Just finished reading Qi Ye/Lord Seventh and it was such a good read. I've been interested in learning Jing Beiyuan's backstory since I watched Word of Honor, and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long.

Jing Beiyuan is the smartest and craftest person in the story, but he is honestly so hilarious. I understand he's tired and deserves rest, but he really takes his dedication to sleeping and being lazy to the next level. But I can't blame him. If I too could run amok and be a lazy pampered sloth, I would do it.

And Wu Xi🥺. He's so straightforward, honest and endearing, and his love story with Jing Beiyuan of childhood friends to lovers is so sweet. Before they became friends they were both unhappy and isolating themselves. But then they slowly take steps towards each other, and find their happiness and love in the other. Just top tier romance.

Wu Xi falls for Jing Beiyuan first which isn't surprising. But even though Jing Beiyuan takes longer to acknowledge his love for Wu Xi, I love how he makes the choice to love him. It's not fate or destiny, they both choose who they love. There's something beautiful in that.

And when comparing Jing Beiyuan's relationship with Wu Xi versus Helian Yi, Helian Yi might have been his fated love but Wu Xi was his chosen soulmate. Even though Helian Yi should have known Jing Beiyuan's true self, he never learned to trust him in either lifetime. Instead, in both lifetimes he became paranoid and longed for him to change.

Then you compare that to Wu Xi who chooses to trust and love Jing Beiyuan. Wu Xi might not always agree with his decisions and sometimes wants to correct Jing Beiyuan, but he never wants him to change or be different. Instead, Wu Xi chooses to stay by Jing Beiyuan's side and works to feel more worthy of him. Even offering directly to change for him.

But Jing Beiyuan also doesn't want Wu Xi to change. He loves Wu Xi's honest, steadfast and unwavering nature despite complaining about it. That's why it never works with Helian Yi, because Helian Yi and Jing Beiyuan never come to truly understand each other. While Jing Beiyuan and Wu Xi do. They both know and accept the man they love, and love them wholeheartedly.

And then we have my dear Zhou Zishu being a shady murder baby. It's a bit melancholic having him in the story, because I know he'll slowly lose everything before finding happiness again when he meets Wen Kexing. But it was nice to see how they all grew up together and were really good friends. Jing Beiyuan and ZZS are also a funny pair if you ignore the murder. They are very different but very similar. They also have the same future aspirations in life - being lazy trophy husbands who are well taken care of. Glad it worked out for both of them.

It seems that not everyone is aware that the Roys from Succession are based on Rupert Murdoch and his family, a real family of Australian-American billionaires who own News Corp, one of the largest media conglomerates in the world whose properties include Fox News, The Sun, and the majority of news media outlets in Australia.

It’s in no way conclusive, but I highly recommend watching this CNN docuseries The Murdochs: Empire of Influence if you’re interested in learning the basics about how this one family of despicable people have almost single-handedly controlled the Western media for the last 50 years and used their power to influence the public regarding things such as climate denial, Brexit, and the 2016 US presidential election.

Short vampire headcanon:)

Imagine you and your vampire boyfriend holding each other after being intimate. Nothing but complete silence with your hot breaths being the only sound in the whole room. Him being still inside of you, holding you closer to his body than before he finished as if you were to vanish into thin air if he let off of you. Coming down from your own height, you only smile to yourself and decide to play with his soft hair. He always gets warm any time you do something, and you wonder what it could possibly be since vampires are said to be cold as ice. You didn’t complain though, it felt really nice.

While you were lost in your world, your boyfriend loosened up a little and began to slowly stroke your figure. More exactly, the marks he has left on you. Maybe it was the monster in him or maybe just pure selfish thoughts, but he always had to leave some kind of mark on you during sex. He absolutely adored looking at your body covered in them later on. He also did it to show who you belong to if anyone tried something, monsters or humans.

Soon enough, sleep began to take over your senses, making you do short stops while you play with his strands. When you decided not to fight it anymore and finally close your eyes, you heard a slight chuckle and a kiss on your forehead. He turns you on top of him gently as not to wake you up, and you just bury your head more into his chest.

“Good night sweet stuff, go to sleep. I will take care of everything.“ he coos into your ear and as you’re not able to make a coherent sentence anymore, you just hum in response. He wraps around you two another blanket so you won’t catch cold and starts mumbling reassuring words, such as “You did so good today.” and “I am so proud of you.”. Another thing he always does. He is conscious of his strength and knows humans are way more fragile than vampires, hence why is he scared he might hurt you in the heat of the moment. He knows you would have said if you were in pain but telling you reassuring words makes him feel as if there even was something, this could maybe help a bit. Either to make you tell him or to make it go away.

“I am so lucky to have you.” You mumble and he smiles at you. “I think we could argue who is lucky here, love.” was his reply but you don’t hear him anymore. He hums, pushes you closer to him and closes his eyes, ready for sleep to take him too.

As summer turned to Autumn and the days got colder and shorter, Phoenix and Dawn found themselves shifting focus to their careers. They both earned big promotions that led to higher stress and longer hours. With less time to see each other during the week, they made the most of what small pockets of time they could… like their 15 minutes over coffee in the mornings.

Phoenix, who has been working for the San Myshuno Human Rights Commission, is now heading the Department for Housing and Community Development. At first, he was excited and had big plans for the future of the city. Unfortunately, it seems the more power he is given to make a positive impact, the more he runs into roadblocks and red tape. The stress and frustration started taking a toll.

To cope with the stress, he began spending more time in Mt. Komorebi where he’d go snowboarding with his friends the way he used to before Kiyoshi ever presented the idea of climbing the mountain.

Nothing like the rush of flying down the slopes and landing massive jumps to get your mind off things, I suppose.

Meanwhile, Dawn has been working for the Dreamer Foundation as an Event Planner. She organizes many of their fundraising events, and they’ve been doing so well that she’s started putting together more prestigious events for their larger donors. This, of course, comes with its own kind of stress and frustration.

Rather than take off for the mountains though, she felt like she needed to make time to slow down and breathe. So, she started getting into wellness activities like yoga and meditation.

Oh! Also, Atlas and Asher started coming over every Sunday to join them for dinner...

...and to watch the latest season of Somnium.

All four of them are now fully invested in the series. (how could they not be with a genius creator like @rebouks)

kira's ongoing narrative in relation to cardassia and post-genocide complication of easy stories -- not, of course, that it was not genocide, but that some people she thought of as enemies were allies, and many people who were a part of the oppressing forces, were later, in turn, the victims of a mass attempted-genocide

and the idea that she, personally, cannot hate every individual cardassian, because she genuinely wants to build and heal and what that looks like, versus many (understandably) traumatised bajorans who are still and will always be at war

it's such a complicated, ongoing, twisty-turny storyline that returns again and again, with dukat, with garak, with ghemor, with damar, with ziyal, with rugal (although he and kira don't really interact, but in terms of the wider complexity of bajoran-cardassian interactions), with marritza (I've forgotten characters I know it -- there's natima as well, although I don't think she and kira interact?)

and then her ongoing narrative related to healing vs punishment vs power with -- yes li nalas and bareil, with winn and opaka (battle lines really is the first realisation I think of kira's needs and ongoing journey), with the people she was in the resistance with, some of whom are trying to create new lives some of whom cannot, ziyal again...

i also wonder about a stitch in time, and the knowledge that cardassia's rich, spiritual life was all but stamped out by a military dictatorship, and how kira would feel about this/whether she would feel a connection with the underground religious space that survived despite it

i think the reason it (mostly, let's not go into the storyline with her mother) works is that it's something her narrative returns to over and over, like a worried tooth, not necessarily in a single straight line, but via individual stories from many directions, with this understanding that she's at the centre of this massive change and she may have to take on a leadership position in order to facilitate and hold together bajoran ideals and culture and history and pain and hope through that, and bit by bit she grows into that role. and in some ways it doesn't come across as conscious, but it builds up slowly like drops accumulating, until there's a picture there

it's so so good, and imo the most complete/successful storyline given to a character in ds9 (I think nog-and-rom as a somewhat more intimate ongoing push-and-pull storyline, and also benjamin sisko on a macro spiritual level have a similar kind of thorough exploration, if different in focus, and also - to an extent - odo). my one big thing with kira's narrative is consistently how they handled ziyal, that is my personal biggest detractor. shocking because -- perhaps with benefit of hindsight, perhaps with a little less sexism idk -- there were so many ways they could have gone with ziyal, it seemed obvious while i was watching, and yet

#am reminded as i write that i literally wrote fanfic about these things #but i have not finished any of it #i wanna go back to having time and brainspace #thematically ds9 is to me so much kiras and siskos stories as the main main #ramblerambleramlbe #this is not a proper meta it's just... there really was so much focus given to this #in a way that i think some stories need so badly #vs a single linear progression #lot of changes happening in tv in the near future -- one of my biggest hopes is that something can be made to fit the format #rather than attempting to consistently squash everything into one size #i just imagine if michael burnham had been given this kind of space to really delve into her #we'll always have fanfiction ofc

Can I just say for all the people saying Belos ‘deserves a pathetic death’ and alike, I agree but it’s not about the death itself. He didn’t suffer, he died thinking he was right and trying to continue his manipulation, trying to start all over again. I think for his death to be truly satisfying he needed to remember, he needed to be plagued with visions of the past and the consequences of his actions, how they have amounted to nothing and destroyed his body and his mind in the process. I wanted him to realise, and this could have happened AND them leaving him to die in the rain and stomping on his skull. I understand most people watching the owl house aren’t looking for signs Belos is completing the hubris, harmatia, peripeteia, anagnorisis timeline of tragedy like I was because I keep thinking abt him through the lense of my tragedy course lol but I really wish he had that anagnorisis, that moment of realisation. I just wish he didn’t die thinking he could be martyred in any way for his efforts and death for his cause hmm

Edit: SORRY I turned reblogs off bc this was meant to be just throwing a thought out there before I rewatch the episode tmr and my opinion may change and I am not in a mental state to debate things or respond to people atm
