❤️: Which character do you think is the most egregiously mischaracterized by the fandom?

this is a tough one because there's so many lol. Barriss (not a villain), Han (not a player), literally SO many of the Jedi, the list goes on. but I think Luke is one of the most interesting cases because I feel he's mischaracterized in different ways by different sides of the fandom. there's the dudebros who think he's just badass, which he is, but nothing else. his most important character trait is quite literally his compassion because it drives the plot of the whole OT. he's a kind and empathetic person, not some embodiment of toxic masculinity bullshit. on the other hand, there's the poor little meow meowfication and infantilization of him from another side of the fandom. yes he's a ray of sunshine but that doesn't mean he can't be tough too!!! he's nice but he also has zero tolerance for bullshit, is headstrong and stubborn, and the furthest thing from shy. many people (myself included) headcanon him as gay or bi and that characterization of him also enforces really harmful stereotypes and narratives about queer men. so in summary, a lot of the fandom mischaracterizes him through a lens of either toxic masculinity or harmful stereotypes. not fun. that got way longer than it was supposed to be, whoops 🙃

🧡: What is a popular (serious) theory you disagree with?

in-universe: that Padmé was somehow manipulated into loving Anakin, whether by Anakin subconsciously using the Force, or by Palpatine, or whatever. nope, my girl Padmé just has horrendous taste in men (case in point: my least favorite SW character, Clovis 🤢). she saw the red flags and decided red was her favorite color. stay delusional queen. out-of-universe: DISNEY LUCASFILM IS NOT GOING TO RETCON THE SEQUELS FFS. that is the dumbest shit I've ever heard sorry not sorry. Disney admitting they made something not good??? not possible. I can't believe people still honestly believe this. the sequels are not my faves either but with the amount of money made off them anyway, a retcon is not happening

💛: What is a popular ship you just can't get behind, and why?

do we consider Reylo popular??? it's very divisive so idk if it counts. but I hate it lol, it's the yucky toxic BookTok type of enemies to lovers. bro deadass tortured her. me personally, I wouldn't let that slide. they also feel like Force cousins or something in a weird roundabout way...? we've already had one incestuous kiss in SW, don't need another. also Rey is lesbian imo. if we're not counting Reylo as popular, I quite dislike Sabezra just because I see them very much as siblings. honestly, any ship where I see the characters as siblings feels icky to me -- Anisoka, Rexsoka, Obikin, etc (although siblings vibes is not my only complaint with those examples, unlike Sabezra).

🏳️‍🌈: Which character who is commonly headcanoned as queer doesn't seem queer to you?

quite honestly I think this is the hardest one for me because I headcanon so many characters as queer HAHA. my personal philosophy for fictional characters is bi until proven otherwise lol. maybe Ben Solo/Kylo? idk how much he's HCed as queer but I think he and Hux are shipped fairly often and I just don't see it lol. that's a straight man, I'm afraid. but he's really the only one I can think of off the top of my head, though I'm sure there are more

ᡣ𐭩 Sally’s caregiver is not a slenderman but a splendorman. Slenderman did find her soul lingering around his forest and was going to exercise her, but realized that would be a lot of work, so he told Splendor to deal with her.

ᡣ𐭩 Splendor fell in love with Sally as soon as they met. He wanted to take care of this sad, bloody child. Sally was very standoffish; she attempted to kill Splendor but realized she couldn't, so she just kind of let Splendor talk her ear off.

ᡣ𐭩 Sally is actually more mature than people give her credit for; she's like a tired mother because Splendor is pretty childish. Don't get me wrong, she has her moments as a child where she gets excited over a new toy or a pretty sparkling dress.

ᡣ𐭩 Sally’s parents died one day in a car crash going to her funeral, which is very ironic and sad, but she doesn't know that Splendor won't tell her and neither will Slender because he hates her.

ᡣ𐭩 Sometimes Sally won’t let any sort of man touch her physically because she’ll get flashbacks from her rape, and she won't let any male creeps or slender beings touch her until she feels comfortable again. ᡣ𐭩 Sally loves antique things because they remind her of a time when she was with her parents (I headcanon Sally was born in 1979). ᡣ𐭩Sally and Ben are not siblings or do not act like siblings. They hate each other. Ben thinks Sally is immature. Sally thinks Ben is not it all, so they just avoid each other. ᡣ𐭩 Jeff and Sally tolerate each other surprisingly they are both kinda menaces that know not to fuck with each other sometimes Jeff will play dolls with her and pretend to be a kid again or just pranks her because her ghost tantrums are funny ᡣ𐭩 Sally hates the feeling of blood dripping down her legs and head; it gets annoying, so she'll always be showering and pretty clean. ᡣ𐭩 Sally's abuse: Sometimes she feels random tingles in her arms or ribs; Splendor comforts her and puts her in an ice bath, even though she can't really feel it; she likes the thought of him being there. ᡣ𐭩 She and Lazari are frenemies, fighting for Splendor's attention all the time, even annoying Splendor, but they get along despite a slight age difference.

abe woodhull: this is me trying

look, i love to hate on abe, but i do think there’s some good in all his faults. he’s trying, throughout everything, to come into his own and do something for good, an admirable aim for someone so morally complex. it’s what makes him interesting to watch, and it’s what compels us to reluctantly root for him.

anna strong: champagne problems i’m imagining anna as the woman this song is being sung about, rather than the narrator. she’s often someone whose story gets told for her, but she has her own voice too, and she had her reasons for the hearts she broke.

ben tallmadge: mad woman i was initially tempted to give this song to anna, but let’s be real: ben is the angry person in the culper ring, not her. he’s constantly trying so hard to prove himself that it’s all too easy to turn that fire inward on himself.

caleb brewster: long story short caleb is the person who pretends he’s not living through a war until he can’t pretend anymore. but he’s also the person who picks himself back up after a fall and pushes on, and can laugh about it all in the end.

mary woodhull: tolerate it a bit of an obvious one, but still... ouch, i know. mary throws her whole identity into a failing relationship at the beginning, but ends up growing into her own anyway. like the song, she starts out pleading for a lost cause and ends up taking back her pride.

john graves simcoe: no body, no crime another obvious one haha. despite the pretty self-explanatory murder-y vibes of the song, i also think there’s a righteousness to simcoe’s character: he really believes he’s doing good, doing what he has to to defend his principles.

abigail: mirrorball abigail exists to please others, except she doesn’t have the option to do anything else, and therein lies the bitter unfairness of her situation. her kindness is often an obligation and not a choice, and god, i wish she could have saved some for herself.

edmund hewlett: coney island hewlett sustains himself on hope for so long that it’s a miracle he doesn’t snuff out when it comes crashing down. he’s left wondering where he went wrong, forced to find a new place in a world that never seemed built for him.

john andre: my tears ricochet of course the dead guy gets the song about a ghost lol. no, but really: andre is defined more by his memory than by himself, isn’t he? he tried so hard to make something out of himself, and he’s left with this legacy that belongs to the enemy, not to him. he can go anywhere he wants, just not home... akinbode: cowboy like me akinbode is always on the move, because he has no place to stay. but he wants more, wants to be at the helm of his own life for once: he named himself, chose his own lover, and has plans for after the war. this song feels like a love confession to abigail and also a goal of self-ownership.

cicero: seven we see cicero grow up along with the war, and lose his innocence along the way. he’s a boy still holding onto boyhood at first, and by the end he wants to join the cause he’s only just discovered.

peggy shippen: illicit affairs another obvious one, but it fits too well not to do it. peggy is ruined by her affair with andre, not just because she’s stuck in a loveless marriage with someone else, but because she knows now what consequences look like. she lost herself as she lost him, and worst of all, she did it willingly.

george washington: epiphany washington gets the 'indescribable horrors of war’ song because he is the war in a way, but there’s a current of hope there too. maybe horrors without hope are too great a burden for one man, or maybe america has never been without either.

robert townsend: the lakes the escapist, the denier, the one who never wanted any part in this: that’s robert townsend. he spends more time trying to get away from the war than he does finally accepting that he’s part of something bigger, but that understanding was there all along. otherwise, why fight it as hard as he did?

richard woodhull: hoax the magistrate continually defines himself by his disappointment: in his son, in his town, in everything. he makes judging his purpose as well as his profession, becoming so stuck in cynicism he just barely manages reconciliation before dying in the war that was happening all along, whether he liked it or not.

I had to do a lot of research for this (read: watched one video on YT)cuz the only reason why I can even name all 12 zodiacs is Fairy Tail XD I had zero knowledge about them before this day. I had fun writing this. Hope you like it ;)

Gray Yeon

Apparently Gray is canonically a Taurus. I kinda agree and kinda don't.

He's loyal and patient but he's far from being materialistic or lazy.

He strikes me more as a Virgo honestly.

Analytical, observing and reserved. He used to be kind of cold too before Stephan, Ben and Eugene happened.

He used to be very reserved and skeptical at the beginning of the series but is extremely trustworthy and gives good advice to those he warmed up to.

Goes to show how far he has come. I'm so proud of him.

Ben Park

So Ben is, according to canon, a Leo. Let that sink in. A Leo. Bruh hell nah. Just no.

Ben is anything but a Leo???

I think he'd be either a Cancer or a Pisces.

He's definitely the most selfless person right after Stephan.

He fits the description of a Pisces the most. He has the instincts of a wild animal and is adaptable when it comes to saving his friends. He's definitely sensitive, loyal, kinda clingy and very protective of his friends.

Now that I think about it, he could be an Aries too. I mean he is a great leader, enthusiastic, impulsive and very energetic.

Idk what do you think? Ben is Aries or Pisces?

Gerard Jin

Canonically, he's a Virgo which, I kinda agree with.

He is hardworking, kinda reserved and reliable but he's definitely not cold. He tried to be cold in middle school but that failed not-so-horribly in him saving the kid from the railway track.

I think he'd be fussy about his food cuz of his old man taste XD

He's also always been analytical and observing. An example of which would be him following Gray after gray beat up Colton, knowing that Colton wouldn't let it go so easily.

He's also really trustworthy after you warm up to him. Honestly no other sign fits him as well as Virgo does.

Alex Go

Alex is an Aries canonically and I definitely agree with this. Aries fits him perfectly.

He's enthusiastic and energetic. He is insecure because he thinks he's weak and hates it when Ben or someone else has to get hurt to protect him.

He has a desire to succeed and stand tall alongside Ben.

He can get moody and impulsive. He loves adventure. He even had his chunni era XD and can't stand boredom that's why he's messing around and skipping classes with Ben XD

Donald Na

Donald is a Capricorn according to canon, which fits him really well actually. Tho he could be qualified as an Aquarius too.

The only problem with him being a Capricorn is that he's not sympathetic or caring. Tho he would have a unique sense of humor I think. I hc that his sense of humor is either dark or dork and nothing in between XD and sarcasm. Definitely sarcasm.

Although Aquarius does fit him perfectly.

He is a progressive thinker and is intellectually driven cuz of his past.

He's rebellious, stubborn, emotionally detached, sarcastic and aloof.

Tho let's hope that he goes from an Aquarius to a Capricorn by the end of this manhwa *fingers crossed*

Wolf keum

This is a tricky one. It would be so much easier if we JUST KNEW HIS BACKSTORY AJHHEJDJEHRJJD.

Canon says he's an Aries. Which I don't know what to think of.

He is enthusiastic and energetic (only in relation to fighting). He is independent and extremely moody, impulsive and kinda selfish too.

He also has a low boredom tolerance but he definitely would not be a good leader. He's more of an uncontrollable wild card.

Does he have insecurities tho?? Everyone does right? So this mf should too. Let's just hope we get his backstory in this arc *tired exhale*

He definitely has a desire to succeed and win (again only in relation to fighting) so I guess Aries is a good fit for him. He could also be an Aquarius tho. Yeah definitely could be an Aquarius (less the progressive and intellectual thinking)

I never thought I'd be putting Wolf in the same category as Alex...

Jimmy Bae

According to canon, he's a Cancer, which I am totally in agreement of.

Before his backstory reveal, I would've thought of him as Leo but afterwards, oh boy, he has so much more to his character.

He's actually really sensitive, loyal and dependable. He's also very protective of his friends (Jack). My man readily threw his precious pride out the window for saving Jack.

He's also very moody tho and can be a little self absorbed too sometimes. Especially when it comes to training.

He can also be misunderstood by people really easily. Just like how half of the fandom had (including me) before his backstory.

He can be really difficult to understand but is definitely the kindest to a select few people (Jack).

Jake Ji

Jake is another tricky one. Canonically he's a Scorpio which is a 50-50.

He is independent, passionate and very emotional (Ace's death broke this boy XD).

He is unyielding in his principles and priorities but has to dance around Donald's pinky cuz he owes him one (which is so unfair).

He can be moody too but doesn't let it influence his "work" or his actions.

Tho I don't know about him being possessive, jealous or manipulative. He does strike me as a possessive guy but he's definitely not manipulative. I don't think he has that many brain cells or mental capacity to do that XD

He could also be a Pisces or Cancer because he's dedicated to keeping his friends and family safe. He could be an Aries too, honestly, I don't even know anymore XD tell me what you think would fit him best.

Character headcanons: Nadia Ben Yamin. (Bonus fact, I know someone also called Nadia)

Oops I forgot something-

Requested by this individual! So sorry for forgetting 🥲

Should have included photo of her so-

- she has almost perfect skin, but still uses skincare product to make sure she still looks good.

- her wardrobe is absolutely packed. While majority of her closet are pretty dresses and coats, she also has a lot pants and tops. So if you go to her asking for clothes, expect her to give you anything she thinks looks good on you.

- she’s really really good with fashion. She keeps up with majority of fashion trends somehow after making sure they actually look good.

- she’s okay around kids. She’ll keep her distance at first, but if she’s alone with a kid she’s definitely going to take care of them. She hates to admits it, but she really likes kids but she can’t imagine herself having kids.

- she has a lot of makeup. And I mean a LOT. It’s almost remarkable how much makeup she has. She keeps some supplies in a little bag she brings with her to work. So if she needs to fix up something or someone needs help, she’s helping with makeup.

- she’s omnisexual. Definition is copypasted from dictionary: involving or characterized by diverse forms of sexuality; attracted to more than one gender -

- she likes tea.

- She also likes alcohol. She enjoys wine the most…But if no wine or anything she particularly favours is available, she’ll take anything.

- her sleep schedule is wild. Sometimes she gets 11 hours of sleep. Sometimes 1 hour. Sometimes 3, and sometimes 5. One time she slept for 30 minutes before getting up and going to work.

- she gives relationship advice sometimes; not always appreciated relationship advice. She tried giving Émile relationship once though, and Gauthier Delacroix (Cheif of police in the season) spent three hours comforting a really confused and upset Émile. She was then banned from giving relationship advice to anyone. She still does but yeah-

- Nadia is really good at painting- like really really good. She made a portrait of someone once and they liked it so much they paid her for it even though she made it as a gift. For that she considered getting the second job of being a painter, but changed her mind as she enjoyed being a coroner the most.

- she hugs her coworkers. And her hugs are tight.

- nadia is really warm- it’s like…If she were to touch you in summer you would scream from how hot her hands are. If she hugs you you would start screaming too. That’s how uncomfortably warm she is.

- she wears high heels or boots to be taller. She’s like 165cm/5’5 which is already kinda tall but she wants to be TALLER.

- she has super super good spice tolerance. Like really really good spice tolerance. She got dared to eat hot sauce once for €50 and she won that €50 in one minute.

- she can sew and do embroidery. She has really steady hands, and she can do a lot of intricate work. One of which is embroidery.

- when she gets bored she picks up a lot of random activities to do. Wood carving…embroidery…making miniature things- she somehow finds a lot of time to do all this and enjoys them all a lot.

- she’s really flexible.

- she likes sweet food over salty food.

- she has a lot of jewellery. A lot of jewellery. Earrings, bracelets, necklaces, anklets, rings, every kind of jewellery you can imagine.

- she really likes flowers. But her favourite is definitely roses. Any colour can do, but red is absolute best.

- she has a tattoo

- she dyed her hair once and considered doing it again, though it kinda did it’s damage and she decided to keep it natural. But she considered getting the ends of her hair dyed some random colour

- she can dance and sing. She’s really good at both dancing and singing. She’s not professional level, but she can do them well. She has took classes before, and she picks up quickly.

- Nadia is a fast learner. Give her a tutorial whether it’s written, drawn, or video. Give her some time and she can pick up whatever you want her to learn. If there is an instructor expect her to learn even faster.

- she can get really competitive.

Whenever I reply to your replies about what I’ve said, I feel like we’re that spider-man meme just pointing at each other and jumping up and down lmaooo

When Anthony stops Ben from pursuing clover, how much of that do you think was less so an objective gesture of goodwill and more so a reflection of his (and a lot of people in the ton’s) view of love, especially as he’s seen in his own life.

What I mean about this beyond the fact that everyone in the ton, despite being enamored with the idea of love, they don’t try that hard to pursue it (look at how rare love matches are) but also how Anthony protects himself (at this point in the story) by denying himself the idea of love (namely with lottie).

His idea is that he’s protecting her, but he’s also protecting himself in a lot of ways too. Anthony thinks that he’s protecting everyone by not falling in love, and he’s encouraging Ben to do the same, not because he wants to keep Ben from pursuing love, but because he wants to protect him from the pain it might cause.

It’s the sort of catch 22 that every person who loves another must struggle with (especially parents and parent types): we want good things to happen to those we love without any of the risk. I suppose we want this for ourselves too, now that I think about it.

It’s the simple failing to realize that not only is the good thing attainable because of those risks, but that that’s also why it’s so meaningful. It’s difficult to balance and know what the right risk/reward is, so most people error on the side of caution. Ben is very much the type to play a high risk/high rewards game, which pays off, but really shows a lot about the stakes that everyone else balked, despite their admiration of the reward (love in this case).

Idk it’s just super interesting to think about imho

Also re: our other convo: I think that both allergies and intolerances can start at any time! Our bodies are weird like that lol

Also I still hate mushrooms lolololol. I can tolerate cabbage if something is masking the taste, but I don’t prefer it. It’s a texture thing for me when it comes to the other things though. I’m really weirdly specific about the textures of things I’ll eat, so mushrooms are a no-no in my book.

Also yes soap boxes!! I’m the exact same way! Any soap boxes coming to mind right now?

I think it was a mixture of both! Like, I definitely think Anthony's own perspective of love played some part in it, especially now that we know he has been in love with Lottie that whole time❤️ But like, even before that, protecting and putting his family first is a second nature to Anthony at this point❤️

And there was also the fact that Clover is incredibly different than Benedict😁 And Anthony heard all kinds of things about her, because the ton was buzzing with gossip when she was first introduced😁 She's more of a riddle, no one knows all that much about her and she has zero interest in letting them know anything about her, and Anthony does NOT like riddles, nor does the ton😏

They are all used to the debutantes being a certain way, and Clover had already started breaking it on her first outing, refusing to smile at anyone😂

the fact that this is just an everyday thing..

I’m still kind of stunned TERFs are not only allowed to be acknowledged to be a thing now, but that it’s okay to drag them and even acknowledge their academics and authors by name and their works, without being shouted down, the subject changed and filibustered, or automatically tossed into the same trash bin with Ben Shapiro and Jordon Peterson for doing it.

Yep, more of the same thoughts. You can skip. Just reflecting and pondering my naval and also stuff that caused me a lot of grief as a child.

Back in my day, man-hating TERFs were invisible. You weren’t even allowed to acknowledge they existed, or else if you tried to communicate what you heard, you’d be smiled at and, “corrected,” assumed that you just filled in the blanks about feminism in a very unflattering way from your very fragile male egoed sheltered male-supremacist upbringing, awwwww.

They’d say, there are no real feminists that talk that way, while ignoring any feminist literature that spoke of male sexed or gendered people like we were the living dead out to prey on them, and that we caricatured feminists ourselves into horrible harpies, or we were listening to propaganda from religious traditionalists and white supremacists to get our opinions. In which case they’d visualize you as the effigy of an NPC woman-hating Nazi and just talk to you like one.

Yes this sure sounds familiar for other things, but god damn. TERFs were and still kind of are synonymous with feminism, everyday and radical kinds. We’re encouraged to make fun of TERFs by intersectionals, but only on the differences between an intersectional and a TERF. As if the only thing wrong about TERFs and their hatred of men is that their definition of man excludes transmen from men and calls them confused women.

But it blows my mind, every day. Not just “screw you, hippie” normies and obviously the right wing, but now even far-leftists/radical leftists are talking about radfems like they’re just female Nazis and conservatives if their feminism isn’t intersectional. Where before it was these TERFs that were in this amorphous cultural and institutional seat of power, writing the academic papers and having them buffered and repeated by college kids and made real by this cultural dissemination. And now they’ve been instructed to, “DIG THE FUCKING HOLE” that intersectionals want to culturally bury them in.

I both love and hate this. I love it because you can’t really know the pain of lonliness of what it was like to be male in an era where all the girls were defining and understanding themselves as women being told the men around them were all rapists and domestic abusers and brutal militaristic monsters, and encouraged to think in terms of sex-as-class, thus any boy around them was by default like the worst imaginary boogyman ou can imagine. How girls defined their relationships with boys by how much they proactively spoke up and performed about how horrible other boys were for, “not knowing about all this horrible history!” and communicating that they were conscientous and thus checking themselves and other men and thus, could be perceived as understanding and not a threat.

Radical Feminism made girls suspicious of and distrust males on the basis of, “the female sex is oppressed and boys are horrible,” and set the cultural standard of if boys were even worth respecting or associating with to how much they “admitted” to being terrible and trying to be better than the status quo they saw of American society at the time; male chauvinist, white supremacist, misogynistic. They made young girls terrified of men, suspicious of male family members but tenuously tolerant, and absolutely untrusting of any strange man that wasn’t coding their speech or actions or behaviors around whatever gripe or trope or catchphrase was memetically being passed around anybody that had family in sociology courses in college at the time they were lording their education on.

Being a boy is already alienating enough with the absence of trust unless vetted, the ease at which you can lose it, the slow rate of gaining it, the fact that by comparison girls get benefit of the doubt in the court of public opinion (innocent until proven guilty is in fact INCREDIBLY radical for a court system, else more men would hang and fry.) But what the radfems were instilling in girls how to relate to boys, encouraging them to be terrified of us, at the same time claiming they were immune to accusations of sexism because sexism was only sexism when it was the patriarchy imposing oppression down on “the oppressed sex,” IE, girls.

They were simultaneously prejudiced and bigoted in their literature towards men, their supposedly equality seeking pro-woman or anti-man legislation designed to help women by either hobbling men or privileging women, and professing to be the ultimate arbiters of fairness and equality. So you could not contradict them without merely objecting proving you hated equality and were scared of women being your equal, and then they’d simply speak in your direction while telling off whatever chimera they saw of you composed of every right wing radio talkshow host, or conservative cultural author or crack jokes at you about preachers, like they applied to your position just because you disagreed with theirs (so therefore you MUST have just been supporting THE ENEMY, right?)

It’s just surreal. The stranglehold they had on the conscience of young women and their imaginations as they developed and sorted this shit out. It felt absolutely helpless. Other girls wouldn’t contradict the other girls that were more radical on the grounds of secular progressivism very often.. So you ran into the problem that the most likely girl to break with the girls-club and verbally say to stop shit talking boys within eavesdropping distance were the sort of girls that had a religious or personal cultural reason to do so. These were the type that would object to radfems on the premise that, “patriarchal culture is GOOD, ackshully. >:3.” And uh.. well... as a boy you at least appreciated they weren’t following the herd of arbitrary boy hating on the basis of some weird space utopia, but cringed viscerally that they were just swinging in the opposite direction. Those ones were immediately deleted from the secular progressive girls-club social and romantic bubble to go off and join hands with the religious girl romantic bubble of imagination and culture.

Then you had the girls that just wanted to jump rope that would sort of nod along and agree and giggle with the radical horseshit the soapbox standing girls would try to put into their vernaculars. (80s and 90s equivalents of, ‘mansplaining,’ ‘everything is phallic for men because they’re afraid of having a small penis’, ‘all rapists are men and most men are rapists.’)

Those ones would go along with and provide passive support any time a mouthy soapbox standing best friend decided to use peer pressure to make an example of a boy, making “the teachable moment” more real. But, they also wouldn’t follow the soapbox standing baby TERFs deeper down the rabbithole and kind of slip away like eels when asked. Still,

The contrast between boys, whom weren’t allowed to be neutral or impartial and the soapbox stander babby radfems WOULD call out, put on the spot, and then berate them as examples of everyday misogynists based on their answers of loaded questions just to perform to their girlfriends, and the fact girls that didn’t want to participate weren’t turned on and eaten alive quite so readily, was something you just sort of noticed as a male kid in the 80s.

It was an absolutely terrible time, and that whole setup had to’ve been orchastrated by people with a knowledge of sexual psychology and parasocial relationships, emotional histrionics and culture.

The same people that engineered radical feminism for them, also designed intersectional feminism as its 2.0 upgrade. Just designed it to eat its predecessor and then blame it on TERFs for being wrong. But, it’s the same culture. It’s the same principles in the same high ivory tower places. They’ve just anointed different people in the hierarchy to take on the generational positions as celebrity scholars writing papers on those basis.

And then once comedians started poking fun at and making absurdism towards the more radical parts of feminism, and your average person had more access to reading the absurdity of some of the authors and their credibility became shot, and even among kids, the credibility became mockable, radical feminism just sort of hit a cultural resistance point somewhere in the 90s.. I’d say around 91-93. I couldn’t say exactly when, but collectively it just started meeting resistance from even people that previously sympathized with it.

And the water carriers, the soapbox standers, quieted. Maybe they just worked it out of their system, maybe they feared overstaying their welcome, maybe they were told off and were afraid of being alienated.. But they went invisible again, and by 1993 it was fair game to make fun of feminists. Even among progressives.

They never went away completely. I can still remember some girls in my class talking gleefully about how, “men were going to be obsolete soon. They managed to make an egg start dividing in a lab with electric shock; we won’t even need boys to reproduce, soon.” Telling me snidely about how eventually the human species would ‘evolve’ beyond the need for men.

And it showed me another funny contrast between men and women; there are very few men that imagine utopia or paradise without women by their side. But there were a disturbing number of girls that, at least at the time, agreed men were superfluous and unimportant and something to be gotten rid of when they were no longer necessary. That men as a sex should be obsolete.

As a kid, that really hurt. Especially because these same girls tried to say they were for equality and were against discrimination based on sex. You only got the asterisked explanations of what that meant (”Equality for WOMEN, boys are already equal! Discrimination against WOMEN, men aren’t discriminated against by women because we live in a patriarchy and women have no power over it!”) if you pointed out the contradictions and tried to make their special operating logic fit their rhetoric. You had to verbally intervene and make a point to pull the curtain off the blackboxes and underline the algorithms so they couldn’t hide in the margins.

Things are so much better now. Just the fact I can complete these long, complicated thoughts and deposit them somewhere to be read and observed somewhere other than just my own conscience and arguing with made up figures in my head, without disrupting public space, without trying to find opportunities to argue these topics with people at watercoolers or other places people congregate at in real life and hope the discussions had pass on to repeat..

The discourse is just so much more efficient, complete, easier and diverse with media like tumblr and Minds and what have you. When TERFs could deplatform you by calling you a Nazi and use their own offendedness to win benefit of the doubt and support for women against the horrible horrible misogynist, and give simps an opportunity to support them unconditionally, you could not get a productive word in edgewise.

Now? Even despite being a cis, heterosexual white dude, people all over the world, of all orientations and all backgrounds, can read me relating my experiences of dealing with the worst examples of radical feminism terrorizing developmental relationships between American children in the 80s and 90s, and nod in agreement that they’ve also experienced something like this in the pattern. Even if it’s not quite the same. They can at least better understand and validate.

Just the fact that the emotionally driven, benefit-of-the-doubt dependent era by necessity is over, is so very comforting. I can curse radfems and not automatically just be trashbinned as someone that thinks women shouldn’t vote or have careers or contribute to our society, “beyond their designation.”

Mouthy radfems screaming about how scientific, evidence based and rational they are, constantly needling, “PROVE IT! PROVE I’M WRONG! SHOW ME COUNTER-STATISTICS THAT AREN’T BY REPUBLICAN THINKTANKS!” in order to ‘legitimately’ disagree with them. And not having the resource of the internet, and access to other people that researched the topic and disseminated their debunk of whatever cooked book their got their statistic from. Not even really a library to pull from to argue with the, “professional scientists” in current year. Getting portrayed as an irrational brute that couldn’t support their dissent as anything more than denial to reinforce their narrative to other girls that, “this is just how the patriarchy works. :^)”- All of that can be countered now. Their sources are exposed, counter-arguments by similar scholars and academics are within arms reach, so you aren’t fighting a culture war by someone that only has to quote from a book and somehow do your own research to debunk it by hand.

Christ, the sheer number and the intensity of girls doing this that were my age drove me nuts, because every time it was just to teach other girls to think the worst of people like me on the basis of our sex. It felt helpless. The supposedly apolitical, nonreligious, scientific community telling such hateful garbage about men that you couldn’t touch because you were a kid, not a trained professor with a degree...

You weren’t even allowed to suggest they may have some sort of conflict of interest or conspiratorial ideology outside “equality and fairness for women.” Just that it was SCIENCE!

Bad as things seem today, I promise you they were literal millions of times worse for the way young boys see themselves in the era where you could be shown ideologically slanted cop dramas about woman-hating serial killer men and all domestic abusers on television being men, with no internet and no outlet to express annoyance at this. Things have only gotten better. The only reason they seemed to get worse is because they got more desperate for power and lost so much of it.

Intersectionalism is, honestly, the last gasp of this culture. It tries to haphazardly marry racial Marxism with sexual and gendered Marxism to be an all minority focused perspective of equality. But, it’s too late. In the process, they’ve destroyed the white woman feminism fantasy and hence, their most powerful demographic foothold. They’ve made it okay to alienate white women and deposition them from defacto heads of the movement, to groupie status. They can still contribute, but not as defacto community leaders on behalf of oppressed minorities. And in so doing, they’ve killed a lot of what motivated a lot of white feminists to be so active and involved.

What comes after Intersectionalism will just be the abstract and bizarre, openly transhumanist shell with no way to relate to regular people anymore. They may even just go back to just openly screaming about anti-capitalism in the absence of trying to “free” people by their race, sex, orientation or gender. Not because they don’t want to divide and conquer, but arguing that would be a nonstarter.

But childhood experiences like mine don’t leave bones for anthropologists to dig up, later. Only experiences, thoughts, feelings, and the relationships based on those ideas that drove them. Motivations. Character. These are ephemeral.

I guess that’s why I try to write them down. Because without them, they’d be deliberately memory holed- perhaps, even denied such things existed. And I know well the value of being able to throw things into the void just to blindside the next generation as if something doesn’t exist or it’s only them experiencing it, and preventing them from speaking to one another about it without leading them down a specific conclusion. Because I experienced the flawed, undeveloped version of that, saw through it, and came out the other end wisened and furious about it. And I worry this might be lost. Not knowing if it was just me, or if it was a phenomenon of the person imposing it on me, or if it was part of a conspiracy to behave this way. And it turned out, it was.

It’s 2022, and how I felt in the late 80s/early 90s is 100% vindicated.

12) Any books that disappointed you? 16) What is the most over-hyped book you read this year?

My answer for these are the same books actually because these two are books I went in being really excited for and hearing them be hyped by some people in my book club and coming away incredibly disappointed.

I'm also going to explain myself, though I'm not taking criticism on my opinions at this time <3

In order that I read them:

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow: I will fully admit I do think that the audiobook actively detracted from my enjoyment of this book because the narrator wasn't great. And when the narrator switched to the passage for Mark, it got so much more tolerable. But for a story that has to do with narrative design and telling stories, I was quite literally and simply told a story. It wasn't one that I could experience or sink into in any way, and both of the main characters were miserable people. Not the fun kind of awful/miserable people (I listened to this right after She Who Became the Sun, which are fun awful/miserable people). I ended up upping the speed of this from my normal 1.75x speed to like, over 2x just to get it over with as quickly as possible. I also have a HUGE problem with books that are """contemporary""" and make pop culture references. I'm sorry I'm a gamer please don't baby-gamer explain Oregon Trail to me? Metal Gear? Or citing Kotaku?? it was so weird, but mostly i was super disappointed by how unenthusiastic the narrator was and how unengaging the story was for a book that was about the beauty and art of telling stories.

Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries: Not the worst book about people interacting with Faeries that I've ever read, and to be clear it's not a bad book, it was just so mid. Partly, I hate this method of narration where it's framed as journal entries because in this sort of narrative, it eliminates any sort of concern I have for the fate of the characters. "Ah well she makes it out okay because she could write a journal entry about it with her normal level headed aloofness", but also, she's described as curmudgeonly, and that's just absolutely not true. But it could also be that she was just more dull to me than anything else. (as a side note I did recently listen to An Enchantment of Ravens which I went into with NO expectations and I was infinitely more charmed by it and especially this portrayal of fae vs how you see them in Emily Wilde.)

And for a book I wasn't like, over-hyped on or anything but I was incredibly disappointed by: Last Shot. I generally have issues with Star Wars' inability to address/interact with characters with disabilities and especially when they come in the form of androids or cyborgs. This book made me see red and want to do a violence. It was borderline ableist and immediately fell victim to the same thing every Star Wars media does: "This character is not wholly human and therefore is evil". Please engage with better media regarding humanity and androids/cyborgs, SW fans <3 Also, while I enjoyed Older's prose/narration in his short stories for FACPOV, it absolutely does not work for a novel and it wasn't good. I simply didn't enjoy the narration. And also? That kitchen droid should have just killed Ben, would have solved so many problems.

A/N: Here’s Kyoya 4 more to go!

Word Count: 1753

A: Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

Kyoya shows affection very subtly. Honestly you might feel like you’re stuck in a Victorian novel especially at the beginning of your relationship. He’ll brush his hand along the back of yours and then smile at you like oh that was intentional, ok. He’s really trying his best, but he’s not very obvious with his affection, all of his love tends to be conveyed through words and actions of caring.

B: Best Friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

As a best friend, Kyoya is lowkey a gossip. He’s not going to tell everyone what information he has but if you come up to him complaining about how so and so was bothering you, he’s already got a journal full of secrets and he’s ready to ruin someone’s career.

C: Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

Kyoya likes to cuddle but he prefers to be the big spoon, this is solely because he doesn’t want to be woken up early just because you had to go to the bathroom or something. He only cuddles during night time and if you do wake up before him, he’s pretty easily fooled if you just replace your body with a pillow.

D: Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

He definitely wants to settle own, not just because of his family and him feeling like he’s obligated to settle down, but also just because he’s a traditional person in the sense that he wants to marry the person he fell in love with. As for domestic skills, Kyoya can’t cook or clean for SHIT. The only skill he’s got is probably managing finances and things along those lines but if you asked him to cook, he’d somehow find a way to burn water, just a bad time for everyone involved.

E: Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

If Kyoya doesn’t break up with you via text message (or letter if he’s feeling fancy), he honestly probably just tells you upfront that he doesn’t view your relationship as something he has a vested interest in continuing. Ouch.

F: Fiance(e) (How would they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

Commitment for Kyoya has always ben somewhat of an obligation. He feels like he has to propose to you if you’re relationship is becoming serious. He’ll discuss it with you of course, but the man is very committed to those he loves and what better way to show that than marriage?

G: Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

Not very physically gentle, again, he’s just not very physically affectionate. When he does initiate physical affection with you it’s always with a measure of unsureness and caution. Emotionally, he’s a bit more gentle. Kyoya looks for the type of person who can keep up with him especially intellectually, with him it’s like no words are needed, you both just get it.

H: Hugs( Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

Kyoya’s hugs kinda suck. He doesn’t give them often, let alone initiate them, and if you hug him, he’ll just stand there kinda surprised and at a loss for what to do. At least he’s nice to hug, he’s got this cologne that smells like a warm fireplace during a winter storm that smells so comforting.

I: I love you (How fast do they say the L-word)

You definitely say ‘I love you’ before Kyoya. He expresses his love through tender gazes and lovesick smiles so he definitely assumes you get the message. However, if you express to Kyoya that you’d like to hear him say that he loves you, he’ll oblige.

J: Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous)

Kyoya doesn’t really get jealous, it’s not a matter of arrogance, more like, he knows that you’re with him and he’s with you. He doesn’t act out either on the off chance that he does get jealous because he was raised to bottle things up. In fact, the most Kyoya’s ever been jealous was in the beginning of your relationship/before you were dating where he was sure someone was gonna come by and sweep you away.

K: Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

The way Kyoya kisses is by cradling your face and just kinda going for it. He prefers to kiss you on the lips but he doesn’t mind placing them elsewhere if things get more intimate.

L: Little ones (How are they around children)

Kyoya kind of sucks around children. He’s not rude to them or anything of that sort but he just doesn’t find himself having anything in common with them and doesn’t really care for the topics they find interesting.

M: Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

Mornings with Kyoya depend on if he’s off or not. If he has work or an early morning obligation of some sort, you’ll probably have to wake him up. He sets alarms but he’ll just swat at his alarm and then go back to bed, can’t exactly do that with your s/o now can you? However, if he has the day off or doesn’t have to wake up early, he won’t let you leave the bed until he’s ready to wake up. He’s surprisingly hard to move when he’s dead asleep like that.

N: Night (How are nights spent with them?)

Nights with Kyoya, he tends to stay up late and then just pass out on the nearest surface. If you happen to be awake long enough or pass him on the way to the kitchen/bathroom/etc., please move him into your bed. He will complain about his back problems if you don’t, if you can’t move him (which fair tbh he does deadweight) please give him a blanket and pillow, when he wakes up, it means the world to him.

O: Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

Kyoya reveals things very gradually to you over time, he’s a very layered person and while certain aspects of his true personality may bubble up, you’re gonna have to put the full picture together on your own. Unless you’re like Tamaki and can just see through all his bs.

P: Patience (How easily angered are they?)

Kyoya is actually pretty easy to anger. This is because of his no nonsense attitude as well as his general grumpiness with the world. Although, no anger can top Kyoya’s anger from being woken up early.

Q: Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

Kyoya remembers every detail you’re willing to share with him. He writes most of it in his notebook but somethings he likes to keep to himself and surprise you with later on.

R: Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

His favorite moment in your relationship was when you suggested your next date be at a flower viewing. Kyoya initially thought it might just be like a boring “commoner” thing to do but as the date went on, he ended up really enjoying himself. The sight of you surrounded by flowers was also a plus

S: Security (How protective are they? How would they like to be protected?)

Kyoya’s family has essentially a private police force, in addition he also has personal guards, best believe, you are protected. Don’t even worry about trying to protect him either, he has people on payroll for that

T: Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

Kyoya puts a lot of effort into dates, anniversaries, and gifts. The man always knows when there’s a special occasion coming up and has already planned for every step of the day. As for dates in general, he likes to spoil you. He has absolutely no problem with flying you to somewhere like Okinawa for example, just because

U: Ugly (What are some bad habits of theirs? (I’m gonna add arguments here because they aren’t on the prompt list I found))

A bad habit Kyoya has is that he tends to try and test people and their limits with no prompting. He’s very secretive in general so that plus his sudden decisions to test people can lead to some bad arguments. The worst argument you’ve gotten into to date is when he suddenly started flirting back with his guests during the regular day and you got jealous and snapped.

V: Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

Kyoya is concerned with his looks in the sense that he has a reputation to uphold. He’s not arrogant by any means but he does take pride in looking good. Plus Tamaki recommended a skin care routine to him once and now he’s hooked

W: Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

He views you as his better, he doesn’t feel incomplete without you but he can feel himself turning back into his sort of middle school self pre-Tamaki when you aren’t around.

X: (E)xes (Any previous relationship experience. How does that factor into your current relationship?)

He has no previous relationship experience. He has experience flirting of course and he’s had crushes before but he’s new to this, please be gentle.

Y: Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner)

Kyoya doesn’t like people with forceful personalities. He tolerates it for the sake of being polite and his image if nothing else but this man cannot stand when people are pushy and always have to get their way. He also hates boring people.

Z: Zzz (What is a sleep habit of theirs?)

Canonically Kyoya is a heavy sleeper, this can be kind of an issue at times. He’s a hard worker who stays up late on things he’s passionate about which means he might fall asleep on whatever’s closest. There’s been more than one occasion where you’ve walked over to him sound asleep on his laptop with a document covered in keysmash from where he slumped on the computer.

✨a long awaited michael hate list✨

last year during the first lockdown i decided to rewatch queer as folk again after a few years break from the show. michael has always been one of my least favourite characters and i just needed to rant about how annoying he is, so i have compiled a list of his worst moments. you’re welcome. i wrote all these in my notes app while watching and you will get them without any editing whatsoever. in chronological order:

s01e03 when justin turns up at woodys to find brian and michael yells at brian because he doesn’t want to babysit. while justin is talking to debbie!!! justin is just a young gay teen trying to fit in and michael is go angy? fuck off you piece of shit

s01e04 “this is about brian’s one night stand!” / “not just one” / “don’t bet on it”...... my dude.... my good dude michael..... i am pretty sure justin knows more about his own sex life than you do

s01e04 “unfortunately not this one” referring to justin when they were talking about the high suicide rates with gay teens.... michael was so jealous of a guy who had sex with brian that he was annoyed that he wasn’t feeling suicidal? cant relate

s01e10 when justin moved in at debbie’s place, getting michael’s old bedroom. why was he so annoyed? you’re a grown man, just turned 30 and that bedroom still has all your childhood things in it? grow the fuck up you childish man baby!!!!!

s01e17? when david and michael held the fundraiser for that senator and michael purposely didn’t invite any of his friends/family because he found them “embarrassing”, then porceeded to yell at his mum when they showed up anyway. the entire storyline of him feeling like he was sooo much better than all of them because he had been to france and got expensive stuff from david? horrible horrible man

s02e06 saying the only reason brian spends time with justin is because he feels guilty that justin was attacked. it’s almost like he doesn’t know his best friend? what a surprise!!!

s02e12? getting angry that brian and ben fucked at the white party long before michael even knew ben? brian had sex with everybody how did michael expect to find someone who hadnt fucked brian already? and why are you angry over your partner’s sexual history from before you even knew them?

s03e01 getting angry at justin for breaking up with brian (which is what he wanted to happen since fucking day 1) and then telling him that he isn’t part of the friendgroup anymore, as if they only tolerated him as long as he was with brian. fuck youuuuuu!!!!! honestly just the ENTIRE episode? upset that justin came to mel and lindsay’s party and that he brought ethan? it’s not your party! you don’t decide who is invited! SAYING BRIAN SHOULD HAVE LEFT JUSTIN DYING ON THE GROUND? literally just scum of the earth!! even if it was just because he was upset on brian’s behalf that should have never even crossed his mind!!!!

s03e04, he knew what kind of father brian was to gus so why was he so angry at the way melanie and lindsay wanted him to be a father to their next child? he would be the sperm donor and the child’s dad but he wouldn’t be part of the kid’s life more than brian was in gus’ life? how is that so hard to get? it’s not YOUR child? get your own if you want to be an actual dad????

s03e07? getting so pissed that ben didn’t want to include him in his HIV-positive life that he “threatened” to infect himself? show some support for your boyfriend instead maybe? what kind of weird move is it to almost stab yourself with a used needle? i totally get what he was trying to do but it’s a fucked up way of going about it

s03e08, while i dont completely agree with ben taking in hunter from the start and letting him spend the night (which probably has more to do with me being a woman who would have trouble defending herself in case anything should happen), the way michael acted as if hunter didn’t deserve any compassion was.. really bad? he even rolled his eyes when ben gave hunter money and a contact number for them that he could keep. hunter was a CHILD on the street, selling his body for money!!! how are you not more concerned!!!

bouncing off of that s03e10 why is michael getting angry that ben wants to care for this child!! he was in the fucking hospital and i get that now it’s a money problem but you are not listening to your partner? you are talking over him and not trying to come up with another solution to help care for this child!!!! i am FURIOUS

s04e08 convincing justin that they shouldnt mention to brian that they were aware that he had cancer and had the sugery, but then breaking down the first chance he gets and crying to brian about it? first of, this is NOT about you michael so sit your ass down!! and second of, i get that he was scared of losing brian but at least give justin a heads up that he told brian?? that’s the absolute least he could have done

THE ENTIRE FIFTH SEASON!!!! michael needed to SHUT UP about melanie and lindsay’s relationship problems in relation to jr because guess what? you’re not the primary parent, this doesn’t concern you! you were the sperm donor who was lucky enough to still be called the dad and be part of jr’s life!!!! shut up about how the baby lives in a broken home and how you want the baby? she’s not yours!!!!!! what is your PROBLEM!!! i will fist fight you

both him and debbie kept saying “whatever goes on between you [mel and linds] it doesn’t matter, the baby comes first”. don’t you think parents living seperately are better than parents living together but fighing all the time? the entire thing makes me so ANGRY

i MEAN the way michael thinks he is entitled to all information about lindsay and melanie’s relationship just because he was the sperm donor to their baby? insanity

“why won’t you let me have her?” GOD SHUT THE FUCK UP MICHAEL

s05e04 i get that michael might have been embarassed at the “housewarming” gift that brian got them and also at the word choices that brian makes but come on? monty and whoever started out by insulting not only the way brian chooses to live his own life but also his business? it’s a civil conversation and yeah brian could have used less harsh words but brian’s lifestyle isn’t new to other people? not even people outside of his small social group? let him live his own life and also let him defend his choices

e05e07 like i get it okay? brian came in late at night and shouted and blamed michael for his and justin’s breakup so of course michael would be annoyed but the way he said “he [justin] left because of YOU. who wouldn’t?” was completely uncalled for? it just really fucking bugs me? this is your best friend who is CLEARLY going through a bad breakup so maybe choose your words more carefully? MAYBE have some compassion just maybe?

when hunter left in season 5 and michael said “who else would have taken him in? made him family?” WHY WOULD YOU EVER SAY THAT ABOUT YOUR CHILD!!! WHY ARE YOU SUCH A PIECE OF SHIT michael really thinks he is the absolute shit and deserves the world for doing the smallest thing?

going through the show again really just fleshed out how fucking bad of a person he could be from time to time wow whats YOUR worst michael moment????
