right, he's not pure anger and malice, he has depth! Remember the whole "alternate version of the Umbrellas' beloved brother" thing? The Umbrellas are constantly comparing him to their Ben, saying how much better he was. It turns out, these comments hurt Sparrow Ben more than he lets on. His shitty dad always made him feel like he's not good enough, and he's insecure about it. Deep down, he really just wants people to like him, and his father to be proud of him. He also states that the Sparrow Academy is all he has, which is why it's so important to him.
All that said- he's still fucking horrible lmao. He's so damn hostile to everyone for no reason, and then gets upset when people don't like him. Why is he like this.
The morning after the wedding, once sober, he returns to his normal bitchy self.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID 1: Ben, shirtless, says intensely and angrily: "I hate you."
ID 2: Angrier, Ben says, "I do, I do, I really do." He turns and walks away. The word "asshole" is written on his back, in all caps. End ID.]
This is, of course, shortly followed by the image at the top of this post. Honestly, I think that image alone should be enough to convince you.
Kept trying to convince the others to go on this super important and dangerous mission to save the universe, and then once they were there, he just bitched and watched the others fight instead of helping. (He did eventually help when it really mattered though, and it was super cool and badass. I love him.)
His final line of the season is "I'm out, bitches!"
In conclusion, he is the definition of spiteful bitch. He is so unbelievably terrible, but he also has hidden depths. He's a genuinely complex and fascinating character, but he's also a fucking loser and I love bullying him. I could go on about him forever. Trust me when I say this post is me holding back.
If none of the above convinced you to vote for him... please, at least do it for me. He's my absolute favorite character, and I love him so much. I want him to win so badly that I stayed up all night working on this post. Excessive, yes, but it has to count for something.
If not for me, then do it for Justin.
Thank you so much for reading! Vote for Ben!

FtPverse Daily Signup Sheet
interested in having aproximately 2000 words of my KH fic FtPverse delivered to your email inbox every other day or so, so you can book club it along with me and a handful of other people??
- - > sign up here!! < - -
starting: February 1st, 2023!
~more info below~
what even is ftpverse??
FtPvese is my KH fic that’s primarily about Repliku getting a second chance at life and learning how to be loved, but also about a lot of other things; traumatized teens learning how to heal, kh’s clone narative turned to the max, replicas, and a totally unique clone of Sora coping with wanting to be his own person. you know, normal kingdom hearts stuff.
you can read the whole promo post I made about it here
.
logistics notes
- we’re doing a manual email list because it’s the best option for getting the actual prose in your email exactly like dracula daily did, rather than having to click on links
- this will probably take about 2 years to do, becuase 1million words is... a lot of words... I could only manage it in one year if I sent out an email Every Single Day, and I had enough people tell me that’s too frequent for them that I’m not gonna do it! we’re doing every other day instead, and maybe even take holidays off.
- 3000 words might be a more accurate average, but very rarely are there chapters over 5000 words, and most 3000 word emails are going to be because i combined two 1.5k chapters into one email (trying to get this done in 2 years, not 4!). chapters do get progressively longer over time.
- I’ll probably be sending out short little intro thoughts on each email (like, three sentences, max,) just for ~connection~ (and bc I like babbling) instead of me just. tossing you the prose uncommentated. author’s notes....
- because of this, I think I’ll probably be sending a copy of each email to ftpverse.dreamwidth.org as well for archival purposes.... so if you really really don’t want to give me your email, you can just subscribe to this journal. (I might not actually do this, but if I change my mind, i WILL tell you!)
- since ftpverse.dreamwidth.org is ALSO a community, it’s open to members joining and posting entries about current events as of [wherever we are in the ftpdaily posting] . like, AO3 comments are a perfectly valid place to have disccusions as well, but. fun bonus option.....
.
ftpverse general content warnings
> ftpverse is a story about abuse / trauma recovery. physical and emotional abuse are both shown in flashback, and repliku is regularly put in situations that trigger him. (sexual abuse does not happen anywhere, so it is free of that.)
> three of the main characters are suicidal; they work through it and come out better at the end, but dead inside is a rough one until that point.
> there is an attempted suicide on screen; the character lives, but the details are spoilers. it and another spoilery content warning will be linked below.
> several characters struggle with depression / a lack of self worth. they get better, but dead inside is a rough one, because there isn’t a light at the end of the tunnel for most of those characters until all that remains.
> nothing’s fair is a terminal illness analogue; this is the other one that i have spoiler elaboration for
> becuase i thought i was cishet when i started writing it, it’s a little heteronormative at the start. it’ll get better.
> i started writing ftpverse in 2010, when i was 13, and finished it 8 years later. do with that information what you will, but mostly i’m saying the technical writing quality WILL improve, you just have to give it time.
> spoiler content warnings are here

I’ve never hated a movie this much in a long time
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 made me so mad that I'm breaking this random rambling blog out of retirement
I'm seriously the "enjoy everything" guy. I'm not really interested in Marvel much at all anymore, but I do honestly expect to go to a Marvel movie and have a good, simple time. But like… for some reason this one feels like a special kind of bad. I guess that's because the solution to all my genuine problems was so close.
The ONE thing I genuinely, honestly believe is an issue is that this movie isn't about Rocket enough. Everything else is stylistic junk I should've expected to have an issue with, cuz of course modern Marvel art style is just, like, awful (because it's not fully animated). But I swear
Here's the pitch: Keep all of Rocket's flashbacks as is, and keep the overall current time throughline of the crew trying to save him, but SERIOUSLY cut them down. Like, a lot a lot.Pretty much any time any form of Rocket (near-dead or young) was genuinely good content. Obviously super grim and intense for a Marvel movie, but I feel like something like that was basically guaranteed to be his backstory anyway, so I was actually hoping to see it through. Also, Floor (spider bunny) was so utterly perfect that I honestly might buy a plush of her (him? them?) and thus end up fuelling the very thing I'm criticizing in this post but I can't help it, they were a seriously amazing design. And I even have a disagreement with some of the criticism, I'm hearing from multiple (2) places that people (two people) didn't like how the main villain was so utterly despicable that they didn't like it, while I actually like him. Maybe it's my character designer brain both liking purple and also his tacked-on skinface. His weird eccentricness was really fitting for someone who believed he was god. I think the only reason he felt so despicable was because he was abusing animals, while I think if he was just your average planet-conqueror he would either be a little fun or boring. I also really liked the line someone (I think Quill) said where his crew were basically responsible for certain whole civilizations across the universe, and that they would actually call them gods.
The problem was everything in between these scenes. They tried to make this a Guardians movie when it really should've been a Rocket Raccoon movie. And yeah, I get that they wanted to call it a Guardians movie, but they still made it so much of Rocket's movie that every random interpersonal conflict not involving Rocket just felt like filler junk. I guess the fact that I knew these conflicts would be resolved by the end of the movie made them feel like petty squabbling in the moment. It's even worse with Quill and Gamora, because I honestly thought Gamora was straight-up dead from the Infinity War junk, but I guess she's just back now, minus her memories? I used to think I understood what was going on with the whole Marvel Cinematic Multiverse but I guess now I have to admit I'm out of the loop. Was there some series that established what happened to her that I heard nothing about? I don't remember one but there also have been like dozens coming out and being announced a month so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Same goes with the Soviet space dog, although that was clearly meant to be a much less deep character so I could excuse it then. I do like the prospect of the Guardians as characters being more like a rotating cast instead of a set group.
(Also the whole concept of the Yondu-tech with the whistling and the arrow and such is still one of the coolest character design traits ever. I still will keep that much true to my heart)
But yeah anyway, not only did I really not care about most of the "important" stuff happening with the current-time shenanigans, the fact that they had the usual Marvel jokiness about it half of the time really caused some serious tonal whiplash at some points. Like, in the flashback where Purple Guy (I don't remember his name if he had one) shoots all Rocket's buddies to death and as Lila utters her last dying wish to see the sky it still cuts back to the random group banter of the other characters just being goofballs amidst the chaos. Seriously? We just witnessed the most traumatizing event in a cartoon animal's life, where his friends were murdered right before his eyes by his captor, and we still go back to that? Can't we just have some kind of emotional parachute? Maybe like a cutaway to some little trinket Rocket kept around that reminded him of them? Or at least Groot watching over the holograms they had in that meatball they stole so we can share the emotions with one of the characters?
And really, the thing that really capped it all off with the worst possible ending was the fact that Rocket didn't fucking murder the Purple Guy. What kind of catharsis is that? He literally could've just held the gun to his head and shot him dead, but I guess for some reason the Guardians have this bullshit pathos to bad guys, even though they just DON'T. They murdered dozens of random soldiers to get to where they were, BUT FOR SOME REASON THE SOLE CAUSE OF IT ALL DESERVES TO LIVE (or die ambiguously in a ship explosion, still is bullshit). Purple Guy deserved all the pain and suffering he inflicted on not only Rocket but literally all of his creations, even his lackeys, and yet for some reason they couldn't just shoot him. And not even that, but they (Nebula) clearly didn't have an issue stabbing that Sovereign guy in the heart. Was somehow terrorizing their town more bad than destroying an entire planet of your own creation? And the worst part is that Rocket was kind of defeatist about it too, like he sounded like he wanted to shoot him, but thought his buddies would be mad at him, even though his buddies were the ones killing everyone to save him. Quill literally said verbatim to Groot "Okay you can kill them all now" and then jumped off a ship to drive one of the scientist guys into the ground to scoop out his fucking brains. And even Groot, the guy who seems like he should be the most pacifistic of them all, fucking launched his arm into one of the experiments' throats to gore him from the inside with his spiky branches. Are you fucking kidding me? Even I was like "This is the shit they would rather show kids instead of a naked boob?"
Seriously. A boob on screen would send this up to like an R rating nowadays, but apparently that, or multiple situations where one of the experiments' heads gets torn off, or their body gets sliced in half, or idk maybe a guy shooting fucking innocent little animals keeps it at a safe family film rating. Shit's like a normalized Liveleak video.
And one last thing before I get to the less important stuff, Quill had the audacity to be the fake out death at the end when Rocket was clearly the only emotional core of the movie. It would've been so much more impactful if Rocket was the one who nearly died there. We saw his trauma all over screen, he saved his (other) animal buddies, and if doing so nearly cost him his life that would've been so much more impactful. Plus, the fact that he's not the mainest of the main characters also means there's a small chance he might actually fully die there. AND let's not forget the fact that in like the first or second movies, the exact same thing happened to Quill before and literally all they had to do to save him was to put a helmet on him. How could no one on their whole spacefaring colony have some sort of helmet to just throw out to him? Like this is turbonerd-critic-who-cares-way-too-much-about-plot-holes territory but I'm genuinely annoyed at that scene. I think it pisses me off because it wasn't just some throwaway detail in the past movies, it was the biggest deal because I think it was like Gamora or Yondu or someone who passed over their only helmet to save him, so the fact that that's how you help someone dying in the vacuum of space being so present in this series and they just completely ignored it just shows serious lack of care on whoever chose that to be the case's part.
I feel like I should leave it at that for the serious stuff, but I obviously have a lot of random stylistic annoyances that are obviously just par for the course and I really shouldn't be angry about but I still am so
The simplest one is the music, and I feel like this annoys me more because my dad specifically actually really likes music choices like this. I realized this about him when we watched Lightyear and he was explicitly disappointed that Starman wasn't directly in the movie even though it was in all the trailers. He said something like "Movies need to have good music in them" which in principle I agree with, but the fact that he basically meant it as "Movies need to insert more classic songs into their movies" kind of annoys me honestly. I can actually like it in the first Guardians movie since back then it was a unique vibe for superhero stuff to have, but now it's so beaten down that I am really just over it. Really here specifically I have no right to be annoyed since it is truly a part of the Guardians brand, but yeah it is annoying. I do want movies to have good music, but good ORIGINAL music. Like either songs made for the movie (Sunflower and What's Up Danger, again Spiderverse does it right) or actually, somehow, make a score that actually has any degree of staying power at all. Between the "Oh I remember that song haha!" moments was still the most generic "I'm a movie" drivel. It almost made the emotional climaxes for anything besides Rocket's backstory feel really overblown because of how hard they tried to make the music carry the very shallow emotional weight of all of it. And the funny thing is that I do actually know an example, and it's Unicorn Warriors Eternal. Only 3 episodes so far and it's already one of the best cartoons I've seen, and it manages to have a completely original score that doesn't sound like it's trying to be a standalone track you buy the single for, and still matches the tone of the scene its all used for too. There have been multiple points where I've been taken aback at the score being both catchy in its own right but being really good and fun for the goofy scenes its used in. Modern cartoons are still the pinnacle of stories honestly I swear
And I guess I'm basically just going to be saying that all again because this has officially been the worst of both CGI and Practical Effects at the same time. Neither are good. Both suck. Both were terrible in this movie. Every fantastical property ever should be fully animated (or at least have impressive artistry on display like Dark Crystal or something, even though I still don't really like Dark Crystal).
The most hilariously bad part was unfortunately a part of Rocket's backstory, in the weird evolution chambers the purple guy made, where he puts in a completely normal, real animal, presses a button, and the animal turns into a crazy CGI fest transformation sequence, then literally a guy in an animal mascot costume. I can't believe it. Did no one in the editing bay look at that and think "That's what we're going with? Really?" And here's the solution: Just do it with CGI. This is where practical effects completely suck ass. Shit looked like one of the classic TMNT movies. Even if the CGI wouldn't nearly be animated correctly to truly mimic real life, it would've at least not looked pathetic. Stupid is better than pathetic. And Rocket and all the cyborg experiments are CGI anyway, as is everything else in the movie, so like… was it to save money? Do they not have money anymore? What's the point of me buying a Floor plush if they're just gonna pull trash like this?
The iffy part was with the humanoid animals in the suburb on Counter-Earth, because I truly got the joke (weird animal people in a super generic American landscape), but it still was almost too ridiculous to even get the joke good enough. I was so close to enjoying it, but I still think it would've been better if they all were extra weird in the way only CGI could provide. Think about it, a weird blob monster with like 5 malformed legs, 3 arms, a melted face, but in a polo t-shirt and khakis mowing a well-pruned lawn would've been so much better. Not just someone who's clearly just a human with a lot of makeup and plastic on their face. Or, in this case I feel like they were adapting an exact moment from the comics, and I can only imagine that moment was so much better then because of the stylistic way you can represent these people. This is a big case where my catchphrase of "animate everything" Actually makes so much more sense
And the last case is of course with everyone else. I'm still making it a mission statement of my own sci-fi universe-sprawling world to have plenty of body types that aren't just "human but with weird face parts." And I'm extra mad here because there was ONE background character that was exactly what I wanted, in between all the random humans with face paint. It was when the Ravagers first boarded the ship and Gamora came out, one of them was this weird mouthless serpent guy with Dr Strange powers who speaks in visualizing emoticons with magic. First of all, the fact that he uses normal ass emojis was actually funny and I liked it, but aside from that when he first came on screen I was seriously like "WHO IS HE????" because I'm so not used to any character being that cool looking. Again, this is what CGI can do right. It can show you weird monsters that actually look interesting and show diversity in this world which is supposed to take into account every single species that exists across every planet ever. Man, if only there were a show that took place exclusively in space that was expertly animated and character-designed to actually represent all the weirdness that can happen across the univer--Oh wait it exists it's Wander Over Yonder my favorite show of all time funny how that works anyway
The last bit was all the suits and stuff all the guard people were wearing, especially on that fleshy starbase thing. My mom put it perfectly, where it feels like the era of sci fi in things like Sharkboy and Lavagirl or Spy Kids 3D where they just look so stupid and goofy. Back then, it's charming because it was a product of the time. Now, it just looks dumb. The whole location was made to show like how flesh can be bent to their whim or whatever, right? Why not make it so their armor is much more obviously fleshy, and also directly attached to their skin instead of being an obvious suit they just put on? That would be much more fitting.
And I'll make this the last thing, I actually loved that fleshy place. I am a BIG proponent of meatbending, or whatever term you want to use, both in general but especially in a more normal, nonhorrific light. When they were sawing into the walls of that place and lifted up the removed core I was disgusted, but in an intrigued kind of way. And I was blown out of the water when they walked around inside, and not only were the nonorganic parts still cool looking and unique, but the sheer design potential of decorative flesh was extremely cool to see. I was especially interested in the fact that they shaped plants out of flesh, which was hilarious, but even things like one of the spy cameras being a giant eye, and a floating flesh blob thing leaking plasma-like goop. I LOVE that. I want more of it. Make that one yelling Spongebob meme in your head but with flesh tech or whatever, it's seriously cool and rarely done.
Anyway that's it whatever time to get back to the stuff I actually like, like damn that new Pokemon series is kinda aiming to be pretty good ngl

what are ur dissociative/did HCs for shelby? :0
I HAVE. A LOT OF HEADCANONS. none of them are really "applicable" to canon yet, exactly, but they arevery very important to how I write them. I specifically interpret the Blot as an alter of theirs, the same way I interpret masky and hoodie to be alters of Brian and Tim (though I don't personally think Brian has DID, I do think Tim probably does, due to his background and childhood. I tend to stray away from hcing characters without abusive childhood backstorys with DID) but uhmmm. So I see Louse as something similar to Paul and petscop, if you've ever seen petscop? A fictionalized videogame retelling of real events that happened to Shelby. I think a lot of stuff is metaphorical in Louse and representative of what is happening to Shelby in real life, though yknow, it's not like I have enough canon proof to connect everything. But here are some of my favorite ideas/theories/headcanons
The Blot is very much a part of Shelby, and has taken up a lot of personality traits of theirs that they try not to act on. A lot of anger, a lot of resentment. I like the blot because it's written to be an actual feeling character instead of just an emotionless entity that wants the rot dead.
"Old friend" being the one who raised shelby, and also the one who gave shelby the Blot to me can be interpreted as passing down coping mechanisms. I love love to interpret it as the old friend showing Shelby his own coping mechanisms to deal with being part of the Rot, which feels like a parent teaching a child to dissociate and "steel" themselves in the face of trauma
And with both those things I like to interpret the Blot as an alter, a part of Shelby and something they can't function without. This is a bit of projecting but my own system really struggles to function without TWO alters at front, which is why I like the idea of Blot being around being the thing that stablizes shelby in the real world because it gives me the feeling of cohosting
I also think they canonically dissociate, like, a lot. The scene with the love of rot taking them and them losing conciousness but their body still functioning. The scene with them trying to "re-remember" sending their old friend off the mountain before the blot is like BOO THAT IS NOT WHAT FUCKING HAPPENED. The multiple times where they're having flashbacks and then "flinch" back into reality. They clearly have memory issues, and also lose periods of time. I don't think CANONICALLY they have DID, and I think a lot of the things I see as symptoms of DID in them can be attributed to them being the seed of rot attempting to literally be human and also have a whole seperate creature inside of them being like boo bitch fuck that rot. But I think that their symptoms are so similar that it doesn't really matter LOL it's the mindset I take when writing them.
I also think the blot can "front" by itself. I don't think the white/black frowny face is a coincidence that it looks very similar to many of the masks that Tim, Brian and whoe'ever Skully is don when their "alter egos" are controlling the body. I think that the Blot is not one creature, but many, that a lot of people may have. And I don't really agree with the fandoms idea of "being blotted" or anything, because I don't see Blot as an inherently bad force. Troy wagner tends to have one "BIG BAD" and then a billion lesser "bads" that are also against the big bad, and I tend to assume the "rot" is the big bad of eckvanet, where as the Blot, Andrew and Danielle are all antagonistic but have similar goals (think like how masky and hoodie are working against alex kralie, while also still being 'antagonists')
I'm currently rewatching MH right now because its been years so my headcanons might chance but. I DONT KNOW THIS FEELS LIKE INCOHERENT RAMBLING IM SORRY

I feel like there were no casualties because Kubo never wants to kill any of the captains. I mean when they first should up the sternritter one the fights they were in they just didn’t kill any of the main characters. Also the old gotei being the strongest incarnation doesn’t feel that weird I mean we’ve seen captains get replaced with weaker alternatives now.
Kubo is for sure extremely reticent to kill off Shinigami characters. (See: literally no loyal Shinigami deaths at all from Aizen's machinations; Gin and Kaname are the only Shinigami to die.) But again, this is a kind of Doylist explanation. In-universe, we've got some weird facts to wrangle with.
The contemporary Sternritter of Wandenreich are way stronger than the Quincy of Lichtreich, because 1. Yhwach himself is way stronger in 2003 than in 1004 because he grows stronger from Quincy deaths, and 2. notable Sternritter powers like both forms of Blut and Vollständig have their power levels directly controlled by this stronger Yhwach, and Vollständig is "new" (likely less than a century old).
The other threats to the contemporary Shinigami, like Hollows and Arrancar, are also implied to be rather more highly evolved now than in the past. Kuruyashiki in SAFWY is stated to have killed a Vasto Lorde which is a highly uncommon feat ("But you never hear about anyone taking down a Vasto Lorde like you did in the past, Captain"). It's anime-only, but it's worth noting it has one of Aizen's Arrancar almost defeating Harribel, a Vasto Lorde, suggesting Arrancarized Adjuchas are roughly as strong as natural Vasto Lordes. To go back to a superior threat, you have to go back to Ikomikidomoe, which beat Yamamoto... before he had a zanpakutō.
So, we know that of the original Gotei 13, all of them were dead by 1891 except Yamamoto and Retsu. What killed them all if they were so much stronger than the current Gotei 13 Captains, and all their opponents were so much weaker? That's a contradiction and a mystery. There are again at least two possible answers in my view.
The first is that they weren't that strong and it was all hype.
The second is that their strength didn't manifest in a straightforward fashion as so many like to imagine. Bleach fans like to imagine Bleach is like Dragonball Z and has power levels, but it doesn't. It's a lot closer to Pokémon elemental matchups. Kubo and Narita both more or less openly declare this; to return to Kuruyashiki, he asks Shunsui if Shunsui could beat a Vasto Lorde, and Shunsui says it all depends and that maybe he could beat a Vasto Lorde and yet lose to a Gillian. Kaien losing to Metastacia is another example, as is Rukia being crippled by Fishbone D in the very first chapter. Circumstance and matchup are vital in Bleach.
So it could be that the OG Gotei 13 was strong in highly unconventional ways. Think like Mayuri, whose direct personal combat power is relatively low but whose overall combat utility is exceptionally high.
We probably won't know the answers, to be honest. These guys appeared for literally one panel in the manga, and I don't expect the anime will be handing them a few episodes of flashbacks or anything.

As a first-time DM, I am not sure if this is normal, or if I have somehow managed to land myself in more trouble than I need to. I am currently world building at so many fronts, and it's both very creative and rewarding, but also quite stressful. These are the things I'm world building atm (please tell me if that's a normal amount, or if that's just a newby thing because I don't know the ropes and all the tricks yet):
- Fleshing out NPCs for the upcoming session, what they know or don't know, what they are willing to tell or do, and for what price.
- Designing a surprise encounter that is a consequence of one of the players deliberately flashing dangerous knowledge around in an attempt to draw out the bad guy. It has to be threatening, but probably should not result in them being dead or captured. Because if they get captured, there is no reason why they would not either be killed instantly, or used in the bad guy's necromantic experiments. Maybe some kind of mind battle, the important psychic attack with detect thoughts disguised by physical attacks? Or maybe I really do try to capture them, or at least some of them, and split the party? Because that's what my bad guy would go for, if I'm really honest.
- Designing an evil lair under the location the players are currently in, and coming up with a way to let them know it's there without being too obvious about it. Incidentally, coming up with security for the place that would hold up to strong magical government forces and oversight, but can be breached by our heroes if they put their minds to it.
Which is fucking difficult, let me tell you. My current idea is to create a disturbance in the lair, to let them see security rush in there without being able to do anything about it, but also let them see the devices that allow security to teleport there. Maybe there is also a way for them to find an in with the security personnel? Have to think about that. I want to use the players special abilities for this more, make it so that it's only because they combine different skillsets that they can succeed, but I'm not sure how to do that.
But maybe I just actively try to capture them instead, and it becomes a jailbreak story? Ugh, too many possibilities! How do you decide what is the best course of action for the story and to make player choices matter? If I leave it up to how the story goes at the table, what the fuck do I prep for, all of it??
- I am trying to keep the motivations of the different factions in mind, but they are shifting quite a bit. I designed it like a kind of cold war between two powerful factions, both of which operate in the criminal underground and sort of keep each other in check. One of them is looking to make an army of modified warforged who would be loyal only to them, the other is a criminal syndicate that dabbles in necromancy who threatens to raise an army of undead. Both things are illegal, and the law is strong in the country, so they can't just openly fight it out.
Oh, that's giving me ideas. What if they are kind of in the middle of negotiations, and it's the player's task to stop this unholy alliance? I like that, I like that a lot. It's an achievable goal for 2nd level adventurers, I think, and they already have the first part of some critical information that would disturb those talks, they just don't know it yet.
- Coming up with at least a half-way believable economic system that feels coherent and helps players with immersion, or at least doesn't put them out of it, is not really fun for me. I want it, because since they are 2nd level adventurers it should still feel like an important thing that they can't buy certain things yet, but I don't want to design it.
- Coming up with ideas on how to get players to engage with the world, and get deeper into their character. I think I'm gonna do a flashback for one of them, make them actually feel what they have lost when their mentor died, instead of it just being words on paper. I'm gonna give another an NPC rival, since they have given me nothing much in their backstory to hook them in. And I'm gonna design an artificer convention for our artificer, that can also be the place where the final negotiations take place. Of course it's gonna go horribly wrong one way or another, and I feel like it might be the showdown for their first arc. How much time do I give them until the convention? Also, fuck me, that's a lot of work!
- My players are currently investigating the necromantic crime syndicate, but one of my players is also secretly investigating the warforged faction as a part of their warlock pact. And as an added difficulty, is doing so for the necromantic syndicate, but thinks he's doing it for the warforged faction. I have no idea when and how I let him find out, and how it will impact the story. At the moment, I'm just keeping that plate spinning as best I can, tbh.
- One of my players is designing a dungeon and wants to DM it soon. I work with him to find a way to put it into the story, even if only superficially.
Is it normal to have so many fronts to work on? I have never build a story or a world before, so is it normal to leave things kinda vague like this, and basically come up with new story beats, or flesh out old ones, after each session and depending on what the players do? It feels a little dangerous to me, like there's a good possibility that I'm not gonna be able to tie it all together and give them a satisfying conclusion. At the same time, if I define it more in advance, I feel like I'm gonna take away their agency. I don't just want to guide them from beat to beat, I want them to be able to influence what beats there are, and when they hit them.

and n-no, i swear nobleman!ayato is not my main priority when it comes to fontaine partially *cough* <//3 but i've always been a sucker for masquerade and royalty themes !! if i could live anywhere in teyvat, it'd definitely be either fontaine and mondstadt >:) which is funny since my beloved's are from inazuma LIKE ALL THREE OF THEM HELPFJWKD wbu, rin??? what region would you be from if you were in teyvat??? it's nice to imagine 👀
i guess this counts as leaks but yes, albedo is getting added to the standard banner !! from how many limited characters there are rn, i think it'd benefit hoyoverse to deflect the possible "[insert limited character] rerun when" comments this way??? djwjskdks now, we all have a chance to get our resident chief alchemist >:) but this means that your chance of getting diluc is now lower JFJWKKFK BUT I SHALL STILL MANIFEST !!
just stack hp artifacts on zhongli and suddenly, his existence might be responsible for making healers jobless (/lh). you'll definitely need him when you go against ruin hunters, rin <//3 yes, this is my reminder that ruin hunters and their missiles exist, now suffer. (/j)
i shall treasure the headpats !! but xiao maybe not so much, he'd growl and smack your hand away. don't look at him, rin, i'm supposed to be your favorite shortie ;( (/j) and please, the way zhongli brings out a different side to you is so sweet <//3 you don't need to worry about keeping everyone on leashes when you're with him, just go crazy and stupid >:)

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (Part 1)
I'm going through my Google Drive and have a bunch of old story ideas that I know in my heart I'm literally never going to see to completion.
But, I also don't want to just throw them in the trash, because even if they don't really spark much in me, maybe someone else will want to do something with them.
So! I'll be posting at most one story idea a day, though there might be some gaps for the longer ones that'll need extra time spent formatting.
I want to say these are under Copyleft, but I'm also not a lawyer and I'm not sure if I fully understand all that entails. But, if I'm not wrong, I think it means you can use any settings, characters, or plot points in these documents, as long as you let anyone else who wants to use them do so too.
First story under the cut.
Alright, here's the first of two stories collecting dust in a folder called "Cyberpunk Story". I guess I should warm y'all that I did not check this for spelling errors and / or cringe so good luck.
Silver & Sheen
Premise / Core Draw: Playing with themes of humanity / inhumanity as shown through two cyborg protagonists. Sheen embraces her inhumanity, while Silver rejects his. A twist in the final third of the story reveal that Silver is a fully synthetic android operating off the digitized mind of his dead "original", while Sheen is entirely human, remotely piloting the false body she believed to be her own.
Now, on the the stuff from the Google Doc:
Cyberpunk story, the big thing about this story is that it’s about a robot and a cyborg. The robot embraces their inhumanity and thinks themselves above weak humans (Sheen), while the cyborg rejects their artificial nature, and wishes they could go back to being a true human (Silver). Then at the end it’s revealed that Sheen is actually a %100 pure human who was remotely piloting a robot without realizing it, and Silver is actually an android with the digitized memories of a human that died decades earlier.
Moments:
Silver and Sheen stand on a rooftop overlooking the home of someone who got on the bad side of the city’s megacorp. On receiving the order to initiate their assassination, Sheen jumps headfirst into battle, but Silver stays behind even as screams erupt from whatever havoc Sheen is causing.
Silver stays on the rooftop waiting, until his cybernetic implants force him to enter the fight. Even then he resists for a few moments longer, just to see how long he can hold off his handlers this time.
Silver’s backstory is elaborated on. He wasn’t just some street kid his picked off the street and experimented on. He was actually the son of the very C.E.O. of the company that currently owns both him and Sheen. Injured during a hover-car accident, cybernetics were the only way to save Silver, but ever since his father has disowned him.
This flashback occurs in the middle of a heated argument in the C.E.O.’s boardroom. Silver screams at his father to look at him, and that he can’t ignore Silver forever. The C.E.O. tells his security personnel to get “that malfunctioning copy” out of his office. Silver is dragged out screaming epithets.
Sheen shoots Silver’s robotic cat because it annoys her, an apathetic Silver just rhetorically asks Sheen if she realizes that was expensive. Sheen bites back saying that Silver has plenty of money to get a new one, and that it doesn’t matter because the cat wasn’t real anyway, does he even realize that? Silver only says that he considered the cat a kindred spirit.
Silver asks Sheen why she chose to live in such a run-down house, when the pay given to them by their megacorp is more than enough to choose from the most expensive penthouses in the city. Sheen points to a structure on the horizon resembling a radio tower, then explains that the tower was once used to send signals between earth and the moon.
Sheen continues that the tower is now defunct, but it’s still kept under heavy guard, because if someone was able to get it working again, it would allow every A.I. in the city to upload themselves and escape to the moon.
The moon no longer houses any humans, though they say it still has a thriving population of A.I. who found the place much more suitable. They say it’s a utopia up there, no sadness, no death. The A.I. who made it carrying on humanity's forgotten dream of exploring distant stars.
So that’s why Sheen lives on the fringes of the city, so she can plan and scheme and dream. One day she’ll escape, and since she’s nigh immortal, it’s only a matter of time. She then begins to go on about how it must feel bad for a mortal like Silver to see the tower, considering he’ll never be able to use it. Silver doesn’t particularly care about what Sheen says.
Silver and Sheen are fighting, and Silver is winning. It’s explained in part through narration, and in part by words Silver says aloud, that Silver was always the faster of the two, his reflexes much better than Sheen. Sheen acknowledges that, but before Silver is able to defeat her, she reveals she manipulated the fight so they would be standing over an unfinished construction site.
As Sheen dislodges a pile of rebar on the floor above them, she tells Silver it will never matter how fast he is, because she was always the more creative of the two. A piece of rebar crushes Silver leg as Sheen leaves. She ignores Silver screams of pain and hate directed at her.
Sheen pushes a hard drive into Silver’s hands as the sound of security trying to breach into the tower control room grows louder. Silver tells Sheen he’s not leaving her, Sheen says this is his only chance, his and every other A.I. in the city. Sheen tells Silver she’s not afraid to take away the one reason he wants to stay, so don’t don’t force her to.
From the outside the red light of the radio tower turns on for just a moment, a candle next to the spotlights of the city. Sheen smiles as the city drops into a blackout. A single gunshot is heard from outside the tower, its light the only one remaining after the mass exodus.
Epilogue: Silver’s new home has a window, its view outlooking into a black sky and grey moondust. He has a new body now, now older and clearly an android, but still recognizable and resembling a human. It seems in his time since arriving on the moon, he’s taken up creating his own robots.
Amongst the half-finished projects is an android about the same age Silver was for the majority of the story. They look feminine and have human features like Silver. Silver inserts the hard drive Sheen gave him into a port in the android’s neck. She wakes up and asks what her name is, Silver tells her it’s Sterling. Sterling asks Silver who Sheen is. Silver says she’s their big sister, and that he’ll tell Sterling all about her. Sterling is led out of Silver’s workshop with a smile on her face.

SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY WITH A SMIDGEN OF HOMICIDE USA Today Bestselling author Tonya Kappes brings you southern and quirky characters in her mystery series. Her stories are charged with humor, friendship, family, and life in small southern towns. Welcome to Normal, Kentucky where NOTHING is normal. It's Labor Day weekend in Normal, and if you know anything about camping and RVing, you know it's one of the busiest times of the year. Unfortunately, Daniel Boone National Park is in danger of being closed due to a drought and local businesses are scrambling for ideas to survive a possible shutdown. Happy Trails Campground is at the center of a murder in which campers as well as locals are suspects. It looks likely that a local resident is responsible for the dastardly deed since the victim is the one person who had the power to shut down the national park, which would be devastating to Normal’s small businesses. Follow Mae West as she searches for clues to get to the bottom of this Labor Day campground caper! Dollycas's Thoughts We are back at the Happy Trails Campground in Normal Kentucky for the Labor Day weekend. Campground owner Mae West has a lot on her plate with the campground fully booked and her little dog Fifi due to give birth to three puppies any day. She is also worried about the drought in the area that could shut down her camp and other local businesses. Her romantic life is in flux too. Mae's current guests include some rowdy men celebrating the long weekend with a bachelor party. The groom, William gets into an argument with Ranger Corbin Ashbrook. The bachelors are warned if they cause any more trouble she will boot them from the campground. The next morning William is missing and Ranger Corbin Ashbrook is dead. Mae knows another murder is bad for business so she starts her own little investigation to get things back to as normal as things in Normal can be as quickly as she can. I am enjoying the characters in this series so much. Each is unique in their own way and very cleverly written. I love the way Mae has become close with so many people and that she has grown comfortable running the campground even though she still has things to learn like how to keep her business going in times when a drought strikes. The Laundry Club members are quite a group. Gossip, information, book clubs, and more, these ladies are a hoot. They have also become great friends to Mae. So we have a missing groom and a dead ranger. There has to be a connection, right? Ms. Kappes has tangled things up in a terrific way that keeps both readers and Mae on their toes. Throw in another murder, pick up the pace, throw in some twists and turns, a rumor or two, and the author takes her readers on one heck of a trip. I did figure most of the mystery before all was revealed but with the quirky characters in Normal that did not deter my enjoyment of this story. I was excited to see the pups be born and what was going to happen with Mae's romantic life and if she was going to actually go to her hair appointment and how that would turn out. All the subplots meshed so nicely with the mystery. There is always something happening at Happy Trails Campground and Ms. Kappes takes the time to give us detailed accounts so we feel we are right there on the scene. Whether it be out on a hiking trail or at the birth of Fifi's puppies, at other campground events, or when there is a shocking discovery, all was easily crystal clear in my mind. Forests, Fishing, & Forgery is just the 4th installment of what is now a 33-book series. It will take me quite some time to get caught up but each visit to Normal Kentucky has been fun and entertaining. I hope I get to visit again soon.

i’m calling a few things now for stranger things 5:
-it feels pretty obvious by now that Eddie is coming back in some capacity. if they don’t bring him back it’ll honestly be a huge missed opportunity, not just from a fan perspective but also from a business perspective. it really feels like they set his death up deliberately to bring him back if Joe Quinn knocked it out of the park, and he very much did. the fact that they didn’t show his body nor the team/Dustin’s exit from the Upside Down seems pretty deliberate to give some validity to the “he may come back to life somehow” rumor mill. i may be overestimating their writing team and this was completely accidental, but also throw in the fact that he’s STILL doing a ton of press, specifically with Jamie Campbell Bower(who plays Vecna) even though his character is supposedly dead and not coming back(i’m just saying, they tried to pull this last season with Hopper, and it didn’t seem to work much then either)? it could potentially set up Vecna somehow bringing him back and controlling him like he did with Billy or with Will. the whole parallels to Wayne’s outfit in his scene with Dustin matching Jonathan’s outfit from s1, the parallels from the music in the scenes of both Eddie’s death and Will’s revival? it just seems like these weren’t things that were done on accident, imo. and even if they were accidental, they could still retroactively make them work if they really wanted to milk the Eddie love for all it’s worth(and judging from his popularity, it’s worth quite a bit). at the very least i won’t be surprised if we see some flashbacks, or visions from Vecna, or something.
-also, i think if he does come back proper, his story will likely mirror Will’s experiences from s1 and s2. piggybacking off my last point, there’s already some evidence for a potential of that with what i mentioned, and i feel like it could set up for Will to somehow save him(pure speculation on my part but it’d be fun to see lol). his story could also mirror Billy’s, but with a twist that at least Eleven knows how to save people from Vecna’s control now, and could potentially save him a lot sooner.
-i think this’ll also be the season we finally see someone from s1 die. my money’s on Eleven, Will, or Johnathan/Steve(either one of them in an attempt to subvert the whole love triangle thing we supposedly had resolved two fuckin seasons ago).
-possibly also Ted Wheeler, but i also feel that Karen might finally divorce him if they both live through all this. either way i feel like Ted’s bubble is about to burst in a hilarious yet terrible way if he doesn’t just flat-out kick the bucket.
-i also don’t think Max is going to survive either. judging from interviews with the duffer brothers i’ve seen, they were really on the fence on whether or not to kill her off, and so they kind of settled for this in-between state she’s currently in. i feel like if they do go ahead and kill off someone from s1, then they’ll probably do the same to her, since they already pulled the bandaid off. it’ll make me very sad if they do, but i do feel like this may be her eventual fate.
-i really have a feeling(or at least a hope) we’ll finally see more of Kali this season. it’d feel very weird if her story just left off where it did, although there’s always the potential for spinoffs if they don’t include her. it just seems like maybe if Eleven herself isn’t strong enough to stop Vecna, that her big sister would finally come to her senses and come help to save the day. idk, it just really seems like it’d be a waste if she didn’t come back.
-i have no evidence for this but i just really want Murray to analyze the El/Mike/WIll thing and chide the original teens for continuing the dumb love triangle thing. i also just want more of Murray. and Argyle. and Erica. and i want all of them to interact. and if the duffer brothers hurt them i will do donuts on a motorcyle all over their nice lawns.
