a sort of annoying discussion around historical movies is the sort of implication that they necessarily would be better if they were more historically accurate. and like would they? personally i think the inaccuracies lend those movies great charm bc they reflect the society in which they were made. and i love that shit

dk if this makes any sense but it's so interesting to consume and interact with products of the north american culture on north american internet while being aware of the, like, the Otherness of the united states. i think sometimes our exposure to the united states via the media we interact with desensitizes us to the issues in the united states while making us feel like those issues are ours as well, like our actions have an impact and like our contribution is needed. but sometimes i'll sit and really think about something that is happening in the states and trace back the history and realize how far it is from me.

Some updates.
12.12.2023 || It's been two tough weeks. First of all, because I was sick for like 3/4 of them. Second, because I graduated!
That's right, I graduated from my Bachelor's in European Languages and Literature (& I was blessedly healthy that day. The 1 day in 2 weeks). Thank you @winryrockbellwannabe for your congrats! message btw <2
Ok but now that I've graduated, what will happen to this blog? Well, I've already enrolled in my Master's so... nothing. I have an exam tomorrow, actually. I'll keep posting my to-do lists and pink fluffy pictures as usual but I'll write a new Studyblr Introduction soon.
Here is to the next 2 years of studying European and Angloamerican Languages and Literature!

Hi there! I need stuff to doodle and have been drawing other artists’ gargoyle ocs! Do you have any gargoyle ocs you’d like drawn? Or even a canon gargoyle works! Hope you’re having a great day 🐸
Oh hi there! That's a neat and generous idea, y'know?
We have quite a number of Gargoyle OCs, yes... here's some of them!
Liuneddu (it means "small lion" in Sicilian)! He's a small guy, 156 cm, and he often acts like a pet towards people. He's very pragmatic and smart, and loves to help!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Petrina is a small (even smaller than Liuneddu) garg born and living in Palermo. In the 9th of May 1943, her city was mass attacked by Angloamerican bombers; she managed to survive with her brother Atlas, even if some of her clan mates didn't make it, but during one of the explosions her wings were hit and damaged by the debris bullets that started flying as a result of the severe bombing. She was five. Since she's very light and tiny in size, she could have been one of the few grotesques able to fly, but the damage sustained by the wings which reduced the available surface of the membrane, only allows her to glide (and she's not that balanced either).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Inverno (it means Winter in Italian). He's immediately distinguishable by his delicate colors and his malewife vibe. He diligently watches over a winter garden, and that is where he got his name from.
Fatherly, gentle, and very confident, Inverno has a good sense of humor and appreciates those who show sharp wit, and despite his own kindness, he likes the "vicious ones": fierce, brutally honest, or with a clever, venomous tongue.
He's our tallest garg, with 1,80 m of height!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. Frisca/Whistle. She doesn't use a name, you can call her whistling!
Tumblr media
(Here she's with another of our gargs, Chatterbox)
Tumblr media
We have other ones, but these are our main ones :)
(And thank you for contacting us! We hope you'll find many beautiful and interesting gargoyles characters that you'll have fun drawings!)

L'UE in guerra!
L’UE sta per inviare tre navi da guerra contro i ribelli Houthi dello #Yemen a supporto delle forze angloamericane. Si tratta degli ultimi ritrovati tecnologici della cantieristica europea. Ecco i dettagli. Visto il numero di rotoli di carta igienica che ne parlano direi proprio che questa notizia potremmo considerarla…

Brazil's government, mining companies join forces against bandits
Tumblr media
The Justice Ministry and Ibram, Brazil’s main mining lobby, signed an agreement on Friday to join forces in the fight against crimes related to mining operations.
Ibram has about 130 members responsible for 85 percent of Brazil’s mineral production. The list includes the Brazilian offices of major foreign companies such as Alcoa, AngloAmerican, AngloGold Ashanti, ArcelorMittal, BHP, Rio Tinto, and Sigma Lithium — as well as Brazilian giants such as Gerdau and Vale.
Romano Costa, the Justice Ministry’s intelligence director, said the agreement is part of a plan to fight organized crime that was announced in October and criticized by both allied and opposition lawmakers for lacking focus and specific goals.
“We are bringing the public and private sectors closer together,” he said. “So they can share information … and we can have more efficiency in the state’s actions in public security.”

The dialects dying thing isn't even uniquely a Greek problem, our neighbours the Italians have similar problems, Western European nations such as Germany have the same problem. I think it's in part (but not fully) a classist problem, like you know *of course* educated people speak "proper" Greek/Italian/German/x, nevermind that most people are either murdering their "proper" language daily or at least not using it to its full linguistic potential.
Of course there are other reasons like easier communication, but you certainly CAN teach people how to code-switch (just ask diaspora Greeks...) and when to use which version of the language. Another reason is that it would be "too much hassle" to have teachers for dialects, and children aren't going to appreciate an extra subject in school until much later in life. And so many more reasons, really, one can find countless excuses but no one thinks of what's being lost. Although I guess if one looks at Ireland where they have the same problem not with dialects, but with their own NATIVE LANGUAGE, I guess one should be counting Greece as lucky. (I'm aware this is the effect of colonialism for Ireland but we've been in similar situations too, which is why I say we're lucky). It's sad to see though.
END OF MAIL
Totally agree. It's not very easy to preserve endangered dialects effectively.
It was a classist and colonialism problem in the previous century, nowadays I believe the ultimate culprit is globalisation. We are all getting assimilated into a global angloamerican culture of sorts. Young Greek people who suddenly get strokes and can't remember a word or how to phrase something in Greek because they use it more in "cool" English is not a rare occurence at all (has happened to me too btw, would like to slap us all out of it). That's why the interest for the dialects has hit rock bottom but also main languages are spoken so poorly. And of course I agree some other countries have it even worse but I was speaking about what I can actively raise awareness towards, as a Greek.

my angloamerican lit prof asked us to introduce ourselves today by saying our names and something interesting about them that might help her to remember them all, and so I just went "my name's x but I don't really go by it, and - " and as I was about to say why I was given this name, she went "what do you go by then?" and i, idk, i'm not used to profs caring, i never brought it up with profs irl anyway because they usually just use last names anyway, so i said the name i go by and she called me that twice already. i think i might cry. i've been thinking about making the 'nickname' i go by my legal name for a while now, and idk, i think i actually might, someday. the contrast between this one prof, and another one who always loves to tell us how she's all for inclusivity and then targets those of us who are clearly not 'typical' (and, btw, i'm average as fuck - my looks and my behaviour in class make me look purposefully unassuming) is fucking unbelievable.

Life update, a.a. 2023-24
If you've been following this blog for the last few months, you probably know that I was planning to take a gap year after graduating, in order to do an internship in Berlin.
Well, my plans have changed completely.
First of all, I won't be taking a gap year. There will be no internship abroad. I will be immediately enrolling in my master's degree on European and Angloamerican Literature and Languages. In fact, lectures start on Monday.
It was a suffered decision. But I came to the conclusion that a gap year would simply delay what I truly want: freedom from academia. A permanent job abroad. Independency. Having a master's degree is almost a requirement for all this. Might as well get it done as soon as possible.
The plan for this first semester is to graduate from my bachelor's in December (currently writing the dissertation), get my driver's license AND take as many exams as I can during the winter exam season. It's going to be busy.
After that, it's all a big interrogative point. I plan on applying to various scholarships to study abroad. If everything goes well, I will attend a summer class in Germany, but we'll see how that works out.
I'll write another post with the list of the courses I'll be taking this semester as soon as my schedule is confirmed. Thank you for reading so far, and for always supporting me :)
