the character everyone gets wrong

I genuinely think that fandom (especially large ones) have a tendency to get characters completely, devastatingly wrong. I truly do. But when you have a large fandom with a lot of awful takes there will be few that just *get it*. So, on the top of my head, I can't quite point out, character that is wrongly interpreted by everyone.

MCU fandom puts Steve in such weird saint/whore dichotomy that it needs to be studied. 

There  is no middle ground in engaging with his character.

He is simultaneously mocked for being nice and boring, but second that he makes something very human he's instantly demonized. T*ny gets to make mistakes left and right because "it makes him human", but Steve always has to be a paragon of virtue, otherwise he's Mr.Trump in spandex.

He's very important to me and what MCU fandom does to him makes me truly angry and sad.

Hello! I'm Shadow! I'm not entirely new to hockeyblr; I originally posted hockey on my main. However I decided to create this blog to separate my hockey talk from my non-hockey talk. Boundaries and other stuff under the cut.

ABOUT ME: I'm 17, queer, autistic (with ADHD in the mix) and I've been a Blues fan all my life. I also support the Washington Capitals, and I've been considering adopting the Kraken as a third team. Outside the NHL, I support the Kansas City Mavericks of the ECHL. As for players, I like Vladimir Tarasenko, TJ Oshie, Sidney Crosby, Cale Makar, Artemi Panarin and to an extent Cole Caufield. I also support generally more disliked players such as Tom Wilson. Brad Marchand has also grown on me a little. Additionally, I do want to share that I do support and *will* post about some incredibly controversial players, those players being Alex Ovechkin and Patrick Kane. The reason I'm sharing this is because there is one thing I want to make very clear: While I support a player on the ice, I don't exactly support a player off the ice. In fact, there may be times I will openly criticize a player's actions, even if they are my favorite. So, if seeing any of the players mentioned above makes you VERY uncomfortable, filter out the players' names (see also: tagging system) or block me for your own comfort. (Additionally, if you're curious on where I stand on Kane's 2015/16 cases, I won't get into that entirely, as it's a pretty messy subject and I don't think I could do it justice, however I'll direct you to read these posts from other users so you can try to guess how I feel). What horrifies me most about the events this week — besides the evidence it provides that the “Player Safety” system is incredibly broken and does not protect players — is the message this entire mess has surely sent to Tom Wilson. The lesson it has taught him is this:

I can beat the shit out of two vulnerable players (and be an unsportsmanlike dickwad about it afterwards) and receive little more than a slap on the wrist from the league

The repeat offender rule clearly doesn’t stick to me, because I just got suspended earlier THIS season and still nothing happened to me this time

I can do all those things and STILL get to play the next game in my usual position and minutes.

What’s more, when I DO play in that game and the team whose players I attacked tries to enact the punishment on me that the league would not, my teammates will stick up for me and fight multiple times on my behalf. Also we’ll win.

Players from the other team (including one of the players I originally attacked) will be suspended or otherwise punished for their actions in that second-game line brawl, but I still don’t need to worry about further discipline.

If the other team’s owner complains that I was not punished severely enough for my original violent actions, the League will defend the decision to go easy on me and fine that owner $250,000.

Ergo: I, Tom Wilson, can expect to be able to repeat that series of actions without fear of serious consequences.

If I owned whatever team ends up facing Washington in the first round, I would be giving Gary Bettman a BIG earful right now, because the message that has just been sent to Wilson is that my team’s most valuable and skilled players will basically be open season come playoff time, and he should expect to face no consequences for endangering or maiming them.

Good job, NHL. You really botched this one up good.

It's kind of saddening that the media treats the discourse on the Loki fandom, or the fallout after the last episode, as something as mere as "shipping war" between people who want to see Lokius become canon and other else. IT'S NOT. People are mad not because Loki didn't end up with Mobius, but because they treated Loki's bisexuality as just a passing afterthought, a mere half second line, and then completely fetishizing his genderfluidity. I’m starting to wonder if the disrespect when it comes to celebrities, like in my case I’m calling out shipping real people, comes with the fact that the grand majority of the shipping that occurs in fandom spaces, are male.

This all comes back full circle with the fetishization of m/m relationships. Now I won’t put ALL the blame on fans and stans because corporations loooove to take advantage of this and use it as another stool for queerbaiting. Then those same stans eat that shit up.

It’s also very telling on how scary technology has gotten when it comes to fiction. I keep telling you all that the real and fictional world is a blurred line and many have crossed it. Which is why a lot of stans get super defensive saying that sexualizing male celebrities “does not damage them”. Downplaying to a minuscule the seriousness of treating people like objects.

This will NOT and I guarantee WILL NOT fly by if these were women (and it SHOULDN’T- to anyone).

Trigger Warning: I also want to reiterate that there is a site that writes (and uses images/addresses) about real ordinary women in a sexual manner. Many aren’t aware of this. Does this make it right? What they don’t know can’t hurt them right? No? It’s not the same? How is it not the same?

You can’t believe that actors aren’t stupid enough and they know about the shit people do in their name? Why do you think so many show disgust, cringe and avoid altogether googling their name?

wow. every trope ticked. every worst possible scenario, congrats Marvel! once again in just a single episode you've wasted so much build up for something interesting. the girlboss angst route really wasn't it, and i've never been more distraught or resentful in my life. this is also a period of realization of how pathetic I am to submit myself so heavily to a show. anyways let's begin...

I honestly really enjoyed Kang the Conquerer. Jonathan portrayed him so well. His character was introduced meaningfully, and did a great job bringing in the swell of the series finale. My issues begin with the blatant ignorance of the writers to sneak in that kiss. I wish I could say we aren't that fucking stupid but sadly of "we" are. The little communities we isolate ourselves in sometimes convince of otherwise but the wide majority of Disney + consumers condone this. The way every dialogue maneuvered around Sylvie's relationship with Thor, the way they brush over the fact they came out of the same COOTER bro it's so frustrating and I am not in the right headspace to go further into that atm... Instead let's discuss how lazy the reversion trope used for the TVA was. Every time a series uses that is reeks of busy work for next season. In the third act of this episode the entire thing fell apart so fast. The cinematography of the series in general is lacking ante, it's not meaningful in any way. Another nit picky thing is the dialogue is soooo tired. Mobius said the same sentence like 10 times with no structural diversity it was so unnatural and it creates a huge disconnect for his character. There's never any nuance to any of the dialogue it's more telling than usage of subtext. They wrapped this up like a slow burn ao3, skeletal non-imaginative plot relying on ships for the audience. We need to acknowledge without the ships no matter what side ur on, the show is exposed as being less than average, OBJECTIVELY. I cannot believe this is real and I am taking a break from social media for a week bc this topic will fry my brain... I suggest y'all do the same as well especially tik tok self care <3

tom wilson has cleaned up his play tremendously in the past two seasons. but most people don't care to be told that. no one ever wants to embrace a narrative that might redeem someone they hate.

(and they certainly don't want to have to look at the good deeds tom does off the ice, or at how much his teammates love him, or how the coaching staff all say he'll be captain one day)

most teams have an enforcer. (and tom isn't even one, anymore. he's just a top six forward who is also a wrecking ball.) everyone's team has someone who is guilty of dirty hits. the best we can do is acknowledge them and condemn them, every time, no matter how much we love a player.

as far as people who despise the caps as a whole - I don't know, man, I try not to go near them, because I'll just get pissed off. I don't get it. how can you not love these terrible rowdy boys who live for hugs and spanking each other? obviously if you're a born and bred pens fan, sure, hate the caps, that makes sense, but like even I (begrudgingly) reblog pens content. I still like some of the players.

and of course playoffs breed the strongest us vs. them mentality out there, so things get even spicier.
