Carrying a banner reading “Father Divine is God,” these followers of the African-American religious leader marched up Lenox Avenue in Harlem on July 31, 1938, chanting “hallelujah,” while the little cleric himself rode in his limousine to cheers from onlookers. The parade was partly in celebration of the new “Heaven” he had acquired, an estate on the Hudson River across from the lands of President Roosevelt, where his followers would live a rural life, and continue to cry “peace, it’s wonderful.”

tonight has been such a great show of how the fans see c!Dream. the language surrounding him is dehumanizing, in the story, he is the book, he is kept in a vault, he is a monster - c!Q and c!Sam are seconds from calling him it, and the fandom reflects so many of these views. he is not a person with feelings, he is a monster, a predator stalking its prey, an obssessed beast. not human, never human with his very own motivations and goals and dreams who plans for something more. he never wans things for a reason that could not be seen as selfish desire, he is evil personified.
but the moment the language around him, by others in the story, the people who hold power over him reflect the lack of humanity that he should be granted, suddenly it is impossible to strip him of this human side. no, he cannot be in a vault, vault is for objects (like the revive book that everyone sees him as).
he is granted only as much humanity as people think he deserves to be punished further

So glad I backtracked to do the creche quest. I hadn’t thought a lot about Lae’zel beyond my impression that she was a bit of a cruel tool (in both senses of the word) held together by a rigid adherence to her religious code (which would’ve been fine if not extremely compelling to me, evil women rights etc etc) but then you get to the creche and it’s like oh. I understand you now.
Being taught to slaughter the siblings you grew up with, being told weakness was an offence to your goddess, service to your goddess being the first teaching you ever learn. It’s so damn good.
The way she desperately clings to this idea that it’s all simply a test, but she spills the blood of her kin to protect you like ough. Deep down she already chose, she believed you, before she even knew it herself.

I’m sorry, it’s 5:30am and the combination of this picture and headline made me laugh so hard I damn near rolled out of bed 😂🤣😂🤣
And for some reason I immediately pictured a scene of Deidara sitting up in bed screaming after having this nightmare. And Sasori is like What the hell? And Deidara tells him the dream and it’s the first (and only) time that Sasori laughs so hard he dislocates his entire face.
