Working Papas (Mall AU Headcanons)

AU where the emeritus brothers are not papas. Instead, they work in a mall in separate stores. Secondo was originally gonna be a mall cop but I thought it’d be funnier if he worked at a Claire’s.

Primo works at a Bath & Bodywork’s.

He’s a pro at being able to tell what kinds of products you’d like or need just by vibes only.

You think it would be funny so you when you confess to Copia, you tell him you have the doki-dokis and he just looks at you all confused and makes Copia Noises as he tries to decipher your meaning. In the end you sigh out: “it means I like you, you idiot.”

He kisses you and Sakura Kiss from Ouran High School Host Club starts playing and you make eye contact with one of his co-workers who ‘eeps’ and ducks behind the counter. “KISS KISS FALL IN LOVE” begins to blast.

Sure I'll fucking post the first scene don't fucking test me. It bangs and one should never be ashamed of the things that bang. You're never getting that PJO fic at this rate.

First scene of a fic that bangs under the cut. There's an actual premise for the fic but I think it's funner if that's not obvious.

“Hey, kid. Wanna join a gang?”

Sakura halted, kunai half-buried in the hard packed dirt. She looked upwards, blinking owlishly.

Obito didn’t have to fight the urge to sweat, because he was partly wood and wasn’t capable of it. The desire persisted. Sakura blinked at him.

He was being ridiculous. The girl couldn’t level mountains with a punch or stop hearts with a touch. She wasn’t head of a hospital and inventor of a dozen medical techniques. She wasn’t even married. Not even to idiots. This was a whole-ass civilian child. She could barely stick a leaf to her abnormally large forehead.

“What kind of gang?” Sakura paused a beat. “I’m not supposed to talk to strangers.”

“I’m not a stranger, I’m a ninja. That’s trustworthy.” Ninjas were pretty famous for being trustworthy, straightforward people. Granted, there was an outlier that should not be counted. “And it’s a fun gang. With…uh, candy.”

Sakura narrowed her eyes. “Where’s your headband?”

“Laundry day.”

Sakura applied every ounce of her genius intellect towards considering this. Obito carefully crouched down across from her, looking down at the small and crumbling hole she’d created. Wasn’t she a bit too old to dig in the dirt for fun?

Finally, she said, “Sorry, Suspicious Ninja-san. I have school, homework, and chores. And a class project due next week. I have no time in my schedule for a gang.”

“Not even if it’s a really good one?” Obito wheedled.

Sakura shook her head solemnly.

Obito sighed dramatically, poking a gloved finger into the small hole. He allowed Sakura to smack his finger away with the kunai, ignoring her glare. It was super cute and potentially deadly. “So you’re too busy learning away, huh? Guess you’re just another kid with no intellectual curiosity. If you’re perfectly happy with the normal classes, I guess you don’t need advanced ones…”

Obviously, that got her attention. Obito knew full well that classes weren’t challenging her. Acing all of them across the board was a point of pride, but she knew that she wasn’t reaching her potential. She wanted to ace more difficult exams, which was more pride, and continue onwards towards higher difficulty in her quest for self-esteem. She searched unceasingly for the most difficult questions so she could experience the vain victory of knowing she was better than everybody else. Gifted kids. They were all the same.

“Is your gang a class?” Sakura demanded. “Is it special tutoring? Like the clan kids get?”

Ah. And maybe she wanted to do the impossible just to be as good as everybody else. That had always been the life of Sakura Haruno.

“It’s a group of people bound together by a shared dream,” Obito said mysteriously. Sakura’s eyes widened. “Yeah, we teach each other things. Special secret techniques that only we know. Here, I’ll show you one.” He looked down at the hole, brushing away stray rocks. “You weren’t using this hole for anything, right?”

“I was digging for worms,” Sakura said, frank and even. Somehow, her little dress didn’t have a speck of mud on it.

“Cool. Uh, why?”

“They have really simple chakra networks.”

“Sorry I asked.” Obito dug his finger a little deeper into the hole, forming a small cavity, before raising his hand and cupping it over the hole. “Watch carefully. A true ninja looks underneath the underneath.”

Anybody looking from a distance - anybody from ANBU to nosy mothers - would have assumed he dug into the hole and pulled it out. But Sakura, ear to the ground and big green eyes fixed on the magic underneath Obito’s hand, saw it clearly.

A wisp of green pushed through the bottom of the hole. It slowly rose upwards, leaves growing and unfurling, as it reached the top of the hole and continued to grow. Petals budded at the top of the plant and unfurled, spreading pink. Spring passed in an instant, and in a slight of hand Obito pulled the plant up by the stem and pretended it had been there all along.

It was a camilla, petals dyed as pink as Sakura’s hair. Obito ceremoniously presented it to her. She was almost unable to take it: she was stupified, surprised stiff. She knew exactly what she had just seen.

She mouthed three syllables to herself: Mokuton. Obito smiled slyly.

Sakura finally took the flower, inspecting it closely. Somewhat critically, she said, “Camillas don’t come in pink.”

“I thought I’d cater to my audience.” Obito leaned in, and Sakura ducked her head to match him. “I can teach you how to do it.”

Sakura’s eyes narrowed, twirling the flower between her finger and thumb. “It’s a kekkai genkai. You can’t teach kekkai genkais. And nobody would, anyway.”

“I would. I’m even offering.”

“Who are you?”

“Guy who wants to put together a gang. With fun and candy.”

Sakura’s eyes narrowed further into slits. “You said the gang already existed.”

“Let’s just say that we’re getting the gang back together for the very first time.”

“Why would we say that?”

She had not warned him that it would be this difficult. Obito remembered little girls as being way more pliable than this. But most little girls would have run away from strangers offering free rides, so maybe Sakura was more gullible than most. Or more susceptible to temptation. But every great ninja was.

“Flowers have simple chakra systems too.” Obito put his hand over the pit again. “Feel for my chakra this time. Earth and water. Watch what I do.”

He made a small sapling this time, which was far simpler and straightforward than creating a flower that didn’t exist. Sakura watched him carefully, eyes closed shut, and when he finished she reached in and ripped out the sapling herself. She studied the sapling carefully before sticking it in her mouth, running her tongue over the leaves and stem. Then she spat it out, brushing dirt over the plant as if burying a body and placing her hand over the hole.

Sakura screwed her eyes shut and lay there for a long time. Obito’s mind was almost spiraling into megalomania again before she began drawing her hand up. She made several small motions with her fingers, almost pinching, and Obito watched in marked interest as a small sapling rose from the soil. It only grew an inch out of the soil, and it was nothing more than a sprout, but so was Sakura.

When she opened her eyes and saw what she had made - when she realized that the no-name and do-nothing girl could create a mokuton as mighty as the god’s - Obito knew that he had hooked her.

Obito smiled at her, stiff and unyielding. “I have a dream. I’m dreaming of a world filled with meadows of beautiful flowers and forests of the tallest trees. You could help me create this dream, Sakura. I can teach you some of it, but you’ll have to make it the rest of the way on your own.”

The sapling sat in Sakura’s palm, and Obito knew that she found it far more beautiful than any flower. When she spoke, she stared at the sapling. “How?”

“Well…” Obito scratched at the back of his neck, laughing slightly. “How do you feel about crime?”

“Crime?!”

In the end, he had to kidnap her a bit. Technically he could have kidnapped her from the beginning, but a little work now saved a lot of work later. She complained a lot at first about her ‘family’ and ‘school’ and ‘desertion’, but she got over all of that predictably quickly. Her village did too: a disappearing child was not noteworthy in Konoha. Worst case scenario they’d accidentally stir up some ‘but I thought you kidnapped her for your child army’ situations.

Obito would create a heaven on earth, come hell or high water. Anybody who got in his way would die, from the lowliest Suna ninja to the Hokage himself. That was what it meant to be an optimist. And this little girl would be key to it all.

hi! first of all thank you for your posts, always super interesting and well-developed, a delight to read :) it's too bad you have to deal with repetitive anonymous asks just being blatantly homophobic (''if they label it as brothers all the time'' lol Sasuke never labelled it as such even once and Naruto ultimately said ''we might not be brothers but we're great friends''... way to ignore the text) anyway, I was curious which panel shows Naruto being aroused? If you remember which one it is, thank you so much! (and I think you deserve a break from anon asks lol!) take care :)

Okay so this one's funny. I was talking about this scene:

There are different translations to this scene. It's an interesting scene, Naruto is excited because Sasuke wants to fight him, and he remembers when in the Chunin exams Sasuke acknowledged him while smiling.

However there's something funny I learned when I was looking around on Japanese naruto forums. I was reading discussions which talked about Naruto's gayness. One such discussion started with someone asking "Why do people think Naruto is gay?" and someone replied with the panel of Naruto saying Sasuke looks much better than Sai, as well as this above panel. So I got curious. (There was also talk about some of the other scenes in the manga obviously)

And I went?! But that's not all, I read some of the Japanese comments and some of the men didn't sound too amused. They said it sounds sexual, like being aroused. Someone said "this is how you are supposed to feel when you feel excitement over a girl, not a rival..."

This person is pretty much saying you can't explain away the lower parts kyun part lmao

Some of the other comments were homophobic too, especially the overuse of the word "normal" when referring to a straight person. But the general reaction is telling lol

きゅん "Kyun" is an onomatopoeia momentary tightening of one's chest caused by powerful feelings. Usually when it's used it happens in chest for example when someone falls in love or sees something cute, (like you go eeeee) their heart squeezes. But here this kyun is happening in lower abdomen/lower parts… well.

We talked about this in private with sneezemonster15, saying how Naruto hit puberty. 🤭 🤫

Shino who frequently visits an alpha nurse at the hospital during their rounds to share fun science facts and make cheesy joke to to aleveate the strain of their job

Haku who finds a fellow forager/hunter on the outskirts of the leaf village who lives their life and solitude and rarely goes to town, and he’s immedietly enamored by their quiet and sturdy nature and their kind eyes

Sasuke:

Honestly, I was about to say 'I don't think Sasuke would go for a civilian', but then I read it properly and I think I was wrong, because I love him with a super strong and badass (but still civilian) bartender. Sasuke loves someone strong, fearless and confident, but you're so right that that doesn't mean they have to be a shinobi.

Shikamaru:

Shikamaru really would come to appreciate the paperwork ninja as he got older, because they keep things organised and make his job so much easier. Like, he was so happy to see this alpha completing all this stressful paperwork, and they smiled so brightly at him, and it was over. His Obsession triggered right there lol. He would totally slip little coded notes in the paperwork for his obsession too. I can totally see Neji falling for an expensive goods trader, like luxury goods, because he's a sucker for good quality items lol. He has expensive taste in every sense of the word, and while he's suspicious at first about all the discounts, he gets a happy blush whenever the vendor says something flirty and offers a price cut. I don't think he'd be the type to find smoking sexy though. He's too much of a 'you know that's bad for you' kind of person.

Shino:

Yessssss!!! Shino with a medic s/o, I love that so much! They would take turns sharing biology facts about either people or bugs, and that would be flirting for them. Their dates would sound so weird if anyone were to eavesdrop. shgsjgfsa this is so cute, Shino needs a medic s/o pronto.

Haku:

Haku really would go for a sturdy, stoic, but deeply kind s/o. I don't know if you know anything about the Arcana game, but I feel like he could end up with someone like Muriel so easily. Haku really respects skill, but he's not the sort of person to look down on civilian skills. I imagine the civilian alpha being amazing at woodworking or something and making Haku little charms, that would be so sweet!!

You haven't gotten a lot of Non Quirk questions in a while, so I wanted to send one that I think would be fun. What do you think would be the favorite anime/series of each 1-A Character? I know Tokoyami would be a Jujutsu Kaisen fan, but the rest I'm not sure.

Can I just say how much I appreciate questions like these? It's always really fun to get questions unrelated to Quirks outside of Quirks, especially more light hearted, character focused questions like these. I appreciate you sending this in and encourage more non-Quirk related questions. That aside, I will expand this to include manga as well. There are some choices on here that I think are perfect, but I know that certain animes aren't the best adaptation.

Sato: Food Wars. Maybe Toriko if you want something more on brand with him. I would say more about it, but that would imply there is anything deeper to read into with Sato.

Koda: Pokémon. There really isn't anything complicated about this choice. Just a fun, lighthearted series with wonderous creatures under the main character's control.

Mineta: Without question, it's Kill La Kill. He's actually one of the few people who are able to read into it on a deeper level and what it's trying to say but nobody believes him.

Denki: I don't know, Seven Deadly Sins? Kaminari just seems like he would be the most basic, go with whatever's is the most popular kind of fan, never really commiting to anything for too long.

Tsuyu: I think she would be into cute and happy series. Something light and fun that puts a smile on your face and could enjoy with other people around. Think something like Spy x Family.

Sero: Maybe Steins' Gate? He's on the same level as Denki, but it's usually more along with critics are going with then general audiences and at least takes some time to think about it.

Ojiro: Pretty much any heavily technical fighting anime, like Hajime no Ippo, but has a special place in his heart for Dragon Ball Z. Who knew that a martial artist with a tail would hit a chord with Ojiro?

Hagakure: I think her being into Sailor Moon would make sense. Something fun and flashy. I could easily see her using her reflective powers to do the whole Moon Prisim Power thing.

Aoyama: I could see him being kind of anime snob, being more interested in really old animes like Revolutionary Girl Utena or Rose of Versailles. Just something really pretty looking for his Bishonen soul.

Mina: Again, another character like Denki, but instead of focusing on shonen, she's more into whatever is popular with rom coms or slice of life, like Don't Bully Me Nagatoro or Dress Up My Darling.

Jiro: I honestly see her being more pulled towards the soundtrack of an anime rather then it's content. Though I do think she'd be interested in Cowboy Bebop with it's general "cool" feeling to it.

Tokoyami: He certainly seems like the guy that would be into the whatever edgy anime flavor of the month. First Death Note, then Tokyo Ghoul, and most recently Jujutsu Kiasen.

Shoji: He'd be into the Berserk manga. Just one of that people that reads super mess up stuff and is one of the chilliest people around. The only time he gets angry is when you mention any of the adaptations.

Kirishima: His favorite would be Gurren Lagann and there is nothing you can do to change my mind. It's just too perfect. That being said, if you want to pick something more ongoing, I'd say Jojo's Bizarre Adventure for obvious reasons.

Uraraka: I think she'd be into One Piece. I'm not sure why exactly I picked that out, I just think that she would like it. Maybe it's the mix of good, light heart adventures, lots of action and heart renching movement that makes me think she'd like it.

Tenya: Pretty much anything related to Gundam. I could see him being into the mechanics of the robots and the amount of stragy involved in the fights. Out of all of them though, his favorite would be the objectively best Gundam series: G Gundam.

Bakugou: Bakugou is both sides of the deep Naruto fan coin. He's simultaneously the guy that's actually reading into it and understanding what's it's saying, but also the obnoxious dude bro that talks about it like it's the greatest manga ever without question.

Shoto: It was honestly really hard to think of anything for him. He just doesn't seem like the kind of that would be into it. I was tempted on Fire Force for a joke, but I like the choice of Fruits Basket better. I feel like the complications of family and bonds would speak to him.

Momo: I was tempted to go with Doctor Stone, but I had to go with Fullmetal Alchemist. She's definitely one of those people who slaves over all the little details and themes in whatever she is watch, her face glowing as she talks about Elric's character and journey.

Izuku: I really wanted to pick One Punch Man for obvious reasons, but I think he'd be more pulled towards Hunter x Hunter. I think he'd especially be interested in the power system that's one of the few in all of manga that doesn't have to do with whatever you're born with.

hmm not super into it. i've seen it around, but i'm not sure what the attraction is.... like, what the chemistry between them would be or what the appeal of the ship would be. i think a lot of people like tenten because she isn't portrayed as "girly" as sakura or ino and her main goal being strong. but i think the only time we really see her interact with sasuke, she has internal dialogue that he's cute and cool just like everyone else LMAO

maybe that's the premise, though. sasuke-stays-in-the-village au where the older he gets, the more girls keep asking him out, and also he's a SHIT communicator so he just grunts and doesn't say no and can't figure out why none of them back down. sakura tries to explain to him he should actually tell people he doesn't want to date but sasuke is like "i AM telling them that?" and sakura is like. oh my god. you are so stupid i can't believe i used to like you. and then because she's still got her rivalry with ino, she's like "well, if you dated ME, i'd keep other girls away" and sasuke is like. "hmm good idea. i'll find a girl to fake date" and he gets up and leaves

anyway sasuke knows tenten as the girl who sometimes shares his preferred kunai training ground, who literally only ever says like 2-3 sentences to him to make sure they're sharing adequately. and he's like. her. queen of not talking to me <3

tenten meanwhile thinks sasuke is SUPER cute and talented and cool, and if she ever saw him outside of training hours, she would definitely flirt and maybe even ask him out?? so when he asks HER out she says yes immediately!!! but then their first date is kind of weird, and then afterwards sakura AND naruto track her down to be like "hi, sorry, you may have just become a victim of sasuke being stupid." it's not that sasuke intentionally led her on. it's that he genuinely thought he adequately communicated he wanted a fake girlfriend

tenten is kind of upset but she likes him :( so she decides to play along, but only after she chews him out and throws some sharp objects at him. the rest of the story would be fake dating shenanigans where tenten is actively trying to ignore her crush while sasuke slowly realizes he LIKE likes her and then goes out of his way to ~seduce her~ while tenten firmly tries to ignore it

jeonghan — howl from howl's moving castle i refuse to elaborate

joshua — this was actually so hard but i think sugawara from haikyuu like he's nurturing ... but also super chaotic and good at hiding it

jun — lev from haikyuu ... they're both tall, cute, funny, and kinda weird jdksdnjks

vernon — mob from mob psycho 100! i feel like they both have this very fun and kind energy to them but they're both on the quite side too! cares a lot about the people around them and is maybe a little awkward at times but literally the sweetest and understanding souls ever

chan — nishinoya from haikyuu! both are so talented and so good at what they do but also so bright and fun and literally brings up the mood of everyone around them (also kiki from kiki's delivery service. i feel like they're both so talented and were thrust into a big big world from a young age and worked really hard to navigate through it, made friends along the way and !! does this make sense ?!)

To answer your question "Do I have a particular artist or song that reminds me of NaruHina"--other than Alina Baraz? YES!! And he pairs so well with Alina Baraz too! It's-- Christian Kuria. I feel like so many of his songs fit the feel I want for a NaruHina combo. I listen to a lot of his songs for inspo. And if you look into almost any of my NaruHina playlists for my particular fics, you'll for sure find one of his songs. lol.
