Tell me now of the very soul that look alike, look alike
Do you know the stranglehold covering their eyes
If I called on every soul in the land, on the moon
Tell me if I’ll ever know
A blessing in disguise

Round 1; A bouquet of yellow orchids, rue, yew, bird’s-foot trefoil, yellow gladiolus, yellow peony, sunflower and yellow amaryllis Vs A bouquet of dandelion, asphodel, poppy, chamomile, red columbine, hydrangea, rhododendron, dark crimson rose and queen of the night
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you know who they are, or are pretty sure of it, please don't tell until this poll has ended!
First, let's talk about the bouquet of yellow orchids, rue, yew, bird’s-foot trefoil, yellow gladiolus, yellow peony, sunflower and yellow amaryllis
Meaning and why these flowers were chosen: Yellow orchids, because he compares himself to an orchid kept in a greenhouse, because yellow is a color of heavy symbolism in his source material—for nothing good—and on the other hand because yellow orchids can represent friendship and new beginnings and he’s a sweet guy who gets a possible new beginning. Rue, because it means regret and he has plenty of that, not so much because of wrongs he committed but wrongs he was complicit in and inherited as a legacy from his family. Yew, because it represents life, death, and reincarnation and he was almost an avenue for someone’s reincarnation. It also represents evil and protection from evil, and someone close to him isn’t always sure which he’s going to be. Bird’s-foot trefoil, because it means revenge and he helps someone deliver comeuppance to those who had wronged them, and though I’m not sure he was in the state of mind to appreciate it as revenge for himself, he deserves to. Yellow gladiolus, because gladiolus represents strength and that’s the last thing anyone would expect this fragile young man to have but in a way he does. Yellow peony, because peonies can represent bashfulness and he is shy and awkward and so repressed. Sunflower, because it can represent intelligence and the pursuit of enlightenment; he is a devotedly scholarly type (in fact, he likes botany a lot so he’d probably vibe with this tournament idea) and knows better than to support the ideologies of his family; he is enlightened beyond their prejudice. Yellow amaryllis, because amaryllis symbolizes love—he is deeply, yet delicately, in love with someone who has brought hope into his life—and because it also means unrecognized beauty and I think that would be funny but neat for him, given that he’s unattractive but possesses a kind, potentially beautiful personality. Description: ‘God, what a pathetic loser’ you think (assuming you’re, ahem, the POV character, but I get it) and it’s a fundamentally compassionate person who was only complicit insofar as he was trapped in an abusive system and had succumbed to despair. Incredibly polite to his shitty family and tells the first person who asks that he thinks the family home should be burned to the ground. He may be a bit ugly and awkward, but in good circumstances he radiates the silly joy of a nerd. Also, he’s one-half of one of my favorite fictional interracial couples; they are such a good and sweet and thematically resonant duo

Now, let's talk about the bouquet of dandelion, asphodel, poppy, chamomile, red columbine, hydrangea, rhododendron, dark crimson rose and queen of the night
Meaning and why this flower was chosen: Dandelion- overcoming hardship [Hes been going THROUGH it, like its been rough for this guy] Asphodel- my regrets follow you to the grave [he is riddled with guilt, for things he did, for things he didnt do, just- so much guilt] Poppy- eternal sleep, imagination [dreams are a very important aspect of the media] Chamomile- patience in adversity [he has been scraping by not dying by the skin of his teeth, he is constantly experiencing the Horrors] Red Columbine- anxiety [he is soso goddamn traumatized] Hydrangea- Frigidity and heartlessness [hes kind of a bit of an evil bitch] Rhododendron- Danger [He has been in non-stop life threatening danger since the series began] Dark Crimson Rose- Mourning [he is defined by his grief and regret] Queen of the Night- enjoy small moments because they do not last [Any minor joy he finds is immediately crushed, this man CANNOT have nice things] Description: Ohhhhh he is riddled with guilt. He is a private investigator. Everyone he loves is dead, its all his fault, it also kind of isnt. He is in a toxic yaoi situation-ship with a ghost in his brain. He is a pathetic wet cat and every eldritch god he meets wants to fuck him so bad it makes them look stupid. Hes serial killer on accident but also on purpose. Hes british and half of the media hes from is him whimpering or gasping- but it isnt horny- hes just so miserable. He loves art, he beat a widow to death with a rock one time. Hes iconic, hes wife material, he had a severed head at one point (not his).

Lotus corniculatus  (bird's-foot trefoil)
Good weed - Bad weed
Bird's-foot trefoil is native to temperate Eurasia and North Africa. Here it is growing on the west coast of Canada - it’s a long way from home. Bird’s-foot trefoil brings a number of talents to the struggle for existence. It’s a member of the pea family so it can ‘fix’ it’s own nitrogen from the air. It can also reproduce sexually with seeds and asexually by producing daughter plants from nodes on it’s roots.
My copy of Invasive Flora of the West Coast mentions this plant and says it reduces diversity by out competing native plants, but there’s no doubt that the local farmers like it. It is often used as forage and is widely used as food for livestock due to its non-bloating properties. It survives fairly close grazing, trampling, and mowing. Bird’s-foot trefoil arrived in in North America in imported forage in the early colonial period.
In the end, the good weed / bad weed debate is pointless. Bird’s-foot trefoil is here and it’s not going to go away. This plant may have permanently changed the ecology of North America but as any dairy farmer will tell you, there’s no point crying over spilt milk.

10/06/2023-Arrival in Cemaes, Anglesy for a week away and journey
Pictures taken in this set: 1 and 2. Creamy sky scene and view at the cottage. 3. Fuchsia at the cottage. 4. Blackbird seen from the cottage tonight, a species I was determined to photograph this trip as it was one I had in mind as a good to try and photograph in England, Scotland and Wales this year after photographing this species on the Scotland trip in April and having taken a few in home areas this year already. A unique thing to challenge myself to in what will go down as a key feature of my year and something I am excited by visiting both Scotland and Wales the first time I’ve been to both in a year. It was great to get the Blackbird quick. 5. Jackdaw on a chimney another I enjoyed from the cottage. 6, 9 and 10. Views on a walk at the sea tonight, a lovely place where we did visit briefly when last in Anglesey in 2021. 7. Kidney vetch and thrift, two stunning coastal flowers I loved seeing tonight. 8. Some exquisite English stonecrop on the rocks, a pretty flower I saw in Anglesey last time so this was nice.
I was very pleased that we spotted some Manx Shearwaters including a large group far out to sea here, a stone’s throw from Cemlyn where we saw them in 2021 it was one we hoped to see this week so was good to get early and add this one of my favourite birds to my year. It was another favourite of mine that was the other key bird of the walk as I was delighted to spot a gorgeous Black Guillemot out to sea, one I’ve had a top year for featuring on both the Scotland and Wales trips now and one I’ve come to find evocative of Anglesey after how many we saw last time so this was great. House Martins flying and going under a roof and heard chirping well one alongside Swallow I saw well on the journey/earlier in the day, pipping Oystercatchers seen well key coastal birds, Collared Dove on rocks a quirky sight, young Starling on a rock, Mallards in the bay a unique place to see them, Sandwich Tern and possible Common Tern, Lesser Black-backed Gull and Black-headed and Herring Gulls fighting over chip paper were other highlights tonight. Bird’s-foot trefoil, broad-leaved and white clover seen well and red valerian were other nice flowers to see. Red Kite, Raven, butterflies including Brimstone and Speckled Wood I believe on a hot and bright journey and my first honeysuckle and common toadflax of the year were other highlights of things seen on the journey with Woodpigeon and House Sparrow good to see at home before leaving.

Marigold
"Woah.." Lily gasps softly, her footsteps against the metal floor as quiet as they could.
A large open room, circle in design, with blue-tinted steel lining the walls. The hums of soft white lights illuminated, and in the center was a tank, containing..
"Diana!" Lily gasps, rushing forward and placing her hands on the glass. The rest follow her, all gaping at the giant siren.
"Lily?" The siren of storms places a giant hand on the glass. "It's really you.."
"Yeah." She smiles. "I.. woke up a while ago." She shakes her head. "Uh, let's just focus on getting you back."
YEMRU flutters around. "It appears there's a control panel. If we examine it, perhaps we can release you, Diana."
"Beep bap!"
Girlfriend purses her lips. "Boyfriend is right. This has been way too easy."
Lily hesitates. "It has. But.. what else can we do? We need to take what we can get."
Miku points a finger to her and them YEMRU. "We'll focus on getting that control panel, you guys-"
"Will not be doing anything."
While the rest of the group turns around in confusion, which quickly turns to fear, Lily feels anger bubble in her at that familiar voice.
She whips around, clenching her teeth. "You."
There stands Marcy. It's hard to forget someone who was constantly trying to get her Uncle Bob to return home. Though what's interesting was that Marcy's cloak 2as now red, and she lacked her normal bandana. Thorn embroidery was apparent on it, and green lined the cloak's edges.
The blade Marcy was pointing at them lowered for a moment. "Wait. You're that girl, Lily."
"Damn right." She hisses. "I should have known you'd be working with Lady Rose." She glances around. There was nothing for her to fight with. Girlfriend could probably take on Marcy, but that's if Marcy was willing to play fair.
"I don't have a choice. This is for Bob's sake."
"You always said that, didn't you?!" She snaps. "I can't imagine how he feels right now, seeing you work with Lady Rose!"
As the two argue, Miku and YEMRU quickly sneak off to the control panel. Boyfriend and Girlfriend made a point to get in front of Lily, eyes narrowed at her. Though Boyfriend was clearly on more edge, watching Marcy warily.
As the argument continues, Miku glances up towards one of the screens, and her faces goes white.
"We've gotta go." She glances at YEMRU before pointing at the screen.
YEMRU's eyes follow her finger, and his shape turns to a triangle. His voice hushes. "We cannot let Lily see that."
Miku nods, and her eyes turn to another screen. She scans over jt, quickly, before she lurches forward and slams her hand down on a nearby button, then pulled a lever.
Alarms blare, and the walls to the tank fall. Water spills out, and the floor beneath them begins to part. A giant pipe is underneath, gray in color.
"No!" Marcy shouts, dashing towards Lily. "I will not let you get away, not when bringing you to her will bring him back!"
Boyfriend, acting quickly, spun out his microphone and blocked her blade. He grits his teeth. "Bap bop!"
"What does that even mean?" Marcy huffs, jumping back.
Being free, Diana shifts to a larger form and bares sharp teeth at Marcy. In a sweeping motion, she grabs the group and merely says, "hold your breath."
As the Garo lunges to try and grab Lily, her eyes flick upwards, to where more of Lady Rose's goons begin to run in.
Her heart sinks at seeing a red cloak like Marcy's before her vision is obscured by the walls of the pipe.
○●○
"Tsk tsk."
A red cloaked figure marches back Marcy, and she trembles with barely contained rage. A sword presses down on the button, and the alarms stop. The figure doesn't pull up lever, instead leaving the floor parted to expose the pipe.
"One job, and you failed."
She narrows her eyes as she tries to not lash out. Across from her stood Bob, but she knew it wasn't him in control of his body. Ghostly white vines cover his body like rope, and over his right eye was bird's-foot trefoil, a flower Lady Rose was all too happy to explain one of the meanings of. His eye was a vibrant red, like the Lady's cloak.
"The very least you can do is tell me who it was that broke in." Her brother's head shakes.
"That girl, Lily." Marcy speaks quickly. "She had others with her."
Bob's body jolts, and she swears for a moment that he glares at her, as if angered that she'd say that. Then, his body returns to its normal puppet state.
"Well, well, well! Isn't that a good bit of news." Lady Rose's voice dwarfs Bob's. "Very good, very good."
The body of her brother leaps over the edge, but not before pulling down the lever, turning the floor to normal. "You and Bob will begin looking for her, effective tomorrow."
"Why not just go down the pipe?" Marcy argues.
"You'd get lost or die." The Lady just sounds indifferent, like she couldn't care less. "I believe our discussion is done."
With that, Marcy watches as her brother's body ascends the stairs.
○●•
Lily sits on the rocks, vaguely listening as Diana and Joe Boopkins discuss something. (It was a relief that the sea still held him. That was one more useful ally.
Her mind was still racing. Was that her uncle? Had he really joined Lady Rose? No, he couldn't have. His anger over the whole mess let her know he wasn't happy.
"Lily." Diana's gentle voice snaps her out of it.
She looks up from her spot. The moon shines down on the sand of the beach.
Diana swims forward, and she presents a smaller version of her trident. "I trust you with my trident until this is all over." Lily gapes as she gingerly takes it. "It will listen to you until you return it to me. You are its user now."
"Thank you." She whispers.
"You're welcome."
○●○
Lady Rose hums as she retreats from Bob's mind. Leaning back in her chair, a cruel grin spreads on her face. She leans forward and presses a communicator on her desk.
A minute passes, and it answers.
"Yes, Rose?"
"Mr L!" She chuckles. "I hope you're on speaker because I have some news regarding a certain little songbird that I'm sure your captives would love to hear."
It's quiet before the man speaks again, and she can practically hear his grin. "Oh, do go on."
Lady Rose smiles. What a good day, this was.

"There is a debt that you humans can never repay me."
"As my people were fallen upon with shackles, and their bodies wracked with electricity and pain, so must every human feel the same, countless times over. No human must survive, those that do must be taught what life debts are - and why they will pay the price for my people."
And for the final one in this series, we've got Hanharr! The guy who probably gets passed over for Mira in 90 % of playthroughs. As cool as Kreia's teachings using him are, there's really not much more to him than this anger and thirst for revenge, is there? It kind of makes me wonder if they were planning more that got scrapped, like so much else. I gave him wolfsbane for misanthropy and death and bird's-foot trefoil for revenge. They were a bit too small to really get right, though.

Lotus corniculatus : ‘the flower with small horns’
A member of the pea family that grows in meadows and along roadsides, bird’s foot trefoil blends in with — and chokes out — native yellow sweetclover. All parts of this plant contain cyanide. Still, the root and flowers are used medicinally to stimulate breathing and/or calm the heart rate. When crushed, the flowers make a suitable dye.

Fun fact: Did you know that Bird's-foot trefoil symbolised revenge in ye olde victorian times?
I don't usually post any of my stuff (not anymore, at least), but I just finished this one and thought "why not?".
