I cannot wait to see Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken no matter the mixed reviews and numerous spoilers. I'm thinking of going this weekend to the cinema. This, is for a very important reason:

Chelsea Van Der Zee, is the reason. When I initially saw pictures of her, I was hyped to see how DreamWorks is going to poke fun at the live-action remakes. Because come on, production of this movie started 2 years after the announcement of the live-action Little Mermaid. BUT, there is another layer to the parody of her character that will fly over most people's heads: She's a Dutch mermaid. Her faux-Dutch last name is a proper sounding Dutch surname, it doesn't falls into the pitfalls of writing it as Vanderzee, and whilst on the nose it's a well-constructed surname. Like, the people who created her last name were aware of HOW our surnames were constructed and didn't end up creating a non-realistic surname that simply sounds Dutch like Gossip Girl did. I remember trying to playback a moment in the trailer several times, when Chelsea confronted Ruby about being a kraken in the trailer, she says a word at the end that I couldn't place and no matter how many times I rewinded it I didn't understood what she said. Until I came across the scripted version of the quote yesterday; “I know your secret. You're a kraken, hiding as a human. And soon, everyone will know the truth. Kusjes!” Kusjes is horribly butchered, but it's Dutch for 'kisses' and we actually do use that and XOXO, just like English speakers do so the usage of Dutch that I have seen so far is correct. Now, I have actually seen people speculate she's Dutch because of That's So Raven, but as a Dutch person myself I see it from a different angle: There's a phenomenon I like to call the 'Dutch Default'. Historically, the English had difficulties recognizing which Germanic speaking culture was which. You can even see this reflected in our English name, 'Dutch', when that's how the Germans refer to themselves, as the Deutsch. We calls ourselves Nederlanders in our tongue. Pennsylvanian Dutch? I was told the area was mostly Swedish. I can continue with examples. Whilst I noticed the UK has became a little better educated about the topic, this is still perpetuated by Americans to this day. When The Little Mermaid live action was announced, there were various people who actually confused us for the Danish. Some were harmless comments like calling the novel Dutch instead of a Danish novel. Others were not. When there were Danish people speaking on social media about how disappointed they were with how Disney treats one of their national symbols, there were hate comments from people defending The Little Mermaid, but various were directed at the Dutch because Americans were too lazy to even Google which culture they are hurling insults too. This, was all taking place during the production of Ruby Gillman. Now, how likely is it that Chelsea is a Dutch mermaid because of That's So Raven, and how likely do you think DreamWorks noticed Twitter and decided to use the Dutch Default as another layer to the parody of Chelsea's character? Because it's not like the entirety of Hollywood seems to be unaware of this phenomenon. The Umbrella Academy S2, actually has this scene with the Swedish brothers being called Dutch even though the characters were already told they were Swedish, and Five corrects them like, "No, they're Swedish." Paired with how Luther shouts at innocent Olga through the phone, it gives a perfect portrayal of how clueless Americans are about foreign cultures. There are people in Hollywood who do notice how little Americans know about other cultures and will harass innocent people on false misconceptions. For DreamWorks to poke fun at Twitter wars for doing so, makes me love Chelsea Van Der Zee.

If I ever see one of those stupid Americans again because this whole drama isn't completely over yet, I will summon Chelsea to drown them to the bottom of the Ocean.

here’s the thing about me + lockwood content

before lockwood & co. i wasn’t really in the mood for editing. yes, i did come up with videos and photo edits but i wasn’t really enjoying it much. it was the same all over again. a new episode - a new video. don’t get me wrong, i loved the show (still do, it’s magnum p.i. i’m talking about) but i’ve been editing that for years now.

every now and again a show was coming back with a new season. the umbrella academy for example. i did my usual “new season = one edit with number 5“ and then stopped (because there’s not really much content to use when there’s 50 main characters and you’re only willing to sit down to edit one of them).

then outer banks came back, i thought “hey, time for a new rafe edit“. he wasn’t in it much. i didn’t come up with a video. fine, okay, back to magnum p.i. (which i still LOVE to death, don’t get me wrong, i would always come up with edits, it’s my 2nd favorite show now) but sometimes it’s nice to have different characters to work with.

wednesday was released and i really liked that, especially tyler. i made some photo edits and a few videos (4 or something). and what then? back to the old routine?

no, lockwood & co. was out. i remembered i had seen the trailer a while ago and liked it so i clicked ‘play‘. and look where we are now. i don’t know the last time one character has sparkled any interested in me and got me this motivated. a new one as well, might i add. i don’t do well with new characters since i always have to kinda let them get to me first, you know. it’s quite the process, too, when you want to edit. you have to get the episodes, the scenes you wanna use, you have to select 0.04 seconds from episode 1 and then 0.02 seconds from episode 8 because you think they could work really well together. so it’s a lot to think about even for short videos or photo edits (find the right episode for a certain scene, take screenshots, have ideas of what you wanna do with that screenshot, find good fonts, effects,…) i think you get me. it takes a lot of dedication (for me) to accept a character. and it’s not like i don’t like most of them. i like a lot. for example i’ve enjoyed characters from titans, fate: the winx saga, the sandman, hsmtmts and so on.

so, what i usually do when i watch a new show is play it in the background. i don’t know any character - i’m not interested in any of them. i press ‘play’ and scroll through instagram or twitter. however with lockwood & co., i didn’t. i had my phone sitting right next to me but i didn’t click on instagram. i didn’t click on twitter. i actually watched the show from the first second on. for some reason it was very special to me, i can’t explain it. it felt like i had found THE show (and character) for me. the one show that could get me back into editing, actually loving what i do and create. and it did. look where i am now.

i’m very emotional about this, i cannot even find proper words to express how thankful i am for all of this. i wake up in the morning and am excited about the evening because that’s the time of day i 1) have time to re-watch the show 2) read the books (again) or 3) edit. so this whole saving campaign is not only a matter of stopping netfl** bullshit with unnecessary cancelations, it’s also a matter of heart for me. lockwood & co. is my comfort show. i’ve found it after so many years and i didn’t even know i needed one but i did. lockwood & co. is not your ‘typical ghost show’. lockwood is not your typical good-looking, dick-ish protagonist, he’s way more. he’s the reason i’m doing all of this. i’m trying my best to help with whatever i can because they all deserve to come back for at least one more season. so, every day i stay up until 3-4am, get up at 9am the same day and i don’t regret a single thing. i wanna do this. and i know we can all help them get a new season, together.

it’s been four months (and two days) since the release of lockwood & co. in these four months i’ve been the most creative i’ve ever been, i’ve met the most kind people on social media and i’ve never loved editing more than i do now. and all thanks to anthony lockwood.

I have a theory about Marcus (possible) death in S3...

This is based on what we saw in the trailer and promotional photos. Marcus is seen talking to Viktor in a restaurant, who still has long hair, meaning this is probably in episode 1 or 2. Marcus is wearing a red jacket.

And then in promotional photos we see him wearing that same jacket while reaching out for something that is possibly the kugelblitz.

After that, we don't have any more photos or scenes in the trailer about him. I'm guessing the Kugelblitz appears under the mansion because that's where the siblings appear in the timeline. Marcus is either injured or killed by it.

Maybe he gets injured because we see a bag of blood in the trailer. And he's left in critical condition.

But then i noticed this part on the trailer.

If you look closer at the left side, it looks like there is a portrait of Marcus and maybe a candle? There are also some symbols on the floor... i don’t know what that means but it reminds me of Five in S1 when he was making calculations in his room’s walls and the library...

The Umbrella Children were kicked out of the Mansion, so they are going to stay at the Hotel Obsidian. Where possibly in the next episode, after finding out what happened to Marcus, the Sparrows go looking for them. I believe this because Marcus is Number One and if Reginald sends his new Academy after the Umbrella Academy why would everyone be there, except for Marcus?

It also seems that Ben is in charge now, being Number Two and therefore the leader now.

The Sparrows blame the Umbrella Academy for what happened to Marcus and go after them. Trying to get information about what happened, Christopher uses his powers on them.

The question is… Does Marcus recover or does he die?

If he dies, it might also explain why Reginald is with Klaus in a graveyard... maybe he wants Klaus to summon his Number One... (and possibly also his favorite child in this timeline)

I hope we see more of Marcus than just the first few episodes... I like him a lot.

The full trailer for season 2 of "Heels" is finally out and it looks great!!! :D Jack's dealing with his wife having left and estranged relationship with his brother Ace, Ace is struggling too, Crystal is now an actual wrestler and the DWL are actually adding more female wrestlers, Bobby seems to be now a ref and one of the announcers as well as it exploring more of his and Crystal's relationship, Rooster has a new wrestling persona, there's new cast additions like Emmy Raver Lampman from "Umbrella Academy", and looks like CM Punk is a series regular now too as Ricky. Excited to watch and it's back July 28th.

Today is our silver girl Sophie Beckett!

“Not too surprising that Barbenheimer took home a swathe of awards as its box office numbers rise to unprecedented heights…”

The old-school radio blared across a kitchen filled with mismatched crockery and an oven that looked as industrious as a steam engine.

“You should have been there, you know,” Lucy commented dipping a finger in the batter, her converses tapping against the wooden cupboards. Sophie shook her head, in tandem with her skin shifting another tint towards brown.

“That would be my worst nightmare—and wash your hands.”

Lucy pouted at Sophie, but Sophie raised an amused, brown eyebrow.

“Hey, it’s the rules of the kitchen.”

“Still, you should get an award. You did all the stunts.”

Sophie sighed, tucking a strand of hair that was slowly becoming frizzy—and not due to the heat of the oven.

Encompassing shapeshifting and a plethora of fighting skills meant Sophie practically swanned into every movie that Danbury fixed for her. And truly, she should be thankful that Penelope gave her a job where being forced to put on a mask was a job requirement, not a chore. And she knew the rest of her adopted family supported it, not only to profit from the stories of diva celebrities she witnessed—but also that it got her out of the house. It was a job that forced her into the real world after an entire lifetime of Sophie ensconcing herself within the fantasy worlds found in her mind or on paper.

Ofcourse she never told them that every day she would collapse in her trailer with an empty heart and a roiling stomach, listening to the chatter of her co-stars on their way to a bar. Or how still, every night, she would sit in front of a mirror and try and construct her features to resemble those found in the picture of her parents. Or sit in front of the same mirror and beg for the weight on her body to lift—even if only for her birthday.

Sophie fiddled with the bracelets—one for every month she had been stable. Or as stable as one could be when popping anti-depressants.

“Humility is a virtue Lou Lou, one I do not mind indulging in. And how could I miss today of all days?” she gave her best smile. A smile that would subtly change throughout the day but always managed to appease her sibling’s worries.

She put the batter in the oven and sent a prayer that it would not burn, and another to beg for her current buoyant mood to stay until she could see people enjoy that cake.

“I know…I just…I’m not like you or the others. I need to live vicariously through your extraordinary lives since I’m never going to do anything as exciting.”

Sophie looked over and noted Lucy dejectedly scraping the bowl with a teaspoon.

“Lucy. Think about all the extraordinary people in this world…all of them started off like you.”

“Sophie. Even for you that’s sappy.”

Sophie nudged her.

“Did you know JK Rowling didn’t publish Harry Potter until she was 30? Never went to university?”

“No…I didn’t.”

“Did you know Taylor Swift once was a girl in her room with a guitar? And now she’s an artist who paints pictures with words.”

“Yeah, but she had a talent.”

“So do you. Or is that instrument case empty,” Sophie teased, pointing to Lucy’s embroidered violin case. Lucy rolled her eyes, but Sophie pulled her up. “And more importantly Lucy. Is that in here,” Sophie put her hand on Lucy’s heart, “is a heart of gold, of kindness and brilliance. Someone I can trust. Don’t ever count yourself out.”

“I’ll try not to.”

Sophie wiggled their noses as they did when Sophie used to tuck a little Lucy into bed.

“That’s all we ever want. And if you want…you could always do some training with me. I could teach you. Most of my usefulness is from my right kick rather than this,” she pointed at the nose that had elongated during their conversation. Lucy snorted with a grin.

“See, there’s the brilliant smile. Now, we better clean up—”

The strumming of a guitar tinned through the radio making Sophie grin. Lucy gasped.

“You so planned that!”

Sophie winked and picked up a wooden spoon.

“There I was again tonight, forcing laughter and faking smiles, same old tired, lonely place…”

She held the wooden spoon out to Lucy who rolled her eyes but joined in,

“Walls of insincerity, shifting eyes and vacancy, vanished when I saw your face…”

Sophie took it back as her smile matched Lucy’s,

“All I can say it was, enchanting to meet you…”

And as she danced around the kitchen with her sister, the weight was almost as light as a shadow. And for those precious moments she could feel the ghost of her younger self—or perhaps another self in a silver dress. That joy that now felt like a dream.

Although ofcourse, she had never dreamed. Everyone knew that...
