It's September 5th. On this day in 1958, Boris Pasternak’s historical novel "Doctor Zhivago" was published in America. The book was set during the tumultuous period of the Russian Revolution and World War I. Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev argued that it romanticized the pre-Revolution Russian upper class and degraded the peasants and workers who fought against the czarist regime. He banned the book in the Soviet Union, but it became an instant classic throughout the rest of the world and won Pasternak the Nobel Prize for Literature.
Pasternak experienced very little of the fame and glory that ordinarily accompanies a Nobel Prize, however. Khrushchev refused to let Pasternak accept his award and expelled him from the Soviet Writers Union to boot, effectively ending his writing career. Pasternak died two years later. "Doctor Zhivago," on the other hand, refused to die. In 1965, influential British director David Lean made the best seller into a blockbuster Hollywood movie starring Egyptian actor Omar Sharif in the title role.  In 1987, Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev righted Khrushchev's wrongs. He posthumously readmitted Pasternak into the Writer's Union and allowed his book to be published in his homeland. ☮️ Peace… Jamiese of Pixoplanet

History according to Netflix…. You can't understand how the Second World War played out in central and eastern Europe (and its aftermath that left tens of millions of people unwillingly trapped behind the Iron Curtain for half a century) without knowing about the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and the two years of collaboration between Hitler's Germany and Stalin's Soviet Union that lasted from August 1939 to June 1941.
It looks like some people would prefer that you don't understand it….

y’all need to learn the difference between USSR and marxism I swear to god haha soviet army man come to insinerate capitalistic pig.jpg  o(≧∀≦)o dude soviet army man is not a symbol of marxism, he’s a symbol of the USSR. the imperialistic authoritative state that punished actual marxists by sending them to prisons or shooting them.  this is an image that evokes memories of starving children, shot poets and sexual abuse. this was an idealized symbol of courage and unity that was used to justify and inspire wars, genosides, manmade famines, erasure of cultures, murder and imprisonement of thousands if not millions, whose relatives are still alive today.  worse yet, it’s used to inspire and justify russian invasion in georgia, moldova and ukraine. today. not in theory, not in a haha way - it’s a real piece of propaganda used by the russian authorities. “we concured germany once, we can do it again to whoever we want”. it’s used as an ideal to children across russia, to promote them joining the army that will then make them murder civilians, like it did today. 22 civillians died in a bombing. today. the men who did this believe in the soviet army man, he led them to their triggers.
there’s a reason every ex-USSR country is demolishing their monuments to the soviet army man
I know americans suck at history, but jesus christ, you’re living in it right now, get a grip just give the insinerator to karl marx
