Someone whos into men and have Mars Square/Opposite Juno(3) might attract the complete opposite of what they are attracted to. For example someone with Scorpio Mars Square Leo Juno wants a confident, open and funny partner, but they only attract the mysterious , sneaky, obsessive kind of men. Or vice versa.
People with Lilith 3rd house 🤝 having issues with their car.
Venus Square Juno(3) 🤝 Molding their partner into what they want them to be
Ceres(1) conjunct Mars 🤝 Working out as a form of selfcare
Please check the North Node aspects in the composite chart. It can show what kind of relationship it will be.
The annoying part of 10th house placements is attracting attention from people you dont even know exist.
If you have Eros(433) Conjunct Moon synastry just know you will both remember it forever and you know what I mean by it.
Use your transits to get stuff done. I swear I never clean & exercise like I clean and exercise when Sun or Venus are transiting my 6th house.
Women with Lilith Square Moon struggle with the Madonna/Whore complex. They also feel a deeprooted need to be a part of society, have a family and be the kind of woman whos accepted. But at the same time they feel a strong need to rebel against those same things.
Moon conjunct/square/opposite Pluto needs to practice letting go. They be the ones to check a certain persons instagram everyday almost like a routine. Especially when it comes to people they dislike. An obsession with powerstruggles. Especially when the enemy is a woman.
Ive noticed that people with pluto retrogade are less obsessive.
Pisces Suns always have something innocent & youthful about their looks.
People Venus Square Ascendant in their own chart usually get into conflict with people who also have Venus Square Ascendant.
People with Jupiter conjunct personal planets can come across as arrogant even tho they are usually super friendly once you talk to them.
People with Venus Square Saturn care a lot about stability when chosing a partner. They can be very turned off by lazy people.
People with 8th house and 2nd house placements attract the most envy. If you have planets in these houses and you have social media just know that you got a lot of people watching you. I know of someone with placements there and she posted a video of herself eating at a restaurant she works at during her break. Someone called the restaurant and tried to have her fired saying shes high in the video etc(ofc she wasnt).
Mars & Moon in the 2nd house can be a real envy aspect in synastry. From what Ive seen the planet person is envious of the house person.
Sooo many people where the parents are from two different countries/cultures/religions got Sag Rising.
8th house actors are good at playing painful roles. For example Cate Blanchett.
Sag Moons wont do it if you tell them they have to.
Something Ive noticed, wont be true for everyone tho: The difference between Neptunian Venuses (Venus aspecting Neptune/Pisces Venus) and Saturnian Venuses (Saturn aspecting Venus/Capricorn Venus) is that saturnian Venus expects the same perfection from themselves as they expect from a partner while Neptunian Venuses be expecting to marry Beyonce while looking like Shrek.
Neptunian Venuses dream too much and have unrealistic and high standards. Saturnian Venuses have high standards but they are realistic. They dont want a fairytail princess bc they know it doesnt exist, they want someone who looks good on paper and they usually look good on paper themselves.
Saturnian Venuses can also be satisfied with someone who hasnt made it yet as long as they know the person is ambitious and will make it in the end, while neptune energy wants to be saved by someone who already made it.
Mars conjunct Midheaven be having a lot of public beefs. Or might be known for being a winner or ruthless. Beyonce for example got Mars in the 10th house and everyone who messed with her and Jay Z just magically disappeared from the spotlight.

Breaking Down (Chapter Three)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Leighton Murray & Reader, Leighton Murray x Tatum (background)
Warning(s): description of panic attack and vomiting, slight reference to eating disorder, angst
Words: 1600, Part 3/?
Part 1 / Part 2
Leighton attends the fundraising party for the Women's Center and things go badly. Luckily, reader is there to help again.
You attended the Women’s Center Fundraiser party dressed in an outfit that you hoped was giving “Shane from the L Word’s leather ensemble.” Not that you really saw yourself as a “Shane,” you just wanted to look hot.
You were leaning against a wall, drinking a mocktail and talking with two of your friends, one dressed as Santana Lopez and the other in a “League of Their Own” style uniform, when Leighton Murray entered the door to the Women’s Center.
Her costume was unmistakable - Cate Blanchett in “Carol.” Absolutely classic. You smiled and tried to catch her eye, which felt foolish. You doubted that she would remember you. It had been a number of days since you met her mid-panic attack and she hadn’t texted you.
But Leighton saw you and her eyes lit up with recognition. She smiled and gave you a polite wave of her fingers, which you returned. She looked like she was going to approach you, but then her eyes darted elsewhere, your friend asked you a question, and you lost sight of Leighton in the crowd.
The night continued uneventfully. You kept catching glances of Leighton; first, talking to Alicia (dressed as Elton John, Leighton’s ex - you were informed), and later, on the arm of a blonde you didn’t know (notably not in costume, Leighton’s current girlfriend, not her doppleganger as her appearance would suggest. Tatum, junior - you were told).
Your friends caught your eyes following Leighton throughout the party and they teased you but indulged you anyways, supplying you with the context about who Leighton was with, likely to alert you to the fact that the girl who you were so clearly crushing on was not available.
Your group was on your third round of drinks (just orange and cranberry juice for you, bottom shelf vodka with about as much juice as found in a LaCroix for them) and dancing along to the party music. But no matter how hard you tried, you just couldn’t keep your eyes off the blonde.
Leighton and Tatum were examining the table of auction items. Leighton was smiling and reading the description of every item. Tatum was making a disgusted face as she picked up a handmade pinch-pot.
You couldn’t hear what went down, but visually, the couple clearly got into an argument. After a moment of the heated exchange, Tatum stormed out of the building and slammed the door behind her. Leighton was frozen in place for a second before Alicia swooped in to talk to her.
You grimaced at the scene. Your friend gently touched your arm, “she’s like… the epicenter of lesbian drama, you really should let her go.”
You frowned, “yeah… maybe you’re right.”
Alicia left Leighton in peace and Leighton quickly darted to where drinks were being served. She angrily threw back two shots of vodka in rapid succession and then began counting in her head while waiting for the bartender to pour her a third.
Leighton felt like the room was spinning. She wasn’t that drunk already, was she? Over the next few minutes, she became a victim to an onslaught of sensations: her throat tightened, her mouth filled with weirdly warm saliva, her ribs hurt, her hands tremored and all she could hear was her own racing heart pounding in her ears.
Leighton beelined for the bathroom and barely got the door locked before she was retching into the toilet, this time, completely involuntarily.
She started sobbing as she flushed the toilet and the sobbing quickly evolved into hyperventilating. Leighton crouched on the floor and hugged her knees to her chest while spiraling down into the worst panic attack she’d ever had.
Almost an hour passed and you hadn’t seen Leighton reappear after she had spoken with Alicia.
“I’ll be right back,” you told your friends as you walked away and approached the brunette, “hey, Alicia, do you know where Leighton is?”
“Oh, um, I think she was going to grab a drink? Why?”
“I’m just looking for her, thanks.”
You started to squeeze between people at the party, heading toward the drinks.
When you passed the bathroom, you saw someone banging on the door and shouting, “come on, you’ve been in there for like thirty minutes! I gotta piss!”
There was no answer from inside the bathroom. The yelling party guest tried the door handle again and it was locked.
You slid past the shouting person and knocked on the door, “hey, uh, Leighton? Is that you in there? It’s… it’s your genie…”
You heard a gasp and a sniffle from inside the bathroom and then the door unlocked. You grabbed the handle and opened the door.
“Hey what the fuck? No cutting the line!”
“Find somewhere else to piss!” You responded before closing and locking the door again and finding yourself standing over the form of Leighton Murray crouching on the bathroom floor, tears streaming down her face.
Leighton could barely speak while hyperventilating, she choked out words between gasps for air, “it’s… happ- happening… again!”
You knelt down beside her and wrapped your arms around her, “Leighton it’s okay… you’re safe. You’re going to be alright.”
Leighton trembled in your arms and continued to sob. Her breathing was ragged and high in her throat. She gripped your forearm tightly and nearly carved crescent moons into your skin with her nails but you didn’t mind.
You slid the fur coat she was wearing off her shoulders and untied the costume scarf around her head, “is this okay?”
She nodded, so you took the pins out of her updo and ran your fingers through her hair to ease it out of the tight style and let it fall down her back.
Slowly but surely, Leighton calmed. Enough, at least, to speak, “I hate this… I wish this wouldn’t keep happening… I’m falling apart…”
“Oh, Leighton…” you hugged her as tight as you could and rubbed her back.
She buried her face into the crook of your neck while her crying slowed and her breathing continued to steady. Leighton sniffled, pulled away slightly and wiped her nose on her sleeve, “I’m… I’m such a fucking mess…”
You wiped the streaks of tears off of her cheek with the back of your hand. You didn’t have the faintest idea of what to say at this moment so you just remained quiet, giving her the option to fill the silence if she wanted to.
“Why… Why do you keep rescuing me?”
“I don’t know, Leighton… it just seems like you need it right now."
She stared at you for a moment with wide eyes, wet and red from crying, “what do I do?”
“Let's just focus on getting you out of here, kay?”
Leighton nodded.
You took her hands and slowly stood with her, “there, take it slow, that’s it. I’ve got you.”
You led Leighton out of the party with your arm around her shoulder and the other hand holding hers.
Leighton interlaced her fingers with yours and squeezed you so tight that it almost hurt. Once you were outside of the building, she took a deep breath of chilly air and closed her eyes for a moment.
When she was ready, you started along the path to her dorm, which you knew now.
“Can I make a strange request?” she asked softly.
“What’s up?”
“Could… could I maybe crash at yours? Just for tonight, of course… I don’t… I don’t want to go back to my room…”
“You’re sure that’s what you want?”
Leighton nodded nervously.
“Then, yes, of course. You can come to my dorm.”
You instructed Leighton to sit on your bed while you grabbed a pajama shirt and sweatshorts of yours for her to sleep in.
Handing her the folded clothes, you said, “the bathroom is just through there. Do you need anything else? I think I have a backup toothbrush around here somewhere…”
“I… that would be nice… are you sure this is okay?
“It’s totally okay, I promise.”
You found an unopened toothbrush and gave it to her and Leighton went into the bathroom to change.
She came back out a few minutes later while you were laying a blanket and pillow on your futon couch and opening it up to it’s flat position.
“Thank you,” Leighton began, “you’re really a godsend.”
You smiled, “you’re welcome, but it’s nothing really. I’m happy to help. The bed is all yours, I’ll sleep here tonight.”
“What? No, no! I’m the one crashing let me take the couch-”
“No, Leighton. Please, take the bed. I want you to.”
“That’s… really sweet.”
“Are you ready for bed now, or do you want to do something to wind down first? We could watch something, or whatever you want really.”
Leighton smiled softly, “I’d like that. I should also text my roommates so they know I’m not dead.”
“Good idea,” you sat down and opened up your laptop, loading Netflix, “ooh do you want popcorn?”
Leighton’s eyes lit up, “you have popcorn?!”
“Yeah, just the microwave kind. Is that okay?”
“That sounds incredible right now.”
Leighton texted her suitemates that she was okay while you popped popcorn in the dorm kitchen on your floor and then you found yourselves sitting beside each other on your bed with your laptop in your lap. You ate popcorn and watched the pilot of The Good Place and laughed until Leighton was fast asleep on your shoulder.
You turned the show off and carefully slid out from beneath Leighton’s head while laying her down on the pillow. She stirred while you put the blankets over her and cracked an eye open.
“Hey, you fell asleep…”
“Mmmkay… g’night…” she mumbled.
You giggled, “night, Leighton. See you in the morning.”
“Mmhmm…” Leighton closed her eyes again and was out like a light.

Thoughts on Galadriel.
To be honest, I do not think the Noldor who lived in Beleriand and ME after the war liked Galadriel much. (I love Galadriel and loved what Cate Blanchett as her in the movies) But like thinking about the Noldor of Beleriand, excluding those who lived in Gondolin and Nargothrond before both kingdoms fell, Galadriel basically abandoned the Noldor the moment she set foot in Beleriand. She went to Menegroth and stayed there under the protection of Melian for the most part of the first age, all while the rest of the Noldor, her brothers included, were out in the frontlines of war.
Even during the long peace, most of the Noldor in Beleriand had to see orcs attacks and such, their homes were not 100% safe, they didn't have the luxury of being protected by a Maia. The Valar had more or less abandoned the people of Beleriand (not just the Noldor) to their fates. So while the people who lived in Barad Eithel, Dorthonion, Ladros, Himlad, who were basically the ones holding the siege, all those people who died during the fire. Who had to move further south. Those elves could see Fingon, Fingolfin, Angrod, Aegnor, and the Feanorians willing to protect their people and die for them. (and I bet Aredhel would have been there too if she hadn't been kidnapped by Eol but that's another thing). But like Galadriel once she stepped in Doriath she never left until she felt considerably threatened and when she did, she and Celeborn moved east beyond the blue mountains. She wasn't even there when the war of wrath really broke out. Like right now I don't really remember if she managed to see the host of valinor and when the war was done and she did come back to the coast... she was denied passage.
Galadriel couldn't go back to Valinor by the end of the first age because I remember reading that she was denied passage, because she was not humble. The Galadriel we see in LOtR is an older and wiser Galadriel that had perhaps realized that most of her actions in the first age were born of hypocrisy (Hipocrisy was a big theme in the first age but that's also another story).
So what I want to get at is, Galadriel was not named queen of the Noldor and was not included in Noldori Politics at all during the second age (looking at you Amazon), because I don't think the Noldor considered one of them anymore. I think that the moment she decided to marry a sinda and remain in menegroth with the rest of Thingol's people she was 'set aside' by the Noldor as a whole. So yeah, those are my thoughts regarding Galadriel, if anyone else wants to add anything else, I'll be more than happy to read your thoughts <3

hi and welcome to my ted talk about the latest episodes of what if, please read through 💙(2)
The children of Odin are clearly better off without him. I mean, look at her!! (she actually reminds me of a Valkrie at a first look 🤔)
Tumblr media
"Having your crown, you threw away your sword, forgetting that she was your own daughter"
"You cannot defend darkness with darkness. Only light." AND SHE DIDDD. I JUST LOVE HOW BADASS SHE WAS THIS EPISODE.
In this universe, Hela is not the godess of death anymore, because she doesn't value the same ideas she used to before learning the light part of life. But I wonder, since it hasn't been said in the episode, what is she the godess of now? Maybe she kept the death part, but took on life too. The godess of life and death. It comes full circle. Or perhaps, the Godess of Hope. Because, even though death comes to all, you can have hope in life.
And oh, the end. Of course that for an animated series that doesn't go a lot over 30 min/ episode, you're gonna have an open end.
Which is why I love it! Not only the path Hela undergoes, along with her transformation, is crazy and probably doesn't happen a lot of the time, but it also has huge consequences. It is very likely that in this universe, her and her team prevented the rise of Thanos, citting him from his roots. Let's raise a glass or two for s time where the avengers are alive, and Thor and Loki grow up closer together, not apart. 😌
Very important!!!☝🏻 everyone say thank you to Cate Blanchett for her service in voicing Hela once again, it wouldn't have been the same without her.
That being said, thanks for reading <3

For the readers out there, I recently read The Price of Salt (Carol) by Patricia Highsmith and it left me thirsty for more! So, I have now started a collection of Lesbian Pulp Fiction, which is, I have to say, amazing! The cover art alone is magnificent! I can't help but imagine every lesbian character as Cate Blanchett in Carol (testament to how well she played her *ahem* part!) but that's not a bad thing. Here are some I'm adding to my reading list, any suggestions are welcome. To you, I suggest any of Ann Bannon's books... GO READ!
My List:
A Woman's Woman by Toni Adler
I Am a Woman, In Love With a Woman by Ann Bannon
I Prefer Girls by Jessie Dumont
Spring Fire by Vin Packer
The Third Street by Joan Ellis
The Girls In 3-B by Valerie Taylor
Three Women by March Hastings
Twilight Girls by Sherry Dale
Women's Barracks By Tereska Torres

aw yeah lets do this
S-Tier, AKA the Legitimately Good Tier:
HAWKEYE: Maybe my favorite MCU thing I have ever watched.
+ If you let Jeremy Renner actually act and give him a script, he's fucking great. + Kate Bishop is a perfect mess and I love her, I love she's young and excitable but also takes things seriously, she feels like she's a work in progress, I love her. + MAYA. Holy shit the gravity well of this character, how her presence dictates any scene she is in. Truly stellar. + This entire miniseries is like an extended apology for Hawkeye in every other appearance. "Sorry we dropped the ball with this character so consistently, we will bring the A game here." + The importance of disability. I'm among the ppl who was upset that Hawkeye's disability was dropped, so the way it is centered over and over and over in this, how its practical, how it's funny, how it's sad, how it gives us the most devastatingly emotional scene in all of the MCU yes I am talking about the phone call scene, finally. Fucking finally. + Florence fucking Pugh and her entire charm offensive. + The car chase scene.
- The first episode is unfortunately REALLY slow. - Nah that's all I got. I love this one.
THOR: RAGNAROK
+ "Asgard isn't a place, it's a people" is maybe the most poignant message any MCU film has ever managed. + Literally the funniest movie, but also basically a repair job of character building for everyone in it. + The camerawork in this one makes me so happy. + Tom Hiddleston is given so much to do and he's there with heels on, spectacular. + The giant turret/pegging visual pun, god bless. + Cate Blanchett can kill me.
- uuuuuuuuh. It's not as good as Hawkeye. Yeah.
GOTG Vol 2
+ Sorry but I am a GOTG Truther, I really do think its the one storyline in the MCU that is allowed to get away with really fucking intense character drama because it's not considered "main line." There is a reason ppl rioted when they tried to remove Gunn, and I'm with them. + The only good thing Chris Pratt has done since Parks and Rec. + The way this storyline centers on death and grief is devastating. + Rocket Racoon is the best character in the MCU and we all know it.
- I think the initial treatment of Mantis is REALLY rough even though in the end I think it works, but that's a hell of a hump to get over.
A-TIER, AKA the Great for a MCU Flick Tier:
BLACK PANTHER
+ My biggest problem with the MCU is the creative desert of its set and costume design, the way it feels like nothing is given time to breathe in the creative process. BP is the antithesis of that. I would watch a four hour documentary just on the visual design of this movie, from the architecture to the costumes to the make-up, everything. I don't want to hear from the director or writers, I want to hear four hours of just the craftspeople talking about their work. It's monumental. + Best Villain in the MCU, bar none. + Only MCU film to move me to actual tears in the movie theatre.
- I loved this movie! For the life of me I could not tell you the plot. I understand the plot of every Mission Impossible film but I don't know the plot of this movie. - If this movie was allowed to cut, like, 20 minutes of action and replace it with more character drama, it'd be the best MCU film.
IRON MAN 3
+ The MCU Movie That Pulls Exactly Zero Punches About Being About Mental Health And PTSD Holy Shit + Rhodey and Pepper get so much to do and I like an ensemble piece so much + Shane Black is in love with RDJ and I'm so happy for him + Pepper gets to be a lil monsterfied and that's hot
- Doesn't have Sam Rockwell. - The plot is kinda fully secondary to the character work, which imo is fine, but yanno.
GOTG Vol 1
+ All the stuff I said about GOTG Vol 1
- It's not Vol 2, which benefits from having all the bedrock foundation built by this movie to spring from.
B-TIER, AKA It's Fine I Guess:
IRON MAN 1
It's good! It invented the wheel! Part of it are fucking agonizingly painful to watch in 2023 but it also has more heart than 80% of the franchise so.
IN A CAVE. WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS.
LOKI
Okay it feels shitty of me to judge this one on its technical faults bc apparently it was shot during the pandemic and that causes a lot of the issues with the camerawork, the awkward editing, and just how Weird everything was put together. But also it's REALLY stilted and awkward, which butts up against the good script and the better acting, so IDK man.
Owen Wilson is amazing. Even my mother thought the way they canonized Loki being bi was a cop-out. And the final twist pissed me off. I hope Season 2 is better.
THOR 1
I DUNNO WHAT TO TELL YOU, BUT KENNETH BRANAGH UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT.
DR STRANGE AND THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS
This movie is a mess but once i figured out it was trying to be The MCU Does Gothic Horror, I was a lot more on board. It has all the flaws of the original Dr Strange and is hard to visually follow like most MCU films, but also has America Chavez, who I adore.
IRON MAN 2
It has Sam Rockwell, I don't give a fuck.
C-TIER, AKA I wish I cared but I do not 8C
DR STRANGE
I dunno I like the actual character of Strange weirdly, I like what a complete fucking asshole he is, I like his god complex and how he reacts to his disability as a surgeon. On the other hand what the fuck is Tilda Swinton doing here, this is just awful. My biggest issue with this film is that it didn't have to be this terrible but every decision made about it feels so fucking thoughtless and myopic.
WANDAVISION
yanno. i cannot even explain why i fell off this so hard. Like, this one Had Me all the way up to and including the Agatha reveal, but like the final episodes after that reveal somehow left me completely cold and uncaring. it's genuinely weird.
D-TIER, AKA Oh my god no thank you
AVENGERS
I hate the writing. Like, I haaaaate the writing. I feel like the only likeable relationship in this is Tony and Bruce, and that does not carry this movie. The quip-driven writing, the way the need for a joke supercedes naturalistic voices and dialogue making sense, it pisses me off. I hate the writing. Heartless movie.
BLACK WIDOW
oh my god i'm actively angry at this movie okay because for the first 20 minutes, I was like "wait, is this going to be a real movie," because it felt smaller, the action felt more realistic, that fight between the Widow and Yelena in the beginning felt like it could have been out of MI: Fallout, and the other fight between Natasha and Yelena in the safehouse was also good, I really thought for a few moments that this could be Good
and then it just took a hard right into The MCU Tries And Fails To Make MI: Fallout (They Even Stole The Mask Gag, What The Fuck Was That) and not only was I disappointed, I was like retroactively pissed for the 20 minutes when I had hope in my heart. If not for David Harbour's character, I would have just left in the middle of this movie.
AVENGERS: ENDGAME
Its not at bad as Infinity War! Nebula and Rocket carried this movie on their fucking backs. But what do I know, I liked Renner's mohawk of sadness.
F-Tier, AKA Fuck This Movie
INFINITY WAR
Fuck this movie with a rusted steel dildo, fuck this entire fucking movie, I despise it. The writing is so actively fucking terrible I want to fistfight whoever is responsible. I fucking hate the attempts to humanize Thanos over how sad he is about the daughter he abused and then murdered, boo fucking hoo, I hate the joylessness of the superhero combinations, I hate the quip-driven writing, I hate this movie with a burning passion. This might be one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Soulless and destitute.

Hi,
I make period drama style gifs for free. If you use gif packs, please like and reblog them. Most of my projects are already ready, but every day I post no more than 190 gifs. Because that was the reason why my previous account was blocked.
I tried to make gif packs in a format more familiar to you with a link to a separate page. However, unfortunately, I did not succeed because of the large format of high-quality gifs.
I want to explain about color processing. Usually, I improve the contrast, brightness and saturation, but leave the naturalness of the film. I don't make the contours too sharp because I like the aesthetic of it looking like a natural image.

A tremendous thank you to everyone reading, whether you’ve been with me from the start, or are a new follower catching up, or anything and everything in between.
I’m finally answering any and all questions about this story, so if there’s something you’re curious about that isn’t covered below the cut, send me an ask!
As many have already successfully deduced, the true story this has been based on is what’s known as “The Galapagos Affair.”
Tumblr media
I first heard this story recounted on a true crime podcast. When listening to this completely ridiculous, stranger-than-fiction story I could see so many scenes playing out in my mind in the Sims. The release of the Island Living EP made the idea seem even more feasible, and it wasn’t long after I finished my Island Living play-through that I decided to head back to Sulani and retell the story that had been living in my head rent-free as best I could with the Sims as my medium. Almost 3 years later, here we are. ☺️
Tumblr media
Of course, from the beginning I've had to lean into certain changes to fit my retelling into the scope of the Sims. Sara’s best friend Fleck the raccoon, in reality, was a donkey (above). The Countess, or rather, Baroness, never carried her signature whip (not that CC objects or poses aren’t available for that, I just wasn’t up to the adventure of sourcing them for my game 😅), and there wasn’t any talk of death by pufferfish in real life. (Thank goodness we got both chickens and canning in game with the release of Cottage Living or I really would have had to deviate from the true story.)
I changed names, too, so it wasn’t too easy for anyone to Google and spoil the ending for themselves or others. I chose to include the character of the Selvadoradian (read: Ecuadorian) guide who gets written out of the hotel company party, but missed the opportunity to include the overlooked Ecuadorian teenager hired on by Doctor Roder (real name: Ritter) to help them settle into their new surroundings, as I did not learn of him until getting my hands on Dore’s book shortly after beginning my series. (And here I thought I’d done my research...) Out of a desperate need for some comic relief, I dialed up the eccentric in “eccentric millionaire” and made Captain “call me Allan” Wolcott (Hancock) a real character. I’d like to think I did a good job making Sara Dach in Dore Strauch’s likeness, but certainly took my liberties with everyone else. CAS isn’t my strong suit.
Tumblr media
It honestly feels a bit weird to share these photos, perhaps because I’ve kept the true story inspiration under wraps for the better part of 3 years, but also because they’re real people. With the exception of the Baroness (and arguably perhaps, to a lesser degree, Doctor Ritter), I don’t think any of these people would have necessarily chosen to step into the spotlight that was thrust upon them (though both surviving women did go on to choose to remain in that spotlight in order to tell their own respective versions of events).
I’m obviously quite unsure of what any one of them would make of having their story fictionalized via screenshots of a life simulation video game posted to a social media platform in the 21st century... 😄 But I’d like to think I've done right by them by exploring their at-times ridiculous words and actions with empathy (yes, even for you, Friedrich) and not charging in with clear-cut hero and villain portrayals based on whatever I might think happened.
If you’re interested in learning more about the Galapagos Affair, there are loads of short and to the point articles out there (some linked below). You might also be interested in watching the documentary (starring the inimitable Cate Blanchett as the voice of Dore) which features a lot of archival footage, news clippings, journal entries, missives, and photos. If you’re really keen, you may even want to read one or both of the survivor’s books. Dore’s book is fairly dense, and focuses exclusively on the events of the Galapagos Affair. Margret’s is a quicker read, though it goes into a lot more detail into everyday life and homemaking on a remote island and also covers their life on the island over the following decades. And of course their retellings of both key and mundane events differ quite a bit. Both are certainly worth exploring!

Resident Evil Revised TV Series Idea.
The show should be told American Horror Story like meaning its gonna be anthology-ish based with stories bouncing back with returning characters.
Season 1’s cast is Jessica Henwick as Jill Valentine, Kellan Lutz or Sebastian Stan as Chris Redfield, Antony Starr as Albert Wesker, David Harbour as Barry Burton, Charlie Hunam as Richard Aiken, Jack Quad as Brad Vickers and Erin Moriarty as Rebecca Chambers.
Season 1 is an adaptation of RE1 taking creative liberties from the remake and original. The one difference is that Brad’s helicopter is hit by crows leading him to nearly crash and fly away, this results in a subplot of Brad returning to HQ and finds dirt on Irons before returning.
Season 2 has a different set of characters and a bigger budget with Hailee Steinfeld as Claire Redfield, Mason Dye as Leon S. Kennedy, Sadie Sink as Sherry Birkin, Elizabeth Olsen or Laurie Holden as Annette Birkin, Karen Fukuhara as Ada Wong, Temura Morrison as HUNK and Jason Issacs or Paul Bethany as William Birkin. Takes influence from the RE2 Remake.
Season 3 is an adaptation of RE3 Nemesis mixed with the remake. Jill is the same, Oscar Isaac plays Carlos Oliveira, Jonathan Adams as Tyrell Patrick, Tom Wlaschiha as Mikhail, and Michael Fassbender as Nicholai Zinoviev.
Season 4 adapts a story from the Umbrella Chronicles which is the fall of Umbrella and also Code Veronica Jamie Campbell as Alfred Ashford and Natalie Dormer as Alexia Ashford. Also Tye Simpkins as Steve Burnside.
Season 5 adapts the story of Leon and Krauser (John Cena or Frank Grillo) with Jenny Ortega as Manuela Hidalgo.
Season 6 is an adaptation of Resident Evil 4 with Mason Dye reprising his role as Leon and Cena or Grillo as Krauser alongside Fukuhara as Ada while newcomers Ashley Graham and Luis Sera are played by Natalia Dyer and Diego Luna with Javier Bardem as Saddler. A couple of unknowns for Mendez and Salazar.
Season 7 adapts Resident Evil Revelations with Jason Momoa as Parker Luciani, Kit Harrington as Raymond Vester and Alexandra Daddario as Jessica Sherawat.
Season 8 is an adaptation of RE5 but it’s more in line with the original draft albeit the mind controlled Jill part is there. Danai Guerera is Sheva Alomar, Daniel Kaluuya as Josh Stone, Jesse Plemons as Richardo Irving and Monica Belucci as Excella Gionne.
Season 9 adapts Resident Evil 6 with most of the cast returning and a better written Jake Muller played by Wyatt Russell and has been reimagined as a BSAA soldier instead of a mercenary who teams up with Sherry Birkin played by Billie Lourde with Liam Hemsworth playing Piers Nivans and Jill tagging along. Also Simmons is changed from instead of being a member of a secret society, he was just trying to cause global bio terror attacks to promote the his own agendas of a better secured world with Carla Radames being a rogue operative and an ally of Ada’s. Temura Morrison returns as HUNK and is Ada’s partner.
Season 10 is Resident Evil Revelations 2 with Emily VanCamp as Alex Wesker with Harbour reprising his role as Barry Burton, Millie Bobby Brown as Moira Burton, and an unknown actress for Natalia. Steinfeld returns as Claire too.
Season 11 adapted Resident Evil 7 fully with Joe Keery or Chris Hemsworth as Ethan Winters (to make the plot sound more sensical, Ethan is a private investigator and a former RPD cop), Emilia Clarke is Mia Winters, Michael Rooker is Jack Baker, Toni Colette as Marguerite Baker, Rooney Mara as Zoe Baker and Aaron Paul as Lucas Baker with Stan returning as Chris.
Season 12 is an RE8 adaptation with Cate Blanchett or Gwendolie Christie as Lady Dimitrescu (CGI), Eva Greene as Donna Beneviento, Nicholas Cage as Karl Heisenberg, Stellan Skarsgard as Salvatore Moreau, and Emily Blunt as Mother Miranda. Hound Wolf squad consists of Jill, Chris, Barry and Rebecca.

Best Conclusions i‘ve Ever Seen in Cinematic History to two of DreamWorks‘ famoust Franchises.
Madagascar 3 is fantastic Not only because of DuBois, But also because of our funny Major Characteres. They make Me laugh every Time and they were Are Big Part of my Childhood. Particulary the Penguins and King Julien. Thank you to all who work-and make Madagascar possible.
Httyd3, I cry every Time I See it. It‘s so underrated and it should had Win the Oscar of 2019, because this Movie is Just Wonderful. Emotional. Funny. Romantic. The Message is soooo delightful. The Theme of Love Works so Well. The Animation is stunning…
Very Good Job Dean DeBlois, Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Cate Blanchett, Gerad Butler, Graig Ferguson and all who work on the Masterpieces of the Httyd-Franchise. It‘s my Number One of all Franchises I‘ve Ever Seen and it means so much to Me. Hiccup, Astrid, Toothless and their Friends inspire Me until this Day.

I was thinking about how due to Tolkien's love of Norse Mythology there are some obvious similarities between Loki and Sauron. That got me thinking about what Norse mythological would fit Galadriel? Obviously, her Christian parallel is the Virgin Mary. After much thought, I think she reminds me of the Vanir goddess Freya ("Lady"). Freya was not only the goddess of beauty and fertility, but also Queen of the Valkyries, and associated with death. She is much of a fierce warrior as she is a divine beauty. She is the Goddess of Magic, specifically, "seidr," a femme-centered magic that involved shamanism, weaving spells, healing, and manipulating fate. Apparently, Freya taught Odin seidr, leading to him having genderfluid aspects, same as Loki. It should also be noted that while physical descriptions of Freya are rare, some scholars have claimed she was supposed to be a blonde (like Gal), redhead, or strawberry blonde. She was definitely noted for her independence, pride, and having a missing husband, Od (possibly an aspect of Odin). She had her own domain and hall, Sessrumnir, resembling how Gal rules Lotherien in her own right. She also had lovers (Haladriel?), and a close relationship with her twin brother, Freyr (reminds me of Finrod).
I've thought about Loki and Sauron being similar (and since I'm also a huge fan of Loki, especially Tom Hiddleston's version) many times!!! 😀 This is going to be a long post but have been meaning to write this at some point. Tolkien was hugely inspired by Norse myth for LOTR and Middle Earth so it wouldn't surprise me at all if Loki was an inspiration for Sauron. Plus, in the myths Loki also had reddish hair and green eyes so there's a connection between that and "Rings of Power" with the Halbrand form of Sauron. LOL 😏 Marvel too has added so much to Loki in both the comics and the MCU. I realized watching the "Loki" series and the films that he's gotten the redemption arc that many of us have given Halbrand/Sauron in our fics and I'm even more excited for tonight's season 2 finale of "Loki" and what might be coming for the films. It seems like what I wish could happen for Halbrand/Sauron is happening with Loki, including a Haladriel like ship with Loki and Sylvie.
That's a great comparison for Galadriel too. She does fit a lot with Freya. I've read multiple versions of Norse myth, especially Neil Gaiman's and Tolkien wrote his own too which I plan to read soon, and I can see it. Will point out too there's long been a theory in Norse myth that Freya and Frigg (Frigga in Marvel) are the same person and she had a split personality with each version. Frigg is Odin's wife (and Thor and Loki's mom in Marvel) and that queenly part of her fits there too.
Also I feel like Galadriel could also be a mashup of both of Loki's wives. His first wife Angrboda was a Jotun (frost giant in Marvel), a power being that Loki was also half as he was also half Asgardian. Angrboda is also a powerful witch and was the mother of Loki's 3 oldest children: Fenris the Wolf, Jorm the world serpent, and Hela the goddess of Hel (played by Cate Blanchett, the other Galadriel in the MCU but switched to be Odin's daughter and Thor and Loki's sister). When Loki became a god and joined Odin he left them to start his new life and their marriage ended.
Then his 2nd wife Sigyn is actually who I normally ship Loki with both in Norse mythology and Marvel (except the MCU as it seems like they merged his wives and his other Marvel love interest Amora/Enchantress into Sylvie as a mashup character even though Sylvie is also another universe's Loki LOL). Sigyn is normally drawn as being a blonde or red haired Asguardian and she's devoted to him even though in Marvel Comics' version he tricked her into marrying him by pretending to be her fiancé and she still fell in love with him after that. LOL (And I've seen Haladriel fics with this exact storyline.) She ends up becoming the Goddess of Fidelity to his God of Mischief (or Stories as he becomes this redemptive form in Marvel and maybe soon in the MCU depending on tonight's finale and it reminds me of Mairon). In the Marvel comics he also teaches her to become a sorceress. They also have two sons together though depending on the story one or both die tragically (which reminds me of Celebrian), and one is a werewolf.
So yeah I see so much of Norse mythology in Tolkien's work and it's fun to piece all the inspirations together like this. Plus, I'm getting 3 new romance and non-romance novels about Loki with Angrboda, Sigyn, and Amora soon and whatever that new Marvel novel out next year "What if Loki was Worthy?" too so more to read and compare soon.
ETA: I've taken out the tags that relate to Loki and the other Norse mythology characters as I got hate directed towards me from fellow "Loki" fans all because a lot of them don't like what Marvel and the show has done. Just wanted it to go in my blog's tags so it's easier to find and organized but kept the "ROP" related tags since we were talking about that originally as it relates more to Sauron and Galadriel.

Ariana Grande x youtuber!reader
Part 8 of "positions"
Part 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 5.5 (1) | 5.5 (2) | 5.5.5 | 6 | 7 | 7.5
Tumblr media
Everything went back to normal, in a sense. Of course, there was a shift, from staging a relationship to rendezvousing in secret but ultimately you felt like you were her friend again. You thought that the warnings from her PR manager would deter Ariana from meeting you, but the ever-growing things taking up space in your house - soap bottles with names you can't pronounce, cosmetic products littered around your bathroom sink, a small bag filled with clothes on top of the washing machine, told you otherwise. While her things are piling up in your home, they replaced some of your clothes that she "stole".
The familiar ping from your phone alerted you of incoming text, and you didn't have to read it to know who it was from and what they had sent. There was only one person currently who would text you at 5 PM on a Wednesday.
Princess
wanna come over?
no one's home
You
Why would I do that if there isn't anyone home?
Princess
smartass
i'm bored
and lonely
You
And horny?
We just saw each other three days ago
Princess
...no
just wanted to watch a movie with you
You
Alright then, I would never say no to movies.
I'll be there in an hour.
Princess
too long, i'll sent a car
In less than twenty-five minutes, you found yourself sitting on a recliner very similar to the type found in cinemas but far comfier and roomier. In fact, the entire room could be described as such; a premium movie theater.
"I didn't know you had a home theater, didn't see it during the house tour you gave."
"That's because this was a recent addition to this house."
Ariana had gone all out for it, finding the perfect combination of mimicking a movie theater and keeping its interior design the same as the rest of the house. This resulted in the room being similarly tasteful and cozy while providing an authentic movie-watching experience. It's something you dreamed of having in your own home.
"It turned out beautiful, great decision made on your part." Besides the renovation for the room, Ariana had also put in great effort to prepare everything you could want while watching a movie - including popcorn and various snacks on an extendable table from the armrest, drinks in the cupholder, and blankets. "So what will we be watching in this incredible space?"
"Anything you like," Ariana replied. "What are your other favorite films, besides the ones you had framed posters of."
"Well, I like queer films like 'The Handmaiden' and 'A Portrait of a Lady on Fire' and 'Carol' to name a few."
"We should watch them then."
"Uh..." You scratched the back of your neck, heat rising to your cheeks as you recalled certain scenes they had. "I just realized that they all have love scenes so perhaps you should watch them alone."
"Or with someone to reenact those scenes with."
You couldn't argue with that logic. "I supposed. Though there are some tragic plotlines where it could be a turn-off."
"We'll write our own happy endings then."
That was the best proposal if you ever heard of one.
"Alright, which one do you want to watch?"
"I've heard of Carol, so let's watch that."
It was a different experience for sure, watching Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara's performances on a big screen, as compared to your laptop. You could catch every subtle gesture and every lingering gaze. The surround sound worked wonders, amplifying emotion in every word exchanged between the lovers. It was as though you were in that very diner, eavesdropping on their conversation.
You get absorbed into the film, as you usually do despite watching it before, unblinking as the plot unravels, refreshing your memory of the movie. Being so engrossed, you almost forget that you weren't alone, reciting along the line Carol was whispering to Rooney - "My Angel, flung out of space."
A scuffle caught your attention and you turned toward the sound. Illuminated by the brightness of the screen, you observed the way Ariana fixed her gaze on anything but the screen, her thighs pressed tightly together.
"Ariana," You whispered. Despite the softness, she still jumped at your voice before fixing her attention on you. "Are you... aroused?"
In the dim glow, you saw the blush spreading across her cheeks. As imperceptible as it was, you caught the nod of her head. At that moment, you felt like one of those teenagers who makes out in the back of theaters. However, it was Ariana you were with and you weren't going to fumble around in the dark with her.
Instead, you placed your arms - one under her knees and one on her back - and lifted her up. "Let's take you to bed."
You weren't sure how you found the way to Ariana's room, with how your eyes were kept on hers the entire time. Must be the muscle memory.
You only broke eye contact when you heard a squeal and felt a sharp pain in your leg. Instinctively, you stood right back up and opened your mouth to let out a silent exclamation of pain, turning to investigate the cause of it.
"Piggy! I thought you were in your crib."
You placed Ariana down when she tapped on your arm. She squatted to find the site of your injury. You looked down and saw Ariana pouting as she ghosted her fingers over the bite marks. "You keep getting hurt when you're with me."
"Now that you mentioned it, it seems like biting runs in the family." You managed to smile to deliver the joke. "Though it's only karma when a pig bites me."
"Oh my god!" Her pursed lips melted into a beautiful smile as she threw her head back to laugh. Perhaps there was some truth to laughter being the best medicine when the pain disappeared temporarily.
"We have to treat the bite," Ariana said after stifling her laughter. The injury, thankfully, was nothing serious. Just a light nip by Piggy that didn't break any skin. So all you had to do was disinfect the area.
Ariana guided you to her bathroom, where you found yourself positioned in the middle of the bathtub. "You have to remove your pants so they don't get wet."
"Right." You acknowledged, turning around hesitantly to unbuckle your belt. It was the second time you were undressing in front of her. Even after you slid your pants off, you couldn't bring yourself to face her, choosing to sit on the edge of the tub instead.
You heard the sound of running water and moved your leg towards it. A hand stopped you. "Wait, the water's still cold," Ariana said from behind your shoulder. You sat patiently as you observed Ariana checking the water temperature with a finger before placing it on your inner thigh, pushing you towards the tap.
An involuntary shiver ran down your back under her touch. It shouldn't have shocked you, not with all the countless times she had grappled it - the feeling of her skin on yours should be familiar and soothing like the warm water on your leg, not like being out at sea during a thunderstorm.
You were only brought back to your senses with a gentle press of a dry cloth. "Let me do it myself." You said, after clearing your throat. You shifted to grab the towel from her grasp but she moved out of reach.
"I want to do it." Her tone told you that her decision was final. "You have to move out of the bathtub so I can dry you off properly."
You do so as instructed, swinging your legs out of the tub and landing on solid ground. You followed Ariana out of the bathroom. She sat you back on the bed before crouching down to pat your leg with the towel. You observed as she inched it upwards, moving closer to the hem of your boxer briefs. Before you could react, she stood up and positioned herself in between your legs.
Looking up at her with confusion, she placed her hands on your shoulder as she stared into your eyes. "Now that there's no interruption, I want to finish what we had started." Subconsciously, you intertwined your feet and nudged her closer to you. However, with her elbows locked, she didn't lay across your chest as intended. You decided to use your hands to finish the job, settling them on the small of her back. The shake of her head stopped you from applying any sort of pressure. "I want to take care of you this time. For once."
"Oh." The thing was, you were often the giver because you find liked pleasing your partner. That's why you're rarely on the receiving end. Though if you're being completely honest, your insecurities about your body also play a part in declining any returning of favors.
"Tell me what's going on in that pretty head of yours," Ariana broke the silence. She had taken the initiative to untangle herself out of your arms, settling for sitting beside you on the bed. You felt her lightly tugging your fingers, hijacking your attention to focus on her.
She let you take your time, brushing her thumb over the back of your hand as encouragement. "I don't like to be touched. Not sexually at least. Unless, you know, they're someone I've known and been with for a long time."
"Okay," Ariana nodded, shifting closer carefully. "How do you find pleasure then?"
"Well, in my partner's pleasure." You continued after she arched a perfect eyebrow at you. "So as long as she liked it, I would too."
"But what do you like?" She relented, staring into your eyes inquisitively as though they held the answers. "Out of all the things you've done before."
You knew you couldn't beat around the bush any longer, not when she was staring into your soul. "Well, I don't mind using...toys." The sentence gradually softened as you mumbled the words, but it seemed like she heard every bit.
"Give me a minute." She said, hurrying off the bed. She returned a few minutes later with a laptop on hand. The side of your knees touched Ariana's when the both of you repositioned yourself at the center of the bed, with the laptop placed in front of you.
With a few clicks, Ariana opened up a website of a sex toy shop. You repressed the urge to blush when she navigated expertly - clearly knowing her way around. "See anything you like?" She diverted her attention to you, placing her hands on your knee as she peered at you over the rim of her glasses. Her gaze was piercing, emphasized by the frame on her face like she was trying to figure you out.
"Uh- well..." Instead of stammering in embarrassment, you decided that it was much easier if you just showed her. While the website she had brought up had an extensive collection, they didn't have anything you were looking for. So you swiped across the touchpad and searched for the site you were more familiar with. "Probably something like this." You tilted the screen towards her when you found what you wanted.
You knew that this would be something Ariana hadn't tried before unless her exes were into pegging. So you explained to her that she could select whatever size or material she wanted while you would pick the harness.
Ariana flashed you a smile that can only be described as sinful, "You seemed to know quite a bit."
"I've researched extensively." You cleared your throat, changing the subject quickly. "Did you find one that you like?"
"Definitely." She affirmed as she proceeded to add a few items to the cart, much to your sheepish amusement. You settled on a harness you were comfortable with that was also compatible with everything Ariana was getting and a small bottle of lube.
You shouldn't be surprised at how Ariana remained unblinking as she typed in her payment details after seeing the total amount, but you could only laugh in shock internally. Were the toys diamond-studded? You could only wait to find out when they arrive in two to three business days.
In the meantime, your fingers worked fine.
AN: early access to later chapters on my ko-fi page. Also feel free to buy me a drink if you like my work!

hiii, I was wondering what tattoos you think the crew would have? I feel like Lou has a bunch just not visible without clothes off, all black ink like a motorbike on her calf or the cover to her favourite rock band, I can see Deb having a patchy stick n poke she did as a teen but really regrets; Tammy seems like she would have been that rebellious teen and I feel like she has some hidden that would just shock everyone, Nine ball 1000% has a nine ball tatted on her somewhere and prob something else (I get lion tattoo vibes from her)
Ok Rose both seems like the person to have some giant flower mural thing (id guess on her arm) or no tattoos at all but I cant pick; Constance also makes me think, I can totally see her showing up one day with some giant cheesy tat that everyone disapproves of, but i'm not sure. As for Daph I really just don't think she would have any, same goes for Amita tho she would look sick in Henna;
but this is my question to you so I should probably let you answer, sorry if this is long! have a great day and thanks for all your great works! <3
Tumblr media
Lou:
Well, we know (thanks to some gay Tumblr investigating) that Lou has a bicep tattoo of the chemical composition for alcohol, which maybe movie O8 is saying it’s because she’s a bartender, but I like to think this was a sober Lou entering sobriety/AA and literally making alcoholism a permanent part of her via tattoo as a reminder to what she’s been through and where she’s going. I’ve definitely made a joke (maybe more than once) of Debbie asking if Lou still has her “tramp stamp” and while I don’t peg the lower back as a current day Lou Miller tattoo spot, I definitely think she would have some permanent mistakes of her youth that she wears like a badge of honor/rolls her eyes and just embraces and that could very much be there. I agree with the all black ink for some reason, though I don’t have a “why” to it, but that makes sense, and definitely think some would be bike and music themed. I don’t know about a motorcycle itself but something pertaining to it or a brand or the notion of riding and probably a sneaky lyric or two. I also think she has one for Debbie, but I won’t venture a guess at what. Something symbolic that only the two of them would recognize. And I could totally see her having a little memorial tattoo for Danny, her pseudo big brother.
Debbie:
I like this stick n poke idea for Deb, but I’m imagining it in prison, purely for the fact that she can tell Lou she got “tatted” in prison and she thinks it’ll be a great story to lore over her for the rest of their lives. And I can also see it in a sad/painful way of needing to “feel something” TW/or needing a reminder of Lou or something to get her through prison. I think it’s @estel-of-irysi (Hope_S on Ao3) who has Debbie get a little martini tattoo for Danny which I love. I definitely think Deb would have two or three, but very well hidden and super meaningful and purposefully not easily identifiable as a “criminal” and something really only Lou gets to see or she shows off on purpose with the right outfit etc.
Tammy:
Ohhhh, Tammy. I’m 50/50 with no tattoos or 1) either Lou and Deb were getting tattoos in college and Tammy came as moral support and they both teased her relentlessly until she got something and ended up getting the world’s smallest flash tattoo at random or 2) some sort of Cate Blanchett-esque husband/kids initials hidden somewhere. Maybe tucked inside the side of her bra material/against her ribs.
Rose:
This may be boring, but I lean towards no tattoos at all with Rose. Maybe some sort of Celtic knot/warrior symbol hidden somewhere if we lean into the accent, but I can’t picture anything specific
Constance:
We know Awkwafina has tattoos so if we leave Constance at that, then yes. I think she has some, but totally random. Like a taco or something. And I could also see her working on a sleeve and constantly coming to Lou for approval/being really proud that she’s paying for them “legitimately” with her heist earnings and made it through the pain “without morphine or anything, dad!”
Daphne:
Might I be cheesy and say a Rose for Rose? Otherwise, I can see something small like very Pinterest white girl tiny heart/airplane/seashell what-have-you somewhere but more to just say she has a tattoo than for a specific reason
Amita:
I agree with you here. I think she would definitely embrace the tradition of henna/her mother would make sure she did, but I can’t see anything permanent.
Nine Ball:
A nine ball. Case closed.

@wizardysseus tagged me to do my ten favorite movies. ty! 💕i've done top movie lists a couple of times and to be honest my picks never really change or become more interesting, so i put my own little spin on it and decided to do my ten favorite films that i either watched or rewatched in the past year. (ish. i wasn't super strict about if it was exactly within the last 12 months.)
in no particular order...
ten favorite movies i watched within the last year
1. a girl walks home alone at night (2014): as one or two of you may have noticed, i got really into iwtv last year, and so i decided to expand my horizons and make an effort to watch more vampire films to get more familiar with the genre/lore. this was the first film i watched and it was a great introduction. the visuals and music were captivating. skater vampire girl you will forever be in my heart.
2. let the right one in (2008): this one has been on my to watch list for ages, and i finally got around to it thanks to my vampire kick. i have to say it did not disappoint. the story, the cinematography, the performances... all were top tier. the bond between the two leads was fascinating, and it's a great monstrous love story.
3. tàr (2022): i hadn't planned on seeing this one - i find cate blanchett tiresome a lot of the time (still defending woody allen in the year of our lord 2018!) - but i heard some pretty rave reviews by folks whose opinions i generally agree with, so i decided to give it a try. and i think it had a very fascinating script. i really appreciate a story with a lot of ambiguity to it, where you can have several strong interpretations of what's happening that are rooted in the text, and this film definitely has that in spades.
4. nope (2022): the fact this got no love during award season has me scratching my head. while it's not my favorite jordan peele project, the story was very fresh and keke palmer in particular i thought gave a really stellar performance. my main hang-up was with the monster... the non spoiler version being i just found some aspects of it didn't really work for me. but it was still a very solid film.
5. blade runner (1982): i watched this with some co-workers at the place i interned for the summer; we got a giant projector and got to watch it after-hours at the library where we we working and basically take up half a floor with snacks and such. so part of my enjoyment just comes from the fact it's linked in my mind to a nice day that i had. but as a sci-fi fan it was neat to see something so influential to the genre and see how much it had been drawn on. the treatment of the female characters left much to be desired lol, but the grimy future visuals were great, and i can see why it became so iconic.
6. the batman (2022): a superhero movie with actual cinematography, memorable performances, and a killer soundtrack? in this economy??? obviously i'm biased, i'm a huge batman fan and i enjoy robert pattinson, so i'm not exactly the hardest audience member to win over. but there have been so many terrible superhero movies in the past several years, and so seeing one that felt like an actual noir detective story and not just a bunch of quips in front of a greenscreen was a relief. the cast was great, and as a batcat fan it was really great to feel like i was actually being catered to with all focus on their relationship both in the film and all the promotional stuff like the photo-shoots and such. not normally the case in this genre lol.
7. everything everywhere all at once (2022): i don't know that i have anything to say about this movie that hasn't already been said better. it's fun, it's out of the box, michelle yeoh is a treasure, it does a lot with the multi-verse concept. i will say at times the film did feel a bit saccharine, particularly towards the end. ymmv when it comes to sappiness, but it overdid it for me. even so, it was a good time, and i'm very happy for attention it's brought michelle yeoh, who is so phenomenal.
8. turning red (2022): i watched this on a whim after seeing some folks online talking about it, and it was very cute. it reminded me a lot of what it was like to be a weird middle school girl. i don't really feel nostalgic for that part of my life at all, but this did have me thinking of my past self with some affection.
9. coded bias (2020): i believe i watched this after a discussion in a grad school class about racial bias in ai/algorithms. i enjoy a good documentary and found the film quite interesting and informative.
10. eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (2004): this one is one of my all-time favorites. i watched it again not long ago and it really holds up. i love non-linear storytelling and playing with the subjective/fallibility of memory, so this film is really just right in my wheelhouse. thanks to sailor moon, i also am obsessed with stories about whether the same people will fall in love again if they don't have their memories, so again. like catnip to me. the circular nature of the story, the way love is futile in this never ending circular story but still worth fighting for. i will be thinking about this one forever

FILM AWARDS SEASON CHECK-IN Part Deux - No Spoilers
THE GOOD GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY- People can like - or not like - what they want. I can only control what I like. But when I read about people who didn't like GLASS ONION I just think, "Do you just not like fun?" This is a fun film. It's hilarious. I think it improves greatly on KNIVES OUT, which I felt was overpraised. It loosens up Daniel Craig's Benoît Blanc giving him a personality instead of letting his accent do all the work. I found it very clever and entertaining and if Rian Johnson can continue to improve on these films, I would love to see more outings with the character.
Tumblr media
THE MENU: Another fun film. Dark comedy directed by Mark Mylod (SUCCESSION) and written by late night comedy writers Seth Reiss and Will Tracy ( which is remarkable because there is nothing less funny than light night comedy). Centered around a group of strangers who congregate for a night of high dining under Chef Slowik (Ralph Fiennes who can always be trusted to bring dry wit to the table). While I love Anya Taylor-Joy, I think too many of her characters - or rather, how she plays them - are too one-note; too cool and even-keel. Ralph Fiennes continues to be a delightful actor. BABYLON: A stunner. Maybe it's because I love Old Hollywood and loved all the touches and references to that era (Margot Robbie's character is a nod to Clara Bow, even using a quote attributed to Bow as one of her lines. Brad Pitt is drawn after John Gilbert; Jean Smart a Louella Parsons type).
The trailers can't do all 3 hours and 9 minutes of the film justice, but I think it encapsulates the journey the film takes.
Tumblr media
People are already dismissing it as a fawning love story to Hollywood and they're not wrong, but it is a film that doesn't litigate the past. It shows all the seediness within Old Hollywood. The heartbreaking desperation of those who dreamt of being stars. It's an unconditional love of accepting an era warts and all. Margot Robbie gives it 1000% percent. Paramount is running Robbie as Lead and while there are some tremendous female lead performances this season -Olivia Colman in EMPIRE OF LIGHT, Danielle Deadwyler in TILL, Cate Blanchett in TÁR and Michelle Williams in THE FABLEMANS. While I want Danielle Deadwyler to win, I would be so happy if Robbie did. I can't imagine Emma Stone had this role before her. As great as Stone is I don't see that character as richly drawn if it had been another actress doing it.
More films. NO SPOILERS.
RRR: This film is what people meant by crowd-pleaser. My audience was so hyped during this film. Spontaneous clapping and cheers all throughout the film. We were all joined in our love for the over-the-top action, the comedy and the smiting of British soldiers. Like BABYLON, it's a bit over 3 hours but doesn't feel like it. The leads, the story, the action is outstanding. CGI? A bit dodgy, but it's so deliriously fun.
It is on Netflix but as their US distributor stated at the screening Netflix has dubbed it into Hindi instead of using the original Telugu, so if you want the real deal it is in theaters.
Tumblr media
WHITE NOISE: I like films that takes big swings and this and BARDO: FALSE CHRONICLES AND A HANDFUL OF TRUTHS certainly do that and for that alone it makes me love a film. Noah Baumbach's adaptation of Don DeLillo's novel. It was once consider not filmable but Baumbach assembled a great cast to give it the old college try.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The cast makes it work. Much like Cate Blanchett in TÁR who masterfully delivers dialogue that could easily be sedam Driver is able to make it entertaining. Same with Gerwig, Don Cheadle...essentially the entire cast (which includes Andre "3000" Benjamin and Jodi Turner-Smith in small roles, and younger actors Raffey Cassidy and Sam and May Nivola (children of Emily Mortimer and Alessandro Nivola).
Gerwig and Danny Elfman on panel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT: Searing look at the brutality of a war and the folly of men who sacrifice people lives just for their own glory and gain. This is the first film role for Felix Kammerer who got it straight out of theatre school. He is devastating as a teen solider who realizes too late that he and his friends have been sold a bill a goods about the nature of war. Director Edward Berger (with Felix Kammerer and Daniel Bruhl who executive produced the film and has a role in it)
Tumblr media
It's brutal but that's what I loved about it. War should not be glossed over and glamorized. THE PALE BLUE EYE: I am putting this in the GOOD pile even though it probably belongs in the MEH pile because I have never been disappointed in a Christian Bale/Scott Cooper collaboration. This could have been better as it drags in the middle, but it is a promising film and Bale is never not good.
Tumblr media
Bale and Scott Cooper
Tumblr media
Adaptation of Louis Bayard's novel about a retired detective (Bale) who teams up with a West Point cadet by the name of Edgar Allen Poe (Henry Melling, THE BALLAD OF BUSTER SCRUGGS, THE OLD GUARD, Harry Potter whichever film) to uncover the murder of a cadet. I liked the idea of a Sherlock-ian Poe but the film is a pretty straight-forward mystery; as grey as its scenery. But Bale and Melling (who is one of my new favourite actors) are so good. THE MEH THE SON- Florian Zeller's companion piece to THE FATHER. In a lot of ways this is a better film than THE FATHER because I preferred the performances in this more. I think Sir Anthony Hopkins chews the paint off of scenery and I felt he teetered on hamminess in THE FATHER, but he has one scene in this (and a standout scene in ARMAGEDDON TIME) that shows why he's so great...when he manages to not go full ACTOR. Vanessa Kirby is also impressive. However, for me it felt like the cast was trying to wring some emotionality from this dry, mediocre script and for that they should be applauded. On the merits of the story itself, I think PSAs have more heart. THE FABLEMANS - There's been some comparisons of Steven Spielberg's THE FABLEMANS to Alejandro González Iñárritu's BARDO: FALSE CHRONICLES AND A HANDFUL OF TRUTHS because both films are film à clefs, both films are viewed as indulgent (THE FABLEMANS at a 2 1/2 hours; BARDO 2 hours and 54 minutes (apparently there is a cut that has 20 minutes shaved off, but I saw the longer one).
Tumblr media
But if I had to choose one over the other I would go with BARDO. Yes, it is so abstract at times, so surreal and yes, indulgent, but it's not safe. THE FABLEMANS is safe. It's covered in bubble wrapped and handled with gloves. It's behind protective glass it's so safe. For a movie about his love of film and family, Spielberg and co-writer Tony Kushner seems to keep the passion at arms length. But there were high points. Michelle Williams is terrific and the storyline about the parents is much more interesting than anything about young Steven...I mean, Sammy's, life. SHE SAID: This could have been and, perhaps, should have been a TV movie. My issue with the film isn't really the film itself. The acting is fine but staid (with the exception of Samantha Morton who only is in one scene and blows everyone else out the water), the story functional, not unlike reading an article. But it was hard to view the film on its merits when the absurdity of a film saluting the women who exposed Harvey Weinstein, yet it is coming from an industry that shielded Weinstein and rewarded him all the while. DEVOTION: Based on Adam Makos' biography "Devotion: An Epic Story of Heroism, Friendship, and Sacrifice" about the camaraderie between Ensign Jesse Brown and Lt. Tom Hudner (played by Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell, respectively)
Tumblr media
In many ways I liked DEVOTION better then the other films on this list. It's a throwback to old war films which is to say it's not about battle, it's about friendship and duty and valor. Great chemistry amongst the cast, you completely buy the friendship between Brown and Hudner. It is it a solid film. Sony is really pushing it there have been tons of screenings like one hosted by JJ Abrams, another by Amanda Seyfried whose husband Thomas Sadowski costars (and is quite good in it).
