Morrigan Crowley alt. NRC outfits
Hello Hello! Here is the long awaited post with Morrigan’s alternate NRC outfits! There are a few event outfits I didn’t design for just yet so I’m not including them. Perhaps they’ll be added in a future posts
All credit for the sprites/cards I used as my references belongs to the Twisted Wonderland team and Yana Toboso!
Other Morrigan outfits: School uniform | Royal Sword Academy | Village of Miracles event
Groovy Candy & Coffin icon
I feel like it’s only fair that I actually make Morrigan a groovy candy and coffin icon design.
Raven feather and mirrors are the things I’ve been using as Morrigan’s icons/symbols so those are what I used for these designs.
Since Morrigan is in Diasomnia I used the Diasomnia group’s icons as my references.
The groovy candy was pretty easy, I just did a ravens feather
The coffin icon was a little harder because I wasn’t quite sure what design I wanted to make.
After looking at some of the other characters coffin cards and looking at the mirrors Crowley wears, I decided to combine the feather and mirror motifs.
My thought process was that it’s a more ornate mirror, so the feathers on the sides would be decor elements on the sides of the frame.

Dorm Uniform
So I completely forgot that Daisomnia (at least for the ENG server) doesn’t have sprites for their dorm uniforms. I still wanted to include it, so I used mainly Sebek’s “official design” art as a reference. His design happens to be facing the same way as the in-game sprites so it was easier to get the design right.
Morrigan’s dorm uniform has very minor changes. They aren’t a big fan of ties so, while they may button their shirts all the way, they don’t wear the tie. The same can be said about their school uniform. I also imagine their boots are heeled like Malleus’s, though are maybe a bit shorter.
The hat was a pain in the butt, imma just say it. Especially because I didn’t have a sprite to reference in terms of the size it should be. I will admit I was tempted to omit it completely, but felt it would have been too out of place if I did.

Ceremonial Robes & Birthday Boy
There isn’t much to mention about either of these outfits, I didn’t really change anything.
The detailing on the robes was pain though. It just took forever
The ribbon on the birthday suit outfit is purple as a call back to Morrigan’s purple colour scheme outside of their uniforms
I also included the VoM braid to the Birthday suit just for fun
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PE uniform & Lab wear
These are another pair that I don’t have much to say on because of the general diversity in how the characters wear their PE and Lab gear
For Morrigan’s gym uniform I kind of did a cross of the turtleneck Malleus wears and the general crew neck T-shirts many of the other characters wear. Just for a little spice
I also debated on having them wear their magic pen like Silver, but I ended up not liking the sketch, so their pen is in the little pocket on the jumpsuit sleeve (hidden behind their hair lol)
For Morrigan’s lab wear I gave them an open lab coat like Lilia , I just made the length of the coat the same as everyone else’s. Other the. That, there isn’t much that’s super different.
For both outfits I put Morrigan’s hair up in a bun due to the nature of the classes. Would the longer bits still be cause for concern, particularly when doing alchemy? Yeah probably, but it’s easier to change the back of the hair than redo the bangs 🥲
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This took forever to compile but here are a collection of alternative NRC outfits for Morrigan! I’m gonna try to stop myself from making any more outfit sprites for Morrigan so I can focus on some of my other OC’s. I may come back with some of the event outfits at a later time.
I’m debating on making a sprite list like this for either Yuri or Roma next. That, or I make work on sprites for my non student OC’s 🤔 idk we’ll see where I end up lol.
The other outfit posts I’ve made are linked at the top. I’m open to any questions y’all have!

TINSITOGS, a retrospective (happy birthday)
(yes I’m like two days too late I know I’m sorry)
Why hello followers and ass class fandom, nice to see you there. I’m sure MOST people know about this, but in case you don’t, hi. On AO3 I’m better known as livixbobbiex, writer of maybe one of the most infamous Assassination Classroom fics.
Tumblr media
Which I mean like, if you haven’t read it yet you totally should it’s fanlore at this point I promise-
Shameless plug that I don’t need aside, I felt that, on its first birthday since actual completion, I just wanted to share some things about it. Some tit bits about writing it, fun facts, maybe even some author advice TM. I appreciate that it’ll be super annoying if I do that in the tags, though, so that’ll all be under the cut. If you don’t want to read the whole post, then no matter what, thanks for the support in general!
I also want to take the opportunity to announce that I’ve reopened my discord, so if you want to talk about my fics with me (and others), you’re more than welcome to join! (the link is here)
The origin story
I’ve stated this many times, I think, but TINSITOGS was never supposed to be a serious story. Taking you back, quite a long time, it actually started in a facebook DM with a friend. We used to come up with “head canons” with each other, which were basically just very condensed fanfiction plots over a multitude of text messages. I believe I was trying to cheer her up, and I tried to come up with some kind of plot line.
At the time, I was fairly fresh to the Ass Class fandom, and I was joking about how there were no teen pregnancy melodrama fanfictions. It wasn’t that I wanted one, I just thought it was strange for a school centric anime with a bunch of ships to NOT have one. And, back then, I only really cared about karmagisa. So I just decided ‘right it’s happening’. The reason I decided to make it ABO was due to ‘it making sense’. Fun fact: it was almost written as AFAB trans Nagisa, but I decided against it as I didn’t rate my ability to handle it well back then. Looking back on it, I’m glad I made that decision.
Over around two months, writing out the plot of this story took over my life a little bit. I had no idea where I was going with it, but I was having so much fun with the drama that I decided that Karma and Nagisa shouldn’t get together soon at all, and I had a lot of fun teasing my friend with the ‘will they won’t they’. It was only when I got bored that I invented this intense drama plotline to finish it all off.
That period of time was a lot of fun. And whilst that friendship didn’t end well, I still have a lot to thank her for. She chose Daichi’s name because I had no idea, and she wanted to annoy me because I didn’t like Haikyuu. When I couldn’t decide on his hair colour, the purple was her suggestion because ‘why logic?’ Daichi speaking Korean was because of how much she liked Kpop. She even helped me choose the title of the actual fic, so there’s a lot you can thank her for, honestly.
After I finished that story, though, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Whenever I daydreamed, I used to think about that damn Daichi Akabane, and how much I wanted to tell his story. I’d even come up with extra stuff to fill in a lot of the gaps, and developed his character in my mind. I decided that I was really desperate to write it down. Usually that worked when I had an idea I wanted to work through.
I wrote the first chapter in late 2017, and then the next two as well. I just, kept going, and realised that I could go further still. TINSITOGS was never something that was supposed to be shared, but I decided I may as well. After all, that fated ‘teen pregnancy drama’ fic still didn’t exist, and I thought it would be funny to make it happen.
Yes, as I’ve stated publicly a few times, TINSITOGS was a crack fic. If I wanted attention from it, it was infamy. We even joked about me cursing the fandom if it ever became the most popular fic (whoops?). What I wasn’t expecting was a bunch of people, in a fandom where at the time there were NO ongoing karmagisa fics and it was pretty dead, to really seem to enjoy it. It was enough to have me keep writing it, at least. I still don’t know at what point I actually started taking it seriously, but somehow I did, and the rest is history?
The reception
In my wildest dreams, I never thought that I would be the author of one of the most popular fics in the fandom. To this day, the amount of views TINSITOGS has is insanity to me. For the record, across all platforms it’s on today it has 238,000, which is literally a number I can’t even visualise anymore. Almost quarter of a MILLION. To this day on AO3, it’s the most viewed Ass Class fic that’s an ACTUAL ass class fic (the others are multi fandom compilations). So yeah, I achieved the original goal, I guess?
Now you might be wondering, “omg the karmagisa fandom is fujoshi trash”. And, considering the origins, it is kind of funny. The thing is, though, TINSITOGS was written at incredibly good time. It was written when there were, essentially, very few long form Karma/Nagisa stories. If any other fics did get posted on occasion, they were usually just oneshots. I was also, at that point, writing very fast. A symptom of ADHD is becoming obsessively productive over certain things. Since I was able to get a 3k chapter out every few days/once a week, TINSITOGS was consistently bumped to the top of AO3′s default view. And some of those first few chapters were altered canon, and transcribing the canon dialogue didn’t take very long. The more views it got, the more people would read it out of sheer curiosity.
I think it also helps that, at least after it started getting some positive feedback (which was honestly after the pre written chapters), I purposely tried to make it ‘not terrible’. I mean, I personally think the first chapter is pretty weak and if it wasn’t somewhat iconic to a lot of people I’d rewrite it. But in general, I purposely tried to make the world of ABO my own, to make it more accessible to those who don’t like that genre, and stay away from the inherently grosser stuff as much as possible. I genuinely do get comments about how I introduced people to the genre as a whole, still not sure if that’s a GOOD thing but hey, it happened.
TINSITOGS turned into a lot more than just a joke. It turned into my favourite hobby. It turned into a research project (honestly, you would not believe the amount of mummy vlogs and legit scientific articles about child development I consumed). It turned into something that, at least I believe, was widely loved.
Meaning
I think it might be wrong to say that I don’t have AN idea of when I started to take the fic super seriously. For me, it was around the time someone commented something along the lines of saying my writing meant a lot to them, that they’d spent all night reading it and had been unable to put it down.
Not to get too dark here, but I do have a past in writing a very long, somewhat popular fic (it’s still on my fanfic net profile if anyone’s interested, but I don’t recommend it). However, in the latter part of my teenage years, the depression struck. Writing was the love of my life, and I couldn’t bring myself to do it anymore. Maybe I’d be able to muster an idea or even a chapter at the best points of that, but I’d never completely finished any story. Starting to write again was a huge step in my recovery, and one of the reasons I convinced myself that life was worth it was being able to impact someone’s life somehow. Even to this day, I still remember the fics I read when I was, like, thirteen. How much I still remember them, and how much they meant to be at the time. I wanted to be that writer for someone else. To be honest, it was actually Yuri!!! On Ice that got me out of the super bad, but I still never wrote anything of real consequence. TINSITOGS was the first time in a long time I actually committed to something.
And, to be completely honest, there were a lot of times I was tired of it, and wanted to just quit. But, the thing was, I felt like people depended on me in a way. I got so many comments that were just FILLED with support, telling me how much they looked forward to every update. It wasn’t just empty words, either, a lot of the times these comments would be super engaged with the actual writing. I can’t even describe just how much they meant to me, how much I would look forward to reading everyone’s opinions. And then discord happened, which was a lot of fun.
TINSITOGS went a lot further than I ever thought it would. There were comments, discussions, fan art, fan FIC (which is honestly incredible to me). Someone even added it to TV Tropes, at one point. Not to mention the Cards Against Humanity deck and quiz It makes me so unbelievably happy that I could inspire that much creativity, but it’s a two way street. It was all of that which inspired me to write, too.
Writing
The only real goal I actually had was aiming for around 3000 words per chapter. I had a whole facebook log of plot points as planning, and I was mostly just trying to expand on them into prose. I honestly thought that, at its completion, the entire fic would be around 100k words, if that. Not, at one point, being literally the longest ass class fic on AO3.
There are a lot of aspects that were directly adapted from the original messages, and I tried to stay faithful to it more so at first, even if I later removed some of the pure crack. But the style was also vaguely similar, with the story being told mostly from Nagisa’s perspective with swaps to Karma when it made sense. All the main plot beats, too, are pretty much identical. The plus to this was I was able to add a lot of really fun foreshadowing, and I feel like it’s a fun reread because of it.
Honestly though, if there’s a demand to release those OG message logs, I will. Mostly because it’s kind of funny, and interesting to see. Isogai and Nagisa were engaged at one point, even.
Obviously, it changed somewhat. 3000 was the minimum length, and the time to completion was whenever it felt right. One of my big concerns was about pacing, so it took a lot more fleshing out and maybe ‘filler’ content for some of the main arcs to work.
There’s parts of TINSITOGS I don’t think aren’t written that well, and some that I’m still super proud of. I think you can definitely tell there’s a gradual shift in style, and I get a lot more comfortable with writing them as characters as it goes along. To be honest, my pride for the fic overall is what it represents.
It is funny to think about the places it got written in, though. I started it when I worked at McDonalds with no life direction, then it went through my first year of university with me. It’s been written in at least four countries. Aeroplanes, night clubs, long haul buses, a train through the Japanese southern coastline. Even the start of covid. TINSITOGS managed to see a lot. I even turned a scene in (the boat scene during the India chapter with altered names) to my university as a legitimate assignment.
There were also a few messages I wanted to achieve, once I realised I had the platform to put them across. One of them was, obviously, ‘use protection kids’. It was important to me that I didn’t glamorise it too much, and I think that came across. I also wanted to dispute some of the issues with ABO, and subvert the consent issues as much as I could. An arc I really ‘liked’ writing was how abuse doesn’t always look the same way, and that it can be a drawn out change in behaviour. How the most important part of ‘being a good parent’ isn’t perfection, but genuinely loving and doing the best you can for your kid. How love doesn’t solve everything, and effective communication can take a very long time to learn and build a functional relationship. I mean, there definitely was a lot I tried to put in, and you’re free to interpret it all how you want. But, I like to think some people learnt some of these things, at least.
Daichi
Honestly, Daichi developed almost of his own free will. I had a good idea of his appearance, and that he was smart. Writing him from birth until around nine years old (older if you read the sequel fic) pretty much allowed that fluidity. It was really fun to explore a nature vs nurture development, and let his own characteristics speak for themselves.
He’ll always have a special place in my heart.
Tumblr media
This is the first image I ever made. When I was trying to figure out what Daichi looked like, I honestly just edited Karma’s hair (pretty well, actually? I’m impressed with my past skill). That’s where the ‘he looks just like Karma’ meme kind of came from.
Tumblr media
This was the first image I actually created of Daichi. I THINK it was on rinmaru games mega anime creator or something, but it’s literally not available on the internet anymore as far as I can tell, so I can’t double check. This was in the pre-piccrew days. His eyes are closed because they didn’t have the right tone of goldish/silver.
His sister, Kaguya, didn’t even exist originally, even though I decided on that ending pretty early on. Actually, she was going to be called ‘Irina’ due to some hijinks. Initially, when Karma found out about Irina’s pregnancy, she was going to get super emotional and mad at him and basically force him to name his first born daughter after her. Karma agreed to shut her up, never intending to have another child, so when the surprise second child later came along they had to live with the pain. However, to be honest I just forgot to write in the actual scene that set it all up, and I decided against adding it anywhere else. The name Kaguya was a very last minute decision, and it was a chance for me to explore some ideas that didn’t fit with Daichi’s character.
Interestingly too, Daichi and Nao were never intended to be a thing. I only decided that towards the VERY end. Even though the reason I named Nao that was because of a ship I had in a J Drama (Good Morning Call). It just kind of ended up happening because I won myself over with imagining the cute.
The music
I used to write with a lot of background music, though not all the time. Particularly towards the start, there was a lot that didn’t really make sense thematically, yet I would write to a lot.
Here’s a link to the spotify playlist if you want it it’s basically all the ones I noted I’d listened to a lot. Not including the smut ones, though, I have a whole playlist for that.
Some of the notable ones:
Five String Serenade - the first scene I wrote of the entire fic, in Chapter 25 New Year Time where they fell asleep cuddling.
Cosmic Love - when I wrote Nagisa’s love confession scene in hospital (I also wrote this pretty early on)
Northern Downpour (though it was actually a cover by Emma Blackery) - The chapter after Daichi’s born (30)
When The Party’s Over -  Confession Time Third Period, Chapter 69. I literally listened to this song on REPEAT when I planned and wrote the kind of ‘break up’ scene, and it’s one of the few parts that made me cry writing.
Turning Page - I know I said no smut, but this song actually gave me the idea to have the “I love you” in chapter 108 be less on a whim and actually more built up. In the original plan, Karma really did just say it without thinking. I’m glad I changed that.
Bury Me Low and Numb - pretty much all I listened to when writing the last few chapters, because Evil Nagisa core. So much so that Bury Me Low was in my top 2020 songs rewind.
As for the title, there’s actually quite a funny story. I had no idea what to call the fic, and when that happens I usually just try and find some song lyrics. I really wanted to use something from ‘October’ by the Broken Bells. Not only because it’s my favourite song (has been for years), but thematically it really worked. The issue was, it worked as the WHOLE song, there were no individual lyrics that captured everything. And, if they did, they didn’t flow very well. And naming the fic ‘October’ would have been weird for a lot of reasons. There Is No Sweeter Innocence That Our Gentle Sin really was just plucked randomly, in a desperate search to find any snappy lyrics from any song that had some kind of meaning. After a bit of discussion, we settled that it kind of worked... if Daichi is innocent and they committed a sin or something. It also wasn’t the most obvious lyric from the song (Take Me To Church if anyone doesn’t know) so I just went with it. It works out, I think, because TINSITOGS turned out to be a pretty good acronym and pronounceable word in its own right.
The merch  redbubble drama
It’s a well known fact that I’m not very good at art. However, I decided to try pixel art because it seemed the easiest to not mess up. I made Karma and Nagisa, before deciding to also give Daichi a try.
Tumblr media
This, to this day, is the only good quality art of Daichi that I actually own. The only one I’m actually happy sharing and thinking it doesn’t look terrible. As much as I love people sending me fanart, it’s not ‘my property’, right.
So, I was kind of joking about TINSITOGS having merchandise. At first I just made two funny quote things, and uploaded it to redbubble. I was never intending to actually make money from this, and I’d agreed to myself that if I did, I would just donate it to charity. I was joking with the quotes, but since I had this artwork I figured I may as well uploaded. Separately, there was also an image that had pixel Daichi next to pixel Nagisa and Karma (which I also created).
Aside from showing up in a few people’s adverts across the internet, there was no real harm with this. In fact, I didn’t make money anyway. It was just... more the joke of it existing. I did, however, buy myself a Daichi phone case, which is one of my favourite possessions.
The funny ‘drama’ comes in when they got taken down due to copywrite. Sure, the one with Nagisa and Karma, I understand. But the other three literally had no mention or anything to do with Assassination Classroom, aside from being from a fanfiction. So basically, someone who owns those rights claimed my OC as theirs. Which makes Daichi canon? Whatever the case, I found this hilarious don’t worry.
How has TINSITOGS changed my life?
This is quite a strange thing to think about. Because, in a lot of ways, it really hasn’t. As I’m sure a lot of people know, I don’t really consider myself to have any real ‘fame’, despite the impressive numbers. Whenever I tell people in my personal life, they seem to think I’m some sort of internet celebrity, but that’s never been the case for me. I mean, it’s hardly a cultural phenomenon.
In a lot of ways, I’d much rather befriend someone than have them admire me. Possibly because being someone’s inspiration is kind of weird... I’m just an awkward duck who likes to write after all. I don’t mind it, though. I genuinely find it an honour, even if I don’t necessarily agree. I also want to take this time to say that if anyone ever wants to talk or message me, you’re more than free to do so. I’m usually super casual with people who do that, I promise.
TINSITOGS was the first story I ever finished in the way I truly wanted to. Start to end, a full narrative. And it took a LOT. There were so many times I almost felt like quitting, or took super long breaks. For me, ADHD queen, actually finishing something was a huge deal. And I know I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t owe it to everyone who read it, and myself, to see it through. You know like, if I were to die tomorrow, at least I’ve left something behind.
In a lot of ways, it’s changed me for the better. It’s helped me develop my writing styles, and way of thinking. It encouraged me to become more active in the fandom, and develop some important friendships. I always feel like my Tumblr and Fanfiction ‘known’ factor is separate. I think most of my Tumblr following is more to do with my theories/Japanese context research if anything, for example, but I know I wouldn’t be so interested in that if TINSITOGS hadn’t lead me to deeply examine character and really look into analysing source material for clues. I also think there’s just... a lot of myself in it.
I was 17 years old, when I first came up with the idea. I finished the story when I was 20. Now, at the time of writing, I’m 21. That time has seen some pretty significant changes - just in general life facts and my own personal human development. For me at least, a lot of that was pretty turbulent, and TINSITOGS stands as a time capsule for that, in a way.
I know I gained a lot of confidence, and it affirmed to me that writing is what I love. Telling stories and sharing them is what I love.
Conclusion
Do I think TINSITOGS is an outstanding piece of writing, or the best fic ever? No. I really don’t. It’s strange to say because I definitely spent a lot of time on it, but it’s not like I put my full unbridled efforts into the story. I don’t fully plan, use a beta, or even read through on my own. And that’s okay - that’s not what I write fanfiction for. Fanfiction is my place to have fun with characters and stories I like, without the pressures of having to stand on my own complete originality. Yes, I’m fully confident that I can write at a “higher quality”, if I really wanted to. I’m also aware that some authors put their full effort into their fics, and that’s just as valid!
It feels odd to say this about my own writing, but I honestly think there’s just something in this story. It might not be written in the best prose ever, and the premise might be kind of dumb for a lot of people. But, I think, there’s some part of this fic that managed to grab people. Somehow, at some point, many readers get captured into the emotions and so drawn in that ‘they just have to finish it now!’ Again, I’m not sure myself how I actually achieved that. Of course, that won’t apply to everyone, but I do feel there’s some truth in it. And it makes me happy, to have caused that.
If TINSITOGS is your favourite fic, or if you genuinely think it’s the best story you’ve read, then thank you. I really appreciate your support, and I’m happy to have been a part of your life, I guess. I know how much fanfics can mean to a person, and that’s why I’m not going to take it down, or edit it at all. And it’s fine too, if you loved the fic for a while and moved on -i t happens. Whatever the case, I’m very honoured to have been able to occupy a moment of your life. Or if you find this fic in 10 years time, even, I still wholly appreciate you.
This story was incredibly important to me, and thank you for reading if it was ever important to you too.
You may ask, what now? Well, this is only intended to be a detailed look back for whoever’s interested, and it’s likely the only one I’ll actually do, a year after completion. Of course, if you ever want to ask me anything or just discuss the story, you’re honestly good to contact me in whatever way I have available.
I’m still writing my ongoing stories, of course, despite taking a small break due to the university work load. I fully intend to complete the stories I’ve already started to tell, at least. After that... I’m not sure if I’ll still write fanfiction. Don’t panic, this isn’t a ‘I’m quitting writing’ thing. I may, however, have bled the Karmagisa genre a bit too dry at that point. Who knows? I am pretty interested in writing something original for once, so maybe that’ll work out.
For now, at least, thank you to anyone who read this fic. To anyone who commented, liked, or interacted with me over it. To anyone who created or learnt from it. I’m really glad that I got to share this story with you all, and ultimately left some kind of mark, no matter how big or small.
Happy birthday, TINSITOGS. I had a lot of fun writing you.

Headcanons ask: can you rewrite Season 2 of Good Morning Call after Nao and Uehara breakup?
BUCKLE UP CAUSE THIS IS GONNA BE LONG:
The morning after telling Uehara “let’s break up” feels like waking up from a years-long dream. After icing her eyes (swollen from all the sobbing) she discovers that it takes no time at all to make one breakfast and one lunch instead of two. She’s finished so quickly that, for once, Nao’s early to her first class.
It’s in the middle of the period that she realizes with a jolt that she’s taking all general education courses, because she has no idea what to study. Her only dream has been to be Uehara’s girlfriend and, eventually, his wife.
At lunch, Ota and Marina talk about a hundred things going on that she can’t believe she doesn’t already know about. Every follow-up question is met with either a sheepish look (Ota) or a careless wave of the hand (Marina). “We’ve definitely talked about this before,” they say. “You probably don’t remember because you were busy with something.”
They’re sweet enough not to state the obvious about who that something is.
Was.
Within a few weeks, life without Uehara fills up with everything else that Nao has let fall to the wayside. She starts studying so she can actually answer questions in class, instead of making lists of the things that Uehara likes. Instead of desperately freeing up her weekends for potential dates with Uehara, she finally makes it to Daichi’s games. Nights usually spent watching the scary movies that Uehara orders online, are now reserved for low-budget spa nights with Marina, or going out for drinks with the girls from the sewing club.
When she goes out, men flirt with her, sometimes. Nao is still too shy (too heartbroken, she tells herself, though it sounds more like something that’s supposed to be instead of something that is) to ever flirt back.
Not texting him with dumb things, just anything she can think of to get a response, is harder than she thought. At some point, each of her friends will end up taking Nao’s phone and locking themselves in the bathroom with it. Nao’s always mad in the moment, but she ends up baking them dessert as a thank you every time . After all, it’s not like texting him would change anything, even if Uehara was the type to answer.
He probably would, Nao thinks. But that doesn’t mean she should do it.
Abe writes another play, and though he refuses to ever cast her with an onstage part again, he lets her be his stage manager. Though it fills her entire schedule for a solid two weeks, and she gets back to her apartment at wee hours of the morning, it’s an incredible amount of fun.
Even though the door next to hers remains closed, she knows Uehara’s light only goes off when she’s safely inside. It’s not enough, but it means something. Nao wouldn’t pretend otherwise.
Nao just barely passes her midterms by the skin of her teeth. She quits her job at the shop to find something on campus, so she can have more time to study. Luckily, the communications department offers one-semester positions at the help-desk to students. With her friendly demeanor and dedication to solving problems, Nao is readily accepted.
And if leaving her other workplace means that Natsume can’t watch her from the back room, eyes carrying all the hopes that he’s not brave enough to admit, then that’s just the way things are.
Mitsuishi comes to visit. Naturally, he hears the story from Uehara first. He asks Nao questions, some of which are an easy to answer (It wasn’t because of Saeko) and some of which are harder (I don’t know what it would take to fix it).
“It’s funny, Nao,” he says, slinging one arm around Marina’s waist and the other around Nao’s shoulders. “I thought you’d have to be a very different person to dump Uehara. But you seem even more like yourself, lately.”
She laughs, shakes her head as though she doesn’t understand. But that night, Nao turns the words over and over in her mind like a diamond, wondering how it was exactly what she needed to hear.
Right before second semester, the problems start. Natsume visits Uehara’s apartment at least three times a week--perhaps to try to accidentally-on-purpose run into her, or possibly to try to get them back together, or Uehara’s just making sure she doesn’t end up dating him. Nao doesn’t know what to say to either man; with the way they stare at her, she knows that they expect something. It’s her responsibility, in their eyes, to say something that will fix it. Or at least to give them a clue on how Uehara can.
But, if she’s being honest with herself (and she promised she would, now that she’s going to be a real adult)? Nao doesn’t want to.
Instead, she finds a new apartment a few blocks down and moves in when she knows Uehara’s out of town to visit Yuri and Takuya.
Maybe it’s the coward’s move, but she can breathe easier after it’s done.
Her new apartment is big and bright, and when she decorates Nao finds all kinds of things that she’s long left untouched. Old photos of her friends, Kitaura’s cell phone number scrawled on a piece of paper so they could keep in touch while at separate colleges, a gift card from Yuri to a “real grown-up lady’s store”. Her high school certificate, the lumpy hand-stitched handkerchief she started and abandoned for her dad’s birthday, and finally a report she made in junior high, writing that someday, she would go to school to be a kindergarten teacher.
Nao sits on the kitchen floor, sobbing in shame and embarrassment, for centering her entire life around someone other than herself. Pressing her hands to her cheeks, she promises that from now on, my dreams should be about me.
Because she’s still unpacking, Nao orders ramen for dinner. She calls Kitaura’s number, catching up while she eats. When she quietly admits that things are over with Uehara, Kitaura laughs and says, “I thought that might happen.”
Nao wonders how everyone but her could see it for so long. The lack of pity in Kitaura’s voice is strangely exciting, though.
They make plans to talk again, and visit over break. It’s a weird joy to schedule her time around a group of friends, instead of a single boyfriend.
She submits her request for an education major. The next time she orders ramen, Nao and the delivery boy stare at each other in stunned surprise. Issei, as it turns out, has wondered what she’s been up to.
They go to a movie. A comedy, one that they both laugh at. One night turns into another, and another, and another. Sometimes Ota joins them; sometimes it’s Daichi and Nanase; but most of the time, it’s just the two of them.
When she tells him about Uehara, sitting on the couch red-penning the poster for Abe’s latest project, Issei seems to freeze. His gaze is guarded when he asks, “Do you miss him, Nao?”
It’s hard to explain how the answer can be yes and no. But Issei is the kind of person that won’t judge her for struggling with something like that, so Nao tries her best to explain.
Sometimes she thinks about kissing Issei. Not now, when she’s still getting pieces of herself back; but maybe someday.
Part of her expects the day to come when Uehara knocks on her door, breathless and not wearing a coat, arms hanging loosely at his sides like he doesn’t know what to do with them. It’s deja vu, when he asks her to come back and says he’s sorry, really sorry, I don’t want to be without you anymore. He starts to say he loves her, and Nao feels the words from deep within her heart spill out from her lips before he can finish.
“The Nao that you remember, that you’re in love with, isn’t here anymore. She always chose you. This time, I choose myself.”
Shutting the door on him is the hardest thing she’s ever done in her life. But she does it, and the world doesn’t end.
Instead, Nao has finally found herself.

SO since you got me with it, how about some headcanons from you for Yu4 + Zarc for the '4 head canons' thing?
Oh yes, karma coming back to bite me in the butt XD Well it is a good thing I  adore these boys so much that I can talk about them for days if I really wanted to (and if anyone wanted to listen to me talk at all to begin with).
But seriously this took way longer than I though…geez lol
Guide:
Headcanon A: realistic
Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious
Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends
Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.
Yuya
A: Yuya used to be really scared of Yuzu when they were toddlers, always afraid to get near her when Yusho, Yoko, and Shuzo put them in the playpen together. That was due to Zarc’s deep subconsciousness being worried about her bracelet but at realizing that it had no effected on him (Yuya), Yuya slowly was able to grow out of this fear for her and why none of the other boys reacted this way (since they didn’t meet their bracelet girls until they were children, in Yugo/Rin and somewhat in Yuri/Selena case, and teenagers, for Yuto/Ruri).
B: He has a huge Performapal Hip Hippo plushie from his childhood trapped somewhere in his closest.
C: Yuya has depression (yes this is like an OBVIOUS statement at this point but I just like to point out that Yuya CLEARLY had it long before the start of the show (Synchro and Zarc really didn’t help that out at all). Yoko knew something was wrong with her son as soon as Yusho disappeared but didn’t confront Yuya about it since she didn’t want him to feel like he was having to tell her about his problems and waited until he felt ready to talk about it (since she knew what Yuya was going through from her biker days and how she reacted when someone try to make her open up). Also the reason why he wears a choker and wristbands is to hide the cut and choke scars/masks when it really got really bad at one point just as his googles were used to hide his eyes and tears from sight when he was crying (well this got really sad and messed up…)
D: After finally getting Yuto, Yugo, and Yuri kicked out of him, Yuya sometimes would find himself spilling into their personality traits when the situation called for it which would cause one of his eyes to change to match his counterparts’ he was embracing in that moment.
Yuto
A: Shun and Yuto met during an overnight school trip. Shun snuck out during the night to practice his dueling and Yuto followed him, wondering where he was going. Shun was defensive at first, thinking Yuto was going to judge him for claiming that champion duelists never sleep (they were children so child logic), but when Yuto offered to help him train, the two ended up becoming best friends at their mutual love for the game (plus both thought the others’ deck was really cool).
B: Yuto plays the deck he uses today, Phantom Knights, because he got sick and tried of his opponent, when he was younger, destroying his backrow of Spells/Traps and decided to play a deck that would take advantage of his backrow being destroyed (as seen during his duel with Shingo).
C: After forcefully taking over Yuya body during his duel with Edo, Yuto felt immediately awful after the duel was over after his anger had finally lessened. He always wanted to talk to Yuya about it but never had the courage to bring it up or the situation never allowed him to bring it up and to say he was sorry. The guilt is still eating at him to this day.
D: Yuto is graysexual. He doesn’t understand it since he attracted to Ruri but finds everything else just off. He tries asking Dark Rebellion about it any chance he can get since his dragon is ace and has an understanding of what Yuto is going through. After finding out about Zarc, however, Yuto now honestly thinks that his genes just got a bad mix of Dark Rebellion and Zarc (who was in a sexually active relationship with Ray) during the split and why he’s in the gray area between the two.
Yugo
A: I don’t remember if I mention this or not, probably not since I feel like I going to get backlash for this, but looking back at it, I’m convinced that Yugo has Asperger Syndrome.
B: Even before the whole “Pawn of Fusion” thing, Yugo still got super annoyed when someone would call him “Fusion” regardless if it was on purpose or not.
C: The reason why he’s so sensitive about his whole name thing is because when he was younger, he used to be teased a lot because of it, of why someone would call their child “Fusion” of all things, and cause he had a “girly dragon” (Clear Wing was more offended then anything). Everyone who called him that only brought back bad memories for him, especially Yuri, and that’s why he lashes out like that.
D: Yugo and Yuri got a proper rematch and Yugo ended up winning this time around (since he was around Yuri’s head space long enough to figure out his tricks and how to counter them).
Yuri
A: If Yuri didn’t find out about Zarc, he would have ended up stabbing Leo in the back at some point or another just because of how power hungry he getting at that point if Leo didn’t end up stabbing Yuri in the back first.
B: The reason why Yuri hardly had an screen time was due to the fact that he was busy taking care of his plants and feeding them his carded victims.
C: Yuri became so obsessed with Yuya was due to the fact that he finally thought he found someone who he could relate to, someone who was just like him that would accept him, not because they wanted to use him or were scared of him, but because they also understood what it meant to be a demon, even if Yuya didn’t want to agree with that. Truly it made sense for them to be one again, regardless who was the winner of their duel which was why Yuri wanted Yuya to just go ahead and get it over with when he lost. There was just nothing for him that he was leaving behind that made him want to be just Yuri anymore. He literally had nothing but the will to destroy others and well, Zarc was going to do that anyway. If anything, Yuri was the only one who ended up winning in the end with that ending we got.
D: I’m still convinced that he’s Yubel’s son and no one can tell me other wise. I also like to believe that Yubel and Yuri went to all the other Yu-Gi-Oh series, grabbed their Plant Users, and brought them to a garden sanctuary.
Zarc
A: Before using his Supreme King deck, Zarc played Pendulum Magicians (and considering they are the best deck of the format competitively at the moment, no wonder he became the top duelist in the world).
B: Zarc tries to throw his dragons surprise birthday parties. Since none of them really have birthdays, Zarc just picks the days at random, sometimes multiple times a year, but Odd-Eyes, Dark Rebellion, Clear Wing, and Starving Venom always find out about them since 1: Zarc isn’t very good at hiding secrets from them (since they are always on him and can always see what he’s doing) and 2: when he goes to the bakery and orders a dragon size cake. They at least try to act surprise for him and have fun trying to figure out which one of them is having the birthday this time around.
C: Like Yugo, Zarc grew up as an orphan on the streets and the reason why he started entertaining people in the first place was to earn money as a street performer just so he could take care of himself and to mask his own sadness at his reality from his dragons and himself by making others happy.
D: Zarc was half Duel Spirit even before fusing with his dragons (having a human father and a Duel Spirit mother (so he’s a demigod I guess you could say).

Voyage Into 空白(Kuhaku (Space))
VIK
PROLOGUE
Once upon a time, there was a little boy named Viktor Nikiforov. Born into a prosperous family, he had an incredible obsession with space. This is the story of him and the former crown prince JJ.
During his ninth birthday party, Viktor was allowed to look through the telescope of a renowned scientist. Ever since, he was fascinated with space and everything about it. “I want to explore space!” he exclaimed happily to his parents. For some reason they didn’t happy about that. Viktor was confused, for they never let him near a telescope again. They wanted him to be a lawyer like them to continue the family legacy.
Viktor’s parents died on a Thursday when he was eleven. They were murdered in their sleep, broken bodies found at the break of dawn. Someone had robbed quite a bit of their riches too. The only reason why Viktor wasn’t harmed was because he was at a friend’s house. He was sent to an orphanage as he had no other close relatives. He mourned, but he felt like he should have cried more. He was never really that close to them anyways, nor did he ever feel that they truly loved him.
To Viktor, the orphanage was strange at first. When he first moved in, there were whispers, for he had come from a rich and wealthy family. Being a relatively social person though, he made friends quickly and easily. Since they had to stick together through tough times, the kids in the orphanage were like his second family.
The first time Viktor met JJ was when the royal family decided to visit a few orphanages, as the orphanages in the area were less than stellar. He noticed how the young prince seemed restless, energetic, and slightly arrogant (he could relate), even going as far as to tease young Yuri about his small stature and obsession with cats. This resulted in the toddler beating JJ with a shoe. They talked, and while Viktor found JJ slightly irritating, he was ok with this because JJ was enraptured with space, much like Viktor.
They met again in a bustling market 4 years later. Viktor was surprised JJ still remembered him. They exchanged contact information and parted ways again. The prince wasn’t supposed to wander the streets.
Viktor and JJ kept in touch, both growing weary of the fast paced everyday life, both wanting to escape. Eventually, they decided to meet in person to talk about their plans.
They decided that they would meet at night, steal a government-issue space cruiser with the help of local acquaintance and tech expert Seung Gil (he owed JJ a favor), and silently fly away.
Viktor didn’t pack much. Just a bit of food, water, a few pairs of extra clothes, all his money, and a towel. He took Yuri’s knife shoes (the boy had allowed him to take them, albeit reluctantly) and put on a black sweater. Outside of the atmosphere, the temperature would drop very fast. Even if the space cruiser would be able to keep it comfortable, it was better to be safe than sorry. Plus, it would help to blend in with the environment. Taking one last look at his roommates and a deep breath, Viktor quietly picked open the window and snuck out. He would miss them. The crisp, cool air brushed his face, and he took to the alley shadows, where JJ would be lurking in the dark, waiting for him.
Chapter One
Viktor and JJ snuck quietly down the hallways of a top secret government building. Seung Gil had hacked all the doors and security systems so they could get through without sounding an alarm or notifying anyone of their presence. The only threat was if they happened to be caught by a wandering android or living guard. The atmosphere was rather ominous in the building. Viktor shivered, feeling uneasy.
“Seung Gil, where do we go from here?” Viktor hissed into his earpiece.
“Turn left, there’s a door. Open the door. There’s your ship,” came the response. Viktor and JJ snuck into the room, careful not to make a sound.
The ship was magnificent. A soft blue glow glinted off the shiny white exterior, and the streamlined shape suggested that it was extremely fast. Golden letters dubbed (or subbed, take your pick) the ship as Victory. Most of the top half was covered in glass. Viktor stepped up to it and took out a key card (they had stolen one not too long before). As soon as he stepped inside, an alarm started blaring, “UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS DETECTED. UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS DETECTED, ROOM 39.”
Guards came charging in and Viktor panicked. “JJ, start up the ship please, and let me borrow your laser gun!” JJ tossed him the gun and ran to the control panel. “Seung, I thought you disabled all the alarms!”
Seung Gil’s voice came through, sounding slightly worried for once, “I thought I did, but I guess my hacking didn’t go all the way through! It’s really hard hacking through these government buildings, they have state-of-the-art tech! It doesn’t matter, but please pay attention to your surroundings, as you are in immediate danger.” One of the guards had managed to climb in, and Viktor shot him. The laser was reflected back, and Viktor was confused. Then he realized the guard’s coat was impenetrable.  He would have to get blood on his knife shoes, or at the very least, knock the guy out. The ship started to take off, and Viktor charged at the surprised guard, knocking his head with the side of his shoe, as he didn’t want to kill the guard. He took the coat, then pushed the guard off the ship.
Viktor felt a little guilty, but it was necessary. He looked at the coat. It was purple with three gold loops on the chest and one on the left shoulder. He shrugged it on and turned towards JJ who was frantically trying to work the ship but failing. The ship steadied and JJ let out a whoop, “I did it!”
“No, you dumbass, I did it,” Seung Gil’s voice sounded through their earpieces. “Both of you need a crash course in ship flying. Aren’t you glad I’m here? Hover above my house for this lesson, because if you leave the atmosphere of this planet, we’ll lose connection. I’ll be waiting.”
They were hovering about 50 dors (roughly equal to about 2 human meters) above the building. JJ started up the ship again…well, tried to. “JJ, please let Viktor fly the ship.” Seung Gil ordered, sounding slightly annoyed.
JJ smirked, “The king never backs down from a challenge!” They heard Seung Gil grumble and curse under his breath, something about goddamn arrogant princes and I didn’t sign up for this much work.
Viktor decided to do something before Seung Gil got too annoyed. He walked over and tapped JJ on the shoulder. “Would you kindly let me drive the ship?” he said with his best heart shaped smile. His voice had a threatening edge. There was something adorable, yet oddly terrifying about it when he did that.
However, JJ wasn’t fazed. “You can fly it after me. After all, the king always deserves to go-“
He didn’t get to finish his sentence as Viktor picked him up out of the chair and sat down in his place. Viktor grinned, “Thanks for letting someone who actually knows how to fly the ship at the controls!” JJ pouted and proceeded to sit down in another chair, playing on his
iPhone 96X.
Viktor started up the ship again, and in no time, they were 50 dors above Seung Gil’s house.
“And that is the navigation panel. This ship runs on space dust so you don’t have to worry about power. Any more questions?” Seung Gil asked over JJ’s iPhone 96X on video call. Viktor and JJ both shook their heads. “Great. Go explore space or something. My debt has been granted so please don’t bother me again. Goodbye,” Seung Gil then hung up.
“Where do we go from here?” JJ exclaimed, excitement glimmering in his eyes.
“We can go anywhere we want!” Viktor exclaimed happily, excited as well. He started up the ship again, and they raced away, sucked up by the sunrise and vanished into air.
Chapter 2
Soon after leaving their dear home planet of Glavnaya, Viktor and JJ paused to stare at the beautiful wonders that their eyes beheld. The faraway stars were sparkling specks in the sky, and even though they had seen their own home planet from space in pictures, somehow seeing it in person was even more stunning. Pale pink cotton candy clouds swirled around the planet, and rich orange ground peeked through. The deep purple waters had never seemed more gorgeous.
Interstellar space travel had been a part of Glavnaya for quite some time, so Viktor and JJ had the option of faster than light travel. Viktor revved up the engine, and they proceeded to zip towards the nearest solar system, approximately 5 light years away.
Viktor used the navigation panel like Seung Gil instructed, but somehow, they ended up not exactly sure where they were. The panel said they were next to the planet Prathesthiy, but Viktor didn’t see anything. He wondered if the navigation panel was broken. This was until JJ pointed out that there was in fact a planet there.
Prathesthiy was covered in dark clouds, camouflaging into the background of space quite well. It was very hard to see unless you were deliberately looking for it, and even then, it was still hard to notice.
“Should we go there?” Viktor asked JJ. JJ nodded, now looking extremely excited at the prospect of exploring another planet. Viktor steered the ship towards Prathesthiy, and they began their descent, landing successfully soon after.
The terrain of Prathesthiy was bright under the incredibly dark clouds. It was eye-blindingly colorful with tall, twisty looking cities looming in the distance. Viktor and JJ stepped out of the ship, where they were immediately greeted by…giant hamsters.
They heard a squeak next to them, and saw a brown hamster with gray spots. It wore a black cap too. It tried squeaking at them, as if to communicate. Viktor and JJ shook their heads. The hamster pulled out a rectangular box and squeaked into it. Surprisingly, Viktor and JJ could understand it completely now.
“Welcome to the happy planet of Prathesthiy, travelers! What brings you here?” the hamster asked. Viktor shrugged his shoulders and tried to tell the hamster that Prathesthiy was the first planet they had come across, and that they were new to space travel. The hamster gave him the box.
“I said,” Viktor paused, “That we are new space travelers and Prathesthiy was the first planet we came-”
“I’M THE KING JJ!” JJ interrupted.
The hamster took the box back and grinned in a way that only hamsters can, “Oh I see. Come! You’ll have fun here in Prathesthiy. My name is Phichit by the way, and I’m the official greeter for anyone unfamiliar that decides to visit here…although we haven’t had many come here in a while.”
Viktor and JJ followed Phichit. After walking for a few minutes, they arrived at the main city. “Phichit, where are we going?” JJ asked.
Phichit replied, “You’re going to need better communication than that box if you’re wanting to be space travelers. Hey, but can we take a picture in front of this coffee shop? This view is aesthetic.”
Viktor stared, “How do hamsters take pictures…?”
Phichit grinned and took out smaller rectangle, “This is a phone specially designed for life forms that don’t have opposable thumbs!” He pressed a paw on the screen, and a hologram appeared in front of him. He swiped and tapped a few times on the hologram and then said, “Smile, everyone!” The picture was taken, and Phichit posted it on what looked like a social networking site, “They call me Hamster King of Social Media for a reason,” Phichit declared proudly.
They moved on from the café, and arrived at a small store called “Universal Communications”. The shop, as promised, was filled with communication gadgets of all kinds. Phichit led them to an aisle near the back, and pointed to a rack of moustaches, “Those are the most reliable and probably the most permanent translator you can have,” he said.
“The…mustaches?” Viktor asked.
Phichit nodded, “You eat them. They’re nontoxic and won’t get stuck in your throat, I promise.” Viktor and JJ looked warily at the mustaches, wondering if Phichit was trying to kill them. “They also make excellent selfie props if you decide not to eat them!” Phichit exclaimed happily. JJ decided Phichit was too innocent to be plotting anything bad. Viktor was still wary. Phichit bought two mustaches, one for Viktor and one for JJ.
“Eat them,” Phichit directed, “Nothing bad will happen.” JJ took a small bite of a mustache. It was hairy and felt weird, but that was to be expected.   Surprisingly though, it was kind of delicious. The mustache had a slightly sweet, but nutty flavor. It also tasted a bit like over the counter medicine. Suddenly, he could understand all the hamsters around them. Without much thought, he quickly ate the rest of the mustache.
Viktor sniffed the mustache but didn’t eat it. There was something off about this. One does not just simply eat facial hair. He pretended to take a bite, but slipped it in his pocket instead.
Phichit led them to a restaurant. “You must be hungry,” he said, “Let me treat you to one of the best dining spots in the universe. You’ll never want to leave once you’ve eaten here.” Viktor and JJ followed him.
Delicious aromas hit their senses as soon as they stepped in. They could smell the various rich scent spices, and the sugary scent of cake, among other things. They sat down at a booth and waited for someone to take their order.
Soon, a hamster in a worker’s uniform approached them. Viktor could not understand the
sequence of squeaks, but judging by JJ’s response, the hamster must have asked, “How may I take your order?”
He ordered something that looked like a cheesecake, while Phichit and JJ ordered something similar to pancakes. They waited a little while, and the food soon arrived.
The food was so delicious that JJ swore his taste buds had died and gone to heaven. It was all gone before he even realized it. He then ordered seconds, and then thirds, until he was so full he felt as if he would explode he took another bite. He still wanted more of those soft, buttery pancakes.
Viktor did not experience such things. To him, all the food looked like gray gloop mixed with bits of nuts. Utterly disgusting. He could not understand why JJ was eating his food so ravenously when it had the texture of lumpy toy slime and taste equivalent to that of dog feces.  Then it hit him. The mustaches…why would they do this?
He toyed uncomfortably with his “cheesecake”. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Phichit eyeing him curiously. Did he do this on purpose? Viktor proceeded to push the plate away from him, “I’m not hungry.”
Soon after finishing his pancakes, JJ passed out. Phichit’s eyes narrowed, and he whispered threateningly to Viktor, “You didn’t eat the mustache, did you?” His eyes were starting to glow red.
Viktor shook his head, grabbed JJ, and booked it. JJ was heavy, but adrenaline gave Viktor extra strength, and he was already in top physical condition. Viktor had just carried JJ out a few steps, when the café suddenly exploded. Bit of wood and metal flew around them. Phichit had smashed the wall, and was now coming after them like some giant fluffy adorable ball of doom. Which is exactly what he was. This spurred on Viktor further and he ran faster. He quickly hijacked a hamster ball, and threw it at Phichit.
When the hamster ball collided with Phichit, he stopped in his tracks. Phichit was now twitching erratically, with electrical sparks running all over his body, and a distorted voice that sounded somewhat like the Phichit that had greeted them when Viktor and JJ first arrived squeaked, “COMPLETE SYSTEM FAILURE. SELF-DESTRUCTION: COMMENCING IN 3…” Viktor bolted out of there. “2….” He was almost out of the city… “1…SELF-DESTRUCTION INITIATED.”  Viktor was now far out of blast radius, and watched the street and the streets around it blew up, shattered into little smithereens. He saw a lot of the hamsters glaring at him, slowly approaching him. The ship was only a few meters away. His arms and legs were hurting like all hell, but he had to do it. Painstakingly, Viktor somehow sprinted the last couple of meters to the ship. As soon as he reached the door, there was a hamster there, ready to block him off. Viktor threateningly brandished his knife shoes, and the hamster backed off, allowing Viktor to rush inside the ship and slam the door shut.
He ran over to the control panel, and then, with hamsters ramming themselves against the ship, he managed to lift the ship off of the ground and shake off any remaining hamsters. Viktor raced out of the atmosphere of Prathesthiy, panic coursing through his veins. He turned the ship on autopilot to give his arms and legs a rest. Stretching, he walked over to JJ and patted his forehead. Viktor hoped JJ was ok, as the other was still out cold. He carried JJ into the sleeping quarters and placed him on a bed, before climbing into another bed himself. The ship would be alright flying by itself for a few hours.
Viktor drifted off into a fitful sleep.
Chapter 3
When Viktor awoke again, he fell off the bed. Muttering curses under his breath, he looked at JJ on one of other beds, and saw a pair of…hamster ears?  Viktor had to admit, it was kind of adorable. He bounced on the other male’s bed in attempt to wake him up. JJ’s eyes flew open and he groaned as he sat up.
“I feel like…I feel like…I have a hangover…” JJ grumbled. He rubbed the top of his head when he felt a pair of fuzzy things that he didn’t recall being on his head. Suddenly feeling very awake, he jumped up from the bed, dislocating Viktor in the process. He looked into a nearby reflective window. The JJ reflected back at him had hamster ears. JJ cautiously pet his hamster ears. They were soft and fluffy. The king certainly could rock this look.
Meanwhile, Viktor had found something interesting. Because JJ had gotten up so fast, Viktor landed on the floor and had rolled to a previously unexplored corner of the room. There, he found a large metal object.
Upon further investigation, the object was an android. It had light, unruly brown hair, and a sparkly blue suit. A scruffy beard adorned the bottom half of its face. The android appeared to have been there for watching over the ship while no one was there to man it. Viktor carefully poked it, filled with paranoia. The thing seemed to be stable. Searching around, he found an instruction manual. He looked warily at the android, and flipped to the page with all the parts labeled. The android didn’t seem to have any trackers, nor did it look to be unsafe. Viktor felt around its back and found a power switch on the neck. He flipped it.
Immediately, Viktor felt a faint vibrating through the metal. Then, the android stood up, eyes starting to glow blue. The glow intensified, and then regulated. The android stood still for a few seconds, as if trying to gain its bearings, or perhaps it was just doing a few automatic system repairs. Then, it knelt down, and enthusiastically shook Viktor’s hand, “Hi! I’m Emil, guardian of the Victory! Who are you, and how may I be of your assistance?”
Viktor blinked and smiled his heart shaped smile, “I’m Viktor. Nice to meet you, Emil!” The android bounced back to his feet, and almost tripped on his charging cable. Viktor stifled a giggle, and Emil detached himself from the wall.
By this point, JJ had detached himself from the reflective window, and was staring at Emil with undisguised awe. Emil noticed him and practically bounded over. “Hi! I’m Emil, guardian of the Victory! Who are you, and how may I be of your assistance?” he greeted JJ.
JJ clapped his hands gleefully, “I’m King JJ, captain of this ship-”
Viktor coughed loudly and muttered under his breath, “And I smell some bullshit.”
JJ continued on as if Viktor hadn’t said anything. “And he’s my royal subject. I don’t know where we’re headed, but we’ll have fun all the while.”
Emil saluted and said, “You should stop by Obchodovani soon. It’s a universal trading spot, only 2 light years away, and you need more supplies.”
“Do you know how to get there?” Viktor asked.
“If it’s okay with the captain, I can fly the ship.” Emil looked back and forth between Viktor and JJ, still unsure which one was captain.
They both told Emil to go ahead as they glared at each other. Not long after, they laughed it off, but both knew the debate was not settled.
Soon, Emil called JJ and Viktor over. “We have arrived at Obchodovani. Should I land?” he asked. Viktor nodded, and so did JJ. Emil proceeded to fly the ship into the planet. This one looked much more friendly than Prathesthiy. It was a pretty blue color, with bits of orange dotted here and there. They landed on a road that had a plethora of other aircraft stationed on it and stepped out.  “The market isn’t far from here,” Emil said. When he looked back, he saw the other two distracted, enraptured by the sights of the foreign planet.
On the travel to the market (which wasn’t very long), they came across a multitude of different creatures, all of which looked very busy. Viktor and JJ could not help staring. Soon, they arrived. There were even more creatures at the market. Colorful foods lined the shop windows, with high tech items almost right next to them. Shops of all sizes and shapes seemed to stretch on forever in the street.
“Do you guys think I can get a translator that doesn’t involve me eating mustaches and growing hamster ears?” Viktor inquired.
“You should go to Otabek’s Multi-Dimensional Translators and Motorcycles for that. You’ll also probably need disguises because pretty much the entire galaxy will be after you because you assisted in killing the Hamster King of Social Media,” Emil advised cheerfully.
JJ was shocked, “How do you know all of this?”
“The intergalactic social media is very complex nowadays. When a user dies, it automatically makes a post on how they died, and you two are no doubt featured in that post. Because you took a selfie with him at a coffee shop, everyone knows what you look like. He had literally billions of followers too,” Emil informed, still way too happy, “I know this because I’m a very advanced android and can access all the data on the intergalactic internet.”
Viktor pointed to a nearby shop, “Georgi’s Costume and Make-Up shop is nearby. How about we go there for disguises?” The exterior of the shop was a dark, sparkly purple, and a pair of make-up caked eyes surrounded the sign. They walked into the shop and a small tinkling bell announced their entrance. A man with a black pompadour and extremely dramatic purple make-up sat behind the counter. As they walked closer, they could see very visible tear tracks down his face. The man noticed their presence and greeted them with a half-smile.
They walked through the store, pausing occasionally to look at wigs and outfits that looked acceptable. Viktor eventually decided on wearing a mask that had bright shiny teal melting into gold. He would cut is hair later. JJ found a nice green suit and put on a purple mask, then proceeding to style his hair straight, but curving it around his hamster ears. They walked to the checkout counter where Georgi himself was waiting.
As JJ handed Georgi the mask, Georgi put his hand on JJ’s shoulder. “Anya used to love the color purple…that was one of her favorite items in this store,” he sighed. JJ was somewhat creeped out by this gesture, mumbled a quick thanks, and took the mask and suit. Viktor proceeded to give his mask to Georgi. Apparently, Georgi was not done talking about “Anya”. He sighed once more and a single tear ran down his face, “She used to wear a dress that had the same colors as that…It matched so well with a purple mask. My Anya, she was beau-”
Emil quickly stepped in before Georgi could ramble more. “While we would love to hear more about Anya, we need to go places. I’m sorry, Georgi, but farewell, and good luck with Anya, even though I don’t even know what happened.” He took Viktor and JJ by the arms and marched them out of the store, leaving the heartbroken shopkeeper to wail once again about his Anya.
Emil breathed a sigh of relief when he stepped out of the shop (well he didn’t exactly breathe), and said, “It’s time to go to Otabek’s first. Hopefully he won’t try to tell us everything about his love life…”
After a few minutes of walking, they arrived at a gray building, which was a drastic change from all the bright and colorful structures surrounding it. Upon entering the shop, they saw the shopkeeper sweeping the floor while attending to the hundreds of gadgets on the walls and motorcycles in the middle of the room. He seemed to be a gray life form known by some as an “octopus”, or something like it, as he was able to breathe on land.
Viktor coughed, “Excuse me sir…is it Otabek? May we have your best universal translator?”
Otabek jiggled his body over to one of the shelves and pointed a tentacle to one of the devices. “Most of my items have similar quality, but this shelf contains my best,” he said. His voice was distorted, almost intelligible, and his stoic expression never changed.
Viktor, JJ and Emil stepped over to the shelf. Their eyes bright with excitement, Viktor and JJ examined the objects with unparalleled glee, fascinated by the devices in their hands. Eventually, Viktor picked out a small gadget he could attach to his ear.  “How much does this cost?”
Otabek thoughtfully looked at the device and grumbled out, “That’ll be…500 coins.”
Viktor fished around his pockets and brought out a Glavnayan bill equal to 500 coins. “Will this do?” he questioned.
Otabek nodded and took the bill. “Thank you, have a good time on your travels,” he said, face blank as ever, and showed them to the door.
Trekking back to the ship, Viktor laughed joyously as he listened to all the voices of creatures throughout the universe. It was like a while new world had been opened up to him.
JJ smiled at him and chuckled, “It’s exciting, isn’t it?” Viktor nodded, and as they walked back in a comfortable silence, they even heard their names and Phichit’s mentioned several times.
Upon arriving back at the ship, they found that the door slightly ajar, unlocked.
Chapter 4
“Did you forget to lock the ship?” JJ asked Viktor, a hint of annoyance showing on his face.
Viktor answered, “…I must have forgotten. You know how I am with memory, right?”
Emil pushed open the door. “We should check everything to make sure nothing has been tampered with or stolen,” he stated, still in the annoyingly cheerful tone.
They decided to split up and search for anything that seemed out of place or missing. Soon, they all met back up together. Nothing seemed amiss, and they all breathed a sigh of relief. This time, JJ took to the controls, and they lifted off. Since everyone needed to sleep, and Emil needed to charge, JJ left the ship on autopilot before dozing off.
Viktor awoke to the sound of rustling. His eyes took their sweet time adjusting to the darkness, and as he squinted, he decided his brain was too tired for this, and tried to go back to sleep. Still, an unsettling feeling that something wasn’t right kept nagging at him. Finally succumbing to that feeling, he stumbled out of the sleeping room.
As Viktor trudged around the ship, he started feeling like this was all a waste of time. He was missing his beauty sleep, dammit! Then, as he was about to leave the kitchen, a shadowy figure slipped by his peripheral vision. He was standing next to a convenient light switch, and mumbled a tired, “Who be?” before switching on the lights and then swearing while regretting his life decisions. Meanwhile, the shadowy figure had gone away, and Viktor mumbled another string of drowsy swears. At this point, he assumed that the figure was just a part of his half-asleep imagination, before he saw it slip by another door.
Viktor was beginning to get annoyed. “Who are you?” he asked, agitation at the tip of his tongue. “I’m not going to hurt you, but I would like to go back to sleep.”  There was only silence at these words, and Viktor sighed. He hated to do this, but he walked over to the control panel and slapped the alarm button, alerting everyone of an intruder and probably scaring the ever loving hell out of JJ. The alarm rang, and JJ jumped out of the chair, flailing and tumbling to the floor. Viktor wheezed in laughter.
“whAAAA-HAhnnngh-oof- TURN THAT FUCKING ALARM OFF!” JJ’s startled screams rang through the ship, and Viktor swore he heard the faintest chuckle somewhere. Soon, after JJ had gotten his bearings, he glared at Viktor and grumbled, “You asshole. What happened?”
Viktor cleared his throat and winked, “There’s an intruder on this ship. They won’t reveal themselves, and you’re a heavy sleeper, so what can I say except you’re welcome.”
JJ blinked, and he reluctantly accepted the fact that Viktor had good reason to wake him up. “Okay, I’m going to go turn on Emil, and we’ll split up and try to find him.” Viktor nodded, and began searching in the kitchen where he first saw the figure. But nobody came.
Soon, Viktor heard a call from Emil, as he just used his built-in scanner and tracked down the intruder almost immediately. The intruder was in a random storage room. Viktor accidently stopped by several rooms before finally stopping at the right one. The trespasser had almost shoulder-length dark brown hair and a nervous grin. He had tan skin that melted into fur and goat legs. Some organisms call these creatures “satyrs”. Viktor was ready to jump at him with his knife shoes if the satyr tried anything funny, and he made a point of this by pointing at his activated shoes and smiling threateningly.
“H-hi I’m Leo,” the young man stuttered out. He was clearly nervous, as one naturally was when you had two sleepy, annoyed men, one with knife shoes, and a multifunctional android staring at you.
“Would you like to tell us who you are and why you’re here?” Viktor asked, voice cold as the ice only found at the furthest reaches of any given solar system.
“Er…I’m a traveling merchant, and my ship was hijacked and stolen on Obchodovani. It was parked right next to yours. I probably should have locked it. So I boarded your ship because I needed some form of travel. It was also unlocked and nearby. It wasn’t long before I heard you people walk on, and I hid myself in the hidden rooms usually in furthest reaches of every ship that most people don’t realize exist. Any more questions?”
Viktor squinted at Leo, “Nah, I don’t buy it.”
“Look man, do you want proof?” Leo asked anxiously. Viktor squinted more, but nodded. JJ had gone at this point, too sleepy to care that much, as he figured Viktor would be pissed enough to deal with the intruder on his own.
Leo beckoned for Viktor and Emil to follow him. They went through many hallways before entering through a wall, surprisingly. Viktor and Emil were greeted with the sight of several bags and an ukulele. The bags were filled with goods. Leo walked over to one of them and pulled out a card.
Pointing at the card, Leo said with a hint of agitation in his tone, “See here? It says ‘Leo De La Iglesia: Certified Traveling Merchant’. Look, it even has an official universal council stamp.”
Viktor was finally convinced, and deactivated his knife shoes. “Fine, I believe you. But we’re going to drop you off at the nearest planet, okay? How did you even find this place?”
Leo was relieved, “…I accidently tripped over one of my bags and fell into the wall. How far away is the nearest planet anyways?”
Viktor groaned, and led Leo to the control panel, which was literally on the opposite side of the ship.
“We’re approximately…fifty light years away from the nearest habitable planet that isn’t Obchodovani.” Viktor sighed, “It’s gonna take around 49 hours, so settle in, but don’t get too comfortable.”
“Okay! I can play the ukulele and sing for you as payme-” Leo was cut off.
“Please don’t, I need sleep. I guess we’ll allow you to sleep in one of the beds on the ship.” Viktor grumbled. Leo nodded, and they headed to the sleeping quarters. “Emil, please keep an eye on our new friend. I don’t completely trust him yet,” Viktor commanded. Emil saluted.
A few hours later, Viktor awoke to the sound of the cheerful playing of an ukulele. He rolled over, but tumbled to the floor again. Wearily blinking his sleep-drunk eyes, he stood up, stretched, and looked around for the ukulele noise. Faint words passed through his hearing, “…wherever I go, god stays with me.” He could see that JJ, Emil, and the stowaway…what was his name again? Viktor couldn’t remember too well. Sounds of applause came through the door as Emil and JJ congratulated Leo. Right, the stowaway’s name was Leo. They were already awake, and Leo was strumming his instrument, singing a cheerful tune. His voice was rich and beautiful. It warmed you like the sun right after a long, cold winter. Viktor decided this wasn’t the worst to way to wake up.
Just as he was about to greet his friends and Leo, he paused and observed them from afar. They all looked so happy, bright smiles as they sang along to the tune, albeit off key.  Viktor grinned because he hadn’t ever seen his crew members smile this much before. Maybe this stowaway wasn’t so bad after all.  He almost didn’t want to let Leo leave in forty-two hours.
“Good morning everyone! I see Leo has fit himself quite well into this little group!”
“Hi...uh…you didn’t tell me your name yesterday.”
“Viktor. Nice to meet you too.”
The next forty-two hours were spent getting to know each other, sleeping, more singing, admiring the cosmos, playing random games, and a social media break.
“Hey, aren’t you people the guys who blew up Phichit?” Leo inquired curiously after tapping through his phone for a few minutes.
“Self-defense! We weren’t trying to blow him up! In fact, I quite liked him!” JJ said defensively.
“I wasn’t even activated yet,” Emil looked up from where he was fiddling with a random metal bit.
“Ok, but why would you blow him up? What did he even do?” Leo asked.
Viktor tapped his chin in thought, “See, he was a friendly guy at first. Shit happened and I ended up throwing a hamster ball at him. And before you know it, the Hamster King of Social Media is now the Hamster King of Death by Hamster Ball.”
Leo blinked disbelievingly, and then just accepted the explanation. He looked at the navigation panel, and saw they were less than a light year away from the nearest habitable planet: Tiandian. “We’re almost there… I think I might miss you guys, despite only knowing you for 49 hours.”
“We’re not going to leave immediately after dropping you off…we’re going to explore it too!” Viktor said, eyes lighting up.
“It apparently has the most delectable sweets and bakery treats in the entire universe,” Emil informed, “I’d love to go there!”
The last thirty minutes on the ship were spent with slightly melancholic, but still happy chatter. It died down when JJ called they were landing soon. The atmosphere of Tiandian was tinted a pastel cotton candy pink. They plunged into the atmosphere, and crystals of sugar lined the swirled candy pathways. The ship plopped down near a small café. Everyone aboard the ship hopped off, and this time, Viktor made sure to lock the ship.
Chapter 5
They decided to enter the cafe. It was very cozy, with gray paint and homey paintings covering the walls and light brown wooden floors. A small man sipping an extra creamy spiced caramel rainbow swirl macchiato and a light fluffy cinnamon roll with extra cinnamon sat at one of the tables, scrolling through his Galaxy Phone 101. He had messy light brown hair and a smattering of freckles across his cheeks. He was also a satyr.
Leo stopped dead when he saw the man, and his face lit up. “G-guang! Ji-ji! It’s been a long time!”
The man at the table almost spat out his coffee before quickly swallowing it down, looking at Leo in shock. An adorable smile and a blush spread across his cheeks as he almost knocked down the table to leap into Leo’s arms.
“Leo! Where have you been? You were supposed to meet me on Huiyi a month ago!” the man muttered, rubbing his face in Leo’s sweatshirt.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry… I wish I could have, but business affairs popped up, and then my ship got hijacked…I hope you don’t mind too much.” Leo sighed patting the man’s hair.
“Are they…dating or something?” Viktor whispered to JJ, accidently a bit too loud.
Leo and the man’s cheeks flushed, before Leo said, “No um…. fuck I forgot to introduce you.” The man shifted a little behind Leo. He seemed shy. “Guys, this is Guangdong. He’s my best friend and local food enthusiast. Ji, the one with the silver hair is Viktor. He and JJ are the captains of the ship. The one with the black hair is JJ. Emil is the one with the brown hair. He’s an android,” Leo introduced everyone.
“Nice to meet you,” Guang Hong moved to shake hands with the crew members. He still had a shy smile and a flushed face. When he got to Emil, the android gave him a big bear hug.
Guang stiffened in shock, but hesitantly returned the hug. He backed off soon, and somewhat relieved, and returned to Leo’s side.
“Are you people going to get food?” Guang Hong asked, “Its super good. I recommend the sugary vanilla bean cinnamon roll.”
They stepped to the counter and ordered their respective food items. Soon, the orders arrived.  As soon as the icy mocha latte with extra whipped cream, peppermint sprinkles, and a cherry on top hit Viktor’s tongue, he knew he had died and gone to heaven. The sweet taste of peppermint blended into the rich coffee taste in a heavenly manner, and a bit of whipped cream topped it all off with a bit of fluff that was creamy yet light. A succulent, enticing red cherry decorated the top as he saved it for last. The entire thing just melted on his tongue pleasantly, and Viktor almost moaned. Before he knew it, he was finished. A sweet, icy taste still lingered. There was still that juicy red cherry left. He raised the moist cherry to his lips, licking it before biting down on it, letting the juices flow into his mouth. The heavenly juice traveled down his esophagus and he didn’t think he could ever grow tired of it. All too soon, he finished the rest of the cherry.
“That was definitely the most delicious thing I’ve ever had…” Viktor breathed out, stars in his eyes.
“I know right? That’s why I decided to live here,” Guang Hong munched on his cinnamon roll.
Emil had finished his milkshake before Viktor and was staring at JJ, who was taking his sweet time finishing his sugary vanilla bean cinnamon roll. The man looked like he was enjoying it way too much. But with food items like these, it was hard to judge what counted as enjoying something too much. Was there really such a thing as enjoying oneself too much? Soon, JJ finished as well, and the group headed out to explore the streets with Guang Hong being a tour guide. Leo kept his merchant bags with him, so he tried selling some of his goods to passerby.
Guang Hong led them down the streets of Tiandian, and they figured out the city they were in was called Rouguijan. They pathways were covered with miscellaneous sweet food stands, making it hard for Viktor to resist impulse buying all the foods he saw. They just all looked so delicious. The buildings also had some interesting architecture, with a mix of skyscrapers and plain flat lands. They explored the city for another two hours, before finally deciding it was time to leave. Soon, they arrived back at the ship.
“Are you two not coming with us?” Viktor asked when he, Emil, and JJ all boarded the ship but Guang Hong and Leo stayed where they were. They shook their heads.
“We’ve really enjoyed our time with you, but I honestly don’t think traveling the cosmos as anything other than a merchant and a loner is for me,” Leo said shaking his head, albeit sadly, “And Jiji is still studying.”
“Oh…then do you have any SNS accounts?” JJ inquired. Leo and Guang Hong nodded.
They exchanged social media accounts and a few last hugs before JJ, Emil, and Viktor stepped back on the ship and the doors shut behind them.
Right before the doors closed, they heard Guang Hong ask, “Hey Leo, when I finish my studies, can I travel with you?”
“Always Guang, always.”
JJ started up the ship again and Viktor looked out of the window to see Leo and Guang Hong waving at them from the ground. Viktor and Emil furiously waved back before the ship took off and zoomed out of the atmosphere.
I N T E R L U D E
Viktor, JJ, and Emil traveled the universe at will, occasionally completing quests and conquering pirate ships for money. They became the Vigilantes of the Universe, and were somewhat legends. Sometimes, they arranged meetings with Guang Hong and Leo, or other friends they made along their travels. This continued for several years until at one point in time…
Chapter 6
It had been 8 years since Viktor and JJ set out from Glavnaya. They made history and were well known across the universe. On this day, Viktor was driving the ship, Emil was cleaning the kitchen, and JJ was taking a nap.
“Would it be okay to visit Glavnaya?” Viktor wondered, “It’s been 8 years, surely they would have forgotten us by now.”
“You forget that we’re famous space vigilantes,” Emil called from the kitchen, “They’ll probably recognize us.”
“Yeah but…” For the first time in forever, Viktor felt a twinge of homesickness. He shook it off and focused on steering the ship. “But what if we wear disguises?”
“You also forget that almost every planet has DNA tracking systems now. They’d most likely still have your baby DNA.” Emil replied.
“Your right,” Viktor sighed, “Emil, can you steer the ship?”
“I’m cooking, sorry.”
Something at the back of Viktor’s mind made him want to say ‘Hi cooking, sorry, I’m dad’, but he instead pouted and said, “I can try to cook…”
“The last time you tried to cook, you almost poisoned us,” Emil was adamant about not letting Viktor cook.
Viktor sighed again, “True true, but I just want to rest right now. I’ll turn the ship on autopilot.”
Emil nodded, but then remembered Viktor couldn’t see him. “Okay,” he called.  Soon, he finished cleaning the kitchen. On his way to his charging port, he accidently tripped over a stack of books. His back slammed into a button no one had found over the course of 8 years. Suddenly, the ship was surrounded with a plethora of bright colors inside a spinning tunnel of sorts. Now that he thought about it, he remembered something…interesting one of the scientists had said during the time of his construction.
Emil laid still on the lab table, not that he could really move around. After all, he was just a head and a torso with a tangled bunch of wires and the ability to think. Scientists walked by, often carrying metal bits. They were constructing the Victory, or so he heard. “Lilia, this time travel contraption is untested. Are you really sure you want to put it on the Victory? Please don’t be too brash.” An old scientist with a fedora was speaking.
“It must be put into the Victory. Otherwise, It’ll never be tested,” Lilia’s voice was cool and determined.
The old scientist tipped his fedora at her, “Do what you must then, but please make the activation button hard to find.”
“Well I guess I must have accidently activated that contraption then…” Emil whispered to himself.  He decided not to say anything.
When Viktor woke up, he immediately noticed something was different. For one, there were more celestial bodies in the surrounding area than usual. Everything seemed to glow brightly, and the fiery stars seemed to be at the brink of explosion. Viktor peered out the window curiously, and saw that the ship was steering to a nearby planet.  The navigation panel said they were heading towards Saishu Mokutekichi. In all of his years traveling, Viktor had never even heard a mention of this planet. It seemed to be very… rainbow and dazzling. The navigation panel also said that there were life forms and it was habitable. He decided to take control of the ship and steer towards it. He still had no idea what was going on, or why the sky was unusually bedazzling, or why everything was so close together, but maybe that planet had answers.
JJ had finally woken up and trudged into the room. “…what’s up with space?” he murmured sleepily.
Viktor shrugged, “I don’t know, but I’m steering towards this random planet to find answers.”
JJ accepted this answer, and they soon landed on the mysterious rainbow planet of Saishu Mokutekichi. Colorful swirls of various harmless gases filled the air, and the ground practically glowed. Tufts of bright, lush springy grass covered it. Golden particles, almost like stardust, surrounded them. Strange creature noises resonated throughout the place. It all felt…magical. In the horizon stood a squat but fairly large house, situated between the looming trunks of two giant trees. Viktor, JJ, and Emil stepped out onto this strange planet.
A man with jet black hair and blue glasses playfully danced around the building with a big yellow space chicken. Soon, he noticed the travelers and the government-issue space cruiser.
“V-Viktor! JJ! Emil! Welcome back! It’s been a while since you last visited,” the man greeted. The chicken crowed happily, ruffling his bright yellow feathers.
“How do you know our names?!” Viktor asked, “More importantly, where are we?”
“You’re on Saishu Mokutekichi at almost the end of all time…I mean, I thought you knew that,” the man tapped his chin thoughtfully, “In all the years I’ve known you, you’ve had a bad memory, but never on this scale…”
“Who are you?!” Viktor and JJ screamed in near unison.
“E-eh? How do you not remember me? Wait…this is probably your first trip here!  Heh, you always seemed to know me before…maybe this is why. In that case, welcome, I’m Yuuri Katsuki,” Yuuri finally introduced himself, slightly bashful.
“…I would introduce myself, but you seem to already know who we are,” Viktor stated.
`Yuuri laughed lightly, “I suppose so. Come into the house then. We have cookies…and other people.”
As they walked to the house, Viktor noticed Yuuri had a nice ass.
When they arrived, they were greeted by a pretty woman with short black hair. “Yuuri, where were you? It’s time for foo- oh my, we certainly weren’t expecting you today, Emil, Viktor, JJ.” Her eyes softened a little when she said ‘JJ”.   She proceeded to give them all a big hug.
JJ pushed her off of him, but didn’t shove too hard, “Seriously, who are you people?” The woman looked hurt and a little bit embarrassed.
“JJ, darling do you not remember me?” the woman asked, “I’m Isabella, your wife.”
“…No?” JJ was confused.
“Isabella, it appears we have finally found their first time meeting us,” said Yuuri, “Therefore, they don’t really know us. It’s a little bit ironic isn’t it? The universe on the verge of collapse, and them meeting us for the first time, though they have encountered us many times before.”
“Oh, well that makes sense,” Isabella looked a bit sullen, but she accepted it.
Viktor interrupted, “How do we get out of this weird dimension?”
“It’s not another dimension, it’s the end of this universe…time-wise. There’s approximately…twenty days before it ends. Everything is almost completely crunched together,” Yuuri informed.
“How are we not dead?” JJ wondered.
“This, the great planet of Saishu Mokutekichi is the planet of the starchildren. We’ve been watching over the cosmos since more or less the beginning of time, or time in this universe. And since we need to watch over this universe until its collapse, this planet is completely protected from all the dangers out there. So even if a star is only one dor away, we wouldn’t exactly be screwed.”
Viktor was startled, “Wait, how did we get here? Where we came from, the end of the universe was super far away…”
“I think our ship has a time travel function. I accidently fell into the activation button,” Emil admitted sheepishly, “I guess it was set to this time, but actually I’m not too sure how it works. I hope the button isn’t broken from having a one hundred twenty-five-kilogram android slam into it.”
“…Let’s check first!” Yuuri suggested after a moment of silence. They went to the ship, and Emil detected that miraculously, nothing much was broken, just the outer button. That in itself would take around ten days to fix, since it was ridiculously meticulously hooked up to so many wires, and some of those wires would have to be fixed.
“That’s fine then. We should move this stack of books so no one trips over them again,” Viktor said with his oddly menacing heart-shaped smile.
“Heh…sorry,” Emil looked very embarrassed.
JJ patted his head, “It’s fine, as long as we can fix this.”
Suddenly, Viktor felt a sharp jab at his feet. The space chicken that was playing with Yuuri earlier happily pecked Viktor’s toes (Viktoes). “Whose chicken is this?” he asked as he picked up the chicken and looked at it. The chicken had a bright yellow color to his feathers and was extremely adorable. A vibrant red comb perched on his head, with a splotch of red feathers on the left side of his head. The chicken tilted his head and cooed curiously at Viktor. Viktor stared at the chicken, and cautiously pet his feathers. The chicken snuggled against him.
Yuuri smiled, “It seems like Minami likes you.” The chicken trilled in agreement, and then leapt into Yuuri’s arms as if to say, ‘but I like him better’. Yuuri set Minami back down on the ground, and the chicken rubbed himself against Yuuri’s legs, wanting cuddles.  Yuuri pet the chicken, “Viktor, meet Minami, local space chicken with a tragic backstory. I guess you could call him my chicken, but he doesn’t really have an owner…we should fix the ship before we run out of time.”
Viktor was befuddled why Yuuri changed the subject, but nodded. A loud crash sounded from somewhere, making them jump.
“Sara, please go oil yourself, we don’t want your joints to get creaky again! And have you-”
“Mickey. I’m perfectly capable of taking care of myself. You’re making my head overheat.”
“See, you need to oil your joints, and now you should go-”
Yuuri smiled, amused, “That would be the android twins. They’re uh, an interesting pair. Michele is really protective about Sara.”
“I can tell.”
“I think Isabella called them to help work on the ship. With their help, the process should take around nine days.” Yuuri said, “To be honest, we should probably go help them right now.”
“Awwww, but there’s a happy little space chicken sleeping on your feet,” Viktor cooed.
Yuuri sighed, and then picked up Minami. The chicken squawked in surprise, but settled for a small glare in Yuuri’s direction. “Sorry Minami, but I have to move,” The chicken reluctantly got off of Yuuri’s feet. They looked over to the other people and saw JJ and Isabella debating where a certain wire should hook up. Michele didn’t seem to like Emil, probably because Emil was trying to talk with his twin. Minami was there too, running around like a headless chicken, even though he did have a head.
Chapter 7
The next few days were filled with productivity as everyone worked together to fix the button. They took breaks in shifts, so Viktor and Yuuri were the only ones working at that moment. Yuuri felt some sort of bond between all of them, a bond like that of atoms among the brightest stars, and he really didn’t want these people leave so soon.
“Hey Viktor,” he said as he hooked up two more wires. The two of them were standing closer together than usual, and maybe it was just because there wasn’t that much space around the button, but Yuuri felt all warm and fuzzy inside.
Viktor looked up, “Yes?”
“I wouldn’t mind... I don’t think anyone would mind really, if you guys stayed here for a few more days…” Yuuri looked the other direction as he said this.
“Really?” Viktor face lit up with his heart-shaped smile, “I was going to ask if we could stay here for a few more days, but I guess I don’t need to.”
Yuuri smiled, a warm smile that could warm the coldest of souls. It certainly warmed Viktor. “We’re almost done fixing it, and there’s a giant lake that’s in perpetual freeze not too far from here. Shall we skate sometime?”
“Ice skating? What’s that?” Viktor was genuinely perplexed.
Yuuri stared at Viktor, “You’re Glavnayan, yet you don’t know what ice skating is?”
“No? Glavnaya never had ice, it was always warm or really hot.”
“Right, you came from when Glavnaya was still warm,” Yuuri said thoughtfully.
Viktor looked curiously at Yuuri, “What happened to Glavnaya?”
“Glavnaya doesn’t exist.”
“Eh?”
“Glavnaya turned more or less into ice and was swallowed by a black hole just nine thousand years ago,” Yuuri clarified.
“Ohh…” Viktor connected two more wires, “It’s strange knowing your planet doesn’t exist…” “Yeah.”
The two worked in comfortable silence for a while before Viktor remembered why the topic of Glavnaya’s death had been brought up. “So Yuuri, what’s ice skating?”
“You know what water is, right?”
“Of course.”
“Well sometimes, large bodies of water are frozen into ice, and you can even sing, jump, walk, run, do all sorts of stuff on it,” Yuuri explained.
Viktor looked incredibly confused. “What sorts of magical sorcery do you need to freeze that much water?”
Yuuri laughed, “You just need to have really cold temperatures, that’s all. And the only reason that lake stays cold all the time is because there’s an incubus that enjoys the cold who lives around there. He’s relatively friendly, and can probably teach you a few tricks on the ice… Unless he manages to seduce you, which mean you’ll have a very different experience that night.”
Viktor looked a lot less confused, but it was replaced with wonder. “Amazing! How do you ice skate then?”
“Uh…so you have blades on your shoes, and you…walk I guess, on them on the  ice, and you end up gliding somewhat? They’re called ice skates,” Yuuri tried to explain.
“Wow, so I’ve been wearing ice skates this entire time!” Viktor activated his knife shoes, and the blades slid out. “See? They have blades! You skate on your toes?”
“No Viktor, those are knife shoes, not ice skates! Ice skates have blades on the bottom, not the toes!” Yuuri chuckled.
“Well I guess I have to see for myself what this fascinating thing is with you later. Can JJ, Emil, Isa, Sara, Mickey, and Minami come too?”
Yuuri grinned, “Well of course! I was planning on them joining us. You know, as kind of an outing for everyone here.”
By now, they had finished repairing the button, and were chatting idly, staring at the stars that appeared giant and were never gone from the sky, a stunning yet slightly scary sight.
“We’ll go tomorrow.”
When they arrived back at the shack, food was waiting for them. An assortment of wonderful dishes adorned the table, prepared with love by JJ and Isabella. They made the androids take a break from doing all the chores, so the three were playing with Minami outside in some sort of strange game of hide-and-seek tag. The poor chicken was having trouble keeping up with the androids. Even so, he was having fun, and they took a break whenever he needed to.
They heard Isabella calling for dinner but didn’t go inside because androids don’t eat. However, Minami did need to eat, so he went inside.
Dinner was a cheery affair as usual. Delicious food, laughter, and chatter filled the table, and Viktor felt…at home? It was his first time really experiencing this feeling, but he decided he liked it. Even though he had only known them for several days, Viktor felt like he had known them forever. Now he really didn’t want to go back. He stared at the table with a pensive and slightly melancholic smile on his face. There was a beautiful warmth blossoming in his chest. He felt a somewhat familiar point in his toe, so he absentmindedly put a chicken nugget under the table. An indignant squawk startled him out of his chance as a pair of beady eyes glared at him from under the table. Suddenly, a chicken flew and smacked him in the face, landing in his lap. It took a moment for him to realize what happened. The table had gone silent.
“OH! Oh Minami, I’m so sorry! Um… CORN! I forgot you were a chicken!” Viktor frantically gave corn to the chicken. At this, the table burst out laughing, and Minami seemed to be laughing in a chicken way. He was still glaring at Viktor. Viktor was a little embarrassed, but shook it off and laughed along.  Viktor was dreading the end of the universe. He never wanted to leave.
Chapter 8
Twelve hours later, after a dinner and some sleep, the group headed out to go ice skating. There had been extra ice skates in a storage shed, so everyone was accounted for. Yuuri led everyone else into the forest with a Minami in his arms. Soon, they arrived at the lake.
A lone silhouette of a figure danced on the ice, graceful body in fluid motion. Viktor watched in awe and quietly whispered in awe to Yuuri, “So is that what ice skating is?” Yuuri nodded. The figure seemed to have noticed them, and in the blink of an eye appeared in front of the group. It was a tall, suggestively dressed male with wings and a devil tail; your average incubus. He had blond hair styled into an undercut with green eyes and long, lustrous lashes. He was wearing an outfit with a translucent gray top and sparkly red lines. The sides were more or less nonexistent, back and front being connected by a crisscross pattern and revealing slivers of skin.
“Why hello there,” the incubus said. He had a deep, buttery voice.
“Hi Chris,” Yuuri greeted. Isabella waved, and Minami squawked in greeting.
“Welcome back~,” Chris sauntered over, “Haven’t seen you three in a while,” he tilted his head towards Viktor, JJ, and Emil.
“Why does he know us too?” Viktor asked.
Chris looked shocked and slightly hurt, “Mon chérie, do you not remember me?” Yuuri quickly whispered something to Chris, and his expression faded back to normal. “Oh, well I guess that makes sense. Welcome to my lake! Just put on your skates and follow me onto the ice.”
They did as they were told, and soon were having a whale of a time after some instruction. Viktor couldn’t keep his balance and had to constantly rely on Yuuri for support.
“Now take my hands, come on! Right, left, right, left, slow down…Keep going, you got this!” Yuuri encouraged.
Viktor looked at Yuuri, and felt a warm sensation in his chest. He moved his feet to try and match the pace of Yuuri, and for a moment, they were perfectly in sync. This was until Viktor slipped again. He laughed it off, but then told Yuuri he was going to sit out for a while.
Sitting on the edges of the lake, Viktor watched everyone skate. He decided Yuuri on ice was a very lovely show. Minami was trying to skate, but he wasn’t wearing skates. He awkwardly flapped on the ice, seeming to do a little boogie. Michele was teaching Emil how to skate, and the enthusiastic android was learning very quickly. Nearby, Chris was skating seductively and moving his hips in a very mesmerizing and intoxicating manner. Viktor had to force himself to tear his eyes away. Meanwhile, JJ was already somewhat decent at skating due to either Isabella’s instructing or natural talent. It was like they were skating a serenade for two, or maybe JJ was skating his own theme. In regards to love, Viktor had never thought that much about it. However, an inferno in his heart blossomed like the perfume of the flowers whenever he looked at Yuuri. He didn’t quite know what it meant, but he supposed his heart was trying to tell him his emotions were still alive. His train of thought was cut off when Sara sat down next to him.
“Hey Viktor,” she greeted.
“Hey.”
“Are you going back on the ice?” Sara questioned.
“Yeah, I’m just admiring the wa-” Viktor was interrupted by Minami sliding to a halt next to his feet. The chicken let out a pant as if to say ‘I’m exhausted, please help’. Viktor picked Minami up and sat him down on his lap, petting his comb. The soft ball of feathers more or less melted into Viktor’s arms. Viktor looked at Sara, and Sara stretched her arms towards Viktor. He handed Minami to her and picked up his skates to go skate again.
Once on the ice again, Viktor immediately sought out Yuuri to continue their skating. Yuuri taught Viktor well for several hours, and they were soon dancing around each other like they had been doing it for years. They danced and danced until their legs were sore, and finally collapsed happily into a heaping pile of snow, near where most of their friends were waiting. Chris had gone back into his house. Only one pair was left on the ice, and that was Emil and Michele. They looked more alive than ever.
“Should we go back soon?” Viktor heard JJ ask Isabella.
“Let’s let Michele and Emil have a little more fun, and maybe then we’ll head back.”
They watched the two androids for a few more minutes. This gave Viktor and Yuuri time to recuperate and sit up.
“Michele! Emil!” Sara called, “It’s time to leave!”
The two androids, seemingly in a daze, broke apart and almost looked like they were blushing. Michele definitely was.
On the way back to the house, Viktor was silent and staring at Yuuri’s back. Some people came up to him occasionally, but he was in deep thought.
In regards to love, he had never felt this way before.
Chapter 9
A few hours of sleep and a stretch later, Viktor awoke to the delicious smell of food being made. These days were passing by too quickly for his liking. He could feel the ever looming end of the universe as it came closer, stars slowly growing before his eyes. Shaking these thoughts out of his mind, Viktor decided he would stay here until the very last second, because he definitely couldn’t bear leaving Yuuri, Minami, Isabella, Michele, and Sara behind. It really hadn’t been that long, but Viktor didn’t care. Currently, the smell of food was tempting him, so  Viktor pushed that thought to the back of his mind and decided he would tell Emil and JJ later.
Breakfast was delicious as usual, yet it was somber. Viktor, JJ, and Emil were due to leave on that day since the button was completely fixed. Since the universe was ending, Isabella, Yuuri, and Minami, the starchildren were starting to fade. They had woken up one day and Emil noticed he could see the countertop a little bit through their bodies. Viktor still didn’t want to leave yet. Soon, they were standing outside the ship, waiting for Emil to finish adjusting the settings so they could travel back to the correct time period. The controls were located in a secret compartment near the button. Emil came out of the ship and signaled it was time to go. As JJ started to step on the ship, Viktor suddenly called out, “Wait.” JJ and everyone else turned to look at him, “I don’t want to go yet.”
The expression on everyone’s face was that of bewilderment. “Why not?” Isabella asked.
“As cheesy as it may sound, I think I finally found a home when I’ve never had one before. I don’t want to leave any of you behind yet…” was Viktor’s reply.
“But you can just travel back in time and meet us again,” Isabella pointed out, “And not risk dying here at the end of time.”
Viktor wasn’t swayed, “It won’t be the same. You won’t know us. The scenery around us is also stunning, and besides, we won’t get the chance to actually see the end of all time if we don’t stay.”
“Well if you stay longer, that will make it all the harder to leave,” Yuuri interjected kindly, “But if you really want to stay, we’ll just have to make sure you have enough time to get out.”
JJ spoke up, “Honestly, I wouldn’t mind staying here until the last few seconds…as long as we don’t die that is.”
“Are we staying then?” Emil piped up from inside the ship.
Isabella let out a sigh, then relented. “Fine. I hope we’re making the right decision, because otherwise this entire timeline will be changed.”
Viktor grinned, then pulled everyone into a giant group hug. “Even though we haven’t been here all that long, I love you all.” Emil and JJ were quick to hop off the ship and join the hug. Their combined weight pushed everyone to the ground where they all landed in a big, heaping mess. Surrounded by warmth, love, friends, and adventure, there really wasn’t anything else he needed, right?
Except maybe Yuuri’s ass.
Chapter 10
As the days passed, Viktor took many pictures to keep fond memories. Even so, the days still passed too quickly for his liking. All too soon, it was the last day of the universe.
Viktor awoke again to the smell of a delicious breakfast. A sense of déjà vu washed over him as he walked into the kitchen. The starchildren had almost completely faded, and their feet were sparkling, sparkling into nothingness. This signaled the final stage of disintegration. The ground was shaking, something that had never happened before. Explosions outside of the planet’s atmosphere rocked the world, a brilliant spectacle to behold as dying stars gave their last breath. Viktor picked up Minami and cuddled the chicken one last time. Emil seemed to be hugging the life out of Sara and Michele, and JJ seemed to be taking his time parting from Isabella.
“You must go now,” Yuuri ushered Viktor to the door, “You can’t do anything for us, nor can you stay any longer.”
“I know, but…” Viktor put Minami down, and wrapped his arms around Yuuri, “I’ll never forget you.”
“Viktor, there isn’t much time left,” Yuuri whispered, “Leave now, please…” Viktor buried his face in Yuuri’s shoulder. “No tale is more compelling than one that never ends. If you end here, that’s it. You’ll see me in the past, but please continue doing what you love to do.”
“I would love to do you,” Viktor muttered.
“Sorry, I didn’t hear that.”
“Anyways, can’t you come with us? I don’t want to have to leave you here…”
“No, because I’m literally everywhere in the past. That would screw with the timeline way too much.” Yuuri seemed incredibly calm.
“I’ll continue on then. Goodbye, Yuuri.” Yuuri was just a floating torso now, and golden flecks of stardust poured from his body like a spilt sandbag as the rumbles around them grew ever louder. A cry of anguish was heard as JJ’s arms were covered in stardust. Isabella was nearly gone. Viktor felt tears pricking the corners of his eyes. He collected himself and grabbed JJ and Emil by the arms. There wasn’t any time to lose.
“GOODBYE!” Michele and Sara cried after them. In the shadows of the trees, a faint glimmer could be seen as a certain incubus was no more. All luggage had been taken into the ship the day before. There wasn’t anything else they needed to do except press the button. The world was shaking even more, throwing them into momentary panic as they tripped over each other. Finally, JJ was able to slap that button. For a moment, nothing happened. Then, they were thrown into a swirling space-time vortex as the planet around them exploded. Saishu Mokutekichi was no more. A second later, the universe would compress and collapse, but our heroes weren’t around to see that.
Intense, blinding rays of color whirled around the ship. Viktor slumped against the floor, and JJ face-planted on one of the beds. Then, they were barreling through an atmosphere before crash landing into a backyard. Luckily, the ship wasn’t damaged.
A tired looking Seung Gil spat out coffee and grabbed a laser gun. When Viktor, JJ and Emil poked their heads out of the door, Seung Gil let out a string of curses.
“GODDAMMIT! PLEASE GET OUT OF MY BACKYARD! I DON’T WANT THE GOVERNMENT HERE!” Seung Gil looked very panicked, “WHY ARE YOU SHOWING UP IN MY BACKYARD AFTER DISAPPEARING OFF THE FACE OF THE UNIVERSE FOR TWO YEARS? ACTUALLY DON’T ANSWER THAT, JUST PLEASE GET OUT OF MY BACKYARD!”
Viktor slid back to the control panel and started up the ship again. “Oops. I guess the time wasn’t completely accurate.” Somewhere in his backyard on the surface of Glavnaya, Seung Gil breathed a sigh of relief.
Epilogue
Two years after Viktor, JJ, and Emil had left Saishu Mokutekichi, Viktor pensively sat on his bed. “I wonder where everyone is,” he suddenly said. Colors whirled around the ship.
“Hang on Viktor… we’re almost there,” JJ mumbled from the control panel.
Soon, they landed on a small planet. Stardust shimmered in the atmosphere. A recent explosion had happened around there, so there were many small planets. Nearby stars looked younger than Viktor had ever seen during any of his adventures, and most of the planets had extreme climate and weather. Everything was closer together than usual as well. The ground was familiar with fresh, budding sprouts springing up. A small swirl of rainbow gas blew past their heads. A young boy playing with a little chick was running around as a small girl watched. Both had black hair. A smile broke out on Viktor’s face as he stepped out of the Victory.
“Yuuri!”

Yuuris Birthday Surprise
Yuuri awoke to an empty bed, he reached his arm out to get his glasses so he could check his phone. Yuuri sat up and unlocked his phone, he had thousands of notifications from all his social media of fans wishing him a happy birthday, as well as texts from friends and family doing the same. He thanked everyone so far who wished him a happy birthday, by the time he was done he was fully awake and was about to get out of bed to find Victor when Victor walked into the room carrying a tray closely followed by Makkachin. “Happy birthday, darling” Victor smiled kissing Yuuri on the head. Victor handed Yuuri the tray so he could climb back into bed. “Thank you, Vitya” Yuuri replied he leaned on Victor as they ate breakfast in bed. They ate in content silence Victor knows that Yuuri needs some text to wake up properly. When they finished eating Victor put the empty plates and cups on the tray and put the tray to the side, Yuuri then settled in Victors arm resting his head on Victors shoulder. Victor broke the silence. “ Is there anything you want to do today?” Victor asked running his fingers through Yuuris hair. “I'm surprised that you haven't planned anything.” Yuuri responded. “I know how you don't like it when everyone makes a big fuss over you so I thought that you would like to decide on what we do today. But if you like I can plan something.” Victor smiled. “Thank you for understanding me so well. Let me think about it.” Yuuri replied kissing Victor gently. “Okay...oh I almost forgot let me go get your card and present while you have a think.” Victor said kissing Yuuri again before climbing out of bed. “Actually I'm going to have a shower and get dressed.” Yuuri responded climbing out of his side of the bed heading to the bathroom. Victor was sitting on the sofa with Makkachin, waiting for Yuuri. Victor got dressed not long after Yuuri got into the shower. “Do you think he will like his surprise Makka? I hope that it isn’t too soon for him.” Victor said to Makkachin, the poodle barked as if to reassure Victor. Yuuri came into the living room a few minutes later fully dressed and sat down next to Victor. Makkachin climbed over Victor to sit on Yuuri, Yuuri happily petted Makkachin laughing when the dog licked his face. “haha, thank you Makka...what's this around your neck?” Yuuri curiously undid the loose ribbon tied around Makkachins neck, in the corner of his eye he could see Victor smiling brightly. Attached to the ribbon was an envelope inside the envelope was two tickets to visit Japan for two weeks as well as confirmation that two dogs are booked to fly as well, the flight was dated for next Monday. Yuuri stared at the tickets for a few moments he couldn't believe it with how busy he has been he hasn't been home for nearly a year. Yuuri felt the tears in his eyes and hugged Makkachin close he knew that obviously Victor had organised it all but, it was a gift from Makkachin and knew that’s what Victor would say if he tried to thank him. “Thank you, Makkachin it means a lot to me I can’t wait.” Yuuri said the last part while looking at Victor knowing that he would get the hidden message of ‘thank you for doing this for me and knowing how homesick I get, I love you.’ Then Yuuri realised something. “Why does it say ‘two dogs to fly’? We only have Makka.” Yuuri said confused. “Oh really, they must have misprinted I call the airline tomorrow to clear everything up.” Victor smile. “Here open my present now!” Victor exclaimed changing the subject, handing Yuuri a big box. Yuuri opened the box to reveal a pair of brand new top quality ice skates with silver blades with the Japanese flag on just like Victors gold one with the Russian flag. Yuuri looked up at Victor shocked. “Victor you really didn’t have to I know I said that I loved your skates, but I know how expensive your skates were.” “Don’t you like them?” Victor asked a little downhearted. “No I love them but you didn’t have to spend so much money on me.” Yuuri responded trying to reassure Victor. “You’re worth every penny” Victor replied leaning over to drop a kiss on Yuuris cheek. “Thank you Victor, I love them and I love you.” Yuuri kissed Victor as a thank you, but it turned into a make out session. When they finally broke apart Yuuri pulled the skates out of the box to give them a closer look. “ I noticed the you had your current pair of skates for a while, and they we’re due a sharpening so to save you the money I wanted to get you something I know you needed and would use everyday. I also remembered you saying that if you ever had a pair of skates like mine you would go for silver blades instead of gold.” Victor beamed. “Thank you I really do love them.” Yuuri kissed Victor on the cheek. “No problem, I love you too. So what do you want to do today?” Victor asked pulling Yuuri close to his side. “I was thinking maybe go into town for a little bit get some things we might need before we go to Japan, then have lunch at a nice quiet cafe, then take Makkachin for a walk and come home for a nice dinner.” Yuuri smiled. “That's what we always do on our days off though.” Victor said. “I know but I don’t want anything major just a nice quiet day. Is that okay?” Yuuri asked looking up at Victor. “Yeah we will do whatever you want.” Victor smiled. So Victor and Yuuri did everything that Yuuri wanted all that was left was dinner, they were walking home with Makkachin hand in hand when Victor spoke up. “I should probably tell you that I have two more surprises for you” Victor said as bit sheepishly. “What are they?” Yuuri asked “I can’t tell you that or it won't be a surprise.” Victor smiled. They reached their front door and Victor let Yuuri go in first, and as soon as the lights came on a handful of people jumped out and yelled ‘Happy Birthday’. Yuuri looked at the people in room surprise written all over his face. There was, Yuri, Mila, and Georgi obviously because they didn't live too far from Victor and Yuuri. But the people there that surprised him were Otabek (Yuri must have asked him to come), Chris and Phichit. Yuuri couldn’t believe it. “Am I dreaming?” Yuuri asked Victor. “Haha no Yuuri it's a surprise dinner for you. Me, Chris and Otabek got a few days off and we are going to the airport the same time and day as when you and Victor go to Japan.” Phichit smiled pulling Yuuri into a friendly hug. When the shock of it all wore off Yuuri greeted everyone and they all sat down to eat dinner (they ended up ordering food because of the number of people there). Once everyone finished eating they did gifts: Phichit got Yuuri a selfi stick saying that everyone needed one but then proceeded to give Yuuri a photo album full of photos from when they were in Detroit together Yuuri turned red when he noticed there were a few of Yuuri with his Victor shrine where he then closed the book he thanked Phichit for the gifts and moved on to gift from Chris. Chris got Yuuri an ‘easy to assemble’ home pole dancing pole with some scandalous underwear with a note saying ‘For when you want to teas Victor. Or when you get bored whichever comes first xx’ Yuuri turned a darker shade of red, while Victor mouthed a thank you to Chris. Mila got Yuuri a photo album full of photos she took of Victor while he was training at various ages they went from when Victor had started to grow his hair, when he had his really long hair to when he cut it and just before he left for Japan. Yuuri didn't show how much he was fan-boying on the inside and politely thank Mila for the gift. Georgi got Yuuri vouchers for a make-up store in town and said that he can help Yuuri pick some make-up to go with his next skate sequence. Otabek got Yuuri a selection of traditional Kazakhstan sweets, and Yuri got him some katsudon Pirozhki his grandfather made, a pair of cat socks with a scarf that has a cat face on each end. They all spent time playing games and having fun for a few hours until it got late and everyone either went home or back to their hotel room arranging to spend so time together tomorrow. Yuuri was getting ready for bed when he heard Victor. “Close your eyes it's time for your second surprise.” Victor called Yuuri shut his eyes and yelled back. “Okay there closed.” Yuuri heard movement right by his feet and slowly opened his eyes. He looked down and saw a small black poodle puppy sniffing his feet, Yuuri couldn't believe it Yuuri didn't hear Victor enter the room but he leaned into him when he felt Victors arms wrap around his waist. “Are you okay?” Victor asked when Yuuri didn't say anything. Yuuri nodded. “ She hasn't got a name yet, and I know you still feel guilty about Vicchan but I want to prove to you that you are a brilliant owner and she will never be alone because when we compete she will be with Makkachin.” Victor said Yuuri just nodded in understanding. The puppy snapped Yuuri out of his daze by barking, Yuuri picked up the puppy and held her close. “I'm going to name her Yua it means ‘binding love’.” Yuuri said with tears in his eyes as he held Yua close. “That's a wonderful name” Victor exclaimed pulling Yuuri, who still had the puppy in his arms, into a hug. Makkachin walked into the room and Yuuri put the puppy down so Makkachin could sniff her, the two poodles started to play Makkachin being gentle as to not hurt the small dog. “I got Yua a few days ago she's been with Mila so when I take Makkachin out I introduced the two of them so they would get on when I gave her to you. Everyone has just been calling her puppy because she didn't have a name but I don't think it'll take long for her to get use to her new name.” Victor smiled. Yuuri pulled Victor into a deep kiss which resulted in the two of them lying in bed naked and panting. “ I love you, Vitya.” Yuuri said cuddling closer to Victor. “I love you too.” Victor pecked Yuuri on the lips before climbing out of bed and threw on a dressing gown. “I'm just going to check on the dogs and then I'll be back.” Yuuri nodded in response. A few minutes later Victor returned the two dogs following him Makkachin jumped on the bed and Victor helped Yua up then climbed back into bed. The dogs curled up together while Victor and Yuuri wrapped themselves up in each other, they all peacefully fell asleep. Yuuri couldn't wait to show Vicchan Yua when he went to Japan it will be hard to beat this birthday but he knew if anyone could do it, it was Victor. He felt extremely lucky.

Concept #72
Villain takes people hostage and tells Hero to meet their demands or else they’ll kill one every hour. The problem? Hero is asleep and has no idea this is happening.
Bonus points if they’re sleeping due to illness or injury or just plain exhaustion
@morallygreyprompts thank you <3
Victor wasn’t sure what it was about the holiday season in Spring Gate, but it was like whatever crazy dust the villains were snorting on a daily basis had suddenly and completely run out, thus driving them all insane.
Victor wasn’t sure what it was about the holiday season in Spring Gate, but it was like whatever crazy dust the villains were snorting on a daily basis had suddenly and completely run out, thus driving them all insane.
It was Christmas Eve, the day before his birthday, and he was running around town, chasing villains. Not that he minded. Snapping cuffs on villains kept his mind off of things. The move to Spring Gate. His new job as a hero. The fact that he was the only hero in America who wasn’t retired… It was all so nerve-racking, but the media couldn’t stop singing his praise.
Which only made him more nervous, because what if he screwed up? The thought constantly nagged him, even as he snapped yet another pair of nano-cuffs onto a new thief, Fanfare. The police stuffed him away into the back of a van then crowded around Victor.
“You changed your suit again!”
“Is it true you’re only twenty-two? You’re so young to be this good!”
“Where did you train?”
“Did you go to The Grand Prix Academy? My sister and I went there, so maybe we know you!”
“I heard a rumor you were a police officer!”
“That doesn’t make sense, he’s only nineteen…”
“Twenty-two!”
“No, The Weekly Cape confirmed he was twenty-three…”
“That rag?! You actually get your information from the Cape?”
“Officers,” Victor held his hands up as a kind of flimsy fence. He felt overwhelmed. “Uh, thank you so much for your service. I think I should get going now.”
“Already?!”
“Uh, well, I think something might be happening on the south side…” he fibbed, feeling attacked, and static crinkled in his ear. Saved by the Boss. He held up an apologetic finger and turned away to answer Yakov on his comm link.
“Winter. Status report,” Yakov barked.
“Fanfare has been apprehended and is in transit. Lovemary, Captain Ahab, and Juice have also been apprehended and should be touching down at Ares Island within the hour.”
“Good work. It’s almost three so you shouldn’t have too much to worry about now. Do your rounds, report back in, then you’re done.”
“Copy that,” he said and Yakov clicked out as he turned back to the officers. “Duty calls,” he said weakly as he backed away and he felt guilty when he saw their crestfallen faces. Talking to the public, even if it was just officers was still so…hard even though he’d been doing this for two years now. He jogged up a block, the wintry air barely making him shiver, and thought about how he could’ve handled that differently. Should he have made a joke? Or given them gifts? That was ridiculous. Yakov never gave civilians gifts just because… Just the idea was absurd. He tried to imagine himself carrying around a large sack of wrapped presents like a flaming fuchsia Santa, just to have handy in case anyone asked him a question he was too nervous to answer.
At least he only had his rounds left. Taking a few leisurely laps around the city would help him to relax. He was so mentally spent. Usually, he took down about one or two four-star villains a week. Today, he’d taken down six. By himself. Was it weird to think that hero work was lonely? He couldn’t talk to his best friend after all, not after last month when he officially debuted as an international jewel thief. Why, Chris? Victor could’ve helped him… He wished Chris had talked to Victor… told him something, anything.
And what would he have told you, stupid?
What could someone like Chris tell his best friend, a hero, if he were moonlighting as a cat burglar? I’ve got sticky fingers and I need your help? Victor found himself not caring at all that Chris was a criminal, because he just wanted his friend back. He wanted to bitch and moan about how he couldn’t find the right costume even though Billy was a great if not eccentric designer. About how Yakov and Lilia were officially split up. About all the criminals in Spring Gate. About Celestino’s new hair. About how he hadn’t seen Yuri in a few weeks now. About how he was thinking of cutting his own hair and what style Chris thought would be good for him… There was so much to tell his friend and he had no idea how to even contact him.
He almost bumped into a staggering pedestrian, definitely drunk, and Victor grabbed the man’s shoulders to steady him. The man slurred Victor’s hero name adoringly as he fell against Victor’s chest.
“You all right, buddy?” Victor asked awkwardly, trying hard not to think about vomit.
“You’re the nicest man in the world,” the man blubbered into Victor’s shoulder. He was putting all his weight on Victor and he reeked of something cheap and strong. “Sooo kind…”
“I’m going to call you a taxi, ok?” And to Victor’s horror, the man burst into tears. He tried to get a better look at the man’s face around his wild bushy hair. “Uh, are you ok?!”
“Yes!”
“W-why are you crying then?”
“Because you’re so fucking nice! And you smell so nice too!”
“Ah, right then,” Victor, with some effort because the man really was leaning his entire body on him, pulled his cell out of his pocket and dialed a taxi service. After making the call, he gently tried to coax the man into an upright position but he groaned and convulsed.
Victor stepped back just in time as the man was violently sick on the sidewalk. Chris, help me. He tried not to gag. He just needed to breathe through his mouth. He gently took the man’s hand to pull him away from the puddle he’d made.
“I think you should sit down,” Victor said and eased him down on to the asphalt. He held his hand out and procured a cup made of ice and filled it to the brim with water. He handed this to the man who giggled.
“Bottom’s up,” he mumbled and downed it all as if it were a shot. He gave the empty container an affronted look as if it had lied to him and he threw the ice into the street.
“Better…?”
He closed his eyes. Rested his head against the building behind him. “It’s finally quiet,” he sighed.
A few minutes later, the taxi pulled up, and Victor was afraid the man was in no position to tell the driver where he lived. His suspicions were confirmed when Victor asked only to be answered by a fit of hysterical giggles. Victor searched the man’s pockets and didn’t find a wallet or even a set of keys. He scratched his head and turned to the driver.
“Can you take him to this address?” He asked as he handed over a business card for History Maker. The headquarters weren’t official yet as it was just a small office downtown. Lilia wanted to move to a bigger space. Yakov saw no reason to and Victor agreed since he was the only hero there. In any case, Yakov would be there, and maybe the man could sleep on the couch in the waiting room until morning. He paid the taxi driver who looked put upon, gently hoisted the man into the back seat, and continued his rounds. He checked his phone.
2:50. He guessed he earned a break. He slipped into an alley to deactivate his suit and power down. He walked a block to a seven eleven to buy cheetos and an iced coffee and ignored the weird look he got from the cashier. He strolled down the dark street, thinking about how the drunk man was right–it really was quiet now– and finally found a place to sit and eat on a bus stop bench. He sighed as he sat down and a wave of exhaustion hit him.
He hadn’t realized just how fatigued he was until he sat down. His muscles felt heavy in his arms as he lifted his coffee to his lips. It was good coffee, he thought. He blinked and when he opened his eyes again, he realized he was still holding the cup to his lips. Had he taken another sip? The cup slipped in his hands and he jumped, frightened at the sudden movement. Catching it just in time, he set it down on the bench next to him. He’d drink it later… he pulled at the bag of cheetos.
Why was it difficult to open? Stupid chips. He just needed to take his time. Then they’d open for sure.

“We interrupt this broadcast to bring you breaking news from downtown Spring Gate where a hostage situation has broken out at a McDonald’s on sixth. We have Hisashi Morooka on the scene now. Morooka, what can you tell us?”
“Well, as you can see, West, the restaurant has been surrounded by police cars and authorities are at a stand still as the hostage taker has made demands that have not yet been made public…”
“Why do you think that is?”
“Your guess is as good as mine, West, but it seems that the hostage taker is a super power so our officers are exercising caution. I think we’re looking at a fire type, and I have just gotten word that there are roughly eleven hostages.”
“Any word from our heroes, Morooka?”
“Not yet. As you know, Winter Torch has had quite the Christmas Eve, cleaning up Spring Gate since early yesterday– ah, and it seems like our hostage-taker is coming out! He’s got a woman in his arms, West and–”
“WINTER! TORCH! WINTER! TORCH! COME HERE! NOOOOOOW!”

Really sloppy Yuri Drugs AU
YOI Yuri spiral AU
Section 1 outline
Otabek and Yuri become the best biffles that have ever friended, and start a crazy life of shenanigans.
Otabek introduces Yuri to his friends, and the partying that comes with those friends. Lines of coke and alcoholism becomes a trend whenever they hang out.
Yuri turns 16, and Otabek and his bros throw him a raging party in some of the seedier parts of Moscow, Yuri’s hometown. A prostitute may, or may not be involved, but either way, Yuri loses his V-card in a blaze of glory, and LSD.
Viktor retires at the end of the official skating season, competing in Russian Nationals and Europeans. He, unsurprisingly, sweeps the competition, but ends up taking a hard fall in World’s, and loses out to Yuri for Gold. He’s quite pleased to make Silver though, and ends his career on a high note; bracketed by both his Yu/uri boys. One is his future, the other is the future of Russia.
Viktor continues to coach Yuuri in Russia, and Yuri spends the off-season barely home enough to train. Most of the spring/summer is spent with Otabek. The boys have all sorts of fun, of various types, and then Otabek gets back to the grind and starts to prep for the new skate season.
Yuri doesn’t ‘get back on the wagon’ as well as his bro does, and now with one less supplier, and other various groupies/friends out of his reach more often than not, he turns to other methods to get that same sort of invincible high.
Viktor takes pretty strong pain meds for the knee injury he took the last season, but he’s weening himself off of them. He doesn’t notice that more than he takes goes missing.
Neither does Yakov notice how often Yuri isn’t in the rink dorms. Mila is much more focused on a new boyfriend, but she still makes time in her life to help Yuri get to places. She doesn’t make enough time, though, to realise that Yuri doesn’t stay in those places.
Section 2 outline?
The new season starts, and Yuri is taller, and not quite as even as he remembers being. He wrecks the GPF. 4th place, not even podium. He’s devastated. Yakov is disappointed. Yuuri tries to be supportive, but Yuri wants none of it.
Mila’s now ex-boyfriend is another hockey player (She has a type), and Yuri is pretty willing to do things most wouldn’t, in order to get something to help him bulk his body up, quickly, and finish his growth.
He’s not fond of sucking dick, but he’ll do it on the regular if he gets a steady supply of steroids out of it.
Yuri kills it in Russian Nationals, and goes on to get Silver in Europeans, losing out to Chris just barely. It’s still not enough.
Yuri starts to be hyper aware of his failure. He punishes himself with strict eating regimens, copious amounts of drugs, and not saying no when various rinkmates/friends/friends-of-friends/and sometimes even strangers, press him for sexual favours for the things he wants.
He doesn’t think he deserves better, anyways.
He finishes out World’s behind Yuuri. Even worse, behind JJ.
Otabek scraped into fourth this season, for World’s. Better than last, and he’s more than excited to celebrate with recently turned 17 Yuri.
Another off-season of bro-fun commences. Otabek doesn’t notice how self-destructive Yuri has become, he just thinks maybe his younger friend is on a bit of a binge with the sex and drugs. Maybe he doesn’t have many people he likes in Russia? Maybe he only feels comfortable being himself around Otabek? Beka doesn’t think too heavily into it.
Section 3 outline
The next year continues in a similar vein. Yuri gets progressively worse. He’s more anti-social than normal, and if anyone brings up his shitty appearance, he rages on them like a tiger, so they drop it.
He fails to cut before a drug test, and gets caught for doping just before World’s.
The media goes wild.
Yuuri is infuriated, but also deeply concerned. Viktor doesn’t know what to do; he was sort of the golden son, and never got to do things like rage all weekend.
Yuuri packs Yuri and Viktor up, and heads home to Japan. Away from all the shitty people that have been abusing the soon to be 18-year old’s lack of self-love.
Otabek gives Yuri a call, asks him how it got so bad. Wonders if he is a shitty friend. Yuri tries to assure him that it’s all his own fault.
Beka feels worse. He also resigns from World’s. Decides he needs some rehab for his own substance use. Checks himself into a facility.
Media has another raging storm over it. Two young skaters, friends from various news stories, both dealing with drug/alcohol problems?? Scandal.
Yuuri and Viktor have to go to World’s as competitor and coach, but Yuuri asks a favour of countryman Minami Kenjirou, and the young skater comes to Yuuri’s family’s home to watch the younger boy.
Yuri spends his 18th birthday with tremors, and vomiting, as he comes off the drugs with serious withdrawals. Kenjirou stays up with him during the nights, strokes his back as he sicks up, and washes and combs his hair when he’s too weak with shakes to even crawl out of bed.
Kenjirou talks about being a second son, and coming from a family that values intelligence over athleticism. That his parents are still hoping the 19-year-old will give up the skating, and go to college to become a doctor. He talks about how much he regrets spending so much of his childhood trying to make his parents proud, when he could have been making himself happy. That he picked up figure skating ‘too late’, and he’s worried he’ll never be as high level a competitor as Yuri and Yuuri are. That even though he’s competed and won in Nationals, and made it to podium even, for 4CCs, that he’ll never make it to Olympics.
Yuri tells him he’s stupid. Everyone knows that Minami Kenjirou is the rapidly rising star of Japan; a sun going supernova as he blasts everyone’s expectations of him. Yuri assures him that he’ll be in the GPF far before Yuuri had gotten in. That if the dyed blond isn’t in this upcoming season, it will be for sure the next one. That the Japanese would be idiots if they don’t key a spot for Kenjirou in the upcoming Olympics.
His voice catches; he’s almost assured to not make it for the Russian team, what with this doping scandal. His dreams are crushed, and he goes into a deep depression.
Kenjirou watches, not sure how to draw the younger skater out of the pit. By the time Yuuri and Viktor come back, 6 days after they left, Kenjirou and Yuri both are quieter boys.
Section 4 for sure starts here
Competing for Olympics does come up. Yuri is not to compete for placement. Russia doesn’t want him the way he is, currently.
Yakov tells him if he can clean up his act, he can get back into skating the next season. It won’t be an Olympic showcase, but he’s young yet. He can wait 4 more years for the next go.
Kenjirou does make it into the Grand Prix series. This is excellent, since it’s an Olympic season. Yuri is both smug, and a little sad, as he watches Kenjirou skate from Japan, on the same floor Kenjirou had watched Yuri skate, two seasons prior.
Yuri wishes he’d have been able to be there, to skate against the Japanese Youth.
Kenjirou sweeps the podium. He makes Gold for his first Grand Prix, and even better, he beats out the front runner, JJ Leroy, by more than 3 points. Yuuri trails behind at Bronze, and he knows that next year, if Yuri comes back, he’s almost guaranteed to not make podium again. Otabek, released from rehab with just barely enough time to spare, nips his heels with less than a point, in fourth place, and Michele behind him with only another point to spare. Even Phichit, pushed to sixth place again for the third year in a row, is so close to over-taking Michele for fifth, that some of his fans are calling a foul on the judges for his deductions.
Yuri spends time with Yuuko and Yuuri’s families. Learns that the people hardest on themselves probably deserve it the least.
The Japanese families adopt the lanky blond as their pseudo baby, and go to the effort to remind him that he doesn’t have to get better right away, that he can take his time, and that nobody expects anything from him.
It’s a hard lesson to swallow for a boy that has always carried the weight of his family on his back. To know that he doesn’t have to, and that he can choose to carry as little or as much of it as he wants.
Moar later? Watching Olympics? Otabek is a total straight edge meow? I dunno’. Flesh out top part, first. Jfc.
Feel free to run away with this idea, if you guys want. I love angsty shit like this.

If We Ever Meet Again (Chap. 2)
Tumblr media
Poster is mine
OC x Taemin / Kai pairing 2.356 words by Serena
Summary: The promise to her childhood friend Lee Taemin made Soojin choose the life of an idol. Only so she could meet him again. Had she known how things would turn out in the end, would she have proceeded to become an idol? Possibly. Because, for some reason, she found herself doing everything for him. Because with that odd feeling in Soojin's stomach, who was she to say no to his request?  Little did she know he was doing everything for her and more just as well. Even things that best friends usually don't do. Because with that odd feeling in Taemin's stomach, who was he to say no to her request?  And of course, if she hadn't become an idol, she wouldn't have met Kai.
 October 22nd, 2011
When Taemin kissed his best friend for a third time, it was to him like fire and blood. And he had yet to make himself believe:
“Do we need milk?”, Soojin asked her mother, strolling through the supermarket just behind her. “Yes, dear”, her mother replied, pushing the cart forward. “Be so kind and get us some.” “Of course”, she said. She turned around to walk to the right shelve when her mother called after her. “Please hurry, though. We still have to go to Lowe’s. We need more cartons and tape for you!” “Alright”, she sung and went to get the milk.
It was only ten minutes later that they were done with the groceries. Her mother unlocked the car while Soojin carried the full paper bag. She couldn’t recall when they’ve ever left the supermarket after only fifteen minutes.
“Why exactly did we buy so many things? We never dothat at once.” “Because we’re having company today”, her mother replied. Soojin placed the bag in the trunk and got in the car just before her mother started the engine. “Oh! Who’s coming?” “Friends.” “Friends…”, she repeated. “Whose friends?” “Just friends”, she said firmly. “Okay then. Be mysterious about it if you must.”
On their way home Soojin’s mother spoke no word, which was very unusual for her talkative parent. Soojin shrugged it off eventually. Arriving in the suburban Soojin helped her mother unpack the groceries. “I thought we were going to Lowe’s”, she said. “Yes, well”, her mother said, “another time.”
Soojin stopped in her tracks. “But you said so at the supermarket.” “I know what I said, sweetheart.” This time, Soojin couldn’t just shrug it off. “What’s going on?” She scrunched her forehead in a mere of seconds. Something wasn’t right.
Her mother, though, sighed out in relief when the doorbell rang. She turned around to Soojin, having just tried to prevent looking at her, and smiled widely. “I’ll get the door”, she exclaimed hurriedly.
Soojin continued unpacking. But it wasn’t for long as her mother had returned rather quickly. “Soojin, sweetheart”, she said. “Our company arrived.” Being the polite daughter she was, she immediately turned around, about to greet her mother’s friends who held her hand to gesture to the three very young men standing right next to her.
But it weren’t her mother’s axquaintances who smiled at Soojin and it wasn’t her mother’s friends standing just there: in the middle of their kitchen. Their home. Across the sea.
Soojin’s stomach turned and made a flip like one hundred jumping sheep were hopping inside other.
He was taller than he used to. His hair was blond and his body manlier. Yet he was as young and handsome as ever. Except, before this very second, she had never thought of him of being handsome.
Lee Taemin looked at Soojin with a crooked smile from underneath his fringe. “Don’t you want to say hello to him?”, her mother chuckled.  But Soojin remained frozen in place. It had been five years. Five years and all of sudden he stood there, right in the middle of her kitchen. Across the sea.
It was only when she felt hot tears on her cheeks that she noticed she had held her breath. She let out a harsh sob, ran towards him and slung her arms around his neck. She had never loved to feel the warmth of his body as much as right now. Taemin engulfed her in a tight hug, as tight as he could possibly manage to grasp onto her without breaking her to pieces.
October 22nd, 2011
When Taemin kissed his best friend for a third time, it was to him like a precious gift. And they so happened to share more than a touch of lips:
The same three young man were seated on the table, along with Soojin. She hadn’t taken off her eyes of Taemin for the past five minutes. “I don’t think my brain understands that you’re here”, Soojin said. Jonghyun, one of the two accompanying Taemin, chuckled loudly while the third one, Kibum, tsked at her. “Now I understand why Mom bought so much food.” Soojin nodded at the feast her mother has prepared. “It tasts good by the way”, Kibum said.
Soojin nodded thankfully and proceeded talking. “However, I still don’t understand why you’re here. All of you.” “There is a concert of all of our companies artists at Madison Square Garden tonight”, Taemin explained. Soojin nipped at her orange juice. “Is there?”, she asked. “How come I don’t know about it?” “I asked your mother to help keep you oblivious.” Taemin grinned mischievously. His plan had worked.
Then, Soojin asked the question she feared the most. “When will you go back?” Taemin hesitated. “Tomorrow.” Soojin sighed. “I figured it wouldn’t be for long.” Taemin shook his head. “Sadly not. But”, he said, “I do have a present for you.” “A present?”, she asked in disbelieve. The last time he had given her a present – the cake to her twelfth birthday – it turned out to be a disaster. No matter how much his mom had helped him made it.
“Here”, he snickered at her remark, handing her a little band with a card dangling from it. It was a VIP ticket to the SM Town concert in New York.
That same day and hours of trying on outfits later, Soojin showed the staff her pass and was let in, walking through the corridors. She was passing by closed rooms with the signs of Girls’ Generation, Kangta, BoA and f(x) before she found the letters SHINee on a bit of paper taped to the door.
Surprisingly, the door was open. She stepped in not long after and was greeted by a grinning Jonghyun, who quickly came to hug her. “Oh okay, you’re a hugger”, she laughed, although she happily returned that gesture. “Hugger, skinship lover, you name it”, Jonghyun smirked. "Taemin is in the chair in the back”, he announced then, “he’s getting his make-up done.” “Thanks”, she said, waltzing over to said chair.
Once Taemin spotted her coming over, he smiled at her. “You made it!” “Of course I did, silly”, she said. “May I?”, she proceeded to ask a staff member, pointing to the nearest chair. She was nodded at so she sat down. “Okay, you have to introduce me to BoA later. No exceptions.”
“Sooji”, he huffed, “isn’t it enough you get to see me?” “Sooji? You’re still calling me by that nickname?” She shook her head, cackling. “I do prefer Soo, but yes, I am. Diversity is a strong game nowadays.”
Soojin laughed. “You know, one day I’ll have another nickname for you than Taemiri.” “Good”, he said, “I’m not particularly fond of it anyway.” “I am”, Soojin announced. “I like it very much.” “Well then”, he snickered, “proceed to call me that.” “Will do!”
It was only during the concert when Soojin remembered the good news she had all forgotten about telling her best friend after his arrival. Taemin wasn’t to go back on stage for another fourty minutes or so for the last two performances of SHINee on that particular evening so they both sat in SHINee’s dressing room. Quite alone at that, as Jinki was just on stage for a solo, Jonghyun had dragged Kibum to the food where staff members likey where as well and Minho was somewhere with his girlfiend Yuri. If it wasn’t for Taemin, Soojin would have never known about their secret relationship to begin with. But, after all this time, it was a nice feeling to finally know what the insights felt like.
Following her straw of thoughts no more Soojin exclaimed she had a little bit of a secret to tell. Although, it wasn’t exactly a secret. “What is it?”, Taemin asked after her announcement, looking into her smiling face. “Well”, she grinned, “as of a little over two weeks ago, I have been accepted into YG Entertainment at the open auditions. I’ll be moving to Korea on January 3rd!”
She looked at him expectantly. Taemin didn’t fail to give her the response she had hoped for. His mouth was wide agape and his eyes smiled that smile that spoke of love and excitement. “Really?”, he asked, just to make sure. “Yes, silly”, she chuckled.
There was no more to say. Taemin took her in his embrace, hugging her tight, crushing their bodies together in one. She breathed out in surprise, her face squisched to his chest.
Suddenly, he kissed the top of her haid. “You can’t imagine how happy I am!” “Likewise”, she said, trying to break free. “Speaking of moving”, she said, her voice suddenly less excited. Nervousness crept into the tone of her voice instead. “There was something I was going to ask you once I moved back to Seoul.”
Taemin saw the change in her eyes. “Which is?” “Well”, she hesitated. “I was going to ask you for… a favor.” Soojin tried swallowing the lump in her throat. When had it become so difficult to talk all of sudden?
“So, I’ve been thinking about this a lot. So many girls in school say that they regret having their first time with a fuckboy and to be honest I don’t want the same happening to me. Besides, I’m already seventeen. I don’t want it to be with just anyone but with someone I love and trust and there is only one that fits, which is you of course, You’re my best friend so-“ “Are you asking me to take your virginity?”
Soojin had avoided looking at him. She was starring everywhere but his face. When she heard the sharpness in his voice at his question she dared a look at him. He was displeased, that was for sure. “Who else would I ask if not you?” “Your boyfriend!”, he yelled. Soojin was taken aback by how loud he got. “If you ask me, if you’re really asking me to have sex with you, you should love me as your boyfriend.” “Why are you getting mad?” “Are you fucking kidding me? You’re asking me to take your virginity!” “I just…”, Soojin was out of words. “Do you need to fit into this country’s society so bad that you feel the need to ask this?” Soojin’s mouth opened and closed, opened and closed. “You don’t know how they treated me! I was a foreigner for so long until I became like them!” “So what? Why don’t you try being you instead of doing literally everything everyone else does? They aren’t you. And what they do does not show you what you need to do too! It’s not difficult to grasp, is it?”
Soojin pursed her lips. “I understand that you think my question is a bit off but you’re being extremely mean. I’m going to go home. I don’t need to keep hearing how much of a failure I am to you. See you in two months, I guess.”
And with that, she left.
It had been only been three hours since their fight. Soojin had become warrant about if it really was an off-putting question to have asked.  But then again, it wasn’t wrong to want to fit in, was it? But maybe Taemin was right. Maybe she didn’t have to try so hard and go this far for it.
Nevertheless, she wished the conversation would have gone differently. Taemin would fly back tomorrow and she wouldn’t be able to say a single goodbye or hug him one more time. The good thing was that this time, their farewell would have only been for two months but now that he blew her off like that she figured it could take quite a longer time for their friendship to recover. Because at this very moment it seemed just as fragile to her as to him.
What Soojin didn’t know was that Taemin regretted the way things went as equally, thus he had already made his way to her home. If it wasn’t for her living in a country where he wasn’t particularly familiar with any place, he would have been at her doorstep long ago.
Eventually, and lucky for him because the cold had by now made his fingers go numb, he found the red wooden door to her place.
Soojin, who of course didn’t see it coming, was confused as to who rung her doorbell at this late hour. She opened nonetheless. Had she not, Taemin wouldn’t have had slanted his mouth onto hers at an instant, gripping onto the side of her face with his hands like it was the only way of surviving.
Taemin was quick enough to avoid any questions asked. She barely had the time to look angry or confused. His lips where on hers before there was any time to react. He groaned into the kiss, partially because he was still the slightest bit angry, partially because he liked the way she felt against him.
She responded with a gasp, her eyes fluttering shut immediately. Soojin knew, or could predict for that matter, how angry he must have felt and how hard it was for him to contain a happy smile on stage for the last performances. And she wanted to think that it didn’t matter to her because it was his own fault at getting irrationally mad. But now that he was indeed here – for what reasons she had yet to find out – she felt sorry for him.
His tongue prodded at her lips. Soojin wondered where he had learned to kiss that way because it was nothing like on the day at the lake.
“Running away doesn’t solve any problems”, he mouthed against her lips, once he parted from hers. “I-I’m sorry.” “Good. You should be.” Soojin was about to protest, to ask why he was here then, but Taemin was quicker to speak. “You should feel sorry about leaving like that, leaving without watching the concert to its end, without saying goodbye to me, leaving like that just after you ask me this...”
Taemin’s voice was soft. The anger had left and there was nothing Soojin was more glad about at this very second. That was, until she heard the following:
“Where’s your bedroom?”

Tired of feeling never enough.
I’ll forgive you if you don’t read this whole thing. It’s longer than the post from a couple days ago, and kind of... dark, I guess. But I needed to work through some things, so here’s that.
I got into the 2015 Grand Prix Final by a fluke really. I hadn't been expecting to make it but I placed high enough to squeak in. It was my first one. I qualified early on because my events were Skate America and Skate Canada that year.
Practices went okay but having almost two months to linger on it messed with my head in a big way. I focused more on what I couldn't do than what I could, and it got harder and harder to get through to me. Even Phichit got worried, and he never really worried about anything. To cheer me up, he secretly ordered me a pillow with a picture of Victor on it all the way from Japan because I'd seen it in footage from the NHK Trophy, where Victor was competing. His Japanese fans had them, so Phichit knew I'd want one. He gave it to me for my birthday on November 29th, not long before the Final.
We got to the event and there were two sessions for the men's practices, three in each because there's only six total for the Final. I was terrified to look at my schedule. I was group A. Victor was group B. I honestly don't know if I could have skated on the same ice if we'd been in the same group.
I didn't see him until day 1 of practice. I was signing some autographs near the entrance to backstage, and suddenly everyone except my Japanese fans who were still waiting took off. I looked over and Victor was at the other corner on our end of the rink, getting ready to practice. It was the first time I'd seen him in person, because I had never been assigned to a GP event he was in before I made it to this one.
I thought watching him practice would help me, but all I was was that much more intimidated. It was one thing to see him on television, but watching him skate in person after wanting to since I was 12 years old didn't even feel real. I sat about five rows up, so I could see over the boards and watch his skates as they moved. At one point he was running through “Stay Close To Me”, and landed the quad salchow about 15 feet away from where I was sitting.
I was pretty sure I'd never be that good. As much as I wanted to, I didn't stay for any more practices except my own after that. My confidence was already shaky at best, no need to be reminded that I'd never be worthy of being at the Final at all.
~~~
The pressure got to me early on and my short program was a mess. I salvaged my combination, but popped the other two jumps. Coach Celestino had seemed to be giving up on me. Instead of analyzing what was wrong, he kept asking me why I was scared, that I was good enough to be there (even though I was there via sheer luck and some math in the standings). It wasn't helping.
Coach C never allowed us any junk food during competitions. But when I went back to my room that night I bought a bunch of candy and ate it. The sugar was the worst thing right then but at that point I figured it wouldn't matter. I'd always had issues with my weight. I was always on some kind of diet from the rink nutritionist and Coach C always had me doing extra fitness training to keep me under a certain weight. It was the first thing that fell by the wayside when I was stressed out, which was often.
~~~
My phone woke me at 1:00 a.m. It was my mom. My dog, who was 10 years old, had been sick for some time. He'd passed away in his sleep.
I got him when I was twelve. I saw a picture of Victor in a magazine, holding his new puppy Maccachin, an adorable little brown ball of fluff.
My dog was a brown poodle. His name was Victor. I hadn't seen him in three and a half years. I couldn't be there when he was sick. I let him down. And in the end I didn't get to say goodbye because I was a continent away doing something I was pretty sure I hated. So I was pretty sure I got what I deserved.
~~~
My long program was a disaster. I skated first because I was sixth after the short. I landed one jump: a triple toe loop that was supposed to be a quad. All Coach C was worried about was keeping me off the Internet. Later he'd tell me he wanted to hear me say I'd try again. But if he didn't have more faith in me than I did in myself, why would I even bother? He hadn't even watched either of my programs all the way through. After the second fall, he did as usual: Stepped back from the boards, hands folded behind his back, pretending to watch but really not. Because Yuri bombed again.
~~~
I'd gone into the men's room and closed the door on one of the stalls when I saw on my phone that my mom had called after my free skate. I called her and she told me she'd had a viewing party. She said that everyone was really disappointed that I hadn't done better. That broke me. I fell apart and was sobbing in the stall, praying no one came in. I could hear Victor's long program music faintly in the background. I'd wanted to see “Stay Close to Me” live just once, and I was too ashamed to leave the bathroom stall.
Then someone kicked it in and there stood the “Russian Punk”, a 15-year-old jumping bean and the Junior GP Champion that was being called the potential successor to Victor. He made fun of me for crying, told me to retire and that I was a loser. Tell me something I don't know.
His name was Yuri Plisetsky.
~~~
In the lobby after the long program, everyone was gathering to wait for the shuttle bus back to the hotel. The banquet was that night and I had no intention of going; in fact I wanted to leave but we couldn't change our flight reservations and were scheduled to leave late the next night. We'd planned it that way in case by some fluke I took a bronze and got to skate an exhibition. Bronze was all I'd been shooting for. It was a pretty lofty goal, clearly not one I could reach.
I was startled when I heard Victor's voice say my name. I looked to my left and he was walking past with Plisetsky, discussing his free program with him. They went to meet up with their coach and I started talking with someone who was encouraging me not to retire. I was sort of tuning it out, my mind wandering, and I found myself looking at Victor's back. I liked the Russian team jackets and was focusing on that when he turned his head to look at something to his left... and I saw his eyes shift to me behind him. I froze, terrified.
“Oh, you want a picture? Sure thing,” he said. Even in my absolute terror, I noticed something unusual about him: He looked... tired. Sad? I don't know.
Then I realized something. He thought I was a fan, because there were some mingling about getting autographs. I didn't even get noticed as the kid who bombed in sixth place, or the Japanese skater that made it in by sheer luck.
I turned around and left without saying another word, then commenced to agonize over it for the rest of the night. If I wasn't a loser before, I certainly was now, not to mention seriously rude. I assumed Plisetsky told him who I was after I walked away and I was sure when he found out who I was, he'd never even try to acknowledge me again... if I ever got another chance. Which, since I was pretty sure I wanted out, was probably going to be never.
~~~
Coach C wanted to go to the banquet. His job was done and he wanted to hang out with everyone. Why I was forced to go with him, I don't know. I didn't even feel like I was fit to be in the same room as these far better competitors, skaters I'd heard about and watched for years. Once Coach C disappeared after dinner I was on my own. I knew a couple of people personally but no one big.
I saw Victor, from behind, in a suit this time like we all were, talking with Christophe. It was well known that they were best friends, and there had been rumors in the skating forums online that it was more than that, though never confirmed. The fans shipped Victophe hardcore.
That was the first time I realized what my thing for Victor really was: When I suddenly, inexplicably, felt jealous.
I started drinking champagne, hoping it would boost my confidence and maybe I'd try to apologize to him for being rude. I hadn't eaten since the morning because I just really felt like figuratively dying, and being dragged there had just made it worse. I remember nothing after the third glass.
~~~
The next morning I woke up in my hotel bed in just my dress shirt and underwear. I smelled like champagne and felt awful. I had spills all over the shirt, which was ruined. On my left hand was some kind of ink smudge that I didn't remember getting. It looked like it had gotten wet and smeared. I thought it was one of those stamps they put on your hand to note that you're over 21 – I always got carded because I look 12 with my glasses on. Sometimes they'd use a sharpie marker instead and that's what this looked like; I could just make out one thing that looked like it might have been a number but I wasn't sure, and there was no way to tell now.
I had several texts from Coach C, so I called him and told him I was getting cleaned up. I saw as I sat eating breakfast, scrolling through my phone, that Victor had left with his team early that day to go back to St. Petersburg. After all, he had Russian Nationals in three weeks, he couldn't waste time hanging around when he needed to be in top form.
I was relieved I wouldn't run into him again because without alcohol, I knew I'd be a blathering idiot and probably make a fool of myself again... if he'd even give me the time of day.
~~~
I eventually found out a year later, at dinner in Barcelona the night before the GPF short program with many of the same skaters from that weekend, including Victor, what happened at the banquet. I came to find out that one of the things Phichit and I always talked about had actually happened. Over the years, through magazines, TV, online articles etc., it started to come out that Victor wasn't that stereotypical “scary Russian skater” that was all business and would step on you with his blades to win. He was competitive, sure and took it seriously, but he appeared to be a really down to earth, fun guy. We always joked about hanging out with him someday, if we ever got to meet him. So basically, the man of my dreams had blatantly hit on me, danced with me, even took off his suitcoat to play matador and bullfighter with a drunken, severely depressed Japanese skater. I had asked him to be my coach and invited him to visit my family's business at the end of the night.
It explained so much: Why he'd come on so strong when he came to Hasetsu. Why he seemed so familiar with me even though I was under the assumption we'd never actually met except for that one moment in the hotel lobby. At first, I agonized over totally missing out on that chance. But then I thought about who I was then. He was at the top of his game. I was giving up. Maybe we'd have become friends, but no one wants that kind of baggage holding them back when they're on top of the world. I had myself convinced it happened like it was supposed to.
Until today, when I found out that the smudge of ink I washed away in the shower, that had been blotted out probably when I spilled my own drink on it... had been his phone number. I can only assume he wrote it there with the sharpie he was carrying in his pocket – we all carry sharpies, there's fans everywhere at competitions and other places, even banquets if they're lucky – when I asked him to be my coach.
This should not have destroyed me today, but it did.
I left that competition completely lost and broken back then, and it catapulted me back into that mindset of missed opportunities, of being the kid that always fucked up. If only you'd done better. If only you'd stayed even marginally sober. If only, if only, if only.
If only I'd realized that the person who quite literally saved me from myself, had reached out well before I even knew I needed him, and most certainly before he knew I did. I'd been able to reconcile the banquet, figuring it was just that night and gone, and the only thing about not remembering was that I'll never remember what it was like to meet him for the first time and not be terrified. He and I were equals that night, having a blast and him being the person I'd read about him being. When we met again, not so much, at first. But I got to know that person eventually.
I don't even know why I was sent reeling by this today. I don't understand myself at all sometimes. I'm a roller coaster of highs and lows and I swear I can't have one with out the other. Practice was great today. I'd planned to write a very different story over on Twitter about something fun that happened, when he said one thing that just... I don't even know anymore.
Mila found me in the locker room bawling my eyes out and asked what was wrong. I didn't want to talk at first, I told her it was stupid and I didn't even know what my feelings were or why they were hurt. She dragged me off into one of the gym rooms – there weren't a lot of people there today so they were mostly empty – and I told her everything I've written here.
“You haven't put it to rest,” she said. “Everything in our lives connects. You look back and see why you were the person you were before, and you learn from it so you can change it now. But it doesn't mean you don't regret not doing things differently. The hurt comes from knowing you can't. You just have to move forward with what you are doing now. With him. Because even after everything, he still chose you. That's how you know it was meant to be.”
I told her I didn't understand why it even bothered me. I should have been like “are you serious? Really?” and laughed it off. Instead it gutted me and I felt like an idiot. I felt stupid for my reaction and I couldn't even look at him at that moment. The emotion was pretty much the same as that moment in the lobby over a year ago.
“Because you got used to letting everyone down, including yourself. And hearing that it happened again with the most important person in your life just hit you wrong. You're afraid it's going to happen again. You have to remember where you are now. You’re learning how to do things right, you’re growing up even if it’s late. You're with him and that's all that matters,” she said.
And then she decided that I needed to smile, and picked me up and threw me on top of a bunch of cushions in the gym room. Because if you haven't been bench pressed by Mila, you're not really friends. I passed that initiation. In Hasetsu, I had Yuko. I'd like to think that in St. Petersburg, I'll have Mila, if she'll put up with me too.
I'll still probably tell him I'm sorry when I can get myself together enough to look at him again. Because I am, for him having to deal with all of this now, as he has been since this side of me surfaced at Cup of China. I'm hoping I'll move past all of this some day, that feeling that I was never good enough, and always missed out and messed up when it came down to the wire because I didn't do enough or do it right... and the fear that somehow, I'll screw everything up again. But I guess today was not that day.

Bookshelf Briefs 4/30/19
Arpeggio of Blue Steel, Vol. 14 | By Ark Performance | Seven Seas – Last time I wondered if Arpeggio of Blue Steel really was going to become a high school series, and it’s certainly trying its best, with a School Festival arc in the offing. That said, the tone of the series is still very much Tom Clancy, with much of the volume taken up by I-402’s negotiation with retired general Ryokan on behalf of the Fog. Meanwhile, we also get a flashback as to how Gunzou started all this in the first place (Iona basically forced it on him, but it doesn’t take much pushing), and start to see pieces shifting into position for the next big battle. Will that battle take place at the school? It might start there, but my guess is we’ll be back to the Navy before long. Still underrated. – Sean Gaffney
Crocodile Baron, Vol. 3 | By Takuya Okada | Kodansha Comics (digital only) – Crocodile Baron comes to an end without evolving much since volume two. Alfardo and Rabbit Boy run into the former’s bad older brother, who seemingly turns his life around after eating some ramen. Alfardo eats spicy curry with a desperate warthog and possibly saves his marriage. Rabbit Boy hates Christmas because it’s his birthday and buys a cake from a camel. A lovelorn elephant filmmaker finds his muse and eats pond smelts. They have an Okinawan adventure during which Rabbit Boy nearly drowns. Honestly, I cared about no one and found it all boring. If there had been more emphasis on the food, I might’ve felt differently, but this was a big ol’ yawn banquet. – Michelle Smith
High School Prodigies Have It Easy Even in Another World!, Vol. 3 | By Riku Misora and Kotaro Yamada | Yen Press – Again, I beg the authors for a character sheet. There are quite a number of interesting things going on in this volume, but I suspect the reader may have trouble finding them among all the bouncing boobs. The fanservice is laid on with a shovel here, and can be hard to take. That said, there’s a nice scene with Tsukasa and Lyrule where she berates him for feeling guilty over not prioritizing saving her. The bulk of the serious plot goes to Shinobu and Elch, gathering intel at a seemingly friendly village with a very dark secret. Fortunately (assuming that it’s not a double cross), she may also have come across the resistance. Too many boobs spoiling the pie, alas. – Sean Gaffney
How to Treat Magical Beasts, Vol. 3 | By Kaziya | Seven Seas – Lest we try to run on “the sweet and heartwarming adventures of a vet” for too long, this volume introduces a smiling maybe-villain-maybe-not, who helps Ziska with a cat’s injury and then takes her way out into danger to attend to a wounded Greif, because no series with apprentices and magic is quite complete without a test to see if they’ve got the right stuff. I assume Ziska does have the right stuff, but we’re caught up to Japan, so it may be a while till we find out. In more sweet news, that is one adorable gargoyle, and I’m happy it’s found a friend. Seven Seas has carved out a genre niche with these types of series, and I quite enjoy it. – Sean Gaffney
Mob Psycho 100, Vol. 2 | By ONE | Dark Horse – I keep wanting to call this MPD Psycho, but that is something very different. This is the story of an unassuming boy named Shigeo Kageyama who possesses super powers but wants to live without relying on them. This challenges the worldview of another superpowered boy named Teru, who spends two-thirds of the volume flinging his power at Kageyama in order to make him fight back. (Kageyama is resolute that he won’t use his powers against another person.) The anger meter appears again (with a fun gag about how Teru’s exorcism of Mob’s sycophantic spirit companion doesn’t actually change it at all) and only when his life is in true peril does Kageyama reach “???%.” Will he wreak havoc in the next volume? The story’s definitely getting more interesting, but I’m still not in love with the art. – Michelle Smith
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, Vol. 4 | By Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court | Viz Media – This gets better with each volume. I had not realized that the Vigilantes series takes place a few years before the main series (though the authors cheat (and say so) for the extra side story). I had suspected that Knuckleduster was somehow connected with the villains, but that connection turns out to be much closer than imagined, and leads to possibly the best fight of the series. Meanwhile, Pop Step finds her confidence and does something only she can do to help out. All this and one of the most horrific images in the manga to date (which also made me wonder if the authors had seen a certain meme about bees). This has become essential. – Sean Gaffney
My Pink Is Overflowing, Vol. 1 | By Yuki Monou | Kodansha Comics (digital only) – I bought this hoping it would be hilariously trashy, and for the most part it was. The premise has a girl who’s tired of being screwed over by pick-up artists decide she’s only going to date virgins from now on… then find out that her boss, seemingly an overly serious taskmaster, is one! They enter into a relationship so fast it boggles the mind, especially since their first kiss is interrupted by her having an orgasm as she does it. At its heart, this is a “ditzy girl/serious guy” title with a decent heart, but the girl can get very over the top at times, and the series seems to want to go as far as it can while keeping the hero a virgin. Plus there’s that title. For fans of Cosplay Animal. – Sean Gaffney
Teasing Master Takagi-san, Vol. 4 | By Soichiro Yamamoto | Yen Press – It has to be said, a lot of the teasing that’s going on here is Takagi-san being as obvious and blatant as she possibly can that she loves Nishitaka. You’d have to be a brick—or a male protagonist—not to get it, and indeed sometimes it’s so blatant he almost shows sings of figuring it out. But this is a long-running series, and resolution just isn’t in the cards right now. So we get Takagi-san visiting his room, playing poker, chasing cute cats, and getting each other’s emails so that now she can tease him whenever she wants to (and have cute photos of her on his phone). Everyone else in their class knows they’re going out. Most of what they do qualifies as a date. But… so dense. Love this series. – Sean Gaffney
Witch Hat Atelier, Vol. 1 | By Kamome Shirahama | Kodansha Comics – Even before it was licensed in English, Witch Hat Atelier was a series that had caught my attention, in large part due to Shirahama’s gorgeous, sumptuous artwork, but also because my Japanese-reading friends spoke so highly of it. At times, the exposition is a little heavy-handed in the first volume as the premise of the the world’s history and magic are introduced. (I expect this to become less of an issue as the series progresses.) However, the explanations are regularly incorporated in a way that makes sense—Coco, the story’s heroine, is also new to the basics and she’s learning right alongside the readers. Coco is a young woman who has always been fascinated by magic not realizing that she has a natural talent for it. Unfortunately, the initial budding of her magical skills ends in tragedy as she hasn’t had the training needed to fully understand or control them. – Ash Brown
Yowamushi Pedal, Vol. 11 | By Wataru Watanabe | Yen Press – No, the Inter High still hasn’t come to an end, but this is still a pretty satisfying volume, what with all the inspirational performances and teary appreciation of same! Watanabe does a good job getting readers to root for Hakone, too, and we learn why Arakita is so motivated to propel Fukutomi to the finish line, right before he runs out of speed. Yes, it’s a harsh truth that all six members of Sohoku aren’t able to ride together for long. The first-years prepare themselves to make the sacrifice for their teammates, but that isn’t how it turns out at all. I was fully expecting that Kinjou would be the one to win this, given his experience in the previous year’s competition, and was honestly surprised when he’s sidelined by injury. I suppose the next book will wrap things up but I kinda don’t even remember what this series is like when it’s not the Inter High! – Michelle Smith
Yuri Is My Job!, Vol. 2 | By miman | Kodansha Comics – Now that Hime is aware of who Mitsuki was in her past, everything is terribly awkward, and the number of times “she must really hate me” is said in this volume boggles the mind. If you guessed it’s all based on misunderstanding what the other is thinking, give yourself a gold star. For all that Hime tries to be the perfect little sister, it’s only when she’s honest with herself that things really take off in the cafe. I’m hoping that things will improve soon, but there’s also the problem of Kanoko, Hime’s best friend from school whose phone turns out to be entirely devoted to Hime. I dislike the term “yandere,” but I have a sneaking suspicion we’re going to see the tropes that lead to its overuse in the next book. – Sean Gaffney

Christopher Nkunku 8/10 as PSG thrash Metz in Paris
6:54 PM GMT
Jonathan JohnsonESPN
PARIS — Paris Saint-Germain reacted to their Champions League round of 16 exit at the hands of Real Madrid on Tuesday by mauling Metz 5-0 at Parc des Princes in Ligue 1 on Saturday.
Thomas Meunier opened the scoring before a Christopher Nkunku double, a Kylian Mbappe strike and a Thiago Silva header.
Positives
The least PSG could do after their latest capitulation in Europe was respond immediately and that is what they did with a comfortable win over their struggling guests.
Nkunku was one of a few fringe players to be given a chance against the league’s worst team and he seized it with two well-taken first-half goals. The French youth academy graduate could have had a hat-trick but saw a quick-fire third chalked off.
Negatives
It was a convincing performance overall even if Metz were awful, but PSG’s second half was much flatter than their first and they could have scored more if they maintained their rhythm from the first half and if it was not for Eiji Kawashima in the Metz goal.
Manager rating out of 10
6 — Emery got his starting XI right and also managed to give three substitutes a decent chunk of playing time.
Player ratings (1-10; 10 = best. Players introduced after 70 minutes get no rating)
GK Alphonse Areola, 7 — It was not the busiest outing for the homegrown goalkeeper but he still made a number of impressive saves.
DF Thomas Meunier, 7 — Preferred to Dani Alves from the off, he scored early and was consistent for the rest of the match after that.
DF Thiago Silva (c), 6 — Paired in central defence with Presnel Kimpembe, the captain was unflustered and scored a late headed fifth goal from a Giovani Lo Celso corner.
FRANCK FIFE/AFP/Getty Images
DF Presnel Kimpembe, 6 — Deployed alongside Silva given that Marquinhos unavailable through injury, the youth academy graduate was solid albeit unspectacular.
DF Yuri Berchiche, 6 — Layvin Kurzawa was dropped from the squad entirely to face Metz and his replacement did reasonably well in a balanced showing, delivering the cross in the build-up to Meunier’s opener.
MF Lassana Diarra, 5 — Given the nod ahead of Thiago Motta and Lo Celso, the birthday boy (33) was not able to replicate his recent quality. However, he was still solid enough behind Nkunku and Marco Verratti.
MF Marco Verratti, 7 — Eager to bounce back from his red card against Real Madrid, he took an early knock but shook it off to create the first of Nkunku’s two goals.
MF Christopher Nkunku, 8 — Handed a rare chance to impress by Emery, the 20-year-old built on his goal away at Troyes last week with a double against Metz here.
FW Angel Di Maria, 5 — Played from the start again, he picked up where he left off against Real and was disappointing even though he assisted Nkunku’s second goal in accidental fashion.
FW Kylian Mbappe, 6 — It was a largely frustrating outing for the French teenager and although he scored, he was denied by Kawashima on numerous occasions. One such shot was blocked in the build-up to Meunier’s opener.
FW Julian Draxler, 5 — After complaining about Emery’s decision not to use him much against Real Madrid, the Germany international played but wasn’t at his best despite showing plenty of good intent.
Substitutes
MF Giovani Lo Celso, 6 — Sent on in place of Verratti after 64 minutes, he assisted Silva for the only goal of the second half through a corner.
FW Timothy Weah, NR — With 19 minutes left, the U.S. youth international relieved Di Maria and was denied by Kawashima in a one-on-one but also tracked back well to make a useful tackle.
MF Adrien Rabiot, NR — Given the final 19 minutes instead of Draxler, he kept PSG comfortably in control of the midfield battle.
