Wangxian Mermay 2023
Day VIII: Siren Song
Wei Ying stared at the dark lagoon with a single minded intensity that Lan Wangji had only seen once before.
"Lan Zhan."
He turned to him, his eyes swimming in the darkness. The intensity of his look put Lan Wangji's back up. He did not know what Wei Ying intended by that look. And he was not sure he wanted to find out.
He bent closer, inhaling deeply. His eyes were dark pools of red. Bright like the first sunrise, or the color of New Years decorations.
Wait.
Lan Wangji looked back at him, at his red eyes.
Moments ago they had been silver, shimmering as he teased Lan Wangji about something he could not recall. His mind was consumed by Wei Ying's hands on his leg, tending to his injury.
"Wei Ying." He caught the hand reaching for him, twisting, pinning it against the floor. "What are you doing?"
Wei Ying stared at him, blinking, the red slowly fading back to the highly unusual silver.
He stared and Lan Wangji, his eyes darted to his pinned hand. His entire face flushed as dark as his robes.
He jerked back as if he'd been burned, slapping a hand over his mouth.
He stared at Lan Wangji with eyes so wide he could see whites all the way around. His body trembled, like he was cold and fighting the urge to shiver.
He stood there looking at Lan Wangji for a long, immeasurable moment before he turned and fled, the echo of his footsteps fading behind him.
Lan Wangji blinked at this strange turn of events.
The cave was still, no movement from burrowing creatures nor the lagoon where the Xuanwu was eating the dead. The only sound was the dripping of water off the ceiling, Wei Ying's fading footsteps running deeper into the cave, and the crackling fire he made.
Lan Wangji could make no sense of it. Wei Ying had been…stiff and tactirn since Wen Chao announced the hunt for the legendary Xuanwu of Slaughter. When they found the cave he went silent completely. Staring at the dark lake with an expression Lan Wangji would have called fear if he had not seen Wei Ying dive straight into a Waterborne Abyss to save Su She. He only stood there, eyes glazed and distant, his hands in fists. It was not until Wang Liangjiao wanted to use Lou Qingyang as bait that he shook himself from his trance to protect the young woman.
The only other time he acted like this was during the Waterborne Abyss incident. When he stood at the end of his sampan, staring into the distance without anything to see. Then shouted a warning that had everyone fleeing their boats on swords before the first ghosts broke the surface.
Had his eyes been red back then as well?
Lan Wangji settled as comfortably as he could against the rock, stretching out his leg until the sharp ache turned dull.
He would explain himself as soon as Wei Ying returned. It was not his teasing he hated. If anything, Wei Ying's ability to make jokes in such dire circumstances took the bitter edge off the grief and heartbreak of his fuqin's death, shufu's injuries, and xiongzhang's unknown location.
He tipped his head back, closing his eyes. For the first time in his life, forcing his mind into calm.
He jerked awake.
Rocks and dust tumbled from the ceiling as the entire space shook. He jumped to his feet, the broken bone healed, but still weak, allowed him to limp out of their alcove into the main cave.
The Xuanwu was writhing in its lagoon. Coils of bodies wrapped around each leg keeping it pinned in the water. There were thousands more in its mouth, keeping it open, preventing it from biting down. Several bodies and spirits crawled across the turtle shell, ripping at the plates, digging into the soft flesh underneath.
In the lagoon, singing the spirits to rise, and battle their killer, was Wei Ying.
His hair was down, a curtain of ink spread about him like a celestial being, his face drawn and wan in the low light of the few torches he'd lit to illuminate the lagoon.
He dove as the Xuanwu came down, teeth crunching through the desiccated bodies, catching only water. Wei Ying came up on the other side, resuming his song.
He song of battles and war, calling the spirits to fight harder, to kill faster.
Shaking himself, Lan Wangji hurried around the cave, stripping the scattered bows of their strings, breaking off arrow heads to string along the long cord as he tied each bow string to the next.
It was not a long cord, but it was long enough.
The entire lagoon was alive with bodies, writhing, clawing over each other for a chance to get to the Xuanwu. His boots never got wet, he ran over the bodies throwing the chord around as he went, until he had the Xuanwu's neck trussed up like a chicken at slaughter.
He landed on the shell finding two plates, he draw the chord tight, it bite into his hands, and the Xuanwu's neck.
Wei Ying halted in his song for a second, locking eyes with him.
Around him the water was clear, he could see a long eels tail black against the rocks, red fins fanning out in the water.
Blinking, Wei Ying resumed his song.
He knew the battle was coming to an end when the spirits around him began to fall. The spirits rose, freed from their prison of resentment, ascending back into the cycle they were denied before.
The bodies crumbled into ash, turning the water black, the Xuanwu lay in the water, struggling to get breath through a throat nearly cut in half.
When the Xuanwu took its final breath, Wei Ying ended his song, collapsing into the water.
Lan Wangji shook the strings off his hands, jumping into the water, he gathered Wei Ying. Even in his body, he was light. He shivered, curling closer to Lan Wangji's heat.
Lan Wangji carried him into their alcove, the fire had gone out, he got it going again, stoking it higher then it had been before.
Wei Ying was human again when he turned back.
Human and naked.
Flushing down his neck, Lan Wangji stripped his outer robe off, draping it across him.
"Lan…Zhan?" Wei Ying blinked at him, eyes hazy and distant.
Lan Wangji gently stroked the length of his face, "I am here."
Wei Ying snuggled closer, his hand gripping Lan Wangji's sleeve, "You didn't have to come."
Lan Wangji settled on the ground beside him, pulling Wei Ying into his arms, holding him until his shivering subsided.
"Do not ask me to let you fight alone." He told Wei Ying, kissing his brow lightly, "I never will."
Wei Ying turned red, letting out one of his adorable whines, burying his head in Lan Wangji's robe.
"Stop being adorable, it's not fair when I'm too tired to make proper use of it."
Lan Wangji held him close, kissing the top of his head. "Apologies."
"Smug bastard." Wei Ying mumbled. "No yer not."
He was not.
He would never be sorry when he had the upper hand over Wei Ying.
He began to hum quietly, gently rocking Wei Ying in his arms.
There were things they needed to to, find where Wei Ying left his clothes, see if they could get out under the Xuanwu's body, or move the rock at the entrance. There were questions he wanted to ask, how he could sing the resentment into battle, why he never told Lan Wangji he was a Jiaoren as well.
If Wen Qionglin was truly going to risk helping them.
But they could all wait. For now, for this moment. He was content.

My body was feeling very weird but not an all encompassing pain that I expecting having been mowed down by a careless driver. I cast a short glance down at my hands back up to the candle and down again to see that yea, those are definitely a child’s hands. Of course there was nothing left for me to do than scream in terror… A computerized ding sounded and I was met with a screen floating in front of me… You have got to be shitting me right now. In large letters matching the words I was hearing in my mind complimentary via Siri it said “Congratulations, Congratulations, Congratulations! Good things must be said three times. Welcome to the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation. You will be playing the character Lou Qingyang, MianMian. Your task is to create a happier world for the characters that you loved in your last life and save those that you deem deserving of a happier ending.” …
“A niang, A die, I’d like to join the Jin sect as a cultivator.” The kind people that were MianMian’s parents seemed delighted if not for the hint of worry that they held in their gazes,
“I’d like to join the sect as a boy, rather than a girl.”

I really do think mianmian and lwj deserve to be like, close friends. from their meeting in the show it doesn’t seem like they ever saw each other after jinlintai and i have no idea when they would’ve gotten the chance, but just afterwards, you know?
yes, I think they definitely deserve to be friends! One of things I always found troubling about these novel based xianxia dramas is the lack of sustainable friendship beyond the main romance line. I guess in order to create angst and emotional investment for the audiences, a lot of times, friendship get sidelined or destroyed when characters die or betray each other. As well, most non-romance relationships that we see lasting to the end of the story are family relations and sometimes servitude (aka a lackey that hangs on until the end). Real friendships where both parties are roughly on equal footing and station rarely last in these epic adventure dramas. You couldn’t even say Wen Ning is Wei Wuxian’s friend of equal station, not when Wen Ning doesn’t call Wei Wuxian by his name, just “young master”. Perhaps this is to isolate the main character, who knows.  Even so, friendship between men is portrayed more frequently than friendship between women, or men and women.
So with your prompt, it inspired me to write a little something Luo Qingyang centric, ft our Hanguang-jun and juniors.
~~~
Lanling Jin’s entourage stood by the gates of Cloud Recesses, patiently waiting for their admission. What seemed like a life time ago, Luo Qingyang had been on these same steps with Jin Zixuan. She’d been a girl then, barely bloomed, barely grown. Life had been simple, and she had thought she knew what the future would hold.
So much had come to pass, yet these grand arches, white granite stone pulsing with spiritual aura, never seemed to age.
She glanced down at her Jin Clan robes, the pale yellow and white, embroidered with peonies and a strip of blue accentuating the lapel edge. She never thought she’d wear these colours again. Her mother had been a Jin, first cousin of Jin Guangshan. Once upon time, she’d been proud to be one of them, to be part of a powerful and wealthy clan. Then the war came and went, like the debriding of a wound upon their world that revealed the flesh underneath had caseated to the bone. She’d been so disillusioned, so aggrieved by her elders and disappointed by her peers.
Even Zixuan.
He had been a good man, her cousin. But he wasn’t strong of heart nor clever of mind. She was sorry to know he had died, but she wasn’t surprised. If he could not see the game his father had been playing, then there had never been any hope for him.
Luo Qingyang glanced towards the youth in front of her just slightly to the right. From the view of his back, she could almost picture his father, standing there with Suihua in his clutch, a proud son of the house of Jin. Time seemed to fluctuate, the eighteen years between then and now barely a drop in the ocean. If she breathed deeply enough and closed her eyes, she could almost be Mianmian again, could almost see Zixuan again.
This was the first time Jin Ling had come to Cloud Recesses without his jiujiu. The boy was rightfully nervous, but this push towards independence was necessary. Sooner or later, baby bird had to learn how to fly. Like his father, Jin Rulan had a kind nature, even if he was awful at expressing his feelings. He was young, but the burden on his shoulders were heavy. For the mess that was the Jin Clan post Jin Guangyao's demise to fall into Jin Ling's lap was the best and worst case scenario. If he hadn’t risen to occasion, the subsidiary sects - vultures circling a carcass- would’ve torn Lanling apart.
Perhaps that was why Luo Qingyang had agreed to return to her mother clan.
Wei Wuxian had arrived at her doorsteps one day some months after the incident at Guanyin Temple. Even on the outskirts of Yiling where she had lived, she had received news of what had happened. Wei Wuxian explained he’d been travelling, but between his subtle hints and unsubtle nudges, she had understood his intentions.
Jin Ling had no one to help him man the helm. Jiang Cheng could only do so much without the other sects accusing him of overreaching into businesses beyond Yunmeng’s jurisdiction. Jin Ling was Jinlintai’s heir, not Lotus Pier’s, a fact that most people had slowly forgotten over the last decade. Childless, Jiang Cheng’s seat would one day go to his prime disciple, but not to his nephew.
“Lan Zhan had written a decree for you, in case you encounter trouble going back. It’s a lot to ask for, I know. You’ve got such a lovely home here. But...you are needed, Mianmian, if you could forgive them.”
Forgive them? Luo Qingyang sighed. What’s there to forgive? She had left of her own volition, married well, and had a wonderful family. Her husband grumbled a bit about moving to the big city, but in the end he followed her back to her clan, just like he did to her night hunts. Her husband had been a merchant once, and she had no doubt he would thrive in Lanling. So far, she had not been proven wrong.
“I am Jin Rulan’s biao’gu*. He is as much your nephew as he is mine. Tell His Excellency that I will return to Jinlintai shortly. He can be assured Sect Leader Jin will not be alone.”
Lan Sizhui, Gusu Lan’s Head Disciple greeted them at the gates with a deep bow. Like his de-facto cousin, Sizhui had grown taller and more mature.
“Welcome, Jin-zongzhu, Luo-zhangshi*, and honored guests. Cloud Recesses thank you for your patience. Please, come with me.”
He gave Jin Ling a private smile, and the latter perked up immediately. “Lan-gongzi, you’re too kind. It’s been some time since we last spoke. I trust His Excellency is of good health and spirit?”
“Hanguang-jun is very well, thank you Jin-zongzhu.” In a lower tone, Sizhui commented. “I would’ve visited Lotus Pier with Wei-qianbei last harvest, but I was sent to Qinghe for sect business.”
Boys playing at being men.
Luo Qingyang hid a smile, slowing down her steps to give the youngsters some privacy from the party that followed them.
Such innocence. How lovely it was. The boys she’d known were forced to grow up amidst fire and chaos, and did so in such brutal, unimaginable ways. So many had died, and those who had lived would never get to experience their ‘what-could’ve-been’s.
~
After, when the official businesses were settled and the disciples were dismissed, Luo Qingyang and Lan Wangji sat together in a quiet pavilion. Sizhui and A-Ling were some distances away down the lang, standing a reasonable distance apart and conversing politely. Though, it was more than obvious that they were itching to shed their gentlemanly exterior and scurry off to whatever shenanigans boys their age got up to when their guardians weren't looking.
Lou Qingyang observed the man sitting across from her and found some irony in the fact that they were strangely similar. Though talented in cultivation, Lan Wangji was not the type she would’ve imagined being Chief Cultivator, and certainly she herself could’ve never imagined that one day she would be chief of staff of Lanling Jin.
Life dealt them both a funny set of cards and all they could do was keep playing.
“I know Wei Ying had delivered my message, but I want to thank you properly in person, Luo-zhangshi, for agreeing to come back. Those early days after Jin Guangyao’s death was...precariously to say the least. The situation at Jinlintai is much better now thanks to your efforts.”
“Hanguang-jun, we’ve known each other for a long time. Your husband has a scar on his chest from saving me from a Wen branding iron, and my daughter has received lucky money from the both of you. I think you can call me Miamian, if you’re comfortable with that.” She smiled, taking a sip of her tea. The scent of jasmine was calming after such a long, arduous morning.
Lan Wangji nodded, turning to his own cup. “We used to be classmates, now we are colleagues. Perhaps you are right. Formality in private is unnecessary.”
“As for coming back, it is my duty. Jin Ling is bright and kind. With the right guidance, Lanling Jin Sect will recover. I knew him, Jin Guangyao. He was... nice to me, most of the time anyways. Whether that niceness had any truth behind it, I don’t know, but even then he’d been so unreadable. I only wish I’d seen through it all sooner. So you see, there is no need for thanks, Wangji-xiong. We Jins have done enough wrong against your family. Pray, how is Zewu-jun?”
 “Brother is still in seclusion, but he is no danger to himself. He is better now. Time heals all wounds. Though...”
Though knowing Lan Xichen, knowing what Lans were like when faced with tragic love, Lan Wangji wasn’t sure what his brother’s future would hold.
Luo Qingyang nodded, understanding. Suddenly, their tranquility was interrupted by a disciple rounding the corner, footsteps heavy and voice decidedly too loud.
“Sizhui, did you meet up with Young Mis -”
Lan Jingyi’s holler aborted immediately when he saw who was sitting in the pavilion. “Erm... Hanguang-jun, Luo-zhangshi...” Smiling sheepishly, he bowed.
“Sizhui.” Lan Wangji gave his son a pointed look, which the youth instantly understood.
“Ah, Jin-zongzhu. Perhaps you would like for Jingyi and myself to you show around? Cloud Recesses’ scenery is really one of a kind this time of year.”
“Yes, yes!" Jin Ling leaped to his feet from where he was sitting on the bench. He paused, casting a cautious glance towards his aunt, before clearing his throat and continuing in his most ‘adult’ voice. “Yes, I would like that. Lan-gongzi, Jingyi-xiong, if you wouldn't mind leading the way.”
Luo Qingyang and Lan Wangji focused their attention back to their tea cups, both turning a blind eye to the way Sizhui and Rulan all but ran to join up with Lan Jingyi.
They were out of sight in a heartbeat.
“Do you know who they remind me of?” Luo Qingyang tilted her head as a sense of deja-vu washed over her.
“Mn?”
“Wei-gongzi, Nie-zongzhu, and Jiang-zongzhu, during our guest disciple days.”
Our long summer.
“Mn.”
“Remember when they got drunk on Emperor’s Smile? They really were audacious even then.” Luo Qingyang reminisced with a fond chuckle.
“Yes. Uncle was furious.” The corner of Lan Wangji’s lips tilted upwards.
Was that amusement she detected?!
Mianman blinked, suddenly realizing, “Oh but you were amongst them too, if I recall correctly.” She gave him a sly smile. “The girls said you were discovered in a drunken coma in Wei-gongzi’s room the next morning. Is that true?”
“Yes.”
Oh the scandal! “How did they rope you into it?”
“I was willing,” confessed the venerated Hanguang-jun without so much as a blush. The shameless scoundrel!
Luo Qingyang laughed, the sound ringing like a clear bell that cut through Cloud Recesses’ tranquility.
“I suppose it doesn’t matter anymore; he’s your husband now. For the record, we all saw it coming.”
Lan Wangji raised a quizzical brow. “Oh? I did not think it was obvious.”
“Well, not to the male disciples perhaps, but the female disciples, we all knew.” Luo Qingyang took a deep breath and sighed. “Sometimes I miss those days. Simpler times.”
“Mn.”
“My daughter has started cultivation lessons with the other children at Jinlintai. Someday she may visit here as guest disciple, as I once was. I hope her future will be a better one.”
She met his gaze steadily, and the understanding in between had no need for further words.
Lan Wangji smiled.
“That is my wish as well.”
WRH wins. He order each sect to chose one of their children to go and marry him. Gusu Lan give LWJ (idk why). JFM and YZY (both still alive) don't want to give their Children. WWX is meanwhile truly happy that JFM and YZY finally accepted and officially adopted him. Everyone has been nicer to him too. But now, getting ready to his marriage with the monster he finally understood why he was needed. (betrayal is my fav prompt)+ if Jiangs see him again but in a very bad form-bruises, empty eyes etc
Everyone feared the worse after the failed rebellion against the Wens. Demanding a wife from each clan that took arms against him was actually fairly lenient. Wen Ruohan didn't even touch most of the young men and women sent to him- using them as trophies and hostages instead.
But there were a select few who he favored. Lou Qingyang was the first to birth him a son. Meng Yao was all to eager to please. Lan Wangji was without a doubt the most beautiful among Wen Ruohan's spouses, but he was not his favorite.
Wen Ruohan's favorite spouse was undoubtedly Wei Wuxian. The young man had fire in his soul and never failed to amuse Ruohan while still being careful to not overstep. He was charming and daring and unafraid and Wen Ruohan adored him.
At least that's what Jiang Cheng heard. But he couldn't find any of his brothers fire in him when he saw him during the yearly sect conference. Sitting across the room among the other spouses, Wei Wuxian was almost unrecognizable in the beautiful Wen robes and shining jewelry. The most concerning thing was his lack of movement. The Wei Ying he remembered couldn't sit still for the life of him, he was constantly moving or talking or making trouble. But the most Jiang Cheng had seen his brother move since entering the room was to turn to quietly - Quietly! - speak to Lan Wangji.
Jiang Cheng wanted to scream. Yell at Wei Wuxian to snap out of it, scream at his father for giving Wei Wuxian away without a fight, curse at Wen Ruohan and demand to know what he's done to his brother. But he doesn't think he wants to know. Especially not when Wei Wuxian reaches for his tea and his sleeve slides down to reveal bruises that are quickly covered.
Disclaimer: Obviously these rankings are just based off of others’ opinions. I really liked “Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre” even though inseams the majority of people didn’t. Whatever show seems interesting to you, watch it! The majority of guzhuang dramas are made with delicacy and attention to detail. I’ve seen reviews complimenting some dramas with relatively lower ratings, so of course every drama has its fans. I would obviously suggest you all go and watch the top 5 if they sound interesting to you.
Cap. 17
Lan Wangji
Quando acordo a primeira coisa que faço é levar a mão a cabeça. A faixa ainda está na minha testa. Olho ao redor, estou sozinho.
A ultima coisa que me lembro é dela. Wen Qin. Ela estivera na pousada, ela me atingira com uma de suas agulhas.
Eu ouvira falar delas, aparentemente ela carrega sete agulhas diferentes, cada uma com um tipo distinto de veneno. O que ela usara em mim com certeza fora bem forte, afinal eu apagara em segundos.
Mas se eu apagara do lado de fora, como acordei na cama?
Ela...
A raiva me invade. Ela ousou me tocar, ela me trouxe para dentro? Ela literalmente me arrastou até o quarto?
Encaro minhas vestes e noto que sim, pelo tanto de barro que vejo nelas, ela me arrastou.
Mais uma vez a raiva me invade. Odeio aquele tipo de contato, odeio tocar as pessoas e odeio que elas me toquem. Ela não simplesmente me tocara, ela me atacara, me deixara vulnerável e então me arrastara feito um saco de estrume pousada adentro.
Aquilo não vai ficar assim.
-Jovem mestre Lan? – escuto a voz do lado de fora da porta e respiro fundo. – o senhor já está pronto?
-Um minuto.
Sigo para me lavar e então troco de roupas, jogando as anteriores no lixo. Quando estou pronto sigo pousada afora, me reúno com os discípulos e seguimos em direção ao local da conferência.
As duas primeiras pessoas que vejo ao chegar são eles. Wen Qin e Wei Wuxian. Os dois conversam visivelmente animados e a cena faz com que a minha raiva aumente ainda mais, quando dou por mim estou apertando  o cabo da Bichen com tanta força que minha mão começa a sangrar.
-Jovem mestre Lan, a sua mão.
Quando um dos discípulos fala meu nome, os dois se viram para me encarar. Wei Wuxian tem aquele sorriso irritante no rosto, já Wen Qin apenas me encara com um olhar superior.
Odeio os dois.
Passo por ambos sem nem ao menos encará-los. Quero ficar o mais longe possível dos dois porque sei que acabarei fazendo uma bobagem caso me aproxime.
Enquanto passo por eles sinto algo tocar a mão que carrego a espada, em uma fração de segundos eu reajo, desembainhando-a de imediato, mas antes que eu ataque, noto que Wen Qin me olha de perto, um meio sorriso nos lábios.
-Você está sangrando. – ela fala simplesmente. – pode baixar essa espada, ninguém aqui está procurando briga. Por que você sempre reage assim?
Então eu noto, a pequena cicatriz vermelha em seu pescoço e me sinto um idiota.
-Me deixa ver a sua mão. – ela fala simplesmente.
-Não. – disparo.
-Eu sou médica, você está sangrando, pare de ser tão teimoso e me deixa ver a sua mão.
-Não.
-Jovem mestre Lan, se o sangramento não parar, vai acabar sujando suas vestes. – um dos discípulos se manifesta.
-Eu não me importo.
-Não seja tão ranzinza. – quando dou por mim Wei Wuxian bate sua espada contra a minha, atirando Bichen ao chão, eu ameaço pegá-la, mas antes que eu o faça, Wen Qin segura minha mão, envolvendo-a com um lenço vermelho e preto.
A habilidade dela é tão impressionante que por um instante me pego apenas observando-a, mas então puxo a mão com força, me abaixando para pegar Bichen do chão.
Wen Qin
Quem ele pensa que é para se comportar daquela maneira? Eu o estava ajudando, até meu lenço favorito coloquei na mão dele e ele simplesmente me vira as costas e segue caminho? Ah não.
Quando todos os cultivadores começam a comentar a seu respeito, enquanto ele caminha salão adentro uma ideia passa por minha mente. Sei que se eu fizer o que estou pensando ele me odiará ainda mais, mas no momento não me importo, eu só quero que ele perca aquela arrogância.
-Hey, Lan Wangji! – chamo e ele para no meio do salão. Todas as pessoas ao redor olham dele para mim visivelmente esperando o que eu tenho a dizer. – me desculpe por ter te deixado daquela maneira ontem a noite, eu queria ter ficado lá até você acordar mas não pude, eu precisava ir ver como meu irmão estava.
O burburinho é geral. Vejo o instante em que os olhos dele se inflamam de ódio e sinto vontade de rir, nunca pensei que provocá-lo seria tão divertido.
Tumblr media
-Hey, que história é essa? – Wei Wuxian se aproxima de mim e eu abro um sorriso.
-Não tem história nenhuma, eu só literalmente coloquei o Lan Wangji na cama ontem, certo segundo mestre Lan?
Ele se vira para me encarar e eu sinto o ódio em seu olhar. Ganhei um inimigo.
Wei Wuxian
A maneira com que Lan Wangji a encara me faz segurar minha espada com força, se ele atacá-la, com certeza a defenderei.
Mas não posso deixar de rir da maneira com que ela falara. Não conheço a história, não sei o que está havendo, mas não me importo, no momento estou me divertindo ao ver o quanto o jovem mestre Lan parece irado.
A comoção acaba quando o clã Jin entra no salão. Jin Zixuan e sua comitiva arrogante. Eles passam por nós me ignorando completamente, ok não gosto deles mesmo, nem sei a razão do grande mestre Jiang querer que a Yanli se case com aquele boçal.
Vejo o momento em que uma das discipulas se detém encarando o jovem mestre Lan e abro um sorriso, ela nem ao menos pisca enquanto o encara.
Mas ele também não pisca, encara Wen Qin com tanto ódio que posso jurar ter visto faíscas vermelhas saltarem de seus olhos.
-Hey, Wei Yin. – ela me chama e então desvio o olhar d jovem mestre Lan para encará-la. – você vai se sentar comigo hoje de novo?
-Claro. – falo abrindo um sorriso e seguindo até ela. – quando sento com Yanli e Jiang Cheng, ele fica me julgando.
-Eu também te julgo.
-Sim, mas eu não me importo, o Jiang Cheng conta para o grande mestre Jiang, você eu sei que não vai contar.
Ela deixa escapar um sorriso no instante em que sento ao seu lado.
-Esse lugar está vago? – a voz faz com que ergamos os olhos para encarar quem se aproxima, é uma das discipulas do clã Jin, a que quase babara encarando o jovem mestre Lan.
-Sim. – Wen Qin responde com um sorriso. – pode se sentar.
-Você é Wen Qin, certo? a médica do clã Wen.
-Ela mesma, mas não precisa ter medo, ela é inofensiva. – disparo com um sorriso, mas paro de sorrir no instante em que vejo três grandes agulhas vermelhas apontadas para o meu rosto.
-Sou mesmo?
-Ei eu estava só brincando, tira isso daqui.
Wen Qin abre um sorriso e guarda as agulhas no bolso do vestido.
-Sou Luo Qingyang, uma das discipulas do clã Jin. É um prazer conhecer vocês.
-Wei Wuxian. – me apresento e ela faz um gesto positivo com a cabeça.
-Eu sei quem você é.
A palestra do grande mestre Jin se desenrola, eu mais uma vez tento prestar atenção, mas não consigo. É chato, mais do que chato, é um monte de informação que já tenho e acho totalmente desnecessária.
-Wei Yin. – escuto Wen Qin me chamar e viro o rosto para encará-la, ela mais uma vez me encara firme.
-O que foi, eu dormi de novo?
-Sim.
-Droga.
-Mas não é apenas isso.
-O que é?
-O mestre Jin acabou de anunciar que a segunda parte da conferência não será aqui.
-E será onde?
-No Recanto das Nuvens.
-Merda!
Wen Qin
Após o anuncio do grande mestre Jin não sei como reagir. O clã Lan é famoso pela disciplina e pelas suas mais de três mil regras, mas não é apenas isso, se estamos indo para o Recanto das Nuvens, bem, digamos que não era uma boa ideia ter ofendido o discípulo mais promissor do clã, certo?
Quando a palestra do dia acaba e nós voltamos para a pousada para arrumar nossas coisas acabo dizendo ao Ning o que fizera com Lan Wangji e é claro que sou repreendida pelo meu irmão mais novo por ser cabeça dura, teimosa e impulsiva.
Sei que sou assim, mas não consigo ser de outra forma, já tentara de várias vezes, tenho a mania de provocar as pessoas que me irritam e bem, Lan Wangji me irrita profundamente.
Após os primeiros dias de conferencia em Lanling, nós somos levados ao Recanto das Nuvens. Os últimos dias passo mais tempo com Ning e Wei Wuxian, os dois acabam desenvolvendo uma amizade que na minha opinião é boa para Ning, afinal eu sou a única pessoa que ele tem.
Quando enfim chegamos ao Recanto das Nuvens é claro que não me espanto com a quantidade de restrições que nos são apresentadas: Nada de sair dos quartos após anoitecer; nada de ir até as montanhas desacompanhados; nada de barulho; silêncio absoluto em todas as palestras e em todos os cantos; retidão sempre; nada de brincadeiras; disciplina...
A verdade é que quando recebo os manuscritos com as regras, me esforço o máximo para memoriza-las, afinal todos os alunos precisarão fazê-lo.
Elas são chatas. Não sou acostumada com tantas regras e tantas limitações, o clã Wen, por mais cruel que seja, não é assim tão estrito.
Enquanto leio as regras imagino o que Wei Wuxian está pensando, afinal o clã Jiang é famoso por pregar a liberdade e bem, aquelas regras não são muito liberais.
-O que você acha de bebermos algo hoje a noite? – é o que Wei Wuxian pergunta no instante em que se aproxima de mim na primeira manhã no Recanto das Nuvens.
-O que?
-Você conhece o sorriso do imperador?
-Já ouvi falar.
-É um dos melhores vinhos que eu já tomei na vida, nós poderíamos comprar algumas garrafas e tomar no quarto, o que acha?
-Se formos pegos seremos mortos.
-Está com medo?
-Claro que não, não seja idiota.
-E amanhã poderíamos ir até a cachoeira nas montanhas pegar alguns peixes. Eu, você, o Nie Huaisang e sei lá, a Lou Qingyang.
-Nos disseram que não podemos ir nas montanhas desacompanhados.
-Não estaremos desacompanhados. – ele fala dando de ombros. – estaremos acompanhados.
-Por quem?
-Uns pelos outros hora. Ou sei lá, achei que você poderia chamar seu amigo Lan Zhan.
-Isso é para ser engraçado? – pergunto e ele se espreguiça com um sorriso no rosto. – o Lan Wangji não fala comigo desde aquele dia no salão do clã Jin.
-O dia que você deixou todo mundo pensando que vocês tinham passado uma noite juntos quando na verdade você envenenou ele?
-Eu anestesiei ele, é diferente de envenenar.
-Mas se você quisesse ter envenenado, seria capaz?
-O que você acha?
-Que sim.
-Acertou.
-Mas e então? Você vai?
-Claro, por que não?
-O Ning também vai?
-Seria uma boa oportunidade para ele se distrair um pouco, afinal desde que chegamos no Recanto das Nuvens que ele não sai do quarto.
-Ótimo, então amanhã saímos para pescar e hoje a noite para beber, no meu quarto, depois do toque de recolher.
-Combinado.
Cap. 25
Lou Qingyang
Após toda a confusão na beira do abismo, somos obrigados a retornar a Qishan. Estou nervosa, aquilo é um fato, não sei como lidar com a situação, aqueles três lá em baixo sem suas espadas e Lan Wangji machucado...
-Senhorita? – a voz faz com que eu desvie meus pensamentos dos três e erga os olhos.
Eu já o vira antes, certo? Certo, pelo menos de longe. Ele está vestido de vermelho, os olhos cravados em mim, ok, como eu não notara o quanto ele era bonito?
-Você está vindo da caçada?
-Estou. – respondo.
-A minha irmã, não sei se a conhece, Wen Qin...
-Sim conheço, somos amigas.
-Ah que bom. –ele fala com um sorriso no rosto. – você sabe onde ela está?
Respiro fundo antes de responder.
-O Wen Chao atirou ela no abismo.
-O que?
-Não calma, ela está bem, quer dizer, está presa lá com a besta que deveríamos caçar, mas ela não se machucou na queda, eu acho.
-Ela está sozinha lá em baixo?
-Não, Wei Wuxian e Lan Wangji estão com ela.
Consigo ver os olhos dele ficarem cada segundo mais preocupados, eu o encaro de perto.
-Olha, é Wen Ning, certo?
-Uhum.
-Ela está com os dois melhores cultivadores da nossa geração e bem, ambos se preocupam com ela e não vão deixar que nada aconteça, ok?
-O jovem mestre Wei sei que se preocupa, o mestre Lan já não sei...
-Lan Wangji mesmo com a perna quebrada foi o primeiro a pular no abismo atrás dela.
-O o Jovem mestre Lan?
-Uhum. Olha não é a primeira vez que os vejo juntos, ok? Os três. Eles trabalham muito bem em equipe e eu sei que vão sair de lá sãos e salvos.
-Obrigada senhorita...?
-Lou, Lou Qingyang.
-Obrigada senhorita Qingyang.
O sorriso que ele me lança faz com que meu coração dê um salto. Ok, o que diabos?
Wen Qin
Caminho pela caverna até encontrar o local em que a besta descansa. Por um instante acho que é uma pequena ilha em meio a um lago subterrâneo, mas então a vejo se mexer e constato que não é isso, aquela ilha faz parte do corpo da besta e bem... Ele é bem grande.
Analiso nossas possibilidades. Não temos nossas espadas e Wangji não está bem, não sei se ele conseguiria conjurar seu guqin, por isso preciso me concentrar em mim e em Wei Yin e nas nossas habilidades, o que uma médica e um tagarela podem fazer?
Resolvo voltar para perto deles, é melhor pensar em conjunto.
Por alguma razão a situação de Wangji me incomoda, não é que a perna dele não esteja no lugar agora, ela está, mas o tempo que ele passou com o ferimento sem trata-lo, dentro dele deve ter uma porção de sangue velho que precisa ser colocado para fora.
-Wei Yin. – me aproximo quando noto que Wangji está em um canto afastado. – eu preciso da sua ajuda.
-Você viu a criatura? – ele pergunta e eu faço um gesto positivo com a cabeça. – e aí?
-Ela é bem maior do que eu pensava, mas isso não vem ao caso agora, eu estou mais preocupada com o Wangji.
-Com o Lan Zhan? Por que?
-Porque o ferimento da perna dele passou muito tempo sem ser tratado e bem, com certeza ele tem um monte de sangue velho dentro dele que precisa ser colocado para fora. Você que de certa forma tem um pouco mais de intimidade com ele, você saberia uma forma de ajudar?
-Dar um soco no peito dele está fora de questão?
-Ele já está debilitado e você quer enfiar a porrada nele?
Vejo o instante em que o rosto de Wei Yin murcha e então eu noto que ele realmente quer bater em Wangji.
-Por que você quer bater nele?
-Pra ajudar.
-Wei Yin!
-Por nada.
-Pensa em algo que ajude e para de fazer gracinha.
Ele coça o nariz, eu sempre sinto vontade de bater nele quando ele faz aquilo porque de alguma forma sei que ele vai aprontar alguma coisa.
Tumblr media
-Enfim a única coisa além da violência que eu acho que possa ajudar é deixa-lo o mais nervoso possível, talvez assim o sangue saia.
-Nervoso no sentido irritado?
-Nervoso no sentido envergonhado e acuado.
-Acuar alguém como Lan Wangji não é algo fácil.
-Então vamos deixa-lo envergonhado.
-E como faremos algo assim?
Wei Yin dá de ombros e eu faço um gesto negativo com a cabeça. Obrigada por nada.
Nos aproximamos os dois da fogueira que Wei Yin já acendera. A nos ver, Wangji manca em nossa direção e senta ao lado de Wei Yin encarando o fogo a sua frente.
Eu olho ao redor, como posso deixar alguém como Lan Wangji envergonhado? Por um segundo penso e então uma ideia idiota me vem a mente, por isso fico de e me aproximo dele, puxando o tecido de sua túnica na altura do peito.
-O que você está fazendo? – ele pergunta se encolhendo e me encarando visivelmente assustado.
-Estou tirando suas roupas, elas estão sujas de sangue e de barro.
-Não, não me toque. – é o que ele diz se encolhendo ainda mais. – você enlouqueceu?
-Ok então. – falo ficando de pé e começando a desamarrar o tecido que tenho ao redor da cintura.
-O que está fazendo? – ele pergunta novamente, os olhos maiores do que o normal.
-Estou tirando a MINHA roupa. – falo atirando o tecido longo ao chão.
Quando ameaço retirar a parte de cima da túnica, vejo Wangji virar de lado e cuspir um punhado de sangue negro, abro um sorriso correndo até ele e tocando um de seus pontos vitais com dois dedos e o encarando. Ele ainda parece assustado, o sangue escorre de seus lábios enquanto ele me olha de perto.
-Você precisava colocar o sangue velho para fora. – falo simplesmente dando de ombros. – está se sentindo melhor agora?
-Sim. – ele fala simplesmente. – obrigado.
-Não me agradeça. – começo me afastando dele. – eu não sei lidar com a gratidão dos outros e pior ainda com a sua toda formal, ela me dá arrepios.
Ele não responde, mas não desvia o olhar de mim. Eu limpo a garganta e volto a tomar meu lugar ao lado de Wei Yin que me encara sem nem ao menos piscar.
-O que foi? – pergunto e ele dá de ombros.
-Nada não. – e então desvia o olhar encarando a fogueira a nossa frente.
Eu fico um tempo apenas encarando o fogo que crepita de forma selvagem a nossa frente. O que podemos fazer para sair daquele lugar ficaremos bem sem água ou comida por alguns dias, mas depois disso começaremos a definhar e tanto nossa força física quanto espiritual vai começar a se esvair e acabaremos morrendo ali, os três.
Me sinto uma inútil, minhas agulhas são inúteis no momento, queria estar com a minha espada.
-Olha por que não dormimos um pouco os três? Quando acordarmos estaremos melhor e poderemos tentar pensar em algo para enfrentar a criatura, o que acham?
Ao não receber resposta alguma, olho ao redor e noto que os dois já dormem, por um segundo eu os observo. São como gelo e fogo. Wei Yin é quente e selvagem como o fogo, já Lan Wangji é duro e impiedoso como o gelo, vê-los ali um ao lado do outro dormindo feito duas crianças me faz abrir um sorriso, no fim das contas eles não são Wei Wuxian um dos dois heróis de Yunmeng e Lan Wangji uma das luas do clã Lan, eles são dois jovens de dezoito anos e nada além disso.
Retiro a camada de cima da minha túnica vermelha e a estendo sobre ambos, no instante em que a estou posicionando sobre Wangji, noto uma lágrima escorrer de seus olhos e minha garganta trava, ele não tem mais família, ele não tem mais ninguém. Respiro fundo é melhor que durmam e me aconchegando em um canto, também pego no sono.
Lan Wangji
Quando acordo olho ao redor, Wei Yin não está em nenhum lugar a vista, mas Wen Qin está próxima a mim, de pé perto do fogo. Percebo que ela usa apenas a parte de baixo de suas vestes e então encaro meu próprio corpo, tecido vermelho da parte superior está ali, estendido sobre mim.
Por um segundo penso em dizer alguma coisa, mas acho melhor não, é melhor não criar caso.
-Wen Qin. – chamo e ela me encara abrindo um sorriso de imediato.
-Ah você acordou. – ela fala se afastando do fogo para se aproximar de mim. Eu seguro o tecido vermelho entre os dedos e o estendo em sua direção.
-Tome, você deve estar com frio. Obrigado.
Ela não responde, apenas pega o tecido de mim e começa a recoloca-lo ao redor do corpo. Baixo os olhos para lhe dar alguma privacidade e então noto que minha perna está amarrada com uma tira de tecido escarlate, levo a mão a testa e percebo que minha faixa está novamente em minha cabeça.
-Ah. – ela fala ao ver que toco a faixa azul. – eu achei que você se sentiria mal sem a faixa então eu a coloquei de volta.
Faço um pequeno gesto com a cabeça, agradecê-la está se tornando cada vez mais frequente.
-Definitivamente é uma tartaruga. – Wei Yin começa se aproximando. – e está bloqueando a passagem como você disse.
-Não é apenas uma tartaruga. – Wen Qin dispara. – metade tartaruga metade serpente.
-Que seja, tem carapaça é tartaruga. Enfim, como vamos nos livrar dela?
-Preciso mais uma vez que tire a roupa. – disparo e Wen Qin me encara visivelmente assustada.
-O... O que?
-Lan Zhan, não é hora para isso! – Wei Yin me repreende, mas eu respiro fundo.
-Preciso da parte de cima de suas vestes Wen Qin, e das suas também Wei Yin, vou retirar as minhas.
-Por que? Pra que? – Wei Yin pergunta e eu o encaro.
-Preciso de uma corda longa o suficiente para chegar daquele lado. – falo apontando um dos lados da caverna. – até aquele outro.
-O acorde assassino. – Wen Qin fala simplesmente e eu faço um gesto positivo com a cabeça.
-Não tenho forças para conjurar meu guqin, mas posso disparar o acorde se tiver a corda.
-Ótimo. – Wei Yin fala com um sorriso enquanto começa a retirar a parte de cima de sua túnica.
-Não creio que apenas o acorde seja suficiente. – Wen Qin dispara e eu desvio os olhos de Wei Yin para encara-la, ao ver que ela retira a parte de cima das vestes, desvio o olhar.
-E o que mais podemos fazer? – Wei Yin pergunta e Wen Qin o encara.
-Já que ela possui uma carapaça, poderíamos tentar entrar lá e ataca-la de dentro para fora. Eu posso levar minhas agulhas e ...
-E nada disso. – Wei Yin a interrompe. – você fica aqui com o Lan Zhan e eu vou.
-Wei Yin! – ela discute e ele faz um gesto negativo com a cabeça enquanto atira as vestes negras ao chão. – o Lan Zhan precisa de você e se ele desmaiar no meio do acorde assassino? Você acha que eu vou conseguir ajudar em alguma coisa? Você que é médica e além do mas, eu não sei lidar com ele, prefiro a tartaruga, por favor.
Wen Qin revira os olhos, Wei Yin me encara e me dá uma piscadela, eu faço um gesto positivo com a cabeça.
-Está bem. – Wen Qin fala se aproximando dele e tocando sua testa, vejo o instante em que uma luz vermelha emana dos dedos dela e parece ser absorvida pela cabeça de Wei Yin.
-O que foi isso? – ele pergunta confuso.
-eu consigo ouvir o que você pensa agora. – ela fala e ele a encara visivelmente assustado.
-O que? Não eu não quero que você escute o que eu penso.
-Só o que você de certa forma quiser que eu escute, é como um auto falante para nos comunicarmos quando você estiver lá dentro.
-Entendi.
Ela se afasta dele e se aproxima de mim, eu deixo que ela faça o mesmo comigo.
-Pronto, estamos os três sintonizados no mesmo canal. Wei Yin, tome cuidado.
-Certo.
-E leve isso. – ela fala lhe estendendo uma agulha. – essa agulha fará com que a criatura paralise, tente cravá-la no ponto que achar mais vulnerável, certo?
-Sim senhora.
-Boa sorte.
Quando Wei Yin se afasta Wen Qin me encara e dá de ombros. Ok, também precisamos agir.
Juntos amarramos as três túnicas uma na outra e então nos dois pontos da caverna, fico atrás da enorme corda esperando o sinal que Wei Yin dará.
-Aqui dentro fede. – ele começa dentro da minha cabeça. – parece o quarto do Jiang Cheng.
-Wei Yin, foco. - Wen Qin o repreeende.
-Desculpe. Tem pessoas aqui dentro.
-como assim?
-Pessoas envoltas em coisas que parecem casulos Lan Zhan, é como se a tartaruga as estivesse guardando para comer mais tarde e... Espera, tem uma espada aqui.
-Espada? – Wen Qin pergunta.
-Sim, e...
-Wei Yin! Wei Yin!
Por alguns instantes não ouvimos mais nada, eu encaro a Wen Qin que parece mais do que assustada. Wei Yin, o que aconteceu?
-Ela me atacou. – escutamos ele falar e eu respiro aliviado. - o pescoço dela entrou aqui e me atacou, eu me defendi com a espada que encontrei aqui.
-Que espada é essa? – Wen Qin pergunta firme.
-Não sei, ela é negra, eu nunca vi nenhuma espada como ela e ahhhhhhhhhhhh.
-Wei Yin!
Quando encaro a tartaruga noto que Wei Yin é atirado para fora, na verdade atirado não é bem a palavra, ele está pendurado pela espada que encontrara e ela está cravada na parte inferior do pescoço da criatura.
-LAN ZHAAAAANNNNNN! – ele grita enquanto a criatura o sacode de um lado para o outro.
Wen Qin se adianta conjurando um fio vermelho e o lançando no pescoço da criatura, vejo o instante em que ela salta para cima do casco e o puxa com firmeza, tentando sufocar a tartaruga.
Ela ainda se debate, sacudindo Wei Yin de um lado para o outro. Preciso agir. Preciso agir agora!
Wen Qin
Enquanto seguro a criatura pelo pescoço algo chama a minha atenção. Ela para de se debater, mas Wei Yin continua pendurado segurando a espada, por um instante consigo ver uma espécie de fumaça preta sair da espada e se enrolar na mão dele, tomando seu braço e subindo em direção ao seu corpo, após alguns segundos Wei Yin está completamente envolto por névoa preta e o mais desconcertante de tudo é o sorriso que vejo em seus lábios, aquele não é o sorriso ao qual estou acostumada, aquele sorriso é diferente, de certa forma maníaco.
-Wei Yin! -Chamo, mas ele não parece me ouvir.
Vejo o instante em que ele, ainda com o sorriso nos lábios, estende a mão livre de lado, a névoa preta a tomando por completo, fico ali sem saber o que pensar e então vejo emergir do fundo do lago várias espadas e flechas e todas elas se cravarem ao pescoço da criatura.
Puxo a corda de luz com mais força e o pescoço da tartaruga pende para trás, derrubando Wei Yin na água.
-Wei Yin! – escuto Wangji chamá-lo.
Salto em direção a água para resgatá-lo e quando consigo tocá-lo escuto Wangji gritar.
-WEN QIN SE ABAIXA!
Mergulho puxando Wei Yin para baixo e quando ergo os olhos consigo ver a enorme explosão azul tomar conta da caverna. O acorde assassino, o maior e mais poderoso acorde assassino que eu vira na vida.
Fico ali segurando Wei Yin até que sinto uma mão me puxar forte e eu emerjo puxando Wei Yin comigo.
-Wen Qin, você está bem? Wei Yin?
Wangji olha de um para o outro visivelmente preocupado.
-Me ajude a tirar ele daqui. – é o que consigo dizer.
Ambos arrastamos Wei Yin para fora do lago, ele está desacordado.
-Wangji a criatura..? – começo enquanto colocamos Wei Yin sentado próximo ao fogo.
-Morta.
Respiro aliviada e encaro Wei Yin, ele não parece bem.
-Wei Yin, hey fala comigo, abre os olhos, Wei Yin.
Wangji se aproxima e em um golpe firme acerta o peito de Wei Yin, de imediato ele abre os olhos cuspindo sangue.
-A criatura, onde ela está?
-Morta. – Wangji fala simplesmente encarando-o.
Wei Yin permanece agarrado a espada que encontrara no interior da criatura, seu olhar é assustado.
-Eu acabei de ouvir várias vozes. – Wei Yin começa em um tom cansado, posso ver que ele está lutando para permanecer acordado. – vozes gritando, gritos de agonia. Estou imaginando coisas?
-Não está. – Wangji responde de pronto, Wei Yin ergue os olhos e o encara abrindo um sorriso fraco.
-Quem diria que algum dia. – ele começa . – eu veria o segundo mestre Lan preocupado comigo.
Wangji não responde, permanece encarando-o.
-Lan Zhan. – ele começa a voz começando a desaparecer. – onde está a Wen Qin? Eu, eu acho que não vou sobreviver.
Me aproximo correndo e toco sua testa, Wei Yin está queimando em febre.
-Ele está com febre. – falo encarando Wangji.
Reviro minhas vestes e encontro uma de minhas agulhas, a cravo levemente no braço dele, Wei Yin respira fundo e fecha os olhos.
-O que aconteceu com ele? – Wangji me pergunta visivelmente preocupado.
-Acho que ele foi envenenado, diminui a pulsação dele para evitar que o veneno se espalhe, precisamos retirá-lo.
Antes que Wangji responda, toco minha própria testa e então toco o pulso de Wei Yin, uma luz vermelha emanando da ponta de meus dedos.
Wei Yin se debate por alguns segundos, mas então começa a respirar de forma compassada.
-O que você fez?- Wangji pergunta visivelmente surpreso.
-O que eu poderia ter feito com você ao invés de tirar minha roupa, mas eu não sabia se funcionaria e bem, como agora não tenho escolha... Estou empurrando o sangue ruim para fora, daqui a pouco ele vai...
Então antes que possamos nos afastar, Wei Yin vomita uma quantidade significativa de sangue em nossas vestes.
-Ah entendi.
-Agora ele vai se sentir melhor.
Wei Yin respira fundo e fecha os olhos. Wangji se afasta, sentando em um canto afastado, por um segundo eu fico ali segurando a mão de Wei Yin, não quero que ele piore, não posso perde-lo.
Então a melodia suave invade a caverna e eu desvio os olhos dele para encarar Wangji. Ele está sentado, os olhos fechados e é ele quem murmura a melodia.
Enquanto ele canta uma luz azul toma a caverna, eu consigo sentir uma espécie de paz me invadir e ensaio um sorriso, Wei Yin respira fundo e deixa escapar um suspiro, parece estar se sentindo melhor com a música também, no fim das contas, parece que sobreviveremos.
Wei Yin
Quando acordo olho ao redor, não estou mais na caverna, na verdade eu conheço muito bem aquele lugar.
-Ah você acordou. – o sorriso dela faz com que o mundo inteiro se ilumine. – me deixa ver. – ela fala tocando minha testa de leve. – não, não está mais com febre.
Píer Lótus. Como fui parar no Píer Lótus? A ultima coisa da qual me lembro é de estar segurando a mão da Wen Qin na caverna e então escuridão total.
-Como eu?
-O Jiang Cheng te trouxe depois que resgataram você, o segundo mestre Lan e a Wen Qin da caverna, pelo que nos disseram, vocês mataram a criatura do massacre.
A criatura. Lembro da espada e de uma onda de ódio me invadir e então mais nada.
-Onde eles estão?
-Você não se cansa de se meter em problemas e ainda perguntar pelos outros? – Jiang Cheng aparece no quarto me encarando firme. – você sobreviveu a criatura do massacre e é o que importa. Você tem noção da confusão que arrumamos com o clã Wen por sua causa? Agora eu espero que você fique quieto e não apronte mais nada.
Ameaço discutir, mas não tenho forças para tanto. Onde será que estão Wen Qin e Lan Zhan?
Mermay 2023
Day: I
Prompt: Aquarium.
🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟
Lan Wangji let out his breath.
Easing the tension around his shoulders, rolling his neck and consciously unclenching his jaw.
The cool darkness of the Mermaid auditorium surrounded him on all sides, three walls of thick glass. The hazy blue depths of chemical treated water always reminded him of home. The pastel blue walls, the overwhelming sense of peace and silence after so long around children.
He could hear the water lapping against the glass, the bubbles from the filters, the muted voices from the school field trip a room over having lunch.
The auditorium was dark and empty, it smelled of the chemicals used to keep the fish healthy, and of wet earth and that briny, fishy, smell he was worried would never come out of his clothes.
The water shifted, the waves slapped harder against the glass.
Lan Wangji opened his eyes, blinking several times to ensure he was not hallucinating.
There was a mermaid in the tank.
He was lean with dark skin. There was a scar on his chest, but it was hard to make out in the water and the black fish-net shirt he wore with a long trailing ribbon tied at his back to keep it cinched around his chest, exposing his lean torso.
Curly dark hair floated in the water around a face of sharp, slightly, boyish features of a twenty-something young man.
He swam behind a rock outcropping emerging from a cave closer to the glass.
His fin was similar to a Gobionidae, but instead of gold, his scales were red, with extra dorsal and tail fins that floated when he was still, to flared along his body as he moved. Creating a dramatic appearance that mimicked a real life fish.
He swam up to meet another mermaid, one Lan Wangji recognized.
Lou Qingyang was wearing yellow, her outfit more regal with stones and gems that sparkled when she caught the light.
Watching them move around each other was ethereal. Even though he knew it was fake, he could believe they were mermaids, even as the surfaced every five minutes for air, even with the safety divers lurking in the dark, they moved as if they were born for the water.
The young man especially, he held his breath for longer, and the way he twisted, diving between rocks and through caves, and swimming between the fish for a dramatic appearance. Blue and white pearls woven into his hair, set against dark hair.
Lan Wangji watched him, wondering what it would feel like to run his hands through that hair, tugging on each pearl until-
"Yuanyuan, I don't think we're supposed to leave." Lan Jingyi's voice jerked Lan Wangji back to alertness. Turning around he saw his own nephew and Wei Yuan, his favorite student thought he'd never say that aloud, already across the room, standing at a door that read Staff Only.
"Lan-laoshi said I could say hi to diedie." Wei Yuan said pulling open a door that should have been much to heavy for a six-year-old.
The silence of the auditorium was replaced by heavy machinery, air filters not muted behind thick glass.
Lan Wangji was on his feet, following them before the door could swing shut.
He tried to call for them, they were halfway up the stairs, the sounds were louder in here, an assault on his ears. The chemicals burned his nose and throat, choking his words before he could even utter them.
He ran up the stairs, his feet pounding against the industrial steel, his heart racing as horrible images of both boys falling into the fish tank, their tiny bodies unable to float because of their heavy winter coats. His brain conjured images of them, bloated and blue in the face, with glassy eyes, being pulled from the tank.
He reached the top of the stairs in the service area. He didn't know a single thing about anything here other than everything could be dangerous for two curious little boys.
Said boys were currently standing on a catwalk over the large tank Wei Yuan was turning a lamp on and off in a pattern.
"Lan Jingyi, Wei Yuan." It didn't sound like him when he spoke. His voice was dry, hoarse, and rough.
He was uncomfortably reminded of his father in his final hours.
Lan Jingyi jumped at his voice, spinning with wide guilty eyes.
"Yuan-er! My little radish."
It was the mermaid.
His hair was plastered to his face, a pearl resting in the center of his forehead like a prince of old before he pushed it back, swimming over to the catwalk.
Wei Yuan sat on the catwalk, his father pulled himself out of the water, twisting expertly to sit in it beside his son, his fin drifting in the water.
Water rolled down his neck and chest, dark skin pebbling in the cold air.
"Jiujiu." Lan Jingyi said, "Yuan said we could come back here, he said baba gave him permission."
Lan Wangji looked at the child in question, his gaze colliding with dark eyes sparkling with interest. A large, guileless smile, and dark red cheeks.
Wei-xiansheng looked down at his son, "Yuan-er, did you ask?"
Wei Yuan crossed his arms, huffing at his father, "Of course I did diedie. And I even made sure Lan-xiangsheng came with us to supervise."
Wei-xiansheng blinked, dark eyes darting to Lan Wangji again. "Lan…xiansheng. You're Lan Xichen's younger brother? You're the new teacher at Cloud Recess Academy?"
Lan Wangji nodded, "Mn."
"You teach the kids archery and Bei Pai?"
"It is a new course. Wei Yuan is the top performer." Pride and fondness warmed his tone. Though he could trust his typical frigid personality would prevent Wei-xiansheng from noticing and calling him on his favoritism.
Wei Yuan pulled himself up, smiling brightly.
Wei-xiansheng stared at him a moment longer before he smiled, long and slow, like he'd seen something he'd been looking for for weeks.
"I see." He said turning back to his son, "Did you tell Lan Xichen where you were going?"
Wei Yuan's lower lip slid out, "Diedie!"
"Oh you naughty boy!" Wei-xiansheng attacked his son, tickling him until Wei Yuan's delighted laughter echoed around the tank service area, "You've been listening to Wen Qing too much, you scheming little sea bunny. I should throw you in the tank and make you go home wet."
"Diedie no!" Wei Yuan managed to get away from his father, scurrying behind Lan Wangji, leering at Wei-xiansheng from behind his leg.
Wei-xiansheng collapsed in laughter just as delighted as his son.
Lan Wangji put a hand on Wei Yuan's head, looking down at him.
"You must be transparent about your intentions. What would happen if you and Jingyi were hurt and unable to signal your father?"
Wei Yuan stares at him with those large, soft brown eyes that reminded Lan Wangji of his rabbit, and of his mother.
"Yes Lan-laoshi."
When he turned back to Wei-xiansheng, he met dark eyes, warm and bright. A playful smile, and a lean body still tantalizingly wet.
"Wei Ying." He held out a hand, his hand was mostly smooth, he had callouses along his fingers that suggested sword work, but they were must softer than told of regular work.
"Lan Zhan, courtesy, Wangji."
His eyebrows rose, and his smile twitched higher, "I see. Yes, yes…it's all coming together." He said.
"Diedie I wanna stay with you!" Wei Yuan said loudly, still holding onto Lan Wangji's pant leg.
Wei Ying glanced between him and his son, "Someone would have to wait with you baby, and Qing-gugu isn't here today."
"I can wait with him."
Lan Wangji wanted to know what was wrong with his mouth.
First it was volunteering to chaperone the class on their field trip, now it was offering to stay extra hours until Wei Ying's shift ended.
Wei Ying, for his part, did not seem surprised at the offer, rather his smile canted higher, his eyes shining bright under the florescent lights.
"I have a feeling that would have been the end result anyway. As long as it's okay with Lan Xichen." He pointed to a bank of steel grey lockers behind them, "My clothes are in 316, in my bag are a few visitor passes, just make sure you clip it where it's visible. If anyone asked, tell them you're with me."
Music poured from the speakers, Wei Ying flinched, "That's my que. I have to go, Yuan-er this conversation isn't over. Tell Lan Xichen I'm talking to him too."
Wei Yuan was smiling as bright and beguiling as his father, "Okay!"
Wei Ying sighed, shaking his head, he looked at Lan Wangji again, smiling turning mischievous,
"I'll see you in a couple of hours."
He winked, diving below the water before Lan Wangji could get his brain back on track to answer him.
Lan Xichen and Wei Yuan in the background conspiring to get Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian together, are not as secretive as they like to think they are.
