Red Eye - I rewatched it after Oppenheimer and it really holds up. Fun, tight thriller that is only like an hour 20 lol. Also Brian Cox aka Logan Roy is in it (and Jayma Mays my beloved)

Theater Camp - as a Jewish theater kid who went to and/or worked at a summer camp every year of her life from ages 4-20, there was no way I wasn’t gonna like this

Mamma Mia series - obviously everyone on tumblr knows about these already but I made my family watch them with me for the Fourth of July and god if I could live in the world of any movie it’d be this one ❤️

Man Up - very cute & fun British rom com I first discovered in college and rewatched this summer. Everyone has incredible comedic chemistry in this, and Lake Bell & Simon Pegg have great sexual chemistry as well (quite a lot of British faces who were nobodies when this was made who’ve gone on to bigger things - most notably Phoebe Waller-Bridge who’s only in a single scene)

X-Men: First Class - my favorite superhero movie ❤️

Indiana Jones series - I rewatched the whole series and saw the new one in theaters this summer. The first and third are literal masterpieces. Second one is mean spirited and racist. Fourth actually has quite a bit of charm, but then it fell apart in the back half. The new one…woof. Nobody but Steven Spielberg should be allowed to direct Indy movies.

Asteroid City - the longer it’s been since I saw it, the more and more I think it might be Wes’ masterpiece

Past Lives - incredible. But I know you already know that one lol

Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret - perfect, perfect film.

The Other Guys - we need Adam McKay and Will Ferrell to get back together, the fate of studio comedies hangs on this (anyway this movie is hilarious - but also if hell is real Marky Mark is obviously gonna burn for all eternity)

I saw your tags and let me tell you, I got the results and yeah it was as expected three mistakes (I didn't obsess over them the whole weekend btw I'm normal), but I got the highest grade in the class and the teacher said that my essay was impressive so it makes up for it!! Thank you so much for letting me know how it went, I was worried about you!!!!! I absolutely get the sentiment... We should start a club... (Rory) Gilmore Girls Society. Oohh about obsessing over grades, a hopeful thought I can offer is that I got significantly better at managing the issue and I think that progression started as soon as I made "as long as you're certain that you have in fact learned what needed to be learned, most especially the crux of the subject, you're good" my starting point for well... anything school related. Mistakes are okay!!! (AND GIRL YOUR RESULTS ARE IMPRESSIVE, DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THOSE THREE MISTAKES!!!!!) Sometimes it's just not your day, you're human (although. it would also be cool to see a wire under my skin every once in a while... a girl can dream!) And any kind of effort always counts for something, if not immediately then in the long run for sure. + You recognized what you did wrong before receiving the results officially which is good!!! (EXCEPT FOR THE WORRYING PART!!!) That's what I'm talking about, it means you've conquered that topic and that's what's important. Not to mention that academic validation is way better when you don't overwhelm yourself with assumptions regarding how it's all gonna turn out. It also gets you to appreciate the learning process a lot more (even though there's an downside to that as well, I get too immersed in my studies, which I think you can relate to as well chdjdkdkkdkc).

SOOOOOO HAPPY YOU'RE VIBING WITH THE PLAYLIST, sharing music (and knowledge in general) is my favourite activity in the whole world <3 It's also the best medicine I can come up with!!!! And we have a history of doing this, so I thought it would be a good idea to bring back that tradition. Jess Mariano's alleged communication problems

If there is one thing the Gilmore Girls fandom agrees upon, whether you're team Jess or Dean or Logan, it's that Jess isn't great at communicating. There's just a consensus that he's not great at discussing his problems and that's the number 1 reason why his and Rory's relationship blew up in their face in season 3. But... this is a (somewhat) unfounded complaint? Don't get me wrong, I know Jess can be harsh and rude and really knows how to hit the nail on the head sometimes but there are also multiple instances where he talks after being pushed a little. Like every single time he's talked to Luke about Rory problems ("The girls I like don't give a damn about me," "I told her I loved her" and the infamous swan episode) or when he tells Rory, a girl he barely knows, that his mom doesn't want him back for Christmas.

The problem with Jess is that he picks and chooses who to communicate too. He definitely doesn't talk about Liz to Luke because he knows that Luke just doesn't believe that Liz is a bad person and a neglectful mother. And seriously, we've seen Luke enable Liz' terrible behaviour multiple times on the show, do you really think he would've believed whatever Jess had to say about her? He talks to Rory about Liz that one time and she doesn't believe him either and both we and Jess know that she has a right to that because she's never met Liz, but this is still enough for Jess to never bring her up again (at least from what we see) because he's a 17 year old kid with a terrible relationship with his parents. NO 17 year old kid who's been treated bad by their parents would want to open up about it because it's pretty strongly ingrained in us that having negative emotions against your parents is WRONG. On the other hand, Jess knows that Luke sees his and Rory's relationship and may even help because he has his own unique relationship with the Gilmore Girls, which is why he's much more open about Rory and even seeks advice on occasion.

Now, let's talk about Jess' less than stellar communication moments:

1. Lying about school and Walmart: Jess skives off school a LOT to work at Walmart and save up money. He doesn't tell anyone about it. Why? Because for everyone else in Stars Hollow, and for most of us too, school is important and education is a positive thing needed for growth. But who knows how often Jess went to school before SH, we already know he has a bad relationship with the educational system but why? When he goes back to NY in s2 it's obvious he's not going to school and we know Liz moved around a lot so he may be a lot more behind in school than we know. Yes, he's smart and he reads a lot but that's not enough to do well in school; you need to be able to conform a fair amount and I don't think Jess even went enough to know that. Jess already wasn't planning on going to college and he knows that living with Luke is temporary, which is why he puts more importance into saving up money. He was already working for the future, just in a different way from everyone else. It's obvious that he also wasn't planning to flunk out of school, it happened because he wasn't attending enough not because he was failing (which pisses me off so much don't even get me started). He was going to graduate and then he was going to use the money he saved up while looking for a job that suited him. And that's a pretty solid plan honestly, especially since he didn't have the luxury to suddenly decide to go to 4 year college because his girlfriend told him too like Dean. But this is something else he just couldn't talk about to Luke or Rory, who both think he's capable of great things within the academic sphere. Mind you, once Luke found out he was skipping school he didn't deal with things in the best way either. He stole his car, effectively cutting off Jess' last bit of independence. I really feel like Jess was just waiting to graduate before he had THE talk with Rory about their future, and it was obvious he was thinking longterm ("22.8 miles"). That is before everything goes to shit.

2. Keg! Max!: Let me preface this by saying that Jess definitely made irreversible mistakes in this episode... but it wasn't for the lack of trying. This is the episode that he finds out he's not graduating and we can see him struggling with this information, he's tense and angry and his emotions are simmering. His interactions with Rory, which are usually so easygoing, are surrounded by this air of finality. At this moment, he knows he's going to lose her and his home with Luke because that's what the deal was. But he still goes with her to that party and he still does the bare minimum of mingling. Throughout the party he tells Rory that he wants to leave, I'm guessing to talk to her about what happened. But they don't (this is NOT Rory's fault btw, she had no way to know what happened either) and instead Jess' emotions get the better of him. This is the first of the two instances where we really see how non communicative Jess can be. However I still maintain that if Dean hadn't gotten involved, Jess and Rory would've been able to talk. (fuck Dean)

3. Jess leaves: This is the second case where we see him being truly non communicative, and unfortunately I don't have much to say in his defence. Except that he probably was still reeling from losing his home and meeting his Dad and just didn't know how to put that insane amount of emotion into words. He also probably thought that Rory just didn't want to talk to him anymore because of how terribly he treated her, especially since he was just going to give her more bad news. He could see himself self destructing, and didn't want Rory to be collateral damage.

4. Smaller instances (Swan song, Not calling Rory, fighting with Lorelai): Okay, I think the swan incident was Rory's fault, because he was telling her the truth and just didn't want to get into it in front of Emily. But she wasn't ready to hear it until she talked to Dean, which honestly was a sucky move on her part. The not calling her when he said he would while they were dating in that one random episode was also a similar misunderstanding. The thing in common with both of these instances was that he was ready to learn afterwards; he said he was willing to go back to Emily's house and he bought them tickets to the Distillers and from what the show tells us they had a lot more consistent date nights after that. This was Jess' first proper relationship and he was really trying. Now the Lorelai thing... he just didn't want her in his business. They had no relation to each other and she was very condescending to him the first time they met, he wasn't great either but when an adult talks to you the way she did after you've just been uprooted at your mothers whims, you tend to hate them a little. And honestly I always thought that Jess being weirded out by Lorelai's involvement in his and Rory's relationship was more normal 17 year old behaviour than Dean being overly friendly with her.

So, in conclusion, because he made two big fatal communication mistakes, he's labelled as the broody non talking type. When we see most of the characters actually do the same (Rory drops out of Yale and cuts off ties with her mother, Lorelai sleeps with Christopher after months of miscommunication with Luke, Luke doesn't tell Lorelai, his fiance, that he has a daughter), seriously, they've all made mistakes and this doesn't diminish the mistakes that Jess has made and the hurt he has caused, but he also doesn't deserve to have non communicative as a personality trait. If it was seriously that big of a problem, he wouldn't have been able to grow from it that quickly (by the end of s4) and by reading self help books of all things. I also think it comes off like that because he was in the show for so little time, and that's what the writers chose to focus on.

So tldr, Jess isn't as non communicative as the show wants us to believe and he definitely isn't broody.

yeahhh going into the gilmore girls tag is usually a mistake isn't it. but god no that post is... like the reasoning is so?? my thoughts on it are that, yeah, it's ridiculous. a lot of the general criticisms of christopher are not related to javajunkie, at least not directly!! christopher isn't deadbeat in the sense that he stays home and doesn't work and drinks all day and expects the mom to do everything, but he isn't exactly father of the year. the idea that lorelai is "gate-keeping" rory from him is outlandish, considering the fact that christopher saw his daughter rarely and hadn't visited stars hollow once before he showed up in season 1. he was never there for rory despite being totally welcomed by lorelai then!! there's a reason that after a while they weren't welcoming to him, and that's because he let them down multiple times and hurt both rory and lorelai constantly. paying for rory's tuition is nice, but (a) it was no skin off his back and (b) it doesn't make up for all the shit he'd pulled in the past or the shit he pulls after.

and honestly, when it comes to christopher, his involvement in the luke and lorelai drama is the least of my worries. it was absolutely a dick move, and showed that he really didn't actually care what was best for lorelai, and just wanted her for himself, but out of all the things he does, it is not nearly the worst. my grievances are about how he treats lorelai and especially how he treats rory, his own daughter. rory says it herself—he just comes along and messes up their lives when he leaves every time. he breaks lorelai's heart and then is indignant when she won't forgive him. he doesn't care about rory unless he's getting something from lorelai. he was never there for his own daughter, except for buying her a few things here and there, but he never really looked out for or cared for her. he hurts her and walks out on her and is a major reason that rory struggles so hard with trusting and self worth. yeah, chris was awful with luke and lorelai, but that is not the reason he is called a deadbeat. that post is so dumb and just ignores so much of the show like maybe OP should rewatch at somepoint

the show really starts out as being centred around lorelai. we’re introduced to the show as her story, her town, her daughter, her parents, her world, and a l*ke still ends up taking narrative priority over her in certain ways, despite being introduced as such a minor character in HER story. like i still think in a lot of ways the story was still lorelai’s, but the romantic narrative in the show really ended up being about l*ke getting the girl he had ~pined for~ for so long. (2/3)

like l*ke basically ends up being the romantic lead of the show, with lorelai as The Girl, despite Lorelai ostensibly being the protagonist. i mean i do think lorelai still drove other elements of the show, like the town stuff, the lorelai/rory relationship, and the richard/emily/lorelai relationship (l*ke just isn’t interesting enough to carry the show. but when it came to the romantic arc of the show she really was reduced to a “prize” for l*ke. (3/3)

I think the show avoided Lorelai being completely sidelined, thankfully. Because the creators were truly invested in her and despite being ~swayed, still saw the dynamic clearly (s1-6 and revival, at least), and because she was a fountain of easy charm and charisma and Luke was painfully boring lmao.

But there’s no denying that he encroached into her storyline, and that he took space that he would’ve never had, like all the additional content about his own blood relations, had the circumstances not favoured him by default (I mean, ffs, wasn’t he supposed to be a secondary female character until the network pressed because they wanted a guy? What I wouldn’t give to watch THAT version of Gilmore Girls). That’s what annoys me. Can you imagine how it would go the other way around? Well, you can, because it’s happened once: Felicity in Arrow xDD. A story that ended with the Lorelai of the show (I’m so sorry I’m saying that about you gurl) dead, btw.

That’s still one exception vs. the surplus of displaced female leads we get (besides, Oliver had it coming for his own incompetence in being good to his main love interest to the point he couldn’t even keep her alive. Lorelai did nothing wrong!!). Though this one example seems to suggest a male lead will be punished more severely for giving in to this phenomenon lol.

The point is, the idea that this would happen to a majority of male characters is preposterous. The female version of Luke to the male version of Lorelai would be seen by most as some misguided pining silly girl who should move on with her life, at best. I doubt you’d have such a loud audience backing her up unless something was wrong with the story’s foundations, like in Arrow. Because people would presume that the male lead KNOWS what he wants, and would instinctively respect his wishes; so if he has ignored a woman for years, it must mean he doesn’t want to be with her*.

*obviously, there are circumstances where an audience throws this through the window; specifically, when they don’t consider the woman he does want Worthy TM for whatever bs reason -like race; female characters of color are target disproportionally by this. But I’ve also seen it with wealth, or perceived “value” for a variety of factors like her past relationships or family stability lmao. Fandoms can be really fucking snob.

I was really really weirdly able to relate to a lot of things in rory’s life. her obsession with her dream college, her relationship with her mom, having a “luke’s”. her huge heavy backpack, always having a book with her, even moving to a private school! & all the fears involved in being left out and of scoring low.

moreover, her very quiet and clumsy personality, sometimes too naive, her interest in books & coffee, her lunch periods with headphones and a book!! i felt.... really represented.

even her reaction to college life, being just as fascinated with the academic side and not the ~partying~, was so satisfying, i could really see myself in her.

however, rory is too socially apt for me to completely relate to her, definitely because of the outstanding parenting done by lorelai. and in that sense, I relate more to paris. i often feel the fear of being alone and deep down like i’m not enough which i don’t think rory truly ever felt. rory’s a lot wiser and confident than paris there and will try to help her.

i can really relate to the vulnerable side of paris, though not the facade she’s learned to put up of this cold-hearted person. i’m quite light-hearted and non-confrontational, which is the opposite of paris ><, i could never be that loud - and, perhaps, brave - i’m way too shy.

being really mean at times, i feel like it was her lack of self-worth and fear of being left out that drove her to separate herself from everyone else, trying to tell herself she doesn’t need anyone and to overcompensate by trying to be the very best at academic achievements, no matter what cost, while still being her own worst critic. she’s really hard on herself too which i feel once again stems from her own lack of confidence, despite what she shows.

I don’t remember if the viewers see it yet in the third season, but if not, you’ll be able to see later paris show herself truly. i could really understand what paris said when opening up about subjects dear to her heart, her family. the development of the friendship with rory was to me, yet another beautiful thing in the show. i think they make each other better.

i also really enjoy the wittiness of paris, and something i wish i could do... call out other people on their bullshit so swiftly and leaving others speechless.

however, i do think paris could have done so much more growth. she never really learnt and i actually felt sorry for her unfortunate events, but i guess also rory’s! about the review, as you can probably tell.. this is one of my favorite shows. 🍂 however, i really really wish some characters had a better closure :(

She’s kinda trash but she’s beautiful trash, you want the drama, you want those hot guys/girls with secret heart of gold, you want the feels, you want something that you literally can not stop watching even though in retrospect it was pretty cringe at times, but for like 2 / all the season of the show she was just pure gold :

Teen Wolf && Vampire Diaries && Once Upon a Time (only the seasons with emma swan) && Riverdale (just season 1 thats all I watched I’ll be honest)

If you want something spooky BOO! and/or supernatural with actual good plot:

The Haunting of Hill House && American Horror Story (Asylum & Murder House are good starter seasons in my opinion) && Supernatural (earlier seasons for spooky vibes, I admit this show has its really really great seasons and its weaker ones but the characters are what make you stick around, it is a hella long show tho so be prepared)

You just want some good old fashioned action, you don’t watch a romance oriented show, you don’t want fluff and all that filler BS, you want some action, some thrill, some real life shit, I respect that and so I present: 

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan

For some reason you want to start a long ass procedural show that has characters you love with your whole heart and soul and very interesting cases: 

Bones (not a cop show, not a doctor show but a blend of cop and forensic anthropology, basically the “I’m not like other girls” of the procedural shows lmao) && Criminal Minds 

You want something thats a superhero show: 

Jessica Jones (gritty very authentic, it gets pretty dark, its DC so yeah)

You want a unique coming of age show with feels:

Haikyuu!! The Office: You want to laugh so hard to pee yourself, I think that fact that this show is a lot of improv is what makes it great like the humor is just so authentic and Im so jealous of the people who get to watch this for the first time, yes fair warning season 1 is kinda cringe but thats just the show figuring itself out tone wise if you want a funny show stick it out till season 2 and be amazed. 

Avatar The Last Airbender: You want some awesome world building and award winning plot, you want such unique and well rounded characters like this show is just great, yes it a cartoon but it proved that a cartoon can be on a whole other level 

Sherlock: you want a mystery with amazing plot and actually pure gold actors, your not up for a romance oriented show, you want da thrill, the GASP ext. (just watch it, like seriously I love this show)

Stranger Things: Idk how to describe her, she’s just got it all, the great science fiction -ish unique plot, the amazing cast, its got some coming of age, its got some humor, its got some GASP what, its definitely got some tears, Its both a character & plot driven show

Gilmore Girls: You want a slice of life, you want good dialogue with witty relatable characters and adorable cute romance you want to find a gem that you have never heard of, I think everyone should give it a go, its honestly a great show that I feel like a lot of people don’t know about

I love the beginning; the reader is already so relatable with the swearing! AND THEN REMUS SHOWING UP? I’m cackling, incredible!

It’s such an adorable fic and shows Sirius’ playful side which I rarely read in post!Azkaban fics as I like the angst that comes with his character through that period of his life.

I really like how you’ve portrayed the friendship between Remus and Sirius; the joking sticking around long after they’ve left Hogwarts. 

Truthfully, this is such a sweet fic and I’m very glad you didn't choose to make it angsty like you were going to! I don’t think my heart could have taken it! It’s a wonderful read, I look forward to seeing what else you put out!

okay so, my definite favourites are (like... these are the fandoution of my entire personality): criminal minds, grey's anatomy, house m.d., bones, boy/girl meets world and the x files. i think they're all great and i hate them <3

robin, idk if you've seen gilmore girls, but you definitely should see it!!!! it's the one show i wish i saw earlier in life and it's very good at capturing experiences that are both universal and very specific. it's comforting, but it's also extremely relatable and the perfect background noise for study sessions as dash puts it, which you might appreciate.

i'm not sure if nova saw stranger things, but if not: do it! it's not mind-blowing or anything, but there are some things to be discussed there and the vibes are immaculate <3 i am not okay with this has similar energy, but unfortunately it was never renewed for a second season :(

i haven't caught up with the flash in ages, but i was very into it a few years ago.

as you know, i also watch quite a lot of (what i consider to be) trash tv, partially because i find it amusing, partially because it almost always ends up being accidentally deep! that's definitely the case with gossip girl and some people here really opened my eyes to everything riverdale could be (besides a top notch comedy ofc) and everything it is in canon, and some of it isn't even subtextual. i enjoy bad tv a lot, just!!!! the mechanics of storytelling are palpable with those.

i prefer elementary to BBC's sherlock and i reccomend it with my whole entire heart, just... PLATONIC SOULMATES EXCELLENCE i'm such a sucker for sherlock adaptations in general, but i particularly like the modern take on the story that's captured here (and in house m.d. as well, but you know enough about that one if you follow me sjsjjsjsjs)

the good place is AMAZING!!!! definitely extraordinary and something you haven't seen before.

the queen's gambit and anne with an e are objectively such good shows and i'm never not gonna recommend them. idc if you saw them, SEE THEM AGAIN! like. NOW!

i've been meaning to watch the marvellous mrs. maisiel (which is created by the person who made gilmore girls) soooo nova!!!!! we can make plans to see it at the same time if you want. 💖
