Bruh how are u so good at putting ur ocs into wakfu screenshot?! Cause dang that is good

(yooo congrats on being my first question )

I get asked this lot, and i’m never quite sure what to say lol. The way I learned how to draw in the first place was by copying the wakfu art style, so the influence is inseparable from my art. I guess 11 year old me set myself on the right path, because i’m still going at it with wakfu art and (apparently) doing great.

Anything other than that is just looking for specific traits of the art style then trying to replicate it in screenshots. The first one i ever did, I used an edited copy of Yugo’s figure as a base. Taking screenshots and just drawing your characters over is a totally valid way to do it (and honestly much quicker), as long as everything is credited properly.

Best i can do is some tips before i get the motivation to drop a real tutorial

Big, stompy feet! Chunky forearms! Wide hands! (s3 looks much slimmer, though)

Faces have huge eyesAlso, most characters don’t have long chins

very subtle airbrush over shadowed areas, and for light (try to make it blend as much as possible, it should barely even be visible. like 5%-9% opacity)

Colored lineart! make a clipping layer then add your colors overtop (try to make it look like there’s no difference between lines and colors), then lower the opacity to around 10-15%

When adding shadows, use the base color on multiply

to get it to blend better with the environment, color pick prominent background colors and cover your character with them. lower opacity to the 0%-10% range (whatever suits the scene), and mess around with layer settings

Something I like to do to make it go better with the image quality is to merge my character into a single layer, then duplicate it twice. take 1 layer, then sharpen it to hell and back. take the other, and blur it until you can barely see the lineart. set both of the layers to around 0%-5% opacity, and it’ll look a bit more low-quality!

If you happen to use clip studio paint, i’ve found that a 3px brush on an average screenshot from fancaps.net is the same size as the show’s lineart

i hope that makes sense!! Other than that, the only thing else I can say is 1. use TONs of references using characters that are built similarly to yours, or have a feature that’s similar enough to yours, and 2. practice! It gets MUCH easier with time.

Liveblog - Dofus, livre 1 : Julith [PART 25]

(trying to pretend I didn't cry about Julith and Jahash while writing the last post) reblog to slap his bald head.... like to slap his bald head....

I talk a lot about Joris probably hating Julith and Jahash, — but I think the things he feels are infinitely more complex.

And yet still perfectly describable by the word hate. It's just what makes sense for Joris to feel about them, in his future.

He probably hates them for how things turned out, yet he kept the surname. He probably hates Bonta for what it did to them, and yet tries to make Bonta better by being a part of the exact system that did these things.

He's going to grow up a little hypocrite who masks his feelings with twenty layers of obfuscation.

Ehh. I would say they were like one fifth of him, compared to the "catboy cultural upbringing" parts and personality traits directly influenced, borrowed, or modelled after Kerubim Crepin's 20 Mental Illnesses.

This is a pretty cold comfort. He won't even know his birth father's voice, or his mother's favorite salad.

He won't even know if he sometimes does little gestures that are just like Julith and Jahash.

Joris has always been caught between darkness and light, I think. From his parents being a Brakmarian and a Bontarian, to his father and uncle hating one another, and marching to these cities aid, to these two dofus.

[guy who headcanons Joris to have OCD voice] [guy who is insane about what Joris says in Dofus MMO voice] There's a lot of tragedy in this because I feel like he spent a lot of his life trying to chase away the parts of him, Bonta, and his own family that he didn't like.

The best he can say for himself is "it's not that dark dragons are evil, it's that they have Evil Thoughts because of magic, and maybe I do too, but me and Grougalorasalar are just more based than those other guys."

But at the same time, what is it, if not acceptance of how things are, that allows him to love Grougalorasalar? To try and understand Atcham? To accept, and very likely in the future, avenge, Julith, and decide to keep his surname?

To love Bonta despite how horrid it is.

(smiling) His trademark multitudes. He can do for others what he can't do for himself. Yaay.

This is quite a tragic moment to me. It's a promise doomed to fail. He can't protect these two forever. He physically can't do that.

Does Joris think of this promise as he sees Leorictus Sheran-Sharm start off the chain of events that leads to the huppermage genocide, Ivory Dofus in hand? Does he think of this as he watches Ogrest's Chaos happen?

Does he think of this, as he sees Grougalorasalar, free, with centuries between them, not spare him a single thought for him despite all the ways he shaped and carved his body into his own vessel?

Does he think he failed, or does he think this folly of his youth? Might he be bitter?

I think Joris may have grown to love Grougalorasalar more than Grougalorasalar could ever love him back. This dragon has always been a part of him, but to Salar, Joris is just a little blimp on his lifespan.

Joris and Kerubim are so alike in the bitter, bitter, tragic divorce-despite-never-being-married department. Imagine being rejected by something that has been a part of you for your whole life. I would literally not survive that

I don't trust the way they're looking. They look like they're going to make a video titled "spilling the tea..." saying Joris plagiarized their makeup tutorials.

I bet they're the two evil fucking huppermages from the Brotherhood of the Forgotten, that never got elaborated upon. THEY HAVE THE SAME FUCKING HAIR AND EVIL STARE.

It is canonically known that there are ways for mortal huppermages to prolong their lifespans, y'know...

The Grimalkine sisters when they reveal in the Wakfu manga that 1. they're a part of the Brotherhood of the Forgotten, and 2. that they killed Joris's dad (and mom) for the recipe of the Elixir of long life, referenced in Dofus MMO, or whatever. (they already reveal this in Dofus 2 but Dofus 2 isn't real (outside my Visions) so they have to take out Joris's trauma in front of Wakfu cast as exposition, despite them having literally no context to any of this).

Their name LITERALLY means "an evil fucking demonic cat"

Weird Nostalgia

Every now and then I’ll have a gameplay experience that makes me want to play some other game. If I’m lucky, it’s a game I still have access to. Sometimes it’s half-and-half, where I technically still have access but I’d have to reinstall it after being offline for like a year and the game has some kind of season system that means what I was doing before doesn’t mean a thing BUT my character isn’t new so I also don’t have a tutorial...

Also, sometimes the connection makes sense - watching videos of oldschool Runescape makes me want to play Wakfu (this makes sense, both have similar leveling-all-skills systems and a tile format but Wakfu has a much prettier aesthetic and a few specific ability sets I find really fun) - but sometimes they don’t. Watching the Runescape videos also makes me want to play EVE Online, which...I guess they still have a kind of slow incremental leveling and a sandbox feel, but beyond that it’s just a sense of, “Spend a hundred hours of tedium to get a videogame fortune” but EVE also doesn’t pay out reliably because it’s more than willing to let some human-player asshat beat you up and take your stuff. Is that the trait I’m nostalgic for? Lack of respect for my time?

Sometimes I think maybe it is. Maybe the game with that trait is a stand-in for a time when my life was relaxed enough that such games felt like they were real options and the resource they wasted wasn’t finite and precious.

Hi, me again :) (hope I’m not bothering) first I’ll say, I have finished your Wakfu fan fics. They were amazingly wonderful and now I am sadden to see them go, I’m defiantly gonna miss Joris and Alys on there adventure. Again you have great talent, never let these selfish humans ruined you and your art.

How do you draw so good?..

I have some ideas that I think are good but I can never put them on paper du to me not a great drawer.. I used to draw back in my school years but now.. not so much.. I wish I could go back on drawing but I’m not very good.. lol

Improvement in art is something that requires time but also work. I didn't start drawing as well as I do now, it took me years to get to this point and I am still learning and improving to this day. I started out with literal stick figures xD

I improved a lot by mimicking other art (comics and cartoons) and life around me. Not through tracing but eyeballing, which is looking at something and trying to draw what you see. Eventually, I did research (like anatomy) and followed tutorials, though all this was done very loosely because I had/have different drawing methods and mindsets that didn't/don't always mesh well with available tutorials. It varies between people; not everyone works the same or needs as much help. You have to find what's helpful and good to you and that requires experimentation.

Not to mention... When I was younger, the internet wasn't an available tool to aid me in drawing, and art programs were still in their testing/baby stages. Same for drawing tablets. My art progress was a slow one in comparison to the youth today who have SO many resources available to them straight off the bat. Just a Google search away and you have tutorials and references for whatever you need. It's crazy and amazing! So, use these resources to your full capacity. (Seriously, it still astonishes me how fast some of you younger artists can improve in so little time, or create such great things at such a young age.)

But one thing is for certain; if you don't draw, you won't improve. Even if you draw a stick figure, you still drew something and that's a step forward. It isn't 'bad' either because you still have a way to go. It's what you are capable of at this moment and it's nothing to be ashamed of; you're still learning. We artists are our own worsts critics and sometimes we can be impatient and relentlessly hard on ourselves. It's up to us to beat ourselves up and give ourselves a chance to enjoy drawing and improve. I won't lie, it's difficult at times... Every artist goes through plenty of phases where we are discouraged or dissatisfied but things get better if work is put into it and we don't give up.

Well, i'm not sure where to start.

When i was a child, me and my sister used to broke doll's legs and arms. Yeah, we didn't play with them like some girls.

My sister inspired me to draw. I wanted to make something myself, but i didn't like how i drew. So, sometimes i asked her to draw something for me. But i knew that it will not last long, so i searched some tutorials, tried something simple, and here i am.

I'm mostly possitive person, but sometimes when bad things happen, i'm not so possitive. Ussually sadness doesn't last long for me because i can find something to do, or find a solution to provlem and i'm alright again. But when me and my sisters lost our mom, i was so closed inside. I couldn't talk, i cried a lot, i couldn't sleep normally. I honestly can't sleep now sometimes, but i got used to it. When my friends are sad, i try to cheer them up. And i mostly do it with small arts. But when it's serious problem, i feel so helpless. I hte that feeling. And because of this, i can be very silent. I'm sorry for my selfishness....

My favourite youtubers are jacksepticeye, markiplier and ihascupquake.

I used to play video games a lot, but now mostly mmorpgs, such as wildstar, revelation and wakfu. My first video game was Rayman 2: The Great Escape. Then i tried to play some Sonic games, but didn't finish them. I can't remember all games that i played, but i met undertale thanks to a friend. Since then i became to be a fan of undertale, and even created my oc character Ika. But time passes, and i sometimes don't feel like it anymore.

I'm not so good at rp, especially in drama or in a fight. You can say that i'm too kind person. Well, i don't care. It's better than to be an anon hater. I hate negativity. But i know that life would not be without it.

I used to write poems at school, but they were mostly negative and about some small problems that can be solved. My new hobby is taking photos. I like to play with effects. Now i want to learn how to make glitch effect on photoshop.

Well, i think that's all for now. I don't really like to talk about myself, but some things i can share with you, guys.

So I was playing Wakfu, trying out the Foggernaut class.  I’m in the tutorial area, getting the basics down, level grinding as I do, and then I get a request to battle.  I ignore it, but they keep coming.  See, they had watched all the episodes of Wakfu, while I had not, and they wanted their Eliotrope to battle and defeat my Foggernaut, like in the series.  I feel a little guilty about beating them (to be fair I did use abilities that cost health towards the end to make them feel better), but it was a fun little experience that I want to remember nonetheless.

A model of my own, made before I even thought of looking for models on the internet, a lot of years ago. ^^ A little christmas cat. At that time I though it was really clever of me to do the christmas hat that way, I was so proud I put it on every little animal I did. Like...

Little bears... (Yeah the quality is downright awful, photo taken with a very old cellphone, like, more than ten years ago).

... Big Tofu... (from Wakfu). But also rabbits, squirrels (don’t have a photo of my squirrels from that time, too bad I thought they were pretty neat. ^^). 

Anyway. I really like working with tutorials, it help a lot to do exactly what we want, but when you manage to do something original with your own two hands, it’s really rewarding.

No Place Like Home

Been playing No Place Like Home recently. It's kinda sorta vaguely like Pathea's My Time at Portia, but not. You're on a planet that's been almost entirely abandoned by humanity after they trashed the place, so you can throw in shades of Wall-E, as well.

Running around and drilling through trash blocks and vacuuming up debris. Recycling stuff into materials you can use to build things. Machines, housing for chickens, bots, pigs, and possibly ducks? Haven't found ducks yet for duck eggs (necessary for the final drill upgrade).

Currency, such as it is, is food. So vegetables, certain dishes, and preserves (and by that it's any food item stuck into the preserving machine, not preserves as in jam, though you can make jam).

The tutorial portion is mostly okay and you can walk away from that with seeds, preserves, and a box (boxes are used for a variety of things, from opening doors to filling in gaps in a walkway or even stopping projectiles). Why not get a head start?

Not intuitive in that it took me forever to realize I already had the fabrication plans for the initial drill upgrade (to allow me to break down rubble), and all I had to do was collect the necessary materials to craft it.

It appeals to that pseudo-OCD quirk of mine, the quirk that sees me happily mining in Wakfu or planting and harvesting resources. Running around cleaning things up, planting veggies or fruits, trees, taming animals (need those eggs, people, and truffles).

Unlike Portia, there's no timers, no missions or whatever where you have to complete them within a certain limit. If you want to spend the day in front of your recyclers feeding them debris and collecting materials, go ahead.

It's by no means perfect. It's still in early access, for one thing, but even games gone gold have plenty of bugs, right? I got stuck at one point on a wall and had to use the Unstuck option on the main menu, which landed me back in her home. I had to hunt around in the Steam community to figure out how to tame the robots. I could see them, but they run away. Turns out, you have to vacuum the debris off them before you can tame them (with batteries, of course, dropped by hostile bots).

Found an odd pig in the underground I have no idea about. Haven't gone looking online yet. I still have plenty to do. Haven't met all of the NPCs with fabrication recipes to sell. Haven't found all the cooking recipes, nor all the areas you can roam around in. Haven't helped the foxes. Plenty to do, and there's no penalty (such as with SDV) if you pass out at 22.00. You just dramatically fall over backward and wake up at home (or the last campsite you used).

I do wonder how things will go later on. See, seed packets are found by drilling debris blocks, so when they're all gone? There are places in the underground that respawn stuff, so... Or there's something I've yet to encounter. But once you've bought all the fabrication recipes, I'm not sure it matters beyond potentially feeding animals. Potatoes for chickens (why?), honey for pigs, batteries for bots. Don't know about ducks.

Still need to find oranges, carrots, blueberries...

Hostile bots are easy to deal with, generally speaking. Sure, you can whack 'em with your drill (left mouse click rather than hold), but it's simpler to just right-click-hold to spray 'em with water and short them out (even easier when you've upgraded the tank, as you start with 100 units and upgrade at the end to 400).
