Well, that was some plot twist, can I just say that Cami and Antoine were the real MVPs of this chapter? I loved every single thing they did and said in this chapter and I really really hope we see more of Antoine and Abigail, they are the only sane couple of this story (at least for now).
But I have soo many thoughts!
Most of the next generation, especially the kids you chose, to live in the same building has got to be one of my favourite plot twists. I'm shooketh. This has so much potential. Regine and Arthur? Kincaid wooing Arthur? Kincaid and Joan training and Arthur with Regine thirsting after them? Regine working through her feelings and becoming a better person? Lance witnessing Kincaid being a decent person and maybe being somewhat similar to him? Them hiding from the adoring crowd to a closet or something? Theia and Kincaid being amazing siblings in law? That storyline is a major game changer and I'm thrilled to see how you'll explore it!
I love love love Gwen and I'm so glad she's back! And telling Lucifer to respect Lance? Queen behavior right there
Does every Knightstorm have to be a bigoted nightmare? Blood supremacist, homophobe, what's next? No offence Mikkel but we have enough problems to worry about without you trying to create a cult. On a side note, super stoked to see what happened to him and Hermes. I have a feeling they used to be close? And most likely it was platonic but maybe a little romantic too? Maybe?👀
Here are some things that feel like they're connected (but probably aren't): 1)Theia mentions in LBAF 5 that she "sees" Lance dating a mundane blonde girl, like a Barbie girl, which reminds me of Regine 2)It's been mentioned a lot that Regine/Lance were going to be married/parabatai by Madeleime when they were kids a lot 4)Arthur sees Lance with a parabatai rune. I honestly don't even have an actual theory about this, those things just seem to connect?
Speaking of the parabatai rune, if Lance and Arthur don't end up becoming parabatai(I can see Atlas figuring the runes problem) Kincaid and Lance kind of make sense? Not because they are close but because parabatai are supposed to share a soul. And both Kincaid's and Lance's soul is Arthur. So, in a way they're already sharing a soul.
Another crazy theory: The prophecy isn't talking about Lance/Kincaid but about Lucifer/Micheal and Lance and Kincaid clash is just the beginning of the war between the other two. Or when Kincaid burns Lance, it would destroy the pandemonium but Lance would live, and it would be the prince of darkness' demise because he would no longer be a portal? Or even that it would destroy Lucifer and not Lance? Can Kincaid use heavenly fire to hurt Lucifer?👀
I was so convinced that Joseph would come back I just had a feeling! Oh, I can't wait to see his interaction with Madeleine and how he reacts to what he hears everything she has done. I can see Madeleine believing that it's not really Joseph or at first believing it and after he tells her what she's doing is insane, her being convinced it's a ploy by Lance. But that means his death is a canon event 😭
I am DYING just picturing how the conversation between Max and David planning the trial went. How they came up with using the alliance rune. That would've been an amazing scene, I love these two
Okay, while it was very in character, the Lance/Max interaction I didn't like. Because I feel like Max should have listened to Lance. He was the only person Lance would've told the actual reason to. The only person that could assure Lance that what he did was pointless. He did the same thing with Magnus in LBAF II and the "I hurt the people I love so they should stay away from me" mentality Lance has adopted screams Max so he really should've heard him out. Because it wasn't a "bullshit excuse" it was an actual reason that makes Lance feel bad about himself. And Max had an opportunity to comfort him and ruined it. But Lance needed a good whooping. I hope he talks to David about this. Let David do the comforting part.
Lance being happy about Arthur breaking up with Kincaid, while completely understandable and in character also feels wrong. He should've asked, because Arthur is so terrified and when Lance shut Theia out it was because of very similar reasons. But he wasn't alone in it. He had Gwen and Arthur. Arthur is alone. And he doesn't deserve that. And for a really long time he chose it. He hid it from other people. But now they know. So they have a say in it. To question, to help , to support him. They have an opening now and I really hope they take it. David asking why Arthur broke up with Kincaid made me so happy. I really hope he questions Arthur a little deeper about it. Because Lance and Max won't. And I get why. But someone has to. David really is holding them all together isn't he?
Every other villan in this story doesn't hold a candle to Lucifer. The guy is not here to fuck around. He kept to the point, he didn't have unnecessary dramatics. I can really see why he is considered the smartest out of all of them. Again, he DOES NOT fuck around. And that was crystal clear when Lance said he hates feeling unwanted and Lucifer made it sound like he doesn't want him. He used his insecurity against him and whether he meant it or not it was a very strong start for him to manipulate Lance. Never underestimate Lucifer indeed.
On a happier note, a small reminder that this isn't the first time Lance gives Theia flowers! But it's the first time they reach her-bad Kincaid
I live in Dream Denial Daydream world. It's like Barbie's world, except in this world all the good guys that came back to life can stay with zero consequences and only the assholes have to return to the dead. Some of them sooner than others. Pwease🥺
The Magnus changing the canon event- his dreams going away- Max treating Alec like that are things I have locked away in a little box and I refuse to revisit them until we get to LBAF 7. But Magnus not having these dreams makes me super worried about Other Magnus and the epilogue will probably let us know about what happened. I am so scared about that🙃
I can't believe that we are getting to the end of the first part! It was a wild ride and I loved every minute of it. Anxiously waiting for the epilogue and then it's back to Mavid fluff, I can't wait🥰
AHHHH LBAF ASK FROM VICKY. HEHEHE I LOVE THESE.
Cami and Antoine are indeed the MVPs. Really out there doing what needs to be done. We'll definitely see Antoine and Abby more...Maybe on a double date 👀
This is one of my favourite things about the next season (yeah I am saying it now too). I've been waiting to bring them all together. There's just gonna be a lot of bonding and I'm soooo pumped about it hehe.
Gwen, we missed you 🥹
Knightstorms being cunts, who else is surprised? Hermes and Mikkel is platonic I swear 🤣
They are not connected hehe. But then again I lie all the time so who knows?
Lance having a parabatai is hilarious to me idk why he'll be like "tying my soul to someone ew" But i'd love that for him
I've heard this theory before. I must say it's quite popular 👀
I remember when Joseph died, I let it slip that it's a canon event, I'm glad none of yall remember it kdjnkjsnjkdcs
I NEED A ONE-SHOT.
You're very right about this. It's in character, but it's also not the sensible thing to do. I feel like Other Max would've handled this before (he thinks with his head whereas Current Max very much still thinks with his heart)
Same thing. In character, but like bro why did you do that? I think Lance might have been too relieved to think too deeply about it. But maybe he'll start noticing how the break up affects Arthur? When mavid find out Arthur broke up with Kincaid, Max asks 'when' and David asks 'why' - a small hint there that David is indeed worried and doesn't understand why Arthur would do that. Hopefully they'll have a chat.
Lucifer 🫡
YOU REMEMBERED!
Wouldn't that be nice oof
Yeah all of it not good. very bad. terrible.
Wild ride is definitely right. Thank you for sticking with me through it 🥹🧡

Twisted Wonderland — Persona 5 Crossover Headcanons by Yuri_Osakawa
Something else for my P5 x TWST crossover madness brainchild:
Akane Hasegawa (P5 Strikers) (pretend her hairclip is a star)
Tumblr media
Backstory:
After the events of Strikers, Akane and her father, Zenkichi, are trying to mend their relationship. It's not bad, but it is better. One night, Akane sees her dad coming home and decides to run out to greet him. They are both intercepted by a black carriage.
Akane wakes up in a coffin and is helped out by Riddle, who is confused as to why there is a girl at NRC. After some awkward silence, Zenkichi and the other Phantom Thieves (plus Sumire and Sophia who is in Joker's phone) come into the Mirror Chamber. The father-daughter duo have an emotional reunion that is quickly ruined by Crowley.
When they find out they can't go home, they are shown to the Ramshackle dorm, where they will be staying until they can find a way home. Zenkichi decides to take up Crowley's offer of becoming the school officer so that the Thieves can have an education. Since Akane is the only one without magic (minus Sophia who lives in Joker's phone), she and Grim are made to be one student.
Over the course of their time at NRC, Akane becomes closer to her dad, gets to know the PT outside of their masks, and makes friends with the students at NRC. But Akane begins to think of herself as a burden, since her dad, the Thieves, and her new friends are always saving her. She wishes she could do magic or at least have a Persona like the rest.
She begins to resent her weakness, but meets Silver, who tells her that he feels the same way, since his adoptive father is a fae and he is a human. He offers to train her in swordsmanship so that she can protect herself, which she gladly takes up the offer. Zenkichi doesn't like this at first, but sees that is makes her feel better so he allows it.
Akane eventually awakens her own Persona. Her Arcana is the Faith (like Sumire) and her Persona is D'Arc (Joan of Arc). Her PT outfit resembles her Monarch outfit, with it being white instead of black, but still keeps the red accents. She wears a solid red skirt, a white dress shirt under the corset, and a white cravat. Her mask is also white with gold details. Her hat is gone and replaced with a gold star on a red headband. Her weapons are a rapier and a small handgun. She specializes in healing and protection. Her codename is Belle.

I think Judy is actually Jay's little sister.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jay was born in 1918 and got his powers in 1940 when he was 21 years old. He operated as the Flash until 1949 when he retired. He would have been 30 at the time.
The new golden age sidekicks are golden aged. Meaning that Judy Garrick, who looks to be 12-14 years old, had to have been operating with Jay somewhere within 1940-1949.
Let's be conservative and say she's 12 and was only introduced in 1949. That puts Jay at 18 when she was born. That's before him and Joan were even dating.
Tumblr media
It's probably more accurate to say she is 14 given that the artist depicting her is the og YJ artist. (who oftentimes draws teenagers in a way that makes them look significantly younger. The above photo only pictures teenagers 13-17 years old for example.) I'm also going to say that, given she was around long enough to form a team of sidekicks, she probably debuted before 1949.
So that puts Jay at ~7-15 years older than Judy. That's a pretty standard sibling age gap. Also, considering Jay's dad died when he was 12 and his mother died before he turned 21, Jay would likely be Judy's sole caregiver.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now there are other options here. Given how Judy's last name is Garrick, she would have to be related to Jay in some form. She could be his adopted daughter. Adoption isn't a foreign concept to Jay and Joan as they did adopt a son (who unfortunately died as an infant), so it wouldn't be crazy to suggest that they adopted a daughter. I think Judy looks a little too much like Jay to be adopted but that's just me. I see those baby blues and that dark brown hair.
She could also be his niece or a cousin. The only issue here is that Judy was erased, not anyone else. When Wally was erased Rudy still existed so the lack of a parent for Judy is rather damning. Jay doesn't have family so throwing in a random Garrick sibling out of nowhere (without, you know, the reality altering memory erasing explanation) just wouldn't make sense.
If Jay was just like "My brother Steve had a kid???" I would flip a table. No. There is no Steve. You don't get to invent a Steve. Judy can stay because she is polite.
So yeah, while adopted daughter is definitely a possibility, I'm putting my money on Judy being Jay's baby sister.
* All of this is assuming that Judy didn't age fast like Bart, Irey and Jai.
** Also assuming that Judy isn't a clone
*** Also assuming that Judy grew up in the correct timeline and in the correct reality up until she was kidnapped

They also liked geography since young, and that's why they pursued it
Remember "The Cycle"? Drew the stubble on with a marker. Steve caught him doing that, but shrugged it off

In having thought back to Dragon Age, over the years I have been crafting an au where all seven origin Wardens were recruited by Duncan and survived the Joining and would become the Heroes of Fereldan they were meant to be. Plus, the optional Orlesian Grey Warden from Awakening who would assist them in that continuation. Its changed a lot over the years and I think I’m finally satisfied with it.
And for Dragon Age 2, all three classes Hawke can be existing, but with a twist! One of them is human and the other two are an elf and dwarf who were adopted into the family who become the Champions of Kirkwall they’ll be known as.
Finally, Dragon Age Inquisition. All six potential Inquisitors survived the catastrophe, but only four of them bear the shared mark within their respective hands, and the other two becoming companions to them. All this existing within the same au saga! Here is what I have so far and I may add more to it. May or may not be a fic using all this, but I wanted to share my own ideas.
Dragon Age Origins (headcanons):
All seven Wardens from the six origins (including the elven mage/human mage) were recruited/saved by Duncan, survived the Joining, and kicked the Archdemon's ass together; with the addition of all the possible companions. Except Loghain, he got axed because fuck him. The Wardens are Joan Cousland (warrior/templar), Dante Amell (mage/shapeshifter), Sindra Aeducan (rogue/duelist), Verroth Brosca (warrior/berserker), Limerick Surana (mage/arcane warrior), Faelan Mahariel (rogue/ranger), Misha Tabris (warrior/champion). And the mabari hound of Joan’s is named Griffon. The mabari that they find and bonds with Verroth is named Barkspawn, a name they all can agree on thanks to Alistair’s suggestion.
Joan and Alistair knew each other as children from when Joan and her father and brother would travel to Redcliffe for important matters. A young Joan would join in on Alistair's antics around the castle, having become fast friends. During the summer months of those more innocent years, Joan and Alistair would play even more when he could stay with her and her family. When the time came that Alistair was forced to live in the Chantry, him and Joan would keep in touch to write letters over the years, even if it saddened the two that they could not play together anymore.
The voices/personality of each of the Wardens would be Joan - wise; Dante - suave; Misha - cocky; Limerick - mystical; Faelan - experienced; Verroth - violent; Sindra - smart.
Oren and Oriana are alive and well, not having been killed when Rendon Howe's men captured Cousland castle. Escaping to Antiva thanks to Joan and gang when arriving in Denerim to recruit Misha.
Joan romances Alistair. Misha and Dante romances Zevran. Faelan romances Morrigan and performed the Dark Ritual. Verroth and Sindra romances Leliana. Sindra and Limerick become a couple, and is okay with Sindra being with Leliana, too.
Limerick loved being in the Circle, being grateful for not only learning to master his magic, but for the higher education he lacked living in Lothering with his financially troubled family. But later he does see from an outsider’s point of view that the Circle isn’t so kind. Limerick felt wronged for doing what he was told to do by Irving in exposing Jowan as a blood mage. It was hell for him when venturing out of Kinloch Hold for the first time as he felt like his legs were going to fall off from all the walking.
Misha looked up to her mother much of her life until she died. She loves her cousins and father just as much as well as the Alienage she was born and raised in. She learned how to fight with an axe since she was young. When the aspect of an arranged marriage came about, Misha wasn’t all for it, but the day came, and she met her would-be husband. It would not come to pass because of the Arl’s son. Misha killed several of the guards alongside her cousin. Misha didn’t hesitate to deny Vaughn’s deal and kill him and his friends to save her other cousin. Before she was to leave the Alienage to Ostagar, her father gave her mother’s weapon as a parting gift to her. She did express grief and remorse for the loss of her fiancée and kept the wedding ring he crafted to use in wedding with Dante and Zevran.
Dante was the opposite to Limerick; he hated being trapped in the Circle Tower, but still appreciate learning how to control his magic. Dante almost escaped from the Circle with Anders but chose to be distraction for Anders to escape without him. He greatly missed his mother and siblings, wanting to know what became of them, though giving up as the year’s past. He did learn the fate of his mother, going to the place where her ashes were scattered.
After slaying the Archdemon, each of the seven wardens went on their own paths: Joan reigned as queen alongside Alistair, eventually blessing him with three heirs, Duncan, Rose and Eleanor, to raise and love; having found a way conceive with more success. Verroth remained with Leiliana, bringing a baby girl, Andrea, into the worl Misha and Dante traveled across the lands with Zevran on their own quest across Thedas, with Misha birthing two boys, River and Silas, from all the lovemaking. Sindra was rightfully titled the new Warden-Commander of Fereldan, with Limerick being her Warden-Constable, they had Amaia. As for Faelan, he traveled across Thedas in search for Morrigan to be with her and their son Keiran. Luckily, with the help of old friends and new, he accomplished this and traveled through the eluvian with Morrigan.
Major choices: Connor was saved without having to sacrifice his mother, Isolde. The Sacred Ashes were preserved with the dragon not being slain. Bhelen was made King of Orzammar and the Anvil of the Void destroyed, killing Branka. Brokered peace between the werewolves and elves, Zatherian sacrificing his life to break the curse. Saved Redcliffe from the undead. Recruited Jowan into the group. Liberated the Circle of Magi from demons and saved the remaining mages, including Irving. In Soldier's Peak, they allowed Avernus to continue his research, but more ethical means than before and killed the demon that possessed Sophia's body. Fulfilled all the companion’s quests with positive results, including the one where Faelan Mahariel "killed" Flemeth, and every other possible quest with mostly positive results.
When the seven Wardens entered the Fade by the Sloth demon in the Circle, they each saw their own unique dreams. Joan saw that her whole family was happy and alive again. Verroth seeing that his mother began to treat him right, meeting his father for the first time, seeing his sister happy with her husband and child. Sindra dreamed that her brother was alive and that Bhelen getting respect equally, with the addition of getting together with Gorim. Limerick dreamt of becoming First Enchanter of the College of Magi, though was the first to saw it as nothing more than a dream and worked to free his fellow wardens from Sloth. Misha in her dream too saw what could have been if Nelaros was not killed and her mother being alive. Faelan in his dream saw an image he himself imagined of what his parents looked like, and that his friend Tamlen was never tainted. Dante Amell dreamed of being a free man, using the opportunity to see his mother and family in Kirkwall until he began to see the faults within the dream.
Of course, there were many things each of the wardens did not agree on when it came to certain choices. To name one big example was deciding who to crown King of Orzammar. Coming back to the dwarvan city caused great turmoil between Sindra and Verroth, the two arguing in anger, causing a temporary rift within the group that lasted until they killed the Broodmother. It was there that they settled on the decision on Bhelen becoming Orzammar's king, believing he would last much longer than Harromont would've, yet Sindra still hated the decision after Harrowmont’s execution.
Sindra loved both of her brothers, despite them getting on her nerves at times. She felt that her older brother Trian did not deserve to be killed and was genuinely caught off when Bhelen betrayed her.
Sindra knew King Cailan, as children, when the late King Maric and his son would be invited by her king-father to watch Proving's sometimes. Her and Cailan would play together, but lost touch over the years.
During the events of Awakening, Sindra was promoted to Warden-Commander and Limerick as Warden-Constable and the rest of the Wardens would come to assist with whatever they needed for old times’ sake. A Grey Warden from Orlais was sent to them in good faith named Lyric Caron (warrior/guardian). The three would work together in recruiting new Grey Wardens into their fold in order to defend the Keep and Amaranthine from the darkspawn threat. And would help their companions through their own troubles.
Lyric Caron is a straightforward woman who is new to Fereldan and its customs and is fascinated with how the Heroes of Fereldan manage warden duties so… unlike how she was taught in the order. She watches and learns under the seven and can’t help to admire them and learning of their adventures. Lyric has a wife and child back home she hopes will be alright while she is in Fereldan for a while.
With Nathaniel Howe, the pregnant Queen of Fereldan Joan would chat with him and convince him he should join the Grey Wardens and is remorseful for what happened to the remainder of his family and doesn’t blame him for what his father did. And imprisoned those who conspired with Rendon Howe.
With Velanna, Faelan would be able to put her at ease with their presence in meeting fellow elves and help her get her sister back, however they can.
With Oghren, Verroth and Misha would have a time convincing him to get back with his wife and mend their relationship.
With Justice, they convince him he can leave the deceased body of the former warden for his wife to have buried. Justice ending up possessing Anders’ cat Ser Pounce-A-Lot.
With Anders, he is happy to see Dante and Limerick again after so long since their Circle days. And they help him be on his way without issue when the mission is complete.
With Sigrun, she is excited to meet Verroth and Sindra and gets their autographs as they were inspiring to her as a dwarf.
They chose to spare the Architect and managed to keep both the Keep and Amaranthine from falling to destruction.
Sindra, Limerick and Lyric take up the mission in Amgarrak and succeeded.
During the Witch Hunt, Faelan is aided by Joan, her mabari Griffon and Limerick to find Morrigan and learn of her fate. Faelan would walk into the Eluvian with Morrigan to be with her and their son, and the others retrieved the book in turn.

Dragon Age 2 (headcanons and au):
There was not one, but three Hawke's: Estelle (reaver warrior, diplomatic/helpful), Damian (blood mage, humorous/charming), and Abigail (assassin rogue, aggressive/direct).
Both Carver and Bethany live, as they were saved by their siblings from the ogre in time.
Anders never merged with Justice and got to keep Ser-Pounce-Alot, with said cat becoming possessed by Justice and stays that way. The cat having become Anders’ familiar in a sense.
Merrill never attempted to rebuild the mirror, instead the real reason she had to leave the clan was because she turned to blood magic to gain more knowledge from a demon. Velana would tell Keeper Marethari to get her shit together and help convince her and the Clan to move on and back to Fereldan now that the Blight ended.
Their shared mabari is named Falcon.
Bethany and Carver were left at home while their siblings went on the Deep Roads expedition. When Bethany was taken to the Circle, this further encouraged Carver to join the Templar Order to keep Bethany safe.
Abigail and Anders got married a year after the expedition, having two sons Malcolm and Dante. Damian romances Isabella and Fenris, having a son and daughter Adrian and Adelle. Estelle romances Varric and Merrill, living with him at the Hanged Man, then eventually having daughters named Tonya and Toriel.
Orsino NEVER became a Harvester; instead, sacrificing his life to stop Meredith in the final battle.
Abigail has issues managing her anger and doesn’t want her friends and family to be pushed around. Damian uses his humor to mask his negative emotions in front of most people, pretending to be fine when he’s not fine. Estelle wants to be helpful and find solutions to not feel like a burden to those around her, even if it’s not true, having stemmed from being abandoned and being different than the rest of the family. Abigail, Bethany, and Carver would fight anyone who says Damian and Estelle aren’t family because of what race they each are.
________________________________________________________________
 Dragon Age Inquisition (headcanons):
All six "potential" Inquisitors survived the Conclave; four out of the six sharing the power of the Anchor. Their names being: Nico Cadash (warrior/reaver), Lorna Lavellan (mage/rift mage) and her younger brother Liam Lavellan (warrior/champion), Ivan Trevelyan (mage/knight-enchanter) and his twin sister Iris (warrior/templar), and Rasha Adaar (rogue/artificer). Lorna being the main Inquisitor.
Managing to recruit both the Templars and Mages, making them cooperate to close the Breach. Lorna, Rasha and Liam helped the mages in Redcliffe, while Iris, Ivan and Nico went to help the templars, putting an end to the war. Merrill drinks from the fountain as Morrigan isn’t there to do it.
Lorna romances Solas, conceived a lovechild before he left for those years before Trespasser, birthing a son named, Lunas, and giving him all the love and care he needs. Ivan romances Cassandra and Galyan and have twins name Mason and Madeline. Rasha romances Blackwall and has a few kids with him. Liam romances Iron Bull and Dorian both and has one child. oh my GOD mechanicfam is god tier just may i present an au where tony adopts harley after his mom and sister die in a car crash (post-mandarin) and so tony's the only person harley knows to go to and harley's the thing that makes rhodey and tony get their HEADS out of their ASSES
Harley keeps the business card that was left on the workshop of his house. He kept it in a kitchen drawer that his mom never used, because it full of the “nice” dish towels that were only taken out come Christmastime.
His fingers shake as he grips the phone, punching in the numbers.
“Can I ask who’s calling?”
“It’s...um. Harley. Keener. From Tennessee.”
There’s a shift on the phone, and Harley feels a bit guilty because it is late, but he doesn’t know where else to turn.
“What’s up, kiddo?”
“Um. I need help.”
“With what?”
And that’s when Harley loses it. He can barely enunciate the words, and he’s trying to furiously wipe away tears as he hears a litany of curses over the other line.
“I’m...I’m sorry, I just didn’t know who else to call and I don’t know what to do, and-”
“Kid, don’t you worry. I’ll be there in...two hours. Hell, maybe one if I can break the sound barrier. You have anything to eat yet?”
“Um, no?”
“Okay, then we stop for food when we get home.”
“Home?”
“...we’ll talk when I get there.”
-
Tony, in all honesty, does not know what he’s doing. God knows he had two stellar examples of parenting from Howard and Maria.
But he knows that a kid like Harley will get torn apart, and he...he can’t let him do that.
“Are you sure about this?” Rhodey asks.
“Yes,” Tony says. “I’m sure. We’ll...I’ll figure it out. I promise.”
“You act like I’m not going to help you,” Rhodey says. “I’ll be here waiting for you when you get back. You have a way of transporting him back?”
“Already ordered a car to the airport, we’ll be taking a plane back home.”
“Bring him back safe.”
“Always.”
Harley collapses into Tony’s arms when he touches down, armor barely off.
“Please,” he sobs. “Please just get me out of here.”
Tony wasn’t going into the situation blind. He had seen the article from their newspaper about the crash.
Harley said he had been riding his bike. Abbie really wanted to get a burger, and he hadn’t wanted to go.
“They would still be here if I had gone,” Harley says bitterly, and Tony’s heart has a pang of hurt because he understands that feeling all too well. But right now, Harley doesn’t need someone to understand everything, he just needs to be cared for.
Tony sits down with him at a kitchen table and doesn’t miss how Harley stares at the two chairs across from them.
“I want to talk with you,” he says quietly. “I want to know what you want to do.”
Harley looks at him.
“I...I wasn’t really expecting you to come.”
“We’re connected,” Tony says, a soft smile on his face. “I always will, whenever you want. Now, I’m just here to help you figure out what you want.”
“...what are the options?”
Tony’s willing to go through hell and back for this kid. He doesn’t tell him this verbatim, but the sentiment is there. He’d be willing to do anything, so long as he could see Harley safe and happy wherever he was.
Harley sits outside for a moment, breathing.
And then he can’t breathe.
Abbie’s looking up at the night sky, smiling.
“It’ll always be like this, right Harls?”
“Right,” Harley says, smiling nice and easy. “I’m not gonna let anything bad happen to us.”
Except he did.
It was all over the news, and everyone knew about it.
He comes back in, and Tony can probably tell that he’s at his absolute worst.
“I can’t stay here. I-I need to leave. Now.”
“Alright, let’s go.”
Driving in the car is a mostly silent affair. Tony hums along to AC/DC and tells Harley about new projects.
Their first rest stop, Tony goes out with Harley, watching him carefully.
“I’m not gonna break,” Harley snaps.
“Not saying you’re gonna.”
“Well I’m not.”
“Okay. Rhodey’s at the house waiting for us when we get there.”
“He on leave?”
Tony nods. “Three months. Lucky.”
“Yeah.”
Not a lot after that.
At some point, Harley dozes off, leaning his head against the door.
Tony sends a message to Rhodey when they’re boarding the plane. Harley’s still a little groggy, and mostly content to just blearily go and find a seat and pass out.
He sleeps the whole flight home, and Tony is left with his thoughts.
Thought One: Maybe he Should’ve Left This Alone.
Thought Two: He needs to answer Pepper’s email regarding the press conferences and publicity things, get that all worked out.
Thought Three: He hopes Rhodey has some sort of food ready.
Rhodey sees Tony and Harley stumbling in, and he’s struck for a moment by just how similarly they carry themselves, how Harley’s eyes dart around like Tony’s did when he first moved into their dorm.
“Hi,” Rhodey says. “You hungry?”
“Um.”
“We’ll sit down anyways,” Tony says. “Planes are the worst, Harley. They zap all your energy no matter how long you sit on your ass.”
Rhodey sends Tony a look that says “you should probably watch your language.”
Tony sends back a look that says “now’s not the time to discuss my behaviors.”
Harley sleeps.
He’s surprised he does, because he wakes up about nine hours later, and he feels like he doesn’t deserve this long of sleep. He gets slammed with the current news of his life all over again, and his lips tremble as he gets out of a bed that he thinks is too nice for him, and stares into a mirror.
“Mr. Keener?”
Harley jumps.
“...is that you, Jarvis?”
“It is indeed, Mr. Keener. An honor to make your acquaintance, Sir has told me so much about you.”
“Please tell me he didn’t tell you about the potato gun.”
“I can neither confirm nor deny.”
Harley grins up at where the voice emanates.
“Your presence is required for breakfast, if that is alright.”
“That’s...that’s fine.”
He’s not hungry, but Rhodey slides him a plate of toast and eggs.
“Try to eat as much as you can,” he says. “Tony can finish off the rest, if he ever comes down from his bed.”
Harley nods, nibbling on the toast.
“You want jam or anything? We have grape, and...only grape. This peach looks questionable.”
Harley snorts.
“I’m good. Thanks, though.”
“No problem.”
They eat in awkward but companionable silence, and finally Harley speaks.
“Tony said you’re on leave for three months.”
“I got lucky,” Rhodey says, grinning. “I get to stay here with you guys for longer than three weeks. A full guarantee, unless of aliens.”
“They’re that much of a concern?” Harley asks, eyebrows raised.
“Only at high levels,” Rhodey says, giving him a lazy wink. “You didn’t hear it from me.”
“If anything, you would hear it from me,” Tony says, wrapped up in a gaudily-patterned robe. “Hello dearest, hello little one.”
“I’m not little,” Harley grumbles.
“You are shorter than me, you are little.”
“For now. Doc said I’m supposed to be over six feet.”
“Hm, we’ll see,” Tony says. “But enough about that. We have to have a little chat.”
Harley’s heart leaps with anxiety. When adults talk about having a chat, or talking, it’s...well. It’s never a walk in the park. Or a jog for that matter, either.
“What about?”
“How we can help you.”
Harley sighs, burrowing deep in his seat.
“We have to talk about this?”
“Yeah, we do.”
Harley gets set up with a therapist who he’s not sure he likes yet, but so far she’s been pretty nice. A bit of a mess, because she comes into their second session late and with iced coffee.
“Oh shit, I should’ve asked you if you wanted something,” Joan says, fretting. “Um, hi Harley. How are we doing?”
“Um, fine? I guess? For someone who’s dealing with a lot of change?”
“Oh, that’s great to hear. Do you mind...?” She breathes for a minute. “There was a really cute girl in the elevator for the dentist office above me, and I had to avoid her so that I wouldn’t talk about things and ruin things, so I took the stairs. Do you mind if I just drink my coffee for a moment?”
“...knock yourself out.”
So they sit there for a few moments, while Joan catches her breath and Harley wonders if he can text her his coffee order later.
“Alright, let’s talk you, Harley.”
Therapy goes well. As well as it can go, honestly.
And Harley? Well, he settles.
And he notices things.
Rhodey is still with them, two months and three weeks in. This is his last week, and Tony is miserable although he won’t say anything.
Harley notices how Tony will automatically move closer to Rhodey, and Rhodey welcomes him into his space as if it’s the most natural thing in the world.
They bicker at each other, but Rhodey slides scrambled eggs onto Tony’s plate as he argues, and Tony leans over and grabs the coffee mug that Rhodey favors.
Apparently, they’re not together.
This leaves Harley very confused.
Tony gets all flustered and in denial when he asks about it.
“Why would...why would he...why would he be with me?” Tony asks, moving around the kitchen. “He has more to life than that. Now come on, get your shopping list together, kiddo. I’m not gonna hear you complain for another week that we didn’t get your pumpkin-carving-coffee-creamer-whatever.”
“It’s pumpkin spice, and you would know that because you pretend like you don’t use it.”
“We’ll get two bottles this time,” Rhodey says, only coming in on the tail-end of the conversation. “Tony, babe, remember to get the provolone slices when we’re there for the deli sandwiches.”
“Got it, honey.”
Harley stares.
They’re so...domestic.
Harley hasn’t seen that often. Certainly didn’t see it with his parents before his dad left, and his mother...she didn’t get to have that with anyone else afterwards. And his sister, oh god-
“Kiddo, you okay?” Rhodey asks. His hand is on Harley’s shoulder, eyes full of concern. “Do you wanna talk about it?”
“Just...just thinking about my mom. And my sister.”
Rhodey brings him into a hug.
Harley breathes in and out for a moment, absorbing the clean smell of Rhodey’s shirt and focusing on the touch.
“Okay. Okay. I’ll be fine. Let’s go, before Tony gets to choose the car and we have to fit fifteen bags into a Maserati.”
“Then we’ll have to leave you at the store,” Rhodey teases. “Let’s see if we can get a rational car.”
-
Grocery shopping is...it’s nice. It’s one of Harley’s favorite things to do, as boring and uninteresting as that may be.
He mostly just likes watching Tony and Rhodey do it. It’s entertainment, and they’re so practiced together.
Harley isn’t sure if his mom and his sister are still looking on, but he always gets their favorite snacks, just in case. He puts a bag of hot fries and a carton of strawberries into the cart, and then he grins as he finds Tony and Rhodey still arguing over whether or not they should get two bundles of green onions for the Wednesday dinner or not.
“Come on dad,” Harley says, throwing the extra bundle into the cart. “It’ll be good, and we can probably make some sort of soup garnish for the end.”
He moves the cart, and he doesn’t even see how Tony and Rhodey stare after him.
“So obviously, I’m dad,” Tony says. “That’s me.”
“Or is it?” Rhodey asks, faking suspicion. “We don’t know until a full investigation is launched.”
“Oh full investigation my ass,” Tony says. “Come on, before he leaves us in the dust and ends up getting far too many packages of candy.”
“Like you minded, heathen.”
Tony pushes off the grocery cart, and Rhodey has to smile for a moment.
He’s going to miss this. He only has a few days left, and then he’s back and he’s alone, and he’s not alone, but he...
Rhodey always misses Tony. He’s tried to convince himself over the years that it’s just what best friends do, but he doesn’t think that best friends think of each other in the way that he thinks of Tony.
And now there’s Harley.
Harley, who is so much like Tony, and so good. He smiles, and he jokes, and Rhodey now can’t imagine life without him.
He doesn’t want to miss out on a thing, honestly. They’ve already joked about teaching him to drive in New York traffic.
And he wants to come home. He has his own place in New York, honest to god doesn’t know why he pays rent on it since Tony usually has him stay over anyways. He should sub-let or rent it or sell it. That’d be common sense.
-
Dinner goes well. Both Rhodey and Harley have a good rhythm in the kitchen, even with Harley’s questionable music taste and Rhodey’s inability to follow a recipe.
“People who follow recipes are chumps,” Rhodey says, dumping more garlic powder into the mixture. “Never follow a recipe.”
“We can call your mother and ask about the blueberry crumble incident of 1997,” Tony says innocently. “If you want to rehash how well that advice went for you. I recall a nearly-burned-down-house?”
Rhodey scowls, turning to Harley.
“Don’t listen to a word this man has ever said, he is an unlovable scamp.”
“Oh really?” Harley says. “Seems to suit you just fine, right?”
Rhodey momentarily pauses, and then grins.
“I suppose you’re right.”
All too right.
They eat dinner, and Tony as well as Rhodey make no mention of what’s going to happen come Saturday morning.
At least, until Harley does, because Harley does things like ask questions.
“So. When are you going for your next mission?” Harley asks. “And where?”
“Classified, and seven a.m. bright and early Saturday morning,” Rhodey states. “You gonna get out of bed in time to see me off?”
“Mm, we’ll think about it,” Tony says, biting into the pasta. “The beds are awfully comfy...”
“Aw shut up,” Rhodey whines. “Just for that, I get to choose the movie, and I’m choosing the not-movie. I’m choosing the BBC Pride and Prejudice.”
“You suck,” Tony groans. “If you weren’t a gorgeous man, I would have kicked you out decades earlier.”
“You make us sound ancient.”
“That’s because you two geezers are,” Harley says, taking his dish to the sink. “Come on, I totally dibs on getting the mint candies.”
“Absolutely not, you stole them all last, at least let us portion them out,” Tony says.
“Do we not live as a family? Can we no longer share things?” Harley cries out dramatically, draping his body across the couch. “Am I reduced to nothing but a pretty face?”
“I don’t know where you get your dramatics from,” Rhodey deadpans. “Truly, I don’t.”
Harley pokes his tongue out, and gestures for them to come over.
“We can wash dishes later, we need to see if Mr. Darcy comes back,” Harley says.
“You know he does,” Tony says, looking over at Rhodey. “He always will.”
It means...something. They’re not sure what, and they’re not going to ask each other while Harley is busy commandeering the couch and wiggling his way into getting the best blanket.
Tony on one side, Rhodey on the other, although the latter is busy popping popcorn and thinking.
He doesn’t even really want to go. He signed up for this tour, and he wasn’t honestly thinking it was going to be his last, but with Harley now, and with how life is going...would it be a bad thing?
Tony’s always wanted him to do at least consulting work for SI, and he could semi-retire comfortably...
“Honey-darling!” Tony calls, “the ETA on popcorn? I’m getting desperate!”
Harley sends Tony a sneaky look, and looks back towards the movie.
“You should remind Rhodey to get chocolate chips,” Harley says. “You know he likes them.”
“Of course I know that, how do you know that?”
“You usually get the popcorn,” Harley says with a shrug. “I know what you know about him. And you know a lot, don’t you?”
“I...I suppose,” Tony says, getting up.
Harley settles into his spot on the couch.
Tony comes up to Rhodey.
“Remember your chocolate chips,” Tony says.
Rhodey looks surprised.
“I thought you hated how sticky they got your hands.”
“That’s what napkins were invented for,” he says with a laugh. “I’ve been dealing with your chocolate chips for years, haven’t I?”
“I guess,” Rhodey says. “Just like I’ve been dealing with the fact that you pretend like you don’t like it, but you steal all of it.”
“Lies and slander, dearest,” Tony says, and Rhodey grins smoothly.
“Get back to the kid, sweetheart. I’ll be there when all of this is done.”
And it sounds so goddamned domestic. As if it’s real, as if they’ve been doing this song and dance for years. And they have, but it’s never been...
It’s never been real. Sure, they’ve waited on each other when Rhodey leaves or Tony travels, and they fall in together in a nice and easy rhythm.
But Tony...he’s a Stark. He needs a good reputation, and while most wouldn’t say his reputation is exactly good, there’s a lot that the public can forgive. Rhodey is not part of that.
Tony thinks that Rhodey deserves someone better. He knows it, knows it in the way that Rhodey smiles and it’s the best damned thing he’s ever seen, knows it in the way how his eyes track people who need help the most.
Harley knows virtually none of this. The only thing he knows is that his guardians are the stupidest people on the planet, and now he has a side project besides school and by god it’ll be fun.
But first, Rhodey is being sent off. Tony’s hands are wandering all over the place, as Harley’s noticed they do when he’s nervous. His do the same. Tony is talking about everything and joking about changes, and Rhodey smiles and nods and they both know what is going to happen.
Harley, for his part, mostly just tries not to doze off because it’s too early for any of this but also he wants to remember this.
Rhodey will be gone for one month and three weeks. According to Tony, this isn’t the longest he’s ever been away, but usually he’s not gone for this long. The older he gets, the shorter the missions or projects get. But they need his expertise with rookies.
Tony, for his part, has packed about three extra bags for Rhodey under the guise of them being “goodie bags” or the army to peruse after Rhodey.
“I won’t need all of these fancy pieces,” Rhodey says, rolling his eyes. “I’m not even leaving the US this time, cupcake.”
“You saying you can’t be in danger when you’re here?” Tony asks, raising an eyebrow.
“Take the stuff dad,” Harley says exasperated.
“Ha!” Rhodey teases. “So I’m dad!”
“You both are,” Harley says. “You’re both dad.”
They grin at each other, at least until Tony furrows his brow.
“Then how will we know which one you’re talking to?”
“I’ll come up with a different name then,” Harley says. “I don’t know. Let’s not talk about this while you’re supposed to be boarding a jet.”
Rhodey shrugs, leaning in for a hug from Harley, and facing Tony. There’s something in his eyes.
“Stay safe,” Tony says. “Promise me that.”
“I don’t make promises,” Rhodey says, a smile playing at his lips.
“For anyone else,” Tony finishes, grinning. He brings him into a hug, probably holding on for a touch longer than necessary. But he’s leaving, so you can’t fault him for it.
Harley is smiling to himself as Rhodey whispers something in Tony’s ear, which causes him to widen his eyes in delight.
“Seriously? You’re serious.”
“As a heart attack.”
Tony cheers for a moment, before they hear a shout across the tarmac. Rhodey gives a lazy salute.
“Until one month and three weeks.”
“Until then, nerd,” Harley shouts.
Tony blows a kiss, and Rhodey “catches” it and puts it in his pocket.
Harley sends Tony a look as they’re driving home.
“So. What did Rhodey whisper in your ear?”
“He’s going to move in,” Tony says, grinning.
“He doesn’t actually live at our home?” Harley asks, absolutely flabbergasted. “There’s no fucking way-”
“Language!”
“You said ‘shit’ during breakfast, if anything this is just leveling the playing field-”
“Don’t care, you’re a small child. What would the public say if they knew I was teaching my boy curse words?” Tony says dramatically.
“They’d probably not be surprised,” Harley answers. “Didn’t you tell the paparazzi to ‘get fucked’ when they ambushed our dinner last month?”
“Not the point.”
“Or is it?”
“You’re detracting from the fact that you get to help me get rid of all of Rhodey’s ugly furniture in his apartment.”
“Seriously?” Harley whines. “No, I’m...doing something.”
“Doing what? Eating hot fries on my couch and getting it stained with spicy cheese dust?”
“...no.”
“Hm, thought so. You’re coming with me.”
Rhodey isn’t expecting to miss home as fiercely as he does this time around. He’s irritable, but he finds comfort in talking with some of the other members of the crew about kids.
“Didn’t know you had a kid,” Hicks mentions. “When did that happen?”
“About six months ago,” Rhodey answers. “Kid needed a guardian, Tony stepped up to the plate. He’s a real neat kid, really a genius. Just like Tony, in that way.”
“You live with Tony, finally?” Thompson asks. “Or do you still have that dinky bachelor pad?”
“I’m selling it,” Rhodey said. “I told Tony I’d help out with Harley, and that’s what I’m doing. Figure since I’m always over there anyways, might as well move in.”
“I’m surprised you didn’t move in sooner, what with you and Stark anyways,” Thompson remarks.
“What do you mean?” Rhodey asks.
“You’re...not together?”
Rhodey looks away, a bit sheepish.
“Uh...no. We’re not.”
“But you wanna be,” Owens teases from her corner, eating her sandwich. “You stupid lover-boy.”
“Aw shut up,” Rhodey fires back. “As if you aren’t all over your husband when you get back.”
“But I, my dear old man, am married,” Owens says. “Put a ring on it! God knows you should’ve, like, eight years ago. Have you even asked him on a date?”
“He has other options, and a life outside of me,” Rhodey says.
“Bullshit,” the team crows, laughing. Rhodey just shakes his head, and bites into his sandwich.
He misses them.
-
Harley and Tony miss him equally as much. Tony is down in the dumps, sulking in his lab while Harley attempts to rebuild a projectile weapon.
“Do you have a permit for that?”
“Do I need one?” Harley asks. “I’m not gonna take it anywhere, except maybe when I’m in trouble.”
“When will you be in trouble?”
“...you’ll know.”
“Please tell me you’re not going to be on national news.”
“Just on regional, don’t worry.”
Tony sighs.
“Rhodey is going to want to witness that, so can you wait?”
“...potentially.”
Rhodey gets letters from the two of them. He thinks it’s Harley’s idea: after all, Tony would simply just hijack the internet feed and yell at people until Rhodey was called for.
He gets two pages from Tony with his elegant writing, the writing that almost never comes out because he remembers that Tony was taught how to write in blocky, all-caps letters that he was fond of now.
Harley writes in chicken-scratch that is barely legible, although he mentions that he’s been learning about lettering from Tony.
Tony misses you a lot, by the way, Harley writes, he’s been playing all of your favorite songs, and I didn’t know that you liked Three Dog Night. Interesting.
It’s not surprising that Tony knows and plays his music, not really. But Rhodey is still pleasantly surprised that even when he isn’t physically present, Tony keeps a piece of him around.
Similarly, Tony writes about Harley.
The kid misses you, honey. He’s been compiling a list of things he wants to do when you get back. You’re better at hugging him, by the way. Today (well, Wednesday for you) we had a good cry session. Wish you were there, but we made do with what we had. Why did you take your sweatshirt, by the way? Stupid man, now I can’t wear it and drape myself across couches like a scorned widow. Honestly...
Rhodey comes back on a Tuesday morning. Harley’s allowed to miss school for it, which he’s very happy about.
“That doesn’t mean you get to sleep in,” Tony says. “We’re picking him up at eight.”
“Why must I be punished for all time,” Harley moans. “Eight? Seriously? Doesn’t the army know that noon exists?”
“They made up the early rule because of me,” Tony jokes. “But I promise that Rhodey will most likely want an actual breakfast, which means we get diner breakfast.”
“Yes!” Harley says, pumping his fist. “Waking up early just became worth it.”
“Yeah sure, just look at the emails your teachers sent you about missing homework and be sure to text Peter and Ned about the classes you missed,” Tony says.
Harley nods, walking out of the kitchen before pausing and turning back.
“You should wear that Black Sabbath shirt that Rhodey likes tomorrow,” he says. “It’ll be nice for him to see.”
Tony raises an eyebrow.
“And since when did you know what Rhodey likes to see?”
“Since I was born with vision,” Harley deadpans. “He always picks that shirt out for you when you come back after a business meeting overseas.”
Waking up at eight a.m. is worth it for a hug from Rhodey. Honest to god, that man gives the best hugs Harley’s ever had, short of Abbie and mom.
Tony is asking a million questions a minute, and then telling Rhodey about the results of the apartment. A Stark Industries employee is renting it, and Tony managed to save some of the mugs, and chastised Rhodey for stealing a colander, apparently.
“It was our good one! Why did you leave it in your apartment?”
“I thought I stored it where we put the pans!” Rhodey defended. “How was I supposed to know that it was at that apartment?”
“Quit arguing and start moving,” Harley says. “We have breakfast to get to.”
“Our boy is growing,” Tony says, sighing. “Soon he’ll eat us out of house and home.”
“We live in a gigantic tower in New York, I think you’re gonna be fine,” Rhodey says. “Although let’s get on it before there’s too much of a wait.”
“It’s a Tuesday, darling,” Tony says. “No wait. And they know us.”
Harley enjoys witnessing breakfast. Basically because Tony and Rhodey fall into their respective rhythms as if no one had ever left. Rhodey is fighting about the hash browns, and Tony is reaching all the way across the table for the hot sauce.
Harley has honestly and truly missed them all together like this.
Even if Rhodey nabs a sausage from his plate.
“I’m the growing teen here!” Harley says, gesturing with his fork. “Why steal from your poor, innocent charge? Was it not enough to leave for a month and three weeks?”
“And three weeks! Honestly honey,” Tony says, distracting Harley enough to steal the other sausage off of his plate. “You should’ve been here sooner, we could’ve eaten more of these!”
“You both are criminals,” Harley says. “Criminals who I have to live with. This is unforgivable. I’ll waste away into nothing...”
Rhodey laughs, and he catches Tony’s eyes.
Yeah. It’s good to be back.
Living with Tony and Harley isn’t really an adjustment at all. Rhodey had barely used his apartment before, and now is no different. He just gets to decorate his room a little bit more, and contribute more to groceries.
He’s also around for more of Harley which is...interesting.
The kid knows something, that’s for sure.
He is also sneakily good at making sure that Tony and Rhodey get alone time, whether that be last-minute-ditching plans with Pepper or “forgetting” that he was supposed to be going to Ned’s for a video-game championship. (Harley was good at lying, but Tony and Rhodey have had years of practice.)
Rhodey has a sneaking suspicion that he knows why.
Harley isn’t a stupid boy, not by a long shot.
He’s caught on to Rhodey’s stares, the way that Tony and Rhodey have something, but neither really want to acknowledge.
To acknowledge means to know, and knowing is something that is far more terrifying than most people give it credit.
Harley eventually has help.
After all, he and Pepper didn’t just go their separate ways when he ditched his guardians to give them quality dates, and he didn’t just talk about video game strategy with Peter, Ned, and MJ.
He was planning. Figured it would fit with a life plan, honestly.
Pepper is quite potentially even more tired than he is, and has agreed to help set up a nice date.
She’s made deals she never expected to.
She owes the god of mischief a bottle of wine. It’s ridiculous.
Peter and Ned have been elected with getting the “aesthetic” right, and MJ has been “helpfully” suggesting where lights go.
“MJ, if I move them any more left they’ll fall off the building and become a hazard,” Harley grunts.
“Exactly. Nothing says romance like dangerous situations,” she says with a shrug. “But put them in the tree, and we can link the extension cord behind. It’ll look nice. All Pinterest-y and shit.”
“Why can’t you help and then joke?”
“I never joke. You just always like my second plan better.”
“I don’t know whether to be terrified or alarmed!” Peter calls from his spot of building the cheese-board.
“They’re synonyms,” MJ says. “When are we going home, by the way?”
“As soon as Rhodey finishes up with his afternoon run, and Tony realizes that dinner is still a social concept,” Harley says.
“Time, then?”
“...five-thirty.”
“Perfect.”
“I’ll call my mom about the pizza,” Ned says. “We still thinking one pepperoni and one veggie?”
“Sounds great,” Peter says. “What movie are we watching tonight?”
“Twitter polls said Clueless over the Leonardo DiCaprio version of Romeo and Juliet. Sorry Ned, looks like your choice will be next week.”
“My heart hurts, but it understands,” Ned says sagely, placing a hand over his heart. “I will see Mercutio soon enough.”
Tony was not aware that their rooftop had lights. He doesn’t remember putting them there.
He was also pretty sure that Harley had a question about the flight patterns of birds in relation to GPS technology in drones, and it was weird that it was outside, but-
There’s a cheese-board. And now he gets why Pepper made him change shirts. He knew that his shirt wasn’t ugly!
Rhodey is standing across the way, looking at the dinner set-up and the tealights flickering gently from their placement.
“Is this...did you do this, Tony?”
“I don’t have this much of a creative eye,” Tony says, eyeing the intimate table placement. “Maybe Pepper?”
“She doesn’t do lights...”
“Harley,” they both say in unison, laughing.
There’s a note at the table, written in the same near-illegible handwriting:
Either get together or I get to make a Twitter thread. Your call.
Tony snorts as he looks at the placement of everything.
“Well...it’d be a shame for it to go to waste.”
“Is that you saying you’re flattered, but no thanks?” Rhodey asks.
“No,” Tony says, looking at Rhodey. “It’s not that at all, if you-”
“You mean-?”
“What? Is this what’s happening?” Tony asks. His breathing speeds up. He’s quite embarrassed that he can feel his cheeks turn red. He thought he got rid of blushing in ‘96.
“I...damn it, Tony. I love you!”
Tony stares. He just stares, and for a moment it doesn’t process, until it does. He flings himself into Rhodey’s arms, and laughs.
“Holy shit, that’s a relief.”
Rhodey spins him around, taking a brief moment to kiss him gently on the cheek.
“Oh, you owe me more than that, soldier.”
“I think I’m a little bit higher ranked than that.”
“Oh, and what would that be?”
“Boyfriend, for one.”
Tony rolls his eyes.
“We’re, like, a minute into this and you’re already the cheesy one.”
“Well one of us has to be, and I’m going to beat you to the punch.”
Harley gets one text at four in the morning from Rhodey:
no twitter thread for us. and you need to figure out what to call tony because i’m claiming “dad.”
Harley cackles, grinning.
got it, he’ll be pops then.
Tony texts Harley a minute later.
if you call me ‘pops’ there will be a mutiny! a mutiny!!
Harley laughs again, tapping a message back.
wotever.
Tony doesn’t respond, choosing instead to roll back over and sling an arm around his significant other. It’s too early to be nitpicking your kid’s grammar.

The JSA and Masks
Comic Issues Involved: The Flash vol 2 161, Pat McGreal, Paul Pelletier
Content Warnings: Drug and Substance Addiction Mentions
Summary: An analysis of a conversation that happened at Jay Garrick's Honeymoon which is talked about here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Transcript of Dialogue that is analyzed:
Alan Scott (Green Lantern): ... So Jay, I know there aren't supposed to be any secrets between a man and his wife, but... Al Pratt (Atom): Joan's known who the Flash really is for some time now, hasn't she? Jay Garrick (Flash): Well, yeah. sure. Ted Grant (Wildcat): I dunno, it seems like a... a violation of the who secret identity concept. Jay Garrick (Flash): Are you telling me that none of you have ever considered letting your girlfriends in on the game? Alan Scott (GL): Uh... no... Ted Grant (WC): [guilty facial expression] Al Pratt (Atom): I guess I thought about telling Mary once. Rex Tyler (Hourman): Of course not. Charles McNider (Dr. Mid-Nite): Not me. Jay Garrick (Flash): Sheesh. Sometimes I think guys in our line of work suffer from arrested development. Alan Scott (GL): Hmm. Jay Garrick (Flash): Oh Heck. You've probably got the right idea. Anyway, all I wear is a helmet and Joan's no dummy. She figured it out long before I ever told her
Let's break this down systematically now- Charles McNider never married his sweetheart (fans thought he was gay but no he just really wanted to protect her from his nightlife and she ended up murdered anyways so how'd that work for him?). Alan has had 2 divorces generally. With DC Pride, his lover Jimmy died in the same train crash that led to him making his lantern and that's a whole separate thing. Alan has 2 kids he didn't know about until they were adults since they were given up for adoption by his ex-wife who was also a supervillain (what is it with Gotham Heroes and marrying villains?). Ted Grant never canonically married, he had a son with a girlfriend, and after his identity was discovered his son was kidnapped and was killed in experimentation by his nemesis. He has another son that he didn't know about until Tom was an adult. Rex stayed married to Wendi but they had a very strained marriage due to the fact that miraclo was addictive and he was very much addicted to the drug. Rex's son eventually would go on to be the second Hourman. Al Pratt married his girlfriend but she was murdered when she was pregnant with their son because his identity was compromised.
At this point in time, none of that has happened. They're all in the prime of their crime-fighting careers. Nothing too major has rocked the boat.
Alan Scott was a closeted gay man who ended up having two failed marriages while being a crime fighter and before he started his career, he lost his lover to a tragedy. To Alan, ever talking about who he really is would be a giant risk because it was the 40s and he was a newsman. He had to stay respectable and he was under scrutiny.
Ted Grant was the Heavy Weight Boxing champion, a known fighter. But he also had a scandal due to other managers paying boxers to throw fights which lead to an innocent man's death causing him to put the costume on in the first place. His name was cleared but he kept suiting up because Alan inspired him. He would already be in the spotlight but he would also be safer to share his identity because he's a known fighter that people knew better than to mess with.
Rex Tyler ran a company and developed miraclo- a drug that gave him super strength for an hour that he could only take once every twenty-four hours. He had an okay reason to not say anything about his identity to try to protect Wendi because he was just some chemist.
Charles McNider was a respected doctor who was blinded in an accident- he could have told his long-time love interest his secret identity because who would ever make the connection between a blind man and a crime fighter? She would have been the safest.
Al Pratt was a college student at the time, he's the youngest person in the room and he admitted to thinking about telling his secret identity to his girlfriend. He also for the longest time didn't have any powers.
This is all very important so hang in there.
Jay unintentionally strikes a nerve because Joan knows who he is. These are all men that Jay trusts with his life and to an extent, Joan's life. They all know his identity, he knows their identities. More importantly, they're friends, and he's genuinely surprised that he's the only one who trusts the person he loves enough with his secret identity. Alan is clearly uncomfortable (on several levels), as are Ted and Charles. Rex and Al handle it the best and drop it, but in the panels, you can see that Ted, Alan, and Charles are the most uncomfortable with what they've just discussed, with Alan actually voicing it with an uncomfortable Hmm. Jay salvages the night by admitting that Alan (and thus everyone else) may be right about keeping their identities secrets but he also admits that Joan figured it out, which likely leaves the others wondering if their girlfriends may have figured out their identities already as well.
Jay Garrick because of his honesty with Joan has the healthiest marriage out of all of the JSA, even when his identity becomes public knowledge, there's never an attempt on Joan's life because she's his wife. And everyone else for one reason or another due to the lack of honesty has either a strained relationship or loses the ones they loved because they didn't share their secret identities.
In other comics, the point is brought up that they wear the masks to protect their loved ones yet their loved ones end up endangered because of the secrets of the masks.
Their reactions to Jay not keeping any secrets from Joan when contrasted with the fact that his honesty meant the longest lasting and healthiest marriage whereas their secrets while wise in the short term ultimately ended in tragedy for all of the other men present is something I think about a lot.

UH tell us about frankies family,, also maybe mia's idk
Frankie's family:
Her and her little sister are adopted
One of her moms, Cindy, is a news reporter, and she works with Sissy's step-dad
She's a very kind, but strict woman, and she just wants the best for her kids
But when can, she spoils them toys and candy when they do good in school and what not, and if they do really well, and didn't get detention for the entire week, she took them to Teddie's family diner!
She was an orphan too and was in foster care until she turned 17, and she didn't want any other kid to suffer like she did, so she adopted Frankie and her siblings
Her other mom, Joan, is unemployed lol
Joan is a recovering drug addict, and gave up her son, Franklin, for adoption because she just couldn't take care of him
But when she was able to recover enough, she tried to track him down, and when she finally did find him, she was met with Cindy
Although, she was pushed out the first few times she tried to come back into her son's life, she kept trying, and Cindy eventually let her stay with them after finding out abt the cockroach nest Joan called an apartment
And obviously, they eventually got together
Franklin was hesitant to let someone who just abandoned him like that in his life, but Frankie was over the moon to get a 2nd mom
Speaking of Franklin, he was a real troublemaker and constantly picked on his little sisters
He got in detention alot, and his teachers hated him
He knew Mike, but they never really spoke unless they had to do something together for class
He kinda blames himself for Frankie's "disappearance" because HE was the one who dared her to rip apart Penny Poodle/Mangle after she told him how upset she was over Foxanne being replaced
Now onto Francesca, she was only 4 when Frankie "disappeared"
She was a real sweetheart and everyone she's ever met thought she was the cutest thing in the world
She was kinda scared of the animatronics, but she would always go with Frankie to see Foxanne, even when she made her go a little too up close
Mia's family:
Her dad, Peter, was family doctor and her mom, Gloria, was a school librarian
Gloria was a very sweet woman, she had a very colorful way of seeing the world. She was a social butterfly and was basically friends with every other mom in the neighborhood.
She was born in Mexico, tho her father was from colombia. Her family immigrated to America in the 50s when she was 10, and she met Peter in college. Even tho she was raised in America for 25 years of her life, she always speaks in Spanish, unless she needs to use English
Peter was a very cheerful man himself, tho he had a slightly less colorful way of thinking. He kept to himself most of the time, but was super eager to talk to his patients, and was best friends with Phil, Sissy's dad(he didn't believe his ex-wife's words for a minute)
Her parents were super pushy about their kids' grades and such, but they only wanted the best for their kids
They weren't abusive, not by any definition of the word, but they were quite strict
But they always listened to their kids if they had a problem or needed help, or they just couldn't do what they wanted
Now onto her oldest sister, Paula. She was more cynical than the rest of her family, but was cheery some of the time
She was very close to Mia. She'd help her study and let her play her guitar, and they'd talk for hours abt whatever niche topic Mia was interested in at the time
She actually played Teddie! Before her parents forced her to quit after one of William's spring-lock incidents landed him in the hospital
Next is Mia's older and only brother, Diego. He looked up to Paula alot, and was trying to mimic her, but he just came off as the average edgy 13 y.o
He didn't really get along with Mia and thought she was "laaaamee"
He was captain of his schools soccer team and was "friends" with Evelyn(they'd just sit together at lunch and hang out when all of her other friends were busy)
Next is Isabela, she's only a year older than Mia but tries to act like "the awesome big sister" to her and their 2 younger sisters
She took piano lessons, and violin lessons with Mia, she made her parents sign her up for the violin lessons just so she could spend more time with Mia
She was very cheerful and smart, and got good grades in school but she was TERRIBLE at any physical activities, she'd usually just sit on the bleachers with Mike during PE (they'd talk abt stuff that interested them both, but they weren't really friends)
Next up is Luanne, your typical hyperactive 6 y.o, very cheerful and would constantly tries to get her older siblings to stop studying just to play with her
She was very dumb, to put it bluntly, unlike her siblings
Which lead her to feeling neglected by her parents bc of how much they praised her siblings for getting good grades
She absolutely adored Teddie and friends, and would make Paula take her with her to work and would not stop talking abt it with Mia, and how she'd love to be friends with Bonna
And finally, there's little Julia, she was only 2 when Mia 'disappeared"
Mia was usually babysit her bc she was the only responsible one of her siblings
She's a toddler, not much else to say

I love lists, so for posterity. 10 favorite TV characters one per show.
1. Neal Cassidy (OUaT)- Unlike the video game list where I couldn’t really rank I can say that he is my #1 favorite TV character. I will never be over the injustice done to the one character that had the right sense of emotional scale on OUaT. His simultaneous journey of being someone to find forgiveness (for his father) and need forgiveness (from Emma) was heartfelt. Still hurts to think about all of the potential wasted. Bonus points because MRJ smiling means automatic endorphins.
2. Keyleth (Critical Role)- Technically not a tv show but has to be included. Pushing past an anxiety that isn’t played off as quirky plus imposter syndrome to do what you know is the right thing- I’ve never related more to a character. It’s about the consistency of growth but not fundamentally changing who you are. So hard to choose just one from CR though. Vax, Beau, and Veth are my other top tier favorites. Really every PC on CR is a 10/10 for me -except Scanlan.
3. Sherlock and Joan (Elementary) - Look it’s cheating but I cannot separate them. They’ve made me realize that sometimes when I ship something it’s not about actually wanting romance. Usually romance is the only way TV shows will let characters prioritize each other first and stay together forever even after the finale of the show. When the show ended and they affirmed they were life partners I didn’t care it wasn’t romantic. The important thing is that it was one Watson and one Holmes. Also I want Lucy Lui to please adopt me and teach me her ways.
4. Michael (The Good Place)- The whole Soul Squad actually belongs here but I chose Michael as representatation for the season 1 and season 4 ending and the growth in between. Also because the scene where he kicked a puppy into the sun. This show is magical and the closest I’ve seen to a perfect show. It’s through actors like Ted Danson and characters like Michael that it was possible.
5. Sark (Alias)- A charismatic villain in it for himself and the money and that never changes. Sometimes a girl just wants to see David Anders put on a fake British accent. Sometimes I wish more shows allowed for this instead of trying to redeem every villain that’s hot. He’s a villain standard I hold other characters against.
6. Peter Burke (White Collar)- Neal has the dreamy eyes but Peter Burke is everything I’d ever want in a man. He’s part of the healthiest married relationship on TV, he’s actually as smart and competent as the criminals he goes after, and is a great father figure to a man who’s not that much younger than him. Chef’s kiss what more could you want.
7. Gus (Psych)- Not a ton to say except he’s funny and Dulé Hill is an actor I could watch forever. Playing the “straight man” most of the time is hard and I don’t think I’ve seen it done better than in Gus.
8. Korra (Legend of Korra) - An amazing character stuck in a just ok show for the most part (we don’t talk about season 2). I like that she was allowed to be brash and hot headed and make mistakes that had consequences. I think her growth throught seasons 1,3,and 4 was done well. I love her design. My biggest wish was that she and her and the Krew acted more like an actual friend group and that the seasonal plots had been more cohesive.
9. Leo Wyatt (Charmed) - The 100% nostalgia fueled pick. Can’t help that I still have a crush on him- he gave up his supernatural powers for her isn’t that the dream? Looking back I can see he was barely his own character and honestly was a bad boyfriend/husband at times. None of this stops me from loving him and his relationship with Piper (my favorite of the sisters).
10. Seol Ji-hyun ( Time) - I watch way too many Kdramas to not include one character. Honestly I don’t watch a ton of melodramas mostly I stick to ro-coms because I’m looking for fun. Ji-Hyun is a girl seeking revenge/justice for the death of her sister under suspicious circumstances. She gives up a lot to get it. What I like best is the balance of what she was and wasn’t willing to do in order-give up in order to achieve her goals. I don’t even have to imagine the difference it would be as an American show- I’ve seen Revenge. I’m sure some people think she was annoying at points but I felt her emotions and actions always tracked in where she drew the line. I really really felt the frustration at rich people not being held accountable for pretty much anything. The main male character, Cheon Soo-Ho, one of those said rich people, had an amazing but tragic story that complemented her journey. I

Food: Sushi? Pizza? Steak? Not picky.
Animal: Dogs. Definitely dogs.

Zodiac Sign: Taurus – smart, ambitious, stubborn, hardworking, inflexible, reliable, pleasure-seeking, resilient, blunt.
MBTI: ENTJ – The Commander. While Johnny wavers between introverted and extroverted, this personality type fits him best. “People with this personality type embody the gifts of charisma and confidence, and project authority. Commanders can be dominant and relentless. They are true powerhouses. They cultivate an image of being larger than life – and often enough, they are.” Strengths: strategic, efficient, strong-willed, inspiring. Weaknesses: stubborn, impatient, ruthless.
Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw – intelligence, knowledge, curiosity, creativity, and wit.
Moral Alignment: Lawful Neutral: The Judge – law, tradition, order, organization, reliable, honorable. However, Johnny would not fit with the weaknesses; he is very appreciative of diversity and freedom.
Primary Vice: Pride – excessive belief in one’s own abilities; also known as Vanity.
Primary Virtue: Diligence – no matter what stands in their way, one with this virtue will accomplish their goals + stay true to their core beliefs.
Element: Earth – real, methodical, physical, bull-headed. Though Johnny has characteristics of Fire (natural leader, dynamic) and Air (clever, free-thinking), and he has wished to garner more Water characteristics, Earth fits him best.

Chapter 2
“I was thirsting for knowledge and he had a car. I was caught somewhere between a woman and a child.” ~Deanna Carter _
This was a dumbass idea.  Why did you let Sam talk you into this party?  You were currently looking in the mirror trying to decide if you should change for the fourth time.  As you have finally decided to change shirts again you hear a honk from outside.  You peek out the window to see Dean’s 67 Impala that his dad had gifted him on his 16th birthday.  Well, looks like you are wearing this.  You take one last look at your jeans, Joan Jett t-shirt, and light sweater deciding it would have to do.  You run downstairs and grab your purse.
“You on your way out”, your mom asked.
“Yes ma'am.  I should be back by 11ish”, you said smiling at her.
“Just be careful.  You keep those boys in line and have fun.  Happy birthday baby”, she said hugging you. “If you want to be later tonight you can.  You are 18 now.”
“Thanks, but I don't imagine we will want to be out that late”, you told her pulling back.  “Love you”, you tell her as you open the door and rush down the steps to get in the car.  You slide in the back seat.
“Hey guys.  Sorry it took so long”, you said as Dean turned to look at you.
“No problem sweetheart.  Happy birthday (Y/N/N) I got you a little something”, he said and handed you a perfectly wrapped package.
“Thank you!  Did your mom wrap this”, you asked suspiciously?
“I am insulted that you would think that”, he said with a smirk.
“So... yes”, you laugh as you open it.  Inside was a CD that had the words “COLLEGE PLAYLIST” on it.  “What’s this”, you asked looking up at him.
“It is all the music you should play on your way to college.  I think you will love it.  And if not, you have no taste”, he winked as he turned around and put the car in reverse.
“Here’s my gift.  Happy birthday (Y/N/N)”, Sam said handing you another wrapped gift.  You opened it to find a book on musicians.
“Thanks guys!  I love them”, you said smiling at Sam.  “So, this party... should be fun”, you said nervously.
“Yeah.  Sammy said you both wanted to cut loose.  I figure we will probably leave about 11.  So, don’t go wandering too far out into Bobby’s woods tonight.  And please don’t get so far gone I have to carry you out”, Dean said.
“Right!  Because me and (Y/N) have never had to carry you in and deal with you being so out of it you started hitting on the car”, Sam scoffed.
“In all fairness and in his defense, I've seen him come on to the car sober”, you said with a straight face.  Sam snickered while Dean gave you his best bitch face.
“Ha-ha!  You are both hilarious”, he deadpanned.  “But I’m serious.  I don’t want to have to explain to the parents that I let ya’ll get plastered underage.  So, keep it cool and we will be fine”, he said.  He turned up AC/DC while Sam just rolled his eyes.
You sat back and just listened as you watched the familiar scenery out to Bobby Singers place.  Bobby owned a junkyard with about 50 acres out of town.  Bobby and John were best friends so you all saw a lot of him.  He was an old crank but had a heart of gold.  He was like a second dad to the boys and you.  He had a soft spot for you.  He had lost his first wife years ago.  She had died trying to deliver their daughter.  Neither one had made it.  So, he had drank and turned into a bitter old man.  That was until he was around all you kids.  Bobby would have made an amazing dad.
Whenever Sam and John fought and Sam needed to cool off, he would go to Bobby’s for a few days.  Bobby, rough around the edges Bobby, always had an extra bed and a wealth of knowledge on why you were being an idgit.  But not once did he send someone home before they were ready.  He would let whomever it was parents know they were safe and he had them until they were ready to come home.  You had all spent your fair share of nights at Bobby’s.  He was always so patient.  You had only seen him truly angry once.
You had been about 12 and you and Sam had hitched a ride out to his place because Dean was there.  John had been a drinker back then and normally harmless.  This time however he had got drunk and when Dean had got between him and Sam (because Sam hadn’t finished cleaning out the garage) John took a swing at 16-year-old Dean and broke his nose.  Dean just told Sammy to go to your house and stay there until their mom got home from work.  Dean then packed a bag and went to Bobby’s.
Your parents had been out when Sam had come over shaking and crying.  He brokenly told you what happened as you hugged him.  John had always had a temper but that was the first time he had ever laid a hand on either of them.  You and Sam had both heard the Impala start up and watched Dean drive away.  You both figured he was going to Bobby’s. So ya’ll made sure John wasn’t outside before you ran down the road towards Bobby’s.  When you both had gotten far enough down you had started walking.  You had been at it about 30 minutes when Crazy Ash pulled over to give you a ride.  He was a friend of Dean’s and a good guy so you knew you were both safe.
Once you had gotten to Bobby’s and saw Dean you wished you hadn’t.  Dean sat at Bobby’s table holding a rag up to his nose and he was crying.  You had never seen Dean cry.  He was so tough, so strong, and fearless.  But there he sat in tears while Bobby sat listening to what happened.  Dean had looked up and seen you and Sam and immediately wiped his eyes.
“What are you doing here”, he asked still holding his nose.  Sam had flown across the room to hug him.  Dean caught him and held on both of them with tears streaming down their face.  You didn’t know what to do so you went to sit on Bobby’s front porch steps.  You had just sat when John pulled up in his truck.  He got out looking pissed.  You got up and started backing up when the door opened behind you and Bobby stepped out.
“Go inside sweetheart”, he said never taking his eyes off of John.  You ran in and went to the living room window where Sam was watching his dad walk up to Bobby.
“WHERE IS HE BOBBY?!  I WANT DEAN OUT HERE AND HOME NOW!  SAM TOO”, he screamed in Bobby’s face.  You had never seen that look on either of their faces before.  John full of drunken rage and Bobby so full of anger that his face was red.  The blow to Johns face was still surprising.
“Those boys aren’t going anywhere unless it is with Mary and ONLY if she kicks your sorry ass out first!  How dare you lay a hand on either one of them?  I’m gonna give you 10 seconds to get the Hell off my land before I shoot you for trespassing!  You need to get your shit together John and now!  Before you don’t have anyone left”, Bobby yelled hauling John up and shoving him into his truck.  Bobby had come back in and called Mary who showed up about 2 hours later.  Having first called Sheriff Mills to file a report and then gone home and thrown John out.
You had never seen her like that.  To you, that night, she was Wonder Woman.  She was fierce.  She took charge and stormed in ready to defend her cubs from the world.  You and the boys had been piled up on Bobby’s couch after he called your parents to let them know where you were and he would drive you home later.  The boys had picked some action movie to watch and Bobby made dinner.  She came in spotted you all.  Sam ran straight to her for a hug.  Dean stood up and she never looked away from his face.
“Dean, honey”, she said softly after she let go of Sam.  Tears filled her eyes as she walked over to her oldest son and gently touched his face.  Then her eyes hardened.
“He won’t touch you again.  He has moved out.  I’m so sorry baby.  But I promise this will never happen again”, she said looking him in the eye before hugging him tightly.  She had driven you all home that night.  John had, had a long hard road ahead of him.  Mary hadn’t let him near any of them until he started anger management classes and going to AA.  It was a year before he was allowed to come home.  But he was different.  You could tell he was a man who loved his family.  He was still a hard ass and had a temper but he walked away far more than he engaged.  You hadn’t seen him have more than two beers in years and you knew he would rather die than ever lay a hand on any of them again.  You learned a lot that day all those years ago.  You learned how fierce sweet Mary could be and how protective Bobby cold be when it came to their kids.
You finally saw Singers Salvage come into view.  Dean turned down the dirt path driving toward Bobby’s huge pond in the middle of the property.  Dean parked by a few other cars towards the woods.  The party was already in full swing.  Music was playing, a big bonfire was going, people were dancing, and everyone seemed to be having a good time.  You already felt out of place.
“Alright, you kids don’t do anything I wouldn’t do”, Dean said waving to a couple of his buddies and heading in their direction.
“Hey!  There is Tim and Mike.  Would you care if I go say hi?  I’ll be right back”, Sam said eagerly.
“Yeah it’s fine.  I’m gonna go find a seat by the pond”, you replied with a smile.
“Cool!  Meet you over there”, he said taking off.  You were left alone.  Completely out of your element.  You slowly started walking over towards the pond, nodding to a few people you knew as you went.  You were almost to the water when you tripped and bumped into someone.
“I’m so sorry!  Are you okay”, you asked as you grabbed a hold of them to steady you both?  You looked up to see Alex, Sheriff Mills adopted daughter.
“I’m fine.  Are you okay”, she asked also having grabbed onto you?
“Yeah, just clumsy”, you replied letting her go and straightening.  “I really am sorry”, you said again.
“You’re good.  How have you been?  I heard you got a full ride to Julliard.  Congratulations”, she said smiling.
“Thank you.  I did and I’ve been good.  Excited and nervous, but good.  What about you?  I heard you are going into nursing?  That’s pretty awesome.  Jody must be ecstatic”, you babbled.
“Yeah she is.  Anything that keeps me out of trouble makes her happy”, she grinned.  “Well, I’ll see you around (Y/N).  Good luck in New York”, she said with a smile.
“Thanks!  Good luck saving people”, you said with a small smile and a wave.  She walked away just as Sam walked up and handed you a whole bottle of wine.
“What’s this”, you asked raising an eyebrow?
“I don’t know some kind of wine.  I figured you would like it more than beer”, he said with a grin.  His eyes a little too bright.
“Have you already been drinking?  Dude, it’s been like ten minutes”, you said with a laugh.
“Mike handed me something and told me to chug.  Twice.  So, maybe a little”, he laughed.  “Are you okay or do you need me to stick around”, he asked glancing over at Time and Mike.
“Go, have fun.  I’m fine”, you said gesturing to your bottle.  “You have me all set”.
“Thanks (Y/N/N)!  Happy birthday!  If you need me, I won’t be far”, and with that he was gone again.  You smiled.  He deserved to have fun.  And he deserved whatever hangover he got for leaving you alone.  You chuckled and made your way to a quiet, dark spot by the pond.  You looked at the bottle.  Some cheap strawberry wine.  You sighed.  You wished you had just stayed home.
“Hey (Y/N/N).  Having fun”, you turned to see Dean sitting beside you.
“Sure.  I’ve got my wine.  Your brother ditched me.  What more could a girl ask for”, you said with a laugh.
“He ditched you?  You want me to kick his ass for you”, he asked looking around.
“Nah.  He’s having fun.  I’ve never seen him really cut loose.  I want him to enjoy himself”, you said.
“Not having a great birthday huh”, he asked grabbing your bottle looking at it.
“You know this really isn’t my thing.  I came for Sam”, you said.  He looked over at you and smiled.
“You are his best friend.  He loves you.  I’m not sure what next year will be like with you apart.  I kinda wonder if this isn’t him preparing himself for that.  And maybe preparing you a little too”, he said opening the wine and taking a drink.  You laughed as he made a face.
“I’m going to miss him.  And you.  I won’t have anyone to boss me around.  Or scare off guys for me.  I’ll be all alone.”
“If you need us you know you can call and we will come running”, he said passing you the bottle.  You looked at it before tipping it up.  It was sweet and tangy and went down easy.  It wasn’t very strong.  But for someone who didn’t drink it was plenty strong.
“I know you would.  I hope you know the same goes for you both”, you said passing the bottle back.  You and he sat by the pond for hours talking about the future.  He had given you the bottle at one point and you had drunk almost all of it and were feeling pretty good.
“Hey sweetheart, lets round up Sammy and head home”, he said standing and walking over to you. He reached down to pull you up and you grabbed his hand.  That’s when things went wrong.  He tugged on your arm and somehow slipped in the mud pulling you with him.  You landed on top of him and he had landed in the mud.  You were laughing, he as cursing, and you couldn't even get off of him, because you were laughing so hard. You looked down and Dean smiled up at you.  You finally calmed down enough to ask,
“Would you like me to get off of you?”
“I don’t know.  I could think of worse things than having a pretty girl laying on me”, he said. You looked into his eyes.  He put his hand o ur cheek ad leaned up and captured your lips in the sweetest kiss.  He tasted like the wine you had shared.  Everything about him overwhelmed your senses.  He smelled like the cologne you would always associate with him, like the outdoors, and always a little like oil from working on cars all day.  The earth moved, fireworks went off, and the stars aligned.  It was everything you had imagined kissing Dean Winchester would be and it was over too soon.  Dean leaned back and smiled softly.
“I really do need to get you and Sammy home”, he whispered. You blinked.  Was that it?  Was that all he could think about?  Your whole world just changed and he acted like it was no big deal.
“Oh, right!  Sorry”, you said quickly getting off of him and helping him up.  You tried not to let your feelings show on your face.  Which was made a little easier by the fact that he was covered in mud and you couldn’t help but giggle.
“Go ahead!  Laugh it up!  My jacket is ruined”, he grumbled but smiled.  You both started walking to find Sam.  You found him a few minutes later.  Close to the fire and way past tipsy.
“Come on Sammy.  We gotta get you home”, Dean said helping Sam stand and then having to support his weight.  “I told you to go easy tonight.”
“You’re bossy.  Ain’t he bossy (Y/N/N)?  Tell ‘im he’s bossy”, Sam slurred with a pout.  Dean rolled his eyes as you giggled.  You all got back to the car and Dean put Sam in the backseat since he was already out cold.  You got in the front and tried not to think about Dean kissing you.  The drive home was quiet.  Dean had the windows down and you felt the effects of the wine ease of a little.  Dean pulled into your driveway.  As you reached for the door handle Dean laid a hand on your arm.
“Make sure you drink a bottle of water and take two ibuprofen.  You won’t have a headache.  Happy birthday sweetheart.  I’ll see you tomorrow”, he said with a smile.  You nodded and thanked him.  You made your way inside; grateful your parents were already in bed.  You followed Dean’s instructions and made your way to your room and got ready for bed.  You wished you could get that kiss out of your mind.  But as you laid there and dozed off you knew you wouldn’t.  It was a dream come true.  You had kissed Dean Winchester.  You smiled softly as you fell asleep.  It was worth saving your first kiss for him.

@when-there-is-a-will @aseikh
Had an AU thought.
Before Ferris drives Halt out of Clonmel, Halt is married. Not to a Hibernian girl but a foreign princess who comes with money and connections, a Gallican. She’s not Halt’s first love, but she is one of his first friends. She’s powerful and passionate with a spine of burnished steel and a very specific image of what her life is going to be like. Harassed by her husband’s weasel of a twin brother isn’t part of it.
They have twin daughters. Princess Brigid, named for her great-grandmother on her maternal side, said to have led the charge against raiders of a neighboring kingdom and held strong until royal reinforcements arrived, and Princess Joan, named for a saint beloved by Gallican knights. They’re healthy, happy babies and the people of Clonmel breathe a sigh of relief that the line of succession is secure, that more children are sure to come, and that they are blessed with such lovely princesses.
Ferris’ feelings are mixed.
Obviously Halt having a child strengthens his position. Princesses aren’t as good for Halt and the princess-consort’s position as princes would be, but those are still heiresses, trueborn and royal with support from Gallica, however fractured and unstable the country may be, and through the girls’ grandmother on their mother’s side there are more connections to distant city-states. The girls received remarkable name day gives, jewels and maids and retainers from Gallica. The king of Gallica himself comes to visit his first grandchildren and they win him over with bubbly laughter in a way that Ferris’ grim twin would never be able to.
Ferris redoubles his efforts, and Halt eventually decides enough his enough. He tries to convince his wife to leave with him, to flee Hibernia with him and their child.
She refuses.
She is a proud Gallican princess, the mother of the next queen of Hibernia. She will not flee to live out her days in some hovel, and she will not allow her daughters to be exiles.
She and Halt argue. They part ways in anger and never see each other again. The girls stay with their stubborn, proud mother, and suddenly they are alone in a sea of grief and treachery.
The loss of the firstborn prince is devastating to his parents, who despite never really appreciating him when he was there grieve the loss bitterly. Despite this, a new question arises: Who will be the heir apparent? As the king and queen grieve and fall into a miasma of depression, factions arise. Their eldest granddaughter, Brigid, is championed by her mother. The Gallican princess-dowager makes friends wherever she can, makes promises she’ll only be able to keep if she wins, utilizes every bit of cunning and flirtation the Gallican court taught her.
Meanwhile Ferris, ever amiable and ever popular among old school Hibernian nobility, needs only to cater to the sexism of the nobles along with the more rational concern of having an infant as the ruler. Who would be regent if Princess Brigid were crowned? The Gallican woman? Heaven forbid!
By the time the king and queen can blink, the court is tearing itself apart. Before they die of influenza and grief combined, the king and queen add one more bit of fuel to the fire, a ‘compromise’ that only exacerbates issues: Ferris will be regent, and Brigid will be sole queen upon her majority.
Everyone is furious, but Ferris slightly less so than his sister-in-law. It is a blow, not being named heir, but being regent gives him power and time. Time to consolidate and oust his sister-in-law, or (less likely but still possible) get her on his side. Perhaps he could adopt his sweet nieces, who he must admit have managed to win him over a fair bit as well.
The Gallican princess is having none of it. If she cannot be regent, then her daughter will rise to power and someone she can trust will be. She sends Joan to Gallica, trusting her with relatives should the worst happen. She and Brigid remain in Hibernia. Brigid is betrothed to the son of a loyal noble, a boy almost fifteen years older than her but popular and strong. Brigid grows in beauty, in wit, in strength. Ferris begins to fear her. He already fears his sister-in-law.
He never quite manages to get the accusation of treachery to stick. He knows she’s committing treason, but she’s good enough at it to get away with it, to play off anything she does as simply looking out for her children and for Hibernia.
Brigid and her betrothed, a powerful Hibernian lord named Brendan, marry weeks after her seventeenth birthday. Ferris begins to sweat.
Then the Outsiders land in Clonmel, and offer Ferris an opportunity. Part of their preaching begins to include discussions of gender roles, how a woman can never rule over men, nevermind a kingdom of men. It is man’s role to rule, woman’s to follow.
The Gallican is not amused.
Ferris begins using his position as regent to minimize any influence the Gallican has. He separates the Gallican from the court and brings Brigid and Brendan to Dun Kilty, ostensibly to allow the two to better acquaint themselves with the castle and the court but in reality, it’s to keep an eye on them the same way he keeps an eye on Sean. He cannot force Joan back, cannot take her hostage the same way, but she’s nothing but the second born daughter in a distant, war-torn land.
By the time the power of the Outsiders catches Halt’s attention, his first wife is dead. Some say illness, some say poison, some say a broke heart. She is given a royal funeral with all the pomp and circumstance she deserves as a princess-dowager, and it is at her funeral that civil war ignites.
Loyalists to the princess-dowager and Princess Brigid assemble alongside the Outsiders as the parade passes, knights from Gallica riding alongside men of Hibernia. At the head of the parade is Ferris, Brigid and her husband beside him. Perhaps it was only to be expected that tensions would rise from something so petty as whether or not the people of Dun Kilty would call out for a queen or a king.
The Clonmel Halt, Will and Horace enter into is one being torn apart in three directions: lands loyal to Ferris are raided by Brigid’s loyalists and vice versa, and bandits controlled by the Outsiders use the chaos to prey on people’s fears even further. Halt and Horace head towards Dun Kilty, and Will goes to find Brigid.
“You don’t want to come with me?” Will asks. “She’s-”
“Not going to want to see me,” Halt says, too matter-of-fact to be wholly honest about how it makes him feel. “You’ll have a better chance at getting an audience if I’m not with you.”
Neither Will nor Horace are quite sure that’s true, but the pain in Halt’s eyes stop any protests dead.
Halt gets the idea to put forward Horace as the Sunrise Warrior, and at first it goes off without a hitch. But then, news of another Sunrise Warrior trickles in, and Halt is baffled. He presses for more information.
A returning princess in chainmail, the Joyful Knight, the Sunrise Warrior...
Halt doesn’t get the chance to avoid meeting Joan: she and her Gallian force find them first. Horace is stunned at how much of Halt is in her face: the eyes are the same, dark and hooded; the hair is black and cut haphazardly, as if by her own dagger. She speaks with a strange hybrid accent of Hibernian and Gallican, both just gentle enough for Horace to be able to know exactly what she’s saying.
“Who are you?” She demands. She’s small but Horace can see the strength in her, the way the blade pressed against Halt’s throat doesn’t shake at all. Halt doesn’t make a move to fight back, just stares at her silently with an expression Horace hasn’t ever seen on the older man’s face. “Why do you claim this man is the Sunrise Warrior?”
Halt doesn’t say anything. Horace decides a bit of honesty is in order.
“We’re from Araluen,” he says, and her eyes go from Halt to him in a flash. He’s reminded a little of Cassandra and a lot of Will, the way her gaze is equal parts sharp and open, hiding nothing. “We’re here to help. We thought fighting a myth with a myth would be a good way to go.”
Joan raises her eyebrow and Horace almost laughs at just how Halt the expression is.
Will gets the same jolt of recognition when he meets Brigid, a slight, willowy woman with dark hair, dark eyes, and a face that would have made his heart melt if he hadn’t already loved Alyss.
“A Ranger,” she says flatly. “Of Araluen.”
“Yes, Your Majesty.” The proper manner of address seems appropriate.
“Sent by... my father.”
“Yes,” Will says, instinctively more gentle. Brigid settles back in her chair and seems to ponder this. The man beside her, a tall Hibernian with red hair and bright blue eyes, eyes Will like he expects him to lunge.
Suddenly, Brigid stands. She walks over to Will; she’s shorter than he is but seems taller, stronger. He’s Araluen through and through, but still gets the impulse to kneel and kiss her knuckles. Instead, she reaches out and takes his hands in hers. The smile on her face is sharp, fierce, wild with something like excitement.
“Come, Ranger,” she says. “Let’s talk about smoking these rats out of my kingdom.”

I’m a day late but I have thoughts
- Fred is truly a gem lol but another garden seems redundant
- Trixie actually working!
- Why did they bring back Val’s really bitchy cousin lol, I’m sure she has others on the block😂
- Also Mcnulty seems eager to come back, nice boy
- Sister Hilda tryna stay positive when she knows the truth, bless her
- Also the heat 2000 feels just as far away when you say it now at days too😂
- Save Nonnatus House 1k65/2k20
- I was always wondering when the Turners would tell Angela she’s adopted. I think it should be soon, she deserves to know & I hope we see it
- Little girls always wanna be the same😭 that’s true, but I hope that they acknowledge the fact that it’s a different situation and Angela won’t ever have the struggle May is about to have
- “Maybe they’ll move and carry on like before” Trixie in tears makes me wanna cry😭 she’s literally already been through this. I wish we saw more moments where she reflects as the only OG midwife left (yea Shelagh is technically too but you already know all the issues)
- Also Trixie looks damn great
- What will midwives the do!? We shall see
- Oh so Val has a dad? Did he pass? Give us more info lol
- I also feel like it’s been spring/summer this whole series lol
- Ok but the suddenly alive lost parent trope is pretty soap-y/melodramatic but go on,
- Shelagh stress smoking is a big ass mood but also stop you have weak lungs sis
- Reggie always have great ideas
- Chugging castor oil uh I rather die 🤢
- She’s going to shit her brains out now
- LMAO YUP
- Sister Hilda and Trixie could be an interesting dynamic, let’s see it
- Fred do not worry you’ll figure it out
- What’s wrong with Sister Frances?
- Where is Ms Higgins from that she just said laboratory like that LMAO?? Or do all brits say it like that? i dont remember
- Can’t wait to see Phyllis back with her cubs
- Fred and Reggie hugging for so long🥺
- Sister MJ is going to make a garden, I love her
- Trixie’s new pyjama’s are so cute
- It’s a boy 🥺
- “I am not alone sister” LMAO omg reminds me of the time my grandma went shopping by herself right after she came out of the hospital and we called her and asked who she was with and she straight up said “con díos” aka god and I died
- Never underestimate Sister Mj tho
- Tim is so grown and yet he’s still just the babysitter is so wack give him a little story
- “I like that we’re complicated” awww
- The photos of May🥺awww
- Give Esther a chance man, I feel so bad. She only asked to meet her before she goes back
- Gtfo how can the agency not provide a translator so that she can understand official documents in her first language? That’s bullshit
- LMAO FRED IS WASTED
- “Only in the line of duty ma’am” 😂
- Oh no poor Sister Frances, cramps are the WORST 😭
- I legit would not be able to move for hours and have thrown up before from period pain. Thank god for birth control
- What’s wrong with baby warren?! Omg noo a heart problem
- Trixie’s fit is great
- The fucking chicken pox caused this omg nooo
- THE BEATLES AT SHEA!! iconic! Remember when Don took Sally on Mad Men
- Omg baby is blind? and only going to live a few weeks? Noo😭 this is heart breaking
- Poor Val and poor Maureen ugh this is so awful
- My niece turned 1 today and baby warren is making me extra emo😢
- Sister MJ with the teddy bear 🥺 she doesn’t even care she got caught for taking the blankets LMAO
- Damn May doesn’t remember her or her language. This is so heartbreaking
- ALSO why were there not subtitles so we could know what she said? 🤔 very questionable... just like how they emphasized earlier her going by a “christian” name now...
- Esther shouldn’t have gotten loud but they didn’t even give her a chance? That’s not really fair
- I know Patrick is being protective but he’s so defensive that he probably did scare May
- PHYLLIS FAKING CAR TROUBLES TO GET CRYRIL AND LUCILLE TOGETHER I LOVE IT
- Damn that didn’t go well LMAO
- I’m really feeling conflicted here. I know the Turners have the best intentions and want to keep May safe but I feel like they haven’t given Esther enough of a chance before passing judgment. Like how do we not know she’s a completely changed/clean from drugs women?
- like she is working for a family with enough money for international travel so they probably pay well? IDK what to think rn. Maybe I’m giving Esther the benefit of the doubt but no one else really is
- “They made my child afraid of me” that’s so sad to hear
- “Forgetting her language, forgetting that she’s Chinese” !!! THIS, no one is talking about May’s loss of culture & what’s worse is that no one else seems to care. It really upsets me, the show always wants to pride itself on respecting other cultures and being inclusive but I don’t always feel that
- Also what she said about what they’ve done to her people. She ain’t wrong. F**k colonialism and all its evils !!
- Poor Esther 😭 this is so sad. It’s a lose lose situation for her and she just wants her daughter to know her and know that she loves her
- Also I know sister J is sister J but her talking to Esther is a bit biased don’t you think
- NO NO NO Warren passed 😭😭😢
- Damn Patrick has to carry a stack of death certificates 😢
- ANOTHER look from Ms Franklin
- all the girls look great though
- My heart really breaks for Esther man. This is so sad. She’s the victim of circumstances and it sucks to feel like the world is against you
- It’s so awkward bc the Turners are always set up in moments to kiss and then they don’t and just stand or sit there
- Such beautiful flowers
- They developed the film of Baby Warren😭
- Cyril’s FIT ! A fashion KING who loves Lucille. I love it. I love them.
- The nosy nurses of course
- Alright this is an awesome little festival good job Fred and Reggie !!
- Love the dress Trixie. The hat no so much but it’s the 60s so
- A BABY GARDEN OMG HOW PRECIOUS
- SISTER MONICA JOAN WON OK!
- “Flowers take many forms. Each one has its story. Each one unfolds...” 🌼🌸💐🌷🌺🌻🌷
- “Not every garden blooms as we except it... tears take the place of rain when the sunshine fails us...” 😭💖
- This was a beautiful ending to a sad episode wow
