feel free to PM me with specifics if u want (neighborhood you're staying in, dietary restrictions, interests) so i can make better recs but here are some general must dos

Attractions:

The Art Institute of Chicago is beautiful, huge, and world class and so you will not see everything but they have an app-guided tour that will take you around to some of the most famous works in their collection

The Museum of Science and Industry is a childhood fave but the interactive exhibits still hold up tbh. You can look at anatomical slices of real human bodies and simulate a tornado!

The Shedd Aquarium is amazing but pretty $$ ($40!!) so would recommend if you're super interested but maybe save your money if it doesnt seem worth it to you.

Millenium Park is a must see--weather is kinda touch and go in March but if you get a warm/sunny day I recommend renting a Divvy bike and checking out the Lakefront Trail (side note: Lake Michigan is way bigger than u think it is)

Navy Pier is largely a tourist trap and nothing special I would skip it LOL 1

The Architecture Tours are also amazing and worth it !! Plus the views from the river are unmatched.

Neighborhoods to check out/Food to eat:

(I'm assuming you're staying in the loop but if not I can give you more suggestions based on where you're staying/what's accessible via transit)

Wicker Park/Logan Square

Cool bookstores, record stores, thrifting, good breakfast/brunch, coffee shops up the wazoo. Easily accessible via the blue line (more on transit later), one of my favorite meals ever is the Chicken Fried Chicken from Dove's Luncheonette.

Chinatown

The Chinese American Museum is pretty interesting if you're into history, but the biggest draw of Chinatown is the food. Chiu Quon Bakery has delicious pork buns and egg tarts that are ridiculously affordable, Hing Kee's soup dumplings are top tier. Go4Food is another local favorite and I recommend Happy Lamb if you're looking for hot pot.

Lincoln Park

Lincoln Park Zoo is free!! Check out the lily ponds and the Lincoln Park Conservatory. The coffee and baked goods at Verzenay are a little $$ but totally worth it.

Andersonville:

My biggest pet peeve is when people tell queer tourists to go to Boystown just cuz they have the gay bars and rainbow sidewalks. Andersonville doesn't have as many lesbians as it used to, but the vibes are a lot more inclusive and it feels way less yuppie gay white guy in my humble lesbian opinion. Lots of cute boutiques and good food. Kopi Cafe is unique and has really great vegetarian/pescatarian sandwiches and snacks. Not too far from Little Vietnam either, get a big bowl of pho or a banh mi at Pho 888.

Getting around:

I will wax poetic about the CTA, but it can definitely be intimidating if you're not familiar with it! You can get the Ventra app on your phone and tap it at the turnstiles/on buses --any chip card will work too. The best bang for your buck is to get a 3-day pass or a 5-day pass depending on how long you'll be here, because those give you unlimited rides and you'll probably be doing a lot of running around. The L (for elevated trains) is generally faster than the buses and are named by color (e.g. the red line, blue line, green line etc). Buses are numbered and sometimes have letters too. Google Maps' transit directions are usually solid but estimated arrival times are more accurate on the Ventra app itself.

lol I spent a portion of last night/today reading someone else's live-blogs of season 5 and I'm kinda glad just bc I'd forgotten that in the LAST SCENE of the LAST EPISODE they were like "yay let's go to space and bring magic back to other planets :D FRIENDS ROAD TRIP"

Ok I’m just gonna say it , I love lisanna (she my fave when it comes to the Strauss sibs she even my 2nd fave when it comes to female characters) I love her design when she comes back (I adore the fact she kept her short hair) but as mean as it sounds I think she should have stayed dead , she added more to the story as well as to the characters and gives us a message to the audience that when u lost someone their stay in your heart and watch over u ? Love to hear your thoughts ? 🌺

Big fat agree. I love Lisanna to bits, when I was younger Lisanna was my favourite character in the show, and she was the character that made me so obsessed with Fairy Tail I had the episode numbers of Natsu and the Dragon Egg and Lisanna memorized so I could rewatch it over and over. The scene where she reunites with Mira is one of the few scenes in the show that makes me shed a tear. It holds a special place in my heart. But Mashima did nothing with her character after that and absolutely wasted her!

What I loved about Lisanna was what she meant to the guild. She was revealed to us so lovingly, so bittersweet, starting from one of the cutest side stories in Happy's birth. She added mystery, meaning, and a familial warmth to Natsu's character. A bond that wasn't just the rivalry with Gray or the feared respect he had for Erza. It was a bond that truly felt lovely, felt dear to Natsu as a character. It added depth to Mirajane, who up until then was just the ditzy fanservice girl. It gave her story power, strengthened the meaning behind her tears of frustration in Phantom, and her anger in the arc just before. It added depth to Elfman, and made us realize his hypermasculine act hid such a fragile, broken boy.

Her death was powerful, because it was something Mashima hadn't done before. In a story like this where love and family and protection is so valued, the best form of depth is the fact that a mistake has been made before, a life has been lost, and there's a gaping wound where it stays and can never quite be healed, and that scar makes everyone twice as strong in the future. Lisanna played this role wonderfully, and she was a wonderful, wonderful piece that accentuated the true depth of the 'power of friendship' so much.

When she was dead, she was powerful, narratively. Her death is what inspires MIrajane and Elfman to become stronger and protect the family they still have. Her death is what fuels Fairy Tail to protect Lucy even against Phantom. Her final promise with Natsu to protect the guild adds a new layer to Natsu wanting to protect Lucy, and the fact that she has a grave by her favourite sunset added to the core of Natsu's character, showing how much he cares for his friends and the truly heartwarming ways he shows it. And at the end of the arc, the theme of 'our dead loved ones watching over us' is reflected in both Lisanna and Layla.

Lisanna was peak in Phantom Lord arc, because she is the mistake that everyone in Fairy Tail is trying their hardest not to repeat with Lucy. In an arc about family, true and found, Lisanna was important. She wasn't the linchpin of the arc or anything, but she added a new layer to everything. It was almost as if two stories were being told to us at the same time, one a tragedy, and one a victory.

But once she came back, not only were her flashbacks just never relevant, we didn't even see what happened to her grave. Other than during Tenrou with Mirajane, she never again had any development of any sort (and Tenrou was arguably Mira's development) and she became just another meaningless face in the crowd. I could compare her to Chico, honestly, with how much relevance she ever has again after Tenrou. It upsets me, because Mashima brought her back, just to strip away all that I loved about her--- her meaning, her love, and her kindness--- and gave us something that was just a shell of the character I adored so much. There's no way I can be happy with what happened to Lisanna. So yes, I wish she never came back, so I wouldn't have to witness this imposter wear her name.

Of course I'm just shouting into the void. But that's fine, the void echoes sometimes, and that can be fun too.

It does sound mean to say 'I wish Lisanna stayed dead', but if the character that came back is nothing like the girl we fell in love with, did she ever really come back to life at all?

I think Kirishima is quite good at cooking too. That being said, you both have bake offs with bakusquad as your judges. If Bakugo starts nitpicking your food, Kiri will shut him up whilst complimenting your food and announcing you as the winner. Kiri loves to have surprise desserts ready for you when you come over and if that means wrestling Denki and Sero away from the brownies then a man has to do what a man needs to do.

What is better than cuddling with Kirishima? Nothing I tell you, nothing. He’s the big spoon and he’ll draw on your arms with his fingers. He likes to leave notes on your skin, just tracing out “you’re so adorable” on your back as he pulls you in closer. Overall a total softie who would do anything for you.

Stranger things vol 2 thoughts spoilers ahead

Mike rlly said 'kisses so good they completely derailed my character motivations'

I thought wills moment in the van was not only rlly sweet for everything he told mike but also tragic and relatable so im satisfied w that being his 'coming out' (to the viewer at least lol)

I am dissapointed we didnt get a lil bit more with the jonathan/will scene but i can let it slide bc theyve been building up to it w jonathan being sus of him the entire season lmaooo

I really dont get how modern fandom see any type of interaction between the same sex and cry queerbaiting at the first chance what. Did you think was going to happen. This is a straightie ally show. You didnt really believe all of the lies they fed yoy did you?

How was the finale almost 3 hours but still rushed HOW did they manage that that is some endgame level writing

It really was weaker than vol 1 in every way but vol 1 is so good im rlly conflicted abt this season as a whole

I have this problem w stranger things seasons in which the pacing is really good all season but then they remember they have to wrap it up and the last two episodes feel super crammed. The only season that felt well paced in that regard is season 2 if you take out the lost sister

Eddie dying was completely useless and his sacrifice would have been more meaningful if he directly saved someone instead of just buying time? Yeah. Am i satisfied with his character arc? Also yeah because from HOW they built it you could tell he was going to die lmao. My only complaint is that they wrote themselves into a corner with eddie being the town scapegoat and didnt know how to write themselves out without killing him but it did give us the moment w dustin and his uncle which made me bawl

U white girls just wanted eddie to survive bc he's cute but really he hasn't done a whole deal and was basically the bob of the season. Only reason im sad is bc i wanted ed to meet will and completely take him under his wing and help him come to terms w himself but hey fanfic exists

And dont say i dont like eddie he is EXACTLY my type but in story terms he didnt accomplish a whole lot

I really thought dustin was going to die LMAOOOOO i was REALLY baited i dont know how i came to that conclusion??? I just saw him bonding a lot w eddie and was like oh shit they arent going to kill eddie bc thats too obvious theyre going to kill DUSTIN????

Controversial but. They shouldve kept max dead. I love that she may live (i dont believe that but ok) but her dying was SO impactful and shocking and would have added a lot of weight to the 'we lost' angle instead of just killing a season exclusive character

This was the infinity war of stranger things so they shouldve gone crazy. Kill random residents of hawkins like the teacher from s1. Kill the wheeler milf. Make vecnas win REALLY hurt. Be glad im not writing this show.

Biggest gripe was that this felt like the biggest season in scope and it felt like it was for nothing? I guess thats the point of the 'losing' ending but i really hope some of the stuff this season comes back later bc we really lost some time with it

Hopper and el reuniting was the big respite i needed after all the death and shock. Loved it.

Max and lucas are my fave kids so :) im feeling peachy :)

Conclusion: i didnt like it it was too long and for WHAT. The duffers are pussys they dont have the guts to kill beloved characters.

The only picture you had of Frank was sitting on the mantle over your fireplace. You left it there, half hoping it would melt someday and all remains of him would go with it. You fell in love with his little picture and now you wished he would never stare back at you again.

Because one day he left and didn’t come back. It was practically six months ago now but still felt like yesterday. You hadn’t gotten over it and you imagined you never would. The idea of him being gone so long made the pit in your stomach grow. You thought he was dead for the first week until you got a call from someone telling you he was wanted and that you were to call the second he made contact.

You had gotten that call before. You would never have turned him in, not for an infinite amount of money. You loved him too much. But he never made you make that decision. He never came home.

His clothes were washed and hung up in the closet even still. His side of the bed remained made, his shaving things rested carefully on the bathroom counter.

You sat on your couch alone, flipping through a book as you waited patiently for your food to be done cooking. You had gotten used to the silence that came with your apartment now. There was nothing worse than the disrupting of the silence, you decided. Unless of course it was your doing.

The oven dinged and you got up, walking over to the counter. You pulled out your dinner and there was a loud rasp on the front door. You slowly put it down, looking at the clock. It was 8 and you weren’t expecting company. You walked to the door and looked through the peephole cautiously.

The man on the other side of the door was wearing a hood but facing up, so you could see his face perfectly. Your breath caught in your throat and you threw the door open, staring at Frank in front of you.

“You motherfucker,” you whispered. You grabbed his arm and yanked him inside. You slammed the door shut behind him. You hit his arm, forcing him to look at you.

“Woah woah!” When you went to hit his arm again he grabbed it before you got the chance.

“Don’t ‘woah’ me!” you said, frustrated tears pricking at your eyes. “You’ve been gone six months Frank! I thought you were dead in a ditch somewhere!” You went to hit his chest but he grabbed your arms and pulled you towards him. You fought him for a few more moments in anger, wanting to pull away but also wanting nothing more than to have him hold you. You let him wrap his arms around you and stopped fighting after a moment of struggle. Your arms were against his chest, as was your face. He held the back of your head with his palm, kissing your forehead aggressively. “Where did you go?” you asked.

“I’m sorry,” he said and he sounded like he was serious. “I’m sorry doll,” he repeated, just in case you hadn’t heard him. He pulled you away just enough to look at his face. You traced the new scar on his face absentmindedly. “I was gonna put you in danger by staying here.” “Why didn’t you tell me that?” you asked. His face looked broken for you, like he had been going through the same thing you had. A part of you wanted to make him feel what you were feeling. The other part of you wanted to make sure he never hurt again.

“You would have fought me,” he said. He was probably right. “I couldn’t let you convince me to stay.” “I could have you know. You didn’t need to leave.”

“I did.” He brushed your hair out of your face with his palm, kissing your forehead gingerly. “You would have died. I couldn't let you die.”

“I feel like I died without you.” He laughed dryly.

“But you’re still here, yeah?”

“Skin and bones Frank. Skin and bones.” He kissed your forehead again and moved away from you, looking you up and down.

“Looks like more than that to me.”

“Frank.” You wiped your eyes, making sure no tears had made it out. He held your cheek in his hand again, refusing now to let you go.

“Baby.” You nodded and let out a sihg.

“Are you gonna leave again? Are you here to sleep with me, have some dinner and then leave me again?” He shook his head aggressively.

“I cleaned up the mess. I’m staying.” “Are you sure?”

“I’m sure.”

“Frank if you leave again-”

“I’m not leaving again baby.” You kissed him. He dipped his head down, kissing you with the emotion he had been holding back for what felt like forever. All the grime and dirt had escaped his body. He was just holding you. That was all that existed to him. It made him want to cry so instead he held you even closer, like he could engulf you into his body.

“You promise?” He chuckled, nodding.

“Yeah I promise.”
