The Forgotten History of the World’s First Transgender Clinic
I finished the first round of edits on my nonfiction history of trans rights today. It will publish with Norton in 2025, but I decided, because I feel so much of my community is here, to provide a bit of the introduction.
[begin sample]
The Institute for Sexual Sciences had offered safe haven to homosexuals and those we today consider transgender for nearly two decades. It had been built on scientific and humanitarian principles established at the end of the 19th century and which blossomed into the sexology of the early 20th. Founded by Magnus Hirschfeld, a Jewish homosexual, the Institute supported tolerance, feminism, diversity, and science. As a result, it became a chief target for Nazi destruction: “It is our pride,” they declared, to strike a blow against the Institute. As for Magnus Hirschfeld, Hitler would label him the “most dangerous Jew in Germany.”6 It was his face Hitler put on his antisemitic propaganda; his likeness that became a target; his bust committed to the flames on the Opernplatz. You have seen the images. You have watched the towering inferno that roared into the night. The burning of Hirschfeld’s library has been immortalized on film reels and in photographs, representative of the Nazi imperative, symbolic of all they would destroy. Yet few remember what they were burning—or why.
Magnus Hirschfeld had built his Institute on powerful ideas, yet in their infancy: that sex and gender characteristics existed upon a vast spectrum, that people could be born this way, and that, as with any other diversity of nature, these identities should be accepted. He would call them Intermediaries.
Intermediaries carried no stigma and no shame; these sexual and Gender nonconformists had a right to live, a right to thrive. They also had a right to joy. Science would lead the way, but this history unfolds as an interwar thriller—patients and physicians risking their lives to be seen and heard even as Hitler began his rise to power. Many weren’t famous; their lives haven’t been celebrated in fiction or film. Born into a late-nineteenth-century world steeped in the “deep anxieties of men about the shifting work, social roles, and power of men over women,” they came into her own just as sexual science entered the crosshairs of prejudice and hate. The Institute’s own community faced abuse, blackmail, and political machinations; they responded with secret publishing campaigns, leaflet drops, pro-homosexual propaganda, and alignments with rebel factions of Berlin’s literati. They also developed groundbreaking gender affirmation surgeries and the first hormone cocktail for supportive gender therapy.
Nothing like the Institute for Sexual Sciences had ever existed before it opened its doors—and despite a hundred years of progress, there has been nothing like it since. Retrieving this tale has been an exercise in pursuing history at its edges and fringes, in ephemera and letters, in medal texts, in translations. Understanding why it became such a target for hatred tells us everything about our present moment, about a world that has not made peace with difference, that still refuses the light of scientific evidence most especially as it concerns sexual and reproductive rights.
[end sample]
I wanted to add a note here: so many people have come together to make this possible. Like Ralf Dose of the Magnus-Hirschfeld-Gesellschaft (Magnus Hirschfeld Archive), Berlin, and Erin Reed, American journalist and transgender rights activist—Katie Sutton, Heike Bauer. I am also deeply indebted to historian, filmmaker and formative theorist Susan Stryker for her feedback, scholarship, and encouragement all along the way. And Laura Helmuth, editor of Scientific American, whose enthusiasm for a short article helped bring the book into being. So many LGBTQ+ historians, archivists, librarians, and activists made the work possible, that its publication testifies to the power of the queer community and its dedication to preserving and celebrating history. But I ALSO want to mention you, folks here on tumblr who have watched and encouraged and supported over the 18 months it took to write it (among other books and projects). @neil-gaiman has been especially wonderful, and @always-coffee too: thank you.
The support of this community has been important as I’ve faced backlash in other quarters. Thank you, all.
NOTE: they are attempting to rebuild the lost library, and you can help: https://magnus-hirschfeld.de/archivzentrum/archive-center/

Robert De Niro Talks trump
Tumblr media
Robert de Niro turns 81 this year. He still is everything Donald Trump is not; talented, intelligent, compassionate and – as far as I know – a man of a man of impeccable integrity.
Here’s Robert De Niro’s full statement about how Donald Trump should NEVER be president again:
“I’ve spent a lot of time studying bad men. I’ve examined their characteristics, their mannerisms, the utter banality of their cruelty.
Yet there’s something different about Donald Trump. When I look at him, I don’t see a bad man. Truly.
I see an evil one.
Over the years, I’ve met gangsters here and there. This guy tries to be one, but he can’t quite pull it off. There’s such a thing as “honor among thieves.” Yes, even criminals usually have a sense of right and wrong.
Whether they do the right thing or not is a different story — but — they have a moral code, however warped.
Donald Trump does not. He’s a wannabe tough guy with no morals or ethics. No sense of right or wrong. No regard for anyone but himself — not the people he was supposed to lead and protect, not the people he does business with, not the people who follow him, blindly and loyally, not even the people who consider themselves his “friends.” He has contempt for all of them.
Tumblr media
We New Yorkers got to know him over the years that he poisoned the atmosphere and littered our city with monuments to his ego. We knew first hand that this was someone who should never be considered for leadership. We tried to warn the world in 2016.
The repercussions of his turbulent presidency divided America and rattled New York City beyond imagination. Remember how we were jolted by crisis in early 2020, as a virus swept the world.
We lived with Donald Trump’s bombastic behavior every day on the national stage, and we suffered as we saw our neighbors piling up in body bags.
The man who was supposed to protect this country put it in peril, because of his recklessness and impulsiveness. It was like an abusive father ruling the family by fear and violent behavior. That was the consequence of New York’s warning getting ignored. Next time, we know it will be worse.
Make no mistake: the twice-impeached, 4-time indicted Donald Trump is still a fool. But we can’t let our fellow Americans write him off like one. Evil thrives in the shadow of dismissive mockery, which is why we must take the danger of Donald Trump very seriously.
Tumblr media
So today we issue another warning. From this place where Abraham Lincoln spoke — right here in the beating heart of New York — to the rest of America: This is our last chance.
Democracy won’t survive the return of a wannabe dictator. And it won’t overcome evil if we are divided.
So what do we do about it? I know I’m preaching to the choir here. What we’re doing today is valuable, but we have to take today into tomorrow – take it outside these walls. We have to reach out to the half of our country who have ignored the hazards of Trump and, for whatever reason, support elevating him back into the White House.
They’re not stupid, and we must not condemn them for making a stupid choice. Our future doesn’t just depend on us. It depends on them.
Let’s reach out to Trump’s followers with respect. Let’s not talk about “democracy.” “Democracy” may be our holy grail, but to others it is just a word, a concept, and in their embrace of Trump, they’ve already turned their backs on it.
Let’s talk about right and wrong. Let’s talk about humanity.
Let’s talk about kindness. Security for our world.
Safety for our families.
Decency.
Let’s welcome them back.
We won’t get them all, but we can get enough to end the nightmare of Trump, and fulfill the mission of this “Stop Trump Summit.”
Tumblr media
For many Robert de Niro may be far too rich and far too Hollywood, but i consider this as straight from the heart. I love this man.
BTW... I have high regards for followers on Tumblr, some I consider as friends without ever having met them, but I completely understand those who get fed up with my political in betweens. I wish you all the best!
Regards,
Geritsel (Let Donald Trump never ever become president again.)

3 weeks later.
new york is everything you love, put into one city. you thrive in it’s anonymity, ironically.
it’s got the strong sense of culture, the food, the creativity, and the people. like every single person who walks the streets is made to belong there, they all have their purpose for making new york what it is.
that’s what you think as you’re sat outside a coffee shop on 463 w broadway.
you make a note of how one day you’ll commit to living here. you also make note of just how reckless it’d be if you just up and left la then never went back. you hate la, you’ve come to find out. yet there’s so much that keeps you there. you hate it. you don’t belong there. but in some sense of the word, you do.
you sigh with the shake of your head, adjust the cap securely on your head, and tighten the large overcoat you have on. the latte in front of you seeming more interesting now. the still hot liquid distracts you from the intrusive thoughts.
your mind drifts off to natalie. you’re immediately taken back to that night at the party. it’s your first time thinking of that night in weeks. and you realize how you truly haven’t felt the way you did that night, since. you remember the conversations you had, you remember how she went to school at nyu, how she told you she hasn’t left new york since. how she never plans to.
you wonder how she’s doing, if she’s in the city. if she remembers you, or has even thought of you.
it makes you a little sad to think about. your life hasn’t slowed down since the release of the series and sometimes all you wanted was to find some small relief in it all. even with the short-lived moments of connection it feels odd to come back from something like that and move on with your life.
your thought is cut short with a text message from samantha.
greta decided to move the meeting a little earlier. she apologizes for the last minute change. can you be there in the next 30 minutes?
you text a quick reply saying that you’ll be there as soon as you can. with that, you grab your to go cup and find the nearest subway that’ll take you up to 19th street.
you make it there just within the thirty minute mark. a kind man waits for you to arrive at the door and leads you up the elevator to the fourth floor of the walk up.
you’re surprised to see who is seated next to greta when you walk in.
“oh good, you made it! let me introduce you to—” you cut her off.
“—natalie.”
the redhead stands from her seat at the table and reaches over it to shake your hand.
“it’s a pleasure we meet again.” her eyes say something different. not bad necessarily, but something more. you’re not sure what it might be. greta’s eyes light up at the gesture.
“oh you’ve met! well, natalie here is gonna be joining us as head writer right besides me and noah for the next season.”
it’s your turn for your eyes to light up. a sense of relief floods through you. natalie isn’t here just to be here, she was here to be part of something with you.
you turn to her with a genuine smile. though you’ve worked with the people in this room for over a year, natalie is drastically different to them.
natalie was the first person who spoke to you as if you were just you. she didn’t bother you about work and stuff.
she talked to you about things that interested you, that interested her. she talked to you like you were just another individual who happened to be at the same party she was at.
“that’s- that’s actually really good to hear. i’m really excited for how this’ll turn out.”you let out a laugh, one that says you’re still trying to comprehend the news.
“right well, let’s get the meeting started!” greta claps her hands together and sits down.
——
natalie hasn’t stopped staring at you since the meeting started.
she hopes you’re as interested in the meeting as you look, because then at least she’d be sure you haven’t figured out her staring problem.
she only catches your eyes whenever greta or noah turn the attention towards her, then you’re forced to look at her. but she’s always just in time to look away before you can notice the stares.
the truth is, natalie is an absolute maniac. she’s a psychopath. she’s a writer for gods sake!
writers have a tendency to be more in sync with their awareness which is great…but they’re also more able to get in touch with that darker side in their psyche. how else do you think she managed to snag a few award-winning films under her belt?
her creativity reaches into places in her mind most wouldn’t even consider to think of.
point is, natalie is a huge romanticist, and it’s a problem. sometimes.
in her defense, greta came up to her for this job. so in some sense of the word, it was fate. plus, tony had put in a good word, not that she asked him to. obviously.
up until that point, natalie had no clue on how to get to you. her only idea was writing her next screenplay and giving you the lead.
but now, the ball was in her court. she takes the next shot.
the meeting ended and everyone was seeing themselves out. natalie thinks of what to say while she’s packing her things but you beat her to it instead.
“it was really nice to see you again.” she hears you say. she lifts her head up, you’re smiling and your hands are stuffed into your coat pockets. a smile easily reaches her eyes at the sight.
“i’m glad. i’ve already got some plans for where i want to take this next season.” natalie replies with an enthusiastic smile.
you raise your eyebrows in surprise eager to know what she might have to say but you hold yourself back. she wouldn’t spoil that for you, even if you asked.
“i have trust you’ll do it right then, i’ve already grown so protective of this show, especially my character.” it was very true. there were moments where you really had to oversee things going on with the script. thank god greta was as collaborative as she is. you’d always try exploring things with your character and she was always very supportive of where you’d take things. it made the series all the more fulfilling to you, honestly.
natalie confirms that she’ll do anything she thinks is in your best interest for the show and before she even realizes it, you’re making a move she wasn’t expecting.
“i know this is on short notice, but…i saw this really nice bistro on my way here and, i’d love to get to know my head writer more…over brunch?” you ask timidly. the thought to ask her had occurred to you only a few seconds ago. natalie seemed wise, and you liked it and she was here with you now and honestly, you just wanted some good company while being in the city.
“yeah i can do lunch. yeah that’s great actually.” natalie was surprised. to say the least. she hadn’t planned to continue the day with you. she decides this was her chance in. her way of getting to know you better, something she’s been desperate to get back to since she realized it that night in her home.
you lead her out of the building where you’re met with the crisp wind of new york city. car horns and police sirens are heard as you walk through the streets of the flatiron neighborhood. on the way to the restaurant you ask eachother how you’ve been.
you tell her about how you just wrapped up your press tour in europe and had spent a few nights with some friends in london. natalie pays close attention to every word that is hung from your lips. she notices to light blush that covers your cheeks and nose due to the cold and she almost reaches out to pull you in closer.
as you speak, she tries not to notice the obvious man with the camera that makes himself known a few hundred feet away from you. a sense of pride makes washes over her at the fact that there’d be a picture taken of the two of you, together.
you end your story and in return ask her how she’s been. natalie doesn’t miss the genuine interest shown in your eyes as she talks.
even as you reach the restaurant and are seated you never lose your sense.
natalie talks and talks and you listen. you’re so entranced by her stories that you’ve come to find that you deeply admire her for what she does and says. it makes you feel all the more excited for the chance at working with her.
she tells you she’s never not writing. even before greta came along to offer her the role of head writer, she was still writing. natalie tells you about the screenplay she was working on, how she plans to direct it as well.
you beam at her revelation seeming genuinely excited at the fact that she’d be making a movie sometime in the future. you tell her that she better invite you to the premiere.
natalie laughs off your comment. she doesn’t tell you how she got back into her writing after she saw you on her screen for the first time, all those months ago.
or how you’re the muse in her next story.
once your ordered food comes in you sit in a comfortable silence as you eat.
“what do you do on your days off?” natalie asks suddenly. she looks up at you through her lashes, her fork playing with the baked eggs on her plate.
you’re so caught off guard by her question it makes you blush at the way she stares you down. you chew down the food in your mouth and answer.
“uh, i like going home, to see my mom. she doesn’t let me stay for more than i need to though, she says i need to go out and meet new people.” you chuckle. your mom was your biggest supporter but also your biggest critic. although she always enjoys her time with you, she was always telling you to go meet with some of your hometown friends.
it’s why you liked going home so much. she’s great at grounding you when you need to be.
“oh? and have you met any new people?” natalie’s interest is piqued by now. she carefully treads around the question, hoping, wishing for any information that’d give her an in into what she desperately wants to know.
who are you with when you’re not alone? who do you think of when you are?
“i mean, i’ve met some really cool people through mutual friends." you reveal.
“wow, so you haven’t met anyone you fancy?” natalie plays it off coolly. she treads along the sacredness that is your romances. and natalie doesn’t mention the fact that she’s read into your love life recently. the rumors of you and another actress.
the one you were pictured with in london very recently.
“huh? oh, no. i don’t really have anyone like that in my life right now.” you nervously chuckle at her question.
“so you and that actress aren’t a couple? you and jenna ortega?” natalie feeds a forkful of food into her mouth, seeming very nonchalant about what she just asked.
you try not to laugh at natalie’s question. your eyebrows raise in surprise at her very forward question. it’s almost comical, really.
jenna was amongst the close group of friends you stayed with while in london.
she was a flame, someone you’d come to deeply admire over the time spent knowing her. she tells you things that you learn from, you check on eachother, you bring eachother back down to earth.
and she was one of the few people you could actually depend on with your life in this industry.
the silent shock wears off. you’re not sure what to say, except the fact that you feel a little embarrassed at her question. that even natalie of all people had heard about your supposed love life.
something that you tried to keep nurtured as much as possible.
“she’s one of my best friends.” you finally say. more sure than anything. you try not to laugh at the accusation. the idea of it seeming so far away from where you are now.
“i haven’t even dated in such a long time.” you even go as far to say. anything to make it clear you’re nowhere near any level of romance with anyone.
you miss the look of surprise on natalie’s face when you say this. she sets her fork down to sip from the breakfast martini she had ordered. she sets her glass down and takes a look at you, leaning forward only slightly.
“i was so sure someone as pretty as you wouldn’t have stayed single for so long.” then she looks down at her plate with a small smile, contemplating. there’s a beat of silence.
finally, she looks up.
“can’t say i’m disappointed at being proved wrong though.” she finishes.
you laugh at natalie’s comment. it’s all you could do, not really sure at what she could be getting at. you even blush a little.
and natalie misses none of it.

His lips trail sweet; sensual kisses across the curvature of her spine drawing out a soft sigh from her trembling lips, lust coursed through her veins , enveloping her like a warm blanket on an icy winter morning, his lips trailed back up to tug on her ear before whispering with a deep tone, " I've missed you so fucking much love "
If only she could believe him, it seemed as if lying was second nature when it came to him — one minute he'd shower her with unconditional love, the next she finds herself left there with merely images clouding her mind. " If you miss me that much you wouldn't have been busy flirting with that blonde intern working in the training center last week when I came to visit "
He chuckles at her remark, recounting what had transpired a week ago, in his defense — it wasn't anything serious yet she had to make such a big deal out of it, " Oh come on love, it wasn't serious "
" It wasn't serious " She reiterated incredulously, tilting her head to face him as he continued peppering kisses across her soft skin. " You introduced me as your girl and then no more than three hours later, you had your tongue down her throat "
He turns her over to lay on her back as he caged her between his arms, " I don't know what the problem is, we agreed that this wasn't serious "
She sits up with a hardened expression across her face, " We agreed that it wasn't serious but we didn't agree on you treating me like I was your girlfriend but then turn around and claim I'm just a friend whenever you see fit "
He was taken back by her reaction, " Where's all this coming from? " he asks, in pure surprise.
" It's been pent up for ages, I'm tired Trent, I'm tired of dancing in circles — you only tell me you want me when it's fitting for you, when the girl you're with isn't good enough and then I'm stuck with your constant lies for a future that isn't even happening, so I'm done pretending there is hope " She proceeds to leave the bed in search of her clothes whilst he sits there completely shocked by her outburst.
_
It had been three months since they'd last seen one another — he tried to shift his focus more on football while she made more effort to thrive as a content creator/model which hadn’t been facile yet it seemed to work as in no time, she’d been receiving more offers to set her foot into professional modeling which ultimately lead to being invited to the D&G show during the PFW.
The exact same show he just so happened to be invited in.
Cameras flashed as they posed in different directions — all the while she attempted to ignore his presence, he seemed too enthralled by her presence to even look away, so much so – that by the time the show finished; it was time for the after party, he couldn’t resist the thrill of approaching her.
" You look incredible! " He exclaimed the moment he stood next to her at the bar area.
" I know " She retorts with a playful tone.
He chuckles then takes a sip of his drink before stating, " You know I missed you these past few months "
She chuckled softly, " Always a charmer with those lies, they never failed to leave a bad taste in my mouth "
" I’m not lying love " He states with a soft smile.
" Trent I know you, lying is like second nature to you — " She said, taking small sips of her drink before adding with a soft tone. " And for some odd reason I keep falling for it because a part of me continues to live with the hope that you’ll acknowledge the bond that we have is true "
His heart shatters into a million pieces, he whispers hoarsely. " I’m .. " he swallowed the lump in his throat, " I’m sorry … "
" It doesn’t matter … " She murmurs, " We moved on "
A brief wave of silence passed between them before he stated with a soft tone, " I didn’t … "
Her head shot up to meet his tender gaze and for a moment, she wonders if there is a hint of truth behind him; yet, as soon as the match flickers inside of her mind, the darkness clouds above, diminishing any hope of them becoming anymore than a pair of lost souls that cannot seem to crawl past the muddy waters that is their unresolved issues.
" I want to believe it … I want to believe that you love me, but the fact is … you only ever think of me when the girls you’re with aren’t up to your standards so I’m sorry Trent but I can’t do it anymore, I can’t keep running in circles " She said.
He watched with a torn expression as she walked away from him — his heart shattering even further at the sight before him, she embraced someone else, she was here with another man, he should have known that nothing ever lasts forever.
He was the one that shattered her entirely.
He was the one who’d woven vague promises only to shatter them with the grip of his hand.
He was the one that gave her the world then swiftly took it away.
And he will be the one to live with the ache for all eternity, the ache of losing her forever.

12𝔱𝔥 ℌ𝔬𝔲𝔰𝔢 𝔖𝔶𝔫𝔞𝔰𝔱𝔯𝔶
Tumblr media
12th house synastry can be viewed as scary. Often we are told bad things about the 12th house in our own charts or synastry. I always like to start off by saying that this is a part of out chart that runs very deep, this is not an area that deals with surface level matters in relationships. As we know the connection differs depending on what planets are going into the 12th house and which sign rules over the persons 12th house.
This is a house where you can avoid each other, or maybe one does. If both people aren’t awake to this 12th house energy and connection it can scare them. They may not fully understand it and this leads them to avoid it. However they will find its not just as easy as ignoring it because once it’s there it won’t go away, they will feel it for a very long time. It may feel as if once they run away it is out of sight out of mind, but it will creep back in once they least expect it. This is a connection where all of a sudden it can just click for someone, they can have an epiphany where they realise how important this other person is to them. This is the type of connection that stays with you, it feels as if it is rooted deep within you and nothing can fully purge these feeling from you. And nothing can dig as deep in comparison.
Tumblr media
There can be this pattern of one or both people feeling as if they aren’t ready in some way, especially when it comes to the vulnerability of this connection. Often it feels as if the planet person has direct contact with the most hidden and sensitive parts of the 12th house person, like they quite literally have a grip on their soul. This can create a a feeling of exposure for the 12th house person, it can make them feel powerless which can cause them to fight this connection between them. The irony is that most of the time the planet persons intentions are pure. They have a care for the 12th house person and often have this desire to help them. ( thought this is not 100% of the time, once again this goes back to the question of how developed is this person?)
Thus house, in my opinion, holds some of the best yet the worst synastry there is. It’s not easy, however the profound connection that is found here is so beautiful. There are a few factors that will determine if two people with this placement will thrive or die a hard death. If there are more stable placement within their synastry this will help this. Also ,as I am always saying, it is really dependant on the two individuals in this connection. How developed are they? This is the key to their relationship succeeding.
The 12th house in synastry rules over that spiritual kind of connection. It is the key to that mind, body AND spirit type of love or relationship. It can feel as if there is something there that you cant put your finger on. You can’t quite understand or figure out why you feel the way you do for this person because it is unexplainable. This is one where you can show each other things about each other that you weren’t aware of. This can be painful sometimes as it can reveal past wounds. It can also make both people involved more spiritually in tune with themselves and can be a trigger for a lot of growth within the individuals, even if this is painful sometimes.
I have also noticed how this connection between two people has a feel of ‘no matter how far or distant I am I am always with you’. It is as if you have this invisible bond that tethers you together , sometimes for life, even if you aren’t actively in each others lives at certain points. This can be such a pure and potent form of love between two people. If they find themselves at the right place and time in their lives/ development. If both can put away their egos and surrender to the vulnerability they will be rewarded with a connection that can heal and enlighten them.

Fossil Novembirb 2: The Survivors
The End-Cretaceous Extinction was one of the most devastating - and tragic - events on our planet.
In the blink of an eye, the world changed from a thriving biosphere to a decimated one. The asteroid caused worldwide wildfires, tsunamis, and the dramatic release of particles into the air that blocked out the sun.
Nothing over 25 kg could survive, because they had nowhere to hide from the devastation. Anything under that limit had to have somewhere to hide - water or burrowing worked best - and something to eat, which was easier said than done. When the plants can't eat, nothing can.
And yet, life survived - not just life, but dinosaurs themselves!
Tumblr media
Conflicto, by @otussketching
In fact, one of the first fossils we have from the Cenozoic is Conflicto, a Presbyornithid - like "Styginetta" and Teviornis yesterday! - from Antarctica
Why these dinosaurs, and no others?
They had beaks, which would have helped them to access available food sources such as seeds and spores (plant material in a protective casing)
They did not live in trees, but usually near or with water - perfect places to hide
They were powerful fliers, allowing them to escape the flames and whatever else they needed to
Other than that? Random chance.
Much of the evolution of life on this planet is down to Sheer Dumb Luck
Tumblr media
Tsidiiyazhi by Sean Murtha
What happened next was truly remarkable: an adaptive radiation of dinosaurs the likes of which is rarely seen
With all of those newly opened niches, Neornithines adapted quickly, so quickly we can't actually figure out how different major groups of Neoavians - aka, most birds - actually relate to one another.
After all, there was just *so much* free real estate!
Tumblr media
Qianshanornis by @alphynix
In fact, many of these dinosaurs evolved right back into niches that their ancestors had famously lived in - penguins show up so quickly that we're giving marine birds their own day, replacing the now-lost Hesperornithines; Tsidiiyazhi and others quickly replaced the empty tree-bird niches left behind by the lost Enantiornithines; and raptors show up quickly too, already reminiscent of the lost Dromaeosaurs.
Qianshanornis, a mysterious raptor from China, had sickle claws just like its lost bretheren! In fact, it looks like it might be a Cariamiform, a group of dinosaurs including living Seriemas and the extinct Terror Birds, which often have sickle claws like Dromaeosaurs did!
Don't fix what isn't broken, I guess!
Tumblr media
Australornis by @thewoodparable
Non-Neoavians diversified too, with fowl doing just fine across the boundary - Presbyornithids like Conflicto, as well as mysterious forms like Australornis.
Palaeognaths remain weirdly absent, but don't worry - the earilest ones will show up before the Paleocene epoch is done!
The Cenozoic begins with the Paleogene Period, which has the first epoch of the Paleocene - this was a climatic quagmire, with frequent fluctuations at the beginning before a dramatic rise in temperatures at the end. This climate confusion would affect bird evolution greatly - and lead to the diversification of many kinds, some of which we still have today!

A unexpected lesson
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The unexpected lesson we learn from both Lucifer and Alastor is that you don't have to believe or agree about the dream but can support it.
As a parent its hard support something when you believe it will lead to failure, harm and the hurt of not achieving the goal. Save the time and effort to be wasted. So a parent just tries to talk or take away the option to avoid all that. Thinking its best. Because the parent trying to have the child avoid the same mistakes they did. The parent has experience and wisdom in these things.
So the parent typically bring the kid back into reality and stop dreaming. They need the child to be realistic about how the world is. There's a difference between being cautionary and being discouraging. Unfortunately, most just go straight to discouraging as the method to be caution.
But unfortunately the parents not all knowing and surprising things can happen when one pursuing a dream. It may come true.
Succeed or failure, it necessary for a person to grow. Taking away the dream will just lead a person to wilt. Letting them go...may cause some to wilt, some to grow and some to thrive!
Things are not black and white, some things should be discouraged. If it going to bring harm to another person or the dreamer themselves or other dire consequences for example.
The takeaway is, Even if you don't believe in the dream or goal is achievable, it shouldn't stop one to support it. The lesson also broaden to non parent types. Partners, friends...etc
Both Alastor and Lucifer gave their reason why Charlies plan wont work. Valid reasons. Lucifer own experience with/against Heaven. his reason ans experience he so badly want to save and shield Charlie from.
Alastor logical one, man had one life and they lived and how they choose to live it decided they get eternal punishment or reward. There no going regretting the life that chose to follow now they are faced with the consequences.
Yet despite it all, both of them stand beside Charlie and support her dream and cause.
It's just needed and unexpected lesson and reminder what we should be doing as parents and as people.

The Arcana HCs: Lucio's Birthday
~ we interrupt our regular programming to bring you headcanons for Lucio's birthday as today is, in fact, January 13th. please, enjoy :) - brainrot ~
You're about to encounter something difficult enough to require weeks of planning
How do you plan a birthday celebration for someone who thrives on massive parties, but who also currently lives a nomadic lifestyle and is partially exiled from your hometown???
The answer: you spend well over two months preparing, and then hope that Lucio will be okay with this kind of event not happening every single year
You keep track of the names of the different adventurers you've partnered with over time, and leave messages and letters for them at the different towns you pass through with an invitation
You also negotiate with a town you pass through frequently to lend you the use of their square for a day or two. The townspeople know you better than most after all the jobs you've done for them
And then, for the month leading up to it, you have to both save money to throw the party with and lead you both back towards said town without arousing any suspicion
Two days beforehand, you hit the outskirts and convince Lucio to stay in a rundown barn at the edge of town instead of going in and seeing everyone who's shown up to celebrate
The next morning, you hand him the one-person job listing that you and the inn manager came up with to keep him busy out in the forest while you set up
To say he's less than excited after spending the night in a pile of hay is an understatement. Especially since you're not coming with him! Really, MC?
After he goes pouting off into the woods, you meet up with everyone who's made it in the town square. You set up tables, a bonfire, coordinate with your friends, and grab some supplies
Said supplies are to make the rundown barn a little cozier to make up for forcing Lucio to stay there yet another night when a perfectly comfortable inn is less than a mile away
Lucio comes back as the sun is setting with the wild boar he was commissioned to hunt and a pair of kicked wet puppy eyes that make your heart twist in your chest
Thankfully, the bedding and lanterns you brought back help to make up for it. The barn is filled with a cozy, warm glow as you start a pillow fight in the hay and eat dinner on the folded quilts
You stay up late with him that night, reminiscing on all the adventures you've had together and talking about a beautiful future for the two of you
When it hits midnight, you pull out a tiny cake for two and a candle and wish him happy birthday as his eyes light up from the treat
It's a beautiful thing to see how much he's grown. In the past, it would have taken a week of festivities and a mountain of presents to pass as satisfactory
Now his hair is shining golden and rumpled full of straw in the low lantern light, and he's savoring every bite of his cupcake on the floor of an old barn with a completely contented look on his face
You want to give him better, and you are giving him better, and it's made even sweeter by knowing it's something he doesn't expect
The least enjoyable part of the adventure is waking up at the crack of dawn and sneaking away while Lucio sleeps so you can haul the wild boar into town to be prepped for tonight's feast
You're able to catch a couple more hours of sleep, but by midday, Lucio is up and raring to enjoy his birthday
He's a little surprised when you ask to blindfold him (and even more surprised when, after you do, you take him on a long walk instead of back to bed)
When you finally give him his sight back, he's standing in the middle of the town square, surrounded by all the people he's worked next to and worked to benefit with the biggest grins
Yeah, he's used to being worshiped as the count with the big parties, but he's not used to a small crowd of people he respects showing up because they like him for who he is
He's going to cry. He's going to try to hide it. He's going to do a terrible job of hiding it. You're going to have eyeliner smudged on your shirt sleeves
The party is a roaring success. Your own budgeting aside, your party guests have chipped in where they can to make sure that food and wine flow freely all evening and night
(Bringing gifts would have only been inconvenient, with the traveler's lifestyle you two have)
And the shout of laughter that goes up when Lucio recognizes the roast beast slowly turning over the fire as the boar he was packed off to hunt is so loud it leaves your ears ringing
There's dancing, story swapping, strength competitions, and some of the bawdiest songs you've ever heard. And, of course, your partner, right in the middle of the fun and having the time of his life
Thanks to your late morning, you're able to party through the night and lead him back to your reserved room at the inn (finally! a bed!) just as dawn approaches
Your true birthday gift is the week off of jobs at a rented cottage that you spent the rest of your budget on. Lucio's so excited to spend a week being lazy that it almost keeps him from sleeping

Make Charlie and Lucifer PROUD rulers of the PRIDE RING
Charlie is a princess, so Lucifer is pretty much a king, so why not establish this?
Tumblr media
There is nothing that tells us that this guy even runs this particular region of the entire realm he created.
Where is his palace?
His grande entrance was walking into the hotel his daughter owns that we haven't even explored.
Who bought Princess Charlie her own hotel?
Where is the boasting? Any ostentatious showcases of high status that would be normal for even well intentioned rich people? Being rich, flash and used to a lot of freedom can easily create someone who doesn't know best but is adamant that they do, no matter how silly they end up looking and how frustrating they can be, even when meaning well.
Tumblr media
Hell is Lucifer's territory that he created and gives exterminator angels, who are nobodies, free reign of whilst he has a key to the door and seat at the house in heaven.
Lucifer hates the sinners so his lack of leadership and agreement to their genocides are spiteful acts - so let him be proud of his hateful ways, especially if it won't matter.
Charlie's issues with daddy, what we l got sold, was simply not giving her what she wanted the very moment she wanted it, that's what their episode boiled down to because honestly, what did her flashback have to do with anything? She's a grown woman who remembers a loving, fun and interesting person who made time for her but her mother would spoil that? Her dad is the only one of two people she can emotionally blackmail with 'if you loved me....' to get her own way, yet she's no emotional blackmailer, she's 'nice', the writing direction and her lack of doing wrong or anything in particular leads us this way.
Let Charlie be a manipulator who flutters her eyelashes and puts on a sad face to sway others, it's not like they haven't already made her more infantile. Why not commit more to her being a bit of a brat?
Tumblr media
Lucifer and Charlie's different stance on the sinners was very short lived. Charlie got what she asked for and wasn't setting out to change daddy's mind, so much so that his involvement in all this wasn't even acknowledged. She's supposed to pitch to different people who are in different places and win them over, daddy would have been a good start to atleast try with, we could have seen how she tackles a lost cause of an ally.
Tumblr media
We didn't see how she got her 'team' on board, but we did learn early on that she bribed Angeldust, we go on to learn that Husk and Nifty are tied in with Alastor who chooses to work with Charlie but has some ulterior motive, Cherrybomb who we get for a minute is Angel's friend and Vaggie had just been thrown away and picked up by Charlie.
We literally had two outsider characters engage with the hotel and barely with Charlie. Sir Pentious who stuck around but has since checked out and moved on to bigger and better things, all thanks to Charlie's enemy (who ironically succeeded at doing her dream job) and Mimzy who bought us valuable information and could bring us a lot more, but she's not welcome anymore, Charlie wasn't the one to banish her, she didn't see her worth at all, nor that of the unknown sinners Alastor wiped out.
Where is her outreach?
Tumblr media
Community exists and others are thriving.
Why isn't this singing, dancing, out of touch clown out in the community like anyone else selling their cause?
Why isn't she upselling the business and all it has to offer on the regular like she supposedly did before we met her?
She can still be 'nice', showy and stubborn, all traits of being PRIDEFUL.

I just need to rant.
At the end of SF, I'm happy that the relationship among the Archeron sisters is healing and going in a healthier direction. However, I think her stay in the Night Court was just her surviving and ignoring the events that contributed to her trauma. She can't bloom in a place where no one believes in her abilities and herself. It can't be helped that the perceptions of those around her lead to her infantilization.
Elain doesn't want to be coddled. Elain wants to help. Elain wants to be seen. Elain wants to be understood. Her stay in the night court will not give her that. She needs to leave.
Elain needs to be with people who can help her process her trauma. She needs to be with people who believe in her and push her to greater heights. I think her mate and the band of exiles can do that.
It upsets me that there are people who think Elain is fine in the night court. Makes me think they read with their eyes closed.
I think Elain is fine in the NC.
But fine isn't a strong emotion, is it? "How are you?" "I'm fine."
That's not what I think anyone strives for.
"I'm wonderful", "I'm so happy", "I feel alive."
Fine is not bad but fine is not really good either.
Elain managed to find good in the shack they used to live in, they had lost their lifestyle, their mother, their friends during their time in poverty yet Elain still held on to her optimism even though it may have been muted. So I don't doubt that's what she's doing in the Night Court as there are things to be happy about there. She has a beautiful home to live in, she has food, she has her hobbies, people to talk to and she now has a new adorable nephew after he and Feyre nearly died. That alone would have her counting her blessings.
Optimists will always try to focus on those things rather than dwell on what they don't have but that doesn't mean she's in the place where she truly thrives and is alive.
Just because she's not ranting and raving and is trying to make the best of her situation doesn't mean she doesn't lay in the dark at night wondering why things still feel off, feeling hurt that she's not taken seriously in the same way Feyre and Nesta are but trying not to be because she understands she's never going to be a warrior the same way they are, because she's always known how others view her.
I appreciate that Elain has a different sort of strength, the kind that makes her kind and loving regardless of what is thrown her way so I wouldn't expect her to throw a fit over their treatment. But you'd think if someone claims to actually like Elain's character, they would feel indignant on her behalf.
You'd think they'd be angry at Nesta completely disregarding her wishes.
You'd think they'd be angry at the way Az speaks about Elain, how she shouldn't be exposed to the trove yet is fine with Nesta searching. How he can't admit to having thought of a future with her beyond his sexual fantasies.
You'd think they'd feel sad for her, that even though Feyre has started to think of Elain as a person she can ask to do something dangerous (as she did with the Trove), she STILL only considers Elain to be a pleasant companion and nothing more, despite Elain's attempts to bond with Feyre over the past year.
You'd think they'd be frustrated at how they encouraged every other single female to train her powers except for Elain.
It's so clear that Elain will not be getting what she needs from those in the Night Court, they were encouraging Nesta to train all the way back in ACOWAR yet it's still crickets on any attempts with helping Elain with hers. You're right though, Lucien and the BOE are her best chance for others pushing her to embrace what she's capable of.
If anyone thinks the version of Elain that we are currently seeing is Elain at her best, that she's clearly "found" her people, I have to say this is quite the drop from SJMs typical FMCs. I think I'd rather Elain back in the human lands, surrounded by a circle of friends, flushed and brilliant than the lackluster version we've had of her as of late.

Game of Hearts
Summary: You would never have imagined this but playing an Otome Game becomes a path-changing way to live your life. Every choice you make dictates the way your real life will develop, and who you'll end up with. There is only one problem: Can you navigate this 'Game of Hearts' successfully?
Pairing: Hyunjin x Fem!Reader
WC: ~4,2 K
Genre: Romance, Drama, Blurb, Friends to Lovers (?), Confession, Game
Warnings: Language, 1st person
Notes: I had fun playing with this idea. This fic was inspired by "Back to 15" and my longing to build something that'd give a sensation of choice/participation for the readers. But for now, this is just a blurb.
Tumblr media
Every single decision you make counts.
It could be something as stupid as having a vanilla ice cream today instead of a crepe, or something more meaningful as helping someone in need instead of turning your back away. It's terrifying, yet fulfilling. When you pile enough of those decisions, it becomes a part of you, a defining trait. Looking back, you may wonder: Wow, did I really do that? And in that moment, you could find yourself either smiling or shedding tears as you contemplate your past.
It's amazing, really, how much power we hold in our hands.
And frightening.
Not the kind of fear you experience when there's a loud thud outside your door, and you convince yourself that it was probably the cat or the wind. No, it's the fear that creeps in when you trail an unfamiliar path, risking a wrong way to a place you have never been before. It's that feeling you have when you can't help but wonder if you made the right choice. It's those haunting thoughts that make you question why you're taking so long to get there. It's the way your heartbeats fly through the window by the possibility of being left behind, all by yourself, as people move on, as they drift away.
The fear of moving forward or walking back.
Paralyzing, yet thriving.
"So? What's taking you so long?" Hyunjin uncrosses his arms, leaning back on his hands and inadvertently shifting my bed. Naturally, my body follows suit, sinking into the hollow he made.
Our shoulders bump.
It's nothing new, a familiar occurrence among friends. I've bumped shoulders with him a hundred times before. But it's different. Now, I feel every inch of my bare skin in contact with his, and inch by inch our arms connect. Suddenly, I miss the winter uniform and its sleeves going all the way down to my elbows, shielding me from the sizzling heat ignited by our skin-to-skin contact. A heat that spreads from my arms to my neck and face. A heat that swelters me. It is hot in here, isn't it?
The concept of a summer uniform seems pointless right now.
"Want me to take the lead?" Hyunjin's fingers brush against mine, breaking my reverie. My eyes snap to his fingers, to his face, to his eyes; searching for any traces of change in his behavior.
Instead, I find that mischievous, familiar sparkle in his eyes.
I quickly avert my gaze back to the screen, making a point not to lock eyes with him for more than two seconds.
Turns out he only needed one and a half to dazzle me.
Before me, three options gleam with white letters on a blurry scenario, backed by a soothing piano tune in the background. I hover my selection between the first two. The letters glow brighter as I shift through each one: Bad Boy and then Nerd. Carefully, I read the third one: Childhood Friend.
Hyunjin's face flashes back to my thoughts.
I catch myself gauging the glimmer of every little star sprinkling his eyes. I try not to notice how adorable he looks as his eye bags turn puffier than ever, his playfulness shining through them. He was just making fun of me, teasing me as he always does.
Classic Jinnie.
"You're not taking me seriously" Deflect your thoughts, I scold myself, "This isn't the time for games, Hyunjin" His gaze scans my face, as if he suddenly realizes I'm not just jesting.
"Hyunjin" He mutters under his breath, not low enough for my ears to miss. It's amusing how worked up he gets at something so silly, but I can't afford to be diverted by his antics, not with so much at stake, "I mean, it's a little hard to take you seriously when you're fooling around so much!" He snatches the joystick from my hand and toggles between the options. "How could this game change your life?" He scoffs, hovering over 'Childhood Friend'.
"Give it back!" I slap him, snatching the joystick back.
His intense gaze burns into my face.
"What?" I grumble, shifting my attention to the options, as I toggle between them, trying to distract myself from the way he's scrutinizing me, "What?" I repeat impatiently, still avoiding his gaze.
"You're... Snappy" He remarks, leaning forward in an attempt to catch my eyes. I flick my glance towards him and then back to the screen, then back to him, and then... "Do you..." He clears his throat, adjusts his collar, and swallows dryly, "Have a crush on me or something?" He fidgets, and I have enough.
"Really?" This time, I feel obliged to look at him. My expression morphs into an exasperated grimace, and Hyunjin seems to ease back in his seat.
"Well, I don't know!" He raises his hands, trying to defend himself, "You invite me into your room and get all flustered, silent, snappy, and weird! What do you want me to think?!"
"I'm not flustered!" My protest falls on deaf ears.
"You literally avoided my gaze for like five minutes, and there are just the two of us in this room" He gestures exageratedly around my bedroom to make his point, "And I'm sorry if I sound conceited right now, but I think I'm much more interesting than anything in here for you to avoid me this much. So, yeah! Excuse me if I thought you were about to confess or something"
"Hyunjin, get your head out of your ass for a second," I plead so genuinely that it draws a snort out of him, "I'm not confessing, stop freaking out"
"I'm not freaking out, and stop calling me Hyunjin!" He protests, and I sigh heavily.
"Ok, Jinnie" I roll my eyes but I notice his features brightening up, "Will you listen to me now?" I look into his eyes, and our gazes lock together as in a determined handshake.
We seal an unspoken deal. His expression shifts into something more sober, conveying his trust despite how insane I sound. His hand gently rests on top of my thigh, offering reassurance, and then he nods encouragingly.
"I'm listening" It's a promise.
"Somehow..." I'm at a loss for words. How could I even begin to describe whatever the fuck was happening in my life right now? "I mean... I think... Somehow..." He waits patiently, still locked in my gaze, "Could you look away for a sec?" I clear my throat, breaking eye contact as I try to gather my thoughts, "What I mean is..."
"Are you sure this isn't a confession?" He jokes lighthearted, trying to ease my mood.
"Hyunjin" I summon the courage to meet his eyes again. He seems bothered by the way I say his name, his fingers subtly gripping my thigh. His eyes darken, and he shakes his head slightly, as if to dispel a shiver, "Jinnie" I correct myself, but he doesn't seek my eyes again, and the warmth of his touch recedes, "I'm scared" I confess, nervously nibbling on my lower lip.
He doesn't say a word.
Of course, he doesn't. What could he possibly say? He has no idea what I'm trying to say, and I don't know how to make him understand me. Or believe me.
"Y/N" He coaxes, leaning forward to examine my face, "Trust me"
"I do, it's just..." I clear my throat again, inhaling deeply until it starts to hurt too much to keep breathing in. Then, I let it all out in a heavy sigh before studying his face, "You wouldn't believe me. Heck, I wouldn't believe me" I admit, praying for God that I could at least say something that made sense at this point, "I think... I know that this game has the power to change my future" I say in one breath, hoping it could fix any misunderstandings.
Silence.
Hyunjin stares blankly at me, almost as if he's in a daze. He fixes himself on his seat, shifting his gaze to the screen, completely absent-minded. I can't decipher his expression. Is he questioning my sanity, debating whether to call an ambulance or simply taking everything in? When he finally returns his gaze to me, I still have no idea about what is going on in his mind.
He opens his mouth and then closes it.
He does it again.
Then again.
"I know it's hard to believ—" He raises his finger to cut me off.
"Let me just check something" He takes a deep breath, closing his eyes, and then opening them to focus on me, "Are you on drugs?" I start to protest, making a strangled, high-pitched noise in my throat. Hyunjin gestures for me to stop, "Okay, right. Just had to make sure"
"Look" I groan, taken by the anger of not being able to convey my point, "I don't know how to explain it, okay? My life is somehow connected to this Otome Game. Each time I choose one option, someone in real life falls for me" I pause, allowing him some time to process this information.
"Y/N..." Hyunjin ponders his words carefully. His expression shifts through a range of emotions as he searches for something tactful to say. It's crystal clear that he is struggling with that, and about half a minute later, he finally gives up, "This is just insane" He declares, his eyes widening to emphasize his disbelief, as if attempting to shake me out of a reverie.
"Hyunjin" I take his hand on mine, diving into his eyes to show him my unwavering conviction, "I've never been so sure of anything in my life. I tried to deal with it by myself, but right now, I need a friend. I need you, okay?"
"Y/N, you'll always have a friend in me, but I can't pretend I believe in this shit. This is just crazy, you know that, right?" He squeezes my hands into his, returning my look earnestly, "There's no way a game can change the reality"
"I know that" I nod, and he seems relieved for a second, "But it's happening, Hyunjin. I'm not insane, I can assure you of that much"
"I'll probably regret this, but..." He takes a deep breath, letting out a heavy sigh, "What makes you so sure?"
"Before, when I played it, I went for the Bad Boy" I start my explanation, which seems to already bore him. I hope he's patient enough to hear me out, "And Minho hit on me. You know he doesn't even look my way at school!" Hyunjin doesn't react to it. I click my tongue but continue, "Then, I went for Nerd and Chan came to talk to me in the library. He was super nice and giggly! I swear to God he had the heart eyes" Once again, Hyunjin isn't impressed, "And then I went for Childhood Friend..." I glance at him shyly but he doesn't let me finish.
"So, let me throw a new perspective in here" He puckers his lips, then sucks them in, pursing them as he hums sarcastically, "Did it ever cross your mind that they might have a crush on you, and it was all just a coincidence?" He arches his eyebrows meaningfully, suggesting that he has just figured everything out. I roll my eyes.
"Alright, this isn't working" I fix my eyes on the ceiling, trying to gather all my thoughts and not just punch him and send him to hell. I pop my lips, clenching my jaw before looking at him before pleading, "Do you trust me?" He frowns but nods anyway, "Then, let me show you, cuz words alone can't and won't convince you"
"Go on" He shrugs his shoulders, "Show me" His disdain boils my blood, but I don't let it show on my face. At least, I hope not.
I hesitated for a moment, then selected 'Childhood Friend'.
The screen transitioned to a new scenario. The boy on screen looked nothing like Hyunjin, not a single strand of his hair, but his teasing smile and soft eyes were uncannily similar. Still, this wasn't convincing enough. Hyunjin slowly looked at me, grinning at me with oozing confidence, as if challenging me: "See? Nothing changed" His silence spoke volumes.
I keep my eyes on the game, contemplating the scene. It's a bedroom, different from mine, yet the characters were in the same position as us, sitting side by side in dreadful silence.
I've noticed you're getting closer to Reno. He says, casting a glance at the main female character. Is there something going on between you?
Hyunjin's eyebrow twitched, and he shot me a questioningly, curious, and troubled look: "Were you going for Minho before?" He scoffs, but his attempt at humor falls flat. I duck my head between my shoulders, shrugging unsurely.
"Yeah?" I admit reluctantly, avoiding eye contact. It's embarrassing to seek the most obvious choice: The bad boy with a good heart.
"Oh" He delivers quietly, "I see"
Despite the tension in the air, this isn't enough to prove my point, to make him believe in me. So I selected the option that would further test the game's impact on Hyunjin. No. Hyunjin fixes his posture but doesn't say or show anything else.
Oh! I see. Ironical, isn't it? I look at him with a smug face. So... You're just friends, right?
Hyunjin holds his breath, his eyes trained on the screen. There were three options for me to choose but one of them seemed to pop to him. He didn't say anything, but I could feel him restless by my side. The turmoil set inside his mind was evident. Something in the situation fascinates him and has his thoughts wandering.
Not as good friends as us! I scrutinize the option, knowing that this wouldn't set the romantic tone. It was a good thing to save both of us from further problems but it wasn't convincing enough.
Skip.
I... I might have a crush on him. The heartbreaking option. The tone would make me lose some affection points. Not the answer I wanted to give nor the one Hyunjin wanted to receive.
Skip.
Of course... I... I like someone else. The right answer. The one that would set the tone for something more vulnerable and heartwarming. The uncertainty would prompt him to seek answers, to unravel the truth. Who did my character like then?
Hyunjin digs his fingers into the mattress.
I go back to option number two.
Lock.
I couldn't risk losing his friendship and complicating things any further in real life. This should be enough to make him understand, right? It was already obvious that he was yearning for something more, for something that he wouldn't seek if it wasn't the game. It stirred something within him. Was it enough, though?
Unexpectedly, Hyunjin stands up.
"Jeez!" I bring my hand to my heart, startled.
"I have to go" He blurts, making his way to my door.
"Wait!" I reach for him, grabbing his wrist, "What happened?!"
"I don't wanna talk about it" He replied, not looking me in the eyes.
"Jinnie, what happened?" I ask softly, and he softens up with my tone.
"I don't wanna be alone with you right now" He turns back, diving directly into my eyes. I have never seen his gaze so... Disturbed. There was a storm inside his eyes, "I can't afford to be alone with you right now" He corrected himself.
"What do you mean?" I ask, confused by his reaction. This shouldn't go this way, I dismissed his character, diverted from any romantic engagement. It shouldn't develop any more feelings.
"This is some weird shit" He laughs humorlessly, as if trying to escape from his tension, "But I believe you"
"It's fine" I reassure him, taking a step closer. My hand finds its way to his cheeks, and I can see the muscles on his neck pulling, determined not to allow him to indulge in my touch, "I won't ever choose you again" It's a promise to protect our friendship, but it doesn't set too well on him.
"That's not what..." He gulps down, taking my hand away from his face, "I don't want you to choose anyone else"
It's a confession, isn't it? Plain and clear, echoing in my room.
"Oh my God, I'm so sorry, I..." I panic. My heart pounds inside my chest, reverberating all the way up to my throat, making my voice tremble, "It's just the game. Don't take it too seriously; it'll go away as I play—"
"It won't" His voice is unwavering, unlike mine. The turmoil in his eyes settles down; the calm after the storm. "My feelings for you... It wasn't the game. They were already there" He admits earnestly, with no armor to protect his feelings.
"No, no" It's my turn to laugh nervously, "You don't know what you're talking about. The game is playing tricks on you"
"Y/N," He says very seriously, holding both of my hands and bringing me closer, as if to convey the sincerity in his words, "I've always had feelings for you" Another confession. This doesn't make sense. That wasn't the path the game should be taking us, "I've never had the guts to face them, so I shoved them aside, pretending every single one of those feelings was nothing but a manifestation of friendship" Hyunjin's hands were slippery, or maybe that's me. Either way, I slip away from his grip.
"I don't believe you" I mutter under my breath, not strong enough to say anything above a whisper.
"Do you trust me?" He pleads the way I did before.
How can I say no to this?
"I do" The truth slips from my lips, falling with a thud between us.
"Then, let me show you" Another low blow. He knows how to sweep me off my feet.
With Hyunjin's words hanging in the air, the room seems to grow smaller, and the gap between our bodies diminishes until it fades away. On the other hand, my senses seem to expand, and every little thing becomes overwhelming. The way my emotions whirlwind, but refrain from unleashing, gusting inside my ribcage and shrinking my heart, which fights for its life, racing in a way it never did. The tick-tack of a clock in the back of her mind, or the back of my room, I can't tell. It counts the second to something that might tear my world apart. The way Hyunjin stands his ground, his expression sincere and vulnerable, his look lovingly enough to melt all of my worries away.
At some level, I realize I don't want it to be some game side effects.
"Hyunjin" My whisper breaks the silence like a screech. Both of us snap back to reality, and neither of us can face one another in this scenario, so I face the floor.
"Holy shit" He digs his fingers in my shoulders, and I can feel the way a shiver runs down his spine, making his body tremble, "When you call me by my name..." He takes a deep breath and lets it catch in his throat instead of finishing his sentence.
"Jinnie" I offer instead, and his hand finds its way to the back of my head. I shriek.
"Stop playing it, pause the game" He pleads, "It'll prove that my feelings have nothing to do with your choices" He places a kiss on my forehead.
"I've already tried" I admit, fighting my urge to be venturous, to explore everything unveiled before my eyes, to indulge in the practicality of letting him love me, to leave my problems behind, "But my life resets to the moment I played it for the first time. I'm trapped in a loop" There is a pain in my voice that he can't understand, but he can feel, so he hugs me thighter.
"So just choose me" It's a simple request, isn't it?
"Hyunjin..." I find the courage to look him in the eyes, and suddenly, I feel compelled to say: "I don't know if I love you that way. I can't simply put you through this. I'll keep choosing you and then what? We'll be married with two kids? When does it end? Do we want to end up together like this?" I feel like the words are gushing out my mouth, splattering like my feelings, but they're not. My speech is calm and composed, and it's so sober that Hyunjin steps back.
"I do" He admits, averting his eyes from mine. He knows that my answer wouldn't be the same as his, "But you have someone else in mind, don't you?" His tone isn't accusative, but the insinuation itself is.
"What do you mean?" I ask, confused by his antics. His arms slowly untangle from around me.
"You might have a crush on someone else, isn't that right?" His tone is bitter, catching me off guard. When I see his eyes fixed on the screen, everything comes together.
"Minho?!" I'm baffled. So much that I can't further elaborate on that, "I was choosing him just because! There's no deeper meaning in that"
"Yet, he's the first one you mention" He finally turns his gaze back to me, and I can see the hurt staining his eyes.
"Hyunjin, that's not..." But he doesn't let me finish.
"You know what?" He fakes a smile, shrugging as if the situation didn't matter after all, "You might be right. This all was just the game talking" He chuckles, gesturing for me to let it go, "I don't know where my mind was" his smile widens but it doesn't reach his eyes.
Hyunjin turns away, ready to leave my room.
"Wait, Hyunjin!" I rush to him, taking him by the hand. Hyunjin snatches it away with one wave of his arm, "That's not what's happening at all! I don't know who I like, I don't have a crush on any of you"
There is a single thought running through my mind: I don't wanna lose Hyunjin. I don't wanna lose Hyunjin. I don't wanna lose Hyunjin. It's hammering inside my head, giving me a migraine.
"You don't look good in white lies" He stops, his hand on the doorknob, "So don't lie to me, 'cuz our friendship always meant more than that" He doesn't turn back to look at me, but I know his eyes are tearing up, because his voice is breaking.
"I'm not lying" I pray for someone to make him understand.
"That's okay, Y/N" He mutters, turning the doorknob, "We're good friends. You didn't lose me"
But I did.
Each crackle my doorknob made as he opened the door felt like a bullet to my heart, all carrying the same message: I'm losing him, don't let him go! I'm losing him, don't let him go! I'm losing him, don't let him go!
Then, Hyunjin closes the door behind him.
I lost him.
I stood there, frozen in the middle of my room, as the sound of the closing door echoed in my ears like a ghost haunting my thoughts. My bedroom, which used to be a sanctuary of our friendship, was now reduced to crumbs and ashes, violated by something much greater than us. The room grew insufferably bigger until it felt emptier than it had ever been. My insides mimicked my surroundings, and tears welled up in my eyes as I missed Hyunjin's heat beside me. Suddenly, I miss the winter uniform again, although for different reasons.
I collapse onto my bed, feeling the weight of my feelings down on me along with the reality. Through my blurred vision, I stare at the screen, wondering why this game had happened to me. Finally, I allow my tears to flow, soaking my pillow, which muffles my wails.
Was it a bad ending? Did I screw up my friendship with Hyunjin? Should I stop playing and go back in time, reset all of this?
I wipe my tears away, looking back at the screen.
Chapter's 1 Reward Unlocked: First Confession!
Status: Bad Ver.
Jin can't stop thinking about what you said: You might like someone else. Was it Reno? Did that smug, insensitive guy conquer your heart in so little time? Jin can't let this happen! Snatching your heart is his only way to take you back. Did your heart flutter with his confession? He hopes so but knows better than to force you into this. Perhaps, he'll have another opportunity, when your heart belongs a little more to him and less to that prick Reno. But that depends on you. Who'll you choose next? The future is in your hands.
I stare blankly at the gleaming words.
Slowly but surely, small pieces of a puzzle start to connect inside my mind. There was no good outcome to follow up on my choice. All along, Hyunjin was supposed to be hurt by the possibility of me liking Minho. All along, there was no way you would connect on a deeper level because I was meant to lose points. It didn't matter how truthful our feelings were, or how kindly we tried to expose our views.
The future is in your hands.
Whatever my future was, it wasn't mine to take yet.
Not without conquering it in that damn game.

You remember when you first met Narancia. Part of you wishes you could go back to those simpler times. Maybe then you'd be a lot less... stressed.
When you met Narancia you did petty theft. You lived with a relative of yours and you grew up rather poor. You still went to school most of the time... but you barely had enough money to eat.
That's when you met Narancia... a friend who also seemed to be in a bad spot. He felt that the best thing in life and survival is friendship... it's no wonder he befriended you. Friends help each other.
You two became close. Narancia helped you steal to get money and even knew your relative. You two might even be partners in crime.
Then disaster hit.
Your relative was caught and sent to jail. Narancia was set up and also went to jail. Now... now you were all alone with a dwindling food supply.
Soon you dropped out of school. You yourself ended up thriving on the streets. This was your life for years as you grew up.
Soon you yourself ended up signing up for Passione. You needed a job, you needed money, you needed somewhere to go. You were tired of being some sort of street rat.
By some means you pass Polpo's test and gain yourself a stand. This leads you into Passione... where you end up meeting an old friend.
Truthfully you both never thought you'd see each other again...
Maybe it was best you didn't?
Narancia was ecstatic when he saw you again. The other members of Bucciarati's gang were surprised when Narancia leaped onto you with childish joy. You yourself even froze for a moment.
There he was... once again... your friend. You can't help but sadly smile as you hug him back. It was after this you were introduced to the gang.
From there you thought things were rather normal. Narancia hovered around you but that was expected when you catch up. You two talked a lot and the gang noticed Narancia got less angry at times.
Especially during studying with Fugo... his temper goes down to a simmer when you're around eagerly listening to the lesson.
The gang became your family along with Narancia. For a long time you feel happy. There's always moments between the members, both good and bad, but you love it.
Well... loved it... things got strange with Narancia after awhile.
Narancia got more and more clingy with you. At first you assumed it was just him being protective. After all... now he knows how easy it is to lose you.
But now he clings to you as though you'll abandon him. Instead of being calm his aggression spikes when you speak with others. It scares you how fast he pulls his blade on people around you now.
It's as though he's scared they'll take you.
The way Narancia looks at you is so different now. His eyes don't hold that same friendship anymore. Instead it's drowned out with a certain darkness as looks at you.
You hate that he seems to know exactly what you're doing at all times.
You know something's wrong. You just aren't sure how to deal with it. As a result you end up distancing yourself from Narancia. You instead find yourself talking to other people, not just the people in the gang.
It only seems to bring more issues.
You don't realize how far Narancia's gone until he does something drastic. You see him come back from a mission smelling of soot and blood one day. When you ask him what happened...his answer scares you.
"Oh... well I was off on a mission for Bucciarati... then I saw a certain guy you've been talking with... then I got a bit... carried away-"
The thought of what he means scares you. As a result you instead close to the gang more. However... even then it's not enough.
Narancia doesn't even like that anymore.
Soon Narancia corners you in private. You already fear to be around him... but you listen because you're friends, aren't you?
"Do you like me?"
Not anymore....
"Of course I do, Nara, we're friends until the end... always have been-"
"No, not like that. I mean... I want to be your boyfriend. We've been through similar pains, haven't we? ... don't you want to be with me?"
"Narancia..."
"Why have you been ignoring me?"
You curse yourself when he pins you, purple eyes swirling with a certain possessive tinge. Your fear increases when when he tightens his grip. It's then you try to reason....
"Narancia, please-"
"Answer my question..."
"You... you scare me, Nara. You won't let me talk to anyone but you-"
"You aren't supposed to!" He sneers. "You talk to anyone else... I'll lose you again."
"You won't Nara-"
"I need you to be with me... please say you will. I'll do anything!"
"Nara, I can't-" You whisper, trying to push him away.
"What do I need to do? Do I need to kill for you? I've done it before, I'll do it again!"
You pause for a moment, staring at Narancia. He seems to caught up in the moment to realize what he's said. He only pauses when he sees you shaking.
"So that's what happened..." You whisper, thinking of when he came back covered in blood and smelling of fire. "You're a monster..."
Then you see Narancia snap.
"I've given myself all to you! Yet you call me a monster!" Narancia yells, his grip tightening. His temper flares and it causes you to cry a bit. You want to go back to the rest of the gang.
Narancia seems to notice your shivering and sobs. His heart pangs in guilt. He's hurting you...
He's hurting you because he's selfish...
He doesn't want to lose you.
You don't move when Narancia pulls you into a hug. His gaze holds a delusional glint as he holds your shaking figure against him. He loves you too much... too much for his own good.
Why won't you reciprocate?
"You'll love me, even if we have to sit and wait for it to happen." Narancia whispers, kissing the top of your head. To him, he wants no one else.
You two belong to each other...
He's known that since he's met you... this is fate... he just has to be even more patient.

The Mall's cruel fate, an unneeded existence
How odd. The fleshy mass Noone encountered in ch.3 is similar to the flesh walls we saw in the Tower, and yet...its existence was different.
The flesh in the Mall tried to give Noone whatever she desired. By reading her mind, it knew of the things she had and the things she always wanted, and yet…none of it satisfied her…because she could feel herself lose interest in it all. Noone had become disconnected from the things she used to love as a child, inevitably leading her to a very sad, yet very real realization...she was growing up, not necessarily in the sense of age, but in the sense that she had matured. The things she saw, the things she faced and the things she did to survive another day, both in her home and in that place of nightmares she was in, had finally begun to take its toll. And had it not been for this realization of maturity, Noone might have lost herself completely in all the wonders the flesh offered her. When the flesh attempted to find some sort of connection to her by pointing out the pendant it gave her, it was desperate to find any way of showing her it could give her a life where she could have everything, but it was precisely its desperation which drove so many other children away, it was careless, unlike the flesh we saw in the Black Tower.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unlike the Mall, the Black Tower resided in a place where it not only thrived, but was also in control. It was surrounded by various Residents as it consumed and decayed everything. The children(Mono and Six) were held inside it, deep in its spell, infected with escapism and surrounded by what reflected their desires. And while we have always theorized Mono wanted nothing more than a friend, resulting in him being left in a bare and empty room, it offered Six a room which not only contained the music box which soothed her, but everything a child like her would want, such as the toys she saw around the Pale city. Unlike the Mall, the Tower was able to accomplish the one thing the Mall struggled to do…trap someone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The flesh in the Black Tower was cunning, it hid itself perfectly while still watching Mono and Six through the televisions we saw all around the Pale city, planning its steps carefully and waiting for the right opportunity to re-obtain the host which wielded the power to help it continue to thrive, Mono.
And yet... when Noone encounters the flesh in the Mall, she describes it as being in a place surrounded by complete silence, there was nothing and no one around it, nor inside it, it was terribly lonely and she in turn could feel it. When she came along, it was desperate to keep her... but the Ferryman wouldn't allow it to keep her....but why?
Noone said the Ferryman/Candleman wanted her to open up to the "place" she was in...and yet...as she ran from the flesh, he pointed to the pendant around her neck, the one thing she was willing to take from it, as if telling her to rid herself of any and all connections to the flesh which now aimed to keep her by force. The Ferryman/Candleman wanted her to open herself up to the place she was in, but not to the Mall she had entered. As the flesh cried out, “don’t take her, not this one to”, we learn Noone was not the first child the Ferryman/Candleman had taken away from the flesh...but why couldn't it keep them? unless...what if maybe...just maybe....it was not fit to keep one. When Noone first entered the Mall, it tried to maintain appearances, but all around, Noone could see errors upon errors. The shops had nothing to display, the doors were gone, the movie in the theater, which she used to love, was out of order and unappealing to watch, and when it attempted to speak throughout the Mall, she could hear it slip, allowing its desperation to get the better of it.
Tumblr media
Many theorists and I have theorized there were always other living structures throughout the world like the Maw and the Black Tower, but we have only ever seen what had become of those which succeeded in dominating wherever it was they took root...but…what if this was not the case for all the others?, what if…there were some who failed? If the Mall is truly a living structure similar to the Tower and the Maw, and if it has truly been restricted from keeping any child which could take the role of its host, then...what if maybe...just maybe...this was its punishment for failing to live up to its existence.
Without a host, the Mall would have no way to thrive, and with no one and nothing around it...would it have simply been left to die? Warped by pain, growing weaker and weaker as time went on to the point it could barely maintain itself and appear as the mall Noone expected it to be?....maybe. We've always theorized powerful structures like the Maw and the Tower were extensions of the eye entity, and so long as places such as this continued to live and thrive, the entity would as well....but if smaller...more insignificant places proved to be worthless to it, then...what good would it do it if they continued to exist. The Mall needed someone...but it couldn't even have "No one"... but hey...its just a theory...a Little Nightmares theory.

Todays rip: 28/04/2024
SNES Mini Circulation
Season 2 Featured on: Now That's What I Call Quality!
Ripped by livvy94
youtube
With all the chaos and layers SiIvaGunner rips can often be under, its nice to cover something relatively "normal" for a change. There's all kinds of rips on the channel for all kinds of people, but universal appeal is not to be dismissed - SNES Mini Circulation is the kind of tribute that any fan of video games is bound to appreciate.
Well, I say that, but there is of course the elephant in the room - I'm sure not everybody you send this rip to will be aware of what Renai Circulation even is. And its honestly a bit of a shame its taken me this long to feature the song on the blog - like what I wrote about All Star in Shrek Days -Onions Ver.-, Renai Circulation is one of the big titans of mashups, perhaps not to the same mainstream extent as All Star has been, yet prominently althesame. I'm not sure if there's a proper meme-rooted reason for said frequency in use, other than it being a genuinely excellent song debuting as NicoNico Douga was steadily growing in popularity. Moreso than even YouTube, the platform lives and thrives on creativity and remixing, and I can only presume that the explosive popularity of said remixes bled over into YouTube - the end result, thus, being mashup videos like Everybody's Circulation sitting at 30 million views on the platform.
Truthfully, I don't know where this "everybody's" titling came from, but it too has been a part of the online mashup culture that SiIvaGunner took on, seen mainly in Season 1 rips like Everybody's Special Course - the "meme medleys", using a big party of sources to the tune of a recognizable core song. In that sense, then, SNES Mini Circulation is like a love letter in two different ways - a tribute to a huge pillar to the very mashup community SiIvaGunner owes its foundation to, and of course, to the part of the rip that's right there on the tin - The Super Nintendo, and SNES Mini console!
Livvy94 is one of those rippers that's been active since near the channel's beginnings, from midway through Season 1 to today - and both off the channel and on her own time, she specializes in Super Nintendo music in particular. I can only imagine how exciting the SNES Mini's release must've been for her as someone who's focused so specifically on the console for long beforehand - I can absolutely see where the wish to celebrate it would've come from! And really, beyond the fun Renai Circulation tribute, that is what SNES Mini Circulation is here to do - to celebrate the Super Nintendo, and in turn the vast variety of soundscapes under its roof. We don't get every game on the SNES Mini represented here, sure, but Renai Circulation also isn't an endless song - and I'm glad Livvy94 chose to ration out the per-game segments more deliberately rather than trying to cram in each game possible in it. Well, I say that, but we do also get a fun bonus appearance of Chrono Trigger at 2:26, whose bizarre absence from the mini console was a big talking point back before release.
But that leads into what's probably the main reason I love SNES Mini Circulation so much, all these years later - its just plain fun! That Chrono Trigger gag is placed right after where Renai Circulation uses a rewinding sound effect, playing off of Chrono Trigger using time travel, and the section itself pokes fun at Nintendo "forgetting" to include the game. Right before this, the rip is using the soundscape of Kirby Super Star, althewhile using footage from yet another historical relic of YouTube - the very first episode of Game Grumps, wherein the grumps played that very game. Little gags like that are pretty easy to spot, of course, I love when rip visuals are played with for comedic effect a la Goodbye to Love - but even with that aside, the energy the whole rip has is just downright FUN. Livvy94 displays proficiency with so many different styles of SNES arranging, from the Mega Man X sound I gushed about back in Guardian of the Ride Chasers to the more mellow sounds that made me fall in love with rips like Sog-Gee Ambiance, yet the rip transitions in and out of each section absolutely effortlessly.
Like, I find these "one-person fusion collabs" a la Staff Roll (SM64) Fusion to be incredibly impressive already, but SNES Mini Circulation just at once feels like it has so much fun and has so much confidence. For instance, near the end of the rip, EarthBound is revisited for a short Runaway Five performance, after the game had already being featured at the start of the rip, but its placed so perfectly to build up to the fast-paced ending, again a tribute to Everybody's Circulation, that it never stuck out as odd or noteworthy to me until the very moment I started writing this paragraph. Livvy94 pulls the whole thing off with such finesse, all just to celebrate her favorite little grey box.
And yeah - I love that she was actually able to release SNES Mini Circulation day-and-date with the mini console releasing! As someone who followed its reveal and release way back in the day, it was a great cherry-on-top surprise to see. Livvy94's passion for the SNES is felt in every inch of this rip, and it makes for the best launch-day present the console could've ever asked for.

Love and Leashes Review
Tumblr media
This may end up being less of a review and more of a rave. The plot was interesting though a little thin. However, I can easily over look that in a romcom with characters this charming and with BDSM this accurate.
For those that aren't familiar with this movie, let me update you. It's an office romance featuring a baby sub who mistakenly thinks his co-worker is a Dom and asks her to be his Master (master isn't really accurate but we'll let it slide as likely a cultural difference?). She is not but she is intrigued and willing to give it a try. So enters baby Dom!
Tumblr media
Going into this movie I naturally had some concerns. While at the same time excited because I’d heard such good things. I knew from the trailer it was a male submissive and a female Dom, which as most of you know, is my favorite combination. It’s rarely portrayed. Which leads me to my fear, because BDSM is already inaccurately portrayed in mainstream with a male being a Dom, how was this going to go? Were they going to make a joke out of BDSM or portray the male submissive as weak as they generally do with female submissives? I had trepidations but was still hopeful and then they blew my expectations out of the water. I have not seen a more accurate portrayal. I honestly haven’t. This was funny, real, sensual, and raw all at the same time.
Tumblr media
They did an incredible job of portraying Ji Hoo's submissiveness as something that is simply his preference and there's nothing wrong with it, even when others may judge him. I loved that they show cased the judgment that male submissives are often subjected to. I appreciated that they covered this not only from the aspect of how he is judged by other men but also an ex. We then get to see him blossom and truly enjoy being himself because of the acceptance of his Dom. He doesn’t suddenly realize he is actually a “Dom” which you sometimes see happen in movies. No, he thrives under the attention of his Dom and their open communication. That while he might listen to commands, he’s free to verbalize his likes and dislikes all while maintain a sub status.
Tumblr media
Ji Woo… My gosh. I adored her character so much. She is the inexperienced Dom who didn’t realize she was missing something until she started reading what a Dom was and became intrigued. Her quick ease into the Dom role, even if she is unsure about it, clearly shows the fact that this has always been who she is. She had just never been exposed to it to have a chance to explore it. Her willingness to dive in and read, to make mistakes, added a realistic touch while also giving her persona added charm. She made mistakes but the were ones that I've personally made myself, like don't use duck tape and picking the wrong location to try new things. She practiced roping on a stuffy!! Which yes, we do!! They made her real and relatable instead of some bad-ass who makes men cry.
Tumblr media
I would recommend this movie to anyone wanting an introduction to the BDSM world. This was a very accurate depiction of an established contracted D/s relationship. I loved that you can clearly see that couples are not "on" all the time like people fantasize and yet it can still be apart of every day life. That people really do live these lives, where we work and then come home to a imbalanced power relationship.
