Alright, I've finished book 3.

I think this sums up my current mental state pretty well:

Okay let's see, any parting thoughts...

Wen Ning is a precious babygirl cinnamon roll who deserves the world.

Wen Chao was a bitch, but damn that death was, a lot... I'm not sure how I feel about it, to be honest.

The marital issues are intense. Poor Jiang Cheng, poor Wei Wuxian, poor everyone in that situation to be honest!

So this is just straight up gonna be the one that breaks me isn't it? TGCF book 4 came close, but I made it. This one's gonna finish the job, huh?

Sometimes I just think about that moment where Lan WangJi realizes Wei WuXian has come back. Of how he heard the first notes of a melody he’d only heard in his dreams since what happened in the Nightless City. Of hearing the slight faltering of fingers on a dizi that meant the player was slightly out of practice, but the longing in the notes sounding the same. Of how Impossible all of this was, but wasn’t that Wei Ying all over?

Of how Wei Ying’s wrist felt in his hand, so different from the last time Lan Zhan had drawn a proper breath. Of how now Wei Ying was shorter, strange, but not a bad feeling. Of how much love the notes held as they cut off, surprise in those wide eyes he is ready to fall into.

Of how he realizes that Wei Ying was playing their song, the one he composed only for Wei Ying, the one only heard in a terrifying cave, then later on a lonely guqin until it was too painful for his fingers to strike the cords. He was playing WangXian from memory on a dizi he’d probably just made so that Lan Zhan could seek him out.

Only to find out Wei Ying wasn’t playing their song for him, but for fucking Wen Ning.

Just saying. Drunk Lan WangJi had a valid point.

#mo dao zu shi #Listen if you came back to life after thirteen years of being dead #and played a love song composed for you for Someone Else #That's not unreasonable jealousy #XD #It's no small wonder he never wanted Wei WuXian to play for Wen Ning #I don't think Wei WuXian ever quite realized the full travesty of that only recognizing the song later #Wen Ning is a bit horrified when he pieces it together though #Lan WangJi has forgiven him by this point because Wei Ying is honestly brilliant but also really That Dumb too #Wei WuXian may have also made it up to him after it sank in why Wen Ning was suddenly apologizing out of the blue #for something that happened when he first woke up #The Juniors were also there for that conversation though and they Never let him live it down #Lan SiZhui's second hand embarrassment for his first adoptive father was particularly strong #btw no hate for Wen Ning #I love that precious cinnamon roll #it's not his fault Wei WuXian is that much of a dumbass #meta and things
