#yuu is gonna train these assholes

Miss Yuu completely desensitizing the boys to girl stuff. If any of the first year boys are immature or uncomfortable with anything concerning the female body, they will not stay that way with her around. If they see a bra laying around her room, that's on them for just walking in without asking. They will hear about periods and go with her to buy stuff for it. They will zip a dress or tie up the back of her swimsuit when it needs to be fixed, and they better not crack a joke about it. Yuu spends so much time having to accommodate everyone and everything to get by, that she isn’t going to be discreet about her needs for the sake of their comfort, especially in her own dorm.

Stressed| Gurren X Reader
Tumblr media
They/them for the reader
----------------------------------------------
Gurren swept his hair back with a sigh. 'Finally, some alone time.'
Training the new recruits and planning out when and where to go to have a chance at victory against the vampires, which vampires to take out first, which ones to kill and which ones to leave alive, all of it, followed by a lack of sleep, was causing Gurren to be moodier and less playful.
He stood on top of a random building, away from the school, a place that Shinya recommended to him when he noticed what was going on. He closed his eyes, taking in his calm surroundings, almost falling asleep, when his brows furrowed in frustration.
'Damnit. How the hell did he get here?'
"Gurren! What are you doing here, you're supposed to be training us?!" Yelled an angry Yuichiro, storming up to the man who just had his 15 seconds of peace interrupted. Gurren looked over with an annoyed expression, but it softened when he saw who was on his arm.
"Y-Yuu, c'mon, leave him alone for a little while, he might need some alone time-"
"Alone time my ass. He was supposed to be with us 30 minutes ago, and Shinya had to take over because he didn't show up!"
Gurren swiftly caught Yuu's punches and kicks, dodging his sword, and never taking his eyes off of Y/n. "You're not supposed to be here."
Yuu growled, trying to attack him, but getting blocked yet again. "You will get in trouble if you stay here. Don't make me hurt you."
"Where gonna get killed by those blood-sucking assholes if you dont train us like you should!!"
"Yuu, please stop, he's going to-"
Gurren took a breath, catching one more of his punches before grabbing him, flipping him onto the floor, and wrapping his hand around his throat.
"I. Said. Leave. This is your last chance," He forced him back on his feet, and Yuu groaned before storming off. Y/n looked back at Yuu, and once he was out of sight, they turned to Gurren.
"I'm so sorry about him, Commander. He's been in an awful mood all day, I'll try and talk to him," They bowed before turning to run after him, but froze when they felt a hand on their wrist.
They looked back to see Gurren with a conflicted look. "I... Did Shinya tell you guys?" Y/n shook their head, brushing their hair out of their face with their free hand.
"I could tell, somehow. I understand everything that's going on, and the toll it must be taking on you, all of you," They bowed again, making Gurren smile softly. "So, please, rest up. And don't let this become a regular thing, especially with times like these going on,"
"Oh? Sounds like someone below me is trying to tell me what to do," He stepped closer to them, towering over them, making them avoid eye contact. "N-No, that's not what I-"
"I know, I know," he buried his hand in their hair, making them look up. "Thank you for being concerned. I'll be back tomorrow, dont worry. Now, go talk to that idiot."
They stared at Gurren with wide eyes, but his smirk snapped them out of their trance. "Y-Yes, Commander," They ran off, and he laughed softly, seeing their red face as they turned the corner.
He sighed, sitting back down again. 'Y/n Hyakuya... They're just like Yuichiro, but they know how to control themselves. They're an extremely strong fighter, and learned how to control and use their cursed gear within the first few days... That idiot can probably learn something from them,'
He smiled, thinking about something Shinya had said to him. "Looks like big, strong, Gurren has a bit of a soft spot for the newbie. Ooh, could this be a crush?" He shook his head, looking at the sky. 'Dumbass... He knows me too well, huh,"
----------------------------------------------
Gurren slumped into his chair, still slightly struggling to breathe. He took off his jacket, looking at the bandaged wound on his shoulder. 'Damnit... Hurts like hell.'
He let his head fall back, looking up and out of the window. A knock then came from the door, making him frown. "Come in,"
The door opened and he saw Shinya with a smile. "You alright in here?" He sang, making Gurren even more irritated. He hated people asking him if he was okay when he clearly wasn't. "I was fine when I was alone,"
"Okay, okay, just checking," he winked, closing the door again. As soon as it went quiet, another knock came. "Come in,"
Shinoa entered this time, with a more concerned expression. "Are you okay? You got beat up pretty badly."
"Well, no shit. I'm fine," she nodded, knowing to leave him alone, and left the room. For the next 20 minutes, people came in and out asking the same dumb question, making Gurren angrier and angrier, all he wanted was to be left alone.
When another knock came from the door, he was about to snap, when he realized how soft it was. 'Keep it together.' "Come. In."
The door opened, to reveal Y/n with bandages all over their face and arms. "Are... you alright, Commander? How deep was the woun-"
"I'm perfect. I'm just dandy. What do you want?" They struggled to find their words and looked down. "I-I just wanted to check on you, and to give you something..."
"What do you want to give me? I don't want sympathy, I dont want your regards, I dont want to hear how I fought bravely, I dont want anything, I've heard it all, so hurry up and spit it out and stop fucking stuttering!" Gurren stood up, slamming his fists on his table, sending pain throughout his arm.
Y/n tried to hold them back, but, a tear ran down their face, making his eyes widen. 'Shit. I forgot how they are about loud noises...'
They took a deep breath, shakily walking over to him, and setting a bowl down on his table, and that's when he saw their casted hand.
"I made you this soup... It has medicinal herbs in them and should help with the pain, and healing..." tears continued to fall down their face, and they looked up at him. "I hope you enjoy it. I-I'll leave you alone now,"
Y/n tried to hurry out of his room, but he struggled to get past his table. "Y/n!" They jumped, but then started to run, making him start to run after them.
Y/n was wiping their eyes as they ran, struggling to see, when they ran into someone. They looked to see Yuichiro with a concerned expression.
"Y/n? What's wrong, why are you crying?" They looked at his face and was about to stop when he saw Gurren behind him, and started to run again.
Yuu looked back and frowned. "What did you do to them?!" Gurren shot a glare at him, trying not to run into anything. "The wrong thing. Y/n, please stop!"
Y/n got to their room but struggled to get their keys out, but when they saw Gurren, they quickly got them out and unlocked the door. They ran into their room, slammed the door and locked it just as he got to it.
"Y/n- Y/n, please, open the door."
"N-No..."
"Y/n, this is an order, open the door-"
"I said no!! Leave, go away..."
He sighed, pressing his hands against the door and sinking to his knees. He sighed, gathering his words. "Then, listen. I am so, so sorry. I've always tried to control my voice around you because I know you dont like being yelled at. The last thing I want to do is hurt you,"
Y/n's eyes widened as they looked at the door. "Y/n, Love, please forgive me. I'm so sorry, and it hurts me to hurt the ones I love. Please, let me in,"
They hesitated, before opening the door, and they panicked seeing him on his knees. "Commander! Please stand up, please,"
They helped him up, and pulled him into their room, staring at his pink cheeks and glossy eyes. 'I've never seen him like this before...'
"I forgive you, Commander... I didn't mean to freak out, I'm sorry-"
"Don't you dare apologize, this is all my fault. You were just looking out for me, you even made me food. I was just in a pissy mood, I'm so sorry," he slowly walked up to them, cupping their cheek and brushing their tears away, making their cheeks flush red.
"C-Commander-"
"This might show how sorry I am..." Before they could respond, Gurren leaned down and pressed his lips against theirs. Y/n's eyes widened, and their face turned bright red, but, they eventually kissed him back.
He was about to pull away, but Y/n buried their hand in his hair, pulling him close and sliding their tongue into his mouth, making him hold back a smirk. Gurren easily took control as their tongues fought for dominance and Y/n let out a soft moan as his tongue entered their mouth.
Gurren pulled away, leaving a trail of saliva between their mouths and smirked seeing a flustered Y/n. "Seems like you enjoyed that. Is that something you've wanted from me?"
They looked down and nodded, bowing. "I'm so sorry, Commander, I didn't mean to, you're just... so intoxicating..." Gurren raised his eyebrow and Y/n realized what they said. "I-I mean- I'm so sorry, Commander!"
"Don't be sorry. You're too cute, Y/n, I like this side of you. No one has to know, if you dont want them to," They shook their head, and looked up at them.
"Thank you, Commander-"
"No need for that anymore. Call me Gurren," They smiled, kissing him again, but Gurren teased, pulling away when Y/n clearly wanted more.
"C'mon, I dont want the food you made me to get cold," Y/n grabbed his wrist, making him look back. "No one will know except for Shinya... Okay?"
He smiled, ruffling their hair. "Okay. I promise," He opened the door, but a pile of bodies fell onto the floor, causing Y/n to scream.
Laying there was, Yuichiro, Shinoa, and Yoichi, and Kimizuki was leaning on the wall. "We all know," he smirked at Y/n, making them blush.
"If any of you tell a soul, I'll kill all of you,"

Hi! If that's okay could i request some angst for the first years (+Grim, Crewel and Crowley? Platonic only for them)
MC/Yuu runs away from NRC due to all the shit they've been put through because of Crowley not doing his job, they do finally find them some days later but MC refuses to go back to NRC and tells Crowley that they despise him.
Reactions?
First Years + MC Running Away [+Plat!Crewel & Crowley]
I love the angst for this, and planning the emotions that they would feel! The dorm leaders also make a cameo in Crewel and Crowley's part. Cut for length.
Warnings: Angst, Mentions of Emotional Manipulation, Curse Words, Wounds and Mild Violence. Please read at your own discretion.
"I'm not going back."
"Wh... What?" He was astonished. "YN... I've looked far and wide for you- please-"
No words left his mouth as you stepped away from him, tears in your eyes and you were going to make a run for it again.
Sebek Zigvolt
Sebek was in a dilemma. He wanted to go back to NRC because of Malleus, but you refused to. You still meant a lot to him of course, but he still wanted to stay in NRC. He reached out to you, holding you in place with his Fae strength.
"YN, we have to go back. Please don't be unreasonable," He begged. There was no way he wasn't going without you.
You shook your head, trying to tug against Sebek as much as possible. There was no way you could fight against him, and you wouldn't want to hurt him either. "Sebek... Sebek just let me go. I'm just a human and..."
The moment was ruined with Crowley showing up, yelling at Sebek to bring you back. You mustered as much of your voice as you could. "No! Don't take me back!" You screamed at Sebek, who was holding you in a lock. "I hate him! I hate him, don't do this to me Sebek!"
His grip almost loosened at you saying you hated Crowley. Actually, he thought it was directed at him. It took a lot of effort for Sebek not to cry because he knew. He knew how much you didn't deserve the things you faced. The Overblots, the treatment and sheer alienation from other students, Crowley's neglect... He knew.
He blamed himself for getting so caught up in what his Master was doing that he forgot to care about you. When he found out that you ran away, he felt as if he deserved it. He pulled you in, tucking you against his chest and allowing you to cry.
He didn't bring you closer to the others, neither did he bring you away. He kept you close to him, as your tears stained his perfect uniform. Not a word came from him when you cried into him. It was kept that way, as the half-Fae dared to growl at Crowley and anyone else that took a step closer to you.
"YN... You're safe with me, alright?"
Ace Trappola
He told himself that he wouldn't get mad, but your refusal just rubbed salt in wounds as he remembered the sleepless nights of trying to find you. Beneath all of it, he was scared. He was scared that he lost you to some one else. He was scared that this world never suited you, and you finally went to your own, leaving him alone.
"What do you mean you're not going back?! YN, stop screwing around with me!" He screamed, throwing his magic pen to the ground. At this point, he was pissed about anything relating to magic. Magic was useless when it came to finding you.
"I'm not going so leave me alone Ace..." You told him, tears nearing at your eyes. "I don't want to. I don't want to. I'm done with Crowley's shit and I'm done with NRC."
You took a running start, but Ace caught you, pushing you to the ground. His expression caught you off-guard. He was crying, eyes puffy and tired as his face was pale, as if he hadn't gotten enough sleep.
"You're done?! How could you... I..." He didn't know what to say. You were right. You had dealt with enough. You never deserved it... If it weren't for him and his troublemaking ways... Maybe you wouldn't have to suffer...
"I'm sorry..." He coughed out, his voice strained. He kept you pinned on the ground, as his tears flowed with yours. "I'm sorry for being an idiot. I'm sorry for dragging you into trouble. I know you don't deserve it but I'm an asshole that does anyway..."
"Ace..."
"But!..." He went on, his eyes glossing over as he admired you once again. Oh... you were beautiful to him, even if you were crying in his arms. "But I'm selfish. I didn't want to let you go so I went after you instead... So hit me if you want, scream or punch me... I don't care, just don't leave me."
He sat up, pulling you into his lap, his chin under your head. "I was so lonely without you YN..."
"Godammit I love you..." He choked out, his tears never-ending. You both sat there, hugging each other as if it were your last days. You didn't dare to let go of him this time.
Deuce Spade
He didn't know how to respond. All he knew was that he had to hold onto you before you ran away from him once again. "YN... Wait... Don't leave!"
He wondered if he even made the right choice to stay on the side of bringing you back. From just the look of you, he knew you were tired. He knew those responsibilities were never yours. Your suffering just proved to Deuce how powerless he was. Maybe that's why he wanted to bring you back... as proof that he could do something for you.
"YN... I'm sorry..." He said, holding you close to him. There wasn't a thing he could do for you. All you went through... It was Crowley's irresponsibility. He did this to you. Deuce's grip tightened on you, as he though of what it could've done to your psyche. "YN... YN... I'll make sure he doesn't touch you. I'll make sure that he never comes near you again... YN, you trust me right?"
For all the times he wasn't with you, he was determined to make up for it. Deuce wasn't going to let you suffer through this alone, even if it means he gets hurt. It was better for him to get hurt than you, even though he was so desperate to ask Crowley to find you.
You nodded, hiding into Deuce's chest. His heart was beating so fast, most likely from the never ending search for you. You never regretted running away, but you missed Deuce and your other friends, and Grim too. The one thing you regretted was accepting Crowley's offer to stay here.
"I don't care what you do to me," You told him. "Just don't take me back. I don't to go back. I don't want to go back to NRC..." Your body trembled at the thought of moving back to NRC, but all thoughts of it were abandoned as you saw Crowley approach you.
You screamed, but he never touched you. Deuce stood in the way, as he shielded you with his own body. He pushed you back, as he grabbed tightly onto his magic pen. Abandoning all morals of propriety, he glared hard at the principal.
"...Don't touch her."
Jack Howl
He wasn't going to let you run away this time. "Don't move."
Jack couldn't believe that he found you so quickly. No, that wasn't it. He couldn't believe that you were still here. Despite him having a scent on you, you could've been miles away without him knowing. He thought you went back to your own world. He thought you hated him, but by the way you hugged him, it reassured him of any thoughts he had.
There was not single part of you that did not tremble when Jack told you he wanted to take you back. Your sheer refusal turned into an argument quickly, as you listed all the sufferings you went through. It was confusing and agonising for Jack to listen to you. He knew you needed this, but some of the things you said sent shivers down his spine.
"I…"
"It's okay YN. You don't have to go back," He whispered to you. Jack's ears flattened as yours tears made your eyes puffy. He got flustered since he didn't know how to comfort you any further, busying himself with wiping away your tears instead.
Jack was sharp. He knew Crowley was out to get you, even if you didn't want to. He wanted the easy way out, but Jack wasn't going to give him the chance. There was no reason why Jack shouldn't help you… but he'd be lying if he weren't scared of what would happen if you both were caught.
You and Jack had the same train of thought, so you shook your head. "No Jack… I have to…" You told him, your voice raspy. "You already found me and there's no use. You… You can't outrun him with me…"
Jack growled, baring his teeth at the person who caused you such misery. His claws were out, as he hid you behind him. You didn't make a sound, paralysed by the very person that pulled you in this hell. You only met eyes with Crowley for a moment, as the world swirled around you.
"I know I can't… But I'm sure as hell am going to try…" Jack ran away from the principal, with you tightly in his arms as he made a run for it.
Epel Felmier
He was more than angry. He never understood why you and him but now it was evident. It was because both of you were stubborn. You both always tried to grasp what you wanted, and in the light of attaining it, you both always made a run for it. For him it was power… and for you, it was freedom.
"Damn it!..." He cursed underneath his breath, quickly removing his jacket and covering your head in it. You were probably hungry and tired. You were probably scared. What was he supposed to do?...
How did it come to this? He was supposed to be the one that supported your desires, no matter how big or small as you did the same to him. But now, with him using Crowley to get to you… What was he doing? This was hurting you, not helping you.
He moved away from you, ripping off the magical tracking device off of him. "You damn liar!" He screamed. "How dare you hurt her like this… Do you think I'm some stupid puppet?! Like hell you're gonna reach her with my help!"
Epel stomped and tore the device apart, grunting at every time the magic deflection hit him. He didn't stop, ripping further into the grass as he cried for your sake. He never meant to do this to you. He got up, taking you by the wrist and pulling you much deeper into the forest.
"YN… YN we have to go. They were tracking me and they- they might…"
You stopped in your tracks.
"YN?"
You hugged Epel, holding him tight. He snapped out of his delusions, turning to panic about your well-being. "Are you hurt? If you can't walk I'll carry you, but we have to get away-"
"Stop Epel," You said, taking his hands into yours. "Stop… It's okay… I'm okay… I can't make it any further and I don't blame you… I just… wanted it to not hurt for a bit."
He broke down in your arms, as you both collapsed to the ground. Filled with exhaustion, you could only grip to his hands weakly. Before your eyes darkened, you remembered his last words.
"I'm sorry…"
Divus Crewel
He's horrified at your state. All his emotions were bottled for the time being. There was no reason for a puppy like you to be exposed to such horrid emotions from him. He shrugs off his fluffy coat, covering you in the coat, as he carries you in the coat.
Dire was quick to catch up to him, but alas, all that Divus had for him was disappointment. Even from teacher to teacher, no… even from magician to magician… all respect for Dire that he had vanished. The dorm leaders caught up with the principal, and from the looks of it, they were horrified.
"For this puppy to end up like this…"
No, he couldn't get angry now. He had to be the example to other students. Rosehearts, Al-Asim and Ashengrotto were in tears, while Draconia and Kingscholar were murderous. If it weren't the difference of authority, Divus would bet those two would maul Dire where he stood.
"Draconia. Schoenheit. Take YN away and treat her wounds," He commanded. Still wrapped in his coat, Malleus brought you to the others, as Vil observed for any of your wounds. Divus signalled the other students away as he took off one of his gloves, glaring at Dire. "I need to talk with the principal."
Dire was still, as Divus delivered a clean punch across his face. There was no need for further violence. It'd be an insult to what you suffered. Divus grabbed Dire by the collar, almost sneering at him. "Did you realise what you've done to that puppy? She's scared, she's suffered all because of you."
He left Dire alone. It's what he deserved. There was nothing to be done. If he further pummeled the crow man, he might just kill him right then and there. Divus, for now, had to be by your side as your father figure and welcome you back safely to NRC as you were meant to be. Before leaving, he picked up his sullied glove from the floor, saying his last to Dire.
"You don't deserve to be her father."
Dire Crowley
He was ashamed to use his magic on you, but he had to prevent you from running. It was a necessary measure, but the real thorns were your words that pierced through his heart. You yelled insults, curses and cusses at him as if you were held at gunpoint, your lungs exhausted from the constant shrieking.
"No no! Let me go," You begged. "I hate you, I hate you I hate you!" You chanted it as if it were a spell. "I wish you never took me in. Don't touch me!"
The words were enough for the magic to weaken, granting you your escape. Dire was not swift enough, but the Dorm Leaders were. They heard everything, every complaint you threw at Dire and every insult you had for him. Malleus caught you, but as soon you knew it was him, you pushed him away.
"No… NO! I am NOT GOING BACK!" You cried, holding your head in your hands, crouching into a ball. Leona quickly knocked you out. If you went on, you would've hurt yourself and the injuries you sustained from running away was concerning enough.
Against all odds, those seven turned to the principal, with faces of betrayal. All you had been through… They did not realise what burden Dire, and subsequently, they placed on you.
"Crowley… you were never gracious."
Dire was hopeless. He couldn't comfort you, he knew he couldn't be forgiven. He stood in his place, accepting his fate at the moment. He couldn't ask for your mercy nor forgiveness, and perhaps that was his fate. To be cursed by whoever he neglected.
"Please, take care of her for now."

@heartshocked : 9 i demand jadeyuu size difference     /     accepting.
Their blazer got torn in another stupid fight.  The dumb bitch that did it knocked Yuu down once, which is a hell of a challenge.  But their training with Jade had them depending on speed more than harm this time around, so Yuu had won and come away with with no meaningful wounds.  But that asshole had managed to get the pocketknife into Yuu’s blazer.
They were already cold, and that was before Jade found them in the hallway, shucking off the torn garment with a groan.  They don’t have a decent jacket for this kind of weather, and even before they had to sacrifice a layer, they’d been cold.  The thin material of their shirt doing little to protect from the spring chill that hangs around campus, and it’s that much worse accordingly.  Ugh.
Still, they smile when they other approaches, annoyance ceding focus briefly to greet their pseudo - partner.  “Hey.”  They even go up on their tip toes and tug him down a bit to press a kiss to his cheek, as though that’s the most obvious course of action, the movement mostly unthinking.  It’s easier, now.
They’re shivering, still, and Jade only watches them for a moment before he’s shrugging off his thicker jacket.  Yuu looks up from shoving the remains of their own garment into their bag in time to guess his intent, and there’s no surprise when the jacket is being wrapped around their shoulders.  There’s almost no fear, too.
It’s a different one than the last time they did this when Yuu was caught in the rain, but the experience is mostly the same — it’s much too large on them, hanging past their hands and drooping around their much thinner shoulders.  Their cheeks heat, eyes widening for a moment before the expression goes grateful and gratified.  Their hands find the sleeves, and they can’t look him in the face just yet.
Tumblr media
Before, they’d been flustered at the size difference, and there’s still that.  They’re so much smaller than him, and that makes their cheeks warm and their eyes wide.  But it’s — they’re in public this time, not alone in the lounge, and Yuu can sense more than a few pairs of eyes on them.  It’s not a secret, exactly, that they’re...seeing each other?  Or whatever it is they’re doing.  Yuu had kissed him just a bit ago, after all.  But still, this feels a little different.
“Thanks, Jade,” they say, voice a pleased hum.  They look up at him, being swallowed in the jacket and liking it, comfortable and warm and looking small but feeling the opposite.  His gaze is curious and amused and fond, and that has their heart beating a little faster.  I want to love you, he’d said.
There’s a mischievous glint to their eyes.  “People are gonna talk, though, y’know.”
His smile goes plaful at the thought, and Yuu just laughs, head shaking; that’s probably just funny to him.  It might keep anyone from trying to beat them up for a while, they guess.  It’s been happening less already.  Yuu wonders if Jade has anything to do with that.  “All right, well, while you’re being chivalrous, why don’t you walk me to my next class?”  They hope he doesn’t ask for the jacket back when they get there.  They’d like to hold onto it a little longer.

HEADCANONS: fake dating!
Bakugo Katsuki:
-It all started when the bakusquad teased him about being gay saying stuff like "hey dude, being gay is ok" or "man if you're gay just tell us we won't treat any other way".
-So of course he had to prove them wrong, bc he's not gay only for kiri... and todo and what better way than to idk, make out with a girl in front of them?
- You were the first one to pop in his mind when he came up with the idea.
- You two were pretty close so no one will suspect a thing. Plus he knew you'd agree cause you're just that nice right?
- Well not really.... When he came up to you and addressed his idea at first you were shocked, did THE Bakugou Katsuki ask for your help?! wow you were impressed! And also nah, you're not gonna let this opportunity pass.
- So you told him you'd agree only if he helps you train. I mean c'mon you have one of the strongest students asking for help you're gonna take advantage of the situation. So after a few complaints from him, he finally agreed and you two started talking about the details of the "relationship".
- One day you two entered class holding hands. You were all smiley and blushy, thank god for the drama classes you took as a child, while he was being his normal grumpy self, but if anyone looked close enough they could see the faint blush on his cheeks. He wasn't used to this much affection.
- All the class was silent for like a minute or so, trying to make sense of the whole situstion untill someone decided to break the awkward air with a "FINALLY YOU TWO TOOK FOREVER TO CONFESS" which made the class react and just drown you with questions.
- Now, it was no lie that the two of you liked each other, but on one hand you had a grumpy explosive boy who would rather die than express his real feelings, and you on the other hand was too shy and too afraid of rejection to confess.
- Few weeks passed by, the whole fake dating thing really got you two closer than ever before, but you still decided to keep your feelings for yourselves.
- Maybe one day the fake dating will turn into real dating, who knows?
Sero Hanta (my boi needs more LOVE)
- You were in deep deep trouble. Like serious trouble.
- You're cousin was coming to visit. That alone was a nightmare. She was the kind of girl who would judge you for literally anyting. Your hair color, your fashion style, the fact that you are still single.
- But you've had enough of all these years of bullying. Well you knew she meant no harm, but you just couldn't take it anymore you wanted to make her shut the fuck up.
- So you asked your friend, your dear kind friend Sero to help you out. Just anything to help you go through the next two weeks without murdering your cousin.
- He suggested fake dating, like this she won't annoy you about that subject anymore. And then you guys started thinking about who would accept to do that with you.
- When he couldn't find anyone he almost gave up untill you said "Hey Sero since you came up with the idea, why don't you pretend to be my boyfriend?.... Pretty please?"
- Being the sweetheart he is, and wanting to help you, he accepted.
- Whenever your cousin was around, you texted him and smiled to make it more believable, and hid your phone whenever she tried to look with who you were talking.
- One day, she couldn't take it anymore and asked in a very obvious sarcastic tone "Who are you texting y/n? Your boyfrieeend?"
- God you just wanted to smack her! But instead you nodded with a smile on your face.
- She asked you to meet him, she wanted to "make sure he's good enough for you" you tried to refuse multiple times but she insisted so you asked Sero to come over and tell him the whole plan.
- Sero showed up with flowers in his hands, which surprised you because he didn't tell you he was going to bring you something. Which made you slightly blush because of his kindness.
- Diner went great, Sero kept glancing your way, sending you smiles and would occasionally kiss your hands, and everytime he did so, it sent butterflies to your stomach, he was so sweet and gentle. But hey snap out of it, it's all an act y/n!
-Your cousin looked obviously jealous, good that's what you wanted.
- Evry other day, Sero you come over or he'd take you out on a "date" just to keep the act, and you can't help but find him more adorable everytime. Did your heart always beat that fast whenever he said your name?
- When your cousin left, Sero told you that it was a great plan, and she seemed to bother you less, which you respond to with a simple "yes, you're right" and a smile, but in reality, you were sad that he won't kiss your cheek anymore, he won't take you on dates anymore, that he wasn't your boyfriend anymore.
- But little did you know, he too was sad that you're not his anymore.
Shirabu Kenjirou
- His parents always bugged him about not having a significant other yet.
- They kept bothering him, to the point where they even tried to set him up with someone; inviting people over and making him talk to them, dragging him with them to meet their friend's kid, etc....
-He was mad at them, couldn't they just leave him alone?
- But to do that, it means he had to find someone who was willing to fake a relationship with him.
- It's when he thought about you, you had begged him to help you study, even telling him that you'd do anything just to help you pass your class.
- Well that was his only solution. So he called you up, explained the whole deal, and well he kind of forced you into it because "you said you'd do anything right? Unless you want to fail?"
- This little asshole! But well it's ok, who doesn't want to fake date a rich handsom young man?
- He picked you up and you went to a fancy fancy restaurant where his parents were waiting for you.
- What you weren't expecting from this whole deal, was to discover a new side of Shirabu, around his parents, he was happy, funny, joyful, the opposite of the Kenjirou you spent the last few years with.
- He'd keep making jokes with you, calling you  sweet nicknames and made sure your hair was out of your face by putting the loose strands behind your ears. Oof it was getting quite hot in this outdoor restaurant.
- When the lunch ended, his parents gave you a hug and kept insisting that they wanted to see you again.
- Once out if his parents' sight, he let go of your hand and his natrual mean face came back.
- Ouch, that hurts.
- You thought that this was the last time you'd ever see nice Shirabu, but you were wrong, a few days later, he asked you to come over beacause "my parents won't shut up about you" and you were more than happy to go again.
- His parents kept their promise and made sure that they see you at least once a week. Which helped you getting to know the setter better. He was no longer shy to show his sweet side around you even when it was the two of you alone studying, he often kept holding your hand even if his parents aren't looking, and his heart made a flip everytime you blushed if he played with your hair.
- You both didn't know what was going on, and how to deal with these new feelings, but you did know that you hoped the other never changed their mind.
Nishinoya Yuu
- You two were friends since god knows when. You were inseparable.
- One night, while you staying over to his place, a great, mischievous idea came to your mind.
- "Hey Yuu, why don't we prank the team and send the a snap of us holding hands?"
- Nishinoya was never one to back down from a prank.
- But well now that the team believes that you guys are dating, what were you going to do? Being the reckless teenagers that you are, you decided to keep up with the prank and start fake dating.
- Whenever the team was around, the two of you would act super lovey dovey like feeding each other, calling each other overly sweet names, hug like every two minutes. Guys please take a break!
- You would always visit him during training and games to cheer him up, compliment him on his moves, and proudly give him a kiss before and after each game.
- He was always here to help you go through bad days, make you smile when you got a bad grade, telling you it wasn't the end of the world, and caress you cheek whenever he saw you.
-Those were thing you normally did, even when you weren't "dating" but lately those small actions felt different.
- It was all fun and games untill one day, Nishinoya saw you talking to a guy, he felt jealous, he ran up to you and gave you a hug, glaring at the guy to leave without you noticing.
- You, on the other hand, wasn't doing better, whenever he would talk about other girls, telling you how hot he found them and how lonely he felt without a real s/o, you would get furious. But why? That's how Nishinoya always was. Nothing new.
- But those feelings didn't keep you two from giving up on the prank, wanting it to last as long as possible.
- When Karasuno won against Aoba Johsai, you ran over to Yuu to give him a hug, one of the tightest hug you ever shared, and neither of you wanted to let go, but you had to.
- When you separated, you couldn't help but look into each other's eyes, something was about to happen, something good was about to happen, you hoped.

Title: What We Lack Part 14 Pairing:  Kacchako, Deku/Melissa, Todomomo Rating: T Word Count: 4,351 Read on Ao3 Summary:
Quirkless.
They’re the last people anyone expects to have a child without a quirk.
Neither of them can fully wrap their heads around it, but Ochako knows Katsuki is struggling far more than her.
Thank you to @its-love-u-asshole and @amaisenshi for reading this over and letting me freak out always.
"So you're friends again?" Shouhei asked, scooping a large bite of rice into his mouth. "Does this mean Arata is gonna stop being a dick to us?" He grunted, swallowing down the large bite of rice he took, coughing as he did.
Yuuta raised an eyebrow. "Shou-kun... you really should take smaller bites," he muttered, shaking his head.
"I'm fine, I'm fine," he coughed, patting his chest.
"You're making a mess," Yuuta giggled, leaning forward to gently brush some of the rice off of Shouhei's cheek. They had come up to the roof for lunch, actually taking time to relax with each other.
Here, it was easy for them to be... a little closer. Something Shouhei seemed to avoid when they were together in class or ate lunch in the classroom. It was just... different... when they were alone. Maybe Shouhei really was embarrassed. Yuuta could understand why... it wasn't like he was highly regarded in their class.
He swallowed, knowing he still needed to just ask Shouhei what they were to each other. It was such an easy question, and yet... here he was, concerned and nervous... terrified if he brought it up, it would all be over.
"Yuu..." Shouhei said, leaning towards him with a smirk. He wrapped his fingers around Yuuta's hand, giving it a small squeeze. "You're thinking about something."
"E-Eh!?" he gasped, practically falling backwards. "I-I'm not..."
"You didn't answer me about Arata," Shouhei said, his brown eyes staring intently at Yuuta.
"Mmm..." Yuuta hummed softly, happy Shouhei was willing to divert the subject to his brother. "Well, it seems like he's going to be less of a dick to me, I dunno about you."
Shouhei sighed, letting his head flop forward. "What? You're not gonna put in a good word for me?" he asked.
Giggling, Yuuta shook his head. "Nope. You're gonna have to talk to him yourself."
Shouhei sighed, sitting up. He gently ran his fingers through Yuuta's black and white strands. "So..." he whispered, "is it because he's jealous?"
Yuuta's cheeks heated up, his face throbbing with embarrassment. "J-Jealous of what?"
"Us..." Shouhei said, his fingers gently curling around Yuuta's ear. He stroked at his jaw, his lips hovering above Yuuta's.
"I-I don't know," Yuuta's eyes flicked to the side. "I think Arata... Uhm... I think he..."
"What?" Shouhei asked, his lips curling into a smirk.
"Likes girls?" he muttered. "I-I dunno it's really hard to think when I know you're about to kiss me."
"Good," Shouhei teased, pressing his lips to Yuuta's, kissing him so softly. Shouhei always made Yuuta's stomach flip flop, his body shivering as he melted against the other boy. He wondered if Shouhei had ever kissed anyone else, if that was how he practiced, since he was so damn good at kissing it made Yuuta's head spin.
Sometimes he wanted to do more... he wanted Shouhei to touch and kiss him in other places than his lips. Maybe even a little... lower? Was that horrible? Was he dirty?!
He knew it was better to take things slow, so even after kissing for a bit, Yuuta was happy to snuggle close until the curfew was up and he was forced to return to his room, or the lunch bell rang and they made their way back to the classroom.
"Shou..." he whispered, not wanting the other boy to pull away.
"So... you really think Arata only likes girls?" Shouhei said, still cupping Yuuta's cheeks.
Why did Shouhei care about Arata so much? Did he want to kiss both of them? Yuuta immediately wrinkled his nose and pulled away. "I-I dunno! He never talks about that kind of stuff!"
"Yuu?"
"Do you want to kiss him instead of me? I get that Arata is better at most stuff compared to me but-"
"Ew! Yuu.... Yuuta... no... no, no... one thousand times no. I don't want to kiss your brother! I want to kiss you!" Shouhei said waving his hands.
"You know, Arata and I are twins," Yuuta said, raising an eyebrow. "If it's so gross to you, why am I not gross?"
"I-I just meant it would be gross to kiss him after kissing you!" he stammered. "You know, this is confusing. First you're upset that you think I wanna kiss him instead of you and then you're upset I don't wanna kiss him?" Shouhei admitted, tilting his head to the side. "Gettin' some mixed signals from you, Yuuta."
"Ugh..." Yuuta sighed, raising his dark eyes to look at Shouhei. "Sorry. I just..." he paused and pressed his teeth against his lips.
"What?" Shouhei asked, concern flickering through his brown eyes. "You know you can tell me anything, right?"
He slammed his eyes shut, curling his hands into fists as he pressed them hard against his own legs. "What are we, Shou?" Yuuta whispered finally, knowing he could no longer put this question off.
"Huh?" Shouhei blinked, completely confused. "What do you mean 'what are we'?"
"I-I mean are we boyfriends?" he muttered, the question sounding so stupid as it left his lips.
Shouhei's mouth practically dropped as he stared at Yuuta. "Uh... is this a serious question?"
"Kinda?" Yuuta muttered, poking his fingers together. "I-I mean, you never do anything publicly or have really said if we are or not."
Shouhei's cheeks turned red, his gaze turning away from Yuuta. "Y-Yeah cause PDA kinda... grosses me out," he muttered. "I just want you to know how much I care about you... the world doesn't fucking need to know. But... it's not because we're not... boyfriends."
"The world doesn't need to know... or you don't want them to know?" Yuuta asked, looking at the ground.
Shouhei pursed his lips. "No, I meant they don't need to know. If you want me to shout from this rooftop that we're dating, I fucking will. I just... kinda assumed we were after I kissed you that first time."
"Well you never specifically asked," Yuuta giggled.
Shouhei adjusted his tie and cleared his throat. "Alright. Todoroki Yuuta, will you be my boyfriend?"
The words were so soft, even coming from Shouhei's gruff voice, and Yuuta's heart fluttered a bit. He'd been wanting Shouhei to say it all officially and now that he had, Yuuta was convinced he was going to combust into blue flames.
Instead, he grabbed Shouhei's cheeks and pulled him into a kiss. "Of course I will."
Shouhei cracked a smile. "And you know, If you want, I can be more honest about all this."
Yuuta shrugged. "Mmm… okay. Maybe we could... hold hands every so often."
Shouhei nodded. "Good deal."
Yuuta nodded, leaning his head against Shouhei's shoulder. Honestly, the more time Yuuta spent with Shouhei, the easier it was to adjust to U.A. It truly felt like he was meant to be here.
~~
Arata sighed, adjusting his backpack as he stood outside of his parents' house. He hoped they were even home. Though he supposed if they weren't it would save him a huge headache.
He knew his father was going to be so incredibly disappointed.
Sucking in a large breath of air, he raised his hand to knock on the door. It was the one day off he had from training with his grandfather, and after talking to Yuuta, he thought maybe he should at least... tell his father. He knew it would be a huge fight, but at least... he wouldn't be hiding anything from them.
He knew he didn't really owe them an explanation... but there was a small part of him deep inside that hated worrying his parents. He hated seeing his mother so... distressed.
Pursing his lips, he knocked on the door and squeezed his eyes shut. Maybe he would be lucky and they would've been gone for the evening or working...
Instead, his father opened the door. "Arata? Why are you not at school?"
He clutched at the straps of his backpack, his hands trembling. "C-Can I come in?" he asked, his blue eyes locking with his father's mismatched ones.
"Of course," Shouto whispered, placing his hand on Arata's shoulder, gently leading him inside. "Is everything okay?"
Why did his dad have to be so straightforward and to the point?
Arata swallowed. "Yeah, fine. I uh... I just thought I could tell you and Mom about the first week."
"You know," Shouto chuckled, "you're always welcome to come home. But you can also call us if you don't want to leave the dorm."
"Yeah... I know..." Arata said. Maybe he should've just called. It would've been easier to hang up when his father started ranting at him about how horrible Enji was and how Shouto didn't approve and... just thinking about these things made Arata tired. "I guess I should've just called."
Shouto's eyes were so soft. "No, no it's good to see you. Like I said, you can always come home."
"Where's Mom?" he asked, peering into the living room.
It was strange, even though he'd only been gone for a few weeks, already his house felt foreign. His parents hadn't changed a thing and yet he felt like a stranger. Like his father and the living room kept moving farther and farther away from him, no matter how fast he tried to work.
And really he had no one to blame but himself.
"Finishing paperwork at her agency. You know how your mother is. Everything has to be in order before she comes home," Shouto chuckled. "Do you want some tea? I'll make some."
Arata shook his head and took a seat on the couch, not even taking his backpack off. He was certain his father was going to kick him out shortly anyway.
Shouto took a seat next to him. "How are your classes going?"
"Good," Arata shrugged. "I uh, I'm one of the strongest in the class, that's for sure," he said, unsure if his father cared about something like that.
"And you've been training?"
Arata nodded again, shaking his red and black hair across his forehead. "Yeah, a lot."
"And your brother? Have you seen him? Are you two getting along?"
Arata sighed. Everything always came back to Yuuta. "We're in separate classes, Dad..."
"Right... of course," he replied, buying that as a good excuse.
Arata sighed, sitting back against the couch. He had no idea how to really even bring this up. What would he say? Casually tell his father he was training with the man Shouto had worked so hard to keep him and Yuuta from?
"Good. It sounds like things are going well," Shouto said.
"Mmm... yeah..." Arata said. "Really well. I'm uhm... grateful..." he whispered, letting his hair fall over his eyes. He wanted to say it, he really did... but he couldn't find the words. Why was he absolutely terrible at speaking... not that his father was really any better.
"Grateful?"
"Mmm... for being able to attend U.A..." he said softly.
Shouto nodded. "Arata... you are lucky to be attending there, yes, but you work hard too."
"Right..." Arata whispered.
Shouto scooted forward on his chair and leaned in to gently place his hand on the arm of the couch. "Arata... if there's something you need to talk about... your mother and I are always here for you. I know I may not be the best at communicating, but we love you and want you to be happy."
Why was his father being so forthcoming and kind? Arata had never been able to communicate well with him... and yet...
"Yeah," he said, his throat running dry. "I know."
"Good," Shouto nodded and let his hand slide down the couch. He sat back and stared at his son for a moment before nodding. "I just... appreciate your honesty. With everything, Arata."
Arata's face paled. Did he know? Did Yuuta tell him? No. There was no way... his father was way too calm... he would be angrier? Right?
Why did being home make his chest feel tight? Like he was about to suffocate and he could never escape from the disappointment he knew his parents had for him... or even if they didn't have disappointment now, they surely would when they learned what he was doing.
"I know that..."
"Good," Shouto smiled. "We're on the same page."
"Yeah..." Arata said and pushed himself off the couch. "I guess I should... get back because of curfew."
"I'm sure if we signed you out, we could say you stayed for dinner? Your mother would-"
"Sorry, Dad, I have a lot of homework..." he muttered, rubbing his neck. Why had he come here? This was all such a mistake. He wasn't ready to be a disappointment.
"You know, Arata," Shouto sighed, "if something is wrong you can always tell me. Your brother and you left for school, both of you unsure of your path. When I was your age, I felt similarly upon entering U.A. No one said this to me, but I want you to know... that no matter what path you choose, your mother and I are always going to love you."
"Right, yeah... of course," Arata nodded, agreeing with his father's sentiment, though he wasn't quite sure that was actually true.
~~
"Arata was here?!" Momo gasped, looking around the house for a moment as if she would make him reappear or find him somewhere she hadn't seen.
"Yes, love, and he left so he wouldn't be late for curfew."
"Well, that's good at least," she sighed. "You should've texted me."
"I didn't have much time," Shouto replied. "He came in, sat here awkwardly and left after I gave him some advice. Something is wrong but he won't say what?"
Momo sighed, letting herself drop to the couch. "I know... I can tell... but we can't do anything if he won't tell us what is wrong."
Shouto moved to sit next to her, gently stroking over Momo's knee. "I told him he could always talk to us. He needs to realize I am telling the truth."
"I wish I hadn't worked tonight," she muttered. "I just want to know my boy is okay... and here I thought we'd be worrying about Yuuta the whole time..." She ran her hand down her face and gently laced her fingers together with Shouto’s.
"Maybe if I text him..." she said, glancing to her purse on the table.
"I think we need to wait for him to come to us. I think that's why he came here today," Shouto admitted. "It seemed like there was something he wanted to talk about but obviously, he's not ready yet. I don't want to push him..."
"Maybe we should push him..." Momo whispered. "We are his parents and... I don't want anything to happen to him..."
"I don't know... You know how awkward I was when I was a teenager. We both were. In many ways Arata reminds me of myself and I would like to think I'm much better now I'm older... Arata might just need a little bit of time..." he said. "I don't know how to force it out of him anyway..."
"Well... we can give him a little more time but if he doesn't tell us... maybe we'll need to take more drastic measures," she said.
"...Drastic measures how?" he murmured.
"I-I don't know, nothing actually extreme," she said softly.
"...Momo..." he whispered, glancing down to the floor. "Do you think I’m making the right choice?"
"Huh!?" she blinked. "I… think so. I suppose we’ll have to see if he comes to us again."
"I don't know..." Shouto sighed. "Arata was looking for something when he came here and I have no idea if I gave him a good answer... I keep thinking I didn't..." he admitted softly. "He didn't say whatever it was he wanted to.... and I just have to wonder if maybe he would've if he talked to you. You know how hard it is for me to gauge how I'm being with the boys."
"I know," Momo whispered. She moved herself close to him and gently reached forward to touch his cheek. "I love you... and you're a wonderful father. I think I'm learning these are definitely the most complicated years," she said.
"Heh... me too..." he muttered. "These boys."
"If only they were tiny little babies again," Momo sighed. "I miss that..."
"It was much easier," Shouto agreed.
"Well," Momo said, leaning forward to grab her purse. She pulled her phone out. "I at least want him to know I was sad I missed him."
"I think he was sad he missed you too," Shouto said. He hated the hurt, distant look on Momo's face while she texted their son. Of course he was worried, but he knew pushing, especially with teenagers would only lead to more trouble. There was no way Arata would respond well if they tried to force it out of him.
"How about this," Shouto said, stroking over Momo's leg. "We'll give him a little bit more space and during their first break we'll push more... we'll tell him he needs to be more honest. It's a lesson I know he needs to learn."
"Alright," Momo sighed, and Shouto was glad he could give her a little peace of mind. "I just wish I knew what was so difficult to tell us. Maybe he's worried we'll be angry or disappointed."
"It's possible," Shouto whispered. "I guess we won't know until he comes clean."
"Mhm..." Momo said, moving closer to him, leaning her head against his shoulder. "I just want our boys to be okay."
"They will be," Shouto said, lacing their fingers together. He would make sure their boys were happy doing whatever they chose to do with their lives. Even if it took awhile for Arata to open up about whatever was bothering him.
~~
"Hah! Nice try quikless!" Hayami screeched, swiping the small bag out of Sayuri's hand, her lunch falling to the floor, the rice scattering on the ground.
"You gonna clean up that mess?" Sayuri scoffed, trying not to flinch when the cat girl leaned down, getting right in her face.
She purred softly while she spoke, "No," Hayami giggled.
"You pushed my damn food off the table, you can pick up the goddamn mess!" Sayuri retorted quickly.
"Yeah, right. Like I'd get my nails dirty for that," Hayami howled, laughing as she walked away with her two henchmen.
"Ugh..." Sayuri sighed, scooping the contents of the rice back into a small plastic baggie. At least now she could throw it away easier. "I just don't get what her fuckin' problem is with me! It's not like I can do anything to her." Sayuri clicked her tongue.
"I know it's easier said than done, but you should probably just ignore them. We're not going to be at this school forever," Kazu said, already dumping some rice onto her plate.
"I guess..." Sayuri sighed. "I just hate that she thinks she can push people around cause she has a cool quirk. You know sometimes I want to just sic my dad on her or something. But, I know I'm not a baby anymore, I can't have my dad fighting all my battles."
"You could ask him for advice. I mean I'm sure he'd know why she's doing it," Kazu suggested.
"Wait... my dad? Why? You do know we're talking about my dad, yeah?" Sayuri snorted. "He's not great with words."
"No I just meant because of my dad and your dad, and their history?" Kazu offered, but it only made Sayuri tilt her head in confusion. She was well aware of the long standing rivalry between her father, her Uncle Deku and Uncle Half and Half… and yes, her father hadn’t always been nice to Uncle Deku, but he wasn't a bully. He was a hero.
"Because they're rivals?" Sayuri asked, completely confused as to what Kazu was implying exactly.
"No," he shook his head, scratching his cheek. It was a sensitive topic. "I mean about the whole bullying thing."
"Bullying..." she whispered.
Katsuki had never really told her in full detail. Just that he'd said some awful things to her Uncle Deku about being quirkless. He wanted her to know he thought differently of it now... but... bullying seemed like a strong word for what her father did... or so it seemed.
She knew her father was jealous All Might had chosen to pass his quirk onto Deku, especially when her father viewed him as weak when they were younger and Deku was quirkless. He had explained how he realized how wrong he was and that he respected Deku, quirk or no quirk. Just as he respected her.
But did he?
The way he explained it... he always made it seem like he'd said things out of jealousy.
Kazu's face paled, and Sayuri hated the way his eyes flicked back and forth, the freckles on his cheeks glistening in the harsh light from the school.
"W-Wait, your dad has never told you about this?" Kazu asked, his cheeks heating as they spoke. "I-I thought we'd talked about it... I mean you're one of the only people who know... about my dad's quirk," he whispered, making certain no one heard him.
"He told me he said a few things to your dad once, but they had talked it through? Am I wrong!?" Sayuri asked, practically leaning over the desk.
"You know I really think you should have him tell you himself?!" Kazu said, his voice turning squeaky and high pitched. He always did this when he was nervous or hiding something.
"Midoriya Kazuya, if you do not tell me what my father did I will personally kill you," Sayuri hissed, leaning over her desk to grab at Kazu's collar.
"Why me!? This about your dad and my dad!" he said. "I-I just think he should tell you himself."
"No. Tell me. Right now," she demanded. Apparently she didn’t know all the horrible things Katsuki had said.
"When my dad was still quirkless... He... he told him to go jump off a roof..." Kazu whispered, glancing down to the floor. "And that wasn't the only instance... they grew up together but... your dad was never nice to my dad until they started to mature... and I-I mean my dad and your mom have always been best friends."
Kazu continued to ramble but Sayuri sat... unmoving. All this time she wondered why her father sometimes looked at her in the way he did, like she was already so see through. Maybe he didn't even want her to exist.
Her father... at one point in time... had told her Uncle Deku to jump off a roof because he had no quirk.
She’d known he had said awful things, but this was different.
For a moment, she couldn't hear anything but the sound of her own breath. She was alive... painfully alive... letting the concept of her father being an actual bully to her Uncle Deku like Hayami was to her settle in. How could he? How could he say that to... anyone? She knew he was abrasive and rude but... this was something else entirely.
And what if he wanted her to do the same?
No... there was no way. He was different now, right?
Seeds of doubt sprouted in her stomach, making the room spin.
"S-Sayu... are you okay? You know that your dad would do anything for you? I-I mean think about how stupid all our classmates are... how stupid we are...! Your dad was probably just an idiot kid," he urged.
Taking a step back, Sayuri practically caused the chair to fall over as she backed away slowly.
"Sayuri... where are you going?"
She shook her head and turned away, dashing out the door.
"Wait!" She heard Kazu call out behind her, but she continued down the school hall, not turning back for anything.
She needed answers and she needed answers now, she didn't care what the hell happened at school.
Running down the street, she ignored the blurs of people as she passed them by. Her eyes caught a poster with her parents on it and she paused, wrinkling her nose. How could her father call himself a hero if he said such awful things to an innocent person. Sure, he was in middle school when he said it but… still!
It made her heart ache.
She continued down the street and sighed, praying Katsuki was actually at his agency and not out on patrol.
She pushed the doors to the agency open and stormed through the stairwell door, her feet slamming against the stairs, all the way up to the fourth floor where Katsuki had his office.
Sayuri stomped down the hall to Katsuki, ignoring even her Uncle Kaminari who waved furiously and called her name.
Nothing would stop her from getting to her father.
She yanked the door to his office open, seeing her father standing by the window on his cell. His muscular back looked strong against the lighting of the room, and she could see his aggravation with the call, especially since his knuckles were turning white while he clutched the back of his chair.
Slamming the door behind her, she stood in his office and he turned around, shocked by her presence. His eyes widened, and he pushed his mask down around his neck.
"Gotta go," he said and slammed the phone down on the desk. "Baby girl, what the hell are you doing here?! You should be at that damn school!"
"Don't give me that shit," she snapped. "You fuckin' lied to me!"
Bakugou raised his eyebrow, staring at his daughter in confusion.
Her brow furrowed as she sucked in a long breath of air. "How can you call yourself a hero when you bullied Uncle Deku when you were young!?"
She watched her father grip his chair tightly, eyes wide with no words to be found.

Eijun and Furuya were pulled aside before practice started. They’d be doing position-specific work, and that meant leaving the batteries to their own devices.
“Since we might use Furuya in the practice battles with the team from up north, you’ll be paired with Miyuki,” Takashima said. Furuya seemed to glow with triumph. Maybe he actually was glowing. Damn order witch.
“You’re a slave driver, Rei-chan,” Miyuki laughed. “His control is trash, and he has no stamina. It’s hard on me too, you know.”
Takashima didn’t look particularly impressed. Furuya inclined his head.
“I will follow your every instruction, Miyuki-senpai,” he said demurely. “It’s a pleasure to be working with you.”
Eijun wanted to punch him.
“Sawamura.” Eijun looked up at Takashima and the taller boy. “You’ll be with Chris-kun, a third year. He’ll teach you how to act and lead on the field.”
Chris held out his hand for Eijun to shake, which was a little weird, but Eijun was too busy looking at Takashima.
“That’s not fair!” he protested. “I want to pair up with Miyuki-senpai too!”
So he was laying it on a little thick with the senpai. Sue him. He’d never even seen Chris before today, which meant Chris wasn’t even on the first string.
He was forced to look away from Takashima when Chris grabbed his wrist and forced his hand into a shake.
“What a coincidence,” he said, and Eijun had never heard a voice so cold, “I don’t want to pair up with you, either.”
It wasn’t power that radiated off Chris. Eijun knew what that felt like, standing next to Furuya and Miyuki. This was colder, and sharper, something more like malice, and even if it wasn’t magic that could hurt him, Eijun still wanted nothing to do with it.
“I’m Takigawa Chris Yuu,” Chris said, not smiling, just looking at Eijun with those dead eyes. “Nice to meet you, loser witch.”
Eijun wasn’t going to take that, shoving his face right next to Chris’. If he had nothing but his stupid ability to laugh in the face of danger, he’d take that, baring his teeth and resisting the urge to growl.
Before he knew it, though, everyone else was gone, and it was just him and Chris left. Chris still hadn’t let go of his hand.
“Your magic circuits are untrained, and weak,” Chris said. “No control. No way to channel your power.”
“You haven’t even seen me use magic yet,” Eijun snapped. Really, Chris could be nicer about it. It wasn’t his fault he’d never been trained, and he wasn’t bad! He’d worked fine with Miyuki!
“I don’t have to,” Chris said. “I can feel everything I need to right now. Ground yourself, and then we’ll get started.”
Ground himself?
Eijun had no clue what Chris was talking about. It must have shown on his face, because Chris sighed.
“Sit,” he said. “Use the energy of the earth to center yourself. You’re a nature witch, even you should be able to do this much.”
Eijun sat with a pout, not bothering to ask how Chris knew that. Maybe he was a telepath. Maybe Takashima had told him and he was just a dick.
“Take a deep breath in,” Chris instructed, voice flat. “Close your eyes. Imagine growing roots, sinking into the earth. Imagine yourself giving your power to the earth, and getting some back in return. Imagine the balance.”
Eijun did. It was kind of nice, soothing even, but Eijun wasn’t in the mood to be soothed. He cracked an eye open to see Chris watching him impassively.
“How long are you going to make me do this?” he asked. He couldn’t help the way his eyes flickered over to where Furuya was practicing with Miyuki, repelling attacks from Kuramochi and the Kominato brothers. Chris didn’t miss it.
“You look jealous,” he said. “You want to join the first string that badly?”
“We’re here for practice!” Eijun snarled. “So let me practice already!”
Chris gave him a cold look before reaching for a notebook, jotting something down. Eijun scowled.
“What are you writing?”
Chris ignored him. Seriously, what was with this guy? Eijun didn’t know him at all, but he was so cold. He was supposed to teach Eijun how to be an ace?
“A fair amount of power, flexibility, and a good balance between order and chaos,” Chris said, not looking up from his writing. “As expected of a nature witch, you have a neutral alignment.”
Eijun perked up at the praise. Maybe Chris wasn’t so bad, maybe he was just shy with new people.
“But you’ll never be the ace here,” Chris went on, snapping his notebook shut, and Eijun was geared up to fight all over again. “You have no control, and you don’t have to power to rival Furuya. You don’t know how to work with a familiar.”
Eijun was going to punch Chris instead.
“You want to practice so badly?” Chris asked. “Fine.”
He turned them so they were both facing an empty stretch of ground, a few marks made with paint. Chris put his hand on Eijun’s shoulder.
“Hit the first mark,” he instructed. Eijun was going to scream. Chris didn’t expect anything of him, but he was acting as Eijun’s familiar? Fine. Eijun was going to make him eat his words.
He threw a ball of energy at the mark, missing by inches. What the hell? Where was the help a familiar gave a witch? When he’d worked with Miyuki, it had steadied his aim, but if anything, this was worse than alone.
“What’s the matter?” Chris asked. “The mark’s right there. Hit it.”
Eijun swore his shoulder was getting colder just from the weight of Chris’ hand.
“You want a head to head battle?” Chris asked. “You seem like the kind. But that’s not what the ace is about. You’re the last line of defense, the one everyone rests their hopes in to protect their backs. I’d never trust you to watch mine.”
Chris left him with a list of exercises to do, simple stuff like holding a ball of energy steady for a minute and resting for a minute, ten sets, holding an object in the air in the same way, and steps for grounding himself, because apparently it was just so hard to breathe and sit on the ground. When he’d complained, Kuramochi had just said that it was to strengthen his magic circuits, and Eijun had been too intimidated by Harucchi’s older brother to argue.
Seriously, what the hell? This was kids’ stuff. This wasn’t helping anything. Anyone could hold a ball of energy for a minute. And Chris always left practice early. How could he expect Eijun to do anything when he was so unmotivated himself? Eijun was just getting frustrated, with no outlet for his frustration. He wanted out of this. He wanted to practice with anyone else.
He put up with it for a whole week before he finally went to Takashima to complain.
Just his luck, Miyuki was there too, and didn’t leave when Eijun sat on his knees, completely prepared to beg. Asshole.
“Did I pick the wrong partner?” Takashima asked Miyuki, like Eijun wasn’t even there. “He’s not doing very well with Chris.”
“Well, he’s not as easy to pair with as he used to be,” Miyuki commented lightly, flipping through whatever scorebook he was looking at.
“Sawamura-kun, you might not know this, but Chris knows more about coven battles than anyone else on this team,” Takashima said, finally addressing him. “And he’s good at bringing out other people’s full potential.”
Eijun had had just about enough of everyone telling him to listen to Chris, because it wasn’t getting him anywhere. He’d had it.
“So what?” he growled, not particularly caring that it was rude. “He’s barely motivated! He left practice early again today!”
Miyuki turned around, and if Eijun had been any calmer, he’d have noticed that Miyuki’s smile was strained.
“Hey, calm down, you shouldn’t say…” he started, but Eijun was too mad already.
“I want to pair with you!” he shouted. “I want that feeling again! That feeling from before, when we beat Azuma!”
Miyuki knelt down in front of him.
“Don’t be so impatient,” he said, his voice almost soft. “Listen to Chris, and you’ll get better, and you’ll feel that again.”
“No way!” Eijun snapped, still angry. “I don’t want to pair with someone so unmotivated! Why is he still on the team? If he doesn’t want to practice, he should just quit already.”
Eijun didn’t even realize what was happening until his back was hitting a wall, pushed there by magic, Miyuki following and getting in his face, brown eyes flashing almost amber.
“Everyone knows you want to get better,” he said, and his voice was low and dangerous and scary. “But what you just said…I’m not gonna let it slide.”
Eijun gulped.
“Miyuki-kun,” Takashima said softly. Miyuki stood, clicking his tongue.
“Ruined my good mood,” he muttered, turning to leave. Eijun stayed pressed against the wall, too scared to move.
“Sawamura-kun,” Takashima said. “Miyuki really looks up to Chris, and for good reason. Chris used to be on the first string, and he was the favorite for ace pairs.”
Eijun just looked up at her in shock.
“Then why…?”
Takashima sighed, and she looked…heavy. Eijun didn’t have to words to describe the emotion on her face.
“You know that familiars usually pair with witches, right?” she asked. Eijun nodded. “They can also partner with witches.”
“Isn’t that the same thing?”
“Not exactly,” she explained. “Familiars get to pick one person to give their partnership to, and the magic made by partners is much more powerful than any pair.”
Takashima adjusted her glasses.
“Chris has a partner. Her name is An,” she said. “She’s already graduated, and she’s a spokeswoman for a large corporation. Typically, witches in places of power like that keep their familiars with them at all times for protection. They were attacked, and she was incapacitated, and he had to protect her on his own. He overloaded his own magic circuits and fried them.”
Eijun’s eyes widened.
“So that’s why he…”
“They both would have died if Chris’ friend Zaizen hadn’t been there,” Takashima said. “He managed to help get them both out, but it was too late for Chris.”
“He can’t use magic at all?” Eijun asked. His voice was so small. He felt so small, and so stupid.
“With time, he will recover,” Takashima said. “Do you understand why he’s having you do exercises to strengthen your magic circuits? He knows the dangers of overloading them. He’s trying to keep the same thing from happening to you.”
***
The next morning, Eijun was at practice extra early, ready for Chris to arrive. When he did, Eijun sunk into a low bow.
“I humbly offer my deepest apologies!” he shouted with conviction. “I have badly misjudged you from the beginning. I beg of you, please teach me how to use magic!”
If Chris was surprised, it didn’t show in his face.
“Are you going to follow my training?” he asked.
“I’ll do everything you ask of me,” Eijun promised.
“Then let’s get started.”
And little by little, Eijun could really feel it starting to work. Chris increased the time for him to hold the energy balls steady, and though he could feel the strain, he could go longer and longer each time. When he grounded himself, he really started paying attention, and found he could do something like listening – except not – through the ground. He could almost-feel almost-see everyone running around, practicing, glowing lines like veins in every color imaginable running through their bodies.
So that’s how Chris knew my magic circuits were weak.
Furuya’s were too, which made him feel a little better.
When he revealed this latest skill to Chris, the older man looked almost proud. From Chris, that was praise. Eijun preened under it.
“It’s time for you to move up to working with other people,” Chris said.
“You?”
“No,” Chris said. “Someone who can handle it if you completely lose control and share or take too much magic. You’ll meet her tomorrow.”
That kept Eijun up guessing, annoying Masuko by stealing a pudding to calm his nerves. Masuko was still sending him wounded looks when they left the apartment. Eijun was walking too fast to really notice, excited to meet whoever Chris was bringing. It had been too long since he’d done magic with someone, and he was still chasing the high of pairing with Miyuki.
Chris was waiting with a pretty girl who didn’t even clear his shoulder, dark hair falling over her sundress. She turned to face him, shocking blue eyes boring into his.
“Sawamura,” Chris said. “Meet my fiancée, Konoe An.”
Eijun bowed to her on instinct. Even if she looked far warmer under the summer sun than Chris had two months ago in the spring, she looked far more dangerous than he ever had. She carried herself like a princess, and maybe with a name like that, she actually was one.
“He’s not that bad,” An commented, looking at Eijun. “Untrained, but his magic circuits are perfectly functional.”
Chris gave her a fond look, one that almost said if only you knew. There wasn’t quite life in his eyes, but there was warmth, and that was the happiest Eijun had ever seen him.
“Sit,” An commanded. They knelt in front of each other, and An held out her hands for him to take. “We’re going to be doing a simple magic balancing exercise. It’s the first step to being able to pair with anyone effectively. Most beginners try to take too much from their partner. Some try to overcompensate for that, and give too much. If you’re going to do one, I’d prefer the former; it’s easier to recover from.”
Eijun nodded. He more or less knew what he was supposed to be doing – that almost-feeling almost-seeing thing, but focusing in on An. It wasn’t hard anymore, finding her flow of what Eijun now recognized to be magic, the same bright blue as her eyes.
This was the part he wasn’t sure about, but he decided to not hesitate. They’d make him do it again no matter what. He reached for An’s magic through her hands, neither taking nor giving, just…looking. Feeling. Listening.
“Oh,” she breathed, and it was like a floodgate opened between them, making Eijun choke with too much. An ripped her hands out of his, breaking the flow.
“What was that?” Chris asked. “Take or give?”
“Neither, at first,” An said, eyes wide and voice breathless. “Until I said something, he was doing it perfectly.”
“That’s impossible.”
“But it’s true,” she said. “Sawamura-kun, did you do that on purpose?”
“I…” Eijun wasn’t even sure what he’d done. “I was just looking? Listening to you?”
“Incredible,” An said. “You did it entirely on instinct, and it worked.”
“It might have been beginner’s luck,” Chris pointed out. “Again.”
Once again, Eijun reached for An, just looking, just feeling her magic like a second pulse moving alongside the circuits that he was just now recognizing in himself.
Sawamura, she said, except she didn’t say it at all. Try to do something with the magic.
So he did, imagining all the magic flowing between them instead forming a ball around them, making it swirl and ebb like a water drop. His magic was gold, he noticed, almost the same color as his eyes, and it created beautiful designs against the blue.
“Sawamura,” she said, and once again it felt like too much was choking him. She took her hands away, and he opened his eyes. “Look.”
All around them, in a perfect circle the same size as the ball of their magic, daisies grew so thick that he could barely see the grass.
“I did that?” he asked. “We did that?”
An nodded. She turned to Chris.
“There seems to be some issue with disengaging, but maybe that’s a lack of control because we’re both witches,” she said. “My control is good, but I’m no familiar. He’s only taking at the end, though, never giving. It should be safe for you.”
“I can pair with you?” Eijun asked, looking to Chris.
“The coach is planning to scrimmage with the first string against the second string,” Chris said. “I’ve healed enough that if your instinct is to take rather than give, it won’t hurt me for at least a few innings. We’ll pair for that game.”
“One more thing,” An said. “You have explosive power. Use it for long range attacks. You’re meant to be a defensive position, so keep your defense up, but store your energy inside yourself for as long as you can, and then release it all at once to attack.”
“Will that work?” Eijun asked.
“You’ll have to practice,” An told him. “It’ll take some getting used to. But it was a strategy that worked well for me.”
“You played?”
“We have a girls’ team too, you know.”
Eijun stared at her, this tiny slip of a girl with the name of a princess and the power of a queen. He could understand why Chris was in love with her. They fit together so well.
And they were both scary when they wanted to be. An could probably throw him through a wall without breaking a sweat if she wanted to.
“The ace defends the team,” she said. “You’re here to protect them. Don’t forget that.”
***
“I’ve had an idea,” Chris said. They were walking to their position to defend the flag.
“Yeah?”
“I’ve been thinking about how you and An made that ring,” Chris said. “If we could put it to good use, it could be a good defensive tactic.”
“How so?”
“What if, instead of having daisies grow, you had something that would keep people from moving forward, like trees?”
Eijun considered.
“Trees are harder than flowers,” he said. “The wood takes more energy. I don’t think I could do that much.”
“Then what about vines?” Chris asked. “You could trip them up. Slowing them down is enough to let the fielders do the rest of the work.”
He could probably do that. The fielders would need all the help they could get, going up against the first string.
Eijun turned to face his fielders.
“They’ll be coming, and I’ll slow them down for you, so thank you for your hard work!” he shouted, pointing at the sky. Harucchi smiled at him from under his bangs, which Eijun appreciated.
The first string had the first attack, and they were so much faster than Eijun was expecting. He barely had time to breathe before Kuramochi and Onii-san were in his face, almost at the flag. He didn’t even have time to react before they were sent flying by an attack from Chris.
“Focus, Sawamura,” he commanded. “That’s only one strike for each of them, they’ll be back.”
Eijun nodded. Focus.
He was more prepared this time when Masuko came in from the side, attacking as Chris directed him.
They were doing okay, repelling attacks until the end of the inning without losing the flag once. When it was their turn, Chris kept them out of the action, leaving it to the strikers while they tried to set up for when the next offense would come. Eijun was careful not to make anything grow yet, trying not to tip them off.
When they came, it was the most satisfying thing to see them all trip. The fielders were able to take them all out at once, and the inning switched without them losing the flag once again.
The game continued. Eijun quickly realized that no matter how well he’d learned to work with Chris over the last two months, it still wasn’t enough to stand up to the first string. He’d managed to surprise them, but he was out of tricks, and they’d practiced more than him.
It was a frustrating realization. He’d have so much work to do after this game was over.
They were down in the last inning, trying to get as many points as they could, but the gap was too wide. Still, Eijun wanted to help.
The ace protects the team.
He couldn’t really see all the way across the field, especially not with obstacles in the way, but he realized for the first time in the game that he could feel. He closed his eyes, letting his magic range across the field.
Now he had a new problem. He didn’t recognize everyone’s magic enough to tell who was on which team. The only ones he really could recognize was Chris’ green next to him and Harucchi’s pink across the field.
Wait.
Maybe he couldn’t tell who was who, but he could sort of feel intent, and whoever had silver running through their body was about to knock Harucchi back.
Eijun didn’t even stop to think. He unleashed his magic directly at that person, Chris’ hand on his shoulder helping it stay steady as it flew across the field. He couldn’t see it hit, but he could feel it, and it gave Harucchi just enough time to grab the flag and make a run back across the middle line.
Just in time for Asou to get out. The game was over.
They hadn’t won, but the second string was looking at Eijun with new respect in their eyes, and he would be happy with that. He would be happier, though, with the light he could finally see shining in Chris’ eyes, and the praise.
“Good shot.”
Eijun threw his arm around Harucchi’s shoulders, laughing. Harucchi’s shoulders were shaking with laughter, too.
“We’ll all go to first string together!” he declared. He was too drunk on the kind of victory they’d achieved today to remember that there were only two spots open on the first string.
***
Eijun ran into Chris on his way to the meeting where their numbers would be assigned and two people would be moved up to first string. He was less than pleased to see the light in Chris’ eyes was dulled again.
“Are you injured again?” he asked. “It wasn’t because I…?”
“No, it’s not that,” Chris assured him. “I can’t get ahold of my friend Zaizen. I haven’t heard from him in days, and I’m starting to get worried.”
“Is it like him to just disappear like this?” Eijun asked. Chris shrugged.
“He’s always been a bit of a loner, and it’s not completely unlike him to vanish for a couple days at a time,” Chris said. “I’m probably worrying over nothing. But he was tracking something. He’s fae, and even though they have similar power levels to witches, they can do things witches can’t. He thought something was wrong, and he was looking into it.”
“Zaizen…” Eijun mused. He knew that name. “Oh! He’s the guy who helped you with An!”
Chris winced.
“Zaizen used to be on the team,” Chris explained. “He got injured at the beginning of our second year, and he was supposed to be better by now, but he hurt himself all over again helping me protect An. I owe him so much for that.”
Chris looked sad, and Eijun wasn’t entirely sure what to do about that.
“I’m sure he’ll turn up,” Eijun promised. “And besides, you shouldn’t be sad when you’re about to move up to first string!”
Chris did at least look a little amused at that.
“Should you really be saying that to a rival for a spot?” he asked.
“You’ll beat me for sure.” Eijun was certain. “You deserve it more than I do.”
Chris shook his head, but Eijun was still sure. Chris was more useful to the team than he was, and the coach used people who were useful. Eijun just had to hope he’d beat Harucchi. It wasn’t very nice, hoping for a friend to fail, but rivals were rivals.
When Harucchi was called for number nineteen, Eijun tried not to look too sad. Harucchi deserved this, had worked just as hard as he had. He would have to be happy for Harucchi and Chris.
“Number twenty, Sawamura,” Kataoka called. Eijun was frozen.
No. It’s not me you want. It’s supposed to be Chris…
“Go get your number, Sawamura,” Chris said, pushing him towards the front. Eijun didn’t want to move, but he couldn’t just stand still, so he forced his numb legs to move.
“Congratulations,” Kataoka told him, but Eijun wasn’t feeling very celebratory. He was mostly trying not to cry.
It wasn’t fair. Chris had worked harder for this than anyone, deserved this more than anyone. Eijun couldn’t stand to be the one who had taken it from him.
“I humbly apologize,” he said, bowing to Chris to hide his tears. “I am unworthy to ascend to first string in your place, and I cannot tell you how sorry I am…”
“Sawamura,” Chris cut him off. “I’m not ready to come back to first string.”
What?
“I could work with you for one game, but I can’t handle a summer on first string yet,” he said. “I still need more time to heal. Even if the coach had tried to move me up, I would have refused.”
“But senpai…”
“No buts,” Chris said. “Don’t cry, Sawamura. Represent everyone on the sidelines with pride. Prove that you’ve earned the right to play.”
Chris’s eyes flicked over his shoulder.
“There’s someone else you need to talk to,” he said. Eijun turned to see Miyuki standing there. He hadn’t really spoken to Miyuki much since their confrontation back in April, and truth be told, Miyuki still scared him a little. He tried to turn back to Chris, but Chris was already gone.
“I hope you’re ready to go through your paces,” Miyuki said, voice light. “I won’t go easy on you just because you’ve gotten in good with Chris-senpai.”
Eijun narrowed his eyes. Even if he didn’t deserve this, he wasn’t going to lose.
“Bring it.”

Can you write a short thing about Asahi and Noya for me??
Yuu Nishinoya is a good person. He makes sure to take care of his friend Hinata because he’s not only a good friend, he’s also a great senpai, and Hinata - even though he’ll never say this out loud because he does not want to break his other first year kouhais’ hearts - is his favorite.
He’s walking to Kageyama and Hinata’s class, counting how much money left he’d have if he paid for Hinata’s ice cream later when he hears a girl shout
Of course, ever so great Yuu, has to run faster than Usain Bolt.
He turns the corner.
From his position he can see a girl and a huge guy with long hair and a beard. Who’s probably the one who’s bothering the girl, Yuu assumes.
It doesn’t matter if he doesn’t reach 5 feet if he doesn’t style his hair in a certain way. So what if he’s tiny? Yuu punches like a Tyson.
“Hey!” He says menacingly, stomping his feet on the ground. “Hey! What do you think you’re doing, huh? I’m gonna kick your ass so - “
hard, you’re not gonna be able to sit for days, die in his throat, when he’s finally in between the girl and this - beast?
Uhm. Sure, the hair and the beard are quite intimidating, but the tall guy has soft, brown eyes, and he’s chewing on his lip worriedly. He actually doesn’t look dangerous at all. He’s more like a gentle giant.
“I was just trying to give this back..” The gentle giant says softly to him, revealing the handkerchief in his hand.
Yuu’s mouth forms an ‘o’.
“Yes,” the girl peeps behind him, accepting it, “I’m sorry. I just got a bit scared. I’m so so so sorry. This part of the hall was empty and -”
“No, it’s fine.” The gentle giant says, “I understand.” He laughs a little.
“Thank you so much, and I’m so so sorry,” the girl is bowing. When she’s done, she turns to Yuu, “and thanks to you too for coming! I’m sorry!”
“Oh, no, d-don’t,” Yuu stammers, blushing because she’s a nice girl, “it’s okay.”
She then leaves after another train of sorry.
“Uhm.” Yuu scratches his cheek, now that it’s just him and the gentle giant. He licks his lower lip. He looks up to make eye-contact with the gentle giant. “I owe you an apology.“
“I’ll tell you what I told her: don’t worry about it. It happens everytime. I understand.” The other smiles at him, soft and genuine, and Yuu feels like the biggest asshole in the universe. “It’s the height. And the beard.” He pauses, and then adds, “And the hair. At least, that’s what my friends told me. Maybe, I should try shaving and sporting short hair, but I quite like this style -”
“Yeah.” Yuu blurts out. “I mean, no. Like..if you like what you see in the mirror, then why change?” He shrugs. “I mean, look at my hair.”
The gentle giant does as he’s told. He lets out a chuckle, it’s not a mean one. “I think it’s cool.”
“Damn yes, it is!” Yuu agrees excitedly. No matter what his mom says, the tuff of hair bleached in blond was a genius idea.
The gentle giant smiles again, and this time the tiny Tanaka voice in Yuu’s head tells him immediately,
“damn, boy you should ask him out”.
Yes. Yes. That’s another great idea.
“Listen,” Yuu says, wearing a small smirk that Yamaguchi says makes him look like Banderas, “wait for me later, okay? I’ll treat you! Ice cream. Do you like ice cream? What a stupid question everyone loves ice -” And just when he’s talking about food, he remembers his kouhai. “ - cream. Oops.” He has to cancel his plan with Hinata first.
And speaking about Hinata, Yuu was supposed to visit his kouhai during recess.
“DAMN IT!” He exclaims. He has to go. Now. But first -
“May I know your name?” He asks with his best smile. Yessir, he’s going to be suave and use “may” instead of a brutal “tell me”.
The other, who for some reason looked taken aback before, looks even more taken aback now. The Yuu’s suave-ness is disarming, some times.
“Asahi,” the gentle giant says anyway, maybe a little late, but that’s fine. “Asahi Azumane.“
“I’m Nishinoya Yuu,” Yuu introduces himself, “and I’ll see you later, Asahi-san.” Should he wink or not? Mm, yeah, why not?
Asahi chokes when Yuu winks at him.
You’re so great Yuu senpai!, the Hinata voice in his head screams.

Boku no Hero's Power of Three
The Power of Three is an extremely common theme that has been frequently occurring in fiction, literature as a whole, and just language in general. With Boku no Hero Academia, this theme is displayed in an interesting manner. Utilizing its characters, we see a number of different power trios showcasing different dynamics. The use of trios is an great example of this theme and it is by far one of the most common in fiction. You’ve got teams like Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger; Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli; Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura; the list goes on. I mentioned Naruto of course simply because there is entire mechanic in that series that puts its massive cast of heroes into teams of threes. However, the difference between Naruto and Boku no Hero is this, these triads overlap. Our main trio in Boku no Hero consists of our main character Midoriya Izuku, Ochako Uraraka, and Tenya Iida. However, with the new season of the anime, we saw this triad blend together with other characters. The most important trio to emerge from this blending is Izuku, Katsuki Bakugo, and Shoto Todoroki. This trio became increasingly relevant to the series as these three serve as the series’ main rivals. These three are the topic of this article as I am actually pretty interested in this interesting take on the rival trope.
The rival character is almost always present in a shonen battle anime. Naruto has Sasuke, Goku has Vegeta, Melodias has Ban, Allen Walker has Yuu Kanda, as before the list goes on. But with Boku no Hero, our rivalry is a triangle which adds a unique dynamic that heavily resonates with the series’ theme of self betterment. The series has a lot to say about working for yourself to improve and grow stronger so that you can achieve your dreams. There is a heavy presence on competition as opposed to cooperation, as seen in shows like Naruto. Basically Boku no Hero get’s rid of the whole “power of friendship” bullshit that is incredibly prevalent in shonen battle anime. The main moral of Boku no Hero isn’t cooperation, but support. It preaches independance and vouches for a lifestyle where people make their own decisions and work for themselves while supporting their friends so they can do the same. This message stands at the forefront of our rivalry. Between these three larger than life heroes there is one common goal and that is to become the number one hero, but each one of them has different ways of going about achieving their goal. With Izuku, he overworks himself and pushes his limits constantly because he frankly has a surprising lack of self worth and constantly claims that he needs to work harder than anyone because of his circumstances. Bakugo on the other hand grew up with young Izuku, who was born Quirkless, and bullied him for said circumstances. However, Bakugo’s attitude changed when Izuku acquired a Quirk and was able to stand toe to toe against him. Bakugo has a bit of a superiority complex, but that does not get in the way of his sense of honor which we will get into later. This brings us to Shoto who has the most fleshed out motivation for striving for the number one spot. Shoto was born of a woman who was essentially forced into a marriage with number two hero Endeavor. This marriage was based purely off of the compatibility of Endeavor’s Quirk and his bride’s, hence Shoto’s half and half appearance. The troubled childhood he suffered through is what pushed him to suppress his powers and only ever use the Quirk he got from his mother. This is the source of his motivation as he essentially wants to make his father eat his words.
So to break things down even further let’s look at each character individually, starting with Izuku. As mentioned before, Izuku demonstrates a surprising lack of self worth for a shonen protagonist. The biggest part of this rivalry’s dynamic is how each member of the triangle sees themselves. Izuku constantly views himself as perpetually on the bottom of the totem pole. This lack of self worth is what forces him to constantly claim that he has to work harder than anyone else. Even when he makes progress he still sees himself as the bottom tier of the totem pole. This is what also creates his severe lack of self preservation as he is more than willing to sacrifice his body in order to achieve a victory. More often than not, his dedication turns to madness and forces him to get extremely reckless, despite his intelligence. This is more than likely why he irks his childhood rival, Bakugo. Bakugo can’t stand this lack of confidence Izuku has, because Bakugo sees Izuku as leagues ahead of himself. This plays heavily into Bakugo’s place in the rivalry.
For Bakugo, there is no meaning to a victory unless both parties use every ounce of strength they have to win. Bakugo, despite being a bit of an asshole in season one, proves to have a bit of a warrior’s code. Originally he just picked on Izuku because he was different. Izuku not having a Quirk was extremely rare and thus made him stand out. He was a prime target for the typical school bully. However, as they grew into their shoes at UA, Bakugo’s attitude shifted. Personally, I believe his hatred in Izuku is rooted in the same reason he resents his victory in the Sports Festival. Bakugo despises weakness. He especially hates it when the strong either don’t utilize their strength or view themselves as weak, this is evident in his views on both Izuku and Shoto. He doesn’t want to win when he himself hasn’t worked for it, or his opponent for that matter. He firmly believes that if you don’t work for your winnings then you haven’t won at all. This brings us to young Shoto.
Shoto Todoroki is by far the most troubled of the three rivals in Boku no Hero Academia. His backstory is tragic due to an abusive childhood he suffered through. The pressure of being forced to live up the expectations of his father is what drove him to become the subject of quite a lot of frustration from both Bakugo and Izuku. In season two we learn of how Todoroki was conceived and the sort of childhood he lived. He began intense and grueling physical training at the age of five and his mother did her best to support the troubled child. In short, Todoroki’s father is basically Heihachi from Tekken. This abusive childhood brewed a deep hatred towards Endeavor, which manifests in Todoroki vowing to never use his “other side.” This vow of his earns the scorn of his rivals and culminates in possibly one of the greatest fights in all of anime. (Yes I am dead serious.) Both Izuku and Bakugo are infuriated that Todoroki dares to aim for the number one spot while only using half his strength. They essentially point out that Todoroki’s brooding is one giant middle finger to everyone in the Sports Festival, especially those not in the hero class as they have had to work twice as hard as those in the Hero Course. Izuku manages to reach through to Todoroki and get him to use his fire, but afterwards Todoroki begins to doubt himself and the path he should take, forcing him to essentially forfeit to Bakugo. Bakugo of course despises this action taken by Todoroki.
All three of these characters have a common goal and different methods for reaching that goal, but there is a lot of clever foreshadowing in this season that hints to the relationship between these three deepening in surprising ways. The bond between Izuku and Todoroki is now obvious. It really only took one moment of the two of them smiling for the audience to realize that these two are gonna end up bros for life. As for Bakugo, things are a little more complex and take some reading into. We know from Izuku’s analysis that Bakugo has had a dramatic shift in character ever since the incident at USJ in season one. However, the overall attitude Bakugo has towards Izuku has changed as well. As I stated before, Bakugo despises weakness, but there is a moment where despite all the bullshit surrounding their relationship, Izuku comes through for Bakugo. During Bakugo’s fight against Shoto, Izuku encourages Shoto to use his flames once again. Bakugo insults Izuku in response with a smile on his face, though this time his insult seems more friendly than before. He seems to genuinely appreciate that Izuku wants to see Bakugo get what he wants and truly earn his victory. Not only that, but watching the fight between Izuku and Todoroki more than likely showed Bakugo what Izuku’s true resolve was like. Throughout the fight, Bakugo offers commentary several times, demonstrating his genuine interest in the match. They even show his astonishment when Izuku begins to push himself far beyond his limit. Even when Izuku tells Todoroki straight that everyone is fighting with everything they have to achieve their dream, there is a single panel of just Bakugo’s face. Bakugo was moved by this fight about as much as Todoroki was.
The rivalry between these three characters is by far one of the most interesting relationships I have seen among characters, and not only in anime. Because of the messages and themes of Boku no Hero Academia, the rivalry these characters share is possibly one of the most intense and also the most heartwarming. The fights these three had in the Sports Festival show just how far these three are willing to go for their dream of being number one. Not only that, it shows us that they will go just as far to support each other. Each one of these characters shows immense promise as the next generation of heroes, but they still have a long way to go. Izuku still needs to control his powers and learn restraint. Todoroki needs to settle his family matters and learn to accept all of his Quirk. Bakugo needs to learn to cool off and rely on his friends more, which he has already started to do since the cavalry battle earlier in the season. These characters have a lot of development in their future and I am so excited to see them grow together and become great heroes in the future of the series.
Boku no Hero Academia is shaping up to be one of best shonen series since the big three. It already has Shonen Jump’s number two spot and is still climbing. Who knows if it will surpass One Piece in rankings, but for an anime only like myself it is very obvious why this story grew in popularity. I cannot wait to see the second half of season two and am looking forward to seeing the next arc which I have heard is one of the best if not the best in the series. I hope you enjoyed the article.

Quirkless.
They’re the last people anyone expects to have a child without a quirk.
Neither of them can fully wrap their heads around it, but Ochako knows Katsuki is struggling far more than her.

Adjusting his tie in the mirror, Yuuta glanced over how the U.A. suit fit him. It was clean and fresh, ironed out by his mother. She told him he should keep it looking nice if possible, but he wasn’t sure if he would actually remember to do that. With how much work and training they would have to do, ironing out his suit was a low priority, but for now, he was pleased with how it looked.
He’d seen pictures of his parents in their uniforms plenty of times, but for some reason he felt dorky wearing his. He definitely didn’t look as classy as his mother or father.
First day of school, and he was excited to see who his teacher would be. He also wondered what class would be like; would they be active, or spend most of their time in the classroom? He glanced down at his phone, three messages blinking across the screen.
[Text from: Mom]: Good luck today, Yuuta!
[Text from: Dad]: You're going to do amazing. We're so proud.
He couldn't help but smile at the two texts from his parents. He sent loving texts back, and he hoped Arata did the same. He didn't understand why Arata had been so intense lately, but he couldn't keep trying to figure it out, not when he had school to worry about.
There was a knock on the door and Yuuta jumped. "J-Just a second!" He grabbed his bag and tucked his phone into his pocket, immediately running to go open it.
Shouhei was leaning against the wall, tapping at his phone. "You ready?" he smirked, looking at Yuuta. He couldn't help but blush, partially because he knew Shouhei was looking at him, but also because Shouhei himself looked far better in the suit than Yuuta did!
"Mhm!" he nodded, smiling at his boyfriend. He glanced down at Shouhei's hands; were they supposed to hold hands when they walked to class together? Were they even really officially together? Maybe he should ask?
"Yuu..." Shouhei said, nudging his side. "What are you freaking out about?"
"F-Freaking out!?" Yuuta said, blinking. "I-I'm not!"
"You are! Dumbass, I know what you do when you freak out; you get all nervous and jumpy!" Shouhei teased.
He sighed. "It's just... first day of school jitters!"
"Okay, okay," Shouhei snorted, buying the excuse. "You have nothing to be worried about. You're strong as hell, and we're both in the same class, so who cares! It's gonna be great."
"Who do you think our teacher is going to be?" he asked, the two of them making their way down the stairs and out of the door.
"I heard my Dad grumbling about it," Shouhei said, "so I wonder if it's going to be someone we know."
"Grumbling?" Yuuta asked, opening the door to follow Shouhei outside. "In a bad way?"
"I mean my Dad is always grumbling in a bad way," Shouhei snorted.
The two of them continued to make guesses as they walked to school. Yuuta prayed everything would go alright for the first day. Shouhei was right; they, at the very least, had each other, so even if everyone else was weird, it wouldn't be a big deal.
"A-Are you really not nervous, Shou?" Yuuta asked, staring at the front entrance to the large school.
"Nope! Why would I be?" Shouhei chuckled. "It's just school, Yuu. It's gonna be like middle school."
"I-I dunno," he shrugged. "A lot of people worked hard to get into this school," he said, scuffing his feet against the ground.
"Yeah? And so did you?"
"But we also have... our names behind us. I mean our dads are in the top 3 all the time, and our moms easily make the top 10... Won't people think we got in because of them?"
Shouhei frowned, leaning towards Yuuta. "To hell with 'em!" he said, waving his hand back and forth. "Who the hell cares what they think? The second we start training they're going to realize how serious we are and it has nothing to do with our names! Just because you're Todoroki Yuuta... that means nothing. You're you and you're strong."
Blushing, Yuuta took Shouhei's hand. "Thanks Shou. I wish I was a confident as you."
"Growing up around stubborn parents, you kinda just become confident," he chuckled, squeezing his hand.
"Fair," Yuuta said. He could imagine being around Katsuki all the time wasn't easy. The man was very intense, and apparently he'd mellowed out with his older age? Yuuta found it a little hard to believe.
"You good?" Shouhei asked.
"Yeah," Yuuta nodded, letting his fingers slip away from Shouhei's. If he could've walked into school clinging to him, he probably would have. Not the most adult thing to say, but Yuuta was nervous. He would be fine after a day or two, he was sure.
He walked into the classroom, taking his seat near the back, Shouhei was more near the middle, closer to the window. Yuuta glanced in front of him, forgetting he and Arata were in different classes this time. Normally his twin brother would be seated right in front of him but... not this time.
"Good morning, class!" A familiar cheery voice called out as Kirishima Mina stepped into the room.
Yuuta's eyes widened. The last thing he expected was Mina to be his teacher! No wonder Katsuki had been grumbling about it, Eijirou had probably been talking about it to him non-stop.
"I'm so excited to be here!" Mina said, smiling at the students. "My first class ever! I decided to take a small break from hero work," she began, "to work with all of you! I'm excited to see some familiar faces, and lots of new ones." She erupted into giggles, but then quickly placed her hands down on the table.
"I had the best time here at U.A, and I want to make it the best for you too!" she said. "That being said, I won't hesitate to kick your asses into shape!"
Honestly, knowing Mina, Yuuta believed that.
"There are lots of fun things on the horizon, the training camp, the sports fest!" she said, listing off a few. "But, don't think it'll all be fun and games! " she giggled.
Shouhei glanced behind himself, looking at Yuuta with a smirk. It was shocking, but Yuuta actually felt relieved, knowing Mina was his teacher, it made him look forward to school just a little more..
~~
"So, is it nice being alone in the house?" Kazu asked, pulling out his lunch, the two of them sitting on the roof.
Sayuri puffed out her lips. "I dunno if I would call it 'alone'." She let out a long huff, unfolding the small pouch she put her lunch in. "My parents are still there."
"I meant the only kid," Kazu muttered.
"Yeah, yeah. I just was giving you shit," she teased, reaching forward to poke Kazu's cheek with her chopstick.
"Ugh," he grunted and shook his head. "You know, you can really be the worst sometimes."
"I know," she giggled, shoving some rice into her mouth. "And... I dunno. I mean it's weird not having Shou around, but it's kinda nice, but still weird."
"So you really you have no idea how you feel." Wasn't that the truth? Kazu was so good at seeing right through her confusion and lack of understanding of her own damn emotions.
Truthfully she was jealous Shouhei was away. She did miss him, but mostly she was jealous he was actually getting to train to be a hero. If she had a quirk, she knew she would be the best fucking hero there was. Just like her parents and-
"Sayuri?"
"Huh?" she said, blinking when Kazu called out her name.
"You were spacing out pretty hard," Kazu chuckled.
"Ugh..." She snorted and ran her hand through her blonde hair. "I dunno, Kazu. It's just... it's weird. Like... I miss him, but also I'm just kinda... whatever about the whole thing."
Or at least she was trying to be. She was so tired of constantly going back and forth on her thoughts regarding her quirklessness. Some days she would wake up and feel like she could conquer the world, regardless of her status, and other days it was harder, like she didn't know who she could be.
Useless, and worthless to everyone, even her parents.
It was on those days she seemed to notice the way her father occasionally looked at her.
"Whatever?" Kazu asked, tilting his head. "That sounds like you're deflecting."
Sayuri groaned. "Kazu... can you act like a teenager for like, one second?" she said. "Why are you suddenly my goddamn therapist!?"
"S-Sorry!" he stammered, waving his hand quickly. "I-I just wanted to... make sure you were okay."
"Yeah, yeah," she grumbled. "I'm fine. It's gonna be another fun school year or whatever. At least at home I can actually focus, instead of listening to Shouhei and my Dad freaking out while they train in the backyard."
"Right-"
The door slammed, and three girls stormed out onto the roof. One of them was a tall blonde with cat-like eyes. The other two were shorter, one with a large nose, the other with long straw-like hair. Sayuri was horrible with names but she knew they were all bitches. "Well, well, well, if it isn't the loser squad. The nerd and the quirkless wonder! Get off of our roof." Sayuri was almost certain her name was Hayami, but she didn't care to try and remember.
"Your roof? Oh boy, mean girls, like I've never experienced this before," Sayuri said, rolling her eyes. She pushed herself up, her skirt flapping around her legs in the breeze.
Kazu blushed, "S-Sayu..."
"It's fine, Kazu," she muttered.
"You don't have your brother or the Todoroki twins to hide behind anymore," Hayami snapped. "You two know this our spot, if you think a new year at school would change anything... I'm so sick of your shitty attitude."
"Have you taken a look in the mirror lately?" Sayuri scoffed, folding her arms over her chest. "Like what you're doing right now isn't shitty..."
"Sayuri we should just go-"
"Kazu!" she hissed.
"Maybe you should consider listening to your friend," Hayami giggled. "I would hate for you to get in trouble."
"You know if you do this shit," Sayuri began, "you're going to get in trouble too."
"Everyone knows whose daughter you are, Bakugou," she snapped. "Everyone knows what your father is like. If I tell them you hurt me because you were jealous of my quirk, who do you think they're going to believe-"
Clenching her fist, Sayuri pulled her hand back and connected with the catgirl's face. Hayami fell backwards into the girl with a large nose, whimpers slipping from her lip, blood trickling down her jaw. "You stupid bitch!" she screamed. "You actually punched me."
"Yeah well, you were being a fuckin' bitch first so... don't dish it out if you can't take it."
Her nails elongated into claws, and she growled, lunging forward. Sayuri leaned back, attempting to dodge the swipe but the girl nicked her chin, a long scratch bleeding down her jawline.
"Sayuri!" Kazu yelled. "Let's just leave... I don't want you to get in trouble-"
"Shut up!" she said. "I'm not going to let these bitches push us around this year!" Yelling, she dashed towards the girl, dodging another swipe of her long claws. "You know," she panted, stumbling back. "You're not supposed to use your quirk at school."
"That must be so difficult for you," the girl purred. "Having to hold yours back... Oh wait!"
"Fuckin' shut your damn mouth!" she said. She tried to punch her again, but completely missed. "Don't you get tired of this shit? NGH!" She gasped when the girl kicked her to the ground, her nails digging into her back. Blood began to seep into her uniform, and she groaned, knowing this wasn't going to go over well with her parents.
Kazu gasped, standing up to run to her. "S-Sayuri!" he said. "Why can't you just leave us alone? We're just trying to enjoy lunch-"
"Because you two nerds need to learn your place. Just because your parents are amazing, doesn't mean you are!"
Helping Sayuri stand, she saw Kazu frown, though she winced at the pain on her back, glancing away from him.
"We have never treated anyone differently because of who our parents are," he snapped. "You're the only one treating people horribly!"
"Well someone has to put you in your place," she said, gently touching over her nails as she retracted them.
Sayuri glared at the group of girls, walking with Kazu back towards the building.
It sure was going to be one hell of a year.
~~
Arata stared out the window as he took the train to his grandfather's house. He glanced at his watch, knowing he wouldn't have as much time as he wanted. Stupid curfew. He wished he could just stay at his grandfather's house and keep training.
Already school was frustrating. He didn't care for the way his teacher spoke, as if things were going to be fun. He wanted to work hard and actually train to be better. If things were so 'fun', he would never get to better himself.
He brushed his fingers over the screen.
[Text from: Mom]: Good luck on your first day, Arata!
[Text from: Dad]: We're so proud of you. We love you.
[Text Mom & Dad]: Thanks.
It was such a short concise answer; he could practically see the disappointment on his mother's face.
He stepped off the train and made his way to Enji's house, stopping outside. After coming here for almost a week, he did feel like he was getting better. Contrary to everything his father had told him, his grandfather wasn't horrible. Admittedly, he didn't know why his father hated Enji so much. He'd never gone into much detail, it wasn't something they liked to talk about.
"Come in, Arata," Enji said, leading him inside to the training room. "You had your first day of school today?" he asked.
"Yeah..." he muttered, looking down at the ground. He gripped his bag in determination. "I want to be ready for the sports festival!" he said.
"Ah... yes... of course," Enji said. "Then you'll have to push yourself even harder. We'll need to train you to be better with colder temperatures. Your quirk sucks away your body heat; you need to be more prepared for that. You always stop when it gets too low. You also need to learn to create your crystals faster. It's too bad you inherited the creation style quirk like your mother."
The way Enji spoke of his mother made him wince. Momo was incredibly strong; for as long as Arata had watched her, she had incredible control over her quirk and utilized it quite well. He wasn't about to argue with the man.
"R-Right," he nodded, his heart thumping in his chest. He knew Yuuta was stronger, even if his brother didn't care to admit it. Despite his natural strength, Yuuta did have poor control over his flames.
"Good," he said. "Warm-up."
Enji was always quite blunt when it came to training, something Arata wasn't used to. When he worked on his quirk with his parents, they were always gentle, never pushing him. But he wanted to be better and this... this was the only way.
He began his warm-up stretches and created a few smaller crystals. They weren't very heated, only slightly warmed in order to save the heat he needed for later.
"We also need to work on you making larger crystals," he said.
Arata bit his lip. He knew he was terrible at that. He could sometimes make them all in a row but they were always small. It would've been easier if he could make them in a row, or flow more like lava... but he had no idea if that was even possible.
Enji's flamed burned so bright, just like his father's. Arata wished he had something like that... or that his quirk was easier to figure out, like Yuuta's. The idea of controlling his body temperature through flames seemed far easier.
"Try and make a larger crystal this first time, now that you've warmed yourself up," Enji stated, folding his arms over his chest.
"Okay," Arata nodded.
Generally he made them from his palm. Anytime he tried elsewhere they looked odd, and occasionally hurt. He held his palm out, allowing for a larger crystal to pop out, though it wasn't much bigger.
"Mmmm. You always use your palm. Use your chest," Enji said.
Arata swallowed. "I-I don't know if I can," he said. "It usually hurts when I try and do it from there."
"Try."
"Okay..." Arata said, slowly unbuttoning his shirt. He closed his eyes, sucking in a deep breath of air as he allowed the heat to pool forward in his chest, sweat slowly rolling down his brow. His lungs felt tight, pain shooting through his spine as he pushed a large crystal out, panting as he did it. It fell to the floor, steaming and larger than most of the things he'd made before.
Almost immediately, he fell to his knees. "Dammit..." he grunted.
"Good. Better," Enji said. "If you're in pain, push through it. This is how you get stronger."
Shivering, cold began to settle into his body. Arata pursed his lips, panting as he tried to keep his temperature stable. He pulled a lot of heat for the crystal in front of him, hadn't Enji noticed that? "Could you use your flame to warm the room?" Arata asked.
"No," Enji said flatly. "I won't be around to assist you at school or in the field. Plus, you should be able to make things like this with ease," he continued. "This is what you are training for. If you could create these faster, you could trap villains in your crystalized structure. You need to get better at creating various shapes as well."
Swallowing, Arata knew Enji was right. He just wish he had a better idea as to how to do that.
Why was it such a struggle to get his body to listen to him? There was so much to do, and the more he trained the farther away it all felt. Wasn't it supposed to be the other way around?
~~
"Oh, sweetheart. The first day?" Ochako said, standing in the hallway of the school. Sayuri had her gym t-shirt on, after the nurse had wrapped practically her entire body in bandages from the scratch on her back.
"Whatever, Mom, can we please just leave?" she asked, folding her arms over her chest. "I need to get out of here."
"It-It wasn't Sayuri's fault, Auntie!" Kazu stammered, looking between the two girls.
"I'm sure," Ochako sighed. "Are you going to be okay, Kazu? I'm going to take Sayuri home. If you would be so kind as to get all her assignments..."
"Mhm... Yeah..." he nodded, glancing down. "See you tomorrow, Sayu..."
"Yeah, bye," she said, trying her best not to completely snap at the other boy.
Holding her ripped uniform in her hand, Sayuri followed her mother out of the school in silence. She really had nothing to say to her, and quite frankly she knew her parents weren't going to be happy. Knowing them, they'd suggest switching schools again.
She climbed into the car, shutting the door and staring out the window, too embarrassed to look at her mother.
"Sayu... you know you can talk to me about these things."
"Yup," she said.
"Is this about your brother leaving-"
"No, Mom. Not everything has to do with Shouhei," she snapped.
"I wasn't implying that it did," Ochako said softly.
Sayuri almost wished it was her father, cause at least he wouldn't speak to her like she was some pathetic kicked puppy. "I'm fine, Mom."
"You were scratched by a girl at school because you punched her for a reason still unclear to me. You're not fine," Ochako said, far more stern.
"What's there to say!" Sayuri shrugged. "She was trying to kick me and Kazu off the roof. She said we needed to be put in our places because of who our parents are. So... I put her in hers."
"Well she obviously got a good hit on you too. For your own safety... you can't be doing things like this-"
"What, because I'm quirkless?!" she yelled. "Because I'm not... as strong as you and Dad and Shouhei. I tried to punch her and I missed. It was just fuckin' sloppy!"
"Sayuri, you know this has nothing to do with you being quirkless."
"Doesn't it always kinda have to do with that, Mom?" she snapped. "If I wasn't quirkless, those girls would leave me alone. If I wasn't quirkless, I could actually do something about it!"
"It's not all about that and you know it!" Ochako sighed, running her fingers through her hair. "I don't... want you getting into fights at school, but if it's a matter of protecting yourself then we can spar together more. How about that?"
"Gee thanks," Sayuri said, folding her arms over her chest. "I'd love a pity spar."
Ochako put the car in park, pulling into their driveway. "You're just like your father, so damn stubborn! I think it would be good for you to learn better techniques anyway," Ochako said. "It is not a 'pity spar'. I'm your mother, and I want to teach my daughter to protect herself."
"Whatever, Mom," Sayuri said, getting out of the car. She yanked her key out of her backpack, shoving it inside the door to their house as she stormed towards her room.
She was probably being irrational. Wasn't she always? It was embarrassing to talk about this kind of stuff with her mother. Her parents were both strong beyond measure, and while learning from her mother would be amazing... it made her feel even more pathetic.
She slammed her door shut and screamed, tossing her bag against her bed. She thought about her break, and how productive she felt working with Melissa and Kazu. Why couldn't school be like that too? Why couldn’t these fucking extra bitches just leave her alone?!
Crawling into bed, she tried to forget the whole day. She shut her eyes, hoping to doze off, but instead she stared at the wall, wondering how different life would be if she went to a different school. People were assholes everywhere. She couldn't imagine it would make much of a difference. There'd be another bitchy cat girl at a new school too.
It didn't take long for there to be a knock at the door, someone interrupting her peace and quiet. "Go away!"
"Not gonna happen, baby girl."
She froze. Her father.
She certainly hadn't been expecting to hear him. When had he even come home?
He turned the knob, opening the door as he slammed it shut behind him. "What the hell is going on?"
She yanked her blanket over her head, hiding even more. "Nothing," she snapped.
"Then why the hell were you bleeding at school? Your mother called me practically sobbing into the goddamn phone," Bakugou hissed. She felt his weight on her bed, sinking down.
"I don't wanna talk about it!" she yelled. "I think you of all people should understand that! You suck at talking, Dad!"
She heard him sigh. "Look baby girl, you can't be fucking fighting at school-"
"Says you!" she snapped, finally sitting up to glare at him.
"Oi!" he yelled. "I got into shitty fights at school and it sucked. I'm not telling you to let this girl stomp all over you. But your mother wants to help you and I want you to fucking be grateful!"
"Wow!" she yelled back. "Well, I'm sorry for not wanting your pity party!" she yelled. "I get that me being quirkless is pathetic and all to you-"
"Stop," he said flatly, looking down. "Enough of that bullshit."
"See!" she yelled. "You can't even look at me! And when you do I-I know that's what you're thinking!"
"That's never what I'm thinking, Sayuri!" he yelled back. He turned his head towards her, his red eyes glaring.
"Oh yeah? Then what are you thinking, enlighten me, Dad!"
She saw the way his fingers curled around the edge of the bed and his shoulders trembled slightly. Was he really so bothered by this?
He let out a frustrated breath. "I keep fuckin' thinking that I hate this! I hate it so fucking much. I hate seeing you come home with a fucking injury because some bitch at school felt like they had to make fun of you to feel better about themselves. It takes all of my fucking being to not storm over to that girl's house and blow it up! I'm the number one fucking hero and I can't even protect my own damn daughter!"
Sayuri blinked, unsure if she should breathe... unsure if he was actually done speaking. It was rare he spoke so candidly. "Dad..." she said.
"And... I..." he stopped himself. Instead of saying anything else, he sighed, running his fingers through his hair. "I just want to fuckin' keep you safe, baby girl and the older you get... the more I can't."
She wasn't expecting such an outburst, though she supposed it was her father. She swallowed and stared at him. "Dad... I... I'm sorry-"
"Those girls," he continued, cutting her off. "They should say sorry. For the things they do, and the things they say. Fuckin' shits!" he growled. "You don't ever have to apologize. You're strong and perfect just the way you are!"
"I-I know I just..." she bit her lip, trying not to cry. All of this would've been so much easier if she just had a stupid quirk. Even if it was a small one... then maybe she wouldn't cause her family so much pain.
She reached forward and gently wrapped her hand around Bakugou's, clinging to his fingers. "I'll train with Mom. I'll... talk to her at dinner."
"Good," he muttered. "Your mother is kick ass, she'll teach you how to throw a real good punch."
"Yeah... yeah... I know," she said. She leaned forward to rest her forehead against his shoulder, letting a few tears roll down from her eyes. Why couldn’t she be normal so they could all stop worrying about her?

Full fic under the cut
Yuuta stood at the door to his brother's room. He knew they were far too old to be sharing a room, but sometimes he missed it.
He missed seeing Arata's messy red and black hair tossed about when he jolted up from his sleep, racing Yuuta to see who could get to the kitchen first. He missed staying up past their bedtime and giggling about how their parents would never find out.
He missed being friends with Arata.
Ever since middle school things had been... like this. Arata asked for his own room, and he moved all his stuff into one of the extra office spaces down the hall. He focused on his studies and trained his quirk to his limits practically everyday. Yuuta sometimes wished he had the drive and focus his brother did... but Arata rarely offered or asked to do anything with Yuuta or Shouhei anymore. It was a tradeoff, Yuuta supposed.
They hadn't talked since the acceptance letters. When middle school ended and they graduated, Arata spent most of his days prepping to move and working on his quirk. Occasionally he would go out for a few hours and come home looking tired before heading straight to his room.
Yuuta wanted to know he was okay.
That, and he hated seeing how stressed out his mother was about the whole ordeal.
Yuuta had heard her various times from down the hall, calling to him.
"Arata? Can we talk?"
"Arata, I wanted to discuss packing for U.A with you."
"Arata, I had some questions-"
He rarely answered, or would open his door for a few moments before disappearing back into his room.
"Yuu, please talk to your brother," Momo whispered. Her dark eyes looked tired, like she was desperate for more answers.
And though Yuuta nodded, he wasn't sure he would have much more luck talking to his moody brother. Which is why he stood in front of his door, wanting to knock.
He took a deep breath, wishing he wasn't so nervous about speaking to his twin brother. Maybe he just needed to be a little more forward, like Arata sometimes was! He could meet him on his level.
He knocked softly. "Arata, it's Yuu, can we talk?"
Silence. Maybe Arata was secretly really nervous about moving away from home. Yuuta sure was. They were so close to the school and while he liked the thought of living away, especially close to Shouhei, he was also terrified of leaving the comfort of his own home. What if he was terrible? What if he didn't belong in the hero class? What if they hated him? What if they assume he just got in because of Shouto and Creati?
Maybe Arata was asking himself these questions too... though he had never been quite as anxious as Yuuta.
He knocked again. "Ara-"
The door opened and Arata leaned against the frame. "What Yuu?" he asked, frowning.
"Hey! You opened!" he said and stepped over him, flopping down on Arata's bed.
It only made his brother frown more.
"Yuuta... what the hell are you doing?"
"Aw c'mon Arata! Don't be so grouchy! I just... missed you is all!" he shrugged. "We're gonna be moving in soon and... it's just weird."
A flash of sadness danced across his blue eyes, but then he looked away, huffing. "It's not weird. We're not little kids anymore, Yuuta."
Yuuta sighed, pulling his teeth over his lips. "Yeah... I guess we're not..." he muttered softly. "You just... seem upset and I was wondering if you're nervous."
"I'm not upset."
"But you barely come out of your room-"
"Who are you? Mom?" he snapped, taking a seat as his desk chair. His blue eyes were sharp as he stared at a flabbergasted Yuuta.
"Sorry..." he mumbled. "I didn't realize it was such a bad thing to want to talk to your twin brother."
"Are you trying to make me feel guilty?" he asked, turning back towards his laptop. "It's not going to work."
"Arata... I don't understand why you're so mad... we're both going to U.A! It's been our dream with Shouhei since we were little kids! We used to talk about it all the time! Are you just... mad we're not in the same class?"
"No, fuck... Yuuta just... I just want to focus, okay?" he said. "I want to be stronger. We're... we're Todorokis!" he said, curling his hand over the back of his chair. "I want to be able to use my quirk more freely. I want to prove that I..." he shakes his head. "It's not the sort of thing that matters to you."
"But... Arata you're so strong," Yuuta urged. "You're talented and funny and... I dunno, I miss my brother..."
"You can see me whenever you want!" he said, rolling his eyes.
"Not... really..." he mumbled. "You lock yourself up in here and I... I dunno. I just want to talk to you about being nervous and excited for U.A. and I wanted to tell you that... Shouhei..." he trailed off, his cheeks turning red as he remember the small kiss on the slide.
Arata raised his eyebrow. "I told you, I'm studying. If you really need to talk to me then, I dunno, knock like today? And what the hell is that face, what about Shouhei?"
"We... he..."
"Fucked you?" Arata asked bluntly.
"W-WHAT?!" Yuuta screamed and waved his arms frantically. "N-No! We just kissed, just a kiss!"
"Oh. Finally," Arata shrugged, rolling his eyes at Yuuta flailing on his bed.
"F-Finally?!"
"Yeah, you two have been gay for each other since we were kids. Duh," Arata said. "Did you just come in here to tell me something I probably could've figured out on my own?"
"A-Arata... Maybe don't say it like that..." Yuuta sighed, shaking his head. "A-And don't tell Mom and Dad! I have to figure out a way to tell them." It was a stupid request, since Arata was barely talking to their parents anyway.
"Pretty sure they already know too," Arata shrugged again.
"W-WHAT?!" Yuuta said. "But I haven't told anyone that we kissed!"
"No... I just meant... they probably know you like Shouhei," Arata muttered, leaning over the edge of his chair. He pushed out and grabbed his backpack, swinging it over his shoulder.
"They do?" Yuuta asked, tilting his head to the side, his nose wrinkling in confusion.
"You're not a very subtle person Yuuta," Arata said, pushing his feet into his boots.
"Hey..." he mumbled, his cheeks heating up once more. "Where are you going exactly?"
"Training," he shrugged.
"I-I'll come with you!" Yuuta said, pushing himself off the bed. He wasn't exactly in the mood, but Arata seemed to be acting semi-normal and-
"No," he said. "I want to do this without you."
The words hurt deeper than Yuuta realized they would.
"O-Oh... okay..." he said. Just as he thought things would maybe be okay, Arata was walking out the door, leaving him behind yet again.
~~
"Sayuri-chan! So good to see you!" Deku's smile was bright as he opened the door to their large house, allowing her to step inside.
She slipped off her shoes and bowed her head. "Uncle Deku! Hi!"
Sayuri couldn't remember a time when the Midoriyas weren't a part of her life. Deku and her mother were close friends and though her father often spoke of their rivalry, she knew he greatly respected the man and they were mostly on good terms. Despite hardships they apparently had together as children, they got along now... for the most part.
"Sayuri!" Kazu's voice could be heard as he skirted around the corner, his socks slipping on the floor. "Mom and I are in the basement! You gotta come see this!" He ran forward and wrapped his hand around her wrist, his green eyes twinkling brightly.
Sayuri's cheeks flushed. Kazu's hand was warm, and he looked so cute being so excited like this.
"Okay!" she smiled. "See ya' Deku."
"Kazu, please don't slip on the floor..." Deku muttered. "And please don't take Sayu-chan with you. If you hurt Kacchan's daughter, I'll never hear the end of it."
"Dad, we're fine! I promise," he said. "I just got excited!"
"Okay, okay, go help your mother," he chuckled.
"Yes!" He pulled Sayuri back around the corner, tugging her towards the basement where Melissa's lab was.
"What's your mom working on?" Sayuri asked.
"Actually something for your mom!" Kazu said. "We're working on developing a gravity belt that can measure where your mom's center of gravity is so she can recalibrate herself easier."
"She has been getting more nauseous lately," Sayuri nodded. "She claims it's because she's 'getting old'."
"Your mom isn't even that old..." Kazu said, opening the door to the lab in the basement.
"That's what I kept telling her but she got all dramatic and insisted it was true."
"What did your dad say?" Kazu snorted.
"Oh he yelled at her and said she wasn't old. Also he said something about how she was technically insulting them both since they're the same age," she laughed, following Kazu down the small corridor to greet his mother.
"You know," Melissa said, pushing her goggles up when she opened the door. "I'm two years older than your parents, so if anyone should be insulted, it's me."
"Mom!" Kazu said, shaking his head. "You're not old."
"Mmm I'm getting to that age!" she giggled, letting them both step in the room.
"What age?"
"Old age," she whispered. "This is what happens when you realize you have a teenage son now."
"Mom, we're still in middle school."
"I know, I know," Melissa waved her hand.
"I promise you're not old Aunt Melissa," Sayuri giggled, laughing at the woman. Her long blonde hair was tied up in a ponytail, making it easier for her to put her goggles on.
"You both said the right answer," she winked. "So, Sayu-chan, are you ready to have a break full of lab work? I'm working on this for your mother, and I have a bunch of other requests. I told Kazu I think you two are plenty old and smart enough to assist me with this."
Sayuri's face lit up. Actually getting to help in the lab sounded fun. Melissa was incredibly talented, together her and Mei ran Melissa's company, working on upgrades for the pros. Occasionally however, Melissa worked privately in her lab when it came to upgrades for her friends.
It wasn't the first time Sayuri had been here. She often enjoyed watching Melissa work. It reminded her that maybe she was normal and not as weird as everyone viewed her. Melissa lived her entire life quirkless, and it never seemed to bother her.
Sayuri was jealous.
"We have a whole list here," Kazu said, holding his finger in front of the floating piece of paper. It was really the only thing Kazu used his quirk for, and even then he rarely used it. The levitation usually wore off if he didn't hold his finger up against it.
"Great!" Sayuri smiled.
"Perfect, let's get you both started," Melissa nodded, and began to set up the side work station for them to test out whatever they wanted.
Occasionally, Melissa would pause and ask Sayuri questions about her mother, and then she would go back to it, allowing Kazu and Sayuri to work with a temperature gauge for Shouto.
Working in the lab made Sayuri feel like she could actually do something. None of them needed their quirks in there, and she only had to use her brain. The one thing she was actually good at doing. Usually.
"I heard your brother got into U.A," Melissa said, hunched over her desk, fiddling with a few things on the belt. "I'm sure he was very excited."
"O-Oh! Yeah we definitely celebrated. My mom has been in full panic mode about him moving into the dorms," Sayuri said, slightly taken aback. She'd been so focused, she wasn't expecting to have to talk about Shouhei today. She didn't really want to talk about Shouhei.
"Well we'll have to tell him congratulations when we see him," Melissa chuckled, still focused on her work.
Kazu tilted his head back and forth. "I'm going to go upstairs and get some ice... and boil some water. I wanna test out how accurate the temperature is on this..." he said, looking at the strange thermometer device they were working on.
"Alright!" Sayuri said. "I'll wait."
Kazu dashed towards the entrance, heading upstairs, which left Sayuri alone with Melissa.
It wasn't something she minded, in all honesty Melissa was one of her favorite people. She was someone Sayuri felt she could actually connect with and she gave her hope for the future... well, her future.
"How are you feeling about your brother?" Melissa asked, pulling back to push up her goggles. Her eyes were warm, the question very genuine.
"I-I'm happy for him," she said, shrugging. "I'm not gonna miss have his obnoxious ass in the house!"
"Oh really?" Melissa giggled.
"No way!" Sayuri shook her head.
She put down her screwdriver and pulled a stool over, taking a seat. "Kazu has told me about some of the rude kids at school. I know Shouhei and Yuuta often stood up for you. You don't have to tell me about it if you don't want, but I guess I wanted you to know that I've been there."
Sayuri immediately blushed, embarrassed Melissa knew about the shameful things that happened at school.
She sighed. "Yeah, people are assholes." She lifted her shoulders shrugging. There wasn’t much she could do about it.
"They are," Melissa nodded. "I got teased a lot in middle school, but by the time I got to high school, I was so much smarter than all of them I didn't care," she smiled.
Sayuri ran her finger along the edge of the desk. She wished it was that simple... not that she wasn't smart, she was one of the top students in their class. It was just... difficult to maintain when she felt so left behind in so many other aspects of her life.
"It's fine," she shrugged, biting down on her lip. "They just... think they can come at me because of... my parents."
Melissa snorted. "I would think it would be the opposite. No one would want to face the wrath of Ground Zero."
Both girls laughed. "No they just say things about how they're probably ashamed of me and stuff and it's stupid because I know... they're not," she said. Though sometimes she did wonder about her father.
"Not at all. They're both very proud of you. I just want you to stay confident and know that you're a very gifted young woman, Sayuri," Melissa said gently. "You're incredibly smart and if you keep heading in this direction, Mei and I would gladly take you on. If this is what you want."
If that was what she wanted... Sayuri didn't want to look sad exactly... but the truth was she had no idea what she wanted, or where she expected her life to go.
"It was something that took me a while to figure out but... even without a quirk, you and I both still have talents," Melissa explained. "I will make sure you see that by the end of this break!"
"Thanks." Sayuri couldn't help but smile. She was thankful to know Melissa and know someone who was almost exactly the same as her.
She honestly wished she could live in the damn lab. At least there she felt like she was truly worth something.
~~
"Again."
Enji's voice was loud, louder than Arata remembered it being. Beads of sweat rolled down his forehead, his body shivering, his body temperature dangerously low. His mother always warned him of this, but his grandfather didn't seem to care much.
"O-Okay..." he winced, pushing himself up to create more crystals.
"Are you tired, Arata?" Enji asked, keeping his arms folded over his chest.
"No..."
"Mmm... Enough," Enji muttered, stepping out of the training room.
Arata's face fell. He swallowed, trying to pull in a few more breaths, desperate to fill his lungs. "G-Grandfather, I can keep going!"
"You can barely stand up. Your body is shutting down."
"..." Arata curled his fist against the wooden floor. "What the hell am I supposed to do then?"
"Get stronger," Enji stated. "That's why you're here, isn't it?"
Arata nodded. What a disappointment he was... his body couldn't even hold out for this long.
"Y-Yeah..." he stammered, biting his lip so not to cry in front of the older man.
"You're weak. You're not used to this sort of training. I will help you, Arata, but it will push you."
"I don't care," he growled. "I want to be stronger."
"You will be," Enji muttered, his eyes sharp, the flames burning against his beard and upper lip.
Arata sat back, still panting as his body temperature slowly began to rise. He needed to monitor it better. His quirk made it too easy for his temperature to drop, the fire crystals sucking all the heat from his body.
"Grandfather..." he whispered. "How do you... stay cool when you're always... on fire like that?" His own father never let his flames out like his grandfather. Probably on purpose. Arata knew his father wasn't the biggest fan of Endeavor.
Guilt washed over Arata, just thinking about it. His father would be mad the moment he found out he chose to train with his grandfather. This was everything his father didn't want... and yet...
Arata didn't know who else would push him enough to get stronger.
"My quirk is very different from yours. You take after your mother," Enji stated. "My body is immune to the heat." Arata felt his heart sink a bit. Did Enji look at him as lesser than say, Yuuta, whose quirk was far closer to his own?
Why was Yuuta always accidentally better than him?
"I want to go again," he breathed, pushing himself up.
"No. You're going home, Arata. Pack up your things. I will see you tomorrow."
"But-"
"If you want me to train you, you will not argue with me. Make sure you exercise tomorrow before you come here," he stated.
Arata sighed. Over the past few days of training with his grandfather, he had come to learn very quickly that disobeying would get him yelled at and he was not to argue with the man unless he wanted to be forced to push himself even harder.
Not that Arata minded pushing himself. It was part of the whole reason he even came here.
"Thank you for all your hard work, Grandfather," Arata said, bowing his head as he grabbed his bag.
"Tomorrow then," Enji said dismissively.
"Yeah... tomorrow."
Arata stepped out of the house, slinging his backpack over his shoulder.
His body still felt cold, so he zipped up his rain jacket as far as it would go. He looked a little foolish, but it was late enough no one would probably notice or care.
He was going to wake up extra early tomorrow morning and go for a jog. He had to be in better shape if he wanted to do well during these training sessions too.
Arata was going to get stronger, and nothing was going to stop him.
When he stepped into his house and slipped off his shoes, he was surprised to see his father still in the living area, scrolling through his phone.
"Arata," Shouto said, looking up from the device.
"Hey Dad," he nodded and began to walk towards his room.
"Take a seat," he said.
Momentarily, Arata froze. Did his father know? Had Enij told him? He doubted it... his father and grandfather rarely spoke.
He swallowed. "You know, Dad, I'm pretty tired. I gotta get to bed, I wanna go for a run in the morning-"
"Arata, you can sit for one moment with me."
He pursed his lips and took a deep breath, making his way over to sit with his father. "Kinda surprised you're awake-"
"I was waiting for you," Shouto said, cutting him off.
"Oh..."
"Arata," Shouto began. "I don't know what is going on in your head right now. I don't expect you to tell me. You're about to be in high school and living on your own. You and your brother are getting more independent."
"Yeah, I mean, we're not kids anymore Dad," Arata muttered, folding his arms across his chest.
"I understand that. But... you are worrying your mother and I. We know how lively and energetic you can be and it seems like more often than not, you are going out for long hours or locking yourself in your room," Shouto stated. "If something is going on, we want you to speak to us. Your mother and I are always happy to listen-"
"Nothing is going on, Dad," Arata said, running his hand through his hair. "I just am putting my energy into new things. It's not a big deal. I want to be ready for U.A."
"I understand that," Shouto said, sighing. He wasn't buying Arata's excuse even for a minute. "I just... I want you to know that we are always here for you... no matter what. Your mother is too."
"Yeah I get it..." he muttered. "Can I go to bed now?"
Shouto sighed again. "Yes. From now on, please text your mother and I to let us know where you're going and when you'll be home."
"Dad, I'm about to be living in the dorms-"
"Right now you're living with us. Please... respect our wishes," he said softly.
Arata bit his lip. He would probably have to make something up. The idea of lying to his father didn't appeal to him, but if he was going to make up these rules... then... so be it. "Yeah... alright," he said.
"Thank you," Shouto muttered. He looked as if he wanted to say more, but based on Arata's responses, maybe he figured out it wasn't worth his breath.
"Good night, Dad," Arata said, nodding his head.
"Night, Arata."
Even if Shouto seemed disappointed in him now, soon Arata knew he would make him so damn proud.
~~
"I'm home!" Sayuri called out, slipping her shoes off and dropping her bag in the front entrance.
"Don't leave your bag there, honey!" Ochako's voice called from the kitchen.
She rolled her eyes and carried her bag with her as she walked into the kitchen, seeing Ochako hovering over the stove. "Dad is letting you cook tonight?"
"Hush! I can cook!" Ochako said. "He's out with your brother in the yard. They're training. I swear if he burns down ANY of the flowers I planted earlier this season, I will kill him."
Sayuri giggled softly and made her way towards her room, tossing her bag inside. "He, uh, must be pretty excited."
"Mhm. It's stressing me out plenty!" Ochako chuckled, taking a seat at the table while she let the food slow cook on the stove. "I spent most of today gathering things he'll need for his dorm room, that he of course, never thought about," she sighed. "Boys."
"Boys..." Sayuri muttered, sitting at the table with her mother.
"But enough about that, how was working with Melissa?" she asked.
"It was fun," she said. "We were working on your belt."
"Ugh," Ochako sighed. "The belt that proves I'm getting old!"
"Mom!" Sayuri rolled her eyes. "That's not even true."
"Pretty soon my time will be up," she said and flopped against the table.
"Mom," Sayuri whined. "Stop being so damn dramatic!"
"Okay, okay..." she pushed herself up. "Are you going to be helping her for most of the break?"
"Mhm..." Sayuri nodded. "She, uh, she said I was very talented and gifted."
"Well that isn't anything new. You've always been so smart, sweetheart," Ochako smiled.
"She said her and Mei would probably take me on once I was done with school. I-If I wanted..." she mumbled.
Ochako's face brightened immediately. "Of course they would!" she smiled. She stood up and made her way around the table to cup her cheeks. "You are the smartest girl I know, and I'm so proud of you."
"Thanks, Mom," Sayuri said, leaning against her.
"Whatever you choose to do, you know your father and I will be happy to support you. We're always so proud of you and your brother. I think... we have the most perfect kids," she said and gently tapped her nose.
"Shut up, Mom! You have to say that!" Sayuri laughed softly, rolling her eyes.
"No I don't. If you two were villains, I would have to fight you."
Sayuri's eyes widened. "I think Dad would kill us if we were villains."
"Most likely- AH!" Ochako gasped, running over to the stove. "I can't burn down your father's kitchen."
Sayuri giggled at her mother. She really wanted to be happy about what she said, and what Melissa said, but something about it made her heart feel heavy.
She wished she could see the future so she could know that eventually she wouldn't feel so lost... that she could know, even like this, she would end up happy.
