Irina Cisternino, a PhD candidate of Stony Brooke University, is writing their research on topics related to technology, art and fandom. You can participate by filling out a survey and additionally, signing up for an interview. The survey is expected to last until at least the end of April, those, who signed up for the interview, will be contacted later. You need to be at least 18 years old to participate in either, be able to understand and speak English and identify as a fan.

Cancer Earth Rooster Female: Strong and rock solid. You don’t often level those two traits at a Cancerian girl, but they are two of this girl’s most prevalent traits. She is a complete and utter all-rounder. She could be businesswoman of the year, a wonderful mother of six or an Oscar-winning actress. Hell, she could be all three. She has that much inner strength, energy and ability. The wonderful thing about her, too, is that she’ll be hugely modest to boot. The Rooster is a boastful character, make no mistake, but the Cancer/Earth combo nullifies somewhat the Rooster’s showy ego - and they’re better for it. Cancerian girls are not known for their ambition, but this one possesses an inner desire to succeed (the Rooster insists on it) and, more often than not, she does. She’ll persevere and work until she achieves her goals. Her work ethic is certainly something to be greatly admired. She’s probably too sensible for her own good, really. She could do with the odd night of reckless decadence - and there may be one or two in the cupboard - but you’d never know it, these girls are private and prefer to spend time with those they treasure. They’re one-on-one kids, group frivolity ain’t really their “thing”. Understated they may be, but they’re beautiful people. Male: Hmm, quite a serious fella this one. There is a definite intensity present. There is no doubt that the Earth element completely stabilises the ordinarily emotional Cancerian man - and the Rooster virtually nullifies Cancerian man’s inherent insecurities. So we’re left with the original thinking Cancer, the grounded Earth and the ambitious Rooster. Gotta be a good mix? Certainly is, in terms of career at least. This boy could set the world alight in terms of his career. He could be anything. His ambition and drive and single-minded determination doesn’t really allow this boy to fall short and he very rarely does. He is complex, may even come across as a little shy, but his inner strength and belief should never be under-estimated. He is serious at first, it takes him a long, long, time to “open up”, he is serious per se, really - but his heart is huge. He is, in fact, a remarkably selfless individual for one so driven. There are many strings to his bow and it often takes a lifetime for them to come to light - but when they do, they’re all positive. You’ll never really know what the hell he’s thinking, he’s probably extremely private. Rest assured though, he’s brilliantly talented and has an understatedly beautiful character to match. Cancer Metal Rooster Female: Hmm, this isn’t straightforward. When this one is good, she’s lovely - but on an “off” day this one can blow. The Metal Rooster is hard as nails, and is about as self-obsessed as they come, the Cancerian side cares deeply about the welfare of others and isn’t remotely self-obsessed. Which creates…? A confused character, really. Some days she’s so single-minded, determined and ambitious - and on others she’ll be thinking, “is this what I really want?” There is no doubting the strength of character. The belief is more or less a constant - until the questioning Cancerian side kicks in, posing all sorts of questions the Metal Rooster doesn’t want to contend with. She’s a wonderfully engaging woman, erudite and charming and sociable, but on the inside is a whirring mass of contradictions. She handles everything with total aplomb, you’d never suspect for a moment what’s going on underneath. She’s also far more sensitive than you’d ever imagine. She’s so impressive on so many levels - and is far lovelier, more understanding and compassionate than anyone gives her credit for. Male: Hmm, bit of a maverick, this one. The Metal Rooster is an all-singing, all-strutting, cocky cockerel, who would just love to rule the world and would like everyone to applaud when he achieves said goal. However, the Cancerian is a self-doubting, sensitive soul that isn’t really convinced by the Metal Rooster’s razzmatazz. This does cause quite some inner angst. This kinda manifests itself in the form of a tempestuous nature. This one is feisty, all right - if he doesn’t get his way you’ll know about it. He’s pretty belligerent and egocentric but he’s also very commanding, has an authoritative charm and somehow manages to weedle life “his” way. Metal Roosters are pretty ruthless and undilutedly ambitious - but the Cancer side does lessen these traits a little and imbues them with a degree of compassion. Alas, this is rarely seen in the workplace. He’s a real character, who can flit from being unnervingly sweet and thoughtful to giving you both barrels at close quarters and then re-loading. Impressively feisty. Cancer Water Rooster Female: Adorable girl. Anything but straightforward though, anything but. Creatively, she has the world at her feet. Water Roosters are (for me) without question the most creatively talented people in Chinese astrology. And, considering their ability, they’re remarkably modest. Add the delightful Cancerian girl into the mix and you are presented with a woman with such natural charm, beauty, modesty and ability, you’re pretty much blessed just to know her. What you should DO however, is cherish her daily.She’ll love solitude, may even appear unhappy at times, and you will never really know what this one is truly thinking. I can tell you this, she’s perfectly content, all Water Roosters are, they just don’t appear so. They are a contradiction in many respects. They want, need and desire love, encouragement and reassurance every minute of every day - would they let you know that? No chance. No, you need to be something akin to a mind-reader to fathom these unutterably beautiful creatures. They need to live in the country with an easel, a bunch of animals and 45 instruments - That is Cancerian Water Rooster girl’s Nirvana. Male: Creative genius? Yes, quite possibly. Let’s not pretend for one moment this is the most straightforward character you’ll ever encounter. You’ll never have a clue what he is truly thinking, ever. He’ll probably appear distant at times, and will be drawn to solitude. The irony is, he’s one of the most loving boys you’ll stroll across - and requires so much reassurance and encouragement it could morph into a full-time job. The mad thing though? You’d never know it. He won’t tell you he needs all this encouragement, he won’t give the impression he does - and even when you overload him with it, he won’t exactly do a mini-fandango as a show of appreciation. Yeah, you got it, COMPLEX. But he’s so creatively talented, his left big toe has more ability than your average workaday artist. He must be let loose creatively and he’ll deliver every time. Strap this boy to a desk, throw him a meaningless number-cruching task - and just watch him shrivel and die before your eyes. No, this boy has to be in the country - which country doesn’t matter - just take him there and he’ll create. Gentle, sensitive, sweet-natured, confusing and absolutely brilliantly talented. Cancer Wood Rooster Female: Quite a tough cookie, really. She has strength, compassion and a love of people. Great traits. She has quite a commanding presence for a Cancerian girl. Both the Wood Rooster and Cancer are secretive, so for all her social assets and ease around others, this is certainly one of the more mysterious characters that abound. She just has a way of manipulating the conversation away from herself. It’s not because she neccessarily has anything to hide, she just possesses this inherent need for privacy - we should respect it, she’ll treasure you more if you do. Whether this girl chooses a career or plumps for motherhood is a “big” question. The Rooster craves recognition, but the private Cancer girl will have definite yearnings towards motherhood - it’s not a call I’d like to make and nor would she. Her real skill lies in bringing people together - big social events - she loves it and it makes her feel good that she’s bringing happiness into others’ lives (the sweet-natured, albeit egotistical Wood Rooster adores helping others). She may have made a fortune doing just that. But this secretive mistress wouldn’t let on. Mysteriously impressive. Male: Bit of a maverick this one. Some days he’s open, sociable and literally the life and soul of any given event. Then, on another day, he could easily be more withdrawn and secretive. Really, you’ll never actually know what this one is thinking. But then you don’t really need to, because he’s always on the go, always up to something. The discussion is never allowed to get to a point where you start asking pertinent questions - it’s as if he does it deliberately. He’s a weird mix. sensitive and insecure (Cancer), hugely sociable (Wood and Rooster) and has a not insubstantial ego and a need to succeed (Rooster). That in itself paints a picture of contradictions. However, his charisma, his energy, his lust for life and his compassionate Cancerian traits make for one very popular boy. He’s a bit of a player, to be truthful, most Wood Roosters are (hence that secretive trait). He’s also got some very serious creative ability concealed (possibly latently) deep within. Life will never ever be dull when this charisma kid is around. He’ll make you smile, he’ll bring you joy at times too, but don’t ever try and fathom him, it’s a journey down “pointless avenue”. Cancer Fire Rooster Female: Complex she may be, but she’s a right laugh. This woman is actually very strong indeed - and although she can be feisty as hell on a bad day, when she’s good she’s just plain lovely. Let’s get one thing straight, though. The Fire Rooster is a nailed on-career kid, end of story. She wants success and recognition. Conversely, the Cancerian side is private and has absolutely no need for recognition. Does this generate a degree of inner conflict? Hell, yeah. You won’t know what goes on in this girl’s head on a daily basis, but it’s tantamount to the activity of 20 of us mere mortals. She’ll constantly be battling within, whilst keeping a most composed outer facade - brilliant. Dunno how she does it, but she does. Ideally, she needs to combine both career and motherhood to satisfy the extreme demands of her personality - Cancer will want children, Fire Rooster won’t, but will accept the position as long as she can continue to work and, crucially, receive heavy doses of plaudits and recognition. She’s less sensitve than most Cancerians, but when this one blows, Jeez, it can be impressively volcanic. It’s best not to upset her. Male: Mav-er-ick. If this boy doesn’t stand out in a crowd, no one does. It may be for the right or wrong reasons. He’ll either be devilishly debonair and stylish, or a hotchpotch of ill-conceived mix-and-matches - either way, you’ll notice him. He has such charisma does this boy, more so because that Cancerian compassion is normally evident somewhere along the line. Fire Roosters are fearsomely strong and possess a self-belief that you can’t actually buy - you have it or you don’t. The Cancerian, on the other hand, has very little self-belief, has insecurities aplenty, is sensitive and worries way too much. All traits the Fire Rooster side of his make-up simply can’t identify with. This does cause quite some inner anguish but the Fire Rooster charisma and self-belief ordinarily win the day. Cancerians are original thinkers and shrewd businessmen, the Fire Rooster thrives in a business environment and has the drive, ambition and, let’s be honest, “craving” to be recognised for his successful endeavours. So, it’s in the world of employment where this potential superstar makes his mark - and often does. Be warned, though, this is a cockerel with a bite - he’s feisty, emotional, short-tempered, irrational, impatient and can be quite brutal. Just so you know.
