I want to address one thing that I KNOW some people are going to complain about because they've already complained about if it would happen, and that’s The Doctor and Derpy getting together in the end. I understand the concerns. This is in no way meant to say ‘your abusers will eventually change for the better if you just say the right things to them’. This isn’t that kind of story. These are special circumstances that DO NOT EXIST in real life where the abuser was under MAGICAL mind control. That’s not who he actually is and when he’s himself he’s not remotely an abuser. He is safe from having a relapse, the curse is gone and over with because the core Discord was killed while the fragment left over in their universe has been reformed.
 Real abusers are not under any kind of puppetry or mind control when they do what they do, and no not even getting drunk counts as this because when someone is an abusive drunk they’re still choosing to get drunk when they are well aware of what they do when under the influence. If The Doctor did any of this abuse on his own terms, I wouldn’t have let them get back together. I’m an abuse survivor, I know better than that. When you try to compare completely fantasy scenarios that can’t happen in real life to.. Well, real life, you’re kind of reaching at straws at that point. Besides, this relationship wasn’t automatically better just because he returned to normal. Both of them suffered damage and trauma and both needed to navigate around it to be able to trust one another again. If there’s any kind of comparison to make, it’d be more like a loved one suffering a psychotic episode and doing horrible things they’d never do in their right mind. And some people are able to understand and forgive, while others are not. The pain of having a psychotic episode and saying and doing things that hurt people is really hard to overcome, it’s hard to trust yourself and it can be hard to make amends. But a psychotic episode does not dictate who a person is. It just doesn’t. And that’s the closest thing to reality this story is. I tried to handle this as best I could, because in my line of work recovery is the most important thing and I understand that someone coming out of a bad episode needs support and compassion (Unless they’re a terrible person in general) and there have been extreme cases where perfectly good people end up going as far as murder- even murdering their own children, but their loved ones are able to reason that they were sick and they are going to suffer great pain upon realizing what they’d done, and they are going to seek help. Maybe you wouldn’t be able to forgive someone who did terrible things in a psychotic state, and that’s within your right, but it doesn’t mean people who can forgive are any less valid. Listen, if a husband can be capable of not blaming his wife for killing their kids in a psychotic state (a very real event that happened rather recently, simply google “wife psychosis news killed children husband forgives” and you’ll find it), it's perfectly reasonable that someone can forgive someone who was under magical mind control.
If you are in a physically abusive relationship, you need to get out of it. The likelihood of this person changing for the better is extremely low, and you can’t cling to the idea of the rare few people who manage to work through these kind of things. Those are very special circumstances and in my opinion if there’s a relapse into violence after making genuine efforts to change, that should be the end of it once and for all. It shouldn’t be happening to begin with, it should not be tolerated. You matter, you deserve to be treated with kindness and compassion. Never let anyone tell you or make you feel otherwise. Please take care of yourselves, and DO NOT use this story as a basis for how to manage your own relationships, no matter how much you might think you see yourselves in it. This is fiction, and the scenarios in this story do not happen in real life. If you can’t discern reality from fiction, that is all on you, not me.

Okay. The Alex callout is so fucking wishy washy that I’m genuinely getting whiplash. When I first read Ven’s callout document several days ago, I honestly skimmed it because I’m the type of person who has always just assumed callouts are fully honest. And siding with the victims immediately is always a must, especially if it’s about grooming minors, or severe abuse. At that time I was also under the impression DB was a minor, thus I automatically denounced Alex Kister. However, last night I wanted to see any updates regarding this development and I’m so glad I saw Ven’s tumblr post before he updated it, because it provided vital information (such as reminding everyone DB is an adult during all this) and I was able to see people’s responses to it. I decided to reread the document with this new, updated information in mind and I’m very upset with how badly this has gotten. Particularly about how feeble Ven’s doc is and how some of the things they said rubbed me the wrong way. For now, I’m just pointing out some things that really stood out to me with how much it didn’t make sense or it was particularly antagonizing toward Alex.
So… in the tumblr post Ven made, they were saying that the point of the doc wasn’t to say Alex was a groomer. And yet they made it VERY CLEAR that Alex’s gender identity was, in their opinion, a way for Alex to “lure victims”. Basically calling a transfem a predator cuz she expressed her gender identity AND sexuality relative to her gender identity to her partner and not minors. but Ven was also backing up from that claim, which clearly was the whole point of the doc???? But it was never stated in the introduction of the document. So first of all, I thought that was weird. It just said “Alex’s predatory and manipulative behavior.” Here we go.
So. Apparently a content creator wanting to make friends and connect with people is parasocial? Sure, content creators have to be aware of their “high status” or whatever, but i think people are also weird for idol worshipping in the first place. Alex (which I’ve seen stated uses any pronouns) has been self aware about parasocial relationships from the beginning and he’s not saying he never was aware of it. 😐 but several screenshots of him explaining himself tells that he never even thought about the potential power imbalance— he wanted some fucking friends.
These screenshots would show someone expressing their discomfort and assert their boundaries. And Alex always seemed very genuine in their apologies and would acknowledge the person’s feelings wholeheartedly. None of it was brushed off by her in the screenshots. She never downplayed anything. And yet you guys are still offended???????????????? Let me get this straight. You want someone to own up to their mistakes and apologize for making you feel weird, but when they do, you’re somehow still upset? Hm. Make it make sense. Like what the fuck you want, blood from a rock??????
By the way, what’s transphobic to one trans person might not be transphobic for someone else. As a gender-fluid person, I’m not going to be pissed off if a different gender fluid person “”“changes their gender every day”,””” (i say this particular thing because I’ve seen people act very upset over it while others aren’t) because it’s not my fucking business and it doesn’t affect me or my daily life. If they’re comfortable and happy, that’s all that matters. I have no say in what other trans people makes them comfortable with themselves. What’s transphobic is invalidating another trans person’s gender identity, expression, and sexuality, (which CAN co exist by the fucking way) and demonizing it just because you don’t like that person or you don’t want to try and understand them. Just so you know. :) that’s like misgendering someone on purpose just because they’re a terrible person, or saying neopronouns are invalid.
Here’s the thing: when you’re exploring gender identity, you’re not going to get it on the first fucking try. From what I’m seeing in the docs, this was Alex around the time they were first stepping into that comfort zone. They were trying new things. Wanting to feel comfortable. Wanting to be validated. Wanting to connect with other trans people. That’s what every trans person wants. You seriously shamed her for that? To the point where Alex admitted they felt so ashamed of their gender expression that they lied about saying it was joke? All to reassure everyone and make people feel better? Fuck you. You don’t fucking get to say what someone should and shouldn’t do regarding their body and gender— he wasn’t saying explicit things to the minors. Not stuff similar to what was said to Ven or D8 so why the fuck is anyone tripping??????
I will say that I understand why Ven would be concerned about this in the first place since when they dating Alex, Alex did make sexual comments about wanting to wear their clothes and look like them. I get it. But Ven, you were his partner, obviously when you guys were comfortably having intimate discussions that he’d be willing to share vulnerable desires with you regarding gender identity woven with sexuality. But why did you automatically, outside of your personal conversations with him, try so desperately to search for that in his convos with other people? When they had nothing to do with you I understand wanting to be concerned and looking out for other people but this was so blown out of proportion that it’s insane.
Alex trusted you so much. And one thing I was really disgusted by was the creepy ass way of you posting screenshots of his sexual fantasies. If Alex does decide to post YOURS you sent to HIM, you have no fucking right to be upset over it, okay? :) fair’s fair, my dude.

So this screenshot being posted after Ven writing in the document “venting to a minor about his sexual frustration” all I have to say is Ven what the fuck are you talking about? being touch-starved isn’t Inherently sexual. Why the fuck is Ven saying this is sexual frustration. ?????????????????????????????????????????? So it’s sexual when it’s said to a minor? Oh okay, good thinking, Ven. /sarcasm. I didn’t know cuddles and hugs were bad. I guess grown adults shouldn’t cuddle their children, or adults can’t hug their child family members. Idk what to say about the “I wish you lived closer thing” tbh because i don’t know what the person said— it could have been taken out of context. Which brings me to my next point.
Ven stated there were people who came forward with their own screenshots of what Alex said. But if someone is going to crop them into tiny little boxes and obscure what the victim said before and after, it’s going to be pretty fucking difficult to even make a proper judgment on whether or not the context is inappropriate, or if it was said to the actual victim themselves in the first fucking place. Sure, the screenshots aren’t fabricated, but we don’t know who the fuck they were sent to. That’s on y’all.
Btw I’m so fucking convinced none of these ppl have ever experienced normal, healthy friendships or relationships, oh my fucking god. No fucking basis for proper judgment, imo.
One thing that also pissed me off was Ven targeting Alex’s mental health and symptoms throughout the doc. They targeted Alex’s paranoia and suicidal tendencies. First off, I’m pretty sure everyone part of tmc + the fandom know that the most prominent themes of tmc are SUICIDE and religious trauma. I once saw Alex post a tweet about various poetry written during his high school years venting his depression and suicidal ideation. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had been struggling with depression and suicidal ideation way before that. I’m gonna be so honest, after seeing the way Ven twisted a lot of this around, when I look back on Ven saying “Alex said he’d kill himself if I broke up with him” makes me think Alex could have said something like “you mean a lot to me and I’d be devastated if we split.” like. I can’t be the only fucking person who thinks this. Alex has always been self aware. I know he’s really struggling right now.

You either genuinely don’t know what paranoia is (symptom of mental illness) or you, of course, are genuinely trying to demonize an aspect of someone’s symptoms they can’t control. All to justify your bullying against Alex. Maybe research what paranoia is, and you’d be more understanding of Alex.
Mental illness doesn’t fit into your neat little boxes, by the way. And everybody experiences mental illness differently, so don’t act like you 100% know what someone is going through. I understand wanting to see the people you care about getting therapy and professional support. But you don’t have the right to demonize them when they aren’t being outright shitty.
Not to mention, every single fucking time Alex would explain their feelings and perspectives, Ven, you would shut them down in the doc. Invalidating Alex’s feelings. That’s the sort of thing manipulative people do, just so you know, Ven!! The same type of person you claim Alex is!!! Don’t throw stones in glass houses. That’s coward behavior, and projection is damaging to both parties.
Im gojng to be so deadass right now. If I could nitpick every single little detail in Ven’s document that I found weirdly uncomfortable or suspicious or confusing, I’d be making my own goddamn google doc which would be two or three times as long as Ven’s.
This entire matter genuinely could have been dealt with privately. Alex even expressed that and Ven shut him down!!! Do you know how fucking frustrating that is? And no, Alex never shut you guys down so don’t even try and twist the blame back onto him. You wanted him to own up to what he’s done and said, but y’all don’t want to do the same. Sigh!
Also, what the fuck is the takeaway supposed to be? Y’all said he isn’t a groomer. Ven said somewhere in the doc that people aren’t trying to be transmisogynistic. But clearly you are fucking using Alex’s gender identity against her. I hope you burn in hell. Also, since none of the minors were being groomed, what the fuck are you trying to prove?????????? That wanting friends is fucked up and evil???? That you and D8, grown ass adults who were consensually engaging in sexual conversations with Alex, were fucking manipulated? Evidence shows you guys were comfortable with expressing your discomfort and asserting boundaries, but like I said, y’all are still pissed off Alex took accountability. You’re adults. Act like it.
I could go on and on about this shit but these are the key points I wanted to bring up. I saw the post that donut made and I read through it thoroughly but since there is no evidence suggesting Alex was grooming minors, and he was genuinely apologizing for making Donut and other people uncomfortable, it honestly came off as a kid (kids shouldn’t even be in online without a fucking parent’s supervision anyway) being a kid: immature. So I genuinely do not give a fuck. Have your parents watch what people say to you online.
I’m a 23 year old adult who’s been in both toxic and healthy friendships and relationships with people and I can honestly say y’all are fucking stupid for even writing these dumbass callouts. I’m looking forward to Alex’s response and I will be supporting him unless there is substantial evidence showing Alex is a bad person. Ok?
Feelings and perspectives are valid and important on both ends. You don’t need me to tell you that. The point of this post is that the doc was very feeble and lacked proper documentation at numerous points. you shouldn’t purposely misconstrue Alex’s words and actions just to make him look bad, especially if your evidence (screenshots, in this case) isn’t consistent or fully exposed. I will mention what I said earlier: plenty of people here, from what I saw, were able to express their feelings and assert boundaries just fine and Alex was completely open, and whoever needed that help definitely got it. Despite everything that has happened, I’m glad people did have others who understood what they felt.
I may be editing this post if I find I think certain things need to be (re)addressed or corrected. Because like I said, there are various things I want to point out. Stay updated or not!

What nobody wants to admit is there’s a reason OFMD fandom has a big divide over how to interpret Izzy and it’s simply that Con is playing against the scripts.
Con DOES play Izzy like he and Ed have a profound warrior’s bond and their relationship was actually a positive thing up until Stede appeared and Izzy’s jealousy made him briefly go a little bit insane, but once he recognized that Ed truly needed to be with Stede to be happy Izzy was able to let go because his love for Ed is genuinely selfless. People who see that in Con’s performance aren’t wrong.
However this makes no sense as an interpretation of the actual STORY. The scripts write Izzy as someone whose “love” for Ed has been selfish and controlling and abusive (in ways that, yes, echo Ed’s relationship with his father) since long before Stede was in the picture, and is mostly based in the fact that he craves power and manipulating Ed is how he achieves and maintains a position of power – plus the whole deal has this creepy undercurrent of psychosexual obsession. This was obvious back in season one but there’s zero remaining ambiguity about it at this point now that the show literally had Izzy tell Ed “I’ve been terrible to you for years” and “it was me who needed Blackbeard.” 
The way he’s written, Izzy has to let go of both his ambition for power AND his fucked up crush entirely before he can stop obsessively trying to control Ed’s life and be normal enough about him to start building an even remotely healthy relationship, which the two of them never had before. Both djenks and other writers have said this in interviews - what Izzy needed was not to realize Stede was good for Ed, it was to let go of his obsession with controlling his boss’ love life entirely before he even COULD realize that.
This contradiction isn’t Con’s fault, or really anyone’s. If you’re an actor it’s your job to come up with headcanons that make sense of your character’s motivations even if they’re not super clear in the scripts, and the scripts do not focus all that much on Izzy’s internal motivations. (It’s clear from his interviews that he got only vague high-level overviews from the writing team about their intentions for Izzy’s overall arc too, which is normal for a supporting character - not only has he mentioned scenes where he struggled to figure out the motivation on his own, he didn’t even know the show was gay for four episodes, meaning the writers and directors didn’t tell him about Izzy’s gay crush on Ed, the thing he plays as Izzy’s core motivation!) And it’s usually a good idea as an actor to come up with an interpretation that lets you sympathize with your character. So Con went with the most sympathetic read of Izzy he could come up with. It doesn’t make sense of the overall narrative arc of the show, but that’s not his job, his job is figuring out a motivation that gives him a foundation for feeling like he understands Izzy’s perspective in the scenes he’s playing.
So if you pay the most attention to Con’s performances and ignore the narrative framing of the scripts, you end up with basically the canyon read on Izzy’s character. If you pay the most attention to the story the scripts suggest and mostly ignore the performance, you end up with the non-canyon one where Izzy’s a really really bad guy up till s2e5 and he’s manipulative and emotionally abusive toward Ed. Neither one of those is really “canon Izzy.” They’re both present in canon and they directly contradict each other.
This is what led to the fandom getting incredibly weird. Because people most interested in Con’s performance take it as the primary lens through which they interpret the whole show - but it’s an interpretation that fundamentally cannot make sense of the story as a cohesive whole, so they keep running into cognitive dissonance, and they try to resolve it by coming up with increasingly contorted interpretations of the entire narrative arc of the show (including parts that aren’t even directly about Izzy) and getting angry when other people bring back the cognitive dissonance by pointing out how nonsensical those interpretations are. 
People who prioritize the scripts as their main interpretive lens don’t have quite the same problem, because if they notice what’s going on in Con’s performance there’s an easy way to integrate it: assume that the way Con acts is expressing Izzy’s own point of view, BUT IZZY IS WRONG ABOUT ALL THAT. Izzy THINKS he really understands Ed but he doesn’t. Izzy THINKS his feelings for Ed are selfless love but a lot of abusers think that, it’s him lying to himself about his motives being benevolent. And the thing is, this angle makes Izzy look REALLY FASCINATING but also WAY WORSE than the basic read where he’s just being selfish, it turns him from an ambitious manipulative schemer with a weird little crush into a horrific obsessed stalker with a creepy daddy-knows-what’s-best-for-you complex about Ed, a grown-ass indigenous man who never asked his white employee to control his life “for his own good.”
It’s no wonder everyone’s fighting all the time.

Stay the Night, Stay Forever

Toxic relationships can mess up even the strongest of people. They mess with your head and your heart. It makes you feel as though you'll never understand love, let alone find it.
She has been in many bad relationships. She seems to just attract these people like a magnet. They circle around her, and she can't get out of the ring.
In her defense: they have all started out nice. It's after she gets comfortable that things go sideways. It's a terrible cycle. Maybe it’s her age, something about immaturity keeping her stuck here. Maybe it’s something to do with trauma that she can’t get past.
Regardless, she’s here again.
Working with the Redbull media team has always been a fun job for her. That is, when she’s not trying to drag Max by his teeth to do the marketing videos he hates so much.
Max who saw her boyfriend often since he’s a mechanic. Max who tells her constantly that he’s a “shit mechanic and a even more shit boyfriend.”
This year is a little different when it comes to Max and media because Daniel is back and doing stupid videos with Daniel is much more entertaining. It’s much harder to actually get things done with the three drivers now. Wrangling them is like herding cats some days.
“Have you ever really talked to Daniel?” Asks Max in an early Thursday morning on the way to interviews.
“Not really. In passing sure, but we’ve never sat down and had a full conversation.” She shrugs. The little voice in her head says this conversation Isn’t going to end well for her. The girl already gets enough lectures for spending time with Max, who is taken, and is forced to talk to her because it’s part of the job.
“You should, I think you’d like him.”
“Why’s that?”
Max leaves over and whispers in her ear. “Because unlike the scum bag you’re dating now, he would leave the kind of marks that feel good.”
Sometimes, she hates Max and his blunt personality. Mainly because he’s wearing a cheeky smile and she’s sat there fuming and blushing at the same time.

It’s after that conversation, that she notices Daniel more. The way he looks at her. The way he talks to her. The way he makes it a point to compliment her.
Then it escalates. He brings her water in exhausting long hot days. He’ll bring her food when she hasn’t eaten all day. The Aussie will randomly kiss her cheek for no reason and grab her hand to lead her if he wants to show her something.
The flirting starts in May. Daniel starts pushing the boundaries and testing the waters. The sexual tension is ridiculous and she has to remind herself that she has a boyfriend. Granted, not a good one.
The way Daniel flirts makes her want to pull her hair out. Because she wants so badly to take him up on his hinted offers. She hasn’t had real sex in over a year. She’s dissociated during it so that she can simply keep her boyfriend happy. It’s like she’s a means to an end for him. A way to satisfy himself and keep his needs met until he finds someone he truly loves.
Daniel seems so genuine. She’s aware she’s said that about all her previous relationships, but the difference is that Max trusts Daniel as well and she trusts Max (to an extent).
She spilled her guts one day after Max had helped her hide another bruise and Daniel had caught them in the act. Max, having had to do similar and Daniel being his person, knew how to help in these situations. So when Daniel opened the door to the driver room, everyone froze. The Australian simply looked like someone kicked a puppy in front of him and asked if he could do anything to help.
Max admitted he was late for a meeting with Christian and Helmut Marko and asked if she would be comfortable if Daniel finished up. She said yes despite every nerve in her body trying to get her to run away.
Daniel worked in silence. Then when he was finished, he got on his knees in front of her. Hands move to her cheeks and thumbs wipe away her tears. “I don’t want to push you into anything, but I genuinely have fallen for you. But, if I’m the reason he’s hitting you, say the words and I’ll leave you along or I’ll go fight him. Whatever you need from me, you have it.”
She told him everything. All the dirty secrets from the last almost two years had spilled from her mouth. The entire time he simply listened and offered some comforting words.
Three days later, she works up the nerve to go to the club with some of the Redbull team. The season had been amazing so far and she wanted a chance to revel in it at least once.
Was Mr. Idontwantyoutohavefriends happy about it? Absolutely not. He screamed at her the entire time she was getting ready and before she left.
But at least she's here now. Nursing her second drink next to Daniel at the bar. She hadn't had such a laugh in so long. The two of them are watching the other drivers present slowly descend into further chaotic dancing messes.
They end up dancing together at some point. It grants her the contact she'd been craving. His hands on her bare skin in such a way makes her breath hitch.
Then his lips are on hers. It's hungry, and she needs it. It's the most she's wanted something in so long.
"Wanna get out of here?"
"As long as it's with you?" She smiles.

By the time the night is over, it's the early hours of the morning. The room smells like sweat and sex. Her body is littered with marks that Daniel put there. They are marks she wants. She doesn't look at them with disgust, but with adoration.
Daniel had taken such good care of her. Helped her clean up. Then he said since they'd been drinking, they would probably need to eat, but he has no food in the room. So he'd run out to grab them something to eat.
That's when she looked at her phone. Her notification wall lined with missed calls. That is when she sees his texts.
The realization hitting her that she cheated sits on her chest. She has to leave.
The flurry of grabbing her things and writing Daniel a scrawled note only takes minutes. Her body runs straight to her room on a lower floor. Luckily, all the Redbull team got the same hotel. Unluckily, that meant it was a shorter trip to her doom.
When she opens the door, Mr. Iwanttocontrolyourlife is waiting for her. She drops her things like she's done nothing wrong and starts getting ready for bed.
"Where were you?" His voice is a deadly calm. His body leans against the wall with his arms over his chest.
"At the club."
"With who?"
"The other media team staff, Max and Kelly - that's it really." She lies. She goes into the bathroom and changes into a covering hoodie and sweats in record time.
He's tight outside the door again when she opens it. "Care to explain this then." He shoves his phone in her face, and her mind becomes static. Pictures of her with Daniel as plain as day meet her eyes.
Then pictures of them leaving. Pictures of them going into his room... "We're you stalking me?"
“I’m not toxic like you are.” He scoffs. “A friend sent these to me and said he wanted me to know.”
She wants to cry. Break down and pretend this isn’t happening. Daniel had said he would help her get out. He said he would keep her safe. But now, she’s not sure shes going to make it out the door with her life.

Daniel was already nervous when he saw her note. He knew it couldn’t be good if she’d gone back. Even worse since he’d promised to help her find a way out that didn’t end in violence. Though he would love to punch him in the face for what he’s done to her.
He doesn’t want to make things worse though, so he heads up to Max’s room to stop himself from doing anything stupid.
Max lets him sleep on the couch. They do go back and forth on a few ideas, but Max having been in an abusive situation agrees that it could get so much worse if they go to check on her.
Neither of them hear anything come morning. And for a week they can’t even contact her. It’s like she fell off the face of the planet.
Daniel feels like he might explode when Thursday comes around again. Double headers are tiring sure, but he has far to much energy to not spend it searching the paddock for any sign of her. Until Max breaks the news that she supposedly is really sick and will not be here the whole weekend.
He’s not sure what comes over him, be it anger or fear, but he finds himself storming up to Christian and demanding to know where she is. Max doing his absolute best to talk him down from committing a murder.
He manages to figure out where she is on the condition he stays put for the weekend. Meaning he’s in for the longest four days of his life.
He spends most of it pacing and trying to call her. Lando even mentions he looks sick at one point and forces water and food down his throat. How can he eat knowing he put her in this situation? Max keeps telling him it’s not his fault, but Daniel should have just gotten her out of there sooner. Screw no violence. He’d knock him out cold if that’s whaat it came too.
Finally the weekend is over and Daniel is dragging Max with him to her home. Max refuses to let him drive. And Daniel doesn’t mind considering Max is a fast driver and isn’t running on enough adrenaline that he could run a marathon and not be tired.
He’s out of the car before Max even has time to stop it. He’s banging at the door so loud he’d probably be waking the neighbors in the early hours of the morning.
When is swings open, He almost collapses in relief that she is still alive. However, she looks startled, surprised, and broken. She was never sick, he’d just hit her enough to break her. Her throat looks swollen with fingerprints tattooed to it. Her wrist is in a brace and a murky white bandage plastered to her cheek. And those are just the things that are visible.
He doesn’t have much time to think as the man he’d been wanting to punch into next year sidles up behind her. “What are you doing here Daniel? Did nobody tell you that we’re sick right now?” She cliches away from him when his arms wrap around her waist.
Max comes running a few seconds later. “Just came to check up on you two since we hadn’t heard anything and see if we could help.” The neutral smile Max puts on is for show. He’s deliberately trying to ease the tension.
“Well, we’re fine. Thank you for stopping by.” He goes to try and close the door, but Daniel is quick to deny him.
“Can I ask what happened y/n? What’s with the brace?” Daniel tries not to seethe but it definitely comes out anyway.
“She’s clumsy. Got dizzy and slipped.”
Daniel is shocked when it’s not himself who throws the first punch. Max’s fist collides with the other mans cheek. It sends him reeling backwards enough for Daniel to pry the shaking female away and into the safety of his arms.
“You came for me.”
“Told you I’d make sure he never touched you again. And I always keep my promises.”
Mr. Myexcusesforabusearebadandshouldfindanewhobby goes for a hit on Max, but he misses and falls face first onto the ground right outside the door. “As someone who’s had the ‘it’s just clumsiness’ excuse used for him before, I know what’s going on.” Max pulls an envelope out of his back pocket and drops it in front of the other guys face. “On behalf of all of Redbull, you are fired. hope you get what you deserve.” Max plants a foot on top of his back to keep him on the ground. “Is there anything you need before we leave?”
She had already packed. The stuff she needed had been tucked away for over a year. Thoughts of just running layer heavily on her mind, but she could never bring herself to do it.
“My place is yours if you want to stay there. I have an extra room you can have.” Daniel hadn’t let go of her hand the entire way to the airport. Or on the plane. Or on the car ride to his place.
“That sounds lovely.”
After she got settled, Daniel asked in she needed help with any cuts or bruises. Apparently she’d had the same bandages for a week. He’d probably need to get her into a doctor to see if anything is infected.
“Daniel… thank you.”
“For what? Sticking Max on a prick? No need to that me for that, love.”
“For everything then. Like showing me that I deserve to be loved right.”
“And I’ll see to it that you never doubt that again.”

thinking about nanami and touga both telling utena not to trust anthy at the end of the series. whilst nanami and anthy being friends is something that makes me bawl like a little baby and overjoys me immensely, ive never bought a reading of nanami post-32 that is anthy positive. like idk how you could get that impression when all she does is talk about how anthy is a terrible and dangerous person. she’s scared of her. and you know she shouldn’t be, but it’s understandable why a 13 year old living in ohtori academy might be scared of someone she already didn’t like after finding out something deeply traumatic regarding them and not having the tools to make sense of it in a compassionate way. and it makes me want to eat drywall
what’s really interesting about all this to me tho is how both kiryuus tell utena not to trust ‘the chairman/end of the world or himemiya anthy/the rose bride’. anthy and akio are a package deal of toxicity and harm to both of them and if that isn’t just the most fascinating thing ever. also the difference between nanami’s ‘chairman/himemiya’ and touga’s ‘end of the world/rose bride’ (nanami giving her warning during the badminton scene, touga giving his at the end of his duel. so much going on here wrt roles and settings and rituals and reality). but getting back to my real point isn’t it so cool (agonising) how nanami and touga are incapable of extending compassion or understanding to anthy despite the fact that they’re the two people who know the most about her other than utena and akio. and like. they don’t know a Lot, but theyve both had a smidge of insight into an abusive relationship that mirrors aspects of their own lives in myriad ways
idk something about the rose bride as a symbol who bears all of humanity’s hatred. and in the end all girls are like the rose bride yes, but key word here is like. an approximation; all trapped, all agonised, yes, but not all literally fucking crucified for eternity by a million swords that shine with human hatred. not abstracted in such a particular and insidious way. i always find anthy/kiryuu parallels compelling wrt issues of race and class and mannnnnn. nanami takes a step away from the duelling game. she’s not out, but she’s not actively partaking, not actively being exploited. touga, whilst a little more overtly involved in stuco business and still meeting with akio, does also take a step away. like, they’re both able to do that. it’s a bit of an artifice, sure, they’re still here, but oh my god oh my god oh my god. theyre not anthy. am i making sense can anyone hear me holy shit
i think what im trying to say is that for everything that both nanami and touga learn about ohtori academy and the people living in it, for everything that forces them to self-reflect and question the ground that they stand upon, they fail to break the chain with it. like, they too contribute to anthy’s abstraction. she’s an idea that they secretly embody/emulate (not sure which word works better for what im trying to say just yet), and not a person who shares experiences with them but is still wholly separate from them. this kind of compassion is like. it’s too hard, when you’re in the situations that all three of them are in. anthy too perceives both of them as nonhuman, but there is a crucial power dynamic at play here. how can you stomach such a kindness to someone you can only see as a poor imitation of the worst parts of yourself, whom you loathe??

I feel guilty: In some ways, I feel Hayley and the Mikaelsons set up Hope to fail. Now, with canon included, I think Hope did find her way - but ironically feel like her story should have been "Klaus, Hayley, and Elijah are what the remaining family tied to Hope but with the three dead - Hope is on her own, and having to navigate a world where she loves her dad but everyone is just as entitled to hate him and come into conflict with that". (Sorry, that's a long one). Basically because of how morally dubious the TVD gang (+ Dorian) could be - it makes sense that they know to separate Klaus's actions from Hope - but what about those who did not have that luxury and only remember a monster that was Klaus? I would use Tyler's story, but in a vague gesture: Hope needs to earn someone's trust after her father (or other relatives) brutalized them and has no way to defend or justify it. Essentially getting someone's trust for her as "Only Hope" and not the surname she's connected to. Or the more common arc, Hope realizing just because she loves her family doesn't mean she can overwrite the centuries of cruel history they left behind.
I'm not saying the Mikaelsons didn't love Hope, but Hope is unique (not just as a tribrid but the only living blood relative who hasn't been alive for a millennia) and had pressure on her that shouldn't be there. Hayley loved her, but should have warned her that living in a town that still had - living - people her dad fought with and hurt should have taken precedence over keeping a torch lit for their relationship. Klaus had his chance to be someone in this world, now Hope has to live in it and make something of herself - in his name or by herself.
(Sorry if this comes off anti. While I have anti thoughts and do like Hope, I think she could have stood to have a better characterized arc.)

I'll start by prefacing this and say that I haven't seen much of Legacies, I only know a lot of the show from edits.
But I agree that the show did a pretty terrible job with really diving into the cycle of trauma and pressures that were put on Hope since before she was even born. They were so focused on making Klaus redeemable and centering Hope around Klaus that they didn't allow for her character to have the development she needed.
I really like what I know about Hope's character and I even look past the wild hoops the writers had to jump through to make her existence possible. But for a show that centered around a magical, miracle baby, they sidelined her character a lot. The writers were so focused on setting up Legacies that they forgot to give the characters the development that was necessary for it to get there.
People love to say that Klaus broke the cycle of abuse with Hope, but he didn't. It just manifested in a different way. He never physically harmed her, but he neglected, abandoned, and emotionally harmed her repeatedly. This trauma is something that Hope doesn't even get to work through.
Hope at 7 years old seems more or less well adjusted. I think Hayley did a good job protecting her from everything. She missed her family in an abstract way because she didn't truly understand what she was missing. She had Hayley and Mary. Klaus allowing himself to be captured and held prisoner was the best thing he ever did for Hope. She was able to live for seven years safe and loved. I may get hate for it, but Hope was better off living as a Marshall away from the Mikaelsons.
I don't necessarily think Hayley was wrong for letting Hope grow up believing the best in her family. At that point, Hope was very isolated. She deserved to have a childhood without it being taken away by the Mikaelsons. But I do think Hayley should have had more conversations with her as she got older, especially if she was going to a school where it was likely to come up.
As soon as she is back with the Mikaelsons, her life once again revolved around what she can do for Klaus. I'm not saying they all didn't love Hope, but she was never allowed to just exist. The fact that she used to keep points when she was "good" or "bad" shows just how much she felt it. She had to be perfect because if she wasn't, she wouldn't be worth their sacrifice or Klaus might slip back into a terrible person.
I've talked about it before, but sending Hope to the Salvatore School made no sense to me. She was safer in New Orleans. She had her mother's pack, he vampires would protect her for Josh and Marcel, Vincent wouldn't let anything happen to her, and she had her mother. Hayley sending her daughter away to boarding school for most of the year made zero sense. I watched the first few episodes of Legacies before TO and I genuinely thought they all died when she was a child because of how she acted with Alaric and the twins. She desperately wanted a family, something Hayley had done a great job providing in the past, but sending her away to school made Hope feel neglected. She was already being neglected by Klaus, she didn't need to feel abandoned by both parents.
And, as you said, she is sent to a school that is run by a man who hates her father, in a town full of people who hate her whole family. She had to listen to people talking about how awful they were, and it was all warranted, which makes it worse for her. She didn't get to attempt to process that on her own. She had to do it while constantly being compared to her family. Alaric was always using it as a way to punish her. The adults clearly were not mature enough to separate Hope from what her family did and they had no business being in charge of her.
The entire terrible legacy of the Mikaelsons was put on Hope's shoulder and the show just ignored that trauma because if they didn't, they would have to admit that Klaus wasn't redeemed, everyone just moved on. So then the people who didn't just move on look like the bad guys. Alaric had every right to hate Klaus, Tyler would have every right to hate both of Hayley and Klaus. They don't owe the Mikaelsons anything, but it is also not fair that Hope has to take the brunt of their anger because Klaus died and got away with literal murder. Hope was a child and shouldn't have had to work to prove herself. She deserved love and support and understanding, like every other child. She deserved to have the space and support to sort out her feelings toward her family, the good and the bad. She deserved to yell at Klaus for abandoning her, to be angry at Elijah for putting that pressure on her, to be angry at her aunts and uncles for abandoning her after her parents died. She deserved to figure out who she was outside of the legacy of pain and torment her family left behind, but as far as I can tell, she is never given that time. All of this would have given her character more depth. Coming to the realization that her family were terrible people but she still loved them is a hard pill to swallow, but it was something she needed to come to terms with. Glorifying Klaus and erasing Hayley, did very little for her development except to play on Klaus' popularity for views.
I love the Mikaelsons but each and every one of them were terrible at being family and terrible people. Hope suffered because of this.

🎣Gon is naively friendly at most times and ready to help someone so he doesn't let the mistreatment he witnesses you enduring slide. Honestly, he doesn't know why those people are pushing you around like a punching back and bully you but he quickly steps in and shields you. There's a confused look on his face as he asks your bullies why they treat you so rudely since he has just recently travelled to this city, unaware of the person who is hosting a powerful demon inside of them. Even as your bullies angrily proclaim to him what exactly you are and that you're basically a monster, he doesn't understand them. He sees a person who is in need right now, there is no monster fox and that's why he tells the group to stop as he helps you up although you slap his hand away, not trusting anybody.
🎣 Soon Gon realizes that the whole town despises you whenever he catches you outside just coldly enduring everything since this is the norm for you. You look terribly lonely and bitter and Gon decides to change that. He's never been scared to approach dangerous people and you don't even strike him as one. He suddenly pops up around you and tries to befriend you. Obviously you reject him, perceive him as annoying but that isn't something that discourages Gon. He has a sunshine aura around him, sincerely wants to help you a bit by showing you that not everyone must hate you. You eventually stop pushing him away although you still ignore him. It's undeniable that he has started worming his way into your heart though. Deep down you do want someone you can rely on too.
🎣 He's so happy when he notices that he pushes through your shell, promises that he'll be a loyal and good friend. He spends lots of time with you but during this time his feelings change. He sees a side to you you're too afraid to show since you fear that people will use it to weaken you. You're utterly adorable though and he encourages you to let your feelings freely flow when he's with you since you can trust him. He grows more protective, exposes a more threatening side when he sees how people bully you cruely. Without a doubt he asks you at one point to come with him to a safer place as he grows paranoid with the amount of abuse you go through daily. He's sure that you would be happier with him too! Gon might even try to kidnap you as he doesn't believe that you would ever hurt him, not considering Kurama inside of you. If you have an amicable relationship with the fox spirit, Gon would grow to like him too.
Killua Zoldyck

🪀 He has turned his eyes away a lot from the misery of others due to his family but meeting Gon made him develop more empathy for others. He's completely unaware of the situation of the village upon walking randomly in it. He only knows that something is definitely wrong when he sees people shunning you out as soon as they see you. They instantly stop chatting and turn their back to you, some even call you rude names. It isn't until someone throws a rock after you that he steps in with frightening speed and catches it before it can hit you. You have a surprised look on your face before your face hardens and you turn away without even thanking him. Something on your face reminds him of himself when he was younger and he only finds out later that day what exactly you are.
🪀 Gon has been there for him and he feels like you need someone too who helps you to escape from your own darkness. Killua isn't sure if he can do that but he wants to try since he sympahtizes with you. He's less persistent than Gon since he understands that you don't trust anyone besides yourself. He just lingers around you and steps in when someone tries to harass you again, scaring them away. He doesn't see you as a monster since you're just innocent, he on the other hand has murdered people without having a demon inside of him so he sees himself more of a monster than you. Killua is weirdly honored when you slowly trust him and spend time with him. Most of the time he insists on spending inside since the chances to be disturbed here are lower than if you two would go to the city.
🪀 You are so much more behind that sheltered and stoic facade, refreshing and absolutely lovely. Killua can't help the feelings he develops with time for you, a darker obsession born out of sheer paranoia and protective instinct. He doesn't want to leave you alone since he just knows that someone will try to get to you again, stalks you when you want to be alone. His intimidation increases dangerously and the air starts suffocating one as soon as he catches someone trying to harm you. Believing that his actions are justified due to his love for you, people are bound to disappear around you. He tries to keep you isolated in your house until he breaks and embraces you in a tight hug, begging you to come with him. You shouldn't stay here, it's too dangerous. He tries to stay rational and not rash things when it comes to abducting you, he doesn't want to trigger Kurama inside of you. Especially if he knows that it would harm you if he comes out.

⛓️ During his pursuit after the Phantom Troupe, he stumbles onto the village where he meets the person that will change his life forever. He plans to stay a bit in here and regain some energy before he continues travelling. That's when he's hit with the gossip of the town as they feel the need to warn him since he's new. To stay away from you since you're a vicious person with a demon inside of you. Kurapika is not prone to fall for such rumors though. He doesn't even know that it's you when he walks around in the forest and sees you there. You ignore him for the most part since he doesn't distract you. When he sees you later in the city again as you try to buy something but are constantly rejected, he realizes who you are and helps you to get what you want. He's somewhat disgusted with the behavior of the villagers.
⛓️ He offers you to try to help you as much as he can during his stay although he understands why you're hesitating. He's not in the mood to mingle with any of the people in the village though now that he's seen their unjustified discrimination against you and finds himself hanging more around you when he catches you. He's not forcing you into conversations and lets you decide the course of the interaction. You two grow close as you mellow out around him and he softens up too, growing more protective over you. He stays longer than intended at first since he feels uneasy to leave you. It happens for the first time when you wind up injured because he wasn't there for a moment that he snaps at whoever did this to you and harms them too, you have to hold him back as he glares intensely at the culprit.
⛓️ After that he truly starts to break. Suddenly he grows overbearing, barely leaves you alone and refuses to let you into the village. He insists to buy you everything you need, makes a fuss over small scratches and dotes on you a lot. He's realized that he loves you and is terrified that you'll be killed out of sheer spite and fear by the villagers. He wants to take you away so badly, tries to guilt-trip you to leave together with him so he can bring you to a place that is safer and isolated. Kurapika blames the fox, even if you should have found a friend in him. He probably would have even considered finding a way to get him out if it wouldn't be for the fact that you're going to die if Kurama would be extracted from you. He stresses himself extremely out, more than you do, with the situation in the village and lashes out as soon as he hears someone sneering at you or getting too close to you. The fact that everyone hates you only worsens his paranoia.
Leorio Paradinight

🧳He might talk a lot about how you can have anything with money but it's no secret that Leorio has a big heart for others. He doesn't need to understand what is going on in this city, it's enough for him to witness how you're kicked out of a store you just went in and how people mock you and make fun of you. Leorio gets angry when he sees this, hastens to you to help you stand up before raising his voice madly against everyone. How can they just treat someone like this? He strives to be a doctor, has already certain knowledge and quickly checks the few bruises and injuries you sustained. When he dares to ask you why you're treated like this, you stare at him confused before you huff and ask if he's new here. He nods, a bit confused, and you just spit the truth angrily in his face, expecting him to fear you.
🧳Instead he looks at you for a few moments before saying that you don't seem like a monster to him, you seem actually like a nice person. The comment flusters you as you aren't used to such flattery. He honestly feels sick when he hears the talk of the citizens and watches how you're sheltered from the community. He's determined to let you know that there's one person who likes you though, spends more time with you and accompanies when you're in the village so that he can protect you. You're grateful and expose a tender and sweeter side to him you usually don't show others and that is what makes him fall head over heels for you in the end. He can't even begin to fathom why anyone would think of you as a vicious beast. This vicious beast might just turn out to be your sole friend too.
🧳The people in this place are clearly in the wrong about you. He grows aggressive and very verbal and loud at one point, shouts at someone if they made a cruel remark about them and if they provoke him, he might even be about to throw hands. He focuses on helping you to heal as good as he can too. He constantly tries to make you laugh by telling jokes or acting in a way not fitting for his age if it means making you smile. He's very sensitive so when you're upset, he's unhappy too. There's a lot of verbal affirmation together with caring gestures and quality times to make you hopefully feel a bit better. Leorio is normally not someone who holds grudges or despises someone but the people in here might just manage to make him go through all of this. He's very desperate to get you out of here, begs you to let him help you finding a new house and getting out of this shitty place. You deserve better.

🤎 The only reason he comes to this mundane village is because he has a mission. His target just happens to spend some time in there too so he obviously follows them and stalks them briefly before he goes for the kill. That should be it but he happens to catch the stories going through the village about how you're a monster since a powerful demon is inside of you. Illumi has to admit that this peaks his curiosity, he never heard about something like this before. He starts stalking you a bit and quickly sees how you're made the scapegoat for everything. Even his victim is thought to be killed by you and honestly, that hurts his pride a bit. You're a clumsy commoner, you could never pull out such a clean kill like an assassion. He wonders wat your true powers are though.
🤎 Your precarious situation catches his attention as he's somewhat fascinated with how much you're hated and jeered at. He admires you for never crying about it though as you instead swallow everything down. Illumi even watches you when you're home where he sees a different side to you, a side he realizes with time only he knows about. That makes him feel good for some reason, knowing that he's the only one who gets to see you like this. Due to his moments with you, he starts feeling weirdly possessive over you. He's actually glad that no one besides him knows your secrets and has seen your softer side. Having him turning obsessed and possessive means the worst or the villagers though as every bruise and injury you suffer is effectively like signing a death certificate.
🤎 People are suddenly found dead everywhere and the village panics and turns their blame and hatred towards you again. You're terrified since you know that they won't believe you, you even start fearing that they might kill you. Obviously your silent protector would let that never happen but he sees in your fear a chance to lure you to him. He's careful though as he still hasn't seen how strong the sealed demon inside of you really is. If you can control that power and would submit to him though, he's sure you'd be a perfect spouse for him. His needles should help in an emergency. Extracting the demon from you would end in your death so he's cancelled that thought out for now. You flee before things can escalate, no real attachment to your old home. You don't even notice that someone is swiftly following you. Don't worry though, he'll introduce himself very soon in the bluntest way possible to you.

👑 You've gone through so much shit in your life already as everyone hates you and wishes for you to just disappear together with the fox sealed inside of you. You've dealt with this your entire life, hold a huge grudge against everyone in this so called "home" of yours. Yet ironically enough when Chimera Ants start attacking your village and people are captured and killed, Kurama is the one who saves you. It's pure survival instinct and fear that unlocks a portion of the power you hold, something Meruem senses even if he isn't present during the attack. He later on demands from one of the foot soldiers to tell him what happened and they shake out of fear when they tell him that a human in a village attacked and murdered countless of the soldiers. Meruem tells them coldly that they should have taken you and for that have failed before he beheads them with his tail.
👑 Whatever you used, it wasn't Nen and that is bound to interest the king. There's another power besides Nen and he wants it. He orders his royal guards to search for you and also look into the destroyed village for clues. They return with the information that you have a demon sealed inside of you and Shaiapouf advices to be careful, something that ends in a harsh slap from his king since he isn't dumb. His inital plan to kill you are out of question, he wants the power of the demon and killing you might end in Kurama's death too. To his Youpi finds you and takes you to the palace, throws you in front of Meruem's throne as the kind demands you to tell him more about the fox and how to achieve that power. When finding out that you don't know how to get Kurama out of you, he imprisons you until he finds a way to extract the power from you and make it his own.
👑 He often demands your presence as he wants to talk more to you about Kurama or see a glimpse of your power. With time he eventually starts hearing your stories about how you were treated and how you can't even feel any sorrow for the villagers, you'd lie if you'd say that you have never wished them the worst misery ever. Your stories somewhat entertain the king so he listens to them. At one point he starts respecting your mental strength for never breaking despite all the abuse and that respect eventually turns into admiration and then into something much darker. Suddenly he wants you all the time with him to keep an eye on you, grows extremey hostile around Shaiapouf since the butterfly despises you for spending so much time around the king. The notion of you dying after extracting the Kyuubi suddenly isn't a indifferent subject for him anymore since he doesn't want you dead. The king wants to keep you.

Hi I still haven't gotten out of bed but I'm already fully armed and ready to shoot down anyone that tries to say Aziraphale doesn't care about Crowley anymore or WORSE, never loved him THAT much in the first place.
Crowley is quite literally his top priority, he made that very clear with how distraught he is when Crowley leaves. Why would he shout "Don't go!" "Crowley, come back!" and "I NEED YOU!" if Crowley wasn't always at the forefront of his mind? Why is he so visibly striken and upset when he gives him that last, longing look, begging for Crowley to come with him and be with him forever, before deciding to step into that elevator? When he gets in there, his entire purpose shifts. He IS going to make everything better, and he IS going to make Crowley see the error of his ways.
I can promise you all Aziraphale is going to stop at NOTHING to get Crowley to come be with him forever, as an angel. He is going to do WHATEVER it takes, now that he is the acting Supreme Archangel. It's Crowley he wants first, Heaven he wants second, and, sadly, due to the Mettatron making this offer, a life on Earth he wants last. And that sets up such a FANTASTIC conflict for S3!!!!!
Aziraphale, our beloved, fussy, STUBBORN Aziraphale, is now compromised. He is compromised with POWER. Power as the LITERAL, SUPREME ARCHANGEL. Is this NOT SUCH AN EXCITING AND HEARTBREAKING PROMISE FOR A WILD S3 EXPERIENCE??
Guys, we ALL know Aziraphale let Crowley down, but you have to see that Crowley let Aziraphale down in his eyes. Just as much. That's what makes this scene so tragic. We know Aziraphale isn't thinking the way we and Crowley thought he would, or HOPED he would despite how the world Didn't End. How despite everything in how S1 ended, he was still left with an uncontested sense of superiority that we were all too elated to see was something Left Behind within him.
This season brought all that stuff out:
"We will win of course. Obviously. Heaven will triumph over Hell. It's all going to be rather lovely."
"You were an angel once..."
"Why, yes, I am a great deal holier than thou, that's the whole point."
(after gabriel/beelzebub leave in s1) "See, Crowley, it's as I said--" (back to what he said in the Bentley in S1E2, how Evil always plants the seeds of its own destruction and Good will always win out in the end)
These types of thoughts, and him spending all of the 6,000 years he knew Crowley separating them as one inherently good and one inherently wicked.... guys, that won't just go away after only 4 years of being on their Own Side. We hoped it would. We wanted it to. But it doesn't make sense. Yes, even if the earthshattering realization Aziraphale had that Heaven never truly cared about what was Good did change his character and essentially complete his arc in S1... it didn't change everything.
His arc in S1 was completed when he learned that Heaven wasn't for him. That they never cared. That only he and Crowley could save this world. But this is where the show deviates from the book - Aziraphale in the book is angry. Bitter. Scorned. Aziraphale in the show is just heartbroken. He mourns for the only ever family he knew. He mourns what he always saw himself to be. That mourning isn't just going to go away after 4 years. What is 4 years to a creature that has lived for a possible billion before the Creation? 4 years on earth to 6,000? That terrible wound he suffered that day is still VERY much fresh. It's an open wound he didn't properly take care of. And the Mettatron noticed, didn't he? Yes, you can understand that someone or Something isn't FOR you, and know all the reasons why, yet still wish you could go back... it's how abusive relationships work. You confuse nostalgia with remorse. You confuse nostalgia for real love.
Of COURSE he would seize the opportunity to get what he felt he lost back. And HE could do it. HE has the power. He can make it ALL RIGHT again, everything he's ever wanted...
...and this is why he completely breaks down when Crowley doesn't want to be beside him to do it. Rewatch it. Look at him. Look in his eyes. The way he winces when Crowley kisses him. His internal conflict (Heaven/Crowley vs. Our Side/Crowley) is externalized through Sheen's brilliant acting. His arms coming up to embrace him, but they never fully commit, they just graze him and hover around his body. The way he launches himself backward, away from the kiss, but his body is still slightly leaning forward. When he brings up his shaky hand to touch his lips, and not crying. Never crying. Because he is an Angel, and Angels don't cry. Not like a Demon would. Crowley is all he wants, but now, Crowley doesn't want him. Not like this. Not anymore.
Because, well, Aziraphale said it, didn't he?
Nothing lasts forever.

She was gone. That was what they're telling him. The slave, the imposter, the whore he had brought in, have escaped.
A part of him breathed a sigh of relief, the other part of him wants to bolt out the meeting room to find her. His eyes do a one over at his uncle's, both with broken noses, both caused by her.
"Are you listening to me?" Alicent snaps at him. "Bringing strange women inside the castle is one thing, do you see what she has done to your uncles?" She chastise.
Jace fakes a sympathetic look. "It won't happen again, my queen."
Her face almost looks insulted at the title, but she should know, after all the rumours that she started herself towards his mother and family, he wasn't going to start getting all familiar and affection with her.
Before she could open her mouth to respond, he cuts her off. "Look, I understand, my behavior was unacceptable, but the girl is in gods knows where now and since I was the one who bought her in, I should be the one to find her and make sure she's alright."
He can hear Aegon's snicker and ignores him easily as he maintain eye contact with the queen. Alicent cocks her head at him as if in question.
"How kind of you to take accountability, but that won't be necessary, I've already asked my guards to track her down so we can return her to her owner, your grandsire's ruling is already in question enough with the whole Driftmark issue, we needn't any enemies from outside of Kingslanding."
Surely she had seen the look of shock and horror painting his face, as she gives him a provocative fake smile.
"Where is my mother." He asks finally.

It was during times like this that you wish you would've never agreed to follow Jacaerys back. Your breath quickens as you hear Aegon's footsteps nearing you, his heavy breathing, tiredness the wines must be caused.
"Did you hear what I asked?" He asks louder, his voice filling the corridor.
You turn your head slightly towards him. He's towering over you now. Dark confused drunken gaze meeting yours. "You going to my nephew's room?" He repeats the question, more quiet this time.
You nodded, knowing there's no point in lying. You were a rat trapped in a maze, with Rhaenyra's gentle hands no longer guiding you through the halls, you're out of lies.
He snorts out a hideous laugh that makes you frown as his face leans closer towards you. "What- does he needs to tuck him in too?"
It was a terrible joke or insult, but you oblige him by keeping your frown tact.
"Tell me, what is your relationship with him, I wish to know." He tries again, calming down at last. When you gave him no answer he rolled his eyes and shoved you by your arm, making your head bump againts the wall.
"You imbecile." You cursed him spontaneously, grasping the back of your head wile eyeing him cautiously as he walks closer. "Yes, yes. We know that, but what are you to him?"
You spit at his face. "I'm fucking him."
Instead of punching you through the seven hells like you expected, he suprised you by a loud laugh he seems to give around easier than expected.
"Oh and I thought you couldn't speak our language, or maybe you're just a quick learner." He replied sarcastically.
I learned that word from you,
you wanted to point out at first, but it was no point, Aegon wasn't a friend or someone she could converse him, just earlier that day he had made her his punching back towards Jace.
You brave yourself by trying to push him away, but his grip on your wrist was strong
He gives no reaction to your aggressiveness and instead pushes up the sleeve of your dress, cursing when he sees your brand.
"I fucking knew it, I already saw it but I needed to make sure- you rat, you little mouse, gold- digging whore, you snake woman incarnate-." It was getting harder to keep up with his nicknames.
All you know that his voice was getting louder and you can hear other footsteps entering the corridor.
"Fuck you." You punched him your free hand, the blow making him let go of his grasp on you, giving you a chance to run, something you learn to never hesitate to do.
There was something freeing in using someone's words againts them, along with the fresh reminder that you was no longer in a slave ship to be whipped or beaten for every wrong word or action you ever does.
You can hear him try to run after you, his drunkenness preventing him from walking straight, and the guards suddenly aware of your presence, alerted to catch you.

There were guards guarding every side of the halls near his rooms, too much of them that it was becoming suspicious.
He knows he can't go to his mother, for even if she's done with his grandsire, she's probably being held up by the queen.
All he could hope for is that Daemon will be by her side to keep her strong against that sharp tongued woman.
The secret back door in his room was always an option, but he's wondering where could you even be. What confirms you're even outside of the castle?
It was a gamble to check if you were at the first place you met eachother. But he'd take it for if it's not him that'll find you, it'll be the queen's guards.
The hood covers half his face as he slowly pushes the back door open and closing it back.
Once he made it out, there was no time to be relieved or take it slow. He slithers through the road of Kingslanding, shops and children with their marble stones and playing games, blind to his presence.
When he reaches the spot, a low sigh releases him, of course you wouldn't be here, you weren't that stupid to be somewhere quite easy to find.
He turns to look around him, eyes glaring at every corner violently.
Where would he have gone if he were you? That was a difficult one, considering you both had barely more than 3 full conversations, thanks to his stupid uncles.
You didn't know the hooks of these streets yet. If he didn't find you fast, he'd blame himself for whatever fate the queen would order upon you, for not only being an escaping slave but for punching her two sons so hard their noses kept bleeding for two whole minutes.
He was further away from the abandoned spot, towards the more isolated side of the streets.
Surely anyone trying to hide would opt for a quieter place. But you weren't just anyone.
He halts on his steps, taking a deep breath as he squeezes his eyes shut for a good few seconds. And then he turns around and walk right back towards the busy streets of the red keep.
Jacaerys prioritizes the shops more than stalls, eyes perking up on anyone that resembles you.
Begging his eyes kot to deceive him, he walks into the clothes-filled seamstress shop. A woman in dark large hood stands behind a cot of coats, distracted by the racks of gloves by her side to notice him.
He could almost feel his heart burst as he takes you in. Safe, and too distracted for his liking.
You flinch strongly before meeting his eyes when he's finally a few steps near you. "You're getting better at this, you know." He speaks quietly, a small smile on his face.
When your body relaxes and your eyebrows furrows, he continues. "Hiding, I mean. Good one with the change of clothes."
Your face gives up no expression but your hands immediately intertwining with his gave him a sense of relief. "It's not my first time hiding" You tell him, making his already pained heart hurt more.
Before he lets himself indulge in your presence, the loud reminder in his mind that your in danger hits him hard.
He turns his head towards the doors and windows to make sure no familiar faces were near.
"We need to get you out of here." He whispers to you, leaning in closer, almost shielding you completely away from sights of others. "We're leaving to Dragonstone tonight, my mother's promised you a safe travel in the ship-"
"And then what?" You cut him off. He looks blankly at you, as if not understanding your words.
"If I follow you, where will my place be? Surely no longer by your side?" You ask nervously. He opens his mouth but no words escape him.
"Jacaerys I am no meer slave, I have the blood of old Valyria in me and I am the last of my family, if you don't buy me from my slavers, they will hunt me down and they will demand a price be paid. "
He stared at you for a long time, you notice the shopkeeper stealing glaces at the both of you, making your stomach twists nervously.
Your eyes glances back and forth from her and the prince. He finally speaks after the shock passes away. "You could speak our language all along" He stutters in suprise.
You can't help it and let out a short laugh. "I told you, it's not my first time."
When the answer seems satisfy him he moves on to the important part.
"You're a fucking princess, good gods." His eyes were no longer staring a yours, instead, they look into nothing, he was all but lost in his thoughts and panic was surrounding him.
"Jacaerys please, listen to me- They'll kill me if I'm found, if I go with you what's to say I'll be perfectly safe, your words means a lot, but I see you do not speak for your mother or the prince consort."
His eyes snaps to yours once again. "I will kill him before he ever tries to take you."
The intensity of his words ran through the back of your spine, making you shiver at his all- in seriousness.
"Jacaerys..." You start again, gently. "I'm being serious-" "I'll marry you."
There it was again. The insane spontaneous acts of Jacaerys Velaryon. Promises he's been making to you that so far he's been keeping somehow.
Your eyes widen before they turn into a frown. "Are you insane-" He shakes his head vigorously before pulling deeper into the shop. "I'll do whatever it takes to make it happen, A betrothal to the royal family member must be enough time cut off whatever hold your slavers have on you."
You say nothing and only look up to him in amazing wonder. "Gods you are insane." You speak out softly. "Is that a good thing?" He asks nervously, his intensity going down.
You let a smile slip out of your face and nod.

I hate that people can easily find the stupid and shitty things I said and did over 5 years ago and jump to the conclusion that that's who I am, and there's no easy way for anyone to see all the efforts I've been making since then to NOT be that person. It's hard to find all my apologies and explanations because I didn't tag them all properly. I've tried time and time again to explain that I was mimicking the behavior bad adults gave me when I was growing up and that no one really called me out on that behavior until it was too late. I've tried to explain that since then I've been going through extensive therapy to separate bad learned behavior from who I want to actually be. There's so much more to this whole story than what one small chunk of the internet is making it out to be. People who actually know me know that this has been eating me up constantly and that I am always living in fear of losing everything to this drama.
especially since some of that info takes quotes out of context, jumps to conclusions that aren't true, or flat out lies about what certain artworks are depicting or meaning to convey (Like claiming a grown ass adult is a child even tho I have proof the character looks totally different as an adult than as a child, or claiming that a shock piece meant to make people reel back in horror was a fetish when it was not at all that)
It takes clips of things without the full picture and puts words in my mouth.
Here's a little something about how I used to talk about sore subjects: I would make a controversial sounding statement, but then I would explain myself in a way that would show the statement wasn't as bad as I was making it out to be. A lot of the time they just take that bad statement and paste it for the world to see, without giving any of that context of me explaining why I said that and why it's not what it sounds like.
I wish people were smart enough to spot cherry picking when they see it, but they just aren't. They'll see one sentence, and someone saying "look they're supporting this bad thing" and that's all they need to think that's what it is. People aren't smart enough to really ask questions and try to understand a situation, all they want is face value to tell them how to think and feel.
People aren't going to bother to listen to me because I'm "the bad guy" and I'll "say anything to cover my ass".
Listen, if I was really that horrible of a person, don't you think there would be more evidence out there that is very clear and blunt and not just making assumptions on what a thing means?
I'm never gonna sit here and say what I said and did wasn't wrong, it was, but it was not done because I was trying to be a terrible person or prey on anyone. It was because I was insanely misguided by someone who groomed me for 5 years since childhood and then abused me for another 3 in a really toxic relationship. And then I never got HELP for it, I never got therapy to cope with it, I never even realized until way later that 'holy shit this person was 7 years older than me and was taking advantage of me the whole time'. Like I knew they were abusive but adults being friends with children was so normalized in my head, and throughout my life many adults or older kids exposed me to things I shouldn't have been and it skewed in my head what was appropriate behavior or not. Or what was okay to draw or not. And a lot of my opinions were formed around this adult who convinced me things like loli/shota were fine as long as they were strictly made up, and he fed me a lot of nonsense about what does and doesn't make a predator to cover his own ass. I was seriously fucked up almost beyond repair for a long time.
I have a warning on my blog now that minors shouldn't be following me, I make it a point to not ever work with minors on projects or talk to a minor in any capacity beyond a fan to artist relationship. I understand now that it is my responsibility as a NSFW artist that I simply cannot have minors as friends. And being much older now I don't even want minors as friends anyway. When I was in my early 20s the age gap didn't feel as bad but I'm definitely feeling it now and I just don't want to deal with minors any more.
I'm not a danger to anyone, I'm not spewing apologetics for horrible people, I've been doing my best to be a much better and more informed person
And I have no easy way to prove any of it in a way that will matter
I'm only talking about this now because once again I was kicked out of something because someone found that old info and that was all it took. No one cares about my side of things.
And I don't know if this will ever go away
I don't know if I'll ever find any amount of comfortable success because I can't get rid of this shit and on the internet it doesn't matter how long ago you did something or how much you've changed, you did it and therefor you're bad forever.
I hate this shit so much.

More of me running my mouth about music as inspiration except this time its just Dear Wormwood
Prelude. Prelude. PRELUDE. This is probably just a music nerd thing but its so perfect. Despite my horrible understanding of music theory, a prelude is usually the first piece of music that is meant to represent the succeeding and usually longer movements in a single work, but they could also stand alone. The Prelude to Dear Wormwood works as both. It starts out quiet before building up with just absolutely amazing wordless vocals and its just so great folks. Its a summary of the whole album in a minute and nine seconds its amazing folks
Okay Bitter Water. The first time I heard this one I thought oh, its a metaphor for alcoholism. Yes, it can be a metaphor for alcoholism, but it is also so much more. In the broader context of Dear Wormwood its an acknowledgement of how bad a relationship is and that the singer, the victim, feels like they can never escape it, but it can be so much more folks. It can be a about a love lost, with the one who lost the love pining and wasting away without their soulmate. Said soulmate could be a part of the griever themself. It can be so much. Its also a banger but thats a given for the whole album. “terrible fire of old regret is honey on my tongue” is also eternally amazing this whole thing is poetry mates
There Beneath. Calm and flowy and existential kind of but I make a lot of things existential and where were we? But also the line “I saw the morning lead a cavalcade” is bloody amazing. Its such a great and poetic way to describe the breaking dawn, the rising sun, the beginning of a new day and so many other things mates its amazing. Like a veteran adventurer recalling the times when their friends got them out of hard scrapes or something idk
In the Blue Hours of the Morning. It’s a nice waypoint, a chance to catch your breath before the next song which I will go off about but this bit is really just like its title. The time before the cavalcade, when theres still enough light to see by yet its so calm and still and not quite awake yet
Exeunt, which is. It is. Well, exactly what it says on the tin, an exeunt, which is a stage direction for when an actor goes off stage, but its also the most poetry ever. Everyone loves “Fluttering your lashes like ashes and ember” and rightfully so but everything in that song is so bloody strong. “Crocodile eyes I have seen how you hunger”???? “No I cannot trust what you say when youre grieving”????? Like its such a powerful song with all the musicians going ham on the everything and then the lyrics and then the context? Its great its just great
Caesar. A calm follow-up to the headbanger that is Exeunt, but its no less amazing. Im just drowning in symbolism for this one mates. Not only is the morning back and breaking over a palisade but also historical references!?! The backlogs of random anecdotes and stories are tickled awake by the “Look to the sky where the sign will be shown” bit so much like it aint even funny. Its a reference to Constantine the Great, who saw the symbol of the Chi Rho and went on to become roman emperor with it painted on his shields and its so much potential in just three stanzas
This Will End. Fellows this one just hurts. Its so bloody sad and yet such a strangely jaunty tune like the singer has just accepted their sad life and Im always like no! It can get better! You just gotta try a bit! Mates! Im bleeding out!
Pale White Horse. Ohhhhhhhhhh I can get so deep about Pale White Horse but so much of it is about WWI and the Spanish Flu Epidemic and other stuff I do not care to dredge from the depths of my historical brain fluids but its so great as a thing about war and trauma and abuse and so much other stuff just like recognizing someone doing something terrible and that can be either interpreted as oh thats conformation that they were always terrible or oh goodness thats not possible why no why are you like this you are not like this right and there’s no in between. And both hurt!
Where Is Your Rider. Enough metaphors to fill a graveyard (hey Crane Wives fans. Hey. Did you get it? Eh? Idk I thought it was funny) and then some but also oooooh the lines just go so hard sometimes. “But these bones never rested while living / So how can they stand to languish in repose”???????? Like mate youre dead but youre still going to push on and keep on fighting mates it hurts it hurts too much there are too many characters and situations and just stray thoughts I can peg to these two lines alone help
Soldier, Poet, King. Need I say more? Yes, I need to say more. Everyone above and below knows how bloody legendary this song is but take this as a sign to listen to it again. Its just that good. Someone once tired and broken who has found support and is coming back to finish the job they couldnt finish on their own is just oooooooooooooogh mates. Also funny ha ha DND party. Two sides of the same polyhedral dice. Probably a d100 with all the nonsense I can drag out of it at this point.
Dear Wormwood. The album namer. UGH I cannot get enough of this one. Just some of the lines in this one mates. “And in my hour of weakness / You were there to see me fail”???????? “I know who I am now / I know who I wanna be / I wanna be more than / That devil inside of me”??????????????????? Its just so perfect and so amazing and it gives you a warn hug and it punches you in the gut and it helps you up and gives you hot tea and the works mates its just so great
Danse Macabre. One last instrumental. A Danse Macabre was usually a piece of art with people dancing next to skeletons, representing the inevitability of death and the equality in the grave and so many other sad and mopey things but also its just such a fun jig. It really does feel like a bunch of spooky scary skeletons jamming on their graves. And that’s a one liner I never thought Id need to write.
Thus Always to Tyrants. Bloody hell this is the perfect ending song. The singer immediately starting off with “Let me die, let me drown, leave my bones in the ground”, proclaiming themselves free of the worries and pains they started the album with, singing as the blazing sun rises that yes, they are, if not happy now, then at least better now, and that anyone who threatens that will face the new and improved them is just ooooooogh. Mates. If theres one song you need to listen to if you somehow made it to the end of this thingie without also being obsessed with the Oh Hellos, its Thus Always to Tyrants. But please listen to the whole of Dear Wormwood first. It makes the impact so much better.

In "Hellfire" Frollo imagines Esmeralda floating closer to him so he can grab her. In "Look My Way" Stolas imagines Blitz pulling away from him.
Frollo: Would rather kill Esmeralda than let her go. Would never admit he's in the wrong.
Stolas: Admits what he did was wrong, wants to make amends. Is letting Blitz go.
You: omg they're exactly the same! 🤓
No. He isn’t actually letting him go. Plus, the parallels are definitely there. This isn’t coming from nowhere.
In the imagery they float towards him then pull away or vanish. While the man is moaning and reaching his arms out to grab.
both men hold themselves in incredibly high regard, they think they’re the only victim in any scenario, thinking that they have been an angel to everyone around them all this time according to their duties, despite how they abuse and hurt those they see as beneath them. and now they encounter this ‘new kind of passion’ that they can’t possess forever, and they can’t handle it. They’ve lost sight of everything actually important in their lives, to chase tail. Lamenting over this fact but still not stopping it. They think the peasant entertainer and object of their lust “sated for my dark temptations” in the lower class they see as inferior, is just out of their grasp. When he says “i don’t care you’re of lower station” that is yet again another offscreen development. If he wasn’t of lower station he wouldn’t be enslaved to be stolas’ pet by Paimon and blitz wouldn’t have needed to steal the book.
Frollo similar in some ways and in other ways different to stolas, presents Esmeralda a choice between him or the flames, like stolas is presenting blitz with a choice between the crystal and the book. Frollo is talking about death which is obviously worse, but both of these men are too selfish to just leave the person the fuck alone without mind games attached. They also both mention granting the object mercy “god have mercy on her god have mercy on me” and “i must grant you this one mercy” but he still says “what will i have if i cant have you?” And if that’s included in his rant next episode, then that’s manipulation. Stolas is practically on the level of “I’ll hurt myself if you try to leave but if I’m so terrible fine, just go”
So he has to admit the full moon thing was wrong, which means…,that it was coercion. It was not consensual. But none of this development happens onscreen he just wakes up after a drinking session, cries and sings. We just see a flashback and I’m not sure what is being said, is he remembering things? Does he see that blitz never had a choice back then or now? We never know. Stolas doesn’t understand consent, and we never see him in a conversation with someone about it, it’s just a once off line by Asmodeus. Actually both times, stolas needed to be reprimanded by Asmodeus, a more powerful demon, in order to wake up to how he’s been…behaving. Whatever that’s supposed to be. Interesting.
And even though i know Viv is writing Blitz to say “no it’s fine I don’t mind it I like being used” that’s clearly not true and a retcon against every single appearance he’s had up until this point. Every single time he’s resisted his advances is being framed as a personal flaw in him, because he “can’t admit he secretly wants it” or maybe she’s going for “his body wants it but his mind doesn’t” rather than placing blame on the person preying on him. He uses him back. Ok. I don’t blame him for it at all when he’s a child. That just wasn’t his fault. But as an adult breaking into the palace for an unknown reason honestly, was just stupid of him, but mostly, stupid writing. But blitz used the object to help fund Millie moxxie and Loonas lives so honestly? I don’t care that much, stolas can cry to his palace servants about it. These two actions aren’t equal.
That’s why this shouldn’t become a relationship. Ever. It’s. Even more proof of that.
If he admits the full moon thing was unmerciful he’s admitting that Ozzie was right and the lust was about force all along. Do you realise what forced lust is? Viv just isn’t a brave enough writer to accept the story she and others have created and not romanticise it, all so they can make more merch sales and not upset the ship fandom on Twitter. There are a million other ways she could’ve handled it—say that the instagrams are an AU and keep making them so the shippers don’t riot, create a stolitz AU webcomic or something, have them end the “relationship” in a non serious but comedic way, where both are happy, instead of dramatic, or see them fall in love separately with other, nicer characters to redirect the audience attention.
I don’t even know what he could add to the story beyond this thing ending. I’d be happy to see him leave for good, and I don’t mean die, i just mean yknow, take a bow and leave with Octavia to somewhere new. He has no relationship to anybody in the main cast beyond this forced contract, no chemistry with really…anyone other than Stella Andre and Via, and those three have nothing to do with IMP.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians episodes one and two, immediate impressions
Written by someone who absolutely lived those books as a kid and is no less obsessed with them as a grown up.
I will try to avoid spoilers for anything that comes later in the book or in later books in case people who have only watched the show will be reading this, but there might still be unintentional spoilers and there definitely will be spoilers for how the event of the first two episodes went down in the book.
I have been waiting since before the old movies came out, suffered the disappointment of their existence, was part of the collective agreement Lightning Thief had no sequel and am finally ready to see them try again.
I have just finished re-reading the first series and am nearing the end of House of Hades, so all the book stuff is fresh in my mind.
(I also bough the first five and all five Trials of Apollo for only £12 yesterday 🎊🎊🎊 now my tiny London apartment is flooded with books I already have no space for 🤣🤣🤣 so worth it though.)
Episode 1
- seems lovely so far;
- Percy is perfectly himself and the acting is damn decent;
- Little Percy is very cute, but also sort of spooky, make me think of the ocean, no matter what, there is always something eerie about it;
- Nancy is as awful, as she has to be and it is a nice thought that Percy understands she bullies him because of her own issues, yet also acknowledges it is still not okay;
- Brunner is perfect, they nailed his feel and presence 10/10. Why is his horse part not white though? Come on, it doesn’t have to match his skin tone and would have looked super cool, setting him apart from other centaurs like it does in the books;
- The kindly one (what they call Furies in the book) is well done and properly terrifying;
- Sally Jackson is the star, seriously, she is everything;
- Smelly Gabe is authentic enough to smell him trough the screen;
- Super funny that his reward for letting them take the car in the show is a sandwich he never ends up getting at all. At least in the books he got his dips
- BUT!!!!! Wtf with Gabe saying please? And them watching the game together? Why is he suddenly not that terrible??? How could they have decided to give redeeming qualities to this guy??? He is like the definition of awful and there really was no need to make him better in any way.
Initially I did not particularly notice this, because he was disgusting in my eye, yet upon watching for the second time, I replied he repeatedly said please and his conversation with Sally seemed suddenly more like banter than the awful way he treated her in the books. This gives their marriage something to it and makes it feel like there might have been a reason why they got married other than Sally wanting to protect Percy though Gabe's smell. And that is just wrong. Gabe was absolutely the king of awful in the books and he should have stayed that way.
I felt like I had to go back to add this point, because I missed it in my initial watching when I was writing this immediate reaction.
It can be argued that even the worst abusers are not horrible 24/7 and are ofter nice to the people around them from time to time, which makes it even more confusing and hard to leave them. But this does not really fit to the situation here, Gabe had zero redeeming qualities in the book and I can't see why there would be a need to give him any in the show;
- Sally being firmly on Percy’s side is pure gold and absolute parenting goals;
- Blue candy !!!!
- D’Angelo sandwiches though??? Hmmm…
- “Who is Yantsy?” 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Gabe is so dumb, i love it;
- Hades is not satan, they finally got that right! At least I think that’s supposed to be Hades;
- Can’t stress enough how awesome it is that Percy is not an orphan in the books. His relationship with Sally is everything. It is also a whole lot less lazy than just having an orphaned protagonist and also a lot more relatable for the readers;
- I love the scene where Percy is confused and scared, trying to get her to stop, but Sally keeps talking, as if she knows if she does not say it out loud, she will never be able to;
- Sally: “He was a god.” Percy: “You fell in love with Jesus?” 🤣🤣🤣
- Grover is so funny though, I can’t even;
- The Minotaur cgi looks decent;
- And he is wearing underpants!!!
- Bye-bye Gabe’s car;
- Grover is supposed to be unconscious!!! That’s a major point of his later self-torments, the fact that he got knocked out and Percy had to carry him all the way.
I cannot see why he needed to be present for this scene. He doesn’t do much of anything other than having Sully make him swear to protect Percy, although I am not certain what that was emphasised for?
- Sally is badass! Hell yeah for mothers doing mad stuff to protect their babies, super on point and as someone who does have a baby, super realistic;
- Noooo!!! Sally!!! Proper heartbreaking;
- He did not have the sword yet! Or Grover there! And he fought the Minotaur anyways!!!
It was supposed to be the first sing of his endless courage bordering on idiocy and a serious lack in the self preservation department when it comes to people he loves being in danger.
Which ultimately is a super important point in the story. I feel they missed an opportunity to show just how many fucks are absolutely not given when Percy sees somebody dear to him threatened;
- He does still kill him with the horn, not the sword, so I guess I can forgive the sword being there for a brief second. Although it would certainly add more meaning if it wasn’t;
- Show us how he carried Grower to Camp after killing the Minotaur!!! Percy did it all on his own, no help whatsoever! That’s part of what made other campers so interested in him!
- Annabeth!!! My best girl!!!
Episode 2
- Percy’s eyes are so book accurate, a proper proper sea green, I am happy happy happy;
- And Walker is such a perfect fit for the role, it really feels like he is Percy. I can forgive them for not having someone else, who had dark hair, his casting in on par.
Also I feel like nailing his eyes is more important than hair. They are an important part of the character, a reflection of his connection to the ocean.
I can also completely get behind not immediately wanting to dye a child’s hair, so it’s not that important.
I am personally of the opinion, that unless a character’s appearance is a point in the plot, such as relation to a certain someone hinted at trough similarity in looks/belonging to a certain group/coming from a certain place/being singled out positively or negatively because of certain features/etc, changing it doesn’t matter;
A good example is the colour of Percy’s eyes. It needs to be maintained, as they are a reference to his father being Poseidon and him being a child of the sea;
- The same goes for Leah, she has absolute Annabeth energy and is just perfect every step of the way, so the fact that she ain’t blonde doesn’t really matter. It was not a particular plot point in the books and the change will not affect her character in any way;
(If Elle Woods suddenly wasn’t blonde anymore, that would be insane, in Annabeth’s case, it is not that important.)
- Aww, Percy thinks Poseidon is going to be there at camp, that’s heartbreaking :((
- Peter Johnson !!!
- ‘He’s starting with me!’
- For a moment I thought he was gonna say ‘the wine dude Dionysus’ 🤣 that would hardy have ended well;
- ‘Your Highness’ 🤣🤣🤣 Percy is adorable;
- Mister D pretending to be Percy’s dad and trying to get him to fetch a bottle of wine is sooooo funny, I died. Chiron’s face though… 🤣🤣🤣 ‘I could be!’ ‘But are you?!’
And this:
- ‘Son.’
- ‘Dad?’
- ‘Yes Peter!’
- ‘Percy!’
- ‘Exactly’
- And Percy looking at Mr D and thinking: ‘Mom fell in love with and spoke so highly of this guy? He is basically Divine Gabe.’
I will be anything upon first meeting him in the show and hearing the ‘i am your dad’ thing, that is exactly what Percy is thinking. ‘Oh no, my dad is the Less Smelly Gabe?‘
- The Hermes cabin is looking good, the chaos seems very authentic;
- As someone who had been bullied at school for different from other kids, it is a very touching moment, when Percy is sure the Hermes kids are about to start some trouble, but Luke is just so lovely to him instead.
It is honestly every weird kid’s dream to have someone approach them with something kind to say.
And when he says: ‘you are just like everyone else here’, it must have felt so nice for Percy to finally hear something like that, like there is somewhere he can belong as himself;
- Luke, my sweet tragic baby ❤️ i cannot help loving him so damn much;
His underlying wistfulness and hidden pain from not feeling loved by his dad break my heart into a million pieces. And the way he just older-brothers Percy from the beginning is everything ❤️
- But does this show hate blonde people?
Cause Luke isn’t blonde either. 🤣
Once again, great acting, charisma and that feel of Luke’s powerful awesomeness tinted with desolate melancholy was captured brilliantly.
Charles does have that vibe and is great in the role. But I just had to note the ‘nobody is blonde’ thing cause it’s funny;
- More importantly though, WHERE IS LUKE’S SCAR??? That little scrape he’s got on his face is way too small and insignificant to be the unfortunate trophy from a dragon fight.
It looks nowhere near ghastly enough!
The whole point was that Luke was super handsome, but his scar was there like a tear in a beautiful portrait.
Charles is a good looking fella, he could have easily pulled off having a huge scar running across half of his face and still be a ladies’ dream;
- The Dryad with Grover has such sweet motherly vibes;
- Is it me or do Grover’s goat legs appear somewhat skinny?
- ‘Like an old banana’ Damn, Grover. I feel like this nicely reminds everyone Grover is not the human child he appears as;
- I feel like it is more realistic that Percy comes to believe his mother can be saved from the underworld by himself, since it is pretty logical, if the underworld is a place you can go to, you could theoretically bring someone back.
There didn’t really need to be an ominous investigation conducted by Grover for Percy to come upon that idea;
- More creepy ass dreams;
- CLARISSE MUST BE BUFFER!!!
And here I somewhat don’t get it.
Cause Dior looks perfectly buff enough for the part in pictures online, but it almost feels like they made her look smaller on camera, instead of using filming techniques to make her look even bigger.
All I could think while watching those scenes was “Clarisse must be bigger!”. Why does she look so skinny in the show, when the actress has got proper muscles irl?
- Percy being terrible at everything he tries reminds me of Harry trying the wands out and making stuff blow up
- He set the Hephaestus kids’ stuff on fire 🤣🤣🤣 Leo should have been there 😉
- Is there a god of disappointment 🤣🤣🤣
- But you burn the stuff to send a message to the gods, not mortals or dead people. Burnt offerings are only messages to a god they are offered for.
Did Percy misunderstand this or did the makers of the show?
Cause there should be no way for Sally to have actually gotten that message;
- Burning candy and talking to mama hits right home though. Very painful, peak cinema, hurts a lot. Poor little Percy, he just needs a hug;
- Not from a gutter, Clarisse, what the actual?!?!
- Aaaand Supreme Lord of the Bathroom emerges!!!
I just love how good old Jonny outright refuses to harm Percy.
But does this mean Poseidon is the god of toilet water as well 🤣🤣🤣 what about everything that is flushed with it? Would he have power over that as well? Or only clean gutter water?
Also!!! Is Percy immune to ‘the Neptune’s kiss’?
(‘The Neptune’s kiss’ - is an unfortunate occurrence while going number two, when one of them lot falls down into the bowl with a blast and the water splashes back onto your unprotected buttcheeks.)
Cause that would be a seriously cool ability to have indeed;
- Annabeth!!! Always a win for Annabeth!!!
‘i can explain!’ ‘No you can’t!’
Absolutely chemistry
‘Are you stalking me, Annabeth?’ ‘Yes’
- Forbidden kids… hmm.. that’s an interesting way of putting it;
- Annabeth is Sherlock with better social skills? Hell yeah, Percy can be her sword-wielding Watson;
- Their armour looks so good! Like actually pleasant to look at, you can see effort and thought went into the costumes in the show.
Seeing them all dressed up reminds me of the longstanding tradition at Camp Halfblood of running outside wearing a breastplate and underpants when danger strikes in the middle of the night!
I really really hope they show that in this series;
- Percy should appreciate Annabeth standing there silently and waiting for him to get up, since any other classmate from his past would have made fun of his fall and certainly would not have waited for him to get up.
The way Annabeth reacted is decent between two warriors.
She did not mock his fall, waited for him to get up and made no unkind comments about it afterwards.
She did not help him get up, because he does not need assistance with such a minor trouble, which is something Percy will have to learn very soon.
As someone who has been bullied back at school, sometimes standing there silently is the nicest way someone you don’t know very well can react to you embarrassing yourself;
- I love how Annabeth doesn’t flaunt her being better at stuff in Percy’s face, he is the one who says that in a fit of self deprecation.
The writers could have easily had her say something like ‘of course i’m better’, as happens a lot in modern cinema, when characters boast about how awesome they are instead of showing it.
She respectfully listens to his ranting, then simply straightens out his breastplate, which is such an adorable moment between them my heart is going to shatter into a million pieces.
She then proceeds to tell him ‘you don’t even know how you fit into all this’ , basically saying ‘you don’t know how powerful you are’, but Annabeth is being wise.
She knows there is no point in telling Percy how awesome he could be. She believes in him and knows he needs discover his awesomeness on his own.
(I am currently re-reading The House of Hades, about half-ways trough.
Thus seeing cute Percy and Annabeth moments soothes by bleeding heart.
If you know you know, not gonna spoil an ancient book, ahahahha. )
- Yankees’ cap!!! (I know i am way too easily excited to see stuff from the book, but I was a Percy Jackson fan when the first movie came out and i still carry that damage, so cut me so slack)
- Game on! And she absolutely believes in him and never says anything demeaning, that is so awesome.
There is a trend in modern cinema to show characters’ badassness and awesomeness by having them be demeaning and rude to their companions.
This has been around for a while where the guy who was the best at everything was just allowed to be awful to everybody because of it.
Recent it has infected movies with female leads, as if the only way a woman can be portrayed as strong and capable is by being a bully to lesser men around her.
I love what they did with Annabeth here.
She is spectacular, she’s got a great plan, she knows it, she doesn’t have to repeat it.
But she does not need to be compared to Percy to be amazing, she simply is.
She also has faith in Percy and is supportive of him, without being patronising or feeling the need to over-explain.
She is confident he will know what to do when the time comes and believes honestly he will do well.
She does not tell him what to do because she is sure he will know when the time comes and that is a smart way to teach him a lesson about having faith in himself;
- Luke is so awesome, they nailed him! His faith in Annabeth and the way he says ‘Percy’s on it’ with no doubt whatsoever… i am loving it all;
- Percy is authentically adhd, this shit is so relatable 🤣
Petting that lizard is such a banger thing to do, i mean…
- It did not happen in the books like this, but these are such Percy moments, i cannot even 🤣 the main actor was a top choice;
- Closing your eyes and touching leafs or rocks is something I also absolutely love doing, Percy knows what’s on;
- Clarisse’s spear looks nifty as heck.
While I did complain that she needs to be bigger, Dior is perfect in this role. The casting generally is great so far.
She does portray the big bully energy really well;
- I have enjoyed the fight, although wasn’t Percy only supposed to get his power up after he touched the water? (I most honestly don’t remember)
Here it seems the presence of the river so close was enough and I must agree that it does look awesome when he suddenly begins fighting properly;
- And he falls into the water, heals up and is claimed by Poseidon. Precious!
- I am loving the Poseidon cabin vibes, it is just like the ocean. Beautiful and charming, but eerie and mysterious;
- I do not understand why they had to change it from Percy taking the quest immediately with the hidden idea of saving his mother, to his blatantly refusing the quest, only to have Grover tell him Sally can be saved to sway him to go anyways.
I think this was somewhat of a weird choice, but maybe it will matter later on, who knows.
It does fix up the rift between Grover and Percy with the whole Grover lying and getting him expelled situation, but that wasn’t really in the book at all, so…
I guess they wanted to try and not copy the book word for word, but Percy refusing the quest so harshly out of self preservation we have already established he doesn’t have much of seems a little out of character.
Maybe they are trying to emphasise that he would do anything to save his mom, but even without that, Percy would still have agreed to save the world and all, that’s his whole point.
And he did go with the idea of saving his mother in the book, he just didn't Grover to tell him it was possible, he simply refused to accept his mother was dead and was set on getting her back.
He is not a reluctant hero, he marches head first into danger, risks his life to save the world all the time and eats reality shattering prophecies for breakfast. (If you know you know ;)) )
I guess it doesn’t matter all that much.
In the book and the show he agreed to go on a quest in great part because he thought he could to save his mother, it was just presented differently. But I do feel once again they are diminishing Percy’s badassery.
This sweet and wonderful child doesn't need anybody's permission or reassurance, he simply though: 'Wow, there is my opportunity to go to the underworld, my mother must be there, to hell with Hades, I will make him give her back!"
He basically thought she was dead and still planned on getting her back anyways!!!
As we have seem during the duel with the Minotaur, when given proper motivation (or simply when pissed off and/or desperate enough) Percy is absolutely unhinged.
He takes no shits from anyone, god, monster, or whatever else.
It just feels a bit weird to see Percy Jackson yelling ‘no’ to a quest.
And feels like Percy's determination and intelligence are diminished because he did not come upon the idea of saving Sally on his own.
- Also, since when does Percy have a sense of self-preservation, aahahaha he could have really used a bit more of that in the books
Overall 7/10 so far
One point off for the removal of Percy's grand refusal to accept death and his brilliant sneaky plan to attempt bringing his mother back from the underworld while the quest for the Masterbolt provides a valid reason to go there. Seriously, this was perfectly devious in the books. He kept the idea to himself and simply nursed a plan to basically bring his mother back from the dead all on his own.
One point off for Luke’s scar being tiny. Everything else appearance wise is not important cause the actors are great. But not giving Luke the proper huge scar is a cosmetic decision that I do not condone
And one extra point off for Gabe saying please and having redeeming human features, as well as Sally actually wanting to watch the game with him, I could not imagine she would have ever wanted to do anything with Smelly Gabe, no no no no no
All in all, this is great so far, I need more with urgency.

Who Are You Really? (Reunion)
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is a war story, focusing on battles and the machinations of inside forces. It also delves into abuse and its effects on the individual and those around them.
But then it takes a break from all of that to tell a family drama about Bow. Reunion is worked into the overarching plot, yes, but this episode feels out of place.
So... why does it do this? And why does this episode fit with the themes so well?

The term "foil" is derived from the practice of putting gemstones on foil to make them shine brighter, according to scribophile.com. In terms of character writing, it means a character that contrasts another character to make them more individualised.
This is often used to refer to protagonist antagonist relationships. For example, Catra and Adora are foils. But the term doesn't have to mean that. When you put literally any two characters together, even the same character twice, they will foil off of each other.
I would even argue that Adora and She-Ra are foils in this series until the last three or four episodes.

I think Bow's character takes this concept a step further and seems designed to be a foil for the story itself. Trauma slips off of this man like water off a duck's back, and his moral code is unflinching and unquestionably benevolent.
Bow exists to contrast the story's themes in a similar way to Scorpia, although I will get there in a later post. She-Ra shows all kinds of relationships going south and people making terrible decisions, and then cuts to Bow as if to say "this is how it should work."
However, Bow does engage with one theme pretty head on. The series has a recurring theme of deception that it exhibits with the First Ones and Mara, Hordak and his armour, Scorpia and her family, and Shadow Weaver's entire deal.

Bow is also caught up in a lie, that being the made-up boarding school that he told his dads he goes to. But this is also used to contrast with the rest of the cast.
In all of the examples mentioned above, when the lie is revealed, it causes some major consequences, and reshapes the worldview of those who were lied to. Bow's dads certainly have their worldview shaken up, but the consequences are skipped over, kinda.
"What's breaking our hearts is the fact that you thought you had to lie about who you are." "You're not mad? But I'm a fighter, and you hate fighters." "I could never hate you. Never. If you feel like you belong in the Rebellion, that's where you belong."
The series has trained the audience to associate consequences with punishment. The consequence for a failed mission is someone getting killed, the consequence for failing Hordack is the loss of breathing privileges.
The consequence for Bow's deception being revealed is an understanding being reached between him and his dads. It is a reconnection, because they value the truth, and do not hold grudges over each other. In other words, these three love each other unconditionally.

There is the key: Unconditional love. The final theme of the series that Bow has been playing entirely straight the entire time.
She-Ra as a whole has had the theme of love on the backburner. It is very clearly there, but it's never dwelled upon. Glimmer gets one over on Shadow Weaver because she cares about her friend despite anything that Shadow Weaver can say, for example. But nobody has explicitly said anything about the theme.
That is what this episode is, its telling the audience that this theme is here, and that they should start looking for it.

I do like the subversion of traditional romance in this series. The best parents in this series are Angella, George and Lance, a single mum and two gay dads. The heteronormativity of parents in literature as a whole is being messed with in this series, and I think that's great.

Contrast Bow's family with Catra's experience in this episode, and the key term changes from "unconditional love" to "trauma".
The scene with the shadow is a phenomenal microcosm of Catra's Post Traumatic Stress Disorder caused by Shadow Weaver. The woman isn't in this scene, but her shadow lingers, and it scares Catra out of her anger for a moment. Catra isn't scared of Shadow Weaver, she is scared of what Shadow Weaver can do. She is scared of the feeling of isolation that Shadow Weaver causes.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was a president of the United States of America, and is famous for saying this:
"We have nothing to fear but fear itself."
Rosevelt intended this to be a hopeful message, and I'm sure it was at the time, but it sums up Catra really well. She wants nothing more than to feel safe. That's why she loves Adora and not She-Ra, because where She-Ra can theoretically protect people from danger, Adora could protect Catra from being afraid. Catra is afraid of being afraid, and most of her actions in the series, from climbing the Horde ranks to confessing her love at the end of the series, all stem from a desire to be safe.
The series goes out of its way to show that love and safety are synonymous. Bow's dads love him unconditionally, and so he is safe to express who he really is, even if he doesn't realise it. Shadow Weaver does not love her children, and you know that because they are not safe around her.

You can see this with Adora as well in the tiny moment at the start of the episode. She sleeps with a knife, something that very few people who feel safe when they sleep do. It's a left-over behaviour from sleeping under the protection of Shadow Weaver. Adora cannot relax.
On a similar note, the Hordack thing.

Catra is mean, that's not a criticism of the character at all, that's an observation of the person. She is the villain of the story.
But I personally don't think that it is ever acceptable to remove someone's ability to breathe, against their will, in order to make a point. I don't think that any character in a story, no matter how bad they get, should be treated like that.

Final Thoughts
This episode is funny... mostly. There are a few jokes that don't land, and those stick out like sore thumbs, but for the most part, this episode is good.
As someone who studies history, is was genuinely funny to me to see the historians who didn't know what they were talking about. Or rather, historians that were working on theories that weren't correct. Because that's what history is. A lot of it is known, of course, but a lot isn't, and as new research is done and new evidence is uncovered, theories change.

Okay, let's talk about Sauron. A lot of people want to paint him as a one-dimensional villain, and this is simply not true.
I do believe that Sauron has developed feelings and an attachment towards Galadriel, but at the same time . . . he's been nurtured by evil for an extremely long span of time, millennium after millennium, so the tragedy is his understanding of relationships. The process of a relationship, to Sauron, is based on the experiences beaten into him by Morgoth. It's one of a servant who serves their master, even if that master is vicious, vile, and violent. No matter what, you serve that master and do as you are told . . . and it's an unbreakable bond to Sauron. It's what he understands. It's what has been nurtured in him over the course of almost all his existence. That's a relationship to Sauron.
Once his master, Morgoth, was defeated, Sauron was free to become the master himself. His way of regaining his agency is to be the oppressor now. Now, every relationship that Sauron seeks out is going to mirror his relationship with Morgoth. He is going to expect someone to follow him, do as they are told, and never question him or his will, no matter what. Sauron is going to expect them to serve him, as he served Morgoth. With unfailing loyalty and devotion, no matter how he treats them or acts out against them. They should never stray from his side.
When Galadriel found out his true identity and began to turn away from him, we saw his desperation to regain control over her come out in full force. Anything he had to do to get her back to following him, trusting him, not questioning him or his will, he began to do. Because that is how he understands the process of a relationship. It's not an equal partnership. It's one of a master and a servant. And remember: he's the master now.
Morgoth was vile down to his core. Let me paint a picture for you: Morgoth kidnapped and tortured Elves and Men and Dwarves and everybody, and turned them into a vast sea of slaves, whose bodies he did experiments on, whose bodies he beat, whose bodies he used to breed more slaves, which was just Tolkien's nice way of saying he forced them to rape each other in order to make more slaves. This is how Orcs were created. It's really dark shit, y'all.
Now, pause for a moment. This beast, this vile creature . . . was Sauron's master. For the majority of Sauron's existence. And Sauron learned that listening to this master, following his orders, and doing what he was told earned him riches, protection, power, and position . . . while everyone else who didn't submit was mutilated, tortured, defiled, and raped.
We can sit here and scream about good and evil all day long like it's easy to understand with black and white lines marking the differences between the two, but most evil is just a process born out of the cycle of abuse. At the end of the day, evil deeds are often taught through a cycle of abusive relationships. Once you fall into that cycle, it's very hard to get out of it. It becomes a subconscious way of life. It becomes your understanding of how relationships work.
That's the tragedy behind all of this. Sauron doesn't know how to have a healthy relationship of equal partnership. It's not that he doesn't have feelings and emotions. All beings have feelings and emotions, and Tolkien explicitly described Sauron's intense hate for good people multiple times throughout his works. Why? Because he wanted them to suffer. As he has suffered. Whether that suffering was direct or just horrific deeds he witnessed, it doesn't matter. Even witnessing abuse is severely traumatic, and the cycle of abuse also creates a cycle of hatred.
Sauron is not a one-dimensional villain. Tolkien never actually wrote him that way. His extreme need for control is, in many ways, a byproduct of abuse, which has driven him to commit terrible deeds so he is not the one suffering, but other people are. And he doesn't care. As long as it's not him. He wanted control over everyone and everything, so nobody would ever have control over him ever again.
That's the tragedy. That right there.
