Each bird card features unique artwork with gold foil highlights, as well as information about the bird's conservation status, habitat, diet, and more! All of the birds in this set were part of #avianaugust2021, a daily bird drawing prompt by @thecookiedove! Available here!
Finished! First full oil painting. Mostly for exploration sake, to get a feel for the paint and because well, pigeons.
I'll get brave and varnish her at somepoint.
I wanted to paint something just for myself so here's my ultimate comfort zone painting process! It has a bird! It's a corvid! I used teals, greens and purples! There's space! And a circle background! And I used watercolours!
Ecoline watercolours are so vibrant but I can only recommend them to absolute masochists because they are very tricky to work with. I really like how this turned out in the end though!
Today our ace artist has decided to gift fellow Natural History enjoyers who happen to be ace (or know someone who is) with sketches of animals and ace-umbrella flags you've requested some time ago.
Join us throughout the day as we post brand new sketches every couple of hours!
my first completed artwork in 2024! i'm slowly making progress on the 2023 collectible bird cards
this year i really want to focus on backgrounds so this piece took longer than usual compared to my previous card designs! i also upgraded my canvas size/resolution so now procreate limits me to only 33 layers, which was difficult to work with (give me my 50+ layers!!). hopefully i can offer larger size prints if people are interested? i will post the card version of this artwork later!
Yup, oils are harder to photograph for sure... any tips or tricks? 😂
Of course one of the first things I try to paint is a pigeon. Pigeons are lovely. And incredibly pretty birds, when you look beyond their reputation.
First layer done, currently drying.
