Akira Toriyama passed away.

I wonder if anyone can really understand just how influential he was? Dragon Ball shaped so much of the modern anime and manga landscape, but that's not all he did.

Without Toriyama, there was no Dragon Quest. Dragon Quest pioneered the modern RPG, and Dragon Quest V introduced the idea of taming monster buddies. Without Toriyama, there is no Pokemon.

Without Toriyama, there is no Toei Animation. Without Toei Animation, there's no Precure. The modern magical girl genre is fundamentally different, and much, much smaller.

Without Toriyama, there's no Dragon Ball. With no Dragon Ball, there's no Sonic. Without Sonic, how long could Sega have lasted?

I don't normally make posts like this, but I don't have a personal tumblr, only this one, so I'm just putting my thoughts down here for a bit.

Akira Toriyama shaped everything. The use of 'Super Saiyan' has entered the common vernacular as shorthand for that kind of power-up. But "power levels"- Whenever we joke about hiding our power level to interact with normal people, that's a Dragon Ball reference. The Vegeta, for that kind of rival.

He was unparalleled in his character design skills. No character he drew could ever be mistaken for another. Every character had supremely unique silhouettes, so you could identify them all at a glance. The one time he broke this rule, it was for Androids 17 and 18, and he did that on purpose, to inform you about the characters. Cell's first form, even if he hated drawing it, is one of the most iconic monster designs I've ever seen.

It's weird to say, but I didn't even think of him as mortal. I thought, somehow, I'd get old and die, and Toriyama would still be there, shaking up every genre he put his hand to.

Even if you're too young, even if Dragon Ball Z was already over before you started watching things, it's impossible to escape his influence. He is everywhere. Toriyama's influence can only be compared to the likes of Osamu Tezuka. He single-handedly shaped the entire media landscape today, even if you don't know it.

Maybe I'll replay Chrono Trigger.

What Was Will be Again

Summary: Satan x gn!reader Satan finds that texting the attendant is an easy way to communicate without his wrath interfering. But it isn't long before he craves more.

A/N: this is heavily inspired by how, in nightbringer, Satan seems to hate us and want nothing to do with us, but he's also texting to rank his favorite cat things. So I said, both can go hand in hand 😂

Everything was too much. This existence was too noisy, too aggressive, too uncaring. And yet…when you told him to "STAY!", there was a brief moment he felt peace.

Still everytime he tried to talk to you, the only words out of his mouth were in anger. The first few times you were startled, but at length you'd seemed to accept it. 

It's not his fault! He wants to shout how much he cares, how much he wants to make you happy! But he's always so angry! He can't control it, and it's…frightening. Frightening that he could destroy the only peace he's found in his entire existence.

One day, though, he's looking through the royal library, and there's a book that reminds him of you. Without thinking, he texts you using the number Lucifer gave him, and sends you all manner of book recommendations.

It takes half a second for him to realize what he's done, but you are enthusiastic in your response.

I'll be sure to let you know what I think!

He turned off his phone, and clutched it to his chest, a grin overtaking his normally sour features.

He was scared though, that your relationship would change. That you'd challenge this out in the open, or worse, in front of Lucifer. But you didn't say anything. You treated him as you always did. He couldn't be more grateful.

It was just so much easier to talk to you over text. It was safer! He couldn't scare you off like that…

"Ooh who are you smiling at?" Asmo asked, giggling and trying to read Satan's texts over his shoulder.

"What are you blabbering about?"he snapped, shutting down his phone.

"People only smile at their phones like that when it's someone special. Now tell me who it is!" Asmo whined, as he draped himself over Satan's lap.

Satan stood up and let Asmo fall, but still. This was the first moment he thought that, maybe, just maybe, talking to you in person wouldn't be so bad.

Then you sent him another picture of a cat, and his brain got thoroughly distracted. But over the course of the next couple days, he thought and thought  about it, before deciding to try and talk to you.

"You're chewing too loudly," he snapped. That's not what he wanted to say to you, he just heard the noise and that was all his brain could process.

You froze, swallowed, and said, "I'm sorry, Satan. I'll try to be quieter."

He snarled, and walked away, before realizing he'd completely blown the interaction. Why was it so hard? And why were you so understanding?! As he processed what had just gone down, you'd already texted him about how a manga Levi recommended you was something you thought he'd enjoy based on his recommendations.

This wouldn't be the last time he tried and failed to interact with you. He was starting to realize he was no better than Levi! Levi, his annoying, otaku brother, had talked to you more than he ever had. And he seemed to be able to hold a conversation with you without his sin taking over!

It wasn't fair! He wanted to see your face when he sent a cute cat picture. He wanted to hear your laugh when you thought something he said was funny. He wanted to see the empathy in your eyes when you told him it was okay, and that he wasn't his sin. The confidence in your expression, when you said that he could learn to control his wrath one day.

He'd blown up on his "brothers" again, and had left the House of Lamentation, deciding to sit in the gazebo by the pond, staring at the stars, and clenching his fists so tightly that his talons drew blood.

He heard someone walking up behind him, and felt them sit on the bench next to him.

He didn't have to look up to know it was you.

"Go away!"

You didn't say anything, just sat there. He saw you shift out of the corner of his eye, and then felt his phone vibrate with a new message from you. He ignored it. No point in hearing what you had to say.

You shifted again, and he flinched when you placed a hand on top of one of his clenched fists.

It took him a moment to realize his cheeks had grown wet, and he was trembling. You thankfully didn't mention it, just sat with him as he processed his feelings.

You were so gentle. So kind. Better than any angel, or Celestial Realm could ever be.

….

Your head rested in his lap, and he offhandedly stroked your hair as you read together in his private library.

"Satan?" you hummed, breaking the peaceful silence.

"Mhmm?"

"Mammon was telling me about the couple of centuries after you were born."

He groaned, and you giggled.

"Sounds like you were a bit of a trouble maker."

"Were?" He snickered, tickling your side, and causing you to snort.

"You know what I mean, you ass," you groaned, swatting his hand away. 

"So I was curious, how did you learn to cope with your sin? Like, the other brothers were angels, so in theory they should have had the tools to overcome, but it kind of sounds like you were on your own…"

Your trailed off at the end, voice tinged with a hint of sadness.

"We used to have this attendant," he said, trying hard to bring the memories to the surface after years of disuse. "I don't know what happened to them, they probably got eaten or something, but they were a unique demon, and when I was in a particularly bad fit, they would come sit with me. Their strength gave me strength."

He hummed to himself. "It's been a while since I've thought about that, actually. But without them lending me their peace, I never would have found my own."

"Sounds like they were important to you," you hummed, nuzzling into him affectionately.

He wrapped his arms around you, before saying, "Yeah. I guess. But I have someone better now."

You laughed, before smiling up at him, "Still, I'm happy you had them, or I wouldn't have you now."

"Yeah, I guess not."

He wasn't sure if his brother's father could hear them in hell, but he sent up a quick thank you for the demon attendant for bringing him you.

Can’t believe I have to say this but for the love of god do not mock or belittle artists who don’t design Silver as buff. I’ve seen people give crap to James L Barry because he drew her skinny in the mangas and also saw artists getting some flack for doing skinny or slender Silver designs. Some art i saw getting hate on were from like 2011 or 2017. Thats way before we even got the prophecies begin graphic novel previews.

Hey, any other Neo AUs you've drawn or been meaning to draw but fleshed out in your head? Like you have vampy Neo, and Hazbin Neo now, and the P3 Reload Neo you drew. Any other neato Neo'd you got cooking?

I don't even think I would count with P3 Neo because it was just one drawing, like, I would say I didn't flesh that out at all in my head aside of getting some basic questions about her arcana choice, it was more of a 'I like the style! I'll try to draw a Neo in it' for the small challenge than anything xD

Nevertheless, I may as well make a list of the Neos I've drawn in the style of other series, that were done for fun, rather than to flesh an AU

When it comes to the fleshed out AUs inside my head we have:

THE VAMPIRE AU

It was the first, I know a lot of people know of its existence, but I had to mention it anyway because I'll forever be fond of it. Like, vampires are one of my main hyperfixations, so I almost always gotta have a vampire AU if the character in question isn't one already.

Even if the main timeline is up to happen in a modern setting, I've actually written some of Neo's past in RP format to develop her life with her parents, when she was still a recently sired vampire and stuff.

CYBERPUNK 2077 AU

I think the doodles speak very well by themselves, but the main idea with this was that Neo was an ex-Corpo that used to work for Salem (Grimm Corp.), which treated to experiment on Cyberpsychos in order to turn them into mechanical aberrations (like the Hound, but more Cyberpunk).

I was partially inspired by the run I played in my own Cyberpunk 2077 game lol

Nevermore AU

My bestie and I watched the Wednesday show and ended brainstorming an AU for the academy that the protag stays at. I actually wrote a bit of Neo in the setting as well with my bestie, for the fun of it.

POKEMON AU

I actually learnt a few things while doing this one and brainstorming ideas, because I had no idea they use Ditto in the mangas to shapeshift people, as in, Ditto can cover a person and use the shifting powers so the person has a disguise like, WHAT?

Anyway, a Pokemon AU of my Neo. Mimikyu was her starter as a kid when still known as Trivia. The Espeon actually helps with transmitting Neo's thoughts if she needs to communicate real bad, Ditto is for her own shapeshifting...

She also has a Vanilluxe and a Zoroark (her biggest ace in the sleeve) for proper battle and help with her crimes due to illusions. Vanillite and Ditto are the ones swapped for them in that case.

ROCK AU

THE FUCKING ROCK AU HAS ONE OF MY FAVE NEO DESIGNS! Like I love her, I loved designing this one. It was fun. I should draw her more, honestly.

In this one, Neo ACTUALLY had a voice at first, she was actually a vocalist and keyboard player before an accident that left her vocal cords fucked up- had to go through an operation, but she never recovered her voice.

She's a musician that actually uses old records of her voice to develop a system that will replicate her voice for new songs, think like, Vocaloid, sort of.

She eventually meets Cinder and joins her band as a guitarist to honor Roman.

...eventually also falls out with her and ends with Ruby's band, initially to spite Cinder for kicking her out.

MAFIA AU

Bruh, I even went ahead and designed all the members of the Ever After Mafia in this one. Neo wasn't initially part of them and had her own thing -Roman's Mafia- which she inherited after Roman died.

Cinder is like a double agent in this one and eventually betrays Neo and leaves her to die (following Salem's orders), but Neo survives and ends in the Ever After, desperate to have revenge against Salem's Mafia for what they did.

The Curious Cat is the big boss initially, but he was a motherfucking manipulator that took advantage of the other members when they were in their lowest, even Neo.

So Neo eventually has enough and kills him, becoming the boss instead, even if she honestly hates the responsibility. It's when Neo becomes the Mad Hatter for the group.

EXORCIST AU

The recent one- I'm sure people don't need that much info of this one because it's pretty recent.

Your smile only widens at the whole 'aren't you the special reserve?' line, knowing what Rider truly had planned. He really was good at this whole deception thing. This match was packed with action, there were many notes to take. Of course, Emperor likely wouldn't fall for the same move twice- but it goes to show what he's best at predicting. This game isn't all about reading your opponent's actions and adapting, it's about reading, predicting, and being able to adapt before actions take place. Guessing properly. Knowing that if somebody fliches towards one direction even a little how the whole following 10 seconds may play out. Seeing it many, many steps ahead.

It was hard to explain, but you believed that you and your team were slowly making it to that point- if not already there. Seeing plays happen before it even crossed the opponent's mind. Seeing their best option, knowing what they're gonna do next, and intercepting.

One thing that was obvious but you realized could be a liability was how diligent and precise they were. There was no room for mistakes- or rather, they were unsure of how to deal with them because of how used to perfection they are. There is absolutely no chaos. They freeze in the face of disarray.

You scribble down a few more notes as the match comes to an end, shutting your manual with a quiet thump. You quickly glance over at Prince who's analyzing his past opponents, slowly going through character development right in front of you. It's interesting to be able to know what's going on behind the scenes and in character's heads as things play out, really.

It's annoying sometimes, though. You can't help but worry about how fake this all feels, or how you might be in a coma or something. It feels too real. Not to mention; what if other characters found out? Canon as well as non-canon ones? Would you be hated? They'd be skeptical at the very least, right?

No, you've done a good job with cover-ups up until this point. Living in Calamary county, running from home- it was all realistic and added up to a good backstory, right? You'd be fine, you're sure.

You rub the bridge of your nose and lightly shake your head before huffing as you stand up. You needed a mental break. If you remember correctly, Goggles and Gloves' battle was next, so that could be the perfect time to relax and possibly have a laugh or two.

Off The Hook announces the quarter finals- wait, weren't these supposed to be the semis? Something must have changed given your team entering. No big issue, things have all gone just as the manga has predicted it, so there's no need to worry.

You make your way out of the stands out to Deca Tower, having to wait a bit for your teammates to catch up. You couldn't blame them, being with their idols; but it seemed the S4 was trailing along once again. Nothing better to do, you suppose. You tease the idea of them wanting to be around you,- Aloha's quick to wink at that and shoot you some finger guns, but is quickly cut off by you saying that surely it's because they're looking forward to more of your... "fun" training. Skull's the only one who doesn't seem to inwardly panic at your words, tilting his head. As airheaded as always, that sweetheart.

You do a small stretch, your body not being a fan of sitting still for too long. You let out a soft groan before going over to the board to remind yourself where the next battle takes place. With one hand on your hip, you trail a finger along the board, looking for your timing. You eventually find it and your team and the S4 are off to watch the next match.

Leo's quick to say hi to Rider and find some seats nearby, and you offer a lazy wave and smile before sitting down. Tasha's surprisingly quick to sit next to Bamboo and begin some small talk. Now that's new. But you're proud of her, not dwelling on it too much. The two keep their voices low, as expected of them- it seems they're talking about weapons or something.

The match begins, and you can't help but smile at all the shenanigans. You forgot how fun and easy-going matches could be; being so used to salty, aggressive, and rude opponents. You lean your cheek into your palm and chuckle at Half-Rim's "four-eyes" comment. He seems so serious all the time, you think it adds to the humor. You enjoy the back-and-forth banter, and even enjoy the shouts from Leo, unsure whether to cheer for Bobble Hat or Gloves. It seems he has some bias towards Gloves, though... you can't blame him, he must be happy to have a "bro" (more of a fanboy-turned-friend, but that doesn't matter now).

"As always, I have no idea if he's amazing or just stupid,"

Ah, so this is when that iconic line was said. Hah, nice.

You look down at the battle before you. Each member has a smile written across their face, and you're beginning to rethink how they could take down Team Monarch. 'Realistically, back in my world, it would make no sense. Those main character powers sure are something. Or, well- Goggles seems to be a very amiable guy, so there's that too.'

You look around at his other teammates, admiring each one and their own strategies.

'He surrounds himself with good people, too.'

You shift from your palm to your knuckles to lean on, watching the battle continue to play out.

'He never did end up swaying Mask, so maybe it's not all about being a main character, but having a good heart? Wonder if that's why so many people follow along with him and enjoy his presence.'

Unbeknownst to you, you have a few pairs of eyes on you for all the same reasons.

"His parents would be proud of him" these people see being gay as degrading to a man, what else is new. It really baffles me how Sasuke attracts this specific crowd of people who are 1. wannabe communist revolutionaries 2. homophobic 3. extremely aggressive.

I blocked her because she just harasses me in my notes. She says "just because Kishi drew him that way doesn't mean anything, he's a drawing" like what. If you can't even say anything smart about my posts then leave.

Long distance relationship sengen 😊

here's some sketches and tiny comics that i started on after the end of the manga. these take place during the time skip

i thought it would be hilarious if senku sent the video phone to gen but didn't assemble it before sending it over. but he made an instruction manual and everything so gen would have to put it together himself :D I even wrote up a lil bit were xeno tells stan about how senku's gonna send the phone in parts "he's made a manual and everything" and xeno thinks a project like that would take forever for someone like gen, but stan says "nah, I give him 2, 3 weeks tops." and then they make a bet 😂 i wish i drew those up :P

and since i absolutely hate the time machine and the idea that they would mine other planets for resources only so that they can go back in time and stop the petrification from ever happening, i've decided that senku just goes back in time to see his dad and tell him that all the things he left behind got them to the point where they are now able to time travel :) that's way sweeter to me. so my idea for this is senku likes to tell gen when he's asleep on their video calls that he's building a time machine and this is his plan. 🥺 i realized after drawing it that gen would probably know before-hand if his camera placement was off but...maybe he's tired 🥺 imagine in that last image that gen is sawing logs 😂 snoooorrk mimimimimi (i mean that's not the mood but it makes me laugh) also i had to download japanese fonts for that おやすみ on the screen 👀 so fonts make more sense to me now lol

i like to imagine that senku would take some time during those years to fly out to where ever gen is, on the guise of picking up new talent for his lab or whatever lame excuse he needs :p congrats getting through this lol tell me your time-skip headcannons (doesn't have to be sengen related either) and what you think of that blasted time machine :)

In my personal and 100% valid opinion

Aside from actual motion of the characters, the og Crystal artsyle was beautiful and very closely resembled Naoko Takeuchi's artstyle.

The problem was the lack of consistency. The artsyle in seasons 1 and 2 is highly detailed as is Takeuchi's artsyle. But this isn't very ideal with animation. However, I think if handled *better* it could've been an absolutely beautiful anime.

I know that I talk about how season 3 vastly improved the anime, and it did. But it also made it feel less familiar. The style and movement feels less like Sailor Moon. I've never watched the Precure series but the artstyle is like crazy similar to that anime. It's cute but I don't know if it works too well.

That includes the transformation animations. There is some nice work with glitter and spotlights, shininess and whatnot. Nothing to say about the inner and outer senshi sequences since they're remakes of the classic ones. But in Sailor Moon's case, she has a unique one each time. (At least up to episode 32-ish) and how to put this... Usagi's s3 transformation sequence animation is *jarring* there's like- too much exaggeration. And tbh I don't like it at all.

So going back to season 1, the CG that I've talked about before? Yea its jarring too if you're not expecting it. However its also really beautiful. Specifically Usagi's sequence!

Look. At. The. Camera. Angles!!! Like the focus on her hands (which is a consistency in this anime) and the use of panning! Especially in the Tiara shot how it revolves around her as the beams light up from her forehead. It's just so pretty!

And the other recurring clips are really nice too!

Look at the arch that Usagi's arm makes as she performs her signature intro! I love looking at this scene everytime for that part! And the timing with raising her arms before quickly bringing them down as she says "Oshiokyo!" (or "I'll punish you" in dub) Those are things that this clip do better than every other version of this iconic gesture.

And then here, the camera angles again are on point. And the forshortening on her hand is just *chef's kiss*

And something I just wanted to mention, Makoto looks gorgeous in some of these shots from s1 and s2. The artstyle is like perfect for her.

Moving on now, I wanna touch on Eternal. In terms of quality, Eternal is easily my favorite. The character pallets are accurate, and the character animation is excellent.

However. In terms of matching Naoko's artstyle, well it doesn't. Its an homage to the 90s anime. They even recreate the transformation sequence animations for Usagi. Things like the character's hair having less strands and detail. Actually there's less detail in general. But the eye highlights match the manga pretty well. I mean it all works. I could endlessly rant about all I love from Eternal because literally the only issues I've found are with the pacing of the whole thing. I've seen people say that the characters are still really expressionless. I personally don't see that? But like its a valid opinion when comparing it to the 90s anime they were clearly honoring.

I would have loved to see the outer Senshi in the s1 artsyle. Specifically Michiru. One of the things I love about the way Naoko draws her is her flowing gorgeous wavy hair. And she draws it fairly long. Past her shoulders and sometimes longer.

Crystal s3 her debut season, usually drew her hair as long as it should be. And she looked as gorgeous as her manga counterpart. But then Eternal came, and Michiru's character design more resembled the 90s anime. And no offense, but I hate her 90s anime hair. She always looks like someone awkwardly chopped her hair right at her shoulders. Its just not nearly as pretty as she should be designed. Eternal did a mix of the two. Its still pretty but also inconsistent. Because in some scenes it has the choppy look. So yea I'd love to see Michiru and all the other characters in the s1 artsyle. I know it will never happen but still wanna see it.

This is my long winded way of saying I am in the minority and love Crystal seasons 1 and 2 for all its faults and successes. It really had amazing potential to be absolutely beautiful and a big win for shojo anime. If only the time and care was put into the show as a whole and not only certain individual frames or clips.

Gyomei- "She is a kind, young soul and I do respect her. As she has worked hard to be at her level now. She is smart and quick to think on her feet when there is trouble. She is a nice person despite her age."

Tengen- "That half-demon hashira? I heard she's a strong girl but her appearance is what gets me.. I mean who wouldn't wanna spend all day admiring her skills. It's very impressive."

Giyuu- "She's a sweet person. She's kind and has a good smile. A little too naive."

Obanai- "Ilona? The only thing I think of her is that she is the strangest hashira. I don't know how she even passed the Final Selection with her skills. I thought Shinobu Kocho was the strangest out of the hashira. She's way too quiet. Ilona might be strong, but there's something strange about her."

Sanemi- "She's a strong and competent individual. Although she is quiet, her presence is comforting."

Kyojuro- "She is kind and gentle but can become fierce if she ever has to protect someone. An extraordinary hashira with a lot of potential. "

Mitsuri- "She is a strong girl. She may come off as shy, but she is a very sweet soul. The fact that she is a hashira is already astonishing. Also I am really impressed by her strength. Her cold side is a bit scary, but I have to admit, she looks adorable!! Her eyes are very sparkly!!

Shinobu- "I think she's a good person, but I'm quite suspicious of her because she always calm. Despite her shy demeanor, she is quite reliable since I trained her little sister I never knew she had."

Muichiro- "She's like a snow leopard. Considering her abilities, she can move quickly and quietly as far as I know. She can adapt to a variety of situations like a predator to its prey."

Ilona (Gyomei)- "Gyomei is like a father figure to me, despite him being blind. I'm half deaf and I would understand that."

Ilona (Tengen)- "I hate that dumb bitch. i remember one time he called me "babygirl" when he gave me a tissue for my nosebleed. Every time I hear him call me that, I wanna just beat his ass and curse him out in Ukrainian"

Ilona (Giyuu)- "I would say he's like my older brother, David. He keeps to himself. But I would be Giyuu's therapist friend if he needs anything."

Ilona (Obanai)- "I feel like he looks like someone who committed a crime with no remorse with that look on his face. But he his a chill guy in general.

Ilona (Sanemi)- "The non-eyebrowed bitch... I would feel like I wanna burn his house, but his little brother Genya is a nice person but I would respect Sanemi despite him acting so bitchy."

Ilona (Kyojuro)- "He is loud. When I heard he was basically deaf, I decided to feel sympathetic since I was deaf when I was 4 years old. So I understand what he's going through."

Ilona (Mitsuri)- "She's like someone who has ADHD. A very hyper personality when she rants about Obanai. But I love how her hair looks unique."

Ilona (Shinobu)- "She is like my oldest sister, Irina. My sister knows about medical stuff. She is a good doctor not gonna lie. Shinobu is a nice woman despite the one time I think she was younger than me because she is short. Don't worry I'm shorter than my 2 younger siblings."

Ilona (Muichiro)- "To be honest, I love that guy. He might have memory loss but I would say the same thing for myself since I have anxiety and I forget within anything within a few seconds."

Eyeliner

Eyeliner (Naoya Zenin/Reader)

Author’s note: Hey guys. This is my first Naoya fic. I might have taken some liberties with his character because, as you all know, his personality in the manga is flaming garbage. But I wanted to sort of show a softer side of him (totally fanon). I’d like to maybe write a Naoya series in the future but he’s so tricky to make likable (that stinky guy).

Side note: It's interesting how canonically he's the only Zenin who puts such an effort into his appearance. It goes against the hyper masculine image the Zenin fam projects. This fic very briefly touches on that (but not too much, you could argue it doesn't at all).

Warnings: Naoya Zenin, some suggestive language, some cursing, implied sexual content, suggestive content, misogyny, traditional gender roles. 

“(Name)?” Naoya called out from the bottom of the staircase. “Are you almost ready?”

“I’m just finishing up my makeup,” you replied back from upstairs.

He sighed and checked his watch. The two of you had to be at his father’s house in half an hour for dinner. It wasn’t that he was desperate to go. He hated his family. Whenever he had to spend ‘quality time’ with them he felt his life span shrink drastically. Nevertheless, being late would only prolong his suffering. Best to arrive and leave quickly. So he draped his evening coat on the banister and ventured upstairs to fetch you.

When he entered the master bedroom he found you stationed at the vanity still wearing his robe. 

Your evening gown rested on the bed with your newly purchased heels still in the box. 

“You’re not even dressed yet?” he griped.

You looked away from the mirror to face him, an apologetic crease in your brow. 

“I’m sorry, it’s this damn eyeliner I bought,” you sighed.

As he approached the vanity, he noticed the excessive amount of makeup remover wipes stained and piled up in front of you.

“I made the brilliant decision to try a liquid eyeliner instead of a pencil and I can’t seem to get my wings even without going too thick,” you scoffed at your reflection. “I look like a racoon.”

Noaya couldn’t argue that you’d made a bit of a mess, but little did you know he was equipped to fix it. 

“Get up,” he ordered.

You perched yourself on the edge of the bathroom counter, per Naoya’s instructions. He had removed the muck from your eyes with another makeup wipe and uncapped your eyeliner. 

“Close your eyes.”

You tilted your head in confusion. 

“What are you going to do?”

“I’m going to fix your mess dummy,” he barked. 

You gave him a sharp look and he quickly drew back.

“Just, trust me okay?” he muttered.

You sighed and reluctantly shut your eyes. 

Noaya leaned forward and effortlessly applied a delicate wing on your right eye. Before he could move onto your left eye his gaze wandered down your chest, something catching his attention. 

“My eyes are up here,” you mused.

Naoya jumped back to find you looking at him with a shit eating grin on your face. 

“Should I undo my robe so you can have a better look?” 

He just glared at you. “It’s my robe.”

You began to untie it. “Do you want it back?”

Before you could fully expose yourself Naoya firmly grabbed your chin to keep you in place. 

“Stop distracting me,” he muttered. “It’s not like I haven’t seen it before. And why aren’t you wearing a bra?”

You rolled your eyes. “I’m wearing a strapless dress. I’ll just wear some pasties.” 

Once you closed your eyes again he promptly finished your left eye. 

“I’m finished,” he announced.

You hopped off the counter and turned around to inspect his handiwork. Needless to say, you were impressed.

“Holy shit,” you mumbled. 

Your eyeliner looked great, framed perfectly with symmetrical wings on both ends of your eyes. 

“Finish getting dressed. I’ll meet you downstairs.”

Before Noaya could leave you stopped him, grabbing his hand and turning him to face you.

“How did you learn to do that?” 

He just shrugged. “I used to…wear eyeliner when I was younger.”

“Really?”

His face turned red. He was clearly embarrassed. 

“When I’d go out. I stopped. My father…caught me sneaking into the house wearing it.”

You said nothing. 

You could only imagine what the staunch and conservative Naobito Zenin had done when he saw his son wearing makeup. The briefest expression of grief flashed over Naoya’s face, like he was seeing a skeleton he had buried long ago. He quickly recovered and cleared his throat.

“See you downstairs.”

You quickly pecked his lips and trapped him in your arms. “Thank you. You did an amazing job.”

He gave you an unreadable expression and a curt nod. 

With that he turned to leave, closing the bedroom door behind him. These little moments with you made him feel odd. It was different, allowing you to have this sort of intimacy with him. A few years ago he couldn’t imagine a woman having such control over him, but now things felt different. 

He pulled his discarded coat from the banister and put it on. 

Vulnerability was still a concept he was getting used to, and it was an uncomfortably irresistible thing.

(Later that night)

The two of you watched the 12:00 news in bed. You were content, resting in Naoya’s arms as the anchors droned on. 

“I’m going to keep practicing with the liquid eyeliner,” you announced. 

Naoya hummed in acknowledgement. 

“When I get good enough I’m going to do your eyeliner,” you declared. 

Naoya said nothing for a moment. You prepared yourself for a sarcastic quip you’d flawlessly counter. Instead, he just held you a little tighter.

“That’ll be the day,” he jested.

This is an homage to a big part of my childhood, the classic manga and anime from the 1990s, 'Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon' by Naoko Takeuchi. You may ask why I drew Sailor Mercury first, not the heroine /Sailor Moon. Sailor Mercury / Ami Mizuno was my favourite among all the Sailor Guardians. I loved how she was smart, diligent, and sweet natured.

And she taught four-year-old me 'short hair could be cute too.' My kindergarten had this weird policy: all the kids had to keep their hair short. I hated it. I remember I would comfort myself by saying ' I have the same hair style as Ami-chan's.'

ANIME vs MANGA: Officer Krillin

DBS ANIME CONTINUITY:

Krillin never drew a gun on armed robbers in the DBS anime continuity. He just threw hands!

Krillin's entire body is a lethal weapon yet, he apprehends dangerous criminals without using deadly force of any kind. He just beats them up like Spider-Man does. (He's basically a Spider-Man that gets paid.)

Krillin is a great example of a what police officers should strive to be like. He is popular among the citizens & considered to be a good cop because he actually makes them feel safe. (Even DBFZ references how good Krillin is at his job.)

DBS MANGA CONTINUITY:

For some reason, manga Krillin carries a gun. A weapon that is meant to deliver lethal force.

DBS chapter 90 ⬇

Why pull out a gun if he's never gonna use it. Why even have a gun in the first place? Krillin doesn't need it. Oh I'll tell you why... Toyotaro made Krillin weaker in the manga. So weak that manga Krillin says that he has gotten a lot weaker, Goku says he's only good for being small & running away, and in DBS chapter 91... Krillin gets defeated by Hatchimaru. Yes, the tiny cyborg wasp defeated the Earth's strongest man in 1 strike in the DBS manga continuity... Why? Because Toyotaro really hates him for no reason.

And the only time Krillin uses his gun was against a robot bee only to get easily defeated by it? Toyotaro needs to be fired for many many reasons. He is a stink on the DB brand.

Also, Krillin is barely even in the DBS manga anyway. If memory serves me right, DBS chapter 88 is the first time we actually see Krillin in his police uniform in the manga. The time before that was in the Resurrection F promotional manga that predates the DBS manga & isn't necessarily considered part of the DBS manga continuity (at least to my knowledge it isn't yet).

FLASHLIGHT REPLACED WITH A GUN

Something important to note is that Toriyama's design for Krillin in DBS: Super Hero DOES NOT have a gun. He has a flashlight and pouch (likely with handcuffs inside). But, for the DBS manga, Toyotaro replaces Krillin's flashlight with a gun (& later gets rid of the pouch).

In DBS chapter 88, Krillin is shown with a gun on his belt while a flashlight is in his hand. Toyotaro changed the flashlight to a gun BEFORE chapter 90. That ain't a flashlight handle on his belt in chapter 88.

LOCATION

In the DBS anime continuity, Satan City Officer Krillin is properly located in Satan City.

In the DBS manga continuity, Krillin and other Satan City Police Officers are stationed in West City Police Department for some reason with no WCPD in sight.

So, which did it best? Anime or Mang-- Who am I kidding? The Anime did it best!
