Carrying a banner reading “Father Divine is God,” these followers of the African-American religious leader marched up Lenox Avenue in Harlem on July 31, 1938, chanting “hallelujah,” while the little cleric himself rode in his limousine to cheers from onlookers. The parade was partly in celebration of the new “Heaven” he had acquired, an estate on the Hudson River across from the lands of President Roosevelt, where his followers would live a rural life, and continue to cry “peace, it’s wonderful.”

SONG OF THE WEEK: “Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive.” https://johnnyjblairsingeratlarge.bandcamp.com/track/ac-cent-tchu-ate-the-positive This song was written by the great American songwriters, Harold Arlen & Johnny Mercer in 1944. Mercer sang it in the style of a sermon. He described his inspiration for the lyrics: "[My] publicity agent went to hear a sermon by Father Divine, and his subject was 'you got to accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative.’ …and I said 'Wow, that's a colorful phrase!'" The song has been covered many times in diverse styles, from country to jazz to punk. It reached me through the film soundtrack L.A. CONFIDENTIAL.
This track is from my collection of songs I play in assisted living homes. For some time I've been performing for people in various stages of dementia and disability. I've seen miraculous things happen while singing to people who are considered to be "disconnected"—suddenly they're singing, clapping, tapping, dancing...all because of these familiar tunes. There is proof-positive that music reaches into more areas of the brain than language, math, and other forms of communication. You can help me to continue this work. Your download my music helps to underwrite my expenses to keep doing musical service in these homes. Thanks for tuning in and stay positive!

thinking about how percy jackson is seen as intimidating because of his godly powers from his father but the thing that makes him the most dangerous is his humanity from his mother

tonight has been such a great show of how the fans see c!Dream. the language surrounding him is dehumanizing, in the story, he is the book, he is kept in a vault, he is a monster - c!Q and c!Sam are seconds from calling him it, and the fandom reflects so many of these views. he is not a person with feelings, he is a monster, a predator stalking its prey, an obssessed beast. not human, never human with his very own motivations and goals and dreams who plans for something more. he never wans things for a reason that could not be seen as selfish desire, he is evil personified.
but the moment the language around him, by others in the story, the people who hold power over him reflect the lack of humanity that he should be granted, suddenly it is impossible to strip him of this human side. no, he cannot be in a vault, vault is for objects (like the revive book that everyone sees him as).
he is granted only as much humanity as people think he deserves to be punished further

So glad I backtracked to do the creche quest. I hadn’t thought a lot about Lae’zel beyond my impression that she was a bit of a cruel tool (in both senses of the word) held together by a rigid adherence to her religious code (which would’ve been fine if not extremely compelling to me, evil women rights etc etc) but then you get to the creche and it’s like oh. I understand you now.
Being taught to slaughter the siblings you grew up with, being told weakness was an offence to your goddess, service to your goddess being the first teaching you ever learn. It’s so damn good.
The way she desperately clings to this idea that it’s all simply a test, but she spills the blood of her kin to protect you like ough. Deep down she already chose, she believed you, before she even knew it herself.

Big fan of any time Mulcahy plays along with a bit or makes a joke of his own and Hawkeye is just so delighted and will full-bodied laugh about it. It’s the sweetest thing I love their dynamic so much.

I’m sorry, it’s 5:30am and the combination of this picture and headline made me laugh so hard I damn near rolled out of bed 😂🤣😂🤣
And for some reason I immediately pictured a scene of Deidara sitting up in bed screaming after having this nightmare. And Sasori is like What the hell? And Deidara tells him the dream and it’s the first (and only) time that Sasori laughs so hard he dislocates his entire face.
